- 0:08Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to TWO Shot Tuesday.
- 0:11It is episode #300 that is 600 shots will have been consumed by
- 0:17the end of this episode over the course of our run.
- 0:20My name is Jason Riley. With me, as always, is Barry T
- 0:22Nixon. And Barry, one thing we want to
- 0:25tell our listeners and our viewers who've been with us this
- 0:27whole time, this is actually our final episode, the final shots.
- 0:32And we're kind of crazy that it's come to this.
- 0:34It really is, you know, the, the, the festering attention
- 0:38between the two of us has clearly led to this breakup.
- 0:41No, that's not true. That's not true at all because
- 0:45we've got a real special announcement coming at the end
- 0:48of this episode because we're not going too far away.
- 0:51Right. I love it.
- 0:52I mean, just leave everybody guessing as to what you possibly
- 0:55be revealed. That's it.
- 0:56But before we get to the big reveal, Jay and I know you love
- 0:59a reveal as much as anybody, let's have our first shot of our
- 1:02final episode, the first of two final shots.
- 1:07Yeah, when you say it like that, it really kind of it hits you
- 1:09where you live, doesn't it? It sure does Barry.
- 1:12What do you have to ring out this this festive occasion?
- 1:16Well, at the time of this recording, Jay, it's about as
- 1:19hot as it is in Iraq. Now, you and I have both been to
- 1:21Iraq in our minds, so we know exactly how hot it is.
- 1:25It's that hot, and so what's the best way to quench a relentless
- 1:28heat? Bushmills 12 year What about
- 1:31yourself? Well, I was taking it right back
- 1:33to where we began and we started with the Jameson.
- 1:36We have since upgraded our our tastes and but I'm keeping it in
- 1:40the same family with Jameson Black Barrel.
- 1:43Here's to you. And you cheers.
- 1:47Ooh, shot 599. Barry shot 599.
- 1:51As we start to bring it in, I mean, you, you hit it this
- 1:54afternoon when you said, you know, this is going to be an
- 1:56episode. We're going to reminisce.
- 1:58We're going to look back on some of the wonderful things that we
- 2:00did. Yeah.
- 2:01Yeah, How are you feeling? Well, first of all, this is your
- 2:03most naked show. So for those watching on
- 2:06YouTube, you're getting a real feast.
- 2:08You're getting buried next and shirtless.
- 2:10That we know. And we don't know anything else,
- 2:12and that's just fine. But you, you let us know what
- 2:16what brings you to this? Spoiler alert to the the front
- 2:19the front bottom is covered. OK, I'm still wearing my tarp on
- 2:23the front bottom so everyone can just relax and you know, save
- 2:27your comments for the end. This is not because of any
- 2:30particular reason other than it's hot as hell Jay and at the
- 2:33time of this recording I'm sure our listeners and viewers can
- 2:36appreciate. If you happen to be in Southern
- 2:37Ontario, it's hot as hell outside.
- 2:40Now am I complaining? No, I'm simply adapting.
- 2:42And how does 1 adapt? They put on as little clothing
- 2:45as possible to remain comfortable.
- 2:47Yes, that's how I roll. Jay, you are in the air
- 2:51conditioned studio. I sure AM.
- 2:53Yeah. And I'm wearing my golf shirt.
- 2:55I'm wearing my pink kind of dad golf shirt.
- 2:58Thank you. Yeah, but a dad, a cool dad,
- 3:00wouldn't wear pink. That's the thing.
- 3:02This is where you level up on your suburban father.
- 3:05They wouldn't be wearing a color palette like that.
- 3:07Why? Because they would be afraid of
- 3:08how people would react. Yeah.
- 3:10Jay, you were fearless. Have been since day one.
- 3:14Hey, I am all right, I am. You know what?
- 3:16Speaking of day one, we've come through 6 years of doing this
- 3:21show. Well, six seasons.
- 3:23We're into our sixth year of this show.
- 3:24We started in the pandemic. I won't go too far into the
- 3:27where we started because where we're going to be going to, I
- 3:30think we'll have to touch on that as well.
- 3:32So, but I would like to get, and you know, those of our viewers
- 3:35and listeners who've been with us this whole time are very
- 3:37familiar with with the show and where it started, its
- 3:39beginnings. But I want to ask you, Barry,
- 3:41are what are some of your favorite moments from Two Shot?
- 3:45Well, it's probably is when we've had Alex Ravel on the show
- 3:50to discuss some collection horror stories and when he
- 3:53shared one's tale in particular about his rather unorthodox
- 3:57management style and how he motivates his team.
- 4:00Or at least how he used to motivate his team some years
- 4:02ago, which I thought was interesting.
- 4:04And I invite our viewers, if you are interested in that kind of
- 4:07thing, different management styles, you might want to search
- 4:10up the collection Horror stories volumes one through 6.
- 4:14There's a ton of good stuff in there.
- 4:15And Alex has been awesome. Yeah, he's definitely been a
- 4:18highlight for me. What about you?
- 4:19Yeah. Make sure you check the back
- 4:20catalog for all of those. Yeah, I think it's our kind of
- 4:24our collection of guests that we've had.
- 4:25We've had some great guests over the years.
- 4:27Alex, who you mentioned. We've of course got the movie
- 4:30guy, Rob Peetz. He's probably, he's definitely
- 4:32been the most frequent guest we've had your trainer, Andre.
- 4:36We've had Gay Mandel. We've had Craig, Zach, we've had
- 4:38Chris Whitby, we've had. Laurie Carruthers.
- 4:42Rory Carruthers has been with us.
- 4:43We've. Had TJ Chesley.
- 4:45Yeah, TJ Chesley, we've had just so many great guests who bring
- 4:49another interesting perspective to the show because we kind of
- 4:52bring, you know, our, I would say our love of life and
- 4:55experiences, wouldn't you? We approach it differently but
- 4:58but that's really what it is. But you know, where we really,
- 5:00truly intersect is the love of life.
- 5:03And your love of life is the same as mine.
- 5:05We just love different things within that life.
- 5:07You see, you follow me. It's it's fantastic.
- 5:10I do follow you, and that's really what I.
- 5:12Think you do? What we want to take away if if
- 5:14I can share anything from the experience of six years, it's
- 5:17been that it's the it's being able to share and explore the
- 5:20love of life with you, Barry T Nixon always in about 20 minutes
- 5:24because that's we don't overstay our welcome, as you like to say.
- 5:27Yeah, that's how long life takes for US. 20 minutes. 20 minutes
- 5:31at a time. It's perfect.
- 5:33Yeah, if something's not going. Great on the clock.
- 5:35Yeah, if something's not going great for you, that's OK.
- 5:38In 20 minutes it could change. If things are going amazing,
- 5:41well, count your blessings because in 20 minutes it could
- 5:43change. That's how life really is.
- 5:45About 20 minute segments, 3 different approaches every hour
- 5:49on the hour for life. I mean, it couldn't be simpler.
- 5:52It's true. If anyone's thinking about
- 5:54incorporating this into their own life, there it is.
- 5:56Yeah. Yeah.
- 5:58There's the road map to a happy life.
- 6:01Yeah, any. Absolutely, Jay.
- 6:03Also I want to say one thing, one segment that I've always
- 6:05enjoyed that we've done is our 4K corners and you have often
- 6:10brought in your omnibus to reviews.
- 6:12I think those have been very valuable over the years and
- 6:15we've explored a lot of different things.
- 6:17And for those who like physical media, whether it be, yeah,
- 6:20hardcover collection of comics or a disc, I think we've given
- 6:24some pretty decent reviews over the years.
- 6:26Yeah, and I'll say one thing that I got away from that since
- 6:30reconnecting with you and doing this show has brought back to me
- 6:32is my love of physical media. Yeah, I'm glad I could help with
- 6:36that. Tell me about what is so
- 6:38exciting about physical media to you that you just don't get from
- 6:42a download. I'll tell you, and this is
- 6:44actually something that is happening now with a download,
- 6:47you truly do not own a digital copy because sometimes you can
- 6:51buy what you think is a movie and then suddenly Sony or some
- 6:55other company can revoke and delete that from your hard drive
- 6:59because they have some licensing issue or a licensing renewal
- 7:02came up that didn't, you know, go their way.
- 7:05That has happened, that has been in the news recently.
- 7:07So you don't truly own the digital.
- 7:09And now I know Rob Peetz would disagree, but I don't know
- 7:11whether he's had any of his movies disappear from his hard
- 7:14drive, have you, or not being able to access it.
- 7:16I have not. I've never gone down that road
- 7:18because I know with a physical disk, you own the movie, you own
- 7:22it, you pop it in. There's no, there's nothing else
- 7:25to do. You just, I like that.
- 7:26That's the you just pop it in. Yeah, that's the that's the
- 7:29aspect that I like the most, the streaming.
- 7:32I mean, streaming is different than downloading.
- 7:34I understand. But I've heard that there has
- 7:37been some issues with people not actually owning or not being
- 7:40able to keep indefinitely their digital downloads.
- 7:43And that's a problem. And that's why I prefer the
- 7:45physical world. Physical media I'm with you and
- 7:48I like for convenience, I enjoy a download like so for example,
- 7:52I subscribe to both Marvel and DC Comics app and I read them
- 7:56both on my iPad and they're comics.
- 7:57Some of them I own in physical form, some I don't own.
- 8:00I don't want to own. I just want to be able to read
- 8:02them when I can. And I think a digital download
- 8:04is very different because I have bought movies digitally like
- 8:07some like Star Wars, The Force Awakens, I purchased digitally
- 8:11from Apple when it came out. I got like, you know, some of
- 8:14the Star Trek ones on sale and they would.
- 8:17And the good thing about Apple is they'll upgrade you to to the
- 8:194K when they come out. Like they just they do that at
- 8:22least now. But you're right, it could
- 8:24disappear at some point if Apple were to go out of business,
- 8:27which is not likely, but could happen.
- 8:29Bigger companies have gone out of business before.
- 8:32These are things that are actually concerning because you
- 8:35don't really own it. And they can also change it on
- 8:37you. They can change some aspects of
- 8:39it and, you know, push it back out again, like George Lucas
- 8:42changing Star Wars. If you were to, if somebody were
- 8:44to do that again, I suppose they could update your copy and go,
- 8:46this is the copy you're watching now.
- 8:48Exactly. I I'm not sure it's about the
- 8:50company going into business. I think it's more the rights
- 8:52becomes, yeah, an issue. For whatever reason, they don't
- 8:55own the that right to show that on their platform anymore or
- 8:58whatever. But I see your broader point.
- 9:00It's it's annoying and it's, it's a risk that I'm not willing
- 9:03to take, Jay. I prefer to have my if I want a
- 9:06movie, I want to own it. And then I don't have to think
- 9:08about it anymore. Because, you know, what's the
- 9:10most, one of the most irritating things in the world is having to
- 9:12remake decisions. You've made a decision.
- 9:15This is the movie. This is the movie I want to own.
- 9:18I don't want to have to keep remaking the same decision again
- 9:21and again. Take it once and live with it.
- 9:23And if you don't like it, give it to a friend who might take it
- 9:26off your hands if you frame it in the right way.
- 9:29Yeah. Battlestar Galactica, for
- 9:31example. Shin Godzilla.
- 9:32'S way into your library why I framed it as J you love movies
- 9:36from the 70s, especially science fiction you're like I don't know
- 9:39if I love them I love some I'll give this a try and there we.
- 9:43Are now it's on my shelf and you won't take it back.
- 9:45No risks. Which is fine, I won't.
- 9:47I'm going to sneak it back into your home next time I come over
- 9:49and just sneak it in. They'll just find its way back
- 9:52to your shelf. OK, well, that's.
- 9:54Fair. You did mention one time on the
- 9:55show previous episode that I believe the the company was able
- 10:00to update your copy even on your disk.
- 10:03Didn't they change? Didn't you find something was
- 10:04changed or not accessible? Did that happen one time?
- 10:07I don't think it's happened with physical media.
- 10:09I know. OK, I thought it was or are you?
- 10:12You were blocked from being able to play a certain movie or
- 10:15something. I thought for sure you told me
- 10:17that, which I thought was strange.
- 10:19But that is true, sometimes 4 KS will come out with a like region
- 10:23locked Blu-ray that you can play.
- 10:25But the 4K discs are always region free.
- 10:28But I haven't actually, I haven't popped that in myself.
- 10:31I haven't actually experienced it.
- 10:32It's not available in your region even though it's a
- 10:34physical disc, thankfully. OK, I'd hit the roof, Jay.
- 10:38Yeah, I don't. I don't need that in my life.
- 10:39No, you don't need that. Well, you know what?
- 10:42This is our final episode. Do you have a final 4K corner?
- 10:45Have you had anything roll into The Newsroom in the last, you
- 10:48know, seven days or so? I have something that's coming
- 10:50very shortly talk to me and that is Highlander, the limited
- 10:54edition with all the swag, the original Highlander.
- 10:57Great movie. What's recent?
- 11:00I did get send help, but I think we touched on that on a previous
- 11:03app. So you bought it?
- 11:05Yeah. So that's pretty much the Yeah,
- 11:07it was fantastic. It's it's and it looks amazing,
- 11:09of course. OK.
- 11:11Yeah, fantastic. What about you?
- 11:13Any recent additions to your library?
- 11:15No, we talked about last episode.
- 11:17X-Men else when? So I had just finished reading
- 11:20that I'm now reading a Stephen King book.
- 11:22I we probably touched it on the show.
- 11:24It's like set in the universe of the of the stand, which I really
- 11:28enjoyed that book. So I'm now reading that now that
- 11:31I've got my light that I glowed about last episode.
- 11:34I've clicked that to this book and now I'm reading that before
- 11:37bed. So I'm excited to read more
- 11:39options, more options beyond the the glowing iPad, because with
- 11:43the light, as I mentioned, every book becomes an iPad because you
- 11:47can read it wherever you are at any time.
- 11:49It's kind of fun. I'm not a reader.
- 11:51I'm excited about the light. I'm thinking about buying the
- 11:52light even though I don't even have any books to attach it to.
- 11:55Just because I see how your face lights up when you talk about
- 11:58this thing. I'm like, there's got to be more
- 12:00to it. Absolutely covered for myself,
- 12:02yeah. All right, Barry, shall we do
- 12:05our final shot and then talk to our listeners and our viewers
- 12:08about, you know, where they might find us next?
- 12:12Yeah, yeah. And thank them for being with us
- 12:14all this time. I mean, you're right, Jay.
- 12:15Five years is a long time. It's a lot of shots.
- 12:17But it's been so much fun. And I think you and I have
- 12:20become better at at hosting and being podcasters.
- 12:24Yeah. I went back, it's probably been
- 12:26a couple of years, but re like reviewed our first episode once
- 12:29and who we had a couple of we were just plugging in our
- 12:33headphones and knowing we didn't know what we were doing.
- 12:36Now we're shirtless on balconies.
- 12:38That's that's how comfortable we are with ourselves and our
- 12:41podcast. Nobody is good at anything the
- 12:43first time they do it. Everybody sucks when they start
- 12:46to do something new. That's a fact, no matter what it
- 12:49is. And so we we did that.
- 12:51But we moved past it. Should we?
- 12:52And now we're shirtless on a balcony.
- 12:54Fantastic. Here's to you, Jay.
- 12:56Here's to our listeners and our viewers for sticking with us for
- 13:00into our sixth year. So thank you very much for 300
- 13:03episodes, 600 shots. Thank you.
- 13:05Do this one with us if you can. Cheers.
- 13:07Thank you very much. That is the warmest whiskey I've
- 13:14ever had in my life, Jay. Because woo, does it get warm
- 13:18out here, I tell you. For me, left right over the
- 13:21tongue. One of my favorite experiences.
- 13:23Right over the tongue. Caught a corner of it, but for
- 13:26the most part cleared it right down the gullet.
- 13:28Beautiful. Very like an Olympic high
- 13:30jumper. Yeah, exactly.
- 13:32We got 6 minutes left. OK, where are you going to find
- 13:35us? Because, you know, it's our last
- 13:37episode. Why are we wrapping up this
- 13:39show, by the way? I think it's the drinking.
- 13:41No, it's I feel like we need to shake up you and I talked about
- 13:44it. I think it's time to pivot and
- 13:45have a more focused approach and not just, you know, make it
- 13:50always about us. It usually is about us.
- 13:52And that's fine. But this next iteration of our
- 13:55show is going to have a bit more of a focus.
- 13:57And I know you love them. You know, something with some
- 14:00focus, Jay. I do.
- 14:01I love focus. I love we're going to, we're
- 14:03going to keep our show to 20 minutes because that's what
- 14:06people have come to expect from us.
- 14:08That's what we want to stick true to.
- 14:10And like, you're right. What we've learned over this
- 14:12journey is that we don't always approach things from the same
- 14:14way you are. Yeah, very.
- 14:16You're you plan, but you're also very spontaneous.
- 14:19You're out there. You're this.
- 14:20You're this larger than life figure, If I may say I'm a
- 14:25little reserved. I'm a little more.
- 14:27Reserved. Yeah, Yeah.
- 14:29Introverted, still enjoy, we still sync up on a lot of
- 14:32things, but our approach comes out of different ways.
- 14:34And So what we thought was we would take a topic each week and
- 14:37what'll happen is one of us will know what that topic is, the
- 14:40others not going to know what that topic is.
- 14:42We're going to bring it into the room and we're just going to go
- 14:45back and forth. Left brain, right brain, upside
- 14:47down. Yeah, right side up, inside out,
- 14:50and just kind of kick it apart and take it apart.
- 14:52Rather put it back together again and see we end up with.
- 14:54I love it. And are we going to reveal the
- 14:57name of the new show so people know exactly what they're in
- 15:00for? Jay, why don't you go ahead and
- 15:02lay it on us? All right, we are calling this
- 15:04show Brain Waves. This is multiple conversations
- 15:07focused in on one area and having a really great time about
- 15:10it. I am actually going to attach
- 15:13the trailer that we filmed to the end of this episode, Barry,
- 15:16so that that is going to be everybody's first look at Brain
- 15:20Waves and where we're headed. What are we going to do?
- 15:22We're going to take a week off. So.
- 15:24So we haven't taken a week off in six years.
- 15:26So we are deserving of a week off.
- 15:29I think we're going to take one week off, yeah.
- 15:33And then we are going to come right back at it.
- 15:34We're going to hit it with brain waves.
- 15:37The first episode will drop. I think we're going to shift to
- 15:39a Thursday drop now. We're getting into the
- 15:41intricacies, but look for us not on a Tuesday, on a Thursday.
- 15:43We're going to continue to record on a Tuesday.
- 15:45But the plan is to spin that edit around real quick so that
- 15:48it's going to be record edit out.
- 15:51So it's not going to be a week delay between episodes.
- 15:53We're also going to be, you could say up-to-the-minute on
- 15:56the news that matters most to you.
- 15:58Whenever we do talk about the news, it's going to be right
- 16:01there when we RIP it from the headline.
- 16:03That headline is going to be fresh.
- 16:04It's going to be the oozing freshness, tender, gripping in
- 16:07this like a cantaloupe. You're banging on it and it
- 16:10just, it sounds delicious, you. Hear that noise?
- 16:12Oh, yeah. Also we should say that we are
- 16:14going to be welcoming back some of our previous guests from the
- 16:17old show, primarily our movie guy Rob Peetz.
- 16:20He will absolutely be part of the new format and we will have
- 16:22focused episode strictly discussing what from theaters.
- 16:25Yeah. Those are some of our most
- 16:27popular episodes. You've told us you like them, so
- 16:29you're going to get that. We're going to make sure the
- 16:30movie guy, Rob Peetz is here as often as we can secure him, and
- 16:34it's whenever you guys go check out a film.
- 16:36Maybe I'll even come once in a while.
- 16:37I definitely come in to see Dune.
- 16:39Dune I am coming to see. I'm excited to see Dune 3.
- 16:42Me too. It's it looks pretty good.
- 16:44So from the bottom of our hearts, listeners, what can we
- 16:47say? And viewers, we've been honored
- 16:50to be with you and however you consume this show each and every
- 16:53week for the past five years. Jay and I are humbled and we are
- 16:57looking forward to continuing to bring you 20 minutes of
- 16:59entertainment on the weekly in a new format, slightly more
- 17:02focused, but just as fun. Check it out, Brain Waves with
- 17:06Jason and Barry coming up. And thank you very much, as
- 17:08Barry said, for supporting 2 Shot Tuesday.
- 17:11We have had a blast recording this each and every week without
- 17:16fail. Absolutely.
- 17:17See you in the next iteration and.
- 17:19You don't even have to do anything.

- 17:31Hey, Barry, You know that thing that gets stuck in your head
- 17:33every week? Like like a movie that you just
- 17:35can't stop thinking about? Or that weird obscure headline
- 17:39that we just can't shake? Like something you just need to

- 17:44week for us. You're right.
- 17:46Hey, I'm Jason, he's Barry, and every week on this podcast we
- 17:51take that one thing that we just can't stop thinking about and we
- 17:55make waves about it. I'm talking movies, comics, TV
- 17:58headlines you actually want to hear about.
- 18:00We have a ton of opinions and sometimes we agree, but.
- 18:04Sometimes we don't, and that's kind of the point.
- 18:07We tackle it from all angles. Left brain, right brain, we let
- 18:12everything fly. 20 minutes every single week.
- 18:15We've been doing this podcasting thing a long time, but you know
