- 0:03Good morning. As we begin this morning, I just
- 0:07got a quote Peter when he was on the Mount of transfiguration,
- 0:10when he said it is good for us to be here.
- 0:12It is just been an absolute blessing to be here.
- 0:15The men that have led us in worship so far, I've done.
- 0:17So just so, so ably and I'm feeling like beer ice Barney.
- 0:24When Andy and Barney were in charge of making sure the gold
- 0:26truck, you know, safely and quietly got through Mayberry and
- 0:30Barney already. Let the cat out of the bag and
- 0:32and he says we're going to do, okay?
- 0:33And Bruce. I'm afraid we're going to blow
- 0:34it. I hope.
- 0:36I hope I just don't blow it. It's been going so.
- 0:38Well up until this point, brother Pete.
- 0:40Just thank you for that. Beautiful prayer.
- 0:42Reading us leading Us in some scripture reading before that
- 0:46and Everett just beautiful song selection and I tell you when I
- 0:51Survey the Wondrous Cross. Is there a more beautifully
- 0:55worded song? There.
- 0:57Maybe there are some that rival it but just a beautiful song to
- 1:01help. Prepare your minds for taking
- 1:02the Lord's supper and then your other song selections were
- 1:04wonderful. Cory's was as well.
- 1:07And Adam brother. Thank you so much for the
- 1:09powerful way that you've prepared.
- 1:10Our minds for taking both of the Lord's supper, and for the
- 1:14offering just just beautifully done.
- 1:16And and Jay, just a member of the Bowtie Brotherhood.
- 1:19I think he outclassed this all and in his presentation this
- 1:22morning. It looks great and just did a
- 1:24great job with the scripture reading.
- 1:26It's just been an absolute blessing to be here.
- 1:29Some of you have asked me what it is like being a Granddad and
- 1:33I think my answer has been the same.
- 1:36For everybody. It has exceeded all of the hype.
- 1:40Belarus is Norma Jean. Are y'all in agreeance with that
- 1:44Alicia? You're going to learn in a few
- 1:46weeks. It is going to exceed all of the
- 1:49hype. I you know, I've had
- 1:50grandparents come up to me countless times and and I know
- 1:54you've heard the line. If I knew how great grandkids
- 1:56were, I would have had them first, you know, you've heard
- 1:58all those kinds of things and and wow, it has been absolutely
- 2:04amazing and And I think there are multiple reasons for that.
- 2:08For those of you that have experienced becoming a
- 2:11grandparent. I think, for me personally.
- 2:14One of the things is when when I became a dad for the first time,
- 2:18yes, I was excited. I was overjoyed.
- 2:22I was in love with with Aiden rookie soon as they came into
- 2:25the world, but I was also terrified when Aiden came into
- 2:29the world. In particular Wendy had just
- 2:31gone through a 23 and a half hour horrific labor.
- 2:36Delivering a non lb 9 oz 23-inch boy, without an epidural.
- 2:43And I remember the one of the most Vivid memories I have of
- 2:46that day because it was a full day is at one point going out
- 2:52into the waiting room, to the family of was there.
- 2:54And saying, I don't know if my wife is going to make it.
- 2:57I was scared to death. I was watching her go through
- 3:01all of this and when 8 and finally gets here after three
- 3:06and a half of those 23 and a half hours, were just the
- 3:08pushing part. And when he finally got here and
- 3:13The Who ever offered for me to hold Aiden for the first time I
- 3:17said, I think I'll hold him tomorrow.
- 3:19I mean I was I actually said that I was so I think I was
- 3:26having like PTSD I was traumatized and that's just me.
- 3:31I Wendy's whether that went through it.
- 3:35And I it was just so always emotions that you have in and
- 3:40maybe there's some moms and dads you this morning where it was a
- 3:43similar collection of emotions. When you became a parent for the
- 3:47first time. Yes, you fall.
- 3:49Immediately in love with that, that little baby, that has just
- 3:53come into the world and your overjoyed and you're excited.
- 3:56But there's there's a part of you.
- 3:57That's also terrified. How am I going to afford feeding
- 4:00this child? How am I going to to balance
- 4:03work and life and And and my marriage and this new child, and
- 4:07you've got all these emotions, but then, when you become a
- 4:09grandparent for for a lot of us, it's it's like the terror and
- 4:15the trauma, and all of that, you don't have to deal with those.
- 4:18Now. It's just pure joy and you just
- 4:21get to Relish in the moment, you know, with Brookie.
- 4:25I with covid, I wasn't even allowed at the hospital, so I
- 4:28didn't even get to see, you know, brookies exasperated,
- 4:33exhausted face, you know. After the babies came into the
- 4:36world. And it's when I got to see him
- 4:38for the first time, you know, a brookey had showered and then
- 4:40the babies have been cleaned up and it was just immediate fun
- 4:45time. And so I think for a lot of
- 4:49grandparents for us, it's we don't have to have some of those
- 4:52other emotions that naturally are a part of having children as
- 4:59so. It is just a bless, you just get
- 5:00to to Relish in the joy, Relish in the beauty.
- 5:05A of this, this little baby and just, just have a ball.
- 5:10Just have an absolute ball, you know, in First Corinthians
- 5:14chapter 13 verse 11. Paul says that, you know, when I
- 5:18was a child, I thought as a child, I spoke as a child.
- 5:21I understood as a child. And when I became a man, I put
- 5:23away childish things and I think we need to confine to Paul.
- 5:29I believe what was intended by what he was saying.
- 5:33There's a huge difference between And childish and being
- 5:36childlike. And I think when you look at
- 5:39what he said and what he said immediately before and what he
- 5:42says after you get the point of why Paul makes this statement
- 5:46that really does not have anything to do with everything
- 5:49that he said right before and it doesn't seem to have much to do
- 5:52with what he immediately says. After right before he makes that
- 5:56statement, you remember, he says we know in part and we prophesy
- 5:59in part. And right before he said that,
- 6:01you remember, he said, concerning tongues and knowledge
- 6:03and prophecies they will. Will either Ceaser vanish away.
- 6:08And so what Paul was saying is he understood that they were
- 6:12still receiving Divine knowledge and instruction from the Holy
- 6:16Spirit, the word that we have and it's completed form.
- 6:20They were were living in real time.
- 6:22They were living as it was being revealed.
- 6:24And so, they did not have the full picture.
- 6:26Paul had a lot of knowledge have been giving a lot of
- 6:28Revelations, but he didn't have the start to finish bull picture
- 6:32that we have in the completed Revelation that Blessed with
- 6:36today. So Paul understood, there was
- 6:38there was an incompleteness to what he and everyone else knew
- 6:43at this particular point in time.
- 6:44They knew enough, but they didn't know it all.
- 6:49And then he goes on to say, after making this statement
- 6:51about putting away childish things.
- 6:53He says, it's as if right now, we are looking at a dimly-lit
- 6:57reflection. Where we can see enough, but we
- 7:02can't see the full picture. And then he talks about when the
- 7:07time comes, when that Perfection.
- 7:09And I think there's maybe a couple of things are being
- 7:11discussed. You've probably heard in a
- 7:12discussion of, what does Paul mean about when that which is
- 7:18perfect is come? Then that which is in part,
- 7:20shall be done away. And I think a part of that is,
- 7:23yes, that when we have the complete perfect Revelation,
- 7:27then our partial understanding will be done away with when the
- 7:32knowledge could finish has its Revelation to the Or two Riders,
- 7:36and it's not just a partial knowledge, but a complete
- 7:39knowledge, then then we'll have the perfect law.
- 7:41But I believe also, Paul is looking into the future.
- 7:45He sang, as long as we're in the flesh, as long as we're here,
- 7:47even though we have the completed revelation.
- 7:49We can't fully understand what God's intention for us is.
- 7:56And he says, at towards the end of 1st Corinthians, 13, we will
- 8:01eventually there's going to be a time is coming where we will
- 8:04know as we have been known. That's a very interesting
- 8:10statement that Paul makes. In other words, we'll get to see
- 8:13ourselves when that which is perfect is come.
- 8:16And I think also, yes, we're talking about a completed
- 8:20Revelation, but I think in part also, Paul is talking about
- 8:23looking to that time where We get to be in the presence of God
- 8:28and it's no longer a dimly-lit reflection of ourselves.
- 8:32We're getting to see ourselves as he has been seeing us all
- 8:35along. And what he has been seeing all
- 8:38along is this beautiful childlike attitude demeanor
- 8:44disposition that. I believe he will return all of
- 8:48the save to when we get to heaven.
- 8:51There's a huge difference between being childish and being
- 8:55childlike. So I think in part basically
- 8:58what Paul is saying is I had limited spiritual knowledge in
- 9:02my beginning stages of my relationship with Christ.
- 9:06And and I am growing, and I maturing is Peter said in First,
- 9:10Peter, chapter 2 and verse 2, as newborn babes desire, the
- 9:13sincere milk of the word that you may grow.
- 9:16Thereby. You remember the Hebrew writer
- 9:17and Hebrews chapter 5, he starts talking about Christ's
- 9:20priesthood being after the order of Melchizedek around in verses
- 9:249 and 10, I think around in verse 11, he says and I really
- 9:27wanted to but he sing this through inspiration.
- 9:29Ation, the Hebrew writer really want to be able to write to you
- 9:31more about this, very meaty subject.
- 9:34This relationship between Christ's priesthood and the
- 9:37priesthood after the order of melchisedec, but he says, but
- 9:39you've become dull of hearing, you have need that, someone
- 9:44provides you with spiritual milk.
- 9:46You should be mature enough to be a teacher of the word and
- 9:50have another understanding that, that I could lay out to you,
- 9:54everything that I want to lay out to you concerning this very
- 9:56meaty topic, but you become dull of And have need that one, teach
- 10:01you again some of those first principles.
- 10:06Jesus in John chapter 16. Excuse Me. 2 verse 12.
- 10:12He's getting near the end of that.
- 10:14Long recorded conversation. The last one that he has before
- 10:18he goes into the garden and then is betrayed into the hands of
- 10:22Sinners. And he says, there's much more I
- 10:25want to say to you, but you cannot bear it.
- 10:29Now. In other words, you don't have
- 10:31the, the level of maturity. You don't have the level of
- 10:33understanding to be able to digest to be able to understand
- 10:38many of the things that I would like to be able to tell you, in
- 10:41addition to what I've already said.
- 10:44And so part of what Paul is talking about, is this maturity
- 10:47that we all should go through as Christians, where we grow and
- 10:52mature, we move from the milk of the word, to the meat of the
- 10:55word. And we have this better
- 10:57understanding. We were able to live our
- 10:59Christian Life In accordance with knowledge and wisdom and an
- 11:02application of all those things that we've learned.
- 11:07So in that way, he saying I've put away childish things.
- 11:11But oh, let's not put away. Child like things.
- 11:17So, I want to spend a few moments together, just talking
- 11:19about some of those childlike attributes that God wants us to
- 11:23cling to into adulthood. Jesus had so many wonderful
- 11:28things to say about little children.
- 11:32Matthew 11:25 after Jesus had pronounced woes until the onto
- 11:37the impenitent cities, Capernaum, bethsaida chorazin.
- 11:43He says in verse 25. I praise thee, O Father, Lord of
- 11:45Heaven and Earth that you did hide these things from the wise
- 11:48and intelligent and did reveal them to babes.
- 11:52In other words. What Jesus is saying is he's
- 11:55thinking God that those who have that, simple childlike, faith
- 11:58that trust. And what they were hearing that
- 12:02attachment to Jesus while he was in the flesh and that desire to
- 12:06learn from him to follow him. Jesus is saying, Lord.
- 12:09I Thank you that those are the kinds of folks that are
- 12:12receptive. To my teaching into your will
- 12:17are those that have this childlike way about them.
- 12:21This humble. Just tell me what I need to do.
- 12:24Tell me what I need to know. Tell me where I need to go and
- 12:28I'll do it. Matthew chapter 21 verse 16,
- 12:31Jesus in the temple. There are some young children
- 12:34that are Giving Him worship and praise saying Hosanna to the son
- 12:37of David. And you may remember there are
- 12:39some Chief priests and scribes who began to Grumble about these
- 12:43As children basically acknowledging, Jesus is the
- 12:46Messiah and they said, Jesus rebuked.
- 12:48Those children. Tell them to stop saying that.
- 12:52And then Jesus says to them. Have you never read and he
- 12:55quotes Psalm 82 out of the mouths of babes and nursing
- 12:58infants. You have perfected, praise. if
- 13:04you want to hear a perfectly song song, Listen to a young
- 13:09child singing. Jesus loves me.
- 13:12If you want to hear a perfectly said prayer, listen to a young
- 13:17child, say his prayers before bedtime.
- 13:21You want to hear something? That is perfect in the eyes of
- 13:23God. You listen to a young innocent
- 13:26child offer that praise. That's what Jesus was saying.
- 13:31Out of the mouths of babes and nursing infants.
- 13:34You have perfected, praise. Matthew chapter 18.
- 13:40Jesus asked a question that for some reason he was asked a
- 13:44number of times there was an obsession that even some of his
- 13:46disciples had with who's going to be greatest in the kingdom.
- 13:49And he's again, been asked that question.
- 13:52Matthew chapter 18 and verse 1 and Jesus draws a child unto him
- 13:57and places the child, in the midst of the crowd.
- 14:02And I love that Matthew included that detail.
- 14:05In other words. Jesus is using this child as a
- 14:07visual aid as an object lesson. For everyone who is there and
- 14:14overheard this question asked, and then Jesus gives the answer
- 14:18unless you were converted and become like this little child,
- 14:21you shall by no means enter the kingdom of it.
- 14:24You will know who the greatest is in the Kingdom of Heaven.
- 14:28Look. He's not talking about the age
- 14:31of the child. He's talking about those
- 14:34childlike attributes that this little child possessed that he's
- 14:38expecting for all those who desire eternal life to be able
- 14:42to maintain and keep into adulthood.
- 14:48Matthew chapter 19 and verse 14. There are some who've been
- 14:51trying to get little children to Jesus so that he might lay his
- 14:54hands on them and bless them the disciples for some reason, don't
- 14:58think that that is needful at the time and necessary.
- 15:01They start trying to rebuke those that are trying to do so
- 15:05and remove the children from the Lord.
- 15:07And Jesus says, permit it to be. So, Or such is the kingdom of
- 15:12heaven. And he draws the children to
- 15:15him. Lays his hands on them and
- 15:18blesses them Benjamin. We were talking just a few weeks
- 15:21ago about that and vision made a statement.
- 15:24I said, I'm a file that one away that that is fantastic.
- 15:28We were talking about this special relationship that we see
- 15:31in Scripture that Jesus had with children.
- 15:33And and Benjamin said it's like innocence was attracting
- 15:37innocence. Jesus saw the innocence in those
- 15:41children, those children saw the innocence in Christ.
- 15:43It was like these two things being drawn together.
- 15:47I thought that was a beautiful description of who Jesus was and
- 15:51what his relationship with little children was like.
- 15:55So we could spend all day talking about childlike
- 15:59attributes that God wants us to maintain in our adult life.
- 16:03We've picked just a few for us to consider for a few moments
- 16:07together. This morning.
- 16:08Number one, those precious little children are uncorrupted
- 16:11by the world. Isn't that one of the joys
- 16:15there's no Regina in rural area of just looking at that
- 16:18grandchild. These are that little mouth is
- 16:20never said, a bad word. Those little hands have never
- 16:24done a bad thing. Those eyes have never looked at
- 16:30a Bad Thing, totally uncorrupted by the world, unblemished
- 16:38children are so precious because of that, innocence James 1:27,
- 16:45pure and undefiled religion, is this to visit the fatherless and
- 16:48the widows in their Affliction. And let's not forget the second
- 16:51part to keep oneself unspotted depending on the translation.
- 16:57That you're reading from unstained uncorrupted from the
- 17:00world, to do, all we can to maintain that childlike
- 17:06Incorruptible uncorrupted state. Second Peter 3 and verse 14.
- 17:12Therefore, beloved since you look for these things, the new
- 17:15Heaven and new earth that had just talked about in the
- 17:17preceding verses. Since you look for these things,
- 17:19this Dwelling Place With God, be diligent to be found by him.
- 17:23How in peace spotless and blameless?
- 17:28What is a childlike trait that we need to carry on into our
- 17:31adult life? Let's be to the best of our
- 17:35ability uncorrupted, by the war. But you may say, but I've done
- 17:40bad things. I've seen bad things.
- 17:42How am I going to Do this. How is that possible?
- 17:49I spent some period of my life looking at things.
- 17:51I shouldn't have doing things that that I shouldn't have
- 17:54saying things that I shouldn't have.
- 17:55How in the world can can I be unspotted from the world?
- 17:59Paul provides us with a lot of Hope and Ephesians chapter 4
- 18:01beginning in verse 21, when he says if indeed you have heard
- 18:05him and have been taught by him. As the truth is in Jesus that
- 18:08you put off concerning your former conduct.
- 18:11So Paul is talking about that very scenario.
- 18:14Those of you who spent a portion of your life, maybe your entire
- 18:17adult life, living a corrupted life saying things, you
- 18:22shouldn't doing things, you shouldn't going places that you
- 18:25shouldn't. That's your former conduct the
- 18:27old man, which grows corrupt. According to the deceitful
- 18:30lusts, verse 23, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind.
- 18:35Paul is not telling us something that is impossible.
- 18:38He's telling us something that is attainable.
- 18:42It's a it's possible for a mental renewal.
- 18:45It's possible that we can move from being corrupted to this
- 18:51unspotted state that God Longs for us to be here, renewed in
- 18:55the spirit of your mind that you put on the new man, which was
- 18:57created according to God, the new man, which was created
- 19:01according to God. Doing what we can to get back to
- 19:05the way that we were when he brought us into the world that
- 19:09precious uncorrupted little baby spiritually.
- 19:13Speaking returning to that state, you put on the new man,
- 19:17which created according to God in true righteousness and
- 19:21holiness. The word of God is powerful.
- 19:25It has a transformative component to it and it can help
- 19:29us. Even if we spent years living a
- 19:33corrupted, life through a mental renewal through a rededication
- 19:37in a submission to Christ as our King, as our Lord allowing his
- 19:42light to light. Our Pathway to direct our steps,
- 19:46we can have this sense of spiritual renewal and move more
- 19:49closely to. We're never going to be perfect.
- 19:53We're trying to get back to as close as we can be to this
- 19:56spotless uncorrupted blameless, state, that little children.
- 20:00Enjoy. Number two with childlike and
- 20:06it's related to the first attribute that we need to try to
- 20:09keep into adulthood. Is that attribute of innocence?
- 20:12And I know that's a lot of similarity between not being
- 20:16corrupted and being innocent First, Peter chapter 3 and verse
- 20:1917. Peter says, if you should suffer
- 20:21suffer for doing what is right? Don't suffer for doing things
- 20:27that are wrong. Basically don't don't bring
- 20:29things upon yourself. That were avoidable because of
- 20:32bad decisions and bad choices. If you have to suffer suffer for
- 20:36doing what is right, Matthew chapter 10, and verse 16, Jesus
- 20:40getting ready to send his Apostles out.
- 20:41I think for the first time on their own to do some
- 20:44evangelizing, some teaching. And he says be wise as serpents
- 20:49and harmless depending on the translation you're reading from
- 20:51or innocent as doves be harmless.
- 20:55Don't don't cause any harm to anybody that you encounter.
- 20:58As you go out, representing me, Philippians chapter 2 verses, 14
- 21:04and 15, do all things without complaining and disputing that
- 21:06you may become blameless and harmless children of God without
- 21:11fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation among
- 21:15whom you shine. As lights in the world.
- 21:19Let's try to the best of our ability to hold on to that state
- 21:22of Innocence that children. Enjoy.
- 21:25And let's be to the best of our ability and our adult life,
- 21:28those that are causing no harm, those that are innocent, those
- 21:32that are serving as a blameless example.
- 21:37In a crooked and perverse generation.
- 21:41One of the things that is so enjoyable about real little
- 21:45children. Is basically what they are
- 21:50saying. If they could say, is when they
- 21:52see you, as you are enough, you are enough when y'all start
- 21:57getting the facial interactions back.
- 21:59I mean, I know your experience this, you know, with a
- 22:01millionaire and but you get to relive all those things over
- 22:04again. And little babies, you know,
- 22:08when they start giving you the facial return for what you're
- 22:12giving to them. Dave.
- 22:14I know you're experiencing this, when you come home from work,
- 22:16it's their face lights up. They hadn't seen.
- 22:18Dave all day. Dave, doesn't have to come home
- 22:21with Zaxby's for Weston's room. He has to come home at Zaxby's
- 22:25for Brookie before he gets, you know, the time of day for hurry.
- 22:29He doesn't have to come home with Zaxby's for them.
- 22:33He doesn't have to have a toy to put in their hand.
- 22:37He doesn't have to have any surprises or treat.
- 22:40He was enough. And then he just shows up their
- 22:43face lights up, man. Dad's home.
- 22:48What a beautiful thing. It is about little children
- 22:51where you get you just feel so special when they're just
- 22:55smiling at you just because you're smiling at them.
- 22:59They give you this. This look of man.
- 23:02You were awesome and you've not done anything.
- 23:04He's not giving them anything. You're just there.
- 23:06You're enough. Oh man, Adam your comment and
- 23:10brother Danny, your comment in the Bible class.
- 23:14I was thinking those are so spot-on with regard to this this
- 23:19particular point. Yeah, brother.
- 23:23Danny was talking about there was a place that he attended
- 23:27years ago where there was an influential family that had come
- 23:31to visit. And there were some people in
- 23:33the congregation at home and we need to get them because they're
- 23:35people of influence and and they're people of wealth.
- 23:39And they'll be really really good for us here basing their
- 23:44level of interest in them on what they're bringing to the
- 23:47table. Brother.
- 23:49Adam was talking about some of the conversions, they had.
- 23:55One of you is Missouri, Illinois.
- 23:58I knew that I don't know why. The state just told me some of
- 24:01the inversion conversion stories.
- 24:02They had in the four years that they were there and it was those
- 24:05that were in hard times difficult situations down on
- 24:11their luck. They didn't have really that
- 24:13much at that particular time of their life to bring to the
- 24:15table, because they were just trying to keep their head above
- 24:17water. But that congregation and Adam,
- 24:21they reached out to these people and converted them, brought them
- 24:24to Christ. They weren't measuring their
- 24:26worthiness, for sharing the gospel with them based on.
- 24:29Okay. What do you have to give us in
- 24:32return? We need to maintain that
- 24:34childlike attitude with everybody that we know, and
- 24:39especially showering on our Brothers and Sisters in Christ
- 24:41that you're enough. Man, let's get excited when we
- 24:45see each other. How are you doing?
- 24:47You know with just great to see is there any?
- 24:51There's nothing being exchanged. As far as goods and services is
- 24:55just wow, you're enough. It is great to see you.
- 25:00How have you been? James chapter 2 beginning in
- 25:05verse 1, my brethren, do not hold the Faith of Our Lord.
- 25:07Jesus Christ, the lord of Glory with partiality for, if there
- 25:11should come into your assembly, a man with gold rings and fine
- 25:14apparel and there should also come in a poor man.
- 25:16And filthy clothes, you pay, you pay attention to the one wearing
- 25:20the fine clothes and say to him. You sit here in a good place and
- 25:23say to the poor man, you stand there or sit here at my
- 25:26footstool. Have you not showing partiality
- 25:28among yourselves? Become judges with evil
- 25:31thoughts. Listen, my beloved brethren.
- 25:34Has God not chosen. The poor of this world to be
- 25:36rich in faith and Heirs of the Kingdom, which he promised to
- 25:39those who love him. Holy Spirit through James is
- 25:43Essence in essence is saying to the first century church when
- 25:47somebody comes into your midst, you don't worry about what
- 25:52they're bringing to the table because he or she is simply
- 25:56enough. That's what brother.
- 25:58Danny said in his comment. We have to remind ourselves that
- 26:01everybody possesses a soul that is worth more than the whole
- 26:04world. It's enough.
- 26:07Doesn't matter what skill set, they provide, what money, they
- 26:11have, what influence? They have, how it can help your
- 26:14reputation as a church. No, you are enough.
- 26:21Second Peter. Chapter 3 and verse 9.
- 26:22God is not willing that any should perish, but that all
- 26:27should come to repentance. God sees the value in every
- 26:31single human being that exists in the face of the Earth or
- 26:34every single human being he or she in God's eyes, is enough is
- 26:39worth sending his son. For we should look at one
- 26:42another. The same way Luke chapter, 14
- 26:45and verse 23, the parable of the great supper and the founder of
- 26:48the feast to send a service out, let everybody know.
- 26:50The feast is ready. And you remember several, the
- 26:53ones that they invited upfront. Declined, for various reasons,
- 26:57they come back and they said, Some are here but a lot of seats
- 27:01are available. He sends them back out.
- 27:03A second time. They come back again.
- 27:06You still got plenty of room. He says will.
- 27:08Then you go to the highways and the hedges.
- 27:11In other words you go to society's Castaways.
- 27:14Those people that are invisible. To so many around them and you
- 27:20invite them because my supper table is going to be full.
- 27:25My house is going to be full. Nobody was exempt from an
- 27:32invitation. A childlike trait that we need
- 27:38to continue into adulthood is the childhood trade of
- 27:42forgiveness. Many of you I should say
- 27:45probably all of you have not heard a conversation like this
- 27:49between two five-year-olds where a five-year-old comes up to
- 27:51another five-year-old, say hey, you want to play and the other
- 27:54five year old says, I remember when I was three and three
- 27:57quarters years old. You called me a peanut head and
- 28:02I vowed on that day. Never to play with you again.
- 28:07So, we're done. You know what most little
- 28:10children do that. They may have some kind of
- 28:13conversation with each other that says, I'm never speaking to
- 28:15you again. As long as I live.
- 28:19Apparently their lifespan was only about five more minutes
- 28:21because they started speaking again to that person that they
- 28:25had just vowed. Never speaking to you again.
- 28:27You are not my friend anymore. I'm not talking to you.
- 28:30And then five minutes later, they're back.
- 28:33Playing that board game again. Children are quick to forgive,
- 28:39shouldn't we be as well? Colossians chapter 3 verses 12
- 28:43through 14. Therefore as the elect of God,
- 28:45holy and beloved put on Tender Mercies kindness, humility
- 28:48meekness. Long-suffering that's a whole
- 28:51list of childlike traits that we need to maintain into adulthood
- 28:55bearing with one another forgiving one.
- 28:56Another, if anyone has a complaint against another even
- 28:59as Christ forgave you. So you also must do Let's be
- 29:06quick to forgive. the way that children are, And maintain that
- 29:12childlike trade into adulthood, just a couple of more this
- 29:16morning. Let's continue to be amazed as
- 29:20adults at God's wonders, the way that we were, as little
- 29:23children. I know, one of the things that
- 29:26so fun, when you're a parent or grandparent of little children
- 29:29is is the all the amazement they see in just the little things,
- 29:32you know, we may not pay one bit of attention to that butterfly
- 29:35that just flew by, but they do We may not notice that Rolie
- 29:40Polie in the dirt. We're out there in the yard with
- 29:42them, but they do and man. They're Amazed by it.
- 29:45It's awesome. Let's spend some time.
- 29:49Looking at it. I remember being a little kid
- 29:52and I could just spend an hour over an ant bed, not always
- 29:55doing the nicest things to the ants, but still being very
- 29:59interested in what was going on with that ant bed.
- 30:04My wife is really good at this at.
- 30:07You. Got to come out and see this
- 30:08Sunset. We've got a neighbor in the
- 30:11neighborhood. Rob matter.
- 30:13We were talking about it just last night.
- 30:15Every night. She goes and takes a picture of
- 30:18the sunset. Never loses that sense of
- 30:22appreciation, that sense of Wonder, Man, the things that God
- 30:27does for us a daily basis. That sometimes as adults we get
- 30:30busy, we get distracted. We get maybe two used to it.
- 30:34And we lose that sense of wonder, we lose that sense of
- 30:38Amazement at the wonderful things.
- 30:40God does for us. Every day.
- 30:42He brings the Sun up every morning.
- 30:44He has it set every night and how often do we just go for days
- 30:49without I'd even pay any attention to that particular,
- 30:52wonderful aspect of God's creation.
- 30:55With our homeschool Chapel that we started last week.
- 30:58We're working through a documentary that's called the
- 31:01God of Wonders and the people that did this documentary just
- 31:06do a fantastic job of just revealing some of those.
- 31:09I know AP is put out some excellent material on this as
- 31:12well. Just these amazing things all
- 31:14around us that are part of God's creation and this particular
- 31:17part of the documentary that we watch this.
- 31:19Past week, dealt a lot with the sun and the planets and outer
- 31:24space. And we were just talking about
- 31:26the fact that God creates this son, that is 93 million miles
- 31:32from Earth. And yet on an August day, you
- 31:35can walk out and start feeling the effects of that star.
- 31:38That's 93 Million Miles Away, within seconds.
- 31:43You don't have to stay out very long with your skin exposed to
- 31:46it and get burnt by it. It's 93 million miles away and
- 31:51it's been burning since God, put it there.
- 31:53And it's not burned up and it provides heat for us to sustain
- 31:58life here. It is so huge.
- 32:03I didn't know this until watching the video.
- 32:05The first time I watched it, the sun is so massive.
- 32:09That and we talked about this in the chapel that if you can
- 32:11imagine the sun just to for a to-scale illustration.
- 32:16Imagine the Sun as a gumball machine and imagine planet Earth
- 32:20as a gumball. How many planet Earth's can fit
- 32:23inside of the planet son? A million planet, Earth's can
- 32:28fit inside the volume of the Sun and then they started talking
- 32:33about but the sun is relatively small.
- 32:35When you look at some of the other stars in just in our solar
- 32:38system and they started talking about some of the others and
- 32:41Betelgeuse is one that they mentioned that I don't even
- 32:44remember how many billions of miles.
- 32:45It is away from planet Earth on certain nights.
- 32:48You can see it with the naked eye and it is its radius as 30
- 32:53times that of the Sun. Meaning I'm not a math major,
- 32:59but what is that? 30 million?
- 33:02Planet Earth's are fitting inside a Betelgeuse sized,
- 33:07gumball machine. And we see the wonders of God's
- 33:13creation all around us. Children notice those things.
- 33:19Maybe we as adults we lose sight and we lose appreciation.
- 33:24Psalm 66 and verse 5 come and see the works of God who is
- 33:28awesome in his deeds among men, what got us in.
- 33:31Never stop being Amazed by what I have done.
- 33:36Just look around you and as Paul said, in Romans 1:20, use your
- 33:41common sense. And observe the invisible
- 33:43attributes of God. Better all around us.
- 33:47Psalm 119 verse 1, the heavens declare, the glory of God, and
- 33:50the firmament shows his handiwork.
- 33:52He wants us to observe these things and just being all of
- 33:55him. He wants us to look at these
- 33:57things regularly and just thank him for them.
- 34:01My grandson's have had enough. One is bailing on me right now.
- 34:08I don't know which one I don't want to know because I want to
- 34:10show partiality. Want to see it in later.
- 34:18One more that I want to share. Then we'll bring the lesson to a
- 34:22close. Let's not lose childlike,
- 34:26enthusiasm. Children get excited over
- 34:30sometimes, even the smallest thing. when I was bouncing, some
- 34:34of these things off of me, and she she mentioned this, when she
- 34:39said, I remember being a little kid.
- 34:41And when I found out that I was invited over to a friend's
- 34:44house, that had a swimming pool. When he said, I could not eat, I
- 34:47could not sleep. I could not wait for the
- 34:52opportunity to go to this friend's house.
- 34:53Just so excited. So enthused childlike.
- 34:59Enthusiasm is so wonderful and the Lord does not want us to
- 35:02lose it. In our adulthood.
- 35:07Titus Chapter 2 and verse 14 says, who gave himself for us.
- 35:10That he might redeem us from every Lawless deed and purify
- 35:13for himself. His own special, people zealous
- 35:16for good works. What is a synonym for Zeal for
- 35:20zealousness, enthusiasm. It's being excited.
- 35:26Romans 12:11, we're told to be fervent in spirit enthusiastic
- 35:33in our spirit and our mindset relationship to 10 verse 14,
- 35:37Paul, and talking about the what motivated him to persecute the
- 35:41church before coming to a knowledge of Christ talked about
- 35:44his his Zeal, his enthusiasm. He said I advanced in Judaism
- 35:48Beyond many of my contemporaries in my own Nation being more
- 35:51exceedingly zealous for the traditions of my father's.
- 35:57In one occasion when Paul is recounting, the kind of person
- 36:02that he was before his conversion.
- 36:04He said concerning persecution. He was, I think the original
- 36:09King James uses the word injury has, I had no idea what that
- 36:13word meant. So I had to go to the Greg, try
- 36:15to figure out and basically what that word means is that not only
- 36:19did Paul persecute the church, but he persecuted the church
- 36:22enthusiastically. He got a lot of fulfillment out
- 36:29of persecuting the church because he thought he was
- 36:32honoring God in the what he thought was the correct
- 36:35traditions of the fathers. So Paul thought in his zela
- 36:40service to God, I'm going to show you how zealous I am by
- 36:43persecuting the church. So he enthusiastically engaged
- 36:46in this persecution to show to the Lord how dedicated he was.
- 36:50I am going to do all I can to stamp out this group of rebels
- 36:53that are now saying that the traditions of our fathers are of
- 36:57no effect have been done away. Lord new concerning, Paul.
- 37:04If I can get this kind of enthusiasm, this kind of zeal
- 37:07pointed in the right direction. There's no stopping this guy.
- 37:13And so Paul got turned around. And spiritually started.
- 37:17Journeying the opposite way that he had been.
- 37:21But he never lost his enthusiasm.
- 37:24He never lost his zeal. He maintained that enthusiasm
- 37:29that Zeal until his dying breath.
- 37:34Matthew 19:14 permit it to be. So Jesus concerning the little
- 37:40children. or if such is the Kingdom of Heaven, one
- 37:44commentator said, They who would enter, Christ's Kingdom must be
- 37:49pure. Simple.
- 37:51Obedient as little children. That is why he says of such not
- 37:56of these intimating. That is not to the age, but to
- 38:00the disposition of character to which he refers.
- 38:06God is calling on us to look to those precious children.
- 38:09The way that he used a little child in Matthew 18 is an object
- 38:12lesson as a visual aid. Unless you were converted become
- 38:14like this little child. Like him have his disposition,
- 38:18have his attitude, his demeanor have his humility, have his
- 38:22quick ability to forgive have his urine enough mentality.
- 38:28Had his enthusiasm and his you. Have his innocence.
- 38:35Have his uncorrupted nature. Let's keep those childlike,
- 38:41traits, as best as we can. As long as we live.
- 38:46Maybe there's somewhere here this morning.
- 38:48You're not a child of God. You've not enjoy the blessings.
- 38:51That come from forgiveness. What does God say about the
- 38:55journey that he wants us to travel?
- 38:58So then faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.
- 39:00Romans 10 verse 17. That's where faith is born is
- 39:03hearing the word of God. Once we've heard it.
- 39:05He calls on us to believe what we have heard.
- 39:11Unless you believe John Eaton first 24 Jesus says that I am,
- 39:16you shall die in your sins. If we believe that Jesus is The
- 39:20Great. I Am that he was God, in human
- 39:21form, who came lived. I'd lived a perfect life,
- 39:25offered his body as a sacrifice for the sins.
- 39:27Then what is he calling us to do the same thing that Peter said
- 39:32to the multitude on the day of Pentecost when they were cut to
- 39:34the heart where they came to this realization and
- 39:36understanding on my, the one that we crucified is both Lord
- 39:38and God. What do we need to do repent and
- 39:43be baptized for the remission of your sins?
- 39:47And receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
- 39:50Repent. Turn your back on that old Way.
- 39:53Start walking in that new Direction, being guided and
- 39:56directed by The Lure going down in those Waters of baptism.
- 39:59Coming out. Is Paul says in Romans chapter 6
- 40:02verses, 1 through 4 New Creation, ready to walk in
- 40:04newness of Life. You've not done that.
- 40:06Please do. So this morning.
- 40:08You've done that but You've been LED back through circumstances,
- 40:14through Temptation, whatever it is.
- 40:15Back to those old ways. What did Paul say you can come
- 40:19back. Again?
- 40:20Renewing, Your Mind. The Lord is willing ready and
- 40:23able to forgive to restore to renew you to give you an
- 40:28opportunity to start again in a relationship with him.
- 40:31If we can help in any way, please come as Together, We
- 40:33Stand and sing.
