- 1:51Speaker 1: give us a follow on X at OHL and 60
- 1:53Speaker 1: podcasts as well as on Instagram at the Owen 60 podcast.
- 1:58Speaker 1: We've got a lot of news to go over. Again,
- 1:59Speaker 1: a lot of headlines in the first couple of weeks. Captaincies, trades,
- 2:03Speaker 1: a lot of other things as well. Dima Zilkin, some
- 2:07Speaker 1: good news for him. We've got some trades, as I mentioned.
- 2:10Speaker 1: We've got tributes, different sort of things. Sarnia making some history,
- 2:15Speaker 1: I guess you can say. We'll get into that.
- 2:17Speaker 2: They're stinging this year, BC.
- 2:20Speaker 1: They are. I mean, we're on the Sarnia hype train.
- 2:23Speaker 1: The battle to 68-0 is down to three teams. We'll
- 2:25Speaker 1: get into that a little bit. We'll talk about our
- 2:27Speaker 1: performers of the week. We'll also give our debuting segment,
- 2:30Speaker 1: our Stick Taps of the Week, brought to you by
- 2:31Speaker 1: Bud Ends, where Colin and I are going to give
- 2:33Speaker 1: shout-outs to players or teams that we thought deserved it
- 2:36Speaker 1: this week. And we're also going to talk to London
- 2:40Speaker 1: Knights' longtime play-by-play voice, the one and the only Mike Stubbs,
- 2:43Speaker 1: going to join us in about 40 minutes' time today,
- 2:46Speaker 1: talk a little bit about the London Knights' start and
- 2:48Speaker 1: just chopping it up with him. Been in the Ontario
- 2:51Speaker 1: Hockey League a long time, and for Colin and I,
- 2:54Speaker 1: somebody that we really respect and look up to, uh,
- 2:56Speaker 1: in the, uh, the OHL media round. So, uh, look
- 2:58Speaker 1: forward to talking to Mike and then we'll finish off
- 3:00Speaker 1: with the power rankings and our Friday night face-off pick that, uh,
- 3:04Speaker 1: Colin advises me every single week here on the show.
- 3:06Speaker 1: So with that said, Colin, I know it was an
- 3:08Speaker 1: exciting week for us in, uh, in football land. Uh,
- 3:11Speaker 1: you know, he was finally got, uh, got some good starts, but, uh,
- 3:15Speaker 1: maybe it'll transition to hockey season. I don't know.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Yeah. I don't know. The Sabres will be good. The
- 3:19Speaker 2: Red Wings will be junk. Um, get that over with
- 3:22Speaker 2: right away. It's September 29th for those watching on YouTube
- 3:26Speaker 2: with my light problems today. My light literally just collapsed
- 3:29Speaker 2: two minutes ago. Maybe two minutes ago.
- 3:32Speaker 1: What a start.
- 3:34Speaker 2: We're in one. What a start. Yeah, have a day.
- 3:37Speaker 2: I'm like Vladdy trying to hit a baseball right now,
- 3:39Speaker 2: trying to put a light up. That just doesn't happen.
- 3:42Speaker 2: It's impossible. It just won't happen.
- 3:45Speaker 3: So there's that.
- 3:46Speaker 2: But, yeah, no, it was a great football week for us, Brandon.
- 3:48Speaker 2: It doesn't happen too often. College, it does. Texas, the
- 3:51Speaker 2: Ohio State University. That's going to happen. But the NFL,
- 3:55Speaker 2: the Falcons, Broncos, you guys were kind of good, and
- 3:57Speaker 2: the Broncos went through it a little bit. You know,
- 4:00Speaker 2: and the Falcons battled the first two weeks. But to
- 4:03Speaker 2: get these wins in week three is when the season starts, BC.
- 4:07Speaker 2: So there we go. There we go.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Primetime games. We're on three straight. So the NFL was
- 4:12Speaker 1: happy that Cooper Rush was not going to be starting
- 4:14Speaker 1: this week. You know what?
- 4:16Speaker 2: Don't worry. Remember when we had Russell Wilson starting? We
- 4:18Speaker 2: got like three points in a game on primetime sport.
- 4:21Speaker 2: And they put us on the primetime games like six
- 4:23Speaker 2: times the first year that Russ was there in Broncos country. Oh, my.
- 4:28Speaker 2: That was terrible. I remember the game against Indianapolis. And
- 4:31Speaker 2: anyone that remembers, let us know on social media. But
- 4:34Speaker 2: that was the worst game of all time when it
- 4:36Speaker 2: was like 7-6. And it was terrible. That one in
- 4:41Speaker 2: the San Fran game when Garoppolo was there. There was
- 4:43Speaker 2: just nothing.
- 4:44Speaker 4: So.
- 4:45Speaker 2: It's nice to get the wins, Brandon. It's nice to
- 4:46Speaker 2: get the wins.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll take them, I guess. Especially, you know, I
- 4:49Speaker 1: was about to be ready for an 0-3 and now
- 4:51Speaker 1: we're second in the division because the NFC South is
- 4:54Speaker 1: so bad.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Takes one week.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Hey, yeah. And yeah, the Broncos pulling out another late one.
- 4:59Speaker 2: But yeah, maybe the Broncos game without it.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Maybe they can be on our power rankings this week.
- 5:04Speaker 1: But well, like I mentioned, today's show topic is going
- 5:06Speaker 1: to go over OHL headlines. The Bulldogs, the Wolves and
- 5:08Speaker 1: the Knights remain undefeated. You know, there's a couple undefeated
- 5:12Speaker 1: teams in the NFL, too. Maybe they're taking notes from
- 5:13Speaker 1: these OHLers. Performers of the week, stick taps of the week. Again,
- 5:17Speaker 1: Knights voice, Mike Stubbs, new, new station for him this
- 5:20Speaker 1: year as well. Look forward to talking to him about
- 5:22Speaker 1: that transition. And then, like I said, power rankings and
- 5:24Speaker 1: our Friday night face off pick, which I'm now one
- 5:26Speaker 1: in one after picking up the big W with the
- 5:28Speaker 1: Saginaw spirit over the Niagara ice dogs last week with
- 5:31Speaker 1: calling it a great advisory hammer.
- 5:34Speaker 2: I'm one to know, want to know in the Colin
- 5:36Speaker 2: Warren era.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I was Owen one. And after I lost the
- 5:39Speaker 1: first week, I said, Yeah, I needed to bring in
- 5:41Speaker 1: somebody for the front office department.
- 5:44Speaker 2: I'm the old grizzled vet that's like just an old
- 5:47Speaker 2: front office member that you just bring back. Senior advisor. Yeah,
- 5:51Speaker 2: senior advisor.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Just that guy that knows ball, you know.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Ball, don't lie.
- 5:58Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 5:59Speaker 1: So let's get going here, Colin. We got about 30
- 6:03Speaker 1: minutes until Mike Stubbs is going to join us. We've
- 6:04Speaker 1: got a lot of headlines to go over, like I
- 6:06Speaker 1: mentioned off the top, just based off of it'd be
- 6:08Speaker 1: in the first couple of weeks of the Ontario hockey
- 6:10Speaker 1: league season. So trades captaincy is getting named. We'll start
- 6:14Speaker 1: off with the, the captaincies and the Sarnia leadership group
- 6:19Speaker 1: were buzzing about the sting this year. And now Alessandro
- 6:22Speaker 1: D'Orio named the captain of the Sarnia sting. He's returns
- 6:25Speaker 1: as the captain after returning as the captain last season,
- 6:30Speaker 1: Jack Van Volsen, Cameron, a coin Cole Emerton and Parker
- 6:33Speaker 1: Holmes will join D'Orio in the leadership group, wearing the
- 6:37Speaker 1: alternate A's. So again, DeOrio coming back, it was wondering,
- 6:41Speaker 1: you know, after Beckham Edwards left, is DeOrio going to
- 6:43Speaker 1: be next? But we talked to him at the NHL
- 6:46Speaker 1: Combine call and he said he wanted to come back
- 6:48Speaker 1: to Sarnia. And, you know, he's very loyal to that
- 6:50Speaker 1: team that drafted him, you know, out of AAA. So
- 6:54Speaker 1: for a guy now, you know, being an NHL drafted
- 6:56Speaker 1: prospect and a guy that wants to be in Sarnia,
- 6:59Speaker 1: I think is big for that culture group to try
- 7:00Speaker 1: to turn it around.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Yeah, Brandon, I love it. I love, you know, I
- 7:04Speaker 2: think it's an automatic decision with Alessandro. I think everything
- 7:07Speaker 2: he's brought to the sting the last couple of seasons,
- 7:09Speaker 2: you know, and the adversity he's went through as a
- 7:11Speaker 2: team with the sting, right. Not just Alexander, Alessandro, it's
- 7:14Speaker 2: been the whole team. Right. So I think for the
- 7:16Speaker 2: sting to get a little bit stability here at captaincy
- 7:20Speaker 2: in their leadership group, right. Coins, a guy that's been
- 7:23Speaker 2: there a long time, Jack van Volsen. He feels like
- 7:25Speaker 2: that guy, Brandon has been the league for ever, you know, like,
- 7:30Speaker 2: my first game in the Ontario hockey league. And now like,
- 7:32Speaker 2: Oh yeah, he's still here. Like there's, he's one of
- 7:34Speaker 2: those guys that feels like he's played in the league
- 7:36Speaker 2: for like eight years instead of the four or five.
- 7:39Speaker 2: That's prototypical. But I feel like for that leadership group
- 7:42Speaker 2: in particular, I'll get to Cole and Parker in a
- 7:45Speaker 2: few moments, but with Cameron O'Coin, Jack Van Volsen, right.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Those guys have kind of been through it as a
- 7:51Speaker 2: team the last couple of seasons. Right. And I think
- 7:53Speaker 2: for the front office and the coaching staff to name
- 7:56Speaker 2: the captaincy, the way they did. I mean, these are
- 7:59Speaker 2: guys that are going to play desperate hockey. They're going
- 8:00Speaker 2: to lead by example. They don't want, they know what
- 8:02Speaker 2: the bad times were like in Sarnia and they can't
- 8:04Speaker 2: wait to be a part of the solution. And they
- 8:06Speaker 2: have the honor of being able to lead this, to
- 8:08Speaker 2: lead the Ontario hockey league franchise into being the solution
- 8:12Speaker 2: in Sarnia. And I honestly, I truly believe, and not
- 8:14Speaker 2: just this weekend, it's early in the year. It's three
- 8:17Speaker 2: to five games in for teams. I'm not getting too
- 8:20Speaker 2: high on myself yet, but like, this has got to
- 8:23Speaker 2: be the year that Sarnia sting make the playoffs. I've
- 8:25Speaker 2: said it since day one of the show this year,
- 8:27Speaker 2: And I'm going to harp on that all season. Even
- 8:29Speaker 2: if they lose the next five in a row, I'm
- 8:30Speaker 2: still going to believe the Sarnia Sting can make the playoffs.
- 8:33Speaker 2: This team is a team that is going to be
- 8:35Speaker 2: a desperate hockey team. They're in second in the Western
- 8:37Speaker 2: Conference through four games, albeit. But this team, in my opinion,
- 8:42Speaker 2: knows how to compete. It's just about bringing the pieces
- 8:44Speaker 2: all together. And Alessandro Cole Emerton from Barry last year
- 8:49Speaker 2: is what he did with the Barry Colts in the postseason.
- 8:51Speaker 2: The playoff run that he had for Barry going to
- 8:53Speaker 2: the OHL finals was massive for him. And obviously Parker
- 8:56Speaker 2: Holmes with the run, he went onto the Eastern conference
- 8:58Speaker 2: final with the Brantford Bulldogs last year. Right? So those
- 9:01Speaker 2: are two guys you're bringing into leadership that just went up,
- 9:04Speaker 2: that are just coming off playoff runs who can show
- 9:07Speaker 2: the younger guys, the Brennan and Lammons of the world.
- 9:10Speaker 2: Hey guys, your drafter, you're 17 years old. This is
- 9:14Speaker 2: how we do things in the OHL. This is what
- 9:15Speaker 2: a winning program does is we just saw with Barry,
- 9:17Speaker 2: what we just saw with Brantford. Now it's time to
- 9:20Speaker 2: do this thing in Sarnia. And I truly believe the
- 9:22Speaker 2: Sarnia stinger right there, right on the cusp of making
- 9:24Speaker 2: the playoffs. Let's be honest. if it wasn't for a
- 9:26Speaker 2: couple of bad stretches of hockey, they're a playoff team, right?
- 9:29Speaker 2: The last couple of seasons. So for this thing, it's
- 9:31Speaker 2: about getting it over the hump. And I think this
- 9:33Speaker 2: is the year. Now, Alessandro being an elite player in
- 9:36Speaker 2: our league, I think it's an opportunity for him to
- 9:39Speaker 2: really boost his stock as an NHL prospect for the
- 9:43Speaker 2: next level.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Yeah, while we're on the subject here, we might as
- 9:46Speaker 1: well go into the second part of our Sarnia Sting
- 9:49Speaker 1: headlines this week. With Sunday's 10-3 win in Ottawa, Sarnia
- 9:52Speaker 1: Sting snapped a losing streak in the nation's capital that
- 9:55Speaker 1: had lasted 6,888 days. Their previous last regular season. win
- 10:00Speaker 1: in Ottawa, they only go there once a season, by
- 10:02Speaker 1: the way, I should preface that, came on November 18th
- 10:06Speaker 1: of 2007 when Matt Martin scored twice in a 3-1 victory.
- 10:10Speaker 2: Twice in the Hall of Fame.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, guy had a long National Hockey League career,
- 10:15Speaker 1: the Islanders, the Leafs, and obviously was a, Proud Sarnia
- 10:18Speaker 1: Sting alum. I believe he was honored there last year
- 10:21Speaker 1: as well. But yeah, I mean, for the Sting, like
- 10:23Speaker 1: you mentioned, second place in the Western Conference. And to
- 10:25Speaker 1: get a confidence building win like that in a place
- 10:28Speaker 1: that's given them been a house of horrors for them
- 10:30Speaker 1: as we reach Halloween season here, you know, that's got
- 10:33Speaker 1: to be a big confidence booster for them, too.
- 10:35Speaker 2: Hey, everything happens for a reason, right? And I think
- 10:37Speaker 2: for the Sting, that road trip they had in general,
- 10:41Speaker 2: what they went through right in the first game, it
- 10:43Speaker 2: kind of went off the rails. And that's a Sting
- 10:45Speaker 2: in the past to get this win. to get the
- 10:47Speaker 2: win in Kingston, right, the following day after the Peterborough
- 10:49Speaker 2: game on the Friday night, and then to get the
- 10:51Speaker 2: win in Ottawa and get the monkey off your back,
- 10:55Speaker 2: like you mentioned, November 18th, 2007, not 2017, Colin, 2007.
- 11:02Speaker 2: I mean, like, that's a tough one, right? It's nice
- 11:07Speaker 2: to get that streak on for this thing, and it's
- 11:09Speaker 2: on to better things. A new ownership group there, new leadership.
- 11:13Speaker 2: I think this team... Like I said, I like the
- 11:16Speaker 2: direction the Stinger are going. I think it's going to
- 11:18Speaker 2: take time, but I think for this year, their short-term plan,
- 11:21Speaker 2: they should be a playoff team. They should have a
- 11:23Speaker 2: successful playoff run for that matter as well. I don't
- 11:26Speaker 2: know if they're an OHL championship contender at this point
- 11:29Speaker 2: in time, and it's four games in for the Sting,
- 11:32Speaker 2: but I truly believe that the Sarnia Sting, when you're
- 11:35Speaker 2: making the right decisions off the ice, I think you're
- 11:38Speaker 2: right there. You're not in that tier with, with Owen
- 11:42Speaker 2: Sound yet, who I believe the Owen Sound attacker, just
- 11:44Speaker 2: a little bit behind the Guelph Storm, the London Knights.
- 11:47Speaker 2: I think those are the two upper echelons with the
- 11:49Speaker 2: Saginaw Spirit just behind those two programs. But they'd be
- 11:52Speaker 2: on that like fifth tier out of the programs in
- 11:55Speaker 2: the Western Conference right now. I think the Sarnia Sting,
- 11:56Speaker 2: I think if you were to tell a Sting fan, hey,
- 11:59Speaker 2: this talker and Broncos fan on the OHL in 60 podcast,
- 12:04Speaker 2: there's a senior advisor would, hey, if I were to
- 12:07Speaker 2: tell you, hey, he has a Sting finish in fifth
- 12:10Speaker 2: place in the West. I think sting of hands would
- 12:12Speaker 2: take that. So I can't, I'm very excited to see
- 12:14Speaker 2: what this thing can do. And I think with a
- 12:15Speaker 2: win like that in Ottawa and a convincing win like
- 12:18Speaker 2: that in Ottawa, which let's be honest, the 67th interesting
- 12:22Speaker 2: start of the season for the 67th, not a lot
- 12:24Speaker 2: of games played, but it's interesting. It's not the prototypical
- 12:29Speaker 2: Dave Cameron hockey. I'll be at Dave Cameron hockey. Brandon
- 12:33Speaker 2: is one of those things where second half talk to him.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Then all of a sudden you look back around Christmas
- 12:39Speaker 2: and into the trade deadline. It's like, Oh, Here's the
- 12:42Speaker 2: 67s again. So it's a big win for the Sting.
- 12:44Speaker 2: It's a big win. It's a big confidence booster to
- 12:46Speaker 2: put a 10 spot up. A lot of goals this
- 12:48Speaker 2: weekend around the league. A lot of 10 spots in
- 12:50Speaker 2: the league. I don't know. Some team packs the bus.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Some teams stay on the bus, I guess, this weekend.
- 12:59Speaker 2: But weird, weird weekend. If you love goals, it's great
- 13:02Speaker 2: for entertainment, but the lopsided victories aren't. But great for
- 13:06Speaker 2: entertaining entertainment for the new age hockey fan to keep
- 13:10Speaker 2: the focus up in the game.
- 13:12Speaker 1: I've got more on the Sarnia sting a little bit
- 13:14Speaker 1: later in one of our other segments, but the other
- 13:16Speaker 1: captaincy that we got to get to here is Dima Jilkin.
- 13:18Speaker 1: No surprise returns as the Saginaw spirit captain, Josh Glavin,
- 13:23Speaker 1: Levi Harper, Jacob Cloutier, and Brody Peepoy are the alternates there.
- 13:28Speaker 1: And I should mention Dima Jilkin, the first OHL or
- 13:30Speaker 1: name to the CHL USA top prospects game. So that's
- 13:33Speaker 1: exciting for him as well. He was OHL player of
- 13:35Speaker 1: the week last week. So it continues to be the
- 13:38Speaker 1: season of Dima Jilkin so far.
- 13:40Speaker 2: He's going to be the first player taken out of
- 13:41Speaker 2: the OHL at the draft. Sorry, Yakko Wysik. I'm very sorry.
- 13:46Speaker 2: I know I picked it two weeks ago, and it's
- 13:48Speaker 2: going to change a lot. That's just how I roll, right?
- 13:50Speaker 2: It's an up-and-down roller coaster. There's no in-between. But this
- 13:53Speaker 2: kid reminds me so much of what Caleb Maholcher went
- 13:56Speaker 2: through last year. Same types of steps, right? Started with
- 14:00Speaker 2: a big weekend like Caleb Maholcher had.
- 14:02Speaker 3: Boom.
- 14:03Speaker 2: Here's Dima, first player named to the CHL draft. National
- 14:09Speaker 2: Development game, right? In the CHL game. One of the
- 14:13Speaker 2: first players named to that. It reminds me so much
- 14:15Speaker 2: of a kill that Holter went through last year in
- 14:17Speaker 2: Brantford with Dima Jilkin. And I just see the writing
- 14:19Speaker 2: on the wall right now. And for him to be
- 14:21Speaker 2: the captain, it's just a stepping stone, right? New coach there.
- 14:25Speaker 2: You're going to have some pulls. So to come in
- 14:27Speaker 2: there and really take the bull by the horns and say, hey,
- 14:29Speaker 2: I want to be the guy. I want to lead
- 14:30Speaker 2: this team. He's got a great support cast with captains
- 14:34Speaker 2: there in the Saginaw program. He's got a lot. You're
- 14:37Speaker 2: looking at Josh Glavin, who's been around the Saginaw Spirit
- 14:40Speaker 2: program now for a few years. You're looking at Levi Harper.
- 14:43Speaker 2: Levi Harper, when I think about the Saginaw Spirit, I
- 14:45Speaker 2: think of Levi Harper. That's such a Saginaw Spirit name.
- 14:49Speaker 2: It's such a Saginaw Spirit athlete. It's such a player
- 14:52Speaker 2: to have on your team. Obviously, Jacob Cloutier, what he's
- 14:55Speaker 2: done there, and Brody Papio as well. I'm excited to
- 14:58Speaker 2: see what they can do. I think this core, this
- 15:01Speaker 2: leadership ability for Dima to have the supporting cast around him,
- 15:05Speaker 2: to have fellow veteran players. He's a second year player
- 15:08Speaker 2: in the Ontario Hockey League. So to have these veteran
- 15:11Speaker 2: guys around him in the system, I think that's huge
- 15:13Speaker 2: for him. And I think that that's a big thing
- 15:15Speaker 2: to really mature his game. And to be the captain,
- 15:18Speaker 2: you got to bring it every night. You got to
- 15:20Speaker 2: be the model of consistency.
- 15:21Speaker 3: For your club.
- 15:22Speaker 2: So if you're going to do that and you're going
- 15:23Speaker 2: to get where they see, especially in a program that
- 15:26Speaker 2: let's be honest, for the last few years has been
- 15:27Speaker 2: a standard. for the Ontario Hockey League in Saginaw right
- 15:30Speaker 2: goes back to before the Mem Cup um for that
- 15:33Speaker 2: matter so to see him get that opportunity I mean
- 15:38Speaker 2: what a chance what a chance I mean Demon's gonna
- 15:40Speaker 2: join the program of the Michael Misa status in Saginaw
- 15:45Speaker 2: the Vincent Trocek um status in Saginaw it's not like
- 15:50Speaker 2: he's gonna be a low bar this guy's gonna be
- 15:52Speaker 2: an elite Saginaw spirit even when his spirit career is done,
- 15:56Speaker 2: this guy's going to be a guy. And I know
- 15:58Speaker 2: I talked about it last week about Dima. I'm thrilled
- 16:01Speaker 2: for him. I find when watching Saginaw spirit games this year, Brandon,
- 16:04Speaker 2: I'm on the edge of my seat saying Liza, let's
- 16:06Speaker 2: get the popcorn going here.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Like dance with somebody.
- 16:10Speaker 2: Oh yeah. And I'm dancing with Dima. It's a, it's great.
- 16:15Speaker 2: I think, I think for them to have that veteran
- 16:18Speaker 2: leadership with Dima, cause it's going to be relied upon
- 16:20Speaker 2: a ton this year, I think with the, with the
- 16:22Speaker 2: maturity level, he was a mature kid for 17 years old,
- 16:25Speaker 2: but I'm just saying that you're going to need, you're
- 16:27Speaker 2: going to need some of these Levi Harpers, the Josh Clavins,
- 16:30Speaker 2: the Jacob Cloutier's who've been in the Ontario hockey for
- 16:32Speaker 2: multiple years to be like, Hey, Hey, young fella, you know, like, yeah,
- 16:37Speaker 2: we need you here. And also those, those guys will
- 16:39Speaker 2: step up as well at right at the right time.
- 16:41Speaker 2: They know they've been around the room. They've had the
- 16:43Speaker 2: Michael Mises in the room. They've had the same per
- 16:44Speaker 2: X in the room. They know, right. Josh Glavin kind
- 16:47Speaker 2: of knows where he's going. Um, He's been in the
- 16:49Speaker 2: Ontario Hawks league now for a little bit. I love
- 16:51Speaker 2: the move. I think captaincy discussions are my favorite discussions
- 16:54Speaker 2: on the show. I think I light right up like
- 16:56Speaker 2: a Christmas tree on November 13th. I'm pumped. I think
- 17:00Speaker 2: it's the best.
- 17:01Speaker 1: Some teams value them more than others.
- 17:03Speaker 2: Yeah. Some teams just get traded. They get the call up.
- 17:06Speaker 1: You're yearly traded.
- 17:08Speaker 3: Tradition like no other.
- 17:10Speaker 1: Levi Harper is my defenseman of the year. So, you know, I'm,
- 17:12Speaker 1: I'm high on him and I've got more on a
- 17:13Speaker 1: Saginaw spirit player that I really want to mention because
- 17:16Speaker 1: I think he's having a great start to the season
- 17:18Speaker 1: a little bit later as well. But yeah, a great
- 17:20Speaker 1: job for Dima Jilkin being able to, you know, get
- 17:23Speaker 1: the captaincy. And again, like you mentioned, Colin, he's the
- 17:25Speaker 1: kind of the heartbeat of the Saginaw spirit. So great
- 17:28Speaker 1: stuff there. We do want to touch on this. I
- 17:30Speaker 1: probably should have been it off the top, but I
- 17:32Speaker 1: forgot to mention it. The Ottawa 67s are paying tribute
- 17:35Speaker 1: to Matthew Mayich and, you know, out of respect to
- 17:39Speaker 1: him and what's going on with that situation with a
- 17:41Speaker 1: helmet decal. So just a great piece of, you know,
- 17:44Speaker 1: motivation there for the Ottawa 67s, showing their support for
- 17:48Speaker 1: one of their greatest recent alumni. And, you know, again,
- 17:51Speaker 1: still thoughts and prayers are with Matthew during this difficult time.
- 17:55Speaker 2: Yeah, no, absolutely. I mean, I hope the whole league
- 17:58Speaker 2: takes initiative on this. I think other teams should step
- 18:00Speaker 2: up from division rivals to out of conference games. I
- 18:03Speaker 2: think this should be a thing that the whole league
- 18:05Speaker 2: steps into. and adopts this or not, maybe not the
- 18:08Speaker 2: same with the barber poles or, and if you want
- 18:10Speaker 2: to do that, just, it could just be an MM.
- 18:13Speaker 2: This has to be an initiative that the whole league
- 18:14Speaker 2: needs to step into. And honestly, I think on the
- 18:18Speaker 2: social media, we'll put it as well. I think that's
- 18:20Speaker 2: something that we did it for Abacar with that unfortunate
- 18:23Speaker 2: incident happened in London a few years back. And this
- 18:26Speaker 2: was a similar situation, right? And I think in the
- 18:30Speaker 2: hockey world, let's be honest. There's no closer world than
- 18:33Speaker 2: in the dressing room with, with your best friends. And
- 18:35Speaker 2: I think for the, I think for the league to
- 18:37Speaker 2: come together in the right manner, this is an automatic
- 18:41Speaker 2: great for Ottawa to start this. And I hope the
- 18:43Speaker 2: whole league follows suit. Cause this is something that should
- 18:46Speaker 2: be done for the entire league should do this as
- 18:49Speaker 2: a graduate player from the league. Every team should adopt
- 18:52Speaker 2: this matter with the MM on their helmets, wherever you
- 18:55Speaker 2: can put it on your equipment, guys want to put
- 18:57Speaker 2: it on their sticks. Maybe you trained with them in
- 18:59Speaker 2: the summer. Maybe, you know, your parties with them, your
- 19:02Speaker 2: neighbors with them. I don't know, but I think that
- 19:04Speaker 2: this should be a thing that everyone around the league
- 19:07Speaker 2: should adopt for the rest of the season. I guess
- 19:11Speaker 2: for the foreseeable future.
- 19:13Speaker 1: I don't like to give the Toronto Maple Leafs props ever,
- 19:15Speaker 1: but I got to give Matthews and the guys props
- 19:17Speaker 1: for showing their support for Matthew Mayh when they were
- 19:20Speaker 1: on their team building retreat down in Arizona. They were
- 19:24Speaker 1: wearing Matthew Mayh, you know, merch there.
- 19:27Speaker 2: So very terrible look for Arizona state. What a terrible
- 19:31Speaker 2: thing it is.
- 19:32Speaker 1: But yeah, the Toronto Maple Leafs actually get something positive
- 19:35Speaker 1: on our show for once. But speaking of NHL alum,
- 19:38Speaker 1: I should quickly mention here or OHL alum, excuse me,
- 19:41Speaker 1: 191 alumni on NHL opening night rosters, the NHL regular
- 19:45Speaker 1: season beginning tonight on the night of recording this. So
- 19:48Speaker 1: obviously still the best development league in the world, Colin,
- 19:50Speaker 1: we wave the flag proudly here. And you know, again,
- 19:54Speaker 1: like look at some of those top end players that
- 19:56Speaker 1: are going to be, you know, stars are already stars
- 19:59Speaker 1: in the national hockey league at a very young age.
- 20:01Speaker 1: The Matthew Schaefer is the world Beckett Seneca, some of
- 20:04Speaker 1: the most recent graduates there and some, obviously greats over
- 20:07Speaker 1: the years, but you know, they continue to lead the
- 20:09Speaker 1: way when it comes to development for national hockey league players.
- 20:13Speaker 3: No, absolutely.
- 20:13Speaker 2: I mean, every year it's exciting to see what player
- 20:16Speaker 2: is Matthew Schaefer this lot of last year, this year,
- 20:19Speaker 2: what players back at Seneca last year of this year,
- 20:22Speaker 2: you know, is a nickel artist in Chicago with a
- 20:25Speaker 2: big role there.
- 20:26Speaker 3: Who is it?
- 20:26Speaker 1: Right.
- 20:26Speaker 2: And I think it's so exciting to see these full-time
- 20:29Speaker 2: guys that are just played in the OHL last season
- 20:32Speaker 2: year before get that full-time experience right away. I think
- 20:35Speaker 2: that's the coolest part about covering the league. I think
- 20:37Speaker 2: it's unreal. And we talk about it all the time, Brandon,
- 20:39Speaker 2: how many times a year do I mention this where
- 20:43Speaker 2: go watch Matthew Schaefer play now, because it's not going
- 20:46Speaker 2: to be 30 bucks next year. Go watch, go watch
- 20:49Speaker 2: Dima Zilkin play now because it's not going to be
- 20:51Speaker 2: 30 bucks up the road next year in Detroit, even
- 20:53Speaker 2: though it should be free. Cause I don't know why
- 20:55Speaker 2: people are going there to watch a team lose. But anyway,
- 20:59Speaker 2: I feel like that's something that you got to get
- 21:01Speaker 2: on board with now, OHL fans, because you're not, it's
- 21:04Speaker 2: not going to be 30, 40 bucks to watch these
- 21:06Speaker 2: kids play next season. That's how good some of the
- 21:08Speaker 2: talent is in our league. And I think for this matter,
- 21:11Speaker 2: for some of these guys from last season, the track
- 21:13Speaker 2: record just speaks for itself. I mean, you look at
- 21:15Speaker 2: what Matthew Shaver did. Oh my gosh.
- 21:17Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely. And again, he's going to be, he's already
- 21:20Speaker 1: a star and he's only a second year, but he
- 21:22Speaker 1: could still be eligible for the Ontario hockey league, which
- 21:24Speaker 1: is crazy, but the world.
- 21:26Speaker 2: Juniors last year.
- 21:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:27Speaker 2: Imagine if Canada would have Celebrini, he was another one.
- 21:31Speaker 2: Celebrity's on the Olympic team. He should have been on
- 21:33Speaker 2: the World Juniors. Celebrity, Schaefer, just load it up, boys.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Colin, you had a question for me when we got
- 21:39Speaker 1: to this point.
- 21:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's a good discussion topic, considering all
- 21:42Speaker 2: this matter. What player are you most excited for that's
- 21:46Speaker 2: either a first-year in the NHL, because obviously we're both
- 21:49Speaker 2: going to say the best player is going to be
- 21:50Speaker 2: McDavid out of the OHL, and those guys are veterans,
- 21:53Speaker 2: they're proven. What player is going to have the best
- 21:56Speaker 2: season that's either a first-year NHLer or a second-year NHLer?
- 22:00Speaker 2: in your opinion?
- 22:02Speaker 1: That's a tough one. That's really tough.
- 22:04Speaker 2: Big time.
- 22:05Speaker 1: I think I'm, I'm picking Porter Martone as my Calder
- 22:07Speaker 1: trophy winner. So I expect him to have a massive season.
- 22:11Speaker 2: I like that with Porter, you know, Joel Vanderland is
- 22:13Speaker 2: going to love that one as well. When he hears this, um, honestly,
- 22:16Speaker 2: I know this is cliche. I know this is cliche,
- 22:21Speaker 2: but I'm going to say Matthew Schaefer wins the Norris
- 22:23Speaker 2: this year. Second year, second year. I mean, you look
- 22:26Speaker 2: what he did last year with the Islanders. Like, I
- 22:29Speaker 2: think the Islanders are going to be better this season.
- 22:31Speaker 2: Like you hope every team right now feels they got better,
- 22:33Speaker 2: except for the Detroit Red Wings right now. Every team
- 22:36Speaker 2: feels like they got better at this point throughout the
- 22:38Speaker 2: off season. So it's a roast of the Red Wings
- 22:41Speaker 2: this week.
- 22:42Speaker 3: It's awesome.
- 22:43Speaker 2: You could tell I'm very excited for the opening night
- 22:45Speaker 2: on Thursday night. I'm very pumped. Get smoked at a Rangers.
- 22:50Speaker 2: So Matthew Schaefer is my guy. I think he wins
- 22:52Speaker 2: the North. I think he's in Norris discussion this year.
- 22:54Speaker 2: I think he takes that step. What's step B for him, right?
- 22:57Speaker 2: What's step number two for Matthew Schaefer? It's a Norris discussion.
- 23:01Speaker 2: I look at him and I look when guys like,
- 23:04Speaker 2: you know, Brandon Rasmus Dallin came to the league. You
- 23:06Speaker 2: look at Matthew Schaefer, I mean, Rasmus Dallin was a
- 23:09Speaker 2: heck of a player. You look at some of these
- 23:11Speaker 2: young defensemen, Schaefer's right there with them. And it's only
- 23:14Speaker 2: year two, like, and it's crazy. I don't think there's
- 23:17Speaker 2: going to be a sophomore slump for Matthew Schaefer. And
- 23:19Speaker 2: for that matter, I think that he's a guy that's
- 23:21Speaker 2: in the Norris discussion and a second-year player that if
- 23:24Speaker 2: he finishes in the top five in Norris votes, that's incredible.
- 23:29Speaker 2: It's reasonable, I think. If the Islanders make the playoffs,
- 23:32Speaker 2: it's reasonable to think that Matthew Schaefer's top five in
- 23:34Speaker 2: Norris votes.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Yeah, you're going to be watching Matthew Schaefer, and I'm
- 23:38Speaker 1: going to be watching Porter Martone trying to go for
- 23:40Speaker 1: that Calder Trophy in Philly.
- 23:41Speaker 2: Especially tomorrow night.
- 23:42Speaker 1: He's got a real shot at it.
- 23:44Speaker 2: And are the Islanders against the Leafs?
- 23:47Speaker 1: And obviously we're going to be monitoring Nikita Klepov on
- 23:50Speaker 1: Anaheim's opening night roster for the fact that does he
- 23:52Speaker 1: get sent back to the Saginaw Spirit because he can't
- 23:56Speaker 1: play NCAA now that he signed his NHL entry-level contract.
- 23:59Speaker 1: So it's either he stays up with Anaheim or he's
- 24:01Speaker 1: back in the open.
- 24:02Speaker 2: And they are such an interesting team, Anaheim. Because Anaheim
- 24:06Speaker 2: feels like one of those teams, Brandon, where it's like
- 24:08Speaker 2: the salary cap, the Carlson offer sheet really got them
- 24:13Speaker 2: in trouble where I think clap off sticks for longer
- 24:16Speaker 2: than we think. I think November is when the clap
- 24:18Speaker 2: off discussion starts. Say a month from now, like Michael
- 24:21Speaker 2: Misa last year, right? Right before world juniors. What do
- 24:24Speaker 2: you do?
- 24:25Speaker 1: Or Beckett Seneca? No chance. He was coming back after
- 24:28Speaker 1: what he did with the Anaheim ducks.
- 24:29Speaker 2: So you can't send a guy like Seneca back. You
- 24:32Speaker 2: drafted him third overall. You send them back twice. It's tough.
- 24:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:37Speaker 3: I know.
- 24:38Speaker 1: I know Oshawa would have loved to be able to
- 24:39Speaker 1: get those picks. They would have got for him in
- 24:41Speaker 1: a King's ransom type of trade, but, uh, You know,
- 24:43Speaker 1: it was what it was, and he deserved to stay
- 24:45Speaker 1: up with Anaheim. So, yeah, we'll monitor that. 191 former
- 24:49Speaker 1: OHLers playing on opening night in the National Hockey League,
- 24:52Speaker 1: or opening nights, I guess you could say, because not
- 24:54Speaker 1: every team opens up for a couple of days here. But, Colm,
- 24:57Speaker 1: we've got about 15 minutes for Mike Stubbs, radio voice
- 25:00Speaker 1: of the London Knights, joins us. So let's quickly get
- 25:03Speaker 1: through some of the trades here. Let's start up the
- 25:06Speaker 1: alley of your team up the road there that you
- 25:09Speaker 1: cover with the Brantford Bulldogs. They trade Cameron Hankai to Peterborough.
- 25:13Speaker 1: for a fourth in 2028 and a sixth in 2029.
- 25:16Speaker 1: Spencer Hyman has been very active and obviously we're going
- 25:19Speaker 1: to talk about it a little bit here. Brantford's got
- 25:21Speaker 1: off to a hot start here as well. Maybe a
- 25:23Speaker 1: start that some people didn't expect with all the new players.
- 25:25Speaker 1: Didn't really know what they would be coming in, but
- 25:28Speaker 1: they move a pretty solid defenseman here in Cam Hankei
- 25:30Speaker 1: to Peterborough that definitely needs some help on the back end.
- 25:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I think for Peterborough, this is more of a
- 25:35Speaker 2: Peterborough needs thing, right? Then Brantford, I think for Peterborough,
- 25:40Speaker 2: gives Cam Pankei a chance to play regularly in the lineup,
- 25:42Speaker 2: which is huge for Cameron. You know, I think from
- 25:46Speaker 2: a Bulldogs standpoint, the Bulldogs, it's five games in, they're
- 25:49Speaker 2: 5-0 obviously, but I feel like for the Bulldogs, they're
- 25:51Speaker 2: a lot more ahead of schedule. Let's be honest, talking
- 25:54Speaker 2: with Spencer Hyman on the daily, he's confident in this
- 25:57Speaker 2: group as he should be as a general manager, right?
- 25:59Speaker 2: He knows his group better than anybody as the person
- 26:01Speaker 2: that picks the roster. I think that with him, acquiring
- 26:05Speaker 2: some of this talent that they acquired in Brantford. I
- 26:07Speaker 2: didn't think they'd be this far along this soon with
- 26:11Speaker 2: the adjustment to the Ontario hockey level. Maybe they're just
- 26:13Speaker 2: ahead of the curve here at the little bit of
- 26:16Speaker 2: the season. Maybe hopefully they're for them. They're not peaking
- 26:19Speaker 2: too early, right. As a team, maybe they're just ahead
- 26:23Speaker 2: development wise on the year right now. Right. Maybe their
- 26:26Speaker 2: camp was good, which it was good. So for Cameron
- 26:29Speaker 2: being that extra D man, right. He was scratched twice.
- 26:32Speaker 2: already in the season as a 19 year old defenseman
- 26:35Speaker 2: being scratched twice, Brandon, as we both know, you can
- 26:38Speaker 2: kind of see the writing on the wall that it
- 26:39Speaker 2: may be a change of scenery. And for the Peterborough
- 26:42Speaker 2: Pete's it's kind of laying right in their lap. Like
- 26:46Speaker 2: it's a fair talk. It's a fair OHL deal. We'll
- 26:48Speaker 2: see this deal 10 times this year come deadline time.
- 26:53Speaker 2: You know, a guy gets an opportunity to play. We
- 26:55Speaker 2: saw it all. How many times did we see it
- 26:56Speaker 2: last year? Right. With Owen sound eerie with the trade
- 26:58Speaker 2: they made, like in this move here, Hancock gets an
- 27:01Speaker 2: opportunity to play regularly. He's probably going to play big
- 27:04Speaker 2: minutes for the pizza after seeing them in person on,
- 27:07Speaker 2: on Friday evening. I, I question the pizza season. I
- 27:13Speaker 2: think that they're going to regret the Cade McGregor deal.
- 27:16Speaker 2: I think Cooper Dennis is a fantastic player, Brandon, but
- 27:19Speaker 2: I don't know. Like it's kind of weird how it's like, okay,
- 27:23Speaker 2: here we go. Take Cade McGregor. We'll take Cooper Dennis, right?
- 27:27Speaker 2: One for one. I kind of questioned their thought process
- 27:30Speaker 2: on this because it feels like we're going to go
- 27:32Speaker 2: for it, but we're not going to have Easton Rye.
- 27:35Speaker 2: We're going to lose Owen Nelson. They're two weeks into
- 27:40Speaker 2: the season, right? Like, is this kind of, you know
- 27:43Speaker 2: what I mean? Like, it feels weird for the Pete's.
- 27:46Speaker 2: It's kind of like it's early and I'm not, hey, Berube,
- 27:50Speaker 2: is it time to press the panic button? I'm not
- 27:53Speaker 2: saying that, but I'm just thinking that, like, Pete's got
- 27:57Speaker 2: to get it together here because next thing you know,
- 27:59Speaker 2: you're 10 points out in the division. And it's like
- 28:01Speaker 2: 10 points is a lot.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Like they're putting a lot on Adam, putting, putting a
- 28:06Speaker 1: lot on Adam Novotny shoulders.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Big time and a future MVP of our league. I mean,
- 28:10Speaker 2: you have hit, you have shout out to UBC. I
- 28:12Speaker 2: have Jackson Clover. And I think that like, you know, it's,
- 28:15Speaker 2: it's in, it's going to be interesting to see what
- 28:18Speaker 2: they do. I I'm, I'm fascinated. I think this deal
- 28:22Speaker 2: is great for the player, but, because you get an
- 28:23Speaker 2: opportunity and that's what you want your league to be.
- 28:25Speaker 2: Eventually you want players to go to places where they
- 28:27Speaker 2: get an opportunity, right? You've covered so many players, Brandon,
- 28:31Speaker 2: where you saw them get moved. You've saw a lot
- 28:33Speaker 2: of captains get traded. That's for sure. And you saw
- 28:36Speaker 2: them get opportunity, right? Like you saw the GB goal
- 28:39Speaker 2: in Peterborough in overtime. Like those are the opportunities that
- 28:43Speaker 2: you want to see for good people. And Cam Hancock
- 28:46Speaker 2: is a great person. He works his butt off. He's
- 28:48Speaker 2: great in the gym. And I think for him to
- 28:50Speaker 2: get the opportunity to be that one B player, defenseman
- 28:53Speaker 2: with the Pete's is huge, but for the Pete's lot
- 28:57Speaker 2: more work to do a lot more work to do.
- 28:58Speaker 2: You trade two draft picks already. If let's be honest,
- 29:03Speaker 2: if it doesn't work for them, what do you say?
- 29:06Speaker 2: What do you do? You know, like if it doesn't
- 29:09Speaker 2: work this year, what are the Pete's do? Are they
- 29:11Speaker 2: Sudbury of the last three years? Like, what do they do?
- 29:15Speaker 2: Like I, it's a hard, it's hard to explain when
- 29:19Speaker 2: you trade the former first overall pick from last season,
- 29:22Speaker 2: just a year later, it's hard to explain that to
- 29:25Speaker 2: your fan base. Yeah, yeah, exactly. It's hard to explain. Right.
- 29:31Speaker 2: So it's a lot of pressure on the players. It's
- 29:33Speaker 2: a lot of pressure on the front office, coaching staff
- 29:35Speaker 2: and all. Yeah.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Michael got some decisions to make there with Peterborough, but. again,
- 29:40Speaker 1: if everything works out for them, I still think they
- 29:42Speaker 1: could be a top four to five team in the conference,
- 29:44Speaker 1: but you know, that's a big, what if, you know
- 29:46Speaker 1: what I mean?
- 29:47Speaker 2: Like, and now with Owen Nelson going to Augusta. Yeah.
- 29:50Speaker 1: Not, not the greatest news for the Pete's there, but
- 29:53Speaker 1: we'll have to wait and see if they're going to
- 29:54Speaker 1: be making some moves or not, but you know, we'll
- 29:57Speaker 1: have to wait and see on the Peterborough, but, it's a,
- 29:59Speaker 1: it's tough because you want to see a team like
- 30:01Speaker 1: that do well, you know, they've got, they've been stable
- 30:03Speaker 1: for so long and they got a great player like
- 30:06Speaker 1: Adam Novotny back right now. That's a red Tilson candidate.
- 30:09Speaker 1: So you want to see them do well for him
- 30:11Speaker 1: and probably his last season of junior hockey. So we'll
- 30:14Speaker 1: have to wait and see on the Pete's another quick
- 30:15Speaker 1: trade here, calling the Carson Andrew to the Brantford Bulldogs
- 30:18Speaker 1: from the Sioux Greyhounds for a fourth and 2028 and
- 30:21Speaker 1: a 14th and 2029. What can you tell us quickly
- 30:24Speaker 1: about Carson Andrew?
- 30:25Speaker 2: Got to get that 14th in there. Great.
- 30:28Speaker 3: Great.
- 30:29Speaker 2: Great. I know Spencer's going to listen to this. Spencer,
- 30:32Speaker 2: you should have got a 13th. I should have gave
- 30:36Speaker 2: up a 15th. No, I'm joking. But I think for
- 30:39Speaker 2: Carson Andrew, it's a great opportunity to be a fourth
- 30:43Speaker 2: line center with the Bulldogs. He brings a little leadership
- 30:47Speaker 2: to the group, right? I'm kind of excited to see
- 30:51Speaker 2: what he can do, right? Like he's a big kid.
- 30:52Speaker 2: He scored one of the biggest goals, as Michael know,
- 30:55Speaker 2: in a few minutes. he scored in one of the
- 30:57Speaker 2: biggest goals for the Greyhounds last season in double overtime
- 31:00Speaker 2: against the London Knights in the first round of the playoffs, right?
- 31:03Speaker 2: So he's got an ability to score big goals, scored
- 31:07Speaker 2: his first game with the Bulldogs on Friday evening. I
- 31:11Speaker 2: think for Carson to get comfortable in the system with
- 31:14Speaker 2: the Babcock system, it's easy to get adjusted to. For
- 31:18Speaker 2: those Bulldog fans, listen to the dog cast, and you
- 31:20Speaker 2: heard me last week talk with Xavier Lieb, newcomer to
- 31:23Speaker 2: the Bulldogs. and talked about the adjustment to the system, Brandon.
- 31:26Speaker 2: And when you play with pace and you play free
- 31:30Speaker 2: and they tell you, if you have a good shot,
- 31:32Speaker 2: shoot the puck. If you're a playmaker, make plays. If
- 31:35Speaker 2: you're me, sometimes that's all you got to be told. Right.
- 31:37Speaker 2: And I think for, I think did not overanalyze things
- 31:41Speaker 2: is great for a player like Carson Andrew. And I
- 31:43Speaker 2: think for him to just come out there, play a
- 31:44Speaker 2: straight line game, hard on the forecheck, dictate the rush.
- 31:49Speaker 2: It might be the perfect, it might be the perfect
- 31:51Speaker 2: match for him. And for the Bulldogs, you get those
- 31:53Speaker 2: picks back with the Cam Hankei trade. So I think
- 31:57Speaker 2: that it's a match made in heaven for both sides, right?
- 32:00Speaker 2: You turn a veteran D-man into a veteran fourth line
- 32:03Speaker 2: center for your program in Brantford.
- 32:06Speaker 1: We're going to save our last trade for about 10
- 32:09Speaker 1: minutes from now when Mike Stubbs joins us to discuss
- 32:12Speaker 1: the big trade between the London Knights and the Kitchener Rangers, Colin.
- 32:15Speaker 1: You know, that was a massive one that we'll wait there,
- 32:17Speaker 1: but we're going to quickly move on here so we
- 32:19Speaker 1: can get through our second segment today. And the road
- 32:22Speaker 1: to 68-0 is down to three teams. The Brantford Bulldogs,
- 32:26Speaker 1: the London Knights, and the Sudbury Wolves. Last three teams
- 32:30Speaker 1: left standing undefeated. You know, London coming in, they've got
- 32:34Speaker 1: a lot of high hopes. Sudbury was a team that,
- 32:36Speaker 1: you know, they traded away 17 picks for one player.
- 32:39Speaker 1: You know, we were both high on them going into
- 32:41Speaker 1: the season. But surprisingly, the Brantford Bulldogs, Colin, I know,
- 32:44Speaker 1: you know, after coming off of the season they had
- 32:46Speaker 1: last year, you know, their power play is humming right now.
- 32:50Speaker 1: They've been a great team to watch so far, undefeated,
- 32:52Speaker 1: leading the Eastern Conference with so many new players on
- 32:55Speaker 1: that roster. You know, what are you thinking? Who's going
- 32:57Speaker 1: to be the last team standing here? But, I mean,
- 32:59Speaker 1: it's still a great story for these three teams.
- 33:02Speaker 2: Yeah, no, all three teams are very unique, right? Sudbury
- 33:05Speaker 2: raised question marks, in my opinion, after the Tanner Adams trade.
- 33:10Speaker 2: But you look what Tanner Adams has done. I mean,
- 33:12Speaker 2: he's a superstar in the league. There's no denying that.
- 33:14Speaker 2: But it's a lot of picks. It's a ton of picks.
- 33:17Speaker 2: And I think... Sudbury, it's one of those things where
- 33:20Speaker 2: you ride momentum. They're feeling good. There's a lot of
- 33:24Speaker 2: buzz going around Sudbury. You see it on social media,
- 33:26Speaker 2: on the Wolves' Instagram account, for instance. Like, you're seeing
- 33:29Speaker 2: a lot of buzz from ownership. And let's be honest,
- 33:34Speaker 2: it's a flashy ownership up there, right? Like, Dario and
- 33:36Speaker 2: the gang, like, in the front office there. Like, Sudbury,
- 33:39Speaker 2: you know, like, it's one of those programs, Brandon, where
- 33:42Speaker 2: we both know, like, they've been kind of desperate for this.
- 33:45Speaker 2: The last time the Sudbury Wolves had a chance, Uka
- 33:46Speaker 2: Pekalukunen was in that.
- 33:47Speaker 3: Your boy.
- 33:48Speaker 2: So I feel like it's one of those things where
- 33:52Speaker 2: you're pretty desperate. You're excited. It's kind of rejuvenating the
- 33:56Speaker 2: franchise a little bit in the city. You're building the
- 33:58Speaker 2: new arena, as Commissioner Brian Crawford said last week on here.
- 34:03Speaker 2: I'm excited to see what the Wolves can do. Obviously, London,
- 34:07Speaker 2: super contender. Probably the most sure-cut contender out of the
- 34:12Speaker 2: three teams. And let's be honest, you get Jackson Clover back.
- 34:18Speaker 2: the amount of first-round picks you got on your program.
- 34:22Speaker 2: The Knights, let's be honest, a year from now, we'll
- 34:25Speaker 2: be talking about a successful season the Knights had where
- 34:27Speaker 2: they're possibly in the OHL finals, for sure conference final,
- 34:31Speaker 2: and they're probably going to repeat again as we just
- 34:33Speaker 2: went through with the London Knights three of the last
- 34:36Speaker 2: four seasons with them. So that's where I'm at with London.
- 34:40Speaker 2: And Brantford, I think it's interesting. They got into the
- 34:42Speaker 2: gate hot, obviously. The way they play is hard to
- 34:45Speaker 2: play against. They play with pace. all four lines have
- 34:48Speaker 2: a different identity. And I think that's huge. Their penalty
- 34:51Speaker 2: kills been great. Their power play has been great to
- 34:54Speaker 2: start five games, but to see what they're doing special
- 34:56Speaker 2: teams wise, and to see some of these players who
- 35:00Speaker 2: have come in, they even Kelly's assist 16 years old.
- 35:03Speaker 2: As you've heard from Spencer Hyman's quote on him, he
- 35:05Speaker 2: tripled down on his statement saying that he's, they got
- 35:07Speaker 2: the best player at 20. Like, I think it's one
- 35:10Speaker 2: of those things to the Bulldogs where the system they play,
- 35:13Speaker 2: the energy they play with. It reminds me a lot
- 35:16Speaker 2: of what Flint did last year. kind of Flint, Barry,
- 35:19Speaker 2: last year where you just hang around, and obviously Barry
- 35:22Speaker 2: had a tough start with the 0-1-8, but you just
- 35:24Speaker 2: hang around, and then all of a sudden, the end
- 35:26Speaker 2: of the year, they're still there. Ottawa did it last year, right?
- 35:29Speaker 2: And I think that that's kind of where the Bulldogs
- 35:32Speaker 2: kind of remind me of this year with the energy.
- 35:34Speaker 2: A lot like Ottawa last year. Spencer Hyman nailed the
- 35:37Speaker 2: quote on Friday night when I was talking to him, Brandon.
- 35:41Speaker 2: The Vegas Golden Knights year one. Bunch of misfits. It's
- 35:45Speaker 2: kind of the vibe. that they're going for. And it
- 35:49Speaker 2: kind of makes sense here with the new ads, the unknowns,
- 35:53Speaker 2: the question marks. Vegas Golden Knights is the comp on
- 35:57Speaker 2: the Bulldogs right now from general manager Spencer Hyman.
- 36:00Speaker 1: Massive contrast from last season's roster, right? Super team, tons
- 36:04Speaker 1: of NHL prospects on it. Jay McKee is the head
- 36:06Speaker 1: coach who's obviously moved on to the American Hockey League
- 36:09Speaker 1: with Hamilton. You bring in Michael Babcock Jr. He brings
- 36:12Speaker 1: in you know, a different type of mentality. And like
- 36:14Speaker 1: you mentioned, a bunch of new players didn't really know
- 36:17Speaker 1: what they were going to bring. Aiden Kelly looks like
- 36:19Speaker 1: he could be both of our rookie of the year
- 36:21Speaker 1: candidate right now with the way that he's playing, you know,
- 36:23Speaker 1: just an unbelievable story so far. Again, it's only five
- 36:26Speaker 1: games in, but very promising, very, very promising for a
- 36:30Speaker 1: Brantford team that a lot of people had pegged for
- 36:32Speaker 1: a bottom three spot. And I mean, right now, again,
- 36:35Speaker 1: through two weeks, they're not going to get too crazy
- 36:37Speaker 1: about it.
- 36:38Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 36:39Speaker 1: They look really good. And like you mentioned, if Jake
- 36:40Speaker 1: O'Brien does come back at some point, We'll have to
- 36:43Speaker 1: wait and see, but Brantford off to a great start and,
- 36:46Speaker 1: you know, couldn't be, couldn't ask for a better start
- 36:47Speaker 1: for a new head coach and so many new players.
- 36:50Speaker 2: For the amount of pressure in the community of Brantford
- 36:53Speaker 2: on the team, right? Like there's a lot of big
- 36:56Speaker 2: players move. Like the fan base, love Cooper Dennis, the
- 36:58Speaker 2: fan base, love Cameron Hankei. And that's just to name
- 37:01Speaker 2: a couple, right? Like they moved off both goaltenders. Okay.
- 37:04Speaker 2: Ryerson leaners goes, okay. They're going with David Egaroff. Next
- 37:07Speaker 2: thing you know, David Egaroff's gone the same day, you know,
- 37:10Speaker 2: and fans like, it's hard for the fan base to
- 37:14Speaker 2: digest when there's so many moves happening like that. And
- 37:16Speaker 2: rightly so, but we'll get to it on players the
- 37:18Speaker 2: week with the goaltending there.
- 37:20Speaker 1: Yeah. And Sudbury, I mean, you know, they're their first
- 37:23Speaker 1: place in the central right now. To me, it's like,
- 37:25Speaker 1: it's their division to be had. If they can really
- 37:27Speaker 1: take the reins of it, we'll have to wait and see,
- 37:30Speaker 1: but good stuff in there for Sudbury.
- 37:33Speaker 2: I mean, huge fan of their dynamic duo Adams, Kowaja,
- 37:37Speaker 2: that duo, that could be lethal for a long time
- 37:40Speaker 2: to come in Sudbury.
- 37:42Speaker 1: Don't forget about JC Lemieux. We're really high on him too.
- 37:44Speaker 2: Right.
- 37:44Speaker 1: So he's, he's motivated not being drafted in the last
- 37:48Speaker 1: NHL draft.
- 37:49Speaker 2: Right.
- 37:49Speaker 1: I mean, Buffalo invited them as a free agent invite
- 37:52Speaker 1: to their prospect camp, but you know, he's a guy
- 37:54Speaker 1: that next year could be back in the draft. Right.
- 37:57Speaker 1: You know, how many guys that we see right now
- 37:59Speaker 1: that we were shocked from Neil that didn't get drafted,
- 38:01Speaker 1: you know, they're eligible next season as well. So they've
- 38:03Speaker 1: got a big, big, you know, a draft plus one year.
- 38:06Speaker 2: Right.
- 38:06Speaker 1: So, things could be really good for them if they
- 38:09Speaker 1: have a great opportunity like J.C. Lemieux has in Sudbury.
- 38:12Speaker 2: It's the old NFL line, right, when you get that
- 38:15Speaker 2: one-year deal. Prove it. It's a prove-it deal. It's a
- 38:18Speaker 2: prove-it deal.
- 38:19Speaker 1: And for London, I mean, you know, good start for them.
- 38:21Speaker 1: They've only played three games, but we're going to talk
- 38:24Speaker 1: a lot more London Knights here in a little bit.
- 38:26Speaker 1: But are you surprised that the Barry Colts and the
- 38:29Speaker 1: Brampton Steelheads are winless right now?
- 38:32Speaker 2: Yes and no. Okay, Barry... Had the slow start last year.
- 38:39Speaker 2: I don't know where Barry's offense is going to come.
- 38:41Speaker 2: That's the question I have for the Barry Colts. I
- 38:44Speaker 2: think they're going to be defensive hockey. And that's how
- 38:47Speaker 2: they're going to win games. They got to win games 2-1.
- 38:49Speaker 2: I think it's hard to win games 2-1 consistently in
- 38:53Speaker 2: the Ontario Hockey League. When you look at some of
- 38:55Speaker 2: these powerhouses at 10. And you look at Barry Colts
- 38:57Speaker 2: last year. You know, Barry Colts gave up two goals
- 39:01Speaker 2: last year. They're probably winning 6-2.
- 39:02Speaker 5: Like.
- 39:04Speaker 2: You know, like when they get flying off the rush
- 39:06Speaker 2: and the way they were on the power play, like
- 39:08Speaker 2: we kind of know where they're going. Like, you know,
- 39:10Speaker 2: the very cults this year, they don't have the case
- 39:12Speaker 2: on ages. And I think they have great young pieces,
- 39:15Speaker 2: but it's going to take time. And until then, the
- 39:18Speaker 2: goals are going to be hard to come by when
- 39:19Speaker 2: you just got to get younger players comfortable with the
- 39:22Speaker 2: OHL lifestyle right in the play.
- 39:25Speaker 3: And for Brampton, let's.
- 39:26Speaker 2: Be honest brampton has a lot of has a lot
- 39:29Speaker 2: of young talent i don't know they have that superstar
- 39:32Speaker 2: in the league but i think brampton's interesting to see
- 39:36Speaker 2: what they want to do at the deadline can you
- 39:38Speaker 2: move the pieces and get young talent when we spoke
- 39:43Speaker 2: with zach bodenstein who by the way congratulations on the
- 39:46Speaker 2: fan uh debut as well on the game and pre-game
- 39:49Speaker 2: uh No, that was pretty cool. Able to watch that.
- 39:52Speaker 2: Brandon sent me the link. That was cool to be
- 39:54Speaker 2: able to watch that a couple of weeks ago. I'm
- 39:56Speaker 2: talking about the blue Jays before they were eliminated from
- 39:59Speaker 2: playoff contention. That was cool as a Jays fan to
- 40:02Speaker 2: see it on there. Zach, so congratulations to that, but
- 40:05Speaker 2: Brampton's an interesting team. And Zach mentioned it about how
- 40:07Speaker 2: developing it, developing, right? Can you get guys to stick?
- 40:10Speaker 2: And that's one thing to me where let's see what
- 40:14Speaker 2: happens here in Brampton. It takes time. It's an early,
- 40:17Speaker 2: you know, it's early in the season, obviously it's, And
- 40:20Speaker 2: for Brampton, I think it's not to rush, not to
- 40:22Speaker 2: press the panic button. Continue to develop what you have, young,
- 40:25Speaker 2: talented players. And maybe if you can trade some veteran
- 40:29Speaker 2: players for young talent and get young players in, that
- 40:33Speaker 2: goes a long way. We saw it with the London Knights, right?
- 40:36Speaker 2: We saw it with the London Knights before. You trade
- 40:38Speaker 2: Robert Thomas out, who do you get? You get Connor McMichael.
- 40:42Speaker 2: That's a pretty good trade-off. Not bad. Yeah, so maybe
- 40:46Speaker 2: they don't have the Robert Thomas level player in Brampton,
- 40:49Speaker 2: but if you have a good player and you can
- 40:50Speaker 2: get a decent player back that's younger, two years younger,
- 40:53Speaker 2: save the more term, you got an opportunity to sell
- 40:56Speaker 2: that to your fan base as well. When you have
- 40:58Speaker 2: two years of a team, of a core, that gets exciting.
- 41:01Speaker 2: We saw the Porter Martone core. That was exciting in Brampton.
- 41:05Speaker 2: Mississauga last year, Mississauga. There was a lot of excitement there.
- 41:10Speaker 2: Can they get back to that? I think that's why
- 41:12Speaker 2: this year you got to be patient. Use those picks, possibly, too,
- 41:15Speaker 2: that you got in the Tanner Adams deal and build
- 41:19Speaker 2: up your term on players and have a possibility for
- 41:23Speaker 2: a two-year run and be patient.
- 41:24Speaker 1: So, Colin, who are you picking here to be the
- 41:26Speaker 1: last team standing?
- 41:28Speaker 2: London. I think London. The momentum. I think London. I
- 41:35Speaker 2: think all these teams, it's an incredible start, obviously, but
- 41:38Speaker 2: I think for the London Knights, it feels like they're
- 41:39Speaker 2: just getting their players back. You get Medvedev back. You
- 41:42Speaker 2: get Clover back. what's Bristevich there played Orlando or in
- 41:46Speaker 2: Ontario the other night we'll see right we'll see that'd
- 41:49Speaker 2: be a good question for Mike to see what what
- 41:53Speaker 2: his thoughts is on on uh Henry Bristevich's season right
- 41:56Speaker 2: so I'm very interested to see what happens.
- 41:58Speaker 1: There I'm gonna say Brantford just uh I know you're
- 42:03Speaker 1: usually I'm gonna get I know I know that's why
- 42:06Speaker 1: you can't so I'm gonna say it so I'm gonna
- 42:08Speaker 1: say Brantford we're gonna welcome on right now the.

- 44:27Speaker 1: Radio voice of the London Knights. That would be the
- 44:29Speaker 1: one and the only Mike Stubbs. Mike, appreciate you joining
- 44:32Speaker 1: us tonight. Colin and I are very excited to talk
- 44:34Speaker 1: to you. Got to know you a little bit here
- 44:35Speaker 1: over the years covering the Ontario Hockey League. Colin grew
- 44:38Speaker 1: up listening to you on the radio to Knights games
- 44:39Speaker 1: as well. New radio station for you this season. The
- 44:42Speaker 1: Knights off to a great start. So it seems like
- 44:44Speaker 1: things are going really well down there in London.
- 44:46Speaker 2: They are.
- 44:46Speaker 9: I mean, a 3-0 start actually is very close to
- 44:49Speaker 9: matching the London Knights' best start that we can find.
- 44:54Speaker 9: So at some point, the OHL archive games will be
- 44:57Speaker 9: up there. But the best start the London Knights have
- 45:00Speaker 9: actually had going all the way back to 1996-97 is 4-0.
- 45:03Speaker 3: There's no 10-0.
- 45:04Speaker 9: This team has won 40 games 18 times since 2000,
- 45:06Speaker 9: and it's won 50 games in a season. They've never
- 45:08Speaker 9: been better than 4-0 to.
- 45:09Speaker 2: Start a year.
- 45:22Speaker 1: Now, Mike, do you think that's because the season starts
- 45:25Speaker 1: when it starts and the London Knights usually have upwards
- 45:28Speaker 1: of five to 10 NHL prospects on their team and
- 45:32Speaker 1: teams maybe take advantage of London early on in the
- 45:34Speaker 1: season when they might have a little bit of a
- 45:35Speaker 1: watered down roster?
- 45:37Speaker 9: Yeah, Brandon, I think that has a whole lot to
- 45:40Speaker 9: do with it. But yeah, it's one of those strange
- 45:42Speaker 9: things that you look and say, this is a team
- 45:44Speaker 9: that has had success, but it doesn't tend to come
- 45:47Speaker 9: at the start of the year. But a lot of times, sure, that's,
- 45:50Speaker 9: something that the Knights and other teams deal with, and
- 45:53Speaker 9: it's a great experience for players. I mean, especially now,
- 45:57Speaker 9: you have a lot of players who will go right
- 45:59Speaker 9: to training camp from those rookie camps if they are
- 46:02Speaker 9: draft picks, so you get a real taste of what
- 46:05Speaker 9: it's like. I know there aren't as many preseason games
- 46:08Speaker 9: to play in, so that has maybe negated some of
- 46:10Speaker 9: that for players, but to jump in that way, and then, yeah,
- 46:13Speaker 9: you come on back and That's where teams start to
- 46:16Speaker 9: build and finally know who they are.
- 46:18Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 46:18Speaker 9: Can you guys figure out who's going to be where
- 46:21Speaker 9: in a couple of months? This is wide open stuff.
- 46:25Speaker 9: Brantford has been a great surprise. Guelph, of course, got
- 46:29Speaker 9: off to that, who called it a palindromic start where
- 46:34Speaker 9: they gave up 11 goals and scored one. And then
- 46:36Speaker 9: the next weekend they score 11 and give up one.
- 46:39Speaker 9: It's been fun already. We're only a couple of weeks in.
- 46:42Speaker 2: Yeah, you look at the plus minus of the Guelph
- 46:43Speaker 2: Storm after two weeks, it's been a trajectory of lows
- 46:48Speaker 2: of lows and highs of highs in Stormland and Guelph
- 46:51Speaker 2: for sure. I wanted to talk about it. We talked
- 46:53Speaker 2: about players, Mike, and Henry Brustavich, obviously with Ontario right now.
- 46:59Speaker 2: Is he a guy that you kind of expect to
- 47:00Speaker 2: be with the Knights and to play a huge leadership
- 47:03Speaker 2: role back with the Knights? The amount of first round
- 47:04Speaker 2: picks they have right now on the roster and obviously
- 47:06Speaker 2: with Jackson coming back with the Knights as well, that's
- 47:09Speaker 2: expected to be a big piece. My MVP pick for
- 47:11Speaker 2: this season, in the Ontario Hockey League. Is he a
- 47:13Speaker 2: guy that when he comes back, potentially, I mean, the
- 47:18Speaker 2: sky seems to be the limit for Henry.
- 47:21Speaker 9: Colin, I think if this was 2023, that's the conversation
- 47:25Speaker 9: we're having. That's exactly the conversation that we're having. But
- 47:28Speaker 9: now we've got a different landscape. And I think it
- 47:33Speaker 9: would be a surprise if Henry Bristevich came back. I
- 47:38Speaker 9: think he was able to show himself in the American
- 47:40Speaker 9: Hockey League with Ontario right at the end of their
- 47:44Speaker 9: regular season, then certainly in their playoffs. And now we
- 47:47Speaker 9: get that new rule tested where if you are a
- 47:50Speaker 9: first round pick when you're 19 years of age, you
- 47:53Speaker 9: have that opportunity. And the thing about Henry is you
- 47:56Speaker 9: worry about players maturity because it's a lot different in
- 47:59Speaker 9: junior hockey. It's like being in high school. It's like
- 48:02Speaker 9: being in college. You always got your friends around. And
- 48:05Speaker 9: then you get up into the pros and you've got friends,
- 48:09Speaker 9: but they have to go to the bank or they
- 48:11Speaker 9: have to pick up the kids at daycare and things
- 48:13Speaker 9: get different very quickly. Henry's a very mature guy. And
- 48:17Speaker 9: so this is something that would not affect him and
- 48:20Speaker 9: would not impact him. And I don't think it would
- 48:22Speaker 9: be a concern by his parent club, the LA Kings.
- 48:26Speaker 9: So I think Henry Bristevich gets to stay playing pro
- 48:30Speaker 9: hockey this year.
- 48:31Speaker 2: And right on. And you saw the transition that his
- 48:33Speaker 2: brother made as well. And, I mean, the family, right?
- 48:37Speaker 2: Dynamic and then very mature. The goaltending situation for the Knights, Mike.
- 48:41Speaker 2: I mean, obviously, saw what Sebastian brought to the table
- 48:45Speaker 2: last year in London. I mean, great surprise in a
- 48:48Speaker 2: way for Ontario Hockey League wide. I don't know if
- 48:51Speaker 2: it felt like, okay, Alexi's going to be the guy.
- 48:54Speaker 2: He had the big mem cup run behind Austin Elliott. Like,
- 48:57Speaker 2: this is his year. It reminded me so much kind
- 49:01Speaker 2: of of the similar situation of when Brett Rochute came
- 49:03Speaker 2: up with the Knights a few seasons back where you
- 49:06Speaker 2: just see them get the opportunity and we talked before
- 49:08Speaker 2: off air all the time when the Bulldogs and Knights
- 49:11Speaker 2: play like I always look forward to those conversations obviously
- 49:14Speaker 2: and to see those conversations about the goaltending it what
- 49:19Speaker 2: is the situation this year like is it a clear
- 49:21Speaker 2: cut because obviously we talked before in the hunters eight
- 49:25Speaker 2: training camp comes the best goaltender plays and that's what
- 49:28Speaker 2: brett bro shoot it is this kind of a similar.
- 49:30Speaker 9: Situation It's really interesting that you look at it that way, Colin,
- 49:34Speaker 9: because I think you're bang on. That is the opportunity
- 49:37Speaker 9: that you have. And Brett Brochu came in and would
- 49:40Speaker 9: not have been the number one. In fact, that year
- 49:42Speaker 9: he came in and he was in a battle to
- 49:45Speaker 9: be a backup, just to make the roster. Right now
- 49:49Speaker 9: the Knights do have three goaltenders. So Alexey Medvedev, I believe,
- 49:53Speaker 9: is the guy. This is his year. And he's 19
- 49:56Speaker 9: years of age. He's a second-round pick of the Vancouver Canucks.
- 49:59Speaker 9: He did dress for some preseason games. He didn't play
- 50:02Speaker 9: in those games, but that's what the Canucks were doing
- 50:04Speaker 9: and showing him, all right, here's the rhythm of an
- 50:06Speaker 9: NHL day. And so that was good for him. He's
- 50:10Speaker 9: come back and I mean, he's always been in great shape.
- 50:14Speaker 3: He's got these.
- 50:14Speaker 9: Long legs and long arms and he has a lot
- 50:20Speaker 9: of flexibility to him. He's going to be hard to
- 50:22Speaker 9: score on for that reason. And then you look at
- 50:25Speaker 9: maybe what has happened in the number two spot. And
- 50:29Speaker 9: you've got Brian Cook who played last year for the
- 50:32Speaker 9: Minot Minotauros. And if you're looking for Minot, you've got
- 50:36Speaker 9: to go to North Dakota. And then I want you
- 50:39Speaker 9: to drive away from everything. If you see something, turn,
- 50:43Speaker 9: get away from that thing, drive away from it so
- 50:47Speaker 9: that you are not near much and you'll find Minot,
- 50:49Speaker 9: North Dakota. And he played for the Minot Minotauros. And
- 50:53Speaker 9: it's only fitting that a team that is in Minot,
- 50:57Speaker 9: North Dakota, that's hard to get to, would have a
- 50:59Speaker 9: name that is just hard to say. But that was
- 51:03Speaker 9: a great experience for Brian Cook. And he's come in
- 51:06Speaker 9: and he's been dynamite in games. The Knights were outshot
- 51:09Speaker 9: 12-2 by Windsor in their second game of the season.
- 51:13Speaker 9: The Spitfires came out flying. And he stopped all 12 shots.
- 51:17Speaker 9: And he gave his team a chance to win. And
- 51:19Speaker 9: then he did the exact same thing against Owen Sound.
- 51:22Speaker 9: And then you've got Charlie Weiss. And Charlie Weiss is
- 51:25Speaker 9: out of the 2025 OHL priority selection. He's from Thunder
- 51:29Speaker 9: Bay and just has that unflappable goalie attitude. And that's
- 51:34Speaker 9: what you want to see. And whether or not we
- 51:38Speaker 9: see one of these guys outright win the job, do
- 51:42Speaker 9: both of them get a little bit of a look still,
- 51:45Speaker 9: it'll kind of be up to the coaching staff that way.
- 51:49Speaker 9: Charlie Weiss is somebody who's still fairly young, and if
- 51:52Speaker 9: he goes and stops pucks somewhere else, maybe that helps
- 51:56Speaker 9: him in his development. But he's been outstanding in camp.
- 51:59Speaker 9: So it's another one. I know a lot of people
- 52:02Speaker 9: in the league don't want to hear this. The Knights
- 52:04Speaker 9: have another problem that everybody would love to have, where
- 52:08Speaker 9: you've got three really good goaltenders on your roster.
- 52:11Speaker 2: You can never have enough goaltending.
- 52:13Speaker 3: Absolutely not. Nope.
- 52:16Speaker 1: Uh, Mike Stubbs, again, the longtime radio voice of the
- 52:18Speaker 1: London Knights now on classic rock 98.1 is with us
- 52:21Speaker 1: on the OHL and 60 podcast. Mike, we waited to
- 52:23Speaker 1: talk about the trade. We usually go over all the trades, uh,
- 52:26Speaker 1: in the, uh, the headlines to start off the show,
- 52:28Speaker 1: but this was a pretty massive one, uh, between two rivals,
- 52:31Speaker 1: the London Knights and the Kitchener Rangers, uh, swapping, uh,
- 52:35Speaker 1: players for prospects. We saw the big Sam O'Reilly trade
- 52:38Speaker 1: last season, uh, with Jared Woolley as well. Um, what
- 52:41Speaker 1: can you tell us about, uh, about this trade that
- 52:43Speaker 1: was made earlier in the week between London and Kitchener.
- 52:47Speaker 9: Well, I loved Mike Farwell's reaction to it, number one,
- 52:50Speaker 9: which was the last time the Knights and the Rangers
- 52:53Speaker 9: made a trade, it worked out pretty well. And you
- 52:55Speaker 9: mentioned Sam O'Reilly and Jared Woolley. These are two teams
- 52:58Speaker 9: that don't trade a lot. These are two teams that
- 53:01Speaker 9: don't get together on deals a lot. This just stemmed
- 53:04Speaker 9: from the fact that the London Knights had almost taken
- 53:07Speaker 9: a flyer on Juho Pieper-Reinen who ended up being a
- 53:11Speaker 9: first-round pick of the Vegas Golden Knights. Just, hey, in
- 53:15Speaker 9: order to keep him on a protected list, he would
- 53:18Speaker 9: have to be an NHL draft pick. Let's just use
- 53:22Speaker 9: the pick. It was kind of like that. And not
- 53:24Speaker 9: really thinking that he had a chance of coming and
- 53:28Speaker 9: playing in the Ontario Hockey League. And then Vegas took
- 53:32Speaker 9: a long look at him. He was one of their
- 53:33Speaker 9: final defensemen on the roster. They had or down to
- 53:37Speaker 9: 10 defensemen. He was one of them. He played 20
- 53:39Speaker 9: minutes in a preseason game, but they decided that the
- 53:42Speaker 9: place that they wanted to see him develop, at least
- 53:44Speaker 9: for this next year, was the Ontario Hockey League, which
- 53:47Speaker 9: is great for the Ontario Hockey League. He comes to London,
- 53:51Speaker 9: and that leaves the Knights with a predicament where you
- 53:55Speaker 9: have to make sure that you have three import players,
- 53:59Speaker 9: and you don't want to keep four guys on your
- 54:02Speaker 9: roster if you really don't have to, and rotate them around.
- 54:05Speaker 3: So it became.
- 54:07Speaker 9: a job of Mark Hunter to go and find a
- 54:10Speaker 9: deal that would work out. And this one ended up
- 54:12Speaker 9: working out for both sides. And it allows Lucas Santella
- 54:15Speaker 9: to go to Kitchener. This is his draft year. Chances
- 54:19Speaker 9: are he's going to be a first-round pick in the
- 54:21Speaker 9: National Hockey League. We're going to be talking about him
- 54:23Speaker 9: a lot. If you want to look for Lucas Santella,
- 54:26Speaker 9: he's going to be a fun player to watch because
- 54:28Speaker 9: he's one of those guys that you want to isolate on.
- 54:30Speaker 9: If you're a fan of the game, isolate on him.
- 54:33Speaker 9: Just watch him, especially when the puck's in the offensive zone.
- 54:37Speaker 9: So keep your eyes away from the puck. Watch him
- 54:40Speaker 9: because he will gravitate at some point into the slot
- 54:43Speaker 9: and he's very good or he'll gravitate net front. And
- 54:47Speaker 9: his ability to tip pucks is wild where someone will
- 54:51Speaker 9: take a shot and it's almost like he looks at it.
- 54:54Speaker 9: It's like a wide receiver who's able to catch the
- 54:56Speaker 9: ball just by seeing it at the last second. You know,
- 55:00Speaker 9: late hands in football, wide receivers who do well put
- 55:03Speaker 9: out those late hands and you don't show anything.
- 55:06Speaker 3: He does the same thing tipping pucks.
- 55:08Speaker 9: And so he's somebody that has great hands around the net,
- 55:12Speaker 9: is going to be very useful for the Kitchener Rangers
- 55:15Speaker 9: this year.
- 55:16Speaker 3: But again, it.
- 55:17Speaker 9: Leads to that development. You have an opportunity for a
- 55:20Speaker 9: player to go and play somewhere. Let's find him a
- 55:22Speaker 9: place to play where it's going to work for him.
- 55:24Speaker 9: And I love deals that work like that. And in
- 55:27Speaker 9: all of this, Juho Piparanen was not in the trade, but.
- 55:32Speaker 3: In the situation.
- 55:34Speaker 9: So you have him coming to London and then you
- 55:37Speaker 9: wind up having Lucas Santella finding a place to play
- 55:39Speaker 9: as well.
- 55:40Speaker 1: To have two first round NHL prospects as your import slots,
- 55:43Speaker 1: not a bad problem to have. And as you mentioned, Santella,
- 55:46Speaker 1: most likely going to be a first round pick in
- 55:47Speaker 1: the 2027 NHL draft call. And I know you had
- 55:50Speaker 1: a question with, for Mike about this trade.
- 55:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I know.
- 55:53Speaker 2: It's an interesting trade to see the Rangers and Knights.
- 55:55Speaker 2: And you mentioned the wide receivers. How about the Western Mustangs?
- 55:59Speaker 2: With the big homecoming win on Saturday. We got Brandon
- 56:02Speaker 2: Mike on the good side of London when it comes
- 56:04Speaker 2: to you sports level. So there we go, BC.
- 56:08Speaker 1: I'm purple rain through and through.
- 56:13Speaker 2: Maxim Sofolovsky. I mean, the edgy plays with the Flyers.
- 56:18Speaker 2: Take the opportunity to make the pick in the first
- 56:20Speaker 2: round this year. The edgy plays with it's gravitating to
- 56:24Speaker 2: watch and the Knights always have a player. has that
- 56:27Speaker 2: edge to them that you do not want to play
- 56:29Speaker 2: against because you know when you play against them you're
- 56:31Speaker 2: in for a long night and it's physical it's skill
- 56:35Speaker 2: set and on that size for that matter when you
- 56:38Speaker 2: look at the Knights it looks like a basketball team
- 56:41Speaker 2: sometimes there's some of these forwards that they have especially
- 56:43Speaker 2: on the back end for defense but Maxime is so
- 56:45Speaker 2: intriguing to me and to see the Flyers take that
- 56:47Speaker 2: pick and see what Danny Breer and staff saw in
- 56:50Speaker 2: Maxime what do you kind of see in his game
- 56:52Speaker 2: and I mean the edge he's played with with the
- 56:55Speaker 2: Knights and the last year and now into this year
- 56:57Speaker 2: and just be at the one game. But it feels
- 56:59Speaker 2: like the year for him is the sky's the limit.
- 57:03Speaker 9: I think there's a how to, to be written with
- 57:06Speaker 9: Max Sokolovsky because he had come over from Kazakhstan. He
- 57:10Speaker 9: was playing in a league in the United States and
- 57:12Speaker 9: he scored a lot of points and he got to London.
- 57:16Speaker 9: And if you want to use the word raw, that's
- 57:18Speaker 9: a good word to use. And that's not anything that's
- 57:22Speaker 9: a slight to Maxim because he, he was an outstanding
- 57:26Speaker 9: skater to begin with for a guy who is six, eight,
- 57:29Speaker 9: but just getting up to speed for this game. And
- 57:32Speaker 9: the how to part comes in the fact that Dale
- 57:35Speaker 9: Hunter and his coaching staff will not want a player
- 57:38Speaker 9: to be in a position that they're not ready for.
- 57:41Speaker 9: And so Max didn't play an awful lot at the
- 57:43Speaker 9: beginning of last year. And then as the year went on,
- 57:47Speaker 9: he would play a little bit more, but was working
- 57:50Speaker 9: hard in practice and they're, are movement specialists. And I
- 57:55Speaker 9: know one of them who has looked at Max and
- 57:58Speaker 9: has said, I can't believe a body that big moves
- 58:03Speaker 9: that well. Or I can't believe a body that big
- 58:07Speaker 9: is that flexible. Because Max has that element to him.
- 58:11Speaker 9: He's incredibly athletic. And the big hits are the things
- 58:16Speaker 9: everybody is going to notice. He makes sure that he
- 58:20Speaker 9: does everything right. Max is not a guy who's going
- 58:23Speaker 9: to talk on the ice. You're not going to see him,
- 58:25Speaker 9: you know, jawing after the whistler. He hardly says a
- 58:29Speaker 9: word on the ice. He's there to go out and
- 58:32Speaker 9: do his job. And you watch, there was a hit
- 58:35Speaker 9: that he threw on Lucien Burnett of Owen Sound. I
- 58:39Speaker 9: know that's been making the rounds on social media because
- 58:42Speaker 9: Burnett's stick kind of helicopters away.
- 58:44Speaker 3: It was a big hit.
- 58:46Speaker 9: But watch that hit again and watch Max closely. Because
- 58:51Speaker 9: he is very careful to tuck his elbow in. He's
- 58:55Speaker 9: not looking to injure a player. He's looking to lay
- 59:00Speaker 9: a hit. That's what he's looking to. And he's looking
- 59:02Speaker 9: to do it in the proper way.
- 59:04Speaker 3: And that's Max.
- 59:05Speaker 9: Everything he does, he wants to do it the proper way.
- 59:10Speaker 9: And that's working out well for him.
- 59:12Speaker 3: You said it.
- 59:12Speaker 9: I mean, he is a first-round pick. We talked about
- 59:15Speaker 9: Pippa Reinen. And he is a first-round pick. The Knights'
- 59:18Speaker 9: other important pick is Marcus Nordmark, who was a first-round pick.
- 59:21Speaker 9: They were actually taken 27th, 28th, and 29th in the
- 59:25Speaker 9: NHL draft. Numerologists are going to love this. But Max
- 59:31Speaker 9: is somebody that, at his size, moves a lot differently.
- 59:34Speaker 9: One of those things where you look in basketball and
- 59:37Speaker 9: you get a guy who handles the ball so well
- 59:39Speaker 9: and he's 6'8. And you think, how do you handle
- 59:42Speaker 9: the ball so well? Well, for a while, he was
- 59:44Speaker 9: 5'10 and a point guard. So it's almost like that
- 59:47Speaker 9: with Max, where he's just this big body, but he
- 59:51Speaker 9: moves well enough to be a lot smaller than 6'8.
- 59:53Speaker 9: I think they have him at 238 now. Is that
- 59:56Speaker 9: what we're looking at? He was 240 for a little while.
- 59:59Speaker 9: His weight has come down.
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: 238, it says.
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: 238.
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: OHL website.
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: There we go. Every year it goes down two pounds.
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: That's how it works.
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: Can the rest of us do that too?
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: I know. I can't read off our media.
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: You get our names on the OHL website. Can we
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: lose two pounds?
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: Yeah. That's great. And it's funny you mentioned the decor, Mike.
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: We don't even get into it. Jonathan Casperitis from North Bay.
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: I mean, six points in the first three games with
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: the Knights and veteran defenseman in the league. And I mean,
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: he's hard to play against former first round pick in
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: the U18 draft of Sarnia. Like it feels like this
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: D court and the Knights have always done this. And I,
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: growing up, listen to your calls, Mike, the Knights, it's
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: always from, if it's Michael Hauser, who by the way,
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: a great career, I'm going to listen to your podcast tomorrow, Mike,
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: with Michael on his career. And yeah, you know, you
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: see those guys with the goal, with the defense, Jared Tenorti,
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: Scott Harrington to the world, the old, to only Matt
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: and Nikita Zdorov, Evan Bouchard years down with Tyler Parsons. Like,
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: and it feels like Alexi Medvedev, Brian Cook, this decor,
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: it feels like the Knights and Mark Hunter and staff,
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: a decor is kind of set. Like, I think this
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: team has every opportunity to be an elite team in
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: the league, but it's, do you think this decor, what,
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: what is the peak for this decor and what, like,
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: what do you expect out of them? I mean, it
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: feels like you got four guys can log 30 minutes
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: a night.
- 1:01:24Speaker 3: Yeah, you really do.
- 1:01:25Speaker 9: And that's, that's a great way to stay to call
- 1:01:28Speaker 9: him because you have guys who are big, you have
- 1:01:32Speaker 9: guys who aren't big, but move pucks well. And that's
- 1:01:36Speaker 9: an element that is going to be very interesting. The
- 1:01:38Speaker 9: big starts at six foot three people running, um, You
- 1:01:43Speaker 9: have Cooper McCaslin.
- 1:01:44Speaker 3: He's 6'3.
- 1:01:45Speaker 9: Then you've got Jacob Vandiven, who I think the OHL
- 1:01:48Speaker 9: website now has up to 6'7.
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: And he's all of that.
- 1:01:52Speaker 9: You can stand beside him and realize that's a different
- 1:01:55Speaker 9: place up there. He's from Kamoka, just outside London, was
- 1:01:58Speaker 9: a draft pick of Owen Sound, was actually a forward
- 1:02:01Speaker 9: up until last year. He was playing with the Kamoka
- 1:02:03Speaker 9: Kings and ended up being switched back to D and
- 1:02:06Speaker 9: then became a fifth-round pick of the Boston Bruins. So
- 1:02:09Speaker 9: that worked out very well. And he's somebody, again, who
- 1:02:12Speaker 9: has some offense to his game, but really goes into
- 1:02:16Speaker 9: a role where it's about playing defense first. And then
- 1:02:20Speaker 9: we've talked about Max Sokolovsky. And then you cited Jonathan
- 1:02:23Speaker 9: Capogiridis and also Caleb Mitchell. They're great puck movers. And
- 1:02:29Speaker 9: then the Knights also have Cody Wood. And Cody Wood
- 1:02:33Speaker 9: was an eighth round pick of theirs. But he's somebody
- 1:02:36Speaker 9: that you don't notice on the ice. It's one of
- 1:02:39Speaker 9: those classic defensemen. He's going to have his best game
- 1:02:42Speaker 9: when you don't notice him and you won't notice him.
- 1:02:45Speaker 9: But when you start to look at who iced the
- 1:02:48Speaker 9: puck on that penalty kill or who blocked that pass
- 1:02:51Speaker 9: that was coming through the seam, Cody Wood did. And
- 1:02:55Speaker 9: Cody Wood did. And all of those other things that
- 1:02:58Speaker 9: when you stop to notice, yeah, Cody Wood did that too.
- 1:03:01Speaker 9: So you can never have enough goalies. We always know
- 1:03:04Speaker 9: you can never have enough defensemen. Frankie Corrado always tells
- 1:03:07Speaker 9: the story. in Vancouver he gets called into a meeting
- 1:03:11Speaker 9: and there's eight defensemen and they're looking around the room
- 1:03:13Speaker 9: and one of the coaches said don't worry we'll need
- 1:03:16Speaker 9: eight defensemen we always do and sure enough you did
- 1:03:20Speaker 9: so yeah the Knights can add in Ryan Beaulieu to
- 1:03:23Speaker 9: make the eighth he was their first round pick in
- 1:03:25Speaker 9: 2026 had a fantastic camp you're always going to need
- 1:03:29Speaker 9: eight defensemen.
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: Absolutely it's.
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: Colin, I was just going to bring up something to
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: do with the forwards here. Evan Van Gorp, Mike, he's
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: been with the Knights for a few seasons now, obviously
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: leads the team in points this season so far. You know,
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: what can you tell us about the development of Van Gorp?
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: You know, he came up with the Knights in 23, 24,
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: you know, played 44 games, 12 points. And, you know,
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: now trying to take that big step in that and
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: fill the shoes of some great players that have obviously
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: graduated on, you know, what can you tell us about
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: him and, maybe what the impact of a Carson Harmer
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: has had since he's come over from Saginaw and that
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: big trade involving Brady Waslin.
- 1:04:06Speaker 9: Let's start with Evan and let's go way, way back
- 1:04:08Speaker 9: because Evan and his hockey story will give a little
- 1:04:13Speaker 9: piece of advice for life. Always listen to mothers. Always
- 1:04:18Speaker 9: listen to mothers. Evan Van Gorp was at training camp
- 1:04:22Speaker 9: with the Sarnia Sting. He was a free agent and
- 1:04:25Speaker 9: he had been playing for the Elgin Middlesex Canucks. And
- 1:04:27Speaker 9: he didn't make the sting, but they said, hey, we
- 1:04:29Speaker 9: really like what you saw. We're going to keep tabs
- 1:04:31Speaker 9: on you, but go ahead, go back and play in
- 1:04:34Speaker 9: the GOHL and we'll be in touch kind of thing.
- 1:04:38Speaker 9: And he'd also been given an invite to the London
- 1:04:40Speaker 9: Knights training camp. And he's on his way back from Sarnia.
- 1:04:43Speaker 9: He's a little dejected and he gets a text. And
- 1:04:48Speaker 9: it's from the Knights basically asking for confirmation that he
- 1:04:51Speaker 9: was going to come to training camp. And he looked
- 1:04:53Speaker 9: down and his mother was driving. And she said, what's that?
- 1:04:57Speaker 9: He said, it's the London Knights. They're wondering if I'm
- 1:04:59Speaker 9: coming to camp. And she says, well, are you? And
- 1:05:02Speaker 9: he says, no, I don't think so. Like, I have
- 1:05:06Speaker 9: already tried out. I'm not OHL material, obviously. And she
- 1:05:11Speaker 9: looked at him and she said, you know what? Easton
- 1:05:14Speaker 9: Cowan's on that team. He's going to be a future
- 1:05:16Speaker 9: Toronto Maple Leaf. This will be a chance for you
- 1:05:18Speaker 9: to skate with a future Toronto Maple Leaf. You've got
- 1:05:20Speaker 9: to go to that camp.
- 1:05:21Speaker 3: What a chance. What an opportunity. You'll kick yourself if
- 1:05:24Speaker 3: you don't go. So he went.
- 1:05:26Speaker 9: He scored the overtime winner in the Knights' annual green
- 1:05:28Speaker 9: and gold game. Had a great preseason. Then ended up
- 1:05:32Speaker 9: winning two OHL championships and a Memorial Cup. And right
- 1:05:36Speaker 9: now he's off to a start where he's got seven
- 1:05:38Speaker 9: points in three games. This has been quite the hockey story.
- 1:05:42Speaker 9: Always listen to mothers. But this has been quite the
- 1:05:44Speaker 9: hockey story. And Evan's got fantastic speed. He can finish.
- 1:05:49Speaker 9: He can do so many things well. But he catches
- 1:05:51Speaker 9: people off guard because he doesn't just have speed. He's
- 1:05:55Speaker 9: also got one-step quickness. And sometimes you have one or
- 1:05:58Speaker 9: the other. He's got both. So, for instance, he scored
- 1:06:02Speaker 9: a goal against Owen Sound where the puck was pushed
- 1:06:04Speaker 9: into center ice, I think by Jonathan Cappaduritas, if I
- 1:06:06Speaker 9: remember right. And he went up after it, and he
- 1:06:10Speaker 9: just had the quickness to get to it. He was
- 1:06:12Speaker 9: first one to it. And then by the time he
- 1:06:13Speaker 9: got it, everybody else was flat-footed, and he flew into
- 1:06:16Speaker 9: the Owen Sound zone. and scored what was a really
- 1:06:19Speaker 9: important goal because Owen Sound had the lead in the game,
- 1:06:22Speaker 9: and he took that away. So Evan Van Gorp is tremendous.
- 1:06:25Speaker 9: He seems to be working well on the ice with
- 1:06:28Speaker 9: just about anybody he plays with. We'll see how much
- 1:06:31Speaker 9: he gets teamed with Carson Harmer. The Knights, they will
- 1:06:34Speaker 9: identify things that they need in building teams, and I
- 1:06:38Speaker 9: really think that helped out both Saginaw and London because
- 1:06:42Speaker 9: if you look for that straight-up trade, Brady Wasselin and
- 1:06:45Speaker 9: Carson Harmer, You always want, we've talked about development a
- 1:06:48Speaker 9: few times, you want trades to work out. Everybody who
- 1:06:51Speaker 9: cheers for a team wants to say, my team got
- 1:06:54Speaker 9: the best of that trade. We're in a developmental situation.
- 1:06:57Speaker 9: You want what's best for the player. And so in
- 1:07:00Speaker 9: the case of Carson Harmer coming to London, the Knights
- 1:07:04Speaker 9: put a lot of emphasis on face-offs. Carson Harmer's so
- 1:07:07Speaker 9: good on face-offs. He gets a chance to come a
- 1:07:10Speaker 9: little closer to home. He's from Mitchell, which isn't too
- 1:07:13Speaker 9: far outside London. So when he scored his first goal
- 1:07:15Speaker 9: in a London Knights uniform, you bet there was an
- 1:07:17Speaker 9: extra bit of a cheer because he had a lot
- 1:07:19Speaker 9: of friends and family there. And we've seen what Brady
- 1:07:22Speaker 9: Wasslin is already doing in Saginaw, where he is off
- 1:07:25Speaker 9: to a flying start.
- 1:07:26Speaker 3: And that's what you want to see. You want to see.
- 1:07:29Speaker 9: These ingredients that each team needed work out. And we
- 1:07:33Speaker 9: can go back to last year. The Knights made a
- 1:07:35Speaker 9: one-for-one trade with the Sarnia Sting. And they picked up
- 1:07:39Speaker 9: Ryan Brown and things hadn't been going the way Ryan
- 1:07:42Speaker 9: Brown wanted them to. And Logan Howry went the other
- 1:07:44Speaker 9: way to Sarnia. And even though there were injury issues
- 1:07:48Speaker 9: for Logan as the year wore on last year, I
- 1:07:51Speaker 9: really think this is going to be a great year
- 1:07:53Speaker 9: for Logan Howry, where it was just, all right, whatever
- 1:07:56Speaker 9: isn't happening now, let's give you a chance somewhere else.
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: And boom, things take off. And so we've seen that.
- 1:08:03Speaker 9: And Carson Harmer just coming over in that deal is
- 1:08:07Speaker 9: somebody who adds that veteran presence, who adds the ability
- 1:08:11Speaker 9: defensively on face-offs. But maybe one of the most underappreciated
- 1:08:16Speaker 9: things about Carson Harmer is when he gets a puck
- 1:08:19Speaker 9: near the net, he puts it through goalies. So he'll
- 1:08:23Speaker 9: pay attention and he'll take care of all those little details.
- 1:08:26Speaker 9: But when he gets a chance to score, he's going
- 1:08:28Speaker 9: to score. And that's a rare opportunity and a rare
- 1:08:32Speaker 9: character trait to have. So Carson Harmer has been welcomed
- 1:08:37Speaker 9: with open arms for all of those reasons.
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: Mike, we talked about the one person, well, not just
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: the one person, but one person and staff who find
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: these players. And I always get a kick in yourself
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: when you talk about it on your shows and Ryan
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: Payette with his articles on it as well. Mark Hunter
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: and staff, Rob Simpson, the scouting staff. It feels... like
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: every time you're at a U16 game, Oh, Mark Hunter's here.
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: It's an exhibition game and the London Knights aren't even playing,
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: but Mark Hunter's here. Sometimes Dale Hunter's here, but Mark Hunter,
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: the effort to scouting, it feels like, this is a
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: sweet spot. And as a model franchise for the Ontario Hawks,
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: I think the one of nights are the job, Mark Hunter,
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: Rob Simpson and staff have done in the scouting department.
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: And you mentioned about with a cook, the goaltender about
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: going out to North Dakota and drive Mark Hunter was
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: probably there. And I feel like, and I feel like
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: Mark's example, he sets your other general manager on the league,
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: the bar, he sets the model of consistency in the
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: league that we've saw for a long time as a benchmark. What,
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: I mean, I always get a kick out of it,
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: but Mark Hunter, the job that they do in the scouting,
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: it's just what they do. It's what they were born
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: to do.
- 1:09:57Speaker 3: Hard work.
- 1:09:58Speaker 9: It really comes back to that, and it comes back
- 1:10:01Speaker 9: to Mark and Dale's father, Dick, and all of the
- 1:10:04Speaker 9: values and all of the teachings that he provided them
- 1:10:10Speaker 9: growing up. It's about hard work, and whatever needs to
- 1:10:14Speaker 9: be done, the closest person to.
- 1:10:16Speaker 3: It does it.
- 1:10:17Speaker 9: Without question, without thinking. It's just, that's the way the
- 1:10:20Speaker 9: organization works. And Mark is somebody who, and Dale is
- 1:10:26Speaker 9: this way as well. I mean, they both have adopted,
- 1:10:29Speaker 9: you know, different parts of the hockey operations, but they
- 1:10:33Speaker 9: both work equally as hard and their staffs do as well.
- 1:10:38Speaker 9: Mark does go to all of those places. There's a
- 1:10:41Speaker 9: story that a scout told one time he was out somewhere,
- 1:10:44Speaker 9: who knows, somewhere that wasn't close. in a month where
- 1:10:48Speaker 9: it wasn't bright and wasn't warm. And he looks across
- 1:10:53Speaker 9: the rink and he thinks there's no way because it
- 1:10:56Speaker 9: was nowhere near London, Ontario. There's no way. And he
- 1:11:00Speaker 9: walks around the rink and sure enough, it's Mark. And
- 1:11:02Speaker 9: he said, yeah, I heard there was a guy and
- 1:11:03Speaker 9: I decided to come and see him. But it's one
- 1:11:06Speaker 9: thing to have all that hard work. It's another thing
- 1:11:09Speaker 9: to have the eye that Mark Hunter does. And you
- 1:11:11Speaker 9: mentioned earlier, Jonathan Capogiritis from North Bay, He's a great player.
- 1:11:16Speaker 9: And to watch Jonathan Cappaduritas play, if you saw him
- 1:11:20Speaker 9: once or you saw him twice, you wouldn't get the
- 1:11:24Speaker 9: full sense of the player that he was. But Mark
- 1:11:28Speaker 9: can see a guy and see whatever potential or see
- 1:11:33Speaker 9: whatever it is that this player does so well. The
- 1:11:35Speaker 9: rest of us would have to watch 20, 30, 40 times.
- 1:11:38Speaker 9: Fans in London have seen Jonathan Cappaduritas a few times.
- 1:11:41Speaker 9: They're starting to appreciate him. what he does and the
- 1:11:45Speaker 9: skill level he has, the toughness he plays with, but
- 1:11:48Speaker 9: it's just, it's that eye and being able to put
- 1:11:51Speaker 9: a player on the team where he's going to fit
- 1:11:54Speaker 9: because making a hockey team, making any kind of roster
- 1:11:58Speaker 9: for a sports franchise, it is about that puzzle. And
- 1:12:02Speaker 9: sometimes the pieces for whatever reason, just don't fit. But
- 1:12:07Speaker 9: when you get those pieces to fit, when you can
- 1:12:10Speaker 9: have the players walk into the locker room and say,
- 1:12:13Speaker 9: I just love being here. I want to be around
- 1:12:17Speaker 9: these guys. One of Dale Hunter's terms, and he uses
- 1:12:21Speaker 9: it when the Knights have success, is they cared for
- 1:12:24Speaker 9: each other. You want your players to truly care for
- 1:12:29Speaker 9: each other. And that's what the Knights try and create.
- 1:12:32Speaker 9: And it's a big part of that success. Sometimes the
- 1:12:35Speaker 9: puzzle pieces fit. Sometimes they don't. But when they do,
- 1:12:38Speaker 9: you can just feel it. You can just tell.
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: Absolutely. My last one.
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: Oh, go ahead, Paul. I was just going to say, well,
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: it's based off of Mark Hunter. So I'll just, I'll
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: jump in Colin. Mike, we, we've seen London make a
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: lot of moves so far this season. Like we've, we've
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: seen them trade away some, some players that obviously have
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: some promise or that teams have identified that they like
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: the Knights have stockpiled a lot of draft picks here.
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: Since the season started, I feel like in the last
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: two weeks or the three weeks we've been doing the shows,
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: we've been back. We've had a London Knights trade or
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: two every single week where they're unloading a player. for
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: draft picks and Colin and I are laughing about, okay,
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: what is, what is, what is Mark Hunter got up
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: his sleeve now? What is, what is he stockpiling these
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: draft picks for? Like in your, in your mind, what
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: is this something we're going to have to wait a
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: little bit to see? Do you think Mark is doing
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: something closer to the trade deadline? You know, what, where
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: are these picks going? Because we know at some point
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: London's going to be trying to go after some top
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: end players around the league. And is it just a
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: matter of time when we see some players go out
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: that we're going to see some players come in for
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: the London Knights here with all those picks?
- 1:13:43Speaker 9: I don't– it would look that way, but at the
- 1:13:46Speaker 9: same time, I'll answer this in two ways. One of
- 1:13:50Speaker 9: the things that Mark likes to do is watch his
- 1:13:52Speaker 9: team for a couple of months to see, hey, is
- 1:13:55Speaker 9: there that missing piece somewhere? And to have the flexibility.
- 1:13:59Speaker 9: The Knights right now have an open overage spot. They
- 1:14:02Speaker 9: have the flexibility. If they wanted to go out, could
- 1:14:05Speaker 9: they make a trade that way? Would they have one
- 1:14:08Speaker 9: of those– draft picks that would be able to acquire
- 1:14:10Speaker 9: and fill an overage spot.
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: Sure.
- 1:14:12Speaker 9: I think they're really going to see what their team
- 1:14:15Speaker 9: goes into right now. And the other aspect of that
- 1:14:19Speaker 9: is Mark and Dale Hunter always are cognizant of the
- 1:14:24Speaker 9: product that you put on the ice in front of
- 1:14:27Speaker 9: your fans. They know that they have a very loyal following.
- 1:14:31Speaker 9: They have 9,000 people who are there every single night and,
- 1:14:36Speaker 9: And they don't take that for granted. And so one
- 1:14:39Speaker 9: of the things that truly drives both of them is
- 1:14:43Speaker 9: a concern that one year have a really down year.
- 1:14:46Speaker 9: They don't want to have that. They want to avoid that.
- 1:14:50Speaker 9: And one of the things that allows you to maybe
- 1:14:53Speaker 9: stay at that situation where you don't go into a
- 1:14:57Speaker 9: down year, because let's look at what junior hockey has
- 1:15:00Speaker 9: been for a long time. I'm not convinced it's this anymore,
- 1:15:02Speaker 9: but just with player movement and how many players we
- 1:15:06Speaker 9: could see leaving to play in the NCAA or even
- 1:15:09Speaker 9: to go and play pro hockey. If they're a first
- 1:15:12Speaker 9: round pick in the American hockey league, it used to
- 1:15:14Speaker 9: be you rebuilt, then you contended or maybe you competed
- 1:15:20Speaker 9: and then you contended. Maybe that's the best way to
- 1:15:22Speaker 9: say it. So you would have a down year or
- 1:15:24Speaker 9: rebuilding year, and then you would be competitive and then
- 1:15:27Speaker 9: you would contend for a championship. And then the cycle
- 1:15:30Speaker 9: would start again. And again, The Knights have been able
- 1:15:33Speaker 9: to avoid that. And one of the reasons that they
- 1:15:36Speaker 9: have been able to avoid that is they don't let
- 1:15:38Speaker 9: that draft stock, that cupboard, get bare very often. And
- 1:15:42Speaker 9: even if it is, they make sure and they fill
- 1:15:45Speaker 9: that back up. And then you count on your staff
- 1:15:48Speaker 9: to go out, find the players, and then you draft them.
- 1:15:51Speaker 9: And then Dale Hunter and his staff, they develop them.
- 1:15:53Speaker 9: And it's a system. And you add in the motto
- 1:15:57Speaker 9: of just hopeful and humble. And that's how they try
- 1:16:00Speaker 9: and live life every day. And you get some of
- 1:16:03Speaker 9: the success that the London Knights have been able to enjoy.
- 1:16:06Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: We speak of the success, Mike, and last time you
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: were on, you shared the mem cup story with the
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: last one in Red Deer for the Knights in 20,
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: in 2016, for that matter. And you mentioned the goal,
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: the delay and the player, and the player, the scratches
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: coming out on the ice like that. They didn't know
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: who scored. And then they're out there with the TV delay.
- 1:16:26Speaker 2: You're in Rimerski. Any updates, any new stories that you
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: can share? I know, Our listeners got a kick out
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: of that one with the last story. Any new ones
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: from Rimurski? And the call, by the way, was incredible.
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: I don't know. Did you think of having that in
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: your head just in case it happens? Or do you
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: just let it go? What's on the top of your
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: head whenever it happens?
- 1:16:48Speaker 9: Yeah, you always wonder about those moments because it's almost
- 1:16:52Speaker 9: a hard tournament when you follow a team closely because
- 1:16:56Speaker 9: you want to see them succeed. You just want to
- 1:17:00Speaker 9: see– and so does everybody else. And ultimately, by the
- 1:17:03Speaker 9: time you get to the Memorial Cup, yes, there's coaching
- 1:17:06Speaker 9: to be done, but you just– you wind up having
- 1:17:09Speaker 9: a lot of people just cheering for the guys who
- 1:17:12Speaker 9: have to go out and perform. And for that team,
- 1:17:16Speaker 9: that was the only thing that would have fit. That
- 1:17:19Speaker 9: was the only thing that would have been okay. So
- 1:17:22Speaker 9: you start a year and you say the only thing
- 1:17:24Speaker 9: that's going to be okay– is to get 21.7 seconds
- 1:17:28Speaker 9: better because that's when Saginaw had scored the year before
- 1:17:31Speaker 9: in the Memorial Cup final. Be there, but be able
- 1:17:34Speaker 9: to finish those final 21.7 seconds and be the team
- 1:17:38Speaker 9: with the bigger number on the scoreboard.
- 1:17:40Speaker 3: And that was the only thing.
- 1:17:41Speaker 9: So that was a lot for those players. And then
- 1:17:45Speaker 9: to lose to Medicine Hat in the round robin, instead
- 1:17:48Speaker 9: of saying, uh-oh, they looked at that and said, you
- 1:17:52Speaker 9: know what, this is going to work out well. Because
- 1:17:54Speaker 9: last year, We got the bye to the final, and
- 1:17:56Speaker 9: it didn't work. New path, new path. You kept hearing
- 1:18:00Speaker 9: players say that.
- 1:18:00Speaker 3: New road.
- 1:18:01Speaker 9: And they kind of repeated that for a couple of days,
- 1:18:04Speaker 9: and maybe it did work into their favor. But I
- 1:18:06Speaker 9: think they would have been tough to beat that game
- 1:18:09Speaker 9: no matter what in Rimouski. And maybe it's not as
- 1:18:13Speaker 9: fun as the story where there were seven guys who
- 1:18:17Speaker 9: thought that Ruan Aranda had won the Memorial Cup in 2016.
- 1:18:21Speaker 9: If you don't know the story, they were the scratches,
- 1:18:23Speaker 9: as Colin had said. and the video coaches, and there
- 1:18:26Speaker 9: wasn't room for them in the building, and so they
- 1:18:29Speaker 9: were down in the dressing room, and they were watching,
- 1:18:31Speaker 9: and the TV was delayed, and the puck actually took
- 1:18:34Speaker 9: about seven seconds to go from one end of the
- 1:18:36Speaker 9: ice to the other, and the Knights scored the winner,
- 1:18:39Speaker 9: but the cheer came seven seconds earlier, and the guys
- 1:18:42Speaker 9: in the dressing room thought that Ruan Aranda had won
- 1:18:45Speaker 9: because the crowd was about split. They were just cheering
- 1:18:48Speaker 9: for hockey. There wasn't a WHL team in the final.
- 1:18:51Speaker 9: They were just cheering for hockey. When there was a goal,
- 1:18:53Speaker 9: they cheered. So that was that story. I think the
- 1:18:57Speaker 9: thing that I'll remember most, and I hope Mark doesn't
- 1:19:01Speaker 9: mind me telling this, but we've talked a lot about him.
- 1:19:05Speaker 9: We were on the flight back. And so I think
- 1:19:09Speaker 9: We flew out that night at 1 a.m. And I
- 1:19:11Speaker 9: think Medicine Hat left at 2 a.m. because there aren't
- 1:19:15Speaker 9: a lot of airports out of Rimouski. So you have
- 1:19:17Speaker 9: to basically go out to an airport far out of
- 1:19:20Speaker 9: the city. And so the flights were staggered. And we
- 1:19:23Speaker 9: got on our flight. And at 1 a.m., you're on
- 1:19:26Speaker 9: your way home. And it's exhausting. The week's exhausting. So
- 1:19:29Speaker 9: as much as you think, wow, people will be running
- 1:19:32Speaker 9: around and celebrating. No, it gets pretty quiet pretty quick.
- 1:19:36Speaker 9: But at about three o'clock in the morning, the lights
- 1:19:38Speaker 9: came on and they were doing food service, which sure,
- 1:19:42Speaker 9: you know, why not? But with the lights coming on,
- 1:19:45Speaker 9: Mark was sitting in the front of the plane and
- 1:19:47Speaker 9: he got up and he was just able to take
- 1:19:49Speaker 9: in everything. And I'll never forget the look on his face.
- 1:19:53Speaker 9: I can't show it to you because it's in my brain.
- 1:19:56Speaker 9: But the look on his face of just looking back
- 1:19:59Speaker 9: and realizing that that team had been able to pull
- 1:20:02Speaker 9: off the only thing that would have made that season OK.
- 1:20:06Speaker 9: I'll never forget that look, and it was incredible, and
- 1:20:09Speaker 9: it was a happily ever after. There was a once
- 1:20:12Speaker 9: upon a time to that collection of players, Oliver Bonk
- 1:20:16Speaker 9: and Denver Barkey and Easton Cowan and Sam Dickinson, and
- 1:20:20Speaker 9: we can keep listing off names, Sam O'Reilly for sure.
- 1:20:23Speaker 3: Casper.
- 1:20:24Speaker 9: Yeah, Casper Halton. There was a once upon a time.
- 1:20:29Speaker 9: Very rarely do you get to have a happily ever after.
- 1:20:32Speaker 9: That was the happily ever after right there.
- 1:20:34Speaker 2: Makes you love the game, and it's interesting. You get that,
- 1:20:37Speaker 2: I mean, right from training camp, as soon as that,
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: you mentioned the 21 seconds, as soon as that happened,
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: it felt like, okay, Easton Cowan's back next year. Devin
- 1:20:45Speaker 2: Barkey's back next year. All these guys are coming back.
- 1:20:48Speaker 2: I actually know Casper Haldeman's here, and it's like, okay,
- 1:20:51Speaker 2: it's got to be this year. This year has to
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: be the year. Did you get that vibe from as
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: soon as that group was together and back and assembled?
- 1:20:57Speaker 2: And obviously the Austin Elliott story, that was incredible. Another
- 1:21:00Speaker 2: thing about scouting, but... Did you get that vibe right
- 1:21:05Speaker 2: away when that group was together? It's Mem Kupp or Bost?
- 1:21:09Speaker 3: There were. Yo, absolutely.
- 1:21:11Speaker 9: I think they were treating it that way without saying it.
- 1:21:13Speaker 9: But it was like one more chance, one more time.
- 1:21:16Speaker 9: You heard them say things like that. And you mentioned
- 1:21:19Speaker 9: Casper Halton. And when you were around him, you just
- 1:21:22Speaker 9: kind of got the feeling things were going to be okay. And,
- 1:21:27Speaker 9: you know, the players used the word aura. He just
- 1:21:31Speaker 9: had that. I remember being at a morning skate in
- 1:21:34Speaker 9: Oshawa and Casper Halton was shooting pucks. He shot a
- 1:21:38Speaker 9: lot of pucks. There's a reason his shot's so good.
- 1:21:41Speaker 9: And he was shooting pucks at the end of practice.
- 1:21:43Speaker 9: And he comes over and he knocks a bunch of
- 1:21:46Speaker 9: little pylons off the bench.
- 1:21:49Speaker 3: And he goes, oh, no.
- 1:21:51Speaker 9: As if, you know, I don't want to have anything
- 1:21:53Speaker 9: go wrong. This was one of the games in Oshawa.
- 1:21:56Speaker 9: It was a pivotal game and he looked down and
- 1:21:59Speaker 9: the pylons had been knocked off, but they'd landed straight up.
- 1:22:04Speaker 9: And so just little things like that would happen when
- 1:22:06Speaker 9: Casper was around where whatever it was, it went perfect.
- 1:22:11Speaker 9: So pylons fall off the bench. Somehow they find a
- 1:22:14Speaker 9: way to land straight up just fine. And it was
- 1:22:16Speaker 9: a sign. And I think that was one of the
- 1:22:18Speaker 9: nights he went out and got a hat trick. So
- 1:22:20Speaker 9: that team had a lot of special qualities to it, but.
- 1:22:24Speaker 9: it had that care for each other. They were in
- 1:22:26Speaker 9: it for each other and they ended up getting it done.
- 1:22:30Speaker 9: And that's something that they'll be able to celebrate forever.
- 1:22:35Speaker 7: Absolutely.
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: So Mike, before we let you go here, talking about
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: this season's installment of the London Knights, their quote unquote
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: rebuild last season, they still finished fourth in the Western conference.
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: And now they look like they're going to be, you know,
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: contending with Guelph again for, you know, a Midwest of
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: division title and potentially, uh, a four Pete for the
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: Midwest division as OHL champions. So one, who's your final
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: team to, to, to go undefeated out of the three
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: that are left. And I guess the second part of
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: that is what is your just sort of outlook for
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: where this night's team shakes out in the Western conference
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: as we go forward here, I guess for your prediction
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: in early October, late September.
- 1:23:11Speaker 9: Well, it'll, It'll be a fun ride because I think
- 1:23:15Speaker 9: London and Guelph are going to be there right to
- 1:23:18Speaker 9: the end. We've seen those battles before, and they're two
- 1:23:21Speaker 9: cities that do rivalries really well. So that's going to
- 1:23:26Speaker 9: be a lot of fun. I do want to see
- 1:23:28Speaker 9: the London Knights go more than 4-0, so I'll root
- 1:23:32Speaker 9: for the London Knights in that prediction. But are we
- 1:23:34Speaker 9: not all stunned by the Brantford Bulldogs? You can't give
- 1:23:38Speaker 9: out Executive of the Year in September, but maybe you can.
- 1:23:42Speaker 9: Maybe you can right now because they last year had
- 1:23:46Speaker 9: just an astoundingly good roster.
- 1:23:49Speaker 3: Unfortunately, it didn't work out for them.
- 1:23:52Speaker 9: But to think, okay, they've lost a great percentage, not
- 1:23:56Speaker 9: a small percentage, a big percentage of that roster. And
- 1:23:59Speaker 9: then to be able to get off to a start
- 1:24:01Speaker 9: like this, that's miraculous. So I'm fascinated to see Brantford
- 1:24:06Speaker 9: as we go along. And I'm just rooting for at
- 1:24:09Speaker 9: least 5-0 for the Knights.
- 1:24:11Speaker 3: Maybe more.
- 1:24:12Speaker 2: Who knows?
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: Yes, I get it.
- 1:24:17Speaker 2: It's funny, Mike, you mentioned Brantford and obviously starting was
- 1:24:21Speaker 2: enjoying the team and Brantford and Spencer Hyman buying the team.
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: And he's got that aggressiveness to him. That's very similar
- 1:24:30Speaker 2: to what I grew up with watching Mark Hunter, where
- 1:24:34Speaker 2: there's a lot of process. There's a lot of work
- 1:24:36Speaker 2: that goes into it. And like the scouting staff this summer,
- 1:24:40Speaker 2: Really went to work. And the new arena in Brantford
- 1:24:44Speaker 2: and the new energy with the Hyman family is brought
- 1:24:47Speaker 2: to the table here. It feels like with this NCAA
- 1:24:50Speaker 2: and the relationship the Hyman family has with the University
- 1:24:53Speaker 2: of Michigan and the NCAA, it's so similar. That reminds
- 1:24:57Speaker 2: me growing up watching how the Hunters conducted business here
- 1:25:00Speaker 2: with free agents and some of the things. Obviously, the
- 1:25:02Speaker 2: landscape's kind of changed, but it's so similar to how
- 1:25:05Speaker 2: aggressive Spencer is in a way that there's kind of
- 1:25:08Speaker 2: a little bit of a vibe there. It's interesting to
- 1:25:12Speaker 2: see the comparison. They're different, but something is there where
- 1:25:16Speaker 2: it kind of reminds me. It's very similar in the
- 1:25:18Speaker 2: way Mark Hunter conducts himself.
- 1:25:21Speaker 9: All about lines of communication. And I'm sure that's what's
- 1:25:24Speaker 9: happening with Spencer Hyman. You want everybody to remember you're there.
- 1:25:28Speaker 9: And in order to do that, you have to keep
- 1:25:30Speaker 9: those lines of communication open. There's the story of Patrick Kane.
- 1:25:36Speaker 9: And his family was set against coming to London because
- 1:25:40Speaker 9: they felt he was too small to play in the
- 1:25:42Speaker 9: Ontario Hockey League. And you would have Mark and Dale
- 1:25:45Speaker 9: Hunter who would show up at a tournament in Milwaukee.
- 1:25:50Speaker 9: And the Kane family would look and say, what are
- 1:25:53Speaker 9: they doing? They were there and they would watch the
- 1:25:55Speaker 9: game and they might not even have a conversation with
- 1:25:58Speaker 9: the Kane family. But they were just there. And finally,
- 1:26:02Speaker 9: as the story goes, Patrick Kane's dad, Pat, went over
- 1:26:06Speaker 9: and said, we keep seeing you guys at places you
- 1:26:09Speaker 9: would never. We're in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, or we're in Lake Placid,
- 1:26:13Speaker 9: New York, or wherever they were.
- 1:26:16Speaker 3: What is it?
- 1:26:17Speaker 9: And all it was was we just feel your son
- 1:26:20Speaker 9: is a really special player, and we just want you
- 1:26:22Speaker 9: to know if he does want to try the OHL,
- 1:26:25Speaker 9: we think he could fit in really well.
- 1:26:27Speaker 3: And what do you know?
- 1:26:28Speaker 9: He had one of the biggest point totals any London night,
- 1:26:32Speaker 9: any OHLer.
- 1:26:33Speaker 3: As ever had.
- 1:26:34Speaker 9: And he wound up going first overall, but it's just
- 1:26:36Speaker 9: keeping those lines of communication open. But that's, that's the
- 1:26:40Speaker 9: hard thing. Those that's the attention to detail stuff. Cause
- 1:26:43Speaker 9: it's so easy to say, well, you know, we had
- 1:26:45Speaker 9: a conversation and you know, the player has a lot
- 1:26:47Speaker 9: of options and look at how many options they have
- 1:26:49Speaker 9: these days to actually follow that up and then follow
- 1:26:53Speaker 9: it up again. We always hear it when we're looking
- 1:26:55Speaker 9: for jobs. You want to, when you apply for that job,
- 1:26:58Speaker 9: did you follow up?
- 1:26:59Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:26:59Speaker 3: I followed up the first time. Did you follow up again?
- 1:27:02Speaker 2: Well, no.
- 1:27:03Speaker 9: And you know, they didn't call and I didn't call
- 1:27:05Speaker 9: and yeah, we kind of grew apart. And next thing
- 1:27:08Speaker 9: you know, the player's playing somewhere else. The job has
- 1:27:10Speaker 9: gone to somebody else. Keep those lines of communication open
- 1:27:15Speaker 9: and who knows what might happen.
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: A lot of good life lessons for sure, Mike. And
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: we could have you on here talking hours about London
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: Knights and junior hockey and the stories over the years.
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: I'm sure, you know, you've got an entire book to
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: write one day when it's all said and done, but
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: we look forward to having you back on the show
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: at some point. But yeah, you know, off to a
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: great start with the London Knights, a classic rock 98.1, uh,
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: every game home and away for the London Knights. Listen
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: to Mike Stubbs, his call, uh, Mike, we appreciate your
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: time today, giving us a, you know, we only expected
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: about 20 minutes or so, and we ended up going
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: double that. So, um, Colin and I, uh, you know,
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: respect you a lot and love hearing your story. So
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: really appreciate it and look forward to talking to you again, uh,
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: going forward here, uh, as hopefully the Knights, uh, you know,
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: continue to, to do big things here, uh, for the
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: rest of the 26, 27 season.
- 1:28:00Speaker 9: Well, when you guys do the telethon format of your
- 1:28:03Speaker 9: podcast and you go a full 12 hours, you call me.
- 1:28:05Speaker 3: I'll be there for all 12. I promise. We've got stories.
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: You're lined up for a trade deadline show guest because
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: we're going to need it for that day.
- 1:28:13Speaker 2: It's 12 hours long.
- 1:28:15Speaker 9: Can I thank you on behalf of OHL fans and
- 1:28:18Speaker 9: junior hockey fans for the work that you have put in,
- 1:28:20Speaker 9: what you've grown your network into is incredible. And we
- 1:28:25Speaker 9: need people to tell the stories. That's how we get
- 1:28:28Speaker 9: into things. like the Ontario Hockey League. You need to
- 1:28:32Speaker 9: learn the players. You need to know about them. And
- 1:28:34Speaker 9: you do such a phenomenal job making that happen. So
- 1:28:37Speaker 9: please keep.
- 1:28:37Speaker 3: Doing what you're doing. Call me on Telethonday. Call me
- 1:28:40Speaker 3: on trade deadline day. I'm there.
- 1:28:43Speaker 2: Thank you, Mike.
- 1:28:44Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: Thanks so much, Mike. Appreciate it. Talk soon.
- 1:28:47Speaker 3: Have a good night.
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: There was Mike Stubbs, the longtime London Knights voice on
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: classic rock 98.1. Colin, I know that was big for yourself,
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: obviously growing up as a Knights fan, listening to Mike
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: on the radio. And for me, since getting into media,
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: I've grown a newfound respect for the London Knights. Everybody
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: knew as I grew up a Niagara Ice Dogs fan
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: in 2012 and 2016, the London Knights.
- 1:29:07Speaker 3: Thanks for the memories.
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely. But since going into media, the Knights have
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: sort of flipped the script. They sort of become a
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: favorite team of mine just because of how they operate
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: and with people like Mike and Jim Van Horn as well.
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: You know, all the great people up there in London,
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: every time we're there, you know, just great hospitality and
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: a first class organization. You know, they don't call themselves
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: the mini NHL for nothing. And people like Mike are
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: so great to have as colleagues and friends of ours.
- 1:29:33Speaker 5: Right.
- 1:29:35Speaker 2: Oh, you know what, Mike? Mike is the best. Like
- 1:29:39Speaker 2: I said, I like growing up a Detroit Red Wings fan,
- 1:29:44Speaker 2: listening to Mickey Redmond and Ken Daniels and then Friday
- 1:29:48Speaker 2: night's at John Labatt Center, Budweiser Garden Center, Canada Life Place,
- 1:29:53Speaker 2: hearing Mike Stubbs in the backyard with my dad, if
- 1:29:56Speaker 2: it's a double overtime game in Plymouth, like the 2012,
- 1:30:01Speaker 2: and hearing on the iPad, the radio station on, and
- 1:30:04Speaker 2: the DeWalt radio out in the backyard, playing catch with
- 1:30:08Speaker 2: my dad in April, listening to Mike Stubbs on the call, man.
- 1:30:11Speaker 2: That was my life growing up. Like, I lived and
- 1:30:17Speaker 2: breathed the London Knights. It was unbelievable. Like I get
- 1:30:22Speaker 2: emotional just thinking about it, man. Like it was like
- 1:30:24Speaker 2: in Mike's dubs, like he narrated my life watching the Knights.
- 1:30:29Speaker 2: Like that was the voice that I grew up for.
- 1:30:32Speaker 2: And I know Dylan Baker with a voice of the
- 1:30:34Speaker 2: Guelph storm on the radio side, like when, what, you know,
- 1:30:37Speaker 2: like growing up in London, he's the next great, like
- 1:30:40Speaker 2: there's so many kids that grew up, that were kids
- 1:30:43Speaker 2: once upon a time in London that grew up, listening
- 1:30:47Speaker 2: to Mike and the impact he's had. I mean, you
- 1:30:49Speaker 2: strive to tell stories like Mike can. You strive to
- 1:30:52Speaker 2: interview people like Mike does. Like there's a lot of
- 1:30:56Speaker 2: things that Mike does that sets a standard for the
- 1:30:59Speaker 2: way broadcasting should be, the way he conducts himself, the
- 1:31:02Speaker 2: way he conducts himself on social media nowadays, which is
- 1:31:04Speaker 2: a huge thing. Everything Mike does is incredible. He reminds
- 1:31:09Speaker 2: me as a Red Wings fan, he reminds me of
- 1:31:12Speaker 2: the Nick Lidstrom of broadcasting. He's always named the perfect human,
- 1:31:17Speaker 2: Nick Lidstrom. That's Mike Stubbs of broadcasting. When you think
- 1:31:20Speaker 2: about the broadcaster, the way they conduct themselves, the way
- 1:31:23Speaker 2: the voice, how they project themselves, I mean, everything's 11
- 1:31:28Speaker 2: out of 10 with Mike, right?
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: Humble and class.
- 1:31:32Speaker 2: Oh, you're not going to meet a nicer, more classier
- 1:31:35Speaker 2: person in the Ontario Hockey League than Mike Stubbs. I'm
- 1:31:37Speaker 2: honestly in the CHL. I have never met any broadcaster that, like, honestly,
- 1:31:43Speaker 2: every time, obviously being with the Bulldogs, every time I
- 1:31:48Speaker 2: get to have a conversation with Mike, it's only twice
- 1:31:50Speaker 2: a year in arenas. Every single time I'm gravitated to
- 1:31:56Speaker 2: asking Mike questions. It's honestly, there's two people over the
- 1:31:59Speaker 2: last couple of years that having conversations with that, you
- 1:32:02Speaker 2: learn things around the league. And obviously the relationship I
- 1:32:06Speaker 2: was fortunate to have with Jay McKee, the last few
- 1:32:08Speaker 2: years at Brantford was huge. And in Hamilton, I mean,
- 1:32:11Speaker 2: cheese was the best. I could talk to him about anything.
- 1:32:14Speaker 2: I learned so much about hockey every single game, every
- 1:32:20Speaker 2: day talking to Jay McKee. I learned so much like
- 1:32:23Speaker 2: from guys getting traded to, I don't know, like everything
- 1:32:29Speaker 2: about hockey, about certain situations in the game, like, and
- 1:32:33Speaker 2: being able to ask Jay and honestly, like the relationship
- 1:32:36Speaker 2: I have with Spencer Hyman as well has been incredible,
- 1:32:38Speaker 2: but being able to ask Jay, like, as you know, Brandon,
- 1:32:41Speaker 2: some of the things I am able to, like I
- 1:32:43Speaker 2: share stories about it, like, the open door and Mike,
- 1:32:46Speaker 2: whenever the Bulldogs play in London or in Brantford, every,
- 1:32:51Speaker 2: any question about the league, any question about the Knights,
- 1:32:54Speaker 2: you know, it's just like, I'm a little kid again,
- 1:32:56Speaker 2: talking to somebody who set the standard for the, for broadcasting.
- 1:33:00Speaker 2: And that's the coolest thing to not take advantage, to
- 1:33:03Speaker 2: not take advantage of being able to pick Mike's dubs.
- 1:33:06Speaker 2: His brain is a disservice. You have to be able
- 1:33:10Speaker 2: to do that. He, in my opinion, there's a, there's
- 1:33:13Speaker 2: a lot of incredible, incredible broadcasters in the Ontario Hockey
- 1:33:16Speaker 2: League we are very lucky on the radio side when
- 1:33:19Speaker 2: you look in Kingston with Mr. Gilchrist when you look
- 1:33:22Speaker 2: in honestly in Kitchener with Mike Farwell like when you
- 1:33:26Speaker 2: look at some of these people who have broadcasted games
- 1:33:29Speaker 2: for years being the voice of the teams Mike Stubbs
- 1:33:33Speaker 2: man like and then this like being growing up in
- 1:33:36Speaker 2: London like he's the best he honestly I have so
- 1:33:40Speaker 2: much respect for Mike Stubbs like like I said, growing
- 1:33:43Speaker 2: up to him and that's kind of how the podcast started.
- 1:33:46Speaker 2: You know, I was at a game in Sarnia with
- 1:33:48Speaker 2: my dad in college and an intern when I had,
- 1:33:51Speaker 2: when Reese and I had the internship at TSN 1150
- 1:33:55Speaker 2: and it wasn't me. It was my dad that goes,
- 1:33:58Speaker 2: Hey Mike, this is my son calling, you know, big
- 1:34:02Speaker 2: Knights fan. So, so, you know, um, wants to know
- 1:34:04Speaker 2: if you can check out the podcast. Boom. Since then
- 1:34:07Speaker 2: you look back. So it's always really cool. It's emotional.
- 1:34:11Speaker 2: I've been talking to Mike, um, Brandon, for setting that up,
- 1:34:14Speaker 2: that's the best. Like I said, I felt so energetic
- 1:34:19Speaker 2: today coming onto the show. I don't even think we're
- 1:34:22Speaker 2: going to be able to do the power rankings. Maybe
- 1:34:24Speaker 2: we just have to do the picks for how long
- 1:34:26Speaker 2: we've went, but Mike's the best. I know, Brandon, we've
- 1:34:30Speaker 2: had so many talks as our friendship. We've talked so
- 1:34:35Speaker 2: many times about how London is a model franchise. Like
- 1:34:40Speaker 2: you just mentioned about growing up a Niagara fan, but
- 1:34:43Speaker 2: and you didn't like the Knights, but now you see
- 1:34:45Speaker 2: what the Knights are when you're actually involved in the
- 1:34:47Speaker 2: Ontario hockey league, you, you learn to respect them. And
- 1:34:50Speaker 2: I think Mike Stubbs being the voice of the empire
- 1:34:53Speaker 2: is he's the voice of the castle, you know? And
- 1:34:56Speaker 2: I think that's really cool. I think there's nobody better.
- 1:35:00Speaker 2: I have so much respect for Mike Stubbs. Yeah.
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: I mean, there's nothing more you can say, just a,
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: a plus human being a plus broadcaster and to be
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: as humble as he is for somebody that's called games
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: for the London Knights for as long as he has, um,
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: you know, that says a lot about him and, and just, uh,
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: you know, it's never, uh, you're never bugging him for
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: any of his time, even though he's a very guy
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: that has limited time and he, he always makes time for,
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: for people. And he's, he's a great person as well.
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: So that's, that, that's what makes you want to root
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: for guys like that. And, I'm glad to see, you know,
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: the new radio station take over and Mike continue calling
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: the games for the Knights now on classic rock 98.1,
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: you know, formerly CFPL, but you know, just, just great
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: stuff there. And we'd love to have Mike on, you know,
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: helping us through the trade deadline day gauntlet. I'm sure
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: we could talk with him for days, but look forward
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: to having Mike back on. He's got stories for days.
- 1:35:50Speaker 2: So going to go through the first 12 years of
- 1:35:53Speaker 2: my life for six hours about the night in Knights history.
- 1:35:56Speaker 2: So this is from years one to 12.
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: And when 20, when you guys talk about 2012 and 2016,
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: I'll just get up and leave for a couple of minutes.
- 1:36:06Speaker 3: Hey, watch the popcorn though.
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: Yeah. We don't want to go over that again. We're
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: going to, we're going to scrap power rankings, but we
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: are going to go over performers of the week. Colin
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: player of the week this week in the Ontario hockey
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: league is going to be Adam. The botany red Tilson effect. Not,
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: not a big deal.
- 1:36:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: Three. Yeah, I guess so. As the host.
- 1:36:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: Yeah. First season is in the host chair. I guess
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: I got some beginner's luck here. But Adam Novotny, three,
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: three games played, three goals, three assists. Again, we talked
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: about Peterborough, you know, not really sure what what's going
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: to happen there. And they're not off to a great start.
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: But Adam Novotny being back is going to be a
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: catalyst for them. He's the OHL player of the week.
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: The OHL goaltender of the week comes from Collins Neck
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: of the Woods there. Vilmer, Salem, Forsberg, two games played, 2-0,
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: 250 goals against average, 925 save percentage, 62 saves. He's
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: also in his rookie season in the Ontario Hockey League,
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: so he could have easily won rookie of the week
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: as well in the OHL. That goes to Aiden Kelly
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: of also the Brantford Bulldogs. Three games played, one goal,
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: four assists, plus four or five points on the week
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: for Aiden Kelly. Colin, just quickly here on these three players,
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: obviously two of them being from Brantford, but what can
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: you say about their weeks?
- 1:37:24Speaker 2: Adam Novotny, I mean, it's a great pick by you, Brandon,
- 1:37:29Speaker 2: for the MVP. I mean, you look at the energy
- 1:37:31Speaker 2: he's come in with, and that's the one thing I
- 1:37:32Speaker 2: watch for when guys get sent back from pro programs.
- 1:37:35Speaker 2: I always watch for the fact of, are they going
- 1:37:38Speaker 2: to come back with energy? Are they going to come
- 1:37:39Speaker 2: back with, oh, you know, I was banking on NHL
- 1:37:43Speaker 2: or bus type year. I didn't pick on being back
- 1:37:46Speaker 2: here in the Ontario Hockey League not to look down
- 1:37:48Speaker 2: on it but it kind of you know there's a
- 1:37:50Speaker 2: little bit of maturity that you know that you go
- 1:37:52Speaker 2: through and you gotta learn to overcome some things right
- 1:37:55Speaker 2: that's life and for Adam Novotny to come down though
- 1:37:58Speaker 2: come back the way he has the amount of shots
- 1:38:00Speaker 2: on goal he's got I mean you're looking at 16
- 1:38:02Speaker 2: shots in three games from Adam Novotny the maturity level
- 1:38:05Speaker 2: is there he's come back and said hey I'm coming
- 1:38:07Speaker 2: back to be the MVP. Don't forget about me. This
- 1:38:09Speaker 2: is my league. So I'm very excited to see Adam Novotny.
- 1:38:12Speaker 2: This isn't going to be the last time he wins
- 1:38:14Speaker 2: player of the week, Brandon. If you're going to win
- 1:38:16Speaker 2: the MVP, you're getting player of the week more than once.
- 1:38:19Speaker 2: So Adam Novotny, a heck of a week for him.
- 1:38:23Speaker 2: Goaltender or rookies? What's next, Brandon? Goaltender?
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: I mean, they're both from Brantford, so you just go
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: ahead and talk about.
- 1:38:29Speaker 2: Both of them. Okay, I'll start with Aiden Kelly, who
- 1:38:31Speaker 2: has come in and has been dominant. I mean, I
- 1:38:35Speaker 2: spoke before the interview with Mike, and I spoke about it,
- 1:38:38Speaker 2: about the fact of the matter is about Spencer Hyman
- 1:38:41Speaker 2: being so high on Aiden Kelly. And Aiden Kelly's story
- 1:38:44Speaker 2: is incredible about how he ended up in Brantford. He
- 1:38:46Speaker 2: interviewed with two other teams around the league other than Brantford.
- 1:38:49Speaker 2: but he was sold on Brantford. He was sold on Brantford.
- 1:38:52Speaker 2: And that's a testament. And like I mentioned, talked about
- 1:38:54Speaker 2: with Mike about Spencer Hyman, reminding me so much of
- 1:38:57Speaker 2: Mark Hunter in him. He's got that communication as Mike said,
- 1:39:01Speaker 2: and I'm very intrigued. This is the thing. This is
- 1:39:04Speaker 2: Spencer Hyman sweet spot developing, but I also think recruitment
- 1:39:09Speaker 2: is that that's his sweet spot. That's a strong suit.
- 1:39:11Speaker 2: I think that's where Aiden, he, you know, the personalities match.
- 1:39:16Speaker 2: They gel well right away. And I think for Aiden, he,
- 1:39:19Speaker 2: to not go to the draft in Kingston because he
- 1:39:21Speaker 2: didn't want to show signs that he was interested in
- 1:39:23Speaker 2: the OHL because the only place he wanted to be
- 1:39:24Speaker 2: was Brantford. And that's Spencer Hyman to a T. So
- 1:39:28Speaker 2: that's Spencer's guy. It's like a good quarterback. When you
- 1:39:31Speaker 2: get an elite quarterback, your coach, the head coach is
- 1:39:35Speaker 2: going to go for you, right? Like they're going to
- 1:39:37Speaker 2: stick up for you. They're going to talk about you.
- 1:39:39Speaker 2: I never saw Russell Wilson being a Bronco fan, but
- 1:39:41Speaker 2: Sean Payton, as soon as Bo Nix walked in the door,
- 1:39:43Speaker 2: that's his guy. This is Spencer Hyman's guy. And I
- 1:39:47Speaker 2: think for Aiden... Obviously the sky's the limit. He's always
- 1:39:51Speaker 2: scored a lot of goals wherever he's been. You look
- 1:39:53Speaker 2: at the little Caesars program, the impact he had on
- 1:39:55Speaker 2: their program last year, the start, obviously that helps Spencer's quotes,
- 1:40:00Speaker 2: getting the best player in the draft at 20 and
- 1:40:03Speaker 2: you'll triple down on that. That's a quote on Aiden Kelly.
- 1:40:06Speaker 2: That's going to be the quote. I think everybody will
- 1:40:08Speaker 2: circle back on if he has a special season and
- 1:40:10Speaker 2: Aiden Kelly, eight points in five games and the maturity
- 1:40:13Speaker 2: levels there, you see the confidence already goes through the
- 1:40:15Speaker 2: legs on Saturday against Kingston brand and hits a post.
- 1:40:19Speaker 2: It's game four in the Ontario Hockey League, and he's
- 1:40:22Speaker 2: already going through the legs. It just shows the confidence.
- 1:40:24Speaker 2: If the Bulldogs can get Jake O'Brien back from Seattle's camp,
- 1:40:28Speaker 2: this would be interesting to see Aiden Kelly grow from
- 1:40:33Speaker 2: Jake O'Brien. And to think what Musa would do with
- 1:40:38Speaker 2: somebody like Jake O'Brien and distributes the puck so well
- 1:40:42Speaker 2: would be very interesting to me. So that's something to
- 1:40:43Speaker 2: watch for. But Vilmer, Salem, Forsberg, and Netbrand, and as
- 1:40:46Speaker 2: you see it on your YouTube screen for those watching
- 1:40:47Speaker 2: on YouTube, Goaltender of the week. This is interesting. Obviously,
- 1:40:52Speaker 2: you'll be with the Bulldogs. I can touch on some
- 1:40:54Speaker 2: of these situations a little bit more in depth. Sorry,
- 1:40:56Speaker 2: I don't want OHL fans to think, oh, call it.
- 1:40:59Speaker 2: Get over it already. I don't want to come off
- 1:41:01Speaker 2: as that. I'm on here. I'm on the dog cast
- 1:41:03Speaker 2: to talk about the Bulldogs. I'm on the OHL to
- 1:41:05Speaker 2: talk about the OHL, not just the Bulldogs. And I
- 1:41:08Speaker 2: feel like for Vilmer, Salem, Forsberg, this is an interesting
- 1:41:10Speaker 2: one for me. I think Vilmer has been an incredible
- 1:41:14Speaker 2: addition for the Bulldogs. I think, obviously, the draft ceiling
- 1:41:17Speaker 2: is high. Um, you see from his agent, Alan Walsh,
- 1:41:21Speaker 2: a lot like it, you see the social media talk,
- 1:41:24Speaker 2: you see the scouts in attendance that are so intrigued
- 1:41:26Speaker 2: with Vilmer. The size stands out. As soon as you
- 1:41:28Speaker 2: look at him, he's long, he's lanky, covers a lot
- 1:41:31Speaker 2: of room of the net of the net. And you're
- 1:41:34Speaker 2: looking at him. It's like, this is everything, everything that
- 1:41:38Speaker 2: you would want in a goaltender at the next level.
- 1:41:42Speaker 2: And you hear the rumors about, Oh, this could be
- 1:41:44Speaker 2: the top goaltender taken out of the OHL. in the
- 1:41:47Speaker 2: draft this year. This could be the top goaltender taken
- 1:41:49Speaker 2: in the NHL draft this season. He's got all the tools.
- 1:41:52Speaker 2: Training camp was an adjustment for him. Training camp was
- 1:41:55Speaker 2: an adjustment for him. This week for Vilmer's game, Brandon,
- 1:41:58Speaker 2: was huge.
- 1:41:59Speaker 5: Huge.
- 1:42:00Speaker 2: Obviously, to move from Sweden at 17 years old across
- 1:42:03Speaker 2: the world is tough. It's hard. You got to go
- 1:42:06Speaker 2: through that adjustment. Brandon, you've saw it a lot dealing
- 1:42:10Speaker 2: with when you were with the Ice Dogs. You saw
- 1:42:12Speaker 2: it a lot with goaltenders. It is hard to go.
- 1:42:15Speaker 2: There's homesick. for any player, not just goaltenders, you deal
- 1:42:18Speaker 2: with things like that. For Vilmer to have the week
- 1:42:20Speaker 2: he had and to show some fans who have a
- 1:42:23Speaker 2: lot of questions, like I say, the dog cast DMs,
- 1:42:25Speaker 2: the DMs I get on the daily about the Bulldogs,
- 1:42:28Speaker 2: the number one concern is their goaltending. I don't have
- 1:42:30Speaker 2: a concern at all about their goaltending. Like I said,
- 1:42:33Speaker 2: I've said it before, Chase Petrova, their backup, reminds me
- 1:42:36Speaker 2: so much of Brett Brochu when he came into London.
- 1:42:38Speaker 2: Moves the exact same as him, like the same size.
- 1:42:41Speaker 2: So it's pretty easy there for that one. And Vilmer,
- 1:42:43Speaker 2: who's just a giant, the Great Wall of Sweden, um,
- 1:42:46Speaker 2: I feel like that's, you know, the duo that they
- 1:42:49Speaker 2: have and what Vilmer's done. I think this is huge
- 1:42:52Speaker 2: for him. And I think this is kind of going
- 1:42:54Speaker 2: to be the coming out party to see, hey, you
- 1:42:57Speaker 2: know what? Maybe this is the guy that Spencer Hyman
- 1:43:01Speaker 2: and staff truly believes in, not just staff, believe could
- 1:43:05Speaker 2: be the number one goal to undertake it in this
- 1:43:07Speaker 2: year's NHL draft. And he's certainly shown that this weekend.
- 1:43:10Speaker 2: Very intrigued to see the development throughout the year for Vilmer.
- 1:43:13Speaker 2: Very intrigued.
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: Absolutely, and he could have been Rookie of the Week
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: as well, but he got beat out by a Bulldogs
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: teammate in Aiden Kelly, who is quickly becoming Rookie of
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: the Year candidate, as fast as you can say it,
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: through two weeks of the Ontario Hockey League season. We'll
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: see if he and the Brantford Bulldogs can continue their
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: hot start going into Week 3. But Colin, let's get

- 1:43:59Speaker 1: for Butt Ends, you can do that as well for
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: sponsoring this segment here on the show. Colin, let's start
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: this one off here. My first stick tap of the
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: week is going to go to a player that I'm
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: very familiar with. with my ears calling, or with the
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: Niagara Ice Dogs, has been moved to London, now moved
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: to the Saginaw Spirit, and off to a fantastic start.
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: Brady Wasslin is tied for the league lead in points
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: for the Saginaw Spirit, and he's off to a very
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: hot start with his new team. Just got there a
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: few weeks ago, not the easiest of situations, but he's
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: been off to a great start. Four goals, four assists,
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: two points per game, flying out there with Dima Zilkin
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: and that team that the Saginaw has. right now, again,
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: not the greatest of weeks as far as where they
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: are in the standings, but I have a lot of
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: high hopes and optimism for this Saginaw spirit team. And
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: I think Brady Watson is going to be a big
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: part of that. I know he was disappointed about not
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: being drafted into the national hockey league in this last draft,
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: but you know, a guy that could have a great season.
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: He went to Montreal Canadians rookie camp, and maybe he's
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: a guy that gets drafted in his year plus one draft,
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: but he's committed as well to Boston university down the
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: road for his academics. So My stick tap of the
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: week on the player side goes to Brady Wass on
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: the Saginaw Spirit.
- 1:45:13Speaker 2: Absolutely. I mean, Brady's been great. That's a good one, Brandon.
- 1:45:17Speaker 2: My butt end stick tap player of the week in
- 1:45:21Speaker 2: between the pipes. Obviously, goalies stick together. The story that
- 1:45:26Speaker 2: is Brian Cook, and we talked about with Mike Stubbs,
- 1:45:30Speaker 2: starting off 2-0 like that out of the Knights, from
- 1:45:33Speaker 2: the middle of nowhere in there and then some. Um,
- 1:45:37Speaker 2: I'm going to go, I'm going to go Brian cook
- 1:45:38Speaker 2: when he's done two and oh, start the shots on
- 1:45:41Speaker 2: goal in the Windsor game. Second game of the season
- 1:45:44Speaker 2: like that.
- 1:45:45Speaker 3: I'm going Brian cook.
- 1:45:46Speaker 2: My, uh, player stick tap of the week sponsored by
- 1:45:50Speaker 2: about ends. Try it.
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:45:51Speaker 2: Great. I mean, they're great. Yeah.
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: Great stuff. And use our referral code, man. 10% off.
- 1:45:56Speaker 2: Hey, I once touched a 70 goal scorer stick in
- 1:45:59Speaker 2: the Ontario hockey league. Nick Lardis was a big butt
- 1:46:01Speaker 2: ends guy.
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: Yeah. There's so many colors. There's so many colors that
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: use it.
- 1:46:06Speaker 2: You'll score 70 in the 0 if you use it, kids.
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: Yeah. The NHLers are becoming more by the day that
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: use butt ends. So, again, our QR code is there
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: for the discount code. But, yeah, Brian Cook is calling
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: stick tap of the week. Colin, I've got one more,
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: and it's on the team side because we're obviously going
- 1:46:22Speaker 1: a little bit long here today with how great of
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: a conversation we had with Mike Stubbs. But I'm going
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: to give a shout out to the Sarnia Sting. Obviously,
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: what they were able to do. Okay.
- 1:46:31Speaker 2: I had it all teed up. I had it all
- 1:46:33Speaker 2: teed up. It was a cold November night on November 18th,
- 1:46:40Speaker 2: the week before the Ohio State Buckeyes demolished the team
- 1:46:44Speaker 2: up north at whatever house they play in that's not
- 1:46:47Speaker 2: very big anymore because they lost to Iowa. I got
- 1:46:50Speaker 2: to get that in. It was Matt Martin who scored
- 1:46:52Speaker 2: twice on that cold November night. Christmas lights were being
- 1:46:57Speaker 2: lit for the first weekend. It was called the nation's capital.
- 1:47:02Speaker 2: It was 6,888 days ago since a sting had a
- 1:47:07Speaker 2: stinger in Ottawa. Brandon, take it away.
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: I don't know if I can even say anything more
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: than that, but yeah, the Sardius sting have obviously had
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: a good, good start here. And I mean, what more
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: can you say? I mean, Alessandro Di Iorio is doing
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: a good job as the captain there, you know, wanted
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: to come back to this thing. We talked about it
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: earlier in the, in the episode, but, a three and
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: one start for the sting in that West division that
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: we all sort of expect to be Saginaw's for the taking,
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: but right now Sarnia is leading it and you got
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: to give them their respect there as well as the
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: Sue Greyhounds who are quietly three and one as well. So,
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: you know, as much as we want to talk about Saginaw,
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: you know, after a one, two and one start, I
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: expect them to continue to build up the conference, but
- 1:47:49Speaker 1: Sarnia and Sue, I think two of the more surprising
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: teams to start out the year in the West. And
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: you got to give them their props. And again, with Sarnia,
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: we're really, you know, trying to make the hive a
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: fun place to play again. And, and hopefully some, a
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: deep playoff run for a team that made it to
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: the Western conference finals, I believe four seasons ago now,
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: but you know, still looking for that first OHL championship appearance.
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: So hopefully things are on the horizon. Good things are
- 1:48:13Speaker 1: on the horizon for the sting, but they're stick. They're
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: the stick tap of the week for both Colin and
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: myself this week on the team side.
- 1:48:19Speaker 2: Well, 100% echo your statement Brandon I you know I
- 1:48:23Speaker 2: hope that next Month when I'm at the hive Either
- 1:48:26Speaker 2: where they are right now I Hope they're still there
- 1:48:29Speaker 2: upper end of the western Conference and you know it's
- 1:48:31Speaker 2: like hey Let's hug it out We're here you know
- 1:48:37Speaker 2: The movies Here And I feel like I can't wait
- 1:48:41Speaker 2: to be there. It's going to be, it's going to
- 1:48:42Speaker 2: be like one of those moments where I have the
- 1:48:44Speaker 2: tear in my eye, you know, like it over, it came,
- 1:48:47Speaker 2: it's happening. It's happening next month. I'll be there. So
- 1:48:51Speaker 2: it'll be fun. November, beginning of November, I'll be there.
- 1:48:54Speaker 2: So it'll be awesome. And I hope that I cannot wait.
- 1:48:58Speaker 2: I hope this, I hope the hive has the energy.
- 1:49:01Speaker 2: I remember going there before I said, first time meeting
- 1:49:03Speaker 2: Mike Stubbs. I hope, I hope it's a, it's a
- 1:49:07Speaker 2: strong sting team. and it's buzzing again like it has before.
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: So before we wrap up the episode, Colin, as we
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: do every week on the show here, Friday, four casters
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: in the Ontario Hockey League, Friday night face-off, myself improving
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: to 1-1 with the pick of the Saginaw Spirit over
- 1:49:24Speaker 1: the Niagara Ice Dogs, Greg Cowan, Gene Pereira, Ben Leeson,
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: Brock Otten, and Josh Brown, not a big deal, fan
- 1:49:30Speaker 1: of the show, all picked the Saginaw Spirit. And Ryan
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: Payette wanted to be the one guy to come off
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: the board there to try to get all of us
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: off guard. But unfortunately, the Ice Dogs fell. I believe
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: it was 5-3 to the Saginaw Spirit on the road,
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: although the Ice Dogs did pick up a nice road
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: victory to close out their Michigan trip in Flint. So
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: give them props on that. But yeah, improving to one
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: and one on the season. This week's Friday Night Faceoff, Colin,
- 1:49:53Speaker 1: is a East Division matchup between the Peterborough Peets traveling
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: to Kingston to play the Frontenacs. Which way do you
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: think I should lean here?
- 1:50:03Speaker 2: So, you know, this is very interesting and I honestly,
- 1:50:06Speaker 2: I feel like I would hope probably Josh Brown turns
- 1:50:09Speaker 2: the volume down as soon as I speak. But I
- 1:50:13Speaker 2: hope that I have an impact and a little bit
- 1:50:15Speaker 2: of an effect on his as well as a global
- 1:50:17Speaker 2: ambassador for the program. But Brandon, as your senior advisor here,
- 1:50:23Speaker 2: you know, I feel like on college game day, you know,
- 1:50:25Speaker 2: when they cut to the panel for the gambling odds,
- 1:50:28Speaker 2: but we're not actually gambling here, but you know what
- 1:50:30Speaker 2: I mean? Like when they cut, yeah, I like Texas
- 1:50:32Speaker 2: at 13 you know minus 13 that's what i feel
- 1:50:36Speaker 2: like here with these picks but want to know there's
- 1:50:39Speaker 2: a lot of pressure we're feeling good after week one
- 1:50:41Speaker 2: but we know there's room for improvement thought it was
- 1:50:44Speaker 2: an easy week one for myself to be honest and
- 1:50:47Speaker 2: now now it's tough to be an advisor here this
- 1:50:49Speaker 2: is hard peterborough plays the night before against the eriotters
- 1:50:54Speaker 2: who had a really good weekend they're coming off a
- 1:50:57Speaker 2: good weekend david eager off played well in net Things
- 1:51:02Speaker 2: are going well for the Otters right now. Things aren't
- 1:51:05Speaker 2: going well for the Peets. The Frontenacs, they're idle. Troy
- 1:51:10Speaker 2: Man and staff, they're at home in their Frontenac pajamas.
- 1:51:14Speaker 2: They got the popcorn ready. Maybe they got the sweet corn,
- 1:51:18Speaker 2: like the Halloween treats. Maybe they got the trick-or-treating going early.
- 1:51:25Speaker 2: They got their Halloween munchies ready in their Frontenac pajamas,
- 1:51:30Speaker 2: and they get to watch video. on the Peterborough Pete's
- 1:51:33Speaker 2: and they get to excel. You know, they get to get,
- 1:51:36Speaker 2: they get to start to hear that sweet Kingston Frontenac's
- 1:51:39Speaker 2: goal horn and the song start to play the Swedish anthem.
- 1:51:42Speaker 2: And you know, they're feeling good. They're feeling good in
- 1:51:46Speaker 2: the Pete's win this one over the Frontenac's I'm taking
- 1:51:50Speaker 2: the Pete's. I am taking the Pete's psych, the pajamas.
- 1:51:56Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:51:58Speaker 2: I'm sorry. Frontenac fans. That's just how we roll around here.
- 1:52:01Speaker 2: I think the Frontenacs have a... They have a weekend
- 1:52:04Speaker 2: where they bounce back after last weekend. I think the
- 1:52:07Speaker 2: Peets bounce back more. I think the Peets win this game.
- 1:52:11Speaker 2: I don't know the score.
- 1:52:12Speaker 3: I'm going to say.
- 1:52:13Speaker 2: You know what? 5-4. Peets win in overtime. It's a
- 1:52:17Speaker 2: stressful one, Brandon. But the Peets find a way to
- 1:52:20Speaker 2: overcome the Frontenacs because I think the Frontenacs desperately need
- 1:52:24Speaker 2: a sniper. And I think, hey, Ab Novotny says, boys...
- 1:52:29Speaker 2: Get on my back. We're playing on the primetime OHL
- 1:52:32Speaker 2: game on Friday night. I'm putting on a performance for
- 1:52:36Speaker 2: the extra eyes. Your MVP pick, Brandon. I hope I
- 1:52:40Speaker 2: sold this to you. You know what I mean? It's
- 1:52:43Speaker 2: all good in Kingsland.
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: You might have. I was really torn in this game.
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: I'm going to be honest with you.
- 1:52:49Speaker 2: Me too.
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: Again, after the weekend Kingston just had, they had a
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: pretty rough performance against Brantford, obviously. You know, giving up
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: a lot of goals. Troy Mann's your coach of the
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: year candidate still. You know what I mean? Like two
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: and three on the season. The Pete's are one and four.
- 1:53:04Speaker 2: You know, I just got to give.
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: Something's got to give with this matchup.
- 1:53:09Speaker 2: The Falcons won man against the Packers.
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: The Pete was going to give. I know the Pete's
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: play the night before. So maybe they have a little
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: bit of that game edge. They're playing at home against
- 1:53:19Speaker 1: the Ariados the night before. you know what? You sold
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: me on it. I'll go Peterborough Pete's and Adam Novotny
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: is my red Tilson award winner. I just, I think
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: that Peterborough has a bounce back performance in this game.
- 1:53:30Speaker 1: You know, I think that, uh, you know, Novotny continues
- 1:53:33Speaker 1: to carry the load there. Cooper Dennis, you know, might
- 1:53:36Speaker 1: have a nice performance. He's second on the team in
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: points right now, Kingston. I really like Kingston right now
- 1:53:42Speaker 1: as well. And again, you want them to bounce back
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: after that week that weekend they just had on the road. But, uh, yeah,
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: I'll go with the Peterborough Pete's here to, uh, Take
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: off and finally get in the win column and take
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: one over their East Division rival in the Kingston Frontenacs.
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: I'll say final score, 4-3 Peets. Maybe even overtime.
- 1:54:03Speaker 2: Hey, so we both have overtime. One goal game is
- 1:54:05Speaker 2: obviously 5-4. I have you at 4-3. I mean, let's
- 1:54:08Speaker 2: be honest. It's going to be a game. I think
- 1:54:10Speaker 2: something's got to give. Something's got to give. And I honestly,
- 1:54:14Speaker 2: I think like the Peet, this is, there's more pressure
- 1:54:17Speaker 2: on this weekend for Peterborough, in my opinion, than there
- 1:54:20Speaker 2: is Kingston. If Peterborough gets, loses to Erie on Thursday
- 1:54:24Speaker 2: night and then drop this game to Kingston, what is happening?
- 1:54:29Speaker 2: We're talking, I'm talking like you got to go on
- 1:54:31Speaker 2: a five game winning streak now to get back into it.
- 1:54:34Speaker 2: Or Novotny is a future golf storm one at night.
- 1:54:36Speaker 2: I'm just spitballing here, but you know what I mean?
- 1:54:39Speaker 2: Like maybe it's Sudbury Wolves if they had the picks, but.
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: Especially after losing a player as well this week. You
- 1:54:45Speaker 1: know what I mean? Like the Pete's need some positivity here.
- 1:54:48Speaker 2: Big time. If it doesn't go, we saw this song
- 1:54:50Speaker 2: and dance before. Something's got to give. There's more pressure
- 1:54:54Speaker 2: on Peterborough this weekend than there is Kingston.
- 1:54:57Speaker 1: Absolutely. So it's free on Flow Hockey's YouTube channel and
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: Flow Hockey itself. So you guys can check that. It'll
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: be on the OHL socials for free as well. Live streaming.
- 1:55:07Speaker 1: So Friday, October 2nd. peterborough pete's kingston front neck is
- 1:55:10Speaker 1: going to be a good one on friday night face
- 1:55:12Speaker 1: off colin sold me uh to change my pick from
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: kingston to peterborough so uh he's doing a good job
- 1:55:17Speaker 1: so far as a senior advisor through two weeks since
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: he i made a wrong pick on week one and
- 1:55:22Speaker 1: said you know what i need to make a change
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: here we gotta we we gotta we gotta get back
- 1:55:25Speaker 1: on track here yeah we had to open the checkbook
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: yeah so i got.
- 1:55:30Speaker 2: It i got a i got the uh red wing
- 1:55:32Speaker 2: maple syrup and i'm in i'm in.
- 1:55:35Speaker 1: Yep, Greg Cowan's leading it right now at 2-0, but
- 1:55:37Speaker 1: the rest of a lot of us are 1-1 and
- 1:55:39Speaker 1: Ryan Payette's coming out. Yeah, we're coming for Greg Cowan
- 1:55:44Speaker 1: and look forward to having him on the show.
- 1:55:45Speaker 2: Have you seen that armchair station wagon? Have you seen
- 1:55:47Speaker 2: that armchair station wagon, Greg? We're coming for you. We
- 1:55:52Speaker 2: got a two-seater.
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: Absolutely. All right, Colin, final thoughts. We're wrapping this one
- 1:55:57Speaker 1: up for a two-hour episode tonight with the great Mike Stubbs.
- 1:56:01Speaker 2: No, you know what? Final thoughts is great episode. It
- 1:56:03Speaker 2: always is great to talk to Mike. I think things
- 1:56:05Speaker 2: are going great here, Brandon. I think we're on a
- 1:56:07Speaker 2: two or to start. I think we're on an absolute
- 1:56:09Speaker 2: banger to start this. It's nice to get the support
- 1:56:12Speaker 2: from the listeners as always. And honestly, I know for
- 1:56:17Speaker 2: some of the listeners, there's been, it's a big change,
- 1:56:19Speaker 2: you know, but what Brandon, what you've done, I mean, we're,
- 1:56:22Speaker 2: we're flying and what you've done for the OHL and
- 1:56:27Speaker 2: 60 has been incredible and, and let's keep this thing going.
- 1:56:29Speaker 2: It's been a, it's been a blast. Like you say,
- 1:56:31Speaker 2: like here we are two hours later. Right. So it's
- 1:56:34Speaker 2: been great.
- 1:56:35Speaker 1: Brian Crawford, Mike Stubbs. It's a, it's been a good
- 1:56:37Speaker 1: list so far of guests. Hopefully you guys appreciate sort
- 1:56:39Speaker 1: of the new format of the show, having a guest
- 1:56:41Speaker 1: on most shows every week. And we'll see if we
- 1:56:43Speaker 1: can continue to, to bring you that moment.
- 1:56:45Speaker 2: Yeah. And let us know, let us know if there's
- 1:56:47Speaker 2: anyone from your team that you want to hear their
- 1:56:50Speaker 2: story shared here on the program. Let us know, let
- 1:56:54Speaker 2: us know on social media.
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: Yep, absolutely. So that's going to wrap it up for
