- 0:02No, be afraid.
- 0:06Be very afraid.
- 0:15Jon: That triangle guy needs to be bigger than that.
- 0:17Like he,
- 0:18Ryan: that
- 0:18Jon: like he's,
- 0:19Ryan: Okay.
- 0:22Jon: yeah.
- 0:23Okay.
- 0:23Sure.
- 0:23Like, I mean, I believe it if he had some freaking biceps or
- 0:27Ryan: you, you imagine how heavy that thing is.
- 0:29You see how big that thing is?
- 0:31Kearns: He's made
- 0:31Ryan: It's like, yeah, it's like
- 0:32Jon: his head Yeah.
- 0:35he looks like a puppy whose head is too big for his body, still like
- 0:40walking around like all like drooping he's not strong enough to hold his
- 0:44own head up, let alone carry that
- 0:46Kearns: the
- 0:46Jon: weapon.
- 0:47Kearns: that are on Instagram all the time?
- 0:50The lady pyramid heads.
- 0:53Ryan: No, I have not seen the lady pyramid.
- 0:56Kearns: ton of that.
- 0:56Ryan: I,
- 0:57Jon: I haven't seen Lady Pyramid head.
- 0:59Ryan: promoting the new movie, which ladies and gentlemen we are talking about.
- 1:02Welcome to Xenomania.
- 1:03We are talking about Silent Hill tonight.
- 1:05but I saw a commercial for like.
- 1:07a mom was taking their child to see Silent Hill, and she's dressed up like
- 1:11mini pyramid head, but it was all pink.
- 1:13I was like, oh, all right.
- 1:14That's pretty cool.
- 1:15It's not as dark, but I'm like, you're, you're taking your kid to Silent Hill?
- 1:19Like, like, no, no, not at the age of five or six.
- 1:26Kearns: Yeah.
- 1:26That
- 1:26Ryan: Viewer, viewer beware.
- 1:28Jon: don't know.
- 1:29I mean, we got there by about that age, didn't we?
- 1:32Ryan: was six when the first
- 1:34Jon: Look and look at how we turned out.
- 1:36Kearns: play at like six and it demented me.
- 1:39Uh,
- 1:40Ryan: you had such a different reaction.
- 1:42I watched Puppet Master and I was fine.
- 1:44Kearns: puppet master messed with me too.
- 1:47They were always like HBO reruns of Puppet Master, but Silent Hill, we
- 1:52gotta give it some of its flowers, guys.
- 1:54It does nail the dark atmosphere pretty well, even though over the
- 1:58two hour and five minute span of the movie, they do that score in
- 2:03and they kind of lean on it a bit.
- 2:06they do nail that dark atmosphere.
- 2:07You gotta admit that.
- 2:08And that is a hallmark trait of the Silent Hill franchise in the video games.
- 2:15Jon: They get, they get some good atmosphere.
- 2:16Yes.
- 2:17Ryan, how, much too
- 2:19Ryan: two hours
- 2:20Jon: long did you say this movie was?
- 2:21Ryan: have just been five minutes.
- 2:22Um, and in re in reality, it should have been an hour and 35 minutes.
- 2:27to piggyback on, it was great.
- 2:29The atmosphere was spot on.
- 2:31I'm playing the second game on the PS five again, and it's spot on with the original.
- 2:36So seeing these locations in the movie are cool, like the hospital,
- 2:41how the other world transitions.
- 2:44I haven't seen this movie in a long time for reasons that didn't
- 2:47like it because it's inspiration.
- 2:50do it incorrectly, but that the atmosphere, the music they do feature from
- 2:56Akira, Yama Yas, uh, from the first four games, all that music's from the game.
- 3:01So that was all cool.
- 3:02Like they borrowed the story.
- 3:05Kearns: We gotta look this up, but I think that guy did parasite eve,
- 3:08Ryan: Yes, he did.
- 3:10Yep.
- 3:10Kearns: That guy's a gem man.
- 3:11Ryan: Yep.
- 3:12Yeah.
- 3:12Parasite E is a gem.
- 3:14Thank you for
- 3:15Kearns: that, I mean, I remember jacking up the, uh, gangster's Paradise volume on
- 3:20my disc, man, and playing parasite eve.
- 3:23'cause I had a copy where the final boss fight, I would get to it then it would
- 3:27glitch out when the boss transformed.
- 3:29And I was just constantly trying to make my way through that.
- 3:32So I had like, lick the disc and try to make it work and I
- 3:36Ryan: that's, that's like playing Final Fantasy seven and get it to the last disc.
- 3:39And it's like skipping,
- 3:41Kearns: That would be a
- 3:42Ryan: like, that's why I mentioned it to you.
- 3:44That's your silent Hill like horror story right there.
- 3:47Kearns: Yeah, that would be rough, dude.
- 3:50Ryan: that one,
- 3:50Kearns: rough.
- 3:51Jon: I had that happen with dying late too, the last five minutes of
- 3:57the game where you get a different storyline depending on how you played.
- 4:01I'd get to the last cut scene and it would just stop,
- 4:07Ryan: When cyberpunk first came out, it wasn't, compatible with the PS four.
- 4:11It was only compatible with the PS five, which was scarce to say.
- 4:17I waited two years to finally play cyberpunk.
- 4:20When the PS five first came out, you had to go on walmart.com, you
- 4:24had to try to like, wait online.
- 4:26What?
- 4:27Kearns: Rolling.
- 4:28We're rolling back.
- 4:29Jon: go back.
- 4:29Ryan: happened?
- 4:31Jon: We gotta, we gotta roll back to that word,
- 4:33Ryan: scarce?
- 4:34Yeah.
- 4:35PS five was scarce.
- 4:38Kearns: Like scars scarred.
- 4:40Ryan: no, scarce, like, it was like scars defined.
- 4:44Kearns: I think we, we've gotta add one to lexicon, John.
- 4:46I think, I think we just been made
- 4:48Jon: Yep.
- 4:48Kearns: word.
- 4:49Jon: We do
- 4:50Ryan: They were scars.
- 4:51Kearns: Hey, scars.
- 4:52Ryan: Scar.
- 4:53Scar,
- 4:53Kearns: is dedicated to Ryan's
- 4:55Ryan: scars.
- 4:58Kearns: The scarce.
- 4:59Ryan: Alright.
- 5:00Jon: scarce.
- 5:00Kearns: this pod is, is that when that happens, I love it so much.
- 5:04'cause John and I'll both go like this every time.
- 5:09Ryan: listen.
- 5:09I have a, I have a long list of words that are coming out to the open.
- 5:13Now.
- 5:13Kearns: Yep.
- 5:14Ryan: Just, just embrace.
- 5:16But
- 5:17Kearns: make him up.
- 5:18Jon: I, I.
- 5:19Ryan: to be or not to
- 5:20Jon: I have to tell you that it's actually, one of my favorite games is to
- 5:24find the words that people mispronounce.
- 5:27Like my mom has some gems that she can't pronounce, like cement, cement.
- 5:35It's so, or if, you call her on saying cement, she'll focus and
- 5:41it'll come out like she's like a Texas oil man, and she'll say cement
- 5:48Kearns: I have, two family members that say prostrate when
- 5:50they're talking about a prostate.
- 5:52that's always made me laugh and I'm just like, I wonder if they knew
- 5:55what it really means, like laid out.
- 5:59But anyway, silent Hill back to it.
- 6:04so we get,
- 6:05Jon: back to it.
- 6:06Kearns: the storyline for the movie.
- 6:08'cause Ryan did point out that it's, it's inspired like linked but inspired.
- 6:14Sure.
- 6:14Storyline of the movie is, rose to Silva.
- 6:17Is looking for her kid ran away.
- 6:21What's the kid's, the real kid's name again?
- 6:24Ryan: Alyssa?
- 6:25Kearns: Alyssa's the
- 6:26Jon: In.
- 6:27Kearns: though, isn't she?
- 6:28Ryan: Yeah,
- 6:29Jon: Yes.
- 6:29Sharon is the name of the kid she thinks she's looking for.
- 6:33Kearns: And so she,
- 6:34Ryan: Sure.
- 6:35Kearns: off over past like creepy Officer Gucci and whatnot, and she makes it to
- 6:39Silent Hill and, and she drags, Sybil Bennett her, who might be the best part
- 6:47of the movie, to be honest with you.
- 6:50Ryan: Ooh,
- 6:52Kearns: it's,
- 6:52Ryan: I, I have to, have to agree with it.
- 6:55Jon: Lori Holden's acting in this is, I mean, some of it's the acting, some
- 7:00of it is they saddle her with the worst stereotypical video game lines ever.
- 7:08Like,
- 7:08Ryan: It could
- 7:09Jon: just, she's just walking through Silent Hill and, and says
- 7:13Something terrible happened here.
- 7:15Ryan: No, it didn't.
- 7:16Jon: Like,
- 7:17Ryan: it's just grim for
- 7:18Jon: really like that, that, that,
- 7:22Ryan: Clean water.
- 7:23Jon: like, nineties, video game exposition, you know, where
- 7:26they don't have it quite as clear as you want it to be.
- 7:30And so you kind of have to ex, you know, be really more specific
- 7:35about how awful it is, and.
- 7:37Kearns: the first line Barry says, I think one of his first lines in Resident Evil
- 7:43Ryan knows what I'm getting at right away.
- 7:45Ryan: am trying to remember exactly how he says it.
- 7:47Kearns: a, there's a bot.
- 7:48There's, they walk into the mansion and he leans down.
- 7:50There's a puddle and he touches it, and he goes, it's blood
- 7:54Ryan: Yep.
- 7:54Kearns: like that.
- 7:55It's the best, worst voice acting of all time in that game.
- 7:58I love that game.
- 8:00Ryan: I, I played the beginning just to hear him say it over and over again.
- 8:04'cause like the best line It's blood.
- 8:06Kearns: was like groundbreaking.
- 8:07'cause it was live action people beginning Cinematics too.
- 8:11It wasn't a video game.
- 8:12They
- 8:12Ryan: Yep.
- 8:12Kearns: action stuff.
- 8:13It kind of reminded me like how Mortal Kombat did that as well.
- 8:17But anyway,
- 8:18Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 8:19Kearns: these guys aren't a fans of
- 8:20Jon: So
- 8:21Kearns: at all?
- 8:22Ryan: I listen.
- 8:24Yeah.
- 8:25Jon: I like Laurie Holden.
- 8:26She's, she's good.
- 8:27Ryan: Yes.
- 8:28Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 8:29Ryan: dead.
- 8:30Kearns: she was good in Walking Dead.
- 8:33Jon: She played her role well in Walking Dead.
- 8:35Her character got very hateable for periods of time and she did
- 8:39a really good job with that.
- 8:40Ryan: season three.
- 8:41Yeah.
- 8:42She, I hated her.
- 8:44Jon: Yeah, there was a stretch in there.
- 8:45She was pretty awful.
- 8:47I think we should just sort of rewind a little bit to the reason they actually
- 8:51go to Silent Hill and the horrible parenting decision that leads to it.
- 8:58So Sharon, the kid is having like nightmares and like sleepwalking hypnotic
- 9:03things and she, is drawn to Silent Hill.
- 9:07So instead of some form of therapy and maybe trying to get to the root of
- 9:12it that way, mom essentially kidnaps her and takes her to Silent Hill.
- 9:16Ryan: it all begins, just to get the viewers in.
- 9:19Kearns: Right.
- 9:20Get, we're
- 9:20Ryan: Yeah.
- 9:21Kearns: do some immersion therapy.
- 9:23Sure.
- 9:24Jon: Let, let's go find out what's going on in Silent Hill.
- 9:27Uh, I don't think you needed to do that.
- 9:31Kearns: let alone to like West Virginia or wherever Silent Hill is.
- 9:36Jon: Well, West Virginia.
- 9:37No.
- 9:37Ryan: nice,
- 9:38Jon: you.
- 9:39Ryan: homage to the game because that's how each game starts.
- 9:41The first one, kidnapping, second one, you
- 9:45Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 9:46Ryan: of disappearance, third one, kidnapping,
- 9:49Kearns: Yeah.
- 9:50Ryan: you know?
- 9:50Kearns: hard with the noir in the beginning of it.
- 9:53With
- 9:53Ryan: God.
- 9:53Yeah.
- 9:54Kearns: that.
- 9:54Yeah,
- 9:55Ryan: It's that mystery.
- 9:56Like I, you know, you think about it, you play the second game and it opens and.
- 10:01you're on the bridge, the connection to Silent Hill, and you kinda see the whole
- 10:05town for what it is and like the light.
- 10:08And then once you go in, you're entering the fog and know, it gives you, again,
- 10:13as we're talking about the atmosphere, it gives you that from when she's
- 10:17taken Sharon to Silent Hill, which, Chris played excellently by Sean Bean.
- 10:23Sean Bean.
- 10:24Kearns: yeah.
- 10:25Sean
- 10:25Ryan: he refused.
- 10:26Yeah, he refuses, rose from doing all this.
- 10:29And he's really unaware of it until like, I think it's like a last minute.
- 10:33Find out when he's like, don't,
- 10:36Jon: Yeah.
- 10:39Yeah.
- 10:39He realizes that, she's gone and where she's going and like in the
- 10:44like ultimate kind of like, I'm gonna stop you from doing anything.
- 10:48He cancels all their credit cards.
- 10:50Kearns: move.
- 10:51Ryan: Home alone.
- 10:52Move.
- 10:53Kearns: clever move, uh, doesn't stop her.
- 10:57Well, silent Hill doesn't let her stop.
- 10:59That's basically the
- 11:00Ryan: No.
- 11:00Kearns: this movie, is
- 11:01Jon: No,
- 11:01Kearns: what
- 11:02Jon: no.
- 11:04Yeah, it, it, it's almost like Rose is as drawn to Silent Hill as Sharon is.
- 11:11Kearns: I
- 11:11Ryan: Yeah,
- 11:13Kearns: so.
- 11:14Ryan: mean, that's the process of like the actual character as it, the
- 11:21story progresses and reveals that,
- 11:24Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 11:24Ryan: mean, in the games, like they're all sinners.
- 11:27Um, with Rose, I mean, it's a, it's 50 50.
- 11:31I mean, I have my opinion, I
- 11:32Jon: You guys wanna play a game,
- 11:35Ryan: You said it's twisted today.
- 11:37It's like,
- 11:37Kearns: it
- 11:38Ryan: is it body parts
- 11:39Kearns: We're screwed, Ryan.
- 11:43Jon: It's a game we've played.
- 11:45It's a keep cut it, it's a keep cut.
- 11:48Ryan: listen to my
- 11:49Jon: It is.
- 11:49However,
- 11:50Kearns: Dare
- 11:51Ryan: films.
- 11:53Jon: oh.
- 11:55I am going beyond your advice tonight.
- 11:59We are playing keeper cut.
- 12:01But you are keeping six of these heaping piles.
- 12:06And you can only cut two.
- 12:09You can only cut
- 12:11Kearns: I am
- 12:11Jon: two.
- 12:12Ryan: flipping everything.
- 12:14Kearns: I've never seen House of the
- 12:15Ryan: Wait, you've never seen House of the Dead.
- 12:18It's, it's,
- 12:19Kearns: of the Dead.
- 12:20Ryan: mean, bad,
- 12:22Jon: so bad.
- 12:23Ryan: on what you have on the list, it could be like the best
- 12:26out of all these movies though.
- 12:28That's like the, 50 50.
- 12:30'cause yeah, this isn't a favorite of mine, but I, I'm keeping this one.
- 12:35'cause you know what?
- 12:36I'm gonna keep this one.
- 12:38Jon: Remember, you can only cut two.
- 12:40Kearns: us with that.
- 12:41I feel like you're priming us with that, we're gonna end up having to cut
- 12:44the last two because we're too scared.
- 12:49Uh, yeah, evil John.
- 12:52All right.
- 12:52I'm gonna keep it based on the fact that I have no idea either
- 12:55way and the cover's kind of cool.
- 12:57Ryan: it's a cool
- 12:58Jon: I actually kind of, I kind of like the second one.
- 13:04The first one's not very good,
- 13:07Ryan: I mean,
- 13:07Jon: but
- 13:08Ryan: the first one have the, that first person seen in it, right?
- 13:11Jon: yeah, I think so.
- 13:13Yeah.
- 13:15All right.
- 13:16Movie number two.
- 13:17Kearns: Oh,
- 13:17Ryan: Is that the first one?
- 13:19Kearns: oh, I've seen this.
- 13:21Ryan: I've,
- 13:21Jon: That is the first one.
- 13:23Ryan: uh,
- 13:24Kearns: Ben Kinsley Lee.
- 13:29Jon: What did you do, Ben?
- 13:31Kearns: um, all the leotards and the tight leather and he was like, I signed me up.
- 13:36I'm tired.
- 13:37This Gandhi nonsense.
- 13:41He
- 13:41Jon: I need some cash.
- 13:42Kearns: did.
- 13:42Um, I mean this movie's awesome, but Enders, um,
- 13:46Ryan: under game.
- 13:47Yep.
- 13:47Kearns: stuff.
- 13:48Like he's in some interesting roles throughout his career
- 13:51Ryan: Lucky number seven.
- 13:52Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 13:53Hey, he's a really good actor.
- 13:54Kearns: Uh, he was in Ironman three.
- 13:58Ryan: That that's,
- 13:58Kearns: yeah, I forget.
- 13:59He's part of the MCU.
- 14:00Jon: Oh yeah.
- 14:01He was, wasn't.
- 14:02Ryan: He should have been the Mandarin.
- 14:04He should have been the Mandarin.
- 14:05They set it up so great.
- 14:07And then we got Guy Pierce,
- 14:10Kearns: yeah, they made him into like this actor thing.
- 14:14Um, I'm gonna,
- 14:17Jon: Wait a minute.
- 14:17Hold on.
- 14:18He should have been the what?
- 14:21Ryan: with the Mandarin and the 10 rings.
- 14:24You gotta know that story from,
- 14:26Jon: Okay.
- 14:26Okay.
- 14:27Okay.
- 14:28Okay.
- 14:29I lost you for a second there.
- 14:30I thought, I thought we had another Ryan.
- 14:32Kearns: Rodriguez is in this.
- 14:34Dear God, what have we done People, um, I'm gonna keep it obviously.
- 14:39Jon: This,
- 14:39Ryan: all, these are all movies based on video games.
- 14:42Of course.
- 14:42Uh, but the question is, is it all horror related or is it everything?
- 14:49Jon: they are all horror related video game adaptations.
- 14:53Ryan: blood rate.
- 14:54Kearns: get,
- 14:54Ryan: Yeah,
- 14:55Kearns: cut out of just spite
- 15:00Ryan: I was thinking about rewatching the first one.
- 15:02Jon: Alright.
- 15:02Wait, current Kern, you're, you're keeping this or cutting this?
- 15:06Kearns: 'cause I, there's some duds coming up.
- 15:08Jon: All right.
- 15:08Kearns: it.
- 15:10Ryan: I'm keeping it too.
- 15:11I do like blood rate.
- 15:12This
- 15:12Jon: Okay.
- 15:13Ryan: it's somewhat true.
- 15:15Somewhat.
- 15:17Kearns: I remember dumping like $20 rolls a quarters into a House of the Dead
- 15:23all those years ago.
- 15:24Okay, here we go.
- 15:25Blood rain.
- 15:27Jon: All right.
- 15:28Movie number three,
- 15:31alone in the Dock.
- 15:35Kearns: Ah, look at
- 15:37Jon: Wow.
- 15:39Ryan: It's, I they that no justice for the game series.
- 15:45Not even for the original.
- 15:46Kearns: because I have a pretty good idea of at least two of the ones coming up.
- 15:51Steven Dorf is in this.
- 15:52I'm keeping it just based on the fact that Christian Slater, Tara Reed
- 15:56and Stephen Dorf are in this movie.
- 15:59Oh, man,
- 16:04Jon: So Kerns is kept all three and you've cut one.
- 16:08You only have one cut left.
- 16:12Will it be used on
- 16:13Kearns: no, I love this movie.
- 16:14Sorry.
- 16:16movie kicks ass.
- 16:17That first person scene when it switches to first person perspective and he is
- 16:21cruising through, murdering everybody.
- 16:23No, I'm definitely keeping to him.
- 16:26Ryan: There could be worse films on this.
- 16:27I'll take two.
- 16:29It's not my favorite.
- 16:30The first person scene is cool with the music rocking.
- 16:33I do love that scene.
- 16:35Kearns: saw this movie.
- 16:36This was a hot box movie too, so I probably saw this movie like a
- 16:38hundred times and this came out right before Doom three or, or after.
- 16:43It was like
- 16:43Ryan: Yes.
- 16:44Kearns: 'cause they had the new ips in it and stuff that were
- 16:47just the same as the video game.
- 16:51I gotta do
- 16:51Ryan: Do
- 16:52Kearns: I've gotta
- 16:53Jon: All right.
- 16:54Kearns: two now.
- 16:55Now
- 16:56Ryan: four.
- 16:57Jon: You well?
- 16:58No.
- 16:58We had, there's, there's four left.
- 17:00You have to cut two of the last four
- 17:05next.
- 17:07Ryan: Hmm.
- 17:08Kearns: cut.
- 17:12Jon: Ooh, a cut.
- 17:13Kearns: movie was as forgettable as Dead Rising, the video game,
- 17:19Ryan: Yeah.
- 17:20Jon: I wanted to love the video games so much just because of the premise
- 17:25Ryan: no.
- 17:25The is if the camera, like taking the photos and stuff and it's a,
- 17:30Kearns: streaming free June 25th.
- 17:32Yeah, they were really, we're looking to break in the cash with this one.
- 17:37Yeah.
- 17:38Jon: Crackle.
- 17:39Ryan: I'll keep it, I'll give it a shot.
- 17:41Kearns: Aw.
- 17:42Ryan: It's a pity.
- 17:42It's a pity.
- 17:43Like, but I'll give it, I do like the first game.
- 17:45I don't like the timer on it.
- 17:47if you do mess up the whole game fails.
- 17:50Basically, like reality, you can either save the people or like you have fun.
- 18:02Jon: All right, next.
- 18:03Ryan: I am cutting it.
- 18:05Cutting it, cutting it.
- 18:08Jon: Oh.
- 18:08Kearns: though, because you know there's two after this.
- 18:11Ryan: I'll keep the two after.
- 18:13Kearns: something terrible.
- 18:14This movie's awful.
- 18:16Ryan: the two after.
- 18:17Kearns: is it?
- 18:18This is the one with like souped up steroid wesker too.
- 18:21And
- 18:21Ryan: Yep.
- 18:21Kearns: they're like soup fighting.
- 18:23Ryan: Yep.
- 18:25This is the one in the rain.
- 18:27Kearns: I should not have cut
- 18:30yet.
- 18:31I have to cut this too.
- 18:32This is the P. This is the worst disappointment in a
- 18:36series of disappointments.
- 18:38This one takes the cake.
- 18:42Jon: You guys are actually gonna be happy with how this played out.
- 18:46Kearns: Oh,
- 18:46Jon: so disappointed.
- 18:49Next, next video game adaptation.
- 18:53Ryan: Yeah.
- 18:53Bring it to me.
- 18:54Kearns: one episode.
- 18:55I'm cool with it.
- 18:56Ryan: In the first season.
- 18:57Yes.
- 18:58The second season I haven't seen, but I know they, fall flat on it.
- 19:03Kearns: We stopped watching.
- 19:05Ryan: Uh, after,
- 19:06Kearns: that we do that.
- 19:07Jon: I,
- 19:08Ryan: it's, after I heard how they opened it.
- 19:10Jon: I never started,
- 19:11Ryan: started, you should watch the first season.
- 19:13Kearns: but it also,
- 19:14Jon: I never started.
- 19:17This was always sort of the lesser of two games for me.
- 19:21Ryan: did you, uh, play the game when it first came out on BS three?
- 19:26Jon: No, I played the game maybe like three or so years ago.
- 19:31Ryan: no resonation, uh, no clicking.
- 19:35Jon: No.
- 19:37Ryan: Wow.
- 19:37I,
- 19:37Jon: No, it just wasn't it, it didn't hit me.
- 19:42It didn't hit for me.
- 19:43It was
- 19:44Ryan: So
- 19:45Kearns: minute tutorial you have to do in the beginning, which sucks.
- 19:49Ryan: action packed.
- 19:50Jon: well,
- 19:51Ryan: with that.
- 19:52Kearns: I was like, is this metal gear solid or is this a zombie?
- 19:54What am I doing here?
- 19:57Jon: yeah, there it, there was that.
- 20:00It was also like the not open world like I want, I would've liked that
- 20:06and I think it came out about the same time as days gone and I love
- 20:11days gone and this was not days gone.
- 20:16Ryan: Did it come out?
- 20:16No.
- 20:17Days Gone.
- 20:18Came out a couple years later after the remaster.
- 20:23Because they had it on PS three at the end, and then they re re-released
- 20:27it for the PS four, and then two years later they released, days Gone.
- 20:30'cause I pre-ordered, days gone.
- 20:32I was very excited for that game.
- 20:34Jon: Listen, listen.
- 20:35in the way that I play video games, two years is about the same time,
- 20:39Ryan: I'm in that boat too.
- 20:40It takes like two months for me to finish a game.
- 20:43I understand
- 20:44Kearns: Now I just play games that
- 20:45Jon: months.
- 20:46Kearns: and I just buy like one thing every two, three years I think I've been
- 20:50Ryan: our graders.
- 20:52Kearns: Raiders, night Rain, and Claire I'll, I'll play, uh, Claire
- 20:55obscure Expedition 33 soon because it's just such a beautiful story.
- 21:00But other than that, I've no interest in buying anything.
- 21:03Ryan: I am stuck with the rock people, my friend in that game because I gave
- 21:07too much power to a specific character that something bad will happen to
- 21:12them supposedly as it was spoiled.
- 21:16I'm very not happy.
- 21:17I put all points in that character.
- 21:19That's all I'm gonna say.
- 21:21Kearns: Well, I think all characters are an experience, parallel, don't they?
- 21:29Ryan: Yes.
- 21:31Kearns: I think you're
- 21:31Ryan: I, I hope, I dunno, I'm in the rock level right now.
- 21:35That's another game.
- 21:36You should give a try, John.
- 21:37It's a fun game too.
- 21:38A clear obscure
- 21:39Jon: is it?
- 21:42Oh yeah, it's on my list.
- 21:44Ryan: for writing.
- 21:45Kearns: It's beautiful.
- 21:47Jon: on my list, like TV shows, video games, and TV shows sort of end up the
- 21:51same way except I finished video games.
- 21:54Ryan: Yeah.
- 21:55That is good.
- 21:56Kearns: The suspense is killing me, by the way.
- 21:57Gotta know what's coming up next.
- 21:59'cause I
- 21:59Ryan: It's fallout.
- 22:00Fallout.
- 22:02Kearns: Oh hell
- 22:03Jon: Nope.
- 22:04Kearns: hell yes.
- 22:05You right though.
- 22:05This was me and you're a dick.
- 22:07'cause you were trying to get us to cut this.
- 22:09This is the masterpiece.
- 22:11Jon: I was desperately, desperately trying to get you
- 22:15guys to cut the last of us and or
- 22:17Kearns: the
- 22:17Jon: Sylvania.
- 22:18Ryan: Goodnight everybody.
- 22:20Jon: I so badly wanted that.
- 22:23Ryan: Knock turn.
- 22:23Kearns: Yeah, no
- 22:24Ryan: Knock.
- 22:24Turn's really good.
- 22:26Kearns: I was like, what the hell is going on?
- 22:28Netflix is pumping out a freaking gem with this.
- 22:32Ryan: I want to see where they lead for the second season.
- 22:35'cause there's a rumor they're gonna, yeah, because like it ended, but
- 22:38there's so much more they can cover with Richter and that whole story.
- 22:43what was a car doing during that time?
- 22:45That's another you gotta, I know you're not to animate
- 22:47John, but Sylvania, so good.
- 22:51Kearns: call it Sylvania and anime.
- 22:52It doesn't follow any anime tropes.
- 22:54It's just animated
- 22:56Ryan: Animated.
- 22:57Yeah,
- 22:57Kearns: style, I suppose, but
- 23:01Jon: You guys, saw the number of anime movies that are in my collection.
- 23:04What was it, five, eight?
- 23:06Something like that?
- 23:07Ryan: a, Kara should be what
- 23:08Kearns: Oh,
- 23:09Ryan: you
- 23:09Jon: No.
- 23:09Ryan: a Kara
- 23:11Jon: No.
- 23:12I don't even, I don't even know.
- 23:13I don't even remember if they were all actually anime.
- 23:17Like I feel like some of 'em were just, no,
- 23:19Kearns: That's what we're dealing with
- 23:20Jon: no.
- 23:21No, I don't have that either.
- 23:23Ryan: It the last rainforest.
- 23:25Kearns: by Robin Williams on there.
- 23:27Damn.
- 23:29That movie goes hard in the
- 23:30Jon: Nope.
- 23:30Kearns: last 35 minutes.
- 23:32I forget the name of the villain, but he is like a smog monster.
- 23:34He is like all sludgy.
- 23:36He's like the dude who tries to kill Captain Planet.
- 23:38That's the guy.
- 23:40He's the best.
- 23:43That's the best.
- 23:44Um, sorry, my cat is either seeing ghosts or has, has like
- 23:50the craziest, uh, zoomies ever.
- 23:54Ryan: It's the other world.
- 23:55Kearns: She's chasing her tail.
- 23:57Ryan: other world's coming for you.
- 23:58Kearns: this one's a crack head man.
- 24:00She's been up, she's been, yeah, she's like staring all around the
- 24:03room, like something's flying, but there's nothing flying.
- 24:06This is, this is
- 24:08Jon: Oh yeah.
- 24:09Kearns: Yep.
- 24:10Jon: The kitty freak out.
- 24:11Kearns: Yeah.
- 24:12She's like exploring everywhere.
- 24:13She's out of her
- 24:14Ryan: catnip?
- 24:15much catnip?
- 24:16Kearns: was, that was a fun
- 24:17Jon: I.
- 24:17Kearns: cut because we didn't get screwed over, so thank you.
- 24:19Ryan: No, for once.
- 24:21I don't like, went exactly the way I wanted it.
- 24:26Jon: I am gonna have to up the ante.
- 24:27Ryan: can, you could cut.
- 24:29Cut one.
- 24:29Keep seven.
- 24:32Kearns: Yeah,
- 24:33Jon: Yeah, that's, see, I should have made it cut six, keep two.
- 24:40Ryan: Oh, that.
- 24:41So I recommended the keep three, cut five to him.
- 24:46So I kind of
- 24:47Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 24:48Ryan: one.
- 24:48Kearns: John, if you do that, I'm calling the cops.
- 24:51Ryan: for it.
- 24:52Not the
- 24:53Jon: Well, I was gonna originally just make them all really bad adaptation
- 24:58movies and I was like, wait a minute, let's see if I can get 'em to cut.
- 25:02Let me see if I can get 'em to cut things that they actually liked.
- 25:05Ryan: on there.
- 25:06All right.
- 25:06Kearns: a terrible movie.
- 25:07Ryan: Stack.
- 25:08Kearns: That is a terrible movie.
- 25:10Jon: It's horror adjacent.
- 25:11Kearns: suppose if even it's an action movie, is it not?
- 25:15I.
- 25:16Ryan: Action horror
- 25:17Jon: Yeah.
- 25:18Kearns: like
- 25:18Ryan: side by,
- 25:19Jon: Yeah, you can.
- 25:20Kearns: VER movies?
- 25:22Jon: Yeah.
- 25:22Mm-hmm.
- 25:24Kearns: just 'cause there's monsters.
- 25:25They're
- 25:26Jon: Yeah.
- 25:26Kearns: that are kung fu fighting.
- 25:27It's an action movie.
- 25:29Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 25:30People who call Godzilla horror are
- 25:32Ryan: tell
- 25:32Jon: wrong too.
- 25:33Kearns: the argument, oh, I like this.
- 25:35Now we're gonna get spicy and we're never gonna talk about Silent Hill ever again.
- 25:38Godzilla, minus one was trying, at the very least to lean heavily
- 25:44into the horror genre, especially with the, the pre mutated version.
- 25:49he's like T-Rex them from Jurassic Park in that scene.
- 25:53They were really trying to make that as scary as possible
- 25:56Jon: Yeah.
- 25:56Kearns: a Godzilla movie.
- 25:57Yeah.
- 25:59Jon: Yeah.
- 26:01Godzilla is an animal attack genre movie.
- 26:04Kearns: genre.
- 26:04Ryan: Yeah,
- 26:05Kearns: What about the one host?
- 26:06Did you ever see the Korean movie host?
- 26:08Where that one Is that horror?
- 26:11No.
- 26:13Ne ne Okay.
- 26:15Jon: Animal attack.
- 26:16Kearns: Jaws.
- 26:21Jon: I keep jaws in my animal attack section, but,
- 26:26Ryan: is under
- 26:26Jon: uh, jaws hits a lot of the horror beats,
- 26:30Kearns: you because you're, you keep just getting it right, so, okay.
- 26:34It's
- 26:34Ryan: Like,
- 26:35Kearns: animal attack.
- 26:36is Kaiju then though?
- 26:37Is kaiju a a port?
- 26:39It's like a sub facet of animal attack.
- 26:41Jon: yeah, yeah,
- 26:43Kearns: fun now.
- 26:45Ryan: So yeah, king con's, animal attack.
- 26:48Alright.
- 26:49Kearns: Okay's.
- 26:51Jon: Black sheep is animal attacks.
- 26:53Ryan: How do you get into Werewolf's though?
- 26:56Kearns: Yeah.
- 26:57Jon: OLS are hard because they're.
- 27:00Kearns: Is
- 27:00Jon: They're just naturally horror.
- 27:02Ryan: Yes.
- 27:03Kearns: Yeah.
- 27:03It's a different than just a
- 27:04Jon: Yeah, yeah.
- 27:06That they, yeah.
- 27:07And the, the difference in the animal attack and the horror is like a fine line.
- 27:13You know it when you see it.
- 27:14It's like the, Supreme Court ruling on adult movies and censorship.
- 27:21You can't define it, you just know it when you see it.
- 27:26Oh, I think that predated Harry Flint.
- 27:29Uh, Harry Flint.
- 27:30Larry Flint.
- 27:30Now you have me calling the wrong name.
- 27:35Kearns: Harry
- 27:35Ryan: Larry.
- 27:35Kearns: the name of one of those, those obscene movies we're talking about,
- 27:41Jon: Yeah.
- 27:41Ryan: on Fletch, but it's just Harry Flint.
- 27:44Kearns: Harry.
- 27:46Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 27:46Ryan: Oh God.
- 27:47Kearns: like the most educational 10 minutes of my day.
- 27:49Thank you for that.
- 27:50That was pretty good.
- 27:51Uh, we do have to get back to Silent Hill though, or else it's false advertising,
- 27:55Ryan: Yeah.
- 27:55Jon: to Silent Hill.
- 27:56Kearns: Um, so
- 27:58Jon: Fake news.
- 27:59Kearns: we're in Silent Hill and
- 28:01Ryan: Yep,
- 28:02Kearns: is now looking around with, with very skeptical Sybil cop Bennett
- 28:06looking around for Sharon and they
- 28:08Ryan: yep.
- 28:08Kearns: notice things are not okay here.
- 28:11So we're not gonna do a plot walkthrough with this one 'cause
- 28:14uh, it'll drive you guys crazy.
- 28:16but we can kind of like jump to from part to part if a little bit.
- 28:20Ryan: Yeah.
- 28:20Kearns: the beginning
- 28:21Jon: Yeah.
- 28:22I,
- 28:22Kearns: to like the middle-ish of the movie.
- 28:25Jon: yeah, they realize that something's not right when they
- 28:28try to get back to the car and the cop bike and there's no more road.
- 28:34Kearns: It's just gone,
- 28:35Ryan: It disappears.
- 28:37It's like
- 28:37Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 28:39And mean.
- 28:40Meanwhile, Sean Bean and another cop are wandering around an un smoky,
- 28:46silent hill trying to find them.
- 28:48Kearns: the, the first upside down
- 28:52Ryan: Yep.
- 28:52Kearns: Hill itself does a good job with that.
- 28:54I was thinking about that when we were getting ready for the pod and
- 28:57I was like, Hmm, do I bring this
- 28:59Ryan: Yeah.
- 28:59Kearns: But it's true.
- 28:59'cause Stranger Things is so fresh.
- 29:01It is very much so like the upside down.
- 29:03Like they're in another dimension and obviously that predates all
- 29:07Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 29:07Kearns: King loves to do that, but it's very on the nose, like,
- 29:11Ryan: It's interesting because they don't cover that in the video
- 29:14games, how it's two other worlds.
- 29:16Because once you're in Silent Hill, you kind of get that idea
- 29:19as like you can go in, but once you're in, you're not getting out.
- 29:23It's like that.
- 29:25It's a version of purgatory, like a dark version of purgatory
- 29:28where you can get harmed.
- 29:30mean though, I feel like with purgatory though, you, you're
- 29:33like walking aimlessly all over.
- 29:35Yeah, you're definitely safe with this.
- 29:36You're not safe.
- 29:38Kearns: purgatory, being cleansed,
- 29:41Ryan: I wouldn't wanna be cleansed.
- 29:43Kearns: Purgatory.
- 29:44You're like, close, but you're not quite ready.
- 29:46So we're gonna, clean you out for a little while, and you're
- 29:48Ryan: Say
- 29:49Kearns: that.
- 29:49So,
- 29:49Ryan: it's a horrible cleanse.
- 29:51Kearns: getting rid of your grief or you're offloading emotions or past deeds,
- 29:54silent Hill actually could be a purgatory.
- 29:57It's just not what you think of when you think of purgatory.
- 30:00'cause the
- 30:01Ryan: But
- 30:01Kearns: is horrific.
- 30:04Ryan: yes, uh, I definitely agree.
- 30:06But it's interesting to know that as all this is going on, there's one
- 30:10person who's wandering these streets, outcast, ridden over negligence for
- 30:16her daughter, and that's Dahlia, like she's survived this whole thing.
- 30:21And just to add onto it, we got like a cult going on in the background.
- 30:25it's the order in the video games.
- 30:28I think it's called the order in the movies too.
- 30:30I don't remember them giving 'em their name, they, you know, they're,
- 30:35Kearns: Ella's haircut, though.
- 30:36Ryan: my God.
- 30:37I saw that and I was like, what the hell's going on
- 30:40Kearns: her.
- 30:41Ryan: across the, the clown.
- 30:42Kearns: Yeah, babe.
- 30:43So sideshow Bob, maybe.
- 30:44I don't know.
- 30:45But yeah, she's easy to hate.
- 30:47she does the cult culty, uh, roll.
- 30:49Well, 'cause you gotta hate the culty.
- 30:51Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 30:51Kearns: hating her.
- 30:52It's
- 30:52Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 30:53Kearns: also, they throw Dalia in there.
- 30:56for you not to know that she's like the original, it's like
- 31:00sort of like the original sinner, original persecuted as well.
- 31:04I it, that makes the ending hit pretty well.
- 31:08Nope.
- 31:08John's gonna agree to disagree on that one.
- 31:13Jon: I mean, I don't think anything in this necessarily hit really well.
- 31:18But I mean, yeah, she makes the ending better.
- 31:22Ryan: it's the music, the atmosphere, like the, the creatures.
- 31:27Like
- 31:28Jon: I mean,
- 31:28Ryan: really gets you as a fan to like wanna watch the film.
- 31:32But then you're watching the story and you're like,
- 31:34Jon: mm-hmm.
- 31:34Ryan: did we do here?
- 31:36Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 31:37Well, and I think Ryan said early on about cutting two hours from this movie,
- 31:44you don't have to, as much as I like Sean Bean, you could have cut him entirely out
- 31:49and save that for a whole other movie.
- 31:52Kearns: do.
- 31:52I thought they were trying to set up.
- 31:54The second one was Sean Bean coming in.
- 31:56Kind of
- 31:57Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 31:58Ryan: yeah.
- 31:58Kearns: no, I,
- 32:00Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 32:00Kearns: like this one didn't make money either.
- 32:02Jon: No,
- 32:02Kearns: a decent haul that
- 32:05Jon: they made a sequel.
- 32:06I don't remember the sequel at all, but they did make a sequel.
- 32:10Ryan: It's more like three, it with two, which you can't do it because
- 32:17each game is all about a certain person's guilt, a certain person's
- 32:21sin and what they've been through.
- 32:23And it's all different.
- 32:25And that's why like the first game is so unique.
- 32:28'cause it's this man who's, um, it was like basically Sean Be's
- 32:33character was supposed to be Harry.
- 32:35From the first game, they make him Chris in this movie, and
- 32:38he's supposed to be fighting his daughter, not his wife and daughter.
- 32:42So, I mean, they're borrowing stuff like we've been saying,
- 32:45they're borrowing stuff.
- 32:45But it just, it doesn't, uh, I, I don't think it works.
- 32:50It, it works in one way for being a different interpretation, but trying
- 32:53to stay true to the story, which a lot of monitoring, uh, video game, film
- 32:58and television adaptations have done.
- 33:00works better because you can attract more people, but changing a little
- 33:04things here and there, it's all right as long as it goes with the story.
- 33:07This, I, I feel like they, if you're getting Sean Bean, put him as the
- 33:11main actor, put him in Silent Hill, like, don't let him be like on the
- 33:16side with, like, Kim Coates is a great actor, and I like that buildup.
- 33:20But again, saying that you can include that in the town,
- 33:24give it more of a mystique.
- 33:26Have him, or even for Rose, meet other characters in the town who are
- 33:30going through similar experiences.
- 33:32Because these characters like go after the protagonist in the game,
- 33:36and you don't really see that.
- 33:37You just see the cult.
- 33:38You see Dahlia and the
- 33:40Jon: Hmm
- 33:41Ryan: but there's so much more to
- 33:43Jon: mm-hmm.
- 33:43Ryan: town, ironically.
- 33:47Jon: Now, that said, if they had made this movie focused on Sean
- 33:50Bean's, Chris character, you wouldn't get Kern's favorite line.
- 33:55Kearns: God in the eyes of a child, probably the best
- 33:58part of this movie, to be
- 34:00Jon: because
- 34:00Kearns: It's a banger line.
- 34:01Jon: yeah.
- 34:02Father is God, in the eyes of a child, doesn't work as well.
- 34:05Kearns: all pagan at heart.
- 34:07We, worship the mother goddess.
- 34:09It's true.
- 34:10Deep down in ourselves.
- 34:12All of us, Anglican people, folk.
- 34:15It's in our DNA.
- 34:18Did I say Anglican?
- 34:18I meant
- 34:19Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 34:20Ryan: it is.
- 34:20All right.
- 34:21Lexicon.
- 34:22Kearns: Cut it
- 34:22Jon: You did, ah,
- 34:23Kearns: Anglican is at least a real
- 34:25Jon: the Kerns dictionary
- 34:28Ryan: It is scarce.
- 34:30Kearns: but
- 34:31Jon: scarred.
- 34:32Kearns: movie, moves from the murky middle, where we do get the scaries.
- 34:36We get the cult, we do get pyramid head.
- 34:38We get some, some pretty metal scenes.
- 34:40The ripping of the skin.
- 34:42Ryan: Yeah, that
- 34:43Jon: I,
- 34:43Ryan: cool.
- 34:44Jon: well, the, Anna death scene could have been really special.
- 34:50But the CGI is so bad.
- 34:52Like if you watch, you can see her skin rippling bef when he is just holding
- 34:58her and it does fall into that period of time, like in the mid like aughts where
- 35:05Kearns: 2006.
- 35:07Jon: had gaps that it like, that are just weird to see now.
- 35:11Like that, was also a period where fire, CGI effects were awful.
- 35:16Kearns: try to go back and watch Independence Day?
- 35:19Oof.
- 35:20The fire and stuff hits because they didn't do
- 35:22Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 35:23Kearns: for that, but the UFO scenes and
- 35:25Jon: Yeah.
- 35:26Ryan: It looks 10 times better in a theater.
- 35:28I will say that 10 times better.
- 35:33Jon: So back in the day of flea markets and bootleg VHS tapes, I
- 35:40got a copy of Independence Day.
- 35:43That didn't have the CGI in it, it just had like the outlines
- 35:48of where the CGI was gonna be.
- 35:50Ryan: Yep.
- 35:50Jon: It was.
- 35:51Kearns: one of those for Wolverine.
- 35:52Dead, uh, no, uh,
- 35:54Ryan: Expand origins.
- 35:55Kearns: X-Men origins.
- 35:56Ryan: Yep.
- 35:57Kearns: the entire outline of the nuclear silo or like the nuclear cooling tower was
- 36:02Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 36:02Kearns: in yet.
- 36:03Yeah.
- 36:04Jon: It's amazing how, many of those actually hit those,
- 36:09bootleg crappy VHS tapes.
- 36:11I only got that, and the copy of Cool Runnings I bought was just static.
- 36:17Kearns: That
- 36:17Jon: I was so disappointed.
- 36:19Kearns: hell.
- 36:20That's a mean thing to do.
- 36:21I
- 36:22Jon: Yeah.
- 36:23Kearns: I
- 36:23Jon: You sir,
- 36:24Kearns: punishment for
- 36:25Jon: can go straight.
- 36:27Kearns: from cool runnings a pool leg.
- 36:30Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 36:30Ryan: not right though.
- 36:31Static.
- 36:31Kearns: take your medicine on that, but that other dude
- 36:34sinned way worse than you did.
- 36:37Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 36:39Yeah.
- 36:40I mean, listen, I was making slightly above minimum wage working over
- 36:44a night in a department store.
- 36:46Kearns: criticizing him.
- 36:49Jon: I had to acquire things, how I could acquire them.
- 36:52Kearns: my scrambler box too, but I, I remember pirating stuff being
- 36:55like, I can't wait till I have money so I can actually pay for things.
- 36:58Like, it's not like I didn't want to, I just wasn't
- 37:00Jon: Yeah,
- 37:00Kearns: I wasn't going to not
- 37:01Jon: yeah,
- 37:02Kearns: 'cause I was poor.
- 37:05Jon: yeah.
- 37:06Like this house is proof that once I got money, I was gonna buy things.
- 37:10Kearns: my friend.
- 37:12So, you know, always a funny aside from the, little research into the characters,
- 37:16'cause I forgot all the actors' names and stuff except for Sean Bean.
- 37:19going into the movie I was like, huh, take a look at all the people cast as the
- 37:24nurses for when she's going through the little, gauntlet of nurses with knives.
- 37:28It's basically the Dallas Cowboys, cheerleaders.
- 37:31Like you
- 37:32Ryan: It is.
- 37:32Kearns: head shots, they all fit the archetype.
- 37:34It's so funny.
- 37:36It's like a bunch of hot girls basically.
- 37:39And I mean, when
- 37:40Ryan: Yeah.
- 37:40Kearns: the nurses look like, obviously that makes sense.
- 37:42They needed that type of person.
- 37:44But you just look at it and you're
- 37:45Ryan: Oh yeah.
- 37:46Kearns: every
- 37:46Jon: Yeah.
- 37:47Oh yeah.
- 37:47Yeah.
- 37:48Kearns: Candy or a Sandy.
- 37:50Ryan: But that's what, you know, brings the viewer in, is that the attractiveness?
- 37:54Right.
- 37:54And then they turn around, their skin's pale, they got bandages all
- 37:59over their face, the knives coming out.
- 38:01They're all distorted.
- 38:02Kearns: Those
- 38:03Ryan: Just,
- 38:03Kearns: too.
- 38:04Ryan: oh, I,
- 38:05Kearns: ones of those.
- 38:06Ryan: nurse is one of my favorite outfits of any like.
- 38:09Horror video game because it's just that creepy aesthetic.
- 38:12It's the same thing like,
- 38:13Kearns: it.
- 38:14Ryan: well, uh, I wasn't, I wasn't going anywhere else.
- 38:17It's like the whole mannequin thing too, like, you know,
- 38:21Kearns: Eh,
- 38:21Ryan: well, have you seen the mannequins with two legs?
- 38:24Kearns: Kim.
- 38:24Catrell.
- 38:25I get it.
- 38:26I get it.
- 38:28We
- 38:28Ryan: She was not, she wasn't
- 38:29Kearns: to CI am
- 38:29Ryan: in there.
- 38:30Jon: Yeah.
- 38:32That was a weird period of time where they, kind of sexualized
- 38:35a mannequin, wasn't it?
- 38:37Kearns: period of time.
- 38:38Charlie,
- 38:39Jon: that was a little weird.
- 38:40Kearns: down through the mall.
- 38:41He will stop and wave and say hello to every mannequin.
- 38:45Everyone now it's just like a game he plays.
- 38:47But
- 38:47Jon: fair.
- 38:47Kearns: he was little, he was like
- 38:49Ryan: you need to show him mannequin now.
- 38:51Just show mannequin.
- 38:52Kearns: I
- 38:53Ryan: He'll be like, wait,
- 38:54Kearns: anything but just Charlie's toys at this point.
- 38:58Ryan: they come alive at night, Charlie.
- 38:59It's okay.
- 39:01Sorry.
- 39:04Jon: And you can fall in love with it.
- 39:05Kearns: of the most banger songs ever play at the ending credits weekend.
- 39:14Jon: we should spin off Xenomania into like those crappy eighties comedies.
- 39:21Ryan: good
- 39:21Kearns: Dundee two.
- 39:24Ryan: that's, oh, okay.
- 39:26I was gonna say that's not, it's not as bad,
- 39:29Kearns: Just the scene in the bar where he recruits all the gang members
- 39:32and they're like, you're Australian.
- 39:33We like you.
- 39:34Jon: And, we could talk about how dated they all are, like
- 39:37Ryan: oh
- 39:38Jon: man.
- 39:38Ryan: Yep.
- 39:39I,
- 39:39Kearns: gonna put this in our back pockets for later.
- 39:40This is a, this is a gold mine, uh, back to the movie.
- 39:44Let's get to the, climax, if you will, and then,
- 39:49Ryan: if you will.
- 39:50Kearns: more to explore.
- 39:51You guys hated it.
- 39:53Jon: It's a, it's a, it's a painful
- 39:55Kearns: is.
- 39:55There's a little homage to Evil Dead in there, but
- 39:58Jon: More ways than one.
- 39:59Kearns: tree Vines in this one.
- 40:01Ryan: I mean,
- 40:01Jon: Yeah.
- 40:02I think I'd take the tree vines over the barbed wire.
- 40:05Kearns: that done to her or
- 40:07Ryan: yeah.
- 40:07Kearns: tortured because she sucked.
- 40:10like, it,
- 40:10Jon: Yeah.
- 40:11Kearns: was pretty,
- 40:11Jon: Yeah.
- 40:11She sucked.
- 40:12Kearns: heavy in the paint with some of the punishments because that's a big,
- 40:15core tenet of the film is these people are being punished for being shitty people.
- 40:20Ryan: so basically the order gets what's coming to them because they
- 40:24falsely sacrifice Alyssa because of something that happened to her that
- 40:28she didn't have any control over.
- 40:30And that's what Silent Hill does, is Silent Hill will grab you
- 40:33by the jugular and rip it out.
- 40:35It's not like resin of, or it's not alone in the dark where
- 40:39it's these night creatures.
- 40:42It's not even phantasmagoria and you're fighting ghosts.
- 40:45All right?
- 40:46This is like, this is like, oh man, I love but it goes right from the
- 40:51throat and Silent Hill is, it's a dark game and they feature that right?
- 40:55But the ending where Christella gets destroyed by the barbed
- 40:59wire is a satisfying death.
- 41:01It is a satisfying death in any horror film we've seen.
- 41:05I'll be real.
- 41:06The only thing that gave me a tear was the alligator
- 41:09Jon: I think
- 41:09Ryan: That, that I shed a tear for that.
- 41:15Jon: yeah, rest in peace, alligator.
- 41:20Kearns: All alligators are heroes After having watched and reviewed
- 41:22alligator with you guys and watching the scene where he goes to the party
- 41:27and hunts down his foes like a G, but I
- 41:33Jon: That alligator is the best.
- 41:35So before we tell people what we think of the movie, do you want to hear
- 41:39what a few other people thought of it?
- 41:41Kearns: I mean,
- 41:42Jon: Okay.
- 41:44I have a five star, wasn't as hard to find as I thought it would be.
- 41:48Kearns: movie.
- 41:49Jon: Five stars.
- 41:51Ryan: I'm going to, I'm jumping on
- 41:52Jon: Five stars.
- 41:53Ryan: This is not a five star.
- 41:54Like usually when you're like, uh, yeah.
- 41:56Kearns: I
- 41:57Ryan: Yeah.
- 41:57Kearns: stars until, unless it's like one of the greatest of all time.
- 41:59That's what Five Stars is reserved for.
- 42:01Or the Blue Star.
- 42:02Remember
- 42:02Jon: Well
- 42:03Ryan: no, we're still doing the Blue Star.
- 42:05Jon: clear.
- 42:07Yeah, clearly this person believes that this is one of
- 42:10the best movies of all time.
- 42:12I love the Silent Hill movie.
- 42:14It gives you the perfect mix of horror, vibes and mystery that keeps you hooked.
- 42:20Silent Hill is one of my favorite horror movies.
- 42:23It delivers chilling, horror vibes mixed with an eerie mystery that
- 42:28pulls you in from start to finish.
- 42:31If you enjoy atmosphere and suspense as much as scares.
- 42:35This is the perfect choice.
- 42:37Kearns: about how there's a lot of noir involved in this and stuff,
- 42:40Ryan: Yep.
- 42:41Kearns: is gravitated toward that.
- 42:43Whereas you guys are like, well, I mean I can't pigeonhole you.
- 42:45You guys are film fans and students of film and movie lovers in general, but
- 42:51for this, you guys don't like it because it falls flat on the horror for you
- 42:54and it's got a bunch of other stuff.
- 42:56The, I'm not saying that this person is correct in the review, but I
- 42:59get why they would say five star.
- 43:03Ryan: And then I'll, if they watch this, I'll suggest to watch
- 43:06a better noir film and watch Chinatown and watch that instead and
- 43:11Kearns: mean, you're
- 43:11Ryan: a real noir film.
- 43:12Kearns: one of the best ones.
- 43:14Ryan: Falcon.
- 43:15Jon: I mean, yeah, I, yeah, I mean, I mean, I mean we're talking sort of unfair
- 43:20Ryan: I,
- 43:21Jon: comparison there.
- 43:22Kearns: it is.
- 43:23Ryan: I, it's one of my favorite films.
- 43:26That script is, a script is immaculate, but I'm just saying if
- 43:30you want noir, Madam Watch Chinatown.
- 43:34Kearns: that.
- 43:34Can we call you out on that real quick?
- 43:35Do you have to
- 43:36Ryan: What
- 43:37Kearns: Do you
- 43:37Ryan: noir?
- 43:38Kearns: Are we gonna have some al
- 43:40Ryan: It's, it's, it's La Noir Noir.
- 43:43Kearns: Just be American
- 43:46Ryan: It's no.
- 43:49Kearns: Noir.
- 43:50I don't.
- 43:50I wanna talk about noir anymore.
- 43:55Jon: Noer,
- 43:56Ryan: Oh, don't say no.
- 43:57Jon: um,
- 43:58Ryan: Go.
- 43:59Kearns: Noir,
- 44:00Ryan: la.
- 44:00No,
- 44:00Kearns: noir.
- 44:03Jon: Noer.
- 44:04One star, remarkably free of anything remotely scary.
- 44:10This ghost story relies on heaps of style to cover its quite thin plot
- 44:15until the ion culminates in a gruesome but fantastically un thrilling climax.
- 44:22The game must certainly be better than this.
- 44:27Ryan: it is.
- 44:28Kearns: so
- 44:28Ryan: Play Silent Hill.
- 44:29Two on PS five.
- 44:30Kearns: it was genre altering.
- 44:32just to, touch on that for the fans real quick.
- 44:34Silent Hill took what Resident Evil started, and I think
- 44:37they were in production around the same time, weren't they?
- 44:39Ryan: Yes.
- 44:39Kearns: Hill came out out after, but it did better.
- 44:43Whereas Resident Evil was more actiony, you almost had a, a
- 44:46stutter step start to Silent Hill.
- 44:48'cause it wasn't actiony, you weren't meant to be fighting everything you
- 44:50were meant to get the scared outta you.
- 44:52there's a game called Clock Tower, which also did a
- 44:54Ryan: Yes.
- 44:55Kearns: with that.
- 44:56Ryan: Yep.
- 44:56Kearns: that was cool.
- 44:57He was coming by with the scissors and stuff, but it, the game was genre
- 45:01altering and I, believe that like the Game Resident Evil to Village kind
- 45:05of leans heavily on the cool Silent Hill vibes more than it does resident
- 45:10evil vibes for a lot of its success.
- 45:13Ryan: Eight or four
- 45:15Kearns: Village
- 45:16Ryan: Village.
- 45:17Okay.
- 45:17Eight.
- 45:17Okay.
- 45:18Kearns: for
- 45:18Ryan: I,
- 45:18Kearns: an action game.
- 45:19Ryan: I always think of four as the village.
- 45:21'cause there's a village in that one and
- 45:23Kearns: 'cause
- 45:23Ryan: people,
- 45:24Kearns: the time.
- 45:25Gotcha.
- 45:25Ryan: compare it.
- 45:26No, I agree with you.
- 45:27Kearns: roll up on a merchant and stuff.
- 45:29That's just randomly there.
- 45:30Yeah.
- 45:30No, that's not the one.
- 45:32I like four though.
- 45:32But it's not the Village, um, different, they're, they
- 45:37Ryan: Yeah.
- 45:38Kearns: in different genres.
- 45:39Ryan: I agree with you.
- 45:40Kearns: yeah, just to get off my high horse.
- 45:42I think silent Hil, the game is outstanding.
- 45:45Like one of the best of all time.
- 45:47Ryan: the different thing is,
- 45:49Jon: And I have,
- 45:50Ryan: I was gonna say, the only
- 45:51Jon: go ahead.
- 45:51Ryan: is, is it puts you in a fog and it's a mystery.
- 45:54Like you could be walking down the street and hear the flapping of one of the
- 45:57creatures or the creatures moaning and it won't pop up onto you until last minute.
- 46:03Kearns: it's cool.
- 46:04Ryan: like, all right, so the biggest thing from
- 46:07Kearns: walking and stuff and that
- 46:09Ryan: true.
- 46:10Yep,
- 46:10Jon: And the static, which I feel like they, I feel like they under
- 46:14use the static in the movie.
- 46:16Ryan: the game.
- 46:16Kearns: think about that.
- 46:17Ryan: It's annoying in the game.
- 46:20Jon: I, oh, I love the static in the movie.
- 46:23Like,
- 46:23Ryan: Yep.
- 46:24Jon: know, something's out there, but you don't know where it is like that.
- 46:28they could have done that a lot more.
- 46:30Ryan: them, including the bird as a reference too.
- 46:32'cause that's included in the first game.
- 46:35And I think the third game.
- 46:36Third game, definitely with the canary.
- 46:38So, uh, but the static though.
- 46:41Kearns: right?
- 46:41That's like the whole thing.
- 46:43Ryan: Yep.
- 46:45Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 46:45Kearns: in mind the entire, before
- 46:47Jon: I have one more review for you.
- 46:48Kearns: in mind everybody, don't forget that
- 46:50Jon: Okay.
- 46:50Kearns: place on top of a burning mine.
- 46:53That's like, which is a reference
- 46:55Jon: A burning coal mine,
- 46:56Kearns: America, is it?
- 46:57I think it's a reference to the one in Siberia that's
- 46:59Ryan: So
- 47:00Kearns: for like forever.
- 47:01Ryan: yes.
- 47:02Yep.
- 47:02Jon: probably.
- 47:03Yeah.
- 47:04Wasn't there a Simpsons episode with a coal fire burning under a town too?
- 47:09Ryan: the endless, uh, burning the tire, the tire tower in the town, the tire
- 47:15Jon: The tire fire.
- 47:16That's what, yeah.
- 47:16The tire fire.
- 47:18Yeah.
- 47:19Yeah.
- 47:19Mm-hmm.
- 47:22Kearns: It's true.
- 47:22But
- 47:22Ryan: They just add a good old CTUs.
- 47:26Jon: ynk.
- 47:26Ryan: those tires.
- 47:27Jon: All right.
- 47:28One more.
- 47:29And the ones in the haves were hard to find also.
- 47:33Half star.
- 47:35Worst movie that I have ever seen.
- 47:39A. Avoid at all costs.
- 47:43Ryan: I,
- 47:44Jon: Now the see, but that's ultimately for me, that's my problem with Silent
- 47:50Hill is I don't like it enough to put it up here, but I don't hate
- 47:54it enough to put it at the bottom.
- 47:56Kearns: like
- 47:56Jon: Like this wouldn't even,
- 47:58Ryan: yes.
- 47:59Jon: yeah.
- 47:59Yeah.
- 48:00This wouldn't even crack by probably bottom 100 movies.
- 48:08I don't even think it would be close.
- 48:10Kearns: dead
- 48:11Jon: just, it's just like a, it's just just a
- 48:15Kearns: but it
- 48:16Jon: mid-level movie.
- 48:17It's, it's so,
- 48:18Kearns: to not be, which is why we, that's why we're pissed.
- 48:21Yeah.
- 48:22Jon: yeah.
- 48:22Yeah, that's the frustration.
- 48:24You have RHA Mitchell at like the right about her Lost Peak.
- 48:29You have Sean Bean, you have Lori Holden, who's kind of up and cuy at that point.
- 48:34Kearns: of the Rings era.
- 48:35Sean Bean.
- 48:36Right.
- 48:36We're talking
- 48:37Ryan: yep.
- 48:37Kearns: was in this
- 48:38Jon: Yeah, this is like cashing in on Lord of the Rings,
- 48:42Ryan: say he doesn't die in this film?
- 48:44It's the one of the few films he does not die in.
- 48:46Kearns: That's,
- 48:47Ryan: about that.
- 48:48Kearns: this, the Martian, what else?
- 48:51Ryan: only two movies dies in everything else.
- 48:54You see Sean Bead, you know he's gonna die.
- 48:56Kearns: Mm-hmm.
- 48:59Um, was that the end of the review or, was
- 49:03Jon: yep.
- 49:03That's the whole review.
- 49:05Worst movie that I've ever seen.
- 49:06Avoid at all costs,
- 49:08Kearns: folding in dark alleys and you guys should be okay.
- 49:11Jon: I think I just telegraphed where I stand with this movie,
- 49:14Kearns: Okay.
- 49:15Jon: a two and a half out of five.
- 49:16It's a two, like it's a mid movie.
- 49:20Ryan: I,
- 49:20Jon: It's mid.
- 49:21Ryan: I'd give it a two, two out of five.
- 49:24It's again, it's two hours too long.
- 49:27Um, just, you know,
- 49:30Kearns: 'cause he is sick.
- 49:32Ryan: not grumpy 'cause I'm sick, I'm
- 49:33Jon: It, it,
- 49:34Ryan: they had such a great concept.
- 49:36You had Sean Bean, you could have done the first game
- 49:38appropriately and didn't, messed up.
- 49:43Jon: it's Sean being too long
- 49:46Ryan: there.
- 49:46Jon: is the problem.
- 49:47Ryan: I, I, no, there's never too much Sean being and with Kim Coats.
- 49:51Kearns: that like that
- 49:51Ryan: Oh,
- 49:52Kearns: time that they waste with Sean Bean, 'cause he really
- 49:54doesn't need to be in this movie, but Sean Bean, so they put him in
- 49:57Jon: He does, he doesn't give you much.
- 49:59he just establishes that they're in a different dimension and you know,
- 50:04a little bit of the backstory on Sharon, but it's all stuff that they
- 50:07could have gotten to, in other ways.
- 50:10Kearns: in a weird way.
- 50:10And that's another thing.
- 50:12So I think where
- 50:13Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 50:14Kearns: comes in is that he knows what this could have been, and he
- 50:17feels like they effed it up so badly because they didn't take the time
- 50:21to truly understand the material.
- 50:22And if they did damn them twice because they messed it up anyway because
- 50:26they had a terrible execution of it.
- 50:29Ryan: Yep.
- 50:30Kearns: this could have been a trilogy.
- 50:31It could have been an excellent trilogy.
- 50:32They could probably still do it.
- 50:34Well, let's see if they do.
- 50:37Yeah,
- 50:37Jon: I mean, they are,
- 50:38Kearns: off.
- 50:39Ryan: there's.
- 50:40Kearns: could
- 50:40Jon: a new one coming.
- 50:40Kearns: from like the beginning and start fresh instead of trying to
- 50:43tack on, that would be a good idea.
- 50:45You,
- 50:45Ryan: There's hope they're starting from the
- 50:47Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 50:48Ryan: because the second game is the most popular.
- 50:50It's recently come out, again for the PS five.
- 50:53So they're gonna follow that story.
- 50:55and then from there, I mean the world's the oyster.
- 50:59I mean, right now they just came out with Silent Hill f which
- 51:02is in the sixties of Japan.
- 51:04So it's showing how other world is affecting the whole world, which
- 51:10is pretty interesting concepts.
- 51:13Yeah.
- 51:13But the
- 51:15Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 51:16Ryan: as they're expanding on this Silent Hill universe now, the
- 51:19creatures in Japan don't really go after you as the main protagonist.
- 51:24They're out there, they're doing other things.
- 51:26So like there's a video with one of 'em clawing at a door trying
- 51:30to go after that person in there, and then you'll walk up to them.
- 51:34It won't respond to you because it's so focused trying to tear that door down.
- 51:38For that person.
- 51:39Kearns: it's set on that person 'cause it's part of their torment,
- 51:43Ryan: I, yep.
- 51:45Kearns: kind of thing.
- 51:46That's neat.
- 51:47Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 51:47Kearns: I didn't get a chance
- 51:48Jon: I,
- 51:48Kearns: my stars.
- 51:49Jon: I would,
- 51:50Ryan: Oh my bad.
- 51:50Jon: yeah.
- 51:51No, go ahead.
- 51:52Kearns: about the movie so differently 'cause I do, I don't, I don't, um, slam
- 51:56it as hard, but I do give it a 2.5.
- 51:59That's where it falls.
- 52:00That's where it belongs.
- 52:01It's not a three even,
- 52:02Jon: Yeah.
- 52:03Kearns: five.
- 52:03Jon: It's.
- 52:04I would be willing to give it a half point more if it was a half hour shorter.
- 52:08I think Ryan would give it a whole point shorter.
- 52:11If it was two hours shorter,
- 52:13Ryan: stars.
- 52:13I'm sticking with two stars on this one.
- 52:15Kearns: Alright,
- 52:16Jon: it'd be a three out of five to Ryan if they cut two hours.
- 52:19Ryan: Wham, bam.
- 52:20Thank you ma'am.
- 52:21Just gets the end.
- 52:22Kearns: there it is.
- 52:26Jon: But to, revisit the new one, I would say, I think my hope for it being
- 52:32potentially good is they've gotten better at making video game movies.
- 52:40If, you notice that keeper cut is pretty much all in this same time
- 52:46period until Sylvanian the last of us.
- 52:51Ryan: of Dead was Big.
- 52:52Doom was big.
- 52:54I'm trying to think if
- 52:55Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 52:55Ryan: besides Resident Evil, was there anything else that they were,
- 52:58they had, IM Mortal Ko, little like computer series going on at that time
- 53:02too with like Michael J. White some big names too, and that like they were
- 53:08trying but there wasn't an audience.
- 53:10But now we have an audience and that's
- 53:12Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 53:14Well, and you could say that there wasn't an audience because they
- 53:19weren't doing it well, I think these movies always would've been successful
- 53:23if you were making them well.
- 53:24Kearns: was like, well, I mean good air quotes.
- 53:26That movie holds up to me and I don't care.
- 53:29Goro the Puppet is still the man, like that movie's, the
- 53:32soundtrack and everything.
- 53:33I don't listen to that kind of music that went so hard.
- 53:35Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 53:36Kearns: was great, executed perfectly for the time period.
- 53:38Whatever people can argue, I don't care.
- 53:40That's my standpoint.
- 53:40Ryan: No, it,
- 53:41Kearns: that movie was a great video game adaptation.
- 53:45Fighter two
- 53:46Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 53:47Kearns: live action was not.
- 53:49Ryan: John Clark,
- 53:50Kearns: the animated movie is fantastic.
- 53:52If you haven't
- 53:52Ryan: I thank you.
- 53:53Thank you for mentioning that the animated movie is excellent.
- 53:55Is on my list.
- 53:57Kearns: I have the director's cut my friend, Ooh, bought it in the Virgin
- 54:02Islands, brought it back up here.
- 54:03My friends were like, what?
- 54:05Ryan: is this?
- 54:06The holy grail.
- 54:07Kearns: blood everywhere, yeah, man.
- 54:10so yeah, that's Silent Hill everybody.
- 54:13We, are lukewarm on it.
- 54:14We hope you watch it.
- 54:16Ryan: Yes.
- 54:17Give it, give
- 54:17Jon: Lukewarm.
- 54:18Ryan: Give it a shot.
- 54:19You might like it.
- 54:20And, uh, before we get into our top fives, I'm shocked no one
- 54:23mentioned it, especially you, John.
- 54:25Today's a special day for one of our directors,
- 54:29Jon: it's,
- 54:30Ryan: John Carpenter.
- 54:31Happy
- 54:31Jon: it's,
- 54:32Ryan: Carpenter.
- 54:32Kearns: happy
- 54:33Ryan: It is his, it is his birthday today and we're gonna
- 54:36Jon: I mean,
- 54:37Ryan: but gotta wish him a happy birthday.
- 54:41Jon: it's okay.
- 54:42I've been later.
- 54:44Ryan: Top fives this week, gentlemen are for me, top five
- 54:47video game adaptations that I love.
- 54:51we're going all over the place with it 'cause video games are video games.
- 54:54As you guys know, I love video games.
- 54:56I love a great adaptation.
- 54:58for Silent Hill, so to say, as we discussed tonight,
- 55:01but still give it a shot.
- 55:02we're gonna start off though with my number five.
- 55:05Kerns is very familiar with this.
- 55:06John.
- 55:07I recommend it if you got like to 19 minutes to watch a couple of them.
- 55:12And that's secret level.
- 55:13Kearns: Oh
- 55:13Ryan: level, it's so good.
- 55:16Um, love, death, and robots very inspired, different stories.
- 55:20Uh, highly recommend the Pac-Man episode for you, Sifu or even Armored Core
- 55:26War Hammer, even the Mega Man one, which is five minutes hits the spot.
- 55:31It's not two hours, but it's five minutes.
- 55:33You know, just like, it shows how these creators love these video games
- 55:40and they'll either do a little short that from the game lore or something
- 55:46that's inspired like the Pacman one.
- 55:49I, love the Pacman one.
- 55:50I, can talk endlessly about it.
- 55:51And John, I highly recommend you watch in the Pac Mail one 'cause
- 55:55it's up your alley, how it's designed, which leads to number four.
- 55:59big fan of this game, franchisees came out, it's called Splinter Cell,
- 56:03and they recently have a animated show on Netflix called Death Watch.
- 56:07I got to finish it recently.
- 56:08it's basically Sam Fisher.
- 56:10He's a retired field agent for the former third echelon, which is
- 56:15like C-I-A-N-S-A underground stuff.
- 56:18They do like espionage and a lot of, tactical and in the dark stuff.
- 56:23And he kind of gets pulled out he's worn, he's tired.
- 56:28There's a lot that's been going on.
- 56:29It's a sequel from the other games and there's been five or six games
- 56:33after that, so he kinda gets thrown back in and it's a really good watch.
- 56:38Leaves Schreiber is the biggest name out of it.
- 56:40He plays Sam Fisher.
- 56:42He does a killer job and it's only eight episodes.
- 56:45Highly recommend it's on Netflix.
- 56:47And that leads to number three.
- 56:50Love the Game, love the show, and it's cyberpunk edge.
- 56:53Runners can talk endlessly about this, about a kid named David Martinez, who
- 56:58lives in a city called Knight City.
- 57:00Which is basically California years after technology tech's over.
- 57:04And a lot of these characters, including David, a lot of, upgrades to them.
- 57:09We can say electronic upgrades, and they're half machine, half human.
- 57:15And very emotional.
- 57:17Shows how this kid who has nothing goes to the top and how you can
- 57:24lose it, like in a blink of an eye and it's very heart wrenching.
- 57:29which leads to number two.
- 57:30Number two was heart wrenching for me, and that's Sylvania Sylvania.
- 57:34We've already mentioned it.
- 57:36the, the original, the original first Four Seasons, NOC Turn has
- 57:41to continue before including it.
- 57:43But the first four seasons, I mean, you're covering Sylvania three, Dracula's
- 57:49Curse, you're covering, Sylvania Curse of Darkness, sympathy of the ninth.
- 57:54You're getting a little original lore in there.
- 57:56It's a nice blend.
- 57:57It's just what?
- 57:59No, come on, John.
- 58:00Jump on the Castle Vanna bandwagon at least.
- 58:04Jon: No, I, the fact that this is number two just makes me so disappointed
- 58:09that I didn't get you to cut it.
- 58:11Kearns: He's so evil.
- 58:12Ryan: ca It's so good and just,
- 58:15Kearns: evil, John.
- 58:17Jon: Can you imagine how wonderful that would've been
- 58:20if you had cut your number two
- 58:22Ryan: I'm
- 58:23Jon: an hour ago?
- 58:24Ryan: number one on there.
- 58:25'cause that could have gotten cut and it didn't.
- 58:27And that's Fallout.
- 58:29I love Fallout.
- 58:30The show.
- 58:31The show's so good.
- 58:32we're talking about inspiration.
- 58:34There's a lot of inspiration on the fallout because they've
- 58:37changed the lore a lot.
- 58:39So they're trying to keep in contention with the first game, the second game,
- 58:42the third and the fourth and New Vegas because they include certain things like
- 58:47the water shortage and death clause and.
- 58:50New Vegas, but as much as they include the lore, they put a little
- 58:56originality in it too, which I love.
- 58:58those are my top five.
- 59:00Most of 'em are all TV series because I'll be real, I've never, I haven't
- 59:04seen a good movie, video game movie besides like the new Mortal Kombat
- 59:09or the old Mortal Ko, or you know,
- 59:13Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 59:13Ryan: Hit and miss.
- 59:16Jon: Well, and I think that's part of why they've gotten better at adapting
- 59:20video games is you have streaming services that all need content.
- 59:25So instead of cramming a game that takes you, you know, minimum, what,
- 59:2915 hours to play and cramming that in an hour and a half movie, you
- 59:34can now do 15 hours of a show.
- 59:37Ryan: Halo.
- 59:37They failed at Halo.
- 59:39Kearns: Yeah,
- 59:40Ryan: I.
- 59:40Kearns: they sure did.
- 59:42Jon: I am curious.
- 59:43One of my sneaky favorite game series does have a show on Amazon
- 59:49that I haven't checked out yet.
- 59:51Yakuza,
- 59:52Ryan: it's in, uh,
- 59:54Jon: I haven't checked this show out.
- 59:56I'm, you know, I'm semi concerned about it, but
- 1:00:00Ryan: in, it's in Japanese of course.
- 1:00:02It's very much as the first
- 1:00:04Jon: yeah.
- 1:00:05Ryan: if you played the first game, um, there's a little bit of changes in
- 1:00:08Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:00:09Ryan: not so much.
- 1:00:10It's the
- 1:00:11Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:00:12Ryan: dialogue, written action packed cusa that we're familiar with
- 1:00:21from my understanding.
- 1:00:23Kearns: John, you
- 1:00:24Ryan: Yeah.
- 1:00:25What is your top five?
- 1:00:27Jon: I do have a top five.
- 1:00:29My top five is horror movies featuring actors from The Walking Dead.
- 1:00:36so number five, we have Jeffrey Dean Morgan who infamously your
- 1:00:42boy Nagan in dead end breakfast.
- 1:00:47Kearns: Really?
- 1:00:51Jon: Really?
- 1:00:51So this, the cast is like all like TV actors who were kind of at their
- 1:00:57peak, whatever that was for them.
- 1:01:00Jeremy Cito, Eric Paladino.
- 1:01:03You know guys like that who are like kind of big for a minute, and
- 1:01:07it's exactly what it sounds like.
- 1:01:08A local bed and breakfast is overrun by zombies and the guests and the proprietors
- 1:01:13are left to fend off the hungry unde.
- 1:01:16Ryan: I'm sold.
- 1:01:17Kearns: Sounds good.
- 1:01:19Jon: Um, it's, it's fun.
- 1:01:21It's not great.
- 1:01:22It's pro.
- 1:01:23It may have been a sci-fi original.
- 1:01:25Kearns: wa
- 1:01:25Jon: not like,
- 1:01:27Ryan: But
- 1:01:27Jon: it, it's fun.
- 1:01:28It's fun.
- 1:01:29Ryan: my opinion, he does elevate it.
- 1:01:32He
- 1:01:32Jon: Yeah.
- 1:01:32Ryan: and I'm not saying that because you know, he's got a delicious candy
- 1:01:36store up in, you know, Reinbeck,
- 1:01:39Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:01:39Ryan: out of this world, but you know, you know he is.
- 1:01:42He's a good dude, the comedian.
- 1:01:44Come on now.
- 1:01:48Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:01:49so number four, we're gonna go to a movie starring Michael
- 1:01:52Rucker, our old guy Merle.
- 1:01:55it was good.
- 1:01:56It should be Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer, but I feel like I've put that
- 1:01:59on like multiple lists at this point.
- 1:02:02So I'm going with a Stephen King adaptation directed by
- 1:02:06George Romero, the dark half.
- 1:02:09So the dark half is, during surgery to remove what was
- 1:02:13believed to be a tumor as a child.
- 1:02:15Young Thad Beaumont learns, it's actually his twin brother.
- 1:02:18Kearns: old urban legend, by the
- 1:02:20Jon: Um
- 1:02:21Kearns: before that story was written, I
- 1:02:23Jon: mm-hmm.
- 1:02:25Kearns: it 'cause I
- 1:02:25Jon: Yeah.
- 1:02:26Kearns: that story was written.
- 1:02:27But still, I
- 1:02:28Jon: Yeah.
- 1:02:29That, that's a,
- 1:02:30Kearns: Sorry.
- 1:02:30Jon: yeah, as an adult.
- 1:02:32The twin reemerges to claim Thad's life
- 1:02:35Ryan: it's what, um, what's
- 1:02:37Jon: and this one does.
- 1:02:38Ryan: malignant should have been.
- 1:02:41It failed.
- 1:02:42Kearns: a pile of garbage.
- 1:02:44Such
- 1:02:45Ryan: Yes, it was
- 1:02:45Kearns: was the voice.
- 1:02:46If it was, if they didn't go with that choice, with the goddamn voice, could
- 1:02:51have done something with that movie.
- 1:02:52Anyway.
- 1:02:53All right.
- 1:02:53Number, number, whatever.
- 1:02:55Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:02:56Ryan: there.
- 1:02:57Jon: Number three, is with Steven Yune, who is Glen.
- 1:03:02the movie is Mayhem.
- 1:03:04Kearns: Yeah.
- 1:03:04Jon: in mayhem.
- 1:03:05He, plays Derek Cho, who is wrongfully terminated on the same day a virus
- 1:03:11tears through his corporate law office.
- 1:03:14This virus turns the staff into zombie lake creatures, except these
- 1:03:21creatures act on their wildest impulses.
- 1:03:25Kearns: Nice.
- 1:03:27Jon: costars Samara weaving, who we'll get to in some future episodes
- 1:03:32in ready or not and some other stuff.
- 1:03:34Um, she's really good in this.
- 1:03:38so number two is one of my favorite, more recent slashers.
- 1:03:43Its stars, or it doesn't star, but it features Scott Wilson,
- 1:03:48Ryan: Yep.
- 1:03:48Jon: all Herschel in the Walking Dead.
- 1:03:52and it's behind the Mask, the Rise of Leslie Vernon.
- 1:03:56Kearns: Never heard of it.
- 1:03:58Jon: this one needs to get on our calendar before too long.
- 1:04:00Also, a documentary.
- 1:04:03Ryan: I know.
- 1:04:03Jon: Yeah, a documentary crew is given full access to an up and
- 1:04:09coming psychopathic killer as he plans his next murder spree, not
- 1:04:15knowing they are the victims.
- 1:04:17Ryan: Really good.
- 1:04:20Jon: and you get, appearances from a bunch of horror legends.
- 1:04:23Kane Hotters in it, Robert Eng England is in it.
- 1:04:26Zelda Rubenstein is in it.
- 1:04:29it's a lot of fun.
- 1:04:30It's not like played as straight horror.
- 1:04:32It's you, it is.
- 1:04:33Got the goofiness, but it's really well done.
