- 2:13Speaker 1: It's Leggy on Altitude Sports Radio ninety two five.
- 2:19Speaker 6: There are these steps. There'll be some more adversity, but
- 2:23Speaker 6: you know there is a poise with him. I think
- 2:25Speaker 6: his teammates in the huddle talk about it. The third
- 2:29Speaker 6: down play was significant because right at that moment then
- 2:33Speaker 6: we controlled everything, the clock, the game, and I think
- 2:39Speaker 6: it was funny. After the game, you know, you're going
- 2:41Speaker 6: across the field and I see Andy and a few
- 2:44Speaker 6: of the other guys, and I see Patrick and known
- 2:46Speaker 6: him and he just turned to me said you got one.
- 2:49Speaker 6: And I think he told bo, hey, we're going to
- 2:52Speaker 6: have a lot of good games and h and that's
- 2:56Speaker 6: that's something coming from him.
- 3:01Speaker 8: Let's sit out to the ramas Law hot line car accident.

- 3:06Speaker 8: dot com. We'll talk to Jeff Legwall at ESPN dot
- 3:09Speaker 8: com as we do every single Thursday. Jeff, So, I
- 3:12Speaker 8: heard a couple of different clips. It was that and
- 3:14Speaker 8: if you can play this for Leggy as well, Nelly,
- 3:16Speaker 8: give me Travis Kelcey on his podcast as he was
- 3:19Speaker 8: talking about bow Knicks in the game last week against
- 3:21Speaker 8: the Broncos.
- 3:22Speaker 7: Just real quick, Payton's got those guys motivated and playing
- 3:26Speaker 7: great ball on the offensive side to bow Knicks.
- 3:29Speaker 4: Holy, that guy will ripping it yeah in the first
- 3:33Speaker 4: half football man.
- 3:36Speaker 8: Uh So, two big compliments seemingly from two of the
- 3:39Speaker 8: best players in the league at their positions in Patrick
- 3:41Speaker 8: Mahomes and Travis Kelcey. How did you evaluate the bow
- 3:44Speaker 8: Knicks game in Kansas City, Jeff.
- 3:47Speaker 5: Well, I think he's he's getting better at what they
- 3:51Speaker 5: do best, I think is how I would put it.
- 3:53Speaker 5: I think they're really finding some of those uh areas
- 3:59Speaker 5: on the field where they feel like they can get
- 4:01Speaker 5: an advantage, and he and Courtland Sutton have have got
- 4:04Speaker 5: it pretty dialed in at this point. You know, again,
- 4:09Speaker 5: you know, you talk to defensive coaches around the league,
- 4:11Speaker 5: and this isn't me, this is defensive coaches. They say
- 4:15Speaker 5: there are parts of the field the Broncos don't challenge,
- 4:19Speaker 5: and that that would be an issue, you know, the
- 4:21Speaker 5: deeper they go into this, and if they do make
- 4:24Speaker 5: the playoffs, that that will be an issue. And his footwork,
- 4:28Speaker 5: this is going to be his footwork until the offseason.
- 4:31Speaker 5: That's just he's got too much on his plate right
- 4:34Speaker 5: now probably to worry about all of that. But I think, uh,
- 4:39Speaker 5: you know, I've told people I think after that game
- 4:43Speaker 5: and the way it ended, I thought he showed some
- 4:48Speaker 5: of the best perspective about all of it.
- 4:52Speaker 9: And I think the best thing bo Nick said after
- 4:54Speaker 9: that game.
- 4:56Speaker 5: Was, you know, even including all of the good things
- 5:00Speaker 5: he did, he he stood there and he said, you know,
- 5:03Speaker 5: at some point, we've got to go down there and
- 5:06Speaker 5: score a touchdown on our own. And to me, that
- 5:10Speaker 5: says an awful lot about the young guy and where
- 5:14Speaker 5: he is right now and in his development because opponents
- 5:19Speaker 5: always usually not always, but usually say that stuff after
- 5:23Speaker 5: they've won the game.
- 5:24Speaker 3: You know, I uh, if the Brooks made the field goal,
- 5:29Speaker 3: Jeff would would they be like, oh, yeah, man, he's rad.
- 5:34Speaker 9: No, I don't.
- 5:35Speaker 5: It's not been my experience to get a lot of
- 5:39Speaker 5: those comments from guys after they've lost the game to
- 5:44Speaker 5: the people, unless the performance was just so amazing they
- 5:48Speaker 5: couldn't deny it. But now, the last drive was his
- 5:51Speaker 5: best work of the year and he was really composed, uh,
- 5:56Speaker 5: and they made a couple of really good plays uh
- 6:00Speaker 5: in there, and you know, it was it was much
- 6:02Speaker 5: better than sort of how they handled things just before halftime.
- 6:06Speaker 5: So even even in games, he's sort of adapting and
- 6:11Speaker 5: and and doing things pretty well in spots.
- 6:15Speaker 7: Yeah, it just sucks that he's denied his first comeback
- 6:17Speaker 7: victory in the NFL because he was right there.
- 6:19Speaker 4: Is it right there for the time, But it was there.
- 6:21Speaker 5: Fifty nutes and fifty nine seconds of doing what you're
- 6:25Speaker 5: supposed to do.
- 6:26Speaker 7: Leggy, any details on what transpired over the course of
- 6:30Speaker 7: the week. Longtime Special Teams coach Mike Westoff walking away
- 6:34Speaker 7: clearly health reasons can you provide more details to what
- 6:37Speaker 7: happened there.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:39Speaker 5: Uh, you know, both Sean Payton and other people have
- 6:43Speaker 5: said that he was experiencing some blurry vision and in
- 6:49Speaker 5: one or both of his eyes, that's you know, for
- 6:52Speaker 5: at least a week week and a half, and.
- 6:56Speaker 9: Was trying to deal with it.
- 6:57Speaker 5: And then after uh, after the game, uh dialed up
- 7:04Speaker 5: sort of the medical evaluations and went through a lot
- 7:07Speaker 5: of tests and and scans and all of it to
- 7:10Speaker 5: see what was going on.
- 7:12Speaker 3: And and the.
- 7:13Speaker 5: Doctors essentially told him, look, you it's probably time you
- 7:19Speaker 5: don't coach anymore, uh and deal with this. And uh,
- 7:25Speaker 5: you know, Sean Payton in particular mentioned, uh stress, the
- 7:29Speaker 5: stress of coaching was in the equation there somewhere.
- 7:33Speaker 3: You know.
- 7:34Speaker 5: We all internalized stress differently, we all handle it differently,
- 7:39Speaker 5: and it and it shows up differently and all of
- 7:41Speaker 5: us too. So I think they felt like the stress
- 7:45Speaker 5: of coaching wasn't helping him deal with the the medical issue.
- 7:50Speaker 5: So uh, that's why the decision was made. But and
- 7:55Speaker 5: uh I had only heard part part of this story
- 7:58Speaker 5: last offseason, but Peyton filled in the gaps yesterday and
- 8:04Speaker 5: saying that, you know, originally the plan was west Off
- 8:07Speaker 5: would only coach last season with the Broncos, but that
- 8:12Speaker 5: actually Greg Penner had talked to him in the at
- 8:16Speaker 5: the at the end of last season and and sort
- 8:20Speaker 5: of asked and and convinced west Off to come back
- 8:24Speaker 5: for one more year. So originally the plan was he
- 8:27Speaker 5: was only going to coach the one year.
- 8:29Speaker 3: Here, Jeff, what are we looking at in the Atlanta
- 8:32Speaker 3: Falcons with a poor defense in a pretty dang good offense.
- 8:36Speaker 3: What are we looking at?
- 8:37Speaker 9: That's what you're looking at most.
- 8:39Speaker 5: I mean, I will say after charting a bunch of
- 8:43Speaker 5: their UH games and series, I will say there, they
- 8:48Speaker 5: are one of the worst pass rushing teams I've seen
- 8:51Speaker 5: in quite a while. They do not get much pressure
- 8:54Speaker 5: on the passer.
- 8:55Speaker 9: So if did we get.
- 9:01Speaker 5: They are last in the league two in sacks per
- 9:03Speaker 5: past attempt, which I like as a sack stat two.
- 9:09Speaker 5: But so if Nis is under duress Sunday, the Broncos
- 9:12Speaker 5: are definitely doing something wrong.
- 9:14Speaker 3: You know.
- 9:15Speaker 8: On top of that, speaking of protection, let's just go
- 9:18Speaker 8: back to last week for a second. Broncos received the
- 9:21Speaker 8: kick this weekend against Atlanta. They take the opening drive
- 9:24Speaker 8: for a touchdown. Ten play drive seventy five yards boom
- 9:27Speaker 8: score is foresythe still on that field goal unit.
- 9:32Speaker 5: You know, it's hard to change guys in and out
- 9:35Speaker 5: and look, I you know, I know, especially what betting
- 9:41Speaker 5: has done to postgame reactions about things. But if anybody
- 9:48Speaker 5: thinks that as Alex Forsyth's loan fault, then you're not
- 9:53Speaker 5: looking at it closely enough. And I will say there's
- 9:57Speaker 5: probably been twenty three instances or so this year we're
- 10:02Speaker 5: on an extra point or a field goal, the Broncos
- 10:05Speaker 5: have had a player on the ground and I didn't
- 10:07Speaker 5: hear one person say crap about that. So, yes, he
- 10:12Speaker 5: got bowled over, he got beat. But it's very common
- 10:17Speaker 5: with that spot in the line. In the kicking game,
- 10:21Speaker 5: you can't the players say you have to die slow.
- 10:25Speaker 5: You can't get bowled over all the way so quickly.
- 10:28Speaker 5: That was the mistake from the player, But I think
- 10:32Speaker 5: he's still out there. You don't have many linemen up
- 10:36Speaker 5: on game days, so it would take a pretty radical switch,
- 10:39Speaker 5: you know. I guess you could put rock Morton up
- 10:43Speaker 5: on the game day roster and move people around, but
- 10:47Speaker 5: I don't know if people have noticed. But in the
- 10:49Speaker 5: kicking game, you invert or you flip. You flip the
- 10:53Speaker 5: line because it's a right footed kicker, but like Garrett Bowles,
- 10:56Speaker 5: the left tackle is on the right side of the
- 10:59Speaker 5: kicking line, so things are flipped and things are a
- 11:03Speaker 5: little different in the kicking game.
- 11:06Speaker 4: Is odric Estimate RB one from here on out?
- 11:10Speaker 5: You know, he sure looks like they're sure acting like it.
- 11:12Speaker 5: I'll say that now whether you know, I don't know
- 11:16Speaker 5: that we'll see one back here get you know, sort
- 11:19Speaker 5: of the traditional bulk of the carries, but he's making
- 11:24Speaker 5: the most of his time right now.
- 11:26Speaker 9: You can't ignore the six yards of carry they need.
- 11:29Speaker 5: They need more power between the numbers, and he gives
- 11:32Speaker 5: them that, which that frees up bone nicks on some
- 11:36Speaker 5: of the play action and the bootlegs and even the
- 11:39Speaker 5: called runs for knicks to the outside will be a
- 11:43Speaker 5: lot better if Estimate is running with power between the numbers.
- 11:48Speaker 5: And I think it was a pretty big deal that
- 11:51Speaker 5: the running back in the formation on the last drive
- 11:53Speaker 5: last weekend was was Estimate.
- 11:57Speaker 4: Jeff.
- 11:57Speaker 3: I feel pretty good about not only this weekend but
- 12:00Speaker 3: the coming weeks. And again I don't want to put
- 12:02Speaker 3: any card on top of any horse, but man, I
- 12:06Speaker 3: think this team could be nine to five. You get
- 12:08Speaker 3: by the Falcons, I think gonna beat the Raiders, Browns,
- 12:10Speaker 3: and Colts. That's my opinion. You take your chances against
- 12:13Speaker 3: the Chargers. Does that seem pretty fair to you or
- 12:15Speaker 3: is that is that crazy thinking?
- 12:18Speaker 5: Well, I get we don't know yet how this team
- 12:21Speaker 5: would handle prosperity, and with a younger team, that's always
- 12:25Speaker 5: an issue. You know, you start feeling pretty good and
- 12:29Speaker 5: and a game gets away from you, and uh, but
- 12:33Speaker 5: I've said before that uh, and I put it on
- 12:37Speaker 5: our you know, our air at ESPN was that I
- 12:40Speaker 5: thought the Atlanta game was one of the most important
- 12:44Speaker 5: tipping points for are you going to be a playoff
- 12:46Speaker 5: team or not. I know it's an NFC game in
- 12:49Speaker 5: terms of tie breakers and things, but uh, I think
- 12:54Speaker 5: they need this game to get themselves in good shape
- 12:58Speaker 5: because you know, right now they're in the seventh spot
- 13:01Speaker 5: and they have the advantage and that they will face
- 13:06Speaker 5: the two teams behind them, Indianapolis and Cincinnati. So the
- 13:10Speaker 5: fact they get to face those two teams head to
- 13:13Speaker 5: head is a big deal, especially if they get this win.
- 13:17Speaker 3: Can I forget about the Dolphins? Can I forget about them?
- 13:20Speaker 3: I'm scared. They'll They're a totally different team with Tua,
- 13:22Speaker 3: totally different. They could make a run.
- 13:24Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 13:25Speaker 3: Should I forget about him?
- 13:26Speaker 9: No, I wouldn't.
- 13:27Speaker 5: I mean, the bottom of the AFC playoff race is
- 13:30Speaker 5: really you know, the AFC is so top heavy.
- 13:33Speaker 9: The heavyweights are the real heavyweights in the league, and.
- 13:37Speaker 5: The gap between them and that next group, which would
- 13:41Speaker 5: probably include the Broncos, I think is pretty significant. And
- 13:46Speaker 5: if you don't think the gap is significant, I would
- 13:49Speaker 5: ask you to look at the Baltimore game one more time.
- 13:51Speaker 8: Then, Jeff All last year, I feel like I asked
- 13:56Speaker 8: you a question that I just gave up on this season,
- 13:59Speaker 8: but I'm gonna bring it back. Because Marvin Mims had
- 14:02Speaker 8: seven touches. Were they super impactful? No, But it was
- 14:05Speaker 8: interesting to see him out there lining up at running
- 14:07Speaker 8: back early in the game. Are they making a conscious
- 14:11Speaker 8: effort to try and get him more touches now and
- 14:13Speaker 8: try and get him in positions where he can use
- 14:15Speaker 8: his speed and athleticism.
- 14:17Speaker 5: Well, he certainly wouldn'tut him at running back if you
- 14:19Speaker 5: were not really really trying, because that that's a significant
- 14:25Speaker 5: sort of concession to the idea that they got to
- 14:27Speaker 5: get the ball in his hands in some way, because
- 14:29Speaker 5: that that's not a simple as simply telling a guy, hey,
- 14:35Speaker 5: you're going to line up in the backfield. That's a
- 14:37Speaker 5: whole different set of parameters. You know, a player's got
- 14:41Speaker 5: to deal with and not everybody. You know that that's
- 14:44Speaker 5: a testament to him as a player to be able
- 14:47Speaker 5: to do that in a week's time basically. I mean
- 14:51Speaker 5: there were there's a smattering of snaps where he lined
- 14:54Speaker 5: up as the single setback you know, back there, so
- 14:57Speaker 5: and I think from a you know, I don't get
- 15:00Speaker 5: too deep in the weeds and the football nerd them.
- 15:03Speaker 5: But you know, when you put him in the game
- 15:06Speaker 5: as the third wide receiver but he's actually lined up
- 15:09Speaker 5: at the running back with a full back in the lineup,
- 15:12Speaker 5: that does a lot of quirky things to a defense that.
- 15:16Speaker 9: May get you a big play down the road in
- 15:18Speaker 9: the passing game.
- 15:20Speaker 7: I just like putting your most explosive players on the field,
- 15:24Speaker 7: and I think, however you play them, wherever you play them,
- 15:28Speaker 7: is this smart thing to do. I don't care where
- 15:30Speaker 7: you line up, give them the ball. I mean San
- 15:32Speaker 7: Francisco's shown us that it doesn't matter where you play them,
- 15:35Speaker 7: give them the ball, give them the opportunity to explode.
- 15:38Speaker 4: And I think they're finally doing it.
- 15:41Speaker 9: Yeah they can.
- 15:42Speaker 5: I I know coaches get tired of me blathering on
- 15:46Speaker 5: about it, but I think overthinking is a disease in
- 15:49Speaker 5: the NFL, and sometimes it is simply put your best
- 15:54Speaker 5: guys on the field and see what happens.
- 15:57Speaker 9: And and they're doing that.
- 15:58Speaker 5: You know, estimates playing more. They're doing more things on
- 16:02Speaker 5: offense they wouldn't have done with the quarterback other than
- 16:05Speaker 5: bow Nicks. I mean, they're they're making the concessions, the
- 16:10Speaker 5: movement that they maybe should have done a little earlier
- 16:14Speaker 5: this season. They're they're doing it now at a pretty
- 16:17Speaker 5: important time.
- 16:19Speaker 8: Jeff Lakewell ESPN dot Com joins us every single Thursday.
- 16:21Speaker 8: Always appreciate it, Leggy, thank.
- 16:23Speaker 4: You, buddy.

- 16:25Speaker 4: Say it all right, you gotta go to because you
- 16:29Speaker 4: gotta go to wake.
- 16:29Speaker 3: Like the Penguin says it, you gotta wake.
- 16:31Speaker 8: See, Moses watched two episodes of The Penguin now and
- 16:34Speaker 8: now he's starting to get some of these references.
- 16:36Speaker 4: You understand, that's not the.
- 16:37Speaker 7: Penguin, that's Mick he said that first we gotta get
- 16:42Speaker 7: waken well in Rockie.
- 16:44Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah.
- 16:45Speaker 4: By the way, I have a topic for the next
