Transcript
- 0:00Good evening, Grace Harbor - it’s Dan!
- 0:03How’d your Thursday go?
- 0:05My day was pretty crazy.
- 0:07Between it being the last day of school and the day our church hosts
- 0:11the Christmas Market, there was a lot of excitement in the air.
- 0:16And a few snow flakes as well!
- 0:18The Christmas Market was a great success.
- 0:21I saw lots of smiles, lots of hot chocolate,
- 0:25and lots of amazing handmade gifts getting wrapped up for Christmas.
- 0:29That included a couple things I picked up.
- 0:32I have been debating all day if I should share what I got
- 0:36because I’m sure some of you are curious.
- 0:39But they’re also gifts that I’ll be giving people next week.
- 0:44Hmmm… this is a tough call.
- 0:46Ok, you know what?
- 0:48If you promise to help me keep it a surprise, I’ll tell you.
- 0:53The first thing I got was a poem from Ms.
- 0:55Carolyn.
- 0:56She’s a poet who lives here in town, and she’s known for using an old typewriter.
- 1:01A special thing she can do is make up a poem
- 1:04on the spot about whatever topic you want.
- 1:07My daughter really wants to be a dentist, so I had her write a poem about teeth!
- 1:13Then, I went over to Mr. Rutherford’s table.
- 1:15He carves things out of wood - including toys!
- 1:19My son is a really into trucks right now,
- 1:22and there was the most adorable hand-carved wooden firetruck.
- 1:26Lastly, I wanted to find something for my wife.
- 1:29Well, this year, my daughter’s teacher went down to the harbor
- 1:33and picked up some cool rocks
- 1:35and had each of the students paint one for the Market.
- 1:38I was able to get our daughter’s
- 1:40rock, which she had painted with a cool space theme.
- 1:43I think my wife’s going to love it,
- 1:45and my daughter will be surprised - if you don’t tell her, that is!
- 1:49Ugh, it can be so hard to keep something a surprise, can’t it?!
- 1:54As soon as the Market wrapped up, I immediately wanted
- 1:57to give everyone their gifts because I’m so excited about them.
- 2:01That’s one of the funny things about growing up - at least for me.
- 2:05When I was a kid, I loved getting presents.
- 2:08And, don’t get me wrong, I still really appreciate it when people think of me.
- 2:12But, especially now that I’m a dad,
- 2:15I get so much more excited by giving gifts.
- 2:19Have you ever felt that way?
- 2:21We said
- 2:22Wednesday morning that one of the best things about joy
- 2:25is that when you share it with others, they get more, and you never have less!
- 2:30What are some of the ways your family shares joy with each other?
- 2:34Do you all have a favorite meal you eat regularly,
- 2:37like taco night or ice cream on Friday nights in the summer?
- 2:41Do you have a fun activity that you do together like swimming or doing a puzzle?
- 2:46Take a few moments to name the ways you multiply joy in your family.
- 2:51If you need more time, you can pause the podcast, and I’ll
- 2:55be right here when you get back.
- 3:26Ok, like I said, it’s been a busy day.
- 3:31Fun! But busy, for sure.
- 3:34Let’s pray together, and then I think I’m heading to bed too.
- 3:39If you want to, you can close your eyes and fold your hands.
- 3:43Dear God,
- 3:44we thank you for the joy that comes from both giving and receiving.
- 3:48Fill our hearts with joy so we have plenty to share with others.
- 3:53Give us a good night’s sleep tonight so that we can wake up tomorrow
- 3:56rested and refreshed and ready to end the week well.
- 4:00Amen.
- 4:01Good night, Grace Harbor.
- 4:03I’ll talk to you in the morning.
