- Lucas: Ciao Luna, welcome back to Learn Italian with Fexingo! Luna: Ciao Lucas! I'm so happy to be here. You know, I was outside today and I thought, I should know how to talk about the weather in Italian. Lucas: Oh, that's a great idea. Weather is such a common conversation starter. Let's learn a few simple phrases today. Luna: Perfect. So where do we start? Lucas: Let's start with a sunny day. In Italian, you say 'c'è il sole'. Repeat after me: c'è il sole. Luna: C'è il sole. That means 'there is the sun'? Lucas: Exactly. It literally means 'there is the sun', but we use it to say 'it's sunny'. So, 'c'è il sole'. Luna: C'è il sole. I love that. So if I look outside and see a bright sky, I can say 'c'è il sole'. Lucas: Right. And if it's raining, you say 'piove'. Just one word: piove. Luna: Piove. That sounds like 'it rains'. Lucas: Yes, it means 'it rains' or 'it's raining'. So if you see raindrops, you say 'piove'. Luna: Piove. Okay, I can remember that. So I have sunny and rainy. What about temperature? Lucas: Good question. For 'it's hot', you say 'fa caldo'. Fa caldo. Luna: Fa caldo. And 'it's cold'? Lucas: 'Fa freddo'. Fa freddo. Luna: Fa freddo. So 'fa' is like 'it does'? Lucas: Exactly. 'Fa' is from the verb 'fare', meaning 'to do' or 'to make'. So 'fa caldo' literally 'it does hot'. Luna: Got it. C'è il sole, piove, fa caldo, fa freddo. Let me try them all. Lucas: Go for it. Luna: C'è il sole. Piove. Fa caldo. Fa freddo. How was that? Lucas: That was absolutely perfect. You sound like a native! Luna: Aww, thank you. Now let's practice with some situations. So Lucas, what's the weather like where you are? Lucas: Well, today c'è il sole. It's beautiful. How about you? Luna: Oh, here fa freddo. I need a jacket. Lucas: Oh no. Fa freddo. But maybe later piove? Luna: I hope not. But if it does, I'll say 'piove'. Lucas: Let's do one more quick round. I'll say a phrase in English, you say it in Italian. Luna: Okay, hit me. Lucas: It's sunny. Luna: C'è il sole. Lucas: It's cold. Luna: Fa freddo. Lucas: It's raining. Luna: Piove. Lucas: It's hot. Luna: Fa caldo. Lucas: Nailed it. You're ready for any weather conversation. Luna: Grazie, Lucas. I'll try to use these today. Maybe when I step outside, I'll say 'c'è il sole' or 'fa freddo'. Lucas: That's the spirit. And remember, you can always practice with us at Fexingo. We'll be back next time with more Italian. Luna: Yes! See you next time. Ciao! Lucas: Ciao!
