- 0:10Speaker 1: can Eat four four forty nine.
- 0:15Speaker 2: She's sheen am me.
- 0:18Speaker 1: No, may not my ny yo yod, what is your childhood?
- 0:24Speaker 3: Rada?
- 0:26Speaker 4: I am a cook chokra.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Yo.
- 0:30Speaker 4: Life's going down before like you Rod and welcome to
- 0:46Speaker 4: Like a Virgin reporting to you live from Fire Island Pines.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Yes, we're currently sitting very close together. Yes, touching, touching.
- 0:56Speaker 4: I'm not wearing I'm not wearing pants. I will disclose that.
- 0:59Speaker 2: But you are wearing a bathing suit. It's not like
- 1:01Speaker 2: your it's not like your shirt cocking.
- 1:03Speaker 4: Yeah, it's not like I'm like, who is that editor
- 1:05Speaker 4: at the New Yorker bag who was like god jerking
- 1:07Speaker 4: off on like a zoom cap. I don't know his
- 1:09Speaker 4: name anyways, I'm frantro Oh. Welcome to Like a Virgin,
- 1:15Speaker 4: the show where we give yesterday's pop culture today's takes.
- 1:18Speaker 4: I'm fran Torodo. I'm we are doing our annual new
- 1:24Speaker 4: our annual Fire Island recorded episode this year. We are
- 1:27Speaker 4: not doing it stoned.
- 1:29Speaker 1: No.
- 1:29Speaker 2: I you know, I thought about hitting my vape like
- 1:34Speaker 2: earlier this morning and then you know, I decided that
- 1:38Speaker 2: I just wanted to hold off a little bit today
- 1:41Speaker 2: on getting absolutely obliterated because we've been starting early. Yeah,
- 1:46Speaker 2: we've been on vacation. It's now Monday. We've bought on
- 1:49Speaker 2: vacation since Thursday. So like it's we're truly island girls
- 1:53Speaker 2: right now. Yeah, island time. I had the other day,
- 1:56Speaker 2: I had to ask what day it was. I truly
- 1:58Speaker 2: did not know.
- 1:59Speaker 4: I literally really miss a friend's birthday because I didn't
- 2:02Speaker 4: know what day it was.
- 2:02Speaker 2: But not my birthday, because it's not my birthday. My
- 2:05Speaker 2: birthday is well, listeners, when you're hearing this on Thursday,
- 2:08Speaker 2: my birthday will be tomorrow, July fourteenth, bestial day. Okay,
- 2:12Speaker 2: a great day to a wish arose a happy birthday,
- 2:15Speaker 2: to make your little homage posts to her, glorifying her
- 2:19Speaker 2: in every way.
- 2:20Speaker 4: I feel like I've glorified you a little bit already.
- 2:22Speaker 4: You have.
- 2:23Speaker 2: So I was surprised with a pool party pinata yesterday.
- 2:31Speaker 2: I really loved the chance to hit something violently with
- 2:35Speaker 2: no repercussions, with no repercussions, and the pinata was full
- 2:39Speaker 2: of candy, cigarettes, lube, and then the things that didn't
- 2:44Speaker 2: for them Panada were tuna salad from the Pines Pantry,
- 2:46Speaker 2: which is my favorite, my favorite tuna salad in the world.
- 2:50Speaker 2: And then also our friend friend of the podcast Peyton
- 2:54Speaker 2: who is here, brought me my birthday present, which was
- 2:57Speaker 2: a Alice from Twilight doll that is now my most
- 3:02Speaker 2: prized possession.
- 3:03Speaker 4: And an official Barbie Alice doll. Like I didn't realize
- 3:06Speaker 4: the barbie. I mean, Barbie will franchise anything, but yes, Alice.
- 3:09Speaker 2: So I can't wait to set her up at home
- 3:13Speaker 2: in a place of pride. I don't know if I'm
- 3:15Speaker 2: going to take her out of the box or not.
- 3:17Speaker 2: I do want to play with her, but it's the
- 3:20Speaker 2: kind of collector barbie that I think might need to
- 3:24Speaker 2: stay boxed up. Of the two Barbies that I have,
- 3:27Speaker 2: and I am thinking about a third, I am trying
- 3:29Speaker 2: to figure out, Yeah, which ones do I take out
- 3:31Speaker 2: of the box?
- 3:31Speaker 4: Which ones do I keep in the box. I wish
- 3:33Speaker 4: it was easier to like.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Do both, like if it was like easily removable and
- 3:39Speaker 2: I could like take her out and play and then
- 3:41Speaker 2: put her back in the box for display purposes. But
- 3:45Speaker 2: it's not, so I will figure it out. So so
- 3:51Speaker 2: far on this trip. You know, we've been hanging out
- 3:53Speaker 2: by the pool, going to the beach.
- 3:56Speaker 4: You've read two books.
- 3:57Speaker 2: I've read two books and I'm like a third of
- 4:00Speaker 2: the way through my third.
- 4:01Speaker 4: Are any of them going to make it into Roses
- 4:03Speaker 4: Book Corner? Are they trash? No? I like good trash. No.
- 4:06Speaker 2: I maybe not like a dedicated Roses Book Corner episode.
- 4:10Speaker 2: But maybe, like I'll do because I've been reading so
- 4:13Speaker 2: much this summer, maybe I'll do like a Hags summer
- 4:16Speaker 2: reading like summer book ketchup packis.
- 4:22Speaker 4: Pacus.
- 4:24Speaker 2: But yeah, the books that I've read so far are
- 4:26Speaker 2: The Guest by Emma Klein, which I really liked, be
- 4:29Speaker 2: hated the ending, and then We Could Be So Good
- 4:34Speaker 2: by kat Sebastian, which is a historical gay romance, not
- 4:41Speaker 2: necessarily a Codpiece Ripper because it takes place in the
- 4:44Speaker 2: nineteen fifties, but you know, cod Piece Ripper adjacent, and
- 4:47Speaker 2: I do have some cod Piece Rippers downloaded on my
- 4:50Speaker 2: Kindle for when I finish the book I'm currently reading,
- 4:53Speaker 2: which is Vladimir by Julia.
- 4:58Speaker 4: May Jonas, which I'm really enjoying. And Fran only brought
- 5:04Speaker 4: nonfiction with her, Well, yeah, I brought Polysecure. Me reading
- 5:12Speaker 4: Polly Secure by the pool is a meme of myself.
- 5:14Speaker 2: I think the reason that you only bring nonfiction is
- 5:19Speaker 2: that so the books being boring is your excuse for
- 5:22Speaker 2: not reading.
- 5:23Speaker 4: Kind of Well, here's the thing is, I actually primarily
- 5:27Speaker 4: read nonfiction. I don't really know why. It is kind
- 5:30Speaker 4: of a sick I want to get into reading fiction
- 5:32Speaker 4: more because I don't know. But I think it's honestly
- 5:35Speaker 4: an attentions man thing for me for them that you
- 5:38Speaker 4: do famously have a very shortest. But I did bring
- 5:41Speaker 4: a kind of I did bring a kind of almost
- 5:43Speaker 4: fiction book. It's like maybe auto fiction y, but it's
- 5:46Speaker 4: technically a memoir question Mark but one Hundred Boyfriends by Brontes.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Pernell, which I own but still have never read, And
- 5:53Speaker 2: I know that people really love it, So I do
- 5:56Speaker 2: want to read you.
- 5:57Speaker 4: I do think you would like it. I love it entertaining,
- 6:00Speaker 4: great beat read. I got it like a year or
- 6:04Speaker 4: so ago when it came out, and someone borrowed my
- 6:07Speaker 4: copy and never give it back. So this is why
- 6:09Speaker 4: I don't lend books. Yeah, like I do, I always do, but.
- 6:14Speaker 2: I the last book I lent was when my friend
- 6:16Speaker 2: Ryan and I went on vacation two weeks ago. I
- 6:19Speaker 2: had brought Vladimir with me because I was going to
- 6:21Speaker 2: read it, but then he didn't have a book, so
- 6:23Speaker 2: I let him read it, And as we were sitting
- 6:25Speaker 2: there reading, he just ordered me a new copy on
- 6:28Speaker 2: Amazon and put it sent to my house.
- 6:29Speaker 4: So it all it worked out perfectly.
- 6:30Speaker 2: That's how it's done, because I just hate lending out
- 6:33Speaker 2: books and then not getting them back immediately, and then
- 6:36Speaker 2: having to chase down the book that you lent is
- 6:39Speaker 2: so fucking annoyed.
- 6:41Speaker 4: See, I'll never remember which book I lent out because
- 6:43Speaker 4: I just like always give my belongings.
- 6:45Speaker 2: No, I want my books back, I want I actually
- 6:49Speaker 2: hate lending people things, and I know that you do.
- 6:51Speaker 2: I know that that's like miserly, and I think it
- 6:56Speaker 2: honestly stems from something I've I've been noticing about my
- 7:00Speaker 2: off recently, is that I'm very concerned about things being
- 7:05Speaker 2: put away in their proper place. Like if I'm having
- 7:08Speaker 2: a snack at home, the second I'm done eating it,
- 7:11Speaker 2: it has to go back in the cupboard or refrigerator
- 7:13Speaker 2: or whatever, like the open container can't sit out.
- 7:18Speaker 4: And you so this on this trip you've been you know,
- 7:22Speaker 4: uh relaxing. Yeah, I have been. I've been really trying to. No,
- 7:27Speaker 4: no miserly energy. Scrooge McDuck. Is there like a lady
- 7:32Speaker 4: Scooge Scrooge, a lady Scrooge McDuck feminist icon? Anyways, I
- 7:37Speaker 4: was gonna. I don't know where I was taking that rose.
- 7:42Speaker 4: Is there any is there any culture to catch up on?
- 7:44Speaker 4: I mean we did watch on just like that. Yes,
- 7:46Speaker 4: I watched the most recent episode. Yes we watched it
- 7:49Speaker 4: last night, but but you know, we all haven't watched
- 7:51Speaker 4: drag Race. Don't care.
- 7:52Speaker 2: No, I'm not watching Dark gras well. We did, I mean,
- 7:55Speaker 2: nothing like current pop culture. But the first night we
- 7:58Speaker 2: were here, we watched Aws because there have been a
- 8:04Speaker 2: bunch of shark attacks and fire Island recently. We thought
- 8:06Speaker 2: it was appropriate. And I hadn't seen Jaws in decades,
- 8:10Speaker 2: and you had never seen it.
- 8:11Speaker 4: Well, girl, let's let's be clear. You saw Jaws. The
- 8:14Speaker 4: other night, I quote unquote saw Jaws, but fell asleeping.
- 8:18Speaker 2: I was with the most group viewing experiences on vacation
- 8:23Speaker 2: or even at home fran Fall fell asleep.
- 8:27Speaker 4: But I watched all of Evil Dead Rise, which was
- 8:29Speaker 4: which we bullied Peyton into watching.
- 8:31Speaker 2: Last night we watched People Dead Rise, which I did
- 8:33Speaker 2: talk about when I originally saw it in theaters, But
- 8:35Speaker 2: I mean you you had fun, right, I had.
- 8:38Speaker 4: So much fun. I also love so like you know,
- 8:40Speaker 4: for the versions that don't know or didn't listen to
- 8:42Speaker 4: our Fire Island episode last year, we rent a week
- 8:45Speaker 4: share with four bedrooms by like plus an extra, and
- 8:49Speaker 4: we just shift people in and out based on how
- 8:52Speaker 4: long they want to stay, and people crash for the
- 8:54Speaker 4: day or all this different stuff. And we last night
- 8:58Speaker 4: got to the portion of the Fire Islands day which
- 9:01Speaker 4: is girls only. And I think it made a lot
- 9:04Speaker 4: of sense to watch Evil Dead Rise because it is
- 9:07Speaker 4: first and foremost a feminist film. Yeah, it's about motherhood. Yes,
- 9:11Speaker 4: it's about aout. It's about mother ring, mother ring.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Well you know Alyssa Sutherland who plays the mom maggot, Mommy,
- 9:21Speaker 2: she was mothering. She honestly carried the mother load out
- 9:26Speaker 2: of the mother Lake.
- 9:27Speaker 4: And this was your rewatch. You talked about this on
- 9:29Speaker 4: the podcast before, but this was my first watch and
- 9:32Speaker 4: I actually was not ready for you said it was campy.
- 9:37Speaker 4: It was really really funny.
- 9:40Speaker 2: Yeah, Well that's the original Evil Dead movies from the
- 9:44Speaker 2: seventies or eighties. That's their whole thing is that they're
- 9:49Speaker 2: extremely campy. And then the remake from twenty thirteen, which
- 9:54Speaker 2: I haven't seen but I've heard a lot of people
- 9:56Speaker 2: talk about, is not that at all, and it's much
- 9:59Speaker 2: more gory and violent and like depressing. So I think
- 10:05Speaker 2: people were very excited that this one was a return
- 10:08Speaker 2: to the campiness. Also, one of the things that sold everyone.
- 10:11Speaker 4: I'm watching it last night is that it's under an
- 10:13Speaker 4: hour and a half. Yes, amazing, perfect length for a
- 10:16Speaker 4: movie and for the virgins. Peyton didn't really want to
- 10:18Speaker 4: watch it because she's not much of a scary She's
- 10:20Speaker 4: not as much of a scary movie girl. But she
- 10:24Speaker 4: loved the film. Yes, she loved She had fun.
- 10:26Speaker 2: But back to Jaws, you didn't see I like really
- 10:30Speaker 2: didn't remember much about it. And one thing that I
- 10:32Speaker 2: really discovered on this viewing is Jaws is an extremely
- 10:36Speaker 2: gay movie because it's about these three guys who wind
- 10:40Speaker 2: up alone on a boat together. Two of them are
- 10:43Speaker 2: like taking their clothes off to show each other all
- 10:45Speaker 2: their scars from being attacked by sharks, and there is
- 10:49Speaker 2: insane sexual tension between Richard Dreyfus, who plays the like
- 10:54Speaker 2: science guy who comes from the institute to like investigate
- 10:57Speaker 2: the shark, and then the grizzled old sea captain who
- 11:01Speaker 2: is like sort of like Moby Dick vibes and they
- 11:06Speaker 2: like there's so many parts in the movie where they
- 11:08Speaker 2: look like they're about to kiss. And I actually, now
- 11:11Speaker 2: that I'm thinking about it, do need to see if
- 11:13Speaker 2: there's Jaws fan fiction.
- 11:14Speaker 4: There definitely is, And I also say I will also say,
- 11:17Speaker 4: you know, most maritime stories are homosocial, Like Moby Dick
- 11:21Speaker 4: is like literally like it's hunting on a sperm whale. Yeah, literally,
- 11:25Speaker 4: but also like literally like forty pages of this book
- 11:28Speaker 4: are all about come like it's Herman Melville really, yeah,
- 11:34Speaker 4: went in on that. Yeah, well, the sea is incredibly gay.
- 11:39Speaker 4: It is. It's gay because it's deep, it's gay because
- 11:45Speaker 4: it's serious. Well, gays aren't mysterious. Some of the ones
- 11:49Speaker 4: who do it right. Are the ones that do it
- 11:51Speaker 4: right are Yeah, but I feel like gays actually should
- 11:53Speaker 4: have more mystery.
- 11:54Speaker 2: And well on here the kind of gaze that flock
- 11:58Speaker 2: to fire eye. Yeah, there's absolutely no mystery. This morning
- 12:01Speaker 2: we went to the Pines Pantry and institution to re
- 12:05Speaker 2: up on groceries. And one of the things that I
- 12:08Speaker 2: love about Fire Island is like the sense of community
- 12:11Speaker 2: and it's like a small town. And I love to
- 12:15Speaker 2: say hi to people in the morning as we're walking
- 12:17Speaker 2: on the boardwalk, like it's just like we're all gay
- 12:20Speaker 2: out here, like let's be nice to each other and
- 12:22Speaker 2: say hi.
- 12:23Speaker 4: And this morning, no one was saying hi back. It
- 12:27Speaker 4: was crazy, and the more and like it was crazy,
- 12:29Speaker 4: but it wasn't.
- 12:30Speaker 2: And let's be real, like there were four like femme
- 12:33Speaker 2: people walking around in a very male dominated space. And
- 12:40Speaker 2: I like, the more I was swerved by these men
- 12:45Speaker 2: who wouldn't say hi to me, the nicer and like
- 12:47Speaker 2: more emphatic I became. And so the dissonance got even
- 12:51Speaker 2: greater every time I was like Hi, good morning, good morning,
- 12:55Speaker 2: and then would get no, I was trying missing very
- 12:58Speaker 2: nice and then and I was getting dust in return.
- 13:02Speaker 4: Dust. But it just proves the point, proves the point honestly,
- 13:06Speaker 4: well honest, okay for the virgins. If you don't know,
- 13:09Speaker 4: I know we talk about Fire Island occasionally, but there
- 13:11Speaker 4: are a lot of people that don't live in New
- 13:12Speaker 4: York don't know what it is or maybe haven't seen
- 13:14Speaker 4: the movie or whatever. Yeah, it's just the way you
- 13:19Speaker 4: and I do Fire Island now, and this is becoming
- 13:21Speaker 4: an annual tradition. Is like we don't go to the parties,
- 13:24Speaker 4: we don't go to tea, we don't need to go
- 13:26Speaker 4: to like the faggot mixers or like anything like that.
- 13:29Speaker 4: The only time we integrate is if we see people
- 13:32Speaker 4: on the beach, or if we see people on the
- 13:34Speaker 4: boardwalk when we're going to the pantry. And that's it.
- 13:37Speaker 4: And I love our bubble Rose I do too.
- 13:40Speaker 2: It just does make me sad that like the moments
- 13:44Speaker 2: when I do try to like be part of what's
- 13:50Speaker 2: happening here, it's just like then reinforced how unwelcome or
- 13:57Speaker 2: like different or whatever our presence here is. And you know,
- 14:02Speaker 2: like I'm so grateful that we're at the point in
- 14:05Speaker 2: our lives and have the kind of like access and
- 14:09Speaker 2: like resources and whatever that we can come here and
- 14:12Speaker 2: like have this house and inviight all our friends and
- 14:15Speaker 2: like be a house full of like queer and trans people,
- 14:20Speaker 2: like in a sea of like white gays, but that
- 14:23Speaker 2: we still feel like very invisible and other and like whatever.
- 14:28Speaker 2: It just sucks.
- 14:29Speaker 4: I love feeling secure enough though at this stage in
- 14:32Speaker 4: my life, we're in like at pre previous trips on
- 14:35Speaker 4: Fire Island. If I'm like stuck in the house, then
- 14:37Speaker 4: I'm getting like faggot fomo and I want to go
- 14:39Speaker 4: to like a little faget party and be perceived and
- 14:42Speaker 4: like make out with somebody. And you were just saying
- 14:44Speaker 4: this morning that you want to go to Tea, well,
- 14:45Speaker 4: I was trying to convince Hilton to go to tea
- 14:48Speaker 4: if I'm being honest. But I love that. I don't
- 14:51Speaker 4: feel FuMO, have not felt FuMO this whole weekend. I
- 14:54Speaker 4: don't care about going out. I never feel fum. I
- 14:57Speaker 4: only feel Jomo, Jomo right messing out. Happy birthday to me,
- 15:02Speaker 4: Happy birthday actually though, Happy birthday to Rose. Everybody wish
- 15:05Speaker 4: Rose a happy birthday right the fuck now, and you.
- 15:09Speaker 2: Can send well wishes and nudes to my DM or amma.
- 15:15Speaker 4: Do you have an Amazon? Wishless?
- 15:16Speaker 2: I do not have an Amazon, and I would not
- 15:18Speaker 2: ask our listeners to buy me stuff.
- 15:20Speaker 4: But they would.
- 15:21Speaker 2: But you know what, if you really want to, let's
- 15:24Speaker 2: get in touch and you know we'll figure out with it.
- 15:28Speaker 4: So this week we're going to be talking all about
- 15:30Speaker 4: chain restaurants as promised. We honestly had so much material
- 15:35Speaker 4: to work with we could have talked for another hour.
- 15:37Speaker 4: We maybe need to do a chain restaurants Part two episode,
- 15:40Speaker 4: or we need.
- 15:41Speaker 2: To go to an olive garden and record live as
- 15:45Speaker 2: we eat salad Bay brings Sophoebe. Figure figure out how
- 15:49Speaker 2: we can make that happen. M Chain restaurants the drag
- 16:15Speaker 2: shows of food in a way I suppose.
- 16:21Speaker 4: Because it is it's like a kind of mockery of
- 16:24Speaker 4: real food.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a performance.
- 16:27Speaker 4: It's a performance, and it's and it's like cheapen. It's
- 16:32Speaker 4: like it's the knockoff of real food.
- 16:35Speaker 2: Or it's it's real food to its nth degree.
- 16:40Speaker 4: Yes, oh oh, an exaggeration of real food. Yeah, it
- 16:44Speaker 4: is kind of that, because yeah, I feel like there is.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Chain restaurants are trance. That is the thesis of this episode.
- 16:56Speaker 4: We're starting there. Do you have a chain restaurant that
- 17:00Speaker 4: made you try?
- 17:02Speaker 2: Yeah? Oh, absolutely, okay, and it was McDonald's because I
- 17:05Speaker 2: always toys. I was one of the girl's.
- 17:07Speaker 4: Toy Wait, this is a core childhood trauma that I
- 17:10Speaker 4: feel like all the girls have.
- 17:12Speaker 2: And It's something that I'm currently healing, as we have
- 17:14Speaker 2: talked about, and I think we've talked about on the show.
- 17:17Speaker 2: I'm healing my childhood trauma, specifically around dolls and toys
- 17:22Speaker 2: and collectibles and all collector I've been buying, Like the
- 17:25Speaker 2: Little Mermaid was big for me. I so over a
- 17:28Speaker 2: three week period, I had, I purchased a number of
- 17:33Speaker 2: Happy Meals. I don't want to admit to Okay, we'll
- 17:36Speaker 2: keep the secret, but I will say that I have
- 17:39Speaker 2: three different Flounder toys at home, two Max's and various
- 17:44Speaker 2: other ones. I have almost a full collection. But I
- 17:48Speaker 2: did have to purchase the Ariel and Ursula Happy Meal
- 17:51Speaker 2: toys on.
- 17:51Speaker 4: eBay to get the oh my god, because they weren't
- 17:55Speaker 4: giving you the ones. Yeah, okay, it wasn't giving Well
- 17:57Speaker 4: that's the thing about McDonald's Happy Meal toys.
- 18:00Speaker 2: You cannot request which toy you want. No, try it,
- 18:02Speaker 2: Try it. I could when I was a kid, request
- 18:05Speaker 2: the girl toy.
- 18:07Speaker 4: Did your parents give you the girl toy?
- 18:08Speaker 2: They did to a certain point. I mean generally with dolls,
- 18:12Speaker 2: it was like okay until a certain point, and then
- 18:16Speaker 2: it wasn't really okay anymore.
- 18:18Speaker 4: Do they so now the tall the dolls are genderless,
- 18:21Speaker 4: right like they're they like, don't do that.
- 18:23Speaker 2: They don't do boy girl toys. It's it's one themed
- 18:27Speaker 2: thing for everyone.
- 18:29Speaker 4: Honestly shook with how woke McDonald's is. Now, I bet
- 18:33Speaker 4: you woke.
- 18:33Speaker 2: Moment, woke moment.
- 18:35Speaker 4: I bet I bet people hate on it. Okay, Actually,
- 18:38Speaker 4: you know what I'm gonna say, bring the gender toys back. Okay,
- 18:42Speaker 4: we need to be enforcing gender but that way, but
- 18:45Speaker 4: then are we going to have a third category for
- 18:47Speaker 4: non binary toys?
- 18:48Speaker 2: So we're just gonna be blob.
- 18:53Speaker 4: Silly puddy. Wait, which is the non binary toy of
- 18:56Speaker 4: the Little Mermaid Happy Meal Toys? Sweet?
- 18:59Speaker 2: Is it? I would say it's probably aquaf Probably it's Scuttle.
- 19:05Speaker 2: Scuttle is non binary?
- 19:06Speaker 4: Yes, actually though because Scuttle because, as we discussed in
- 19:10Speaker 4: our Patreon episode briefly, Scuttle, I think in the in
- 19:14Speaker 4: the in the live action is she heard?
- 19:17Speaker 2: Yes?
- 19:18Speaker 4: Which whoa all girl reboot of Scuttle? Hello feminism? Y?
- 19:24Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 19:24Speaker 4: Exactly? Okay, So McDonald's.
- 19:27Speaker 2: Made McDonald's made me trans? So did TGI Fridays kind of?
- 19:32Speaker 2: I had an early birthday party at TGI Fridays, and
- 19:35Speaker 2: I do remember I think receiving a Hansen CD at
- 19:39Speaker 2: it and that definitely helped me become Trands Hansen.
- 19:45Speaker 4: That is a moment.
- 19:47Speaker 2: Chain restaurants are very much tied to birthdays for me
- 19:51Speaker 2: because because early birthdays, it was like, I want the McDonald's,
- 19:55Speaker 2: I want the TGI Fridays, I want like the the
- 19:58Speaker 2: thing that like you don't get to have all the time.
- 20:00Speaker 2: And then as I got older and I wanted to
- 20:03Speaker 2: be a little boogie on the birthdays, it was the
- 20:07Speaker 2: Melting Pot, which is a chain fund restaurant where I
- 20:10Speaker 2: once almost choked to death on a potato. Have I
- 20:12Speaker 2: told this story before? So we were at the Melting
- 20:16Speaker 2: We were at the Melting Pot for my birthday, which
- 20:17Speaker 2: we did every year. And at the Melting Pot, I
- 20:20Speaker 2: don't know if you know this, but it's a restaurant
- 20:22Speaker 2: where you make fun do at the table. There's a
- 20:25Speaker 2: cheese portion of the evening and then there's like the
- 20:29Speaker 2: meat and potatoes and like veggies, and you do cook
- 20:32Speaker 2: a vent and they have those little round new potatoes,
- 20:36Speaker 2: the red ones, and I put one in to cook
- 20:40Speaker 2: and then I when I went to eat it instead
- 20:43Speaker 2: of biting into it, I swallowed a hole and it
- 20:46Speaker 2: was so boiling hot and it got stuck in my
- 20:50Speaker 2: throat and I thought I was going to die on
- 20:52Speaker 2: my birthday and choke to death on this boiling hot potato.
- 20:55Speaker 4: But I got it down cook a all We're like, no.
- 21:00Speaker 2: No, more like more like cock, more like cock in vain. Oh,
- 21:08Speaker 2: then it's traumatic. And then also birthday chains. When I
- 21:11Speaker 2: was at Sleepway Camp, which we talked about recently in
- 21:13Speaker 2: our Summer Camp episode. I had a summer birthday, and
- 21:16Speaker 2: if your parents sent the camp some money, you and
- 21:20Speaker 2: your bunk would get to go out for your birthday, your.
- 21:24Speaker 4: Your bunk, like the whole cabin or like just you just.
- 21:27Speaker 2: Your your your Yeah, your whole cabin. Yeah. You didn't
- 21:31Speaker 2: get to pick and choose friends because that wouldn't be fair,
- 21:34Speaker 2: and you got to go to friendlies. Have you ever
- 21:36Speaker 2: been to a friendly's.
- 21:37Speaker 4: I've never even heard of that.
- 21:38Speaker 2: Friendlies is sort of like TGI Friday's adjacent. It's like
- 21:44Speaker 2: burgers and shakes. And that was, you know, that was
- 21:49Speaker 2: a nice thing I got to do as a kid,
- 21:52Speaker 2: I guess, although I didn't get to have the childhood
- 21:54Speaker 2: birthday experience of your parents bringing cupcakes to school, and
- 21:57Speaker 2: that was very traumatic for me.
- 21:59Speaker 4: I think my parents did do that maybe once, but
- 22:03Speaker 4: not every year. It was like my parents were like,
- 22:06Speaker 4: you know, the rich kids can do that. We weren't
- 22:08Speaker 4: like poor, but my parents were like very They were
- 22:11Speaker 4: just like brugal. Yeah, yeah, yeah, which which chain restaurant
- 22:15Speaker 4: made you trans So I was gonna say, yeah, chain
- 22:17Speaker 4: restaurant's also very attached to birthdays for me. I was
- 22:20Speaker 4: not allowed to go to chain restaurants. My mother did
- 22:22Speaker 4: not take us to McDonald's and all these places. She
- 22:25Speaker 4: wasn't like a health food mom, but she was.
- 22:27Speaker 2: She was almond mom.
- 22:29Speaker 4: No, she was not an almond mom actually, but she
- 22:31Speaker 4: was like, I'm gonna cook for y'all and this is
- 22:33Speaker 4: gonna be quote unquote healthier. But then she'd be making
- 22:35Speaker 4: us like you know, cheese and peas, like masta chicken,
- 22:38Speaker 4: masta choli stuff like nothing that was actually healthy. Anyways.
- 22:42Speaker 2: I would request is chicken masta choli.
- 22:45Speaker 4: Masta chi, masta choli. Baby, it's like a delicious kind
- 22:50Speaker 4: of like pasta, and it's always served with like cheese,
- 22:54Speaker 4: fatty chicken stuff Like it's really delish. Uh So I
- 23:01Speaker 4: would request every year and did throughout my childhood every
- 23:04Speaker 4: year go to Old Country Buffet for my birthday. Have
- 23:08Speaker 4: you ever heard of or been to an Old Country Bath.
- 23:09Speaker 2: I've heard of it, but I've never been to one.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Is it like Golden Corral adjacent?
- 23:13Speaker 4: Yes, it's not. It's because Golden Crawl is specifically Chinese food. No, no, no,
- 23:17Speaker 4: it's not. No Golden Crowd been crowd Southern. Oh, cracker
- 23:22Speaker 4: barrels yes, okay, well cracker bell was not a bufet.
- 23:26Speaker 4: Golden Crawl was right, So yeah, it was exactly the
- 23:29Speaker 4: Golden Crawl maybe of the Midwest, with there was maybe
- 23:33Speaker 4: Golden Crawls in our area, but not in my neighborhood,
- 23:36Speaker 4: like anywhere. But we would drive to Old Country Bathet
- 23:40Speaker 4: and I would experience this this euphour, this ecstasy, this
- 23:45Speaker 4: euphoric like, oh my god, I'm going to eat until
- 23:50Speaker 4: I feel sick kind of moment and loved it, like
- 23:54Speaker 4: would go back for seconds and thirds every time. And
- 23:57Speaker 4: because it only happened once a year, it was so
- 24:00Speaker 4: and I do kind of have that Oh no, I
- 24:03Speaker 4: was gonna say I have the relationship to fast food now,
- 24:05Speaker 4: but I actually do be getting a lot of fast food.
- 24:07Speaker 4: You do be eating a lot of fast I love Popeye's.
- 24:10Speaker 4: It's my number one right now.
- 24:11Speaker 2: I ate so much more fast food living in Los Angeles. Ye,
- 24:14Speaker 2: because I had a car and going to drive throughs
- 24:17Speaker 2: was like amazing.
- 24:18Speaker 4: Yes, I yes, same, I love going to drive through.
- 24:22Speaker 2: It doesn't hit the same when you order fast food
- 24:25Speaker 2: via door dash because it's so cold by the time
- 24:27Speaker 2: you get there. That does not stop me from getting
- 24:28Speaker 2: McDonald's roughly once a week.
- 24:31Speaker 4: Well in a Los Angeles no here, you do it here?
- 24:35Speaker 4: Well do you breakfast? Well? You know, for a while
- 24:37Speaker 4: I had to get those little mermaid happy belts. Yeah, yeah,
- 24:39Speaker 4: look you're on it.
- 24:40Speaker 2: But also like I be craving McDonald's. I and I
- 24:44Speaker 2: have a very specific McDonald's order, but it has changed
- 24:48Speaker 2: recently because I'm not eating red meat but I love McDonald's.
- 24:52Speaker 4: Well, what was your specific McDonald's order? Pre red meat?
- 24:54Speaker 2: So I would get the two cheeseburger meal. I get
- 24:58Speaker 2: no pickles and onions on the cheeseburger, even though I
- 25:00Speaker 2: love pickles. For some reason, I don't like McDonald's pickles.
- 25:05Speaker 2: And then I get a six piece chicken nugget and
- 25:11Speaker 2: two apple pies.
- 25:12Speaker 4: And would you say, would you say, currently McDonald's is
- 25:15Speaker 4: your fave, like your number one my favorite fashioned food
- 25:18Speaker 4: chain restaurant?
- 25:19Speaker 2: Yeah, period, okay, and a favorite of all time always
- 25:22Speaker 2: will never be contested.
- 25:23Speaker 4: Okay, mine is probably Popeyes. My order is two so
- 25:30Speaker 4: one chicken sandwich meal spicy, I get mashed potatoes, and
- 25:35Speaker 4: then I get an extra mashed potatoes because they're so small,
- 25:38Speaker 4: and then and then I also get a mac. I
- 25:41Speaker 4: will maybe ask for a tea lemonade combined combo, so
- 25:45Speaker 4: an Arnold Palmer, and well, yes, yes, an Arnold Palmer.
- 25:49Speaker 4: And then I will order an additional chicken sandwich normal,
- 25:54Speaker 4: not spicy, and get that in so that it's like
- 25:57Speaker 4: I have two chicken sandwiches.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Well you can't. You personally can't eat just one chicken sandwich,
- 26:02Speaker 2: or like any if we're getting sandwiches or meals in general,
- 26:07Speaker 2: you're usually getting two of something.
- 26:09Speaker 4: Yes, I am getting two of something. And you also
- 26:11Speaker 4: know that, like it doesn't matter where we are, what
- 26:14Speaker 4: restaurant we are, like what the circumstances or resources at
- 26:17Speaker 4: our disposals are. I'm getting a chicken ordering the thing
- 26:20Speaker 4: that is the closest to the closest approximation to a
- 26:23Speaker 4: chicken sandwich. Yes, yes, I am.
- 26:25Speaker 2: What do you think is the best fast food chicken sandwich.
- 26:30Speaker 4: Aside from Popeyes?
- 26:32Speaker 5: No?
- 26:32Speaker 4: Do you think Popeye's is the best? One hundred percent?
- 26:35Speaker 4: One hundred percent like it's It's absolutely unbeatable. I don't
- 26:38Speaker 4: know Chick fil a is better. I don't think Chick
- 26:40Speaker 4: fil is better. I don't think Shakeshack is better.
- 26:43Speaker 2: What do you think, Phoebe?
- 26:44Speaker 4: I think, yeah, well, I mean, well, here's the thing.
- 26:48Speaker 4: The raisin Canes Chicken is better raising canes. Oh you
- 26:53Speaker 4: know that one just opened to New York in Times Square.
- 26:56Speaker 4: Though I'll never go raisin Canes.
- 27:00Speaker 2: I moved to LA. I had never had it before,
- 27:02Speaker 2: and at that point they hadn't opened the one in
- 27:04Speaker 2: Burbank yet. And the first weekend that I was in LA,
- 27:08Speaker 2: when I was staying at Cheno's, I drove like forty
- 27:12Speaker 2: five minutes to that raisin Canes, sat in the drive
- 27:15Speaker 2: through for an hour, drove back and ate my raisin canes.
- 27:20Speaker 2: And it's so fucking good. The sauce, the Texas toast,
- 27:25Speaker 2: the coast lap, the zig zag fries.
- 27:27Speaker 4: You honestly, it was you gave me the gift of
- 27:31Speaker 4: raisin canes. I had never heard of this restaurant before,
- 27:33Speaker 4: you go so delicious.
- 27:34Speaker 2: We went there like right before I moved, right.
- 27:36Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. Oh it was so and I
- 27:38Speaker 4: went back Diva like absolutely, and it is the best chicken,
- 27:42Speaker 4: but it's not the best chicken sandwich.
- 27:44Speaker 2: They're the best tenders, you know. What's recently also opened.
- 27:47Speaker 2: I thought this was only an LA thing. But Dave's
- 27:49Speaker 2: Hot Chicken in New York too, That's very good.
- 27:52Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm into Dave's. I hate Blue Ribbon, Blue Ribbon
- 27:57Speaker 4: chicken sandwiches suck and their whole thing is chicken, Like what,
- 28:01Speaker 4: I don't understand it.
- 28:03Speaker 2: What about chain pizza?
- 28:05Speaker 4: Okay, what's your favorite fast food pizza? I used to
- 28:10Speaker 4: really really shit on Dominoes, but it's Dominoes.
- 28:14Speaker 2: No, you used to shit on Dominoes and now dominoeshed.
- 28:18Speaker 2: I now I'm shitting out Dominoes. I was craving Dominoes
- 28:22Speaker 2: recently so badly, and I ordered it. And I also
- 28:26Speaker 2: have a very specific Dominoes order. I get the thin
- 28:29Speaker 2: crust pizza with pepperoni and black olives and pineapple, and
- 28:34Speaker 2: it's so so fucking good and when I got it,
- 28:37Speaker 2: it hit so hard, but then I felt so horrible
- 28:43Speaker 2: afterwards and passed out.
- 28:45Speaker 4: I will I actually, I'm gonna amend my answer. I
- 28:47Speaker 4: don't think Dominoes is my favorite. I don't think I
- 28:49Speaker 4: have a favorite pizza chain restaurant because.
- 28:54Speaker 2: Pizza Hut will really hit it will.
- 28:56Speaker 4: And let me tell you, Papa John's will really hit.
- 28:59Speaker 2: I don't like Papa John's because Papa John's was the
- 29:01Speaker 2: pizza that they sold at school when I was in
- 29:04Speaker 2: high school, and I always hated it. I did like
- 29:07Speaker 2: Pizza Hut because of the stuffed crust and also because.
- 29:10Speaker 4: Of book It. Oh what's book it?
- 29:12Speaker 2: Book It was a program that they introduced when I
- 29:15Speaker 2: was in elementary school, and I guess extended to Phoebe two,
- 29:18Speaker 2: where if you read a certain amount of books, you
- 29:23Speaker 2: got like book it, like stickers or something that you
- 29:26Speaker 2: were able to trade in a Pizza Hut for pizza,
- 29:31Speaker 2: which is like really like it's really sort of like
- 29:35Speaker 2: an insidious program to like weaponize fat kids who liked
- 29:39Speaker 2: to read.
- 29:43Speaker 4: I was drinking my drink.
- 29:45Speaker 2: You got three a week, so did I? So did? I?
- 29:50Speaker 4: Wait, that's so okay.
- 29:51Speaker 2: It really like.
- 29:52Speaker 4: Did probably contribute to THEBC problem in America, as did
- 29:56Speaker 4: many things.
- 30:00Speaker 2: Weaponized like fat kids who like to read totally did so.
- 30:04Speaker 6: It was like Bob, I just finished a book, let's
- 30:05Speaker 6: go to pizza.
- 30:28Speaker 4: Where do you stand on McDonald's versus Burger Well, Burger
- 30:32Speaker 4: King is shit, Like there's nothing. Burger King literally has
- 30:37Speaker 4: nothing to its name.
- 30:38Speaker 2: No whoppers are good, and like what I think. I
- 30:42Speaker 2: think it's objectively a better burger than McDonald's. Burger's because
- 30:47Speaker 2: of the frame that because of the flame broiling, like
- 30:51Speaker 2: you get that charred taste. But their fries suck. I
- 30:55Speaker 2: like that they have onion rings and they have mozzarella sticks.
- 30:58Speaker 4: Does McDonald's have McDonald's the best fries? McDonald's has the
- 31:01Speaker 4: best fries ever in the entire world, and that's partially
- 31:05Speaker 4: because they are cooked in beef fat. And I do
- 31:07Speaker 4: still eat them even though I don't even rend me.
- 31:09Speaker 4: Oh well, that's fine, cheat day.
- 31:13Speaker 2: What about breakfast chains? Dunkin Donuts? Are you a dunkin
- 31:16Speaker 2: Donuts girl? Because it's like such a specific thing. People
- 31:21Speaker 2: who ride for dunkin Donuts like bentha, they ride so hard.
- 31:26Speaker 4: I think the food, I think the menu is good.
- 31:28Speaker 4: I think the donuts are good. I think that the
- 31:31Speaker 4: breakfast sandwich is like fine. I think their coffee is ass,
- 31:35Speaker 4: especially there. I think they're so the thing is okay.
- 31:38Speaker 4: You know, we're in the Golden Girls episode we were
- 31:40Speaker 4: like when people say it's actually good like Dunkin Donuts,
- 31:44Speaker 4: Like when I get it, I'm like, this is actually good.
- 31:46Speaker 4: Is kind of the vibe for me. So I'm only
- 31:48Speaker 4: getting Duncan if I'm in a pinch, because.
- 31:52Speaker 2: It's circumstantial for sure. It's it's like situational. If I'm
- 31:58Speaker 2: like driving somewhere and Duncan is the only thing on
- 32:02Speaker 2: the road, I'm getting Duncan. Well, I'm never searching it out.
- 32:06Speaker 4: The realty is and this is getting us into breakfast
- 32:08Speaker 4: chain restaurant territory. I am miss Starbucks rewards member baby
- 32:14Speaker 4: as am I and I no longer I'm not really
- 32:17Speaker 4: getting Starbucks here in New York, but in LA, Starbucks
- 32:21Speaker 4: multiple times a week and getting.
- 32:23Speaker 2: Multiple times a day.
- 32:24Speaker 1: Yes.
- 32:25Speaker 2: Sometimes the thing I missed on the most about LA
- 32:29Speaker 2: is going to the Starbucks drive through every day every
- 32:33Speaker 2: single day.
- 32:35Speaker 4: I miss having Netflix money, Yeah, I but Starbucks really
- 32:39Speaker 4: like they get it with the pastries, the accouchments, the
- 32:43Speaker 4: breakfast sandwich is. Like actual chain restaurants don't have food
- 32:46Speaker 4: that's as good as Starbucks.
- 32:48Speaker 2: I mean, I really do miss going to the Starbucks
- 32:51Speaker 2: drive through before we recorded in the studio in La
- 32:55Speaker 2: picking up breakfast sandwiches. Two for you.
- 32:58Speaker 4: Angelina's will know that the Starbucks in Los Phelis at
- 33:02Speaker 4: the corner of Hillhurst.
- 33:03Speaker 2: The reserve. Yes, the start.
- 33:05Speaker 4: Well, here's the thing, the Starbucks. The Starbucks that Starbucks
- 33:09Speaker 4: on Hillhurst and Los Felis used to be a reserve
- 33:13Speaker 4: and yeah more it's like I.
- 33:14Speaker 2: Got it's Michelin starts taking away and.
- 33:18Speaker 4: I remember so it was. It was a reserve when
- 33:20Speaker 4: I moved there, and like one day I went and
- 33:22Speaker 4: I was like I had, unfortunately had made friends with
- 33:24Speaker 4: the Burisos at this point, so they were like, hey, Fran,
- 33:26Speaker 4: like one, I got you one Grande cold brew and
- 33:30Speaker 4: a Venti cup with two pumps of simple syrup and
- 33:33Speaker 4: oat comeing right up. And I was like making conversation
- 33:38Speaker 4: and I heard someone behind him say like, oh, yeah,
- 33:41Speaker 4: we aren't a reserve anymore actually, and it was sounded
- 33:44Speaker 4: so sad, and I was like, oh my god. They
- 33:46Speaker 4: got demo.
- 33:46Speaker 2: No, I bet someone killed themself. That's not happened.
- 33:50Speaker 4: Oh my god.
- 33:51Speaker 2: Okay, we have talked about this before, but we can't
- 33:55Speaker 2: talk about chain restaurants not talking about Olive Garden.
- 33:57Speaker 4: Oh my god, what is it? Oh?
- 34:01Speaker 2: No, cheesecave arctory too. We've actually talked about both these
- 34:04Speaker 2: things both on par we have. We talked about Olive Garden.
- 34:07Speaker 2: I believe in our episode with Hunter Harris on the
- 34:09Speaker 2: House of Gucci, because Hunter, much like me, is an
- 34:13Speaker 2: Olive Garden officernado.
- 34:15Speaker 4: And what what is the order at Olive Garden? It's
- 34:17Speaker 4: chicken parm isn't it.
- 34:18Speaker 2: It's I'm actually not like tied to an entred at
- 34:24Speaker 2: Olive Garden because the most important thing at Olive Garden
- 34:27Speaker 2: is the salad and bread sticks. And honestly, like when
- 34:30Speaker 2: I go to Florida, I will usually go to Olive
- 34:33Speaker 2: Garden alone during the day and just get the soup,
- 34:35Speaker 2: salad and breadsticks lunch, and it hits every time. Actually,
- 34:39Speaker 2: one time, when I was a teenager, the only time
- 34:42Speaker 2: in my life I've ever dined and dashed was when
- 34:46Speaker 2: I went to an Olive Garden by myself and realized
- 34:48Speaker 2: I didn't have my wallet with me and ran out
- 34:52Speaker 2: on that check brand. How I like, I went back
- 34:59Speaker 2: with like the Rocho mark, Like they couldn't tell who
- 35:02Speaker 2: I was.
- 35:03Speaker 4: I've never dined and dashed, but I would go with
- 35:07Speaker 4: my fellow theater kids in high school to CEC's Pizza,
- 35:10Speaker 4: which is a buffet, and we would bring gallon sized
- 35:14Speaker 4: ziploc bags to.
- 35:16Speaker 2: Put the pizza.
- 35:18Speaker 4: You're sick, We would bring gallon SiZ ziploc bags and
- 35:20Speaker 4: we would we would be like stuffing like pizza slices
- 35:23Speaker 4: in it and putting it at our backpacks to eat
- 35:25Speaker 4: for lunch for the next week.
- 35:26Speaker 2: Was that the post show restaurant for you with CC's
- 35:30Speaker 2: no ours was Steak and Shake? Oh or Denny's.
- 35:34Speaker 4: Oh wait, we we did kind of Steak and Shake.
- 35:38Speaker 4: I fucking forgot about Steak and Shack and those combo
- 35:40Speaker 4: milkshakes work. And when those when those waiters see a
- 35:46Speaker 4: parking lot full of theater kids roll up at ten
- 35:50Speaker 4: thirty PM, I know they fear for their lives.
- 35:53Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I know. The homophobia that's sitting in their
- 35:56Speaker 2: gut rises up out of them and fill their whole body.
- 36:01Speaker 2: And all they want to do is hate crime. All
- 36:04Speaker 2: of them.
- 36:04Speaker 4: Speaking of homophobic entities, we have to say, going back
- 36:07Speaker 4: to Chick fil A, Uh, it's so good, It's really good,
- 36:10Speaker 4: and everyone, all you gays can grow up.
- 36:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't grow up. Stop being gay.
- 36:17Speaker 4: Every entity is homophobic. Literally, every corporation has transphobic homophog
- 36:23Speaker 4: people at the top at least penning their money, yes, exactly.
- 36:27Speaker 2: And their chicken sandwiches are so good and their mac
- 36:29Speaker 2: and cheese is really good.
- 36:30Speaker 4: Period.
- 36:31Speaker 2: I don't love the waffle fries, and usually if I
- 36:33Speaker 2: get Chick fil A, I'll get a Chick fil A
- 36:36Speaker 2: Chicken sandwich classic, a side of mac and cheese, and
- 36:40Speaker 2: maybe like an order of six nuggets. I don't usually
- 36:44Speaker 2: get fries there.
- 36:46Speaker 4: The waffle fries I love, I do, I honestly so
- 36:50Speaker 4: when Chick fil A, when the homophobic Chick fil A
- 36:53Speaker 4: thing blew up, I was dating this guy in the
- 36:56Speaker 4: city and there was a public protest kiss in at
- 37:02Speaker 4: Chick fil A. It was like a national day where
- 37:04Speaker 4: it's like we're prosting testing Chick fil A by like
- 37:06Speaker 4: doing gay kissing at chick Fila, and I went with
- 37:10Speaker 4: my boyfriend. Actually no, we didn't go purposefully. We were
- 37:15Speaker 4: walking through the city and saw it, and there was
- 37:18Speaker 4: a camera crew outside and like taking photos and like
- 37:21Speaker 4: getting footage of people kissing, and we and we did it.
- 37:23Speaker 4: We kissed in front of and you solve and I
- 37:26Speaker 4: soalved homophobia.
- 37:27Speaker 2: That's beautiful.
- 37:28Speaker 4: I was gonna say that. The thing about Chick fil
- 37:30Speaker 4: A is like it was such a national moment because
- 37:33Speaker 4: of like glad level like organizing around it, you know
- 37:37Speaker 4: what I mean. I fucking wish that we could create
- 37:43Speaker 4: or I fucking wish we could replicate the organizing power
- 37:47Speaker 4: that went into people boycotting Chick fil A the way
- 37:50Speaker 4: we could for literally anything else.
- 37:52Speaker 2: Like it was such wasted energy. No, because it's so
- 37:55Speaker 2: low stakes. That's the only thing that people would show up.
- 37:58Speaker 4: For it at this level.
- 38:00Speaker 2: Sorry to have a thoughtful aside and conversation. Okay, So
- 38:04Speaker 2: I want to ask you. I want to I want
- 38:07Speaker 2: us to do this exercise. If you could build the
- 38:10Speaker 2: perfect the perfect meal of elements from any chain restaurant possible,
- 38:16Speaker 2: what would that meal be? I I'll please. So it's
- 38:22Speaker 2: gonna be McDonald's fries, raising canes, chicken tenders, and the
- 38:29Speaker 2: sauce that goes with them, olive garden breadsticks and salad,
- 38:37Speaker 2: a fountain diet coke from a movie theater, or actually, no,
- 38:44Speaker 2: a fountain coke from a movie theater, actually actually a
- 38:49Speaker 2: mountain dew Baja blast from Taco Bell Babe, and a
- 38:55Speaker 2: Taco Bell shredded chicken caesadia, which they don't anymore because
- 39:00Speaker 2: they got rid of shreaded chicken, and half of a
- 39:04Speaker 2: thin crust Domino's pizza.
- 39:08Speaker 4: This is such a good prompt. Okay, okay, Oh wait,
- 39:13Speaker 4: I forgot about dessert.
- 39:14Speaker 2: I'm I'm gonna say, oh ah a soft serve from
- 39:23Speaker 2: Chick fil A because their soft serve I think is
- 39:25Speaker 2: the best fast food soft serve.
- 39:26Speaker 4: Really.
- 39:27Speaker 2: Yeah, wait, have you ever had.
- 39:29Speaker 4: Dairy queen though?
- 39:31Speaker 2: Okay, then maybe actually a dairy Queen blizzard with vanilla
- 39:36Speaker 2: ice cream and Reese's.
- 39:39Speaker 4: Yeah wait, blizzard blizzard. I actually think the blizzards aren't
- 39:43Speaker 4: that good. I think that Dairy Queen like a chunky
- 39:48Speaker 4: ice cream moment. I do like chunky ice cream as well,
- 39:50Speaker 4: but the blizzards you have to eat with a spoon.
- 39:52Speaker 4: I kind of wish it was suckable. Well don't we all?
- 39:56Speaker 1: Okay?
- 39:58Speaker 4: Okay, so I my first thought honestly, is a Culver's
- 40:02Speaker 4: double butterburger.
- 40:04Speaker 2: Have you never had Culver?
- 40:05Speaker 4: Culver's is a Midwestern chain restaurant. I would also maybe
- 40:09Speaker 4: get a Culver shake as my dessert. I'm making two
- 40:13Speaker 4: things from Culver, Okay, that's fine. I'm gonna go with
- 40:16Speaker 4: McDonald's fries. I feel like because I am a breakfast diva,
- 40:22Speaker 4: it's my favorite meal. I'm gonna throw in a McDonald's
- 40:26Speaker 4: sausage and cheese.
- 40:27Speaker 2: Okay, I'm gonna say not a mcgriddle.
- 40:30Speaker 4: No, well with the midgriddle? Is that the one with
- 40:33Speaker 4: with a pancake. That's a very me I love sweet
- 40:37Speaker 4: and savory, But I do think the classic is the
- 40:40Speaker 4: the sausage and cheese mcgriddle.
- 40:41Speaker 2: Yeah, No, I mean McMuffin.
- 40:43Speaker 4: Yes, the sausage, the sausage sausage negg McMuffin, which has
- 40:46Speaker 4: like a visceral like we would only get those when
- 40:49Speaker 4: my family would go on like vacation and it was
- 40:52Speaker 4: so nice. I would I would probably. No, I would
- 40:56Speaker 4: definitely throw in the the raising canes Texas toast. I
- 41:03Speaker 4: think for chicken, Yeah, it's gonna be raising canes, like
- 41:06Speaker 4: I would pick raising canes over Popeyes, but maybe I
- 41:09Speaker 4: would just get a Popeyes. No, no, no, I would
- 41:12Speaker 4: never get Popeyes separately. I would only ever get the
- 41:14Speaker 4: sandwich and I can't have two sandwiches. No, I can't cheat.
- 41:16Speaker 4: That's crazy, that's crazy. So I'm like, not a soda diva.
- 41:22Speaker 4: And I also feel like I haven't clicked into what
- 41:25Speaker 4: you've clicked into, specifically Fountain drinks, which can you describe
- 41:28Speaker 4: it has like it doesn't have an aspartain in it?
- 41:31Speaker 2: Or like, no, I think it's about the fizz. Yeah,
- 41:34Speaker 2: the carbonation is is very different than if you pop
- 41:37Speaker 2: a can or a bottle.
- 41:38Speaker 4: Well, isn't it a little flat?
- 41:41Speaker 2: No? No, it's it's actually more fizzy then. Well then,
- 41:48Speaker 2: and also I think it's more the syrup is more concentrated.
- 41:51Speaker 4: Than Actually, maybe I need help. Where am I getting
- 41:54Speaker 4: a diet coke?
- 41:57Speaker 2: Hmmm from a gas station?
- 42:01Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, that's it, I'm getting. I'm getting a seven
- 42:05Speaker 4: eleven diet coke. I already said Culver's ice cream. I
- 42:09Speaker 4: have to say when you first asked me, I was like,
- 42:12Speaker 4: I want a frosty, But I literally just got a
- 42:14Speaker 4: Frosty on Sunday. Not that good. Sorry, Wendy's. Frosty's could
- 42:19Speaker 4: be better.
- 42:19Speaker 2: I've never been a Wendy's diva. I've never eaten one
- 42:22Speaker 2: of their weird square burgers. I think I've only had
- 42:24Speaker 2: the chili and a Frosty before.
- 42:27Speaker 4: And then I'm definitely gonna pick the Pizza Hut pizza
- 42:31Speaker 4: that has the stuffed crust.
- 42:34Speaker 2: It's so good.
- 42:35Speaker 4: It's so good. Oh it's disgusting, but it's good.
- 42:38Speaker 2: Something that I forgot that I do want to throw
- 42:40Speaker 2: in is there is a chain in Florida called Miami
- 42:43Speaker 2: Subs and they have amazing euros and also all of
- 42:48Speaker 2: their restaurants would have a huge mural of the ocean
- 42:53Speaker 2: inside and that I was obsessed with that. Oh my god. Wait.
- 42:57Speaker 2: Something that we didn't talk about is with like the
- 43:01Speaker 2: McDonald's of it all the play place.
- 43:04Speaker 4: Oh, I'm sure started a actual pandemic amongst kids with
- 43:09Speaker 4: the amount of germs it exchanged at a play place.
- 43:12Speaker 2: But I loved playing in a play place when I
- 43:14Speaker 2: was a kid.
- 43:15Speaker 4: Yeah I did not, I mean well, I mean I would,
- 43:18Speaker 4: I would. So we only went, as I said, we
- 43:21Speaker 4: only really went to McDonald's for breakfast on vacations. I
- 43:23Speaker 4: had this polish babysitter named Michelle, who would also take
- 43:26Speaker 4: a very polish name. No, it's not, but she would.
- 43:28Speaker 5: Say, like Michelle, why so much just kind of polish,
- 43:37Speaker 5: So she would she would.
- 43:38Speaker 4: I don't know if she was like kind of like
- 43:41Speaker 4: doing it against my parents wishes knowingly, but she would.
- 43:44Speaker 4: Me and my sister would get to go to McDonald's
- 43:47Speaker 4: if Michelle was babysitting, and going to McDonald's is a
- 43:50Speaker 4: very babysitter, yes, vibe it is baby's it's getting babysitter vibes.
- 43:55Speaker 4: And I do babysitter or like your mom's new boyfriend, yes, yes,
- 43:59Speaker 4: and Michelle also give a mom's new boyfriend.
- 44:02Speaker 2: By the way, with Michelle a woman, yes she was.
- 44:06Speaker 4: She was a single mom who worked too hard. So
- 44:09Speaker 4: the only time I would play at the play place was
- 44:11Speaker 4: with Michelle and I just the My only real memories
- 44:15Speaker 4: is that the playplace was frequently closed because someone pissed
- 44:19Speaker 4: shit or vomited on it.
- 44:20Speaker 2: Of course, has anyone ever been murdered in the McDonald's Playplace?
- 44:23Speaker 4: I want for sure, I would bet so much money
- 44:26Speaker 4: on it.
- 44:26Speaker 2: Those feel like a liminal space that like maybe could
- 44:29Speaker 2: be a portal to another dimension. Yeah, like Narnia, Like
- 44:32Speaker 2: if you go in the ballpit, like you like go
- 44:35Speaker 2: through and then all of a sudden, you're like falling
- 44:36Speaker 2: from the sky.
- 44:56Speaker 4: You and I we've been talking a lot about chain restaurants.
- 44:58Speaker 4: I think we honestly are are you passionate about this topic?
- 45:01Speaker 4: And I'm so hungry because of conversation though has been
- 45:05Speaker 4: overwhelmingly positive, And I think we need to talk about
- 45:08Speaker 4: chain restaurants that are shit. And I think that IHOP
- 45:12Speaker 4: and Denny's should go to hell.
- 45:15Speaker 2: Okay, I have a soft spot for Denny's because when
- 45:18Speaker 2: I was in when I was in middle school in
- 45:20Speaker 2: high school, I went to an art school that was
- 45:22Speaker 2: like far away from where I lived and I had
- 45:24Speaker 2: to take a train to school and the train station
- 45:27Speaker 2: that I went to there was a Denny's right next
- 45:29Speaker 2: to it. And when I was in high school, one
- 45:31Speaker 2: of my friend and my favorite thing to do would
- 45:33Speaker 2: be to get dropped off at the train, skip our
- 45:35Speaker 2: first class, and go to Denny's and get breakfast. So
- 45:38Speaker 2: I do have a soft spot for Denny's, but I
- 45:40Speaker 2: do agree that the food is not good.
- 45:42Speaker 4: I have that relationship to waffle House. The food is
- 45:45Speaker 4: not good. But the esthetic value of waffle House is
- 45:49Speaker 4: very you and my brand, Like for sure, it's it's
- 45:51Speaker 4: diner feel. The waitress is kind of giving, like honky Tonk,
- 45:57Speaker 4: kind of like graveyard shift, like Blue Island Tu PACs
- 46:01Speaker 4: a Day, Yeah, blue Inliner and like blonde Extensions.
- 46:04Speaker 2: But I think the thing for me is diners are
- 46:06Speaker 2: a sacred space. I need a non chain diner.
- 46:11Speaker 4: Yes, well, what are the chain diners aside from walchap House, No,
- 46:14Speaker 4: Denny's an ihak Oh yeah, they're diners, right, we're right, Okay,
- 46:17Speaker 4: no non chain diners one hundred and ten percent, except
- 46:21Speaker 4: Cracker Barrel. Is that a diner? No, no, right, it's
- 46:24Speaker 4: a restaurant and a store.
- 46:25Speaker 2: So this weekend when I was in the Catskills, we
- 46:29Speaker 2: went to a restaurant that was the old country Store, okay,
- 46:34Speaker 2: And it was either the kind of restaurant that Cracker
- 46:38Speaker 2: Barrel is based on, or it was trying to reverse
- 46:42Speaker 2: engineer a mom and pop version of the Cracker Barrel.
- 46:46Speaker 2: Like literally, there was a porch out front full of
- 46:49Speaker 2: rocking chairs, there was a country store inside, and then
- 46:52Speaker 2: a restaurant that looked like an unbranded Cracker Barrel.
- 46:55Speaker 4: That's kind of fierce did they were they successful?
- 46:58Speaker 2: The food was very good. I had pair cakes and
- 47:00Speaker 2: they were delicious. It is probably better than cracker barrel Yes,
- 47:03Speaker 2: because actually I really wanted biscuits and gravy and they
- 47:06Speaker 2: didn't have it.
- 47:06Speaker 4: To be honest, cracker barrel food isn't that good?
- 47:09Speaker 2: Like, oh, it runs right through your Yes, the chicken
- 47:12Speaker 2: fried chicken I like.
- 47:13Speaker 4: I love water down coffee, which is part of why
- 47:16Speaker 4: I like Diners.
- 47:18Speaker 2: Same burnt water down coffee.
- 47:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 47:20Speaker 4: I can't really think of anything else that's amazing other
- 47:23Speaker 4: than the biscuits. But the biscuits are better than Popeye's biscuits.
- 47:27Speaker 4: I think they're better than KFC biscuits.
- 47:29Speaker 2: The little like apple, the app hot apples they give
- 47:33Speaker 2: you on the side are good.
- 47:34Speaker 4: They are, but they're not amazing biscuits. They're just like
- 47:38Speaker 4: better than the rest.
- 47:38Speaker 2: But the gravy is great. And I love playing the
- 47:40Speaker 2: little the game, the stick and a Hole game, even
- 47:45Speaker 2: though I'm really bad at it.
- 47:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 47:47Speaker 2: Oh, I love Bookbebo. We went to Bogudbebbo a lot
- 47:50Speaker 2: when I was.
- 47:51Speaker 4: A kid, and you, as an adult, made pilgrimage to
- 47:54Speaker 4: the door design.
- 47:55Speaker 2: I actually never went didn't you. Oh but I did.
- 47:59Speaker 4: Actually, Rose, I will remind you that you fiercely advocate
- 48:03Speaker 4: it for you, me and Phoebe's Christmas party to be
- 48:08Speaker 4: at the Deree designed and it never happens, which we
- 48:11Speaker 4: would have had to I think drive a very far
- 48:14Speaker 4: way to get to or so.
- 48:15Speaker 2: I think it was like an Encino.
- 48:16Speaker 4: Yeah, we had to cancel because of the pandemic. Yeah,
- 48:21Speaker 4: but it was worth it.
- 48:23Speaker 2: That's unfortunate.
- 48:24Speaker 4: Wait, Bukaabeppo is so dystopian to me. It is actually like,
- 48:31Speaker 4: I don't remember anything about the food.
- 48:33Speaker 2: It's it's like family style Italian food. They do have
- 48:36Speaker 2: a pretty bang in chicken marsala.
- 48:38Speaker 4: I don't know if this is no, this is a
- 48:40Speaker 4: chain restaurant, ma Giano's Cana ma Giano's.
- 48:44Speaker 2: I actually once went to Thanksgiving at Maggiano's.
- 48:48Speaker 4: I would go to Thanksgiving at Maggiano's this year.
- 48:52Speaker 2: And I had I had, I had the baked ham.
- 48:55Speaker 2: It was delicious, but very salty.
- 48:57Speaker 4: Maggiano's is legitimately good food, right, I actually haven't had
- 49:01Speaker 4: it since the kids.
- 49:02Speaker 2: No, it's not good.
- 49:03Speaker 4: It's not good, but it's better than cheesecake factory.
- 49:06Speaker 2: No, nothing is better than Cheesecake Factory.
- 49:09Speaker 4: We briefly touched on it. I don't know if you
- 49:12Speaker 4: have a favorite thing at Cheesecake Factory, simply because you
- 49:16Speaker 4: know the menu is roughly the size of like great Expectator.
- 49:19Speaker 2: I love the Evelyn's favorite pasta. They used to have
- 49:23Speaker 2: pine nuts, broccoli, a bunch of stuff. They used to
- 49:27Speaker 2: have a really good shrimp belt that was delicious. And
- 49:31Speaker 2: the bread.
- 49:31Speaker 4: I don't remember anything except the pumper nickel bread in
- 49:35Speaker 4: the bread basket.
- 49:36Speaker 2: Let's talk about chilis.
- 49:40Speaker 4: I've never been.
- 49:41Speaker 2: I love chilies, the chicken crispers, are you kidding me?
- 49:45Speaker 3: The caeso ough chili baby, and the molten lava cake.
- 49:57Speaker 2: Fuck, I've never been. I think go about that at
- 50:01Speaker 2: night when I'm jerking off.
- 50:02Speaker 4: What's the kind of chili? What's like Chili's? But it's
- 50:05Speaker 4: about wings? It's uh is it Chili's?
- 50:09Speaker 2: Wait?
- 50:10Speaker 4: Maybe I have been to Chili's. Does Chilis do a
- 50:12Speaker 4: lot of wings? Do they have like a wings special?
- 50:15Speaker 4: One time I took my friend, my best friend Ben
- 50:17Speaker 4: to like a I think I went to a Chili's whatever,
- 50:22Speaker 4: I don't remember. We ended up spending like a lot
- 50:24Speaker 4: of money at Chili's or at whatever restaurant whatever.
- 50:26Speaker 2: I would go to a Chili's right now, I am
- 50:29Speaker 2: so hungry.
- 50:32Speaker 4: What about arcade chain restaurants? Oh yeah, Chucky Cheese. That
- 50:37Speaker 4: pizza had cracked in it. It was there was sugar
- 50:40Speaker 4: in the sauce.
- 50:41Speaker 2: I didn't spend a lot of time at Chucky Cheese.
- 50:43Speaker 2: As a child, we had a I mean, yes, I
- 50:46Speaker 2: we went to Dave and Busters occasionally, but we had
- 50:51Speaker 2: a local sort of like game restaurant that was called
- 50:54Speaker 2: Wilt Chamberlain's after the I think he's like a basketball guy.
- 50:58Speaker 4: I don't know name for a che restaurant.
- 51:00Speaker 2: Oh. Actually, when I was a kid, so I always
- 51:04Speaker 2: love cheeseburgers. I mean who doesn't. And the best cheeseburger
- 51:08Speaker 2: was at a chain restaurant in Florida called the Roadhouse,
- 51:10Speaker 2: which I think is like a thing that lots of
- 51:15Speaker 2: regions have their own version of. It's the kind of
- 51:17Speaker 2: place where they have peanuts out and like you throw
- 51:20Speaker 2: the shells on the floor. They also have really delicious rolls.
- 51:25Speaker 4: We are currently within walking distance of a David Buster.
- 51:28Speaker 4: Should we go with Phoebe right now and we'll record it.
- 51:31Speaker 4: You're gonna be on the on the Okay, it's gonna
- 51:34Speaker 4: be Phoebe on the street. We're going to David Busters.
- 51:36Speaker 4: We're bringing a microphone. It sounds to.
- 51:40Speaker 2: Me that's a little Dave.
- 51:44Speaker 4: Do you think Do you think Dave and Buster have
- 51:46Speaker 4: ever explored each other's bodies?
- 51:50Speaker 2: I think they have.
- 51:51Speaker 4: Have you ever been to that restaurant where they're just
- 51:53Speaker 4: like mean to you on purpose? What you've what you've
- 51:58Speaker 4: never been to?
- 52:00Speaker 2: What are you talking about? Are you talking about every
- 52:03Speaker 2: restaurant in New Yorks? I don't know?
- 52:05Speaker 4: Okay, no, no, I have to say this because I
- 52:08Speaker 4: know the Virgin's at home will appreciate the reference. There
- 52:11Speaker 4: is a restaurant called ed Dubevics where wait, I need
- 52:15Speaker 4: to actually see if it's a chain restaurant. For I'm
- 52:17Speaker 4: I'm positive it's a chain restaurant.
- 52:20Speaker 2: Ed I've never heard.
- 52:21Speaker 4: I need to tell you, I need to I need
- 52:23Speaker 4: to talk about this. Uh oh, it's not a chain restaurant. Yeah, okay, Okay,
- 52:32Speaker 4: you'll appreciate this. So this is not a chain restaurant.
- 52:35Speaker 4: But I feel like any Virgin from Chicago will understand
- 52:38Speaker 4: that there's a restaurant called Eddabevics where the waiters and
- 52:44Speaker 4: waitresses are mean to you on purpose as part of
- 52:47Speaker 4: their job, and.
- 52:49Speaker 2: They'll like what how means?
- 52:50Speaker 4: So they'll like walk up to the table and be
- 52:52Speaker 4: like here's some fucking menu and like throw menus onto
- 52:54Speaker 4: the table like literally like yeah, and like be like
- 52:56Speaker 4: whatever and like if you need anything, like don't bother me.
- 52:58Speaker 2: Well, they say, like personal insults. You're ugly.
- 53:01Speaker 4: So everyone who sits at the Beebeks has to wear
- 53:05Speaker 4: a hat made of like paper that like twists at
- 53:07Speaker 4: the top. It looks like a like a rotted little
- 53:09Speaker 4: dun's cap that the waiter pulls around your head, like
- 53:12Speaker 4: you know, like around your head and like makes it
- 53:15Speaker 4: for you and they write something on it based on
- 53:17Speaker 4: how you look or whatever. It's like just right the
- 53:21Speaker 4: bat cut or whatever, like no, I'm not joking. And
- 53:25Speaker 4: the end the humor was on that level of like
- 53:27Speaker 4: offensively and it'd be like like closeted, like you know,
- 53:31Speaker 4: like like substitute teacher vibe.

- 55:45Speaker 4: Do we have any like tips or tricks on how
- 55:47Speaker 4: to plan a good group vacation? I feel like we
- 55:50Speaker 4: have actually a lot of tech.
- 55:51Speaker 2: Well I feel like you do because I do not
- 55:54Speaker 2: participate in the planning.
- 55:55Speaker 4: Well, you actually participate in some of that. I would
- 55:58Speaker 4: say that you and I were together to curate a
- 56:01Speaker 4: certain kind of vibe and to make certain components of
- 56:04Speaker 4: bit fun and to make this feel like a different
- 56:06Speaker 4: kind those fire Island troops, not like the other girls,
- 56:09Speaker 4: you know what I mean. First and foremost, Okay, let's
- 56:12Speaker 4: talk about rule number one. Okay, Rule number one is
- 56:16Speaker 4: you don't invite anybody to our house unless you tell
- 56:19Speaker 4: the house first.
- 56:20Speaker 2: Yes, And the house does get to decide whether or
- 56:23Speaker 2: not that person gets to come yes.
- 56:25Speaker 4: And why is that rose.
- 56:26Speaker 2: Because someone can show up and really harsh the vibe,
- 56:29Speaker 2: and especially on this island specifically, Yeah, is full of
- 56:35Speaker 2: entitled hot people.
- 56:36Speaker 4: That are friends of friends of friends. People will absolutely
- 56:40Speaker 4: just show up and be like can I charge my phone? Right?
- 56:44Speaker 2: And also it's like a lot of people who don't
- 56:46Speaker 2: necessarily have their own situation here, and like I have
- 56:49Speaker 2: been one of them my first couple of years. Coming
- 56:51Speaker 2: here was always like staying at someone's house and.
- 56:54Speaker 4: Like, love you, power to you, but this is not
- 56:56Speaker 4: a hostile no, And people will show up and then
- 57:01Speaker 4: just not leave, and then they'll eat your lunch and
- 57:04Speaker 4: then they'll be nude in the pool without telling anybody first,
- 57:08Speaker 4: and they'll mooch off of your drugs and they won't
- 57:11Speaker 4: know the vibe at all.
- 57:12Speaker 2: Yeah, and they will literally like try to stay until
- 57:15Speaker 2: everyone's going to sleep, and they will try to sleep
- 57:17Speaker 2: their tent.
- 57:17Speaker 4: And it's like no, no, get out of the house.
- 57:20Speaker 2: Yeah, because we, I mean, as I'm sure with all
- 57:24Speaker 2: the other people here, have put a lot of work
- 57:26Speaker 2: into curating the right group, the right vibe, the you know,
- 57:32Speaker 2: planned meals and activities, and you know, it's just not
- 57:38Speaker 2: it's not the move to just show up or to
- 57:43Speaker 2: invite someone over without letting everyone else know. And I
- 57:48Speaker 2: now that I'm almost thirty five, I turn thirty five
- 57:52Speaker 2: on Friday, Like, I am totally fine being like no,
- 57:55Speaker 2: actually your friend shouldn't come over.
- 57:57Speaker 4: I will actually say I'm not just really fine. I
- 58:00Speaker 4: actually enjoy Yeah, I actually enjoyed being like, hey, sorry
- 58:05Speaker 4: to be mean, mommy, but actually, like we've worked really
- 58:07Speaker 4: hard on this trip and we all pay a lot
- 58:08Speaker 4: of money to be here, and you shouldn't even apologize
- 58:11Speaker 4: for being mean, mom. You should just say like, hey,
- 58:13Speaker 4: like no, so logistically speaking, this isn't gonna work out. Yeah,
- 58:16Speaker 4: that's all it has to be. But yeah, no, I
- 58:19Speaker 4: think that's a very important rule. In terms of meals.
- 58:22Speaker 4: We kind of do a half plan, half pantry. It's
- 58:26Speaker 4: like we you know, justin our beautiful friend has given
- 58:31Speaker 4: us three full dinners that were like planned ahead and
- 58:35Speaker 4: I brought tons of groceries. Yep. Four Oh my god,
- 58:38Speaker 4: right furday Friday, Saturdays. Wow, that's it was like, honestly incredible.
- 58:42Speaker 4: What have we eaten so far? I feel like it's
- 58:44Speaker 4: so we had what was the first night we can
- 58:48Speaker 4: do that order? We did? We had a delicious ribs.
- 58:52Speaker 2: We had ribs one night, we had wings. Last night
- 58:55Speaker 2: there were meatball subs.
- 58:57Speaker 1: Oh.
- 58:57Speaker 2: And then the first night Amy made the salmon which
- 58:59Speaker 2: was so oh. Also some incredible desserts, like our friend
- 59:02Speaker 2: Amy made pavlova, which was so fucking good. I've had
- 59:09Speaker 2: an agent not a not a dessert that I like
- 59:11Speaker 2: frequently eat.
- 59:12Speaker 4: And a dessert that's difficult to make in this climate.
- 59:15Speaker 2: Honestly, So when it comes to the meal prep, planning
- 59:20Speaker 2: and execution, I recuse myself, Yes you do, because I
- 59:26Speaker 2: don't cook. I don't like to cook.
- 59:30Speaker 4: I'm not.
- 59:32Speaker 2: A you know. And we are traveling with people who
- 59:38Speaker 2: love who get such joy from not only cooking for
- 59:42Speaker 2: other people, but all of the work that goes into that.
- 59:46Speaker 2: So all I want to do is step out of
- 59:47Speaker 2: their way and let them and so once they leave,
- 59:51Speaker 2: it does become more of an every trend for her
- 59:53Speaker 2: self situation. But we did not for dinners. Not for dinners.
- 59:57Speaker 2: We you know, we went chopping this morning and got
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: easy stuff to make, like stuff to grill burgers and
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: hot dogs and that kind of shit and you know,
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: like pasta, and it's just going to be a lot
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: scrappier for the next couple of days.
- 1:00:11Speaker 4: And that is totally fine. Yeah, I mean, I will say, so,
- 1:00:15Speaker 4: I'm gonna I'm gonna be maybe grill daddy for the day. Mommy, No,
- 1:00:20Speaker 4: I'm gonna be grill daddy. Okay, yeah, I think I
- 1:00:22Speaker 4: I think I have to be grilled daddy. I don't
- 1:00:24Speaker 4: know if there is a grill mommy archetype.
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: That's perfect because I did not know how those things
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: were going to get cooked.
- 1:00:31Speaker 4: Really happy that you're on top of it. Yeah, I'm
- 1:00:33Speaker 4: so lad I was socialized as a man. We should
- 1:00:35Speaker 4: have gotten some coleslaw or something. Oh no, we have
- 1:00:40Speaker 4: the greens, and we can actually whip up a kind
- 1:00:42Speaker 4: of coleslaw using greens or like potato salad or yeah,
- 1:00:47Speaker 4: well we'll just we'll just do salad. Yeah, it's fine.
- 1:00:49Speaker 4: And then I'm you're hearing it live. Yeah, you're hearing
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: it live. I'm also going to be doing a Alison
- 1:00:55Speaker 4: Rowman big pot pasta with sausage and broccolien, and you're
- 1:00:59Speaker 4: gonna make an ice box cake. I'm going to make
- 1:01:01Speaker 4: an ice box cake. I'm going to make kish for breakfast,
- 1:01:04Speaker 4: and we're also going to do breakfast tacos at some point.
- 1:01:08Speaker 4: But no, that's half plan, half pack. Justin literally made
- 1:01:12Speaker 4: a pie and brought it here, Like I kept all
- 1:01:15Speaker 4: the condiments and sauces, made a homemade a hummus like
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: a caramel, the fish sauce caramel? Was it for me?
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: Just like having to carry all that stuff on the boardwalk,
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: like I was struggling walking to the house from the
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: pier with just my luggage. Yeah. I have not been
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: that like sweaty and gross after a like a commute,
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: a ten minute walk in a long time.
- 1:01:41Speaker 4: I have to say something I've learned about myself in
- 1:01:44Speaker 4: my thirties. I don't want to schlep. I don't want
- 1:01:47Speaker 4: to schlep. I don't want to schlep anything for anyone.
- 1:01:50Speaker 4: And if I can pay eight dollars to the pine's pantry, yeah,
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: to deliver our groceries, which they did well.
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: That's why when this morning when they offered us delivery
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: and everyone was like, oh, well we could tell.
- 1:01:59Speaker 4: I was like, no, we're paying that. Those fourteen year
- 1:02:03Speaker 4: old girls better bring it over stat yes.
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: Oh, the girlies who work at the Pines Pantry are
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: either our strongest allies or the.
- 1:02:14Speaker 4: Most homophobic people in the world. And we have no idea.
- 1:02:16Speaker 4: We have no idea, And I love that mystery. Yeah,
- 1:02:20Speaker 4: not knowing. I don't need to know. I don't need that.
- 1:02:22Speaker 4: None of my business. It truly is none of my business.
