- 0:00Speaker 1: My close remarks today has something to do with the
- 0:04Speaker 1: opening of the show. Junior asked me a question about
- 0:11Speaker 1: monitoring your expectations. Was that what it was, monitoring your expectations,
- 0:16Speaker 1: managing managing your expectations, And it caused me to do
- 0:21Speaker 1: some thinking. And I was saying to him this morning,
- 0:25Speaker 1: we as people, you got to be keenly aware of
- 0:29Speaker 1: all of these things slogans that's out there that people
- 0:35Speaker 1: confuse with words of wisdom. Every slogan you hear is
- 0:41Speaker 1: not a word of wisdom. See, I've learned from every
- 0:47Speaker 1: self help book I've ever read. All of them are
- 0:50Speaker 1: based on the principles in the Bible, all of them.
- 0:54Speaker 1: All self help books are based on the Secret the
- 0:59Speaker 1: theory of the law of attraction, or the magic of
- 1:03Speaker 1: thinking Big Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale. Every I
- 1:08Speaker 1: could go on. In the Winner's Circle by Dexter Wansol,
- 1:11Speaker 1: I could go on and on and on, But every
- 1:14Speaker 1: single one of them have taken all of their thoughts
- 1:20Speaker 1: from the principles of the Bible. So when we were
- 1:24Speaker 1: talking earlier and Junie was talking about managing your expectations,
- 1:29Speaker 1: people like I said, you gotta be careful because everything
- 1:32Speaker 1: you hear is not a wise saying. Some of these
- 1:35Speaker 1: are just slogans, and a lot of things are created
- 1:40Speaker 1: to limit you and to explain a person's failure. I
- 1:45Speaker 1: give you another one. Don't put all your eggs in
- 1:49Speaker 1: one basket. They call that words of wisdom. But you
- 1:52Speaker 1: gotta look at that slogan and analyze it very carefully.
- 1:58Speaker 1: So what they're saying is, don't put all of your
- 2:02Speaker 1: everything into one basket now, Because now that's true. It
- 2:08Speaker 1: depends on what the basket is, though, and it depends
- 2:12Speaker 1: on what your basket is constructed of. If your basket
- 2:17Speaker 1: is constructed of faith in God, prayer and hard work,
- 2:24Speaker 1: I'm gonna dump everything I got into that basket because
- 2:28Speaker 1: then it would allow me to put my all, in
- 2:30Speaker 1: all behind this one effort. So be careful of that,
- 2:34Speaker 1: because I don't know how to be successful unless you
- 2:37Speaker 1: give you all. I just don't know how to be
- 2:40Speaker 1: successful at anything until you give it your all. Now,
- 2:44Speaker 1: when that drives up and it's time to move on,
- 2:46Speaker 1: put your all into something else. There's another one. Always
- 2:51Speaker 1: have a plan b I've never agreed with this one
- 2:55Speaker 1: sounds like words of wisdom. Okay, that's in case Plan
- 2:58Speaker 1: eight on work. But in order to have a Plan B,
- 3:01Speaker 1: you must construct the Plan B. But while you're constructing
- 3:06Speaker 1: your Plan B, it takes away the time and efforts
- 3:10Speaker 1: you could be using to construct your Plan A. Everybody
- 3:14Speaker 1: that I know that had a Plan B had to
- 3:17Speaker 1: use it. It's like a prenup in a marriage. I
- 3:21Speaker 1: don't know a single couple that's got a prenup that
- 3:24Speaker 1: didn't use it. Because you plan from the outset, this
- 3:29Speaker 1: is the end event that something go wrong, So now
- 3:31Speaker 1: you've prepared for an out. Look. I'm not saying you
- 3:35Speaker 1: shouldn't have a prenump. You can do what you want
- 3:37Speaker 1: to do. I'm just telling you, if you have one,
- 3:40Speaker 1: you're gonna use it, because I don't know a single
- 3:42Speaker 1: couple that had a prenup that didn't use it. Think
- 3:45Speaker 1: about it, y'all, because you're you're not planning on making
- 3:49Speaker 1: it to the tape. Because you have an out, and
- 3:52Speaker 1: the moment you decide that the price of the out
- 3:54Speaker 1: is adequate, you're gonna take it. I ain't gotta put
- 3:57Speaker 1: up with this no more. See you gotta here's another one.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Be careful statistics. One in every so and so this happens.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Wait a minute. You know what I was told a
- 4:07Speaker 1: long time ago, one in every twenty thousand comedians will
- 4:12Speaker 1: make it to the Tonight Show. That was something somebody
- 4:14Speaker 1: told me. I don't even know if it's the truth
- 4:16Speaker 1: to statistics, but sitting around with a bunch of young
- 4:19Speaker 1: comedians back in the eighties and we were all talking
- 4:22Speaker 1: about it, and this guy said, you know, one in
- 4:24Speaker 1: every twenty thousand comedians making on the Tonight Show, and
- 4:27Speaker 1: you can't become a star unless you get green lit
- 4:30Speaker 1: by Johnny Carson on the Tonight Show. So what I
- 4:34Speaker 1: decided was I'll be one of the ones. So every
- 4:38Speaker 1: night before I walked on stage, I used to harm
- 4:40Speaker 1: this and then I'd be pacing in the background till
- 4:46Speaker 1: they said ladies and gentlemen from Cleveland House Steve Hardy,
- 4:49Speaker 1: and then I run on stage. Well, you know what,
- 4:53Speaker 1: I never met Johnny Carson. I never sat on this show.
- 4:56Speaker 1: I've been on the Tonight Show with Jay Lenole, but
- 4:59Speaker 1: it was after I had already gained enough notoriety to
- 5:03Speaker 1: be a guest on his show. I just decided I
- 5:06Speaker 1: was gonna be the one. But what statistics do is
- 5:10Speaker 1: it justifies a person who's looking for a way not
- 5:12Speaker 1: to be successful. One and the only one in US
- 5:16Speaker 1: so many people. It's one in up millions of chance
- 5:20Speaker 1: to win the Power Lottery. But if you don't play it,
- 5:24Speaker 1: that percentage drops to zero. And then when somebody win it,
- 5:28Speaker 1: you're gonna wire they want but they played. Y'all, be
- 5:33Speaker 1: very conscious as you move into life about things that
- 5:36Speaker 1: people are called wise sayings, because they might just be
- 5:40Speaker 1: something somebody said to justify why they are where they are.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Be conscious of that. Talk to God, he'd absolutely love.
- 5:49Speaker 2: And this.
