- 0:17Speaker 1: Welcome back to a new episode of Podcasts on the
- 0:20Speaker 1: Brink Thursday, August twenty eighth. Jordan Majeski, first time guest
- 0:27Speaker 1: on Podcasts of the Brink from Basket Under Review, is
- 0:31Speaker 1: here to talk IU basketball, variety of other Big Ten
- 0:35Speaker 1: Basketball centric topics. As you know, we talk IU and
- 0:39Speaker 1: Big Ten hoops all year round here on Podcasts on
- 0:41Speaker 1: the Brink. If you enjoy the show, please leave us
- 0:44Speaker 1: a rating and review over on Apple Podcasts, a five
- 0:46Speaker 1: star rating over on Spotify. If you're watching on YouTube,
- 0:49Speaker 1: please subscribe to the channel like the video. It really
- 0:51Speaker 1: helps us increase our reach over on YouTube. Jordan, I've
- 0:56Speaker 1: followed you for a long time on x formerly to Twitter.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Always enjoyed your takes on college basketball. You know, I'd
- 1:06Speaker 1: noticed a while back that your bio had said you're
- 1:08Speaker 1: based in Bloomington. Just kind of before we get into
- 1:13Speaker 1: this week's episode, I know you're doing stuff now for
- 1:15Speaker 1: Basket Under Review, but you've been kind of in the
- 1:18Speaker 1: college basketball social media sphere for a while. How did
- 1:21Speaker 1: you kind of get involved about involved in writing about
- 1:24Speaker 1: college basketball, talking about college basketball and kind of where
- 1:28Speaker 1: maybe some of the formative moments I guess growing up
- 1:31Speaker 1: in college hoops that kind of made you fall in
- 1:33Speaker 1: love with the sport.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Yeah, first self, thanks for having me long time reader
- 1:38Speaker 2: and listener of the site. But yeah, I just have
- 1:42Speaker 2: been a big college basketball fan from you know, the beginning.
- 1:47Speaker 2: I actually grew up in Terre Hate, so I would
- 1:49Speaker 2: go to every Indiana State game and so I kind
- 1:52Speaker 2: of have a love of the Missouri Valley and mid
- 1:54Speaker 2: majors in general, and that's kind of where it started.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Where I would I noticed her wasn't a lot of
- 1:59Speaker 2: cover of those teams and the teams that I grew
- 2:02Speaker 2: up watching, and uh so I thought i'd, you know,
- 2:05Speaker 2: share my thoughts on those as social media grew, and
- 2:09Speaker 2: you know, my my presence in college basketball media also
- 2:13Speaker 2: grew because of social media. So yeah, you know, without that,
- 2:17Speaker 2: I probably not be writing about it as often as
- 2:21Speaker 2: I do now. But yeah, just started with watching Indiana
- 2:24Speaker 2: State basketball the s and they were not they were
- 2:28Speaker 2: not good, and.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Yeah they've gotten I guess, you know, they were good
- 2:34Speaker 1: a couple of years ago now with I guess kind
- 2:36Speaker 1: of now in a bit of a transition period again.
- 2:38Speaker 1: But you know, I know you're involved with basket and
- 2:40Speaker 1: review writing some some stuff from them. How did how
- 2:43Speaker 1: did that opportunity come about? And kind of what are
- 2:45Speaker 1: you guys? Obviously want to give you a chance to
- 2:47Speaker 1: talk about about that, because that's the that's for for
- 2:49Speaker 1: those who don't know. It's the Truly Donovan h kind
- 2:52Speaker 1: of basketball vertical. They have podcasts, they have written content.
- 2:56Speaker 1: They also includes the discord over Truly Donovany she subscriber
- 3:00Speaker 1: were there, which I'm sure a lot of people listening
- 3:01Speaker 1: to this podcast already do. But what kind of your
- 3:05Speaker 1: involvement there? What are you writing about? And what are
- 3:08Speaker 1: some of the things that the people can can check
- 3:10Speaker 1: out over there?
- 3:11Speaker 2: Yeah, so that started, you know, more or less the
- 3:14Speaker 2: same way as how I got started in basketball writing
- 3:17Speaker 2: in general. Trilly was just a fan on social media,
- 3:21Speaker 2: reached out to me and asked if I'd be interested,
- 3:23Speaker 2: and then he gave me a list of all the
- 3:25Speaker 2: people involved, you know, and like Kevin Sweeney, three Man Weave, guys,
- 3:32Speaker 2: fellow i U, will Eme and Brennan.
- 3:34Speaker 1: You know.
- 3:34Speaker 2: I was like, well, those guys are some of my
- 3:37Speaker 2: you know, the people I read, so great opportunity to
- 3:41Speaker 2: work with them, And right now I've just been working
- 3:43Speaker 2: on first year head coaches in Division one, so guys
- 3:47Speaker 2: that were high major assistants, a couple of guys who
- 3:50Speaker 2: moved up from the Division two ranks, things like that,
- 3:53Speaker 2: what kind of schemes to expect from them, style play
- 3:55Speaker 2: and whatnot as they you know, embark on their first year.
- 3:59Speaker 1: So there an investigation with the basket under review writers
- 4:04Speaker 1: to try to figure out who Trill he is or
- 4:05Speaker 1: is it kind of an unwritten rule that that you
- 4:07Speaker 1: don't that you don't go.
- 4:08Speaker 2: There unwritten rule. Yeah. I at this point, you know,
- 4:14Speaker 2: he's there's no chance he's gonna tell us, even the
- 4:17Speaker 2: guys who work with him. So uh, you know, I
- 4:20Speaker 2: just plug in my articles, talk with the guys in
- 4:24Speaker 2: the private chat. But yeah, no one is ever like
- 4:27Speaker 2: you know, trying to put some clues together as to
- 4:30Speaker 2: who he can get actually be.
- 4:32Speaker 1: I always get a kick out of the Twitter threads
- 4:34Speaker 1: where someone goes down a rabbit hole and they have
- 4:36Speaker 1: like twenty different tweets like I figured it out, and
- 4:39Speaker 1: then he always will like reply, well if that's not it.
- 4:42Speaker 1: So it's at this point I think we're allays on
- 4:44Speaker 1: to the fact that he's going to remain a mystery
- 4:46Speaker 1: man as long as he wants to, which is which
- 4:48Speaker 1: is good because I think for for many reasons, you know,
- 4:53Speaker 1: one one good thing about his platform, one thing I
- 4:55Speaker 1: really enjoyed just about everything he's been able to do,
- 4:58Speaker 1: is you know, there's a comfort level in giving him information,
- 5:02Speaker 1: clearly with a lot of these coaches in these programs,
- 5:04Speaker 1: and a lot of that is because they, you know,
- 5:07Speaker 1: the anonymity of it. And I think he probably grants
- 5:10Speaker 1: the anonymity to to a lot of the people that
- 5:13Speaker 1: are giving him info and and it goes both ways.
- 5:15Speaker 1: So I think it's you know, a lot of people
- 5:17Speaker 1: have always wondering, you know, they asking is it this
- 5:19Speaker 1: person that I think, I think we're always better off
- 5:22Speaker 1: just accepting it for what it is and realizing that,
- 5:25Speaker 1: you know, he's he's built a great platform, and it's
- 5:28Speaker 1: good to see you know, the site out and thriving
- 5:32Speaker 1: and hopefully continues to grow, because I think that's kind
- 5:34Speaker 1: of one thing that I've noticed over you know, the
- 5:37Speaker 1: last you know, I've been doing this in two thousand
- 5:39Speaker 1: and seven, but I feel like the national coverage of
- 5:41Speaker 1: college basketball is kind of gone downhill maybe in the
- 5:45Speaker 1: last you know, five to ten years, and you know,
- 5:48Speaker 1: we've we've lost some really good I mean, John Gasoway
- 5:50Speaker 1: was somebody that I really loved to read for a
- 5:53Speaker 1: long time at ESPN, and you know, I would I
- 5:55Speaker 1: would message John and read his stuff and have him
- 5:58Speaker 1: on the show. And he's not writing, and there's just
- 6:00Speaker 1: been a lot of different things that have come and gone,
- 6:04Speaker 1: and to see something like this, I hope it's successful
- 6:07Speaker 1: and I hope people support it. So good luck with
- 6:10Speaker 1: everything there and we'll continue to follow along.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Thank you. Yeah, we're trying to be a unique voice
- 6:14Speaker 2: because I think I agree with you the coverage in
- 6:17Speaker 2: general has become a bit monolithic and herded, you know,
- 6:20Speaker 2: like it's one one guy says something and it's kind of,
- 6:24Speaker 2: you know, the same thing that everybody else starts saying.
- 6:27Speaker 2: And like you said, Gasaway, I loved him. He was
- 6:29Speaker 2: a unique voice. So that's what we're trying to sure.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Yeah. Absolutely. I remember sending you a message back in
- 6:36Speaker 1: March when Indiana landed on Darren Devrees as the Higher
- 6:40Speaker 1: and you know, I don't want to quote what you said.
- 6:44Speaker 1: It was a direct message, but you know you seemed
- 6:47Speaker 1: positive on the Higher. And now as we sit here,
- 6:50Speaker 1: what about a little bit over five months removed and
- 6:52Speaker 1: Iana gets ready for its first season. We've obviously had
- 6:55Speaker 1: the trip down to Puerto Rico, which we had Josh
- 6:57Speaker 1: Posen inside the hall down there covering those games. Hard
- 7:00Speaker 1: to really make a lot out of exhibition games in
- 7:02Speaker 1: early August, but it was an opportunity to get some
- 7:04Speaker 1: film on this team. See a couple of the guys.
- 7:07Speaker 1: But you know, one reason I want to have you
- 7:09Speaker 1: on is you're kind of going around. I know you've
- 7:11Speaker 1: done it more from at the lower levels in terms
- 7:14Speaker 1: of what you're doing in a basket un review, but
- 7:15Speaker 1: I know you look at all of these hires around
- 7:18Speaker 1: the country. What about the Darren de Reese higher in
- 7:21Speaker 1: Indiana is intriguing from your side of things? And what
- 7:26Speaker 1: can maybe make this outcome different than what we've seen
- 7:29Speaker 1: with the past couple of hires. And I won't go
- 7:31Speaker 1: back to Tom Green because I think in a lot
- 7:33Speaker 1: of ways he did have a relatively good amount of success,
- 7:37Speaker 1: you know, winning two Big ten titles and getting to
- 7:39Speaker 1: some Sweet sixteens. But you know, the two more recent
- 7:42Speaker 1: hires with Archie Miller and Mike Woodson, there was optimism
- 7:45Speaker 1: about those hires for different reasons at different points and
- 7:47Speaker 1: there was some success, but ultimately both guys get let
- 7:50Speaker 1: go over to four years. But is there anything you
- 7:52Speaker 1: look at with the reason say maybe this could be different.
- 7:55Speaker 2: Yeah. I think everyone that follows I, you know, IU
- 8:00Speaker 2: fans or they're just starved for some form of modern offense.
- 8:04Speaker 2: And I think that's the key here with Devrees is
- 8:07Speaker 2: that you know it's going to be spacing, a return
- 8:11Speaker 2: to shooting. I think everybody is, you know, finally ready
- 8:15Speaker 2: to see some threes fall at a high rate, like
- 8:17Speaker 2: everybody else in the country does. That's successful, and so yeah,
- 8:21Speaker 2: just a modernization of you know, the Miller and Woodsonara's
- 8:26Speaker 2: kind of just blended into a you know, kind of
- 8:31Speaker 2: slog fest of playing the wrong personnel and just not
- 8:35Speaker 2: exciting basketball. And it was hard to get excited about
- 8:38Speaker 2: IU every year with the same result. So you know,
- 8:41Speaker 2: it's going to be spacing pace, you know, the kind
- 8:45Speaker 2: of He's from the Greg McDermott school of you know,
- 8:49Speaker 2: like read and react offense and flow offense and all
- 8:52Speaker 2: of the stuff that you hear about in modern college basketball.
- 8:56Speaker 2: And yeah, you know, Devrees hasn't had I don't think
- 8:59Speaker 2: he's ever had at Drake or West Virginia, a team
- 9:02Speaker 2: that was in the top fifty national top fifty percent
- 9:05Speaker 2: sorry nationally in rim rate. So it's going to be
- 9:09Speaker 2: just spread basketball and a lot of threes and hopefully
- 9:12Speaker 2: a lot of makes. And he's got the personnel to
- 9:14Speaker 2: obviously do that.
- 9:15Speaker 1: So looking at this year Ears roster in particular, I
- 9:18Speaker 1: think the biggest question that I'm getting in the preseason,
- 9:20Speaker 1: and I think the biggest question fans have is the
- 9:24Speaker 1: front court and just how that's going to play with
- 9:27Speaker 1: in a Big Ten that as we both know covered
- 9:29Speaker 1: watched the league as long as we have. There's certain
- 9:31Speaker 1: teams where they're gonna just try to pound the ball
- 9:34Speaker 1: and sign on certain nights and you're gonna have to
- 9:36Speaker 1: be able to stop that. Maybe maybe less so now
- 9:40Speaker 1: than it was, you know, five, ten, fifteen years ago,
- 9:42Speaker 1: but there are you look around the league. I mean,
- 9:44Speaker 1: Michigan obviously they're going to play a modern style, but
- 9:47Speaker 1: they have talent in the front court. They have bigs
- 9:50Speaker 1: that can score on the rim. Same thing with with Illinois, Purdue.
- 9:54Speaker 1: Just kind of go down the list, you know, the
- 9:55Speaker 1: best teams in the league are kind of well rounded
- 9:58Speaker 1: where they can all hit the shots from the Premi
- 10:00Speaker 1: and Russell score in the paint. When you look at
- 10:03Speaker 1: this Indiana roster, obviously, there's some things to be excited
- 10:06Speaker 1: about with Tayton Connorway, Lamar Wilkerson, Reed Bailey, really solid
- 10:10Speaker 1: transfer portal pickups. Tucker de Reese obviously is kind of
- 10:13Speaker 1: the headliner coming along with with with Darren from West Virginia.
- 10:18Speaker 1: But what's maybe your biggest question mark when you look
- 10:21Speaker 1: at this roster going into next season in terms of
- 10:23Speaker 1: whether they can be, you know, a top half Big
- 10:26Speaker 1: Ten team. I don't think anyone is looking at Indiana
- 10:28Speaker 1: and saying they're gonna be a team that contends for
- 10:29Speaker 1: the Big Ten title. But I do think fans want
- 10:32Speaker 1: to see, you know, at least a team that's competing
- 10:34Speaker 1: for an NCAA tournament birth and I think you got
- 10:37Speaker 1: to be somewhere in the top half probably to feel
- 10:40Speaker 1: pretty good about your chances to do that.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you hit the nail on the head
- 10:45Speaker 2: at the beginning of the front court and specifically the
- 10:49Speaker 2: physicality of it. You know, read Bailey is not a
- 10:53Speaker 2: banger in the paint, So it was really encouraging to
- 10:56Speaker 2: see Sam Alexis play the way he did in Puerto Rico.
- 10:58Speaker 2: I think to me that was the big takeaway from
- 11:01Speaker 2: the whole trip was that he you know, was physical
- 11:05Speaker 2: and he wasn't just you know, a blocks and boards
- 11:08Speaker 2: type guy. He actually had some offensive upside to him
- 11:12Speaker 2: as well. So I think Alexis is the key there
- 11:14Speaker 2: really because the other the other front court members are
- 11:17Speaker 2: just not guys who can you know, defend at the
- 11:20Speaker 2: rim at a high level, and Alexis can and he's
- 11:22Speaker 2: going to be Divrees is you know, big proponent of
- 11:28Speaker 2: drop coverage, just like almost all analytically savvy coaches are
- 11:33Speaker 2: now with their defensive schemes. So you know, Alexis showed
- 11:37Speaker 2: that he can be that drop five that you know,
- 11:39Speaker 2: can protect the rim at a high level. We'll see
- 11:42Speaker 2: how that holds up, you know, against non Puerto Rican competition,
- 11:46Speaker 2: but to me, that was by far the biggest takeaway.
- 11:49Speaker 2: You know, we saw the offense from Wilkerson which we
- 11:51Speaker 2: expected to see. Devrees didn't play, he didn't shoot it
- 11:55Speaker 2: at an efficient level. But you know, I expect his
- 11:57Speaker 2: offense to round into form as he gets back into
- 12:00Speaker 2: you know, playing shape in the routine of it after
- 12:03Speaker 2: his shoulder injury. But yeah, to me, alexis kind of
- 12:08Speaker 2: shoring up the physicality of the front court was what
- 12:11Speaker 2: I really wanted to see in there, and that's what
- 12:13Speaker 2: I saw.
- 12:15Speaker 1: I'm curious, you know, I'm going through exercise right now,
- 12:19Speaker 1: which well, actually I already don't want the exercise. But
- 12:20Speaker 1: we're releasing our top forty players in the Big Ten
- 12:23Speaker 1: with with Dylan Burkhard over at UM Hoops. I'm sure
- 12:25Speaker 1: you're familiar with Dylan Dylan's work and everything he does
- 12:28Speaker 1: over at em Hoops, but we one of the things,
- 12:32Speaker 1: you know, in the transfer port air that's become harder
- 12:35Speaker 1: for us to do is all of these up transfers
- 12:38Speaker 1: projecting what they're going to do once they get to
- 12:40Speaker 1: big you know, the Big tenant. I feel like sometimes
- 12:43Speaker 1: you're rolling the dice. I want to ask you about
- 12:45Speaker 1: some of the guys that are coming up from a
- 12:47Speaker 1: lower level of college hoops to play at Indiana this year.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Tayton Conway Sun Belt Player of the Year, hard to project,
- 12:53Speaker 1: you know how that translates the Big Ten. We saw
- 12:55Speaker 1: him in the tournament last year play against Kentucky, so
- 12:57Speaker 1: he's been on a stage against some of these, you know,
- 13:00Speaker 1: top teams. He obviously led his team to the NCAA tournament.
- 13:03Speaker 1: We saw Lamar Wilkerson in an assembly hall last year. Played
- 13:05Speaker 1: relatively well, averaged over twenty points a game, shot forty
- 13:09Speaker 1: four percent on threes over I think one hundred makes,
- 13:13Speaker 1: which is which is really good. But how does that
- 13:15Speaker 1: translate up the level? Not specific to these guys, but
- 13:19Speaker 1: I'm curious just for your thoughts on what maybe to
- 13:22Speaker 1: look for when you're trying to project these guys moving
- 13:25Speaker 1: up a level, what translate, what translates, and maybe what
- 13:29Speaker 1: doesn't translate in your eyes.
- 13:31Speaker 2: So the I think biggest red flag the analytics guys
- 13:37Speaker 2: will say when they're looking at up transfers are guards
- 13:40Speaker 2: who are rim reliant and draw a lot of contact
- 13:43Speaker 2: that does not transfer up to the you know, Power
- 13:48Speaker 2: five schools. So that's kind of a red flag with
- 13:51Speaker 2: Connorway because he's a rim reliant guard. You know, he's
- 13:54Speaker 2: got a lot of athleticism though, but just the finishing
- 13:59Speaker 2: at the rim and drawing fouls typically does not translate
- 14:02Speaker 2: at this level. So, you know, Connorway is probably my
- 14:06Speaker 2: biggest concern there. I don't have concerns with Wilkerson. That
- 14:09Speaker 2: skill set has proven to translate well moving up, but
- 14:14Speaker 2: you know where I think Devrees recognizes the kind of
- 14:20Speaker 2: need to maybe have Connorway off the ball, so you
- 14:22Speaker 2: have the Connorway and Right combo. I think they're going
- 14:26Speaker 2: to help each other and alleviate some of those concerns
- 14:28Speaker 2: with Connorway's skill set transferring up read. Bailey's a guy
- 14:34Speaker 2: who I think it's going to depend a lot on
- 14:36Speaker 2: the you know, combination he's with on the floor, because
- 14:42Speaker 2: he's going to be like that kind of hub, big
- 14:45Speaker 2: passer who can they can spread the floor around him
- 14:49Speaker 2: and he can you know, read the defense and you know,
- 14:53Speaker 2: pop it out to DeVries or whoever spreading the floor.
- 14:56Speaker 2: So he's but it's gonna you know, he can't be
- 14:59Speaker 2: like we just discussed the primary five in the league.
- 15:02Speaker 2: He'll get you know, dominated physically. So it's going to
- 15:06Speaker 2: be how he plays with Alexis and how you know,
- 15:09Speaker 2: the backcourt and Right and Connorway play with each other.
- 15:12Speaker 2: I think to alleviate some of those up transfer concerns I.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Noticed down in Puerto Rico, which again I'm trying not
- 15:21Speaker 1: to read too much into exhibition game stats, but Bailey
- 15:25Speaker 1: wasn't really taking any three pointers down there. Did that
- 15:28Speaker 1: surprise you at all? Is that something we can expect
- 15:30Speaker 1: to be different when the games actually start.
- 15:33Speaker 2: I think that he's his spacing. It's a good thing,
- 15:37Speaker 2: you know, in the long run that he doesn't need
- 15:40Speaker 2: to be like a stretch five type player in this
- 15:43Speaker 2: offense because we have enough spacing without that element. So,
- 15:48Speaker 2: sorry to say we bad habit I have is that.
- 15:52Speaker 1: You're you're an IU grad. You can say, well, I
- 15:54Speaker 1: guess it's.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Tough to get out of that habit. But yeah, I'm
- 15:58Speaker 2: an independent you know journalists here, so I have to be.
- 16:03Speaker 2: But yeah, it did surprise me that he wasn't used
- 16:06Speaker 2: almost at all in that regard, even like as a
- 16:10Speaker 2: you know, pick and pop guy. He wasn't out there
- 16:12Speaker 2: on the perim So I that did surprise me. But
- 16:15Speaker 2: I think it's a product of where this team is
- 16:18Speaker 2: at in terms of their spacing, and it's just not
- 16:21Speaker 2: an element divvere seas is necessary right now.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Yeah. The one thing, going back to Conorway for a second,
- 16:27Speaker 1: the one thing we had a chance to talk to
- 16:28Speaker 1: some of the players after they had an open practice
- 16:30Speaker 1: in late July. We got a chance to talk to
- 16:32Speaker 1: some of the guys afterwards and from talking to Conorway,
- 16:36Speaker 1: I think one of the things that he said that
- 16:38Speaker 1: stood out was just you mentioned, you know, he did
- 16:42Speaker 1: get to the rim a lot. I think in this
- 16:44Speaker 1: offense maybe his role might be a little bit different
- 16:46Speaker 1: of just trying to get the ball in the paint
- 16:48Speaker 1: for kickouts instead of trying to go finish. I think
- 16:53Speaker 1: watching his some of his film from last season, one
- 16:56Speaker 1: of the things that that did stand out was how
- 16:58Speaker 1: well he was able to get into the lane. May
- 17:00Speaker 1: the plays that he was finishing last year won't be
- 17:02Speaker 1: able to finish, but he might not have to if
- 17:04Speaker 1: he's got Devrees and Wilkerson, Nick Dorn, potentially Josiah Miles
- 17:09Speaker 1: out on the perimeter. If he can kick the ball
- 17:11Speaker 1: out for threes, I think he's a pretty good creative
- 17:14Speaker 1: playmaker from that perspective, So maybe that that can be
- 17:18Speaker 1: maybe a you know, a counter to the fact that
- 17:20Speaker 1: he may You're right, I think he may have trouble
- 17:22Speaker 1: finishing some of the plays because when you're playing Sun
- 17:26Speaker 1: Belt competition, sometimes you're going against what a six six
- 17:29Speaker 1: six eight guy and the paint as opposed to going
- 17:32Speaker 1: against a Dai Mara or whoever is you know, Oscar
- 17:38Speaker 1: Cloff Purdue got on the list. There's gonna be guys
- 17:41Speaker 1: that are six ten and up that he's going to
- 17:43Speaker 1: be trying to challenge in the paint the big ten.
- 17:45Speaker 1: Maybe not as easy as what he was able to
- 17:47Speaker 1: do with a sun belt, right.
- 17:49Speaker 2: And you know Troy last year, it's amazing he racked
- 17:52Speaker 2: up like I think at top twenty assister eate nationally
- 17:55Speaker 2: when they were one of the worst three point shooting
- 17:58Speaker 2: teams in the country. So you know, that's it's like
- 18:01Speaker 2: I mentioned earlier, it's the pieces around him that it's
- 18:04Speaker 2: going to alleviate for me those concerns that his rim
- 18:08Speaker 2: finishing and ability to draw contact won't translate at the
- 18:11Speaker 2: higher level because you know he's going to be like
- 18:14Speaker 2: you mentioned, it's about collapsing the defense within and being
- 18:18Speaker 2: able to get you know, draw pain off the dribble
- 18:20Speaker 2: and then you know, kick out to the what should
- 18:24Speaker 2: be one of the better shooting teams in the league.
- 18:27Speaker 1: Because the last guy I wanted to ask you about
- 18:29Speaker 1: was just Tucker de Freeze because I kind of feel
- 18:31Speaker 1: like in some ways he's I don't want to say
- 18:33Speaker 1: the forgotten man, but he was. It was just assumed
- 18:36Speaker 1: that he was coming to Indiana when when Darren took
- 18:38Speaker 1: the job, So there wasn't really any buzz about him committing,
- 18:42Speaker 1: and there wasn't any a ton of discussion. It was
- 18:44Speaker 1: just like, well, we're getting there, and he has getting
- 18:46Speaker 1: this guy that was the two time Missouri Valued Player
- 18:48Speaker 1: of the Year, and if it was, if he wasn't
- 18:52Speaker 1: the coach's son, I think a much bigger deal would
- 18:54Speaker 1: have been made out of how just how important of
- 18:57Speaker 1: a piece he is. But to have him come in,
- 18:59Speaker 1: you know, I remember watching a couple of the games
- 19:01Speaker 1: last season down in Battle for Atlantis because obviously Indiana
- 19:04Speaker 1: was down there. I think it was against Arizona. He
- 19:07Speaker 1: had some ridiculous three point I mean, just he's he
- 19:10Speaker 1: can pull up from anywhere. I mean, do you do
- 19:12Speaker 1: you kind of feel like the same way, he's been
- 19:14Speaker 1: maybe a little bit overlooked on this team and he's
- 19:16Speaker 1: the guy to me that flashes all big ten potential.
- 19:19Speaker 2: Yeah, it's you're exactly right. And my you know, guys,
- 19:24Speaker 2: I went to college with our our group chat we
- 19:27Speaker 2: talk about how I was just talking about how it
- 19:28Speaker 2: seems like he's been kind of taken for granted as
- 19:31Speaker 2: his role in this team because he can legitimately do
- 19:34Speaker 2: it all. So you're not like, oh, he's going to
- 19:36Speaker 2: be our guy that you know, runs off ball screens
- 19:41Speaker 2: or whatever. You know, he can he can take the
- 19:43Speaker 2: ball screen, you can use him off the ball. He's
- 19:45Speaker 2: a great cutter, you know. He just he's just the
- 19:49Speaker 2: quintessential coach's son basically. So he's just so high IQ
- 19:53Speaker 2: like can do anything you ask him to do. You
- 19:55Speaker 2: can put him at you know, anywhere one through four
- 19:58Speaker 2: basically and be totally fine. So yeah, it's like his
- 20:03Speaker 2: skill set is so diverse that you kind of take
- 20:06Speaker 2: for granted that he doesn't have a defined role on
- 20:08Speaker 2: this team when because his role is to like play
- 20:11Speaker 2: all of those play all of those roles. So yeah,
- 20:15Speaker 2: I know exactly what you're saying that it's kind of
- 20:19Speaker 2: you know, he's possibly, you know, maybe without questioning, even
- 20:24Speaker 2: the best player on the team, And when anyone talks
- 20:27Speaker 2: about IU, it's kind of like, oh, yeah, and Tucker
- 20:29Speaker 2: Devriez is there, of course, you.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Know, right, but yeah, he's a really good passer too.
- 20:34Speaker 2: Right Exactly. You can put him, yeah, in the middle
- 20:36Speaker 2: of the floor, you can space him out as a shooter.
- 20:39Speaker 2: He can take the ball screen, he can create his
- 20:41Speaker 2: own shot like it's he's legitimately, like you know, unbelievably skilled.
- 20:46Speaker 2: And same on defense too. He's not like super athletic,
- 20:51Speaker 2: but he just knows where to be defensively and you know,
- 20:54Speaker 2: can guard multiple positions. So I think that's yeah, he's
- 20:59Speaker 2: just an incredible basketball player all around on both ends.
- 21:03Speaker 1: So I want to you know, we only have you
- 21:06Speaker 1: for thirty thirty five minutes here, so I do want
- 21:08Speaker 1: to talk about some of the other Big Ten programs
- 21:10Speaker 1: that made coaching highers in the offseason. You know, the
- 21:12Speaker 1: one that's maybe talked about the most is IOWA and
- 21:16Speaker 1: Ben McCollum. And there was I think a time there
- 21:19Speaker 1: when Indiana fans were debating did they want McCollum, did
- 21:22Speaker 1: they want Devrees? And obviously we saw it all played out,
- 21:26Speaker 1: but there's a lot of fanfare, maybe a lot of it.
- 21:30Speaker 1: Seems like the national guys really like Ben McCollum in
- 21:33Speaker 1: terms of what he was able to do last season
- 21:34Speaker 1: at Drake and have a ton of respect what he
- 21:36Speaker 1: did at the D two level, and most of the
- 21:39Speaker 1: preseason predictions that I've seen so far have IOWA picked
- 21:42Speaker 1: ahead of Indiana in the Big Ten. I don't know
- 21:43Speaker 1: it's going to play out that way. I would say
- 21:46Speaker 1: on paper, Indiana's probably got a more talented roster. I
- 21:49Speaker 1: don't know if you would agree with that, But obviously
- 21:51Speaker 1: Ben at Sturtz is a really key piece there, and
- 21:54Speaker 1: then there's some obviously some guys moving up from lower
- 21:58Speaker 1: levels there too. But what do you like about the
- 22:02Speaker 1: McCollum higher for Iowa? Is there anything that gives you
- 22:05Speaker 1: pause in terms of how he may translate to the
- 22:07Speaker 1: Big Ten?
- 22:09Speaker 2: Yeah? I think you know, like you mentioned, it was
- 22:14Speaker 2: kind of it seemed like McCollum was trending towards being
- 22:18Speaker 2: here in Bloomington. But I think that it will be
- 22:22Speaker 2: interesting to see how that kind of like total burn
- 22:27Speaker 2: offense and clock manipulation that he runs works out at
- 22:31Speaker 2: you know where margin evert like is slimmering games like this,
- 22:38Speaker 2: So if you keep lowering the possessions, you could be
- 22:40Speaker 2: shooting yourself in the foot. But you know, it's a
- 22:42Speaker 2: total one to eighty from Fran McCaffrey style of basketball. Obviously,
- 22:47Speaker 2: you know, Bennett Starts is just a master manipulator with
- 22:49Speaker 2: the ball screen and just completely controls the game, and
- 22:54Speaker 2: you know, he added the kind of versatile forward from
- 22:58Speaker 2: Robert Morris Pogeiras who they didn't have last year at Drake.
- 23:03Speaker 2: They didn't have that type of player who can be
- 23:05Speaker 2: like a short role creator in the pick and roll
- 23:07Speaker 2: game with sturts, and I think that's really gonna kind
- 23:10Speaker 2: of that was a missing piece for Drake last year
- 23:14Speaker 2: and they did unbelievably well without that kind of player.
- 23:16Speaker 2: But he's exactly the kind of player that they need
- 23:19Speaker 2: in that pick and roll game with starts. So I
- 23:21Speaker 2: think IOWA was going to be offensively fine. Yet like
- 23:26Speaker 2: they're going to be one of the better teams just
- 23:29Speaker 2: in terms of on an efficiency level because of how
- 23:31Speaker 2: they're going to control the game and starts. I think
- 23:34Speaker 2: his style of play we've seen it statistically when Drake
- 23:38Speaker 2: played up. He didn't you know, miss a beat last year.
- 23:42Speaker 2: So I think IOWA was legitimately. I don't I agree
- 23:45Speaker 2: with you talent wise, like you know, top to bottom
- 23:48Speaker 2: on the roster, they're not as good as IU, but
- 23:51Speaker 2: I think they can manipulate the game in a way
- 23:53Speaker 2: where you know they might have a top half finish
- 23:55Speaker 2: in the Collins first year.
- 23:58Speaker 1: Is that you talk about mine pipulation of the game.
- 24:01Speaker 1: I mean, is it reminiscent at all of some how
- 24:05Speaker 1: Wisconsin used to play. I'm just trying to get Big
- 24:08Speaker 1: ten fans prepared for what they're going to be watching.
- 24:10Speaker 2: Yeah. Absolutely, it's it's that there's no like swing offense
- 24:13Speaker 2: elements or anything, you know, like had at all. It's
- 24:16Speaker 2: totally just how starts. Like they literally burn clock at
- 24:20Speaker 2: the beginning of possessions just to get starts in the
- 24:22Speaker 2: ball screen. They'll run ball screen after ball screen after
- 24:25Speaker 2: ball screen until they find the one they like, and
- 24:27Speaker 2: starts is just so good at you know, reading when
- 24:30Speaker 2: the time is to you know, attack or kick out
- 24:33Speaker 2: or whatever. And yeah, it's it's a lot like that style.
- 24:38Speaker 1: Which is there any concern that when when you when
- 24:40Speaker 1: you do that it can work? I guess at the
- 24:46Speaker 1: D two level at Drake, is there any concern against
- 24:50Speaker 1: like the best of the best in the Big ten
- 24:53Speaker 1: that that there's a ceiling on on what that can
- 24:55Speaker 1: actually do if you continue to kind of go back
- 24:57Speaker 1: to the same thing over and over. I mean sometimes
- 25:00Speaker 1: at some point talent becomes key to winning at the
- 25:04Speaker 1: highest level.
- 25:05Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, And you know we kind of it worked
- 25:11Speaker 2: in small doses when Drake played Power Conference teams because
- 25:15Speaker 2: they could, it was like kind of a shock to
- 25:18Speaker 2: the system for you know, and it turns out some
- 25:21Speaker 2: of those wins in the non conference against Miami and
- 25:24Speaker 2: Kansas State that looked impressive at the time turned out
- 25:27Speaker 2: to not be you know, really impressive. But obviously they
- 25:29Speaker 2: went to the second round of the tournament. You know,
- 25:32Speaker 2: it was they're legitimately a good team. But you're right,
- 25:35Speaker 2: night in and night out, it's not going to be
- 25:37Speaker 2: as effective I think as a you know, one time
- 25:40Speaker 2: shock to the system against a Power five team where
- 25:42Speaker 2: you're like, oh my god, this team is you know,
- 25:44Speaker 2: literally taking the shot clock down to five seconds before
- 25:47Speaker 2: they initiate offense here. So yeah, you're right. When that's
- 25:51Speaker 2: the plan every single night in the Big ten, we'll
- 25:55Speaker 2: see how effective that can be. Yeah.
- 25:57Speaker 1: I mean again, I'm not antim call. I think he's
- 26:00Speaker 1: a great coach. I think it's going to be I
- 26:01Speaker 1: think it's going to be a great addition to you know,
- 26:04Speaker 1: I've had a running joke for a long time about
- 26:06Speaker 1: just Iowa, are you ever going to play defense? I
- 26:08Speaker 1: think they've actually got a serious coach. He's going to
- 26:10Speaker 1: have them prepared on both ends. I think it's a
- 26:12Speaker 1: great addition for the league and I'm excited to see
- 26:14Speaker 1: how it works out. Moving on to Maryland, Kevin Willard,
- 26:19Speaker 1: anyone that follows me on social media knows I wasn't
- 26:21Speaker 1: the biggest Kevin Willard supporter. I think they actually made
- 26:25Speaker 1: an upgrade at the head coaching position bringing in Buzz Williams.
- 26:27Speaker 1: Although Buzz we can debate what his ceiling ultimately is.
- 26:31Speaker 1: He kind of gets to a program and he can
- 26:34Speaker 1: tinker things around a little bit and he can win.
- 26:36Speaker 1: He can get to the tournament. Is that kind of
- 26:38Speaker 1: how Maybe not a high ceiling higher, but I think
- 26:41Speaker 1: the floor is relatively high with Buddes Williams, and particularly
- 26:44Speaker 1: at Maryland, with the resources where he's going to be
- 26:46Speaker 1: able to recruit, I think he's got a chance to
- 26:48Speaker 1: have a tournament team there every year.
- 26:51Speaker 2: Yeah, totally agree. You know, he brought his kind of
- 26:55Speaker 2: brutish front court with him that you know, they dominate
- 26:58Speaker 2: the offensive glass, super physical and the paint. They switch
- 27:02Speaker 2: everything defensively, go under a ton of ball screens, basically
- 27:07Speaker 2: force you to beat them over the top, and then
- 27:09Speaker 2: they you know, grab the rebound and go. He did
- 27:13Speaker 2: recruit a couple like more skilled players like Elijah Saunders,
- 27:16Speaker 2: who's kind of something they've been he was missing at
- 27:19Speaker 2: Texas A and M. Like a kind of more skilled
- 27:21Speaker 2: shooting type of forward. And of course they have a
- 27:24Speaker 2: friend of the program running the show, Miles Rice now,
- 27:28Speaker 2: and I think, you know, with the way they play
- 27:30Speaker 2: defense and the way they teach physicality, he gives his
- 27:33Speaker 2: guards a lot of offensive freedom, and I think Rice
- 27:35Speaker 2: is going to probably have, you know, the kind of
- 27:38Speaker 2: post type breakout year that you hear a lot about
- 27:42Speaker 2: where he's just given more of a kind of you know,
- 27:46Speaker 2: I don't want to say green light, but less like
- 27:49Speaker 2: restrictions offensively, Like if you watch the guards at Texas
- 27:53Speaker 2: A and M, they will take some of the worst
- 27:55Speaker 2: shots you've ever seen because the ideas like let's get
- 27:58Speaker 2: a shot up and then we just crash all five
- 28:00Speaker 2: on the offensive glass. And so Rice is going to
- 28:03Speaker 2: have a lot of opportunities to do just that. So
- 28:05Speaker 2: you know, he might not have an efficiency from an
- 28:08Speaker 2: efficiency standpoint, a great year, but he's going to put
- 28:10Speaker 2: up some big numbers, you know, end of playing that role.
- 28:14Speaker 1: So you're buying a bounce back season from Miles Rice
- 28:17Speaker 1: after Dylan and I ranked him in the top five
- 28:19Speaker 1: players last year and the big ten the preseason, he
- 28:21Speaker 1: burned us. Now we have him outside of the top forty,
- 28:23Speaker 1: and I think that he might burn us again.
- 28:26Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, you can't. You can't catch up with him.
- 28:28Speaker 2: He's I think he could have a you know, pretty
- 28:30Speaker 2: decent year.
- 28:33Speaker 1: Last guy I want to talk about, Nico medved comes
- 28:35Speaker 1: over from Colorado State to Minnesota's alma mater. I would
- 28:40Speaker 1: say of the four new hires, probably has the biggest
- 28:44Speaker 1: hill to climb there for a variety of reasons, one
- 28:46Speaker 1: being the nil resources and every you know, just kind
- 28:51Speaker 1: of the program prestige in history at Minnesota is lesser
- 28:56Speaker 1: than the other three programs. It's not an easy job.
- 28:59Speaker 1: I mean, they ran Richard Patino out of there, and
- 29:01Speaker 1: he actually did a relatively solid job, and kind of
- 29:05Speaker 1: he's ended up maybe in a better spot than than
- 29:08Speaker 1: when he was there at Minnesota ended up ultimately Xavier,
- 29:11Speaker 1: but it's a tough job. I think he's relying this
- 29:15Speaker 1: year on a ton of up transfers, so it's really
- 29:18Speaker 1: hard to project. When we looked at I think the
- 29:20Speaker 1: top forty for the big tip in the preseason. I'm
- 29:24Speaker 1: not sure I even seriously considered a player from Minnesota
- 29:27Speaker 1: to put on there. So they're gonna have to be
- 29:29Speaker 1: a sum of their parts rather than having one, one
- 29:32Speaker 1: or two studs. What do you like about that fit there?
- 29:34Speaker 1: And is there any hope for for Minnesota to kind
- 29:39Speaker 1: of outperform expectations this year? Is that going to be
- 29:41Speaker 1: something where he's going to need to build it over
- 29:43Speaker 1: the next couple of years.
- 29:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I think Minnesota is kind of a deeper sleeper
- 29:46Speaker 2: in the league. Like I'm not saying they're going to
- 29:48Speaker 2: be in the same there's kind of that big, meaty
- 29:51Speaker 2: tier of the you know, Wisconsin, Ohio, State, i U, Iowa,
- 29:56Speaker 2: Maryland like that, they're all kind of generally about the
- 29:59Speaker 2: same minutes. Soda is below that tier, but I think
- 30:01Speaker 2: they can knock on the door of that tier in
- 30:03Speaker 2: the first year just because he medved is kind of
- 30:07Speaker 2: it'll remind me a lot of like Matt Pater's offense
- 30:11Speaker 2: before they you know, had you know, seven foot five
- 30:15Speaker 2: guys every single season. It's a lot of off ball movement,
- 30:18Speaker 2: a lot of cutters, a lot of off ball screening,
- 30:21Speaker 2: and he's got a point guard from Western Michigan that
- 30:24Speaker 2: I really like, Chauncey Willis. He put up some amazing
- 30:29Speaker 2: efficiency numbers for a really bad Western Michigan team, and
- 30:32Speaker 2: I think he's kind of the typical point guard that
- 30:35Speaker 2: he had at Colorado State that can really run his offense.
- 30:40Speaker 2: He's relying on a kind of Taton Connorway player I
- 30:44Speaker 2: think to be his leading scorer with Langston Reynolds, who
- 30:47Speaker 2: is a big rim finisher at Northern Colorado as an
- 30:49Speaker 2: off guard. So that's kind of the you know, red
- 30:52Speaker 2: flag kind of player that we talked about earlier. So
- 30:54Speaker 2: we'll see how that translates. But a lot of the
- 30:58Speaker 2: rim looks Colorado State rated under him wasn't born from
- 31:02Speaker 2: like dribble penetration. It's from off ball movement, spacing and
- 31:05Speaker 2: just you know, attacking that gap that you create. And
- 31:10Speaker 2: I think a big key to them kind of reaching
- 31:13Speaker 2: some sort of ceiling will be a cage. Tyson, the
- 31:16Speaker 2: Velmont transfer, went to North Carolina last year and bombed.
- 31:20Speaker 2: I think he was poorly coached and poorly utilized there,
- 31:24Speaker 2: and so with a he's a perfect fit in the
- 31:26Speaker 2: style of offense. They run a similar offense to what
- 31:29Speaker 2: Belmont uses. So he's going to be I think kind
- 31:33Speaker 2: of in that post hype breakout role as well, where
- 31:38Speaker 2: he can really thrive with a lot of open shots
- 31:40Speaker 2: that this offense creates. I think Minnesota's got some definite upside,
- 31:44Speaker 2: big coaching upgrade, you know. I don't think they're going
- 31:47Speaker 2: to compete necessarily for a at large spot or you know,
- 31:51Speaker 2: be even in the you know, bottom tier of the middle.
- 31:57Speaker 2: I think they're solidly in the bottom tier, but I
- 31:59Speaker 2: think they have potential to you know, kind of be
- 32:02Speaker 2: around that area and surprise with some wins.
- 32:05Speaker 1: So quickly before before we wrap up here, the two
- 32:08Speaker 1: teams that you know, I keep coming back to at
- 32:10Speaker 1: the bottom. I'm curious if you have agreement on this
- 32:14Speaker 1: or is there any debate Penn State and Rutgers. They
- 32:17Speaker 1: kind of looks like the bottom to.
- 32:18Speaker 2: You easily the bottom tier, like they're a tier of
- 32:21Speaker 2: their own at the bottom. You know, I think Michael's
- 32:25Speaker 2: going to be a little bit relieved to be rid
- 32:28Speaker 2: of you know, the Harper Bailey kind of it's just
- 32:32Speaker 2: it just was a poor fit from the beginning, you know,
- 32:35Speaker 2: it just it's not his style. But so they're going
- 32:38Speaker 2: to get more into that kind of you know, ground
- 32:40Speaker 2: and pound way that they play with him, but they
- 32:43Speaker 2: just don't have anywhere near the talent level that you know,
- 32:47Speaker 2: if you're relying on another friend of the program, hearn
- 32:51Speaker 2: Zerno to be your leading scorer, which I think Rutgers
- 32:55Speaker 2: might be. I think you're in pretty big trouble. And
- 32:57Speaker 2: then Penn State they got you know, like a I
- 33:00Speaker 2: think intriguing point guard, freshman point guard Kaden Mingo coming in,
- 33:04Speaker 2: and some Euros, Murdics and Urich in the front court.
- 33:08Speaker 2: But other than that, I think they're pretty easily the
- 33:10Speaker 2: worst team in the Big Ten this year.
- 33:13Speaker 1: And then the top is it is it a Michigan
- 33:16Speaker 1: Purdue battle or is there a chance for Illinois somebody.
- 33:19Speaker 2: Similar to the bottom, I see two teams in the top,
- 33:21Speaker 2: Purdue in Michigan, like a clear, clearly defined tier one,
- 33:25Speaker 2: and then right below them, I'd probably put Illinois and
- 33:27Speaker 2: U c l A together U c l A a little higher,
- 33:30Speaker 2: and then like I mentioned earlier, this kind of third
- 33:33Speaker 2: tier of Wisconsin, Michigan State, Oregon, Ohio State, Maryland, I
- 33:39Speaker 2: U Iowa even maybe like Washington, USC could be in
- 33:43Speaker 2: that tier as well. I think they're kind of just
- 33:46Speaker 2: one massive lump of teams right now that it's hard
- 33:49Speaker 2: to differentiate from a power ranking perspective before the season starts.
- 33:54Speaker 1: So basically, what you're saying is chaos as usual in
- 33:56Speaker 1: the middle of the Big Ten. Everyone's gonna beat up
- 33:58Speaker 1: on each other and we'll see we'll see you in
- 34:00Speaker 1: Chicago for the Big Ten Tournament when it's all the
- 34:03Speaker 1: sides in terms of the seating.
- 34:04Speaker 2: And you could have another team like Nebraska who doesn't
- 34:07Speaker 2: even or Northwestern, you know, who doesn't even qualify for
- 34:10Speaker 2: the Big Ten Tournament, but who you know has like
- 34:12Speaker 2: a fringe at large case because I you know, I
- 34:16Speaker 2: see them as kind of their own tier right behind
- 34:18Speaker 2: that where they're capable of, like they have such stylistic
- 34:23Speaker 2: differences as opposed to the rest of the Big Ten,
- 34:25Speaker 2: Northwestern and Nebraska, where you know, it's always a headache
- 34:29Speaker 2: playing and you know, dealing with those post traps and
- 34:33Speaker 2: things like that. So it's, yeah, a convoluted mess in
- 34:39Speaker 2: the middle.
- 34:41Speaker 1: Yeah, that's that's one thing. You know. I got some
- 34:42Speaker 1: friends that are acc fans and fans of other leagues too.
- 34:46Speaker 1: It's like I trying to tell people and I like
- 34:49Speaker 1: to throw it back, Well, the Big Ten hasn't won
- 34:50Speaker 1: a championships in two thousand. I'm like, there's there's not
- 34:53Speaker 1: very many off nights in the Big Ten once you
- 34:54Speaker 1: get into conference play. I mean there might be this
- 34:56Speaker 1: season with Penn State and Rutgers depending. I mean, although
- 34:59Speaker 1: I I will say if you catch Rutgers on the
- 35:01Speaker 1: wrong night at the RACK, they can be tough. I
- 35:03Speaker 1: don't care who's playing. But a lot of these teams,
- 35:06Speaker 1: I mean, you look at the ACC last year, and
- 35:09Speaker 1: this is kind of one thing I've cautioned people. They've
- 35:11Speaker 1: they've said, well, Pat Kelsey turned things around at Louisville
- 35:14Speaker 1: last year and year one can't do the same thing
- 35:17Speaker 1: at Ie. I'm like, look at the teams that were
- 35:19Speaker 1: playing for a lot of those games, they had those
- 35:20Speaker 1: long winning streaks. They were just not even competitive college
- 35:23Speaker 1: basketball teams. And the Big Ten you're not. You're not
- 35:25Speaker 1: going to have those games where it's just a gimmea
- 35:28Speaker 1: on a given night. I mean, you may have, like
- 35:29Speaker 1: I said, a couple at home against the bottom tier league,
- 35:32Speaker 1: but if you don't come to play, anyone can beat
- 35:36Speaker 1: anyone in the Big Ten. I truly believe that and
- 35:38Speaker 1: it's not like that other than maybe the SEC the
- 35:42Speaker 1: Big Twelve on some of its you know, best years,
- 35:44Speaker 1: but really the only leagues like that in the country
- 35:47Speaker 1: that I can see.
- 35:48Speaker 2: Right, and for an eighteen team league as well, you know,
- 35:51Speaker 2: like the Big Ten has benefited from that, the ACC
- 35:56Speaker 2: has not. You know, like you mentioned the bottom half
- 35:58Speaker 2: of that ACC megafield is just they were awful last year.
- 36:03Speaker 2: You know, those were easy, like almost guaranteed wins in
- 36:07Speaker 2: that league and they're just yeah, as you're saying, there
- 36:09Speaker 2: just isn't such a thing with this eighteen team league.
- 36:12Speaker 1: Well, Jordan, thanks for taking the time, really enjoying the conversation.
- 36:14Speaker 1: I'd love to have you on again once we actually
- 36:16Speaker 1: get some data in from the season, some results, and
- 36:20Speaker 1: so jerre in Bloomington there. I know you have a
- 36:22Speaker 1: close eye on the Hoosiers. Love to have you on
- 36:24Speaker 1: again at some point when the season gets closer or
- 36:26Speaker 1: when the season starts to talk some more college hoops
- 36:30Speaker 1: and I you, I really appreciate you taking the time.
- 36:31Speaker 1: Good luck with everything with a Basket under Review. If
