2:14
political adds. Makes for good revenue though during the season, and it makes
2:17
for easy talk shows. Now it means I won't have anything to throw on
2:22
the floorboard in my truck at the mailbox again today. Now I've got to
2:24
go back to actually putting together a show again, which I did today.
2:28
We have now our Kanawa County Commission race set Democrat and former Secretary of State
2:31
on one side. Of the others the former legislator and insurance executive Chris Walters
2:37
Natalie Tennant Chris Walters both will be joining me on the show today. Plus
2:39
we know who the sheriff is going to be since there was no one in
2:42
the ticket on the Democrat side. It'll be Joe Crawford. He's going to
2:45
join us a little bit later on. Brad Michael Henney will be stopping by
2:47
as well. Lots of news to get to them, you just say this
2:51
first and foremost before we get to Chris, want to hear your reaction to
2:54
the election. Light up the text lines. I'll read as many as possible.
2:59

3:14
Chris, good morning. How are you sing? I'd rather talk about the
3:16

3:22
donuts spot that too, Yeah, yeah, we're good. At the Strawberry
3:25

3:30
never been invited actually, so I go. Well, but it's and it's
3:36
amazing, it really is what it goes on Mechannan. All right, so
3:38
we have reversed chairs from twelve hours ago. I'm now in the host chair
3:43
and you're in the co host chair. Thanks exactly, by the way,
3:46
hats off to you and Carrie Hoodesek, who's who burned the midnight oil,
3:51
the midday oil. All the oil is burned. Because you two have been
3:54
here all night. You have not left. There's just enough left in the
3:57
tank to finish off your show here and nothing. I'm going on to bed.
4:00
I don't blame yet, I don't blame you, all right, So
4:01
let's just start it off. I'm just going to count on the turn you
4:03
loose, well, Lok, let's talk. Let's start. Lookily, the
4:06
contested races in Incanah County in the courthouse were largely on the Republican side,
4:13
as you have mentioned, Chris Walters defeated Dwayne Duncan and on the Democratic side,
4:16
Natalie Tennant defeated Kent Carper, who, as we have documented, resigned
4:21
last week. So and that was a fairly heavy handed win by Tenants.
4:26
She went one going away there. In the prosecutor's race, which was another
4:30
one that was much talked about, Debor Rosnick defeated Morgan Switzer by about sixteen
4:35
hundred votes. So Rosnick advances to November and we'll take on John Mitchell in
4:42
the general election. And I have to apologize to John because we were on
4:45
the coverage last night and I was just I had so many numbers and names
4:48
running through my head, and I was trying on the fly to remember his
4:51
name, and I just could not get it out. So I apologized John
4:56
because I could see his face when I was talking to Debora last night.
5:00
I could see John's face. I knew who he was, and I knew
5:03
he was going to be the Democrat, and I could not remember his name.
5:08
And You're looking at me and offering no help. Well, because I
5:10
didn't know what he what I was trying to say. Now, we spent
5:13
a lot of time together, but we're not married. I can't complete your
5:15
sentences. And Chris is looking at now. You and Kerry could probably do
5:17
that, but you're looking at me, and I'm like Toasterick, I don't
5:24
know what. I apologize to John Mitchell for forgetting his name on our coverage
5:28
last night. It wasn't because I forgot who he was or that he was
5:30
going to be the Democratic candidate for prosecutor. I just couldn't get the name
5:34
out. Joe Crawford, as you mentioned, will be the sheriff. He
5:38
defeated Sean Krozer last night. There was no Democrat in the race, so
5:41
he will likely be your kana County Sheriff. Now the judicial races, there
5:45
were a couple in Kanawa County that were contested for circuit judge. Of course,
5:48
there's a new circuit judge in Kanaan County and that was a close race,
5:53
probably the closest race of the night, as Richard Lindsay defeated Eric Cantrell
5:58
ninety five votes. Was the separation there, So certainly they'll be looking at
6:02
that one pretty closely when the canvass the ballots coming up in a few days.
6:06
Judge Jennifer Bailey won re election defeating Ashley Deem. The vote totaled there
6:11
nineteen three hundred and seventy for Bailey. Deem got eleven eight hundred and thirty
6:15
six votes, so Judge Bailey re elected. There there was a family Court
6:24
judge seat that was won by Kelly Pritt. She won rather handily over Leir
6:30
van Meter fourteen six hundred votes to eleven thousand and thirty six for van Meter.
6:35
There that was the difference in that one. There are three new magistrates
6:40
in Kanaha County and those seats were claimed by Lisa Good, Todd Chevalier,
6:44
and John Luoni. There were four other magistrate races that were contested and those
6:47
winners included Leslie Grace, Mike Farrell, Casey Moore, and Gary Scheff.
6:53
So that runs down the races in Kanawa County. In Putnam County there was
6:58
the one circuit judge rage that was talked about. Phil Stowers defeated John Hoover
7:03
seventy eight hundred eighty eight votes to thirty three hundred and twenty eight. Judge
7:06
Stowers wins reelection. There there was one magistrate race that was contested in Putnham
7:12
County and Sarah Weaver won there. For the school board, your winners were
7:15
Chuck Hatfield and Christian Wells and both levees that were on the ballot, and
7:19
Putnam County one handily and the Fire and Rescue levy as well as the school
7:24
board levee both were approved. And I think you got Brad coming on,
7:29
so you guys can thumbnail the statewide races and of course all of those numbers
7:34
are at our website wv matronews dot com and there will be plenty on talk
7:39
line with Hopey coming up in the next hour reaction and analysis. And also
7:44
I'll throw this in here, a couple of our mayor's races that we had.
7:46
Scott James has been He won his race in Saint Albans and he was
7:51
reelected because that was the election. And then Scott Elliott and Dunbar won his
7:57
race over one of the council when there's actually two other candidates, thinking that
8:00
right, yeah, and he and then in Dunbar that was a primary.
8:03
So he's now the Democrat nominee. But there were no Republicans running, So
8:07
now I guess that means that he unless somebody could be appointed to that seat
8:11
by the Republican party. So that's uh so Elliott wins in in Dunbar as
8:16
well. All right, all right, Chris, I appreciate it, man,
8:18
thanks a lot. All right, dude, to have yourself a great
8:20
day. And it's too bad we're not on TV yet. We will be
8:24
in the fall because you are rocking the man Hillbillies. I I wondered if
8:28
anybody was gonna know that notice that you got to Mike Crosby, our good
8:33
buddy down the baseball coach at Man would be very a listener to this show.
8:35
By the way, the former American Psycho American Psycho in his pro wrestling
8:39
days Yeah, he hooked you up with a man hill billy gear. So
8:41
you're rocking the left. I mean, I'm Logan and that's okay. It
8:46

8:50

8:56
and uh so so so the Hillbillies were rocking at what is they called Tropic
9:00

9:03

9:39
Carnes is done. One of depressing parties. Morrissey is the GOP goublatorial
9:43

9:48
says, looks say Mike Stewart will need to get a job since he can't
9:52
live off taxes anymore. That's a real welfare system. Well, he's still
9:56
a state senator, is mister Stewart. Biggest election news, says A text
10:01
in my mind was Blair is going to get ousted, a get announced rather
10:05
than the fifteenth Senatorial district going to need a new Senate president and all new
10:09
committee appointments. Chaos coming to the state a second straight time, that we've
10:13
lost a Senate president. Tex says Dave. I think a lot of Conservatives
10:18
like me were tick that Mooney decided to run for Senate after all that trouble
10:22
to win the House seat over David McKinley. His selfish ambition to go from
10:24
a two year cycle to a six year one has now forced him to have
10:30
to say goodbye to DC. To other conservative politicians, this needs to be
10:33
a reminder to think before you act. Somebody who always thinks before and after
10:39
he acts, as Brad mcilhanney's joined us right now. Brad, good morning,
10:41
welcome to the show. Good morning, Dave, Happy post election morning.
10:46
And indeed it is all right. So let's start with the with the
10:52
race for the Senate governor Jim Justice. Will move on and we'll face Wheeling
10:58
mayor Glen Elliot. Your thoughts. You know, the polling, not just
11:03
the Metro News poll, but others consistently showed Justice way ahead. It was
11:09
to the point that Congressman Mooney counted his own internal polling that showed him within
11:15
twenty points. That was favorable considering other polls showed a forty point gap.
11:22
So you know that that showed you the lay of the land. And the
11:24
only question to me was how quickly the race would be called by Metro News.
11:31
And you know, this was a national profile race, so how quickly
11:35
it might be called. It was a lead story on ABC News last night,
11:37
and it was a lead story ons you know, to Congersman Mooney's credit,
11:43
I think it was it was not called as soon as the poles closed,
11:46
but it was maybe forty five minutes later, maybe Poles closed seven thirty
11:50
race was called probably eight fifteen. And Craig Blair is out. As textures
11:56
have mentioned, Craig Blair is out, and and so now the face of
12:01
the Senate is going to change. Well, I was bamboozled about that,
12:05
and bamboozled the man said, I was bamboozled because you know, Senator Blair
12:13
had a financial advantage. I think a name recognition advantage, which can cut
12:18
both ways. You can, you know, if everybody knows who you are,
12:22
you can be a lightning rod for criticism. He had two primary opponents,
12:28
both running to his right on culture issues. Senator Blair is most enthusiastic
12:35
about economic development in the state, and he believed that that was his,
12:39
you know, a central part of his role, particularly in the lieutenant lieutenant
12:45
governor spot that goes with being Senate president. But he was He faced competition
12:50
from former Delegate Mike Folk and from Tom Willis, a lawyer, a businessman,
12:56
a military veteran, and a veteran of the twenty eighteen West Virginia US
13:05
Senate Republican race. That one also included you probably remember Patrick Morris, Evan
13:13
Jenkins, Don Blankenship and Tom Willis kind of came out of nowhere, and
13:18
you know, it wasn't really among the top three finishers, but created an
13:22
impression by being someone you hadn't heard of, and he thought, who's this
13:26
guy. He's coming off pretty well, and he was great. Tom Willris
13:31
was great on the Jeffersons. By the way, yes, that is a
13:33
good point and it is now carried over and he has defeated Senator Blair.
13:41
He Tom Willis was interviewed by one of our metro news stations, w EPM
13:46
in Martinsburg, and to my ears, sounded about as surprised as anyone.
13:52
Let me Blair is you know, he's he's out, and now that that
13:56
is going to certainly change the power structure in the State Center. And you
13:58
know, I don't want to put words in his mouth. And I'm sure
14:01
that Senate President Blair will be on with Hopy maybe on this show at some
14:05
point. But I kind of got the ouda in talking to some people that
14:07
Blair may have just been over Charleston altogether, be honest with you, because
14:11
he was. He was kind of frustrated, especially with the far right wing
14:15
of the party. Before we let you go, because I knew you got
14:18
a lot to do, and I want to get some local races. I
14:18
get some candidates in studio. Here the Board of Public Works mentioned earlier,
14:24
McCuskey beats Mike Stewart. Chris Warner takes over for his brother Mac as the
14:28
new Secretary of State. Mark Hunt is the new State Auditor. Cant Leonhardt
14:33
will be I guess when they have the Board of Public Works meeting, he's
14:35
going to be the one knows where the paper towels are because he's the only
14:39
one that's sticking around. He was re elected as ag Commissioner, at least
14:41
I should say he was that he won the Republican primary. And also Larry
14:48
Pack did not have opposition his pursuit of the State Treasurer's office. So a
14:52
whole lot of new faces there, Brad, And we'll let you go after
14:54
that. But go ahead, man. Well, you know, McCuskey,
14:56
as somebody know, people know from his two terms as state auditor, he's
15:01
switching roles or could could switch roles if he wins the general election. And
15:09
uh, you know, I just think that that name recognition and the track
15:11
record probably helped him the race Chris Warner potentially will be would be taking over
15:20
the role that his brother has held for the last two terms. Uh So
15:24
people people may think, oh Warner is in the Secretary of State office,
15:28
that it could be a different one. Uh And then you know, no
15:33
surprise that Kent Lee and Hart successfully defended his seat. Mark Hunt a little
15:37
bit of a surprise to me because Hunt has a long track record in wes
15:41
Virgini legislative politics as a Democrat. But a lot of people, including the
15:46
voters, have changed parties in recent years, so maybe that's not that surprising.
15:52
Hunt had a Canaw Valley stronghold. Some of his opponents, including House
15:58
Majority Leader Eric Householder, more of a base of operations in the Eastern pain
16:03
Handle. Uh. The one of the Jackson County Commissioners, Trician Jackson right
16:10
was was also in that race, So potentially splitting the Eastern pain Handle vote
16:15
and clearly Mark Hunt, former Democrat, current state center. What's the beneficiary?
16:19
All right? Well, speaking of uh, I do want to throw
16:23
this out there, we have to give props to our boss. Uh here
16:26
at the radio ranch, Joe Parsons. Happy Joe, as most people don't
16:32
him out of Jackson County. Joe uh won the nomination and uh, and
16:37
we'll be serving it looks like because I don't think there's anyone. Maybe there
16:38
is some on the primary. I'm not sure, but he did win the
16:41
nomination out of that uh uh that place in the Jackson County, out of
16:45
that that district there, So I guess, uh we we refer to him
16:48
when I passed him in the hall as as uh. At least for now
16:52
we could say possibly Delegate Joe Parsons. Oh man, how do we treat
16:56
him? Congratulations to him, the great guy. Uh, don't blame the
17:00
voters for all right. All right, now you're gonna be on I know
17:04
with a hobby coming up at ten oh six, so we'll let you go.
17:07
I appreciate more focus on the Senate in Congress and probably have a few
17:11
of the candidates onday. I know he was trying to see if we could
17:12
get the governor on there. So we'll be listening to teno sex Man,
17:17

my wife for standing by me. I mean, anybody that puts their
21:49
name on the ballot, they're opening themselves to scrutiny, to negative ads,
21:53
as everyone's seen. And you know that doesn't just affect the candidate, fects
21:56
families as well, and so you know, having that support at home is
22:00
just absolutely amazing and invaluable to me. The entire family runs. Yes,
22:06
in the world we live in now, in the world of politics, Chris,
22:07
the entire family is on the ballot, you know, and it's it's
22:11
I don't I don't like it necessarily, but it is what it is.
22:15
You know. It was a great teaching moment for my kids too. I
22:17
had to explain to my son in kind of sports terms that this was a
22:19
semi final and that we head to the final instead of using primary in general,
22:23
so he could really click on to what's going on as someone who's served
22:26
to the legislature and has really been around politics your whole life. Of course,
22:32
you know your family, your father, and legislature. Talk about the
22:33
experiences you've had and how you think those will help you if you're elected to
22:38
the county commission. Chris, Yeah, absolutely, My experience is invaluable whenever
22:42
it comes to coming in and replacing someone who'd been on the County Commissioner commission
22:47
for twenty eight years. You know, I was Vice Chair of Finance in
22:49
the Senate, oversaw the finances of the whole state of West Virginia, so
22:53
coming into the county, being able to comb through the budget find ways we
22:57
can save money and return that money to the taxpayers. You know, we
23:00
really have to have the onus that this is not our money, this is
23:04
the taxpayer money. Times are extremely tough right now. It is tough to
23:08
make your weekly grocery bills, utility rates, everything, and we need to
23:14
return as much money to the taxpayer as we can to help them as we
23:17
all weather this storm together. It's an interesting time, Chris in Kanawha County
23:22
because on one hand, you've got so many great things that are happening here,
23:26
and I think this is true of West Virginia in general. Putting on
23:29
more broad terms, you have so many great things that are happening. You
23:33
know, job announcements coming, I'm talking talking about statewide. You have people
23:37
moving into certain areas, moving out of other areas. So it's kind of
23:40
an interesting contrast between the good and the bad. Let's start with the good.
23:44
What's some good things going on in Kanawha County right now that you want
23:47
to that you want to be a part of. You know, the County
23:48
Commission has been involved in like the Shawnee Sports Complex. I think bringing that
23:52
travel type of sports to Kanall County has been fantastic. It's brought more people
23:56
here to see the county that we all love. You know, we live
24:00
here for a reason. We think it's wonderful. We're in our bubble of
24:03
how great Kanaal County is, and I want to continue to spread that message
24:07
to tons of people by having them come here. You know, as a
24:11
candidate, I haven't been using buzzwords of let's just build a strong economy.
24:15
I've actually put plans forth to doing so. I think that's really important.
24:19
You know, Kanall County has so much potential. We are the capital city
24:22
of a state. We have a beautiful area, we have a great river,
24:26
and we just don't utilize it enough. There's a lot that we can
24:30
do more to improve Kanall County and I hope to do that, and with
24:33
your help, I want to hear your ideas of what you think we can
24:36
do, because I don't have all the ideas. I've got a lot of
24:38
great plans for Kanall County, but I really want to hear from everyone out
24:41
there that's what you all think we could do to do better. And one
24:45
of the things I hear a lot on this show from guests and sometimes from
24:48
callers and Texas Chris Is. People say that they think there's a division in
24:52
Kanawha County. Again, not unlike a lot of other counties. You know,
24:55
they think that maybe what's going on, that what's going on in the
24:59
Upper Kanal Valley couldn't be any more different than what's going on in downtown Charleston
25:03
or what's going on in Tornado or in St. Albans or whatever. Speak
25:06
to that, Yeah, absolutely, I mean, we we can't forget about
25:08
different areas of the county. And also when it comes to the division,
25:11
you know, I'm used to bringing people together. You know, a lot
25:15
of people don't know this about me, but my wife's a Democrat, I'm
25:18
a Republican. We have two bipartisan babies, you know, I am.
25:21
I'm used to working with everybody. I love. Have a dog. What's
25:25
the dog? I got four dogs? Okay, we actually uh we got
25:27
a mountain party one of the dogs. Oh man, they're they're just wonderful
25:32
things. I love animals. What's one of my biggest passions actually is helping
25:36
animals. We adopt, we we we do what we can to give back
25:40
to those you know, to them, they're they're amazing to us. And
25:44
you know, the eastern part of Kanaal County is extremely important, just like
25:47
the western part, and just like Charleston, Clinton and all over, and
25:52
I have plans for each region. You know, we can't just focus on
25:55
building Charleston and hoping the rest does well. We need to focus on building
25:59
Kanal County as a whole. We also need to focus on sharing things together.
26:03
If you look at the cities, you know, Dunbar's doing really great
26:06
on tearing down homes and they have the equipment to do that, whereas Clinton
26:10
and they do great on doing it too, but they may not have certain
26:12
pieces of equipment that Dunbar has, and Dumbar's not using those equipment every day.
26:17
So we really need to figure out what equipment all these cities has,
26:21
work together as a county, share resources to make the whole county better.
26:26
So, Chris, before the campaign really gets going, you have time to
26:29
exhale a little bit anything you want to say to the voters Canowa County who
26:33
have put you in this position to possibly be the next county commission. You've
26:37
still got a race to get through, but at this point, yeah,
26:40
you know, again, thank you for putting your support and confidence in me
26:44
as I move forward in this race. I am not going to go negative.
26:47
You're not going to see a negative ad paid for by Chris Walters.
26:51
In fact, Dave, we joked about this that my campaign commercial during the
26:55
primary started with warning the following is a positive campaign commercial, because that's what
27:00
I'm trying to do. We don't need to tear each other down. You
27:03
know, my opponent, the General, Natalie, she's intelligent, she's articulate.
27:06
Her and I get along. Well, I'm not going to try to
27:08
tear her down or sling mud at her. You know, I hope that
27:11
the voters hear my plans, my ideas, hear her plans, her ideas,
27:15
and pick who they think would do best for the Well, she's in
27:17
the green room, so you know, you can start by the baby going
27:18
run up to the soda machine to buy find her soda or back of chips
27:22
or something. You know, we saw each other so much during the campaign
27:25
trail that we literally joked about we should ride together to Avent Stave. So
27:29
you know, again, I try to get along with everybody, and I
27:30
want to bring that passion, that energy, and that excitement to the County
27:34
Commission. I think I can do a lot to help our county, help
27:37
any divisions that there are in this county, and to move us forward.
27:41
Chris Walter's the Republican nominee for County Commission. Congratulations on your victory last night,

32:00
Chris Warner won the Republican nomination for Secretary of State. Chris is a terrible
32:04
leader. The EEDA was a terrible state GOP chair and not likely to do
32:07
any better in elected office. Texas, Walters was outvoted of the legislature.
32:14
Now I wants to be commissioner, to close libraries and allow the state to
32:15
take control of our local government. Check why he got voted out on the
32:20
state level. Final Texas Day. The first thing out of Chris Walter's mouth
32:24
was the Republican mantra of cut taxes. But wait, the next five things
32:28
he talked about. We're good ways to spend county money. I may be
32:30
naive, but if a county has less money, how do you spend more?
32:34
Just a thought? Former secretary of State, former mountaineer, former television
32:37
personality, and a whole lot more. Well, now she's going to add
32:39
Democratic nominee for county commission to her resume. Natalie Tenant is here. Good
32:44
morning and congratulations, welcome to the show. Good morning, Thank you.
32:47
I'm sure I'll get text about me next. That's cool. I'm fired up
32:52
about it. I was with the territory comes with the interesting race, for
32:54
sure. You know you now you were running your opposition on the credit ticket
33:00
was longtime county commissioner Kink Carper. You were out just running your campaign.
33:05
Then late Friday comes worthy, mister Carper would would resign, but he's still
33:08
on the ballot. It definitely looked to me like the voters of kanaw Canny
33:13
realized he wasn't going to serve, because I don't know if he did,
33:17
you know, I don't exactly. I guess I thought maybe that he would
33:22
get more votes. It's not a knock against you, don't get me wrong,
33:23
but I was thinking because he's been there for so long or whatever,
33:27
But you got a heck of a lot of votes and you won the thing,
33:30
which is not surprising. But I think the number of votes surprised a
33:34
lot of people just because that a loyalty to Carper, I think, right,
33:36
And that was my concern in going into this race also. But as
33:40
I told you earlier, you know, there were just people who were saying,
33:44
please run, please consider it, So they were feeling something before I
33:49
even realized that all this seat was going to be open. But this is
33:52
why you campaign also, and this is why you go out and ask for
33:58
votes. In asking for votes, you should be listening. So I was
34:01
listening, and I could tell by the vibe from the people, and it
34:07
truly was when I would say I'm running for county commission. Oh great,
34:09
it's time for a change. And then I might say who my opponent is
34:13
and then they were like, oh, you definitely have my vote. So
34:15
I felt it early on, and I just kept chess, kept going and
34:20
going, and you know, listening to people, there are so many there.
34:25
You talked about good and bad things with Chris. There are so many
34:29
good and bad things. You just one of your last sponsorship was about clean
34:34
air on the inside of your house. But you know, people are coming
34:37
to West Virginia because and there's the term I didn't know un till I was
34:43
listening to someone and they told me called climate refugees, and they're looking for
34:46
places. And her friend came to Sissonville because it had the best rated air.
34:52
So that's a positive for Kanawha County. And you just just look around.
34:58
Yeah, we're getting a lot of rain, everything green. But we
35:00
can also we can also I don't like the word take advantage of it,
35:04
but we can make it so much more valuable about what we have to offer
35:09
and get people outside dag on ninety percent of the time we're inside. I'm
35:14
a farm girl and a gen X, so we were never inside. No,
35:17
you're I was having that conversation with somebody the other day. It was
35:21
a pretty day on Sunday. I even told my wife and said, this
35:22
is the kind of day when I was a kid, I would have been
35:25
on my bike at seven o'clock in the morning and gone, maybe come home
35:28
when the street lights go out. Maybe I want to say one more thing
35:30
about the rate that this race then will move on. You've been involved in
35:34
other campaigns, but this one was a little bit different because even had Commissioner
35:37
Carper, even if he didn't had not resigned on Friday, there was still
35:42
that cloud of controversy over his head. But to my knowledge and to your
35:46
credit, all, I mean, we all knew this. This story broke
35:50
last May about the controversy with to my dogge today Tom? Was it today?
35:54
Okay? And it was last May. To my knowledge, you did
35:58
not focus on at all. You could have, you could have, but
36:02
you chose to. I mean, well, that's that I was trying to
36:06
get a sense of it, a sense of how the race would go.
36:08
And I know I didn't. I didn't do that. I respect his family
36:14
too much. You have to respect the position too, and that's that's just
36:20
the way that I felt about it, that we didn't need to do this.
36:23
There were enough questions people brought it up to me, like I didn't
36:27
have to say anything. Then there was a time I was up and quick
36:31
and in this old ninety year old Navy vet says, you know, tell
36:35
me about this, and I said, I don't really know. And then
36:37
I was like, well, it's my job to be able to tell people
36:40
what's going on? Should I be asking? And then I still didn't.
36:45
I still just wanted to take the high road. That's that's your guys' job,
36:49
is the well the meaning, And I think you're to be commended for
36:51
that. I really do. I mean this this campaign and this is just
36:55
editorializing on my part, and I'm not talking about cant commission, talk about
36:58
in general. A lot of what we saw, especially out of the governor's
37:00
race, just disgusted me. And and I'm any advertising business and we're not
37:05
going to turn down money. But if you can't do any better than that,
37:08
I just I don't know. It was disgusting. No, I mean,
37:10
that's just me though. Yeah, I mean, and that's you know,
37:13
and that'll be an interesting race. Then with Steve Williams, and I
37:15
wish Steve willis. You know, he's not running it. He didn't have
37:19
an opponent in the Democrat primary. But he's a statesman and he should have
37:23
shown that right away because people are going to forget about all those nasty commercials,
37:28
you know, come come the fall and Steve Williams can show what a
37:31
what a statesman he is or could have during that. But that's you want.
37:37
You want to be able to tell what you're going to do or just
37:40
give me plans and not say generalizations. I'm gonna make it better. Yeah,
37:46
Dave Allan chilling five Any Life is brought to you partly by Husband's Pizza.

37:52

37:55

38:00
exhale and now maybe take a couple of days, but then you're going
38:02
to be back at it this summer and be taking on Chris Walters, former
38:07
legislator, insurance executive. He was on the show prior to you. I
38:12
know you were listening to talk about that match up with Chris Walters. Yeah,
38:14
I mean, for me, we just talked about this primary. That's
38:17
why I can't. I don't feel like I can exhale because I have to
38:22
go back. And I mean there were a lot of people who said,
38:25
I'm with you, I want you to win. I can't help you right
38:28
now until after the primary. Well they're gonna get calls from Natalie and say
38:32
it's after the primary. I need your help now. And so what Chris
38:36
and I will do is continue to be positive and come up and show everyone
38:44
what our ideas are. I mean, that's the I'm writing this down because
38:47
both of you said that. So that's for the record. Let that show
38:51
on May fifteenth and on my show. But both Chris Walters and Natalie Tennant
38:54
said they were going to run a clean race. What happens, and you
38:59
know this, unfortunately what happens to us, other people get involved, and
39:02
sometimes you know that can happen. But but well, I hope it says
39:07
that way. I really don't. Yeah, I mean, I'm gonna come
39:08
up like there are specifics you asked this question about, you know, different
39:14
parts of the county and you're exactly right. I saw you out in Saint
39:17
Albans and a couple times people in Saint Aubans be like, don't forget about
39:22
us. Kenawa County doesn't end in Charleston, don't forget about Saint Albans.
39:24
And I'm like, I'm here, I don't forget about it. My daughter's
39:28
first performance was at the Alburn Theater in twenty ten. You don't tell me,
39:34
you know, as a theater mom, just like a sports mom,
39:36
you don't know where every little store is something you got to pick up.
39:38
So I know all the little places in Saint Albans now and even beyond.
39:43
But here's an example, like Nitro is starting the community is starting an appy
39:47
area with beekeepers. They're painting all of these bee boxes. So here is
39:52
a little community project that they're starting. And I'm like, you, guys,
39:55
you can start having you can start selling this high. Nitro is the
40:00
place to be. And then I know about what's taking place in the eastern
40:05
part of the county. Heck, you might be able to sell some of
40:07
that honey to some of the businesses that will be coming when the recreation plan
40:12
is in place and there's all these stores put up when we get from Marmett
40:15
to golly Bridge. So that's that's what I that's this is the specifics that
40:21
I have in listening to what everyone says. It's been a pleasure to have
40:24
you on the show. And I'm going to kind of leave it with you
40:28
to just say, give you an opportunity to thank people, thank the voters,
40:31
your family, go ahead and throw them in there and talk about your
40:34
vision. And you've talked about it a lot, but go ahead and moving
40:37
forward, and we'll be having you on of course several times during the summer
40:38
and end of the fall, but go ahead and yeah, time as you
40:42
and we have a lot going on. We still have an open seat in
40:44
the County Commission. That's a good yeah, Dave, you needed to ask
40:47
me that there is that there is that. Once a reporter, always a
40:52
reporter. So so what's going to happen with this with this open seat is
40:55
now, first of all, and you know you know this former Secretary of
40:59
State, you gotta wait for elections to be certified right on the twentieth of
41:01
May in the morning. So so then the Democratic or I guess the Executive
41:07
Committee will weigh in on what they county christof it's the county commission for first.
41:13
Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's they. They may ask for applications,
41:19
do an interview, and then those true. Yeah, that comes first,
41:22
and if they can't decide on someone, then there's a new piece of
41:25
legislation. And we're all like when did this come into play? That the
41:30
county the executive committee of the party of the person left so it's a Democrat,
41:34
will choose three names, and then Commissioner Selango gets to mark one off,
41:39
Wheeler gets to mark one off, and the person left is the person
41:43
last person standing. Exactly exactly would you like to be if I'm going to
41:46
apply? Like what, yes, I mean, I want to be County
41:51
commissioner today. Let's get at it. Let's let's get started. I have
41:54
ten miles up in dutch Ridge that needs water lines. They are living out
42:00
of a cistern and if it doesn't rain, they don't have water. And
42:02
if they don't have water, they got to go get their truck in all
42:06
these big tanks. Doesn't that sound like a third world country? That's in
42:08
Kanawa County our stay in twenty twenty four exactly, So that's why I want
42:13
to be Kanah County commissioner today. So yes, I'm going to apply for
42:16
it and see how it goes. And I think, you know, the
42:21
twentieth they can announce it because they'll be in session. Then they'll have another
42:24
meeting to accept the folks. And I said this on their coverage last night,
42:30
Natalie, that one or two things could happen. They could decide to
42:32
go that route, or they could talk. And this has happened before they
42:35
get somebody who basically is a placeholder, you know, somebody who just comes
42:37
in and says, Okay, I'm not gonna run, I'm not interested.
42:39
I'm just I'm just fulfilling my civic duty by servant County commission it. You
42:44
know what, and they can, you know, their chest can boltst out.
42:46
We did a placeholder. Well that's not good because what about the people.
42:52
Do they want a placeholder or do they want someone that they've already voted
42:57
on that though I've already said we're going to lift her up to see if
43:00
she can win the general election. And we do it all the time.
43:05
You talked about more Capito. He resigned. They filled it with jb Acres,
43:09
and JB became the incumbent, same with Doug Scapin. Republicans and Democrats
43:14
both do it. So so don't give me placeholder motion. Give me let's
43:19
get it together and get to work. All right, we'll leave it there.
43:22
I appreciate you being here. I didn't get to say that and started
43:25
off, but thank you, thank you, and thank you. Family took.
43:30
Yes. You know, we're in a unique situation because my husband's serving
43:34
on active duty right now, so he can't do a whole lot. And
43:37
my daughter is an aspiring journalist who's an independent and she can't do a whole
43:42
lot. But she saw the process last night and loves it and fascinated pictures,
43:45
a big, big picture of the two. Have you in the paper
43:46
today? Oh is it? Yeah? Well good, we're gonna we're gonna
43:50
like that too. But you know, she's been in this since he was
43:52
eighteen months old, but now it's like clicking in and this poor child just
43:57
thought she was going to a reception to getting bunch of stuff to eat,
43:59
and is more to it than that? All right, Natalie, wish you
44:01
the best of luck. We'll talk against some things a lot, the impact

46:57
note from the world of politics. A long time replace we can legislature out
47:00
of run counties passed away. Bob Ashley served the legislature for thirty two years
47:06
and he's passed away at the age of seventy. And he was definitely a
47:08
great public servant. Bob Ashley dead at the age of seventy Hoppy, we'll
47:13
have more on that coming up as part of the talk line. At ten
47:15
six this morning, Tex says, neither candidate mentioned the Upper Canall Valley.
47:22
That's Upper Canall Valley. Well, they did the abbreviation. There a third
47:25
world area from a government to Campbell's Creek at both sides of the river,
47:28
same as has been for seventy five years, says a text. Let me
47:32
bring in now the presumptive nominae for sheriff as there's no candidate field on the
47:37
Democratic side. Current Chief Deputy Joe Crawford. Joe, good morning, Welcome
47:40
to the show. Dave, thank you so much for having me. Appreciate
47:43
you talk about the race. Hey, we started his journey back in June.
47:46
It was a great race. We were in a good campaign. More
47:50
proud of what we did, and you know, at the end of the
47:52
day, the hard work paid off. We're very blessed and fortunate, and
47:57
you know, we had a great team. We I think we did it
48:00
kind of the old fashioned way, getting out and talking to people, uh
48:04
and winning, winning and winning votes. Over we'll talk about working for the
48:08
current sheriff, Mike Rutherford. He is now term limited out and he'll be
48:13
going off in the I don't see he's gone off in the pasture because he
48:15
could still with me. But uh but uh, but but he's certainly earned
48:19
it. Uh. So talk about your time working for for sheriff brother.
48:22
It's been it's been a joint of pleasure. You know, he and I
48:24
were friends before he asked me to come on as his chief deputy. And
48:29
we've known each other for thirty some years. And a lot of people don't
48:31
know this, but he started his career out at Saint Auban's PD. Uh
48:35
where you know where I was. So I lived in Saint Aubans, so
48:38
we knew each other. But Dave, you don't get elected four terms as
48:43
a sheriff here in Kanall County and not be doing things right. Uh.
48:46
They've they've set the Sheriff's Apartment up for success. I want to continue that
48:51
success. You know, the equipment, the specialized units, the training,
48:54
the technology. Uh, you know, sky's a limit. But and I
48:59
will take take my hat off to the County Commission. They know it's a
49:01
team effort, I think in county government or city government, but it's working
49:07
together to accomplish things. You get people moving in the same direction, with
49:10
the same goals, same vision moving forward. And the County Commission has been
49:15
very good to the Sheriff's office. You know, recruiting and retention. We
49:19
talked about that earlier when we were on here previously. It's an issue facing
49:24
not only here in Kanaw County in state of West Virginia, but it's across
49:28
the nation. But we were very fortunate the first year and a half I
49:31
was there to gain a fourteen percent pay increase for our deputies and that helped
49:36
us not lose people to other agencies such as the state police or federal agencies.
49:42
So I think that was a key part of us. And then you
49:44
look at the projects that we're right in the middle of now, the body
49:46
camera body one camera project, the in car cameras, and the radio upgrade
49:53
for all public safety, police, fire and the MS. So we want
49:59
to contend that's the things we want to continue moving the county forward and make
50:02
sure our citizens are well protected in our employees or well taken care of and
50:07
have what they need to do their jobs. But Dave Island showing five any
50:09
life is brought to you apart by Morgan then Morgan with more than twenty billion
50:14
dollars recovered. They believe when you're injured, you deserve more. Morgan and
50:16
Morgan in America's largest injury law firm. What did you hear out on the
50:19
campaign trail? I had you on just a couple of weeks ago, kind
50:22
of a meet the Candidate's type segment. You told me some of the things,
50:23
but as you were traveling, I know you were out knocking on a
50:27
whole lot of doors and things of that nature. What did you What did
50:30
you hear out on the campaign trail? I think the one thing that resonated
50:31
they appreciated how we did our campaign. You know, we kept it based,
50:36
I think, focused on the issues. I think a lot of people
50:37
didn't want to hear a lot of the rhetoric, so to speak, and
50:42
that's that's what I focused on. I focused on you know, where been,
50:45
what I've done, some people get to know me, but to where
50:47
we're going in the future and what I see as far as the future here
50:52
at the Sheriff's Office, and we tried to maintain that throughout the campaign.
50:57
I think it was very successful. I think that was the right right way
51:00
to go. So the next couple of months, in the next several months,
51:04
you know, you're going to continue to service the chief deputy here in
51:06
Kanah County, and not that you need any more on the job training,
51:09
but it's an opportunity for more on the job training. I guess right,
51:13
yeah, absolutely. I mean I've learned a lot of these first three years,
51:16
and we've been busy. I mean, you look at some of the
51:19
major credit coincidents we've had here recently. But it just goes to show how
51:24
resent our people are. You know, our best resources are our employees are
51:32
the people go out every day and do the job. And it's our job,
51:36
I think, as leaders, to make sure we give them the tools,
51:39
the training, and the technology to do their job better, safer,
51:44
and deliver quality service to the sistans, Kennall County and We're very proud of
51:49
that. I'm proud of our people. I'm gonna give you the final thirty
51:51
seconds to thank whoever you need to think, family, friends, co workers,
51:53
What do you got? Dave, thank you so much. I couldn't
51:57
have done this without my family, you know. Yeah, yesterday I told
52:00
you this last night. I think yesterday it was my twenty fifth wedding anniversary.
52:04
Yes, it was hag A way to spend my anniversary. My wife
52:07
of twenty five years, Kathy, She's just been great. And the family
52:12
support and the support of all the citizens. You know, I think I
52:15
could go on over and over again about all the support, but so thankful
52:19
for all the people that voted and the people just thank you for getting out
52:22
and voting and selecting me in. I promise I won't let you down.
