Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Andrew all listeners with us for sport. Good morning greetings.
- 0:03Speaker 1: How are we doing these forty nine er sailors in Mussam?
- 0:06Speaker 2: Yeah, Imus say, the probably the best of the performers
- 0:09Speaker 2: of the New Zealand team overnight, I think winning a race.
- 0:13Speaker 2: They're opening race setting a standard, picked up a third
- 0:16Speaker 2: and then they've had an eighth as well. But you
- 0:18Speaker 2: can drop your worst performance, so they can drop the
- 0:21Speaker 2: eighth for now depending on how they go with the
- 0:23Speaker 2: rest that are regatta. So that's an excellent effort from
- 0:28Speaker 2: McKenzie and McCarty, so well done to them. Not so
- 0:31Speaker 2: good for the forty nine er effects Joe la and
- 0:34Speaker 2: Molly Meach last by comparison, so that's a bit of
- 0:38Speaker 2: a contrast anyway.
- 0:40Speaker 1: But what about early days Lewis Claibert. Is he going
- 0:42Speaker 1: to do it this morning.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Cheap as I hope. So it's been a long wait
- 0:48Speaker 2: for a middle on a pool for New Zealand nineteen
- 0:50Speaker 2: ninety six, Danion Loader. I was at university at the time.
- 0:53Speaker 2: We watched it in the university hostel up the road
- 0:56Speaker 2: at Iraq Hall and it was quite something. But it
- 0:58Speaker 2: seems a long time ago, twenty.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Eight years crazy, maybe he.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Can, but he struggled to some degree in the heat,
- 1:06Speaker 2: I did think, And he finished fourth, and it's going
- 1:09Speaker 2: to be a struggle to take out Leon Marshaun with
- 1:11Speaker 2: that French crowd behind him, So there's one medal, I
- 1:13Speaker 2: would have thought. So, yeah, he's got a battle on
- 1:16Speaker 2: his hands.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Yeah, and the new Michael Phelps they're calling him, aren't
- 1:20Speaker 1: they that? Yeah?
- 1:21Speaker 2: He and honestly he was really impressive. Yeah, Yeah, terrific
- 1:25Speaker 2: medley swimmer and just yeah, I just think you've almost Yeah,
- 1:30Speaker 2: you just gain some meters or some sort of slipperiness
- 1:33Speaker 2: when you get in the pool with that sort of crowd, Yeah,
- 1:35Speaker 2: behind you.
- 1:36Speaker 1: The water quality in the river sense, Oh.
- 1:39Speaker 2: It's ongoing, right is it? I mean I think should
- 1:42Speaker 2: they have moved this by now? I mean it's so
- 1:45Speaker 2: depend on if they get rain, then they get problems.
- 1:48Speaker 2: So they're kind of waiting on the weathers to see it.
- 1:50Speaker 2: And it's disruptive for the triathletes and the marathon swimmers
- 1:53Speaker 2: for that matter. So yeah, they couldn't They couldn't train
- 1:57Speaker 2: today because of the rain and therefore washes it through
- 1:59Speaker 2: and it stirs it all up, et cetera. So one day,
- 2:03Speaker 2: the quality is okay. Next it's not. It just seems
- 2:07Speaker 2: they had a lot there. It's not a particularly good
- 2:10Speaker 2: element to the Games. I mean there's been some great
- 2:12Speaker 2: elements so far, but that's that's a bit of.
- 2:14Speaker 1: A sound across. Yeah, the medal tally, Australia we don't
- 2:20Speaker 1: feature too prominently on that.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Making up the numbers at the moment. But it's all
- 2:27Speaker 2: about the medals, right.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Well, it is Australia is out in front at the moment.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Apparently they are.
- 2:32Speaker 2: They've had some six medals for all reckoning.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Yeah, four golds, two silvers. I've got South Korea in there, China,
- 2:38Speaker 1: Japan up there, the US up there too.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Yeah, here are we the usual suspect. Yeah, maybe it's
- 2:47Speaker 2: maybe it's gonna be a little clear of it, I hope,
- 2:48Speaker 2: so fingers crossed.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Yeah, it will be awesome. So any medal, whether it's bronze,
- 2:53Speaker 1: it would be our first swimming medal since nineteen ninety six.
- 2:56Speaker 1: That's right. Yeah, we're a country surrounded by water, shouldn't
- 3:00Speaker 1: we'd be good at something.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Well that's what the silists are doing.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Well that true anyway? True? All right, Andrew Ortison was
