- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with I Heart Radio. What do we make of Aaron
- 0:19Speaker 1: Rodgers comments yesterday he can go win an m d
- 0:23Speaker 1: P somewhere else. We'll try to make sense of a
- 0:26Speaker 1: coming up shortly on this edition of NFL Now on
- 0:29Speaker 1: NFL Network from our newsroom in Los Angeles, the Wednesday
- 0:33Speaker 1: before the best football weekend of the year, the Wednesday
- 0:36Speaker 1: before the divisional round. Let's get our insiders in here first, however,
- 0:40Speaker 1: and get some news as the coaching carousel continues to spin.
- 0:44Speaker 1: We have the inter app report, we have Mike Gara
- 0:46Speaker 1: follow and we have the latest on Sean Payton and
- 0:51Speaker 1: he met with the Broncos yesterday in l A. What
- 0:53Speaker 1: do we know his second interview this week? Houston Texans
- 0:58Speaker 1: were on Monday Denver Broncos in Los Angeles for multiple hours.
- 1:02Speaker 1: That happened yesterday. Then he's got the Carolina pat Is
- 1:05Speaker 1: in New York with owner Dave Tepper later this week.
- 1:08Speaker 1: And as of right now, that is it for Sean Payton.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Mike and the Arizona Cardinals also have a request in
- 1:14Speaker 1: they PI permission all of these teams. The teams are
- 1:16Speaker 1: willing to meet these Saints asking price, which is a
- 1:20Speaker 1: first rounder, and likely more so, they are in business
- 1:23Speaker 1: and they're ready to do the deal if they in
- 1:25Speaker 1: fact end up doing the deal. And really, uh, for
- 1:28Speaker 1: Sean Payton, I think there's a couple of things. One,
- 1:31Speaker 1: all of these teams represent interesting and different opportunities, So
- 1:34Speaker 1: which really a matter of him deciding what he wants.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Russell Wilson and Denver obviously Houston Texans do not have
- 1:41Speaker 1: a quarterback, will likely be picking one at number two.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Carolina Panthers also do not have a quarterback. Does he
- 1:46Speaker 1: want to establish one? Does he want to help pick
- 1:48Speaker 1: his own? Where does the cap space land? Some teams
- 1:51Speaker 1: have general managers, like say the Denver Broncos. Some teams
- 1:55Speaker 1: also also Houston Texans of course uh. And and look
- 1:58Speaker 1: there's varying degrees of would he get final say, would
- 2:01Speaker 1: he not? A lot? Here at stake for Shaun Payton
- 2:04Speaker 1: in a lot of the city is to be made. Well,
- 2:07Speaker 1: I know which way you were going, because that's the
- 2:08Speaker 1: way we started the week, which is the Arizona Cardinals
- 2:11Speaker 1: didn't have a general manager, and so maybe that was
- 2:14Speaker 1: more attractive to him because he could really set things
- 2:16Speaker 1: up the way that he wanted to. But monthy astin
- 2:18Speaker 1: fort now higher there, So maybe does that one become
- 2:22Speaker 1: less attractive to him. Look, and all those scenarios that
- 2:24Speaker 1: you painted, there's still the scenario of there's no perfect
- 2:27Speaker 1: fit right now for him. So maybe he just goes
- 2:30Speaker 1: back and does another year at Fox and restarts this
- 2:33Speaker 1: next year when we know there will be more job openings.
- 2:36Speaker 1: That's just the way it happens in the NFL. So, uh,
- 2:39Speaker 1: stay tuned for this. This is this does not feel
- 2:41Speaker 1: like Sean Payton is looking at this like there's a
- 2:44Speaker 1: sense of urgency like I gotta get back in. I
- 2:46Speaker 1: got it. It's only sounds like it's. Uh, he's gonna
- 2:49Speaker 1: jump back in if the situation is right for him.
- 2:52Speaker 1: So we'll continue to monitor this and once he gets
- 2:54Speaker 1: through that Panther's interview with David Tepper, which is going
- 2:57Speaker 1: to be in New York. Uh, He's he's bike coastal
- 3:00Speaker 1: right here. He's hitting everything on both sides. I was
- 3:03Speaker 1: gonna say, like, if you can't father job living on
- 3:05Speaker 1: the beach in l A, it's not so bad. It's
- 3:09Speaker 1: not so bad. Ye wait, wait till next year. If
- 3:12Speaker 1: you want to meantime, the Patriots I and can't wait
- 3:15Speaker 1: until next year. They need a new offensive coordinator relatively quickly.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Interesting list of names we have for that job. Let's
- 3:24Speaker 1: start with Keenan McCardell, the receiver's coach for the Minnesota Vikings,
- 3:27Speaker 1: who goes all the way back to the Cleveland Browns
- 3:30Speaker 1: with coach Bill Belichick. He received h the Patriots question
- 3:35Speaker 1: provision interview him. He will interview obviously a long long
- 3:38Speaker 1: history there for Bill Belichick. And then you have Bill O'Brien,
- 3:42Speaker 1: who is certainly a prime candidate here. Most people believe
- 3:45Speaker 1: he is the favorite I would say to get the
- 3:48Speaker 1: offensive coordinator job, not that anything has done at all.
- 3:50Speaker 1: I'm just saying he has firmly established position as someone
- 3:54Speaker 1: that many people inside the organization want back. Currently the
- 3:57Speaker 1: Alabama offensive coordinator who is right now out recruiting. And
- 4:00Speaker 1: then there's Nick Cayley, who interviewed today. He is there
- 4:04Speaker 1: is interviewing today, is the tight ends coach for the Patriots.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Itsidered a really bright young coach and I think, like
- 4:10Speaker 1: a lot of Patriots coaches, very much under the radar,
- 4:13Speaker 1: but outside the Patriots in the league, including the Jets,
- 4:17Speaker 1: who interviewed him for Rosie, someone who was really well respected.
- 4:20Speaker 1: All right, Keno Cardel, that would go all the way
- 4:21Speaker 1: back to the old Browns in Cleveland. Undrafted free agent,
- 4:24Speaker 1: had a great career and ended up obviously in Jacksonville,
- 4:27Speaker 1: and now he has been coaching. Let's get to Nashville,
- 4:32Speaker 1: the Titans having love to go to Nashville. We'd love
- 4:34Speaker 1: to go to Nashville right now, just a random Wednesday trip.
- 4:37Speaker 1: We could work go there for the ran Carthon press conference.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Why not tell us why this was the right fit
- 4:44Speaker 1: for their new GM, replacing John Robinson, fired last month. Yeah,
- 4:48Speaker 1: the ran Carthon press conference scheduled for Friday as of
- 4:51Speaker 1: right now with the Titans announcing today what we reported yesterday.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Ian slightly ahead of me because his fingers are just faster,
- 4:59Speaker 1: they're just in more shape. But are as the better shape?
- 5:04Speaker 1: Well only his fingers, just his fingers. Uh, he works
- 5:08Speaker 1: them a lot, ran Carthon, Uh, let's move on the
- 5:11Speaker 1: new general manager of the Tennessee Titans. Uh. He beat
- 5:15Speaker 1: out Ian Cunningham from the Bears, who was on a
- 5:17Speaker 1: rapid rise formerly of the Eagles, went to Chicago, and
- 5:20Speaker 1: now I had a second interview with the Titans. I know,
- 5:22Speaker 1: I was asked this, how did it go from these
- 5:25Speaker 1: guys are gonna have second interviews to Ran Carthon hired
- 5:27Speaker 1: like that? Because Carthon was in the building for his
- 5:29Speaker 1: second interview yesterday. Ryan cowt In, the internal candidate, also
- 5:34Speaker 1: had a second look as well. But Carthon is the
- 5:36Speaker 1: one that blew the team away got the job. Titans
- 5:39Speaker 1: controlling owner Amy Adams strunk, noting what a great job
- 5:42Speaker 1: the forty Niners have done out there building their roster.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Adam Peters, one of the other UH personnel folks underneath
- 5:49Speaker 1: John Lynch, would have been in line for jobs, but
- 5:51Speaker 1: as Ian reported, he wants to stay in San Francisco
- 5:53Speaker 1: for now. But Amy Adam strunk with the quote, saying, uh,
- 5:57Speaker 1: he played an important role. They're constructing one of the
- 6:00Speaker 1: league's best teams with the forty Niners. She also noted
- 6:03Speaker 1: his leadership of alities and his abilities to connect with people.
- 6:07Speaker 1: So Ran Carthon, son of former NFL UH running back
- 6:10Speaker 1: Maurice Carthon, a former player himself, worked his way up
- 6:15Speaker 1: and now as a general manager for the Tesse Type
- 6:17Speaker 1: from Atlanta to St. Louis to Los Angeles to San
- 6:19Speaker 1: Francisco and now to Tennessee as the general manager. All right, Ian,
- 6:24Speaker 1: how are your fingers with the typing of the tweeting
- 6:26Speaker 1: and are they in shape? On the Nathaniel Hackett talking
- 6:29Speaker 1: to the Jets story? But sure, um, Nathaniel Hacket is
- 6:35Speaker 1: interviewing now with the Jets. They're interviewing, doing a wide
- 6:38Speaker 1: ranging o C search, a lot of veteran names. I
- 6:41Speaker 1: think hiring a veteran generally would make sense for the
- 6:44Speaker 1: New York Jets. Really, the question here for Hackett is
- 6:46Speaker 1: does it make sense for him to come back and
- 6:48Speaker 1: coach this year? It's such a a you know, sort
- 6:52Speaker 1: of high stress, highly visible position. Is gonna be a
- 6:55Speaker 1: lot of eyeballs on the New York Jets. Obviously there's
- 6:58Speaker 1: a chance to get it right. But considering what he's
- 7:00Speaker 1: been through, consuming the Broncos are paying him for several
- 7:03Speaker 1: years to come, doesn't make sense for him to come
- 7:06Speaker 1: back and be d o C for nothing when he
- 7:08Speaker 1: could be taking a year off and taking a deep breath.
- 7:10Speaker 1: I think that is the question that Hacket, in most
- 7:12Speaker 1: coaches who have been fired as head coaches need to
- 7:15Speaker 1: ask themselves. History shows that taking a year off makes
- 7:18Speaker 1: a lot of sense and does a lot of help.
- 7:20Speaker 1: We'll see if Hackett has that decision, whether it's in
- 7:22Speaker 1: Thailand or sitting on a beach in Los Angeles. Go ahead, yeah,
- 7:30Speaker 1: thirteen months ago, Thank you guys. Nathaniel Hackett was an
- 7:33Speaker 1: assistant and the offensive coordinator in Green Bay for this guy,
- 7:37Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers, who walked off the field week a team
- 7:40Speaker 1: after losing to the Lions to only more questions? Did
- 7:44Speaker 1: he answer any of those questions yesterday with Pat McAfee,
- 7:48Speaker 1: Uh baby, all right? Having audio difficulties there, Bucky Brooks
- 8:08Speaker 1: with the Aaron Rodgers tape on of Pat McAfee. But
- 8:13Speaker 1: I'm gonna read from a card, Bucky and give you
- 8:15Speaker 1: a general idea of what he said. He said that
- 8:19Speaker 1: he doesn't have a feeling which way yet he is leaning.
- 8:22Speaker 1: He says he's not physically or emotionally ready to make
- 8:26Speaker 1: that decision yet as to whether or not he wants
- 8:28Speaker 1: to come back and play unto the year with the Packers.
- 8:30Speaker 1: He also said something interesting about he thinks he can
- 8:33Speaker 1: still win another m v P, and some people are
- 8:36Speaker 1: reading that as well, what you can't win another super Bowl?
- 8:39Speaker 1: You're only thinking about winning another m v P. Um
- 8:42Speaker 1: The question was can you still play? And so he
- 8:44Speaker 1: answered affirmatively he can still play. I know you heard
- 8:47Speaker 1: what Rogers said. We'll try to play it a little
- 8:49Speaker 1: bit later. What did you take from all that? Oh? Look, man,
- 8:53Speaker 1: I think Aaron Rodgers still wants to play. I think
- 8:56Speaker 1: the big thing is where's he yet in this stage
- 8:59Speaker 1: of his career when it comes to how he plays.
- 9:02Speaker 1: I think last year was very telling. Aaron Rodgers was
- 9:04Speaker 1: not the game Aaron Rodgers that won back to back
- 9:07Speaker 1: m vps. And as much as we love the idea
- 9:10Speaker 1: of a player a quarterback playing into the forties, that's
- 9:13Speaker 1: not really a reality for most players. Last year we
- 9:17Speaker 1: saw Aaron Rodgers not be the same. He doesn't want
- 9:19Speaker 1: to take his he's not taking context, he doesn't push
- 9:22Speaker 1: the ball down the field like he has in the past. Yeah,
- 9:26Speaker 1: he might be able to play at the m v
- 9:27Speaker 1: P level, but everything around him is going to have
- 9:30Speaker 1: to be spectacular. The playmakers, the offensive line, the running backs.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Much like we see with Tom Brady, it is more
- 9:37Speaker 1: important now as an older quarterback that the supporting cast
- 9:41Speaker 1: is right. They have to do more of the lifting
- 9:44Speaker 1: than the quarterback. And so unless he finds a situation
- 9:47Speaker 1: in Green Bay where it's going to be like that, No,
- 9:50Speaker 1: I don't think Aaron Rodgers can play at the m
- 9:52Speaker 1: v P level and the way the contract is, I
- 9:55Speaker 1: don't think he can go anywhere else. And so we
- 9:57Speaker 1: will talk about this offseason because that's what we do.
- 10:01Speaker 1: But Aaron Rodgers, if he comes back, he is going
- 10:03Speaker 1: to need more support from others and they need to
- 10:06Speaker 1: change their style of play if they're going to win
- 10:09Speaker 1: with an aging quarterback in the twilight of his career,
- 10:11Speaker 1: and he did mention Robert Tania and now on Wizard
- 10:14Speaker 1: and David Baktri and other pieces Randall Cobb that he
- 10:17Speaker 1: would enjoy playing with Mercedes Lewis. But to your point,
- 10:21Speaker 1: you can't bring all those guys back necessarily when you're
- 10:23Speaker 1: paying the quarterback as much as you are right. And
- 10:26Speaker 1: if you say everything has to be spectacular, Buck, you're
- 10:30Speaker 1: real quick. Do you think it can be spectacular around
- 10:33Speaker 1: him in Green Bay? Oh, it can be spectacular if
- 10:37Speaker 1: he gets away from wanting to play with his friends,
- 10:40Speaker 1: if he allows the front officers to go and ask
- 10:42Speaker 1: some pieces that are younger and more dynamic than the
- 10:44Speaker 1: older pieces that he's stating, yes, but he's also going
- 10:48Speaker 1: to have to meet them halfway by showing up in
- 10:50Speaker 1: the off season and working with those young players to
- 10:54Speaker 1: develop the bond and the trust and rapport that you
- 10:56Speaker 1: need to have. And so I know, we like to
- 10:59Speaker 1: portray Aaron Rodgers as the victim and the Packers didn't
- 11:02Speaker 1: do enough. But hey man, when you pay the quarterback
- 11:04Speaker 1: the amount of money that they have paid the quarterback,
- 11:06Speaker 1: they need the quarterback to show up and to nurture
- 11:09Speaker 1: the young pieces, and so they need to be spectacular.
- 11:12Speaker 1: But he has to help them because spectacular players by
- 11:15Speaker 1: teaching them what he has learned along the way. Love it, Bucky,
- 11:19Speaker 1: stay right there, let's talk. Jack Warres, chiefs everything you've got,
- 11:25Speaker 1: the guy next to you. Shut your back. We're not
- 11:27Speaker 1: done after tonight. Feel me make sure we make that happen.
- 11:30Speaker 1: Let's go. Trevor fires that calls intercepted and the Chargers
- 11:33Speaker 1: have their fourth interception of Trevor Lawrence in the first
- 11:36Speaker 1: half of a while. He just be let's go. We've
- 11:41Speaker 1: been in a position before so many times. Just stop,
- 11:44Speaker 1: just stop the belief. We're good like we got practice tomorrow.
- 11:48Speaker 1: We ain't got none. Tomorrow. We don't win this, turn
- 11:50Speaker 1: this lousing empty or take Trevor fires Deepail got a
- 11:58Speaker 1: time we get back in this game forward Fires for
- 12:02Speaker 1: the right corner of the end zone, Clods for the
- 12:04Speaker 1: touchdown yard from the right hash to win the game.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Patterson's kicking up the field goal is good, good, good,
- 12:20Speaker 1: good bye Woted. Here's hoping the game Saturday in Kansas
- 12:31Speaker 1: City is as good, good, good as the game we
- 12:36Speaker 1: had Saturday evening in Jacksonville. It is a rematch, same
- 12:40Speaker 1: two teams, same building from week ten. Obviously, the environment
- 12:45Speaker 1: and the atmosphere we're going to play in as one of,
- 12:47Speaker 1: if not the best, in the NFL. I mean, I
- 12:50Speaker 1: can't imagine it will be much louder than our fans
- 12:53Speaker 1: were here on Saturday, honestly, but that was when we
- 12:55Speaker 1: were on defense, not offense. So we played there earlier
- 12:59Speaker 1: in the year. But this is a little bit different.
- 13:00Speaker 1: You know, it's a playoff game, divisional round. The difference is,
- 13:03Speaker 1: you know, you you win and keep going, you lose
- 13:05Speaker 1: and you're done. So there's that there's that sense of
- 13:07Speaker 1: urgency of just I mean, I don't want to say
- 13:11Speaker 1: it this way, but just the desperation of doing everything
- 13:15Speaker 1: you can to win the game, and you feel that
- 13:16Speaker 1: on both sides of the ball. And that's It's that
- 13:17Speaker 1: way in the regular season too, but it's just another
- 13:20Speaker 1: level just because everybody knows. You know, this is especially
- 13:23Speaker 1: now in the divisional round. We're getting deeper and deeper
- 13:26Speaker 1: in this thing. People know what's on the line, and
- 13:29Speaker 1: you just, I mean, guys just willing to do whatever
- 13:30Speaker 1: it takes to win. Desperation. Interesting, Oh my rouised with
- 13:34Speaker 1: us to talk about this one as well. Desperation which
- 13:36Speaker 1: they showed last week guys in the second half, but
- 13:40Speaker 1: then obviously they didn't show to the first half. Buck.
- 13:42Speaker 1: It's interesting because week tend when they were there, they
- 13:44Speaker 1: forced three turnovers, right, they recovered an onside kick to
- 13:47Speaker 1: start the game, but they still couldn't do much whatsoever
- 13:52Speaker 1: and they lost. They need to have this week. Yeah,
- 13:56Speaker 1: they need two haves. And I think the one thing
- 13:58Speaker 1: that you're watching, you're watching the Jaguars grew up right
- 14:01Speaker 1: in front of our eyes. They played a winner, go
- 14:03Speaker 1: home game against the Tennessee It is a couple of
- 14:05Speaker 1: weeks ago. They played their first playoff game in years
- 14:08Speaker 1: last weekend, and hearing Trevor talking about the desperation that
- 14:12Speaker 1: the company is a playoff game. You have to remember,
- 14:14Speaker 1: you had a bunch of newbies who have never been
- 14:16Speaker 1: in a playoff environment, and each round that you go,
- 14:19Speaker 1: there's a level of urgency and intensity that skills up.
- 14:22Speaker 1: And so now that they've played in it, they have
- 14:25Speaker 1: a better understanding of how important those little moments are
- 14:28Speaker 1: for the quarterback. In particular, he saw what turnovers due
- 14:32Speaker 1: in big games and how you have to dig yourself
- 14:35Speaker 1: out of holes. It is on Trevor Lawrence to play better,
- 14:38Speaker 1: and I think because of the experience last week, I
- 14:40Speaker 1: think you will see a better version of Trevor Lawrence. Now.
- 14:43Speaker 1: He's gonna have to be on his a game because
- 14:45Speaker 1: ultimately in the playoffs it comes down to quarterback play
- 14:49Speaker 1: and pass rushers, and so he has to go even
- 14:52Speaker 1: stephen with Pat Mahomes, and that is a huge job
- 14:55Speaker 1: considering how Pat Mahomes always plays at the m v
- 14:57Speaker 1: P level. Yeah, Bucky, that playoff intensity that Jaguars have
- 15:00Speaker 1: been playing with really for a month now is something
- 15:02Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes has noticed abo out the Jags, and he
- 15:05Speaker 1: said it'll be critical for the Chiefs to be able
- 15:08Speaker 1: to match that intensity heading into Arrowhead on Saturday. Now,
- 15:12Speaker 1: that is something they have familiarity with Patrick Mahomes in
- 15:15Speaker 1: his five playoff appearances, now four times they've had to
- 15:19Speaker 1: buy so they're used to matching that intensity against a
- 15:22Speaker 1: team that has that playoff game under its belt. Familiarity
- 15:27Speaker 1: also something they have with the Jacksonville Jaguars. We've heard
- 15:30Speaker 1: about the Week ten matchup Patrick Mahomes that of course
- 15:33Speaker 1: they're going to study that game. But in looking at
- 15:35Speaker 1: the Jags, defensive coordinator Mike Caldwell, Mahomes noted that he
- 15:39Speaker 1: came from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and in the Buccaneers
- 15:43Speaker 1: season they played them one way in the regular season
- 15:46Speaker 1: against the Chiefs that was the Chiefs win, but then
- 15:48Speaker 1: in the Super Bowl they played them completely different and
- 15:51Speaker 1: obviously lost that game. So when they're looking at the
- 15:54Speaker 1: Jags and preparing for them, they will be prepared based
- 15:56Speaker 1: on what they saw on Week ten, but also preparing
- 15:59Speaker 1: for whatever else they might see in that matchup on
- 16:02Speaker 1: Saturday as well. Great point there about my called Willie
- 16:04Speaker 1: Todd Bowl disciple, former NFL linebacker. Six straight times in
- 16:09Speaker 1: the regular season, the Chiefs have beaten the Jaguars first
- 16:12Speaker 1: time they will meet in the postseason. Bucky Brooks is
- 16:15Speaker 1: going to be there. Oh, by the way, good to
- 16:17Speaker 1: see a bucking tack home are We continue by showing
- 16:19Speaker 1: you the schedule here on divisional weekend. That is the
- 16:21Speaker 1: first game Jaguars in Chiefs to open up the weekend
- 16:24Speaker 1: four thirty Eastern time on NBC, and then the Giants
- 16:28Speaker 1: and the Eagles and the night cap a f C
- 16:31Speaker 1: early NFC late on Sunday as well. All Right, we
- 16:38Speaker 1: finally get the matchup that we wanted to see week
- 16:40Speaker 1: sevent team. We finally get Josh Allen against Joe Burrow,
- 16:43Speaker 1: who the ladder of which was pretty good on the
- 16:46Speaker 1: road last year the postseason to add, oh and route
- 16:50Speaker 1: to an a f C Championship title. Joe and what
- 16:56Speaker 1: he's accomplished to this point as a as a quarterback
- 16:59Speaker 1: in this league and um, you know, extremely smart, accurate,
- 17:04Speaker 1: Um the list goes on as an elite quarterback for
- 17:07Speaker 1: for a good reason, alright, that Sean McDermott. This right
- 17:12Speaker 1: here is our Bucky Brooks. Bucky. A couple of weeks ago,
- 17:15Speaker 1: obviously we know what happened with Tamarrow hamblin this was
- 17:17Speaker 1: the game that everyone had circled on the calendar. We
- 17:19Speaker 1: didn't get that game for obvious reasons. But there were
- 17:22Speaker 1: eighteen plays from scrimmage in that game. It was a
- 17:25Speaker 1: seven three game when it was finally called off. Can
- 17:29Speaker 1: either team take anything from those eighteen plays? I mean
- 17:34Speaker 1: a little bit. I think if you're the Cincinnati being,
- 17:36Speaker 1: did you feel good about your opening script and how
- 17:38Speaker 1: you're able to move the ball right down the field.
- 17:41Speaker 1: But beyond that, No, it's a it's a completely different
- 17:44Speaker 1: game because injuries have changed. Uh, the lineup for the
- 17:48Speaker 1: Cincinnati Bengals. The way the Buffalo Bills have played up
- 17:51Speaker 1: late may change the approach. But you can look at
- 17:54Speaker 1: their personnel and those things. But look, it's a completely
- 17:56Speaker 1: new entity. I think for the Bengals, you have a
- 17:58Speaker 1: lot of confidence going into this one because you have
- 18:01Speaker 1: all of your weapons on the outside. Yes, the offensive
- 18:04Speaker 1: line is still in need of repair, but offensively, man,
- 18:08Speaker 1: they can throw a lot at the Buffalo Bills. All right,
- 18:10Speaker 1: let's get to that offensive line real quick. No left tackle,
- 18:12Speaker 1: no right tackle, no right guard possibly here as well.
- 18:15Speaker 1: I mean, that's got to be a concern for the Bengals,
- 18:18Speaker 1: isn't it it isn't concerned, but normally when they are
- 18:22Speaker 1: concerned about the offensive line, the Cincinnati Bengals have a
- 18:25Speaker 1: tendency to put more on Joe Burrow's plate. So you
- 18:28Speaker 1: might see more empty formations, more quick rhythm throws, more
- 18:32Speaker 1: things designed to get the ball out of the hands
- 18:35Speaker 1: of Joe Burrow and allow him to take ownership of
- 18:39Speaker 1: the past protection, meaning, Hey, I'm gonna get the ball
- 18:42Speaker 1: out quicker than you guys can get to me. And
- 18:44Speaker 1: so even though that appears to be an advantage for
- 18:46Speaker 1: the Bills, it might work in the Bengals favor because
- 18:49Speaker 1: more Joe Burrow means more plays for the playmakers. Uh Jamaar, Chase,
- 18:54Speaker 1: Te Higgins, Tyler Boy Joe mixing. That could be a
- 18:57Speaker 1: scary thing because if this game turns into attract met
- 19:01Speaker 1: the Bengals, you certainly like what Joe Burrow can do
- 19:03Speaker 1: in those types of situations. Yeah, Josh Allen, the pretty
- 19:05Speaker 1: good in the track meets at home in the postseason,
- 19:07Speaker 1: So yeah, sign me up for that one. Thank you,
- 19:09Speaker 1: Bucky Brooks. More on the colossal clash in the a
- 19:12Speaker 1: f C Divisional Route. Now time for some headlines. They're
- 19:16Speaker 1: brought to you by Verizon. Starting with what we told
- 19:19Speaker 1: you earlier about Sean Payton. He met with the Broncos
- 19:21Speaker 1: yesterday here in Los Angeles, and Ian Rappaport says he's
- 19:25Speaker 1: going to meet with the Panthers and owner David Tepper
- 19:28Speaker 1: later this week in New York. Meantime, the former Bronco
- 19:33Speaker 1: head coach Nathaniel Hackett had an interview today in Florence
- 19:36Speaker 1: Park to be the offensive coordinator of the Jets. Robert
- 19:41Speaker 1: Sali fired O C Mike Lafleur last week. Jets didn't
- 19:45Speaker 1: make the postseason, obviously, in order to the Arizona Cardinals.
- 19:47Speaker 1: They have a new GM Monty astin Fort Yesterday. With
- 19:50Speaker 1: his introductory press conference, he and owner Michael Bidwell says
- 19:53Speaker 1: that they will discuss wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins future in
- 19:58Speaker 1: the next couple of weeks. Measure that against how they
- 20:02Speaker 1: described Kyler Murray, that is, we are here to get
- 20:05Speaker 1: his recovery going. All right, Let's find out what the
- 20:15Speaker 1: PFF numbers tell us about what we saw wild card weekend.
- 20:17Speaker 1: Mike Renner is with us every week. This week on
- 20:20Speaker 1: a Wednesday, Mike, great to have you. He's there. PFF's
- 20:23Speaker 1: lead draft analysts. A lot of people Mike say that
- 20:26Speaker 1: the game Daniel Jones played on Sunday was the best
- 20:29Speaker 1: game of his career. What did you see? Yeah, it's
- 20:32Speaker 1: really hard to argue with that. It was a darn
- 20:35Speaker 1: near flawless performance in terms of timing, in terms of accuracy,
- 20:39Speaker 1: and it's really worth analyzing what Brian Dable has done
- 20:42Speaker 1: to unlock the former top ten pick in Daniel Jones,
- 20:45Speaker 1: because he's playing the best ball of his entire career,
- 20:47Speaker 1: because he's playing to his strength and scheming to his strength.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Daniel Jones never been a great downfield pastor never been
- 20:54Speaker 1: a guy who you want holding the ball in the
- 20:56Speaker 1: pocket because he has bumbling problems. So what they've done
- 20:59Speaker 1: is basically built the entire offense around a quick passing game.
- 21:02Speaker 1: There are no big plays in this offense. It is
- 21:04Speaker 1: a methodical, move the ball down the football field type
- 21:07Speaker 1: of offense. And what he said is hey, first second
- 21:09Speaker 1: reads out there, run. As you're seeing right there in
- 21:11Speaker 1: your screen right now, he has ran over twice as
- 21:13Speaker 1: many times as he did last season. He's utilizing that
- 21:17Speaker 1: athletic part of his game, and that's basically taking away
- 21:19Speaker 1: those sacks, taking away those negative players those fumbles and
- 21:22Speaker 1: turn them into positive plays. And that's why the Giant's
- 21:24Speaker 1: offense has been the top ten offense this season. And
- 21:26Speaker 1: Dak Prescott also used his legs a little bit Monday
- 21:29Speaker 1: night he had a rushing touchdown, but he also through
- 21:30Speaker 1: four he was a machine. I mean, Troy Aikman said
- 21:33Speaker 1: the best game he had seen Dak Prescott play the
- 21:35Speaker 1: defense all over Tom Brady, Mike. If they keep that up,
- 21:40Speaker 1: how formidable can the Dallas Cowboys be? Yeah, this is
- 21:44Speaker 1: the scariest team in the NFC at full strength. When
- 21:46Speaker 1: they're playing like that, if Dak Prescott is on, you're
- 21:49Speaker 1: going to have a handful trying to stop this Cowboys team,
- 21:52Speaker 1: trying to beat this Cowboys team because the defensive side
- 21:55Speaker 1: of the ball is so insanely talented. This front, for
- 21:58Speaker 1: this defensive line had more pressures than any other defense
- 22:02Speaker 1: in the NFL this season. They get home against every buddy.
- 22:05Speaker 1: They just have speed from everywhere. And the big thing
- 22:08Speaker 1: to me is after that Green Bay Packers game where
- 22:10Speaker 1: they had Michael Parsons playing as an off ball linebacker,
- 22:13Speaker 1: because there are still packages that they would send markup.
- 22:16Speaker 1: Mike Parson's out as an off ball linebacker against personnel
- 22:19Speaker 1: wise that after that, they just scrapped. They said, Michael Parsons,
- 22:21Speaker 1: you're a defensive lineman. You're attacking quarterbacks. Never since then
- 22:24Speaker 1: they have been in getting after every quarterback consistently. So yeah,
- 22:27Speaker 1: I think they are gonna have their hands full this weekend. Okay,
- 22:31Speaker 1: that's on the defensive side of actually both sides of
- 22:33Speaker 1: the ball. There, you hit both sides for the Cowboys.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Bucky Brooks was just on Mike. He said that what
- 22:37Speaker 1: the Niners have positionless football in the backfield and wide
- 22:41Speaker 1: with Deebo and Christian McCaffrey, makes it almost impossible to defend.
- 22:45Speaker 1: Is this the best skill group around a quarterback in
- 22:47Speaker 1: the NFL? I don't think it's close. It is. Yes,
- 22:52Speaker 1: they are far and away the best skill group because,
- 22:54Speaker 1: like you said, right there, position list football. Five guys
- 22:58Speaker 1: that at any given time can take a slant to
- 23:02Speaker 1: the house. They have that's kind of ability. They mean
- 23:05Speaker 1: had the best receiving corps. But if you shut down
- 23:07Speaker 1: Brandon now, you can Deebo, Samuel, all of a sudden
- 23:09Speaker 1: you have a top two tight end in George Katle.
- 23:11Speaker 1: You have the best receiving back and Christian Kaffrey had
- 23:13Speaker 1: more yards as a receiver than any other running back
- 23:15Speaker 1: in the NFL this season. And the staff that I
- 23:17Speaker 1: go back to that really is insane is they are
- 23:20Speaker 1: twenty eight in receptions the San Francisco for the Niners
- 23:23Speaker 1: are there this season, but first in broken tackles after
- 23:25Speaker 1: the catch. They have broken eleven more tackles than any
- 23:28Speaker 1: other receiving corps after the catch in the NFL. Despite
- 23:31Speaker 1: not being a past heavy offense, these guys can all
- 23:33Speaker 1: get it done to where yeah, brock Purty is playing great,
- 23:36Speaker 1: but it's because they have so many weapons in now, Okay,
- 23:38Speaker 1: let's go a little bit deeper on that. If we can, Mike,
- 23:41Speaker 1: we have a couple of extra seconds. There are a
- 23:42Speaker 1: lot of people that say, while it's Kyle Shanahan's play
- 23:44Speaker 1: calling and play design, it's all the weapons we just
- 23:47Speaker 1: discussed brock Purdies, they're just not mess it up. I
- 23:52Speaker 1: don't think that's given the kid enough credit here, because
- 23:55Speaker 1: you saw last week Pete Carroll called Frank Tarkin tent
- 23:58Speaker 1: with his ability to extend some place and make some place.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Brandon I you doesn't drop a touchdown there. They almost
- 24:03Speaker 1: get fifty last week on the City Hawks. Don't the
- 24:06Speaker 1: numbers show us that brock Purty is also playing really
- 24:09Speaker 1: really well? Yes, I think that's it's hard to you know, appropriate, uh,
- 24:16Speaker 1: you know, who's who's basically the one you know running
- 24:20Speaker 1: the show, like where to put all of these sort
- 24:22Speaker 1: of accolades for. But brock Purty has exceed all expectations.
- 24:26Speaker 1: He is doing it a lot of it himself in
- 24:28Speaker 1: terms of those plays outside of structure that Jimmy Garoppolo
- 24:31Speaker 1: didn't add. I do think brock Purtty's game erness is showing,
- 24:35Speaker 1: and it's in the lead offense game. Earnest love that one.
- 24:38Speaker 1: I'm going to use them one. Mike Renner lead draft Anilysts.
