- 0:03Speaker 1: Some of the content of Patriots Unfiltered may not be
- 0:05Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Listener discretion is advised.
- 0:10Speaker 3: The World's a village and podcast. Welcome to Patriot's Unfiltered.
- 0:20Speaker 4: So I put what I thought was as harmless a
- 0:22Speaker 4: tweet out issue you could possibly do by saying, not
- 0:26Speaker 4: much to evaluate. But I thought that looked like there
- 0:29Speaker 4: was a little, uh, you know, like Drake May in
- 0:31Speaker 4: the passing. The receivers didn't necessarily seem to be on
- 0:34Speaker 4: the same page a lot.
- 0:36Speaker 5: They can't use that term.
- 0:38Speaker 4: Literally, one person wasn't that what happened last year? We
- 0:41Speaker 4: threw four interceptions and everybody lost their minds. Maybe you
- 0:44Speaker 4: might want to add a little perspective to it.
- 0:46Speaker 6: I think that's fair as a user, as a reader,
- 0:49Speaker 6: I want to know what does that mean.
- 0:51Speaker 5: I'm not mad at you about it. I'm just trying
- 0:53Speaker 5: to help you with the terminology because you learn, like
- 0:57Speaker 5: you learn the trigger words, you know.
- 0:58Speaker 4: And you tweet babies say it, two year olds that
- 1:04Speaker 4: can't hear anything that might not sound like they're in
- 1:07Speaker 4: super blight.
- 1:08Speaker 3: I want to know more.
- 1:09Speaker 5: But like there's like Drake May is now a brand
- 1:12Speaker 5: name quarterback in the league.
- 1:13Speaker 3: He's a superstar. He's got his own nickname.
- 1:16Speaker 5: Yeah, you know he's gonna.
- 1:19Speaker 6: It's not the fact, it's Brake may Mikale writes in Hello,
- 1:23Speaker 6: my name is Michael, longtime listener. It sounds like Paul
- 1:26Speaker 6: is pessimistic about the offense this early in.
- 1:28Speaker 4: The off season.
- 1:30Speaker 5: First, okay, practice last year through four picks.
- 1:33Speaker 4: As I was reminded on and then he was the
- 1:35Speaker 4: runner up. Thanks for daslighting me up.
- 1:37Speaker 2: So I just yeah, I think this is the first
- 1:40Speaker 2: Maybe you should have a little perspective.
- 1:42Speaker 6: This is Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota's official website for
- 1:46Speaker 6: deals by a Toyota dot Com.
- 1:50Speaker 3: All right, here we are.
- 1:53Speaker 6: This is Patriots Unfiltered at a new time, well a
- 1:56Speaker 6: time for today, because man, we we had a lot.
- 2:00Speaker 3: To do today. We have a lot to talk about
- 2:02Speaker 3: right now.
- 2:04Speaker 6: Yesterday was a big day for the New England Patriots
- 2:08Speaker 6: and for you the fan. Man, we saw this guy
- 2:14Speaker 6: live and up close today. He's the real deal. I'm
- 2:17Speaker 6: talking about AJ Brown. He got traded to the Patriots yesterday.
- 2:22Speaker 6: That's going to dominate this talk. But we're also going
- 2:24Speaker 6: to talk about what we saw on the field today.
- 2:26Speaker 6: Because Mike and Paul and Evan were just at practice also,
- 2:31Speaker 6: they were just that availability where they got to hear
- 2:34Speaker 6: from AJ Brown. So fellas, let's go and here's Evan. Hi, Evan,
- 2:41Speaker 6: what time is this the two thirty s? How was
- 2:44Speaker 6: that AJ Brown's press conc?
- 2:45Speaker 3: Okay, so were they?
- 2:46Speaker 6: But anyway, anyway, so we need to talk. We need
- 2:51Speaker 6: to talk about it. Do we work from backwards from
- 2:55Speaker 6: the press conference on up? Or do we start with yesterday.
- 2:57Speaker 2: And we just go off the top. I mean, I
- 2:59Speaker 2: just I'm excited. I think this is a player I
- 3:01Speaker 2: love forever. I mean, we talk about get trying to
- 3:03Speaker 2: get the number one wide receiver. It's a recurring theme
- 3:06Speaker 2: for as long as I've been here. Last year you
- 3:08Speaker 2: had Digs coming off a knee injury, though there was
- 3:10Speaker 2: a little bit of we're not quite sure. With AJ Brown,
- 3:13Speaker 2: I just think this is the kind of receiver I love, physical,
- 3:17Speaker 2: dominating player, you know. Seeing him out there today with
- 3:19Speaker 2: with Romeo Dobbs, just the size, you know, and then
- 3:22Speaker 2: you got Mac Hollins back out there today too. I
- 3:25Speaker 2: think it's going to change the dynamic of the Patriots
- 3:27Speaker 2: offense a little bit more physicality, some more side than
- 3:29Speaker 2: these guys. But I'm just super excited for this guy.
- 3:31Speaker 2: We came from his press conference just so cool. You
- 3:34Speaker 2: can tell all the confidence in the world, and you know,
- 3:36Speaker 2: it's it's a small bonus that he was a Patriots
- 3:38Speaker 2: fan growing up. And you know, I like that aspect.
- 3:40Speaker 6: I love that aspect. I mean, he you know, what
- 3:43Speaker 6: did he say today? He said, you know, this may
- 3:46Speaker 6: not quite be heaven, but it's close to it.
- 3:48Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 3:49Speaker 2: I love that he seems thrilled to be here.
- 3:52Speaker 3: Don't you want people who want to be here?
- 3:53Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 3:54Speaker 2: Yeah, and he does. And it's what he say, like
- 3:56Speaker 2: it take a little while, but here we are. And
- 3:59Speaker 2: you know, just to see him get right out on
- 4:01Speaker 2: the field today. Didn't do too much, a little bit,
- 4:02Speaker 2: but I just think it's super exciting that this team is.
- 4:05Speaker 3: You know, it's all we talked about all off season.
- 4:07Speaker 2: We talked about the Corey Dillon thing last year, you know, like, hey,
- 4:10Speaker 2: the O three Pats, they won the Super Bowl. They
- 4:12Speaker 2: didn't stay pat Well, this team lost the Super Bowl.
- 4:14Speaker 2: They're not staying.
- 4:15Speaker 3: Pad at all.
- 4:15Speaker 2: They're continuing to add at the tackle position, at the
- 4:18Speaker 2: receiver position. They're putting the pieces around Drake May while
- 4:21Speaker 2: he is on a rookie contract and given him the
- 4:23Speaker 2: weapons that he's going to need in this second year
- 4:25Speaker 2: in the system to I think like this league, I would.
- 4:26Speaker 4: Agree with Mike. That's my big takeaway. I've been talking
- 4:28Speaker 4: about her for a few weeks now. You will not
- 4:31Speaker 4: be able to say three or four years from now
- 4:33Speaker 4: that the Patriots led Drake May down the way that
- 4:36Speaker 4: some people have let mac Jones off the hook because
- 4:39Speaker 4: the Patriots didn't do a whole lot to help Mac Jones.
- 4:42Speaker 4: They've done plenty to help Drake May. This is the
- 4:44Speaker 4: latest thing I think. I made a comment last week
- 4:50Speaker 4: and I said, you know, even if something happens in
- 4:53Speaker 4: this shocking development and they don't end up with AJ Brown,
- 4:56Speaker 4: I still think they'll be okay provided that Booty, you know,
- 4:59Speaker 4: came back in the fold. And I think Evan correct
- 5:02Speaker 4: and he's like, yeah, but they really do need AJ Brown.
- 5:05Speaker 4: And I thought about it a little bit more and
- 5:07Speaker 4: I think Evan's right, you know, and it's easier to
- 5:11Speaker 4: say it now that it's the transaction is done. But
- 5:13Speaker 4: I do think that they kind of painted themselves in
- 5:15Speaker 4: a corner where they really needed this player, and I'm
- 5:19Speaker 4: glad it all worked out just the way everybody said,
- 5:22Speaker 4: because I think they need him for the offense. I
- 5:24Speaker 4: think that they have the number one in the corner
- 5:27Speaker 4: if they didn't get aj Brown.
- 5:28Speaker 3: Oh, because they put all their eggs in that basket.
- 5:31Speaker 4: Yeah, Okay, you don't have to fight me.
- 5:33Speaker 3: I just want to understand what a good thing. I'm
- 5:36Speaker 3: not fighting.
- 5:36Speaker 4: They had a number one receiver last year who did
- 5:39Speaker 4: unbelievable things for them and lifted their offense to a
- 5:41Speaker 4: higher level. They lost him. They needed to replace that, okay,
- 5:45Speaker 4: with a different kind of player, and if they hadn't
- 5:48Speaker 4: done it, I think they would have been lacking that element.
- 5:50Speaker 3: I think we all agree.
- 5:52Speaker 5: Yeah, I just think it's really exciting that they're going
- 5:54Speaker 5: for it. You know, we could haggle over whether or
- 5:57Speaker 5: not losing the first round pick in twenty twenty eight
- 6:00Speaker 5: big deal or not, but they clearly saw a team
- 6:02Speaker 5: that needed some you know, fine tuning around the edges.
- 6:06Speaker 5: But was is close as close to winning a championship.
- 6:09Speaker 5: And I will never fault them or any team for
- 6:13Speaker 5: especially this window with Drake May on a rookie contract
- 6:17Speaker 5: and affordable for pushing the chips in the middle and saying,
- 6:20Speaker 5: you know, we're going for it, like we're we're going
- 6:22Speaker 5: for a super Bowl. That's exciting. That aggressiveness that the
- 6:26Speaker 5: front office ownership putting the money up, you know, at
- 6:29Speaker 5: the front office, giving up big time draft capital to
- 6:32Speaker 5: go and get players. That's an aggressiveness that I haven't
- 6:36Speaker 5: necessarily seen them ever have, And I think that that
- 6:39Speaker 5: might be a mindset thing. I don't know if Bill
- 6:41Speaker 5: Belichick necessarily thought the same way from a team building
- 6:44Speaker 5: perspective with all these different moves that this front office
- 6:48Speaker 5: in this regime does, but just from a you know,
- 6:51Speaker 5: we talked about it, like they spent a lot of
- 6:53Speaker 5: money last offseason. We weren't sure if they were going
- 6:55Speaker 5: to spend a lot of money this offseason after they
- 6:58Speaker 5: spent a lot in Rabel's first offseason. This offseason, they've
- 7:02Speaker 5: signed Romeo Dobbs. Yep, they just traded for AJ Brown.
- 7:05Speaker 5: There's a potential Gonzo extension coming. Like there's a lot
- 7:08Speaker 5: of different things that they're doing to really go all
- 7:11Speaker 5: in on this roster and take a crack at it.
- 7:14Speaker 5: And that that's great. Like if you're a fan, that's
- 7:16Speaker 5: all you can ask for from a team, right.
- 7:18Speaker 6: I mean, somebody said it to me today at the
- 7:20Speaker 6: end of the day, like it is sports, but it's
- 7:22Speaker 6: also entertainment, and I think it's every team's responsibility to
- 7:28Speaker 6: kind of be interesting, right, and be relevant and be
- 7:31Speaker 6: in the mix, and do what you have to do
- 7:34Speaker 6: for your team to be in the mix. Now, some
- 7:36Speaker 6: teams have more ability to do that, but whatever your
- 7:40Speaker 6: ability is, you should do it.
- 7:42Speaker 3: You shouldn't hold back.
- 7:43Speaker 6: And I know, you know, some of the haters they
- 7:47Speaker 6: think they over extended themselves or overpaid for the player maybe,
- 7:51Speaker 6: but who cares?
- 7:52Speaker 3: Who cares?
- 7:53Speaker 6: I mean, look how excited everybody is, you know, and
- 7:59Speaker 6: it doesn't matter what other teams fans think and make
- 8:02Speaker 6: fun of you. It's like Patriots fans right now are
- 8:05Speaker 6: justifiably excited because they've got a number one wide receiver for.
- 8:10Speaker 3: Their young quarterback in for their offense.
- 8:12Speaker 5: It's just the aggressiveness, like the aggressiveness of not staying complacent,
- 8:17Speaker 5: like they easily could have just they went fourteen and
- 8:19Speaker 5: three last year and made the Super Bowl. They could
- 8:21Speaker 5: have just ran that roster back and said we'll do
- 8:24Speaker 5: it again. But they didn't. They've they've gotten better, they've
- 8:27Speaker 5: made changes that were probably difficult moves to make internally,
- 8:31Speaker 5: like moving on from Stefan Diggs after the great season
- 8:34Speaker 5: that he had. But now instead of just defon Diggs,
- 8:37Speaker 5: you have Aj Brown and you have Romeo Dobbs, you know,
- 8:40Speaker 5: And I think that's an upgrade there, and they knew
- 8:42Speaker 5: they kind of needed to, especially after the playoff run.
- 8:44Speaker 5: And you mentioned Paul the different type of player that
- 8:47Speaker 5: he is. That's what excites me the most just from
- 8:49Speaker 5: an on field perspective, is that this is a true
- 8:52Speaker 5: outside wide receiver. Diggs is great, but Diggs it was
- 8:56Speaker 5: an inside guy, basically a slot receiver by the time
- 8:59Speaker 5: the season was over, a player that didn't play a
- 9:02Speaker 5: ton either. It was kind of like playing a lot
- 9:04Speaker 5: in passing situations and things like that. AJ Brown is
- 9:08Speaker 5: a guy that is a base X receiver, Like this
- 9:11Speaker 5: is a guy that you can come out in any formation,
- 9:13Speaker 5: any look, and he can play the X and play
- 9:15Speaker 5: on the outside for you know, seventy five eighty, you know,
- 9:19Speaker 5: snaps a game and just the way that you know,
- 9:22Speaker 5: we can get into it. But the way that that
- 9:24Speaker 5: works from an x's and o's standpoint, the things that
- 9:27Speaker 5: that could open up, the things that opened up in
- 9:28Speaker 5: Philadelphia and in Tennessee for their offenses, that to me
- 9:32Speaker 5: is extremely exciting. And you still have the chain moving
- 9:36Speaker 5: element hopefully with a guy like Romeo Dobs, so you
- 9:38Speaker 5: didn't totally lose that moving on from Diggs.
- 9:41Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 9:41Speaker 2: To me, it's just I mean watching a lot of
- 9:43Speaker 2: aj Brown over the last twenty four hours or so
- 9:45Speaker 2: just to catch up on what kind of player is,
- 9:47Speaker 2: but just so strong and physical, and I think that's
- 9:50Speaker 2: what I mean. Evan's totally right. How is Josh McDaniel's
- 9:52Speaker 2: going to get to play with this piece? I mean
- 9:54Speaker 2: imagine this is like in O seven in the Spring
- 9:56Speaker 2: when they're like, all right, Josh, we got Welker, we
- 9:58Speaker 2: got you know, we brought in rand Moss too. What
- 10:01Speaker 2: they came out of the gate with that offense and
- 10:03Speaker 2: they set the world on fire. I think he can
- 10:04Speaker 2: do similar things with Brown. I just love his play
- 10:08Speaker 2: style though, and how hearty is to tackle.
- 10:10Speaker 3: You have to bring the guy to the ground.
- 10:12Speaker 2: I mean, he is not going to go down with
- 10:14Speaker 2: some little arm tackle, strong hands, you know, and it's
- 10:17Speaker 2: just the run after the catch. I don't know if
- 10:19Speaker 2: he can still pull away. I mean watching some of
- 10:20Speaker 2: this stuff from his first couple of years in the
- 10:22Speaker 2: league where he's going to catch a slant and he's
- 10:24Speaker 2: just gonna split the defense. And I don't know if
- 10:25Speaker 2: he still has that same pull away speed, but I
- 10:28Speaker 2: don't know if it really matters with just the physical
- 10:30Speaker 2: presence that he's going to bring the size though, you know,
- 10:33Speaker 2: and me and Paul were talking about it like this
- 10:34Speaker 2: is Drake seems to like these big guys. I could
- 10:38Speaker 2: really see this being we can move Dobbs and him,
- 10:41Speaker 2: we can play with him. And now what you get
- 10:42Speaker 2: from Kyle Williams pop Douglass, maybe those guys get lost
- 10:46Speaker 2: in the shuffle a little bit more. You said a
- 10:47Speaker 2: fred a couple of years ago, they're easy to defend,
- 10:50Speaker 2: and this is coming in on paper, it's not easy
- 10:53Speaker 2: to defend.
- 10:53Speaker 3: Right now.
- 10:53Speaker 2: You got to figure it out. You got to pick
- 10:55Speaker 2: your poison with these guys. And I'm excited to see
- 10:57Speaker 2: how it evolves, because right now it's all kind of
- 10:59Speaker 2: in the what it will look like. Now you've got
- 11:02Speaker 2: some time to really start to put it on the place.
- 11:04Speaker 2: But we'll hope. Uh, the news wasn't all good. We
- 11:07Speaker 2: should mention that Justin Hill was put on the uh
- 11:11Speaker 2: uh jewels Julian Hill, Yeah, uh would ever be just
- 11:15Speaker 2: good news.
- 11:17Speaker 3: Well, you got to get it out of the way.
- 11:19Speaker 6: He's been put on I R And it's not the
- 11:20Speaker 6: kind of I are you're coming back from apparently the.
- 11:23Speaker 2: Injury and practice and yeah, one of those done for
- 11:25Speaker 2: the year, which Able called it devastating awful, Like just
- 11:30Speaker 2: one of those they probably all the whole teams around
- 11:32Speaker 2: him on the field type of thing. It's like a
- 11:34Speaker 2: sneaky It's like a sneaky one that bothers me because
- 11:36Speaker 2: they felt like not a dynamic receiving threadnying like that,
- 11:39Speaker 2: but just an insurance piece if rared on's not really
- 11:42Speaker 2: ready to go. Hunter Henry's had some issues in the
- 11:44Speaker 2: past with injuries, especially down the stretch last year. You know,
- 11:47Speaker 2: it just gave you a level of veteran insurance that
- 11:50Speaker 2: you know, something happens to Hunter Henry, we need to
- 11:52Speaker 2: manage him a little bit. We've got a reliable veteran
- 11:54Speaker 2: that we can kind of stick in there now. I
- 11:55Speaker 2: think it opens the door up a little bit for somebody.
- 11:58Speaker 4: Is it rare?
- 11:58Speaker 3: And we saw him make a catch today of the
- 12:00Speaker 3: first time we noticed him.
- 12:01Speaker 2: But I'd love to have that player that Julian Hill was,
- 12:04Speaker 2: which is just like, w We's got a blocker in there.
- 12:06Speaker 2: He's gonna you know, he's not gonna break anything.
- 12:08Speaker 6: If if he does, that open the door for you know,
- 12:10Speaker 6: I know they've signed Gilliam as a fullback, but keeping
- 12:13Speaker 6: two fullbacks and.
- 12:14Speaker 2: I mean Jack Westover played a little h I mean, yeah,
- 12:17Speaker 2: maybe get creative.
- 12:18Speaker 5: You know, Tanner Arkin and c. J. Dupree are both
- 12:20Speaker 5: bigger blocking tight ends, both udfas the last two years.
- 12:24Speaker 5: Arkin had really good blocking tape at Illinois. Like maybe
- 12:27Speaker 5: it's as simple as that. I was looking forward to
- 12:29Speaker 5: Julian Hill as a point of attack blocker. I thought
- 12:31Speaker 5: that he could make a difference. And you know, we
- 12:33Speaker 5: start to get into the web of AJ Brown now
- 12:36Speaker 5: on the outside and what are they gonna do with
- 12:38Speaker 5: the safeties? And can you single AJ Brown on the
- 12:41Speaker 5: outside with how well Drake May throws deep and they're
- 12:43Speaker 5: gonna put the safety over the top. Well, now we're
- 12:46Speaker 5: lightening the box. If we're lightening the box, what are
- 12:48Speaker 5: the Patriots gonna do? They're gonna turn around and hand
- 12:49Speaker 5: the ball off Urmandre Stevenson. If that was gonna be
- 12:52Speaker 5: sort of their their chess match there, like Red Jie Gilliam,
- 12:56Speaker 5: Julian Hill, like those guys as blockers were gonna be
- 12:59Speaker 5: a big part of it. Now Gilliam can still be
- 13:01Speaker 5: a big part of it, luckily. But I like what
- 13:03Speaker 5: Mike said too about you know, you don't want to
- 13:05Speaker 5: put Eli Reard in a position where he's forced to
- 13:08Speaker 5: play more than he's ready for as a rookie.
- 13:10Speaker 4: And I think Young tight ends.
- 13:11Speaker 5: It takes time, it takes development, so they had that
- 13:14Speaker 5: layer of depth that they don't necessarily have. So I
- 13:17Speaker 5: wouldn't be shocked if they look on the free agent
- 13:19Speaker 5: market for somebody available to bring into camp, you know,
- 13:23Speaker 5: in August that maybe has some experience at that spot.
- 13:26Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 13:26Speaker 3: J Smith's available.
- 13:28Speaker 5: Yeah, old friend Faraoh Brown is a free agent, you know,
- 13:34Speaker 5: someone like that that's just just has played some NFL
- 13:38Speaker 5: football before. Yeah.
- 13:40Speaker 6: Some house cleaning notes that Vrabel told the media today.
- 13:45Speaker 6: Mini camp was supposed to be two weeks from now.
- 13:49Speaker 6: They moved it up mostly because of World Cup. Let's
- 13:52Speaker 6: face it, it's going to be next week. So June
- 13:55Speaker 6: ninth through eleventh will be Mini camp. So those are
- 13:58Speaker 6: days that we have access to every practice. It's it
- 14:02Speaker 6: is like training camp. Yeah, so that's gonna be big
- 14:05Speaker 6: next week to you know, see the guys out there
- 14:08Speaker 6: before they go off for the summer. So that'll be
- 14:11Speaker 6: the last look for the veterans, in particular, the rookies
- 14:14Speaker 6: will be sticking around a little bit for extra work
- 14:17Speaker 6: the week after, but in terms of the team, that's
- 14:20Speaker 6: it next week and then they're gone.
- 14:22Speaker 2: Yeah, and then we'll probably be pu after those practices
- 14:25Speaker 2: like we're doing today.
- 14:25Speaker 6: Yeah, we'll have we'll announce the schedule for next week.
- 14:28Speaker 6: It's a little bit wonky because of that, but we'll
- 14:31Speaker 6: get that out there. So back to AJ Brown, I mean,
- 14:36Speaker 6: it's exciting. We should mention blockbuster trade. Also, yesterday was
- 14:41Speaker 6: like in my Twitter timeline, I didn't even know Miles
- 14:45Speaker 6: Garrett got traded.
- 14:46Speaker 3: I honestly didn't, but he did. And that's a huge one.
- 14:50Speaker 3: Rams giving up a first, second, third and a Pro
- 14:53Speaker 3: Bowl edge guy. You can say that they overpaid, but
- 14:57Speaker 3: they don't care. They don't care. I think it's a
- 15:00Speaker 3: good deal for Cleveland and for the Rams.
- 15:03Speaker 6: I think I don't know if having the Super Bowl
- 15:05Speaker 6: in l A, you know, gave them a little bit
- 15:08Speaker 6: more sense.
- 15:09Speaker 3: Of agency.
- 15:10Speaker 6: Wouldn't it be great if we could play in Super
- 15:12Speaker 6: Bowl in our own stadium?
- 15:13Speaker 4: But they're all in again, Like how weird is that?
- 15:17Speaker 4: Like they're the odds on favorite and they're already the
- 15:20Speaker 4: only team that ever did that. Well they were the
- 15:22Speaker 4: first team, right.
- 15:23Speaker 5: Well, no, the Bucks and Bucks.
- 15:24Speaker 4: Did it, but it was a COVID year second second
- 15:28Speaker 4: team to do it. Yeah, that ruins that.
- 15:30Speaker 5: But the age of the quarterback has to be there.
- 15:34Speaker 4: Smaller window, and I would I wonder about McVeigh.
- 15:36Speaker 5: You know, McVeigh flirted with retiring before I'm want to
- 15:40Speaker 5: say after they won the Super Bowl, somewhere around there.
- 15:43Speaker 4: I don't have all the details. He had some really
- 15:46Speaker 4: interesting quotes about how he's reinvigered. He talked, Yeah, he
- 15:50Speaker 4: talked himself out of that. His wife basically had to
- 15:52Speaker 4: talk with him. He smacked him around more or less.
- 15:55Speaker 4: I don't think that yes, yes, you know, I don't
- 15:59Speaker 4: think that that necessarily part of this. But I do
- 16:01Speaker 4: think the window is relevant. You got a thirty eight
- 16:04Speaker 4: year old quarterback get drafted a quarterback in the first
- 16:06Speaker 4: round to be you know, the heir apparent that they're
- 16:10Speaker 4: looking at winning right now than at one of the
- 16:12Speaker 4: next two years, you know, and they're already very good.
- 16:15Speaker 4: I mean they were a drive away from from going
- 16:18Speaker 4: to the super Bowl last year. Yeah, So I like
- 16:22Speaker 4: that trade for Cleveland. I think it's a situation where
- 16:25Speaker 4: you got a lot for a guy that wasn't going
- 16:27Speaker 4: to be a part of your ultimate rebuild. He's been
- 16:30Speaker 4: there a while, you tried, you know, you recognize that
- 16:33Speaker 4: you had a great player, a generational player, and you
- 16:37Speaker 4: tried to make it work with him, and you just
- 16:40Speaker 4: weren't any good with him. So you might as well
- 16:42Speaker 4: get many things as you can't help you.
- 16:44Speaker 6: I think it's a perfect example of every player has
- 16:46Speaker 6: a price. Yeah, you know, you've got the best defensive
- 16:49Speaker 6: player in the league. Oh, we'll never trade him, right,
- 16:52Speaker 6: But you pick up the phone because you never know
- 16:55Speaker 6: what's on the other end, And in this case, they
- 16:57Speaker 6: rams made him an offer they couldn't refuse.
- 16:59Speaker 5: That's kind of like what the Browns are doing. I
- 17:01Speaker 5: kind of like what the Jets are doing too. And
- 17:02Speaker 5: they're in a similar spot where I don't really believe
- 17:05Speaker 5: in the coach yet. I don't really they don't have
- 17:06Speaker 5: a quarterback, they don't have an answer there. But the
- 17:09Speaker 5: moves that they're making around are all pretty good. I mean,
- 17:12Speaker 5: I think the Browns are doing the right thing, like
- 17:14Speaker 5: they Paul's right, like Miles Garrett was not going to
- 17:17Speaker 5: be on a winning Browns team. Like his window and
- 17:20Speaker 5: his uh, you know, ability to maximize his career is
- 17:23Speaker 5: just not in the same place that the Ram or
- 17:24Speaker 5: that the Browns are right now. And they got a
- 17:26Speaker 5: bolo to picks Jared Versus a really good player and
- 17:29Speaker 5: he's young. I mean, you know, I know he has.
- 17:31Speaker 3: No Miles Garrett, but he's what in his third year, probably.
- 17:36Speaker 5: Fifteen.
- 17:37Speaker 2: It's like when I look at like, when I think
- 17:38Speaker 2: about we talk about these kind of moves, I'm like,
- 17:39Speaker 2: that's not a move I would probably make.
- 17:41Speaker 3: But and we abate those things.
- 17:42Speaker 2: I would say, I got this kid who's in his
- 17:43Speaker 2: third year. Yes, Miles scirit is very good.
- 17:46Speaker 4: But I would do it. You know what I mean,
- 17:48Speaker 4: I would have done it. I would have done it.
- 17:50Speaker 6: I think it's if the Rams were looking to trade
- 17:53Speaker 6: Jared Verse, wouldn't they be looking for a first round
- 17:56Speaker 6: pick at least?
- 17:57Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, so he's a good player plus the.
- 18:00Speaker 3: First plus the second plus the third.
- 18:02Speaker 4: I mean, you know, it's just but they got the
- 18:03Speaker 4: defensive player of the year's crime coming off the record
- 18:07Speaker 4: set in season. It's not like they got them for
- 18:08Speaker 4: nothing like I would have done it. I think it's
- 18:11Speaker 4: a terrific trade for both teams. I like it a
- 18:13Speaker 4: little more for Cleveland, but I think it's a really
- 18:15Speaker 4: good trade.
- 18:15Speaker 2: I mean, what do you think came first, the first
- 18:17Speaker 2: rounder or Verse or was that always a package? It
- 18:20Speaker 2: sounded like Verse was the deal breaker, the last thing yet.
- 18:25Speaker 5: To Cleveland side. It sounds like they said Jared Verse
- 18:29Speaker 5: has to be in the trade.
- 18:30Speaker 6: With kudos to both teams for keeping this under wraps.
- 18:32Speaker 6: I'm sure this just didn't happen yesterday. They must have
- 18:35Speaker 6: been working on this for a while. And the first
- 18:37Speaker 6: thing I thought of is, oh, that's why the Rams
- 18:39Speaker 6: were out of the aj Brown market because they were
- 18:42Speaker 6: working on this.
- 18:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:43Speaker 2: I just there's always a balance, and when we talk
- 18:45Speaker 2: about it with with the Brown deal as well, you know,
- 18:47Speaker 2: what are you willing to give up and what's worth it?
- 18:50Speaker 2: And you know, in my mind, the one thing that
- 18:52Speaker 2: I probably would be very careful of would just be
- 18:55Speaker 2: a young player on his rookie deal who already looks
- 18:57Speaker 2: like a superstar, you know, I just I'd be very
- 19:00Speaker 2: detective of that, and you know, I think the deal
- 19:02Speaker 2: works for everybody. But at the same time, I just
- 19:05Speaker 2: those are the kind of things you got kind weigh it,
- 19:07Speaker 2: you know, I.
- 19:07Speaker 5: Like it less if if Stafford wasn't forty years old,
- 19:11Speaker 5: you know, like if they had a longer runway with Stafford,
- 19:14Speaker 5: then I would be like, I don't love it. But
- 19:17Speaker 5: because he's you know, if he wins another super Bowl,
- 19:20Speaker 5: like he might just retire.
- 19:21Speaker 4: If Jared Verse turns out to be that kind of
- 19:23Speaker 4: a player, then I don't like it as much. For
- 19:25Speaker 4: the Rams. I think Jared Versus is a good player.
- 19:27Speaker 4: I don't think he's he's a Miles Garrett potential like
- 19:30Speaker 4: down the road. I think he's a good player. I
- 19:32Speaker 4: think they're going to have a hard time. I think
- 19:34Speaker 4: he's probably he's going to be up next year like that.
- 19:36Speaker 4: He's going to be in that third year. The thing
- 19:38Speaker 4: we're talking about with Gonzo right now, so he'll be
- 19:41Speaker 4: after his third year, he's going to want to cash in.
- 19:43Speaker 4: And I think that's going to be a tough, a
- 19:45Speaker 4: tough call, like what because he's gonna want a lie.
- 19:48Speaker 4: But we don't need to turn this into.
- 19:50Speaker 6: Enough of Miles Garrett and all that, but I just
- 19:53Speaker 6: wanted to you know, that was news yesterday too.
- 19:56Speaker 3: So back to aj Brown.
- 19:58Speaker 6: You know, I did you feel like, you know, you
- 20:01Speaker 6: guys were out there, I was out there for a
- 20:02Speaker 6: little bit.
- 20:03Speaker 3: Did you feel you know that you.
- 20:05Speaker 6: Know if you just look at the wide receiver, well
- 20:08Speaker 6: you feel extra kicking their stats?
- 20:10Speaker 2: Well you know, but not because he was doing anything.
- 20:12Speaker 2: It's just his presence of.
- 20:13Speaker 6: Like about the other guys that they affected their you know, attitude.
- 20:19Speaker 3: Oh I don't.
- 20:20Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know. I mean, everybody seems very
- 20:22Speaker 2: excited about it. I wouldn't say watching on the field
- 20:24Speaker 2: that it jumped off the field that everyone's like trying
- 20:26Speaker 2: to be a little bit tighter on their p's and q's.
- 20:29Speaker 2: But I just it's his presence, and you know, it's
- 20:31Speaker 2: It's happened a few times in my time here watching
- 20:33Speaker 2: these O t A and and training camp practices where
- 20:36Speaker 2: all of a sudden there's a dude on the field
- 20:38Speaker 2: and you're like, all right, you know it happened like Gonzales,
- 20:41Speaker 2: Like you just like, that's that's a dude. Oh yeah,
- 20:43Speaker 2: he's he's not even doing anything out there.
- 20:45Speaker 5: He's just got to sauntering around.
- 20:47Speaker 4: You know, He's great. I mean, he has a presence,
- 20:50Speaker 4: he's he's you know, like I like to say he
- 20:52Speaker 4: fills out the uniform. Does aj Brown fills out the uniform?
- 20:54Speaker 5: I just like him going through the positional drills and
- 20:57Speaker 5: he just has these like short bursts of explosiveness that
- 21:00Speaker 5: he can just kind of like conjure up at it
- 21:02Speaker 5: nowhere and I'm like, there's the twitch, Like there's that
- 21:05Speaker 5: suddenness to his movements that you can see. But he
- 21:07Speaker 5: didn't do very much today today, And honestly, I thought
- 21:10Speaker 5: some of the time he like looked like he was
- 21:12Speaker 5: kind of lost, as you would expect, like.
- 21:14Speaker 3: He just got off the play.
- 21:15Speaker 5: Yeah, he literally went through one drill.
- 21:17Speaker 4: To admit afterwards, he was kind of daydreaming.
- 21:20Speaker 3: He literally here at five thirty in the morning.
- 21:22Speaker 5: Oh yeah, No, I'm not holding it against him whatsoever.
- 21:24Speaker 5: He did. He finished a drill, He went through the drill.
- 21:27Speaker 5: He looked at Todd downing and it was kind of like,
- 21:29Speaker 5: did I do it right? You know, like he was
- 21:30Speaker 5: like very much getting his feet wet. So hopefully by
- 21:34Speaker 5: next week maybe we can see him doing.
- 21:35Speaker 3: What did he have to say in his press conference
- 21:37Speaker 3: that was notable?
- 21:39Speaker 2: Oh, that he's excited. I mean, obviously he's excited to
- 21:41Speaker 2: come here and be part of this team. And he
- 21:43Speaker 2: said he wanted to play with Tom, which was, you know,
- 21:45Speaker 2: the big draw for him, his older brother. I think
- 21:47Speaker 2: it was his cousin. Sorry, his cousin was the Patriots
- 21:49Speaker 2: fan that he was kind of emulating. But you know,
- 21:52Speaker 2: I mean he said everything right. You can tell the
- 21:54Speaker 2: guy is a superstar. He's not unfamiliar with being in
- 21:57Speaker 2: front of the camera and not stepping in it, you know.
- 22:00Speaker 2: So he seemed to be well rehearsed and Ali, I mean,
- 22:03Speaker 2: the way he ended it was like, you know, do
- 22:04Speaker 2: you what do you feel like? Where do you feel
- 22:06Speaker 2: like you're at He's like, just wait and see. Kind
- 22:08Speaker 2: of the perfect way to end the press conference.
- 22:10Speaker 3: So what about Josh McDaniels, because you spoke to him
- 22:12Speaker 3: before practice.
- 22:13Speaker 4: Yeah, so I thought, my my big takeaway from Josh,
- 22:17Speaker 4: you know, and he's obviously going to downplay these kinds
- 22:20Speaker 4: of things, you know, but he's excited to work with
- 22:23Speaker 4: a guy that with that talent and and whatnot. But
- 22:27Speaker 4: he was asked to sort of compare him, and his
- 22:30Speaker 4: comp was really who do you think he compared him
- 22:32Speaker 4: to a Patriot for like a guy that he coached,
- 22:35Speaker 4: David Gibbons, Gronk. Gronk, right, that was a really interesting
- 22:39Speaker 4: cop That was a really interesting comp comparing him to
- 22:44Speaker 4: you know, a big physical tight end as opposed to
- 22:47Speaker 4: you know, Randy Moss.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Right now, there's no real comp Do you think he
- 22:51Speaker 2: uses him like that?
- 22:52Speaker 5: Maybe a little bit, you know, I think that the
- 22:55Speaker 5: one thing about Philly's offense that held him back, I
- 22:58Speaker 5: think is the lack of routes that they ran over
- 23:00Speaker 5: the middle of the field because combination of things like
- 23:03Speaker 5: Philly doesn't play a lot under center. Jalen Hurts is
- 23:06Speaker 5: in the big middle of the field quarterback that sort
- 23:08Speaker 5: of thing. And in Tennessee, you know, there's a lot
- 23:11Speaker 5: of slants and crossing routes like off of play actions
- 23:14Speaker 5: and stuff like that where they're just hitting him on
- 23:16Speaker 5: runways and letting him just catch and run on the move,
- 23:19Speaker 5: and there weren't as many of those types of routes
- 23:22Speaker 5: and that that's all Gronk stuff, like running him off
- 23:24Speaker 5: of play action and sneaking him by the linebackers, across
- 23:28Speaker 5: the field and up the seams and all that kind
- 23:30Speaker 5: of stuff was all the stuff that they did with Gronk.
- 23:33Speaker 5: You know, it's probably not exactly the same, but you
- 23:36Speaker 5: know it's it's similar, and hopefully they can add that
- 23:39Speaker 5: dimension back into AJ Brown's arsenal and maybe some of
- 23:42Speaker 5: the under the hood numbers that decreased, especially last year.
- 23:46Speaker 5: You know, his yards perrout run is yards after the catch, averages,
- 23:50Speaker 5: his A dot you know, things like that they can
- 23:52Speaker 5: hopefully ramp back up by using using him in different
- 23:57Speaker 5: ways like that that aren't just like hey, you go
- 24:00Speaker 5: over here and you're gonna run a go route and
- 24:02Speaker 5: we're gonna throw it up to you. You know, like
- 24:04Speaker 5: we can maybe be a little bit more creative of
- 24:07Speaker 5: where he's lining up. You know, what were the types
- 24:09Speaker 5: of schemes he's getting targeted on, the routes he's getting
- 24:11Speaker 5: targeted on, and maybe get the Tennessee a J braw.
- 24:14Speaker 6: I mean it lifts, it's it lifts all the boats
- 24:17Speaker 6: this rising tide. You know, So he's gonna help out Dobbs,
- 24:20Speaker 6: He's gonna help out all the other receivers up making
- 24:24Speaker 6: the roster.
- 24:25Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I thought another interesting day from Kyle Williams.
- 24:29Speaker 2: You know, that's another moving on to some of the names.
- 24:31Speaker 2: But you know, again Rabel brought up in his press conference,
- 24:34Speaker 2: Kyle Williams had like seemed like maybe a ball went
- 24:36Speaker 2: through his hands yesterday in an interception. They're just they're
- 24:38Speaker 2: always bringing up Kyle Williams. So you know, I'm kind
- 24:40Speaker 2: of having rising expectations for for Kyle Williams. A little
- 24:44Speaker 2: bit of them bringing him up so much to me
- 24:46Speaker 2: singles that they're looking for things at him, like, you know,
- 24:49Speaker 2: for him to be maybe that complimentary piece that can
- 24:52Speaker 2: eat because Brown and Dobbs and those guys, who's that
- 24:55Speaker 2: speed target that would be what they need. Yeah, they
- 24:58Speaker 2: need to stretch the field, especially with out of this
- 25:00Speaker 2: stage and Dobbs or not.
- 25:02Speaker 5: I don't think those are take the top off defense
- 25:04Speaker 5: kind of guys. Brown's a down the field catch point
- 25:07Speaker 5: like he'll win a jump ball type of guy, but
- 25:09Speaker 5: he's not going to use it with you know, take
- 25:11Speaker 5: the top off.
- 25:12Speaker 6: But that speed can create problems on the middle of the
- 25:15Speaker 6: field at the mesh points.
- 25:17Speaker 5: Yeah, yes, exactly exactly. I think that that's that the
- 25:22Speaker 5: Kyle Williams I actually wrote a nugget about it, because
- 25:26Speaker 5: it feels like that's the missing element. Like Dobbs and
- 25:29Speaker 5: Brown are you know, we talked about their size and
- 25:31Speaker 5: their strength and sort of their sturdiness as receivers. If
- 25:34Speaker 5: they can get Kyle Williams going, even if it's just
- 25:37Speaker 5: as like you know, the old Josh McDaniels sacrificial X
- 25:41Speaker 5: on the outside, and that allows you to move AJ
- 25:43Speaker 5: Brown and Dobbs around and hunt those matchups and maybe
- 25:46Speaker 5: played Brown a little bit more out of the slot
- 25:48Speaker 5: than what he did in Philadelphia, and like that that
- 25:51Speaker 5: unlocks everything. But you need somebody that brings a little
- 25:54Speaker 5: bit of juice, you know, a little bit of speed,
- 25:56Speaker 5: and feels like Kyle Williams should be that guy. He's
- 25:59Speaker 5: just got to take that next stead.
- 26:00Speaker 3: Yeah. So good stuff, good stuff, all right.
- 26:05Speaker 6: And in terms of the terms of the trade, the
- 26:07Speaker 6: Patriots gave up the first in two thousand and eight,
- 26:10Speaker 6: twenty eight, twenty eight and a conditional fifth.
- 26:14Speaker 4: I like your trade better thought in two thousand and eight, Yeah, okay, we'll.
- 26:18Speaker 3: Go back in time.
- 26:19Speaker 6: I'll give that and a conditional fifth next year in
- 26:21Speaker 6: two thousand and seven. Well, I didn't know twenty fifth.
- 26:24Speaker 6: I don't think it's conditional. I heard maybe it's not trade. Okay,
- 26:27Speaker 6: that's yeah, I just heard it. I thought maybe you
- 26:29Speaker 6: had could have been on the timeline.
- 26:30Speaker 4: I thought, maybe you heard from Joey the knows have
- 26:33Speaker 4: a little inside information.
- 26:34Speaker 6: Maybe not, maybe not, but yeah, you never know the
- 26:38Speaker 6: actual terms. But first said right, yeah, first and the fifth.
- 26:42Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, so we're doing a draft show on the
- 26:44Speaker 2: twenty eighth first round.
- 26:46Speaker 5: They did have a they did have a bonus fifth.
- 26:48Speaker 3: They have that pic. Yeah, they had the higher one.
- 26:51Speaker 5: Yeah, so they had a fifth from the Garrett Bradbury trade.
- 26:54Speaker 5: So they had their own fifth and the Bradbury the
- 26:56Speaker 5: Bear's fifth. So they gave up a pick they already
- 26:59Speaker 5: had and you know, to just kind of push it
- 27:02Speaker 5: down the road, like do you get something back for
- 27:04Speaker 5: like a kesh on Booty?
- 27:06Speaker 4: You get the the front pitch back for Booty.
- 27:07Speaker 2: That's what That's what we're talking about on the hill,
- 27:09Speaker 2: as I bringing up to Paul and Ciarady of you
- 27:12Speaker 2: know what happens with Booty now, I just I don't
- 27:14Speaker 2: know why I seem perplexed by this. They you know,
- 27:16Speaker 2: you guys seem to have a pretty good handle on
- 27:17Speaker 2: that question. You know, I feel like it was.
- 27:20Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 27:20Speaker 2: I just wonder where his head is at, Like is
- 27:22Speaker 2: he you know, they explained it to me, so I like.
- 27:25Speaker 4: I mean to you, I need it to and I
- 27:29Speaker 4: just don't want to make it sound like it was.
- 27:31Speaker 4: It was the way that Mike just said it, like
- 27:32Speaker 4: because to him, we're thinking that he is thinking I
- 27:38Speaker 4: need to go somewhere else so I can get some
- 27:40Speaker 4: catches and I can make a chance to get a
- 27:42Speaker 4: free agent contract, because catching thirty five passes is not
- 27:46Speaker 4: going to get me anything on the open market. Right.
- 27:49Speaker 4: Evidently he was dangled now for the second year around
- 27:52Speaker 4: the draft and has not gotten anything worth the Patriots
- 27:56Speaker 4: making a move, so the value is not really there.
- 28:01Speaker 4: He needs to go somewhere, I think where he can
- 28:03Speaker 4: maybe catch seventy five balls, and if you can do that,
- 28:06Speaker 4: then he can put himself in a position where he
- 28:08Speaker 4: might be able to get a Romeo Dobbs contract. If
- 28:12Speaker 4: he's catching thirty five balls like he did last year,
- 28:14Speaker 4: he's not getting that, Yeah, And I think that's the
- 28:16Speaker 4: way he looks at it. I don't think he did
- 28:19Speaker 4: anything wrong. I think he played well when given opportunities
- 28:23Speaker 4: here I don't think there are opportunities to be had
- 28:25Speaker 4: right now. Yeah, I think it's as simple as that,
- 28:28Speaker 4: and I think he knows it, and I think he
- 28:30Speaker 4: just wants to get traded.
- 28:31Speaker 5: Because if you assume that Brown's going to play the
- 28:33Speaker 5: X mostly and that's Keshan Boody's role, and then you
- 28:36Speaker 5: also assume that they want to try to see if
- 28:39Speaker 5: Kyle Williams has anything to offer. You know, now that's
- 28:43Speaker 5: another guy that's probably going to be playing a lot
- 28:45Speaker 5: on the outside. It's just a logjam there all of
- 28:47Speaker 5: a sudden.
- 28:48Speaker 6: So you don't think that Booty has versatility to go
- 28:51Speaker 6: outside the X.
- 28:52Speaker 5: I'm sure he does to a degree. But is he
- 28:55Speaker 5: better as a slot receiver than Dobbs or is he
- 28:59Speaker 5: better than Pop or is he better mac Hollins, Like,
- 29:02Speaker 5: you know, I don't know, honestly, Yeah, but I think
- 29:05Speaker 5: that that's the question. Like either way, I feel like
- 29:07Speaker 5: he's going to be behind somebody, whether he's on the
- 29:09Speaker 5: outside or the inside. So it just yes, he could
- 29:13Speaker 5: technically be the third receiver in the eleven and he
- 29:16Speaker 5: could play that role, but is that, you know, the
- 29:18Speaker 5: Paul's point, is that a role that's going to get
- 29:20Speaker 5: him paid. You know, I don't know.
- 29:22Speaker 4: He's not going to. In my view, he's not going
- 29:25Speaker 4: to get targets over Brown in Dobbs. So I think
- 29:28Speaker 4: the best he could hope for is to be the
- 29:30Speaker 4: third most targets out of the wide receivers. Yeah, I
- 29:34Speaker 4: think you can make an argument, is he better than Hollinds.
- 29:37Speaker 4: You can make that argument. I think that they look
- 29:40Speaker 4: at Hollins's size and versatility differently. But I think I
- 29:43Speaker 4: could make a strong case of Booty over Hollands or
- 29:46Speaker 4: Douglas or Chisholm or Williams or any of those guys.
- 29:50Speaker 4: But it's going to be hard for him to make
- 29:51Speaker 4: a case over Dobbs and Brown. And I think he
- 29:54Speaker 4: looks at that and says, I need to get somewhere
- 29:56Speaker 4: where I can get, you know, close to one hundred
- 29:58Speaker 4: targets some numbers.
- 30:00Speaker 6: He's gonna have to find the perfect situation because if
- 30:04Speaker 6: he wants to even slot himself in as a second
- 30:07Speaker 6: on any team, aren't most teams said it number two.
- 30:10Speaker 4: I mean, at this point a lot of teams don't
- 30:12Speaker 4: have a one.
- 30:12Speaker 3: Well they don't have a one, but they might have.
- 30:14Speaker 4: I was told the Patriots were wasting their time looking
- 30:17Speaker 4: for a number one receiver because there's only like eight
- 30:18Speaker 4: teams in the league. I mean, but that notes this
- 30:21Speaker 4: was like two months ago, that this argument.
- 30:23Speaker 3: But that's a different thing.
- 30:25Speaker 6: Like, see, I'm sure a lot of teams don't have
- 30:28Speaker 6: a one, But if he wants to come in and
- 30:31Speaker 6: get the volume catches of at least the two, he
- 30:34Speaker 6: might have trouble anyone.
- 30:35Speaker 3: I mean, he's gonna have to earn it.
- 30:36Speaker 4: And I mean, you why no one wants him?
- 30:38Speaker 2: I mean, what kind of draft compensation or any of
- 30:40Speaker 2: these teams gonna give up. I mean, at this point,
- 30:42Speaker 2: it feels like a conditional sixth or seventh and he's
- 30:44Speaker 2: coming in with no real juice. He's gonna have to
- 30:46Speaker 2: go in and win any snap that he's going to.
- 30:49Speaker 6: If I were the Patriots and I wanted to keep him,
- 30:51Speaker 6: what I would do is come up with a list
- 30:52Speaker 6: of number three receivers who did very well for themselves
- 30:56Speaker 6: in this league, you know, as number three, or then
- 31:00Speaker 6: establishing themselves with the number three and then moving on
- 31:03Speaker 6: after that.
- 31:04Speaker 3: But I know, is it.
- 31:06Speaker 4: I don't know, like for money wise, like on the
- 31:08Speaker 4: free agent market.
- 31:10Speaker 6: I look at, uh, who were the three that in Cincinnati,
- 31:14Speaker 6: you had Boyd, you had.
- 31:16Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, Higgins, Chase, Yoshevas, like Yoshavas is probably
- 31:19Speaker 5: putting up the same numbers that Booty is.
- 31:21Speaker 4: What you're talking about that when the the time that
- 31:24Speaker 4: Tyler Boyd was there, the other two were rookies. Yeah,
- 31:26Speaker 4: that's different. I'm just like Tyler Boyd was gone when
- 31:29Speaker 4: they had a page Jamar Chase, Like that's what happens. Yeah, yeah, I.
- 31:34Speaker 5: Just it's the easiest way to integrate a J. Brown
- 31:37Speaker 5: is just to give him all of Kashawan Boody's routes
- 31:39Speaker 5: and all this other stuff that we're talking about and
- 31:41Speaker 5: moving him around like that'll come as he gets more
- 31:44Speaker 5: comfortable in the offense.
- 31:45Speaker 4: Freddy Sad, I understand Freddy's Booty Jers. Guy.
- 31:49Speaker 6: I just look at all angles here, you know, I'm
- 31:52Speaker 6: looking at I want the best wide receivers to be here,
- 31:55Speaker 6: whoever they are.
- 31:56Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, no, I would.
- 31:58Speaker 5: I'm not ruling it out that he could play other
- 32:00Speaker 5: spots and maybe make himself valuable that way. I just
- 32:04Speaker 5: I think they have a really nice kind of hierarchy
- 32:07Speaker 5: with a J. Brown Dogs.
- 32:09Speaker 6: Yeah, and I think they've got a good problem right now?
- 32:13Speaker 3: I think good problem.
- 32:14Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I don't think it's a problem. I think
- 32:16Speaker 4: that they've they've upgraded. I think that they took what
- 32:19Speaker 4: they had last year in Digs and Booty and they
- 32:21Speaker 4: went with Brown and Dobbs. I think that's better. Doesn't
- 32:25Speaker 4: mean I'm right. I think what they have now is
- 32:27Speaker 4: better than what the last year.
- 32:28Speaker 6: When I say probably, I mean in terms of numbers.
- 32:30Speaker 6: They'd have to make some decisions. Yeah, they're gonna have
- 32:32Speaker 6: to make decisions, don't.
- 32:34Speaker 4: I don't think Booty's better. Like it's not just one, two, three, four, five,
- 32:39Speaker 4: It's like what roles do these guys play? And I
- 32:43Speaker 4: think Booty's role. I don't think Booty's as good as
- 32:46Speaker 4: to Mario Douglas. At what Tomrio Douglas does. He's a
- 32:51Speaker 4: better player than Tomrio Douglas. Maybe you could make that argument,
- 32:54Speaker 4: but not at what Douglas does. And again I've gone
- 32:56Speaker 4: through the numbers. They're the same from last year. Those
- 33:00Speaker 4: two guys, except for Booty, had some touchdowns. I don't
- 33:05Speaker 4: see him pushing aside targets from from Dobbs or Brown.
- 33:10Speaker 4: I just I don't. I don't see him unless those
- 33:12Speaker 4: guys get hurt and then in which case, Freddy's going
- 33:15Speaker 4: to sit here rightfully and say you probably could use
- 33:18Speaker 4: Booty now.
- 33:18Speaker 2: And that's and that's just what I wonder is is
- 33:20Speaker 2: like if you got nobody that is willing to trade
- 33:22Speaker 2: for him, I mean, are they internally being like, we
- 33:25Speaker 2: can't have him around, or are they saying there's nowhere
- 33:27Speaker 2: to go, you gotta come here.
- 33:30Speaker 3: Rabel has operated. That's a that's a point because he
- 33:34Speaker 3: has a great point. He doesn't want people here that
- 33:37Speaker 3: are disgrunted.
- 33:37Speaker 4: I agree, you don't.
- 33:38Speaker 3: Want to be here.
- 33:39Speaker 4: Go And it's not even just because of Rabel. If
- 33:42Speaker 4: if Evan's right, and I totally agree with the way
- 33:44Speaker 4: Evan unfolded this five minutes ago, Brown's going to be
- 33:48Speaker 4: that role. It's okay. If Kyle Williams in year two
- 33:53Speaker 4: gets the scraps behind, He's going to be okay with that.
- 33:56Speaker 4: He might be able to be a home run hitter
- 33:58Speaker 4: like he was last year at you know, some brief moments.
- 34:01Speaker 4: But it's okay if he continues to develop. Booty's not
- 34:05Speaker 4: in that that mind spot, like that that mental spot.
- 34:08Speaker 2: He's proved it. He feels like he needs he thinks.
- 34:10Speaker 4: He's gotten past that he has probably right, so he
- 34:15Speaker 4: might not be able to take that role and be
- 34:18Speaker 4: happy with it. I think Kyle Williams will be because
- 34:21Speaker 4: I don't.
- 34:21Speaker 5: Just say, do you want to diversified your passing game?
- 34:25Speaker 5: Like if you have Kaishawan Boody, AJ Brown, Romeo Dobs,
- 34:29Speaker 5: Hunter Henry as your four primary targets, it's good, but
- 34:33Speaker 5: it's a little slow, honestly, Like it's just from a
- 34:35Speaker 5: play speed perspective, especially Brown at this stage of his career,
- 34:38Speaker 5: it's a little slow. So guys like Kyle Williams, guys
- 34:42Speaker 5: like Pop Douglas, they bring speed, like Kaishan Boody doesn't
- 34:46Speaker 5: necessarily bring speed, So like it's the redundancy is also
- 34:49Speaker 5: just the redundancy of skill set with Aj Brown, of
- 34:52Speaker 5: like these two guys are kind of power receivers that
- 34:55Speaker 5: win with play strength and body control and hands and
- 34:59Speaker 5: you know, just kind of out muscling guys, and like
- 35:02Speaker 5: how many of those power forwards do you want on
- 35:05Speaker 5: the field at once? Like Hunter Henry is also not
- 35:08Speaker 5: the fastest tight end in the league. So if you
- 35:11Speaker 5: want to have some l you know, stretch the field
- 35:14Speaker 5: kind of element to your offense, then that fits a
- 35:17Speaker 5: lot more with Pop and Kyle Williams sprinkling in even
- 35:21Speaker 5: over a guy like Matt Collins than it does with
- 35:23Speaker 5: Keijon Booty.
- 35:24Speaker 3: All Right, so a lot to talk about. Eight five
- 35:27Speaker 3: to five.
- 35:27Speaker 6: Pats five hundred is the hotline podcast at Patriots dot
- 35:31Speaker 6: com is the email address. So let's get right to
- 35:35Speaker 6: it and we'll see where people want to go. Nick
- 35:38Speaker 6: is in North Dakota. He writes in I'm excited for
- 35:40Speaker 6: the trade. My question is what this transaction does for
- 35:44Speaker 6: your floor and ceiling totals in terms of wins and
- 35:47Speaker 6: losses this season? Do your totals shift a game or
- 35:50Speaker 6: two nine to nine days until Seattle? Does this shift
- 35:54Speaker 6: your your your floor and ceiling?
- 35:57Speaker 5: I don't know if it shifts my I don't know.
- 35:59Speaker 5: I haven't thought about it and wins and losses. I
- 36:02Speaker 5: think they're the best team in the AFC, Like I
- 36:04Speaker 5: really believe that. I think they're the best team.
- 36:06Speaker 3: In the AFC.
- 36:07Speaker 5: AFC yeah on paper, like you're talking about them, maybe
- 36:11Speaker 5: Buffalo Baltimore.
- 36:13Speaker 3: The usual suspect.
- 36:14Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I don't know if you think Kansas
- 36:16Speaker 5: City has a bounce back year in them? The Charger Cincinnati,
- 36:20Speaker 5: like Denver, Sorry I forgot Denver. Like I think that's
- 36:25Speaker 5: sort of the nucleus there, that's they should be in
- 36:28Speaker 5: the mix. I think they have the best roster out
- 36:30Speaker 5: of all those teams. Now, you know, I didn't think
- 36:32Speaker 5: that before, but now I do.
- 36:34Speaker 4: I wouldn't. I don't change my win loss, But partly
- 36:38Speaker 4: that is because I've had aj Brown as part of
- 36:41Speaker 4: my thought process this whole time, right, I mean since
- 36:45Speaker 4: early March, this deal was was imminent and they just
- 36:49Speaker 4: waited till June for Philadelphia's cat purpose.
- 36:52Speaker 5: It was so imminent that like everybody had the ducks
- 36:55Speaker 5: in the row like that was. That was the most
- 36:57Speaker 5: anti climactic major trade I've ever witnessed. I can't even
- 37:01Speaker 5: remember another trade that went down where we knew everything
- 37:06Speaker 5: that was happening, but we still couldn't confirm that it
- 37:09Speaker 5: actually was happening. Like you knew the twenty twenty eight first,
- 37:12Speaker 5: you knew the only news was a fifth round pick. Yeah,
- 37:14Speaker 5: you knew that Brown was going from the Eagles to
- 37:16Speaker 5: the Patriots for a twenty twenty eight first for like
- 37:18Speaker 5: a month, and yesterday we're just sitting there at four
- 37:21Speaker 5: oh one, four oh five, four ten, and I'm like,
- 37:24Speaker 5: we've known this for a month, like.
- 37:26Speaker 4: Like what And then all of a sudden, finally Elliott
- 37:29Speaker 4: Wolf got back to Mike Rabel and said, it's.
- 37:31Speaker 5: Done anti climactic.
- 37:34Speaker 4: It was, it was a little tacomatic.
- 37:36Speaker 6: So my mine's changed a little bit. My floor was
- 37:39Speaker 6: eight and nine. My floor now is ten and seven.
- 37:44Speaker 6: That's my floor. Double disches.
- 37:46Speaker 4: I just I have a hard time with those, and
- 37:48Speaker 4: that Fred's number seems to be the number that everybody's using,
- 37:52Speaker 4: all of the all of our colleagues when they're on
- 37:55Speaker 4: the radio. I hear one of the questions they get
- 37:57Speaker 4: asked is do you think he's do you think he's
- 37:59Speaker 4: worth wins? How many? And two? Everybody says two wins.
- 38:02Speaker 4: I just and then people say, like, you know, like
- 38:04Speaker 4: Stefan Diggs in that Buffalo game at Buffalo last year,
- 38:07Speaker 4: did they win without them?
- 38:09Speaker 7: No?
- 38:09Speaker 4: Do they win without Drake May making those throws?
- 38:11Speaker 3: No?
- 38:12Speaker 4: Like, I don't know how to quantify that is I
- 38:15Speaker 4: guess what I'm trying to say. I think a lot
- 38:18Speaker 4: of what Evan said I agree with. I think their
- 38:20Speaker 4: roster in two years has really improved. Is it the best?
- 38:24Speaker 4: I don't know. You know, I don't. I don't know
- 38:27Speaker 4: if it's better than Baltimore, better than Buffalo, better than Denver,
- 38:30Speaker 4: I don't know. But they have a roster that is
- 38:32Speaker 4: worthy of being compared to those teams now and they
- 38:36Speaker 4: did it in two short years. So I think that
- 38:40Speaker 4: they're I think they should have a chance to to
- 38:43Speaker 4: win the division again and we'll see what happens in
- 38:46Speaker 4: the playoffs. Like I don't know how many more wins
- 38:49Speaker 4: they would have with AJ Brown or without a J. Brown.
- 38:52Speaker 4: But they're good. Yeah, just they're good.
- 38:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:54Speaker 4: No, I's just a feeling and your your number is
- 38:57Speaker 4: what everybody else has said. Two.
- 39:00Speaker 5: I'm I'm sure you know.
- 39:02Speaker 3: I know.
- 39:03Speaker 5: I'm not going to pretend to know all one through
- 39:05Speaker 5: fifty three of all the teams in the AFC, but
- 39:08Speaker 5: just looking at like they're two deeps right like just
- 39:11Speaker 5: like what they have across the board, Like I just
- 39:14Speaker 5: feel like, you know, like every other team, the Patriots
- 39:17Speaker 5: have some depth question marks at certain spots, but it's
- 39:20Speaker 5: hard to find a more complete one through twenty two
- 39:23Speaker 5: in terms of starters. Just they like where is like
- 39:27Speaker 5: their spot that maybe you could make a case for
- 39:30Speaker 5: the linebacker spot next to Robert Spoline as being like
- 39:32Speaker 5: a spot that they don't have, like a great a
- 39:35Speaker 5: good starter at you know, but other than that, like
- 39:39Speaker 5: I feel, you.
- 39:39Speaker 6: Look at the defensive line in total, it's a good
- 39:42Speaker 6: defensive line if you just focus on the edge.
- 39:44Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, I mean you need something there.
- 39:46Speaker 5: Yeah, but at least they have like good NFL starters
- 39:49Speaker 5: and a guy like Draymond Jones, like if Landry is healthy.
- 39:54Speaker 5: You know, I'm still wondering where our boy gave accuses.
- 39:57Speaker 5: I would love to know the answer to that question.
- 39:59Speaker 5: But bigger thing come up and press conferences.
- 40:01Speaker 3: Gabe, you're missing all the fun. Second round.
- 40:03Speaker 6: Today was a great day. Would have loved to have you,
- 40:06Speaker 6: you know, come on over.
- 40:07Speaker 3: I'm good.
- 40:07Speaker 4: What is great?
- 40:08Speaker 2: I think that's the area though to watch it's just,
- 40:10Speaker 2: I mean, where's akis? How much is Harold Lander going
- 40:13Speaker 2: to be back to what he is? If there was
- 40:14Speaker 2: a spot that you had to point to, I'd point
- 40:16Speaker 2: to the edges and the edge pressure is being you know,
- 40:18Speaker 2: a spot where they got to get production out of.
- 40:20Speaker 3: And you know, can Carlton Davis play the whole season?
- 40:23Speaker 2: I mean, you know, if him and Gonzalez without him
- 40:25Speaker 2: and Gonzalez right now, and know Marcus Jones today too.
- 40:28Speaker 2: You see some of these guys getting a chance. You know,
- 40:31Speaker 2: some of them look okay, but it's a far cry
- 40:33Speaker 2: from Christian Gonzalez, Carlton Davis and Marcus Jones. If that's
- 40:36Speaker 2: your trio going through the season, I think you're okay.
- 40:38Speaker 2: I just worry about the edges.
- 40:39Speaker 6: But glaring out there when you're looking at Eddie La
- 40:43Speaker 6: rights in, I'm glad to see the organization believing in
- 40:45Speaker 6: this team enough to go and get AJ Brown if
- 40:47Speaker 6: everything plays out right. Call me crazy, but I think
- 40:51Speaker 6: we're gonna see Romeo Dobbs best season. I know the
- 40:54Speaker 6: talk is AJ Brown and I believe he'll play great,
- 40:57Speaker 6: but I can't help but feel Dobbs best season as
- 40:59Speaker 6: upawn us Well, we talked about Brown raising the level
- 41:05Speaker 6: for everybody, and I you know, I don't know if
- 41:08Speaker 6: it'll be his best season, but he's he's in line
- 41:11Speaker 6: to have some good production this year.
- 41:12Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I was. I would think the floor
- 41:15Speaker 5: for him is probably around eight hundred yards. That is
- 41:18Speaker 5: what he did roughly last year with the Packers, and
- 41:21Speaker 5: I don't see why it shouldn't be more. I mean
- 41:22Speaker 5: AJ Brown is gonna I don't know yet if AJ
- 41:26Speaker 5: Brown's gonna draw like double teams and stuff like that,
- 41:28Speaker 5: but he's at least gonna draw number one corners, like
- 41:31Speaker 5: when you go out there, He's gonna get the number
- 41:34Speaker 5: one corner treatment every single week. And in theory, Romeo
- 41:38Speaker 5: Dobbs should now get the number two corner and it
- 41:40Speaker 5: just kind of slots him into a spot where he's
- 41:43Speaker 5: more comfortable to produce ad and you know that we
- 41:46Speaker 5: can get into all of the fun like defensive structure stuff.
- 41:49Speaker 5: But like the the fact that AJ Brown just kind
- 41:51Speaker 5: of takes that number one corner with him, you know,
- 41:54Speaker 5: to the sideline every single snap is hopefully going to
- 41:57Speaker 5: open up the rest of the areas in the field
- 41:59Speaker 5: for a guy.
- 42:01Speaker 3: Justin wrights In.
- 42:02Speaker 6: AJ Brown should have been here from the very beginning,
- 42:04Speaker 6: but Bill thought Nikhil or Kaneil Harry was a better idea.
- 42:08Speaker 6: It took a little while, but Brown is finally home.
- 42:11Speaker 6: The vibes are through the roof and to the moon.
- 42:14Speaker 6: We got a guy who was ecstatic to be here.
- 42:16Speaker 6: It will be a dog with the fans of love.
- 42:19Speaker 6: Welcome home A J.
- 42:21Speaker 3: Brown.
- 42:22Speaker 6: There you go, Deshaun wants to know any chance we
- 42:26Speaker 6: signed Diggs.
- 42:28Speaker 2: I know people are just a lot talking about that.
- 42:29Speaker 2: I think like that's kind of a fantasy football thing
- 42:31Speaker 2: where you just give me, give me any name receiver.
- 42:34Speaker 2: But it's hard to see him getting having a spot.
- 42:37Speaker 5: Like at this point, when don't you rather than go
- 42:39Speaker 5: after like Caleb and Thibodeau for the Giants.
- 42:42Speaker 6: Yeah, my timeline immediately after the A J. Brown was announced,
- 42:46Speaker 6: they were on to Thibodeaux. All right, now let's get
- 42:48Speaker 6: the edge.
- 42:49Speaker 3: I mean take a second.
- 42:50Speaker 5: I mean, that's it.
- 42:53Speaker 4: The other fifth round pick for him?
- 42:54Speaker 5: What about Kashawan Boodie and some sweetener for.
- 42:58Speaker 2: A couple a couple of six round next year.
- 43:00Speaker 4: I mean, Giants are obviously worried too about Molik neighbors
- 43:03Speaker 4: because they're you know, going back into the OBJ.
- 43:07Speaker 5: He signed the Juju OBJ. Braxton Barrios like there, yeah,
- 43:12Speaker 5: so give him booty there you go? Yeah, I guess
- 43:16Speaker 5: there an under Darius Slayton whispers too that maybe that's
- 43:19Speaker 5: not going great in the John Harbaugh.
- 43:22Speaker 6: Uh Colton Shreveport says AJ Brown was an overpay and
- 43:26Speaker 6: worth every dime.
- 43:27Speaker 2: Uh.
- 43:28Speaker 6: This is exciting, definitely the most offensive potential this team
- 43:31Speaker 6: has had since seventeen, twenty seventeen. To those saying a
- 43:35Speaker 6: first is an overpay, maybe you're right, but look at
- 43:37Speaker 6: the first round picks we've made recently, in no particular order.
- 43:41Speaker 6: Nikhil Harry is a O Win, Malcolm Brown, Dominic Easley,
- 43:44Speaker 6: Cole Strange, Mac Jones, AJ Brown is AJ Brown. But
- 43:48Speaker 6: a first round pick could be anything. It could be
- 43:50Speaker 6: AJ Brown. Uh, he's right.
- 43:53Speaker 5: I will say that the rattling off while they drafted
- 43:57Speaker 5: all these busts in the first round ten years ago,
- 44:00Speaker 5: it's not the argument that you think it is, Like,
- 44:02Speaker 5: that's not the point of.
- 44:04Speaker 4: It's a value. It's a bad argument because forty five
- 44:09Speaker 4: minutes in want you want, I should do like the
- 44:13Speaker 4: other side. Now, sure, So, like rattling off bad picks
- 44:18Speaker 4: as a means to say that this is great is
- 44:22Speaker 4: to me backwards, Like what if you and I'm not
- 44:26Speaker 4: saying that this is what this is Devil's advocate, Okay,
- 44:29Speaker 4: but like what if instead of Will Campbell at four,
- 44:31Speaker 4: you took Tet McMillan. Yeah, then you don't have to
- 44:35Speaker 4: spend a twenty twenty eight first round pick on a
- 44:38Speaker 4: receiver going into a seventh year because you have Tech
- 44:41Speaker 4: mc millan going to his second year.
- 44:44Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, no, if you make it, if you make
- 44:46Speaker 3: good picks, then it's a different story.
- 44:49Speaker 4: Right now, you wouldn't have a left tackle right, Okay,
- 44:51Speaker 4: but you just drafted a left tackle, right, so you
- 44:54Speaker 4: wouldn't have had one last year. Maybe you would have
- 44:56Speaker 4: had to patch it together for a year, but you'd
- 44:58Speaker 4: have the number one receiver in his second year.
- 45:01Speaker 6: Look, if you don't draft well, and if you don't
- 45:03Speaker 6: do free agents, well, let's sets you back.
- 45:05Speaker 4: I can cherry pick all the bad first round picks
- 45:07Speaker 4: and ignore all the good first round picks just to
- 45:09Speaker 4: make my point. But a first round pick has value.
- 45:13Speaker 4: I think it's a great trade because I think if
- 45:15Speaker 4: you want good players, they cost stuff. Good players don't
- 45:19Speaker 4: just become available for nothing. It either costs you a
- 45:21Speaker 4: lot of money or it costs you some resources. In
- 45:23Speaker 4: this case, it costs you both. I'm okay with that.
- 45:26Speaker 4: They needed it, they needed a number one receiver and
- 45:29Speaker 4: they I think it's a good trade.
- 45:30Speaker 5: Yeah, less so than maybe the value we're we're doing
- 45:33Speaker 5: the other side now, Less so than the value of
- 45:37Speaker 5: the pick to me is just where at twenty nine
- 45:40Speaker 5: years old?
- 45:40Speaker 4: Is aj Brown? Yeah, And I think that that's why
- 45:42Speaker 4: there's risk.
- 45:43Speaker 5: I'm not as like, I'm not a doctor, and I
- 45:45Speaker 5: don't have it like I don't know about the knee.
- 45:47Speaker 5: I'm not sure what exactly if that's true or not true.
- 45:50Speaker 5: But the numbers tell you that his play is in decline,
- 45:55Speaker 5: and is that role related? Is that a jailent Hurts problem?
- 45:59Speaker 5: Is that an Eagles off offense problem? I am more
- 46:01Speaker 5: than happy to blame Kevin Batula and Jalen Hurts. I'm
- 46:04Speaker 5: more than happy to do that me too. But the
- 46:07Speaker 5: reality is, is I rattled off you know some of
- 46:09Speaker 5: the fancy numbers earlier. You know, his yards per catch average,
- 46:13Speaker 5: his yards per route run, his a dot, his yards
- 46:16Speaker 5: after the catch, his in game tracking, you know, max
- 46:18Speaker 5: speeds and play you know speed data. All of that
- 46:21Speaker 5: is declining year over year. But is some of that
- 46:25Speaker 5: related to the situation in Philly? And does he kind
- 46:29Speaker 5: of hit a reservoir of you know and run it
- 46:32Speaker 5: back to.
- 46:32Speaker 4: The fifteen General Brigham? But at least one you figure
- 46:38Speaker 4: you get or reinvigorated if you get two years. You're
- 46:41Speaker 4: hoping for Randy Moss. You've heard the same things about
- 46:43Speaker 4: him in Oakland. He don't want to play anymore. But
- 46:46Speaker 4: we didn't hear that he was hurt. Yeah, we heard
- 46:48Speaker 4: he was disinteresting. He was called he wasn't playing hard
- 46:51Speaker 4: because he wasn't important to him. So he obviously could
- 46:54Speaker 4: just flip a switch and play hard. This might not
- 46:56Speaker 4: be as easy. And to Evan's point, this was back
- 47:00Speaker 4: to Tennessee. When Tennessee traded him. Initially it was on doctors' orders.
- 47:06Speaker 4: Like they looked at it like he was up, he
- 47:09Speaker 4: was in the Gonzo spot. He was getting ready to
- 47:11Speaker 4: get that extension, and doctors in Tennessee advised them not
- 47:16Speaker 4: to do it because they felt like the knee was
- 47:18Speaker 4: such that he wouldn't. Now that's obviously turn out to
- 47:21Speaker 4: be wrong. He's had four very productive years, two of
- 47:23Speaker 4: them ridiculously productive, fifteen hundred yards in Philadelphia. So the
- 47:28Speaker 4: doctors in Tennessee were wrong. But that's why they they
- 47:32Speaker 4: didn't re sign him, not because they didn't like him
- 47:34Speaker 4: and didn't want to keep him. The doctors kind of
- 47:38Speaker 4: thought that it was a degenerative condition with the knee
- 47:40Speaker 4: and it was only going to get worse.
- 47:43Speaker 5: I mean, the question is it is risk? Yeah, that's
- 47:45Speaker 5: the risk. And to me, if you get two years
- 47:47Speaker 5: out of him at like p K. J. Brown, then
- 47:49Speaker 5: it's well worth absolutely the first round, especially if you
- 47:52Speaker 5: contempt but you know they will see. But you know,
- 47:54Speaker 5: on the other side, from an Eagles standpoint, like they
- 47:58Speaker 5: did not, they were not very creative with his usage,
- 48:00Speaker 5: especially last year. It was a lot of routes in
- 48:03Speaker 5: isolation backside, you know, receiver, vertical route tree, you go
- 48:07Speaker 5: stand over there, We're gonna hate to throw you a
- 48:09Speaker 5: go ball that's fifty to fifty and if you catch
- 48:11Speaker 5: it graded if you don't.
- 48:12Speaker 6: It just seems like that offense was kind of it
- 48:16Speaker 6: was a weird offense. Like you know, I watched a
- 48:18Speaker 6: handful of Philadelphia games. It almost seemed like they would
- 48:21Speaker 6: do their thing and it's like, Okay, now it's time
- 48:23Speaker 6: for AJ and then it would be.
- 48:25Speaker 4: Watching an NBA game when there's like two stars on
- 48:28Speaker 4: a team, never not you. I don't know why I'm
- 48:30Speaker 4: even asking we.
- 48:31Speaker 2: Have to think about.
- 48:34Speaker 8: That.
- 48:35Speaker 4: Think of I'm gonna go think of Cleveland when Lebron
- 48:38Speaker 4: and Kyrie were there. Yeah, it was like, Okay, Lebron's
- 48:42Speaker 4: the guy, but we're going to throw Kyrie a bone
- 48:45Speaker 4: for a little while here. The third quarter is going
- 48:47Speaker 4: to be the Kyrie quarter. That's what the Eagles offense
- 48:50Speaker 4: looks like all the time. We're gonna go We're going
- 48:52Speaker 4: to go to a J. Brown right now. You know,
- 48:55Speaker 4: it's like.
- 48:55Speaker 5: It's dueling fiddles.
- 48:56Speaker 3: You're never seemed to be any real there was no
- 48:59Speaker 3: you know, he integration.
- 49:00Speaker 4: Yeah, plays setting up place, you know, and you know,
- 49:05Speaker 4: if you believe the reporting, a lot of that gets
- 49:07Speaker 4: blamed on Jalen Hurts and like him having this desire
- 49:10Speaker 4: to kind of run a simpler type of offense. Shotgun
- 49:14Speaker 4: all the time, shotgun all the time, not a ton
- 49:17Speaker 4: of motion, not a ton of turning your back to
- 49:19Speaker 4: the de you know, the defense on play action, you know,
- 49:22Speaker 4: r p O s when he's not necessarily as dynamic
- 49:24Speaker 4: of a runner as he might have been early on
- 49:26Speaker 4: in his career. You know that all that kind of stuff,
- 49:29Speaker 4: and they just kind of, you know, put AJ Brown
- 49:31Speaker 4: in sort of his role, and he ran down the
- 49:34Speaker 4: field and when he got the ball thrown to him,
- 49:36Speaker 4: he tried to go up and catch it, you know,
- 49:38Speaker 4: and and that's hopefully maybe you know, they if they
- 49:42Speaker 4: get more creative, they kind of go back to some
- 49:44Speaker 4: of the stuff that worked in Tennessee. You know, that
- 49:47Speaker 4: can unlock the old you know, a J. Brown and
- 49:50Speaker 4: not the one that he was last even the one
- 49:52Speaker 4: last year, so win for a thousand yards. So it's
- 49:54Speaker 4: not like it's a bad player, but there might be
- 49:56Speaker 4: another level there if you go back to some of
- 49:58Speaker 4: the old stuff.
- 49:59Speaker 2: Read a little Dug Ferra wrote about him today and
- 50:01Speaker 2: he's the same thing, you know, saying Philly kind of
- 50:03Speaker 2: used him as a decoy, you know, and it evolved
- 50:05Speaker 2: to that point too. So maybe that speaks to the
- 50:07Speaker 2: declining production, you know. But I don't know. I just
- 50:10Speaker 2: I trust in Josh McDaniels, and I think he knows
- 50:13Speaker 2: exactly what kind of player he's got. I mean, I
- 50:14Speaker 2: didn't hear him say the thing about Gronk, but that
- 50:16Speaker 2: to me at all. You know, what couldn't you do
- 50:19Speaker 2: with Gronk? That's what we said made him so great?
- 50:21Speaker 2: He could do it all. I know it's different as
- 50:22Speaker 2: a receiver, but I just think he's going to put
- 50:25Speaker 2: him in position to make a lot of impact.
- 50:27Speaker 6: Christan, Connecticut. Do we expect the bills to be over
- 50:29Speaker 6: five hundred through Week eight? At Houston? Detroit, the Chargers,
- 50:34Speaker 6: Patriots at the Rams at Las Vegas and Baltimore. That's
- 50:39Speaker 6: six great to elite defenses. Patriots cy won maybe two
- 50:43Speaker 6: defenses in that same class through Week eight. Patriots have
- 50:47Speaker 6: an opportunity to have a two to three game lead
- 50:49Speaker 6: on the division halfway through the season.
- 50:52Speaker 3: I like that way.
- 50:53Speaker 2: I don't know. I mean, i'd say with the Bills,
- 50:54Speaker 2: new team, new players, new coaches, that's.
- 50:56Speaker 4: A tough start to the season. But I don't really
- 50:59Speaker 4: care what the Bills record is in week eight.
- 51:01Speaker 2: I care what I would say to give them time
- 51:04Speaker 2: with some of the new changes that they've had. I mean,
- 51:06Speaker 2: you know, I think any team new defensive system, some
- 51:09Speaker 2: new pieces on offense.
- 51:10Speaker 3: I mean, you know, they probably rely a little bit
- 51:11Speaker 3: on Josh Allen.
- 51:12Speaker 4: Does the Patriots come out of the gate with three
- 51:15Speaker 4: really tough games out of the first four, right?
- 51:18Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 51:19Speaker 4: That to me is like when you could easily be
- 51:21Speaker 4: one in three. Yeah.
- 51:22Speaker 3: I'm not too worried about the starts.
- 51:23Speaker 2: I think after the buye for the Patriots, it's tell
- 51:26Speaker 2: me what the Bills are. But you're gonna have your
- 51:28Speaker 2: fate in your hands as long as you're able to
- 51:30Speaker 2: not collapse over that first few months of the season.
- 51:33Speaker 3: Put yourself in position.
- 51:34Speaker 6: At the end of all, right, eight five to five
- 51:36Speaker 6: pats five hundred, let's get to the phone.
- 51:38Speaker 3: A couple of calls.
- 51:40Speaker 6: Yeah, Christians in LA. What's up Christian?
- 51:46Speaker 9: Hey, you guys, Hey, you guys, Hey, you guys.
- 51:48Speaker 3: Hey.
- 51:48Speaker 10: First and foremost, they are talking about it very much
- 51:52Speaker 10: here in LA, with you know, stack in back of
- 51:55Speaker 10: the chips to try to get a home super Bowl.
- 51:58Speaker 10: That's a big deal out here. Secondly, yeah, AJ Brown,
- 52:03Speaker 10: incredible player, exactly what we needed, exactly when we needed it.
- 52:08Speaker 10: With that, with that said, I found it incredibly like
- 52:14Speaker 10: symbiotic that AJ Brown's best route happened to be the
- 52:19Speaker 10: best routes that Drake may throw. I think they're both
- 52:22Speaker 10: high up in the statistics. With that, I wanted to say,
- 52:27Speaker 10: though for me, it kind of boils down to the
- 52:30Speaker 10: other impact players. Uh, not so much receiver wise, but
- 52:35Speaker 10: if and I'm asking if you guys are seeing anything
- 52:37Speaker 10: with someone like a Trevion Henderson that has just a
- 52:41Speaker 10: bunch of potential, he can see the feel better with
- 52:43Speaker 10: AJ Brown backing up a lot of the linebackers and
- 52:47Speaker 10: the safeties. I think that's the key to us having
- 52:50Speaker 10: just this mega explosive offense. But the question I wanted
- 52:53Speaker 10: to ask you guys was with La going all in,
- 52:57Speaker 10: if we were to follow suit now with aj Brown,
- 53:00Speaker 10: who would you guys be willing to mortgage next year's
- 53:03Speaker 10: first round pick for that you think would absolutely solidifies
- 53:07Speaker 10: to put us over the top. I'll take it off line,
- 53:10Speaker 10: let's go past.
- 53:11Speaker 5: All right, thanks, I'm not trading that pig Miles Garrett, Yeah,
- 53:17Speaker 5: obviously right, excuding And if like the Texans make Will
- 53:23Speaker 5: Anderson available, then, like you know, I'll change my mind.
- 53:26Speaker 5: But the twenty twenty seven first to me, is off
- 53:29Speaker 5: the table unless it's for like a player of that
- 53:32Speaker 5: that caliber, which isn't happening. But the caveon Thibodeaux thing
- 53:35Speaker 5: is interesting to me.
- 53:36Speaker 4: I would take a flyer on him.
- 53:38Speaker 5: Yea.
- 53:38Speaker 4: But let me ask you this, This is a another
- 53:41Speaker 4: complete hypothetical. If it was one year later, would you
- 53:46Speaker 4: be looking to get into the Micah Parsons thing from
- 53:50Speaker 4: last year? Like if Parsons, you know, went from Green
- 53:55Speaker 4: Bay to Dallas and a blockbuster deal last year, would
- 53:59Speaker 4: you know? But he was like, well, the patrioton is
- 54:01Speaker 4: not there yet. Like they shouldn't have necessary now, I.
- 54:05Speaker 2: Mean for Michael Parsons, I think I'm always there.
- 54:07Speaker 4: Would you have done would you have done that? Like
- 54:09Speaker 4: last year? Like if there was this it this year?
- 54:13Speaker 4: Are way you are right now? Would you would you
- 54:17Speaker 4: give the twenty seven first round pick? But probably you
- 54:19Speaker 4: wouldn't get it just for that, you know, right, That's
- 54:21Speaker 4: the problem is you have to do for more and
- 54:23Speaker 4: he got two. So if you get if you're giving
- 54:27Speaker 4: so now.
- 54:27Speaker 3: You don't have to a first round for two years.
- 54:29Speaker 5: For three years because you're probably gonna have to give
- 54:31Speaker 5: up two first round picks for Michael Parsons.
- 54:33Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah, that's what that's what if Dallas did
- 54:38Speaker 4: Dallas got two ones for.
- 54:39Speaker 5: Yeah, I think that they've giving up the twenty twenty
- 54:43Speaker 5: eight first for a J. Brown?
- 54:44Speaker 4: Is enough mortgaging the future for me?
- 54:46Speaker 5: For now? Like I again, if it's like Will Anderson
- 54:50Speaker 5: or you know whatever, then how about.
- 54:52Speaker 4: Yes, how about you recoup your number one pick by
- 54:57Speaker 4: trading Gonzo?
- 54:58Speaker 6: Well that's what people are saying, Oh stop it, Yeah,
- 55:01Speaker 6: that's what people are saying.
- 55:02Speaker 4: No, I've heard that he's no fun at all, and
- 55:04Speaker 4: I've heard that's way all my.
- 55:05Speaker 6: Just I mean, I I'd rather keep him obviously. I mean,
- 55:08Speaker 6: he's one of the best players in his position in
- 55:10Speaker 6: the league. So isn't that kind of what you're trying
- 55:13Speaker 6: to do.
- 55:13Speaker 4: Yeah, I've said this a million times. You're billing yourself
- 55:16Speaker 4: as a draft and developed team, and this is basically
- 55:19Speaker 4: your first test case. You have a guy that you drafted.
- 55:23Speaker 4: I know that this regime didn't draft him, but you
- 55:25Speaker 4: drafted him, and he's developed into an elite player and
- 55:30Speaker 4: you're gonna let him go. He's just gonna trade him
- 55:32Speaker 4: or not pay him. That doesn't make any sense to me.
- 55:34Speaker 4: You want to be a draft and developed team. Guys
- 55:37Speaker 4: like Christian Gonzales should get contracts if they turned around.
- 55:39Speaker 5: To do it at safety, If they turned around and
- 55:43Speaker 5: traded Gonzales after trading for A J. Brown, all the
- 55:46Speaker 5: things I said off the top of the show, I
- 55:47Speaker 5: take that. That's like that's a Bill move, Like we're
- 55:50Speaker 5: gonna trade for the receiver, but we're gonna recoup it
- 55:53Speaker 5: by trading away to the other star. It's like, nope,
- 55:56Speaker 5: We're like, you just traded a twenty twenty eight first
- 55:58Speaker 5: for a J. Brown.
- 55:59Speaker 4: You're going to know how it works.
- 56:00Speaker 5: You're you're going for it.
- 56:01Speaker 3: Like, let's not go forty points a game.
- 56:03Speaker 5: You don't really need that, que I'll take.
- 56:05Speaker 4: The stories hurt, Like, come on, I mean he's pretty
- 56:09Speaker 4: good for like I don't know, ten games.
- 56:11Speaker 5: To me, that would be so counterintuitive to what they
- 56:15Speaker 5: ran the off season.
- 56:16Speaker 4: And I really think that that they really hammered that home.
- 56:19Speaker 4: We want to be a draft and developed team, and
- 56:21Speaker 4: I believe them. I think that's how they've operated. So
- 56:24Speaker 4: if you turn around and you do not sign him,
- 56:27Speaker 4: I think you're telling everybody it's slip service.
- 56:29Speaker 6: Yeah, Todd's and Carolina, what's.
- 56:32Speaker 3: Up, Todd?
- 56:34Speaker 7: Hey, Paul, sorry for you know, busting your balls the
- 56:37Speaker 7: other day about the tweet. Yeah, speaking of commentators, sports guys,
- 56:43Speaker 7: is there any chance of maybe getting fifty back on
- 56:45Speaker 7: the pre and post game because I heard he's unemployed,
- 56:47Speaker 7: or maybe we can do Heart and fifty to replace,
- 56:50Speaker 7: you know, the afternoon show that John had and he thought.
- 56:54Speaker 3: We're thinking about everything.
- 56:56Speaker 4: A lot of things in uh, just a lot of
- 56:59Speaker 4: things on the table, none of which seemed to be happy.
- 57:03Speaker 3: All right, Thanks Todd, appreciate the call.
- 57:05Speaker 4: I'm glad that Todd brought something up because I owe
- 57:09Speaker 4: I owe that guy on Twitter an apology because I
- 57:12Speaker 4: am a moron and I can't read. So I completely
- 57:16Speaker 4: misread the tweet. Oh, the whole thing that had me
- 57:20Speaker 4: all up in a ladder.
- 57:21Speaker 2: It put it ruined a day of Paul's life, and
- 57:24Speaker 2: all for not.
- 57:25Speaker 4: He immediately reached out to me, is like, I was
- 57:27Speaker 4: really surprised to hear you talking about my tweet today.
- 57:31Speaker 4: Blah blah blah blah blah. He goes, I was actually
- 57:33Speaker 4: saying exactly what you said. And I went back and
- 57:35Speaker 4: I read it and there's like some punctuation in there
- 57:38Speaker 4: that I missed and changes the whole tenor basically he
- 57:42Speaker 4: was saying, I appreciate your coverage by keeping it in perspective.
- 57:47Speaker 4: He didn't. He just you know, like coma keeping it
- 57:49Speaker 4: in perspective, not telling me I need to keep it
- 57:52Speaker 4: in perspective. So I completely misread the whole thing. I
- 57:56Speaker 4: apologize a thousand times for being rude and not being
- 57:59Speaker 4: able to read.
- 58:00Speaker 2: And that's why you take this opportunity to piggyback off
- 58:04Speaker 2: of what Paul said, because you also received the package
- 58:06Speaker 2: today that apparently someone.
- 58:09Speaker 5: Very bad like something like you know. Luckily they they
- 58:14Speaker 5: monitor these packages, right, Fred, Like they make sure there's
- 58:17Speaker 5: nothing There was no powder in it. Yeah, I didn't
- 58:19Speaker 5: want to say that, but yeah, no, there was a
- 58:22Speaker 5: I got a very lovely package and it was a
- 58:25Speaker 5: letter and a Jersey Mike S gift card where it
- 58:29Speaker 5: claimed the listener claimed that they like got into an
- 58:32Speaker 5: argument with me on the on a in a call
- 58:34Speaker 5: a couple of weeks ago, and that they felt so
- 58:38Speaker 5: bad they wrote me a whole letter apologizing for how
- 58:42Speaker 5: like much of a jerk they were in this call
- 58:44Speaker 5: that I I don't mean this personally. I don't remember
- 58:48Speaker 5: in a way that like it wasn't that bad. It's like,
- 58:51Speaker 5: don't like beat yourself up about it because it didn't
- 58:53Speaker 5: like do anything. Uh and it was very nice though.
- 58:58Speaker 10: Card.
- 58:58Speaker 2: They just sent the shirts back.
- 59:00Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, so like we can mail the shirts back
- 59:02Speaker 5: to them hopefully because they can keep it, like their
- 59:05Speaker 5: their fans in the show.
- 59:06Speaker 6: Pu T shirts send them sent them back because they wow,
- 59:11Speaker 6: like I shouldn't have to, I don't deserve I'm.
- 59:13Speaker 5: Yeah, I want to send the shirts back, thank you.
- 59:16Speaker 2: That's what we thought, but.
- 59:18Speaker 5: I'm always how we can sign them and send them back.
- 59:20Speaker 5: They keep the shirts that's totally fine. Yeah, yeah, I've
- 59:24Speaker 5: never that's ever happened before.
- 59:25Speaker 6: Something going on here, yeah, uh, Jacket and Arbor, the
- 59:29Speaker 6: trade for a J.
- 59:30Speaker 3: Brown was not an overpay.
- 59:31Speaker 6: It was a boggin in exchange for a bottom of
- 59:34Speaker 6: the first round pick next spring the Patriot.
- 59:37Speaker 3: Well, that's not true.
- 59:38Speaker 6: The Patriots acquired a premium receiver who can play at
- 59:41Speaker 6: a high level immediately. Patriots couldn't have acquired as good
- 59:45Speaker 6: a player with that pick, not to mention a player
- 59:48Speaker 6: who can perform at an elite level immediately.
- 59:50Speaker 3: But we don't know where that.
- 59:51Speaker 4: I just don't know how you know who? You know?
- 59:53Speaker 4: Who are?
- 59:54Speaker 5: I feel pretty good though, Like a lot of people
- 59:56Speaker 5: assume that there might be some regression to the mean
- 59:59Speaker 5: in twenty twenty. I don't feel like that's gonna be
- 1:00:03Speaker 5: like a two year thing though, right, Like we all
- 1:00:04Speaker 5: think the team is heading in a good direction.
- 1:00:06Speaker 4: No, But regardless of what number the pick is, how
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: do you know how the player is going to be?
- 1:00:11Speaker 4: How do you know who you would pick?
- 1:00:13Speaker 5: Oh, well that's fair, But I'm just saying, like, if
- 1:00:15Speaker 5: they're giving up a first in twenty twenty seven with
- 1:00:17Speaker 5: the tougher schedule, and then this and all the elements
- 1:00:20Speaker 5: that we think maybe will lead to a lower win total.
- 1:00:22Speaker 5: You feel a little bit on the fence about it,
- 1:00:25Speaker 5: but the fact that it's two years out, like, I
- 1:00:28Speaker 5: just can't imagine that they're going to be, you know, bad,
- 1:00:30Speaker 5: two years in a row basically, right, Like, I feel
- 1:00:33Speaker 5: like they're in a pretty good spot to be pretty
- 1:00:35Speaker 5: good long term.
- 1:00:36Speaker 4: But any like anything could happen about where the number is.
- 1:00:40Speaker 4: I'm not overly concerned about it, but I would just
- 1:00:42Speaker 4: look at it like apples to apples. Four years ago,
- 1:00:46Speaker 4: Tennessee traded AJ Brown after his what his second year,
- 1:00:49Speaker 4: third year, third year, after his third year, they traded
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: AJ Brown to Philadelphia for a first and a third.
- 1:00:56Speaker 4: Four years later, the Eagles traded him for a first
- 1:01:00Speaker 4: than a fifth. That's not that much different. So I
- 1:01:04Speaker 4: don't know how you can say, like that's a bargain.
- 1:01:06Speaker 6: Now.
- 1:01:06Speaker 4: I'm not telling you they overpaid. I'm not telling you
- 1:01:08Speaker 4: it was a bad trade. I think it's a terrific
- 1:01:10Speaker 4: trade that the Patriots really needed to make. But they
- 1:01:14Speaker 4: paid market value the guy. Again, I say this all
- 1:01:17Speaker 4: the time. If you're a hell bent you don't want
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: to give the first round pick, then you really don't
- 1:01:21Speaker 4: want the player because that's what good players cost. Like
- 1:01:24Speaker 4: this is a really good player, and you can't just
- 1:01:27Speaker 4: get these guys for nothing unless they're free agents, then
- 1:01:30Speaker 4: you can just pay money. This guy required compensation. I
- 1:01:34Speaker 4: don't have any problem, but I'm also not going to say, well,
- 1:01:37Speaker 4: this is a bargain first and a fifth. People were
- 1:01:40Speaker 4: telling me last week the Patriots had all the leverage
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: in this deal, which I didn't buy from the start
- 1:01:45Speaker 4: because I think Howie Roseman is stubborn enough to not
- 1:01:48Speaker 4: make the trade if he doesn't get what he wants.
- 1:01:51Speaker 4: He would have just held onto the guy and let
- 1:01:52Speaker 4: him rode.
- 1:01:54Speaker 6: Okay, right, Bob wants to know, are you already dreaming
- 1:01:58Speaker 6: a football season?

- 1:05:00Speaker 1: My agent? Uh.
- 1:05:01Speaker 15: My reaction was, you know, uh, super excited to play
- 1:05:07Speaker 15: with play played for my childhood uh team, And uh yeah,
- 1:05:13Speaker 15: just Flake.
- 1:05:15Speaker 16: Told us that when I'm the Titans drafted, you told
- 1:05:17Speaker 16: him I wish the Stangers drapped me. Can you just
- 1:05:19Speaker 16: sort of walk us through your fandom?
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: And that night, Yeah, that was a tough night.
- 1:05:25Speaker 15: I was. It was a tough night. I joked about
- 1:05:28Speaker 15: it earlier. I say, the page has been breaking my heart,
- 1:05:30Speaker 15: you know, over the years. But you know that night
- 1:05:32Speaker 15: was Uh, I was looking forward to getting picked, you know,
- 1:05:35Speaker 15: going in the first round. I was rejecting the first
- 1:05:37Speaker 15: round pick. You know, obviously things can go another way.
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: And uh, you know.
- 1:05:42Speaker 15: That thirty second pick, it took another receiver as soon
- 1:05:46Speaker 15: as as soon as.
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: The pick came in.
- 1:05:48Speaker 15: I was already like in my car, had leaving the
- 1:05:51Speaker 15: leaving my drop party, and you know, I went back
- 1:05:53Speaker 15: to my room and you know, I went into closet
- 1:05:55Speaker 15: and just kind of tried to gather myself, you know,
- 1:05:57Speaker 15: because I was just disappointed. You know, It's something that
- 1:06:00Speaker 15: I wanted to where I wanted to be. You know,
- 1:06:02Speaker 15: obviously I wanted to play with tom So and that
- 1:06:05Speaker 15: didn't happen. But you know, everything happens for a reason.
- 1:06:07Speaker 16: So I think you said that Sunday was like Christmas
- 1:06:10Speaker 16: Eve or at what point did you know that you would.
- 1:06:14Speaker 4: Be coming to the Patriots.
- 1:06:17Speaker 15: I didn't know until like the day the day of. Honestly,
- 1:06:20Speaker 15: it was, uh, it was always touch and go. You
- 1:06:23Speaker 15: didn't know. You know, I lit my agent kind of
- 1:06:25Speaker 15: handle that I was staying focused with my my family
- 1:06:28Speaker 15: and trying to be with my feet ware, you know,
- 1:06:29Speaker 15: and let him do his job.
- 1:06:31Speaker 17: A j did.
- 1:06:32Speaker 16: You had great success in went to a couple of
- 1:06:34Speaker 16: Super Bowls, won a Super Bowl for straight one thousand
- 1:06:37Speaker 16: yard seasons, but it felt like and from the reporting
- 1:06:40Speaker 16: of it, then maybe there was some dissatisfaction there at
- 1:06:42Speaker 16: the end that helped sort of speed this up. Can
- 1:06:44Speaker 16: you kind of walk us through what happened that led
- 1:06:47Speaker 16: you to be out the door there and in here.
- 1:06:50Speaker 15: I won't get into like details about it, but you know, uh,
- 1:06:55Speaker 15: you know, I'm excited for this opportunity.
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:06:57Speaker 15: Uh, you know I'm here now not to get into details.
- 1:07:00Speaker 15: None of that stuff matters, you know. Uh, what's done
- 1:07:03Speaker 15: is done, and we're here and we're moving forward.
- 1:07:07Speaker 18: Keep using the work excitement and now that it's happened, really,
- 1:07:10Speaker 18: I mean, this has been talked about forever. Yeah, so
- 1:07:13Speaker 18: so can you explain that level of excitement now that
- 1:07:15Speaker 18: it's really happening here?
- 1:07:19Speaker 15: Just talking to my mom and I was like, man,
- 1:07:20Speaker 15: I'm still in the off you know, I'm trying to
- 1:07:23Speaker 15: adjust and you know, walking up the hill with the
- 1:07:26Speaker 15: with the uniform on, I was like, man.
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: This is uh, this is this is this is this
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: is real, you know.
- 1:07:32Speaker 15: And I caught myself on one point of practice, wasn't
- 1:07:38Speaker 15: paying attention because I was like, I'm a Patriot, you know,
- 1:07:42Speaker 15: you know, and uh, just trying to take it all
- 1:07:45Speaker 15: in as much as I can, you know, obviously, you know,
- 1:07:47Speaker 15: you know, I got back to work quickly, but it's
- 1:07:50Speaker 15: just it's levels to it, and I'm like I said,
- 1:07:52Speaker 15: I'm enjoying it. It's just obviously I know this ain't heaven,
- 1:07:55Speaker 15: but you know it's close to it.
- 1:07:57Speaker 18: When you guys had that puddle at the end that
- 1:07:59Speaker 18: Michael Us and you were listening to his voice and
- 1:08:02Speaker 18: then did you kind of put your head down like
- 1:08:04Speaker 18: a little surrealed for you?
- 1:08:06Speaker 15: No, that was this morning. That was morning when Barry
- 1:08:08Speaker 15: was getting on Will Campbell. He was getting on him, man,
- 1:08:13Speaker 15: he was. He was saying, he was like, don't leave this.
- 1:08:16Speaker 15: I'm about to get to my best part. And I
- 1:08:18Speaker 15: was like, I've been around your million times. I knew
- 1:08:19Speaker 15: what you're about to do it to him, you know,
- 1:08:21Speaker 15: And so uh, that's when it kind of just started
- 1:08:24Speaker 15: to sit in and I'm around very you know.
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: So where did fashion come from?
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: For the Patriots?
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: What do you say to the fans out that you're here.
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: That are going to be watching you every week?
- 1:08:34Speaker 15: Fashion cames from, uh, wanting to be like my big cousin.
- 1:08:37Speaker 15: He was a big Patriots fan, and I want to
- 1:08:39Speaker 15: you know, like I said, I want to be like him.
- 1:08:40Speaker 15: And as far as I can remember, you know, I
- 1:08:43Speaker 15: was a Patriot fan and and uh, to the fans.
- 1:08:46Speaker 15: You know it's time, you know, better late than ever.
- 1:08:48Speaker 15: We're right on time. And I'm so excited, you know,
- 1:08:51Speaker 15: I can't wait to get out there and Jillette Stadium
- 1:08:53Speaker 15: and you know, hit the crowd and make plays and
- 1:08:55Speaker 15: have fun.
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: About playing with Drick everything.
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: Man.
- 1:08:59Speaker 15: You know, I was watching him then today you know
- 1:09:01Speaker 15: obviously you know, I'm learning the plays and get out
- 1:09:03Speaker 15: there with him. You know, he can make any throw.
- 1:09:05Speaker 15: He's very poised. Like today in the meeting, I would say,
- 1:09:08Speaker 15: he kind of took over to me. You know, Josh
- 1:09:10Speaker 15: was speaking and he you know, kind of cut Josh off,
- 1:09:12Speaker 15: not in the rude way, but you know, he just
- 1:09:14Speaker 15: kind of took over, you know. And that's it said
- 1:09:17Speaker 15: so much from a young guy, you know, to to
- 1:09:19Speaker 15: know what he's talking about, number one, and to league,
- 1:09:22Speaker 15: you know, and to be the voice of this team.
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: So when I heard that, I was like, wow, that
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: was impressive.
- 1:09:28Speaker 15: You know, obviously I heard great things about him, but
- 1:09:31Speaker 15: that part along tells me a lot about him and
- 1:09:33Speaker 15: how much he loves his job and you know he
- 1:09:35Speaker 15: studies and everything.
- 1:09:36Speaker 16: So yeah, first of all, become to England with story.
- 1:09:41Speaker 4: Specifically a lot of people talk about your abilities as
- 1:09:45Speaker 4: a deep all receiver and a lot of people talk
- 1:09:47Speaker 4: about his skills as a default passer on Just how
- 1:09:50Speaker 4: do you feel like your game can compliment one another?
- 1:09:52Speaker 15: Obviously you know that that component of it. Yeah, we
- 1:09:55Speaker 15: want to grow in that part, but also we want
- 1:09:56Speaker 15: to grow.
- 1:09:56Speaker 3: In our areas.
- 1:09:57Speaker 15: You know, we want to try to u type of
- 1:10:00Speaker 15: three three levels three three three levels.
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: On the field, you know, short vieting me alone.
- 1:10:04Speaker 14: So what do you about your first impression of Mike
- 1:10:07Speaker 14: Rabel and how is your relationship.
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: My first impression, Oh, I did not like him.
- 1:10:12Speaker 15: Yeah, I mean I can say that, you know, but uh,
- 1:10:16Speaker 15: what I've grown into.
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: Man, he's a he's a great guy. He's a great guy.
- 1:10:19Speaker 15: And uh he coaches hord, He hold his guys accountable,
- 1:10:22Speaker 15: you know, and I don't I'm not saying that lightly.
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: He really does, you know. And he leads his leaves
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: this group, leads the team.
- 1:10:29Speaker 15: You know, And honestly, I believe that he's daring somebody
- 1:10:32Speaker 15: to challenge him so he can show, you know, he
- 1:10:34Speaker 15: still thinks he could play.
- 1:10:35Speaker 19: So yeah, howeful were with Josh McDaniels before you got here,
- 1:10:41Speaker 19: and what do you think of his offense and also
- 1:10:42Speaker 19: you're infinite specifically how he likes to move pieces around.
- 1:10:46Speaker 15: Just for the short time, short little period that we talked.
- 1:10:48Speaker 15: You know, I'm excited, you know. Uh, he's giving me
- 1:10:51Speaker 15: a whole bunch of ideas. He I've been around very
- 1:10:53Speaker 15: long enough to not get into scheme, so I can't
- 1:10:56Speaker 15: give you nothing, but I'm excited, you know.
- 1:10:59Speaker 4: Uh, So.
- 1:11:01Speaker 19: What do you have to be to be for you
- 1:11:04Speaker 19: to feel fulfilled here?
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: What your role have to.
- 1:11:09Speaker 3: But on the.
- 1:11:10Speaker 19: Feel when the season goes when when they when the
- 1:11:12Speaker 19: magic of being a Patriot wears off a little bit
- 1:11:15Speaker 19: and you get into the season, what do you have
- 1:11:18Speaker 19: to do for you to feel like or what what
- 1:11:21Speaker 19: do I have to do or to or what is
- 1:11:23Speaker 19: it your kind of percentage of role of the offense
- 1:11:27Speaker 19: have to be to feel like that that you're you're
- 1:11:29Speaker 19: fulfilling what you feel like you want to be.
- 1:11:32Speaker 15: I'm just gonna work hard and let things, let the
- 1:11:35Speaker 15: chills far they may, you know, go out there and
- 1:11:37Speaker 15: make plays and you know, help my teammates.
- 1:11:38Speaker 17: That's all down and Mike Vogue and he said, dunning
- 1:11:46Speaker 17: down in particulars is demanding a smart player expects a
- 1:11:50Speaker 17: lot from everyone.
- 1:11:53Speaker 20: How do you temper your demanding nature with gotta go
- 1:11:57Speaker 20: go along to get along here too?
- 1:11:59Speaker 17: As you you in a new team.
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: I think first off, you got to learn the guys.
- 1:12:04Speaker 21: You know.
- 1:12:04Speaker 15: You just can't come in and demanding, you know. Uh,
- 1:12:07Speaker 15: Like today they wanted me to get up in the front.
- 1:12:09Speaker 15: I'm like, nah, I got to earn it, you know,
- 1:12:11Speaker 15: And he was like, you know, it's a respect that
- 1:12:13Speaker 15: I'm like, I got to earn that first, you know,
- 1:12:15Speaker 15: And I want to earn it, and I want to
- 1:12:16Speaker 15: earn those guys respect, you know. But obviously its about
- 1:12:19Speaker 15: getting to know him first. And obviously you can see
- 1:12:20Speaker 15: how far you can push them because you know, I
- 1:12:22Speaker 15: just want to serve guys and help guys as much
- 1:12:23Speaker 15: as I can, you know, uh, on the field, off
- 1:12:26Speaker 15: the field, you know, whatever I can do.
- 1:12:27Speaker 22: So Jay, you mentioned having followed the Patriots. We've heard
- 1:12:31Speaker 22: Josh McDaniels will show clips of you know, past teams,
- 1:12:34Speaker 22: older players throughout your NFL career. Are there any former
- 1:12:37Speaker 22: Patriots you've modeled your game after, guys you've built a
- 1:12:40Speaker 22: relationship that you've gotten advice from.
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: Other than the obvious time.
- 1:12:46Speaker 15: But uh, but nobody uh, nobody. Yeah, yeah, random Moss
- 1:12:54Speaker 15: here or what I mean like friends and random Moss.
- 1:12:58Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:12:58Speaker 2: I see the stand in front of the whole team,
- 1:13:00Speaker 2: and you were like.
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, it was a it was on a stress.
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: They wanted me to leave the line. So I was
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: just like, you know, I'm cool. You know, let me
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: earn it for you first insuriance with your men.
- 1:13:12Speaker 4: You just let us know kind of how your knee
- 1:13:14Speaker 4: is feeling.
- 1:13:15Speaker 23: Any updates with that because I know sometimes like the
- 1:13:18Speaker 23: injury has come up.
- 1:13:19Speaker 15: Uh no injury, nothing to worry about, you know. I think, uh,
- 1:13:26Speaker 15: this whole little you gotta understand where I came from.
- 1:13:30Speaker 15: So any any conversation about anything's gonna come.
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: Up, you know.
- 1:13:33Speaker 15: So uh uh maybe in what four years, I missed
- 1:13:39Speaker 15: one game from.
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: Shot to the shot to the knee, So that's nothing
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: to worry about. I'm good, ready to go. You know.
- 1:13:47Speaker 18: So you talked about being mindful of your rule today
- 1:13:52Speaker 18: and easy your way in might talk about Coach talked
- 1:13:55Speaker 18: about your leadership is your humble gud, but you else
- 1:13:58Speaker 18: are gonna want to lead, so pointanially, that's gonna just
- 1:14:03Speaker 18: how's that gonna play?
- 1:14:04Speaker 4: You know?
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: You let that happen organically.
- 1:14:06Speaker 15: I don't want to come in and try to force anything,
- 1:14:08Speaker 15: you know, Like I said, I wanna earn, earn my
- 1:14:10Speaker 15: respect for my teammates, you know, about how hard I
- 1:14:12Speaker 15: work and how I show up.
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: You know. Uh, that's it.
- 1:14:16Speaker 16: So why did you have time?
- 1:14:19Speaker 24: Why did you go picking number one?
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: Sign up?
- 1:14:21Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: Uh one Julia Edelman?
- 1:14:24Speaker 15: You know, obviously he gave me his grace to to
- 1:14:26Speaker 15: to wear eleven. But you know, uh, I got so
- 1:14:29Speaker 15: much respect and so much love for him.
- 1:14:31Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:14:32Speaker 15: Uh, I'm gonna let it. I'm gonna let that be,
- 1:14:34Speaker 15: you know, and I'm gonna cry my own legacy here,
- 1:14:36Speaker 15: you know. And uh, just getting back to my roots.
- 1:14:38Speaker 15: You know, I was number one all the way up
- 1:14:41Speaker 15: until I got to the league, you know, and I
- 1:14:43Speaker 15: tried to get number one in Tennessee and I could,
- 1:14:45Speaker 15: you know, cause I war Moon but uh and even
- 1:14:48Speaker 15: Philly has tried to get on one.
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: But Jay just changed to one, you know, from two.
- 1:14:52Speaker 15: So you know, it's mass made of him and going
- 1:14:55Speaker 15: back to my roots, you know, and it feels good.
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: So that's all not crazy.
- 1:14:57Speaker 6: How much do you feel you have loved to how
- 1:15:00Speaker 6: much where you're at in your in your career.
- 1:15:04Speaker 2: See.
- 1:15:06Speaker 4: Thank you and now great moments in.
- 1:15:12Speaker 3: History.
- 1:15:13Speaker 2: Well, I was shocked.
- 1:15:14Speaker 8: I don't know, do we are we talk about this
- 1:15:15Speaker 8: of like, you know, they're building up like, oh, it's
- 1:15:17Speaker 8: a happy hour, it's a happy hour.
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: And then I went up and I'm like trying to
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: get the beer. Who do I pay? And they're like no, no,
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: it's free.
- 1:15:22Speaker 8: And everybody's looking at me like I'm an idiot, not
- 1:15:24Speaker 8: realizing that that happy hour meant free beer. Like I'm like,
- 1:15:27Speaker 8: these are two different things like happy hours, like no
- 1:15:30Speaker 8: four dollars drafts, it's not free beers. But this place,
- 1:15:33Speaker 8: every time six o'clock on the nose, they got to
- 1:15:36Speaker 8: open bar.
- 1:15:36Speaker 6: Now that's open bar, right, open bars isn't always so
- 1:15:39Speaker 6: free hour.
- 1:15:40Speaker 3: So for you, Due, it was really happy hour.
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: You were really I have to play, I know. Well,
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: Paul was like, look at this guy. What's I know
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: Andy was there with us too, He's like, what's wrong
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: with this guy?
- 1:15:49Speaker 3: I'm like, you guys didn't tell me it's free beer.
- 1:15:51Speaker 3: I mean, come on, this is like a big deal.
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: That's another great moment from.
- 1:15:57Speaker 6: All right back here on page sunfiltered a five to
- 1:15:59Speaker 6: five pass five hundred podcasts at patriot dot com as
- 1:16:02Speaker 6: the email address that kind of reminded me of I
- 1:16:05Speaker 6: don't know why, but yesterday I'm in the vending machine upstairs,
- 1:16:10Speaker 6: which I go often, and.
- 1:16:12Speaker 3: By the way, that vending machine owes me a lot
- 1:16:15Speaker 3: of money. But anyway, I got a.
- 1:16:17Speaker 6: Bag of kettle corn and I tweeted it out. I
- 1:16:19Speaker 6: got this big hunk of I don't know what in it.
- 1:16:22Speaker 6: Did you see my tweet yesterday?
- 1:16:24Speaker 3: It was gross.
- 1:16:25Speaker 6: I was going to bring it down, but I left
- 1:16:27Speaker 6: it on my desk last night and the cleaning people said,
- 1:16:29Speaker 6: we got to get rid of this, and they threw
- 1:16:30Speaker 6: it out.
- 1:16:31Speaker 3: But I took a picture of it, and I tweeted out,
- 1:16:34Speaker 3: I don't know what this thing. What it was like.
- 1:16:36Speaker 6: It looked like it looked like a sugary chicken McNugget.
- 1:16:41Speaker 3: That's what it looked like in the middle of a
- 1:16:43Speaker 3: bag of kettle corn.
- 1:16:44Speaker 4: All right.
- 1:16:44Speaker 3: Maybe it was like, did you see you.
- 1:16:46Speaker 6: Got to turn your mic on, Matt Learning.
- 1:16:54Speaker 4: It looks like pure brown sugar just clumped together.
- 1:16:56Speaker 2: Yeah, probably what it is from the kettle corn.
- 1:16:59Speaker 3: Yeah, but you know so.
- 1:17:01Speaker 6: Anyway, but that vending machine, besides that and things getting
- 1:17:05Speaker 6: hung up, and like.
- 1:17:07Speaker 3: It owes me a lot of money.
- 1:17:09Speaker 4: When it gets hung up, Just go and find tip
- 1:17:11Speaker 4: and he'll get it down to you.
- 1:17:13Speaker 3: We've all had to do that, get some that vending
- 1:17:15Speaker 3: machine anyway.
- 1:17:16Speaker 6: All right, So we got to talk about practice today,
- 1:17:18Speaker 6: talking about you know, other than a J. Brown wowing
- 1:17:22Speaker 6: everybody in his uniform, what else did we see?
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: Yeah, well we saw Morgan Moses leave. I thought that
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: was a big note, went into the what do we
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: call that place now? It's no longer Dante's Inferno, it's
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: whatever it is now. But he went into the walked
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: off under his own pen training area. Shortly after walked
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: towards the new Balance Athletics Center. So something the monitor
- 1:17:46Speaker 2: with him. I know they'll be careful with him. But again,
- 1:17:48Speaker 2: we talked about a lot then Caleb Blow, Who's getting
- 1:17:50Speaker 2: some more snaps, Marcus Bryant's getting some more snaps. But generally,
- 1:17:54Speaker 2: I think the the big pieces from attendance were roughly
- 1:17:57Speaker 2: the same. No Booty, no Kyle Dixon, Landrier Akis, Marcus.
- 1:18:02Speaker 5: Jones added kJ Britt, who I didn't want to say
- 1:18:05Speaker 5: anything last week because nobody else did. But I thought
- 1:18:08Speaker 5: I saw him leave practice early last week when we.
- 1:18:10Speaker 4: Were out there, Winston definitely limped off, and then when.
- 1:18:13Speaker 5: He wasn't out there this week. So there's some things
- 1:18:17Speaker 5: like that that are just bumps and bruises that are
- 1:18:19Speaker 5: starting to pop up. Not nothing like Julian Hill's injury,
- 1:18:22Speaker 5: but you know, bumps and bruises that we're starting to
- 1:18:25Speaker 5: see some guys that are more depth guys have to elevate.
- 1:18:28Speaker 3: I hate that.
- 1:18:29Speaker 4: Yeah, oh god, So that's my biggest concern with Julian Hill.
- 1:18:32Speaker 4: It's just like it seems like when these kinds of
- 1:18:34Speaker 4: things happen, it's come in. Yeah, it's bad, bad juju,
- 1:18:39Speaker 4: but we'll see. I mean, hopefully it's just a one
- 1:18:41Speaker 4: off the Giant.
- 1:18:43Speaker 3: I know.
- 1:18:44Speaker 4: The interesting thing to me on that offensive line situation,
- 1:18:47Speaker 4: Mike broke down the right tackle stuff. But you saw
- 1:18:50Speaker 4: Ben Brown today at left guard instead of rotating in
- 1:18:53Speaker 4: at center like you did last week. So they're going
- 1:18:56Speaker 4: to probably continue to mix and match and not on
- 1:19:00Speaker 4: the watchful. I have Doug Maroon because Mike Rabel told
- 1:19:03Speaker 4: us he's he's on the men getting me surgery.
- 1:19:05Speaker 5: Yeah, I would say the Ben Brown thing. I think
- 1:19:09Speaker 5: last week we might have been here on a center
- 1:19:11Speaker 5: day for Ben Brown, and then today we might have
- 1:19:13Speaker 5: been here on a guard day. So hopefully next week
- 1:19:15Speaker 5: when we see three practices in a row, like we
- 1:19:17Speaker 5: can see like where exactly he's working. But obviously they're
- 1:19:21Speaker 5: cross training him to back up all three interior spots
- 1:19:24Speaker 5: throughout the summer. So I don't think anybody thought that
- 1:19:28Speaker 5: Andrew Rupsich was going to start a game at left
- 1:19:30Speaker 5: guard if Ben Brown was healthy. Like I think we
- 1:19:32Speaker 5: all assumed that Ben Brown would fill in there if
- 1:19:36Speaker 5: somebody went down, like very Tucker or something. But those
- 1:19:39Speaker 5: two guys, Vera Tucker and Moses are on a program,
- 1:19:43Speaker 5: as they say, and we'll see, you know, a lot
- 1:19:46Speaker 5: of Caleb Blomu, a lot of crown over potentially Marcus Bryant,
- 1:19:50Speaker 5: you know, getting a lot of run here because of that.
- 1:19:53Speaker 6: So I think we should find a new sponsor. It's
- 1:19:56Speaker 6: for a segment called who cut your Eye? No, maybe
- 1:20:00Speaker 6: you know a warby Parker or something like that. But anyway, Oakley, like,
- 1:20:05Speaker 6: so who should we could do this in training camp?
- 1:20:08Speaker 6: Who caught your eye today in a good way?
- 1:20:10Speaker 3: Caught your eye?
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: Well other than a J.
- 1:20:12Speaker 4: Brown?
- 1:20:13Speaker 2: I well, you saw rare to make a catch, So
- 1:20:15Speaker 2: that was I mean, I've just been having my eye
- 1:20:16Speaker 2: on him.
- 1:20:17Speaker 4: I mean it's impossible for him not to catch your
- 1:20:19Speaker 4: eye because you don't stop watching that I do.
- 1:20:22Speaker 2: I have been waiting for him to do something. But
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: you know, to Evan's point talking about you know, Hunter
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: Henry maybe slowing down, like you know, is there perhaps
- 1:20:29Speaker 2: do you get in the point in the season where
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: Rareden's starting to come on and you feel like he
- 1:20:32Speaker 2: can be a guy who can stretch the field a
- 1:20:34Speaker 2: little bit for you. I mean, I think he has
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: a skill set that that could be helpful now that
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: Julian Hill's gotten hurt and you might thrust him. So,
- 1:20:42Speaker 2: I mean, he he catched my eye.
- 1:20:43Speaker 3: I'll continue to watch him and when Akus shows up
- 1:20:45Speaker 3: then I'll probably I'll be watching him.
- 1:20:47Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't think it's been a The quarterbacks haven't
- 1:20:50Speaker 5: done him any huge favors, but there's been some catch
- 1:20:53Speaker 5: point bobbles thing going on with Rawdan where it's not
- 1:20:56Speaker 5: always clean. So maybe something to work on with him.
- 1:20:59Speaker 5: But we were talking by Regie Ilium in the break
- 1:21:01Speaker 5: about just how athletic he looks and not doesn't look
- 1:21:04Speaker 5: like the James Devlin Yakub Johnson type of fullback. And
- 1:21:09Speaker 5: when you watch, like they'll do drills where they're running
- 1:21:12Speaker 5: routes on air where the tight ends and full backs
- 1:21:14Speaker 5: will go run seams and stuff like that with the quarterbacks,
- 1:21:17Speaker 5: and like he looks a lot more like a tight
- 1:21:19Speaker 5: end when he opens up his strides, and he looks
- 1:21:21Speaker 5: like a full back, like you know, a Brock Lampi
- 1:21:23Speaker 5: or Jack Westover. So I just maybe his athleticism is
- 1:21:28Speaker 5: something that they can unlock a little bit more of
- 1:21:29Speaker 5: than what Buffalo did. And he just I like his gait.
- 1:21:33Speaker 5: I think he got smooth, longer strides.
- 1:21:35Speaker 6: It just looks more like a killing your eye caught
- 1:21:37Speaker 6: your eye pull to Mario Douglas.
- 1:21:39Speaker 4: Okay, but I think both last week and even more
- 1:21:42Speaker 4: so this week, I thought he was pretty active. Now,
- 1:21:46Speaker 4: in fairness, we've seen this before from to Mario Douglas
- 1:21:50Speaker 4: in practice, both in training camp with pads without pads.
- 1:21:54Speaker 4: He's quick, he's elusive, and I think at times he,
- 1:21:59Speaker 4: you know, is operating at a speed that's a little
- 1:22:01Speaker 4: bit faster than you know a lot of the other
- 1:22:04Speaker 4: guys are. But I thought he was a frequent target
- 1:22:07Speaker 4: today From Drake may I thought he made one really
- 1:22:10Speaker 4: nice uh, kind of like a deep over that he
- 1:22:13Speaker 4: caught and then he immediately stopped on a diamonds like that.
- 1:22:16Speaker 4: Aaron Hernandez cutback and he just made a guy I
- 1:22:18Speaker 4: don't remember which defense okay, just put him on his
- 1:22:23Speaker 4: on his back side and waltzed into the end zone.
- 1:22:26Speaker 4: Reminder came down. Nice little celebration between those two. But tomorrow,
- 1:22:30Speaker 4: Douglas to me, was active in this practice today.
- 1:22:32Speaker 5: It's interesting to see that both those slot guys like Douglas,
- 1:22:36Speaker 5: I feel like flashes with the ones, and then Chishlm
- 1:22:38Speaker 5: is like a machine with the twos. And I think
- 1:22:40Speaker 5: both of them are different but play similar spots. And
- 1:22:44Speaker 5: it's the offense maybe a little bit too. But Chism
- 1:22:47Speaker 5: I think has been like Tommy DeVito's guy. In the
- 1:22:50Speaker 5: two practices that we've seen. He's got like four or
- 1:22:51Speaker 5: five passes from the Vito and you just wonder if, like,
- 1:22:55Speaker 5: you know, it's one thing to dominate twos, but you
- 1:22:57Speaker 5: got it in this league, you got to be able
- 1:22:58Speaker 5: to dominate one, and you know, can he get to
- 1:23:01Speaker 5: that level to really make a push here where he's
- 1:23:03Speaker 5: doing it against Gonzales and Davis and Marcus Jones and
- 1:23:07Speaker 5: those guys.
- 1:23:08Speaker 4: One quick thing on Douglas too, because I want to,
- 1:23:10Speaker 4: you know, kind of stay the whole picture. There was
- 1:23:13Speaker 4: a play later in practice. I think it looked like
- 1:23:16Speaker 4: he was trying to go over the middle. Drake May
- 1:23:18Speaker 4: was trying to go and throws a little high and
- 1:23:21Speaker 4: it was that kind of thing where we talk about
- 1:23:23Speaker 4: the catch radius with him. It went off his hands,
- 1:23:25Speaker 4: wasn't a drop, the throw was was off target. But
- 1:23:29Speaker 4: I think that that's part of it. If there, in
- 1:23:31Speaker 4: fact is a thing that Drake May doesn't love throwing
- 1:23:34Speaker 4: guy's with small catch radius. It was on display on
- 1:23:37Speaker 4: a play like that.
- 1:23:37Speaker 2: Another neck and neck race too with him, Oh, Kyle
- 1:23:39Speaker 2: Williams before practically.
- 1:23:41Speaker 4: He seemed to like have some fun.
- 1:23:43Speaker 6: I think, I who caught my eye and I know
- 1:23:45Speaker 6: he doesn't have a shot to make the team.
- 1:23:47Speaker 4: Jimmy Kibble quick feet.
- 1:23:51Speaker 6: Very quick, thank you. That's exactly what caught my eyes.
- 1:23:54Speaker 6: The quick twitch. Yeah yeah, and not just his feet,
- 1:23:58Speaker 6: his hands too.
- 1:23:59Speaker 5: Yeah, he's got They were doing those cone drills where
- 1:24:01Speaker 5: they were all going through and he other than just
- 1:24:04Speaker 5: me talking at AJ Brown, that was the one guy
- 1:24:07Speaker 5: that stood out to me too going through those drills,
- 1:24:09Speaker 5: Like obviously, I know Pop's got quick feet too, and
- 1:24:11Speaker 5: you know Chisholm's got pretty quick feet, but he looked
- 1:24:14Speaker 5: like the best to me through that those types of
- 1:24:16Speaker 5: drills are in practice, So that caught my eye.
- 1:24:18Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:24:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I've been watching Buyer two a little bit, just
- 1:24:20Speaker 2: I mean, really interesting player. Hard to know with him
- 1:24:24Speaker 2: early on these kind of settings, what kind of impact
- 1:24:27Speaker 2: he's gonna make, but it just looks like him and
- 1:24:29Speaker 2: Craig Woodson.
- 1:24:29Speaker 3: Are going to be the dynamic deal back there.
- 1:24:31Speaker 5: Yeah, Mike Brown's the one other safety that is there,
- 1:24:35Speaker 5: more there than you know. When they signed him, was
- 1:24:37Speaker 5: in this wave of signings and he was kind of
- 1:24:39Speaker 5: lost in the shuffle, but his potential kind of reminds
- 1:24:43Speaker 5: me a little bit of when they signed Jalen Hawkins,
- 1:24:45Speaker 5: where it's like another guy that's played some snaps in
- 1:24:48Speaker 5: the NFL when he's with Tennessee but wasn't like a
- 1:24:51Speaker 5: full time player yet and then comes here and sort
- 1:24:53Speaker 5: of carves out that role. He's been playing a lot
- 1:24:55Speaker 5: of as the third safety, playing some big nickel, some
- 1:24:58Speaker 5: in the slot, some in the.
- 1:24:59Speaker 2: Back end, personal protector too. Yeah, just moving around a lot.
- 1:25:02Speaker 2: I think he's got a chance. That's something I kind
- 1:25:04Speaker 2: of watched too. Is just like the special teams periods too.
- 1:25:06Speaker 2: If you just you know, I try to just take
- 1:25:08Speaker 2: note of who are like the you know, when you
- 1:25:10Speaker 2: can identify the upper groups, who are the lower level
- 1:25:12Speaker 2: guys that are getting snaps on special teams, it gives
- 1:25:14Speaker 2: you maybe an idea.
- 1:25:15Speaker 6: Yeah, all right, calls and emails are flying in. Thank
- 1:25:20Speaker 6: you for everyone, because I know, big time change.
- 1:25:22Speaker 3: Usually we're at noon.
- 1:25:23Speaker 6: We started two thirty two and a half hours later,
- 1:25:25Speaker 6: but people are still here, so I appreciate it.
- 1:25:28Speaker 3: Let's go to Rhode Island. Booker is on the line.
- 1:25:32Speaker 3: What's up, Booker, Booker?
- 1:25:36Speaker 5: Oh you had to go back to class.
- 1:25:41Speaker 2: Hey Booker Booker, you're from the draft right, we met
- 1:25:43Speaker 2: you at the draft party?
- 1:25:44Speaker 21: Right?
- 1:25:45Speaker 14: Yep?
- 1:25:46Speaker 2: All right, thanks for calling in.
- 1:25:49Speaker 23: I was wondering on we should draft guy in the
- 1:25:54Speaker 23: first round as a wide receiver and develop him by
- 1:25:57Speaker 23: an a J. Brown to those four years J Brown
- 1:26:00Speaker 23: going playing as their number one.
- 1:26:04Speaker 5: You said, draft a wide receiver?
- 1:26:06Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:26:06Speaker 5: Next year?
- 1:26:07Speaker 4: Next year? Yeah?
- 1:26:09Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean it depends on what. Like you know,
- 1:26:12Speaker 5: Mike Reese, I thought asked a question about A J.
- 1:26:14Speaker 5: Brown's contract that veryble kind of danced around.
- 1:26:17Speaker 3: That contract is something.
- 1:26:18Speaker 5: Yeah, it's one of the more ridiculously creative contracts that
- 1:26:22Speaker 5: I've ever seen, Like the void years and bonuses, so
- 1:26:26Speaker 5: like how much you know runway to because right now
- 1:26:29Speaker 5: you have Dobbs and A J. Brown signed for three
- 1:26:31Speaker 5: or four years each, So you feel pretty good about
- 1:26:34Speaker 5: those two guys being here for multiple years. But you know,
- 1:26:37Speaker 5: we talked about the third spot earlier. Is that an option?
- 1:26:40Speaker 5: And how long is Brown truly going to be here
- 1:26:42Speaker 5: for the book?
- 1:26:43Speaker 6: Are you saying that next year you draft a wide
- 1:26:46Speaker 6: receiver and then you trade Brown for a first round
- 1:26:48Speaker 6: pick and recoup that first round pick.
- 1:26:50Speaker 3: Is that what you're saying?
- 1:26:52Speaker 23: No, No, I'm saying we developed a wide receiver behind
- 1:26:55Speaker 23: A J.
- 1:26:55Speaker 4: Brown.
- 1:26:56Speaker 3: Oh okay, we either trade him away or just him go.
- 1:27:01Speaker 4: Okay, yeah he wants he wants the draft one on
- 1:27:03Speaker 4: our own and develop n AJ Brown.
- 1:27:06Speaker 3: Through the draft. That you would love to do that.
- 1:27:08Speaker 4: To sort of replace AJ Brown when the time comes
- 1:27:11Speaker 4: to move on. I don't know.
- 1:27:12Speaker 6: I hope, I hope we're so good though next year,
- 1:27:14Speaker 6: Booker that we can't. We don't have an opportunity to
- 1:27:17Speaker 6: draft a wide receiver in the draft.
- 1:27:19Speaker 3: That's that good.
- 1:27:20Speaker 2: Yeah, It's got me some Edges Booker next year, right,
- 1:27:23Speaker 2: most of the draft party, get your guy.
- 1:27:26Speaker 4: Justin Jefferson, you were on that.
- 1:27:29Speaker 5: Yeah, the AJ Brown contract. Honestly, I went down a
- 1:27:33Speaker 5: whole rabbit hole with it.
- 1:27:34Speaker 4: It was just like it's just like an option bonus
- 1:27:37Speaker 4: that if they decline it immediately guarantees his contract. Like
- 1:27:41Speaker 4: it's really weird.
- 1:27:42Speaker 5: So yeah, they have it has every year has an
- 1:27:45Speaker 5: option bonus into it. And then they have baked and
- 1:27:48Speaker 5: void years as well that stretch four years after the
- 1:27:51Speaker 5: contract expires in twenty thirty or the twenty twenty nine season,
- 1:27:56Speaker 5: and then if you let the contract void in thirty
- 1:28:00Speaker 5: has a fifty two million dollar cap hit and he's
- 1:28:04Speaker 5: not even on your team. Like it's a it's a
- 1:28:08Speaker 5: This is like a time bomb that Howie Roseman just
- 1:28:11Speaker 5: sent to the Patriots is.
- 1:28:12Speaker 4: Like it's absolutely bananas.
- 1:28:14Speaker 5: I had to read like three different articles by like
- 1:28:16Speaker 5: cap expert people like you know Pat's cap type.
- 1:28:19Speaker 3: This is how they do deals? Is this something special
- 1:28:22Speaker 3: with it?
- 1:28:22Speaker 5: It's part of It's part of how they they They're
- 1:28:26Speaker 5: a big void year team. Uh, because they're you know,
- 1:28:29Speaker 5: they're owners willing to shell out the money to kick
- 1:28:32Speaker 5: the Cans down the road. But this one in particular,
- 1:28:35Speaker 5: because of the options in the contract. It adds a
- 1:28:37Speaker 5: whole other layer. But the short term of it is
- 1:28:41Speaker 5: that the Patriots are really not on the hook for
- 1:28:43Speaker 5: all that much money for aj Brown over the next
- 1:28:45Speaker 5: two years. He only has four million dollars in guaranteed
- 1:28:47Speaker 5: money in twenty twenty seven.
- 1:28:49Speaker 4: So that's a little deceiving. He's going to get twenty
- 1:28:52Speaker 4: nine million because they're right, but not from the Patriots. No. Yes, yes,
- 1:28:57Speaker 4: he's got an option bonus. If they don't pick it up,
- 1:29:00Speaker 4: then it I'm just telling you I did the same
- 1:29:03Speaker 4: thing with somebody who knows this stuff. They're gonna have
- 1:29:06Speaker 4: to pay him good money this year this year, yes.
- 1:29:10Speaker 5: If they yeah, but if they if they next year
- 1:29:13Speaker 5: they don't, they can move on from him next year.
- 1:29:16Speaker 4: I thought you said this year. Now, this year he's
- 1:29:17Speaker 4: on a million. I think it's twenty nine million. It's
- 1:29:20Speaker 4: twenty eight seven five or something.
- 1:29:22Speaker 5: Yeah, next year, like twenty twenty seven, they could kind
- 1:29:25Speaker 5: of walk away for very minimal I.
- 1:29:27Speaker 4: Thought you meant this year. No, But I just think
- 1:29:29Speaker 4: that A J.
- 1:29:30Speaker 5: Brown, just to finish the point, like I, I would
- 1:29:32Speaker 5: imagine that he wants more security than what this contract is.
- 1:29:36Speaker 4: He's going to redo that contract, probably after this maybe
- 1:29:39Speaker 4: even sooner, maybe probably after this year.
- 1:29:41Speaker 5: I agree.
- 1:29:42Speaker 3: Uh, Willeman is in film?
- 1:29:43Speaker 4: What's up?
- 1:29:44Speaker 3: William?
- 1:29:44Speaker 4: Oh, come on, William, you gotta be happy.
- 1:29:46Speaker 2: Yeah, William happy?
- 1:29:50Speaker 24: We did now Christmas in May, June, June. I am
- 1:29:56Speaker 24: oh Man right now, but so, oh.
- 1:30:00Speaker 2: My god, I'm happy for you, William because you you've
- 1:30:04Speaker 2: been starving for this and.
- 1:30:06Speaker 24: Add Man, you just don't understand, man, you could not.
- 1:30:11Speaker 2: I can't believe this is my Oh.
- 1:30:14Speaker 24: I just want to say I'm glad we got him,
- 1:30:17Speaker 24: definitely like that. But I just just hearing the story
- 1:30:21Speaker 24: of him, like you know, he wanted to be drafted
- 1:30:23Speaker 24: and he cried and witness closet. I just I want
- 1:30:26Speaker 24: him to know that the past fan we want him,
- 1:30:28Speaker 24: and we could have got he wanted to play with
- 1:30:31Speaker 24: Brady Julian and oh my and Grunk. That would have
- 1:30:34Speaker 24: been lord m.
- 1:30:36Speaker 13: Oh yeah yeah yeah, how about that?
- 1:30:41Speaker 19: Right?
- 1:30:42Speaker 24: Yeah?
- 1:30:43Speaker 4: But I did extra money.
- 1:30:46Speaker 24: You know, other than with Drake may too and us
- 1:30:48Speaker 24: drafting Christian Gunzalas. I mean, I'm I'm happy. I'm fine.
- 1:30:52Speaker 4: That's good.
- 1:30:53Speaker 3: I love it.
- 1:30:55Speaker 24: Take care of this all.
- 1:30:56Speaker 3: Right, thanks William.
- 1:30:57Speaker 5: That's the first time I think William has been love.
- 1:31:01Speaker 2: He did the same thing he did in the like
- 1:31:02Speaker 2: usually calls and he slowly works himself into like.
- 1:31:05Speaker 4: A labashion, you know, like you just gets all right,
- 1:31:07Speaker 4: I just need it.
- 1:31:07Speaker 2: But he did the off this time.
- 1:31:08Speaker 4: You got it.
- 1:31:09Speaker 5: You gotta tell me, man, like, what are we doing?
- 1:31:12Speaker 2: Guys? I just like you.
- 1:31:14Speaker 3: I just don't know.
- 1:31:15Speaker 4: It's like, yeah, I don't know, guy, I need I needed.
- 1:31:21Speaker 5: That's how you know it was a good train.
- 1:31:23Speaker 3: Tommy's in Long Island. What's up Tommy?
- 1:31:26Speaker 4: Hey? What's up?
- 1:31:27Speaker 3: Guys?
- 1:31:29Speaker 9: All right?
- 1:31:31Speaker 4: Right?
- 1:31:31Speaker 3: Oh h.
- 1:31:33Speaker 21: On the topic of A. J. Brown, strictly based on
- 1:31:37Speaker 21: the new editions this year and how we did last
- 1:31:41Speaker 21: year with the assets that we had, do you think
- 1:31:45Speaker 21: will improved, stay the same.
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: Or do worse?
- 1:31:50Speaker 4: Like on offense?
- 1:31:52Speaker 6: What are we talking about like as as record wise,
- 1:31:54Speaker 6: what are you talking about.
- 1:31:56Speaker 21: Like as a team like with the new editions, like A. J.
- 1:31:59Speaker 21: Brown wrote Dog Kevin Bayers, I.
- 1:32:02Speaker 3: Think the offense is going to be better.
- 1:32:04Speaker 6: I don't know if they're going to be fourteen and
- 1:32:05Speaker 6: three though, right, So if that's what you mean, could
- 1:32:08Speaker 6: they be worse, Yeah, they could be, record wise, but
- 1:32:11Speaker 6: they might be a better whole team as a whole.
- 1:32:15Speaker 4: I really think that roster wise, it's pretty similar. It's
- 1:32:19Speaker 4: that they changed a lot of pieces, but I think
- 1:32:22Speaker 4: in a lot of cases they swapped out similar guys
- 1:32:25Speaker 4: for similar guys. Now, if the guys that they picked
- 1:32:28Speaker 4: to move on from are better, then you have a
- 1:32:30Speaker 4: chance to be better. If they're worse, you're gonna be worse.
- 1:32:33Speaker 4: But I agree with Fred, you might be better, Like
- 1:32:35Speaker 4: Kevin Bayern might be better. He is better than Jalen Hawkins.
- 1:32:38Speaker 4: I'm I think it's fair to see. But if he's better,
- 1:32:45Speaker 4: like you, still might not have a better record than
- 1:32:47Speaker 4: fourteen and three. Like you, and you could hit on
- 1:32:49Speaker 4: all of those guys and still not be better than
- 1:32:51Speaker 4: fourteen and three. That's a special record.
- 1:32:54Speaker 5: I think the hope is is that they're better when
- 1:32:57Speaker 5: it matters, right, Like, if they might not be a
- 1:32:59Speaker 5: better a record team in the regular season, but when
- 1:33:02Speaker 5: the playoffs roll around next year, is the offense and
- 1:33:05Speaker 5: Drake may better, And then can they win the Super
- 1:33:07Speaker 5: Bowl and I.
- 1:33:08Speaker 4: Would even argue if they got knocked out earlier in
- 1:33:10Speaker 4: the playoffs, they still could be better than they were
- 1:33:13Speaker 4: last right, absolutely, right, just get to the Yeah.
- 1:33:17Speaker 21: Like, I definitely see them winning the AFPs right now,
- 1:33:21Speaker 21: I have them going twelve and five.
- 1:33:25Speaker 4: Okay, and I could see that.
- 1:33:28Speaker 21: Yeah, I definitely think they have a chance to win
- 1:33:32Speaker 21: the division. But with Buffalo close on their tail.
- 1:33:36Speaker 4: Yeah, sure, I think that That's right.
- 1:33:39Speaker 6: Buffalo will make it interesting, don't em when if they
- 1:33:43Speaker 6: ever those two games?
- 1:33:44Speaker 3: All right? Thanks Tommy, Yeah, thanks Tommy.
- 1:33:48Speaker 6: Rodrigo writes in everyone in New England should be over
- 1:33:51Speaker 6: the moon for this trade. Patriots fans for years have
- 1:33:54Speaker 6: been complaining about Bill not being willing to trade for
- 1:33:56Speaker 6: these caliber players when they become available. The new regime
- 1:34:00Speaker 6: values high talent players and are actively looking to improve
- 1:34:03Speaker 6: the roster. Bill would have offered a cup of coffee
- 1:34:06Speaker 6: and tickets.
- 1:34:06Speaker 3: To REVS games for AJ Brown. Who cares what they
- 1:34:09Speaker 3: gave up?
- 1:34:09Speaker 6: This is the cost for getting talented players, and that
- 1:34:13Speaker 6: makes day that make day one impacts. Regarding the contract,
- 1:34:17Speaker 6: I do not see the reason why he needs to
- 1:34:19Speaker 6: be restructured or have to take a pay cut. His
- 1:34:21Speaker 6: cap numbers are very very low and reasonable, if anything,
- 1:34:24Speaker 6: take a cut, if anything, front load the contract and
- 1:34:27Speaker 6: go pay Gonzo.
- 1:34:28Speaker 5: So it has nothing to do with the cap pits.
- 1:34:31Speaker 5: It's about the cash out to AJ Brown. So like
- 1:34:34Speaker 5: he has no real guarantees beyond this year in his
- 1:34:38Speaker 5: current structure, so I think he is going to want
- 1:34:41Speaker 5: more security, not the Patriots. The Patriots the cap pits
- 1:34:45Speaker 5: because of the trade and the dead money on the contract.
- 1:34:48Speaker 5: The capts are very digestible for the Patriots, but for
- 1:34:51Speaker 5: AJ Brown, Like, do you want to play the season
- 1:34:53Speaker 5: and then only have four million dollars of guaranteed money
- 1:34:56Speaker 5: unless they pick up your bonus going into next season
- 1:34:59Speaker 5: and then they get to decide whether or not they
- 1:35:01Speaker 5: give you the rest of the money. You know, if
- 1:35:03Speaker 5: I was him, I would say, you know, let's rip
- 1:35:06Speaker 5: this thing up and let's.
- 1:35:07Speaker 3: One last thing. A. J.
- 1:35:08Speaker 6: Brown's numbers received receptions in yards were very similar to Diggs,
- 1:35:13Speaker 6: but Diggs had much less targets. Eagles were a middle
- 1:35:16Speaker 6: of the pack ranked passing offense. Patriots were number one
- 1:35:19Speaker 6: or at least top five. I believe AJ Brown is
- 1:35:22Speaker 6: in for a career year in this offense with Drake
- 1:35:25Speaker 6: and Josh running the offense.
- 1:35:27Speaker 4: I don't think he's in for a career year. I
- 1:35:29Speaker 4: don't think he's topping like fifteen sixteen hundred yards that
- 1:35:34Speaker 4: his career year is pretty good.
- 1:35:36Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, but I still think there's an immense use
- 1:35:39Speaker 2: for him, you know, in this offense, even if he's
- 1:35:40Speaker 2: not quite the same player that he was, and you know,
- 1:35:43Speaker 2: and obviously he had with the premise of all of
- 1:35:46Speaker 2: these Yeah, for what you're saying, Mike, Yeah, And that's
- 1:35:49Speaker 2: and it's just even as exciting as the thought of
- 1:35:52Speaker 2: Josh using him, it's just enjoying the player, you know
- 1:35:55Speaker 2: that the the way he plays like, it's just that's
- 1:35:57Speaker 2: how they want to play, you know. You want a
- 1:35:59Speaker 2: guy who he plays with effort and finish as a receiver,
- 1:36:02Speaker 2: you know.
- 1:36:02Speaker 3: And I think that's what just stands out.
- 1:36:04Speaker 2: And like I said, maybe he's not running away from
- 1:36:06Speaker 2: guys like he maybe once.
- 1:36:08Speaker 3: Did, but man, he's going to be a nightmare just
- 1:36:10Speaker 3: to bring down.
- 1:36:11Speaker 6: Daniel writes in just seeing a j Brown in that
- 1:36:14Speaker 6: uniform today and seeing how the trade went down.
- 1:36:17Speaker 3: When is the next Forge in Foxboro coming out? Because
- 1:36:20Speaker 3: we need it.
- 1:36:21Speaker 2: Well, they were here early this morning.
- 1:36:22Speaker 3: I guess this summer.
- 1:36:24Speaker 5: I know I woke up to that to him already
- 1:36:27Speaker 5: in the hill ding.
- 1:36:28Speaker 2: Somebody had to be somebody had.
- 1:36:31Speaker 6: Jake and Melbourne. I'm sure if I missed it. But
- 1:36:33Speaker 6: is there a video that takes you on a walk
- 1:36:35Speaker 6: through of the new facility. Well, the new facility hasn't
- 1:36:38Speaker 6: had its official ribbon cutting actually, so there's still like
- 1:36:42Speaker 6: working on some of the esthetics inside, like you know,
- 1:36:45Speaker 6: the artwork and logo. So I think once that's done,
- 1:36:49Speaker 6: when it's the way they wanted to look, that's when
- 1:36:52Speaker 6: they'll do the video walk through.
- 1:36:53Speaker 2: It's a tough fight for seating in there, me and
- 1:36:55Speaker 2: Pauli and Oh in the media work.
- 1:36:57Speaker 3: Yeah, well you were in there, Freddie.
- 1:36:59Speaker 2: You saw it's a I mean, I don't know if
- 1:37:00Speaker 2: that's just we've been here and there's been some news
- 1:37:02Speaker 2: and so you're a little bit more full when there's
- 1:37:04Speaker 2: some news. Even when we came after practice and then
- 1:37:07Speaker 2: like the first three rows are all with like just
- 1:37:08Speaker 2: people editing.
- 1:37:09Speaker 6: Well, nobody cares about the media Warner. I'll tell you
- 1:37:12Speaker 6: the rest of the building spacious, it really is.
- 1:37:15Speaker 3: It's spacious a lot.
- 1:37:16Speaker 5: There's a lot of changes for the media Fred with
- 1:37:18Speaker 5: this this new facility.
- 1:37:20Speaker 2: A lot of changes.
- 1:37:23Speaker 5: Well I told you I don't know if this was
- 1:37:24Speaker 5: on the air, off the air, about how the players
- 1:37:26Speaker 5: now enter the training camp practice fields is different.
- 1:37:30Speaker 2: Up the backside.
- 1:37:31Speaker 5: Now they go up the backside instead of going up
- 1:37:33Speaker 5: the stairs in the front. And so normally when they
- 1:37:37Speaker 5: walk onto the field, the media like lines it like,
- 1:37:40Speaker 5: you know, almost like a wedding, right, like we welcome
- 1:37:42Speaker 5: everybody in. But now they're going on the backside, and
- 1:37:46Speaker 5: you can't. You don't want to go back there because
- 1:37:48Speaker 5: that's that's their space.
- 1:37:49Speaker 4: I thought they were.
- 1:37:50Speaker 3: Going to come on the practice field through the weight room.
- 1:37:52Speaker 5: No, they do, but then they come up through the
- 1:37:54Speaker 5: back hill, like the hill to get the upper practices,
- 1:37:58Speaker 5: which is where they're going to have training.
- 1:38:00Speaker 4: God yeah, because I would think you need two fields
- 1:38:02Speaker 4: with ninety players.
- 1:38:03Speaker 5: Got so, so the entrance is now you know, normally
- 1:38:06Speaker 5: you get the videos of the pictures of.
- 1:38:08Speaker 3: Americas whatever, get better lenses.
- 1:38:11Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a problem the media workroom, you know something.
- 1:38:15Speaker 3: So a lot of grumble grumble grouse today.
- 1:38:17Speaker 5: I will admit that the A. J. Brown entrance, the A. J.
- 1:38:21Speaker 5: Brown entrance to practice coming up the back of the
- 1:38:25Speaker 5: in the hill was a little bit of a problem.
- 1:38:27Speaker 4: It was a bit of a cluster.
- 1:38:28Speaker 5: It was a bit of a club.
- 1:38:29Speaker 4: I was shooting between the fence.
- 1:38:32Speaker 6: I was wondering if we'd hear from him, And here
- 1:38:34Speaker 6: he is, Eldred in North Carolina?
- 1:38:36Speaker 3: What's up? Eldred?
- 1:38:38Speaker 9: Any other times? The world's favorite podcast, not the oldest,
- 1:38:41Speaker 9: but the favorite.
- 1:38:42Speaker 4: You got it?
- 1:38:43Speaker 3: Whatever, the best? Yeah, what's that? What's happening?
- 1:38:47Speaker 9: I'm happy to Uh did y'all see that look in
- 1:38:49Speaker 9: his eye when he did that interview? Oh, I guess you'll.
- 1:38:54Speaker 9: I guess y'all was there and when he said you
- 1:38:56Speaker 9: will see to everybody asking him about his health and everything.
- 1:39:00Speaker 22: But I liked it.
- 1:39:02Speaker 9: I watched this other interview with Brooklyn at at seven
- 1:39:05Speaker 9: pm with that lady, and he got a Patriots carpet
- 1:39:10Speaker 9: saying welcome home in his man cave when you're playing
- 1:39:13Speaker 9: for Philly and you are ya? You all hear that?
- 1:39:16Speaker 3: I saw that Maria Taylor he was with yep.
- 1:39:19Speaker 9: Yeah, Maria care right. So I'm going thirteen and three.
- 1:39:22Speaker 3: Bread, Well, what happens to the seventeenth game?
- 1:39:25Speaker 4: We're gonna be so good?
- 1:39:28Speaker 3: Well, thirteen, but thirteen and four four.
- 1:39:32Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:39:33Speaker 9: And the other thing is, I hate have y'all seen
- 1:39:37Speaker 9: that Super Bowl prediction thing they got us tied for
- 1:39:39Speaker 9: during ninth? Buffalo is stuck it behind the Ram. I
- 1:39:43Speaker 9: just don't see it.
- 1:39:44Speaker 4: But Baltimore had the best.
- 1:39:48Speaker 9: Yeah, we're tied for ninth, ninth, ninth team doing?
- 1:39:51Speaker 3: When did that come out?
- 1:39:52Speaker 9: But Buffalo and the Rams, uh.
- 1:39:54Speaker 3: Yesterday after the trade.
- 1:39:58Speaker 9: A especially when the Rams got Garrett. Garrett definitely shot up, okay, And.
- 1:40:07Speaker 4: I I don't have any issue with the Rams. The
- 1:40:10Speaker 4: Rams already had the best before they made that trade.
- 1:40:13Speaker 4: And Buffalo is a stretch. Yeah, Buffalo is a stretch.
- 1:40:16Speaker 4: And I've heard Baltimore had the best odds. I think
- 1:40:19Speaker 4: that's a stretch.
- 1:40:20Speaker 5: Yeah, Baltimore. I looked yesterday to see how much the
- 1:40:23Speaker 5: line moved after the A. J. Brown trade in the
- 1:40:25Speaker 5: Patriots favor, and right now I saw I think it
- 1:40:28Speaker 5: was DraftKings, was Baltimore, Buffalo and then the Patriots. And
- 1:40:33Speaker 5: I want to say the Chiefs are the Chargers had
- 1:40:36Speaker 5: equal odds.
- 1:40:38Speaker 3: Listen, we're in the Mets.
- 1:40:40Speaker 2: We're in the mess.
- 1:40:41Speaker 3: You know two three years ago we would be at
- 1:40:44Speaker 3: the bottom.
- 1:40:45Speaker 5: The Baltimore one surprised me too, Like.
- 1:40:47Speaker 4: Thanks, Eldred, I'm much more willing to say that Buffalo
- 1:40:51Speaker 4: can do it because they won twelve games and they
- 1:40:54Speaker 4: were the last year. I mean they were play away
- 1:40:56Speaker 4: in overtime from being in the AFC Championship game. Baltimore
- 1:40:58Speaker 4: didn't even make the playoffs.
- 1:41:00Speaker 5: Yeah, like Denver wasn't like I thought that, Like, yeah,
- 1:41:05Speaker 5: I think the role for me, but.
- 1:41:07Speaker 2: You're a bonus.
- 1:41:07Speaker 4: Guys. They're playing the role with the Patriots like they're
- 1:41:10Speaker 4: playing the disrespect because no one's talking about anything with Denver.
- 1:41:14Speaker 5: They traded for Jayalen Waddle and it's like it didn't happen, right,
- 1:41:17Speaker 5: real quick.
- 1:41:17Speaker 2: One thing we neglected to mention to Rabels saying officially
- 1:41:20Speaker 2: joint practice with the Colts, which would be kind of cool.
- 1:41:23Speaker 3: I did not know about that.
- 1:41:24Speaker 4: And he also said the Colts both, yeah, both teams
- 1:41:27Speaker 4: that we play in the preseason, and then.
- 1:41:29Speaker 2: One with the Colts according to him, I don't know,
- 1:41:31Speaker 2: Fred looks before this is true. I didn't say this,
- 1:41:35Speaker 2: and then two with the Eagles the next week. So
- 1:41:37Speaker 2: three joint practices here in Foxborough.
- 1:41:39Speaker 3: Come on down there, great Viking.
- 1:41:43Speaker 2: No, he was said something like we had great practice
- 1:41:45Speaker 2: last practice last year.
- 1:41:46Speaker 4: Okay, with the Hikings, I always liked the it's critical
- 1:41:49Speaker 4: to watch development.
- 1:41:50Speaker 5: I always liked the two practices better than the one
- 1:41:53Speaker 5: because then like you go, well, no, but then Harry,
- 1:41:59Speaker 5: like the first one happened, and maybe you do some
- 1:42:01Speaker 5: things that they're not expecting, and then they go in
- 1:42:03Speaker 5: and you kind of have like a day to a
- 1:42:05Speaker 5: night to prepare. Yeah, and so then the adjustments come
- 1:42:07Speaker 5: the second day.
- 1:42:08Speaker 2: And then all of a sudden you're canceling Mike Ribble's
- 1:42:10Speaker 2: birthday cake because you like it.
- 1:42:11Speaker 4: Didn't go well.
- 1:42:12Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah two years ago, and the egos and which
- 1:42:15Speaker 6: both get they sucked, you know last year.
- 1:42:19Speaker 4: But that was exactly how it was in Minnesota.
- 1:42:20Speaker 5: I think the Patriots the first day kind of took
- 1:42:22Speaker 5: the Vikings by surprise, and the Vikings were like, oh wow,
- 1:42:25Speaker 5: this is a this isn't a four and thirteen team anymore.
- 1:42:29Speaker 3: Day.
- 1:42:30Speaker 5: Yeah, And then the second day the Vikings kind of
- 1:42:32Speaker 5: took it to the Patriots, and there was.
- 1:42:34Speaker 3: Every day really preseason game.
- 1:42:35Speaker 4: Remember that, Oh the game he's talking about.
- 1:42:38Speaker 2: I didn't watch that.
- 1:42:39Speaker 5: That was great, dude, that week in Minnesota. That was
- 1:42:43Speaker 5: real football.
- 1:42:44Speaker 3: I did I did.
- 1:42:45Speaker 4: I did miss that game.
- 1:42:46Speaker 2: You didn't grind the film or anything.
- 1:42:47Speaker 5: That those two days in Minnesota.
- 1:42:48Speaker 4: That was.
- 1:42:49Speaker 5: That was good stuff. That was that was real football.
- 1:42:51Speaker 5: That was Diggs justin Jefferson, you know, strength on strain.
- 1:42:57Speaker 4: I was how did nine look?
- 1:42:59Speaker 9: Nine?
- 1:42:59Speaker 4: How did knowing look?
- 1:43:01Speaker 5: Day two?
- 1:43:02Speaker 4: He looked pretty good.
- 1:43:02Speaker 2: Some scrambles that got him, like they did a couple
- 1:43:05Speaker 2: of situational ones at the end of practice and he
- 1:43:07Speaker 2: like scrambled to get them like they could fourth down
- 1:43:09Speaker 2: I think, and he scrambled and got there.
- 1:43:10Speaker 4: There was a screen, remember through a screen that went.
- 1:43:12Speaker 5: For like forty yards exactly.
- 1:43:14Speaker 2: Yeah, that's when we started. That was the continuation of
- 1:43:17Speaker 2: you they can't give my screens all the time.
- 1:43:18Speaker 3: I mean that was Godfrey's in North Carolina. What's up?
- 1:43:22Speaker 3: Godfrey comedian?
- 1:43:24Speaker 24: Hey guys, long time listener, first time caller. Really happy
- 1:43:27Speaker 24: to be on.
- 1:43:29Speaker 4: Welcome, Thank you, thank you.
- 1:43:31Speaker 24: I had two quick things I wanted to mention with
- 1:43:34Speaker 24: aj Brown being on the team. Now, do you think
- 1:43:36Speaker 24: that's an opportunity for our.
- 1:43:38Speaker 20: Run game to open up?
- 1:43:39Speaker 9: And that's to see Drake take off more?
- 1:43:41Speaker 24: And two, what group on defense do you think it's
- 1:43:44Speaker 24: gonna step up this year like the DBS did last year.
- 1:43:48Speaker 3: Okay, so how does this affect the run game? AJ? Brown?
- 1:43:52Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:43:52Speaker 3: Thanks good.
- 1:43:53Speaker 5: I mean that's the fun chess match stuff.
- 1:43:54Speaker 3: You know.
- 1:43:55Speaker 5: Obviously, if you don't put a safety over a J.
- 1:43:58Speaker 5: Brown side of the field, and it's going to be
- 1:43:59Speaker 5: bombs AJ Brown. If you do put the safety and
- 1:44:02Speaker 5: you take a safety out of the box, well now
- 1:44:04Speaker 5: you're you're playing with a lighter box. So in theory,
- 1:44:07Speaker 5: you know, I think two years ago for the Eagles,
- 1:44:10Speaker 5: you know, Saquon ran for two thousand yards because everybody
- 1:44:13Speaker 5: was so worried about AJ Brown and DeVante Smith and
- 1:44:15Speaker 5: it opened the box up and they had a great
- 1:44:17Speaker 5: offensive line, great running back. I don't know if the
- 1:44:19Speaker 5: Patriots have that kind of potential, But in theory, like
- 1:44:22Speaker 5: whenever you have a guy on the outside like AJ Brown,
- 1:44:25Speaker 5: who if you only if you're single covering him without
- 1:44:28Speaker 5: the safety over the top is going to burn you,
- 1:44:30Speaker 5: then that changes the deck, you know, it moves.
- 1:44:33Speaker 6: How much of what you're talking about taking advantage of
- 1:44:37Speaker 6: that comes down to Drake May having the freedom at
- 1:44:40Speaker 6: the line of scrimmage to change in and out of
- 1:44:43Speaker 6: place and recognizing where the opportunity is.
- 1:44:46Speaker 5: Yeah, some some, but I think that defenses have really
- 1:44:49Speaker 5: wised up to that in the last couple of years,
- 1:44:51Speaker 5: and so they'll show you one look pre snap, and
- 1:44:53Speaker 5: then they'll rotate into another look post snap. So you
- 1:44:57Speaker 5: can kind of get caught sometimes doing that, like, oh,
- 1:45:00Speaker 5: you know, this is a too high shell, so we're
- 1:45:01Speaker 5: gonna check to a run play. Well wants a snap
- 1:45:04Speaker 5: ball snap now that safety's coming down, and now it's
- 1:45:06Speaker 5: not a too high shell. So there's a lot of
- 1:45:08Speaker 5: like cat and mouse that goes on with that. But
- 1:45:11Speaker 5: that's in theory. The idea is when you have a
- 1:45:13Speaker 5: guy that's dominant on the outside, they can they get
- 1:45:16Speaker 5: away with single covering him just with their top corner
- 1:45:20Speaker 5: or do they have to cloud the field and put
- 1:45:21Speaker 5: the safety over the top of him. And then if
- 1:45:23Speaker 5: they do that, then now all of a sudden, everybody
- 1:45:25Speaker 5: else has got room to eat, which is why they're valuables.
- 1:45:29Speaker 3: That's plus gillion too.
- 1:45:30Speaker 2: I mean, you know, aside from aj Brown just having
- 1:45:32Speaker 2: an actual fullback, you know who's done this, and I
- 1:45:35Speaker 2: mean last year Jack Westover kind of miscast. It might
- 1:45:38Speaker 2: be a smaller role, but I just think it gives
- 1:45:40Speaker 2: Josh McDaniels more options to you know, especially in the
- 1:45:42Speaker 2: run game.
- 1:45:43Speaker 6: Yeah, no, I'd love to, you know, have a true
- 1:45:47Speaker 6: twelve hundred yard Russia you know one either one of them,
- 1:45:51Speaker 6: I don't care who it is.
- 1:45:52Speaker 5: Yeah, we're going regular, going two backs in the backfield,
- 1:45:55Speaker 5: going aj Brown on one side. We're going Romeo dots
- 1:45:58Speaker 5: to the other side. And like how Howard defense is
- 1:46:01Speaker 5: going to react to you?
- 1:46:02Speaker 14: Now?
- 1:46:02Speaker 5: Are they going to put the single high safety because
- 1:46:03Speaker 5: they're worried about the full back and the running game?
- 1:46:06Speaker 5: Are they going to go one high safety and we're
- 1:46:09Speaker 5: going to go one high safety. We're going over the top.
- 1:46:13Speaker 5: Number one is down there somewhere right you know that?
- 1:46:15Speaker 3: Love it?
- 1:46:16Speaker 6: Uh, see you at the Super Bowl Shikari right Sin
- 1:46:18Speaker 6: he's from New Hampshire. How come you guys didn't talk
- 1:46:21Speaker 6: about the May softball game.
- 1:46:25Speaker 2: Paul was giving me the play by play, So I
- 1:46:27Speaker 2: just wanted to.
- 1:46:28Speaker 5: Say one thing about I was not there. Alex will
- 1:46:31Speaker 5: be there, will hopefully be on the show on Thursday.
- 1:46:33Speaker 5: She was definitely there. There was an incident involving Remondre
- 1:46:38Speaker 5: Stevenson where somebody took Hermandre Stevenson out on a slide.
- 1:46:42Speaker 5: I didn't want to name names, Fred, but just like
- 1:46:44Speaker 5: it's on video that that's our starting running back, dude,
- 1:46:46Speaker 5: like be careful, all right, I'm like really upset.
- 1:46:51Speaker 3: About that, Like one comes running over.
- 1:46:54Speaker 6: Please don't know that was scary, Like don't but that
- 1:46:59Speaker 6: was a really good turnout, you know, back in your quarterback.
- 1:47:03Speaker 2: Yeah, Able had good things to say about it. When
- 1:47:05Speaker 2: Sophie asked him about it. It was, I wonder, is
- 1:47:08Speaker 2: that gonna be a yearly thing? You think topic?
- 1:47:10Speaker 3: I hope, so, you hope.
- 1:47:11Speaker 5: So, Yeah, it seems like a good tirnly. I think
- 1:47:14Speaker 5: there was like ten thousand people there.
- 1:47:16Speaker 2: Got his brother Luke and like all of them both.
- 1:47:18Speaker 5: But I thought it was nice that, you know, even
- 1:47:20Speaker 5: like Gonzo showed up and he's not.
- 1:47:22Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:47:23Speaker 2: The funniest thing of it all though, is everybody else.
- 1:47:25Speaker 2: I mean Fred, you know. Greg Badard is a big
- 1:47:27Speaker 2: softball fan. Like, he loves softball. He coaches softball in
- 1:47:30Speaker 2: high school. He loves the n ca A softball, slow pitch, well,
- 1:47:33Speaker 2: I think he's very crittic, coaches critical scouting eye.
- 1:47:37Speaker 3: He coaches fast pitch. Yeah, the girls girls high school softball.
- 1:47:41Speaker 2: But he's just like Men's very he's giving the full
- 1:47:44Speaker 2: scouting breakdown. I don't think he was a big fan
- 1:47:45Speaker 2: of Romeo Dobs in the outfield, so but I just
- 1:47:48Speaker 2: thought it.
- 1:47:48Speaker 4: Was fun, a terrific event. You're right, Fred, there was
- 1:47:51Speaker 4: like ten thousand people, you know, good amount of teammates
- 1:47:54Speaker 4: and Rabel you know, we're there to support Drake may
- 1:47:56Speaker 4: and and Michael the amount of And I have no
- 1:48:01Speaker 4: problem with all the media being there, Like I've been
- 1:48:03Speaker 4: at many of those. I've been at Harvard Stadium for
- 1:48:05Speaker 4: the best Buddies thing for Brady I was like five
- 1:48:07Speaker 4: years and like whatever, we all do what we gotta do, right.
- 1:48:11Speaker 4: The breathless reporting of the actual softball was maddening, Like
- 1:48:16Speaker 4: I don't care who's hitting the ball, like who, like,
- 1:48:20Speaker 4: like tell me what, like Marcus Jones talked, I think right.
- 1:48:24Speaker 4: Marcus Jones spoke after the event talking about Gonzo a
- 1:48:27Speaker 4: little bit like I'm you know, I'm interested in that.
- 1:48:29Speaker 4: You know what you know? Tell me by play? Oh
- 1:48:32Speaker 4: my god, like Mike's telling you like literally, And I
- 1:48:35Speaker 4: yelled at Greg I said to him today, I go,
- 1:48:38Speaker 4: what is your infatuation with Romeo Dodds's ability to track
- 1:48:41Speaker 4: fly balls like who cares? So terrific event at Polar
- 1:48:48Speaker 4: Park in Wister and great turnout. Yeah, and we'll get Yeah,
- 1:48:52Speaker 4: we'll get some more flavor I think from Alex on Thursday.
- 1:48:54Speaker 3: Yeah, he's in the middle. Jordan Wrights and people have
- 1:48:58Speaker 3: been speaking about A. J.
- 1:48:59Speaker 6: Brown, his attitude and how he forced himself out of Philly,
- 1:49:02Speaker 6: but not a lot of dialogue of how much he
- 1:49:04Speaker 6: loves and respects Rabel.
- 1:49:06Speaker 3: Really.
- 1:49:07Speaker 6: Uh, it's been documented that they that It's been documented
- 1:49:12Speaker 6: that they have kept in contact and talk about football
- 1:49:14Speaker 6: and life. I think if any coach in the league
- 1:49:16Speaker 6: demands his respect, it's Rabel And if any coach seems
- 1:49:20Speaker 6: like someone easy to hate, it would be Siriani. I
- 1:49:23Speaker 6: think the attitude from Brown will be completely different.
- 1:49:25Speaker 4: So what I thought was really funny is they asked
- 1:49:27Speaker 4: him what his first impressions were, A. Rabeling I didn't
- 1:49:30Speaker 4: like him. Yeah, he didn't like aj Brown didn't like
- 1:49:34Speaker 4: at first. Yeah, first Metal Tennessee. Yeah, which is very
- 1:49:37Speaker 4: common for a lot of players.
- 1:49:39Speaker 5: By the way, Yeah, I would have to say, like,
- 1:49:41Speaker 5: out of all the we we played the other side,
- 1:49:43Speaker 5: a little bit out of all the other side things.
- 1:49:46Speaker 5: His attitude and the way it ended in Philly is
- 1:49:50Speaker 5: so low on the list of things that I would
- 1:49:52Speaker 5: be concerned about with this move, Like I'd be much
- 1:49:55Speaker 5: more concerned about some of the things that you hear
- 1:49:57Speaker 5: about him physically or the decline in the production that
- 1:50:01Speaker 5: you see, like his sideline and not whatever, like his
- 1:50:05Speaker 5: body language. Like I don't know how that's even Like
- 1:50:08Speaker 5: this happens all the time, Like players get disgruntled, they
- 1:50:11Speaker 5: change teams, and they're happy.
- 1:50:16Speaker 4: So you got to hope that you get a full
- 1:50:18Speaker 4: year out of them before.
- 1:50:18Speaker 6: We've had a lot of those cases here, Moss and
- 1:50:24Speaker 6: it worked out.
- 1:50:25Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:50:26Speaker 5: It's just unlike to me, that's just so low on
- 1:50:28Speaker 5: the list of like why it will fail.
- 1:50:30Speaker 4: It's a wide receiver. Happens all the time.
- 1:50:34Speaker 3: Matt's in Wichita. What's up, Matt, Matt and Wichita.
- 1:50:40Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:50:41Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:50:42Speaker 9: I had a quick question about A. J.
- 1:50:44Speaker 20: Brown's draft value and how he is more valuable now
- 1:50:50Speaker 20: than like, say, if they wanted to wait to get
- 1:50:51Speaker 20: a better deal and then like maybe a week before
- 1:50:53Speaker 20: the season, they would only have to pay like a
- 1:50:56Speaker 20: second and a third. Is he worth getting the first
- 1:50:59Speaker 20: in the fifth out that way you have longer to
- 1:51:01Speaker 20: work with him or better to have waited long.
- 1:51:04Speaker 6: Well, I think there's no guarantee if you wait that
- 1:51:07Speaker 6: long that you're going to get him.
- 1:51:08Speaker 3: Maybe some other team swoops in.
- 1:51:10Speaker 4: And why why waiting that long? Does it lower the compensation?
- 1:51:13Speaker 6: Yeah, that was that was the point of Yeah, so
- 1:51:16Speaker 6: I think maybe it does. Maybe it doesn't, but you're
- 1:51:18Speaker 6: taking a risk if you wait that long. Plus what
- 1:51:21Speaker 6: you said, Matt getting it here now getting him, you know,
- 1:51:24Speaker 6: incorporated into the offense. I think there's a benefit to
- 1:51:27Speaker 6: that that maybe is worth a little bit more compensation.
- 1:51:31Speaker 5: I just wonder why what I thought, maybe what's the
- 1:51:33Speaker 5: premise that it would be less valuable a month from
- 1:51:36Speaker 5: now or two months from now versus today?
- 1:51:38Speaker 20: Like that that if they shopped him around a bit,
- 1:51:42Speaker 20: they would have probably realized that aj Brown really wanted
- 1:51:45Speaker 20: to be a Patriot, and like someone say, like Cleveland
- 1:51:47Speaker 20: wouldn't really want to bring him in because they're gonna
- 1:51:48Speaker 20: have the same problem Philly ahead.
- 1:51:50Speaker 4: Maybe you know, just I don't know, but he was
- 1:51:53Speaker 4: shopped around like the whole offseason.
- 1:51:55Speaker 6: I mean, there's a chance that if you wait, that
- 1:51:57Speaker 6: value goes up because another team's even more desperate.
- 1:52:00Speaker 5: Especially if somebody gets hurt or something and for.
- 1:52:02Speaker 4: That reason, especially a good team. Yeah, but the good
- 1:52:05Speaker 4: team lost a receiver, then all of a sudden they
- 1:52:07Speaker 4: might be more apt to give more.
- 1:52:09Speaker 5: I guess the reporting is that there was he had
- 1:52:12Speaker 5: a list of four teams that were preferred. The Patriots
- 1:52:16Speaker 5: were obviously Patriots, and the Bills we were one of them,
- 1:52:20Speaker 5: you know. Now, The reporting is the Patriots were his
- 1:52:22Speaker 5: number one choice, which damn straight I could believe given
- 1:52:25Speaker 5: his infatuation with the team and Vrabel. But it was
- 1:52:29Speaker 5: four teams that he had a short list that he
- 1:52:32Speaker 5: would go to. So I just think on all sides,
- 1:52:35Speaker 5: I don't know why the value would go down.
- 1:52:37Speaker 6: Yeah, they did taking a risk, Darius from Lewis, It's
- 1:52:41Speaker 6: not like waiting for tickets before an event, you know,
- 1:52:43Speaker 6: you wait until the last minute to But.
- 1:52:45Speaker 4: He had the answer to you know, Matt, like, there's
- 1:52:48Speaker 4: the value is you get them and you need them
- 1:52:50Speaker 4: in your system for as long as you can have.
- 1:52:51Speaker 6: Them in your Darius and Louisville, I just want to say, wow,
- 1:52:54Speaker 6: I had no clue we were getting a J.
- 1:52:56Speaker 3: Brown.
- 1:52:57Speaker 6: But seriously, I hope AJ doesn't get the number one
- 1:53:00Speaker 6: Jersey curse our players have had talking about the jersey number.
- 1:53:04Speaker 6: With Kaneil, Harry, Polk and Parker not doing a lot
- 1:53:08Speaker 6: with that number. It would be just a breath of
- 1:53:10Speaker 6: fresh air to see a wide receiver number one actually
- 1:53:13Speaker 6: do good. Also, do you guys see the interview with
- 1:53:16Speaker 6: Maria Taylor?
- 1:53:17Speaker 3: He did?
- 1:53:17Speaker 6: It was awesome and I got chills hearing him talk
- 1:53:20Speaker 6: about finally being a Patriot. It just feels good to
- 1:53:23Speaker 6: have somebody elite actually want to be here.
- 1:53:27Speaker 2: I guess you hope he cleanses the palette on number one,
- 1:53:29Speaker 2: like he's gonna you know, they picked nik Kill Harry.
- 1:53:32Speaker 2: Was Nikhil Harry the first like non kicking number one
- 1:53:35Speaker 2: or Cam Newton I guess would have been.
- 1:53:36Speaker 4: I don't even remember that nik Kill Harry war number one.
- 1:53:38Speaker 4: I thought he was fifteen started. Yeah, you switched, I
- 1:53:42Speaker 4: remember Parker.
- 1:53:43Speaker 6: So another thing like we were obviously for good reason,
- 1:53:46Speaker 6: focusing on the offense. But the other thing that just
- 1:53:50Speaker 6: caught my eye today and I know they should be
- 1:53:53Speaker 6: out there, but just seeing Milton Williams and Christian Barmore
- 1:53:57Speaker 6: out there, you know, like from the get go, and
- 1:54:00Speaker 6: the blood clots away behind bar Moore. Now hopefully in
- 1:54:04Speaker 6: Milton William's second year here is you know, he's one
- 1:54:07Speaker 6: of the defensive leaders, you know, just one of the
- 1:54:10Speaker 6: great moves that they made last year.
- 1:54:13Speaker 3: You can't underestimate that.
- 1:54:14Speaker 4: I would say that Milton Williams broke the trade yesterday. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:54:18Speaker 4: but the Batman. Yeah he put the Batman thang up there,
- 1:54:22Speaker 4: and I was like, oh, okay, I guess it's happened.
- 1:54:26Speaker 2: I just see like and just like, we've got a
- 1:54:29Speaker 2: lot of talent now.
- 1:54:31Speaker 5: I have a lot of respect on this team. Williams
- 1:54:34Speaker 5: showing up in the spring. I respect that out of
- 1:54:36Speaker 5: him because like, he's paid, he's won a Super Bowl,
- 1:54:39Speaker 5: he's made two others. Like he's the perfect kind of
- 1:54:42Speaker 5: guy that's like I'll see you in mandatory mini camp, right,
- 1:54:45Speaker 5: you know, and he's been here the whole timeusiness.
- 1:54:47Speaker 2: Yeah, it's funny you say that way of fred is.
- 1:54:49Speaker 2: I just I feel like, like my journey when I
- 1:54:51Speaker 2: started here in twenty nineteen, Brady was here, Stefan Gilmour
- 1:54:54Speaker 2: was getting ready to be his journey. He's had a journey,
- 1:54:57Speaker 2: getting ready to be defensive Player of the Year. There
- 1:54:59Speaker 2: was tons of they were coming off a Super Bowl
- 1:55:01Speaker 2: and then you know, twenty twenty twenty, you know, the
- 1:55:04Speaker 2: last few years you've just kind of seen the talent gone,
- 1:55:06Speaker 2: and then with Drake, with Gonzo, with those pieces starting
- 1:55:09Speaker 2: to stack up. Then you hit on some free agents,
- 1:55:11Speaker 2: not just you know, Mill Williams. To me, you can
- 1:55:13Speaker 2: hit on a free agent like Hunter Henry is really good,
- 1:55:16Speaker 2: you know, but this is another level of kind of dude.
- 1:55:19Speaker 2: That's a tone setter up front. I just it's he's
- 1:55:21Speaker 2: been a home run, and like you said, they're just
- 1:55:24Speaker 2: like the talent on the field is undeniable.
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:55:26Speaker 2: Last year was like all right, hey there's Stefan Diggs
- 1:55:28Speaker 2: and they're continuing to build around hopefully can keep doing it.
- 1:55:31Speaker 6: Yeah, so all right, let's get to some housekeeping here.
- 1:55:35Speaker 6: What time is Catch twenty two?
- 1:55:37Speaker 3: Tomorrow?
- 1:55:37Speaker 2: Tomorrow is a normal time as far as I know,
- 1:55:39Speaker 2: as something else has changed.
- 1:55:41Speaker 6: Okay, yeah, tomorrow's noon. Tomorrow, noon tomorrow. You're gonna make
- 1:55:44Speaker 6: sure he keeps his pants on.
- 1:55:46Speaker 2: I'm going to make sure he's put it back on.
- 1:55:48Speaker 2: No promises, okay, I can't promise anything. There might be
- 1:55:51Speaker 2: a softball doll.
- 1:55:52Speaker 3: Yeah, at least the desk is high enough so that.
- 1:55:54Speaker 5: He can't in turn with him today? What's that a
- 1:56:00Speaker 5: new sports ub interned with him today? Who is an outsider?
- 1:56:03Speaker 5: Can't be trusted? I'll tell you guys.
- 1:56:07Speaker 3: And then what time are we on Thursday?
- 1:56:09Speaker 4: I think twelve to two back to regular time.
- 1:56:11Speaker 3: Okay, twelve to two on Thursday.
- 1:56:13Speaker 4: Don't have next week next week we're going to have
- 1:56:15Speaker 4: to figure out.
- 1:56:16Speaker 6: So on Thursday we'll announce the schedule for next week
- 1:56:18Speaker 6: because I don't know what off the top of my
- 1:56:19Speaker 6: head even though I made it, so.
- 1:56:22Speaker 4: This is still room for some adjustments. Yeah, still wait
- 1:56:24Speaker 4: for you to get back to me.
- 1:56:26Speaker 6: All right, So cash twenty two tomorrow at noon. We'll
- 1:56:29Speaker 6: see you at noon on Thursday. We don't get to
- 1:56:32Speaker 6: see any more practices this.
