- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop and I am in the
- 0:31chicken coop today. Rain, rain, rain, rain and more
- 0:34rain. So we are inside and it's really
- 0:37actually nice in here with the sound on the metal roof.
- 0:40It's pretty cool. Anyway, today we are talking
- 0:43about how you define yourself. This is always a fascinating
- 0:47question to ask somebody, or even yourself for that matter.
- 0:51Because most of the time we don't think about defining
- 0:53ourselves. We just think about, you know,
- 0:56what we have to do and the chores of the day and what has
- 0:59to get done. And we rarely take the time to
- 1:01pause and say, wait, how do I define myself?
- 1:05Because we have so many different areas of ourselves.
- 1:09Most of us have relationships, whether we're children to
- 1:13somebody or we're parents to somebody or we're grandchildren
- 1:16to somebody. We're partners, we're wives,
- 1:19we're husbands, we're, you know, an employee, a business owner, a
- 1:26leader. All these different roles
- 1:29actually are used in the definitions of ourselves.
- 1:33But I'm not just talking about the big role portion of this.
- 1:36I'm talking about the humanness of you.
- 1:39How do you define the humanness of yourself?
- 1:42When you get down to it, the phrases I am, whatever that I am
- 1:46might be. I am creative.
- 1:48I am loving. I am, you know, abundant.
- 1:53How do you think of yourself? How do you define yourself?
- 1:57And typically this isn't something that anyone teaches
- 2:01you. This isn't something that you
- 2:03sit there in school and you say, OK, I'm going to figure out how
- 2:06now, how I define myself. What happens?
- 2:09It is it comes out in the moments I am frustrated, I am
- 2:13sad, I am overwhelmed. We use that phrase so readily
- 2:18when it comes to certain things, but not typically the healthy
- 2:22things. It usually shows up with the
- 2:25unhealthy aspects of stuff and before you know it, we're in a
- 2:30place where we are actually really like embedding this into
- 2:35our subconscious that this is who we are.
- 2:37I, I am broke, I am out of money.
- 2:41I am whatever language you want to use on it.
- 2:44Lots of times this shows up with money.
- 2:46So it's important to pay attention to that piece because
- 2:49it's a very sensitive spot, as you've heard me mention before.
- 2:52But this I am phrase tends to show up in the negatives and you
- 3:00know, I am out of I'm out of ideas.
- 3:04I'm starving. I love that one when people say
- 3:07that I'm starving, I'm not starving.
- 3:09We're hungry. It's that simple.
- 3:11But we always over exaggerate and then we put ourselves in
- 3:14this place of lack. And once you start that, again,
- 3:18the phrase I am, many teachers will talk about the fact,
- 3:22especially, especially if you're in in, you know, religious
- 3:25teachers or spiritual teachers. The I am phrase is the closest
- 3:31phrase that you can use to the holy ground, if you will,
- 3:36because it's talking directly and at to whatever you might
- 3:40believe, to God, to the universe, and it speaks to how
- 3:44you view yourself in the world. So when you start using it and
- 3:47you use it haphazardly, it is a dangerous, dangerous pond of
- 3:53thin ice, my friends. So the first step in this is
- 3:57asking yourself, well, how do I define myself?
- 4:00Grab a piece of paper, sit down and start to ask yourself, well,
- 4:04what else? What are the other things you
- 4:06you'll start? You'll get a few off that your
- 4:08head right away, like was when I start mine, one of the very
- 4:10first things that comes up for me is I'm creative.
- 4:13It's part of my identity that I developed early on in my life.
- 4:16And I am very, very blessed that I had a grandmother who really,
- 4:21like poured into that part of me and talked about it all the
- 4:24time. Any time I drew something for
- 4:26her or any time I painted something, she would always say,
- 4:29oh, my gosh, you're so creative. You're so creative, you're so
- 4:32creative. So I believed her.
- 4:35And it was fortunate for me that she was putting in something
- 4:38really wonderful because very easily she could have been
- 4:41putting in something not so wonderful, you know?
- 4:44And that happens all the time. You know, it happens all the
- 4:47time where somebody doesn't realize what they're doing, you
- 4:51know, and boom, before you know it, what their view of you
- 4:55becomes your belief and your I am's.
- 4:58But when you sit down and you start asking the question, who
- 5:02am I? How do you define yourself
- 5:04across the board? I am organized.
- 5:07I am full of love, I'm kind, I share readily with my friends.
- 5:13These definitions are the road map to defining yourself, yes,
- 5:22but redefining yourself really. So if there are things on there
- 5:26that you don't feel are accurate about yourself, when you look
- 5:31back at the list and you say, well, you know, I, I, I am like,
- 5:36especially around the negative ones.
- 5:37If you look back and you say, well, this is here, but I don't
- 5:40want this to be here. You can redefine this, but
- 5:42you've got to be honest with yourself when you start to write
- 5:45the list. So the first thing you're going
- 5:48to notice is you'll come up with a few right away and they may be
- 5:52positive, they may be negative, they may be a mix, mix, mix of
- 5:55both. But it's not important that you
- 5:58sit there and say, OK, these are negative, these are positive.
- 6:02What's important is that you nail the list down and get that
- 6:05first wave, then there'll be a second wave.
- 6:08So I suggest what you do is you kind of keep it out.
- 6:11That's really loud right now because he's right above my
- 6:13head. You get you.
- 6:15The second list will show up or the second part of the list, and
- 6:19it will flow out of you over the course, typically of 24 to 48
- 6:24hours, where you'll start to get more and more clarity.
- 6:27You'll have more and more things that pour out of you.
- 6:29You'll have a thought and write it down.
- 6:31You'll have a thought and write it down.
- 6:32So some people find that doing this on paper with a pencil is
- 6:35great. Some people will keep notes on
- 6:37their phone. But whatever.
- 6:39Whichever way you decide to do it, allow yourself enough time
- 6:42to get a full list of things and a full identity that you know
- 6:48you feel is pretty accurate of how you see yourself currently.
- 6:51Then you can go back and say, which ones of these do I want to
- 6:55keep and which ones of these do I want to reshape?
- 6:58And the reshaping process is simply taking those negatives,
- 7:03moving them off the list, or rewriting them, in other words.
- 7:07So if you think I'm poor, I'm broke.
- 7:10If that's on your list, a positive would be I'm abundant.
- 7:13I have more than enough money. I'm a money magnet.
- 7:17You can start doing the flip the opposite.
- 7:19Will these feel right in the beginning?
- 7:22No, but this is part of the re identification that you're going
- 7:25through the redefining, if you will.
- 7:27So you just have to be patient with yourself and start the
- 7:29process off. So right now, that's what you're
- 7:32going to focus on. That's what you're going to do.
- 7:33And I hope you guys have a fabulous day defining who am I?
- 7:38I'll see you guys tomorrow. Bye.
