- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the Coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good afternoon. I'm out here now with the girls
- 0:31getting everything organized because winter is coming big
- 0:34time tonight and we're going to see some really cold weather and
- 0:38you know it. It always amazes me how we can
- 0:41have these massive swings where we are and go from being, you
- 0:45know, T-shirt weather 2 days ago to now I, I feel like I live in
- 0:50Alaska even though I clearly do not.
- 0:53But the point is getting yourself aware of all the swings
- 0:58and being able to handle the swings.
- 1:00This just represents so much more in life.
- 1:03You know, if you can do it on simple things, it's easier to do
- 1:06it on harder things. So for me, this is always just a
- 1:09great reminder when I start to complain and moan and say, oh, I
- 1:12don't want it to be cold or whatever.
- 1:13It's just being able to handle the swings and when you when you
- 1:19look at yourself and you start to think about how you are
- 1:22processing swings when they happen, it gives you some very
- 1:25clear insight as to how you process other things.
- 1:29So really like for me, looking at the cold and sitting here
- 1:33and, and thinking about it because they've been talking
- 1:35about it for days. I recognize that I was like
- 1:37dreading it and I was watching it and I was getting more and
- 1:39more like, Oh no, Oh no. Even though what am I own
- 1:43knowing about? It's just cold weather.
- 1:44I have a roof over my head. I have heat.
- 1:47My animals are very well taken care of.
- 1:50They all have shelters, They all have stuff to be in.
- 1:53All the plants that are outside are capable of being outside.
- 1:58And there's nothing growing out here that's going to be ruined.
- 2:01I mean, potentially we could have some lose some of our
- 2:05citrus trees again, but you know what the the ones that are left
- 2:09are the ones that survived last year's miserable weather.
- 2:12So what am I dreading? What am I?
- 2:14What am I sitting there and putting into that framework of
- 2:18the dread and going, Oh no, Oh no.
- 2:21And not being able to swing and say, okay, here's what I have to
- 2:25do. The lessons that this farm
- 2:27consistently provides me are just astronomical.
- 2:31And as I was lying on the couch this afternoon, taking a break,
- 2:34watching a movie with my son, I was thinking about this.
- 2:37And I was like, Oh no, it's going to be so cold.
- 2:40But I have mittens, I have a hat, I have a jacket, I have
- 2:43boots. I have all the things I need to
- 2:46be OK. So instead of being in dread,
- 2:49I'm going to choose grateful. Instead of not being able to
- 2:52swing and feel happy about it, I'm going to feel happy that
- 2:56tonight when my girls go to bed, they're going to be all warm and
- 3:00toasty with full bellies from free ranging all day and eating
- 3:03all kinds of things, having their afternoon snack of stuff
- 3:06that I give them. And when they go to bed, they're
- 3:08going to be all tucked in and safe.
- 3:11I don't need to feel anything uncomfortable.
- 3:13And I think it's a great reminder to us all that in, in
- 3:18the world, out in the world, when we're out there all the
- 3:20time, what are we processing? What are we looking at?
- 3:23And are we looking at how blessed and how grateful we can
- 3:26be for how we can interpret something different as well as
- 3:31really hunker down in the fact that, guess what, we are OK, and
- 3:36this is just a little tiny inconvenience.
- 3:38This whether we're going to have for the next week is an
- 3:41inconvenience, but it's not the end of the world.
- 3:44And there's nothing that I need to panic about.
- 3:47There's nothing that I need to dread.
- 3:49And controlling that mind shatter is essential to feeling
- 3:53good overall in life. So I'm going to come out here
- 3:58where I am right now, collect eggs, go inside, make some
- 4:01banana bread, sit down and realize that oh wow, you know
- 4:06what? Maybe even light a fire in the
- 4:07fireplace and plan on the fact that it's going to be a great
- 4:12day tomorrow. And you know what?
- 4:14It doesn't matter if it's cold. It doesn't matter about any of
- 4:17that. What matters is what I believe
- 4:19about it. So I'm going to change my
- 4:21belief. I'm going to actually probably
- 4:22even order some seeds and sit there and plan out stuff for
- 4:25when it's much warmer because that always lightens it up.
- 4:28So I hope you guys find something to you that you can
- 4:32dig into and help it when the swings come around so that you
- 4:35don't just let them take you out.
- 4:37All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 4:39will see you tomorrow. Bye.
