- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset, coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy. Into the.
- 0:21World. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way, hey?
- 0:27Everybody good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30It's been raining. Can we just talk about the rain?
- 0:33So the rain has been relentless. It has been non-stop day after
- 0:38day. It does rain every day but not
- 0:42all day. But when it rains it rains like
- 0:44enough for quite some time. So we went from having a, what
- 0:52they would consider a, you know, drought, severe drought.
- 0:57I don't know if it was severe in my opinion, but they said we
- 0:59were in a drought, we were in a burn ban.
- 1:01We had all these different things happening.
- 1:03And now we have an abundance of rain.
- 1:06And it is, well, it's wonderful for so many things.
- 1:11And I'm not complaining about the rain.
- 1:13What I'm saying is it presents challenges and in the garden and
- 1:17in growing things, flowers, whatever vegetables, it is
- 1:22always a challenge when you have this much rain because things
- 1:27are getting beaten up, things are getting inconsistent water,
- 1:30which lots of times they don't like.
- 1:32Like tomatoes, which are my most fun thing to grow and I look
- 1:35forward to the most because I live for the BLTS and the tomato
- 1:39jam. And here's the deal.
- 1:42Right now, right this minute, I have some plants that are doing
- 1:46exceedingly well and all of this and some that are not meaning
- 1:51tomato plants. And it's always a challenge for
- 1:55me to walk in there and be like, OK, what do I do?
- 2:00Because it's so frustrating when you know there's not a lot you
- 2:05can do about it when it's this far down.
- 2:07Now this week, heat is supposed to kick in.
- 2:09And then when the heat kicks in, a lot of them will just stop
- 2:12fruiting. When it gets to a certain point,
- 2:14they won't necessarily die, but they get to a certain point and
- 2:17they won't stop fruiting. I mean, they won't fruit and and
- 2:20they just won't produce anymore. So now is where I have to get
- 2:25into a different headspace. I'm going to be able to harvest
- 2:28what I can before anything splits.
- 2:31I do have some that are ready to go, so I'm excited about that.
- 2:34We'll see where it goes. But this is one of the lessons
- 2:38that I absolutely have such AI have.
- 2:42I have a love hate relationship with it because I love the
- 2:46challenge of being able to go out there and see what I can
- 2:49make happen. And I hate the fact that I don't
- 2:52know what my guarantees are. So it is a love hate
- 2:55relationship with my garden and it and it's just true.
- 2:59I would be lying if I said it was anything but that.
- 3:03I hate the fact that when I'm working in the spring, I'm
- 3:05probably bitten up like crazy by these little tiny noseums and
- 3:12aggravates me to no end. And I love the fact that it's
- 3:16cool that I can work and I can get out there.
- 3:19You know, I mean, everything has the duality.
- 3:24And this is nothing different. Right now, I stand here and I'm
- 3:29in the chicken coop run, and I'm looking over at the garden.
- 3:31The girls are eating breakfast. Sun hasn't come up yet.
- 3:34I'm already sweating like crazy because the humidity is so high.
- 3:38I'm going to go over there. I'm going to pull some tomatoes
- 3:40out, pull some cucumbers out and I'm going to say, OK, this is
- 3:46this is the work I have to do. Now in observation, which are
- 3:50the types of tomatoes that are doing really well with all of
- 3:53this because I might as well stick to things that work.
- 3:58Why would I keep trying different ones?
- 4:00Well, because that's me. I keep trying different ones.
- 4:03I'm not allowed to get disappointed.
- 4:05If I keep trying different things and they don't work, I'm
- 4:07not allowed to get disappointed. What I am is allowed to get
- 4:10observant and say, OK, this one worked.
- 4:13This one didn't. This one was good, this one
- 4:14wasn't. Don't need to get myself
- 4:17irritated. All I have to do is stay
- 4:18observant. And that's what I have to keep
- 4:20reminding myself because irritated is not far behind on
- 4:23my bus. Trust me and my certainty.
- 4:26Girl's like, why do we do this? Why do we do this?
- 4:30And it's, it's just part of the fun.
- 4:35I'm air quoting and what the what the challenge is and it's
- 4:39so cool to say is it fun? Yes.
- 4:43Is it? Is it driving me crazy?
- 4:44Yes. Two things can be true at the
- 4:47same time. Multiple things can be true at
- 4:49the same time, my friends. So what's important to remember
- 4:52is we are going to be observant. Go in there, do what we can,
- 4:57write it all down, plan it out. And it's a great lesson in how
- 5:00to manage your emotions through something.
- 5:03Because boy, I'll tell you what, this is all about managing my
- 5:07emotions at in every single way I possibly can.
- 5:11This is about managing my emotions.
- 5:13So I hope you guys learn something.
- 5:16From my struggles. With this and I hope you have a
- 5:19blessed day and I'll see you tomorrow.
- 5:21Bye.
