- 0:18Speaker 1: Turn to Glory podcast December second, not off season yet.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Thank god we did not stop the podcast after our
- 0:30Speaker 2: return to Glory after Wisconsin.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, or do we begin it's seven two?
- 0:41Speaker 3: Any more?
- 0:42Speaker 1: News broke yet Monday evening. There's a lot to get to.
- 0:48Speaker 1: So I'm actually still finishing eating good podcast on tenth.
- 0:55Speaker 1: That's it. I know how I feel about Nebraska football
- 0:57Speaker 1: right now. I just don't. I don't really know what's
- 1:00Speaker 1: going on.
- 1:02Speaker 2: To the freaking game Hunter. That's the problem.
- 1:04Speaker 1: I think one of the first podcasts I don't really
- 1:06Speaker 1: have notes on either, just just gonna speak everything as
- 1:15Speaker 1: it is. We are.
- 1:18Speaker 4: I was worried you we're gonna come back. There was
- 1:21Speaker 4: zero text messages after, during, or before the Iowa game
- 1:24Speaker 4: from you, Like I it zero Dirk dirty until the
- 1:27Speaker 4: day or yesterday, I guess when we were like, let's
- 1:29Speaker 4: wait till Monday, and pretty much what I.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Was I thought. I thought the one picture said I'm sad.
- 1:38Speaker 3: I wasn't gonna say a name to either of you.
- 1:40Speaker 3: I was like, I'll just let you guys live in
- 1:41Speaker 3: the moment.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Just suffer only for a bit.
- 1:46Speaker 1: It's like, how do you heard someone say how do
- 1:49Speaker 1: you prepare yourself for a game to happen like that,
- 1:51Speaker 1: And I'm like, well, you just use the last six years.
- 1:56Speaker 2: I mean, did you see that crazy stat of like
- 1:59Speaker 2: the last score games time led Like, I'll pull it up.
- 2:06Speaker 2: We can keep talking about Iowa. Let me find this.
- 2:09Speaker 5: Mh uh.
- 2:13Speaker 1: I don't even want to talk about Iowa. I really don't.
- 2:17Speaker 1: But the emotions, I will say, have been all over
- 2:22Speaker 1: the place. That's what we're gonna kind of do. We're gonna,
- 2:25Speaker 1: we're gonna, we're gonna go through. We're gonna talk about
- 2:28Speaker 1: our feelings here. We're gonna get a little bit sappy.
- 2:31Speaker 1: We're gonna Dak might end up crying, shedding a couple
- 2:34Speaker 1: of tears. Friday, I'll start, I'll start. We'll start from Friday.
- 2:43Speaker 1: We got got a timeline here, so Friday I have
- 2:47Speaker 1: a city, but Friday got up six a m. Left
- 2:53Speaker 1: by six a m. Iowa city pretty neat like area,
- 3:00Speaker 1: bar area, downtown area, like fairly impressed, college town, had
- 3:07Speaker 1: a lot of fun. I will say. Leading up to
- 3:10Speaker 1: the game, I'm gonna stop there.
- 3:15Speaker 6: I was excited for that, Dak. How was your game
- 3:18Speaker 6: day Friday experience? Pre game, pre game pretty good, watched
- 3:25Speaker 6: the Gophers win. Good been then the Chiefs game, and
- 3:29Speaker 6: then yeah, watched a watched a great Huskar game.
- 3:33Speaker 3: We'll say that.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Okay, actually said before the game, we're not going to
- 3:38Speaker 1: the game yet.
- 3:39Speaker 3: Before the game, that's all. I did watch football before.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Before the game. I'm trying to remember.
- 3:47Speaker 4: It was the volleyball game before the game or after
- 3:49Speaker 4: the game. It all kind of players.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Right, got over right about kickoff.
- 3:53Speaker 4: It was before, so yes, so I did watch that before.
- 3:58Speaker 4: Woke up Friday morning, I went.
- 4:03Speaker 2: I did a line dancing class.
- 4:07Speaker 4: I was taught by some Polish gal in Norfolk, Nebraska
- 4:11Speaker 4: with my family, so that was entertaining. Learned the Cupid shuffle.
- 4:17Speaker 4: I saw Wicked, which was good, enjoyable film, and then
- 4:21Speaker 4: I watched Nebraska lose to Penn State. Not a great game.
- 4:27Speaker 4: Took till the fourth set for us to kind of
- 4:29Speaker 4: figure out what to do defensively against their Penn State system.
- 4:35Speaker 2: So it was pretty bummed after the Penn State lost
- 4:38Speaker 2: and me whipped over to the Iowa game so real.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Quick, I'll get my volleyball pitch. And I actually did
- 4:44Speaker 1: not even know we lost until like like three am.
- 4:50Speaker 1: I did watch a little bit of the first like
- 4:51Speaker 1: set or two. So yeah, I really didn't know it
- 4:55Speaker 1: was on. Let's just say the drinks were flowing, so yeah.
- 5:02Speaker 1: And then Mollywall goes on Beach Maryland on Saturday night,
- 5:06Speaker 1: and then we are now in the regional one seed.
- 5:11Speaker 1: But with Wisconsin.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Ye what a bad Nebraska sports weekend.
- 5:16Speaker 4: I was gonna say that overall Nebraska's sadness, but the
- 5:20Speaker 4: Penn State sadness it wasn't too low, Like I didn't
- 5:23Speaker 4: feel good, but it was like, Okay, I'm gonna watch that.
- 5:26Speaker 2: I'm gonna watch the football game.
- 5:27Speaker 4: Immediately switching over, like we saw a chance to win
- 5:29Speaker 4: the Big Ten championship for volleyball and then freaking last
- 5:32Speaker 4: night we get put in the same practice Wisconsin. I
- 5:35Speaker 4: was like, man, it cannot That was a real rough weekend.
- 5:37Speaker 4: And then Monday happened, which we're getting too. But so
- 5:42Speaker 4: pre game, here we go, We're going to the game.
- 5:47Speaker 4: We had a just a disaster getting to the game,
- 5:49Speaker 4: but we got there.
- 5:51Speaker 1: And when we got there, the game Kentnick Stadium. It
- 5:54Speaker 1: actually does remind me of a lot of Memorial Stadium. Besides,
- 5:57Speaker 1: it's just crap, like the audios crap. The concourse area's crap.
- 6:04Speaker 1: The bathrooms lines, they're just horrible. But be size wise
- 6:10Speaker 1: what it felt like like in the stadium, it kind
- 6:12Speaker 1: of felt like Memorial but just it just sucked. Iowa fans,
- 6:22Speaker 1: I don't even know how I want to talk about them.
- 6:24Speaker 1: They really weren't that bad. I'll be honest, But it's
- 6:28Speaker 1: like after the game. It's like, I'll be honest, I
- 6:30Speaker 1: I wait, that's after the game. Gotta stay in the game,
- 6:33Speaker 1: in the game, in the game, in the game. We
- 6:38Speaker 1: it was awesome, like it was fun, like we were
- 6:39Speaker 1: playing we and this is this is my game analysis.
- 6:42Speaker 1: I don't really want to talk about it all because
- 6:44Speaker 1: we have a lot to get to. But we played
- 6:46Speaker 1: better than them for ninety ninety five percent of the game.
- 6:49Speaker 1: We were the better I bore than nine I mean
- 6:52Speaker 1: five first downs. So Iowa wins the game. We all
- 6:56Speaker 1: know what happened. They don't need to explain how they won.
- 6:58Speaker 1: We had a stabs five first down was over ten
- 7:00Speaker 1: on third downs. Iowa have won the way in like
- 7:05Speaker 1: an extreme fashion of how Iowa beats everybody, but especially Nebraska,
- 7:10Speaker 1: and it just was an extreme version of it where
- 7:12Speaker 1: it was very clear that we played better. But what
- 7:15Speaker 1: happens is Iowa waits till we fuck up, waits till
- 7:20Speaker 1: we fuck up, and guess what happened. We did and
- 7:24Speaker 1: we lose thirteen to ten.
- 7:25Speaker 4: Here's here's the Here's the thing I was looking for
- 7:28Speaker 4: in the last four games against Iowa Nebraska that the
- 7:32Speaker 4: time Nebraska has led in the game is one hundred
- 7:34Speaker 4: and thirty eight minutes Iowa's twenty five. The amount of
- 7:38Speaker 4: time Nebraska has led in the fourth quarter is twenty
- 7:40Speaker 4: three minutes to Iowa's three. And we've lost three of
- 7:45Speaker 4: those games.
- 7:46Speaker 1: The four that was Stu Manji, right, Yes, I like
- 7:50Speaker 1: Stu Monji's a great follow by the way on Twitter,
- 7:52Speaker 1: Go go go follow him. He's he always has like
- 7:55Speaker 1: really good numbers and stats and like opinions and thoughts
- 7:58Speaker 1: that are like, oh my gosh it and yeah, so
- 8:02Speaker 1: like game wise, it was a blast, like we were
- 8:06Speaker 1: winning the game. I have a Snapchat video of me,
- 8:08Speaker 1: like we win by punting, We're gonna be dial by punting.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Like I like it was great. We were we were
- 8:14Speaker 1: doing everything so well in the second that we missed
- 8:18Speaker 1: the field goal because of a bad snap and all
- 8:20Speaker 1: that and I was like.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Uh oh, no.
- 8:25Speaker 1: But still I was like, uh oh, but I'm like,
- 8:27Speaker 1: Iowa literally hasn't done anything like at all. They still
- 8:30Speaker 1: they literally have not done nothing the whole game at all.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Anything on offense. They could not move the ball. It
- 8:35Speaker 1: was laughable. Like the first two drives, I was like
- 8:39Speaker 1: calling out what play they were running? Talk about being predictable,
- 8:44Speaker 1: missfield goal. I'll go four plays miss field goal. Obviously
- 8:50Speaker 1: the seventy two yard house or two yard pass that
- 8:55Speaker 1: I that you want to break that play down, But
- 8:57Speaker 1: we've defended it well, we just didn't tackle, like we
- 9:01Speaker 1: missed three tackles, like so, I guess you could say
- 9:03Speaker 1: that's poor, poor, poorly defendive. But we were in position,
- 9:07Speaker 1: and you know, you can you can see the potential
- 9:09Speaker 1: penalties that people are also complaining about, which is whatever
- 9:12Speaker 1: I don't get. We still could have tackled the guy
- 9:14Speaker 1: with the guys that didn't get held or blocked in
- 9:16Speaker 1: the back either. Obviously. Then we have the punt not
- 9:21Speaker 1: really a muff pump, but the fumbled punt ish thing
- 9:24Speaker 1: that happened that led to a field goal. Like after that,
- 9:27Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, guy, here they go. They're gonna score, No,
- 9:29Speaker 1: our defense actually held them. And then obviously the Dylan
- 9:33Speaker 1: Royola fumble whatever happened there at the end of the
- 9:36Speaker 1: game led to another feel cool and that was the game.
- 9:42Speaker 5: That was it.
- 9:43Speaker 1: We played better than them all but those four plays,
- 9:46Speaker 1: and boy oh boy for the emotions on like cloud
- 9:52Speaker 1: nine because I'm like, this is great, We're gonna do this.
- 9:54Speaker 1: And then the second Royola fumbled it when I was
- 9:57Speaker 1: like kind of teetering on it, I sat down in
- 9:59Speaker 1: the stands, which, by the way, we didn't sit the
- 10:01Speaker 1: whole game. We did not sit the whole game. We stood.
- 10:04Speaker 1: It was awesome. I think people were cold, but we
- 10:06Speaker 1: stood the whole game. I sat down and I did
- 10:09Speaker 1: not watch any of the final until our team was
- 10:11Speaker 1: off the field. I literally sat there because I'm like, well,
- 10:14Speaker 1: we lost, and we did a speechless like just it's whatever.
- 10:20Speaker 1: I guess. I can't say I'm surprised because we've seen
- 10:23Speaker 1: it before. But it was like how well we played
- 10:26Speaker 1: the entire game, Like how much better we were than
- 10:29Speaker 1: them at every aspect of the game, besides the four plays,
- 10:32Speaker 1: extreme Iowa fashion. That was the game for me. So
- 10:36Speaker 1: it was like one of the greatest road environments I've
- 10:38Speaker 1: been on trips I've been on, including part of the
- 10:41Speaker 1: game Indiana was great this year too, But including the
- 10:44Speaker 1: game Indiana, there was no part of the game that
- 10:47Speaker 1: was enjoyable.
- 10:48Speaker 4: If you always watch all your road trips, you watches
- 10:50Speaker 4: get our Asses kicked.
- 10:51Speaker 1: I do. And then on the way home, like I'm
- 10:53Speaker 1: used to writing home lost and I was even expecting
- 10:55Speaker 1: it this time, but this one, Oh my gosh, the
- 10:59Speaker 1: I had for the entire trip home and I did.
- 11:03Speaker 1: I put my hood over my head and tried to
- 11:04Speaker 1: sleep and I couldn't really sleep. Was sad, Like that
- 11:07Speaker 1: was the only words that could come out of my
- 11:09Speaker 1: mouth as how sad it was. It was I'm just sad.
- 11:12Speaker 1: This is sad. That was my emotions. Like that's where
- 11:15Speaker 1: I was at. I didn't want to talk to anybody.
- 11:17Speaker 1: We stopped for gas to go take a peed break.
- 11:19Speaker 1: I'm just like, nope, I'm not moving.
- 11:22Speaker 2: What about after the game?
- 11:24Speaker 1: Great? So yeah, that's that. That was my next thing.
- 11:27Speaker 1: I I was just sad. I walked out in Iowa.
- 11:30Speaker 1: Fans were very humble, you know, They're like, yeah, at
- 11:32Speaker 1: least you guys made a Bowl game this year, Like
- 11:34Speaker 1: we believe that you guys, you know moving. I had
- 11:36Speaker 1: my arm around an Iowa fan walking down to the
- 11:38Speaker 1: stadium and back to the car for about three minutes,
- 11:41Speaker 1: talking about like he was trying to comfort me. I again,
- 11:44Speaker 1: I wasn't mad. I was like I was. I was like,
- 11:49Speaker 1: it's sad, and everybody, like Iowa fans were laughing kind
- 11:53Speaker 1: of like they're like, oh my god, like they knew
- 11:55Speaker 1: how bad they played. They knew they they know this
- 12:00Speaker 1: is from a team that does this traditionally, like they
- 12:03Speaker 1: know they do this every year, but this was like
- 12:05Speaker 1: extreme fashion of how it happens, and they knew it
- 12:09Speaker 1: was an extreme fashion, and it's like it's laughable. Kirk
- 12:12Speaker 1: Farns was just laughing at how this game went. He's
- 12:14Speaker 1: laughing about it. And Oscar Ranger, I don't even know,
- 12:19Speaker 1: like people just I don't even say we were mad.
- 12:20Speaker 1: It was just like, oh my god, that I get
- 12:24Speaker 1: this just happened. Ah, so sad.
- 12:28Speaker 2: So yeah.
- 12:28Speaker 4: I guess watching at home similar emotion where it's like
- 12:34Speaker 4: I was watching it with my family and we weren't
- 12:35Speaker 4: like angry, We're like I can't believe this freaking It
- 12:39Speaker 4: was just like oh, man, on top of the Penn states,
- 12:44Speaker 4: it's like, man, this blows like and I will say
- 12:48Speaker 4: part of that like when we got the ball back
- 12:52Speaker 4: and there was I literally had this knock starm and
- 12:55Speaker 4: being like, well, this is a different feeling. I was like,
- 12:57Speaker 4: at least we won't lose in regulation this year because
- 13:00Speaker 4: I felt that good about us not fucking it up.
- 13:03Speaker 4: I was like, you know what, like, even if we
- 13:06Speaker 4: don't score here, it's a tie game, we'll go to overtime.
- 13:09Speaker 4: Maybe we lose there, but I don't think we're gonna
- 13:11Speaker 4: lose right now. Well, sure is shit bumbleet and field
- 13:16Speaker 4: goal range. They can't move the ball at all, but
- 13:18Speaker 4: still happens to be at field goal range.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Go.
- 13:28Speaker 3: So during the game, I was at my uncle's house
- 13:32Speaker 3: and it was a party during the game, like we
- 13:34Speaker 3: all were just expecting. When there's ten nothing, I thought
- 13:37Speaker 3: it was completely over because, like you said, I was
- 13:39Speaker 3: not moving the ball at all. I did think though,
- 13:45Speaker 3: during the game, I thought the quarterback was one of
- 13:48Speaker 3: the better ones they've had against the basket a while.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Like, he didn't do anything. You didn't do anything either, No,
- 13:54Speaker 1: you said, you texted me that. I'm like, he didn't
- 13:56Speaker 1: do any He literally did nothing, like they did not
- 13:58Speaker 1: do anything on offensive like that one play. So I
- 14:02Speaker 1: guess he didn't turn it over, but I our quarterbacks
- 14:04Speaker 1: don't do that. Anyways, he didn't do anything.
- 14:06Speaker 3: No, and then and then you guys did shut down
- 14:09Speaker 3: their running back. But as soon as that pune play happened,
- 14:13Speaker 3: I was like, Okay, this is over, Like this is
- 14:16Speaker 3: you go exactly like Nebraska every time lose heartbreaking passion.
- 14:20Speaker 3: But but then, so I'm trying to think, was the
- 14:23Speaker 3: next drive so they tied it up? Was the next
- 14:26Speaker 3: drive after that where wherever I a little fumbled or was
- 14:28Speaker 3: there another drive after that? I can't I can't remember anyway. Anyway, right,
- 14:35Speaker 3: did you see the guy come around the corner? You
- 14:36Speaker 3: know it's gonna happen, rel it didn't see him coming.
- 14:39Speaker 3: He fumbled it. Ball game and on the TV. I
- 14:42Speaker 3: don't know about you, Austin, I couldn't tell that kick
- 14:44Speaker 3: went in.
- 14:46Speaker 2: I couldn't either. They had terrible camera.
- 14:48Speaker 3: It was over the crossbar.
- 14:51Speaker 2: I thought that they missed it. For a second. I
- 14:53Speaker 2: was like, oh my gosh, the football gods.
- 14:55Speaker 3: And they won't they won't show replay anything. They just
- 14:58Speaker 3: they just cut the end of the game.
- 14:59Speaker 2: It's like, and you knew that they got hit, it
- 15:01Speaker 2: was because the kicker went nuts.
- 15:03Speaker 3: Yeah, the king ring was basically over the crossbar. You
- 15:06Speaker 3: had no clue where if it went in or not.
- 15:10Speaker 3: I thought he missed it.
- 15:11Speaker 1: But I knew he made it and I didn't even
- 15:14Speaker 1: watch it.
- 15:15Speaker 5: Uh.
- 15:16Speaker 4: The quarterback play that Dak says really wasn't that bad
- 15:19Speaker 4: was eight for fifteen for one hundred and fifteen yards.
- 15:22Speaker 2: One good good of those yards seventy two came on
- 15:26Speaker 2: one play.
- 15:28Speaker 3: Through a helmet ball through.
- 15:31Speaker 1: I just that hole. Oh my god, he's great, But
- 15:35Speaker 1: it was guys. Iowa fans literally cheered for nothing the
- 15:39Speaker 1: whole game, Like I can't even explain it, Like I
- 15:44Speaker 1: did my first like I think it might be my
- 15:46Speaker 1: first ever, like really big loud. I led the go
- 15:49Speaker 1: Big Red chant and I heard my voice, but I'm
- 15:53Speaker 1: pretty sure I killed it. I I don't know that.
- 15:56Speaker 1: Someone told someone some Iowa fan turn round, he goes, man,
- 15:58Speaker 1: he goes, you actually killed that. I was like, thanks,
- 16:01Speaker 1: like it was it was great, like we were on
- 16:05Speaker 1: cloud nine and for the whole game replace happened. I
- 16:10Speaker 1: was just like, you're kidding me. So yeah, after the
- 16:12Speaker 1: game whatever it was sad. I was sad the whole time.
- 16:15Speaker 1: I was sad until we got home at five am.
- 16:18Speaker 1: It was a full twenty four hour trip and the
- 16:22Speaker 1: only word to summon up is sad.
- 16:24Speaker 3: Oh.
- 16:25Speaker 1: I guess the comments that were made about well, at
- 16:27Speaker 1: least we made a bowl game. I didn't care, like
- 16:30Speaker 1: we knew we made the bowl game.
- 16:32Speaker 3: And would sarcastic about it.
- 16:35Speaker 5: Though.
- 16:35Speaker 1: No, they were being genuine, like very genuine they were.
- 16:38Speaker 1: I I'll say Iowa fans were very respectful. Also the
- 16:43Speaker 1: bar that we were at. I guess another reason why
- 16:45Speaker 1: this was so fun. We went to Brothers, Iowa City,
- 16:49Speaker 1: and I'll bet you we had three hundred people in
- 16:52Speaker 1: there and two hundred and sixty of them were Nebraska fans.
- 16:57Speaker 1: I mean it was. It was great, and it was
- 17:00Speaker 1: hard to tell in the stadium because there were probably
- 17:01Speaker 1: a lot of Nebraska fans wearing black and it was
- 17:03Speaker 1: a blackout. I'm also mad at you for wearing black
- 17:05Speaker 1: if you were a Husker fan and you were black.
- 17:08Speaker 1: But yeah, that that was like the whole game day thing.
- 17:14Speaker 1: I just it sums it up any anything else in
- 17:17Speaker 1: the game.
- 17:18Speaker 2: No, it's tough. It was a tough. It was a
- 17:22Speaker 2: tough Friday. It's not not anything new though.
- 17:32Speaker 3: I did talk to some other people that went through
- 17:34Speaker 3: and they said they said the tail getting seems kind
- 17:36Speaker 3: of dead though in the state, Like the isle of
- 17:37Speaker 3: fans were not at all, like I.
- 17:39Speaker 2: Mean, it was black Friday and it was cold.
- 17:42Speaker 1: They weren't loud because they didn't do anything the whole game.
- 17:45Speaker 1: That's why they weren't loud. They literally had nothing to
- 17:48Speaker 1: cheer about.
- 17:49Speaker 4: The second reading rusher in the nation average two point
- 17:52Speaker 4: six yards of carry.
- 17:54Speaker 3: You can't be allowed to beginning in the game, No.
- 17:56Speaker 1: They didn't. They could enter the chure about from the
- 17:58Speaker 1: beginning of the game. They had nothing, nothing to cheer about.
- 18:03Speaker 2: It was offensive. Plays were our special team's blunders yep.
- 18:09Speaker 1: And in one play the stilgating scene was on the
- 18:12Speaker 1: other side of the stadium that we didn't make it
- 18:14Speaker 1: over to, so I don't I don't know. We were
- 18:16Speaker 1: on the the like the commercial bar type side, So
- 18:21Speaker 1: I can't speak to that.
- 18:23Speaker 5: Uh.
- 18:25Speaker 1: Okay, So Saturday, whatever Saturday happened? When did this next
- 18:33Speaker 1: news break? Was it Sunday?
- 18:36Speaker 3: Today?
- 18:36Speaker 2: Today?
- 18:37Speaker 1: This morning?
- 18:38Speaker 3: Okay?
- 18:38Speaker 1: Whatever Saturday Sunday happened? I'll be honest, I my emotions
- 18:42Speaker 1: that got obviously wasn't quite as sad. I was like, Okay,
- 18:45Speaker 1: we made a bowl game, but I really don't care
- 18:46Speaker 1: because I'm still upset. But but but, but it is
- 18:50Speaker 1: kind of fun to say, Okay, who are we going
- 18:51Speaker 1: to play? What kind of chance were we going to have?
- 18:55Speaker 1: I think all of our players are going to stay
- 18:56Speaker 1: and play because they made a bowl game. Still, but
- 18:59Speaker 1: the whole pro I think, is just deflated after losing
- 19:02Speaker 1: that way. Like you said, Austin, every every roller coaster
- 19:05Speaker 1: high that we had off of the Wisconsin game just
- 19:08Speaker 1: feel like it just got shot off because of the
- 19:11Speaker 1: way this. Even if we would have lost like twenty
- 19:13Speaker 1: to ten this game or twenty seven to ten, and okay,
- 19:16Speaker 1: Iowa played better than us, you know, we're not quite Iowa.
- 19:19Speaker 4: The Dana Holgerson talk stops real freaking quick after Friday.
- 19:25Speaker 1: But okay, the hard part about that that game I
- 19:30Speaker 1: thought our offense played. Okay, it's like, and I get it, Yeah,
- 19:35Speaker 1: results are what matters.
- 19:36Speaker 2: That is true.
- 19:37Speaker 1: I thought we ran them comparing it to Iowa. We
- 19:39Speaker 1: ran the ball better than him, we threw it better
- 19:41Speaker 1: than him. We then had two turnovers, one of them
- 19:44Speaker 1: on offense, one big one at the end. But like,
- 19:46Speaker 1: we did some good things. Obviously we didn't put points it,
- 19:49Speaker 1: but the way the game was going, it wasn't like
- 19:51Speaker 1: we had to ask our offense to do a whole lot.
- 19:54Speaker 1: More like we were in control of the game from
- 19:58Speaker 1: start to the missfield goal, and then we saw things slip.
- 20:03Speaker 1: So yeah, but the data conversation is interesting. More to
- 20:07Speaker 1: come later because we scored ten points and lost to Iowa,
- 20:13Speaker 1: and then Tony White says, my defense only gave up thirteen,
- 20:18Speaker 1: not really even gave up thirteen. You have one play
- 20:24Speaker 1: and more to come there too. So Saturday Sunday happens. Whatever.
- 20:27Speaker 1: I was kind of over at bowl game talk. We're
- 20:29Speaker 1: gonna figure out where we play here next Sunday. You know,
- 20:32Speaker 1: maybe we're not gonna get in the Tampa Bowl anymore,
- 20:34Speaker 1: but all these other bowl games are still optioned. We're
- 20:37Speaker 1: gonna play an ACC or an SEC school. I think
- 20:41Speaker 1: there'll still be some positives I think that come from that.
- 20:45Speaker 1: We're getting practice time, which I think is good.
- 20:49Speaker 2: But a chance of redemption.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Chances are redemption, I guess for this team and rule Okay,
- 20:58Speaker 1: anything else on the weekend, Like I only not much there,
- 21:00Speaker 1: but the.
- 21:02Speaker 4: Volleyball bracket YEP gets unveiled. That was also major bummer.
- 21:09Speaker 4: I felt it was pretty harsh for sea penalties that
- 21:12Speaker 4: much for losing to Penn State three to one. But whatever,
- 21:16Speaker 4: you get put in the same brackets Wisconsin, which freaking
- 21:18Speaker 4: sucks even though we beat them twice this year in sweeps.
- 21:21Speaker 1: You never thought. I'm like, okay, I mean, they have
- 21:23Speaker 1: been kind of our nemesis recently, but we beat them
- 21:26Speaker 1: twice and they haven't be a set honest. Yeah, so
- 21:28Speaker 1: maybe we just have them this year.
- 21:31Speaker 2: Maybe you know, that's not what you want to see though,
- 21:33Speaker 2: I mean.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Hey, real quick, Bread, great job something I canna.
- 21:39Speaker 3: Say that you got an opfensive juggernaut now.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Scored one hundred for the first time and exactly with
- 21:46Speaker 1: twenty three years I believe he does. And one, gosh it,
- 21:51Speaker 1: that's looking great. We're we'receiving some boats were around like
- 21:53Speaker 1: fortieth now in the polls. If you just add the
- 21:55Speaker 1: boats up, you know where we're at. Like, great job, Bread,
- 21:59Speaker 1: great job for basketball for giving us some go to
- 22:02Speaker 1: look forward to. Uh here the next few weeks conference play.
- 22:08Speaker 1: We have a couple of conference games coming up this week.
- 22:11Speaker 1: I think we play Saturday at Michigan State to kick
- 22:14Speaker 1: it off, so that'll be a that'll be a true
- 22:16Speaker 1: test see where we're at. Then we have a couple
- 22:18Speaker 1: more non con before we finish out with all of
- 22:20Speaker 1: our conference games. But yeah, good job the Connors sgion.
- 22:25Speaker 1: I saw someone say better than Case question mark. I
- 22:27Speaker 1: was like, don't do that to Case, but he's playing.
- 22:30Speaker 5: Well.
- 22:34Speaker 3: Yeah, it doesn't help your rankings here that Creyton's fawn
- 22:37Speaker 3: off the map. But but on the other end, I
- 22:40Speaker 3: don't know, if you pay attention to.
- 22:42Speaker 1: Creighton, can just go die on a cliff get out
- 22:44Speaker 1: of here.
- 22:45Speaker 3: I don't know if you've saw on the other side
- 22:47Speaker 3: of the map, those Saint Mary's is just dominating everybody
- 22:50Speaker 3: three So so I don't know, No, not sure how
- 22:56Speaker 3: good they actually are yet we'll see.
- 22:59Speaker 2: All right, we're gonna get to today.
- 23:01Speaker 1: Let's do it because this is the beginning, and I'm
- 23:04Speaker 1: gonna we're gonna maybe call it the off season. It's
- 23:06Speaker 1: not the off season because we're in a ballgame, but
- 23:08Speaker 1: it is the off season. The off season, guys, I'm
- 23:12Speaker 1: just saying, get used to all of this news and
- 23:16Speaker 1: moving parts. It's just gonna become a thing at every
- 23:20Speaker 1: spot of college football. That's just the way it is now.
- 23:23Speaker 1: It's fast paced. People are gonna react to it, people
- 23:25Speaker 1: are gonna judge on it. Your emotions are gonna ship
- 23:28Speaker 1: very quickly. Coaches are not gonna get five years to
- 23:30Speaker 1: build up a program anymore. It's not gonna happen that.
- 23:35Speaker 1: The money is flying around in circles everywhere, players, coaches,
- 23:41Speaker 1: nil stadium rebuilds, all sorts of stuff. It's becoming a
- 23:46Speaker 1: professional industry slowly as we speak. So just expect this stuff.
- 23:53Speaker 1: But it's fun to talk about, fun to react to.
- 23:56Speaker 1: You don't normally hear this. Bigger news break so quickly
- 23:59Speaker 1: and are just gonna keep coming. So anyways, Monday morning,
- 24:03Speaker 1: and I also, I'm gonna say this a little ashamed
- 24:06Speaker 1: of it, but both news that broke today, I didn't
- 24:11Speaker 1: know it happened until I got the text from Dak
- 24:14Speaker 1: whoa and that said big news. And then that's when
- 24:18Speaker 1: I logged onto my Twitter and boomed there it all lives.
- 24:21Speaker 1: So Dak, I think you were like when you were
- 24:25Speaker 1: within the for twenty minutes on both of them. I
- 24:27Speaker 1: believe from when they broke on Twitter.
- 24:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I've got somebody who sends me husker stuff like
- 24:32Speaker 3: on the dot right when it comes out. And that's
- 24:36Speaker 3: why I saw that pretty instantly.
- 24:38Speaker 1: Who is that bo.
- 24:41Speaker 3: Like on the like like the tweet was up for
- 24:43Speaker 3: it said less than a minute.
- 24:47Speaker 6: It's funny that were travels.
- 24:51Speaker 1: But Dak the true huse cafane of the group, I'm
- 24:54Speaker 1: seeing it right away. So Tony White gone gonzo to
- 25:00Speaker 1: Florida State kind of you know, when stuff like that breaks,
- 25:02Speaker 1: it's like the rumor the source. It's like, is this
- 25:04Speaker 1: real source is real? And then all of a sudden,
- 25:06Speaker 1: there's like six of them that are reporting and you're like, okay,
- 25:08Speaker 1: it's confirmed to Florida State. I I haven't really read
- 25:13Speaker 1: it a whole lot. Have we seen a number dollar
- 25:16Speaker 1: number with it?
- 25:17Speaker 2: No number, but it.
- 25:18Speaker 4: Sounds yeah, it sounds like Florida State's willing to pay
- 25:22Speaker 4: their it. My understanding is from because I went on
- 25:25Speaker 4: to the Florida State subreddit to see what their fans
- 25:27Speaker 4: are saying. It's basically they can't afford to pay the buyout,
- 25:32Speaker 4: so the institution's giving them money for their OC and
- 25:36Speaker 4: DC to try to like we would rather spend four
- 25:39Speaker 4: million dollars here than pay the forty five million dollars
- 25:42Speaker 4: to fire normal. So so there you go, probably top
- 25:47Speaker 4: five if I had to guess, because he's sitting at
- 25:49Speaker 4: number eleven right now or something like that.
- 25:51Speaker 1: A lot of money obviously in that decision. We don't
- 25:54Speaker 1: know the dollar amount, but defensive coordinator position. And then
- 25:59Speaker 1: with that came Terrence Knight in our defensive line coach,
- 26:02Speaker 1: which maybe I guess. The last thing I saw before
- 26:05Speaker 1: we started talking was that that's not confirmed yet, that
- 26:08Speaker 1: Nebraska is still trying to pull some strings, maybe rename
- 26:11Speaker 1: his position title, maybe maybe DC, I don't know, but
- 26:16Speaker 1: trying to keep him here. So that may not be
- 26:20Speaker 1: official yet, but the the Tony White thing is for
- 26:24Speaker 1: sure official to Florida State as a defensive coordinator who
- 26:29Speaker 1: was two and ten this year. Mike Norvel, their head coach,
- 26:33Speaker 1: obviously coming off an undefeated regular season last year, and
- 26:37Speaker 1: then this year like just complete, just horrible, to the
- 26:43Speaker 1: point where everybody's like, do you fire the guy after
- 26:46Speaker 1: going undefeated and then going to and ten? Like you said, Austin,
- 26:50Speaker 1: they decide not to, but they bring in Tony White.
- 26:53Speaker 1: I maybe the reason is they're gonna let Norvel fail
- 26:57Speaker 1: and let Tony White take over. That doesn't that the
- 27:00Speaker 1: not We've always said this when it comes to coordinators
- 27:02Speaker 1: and stuff like this on the podcast, Like, that's never
- 27:04Speaker 1: never a good healthy situation for a program. If you
- 27:07Speaker 1: have that set up and built that way, if you're
- 27:09Speaker 1: telling Tony White that already, it's not good because then
- 27:12Speaker 1: Tony White is not going to try to do well,
- 27:13Speaker 1: try to get Norbel fired and then get get put
- 27:16Speaker 1: in there. I don't know if that's the case that
- 27:19Speaker 1: could be, but I'm trying to justify it positively because
- 27:22Speaker 1: this Dak tell us, tell everybody what you told us.
- 27:27Speaker 1: When you said it, it was just it was just
- 27:31Speaker 1: a kicking the nuts. Oh yeah, yep, That's exactly how
- 27:36Speaker 1: I felt with it. I was pretty mad today. I was.
- 27:42Speaker 1: I was pretty fired up with it all. Not not
- 27:46Speaker 1: at Tony White.
- 27:48Speaker 4: I'm just the entire situation, how the week, how from
- 27:51Speaker 4: Friday to Monday, when I was just not happy about
- 27:54Speaker 4: anything Husk related specifically.
- 27:58Speaker 2: I had a good time otherwise, but Husker related.
- 28:01Speaker 5: So bad.
- 28:02Speaker 4: I have a like so, I mean I could see
- 28:05Speaker 4: it from Tony White, Hey, We're gonna make your top
- 28:07Speaker 4: five defensive coordinator by.
- 28:09Speaker 2: Based on salary.
- 28:12Speaker 4: H you know, he's probably he's looking at our roster
- 28:15Speaker 4: being like, there's gonna be a huge turnover this year. Honestly,
- 28:20Speaker 4: rules kind of he didn't throw the defense under the
- 28:22Speaker 4: bus and the postgame presser, but he was not. He's like,
- 28:25Speaker 4: defense has got to be better. It's like, you can't
- 28:29Speaker 4: I understand the game of one play, but like, that's
- 28:33Speaker 4: not that's not the time to be like defense has
- 28:35Speaker 4: to be better when.
- 28:37Speaker 2: They did not lose it.
- 28:38Speaker 4: So he's probably a little missed off about that. And
- 28:41Speaker 4: then you probably as he's thinking, he's like, hey, man,
- 28:44Speaker 4: if you're there and you have a little bit of
- 28:45Speaker 4: a track writer record of being a good coach and
- 28:47Speaker 4: Norvelle's on the hot seat already, you probably think that
- 28:50Speaker 4: they might not have said that, but you're probably thinking
- 28:52Speaker 4: this could be a fast track to a Power five
- 28:54Speaker 4: head coaching job.
- 28:57Speaker 1: So, yes, I agree that when it comes to Tony
- 29:02Speaker 1: White and looking at from his standpoint, there's some things
- 29:05Speaker 1: that have to happen. I think for you to take
- 29:07Speaker 1: this position or for you to believe or think we
- 29:14Speaker 1: at times throughout this year look at our defense, what
- 29:17Speaker 1: it's done we can. I think all agree that our
- 29:20Speaker 1: defense was much better than our offense. They had their moments,
- 29:22Speaker 1: but they were much better. And we've had a very
- 29:24Speaker 1: strong defensive unit for the past two years. It's not been,
- 29:28Speaker 1: you know, a top five unit in the country by
- 29:30Speaker 1: any means, but it's done very really well, like very
- 29:34Speaker 1: well game and that a large part of it is
- 29:39Speaker 1: because of Tony White. You know, it's of people kind
- 29:41Speaker 1: of laughingly joked but said Tony White could be the
- 29:44Speaker 1: head head coach anyways, talk about him becoming the head
- 29:46Speaker 1: coach somewhere else living there would be a game that
- 29:49Speaker 1: will give up a crap ton of points and they're like, Okay,
- 29:51Speaker 1: he's not getting the head coaching job anywhere else.
- 29:53Speaker 2: We can keep him.
- 29:54Speaker 1: We extended his salary earlier in the year and gave
- 29:57Speaker 1: him an extension, gave him a raise, keep him here,
- 30:00Speaker 1: or maybe that was before the year. I can't remember.
- 30:02Speaker 2: The offseason.
- 30:03Speaker 1: Ye, So this guy's a good coach and we know
- 30:06Speaker 1: he's got a career ahead of him, but we wanted
- 30:09Speaker 1: to keep him. So we knew he potentially could leave,
- 30:11Speaker 1: but not for a defensive coordinator, not a lateral move
- 30:16Speaker 1: to another program that is I'll say it's similar to
- 30:20Speaker 1: Nebraska where they're struggling to climb back up. Now, Florida
- 30:22Speaker 1: State has climbed back up a couple of times since
- 30:25Speaker 1: Nebraska has clearly because we haven't at all a lateral move.
- 30:33Speaker 3: That.
- 30:34Speaker 1: I think there's a lot of things you can read
- 30:35Speaker 1: into that, and maybe a lot of it's just reading
- 30:37Speaker 1: too much into it, but that everybody has the right
- 30:39Speaker 1: to their opinion on the why. So I want to
- 30:43Speaker 1: break this down a little more than we are already.
- 30:47Speaker 1: Why do you leave a job?
- 30:50Speaker 2: Any job?
- 30:51Speaker 1: Like I'm not talking coaches, I'm talking any job that
- 30:55Speaker 1: you are working for, whether it be what you were
- 30:58Speaker 1: doing in high school to college to where everybody's at
- 31:03Speaker 1: full time now, like why are people that are older
- 31:06Speaker 1: this Why do you leave a job? Like Dak named
- 31:09Speaker 1: some reasons, I'll start with you pay, Okay, pay is
- 31:15Speaker 1: a big one. I agree work environment, your environment, yep,
- 31:20Speaker 1: Like if you're if you don't like the environment, the culture,
- 31:23Speaker 1: whatever you want.
- 31:23Speaker 3: To which I would add coworkers to that. Basically boss bo, Yeah.
- 31:30Speaker 1: You don't like your boss, you're probably getting the heck
- 31:32Speaker 1: out of there.
- 31:33Speaker 3: Now Here's here's another one is and I don't know
- 31:35Speaker 3: if you guys. Location which I looked at before this.
- 31:38Speaker 3: He is from Florida, so.
- 31:40Speaker 1: Yep, there's another one. There's location, right.
- 31:43Speaker 3: I don't know if anything to do with it, but.
- 31:47Speaker 1: That happens. A lot families get relocated because of location,
- 31:51Speaker 1: like where they want to be Austome. You didn't give
- 31:54Speaker 1: any others. I got a few more that come to mind.
- 31:57Speaker 4: It would my other My other big one was out
- 32:00Speaker 4: of those ones would probably be where you're told you.
- 32:05Speaker 2: Incorrect expectations. It's like, hey, we need you to do this,
- 32:08Speaker 2: and then you do it. They're like, well that's not
- 32:09Speaker 2: really what we need.
- 32:11Speaker 5: Do you know what?
- 32:11Speaker 2: I wuld you phrase that where or like, hey, this
- 32:14Speaker 2: is your role, but we end up having you do
- 32:16Speaker 2: all this stuff instead or overworking.
- 32:20Speaker 1: I was going to say your job function like function.
- 32:24Speaker 1: I mean it's kind of what you're what you're talking about,
- 32:26Speaker 1: like what you're doing and what you want to do.
- 32:28Speaker 1: Like if you're not doing what you want to do,
- 32:31Speaker 1: then you're probably going to try to find something else.
- 32:36Speaker 1: I think those are all really good reasons, right, and
- 32:38Speaker 1: and what I when it comes to Tony White leaving,
- 32:43Speaker 1: I think you can go down all of those paths
- 32:46Speaker 1: and say that potentially has a factor into it.
- 32:49Speaker 4: I would say that if I was Tony White and
- 32:53Speaker 4: my boss brings in Phil snow To over to look
- 32:58Speaker 4: at the defense to see what I'm doing incorrect, I
- 33:00Speaker 4: believe it's like, dude, I'm freaking carrying this team.
- 33:03Speaker 2: Maybe he'd fixed the offense. I'd be pretty pissed too.
- 33:06Speaker 1: So that piece right there, and that goes into kind
- 33:10Speaker 1: of dacks. I think that it's the big one. The culture,
- 33:12Speaker 1: the people, the environment that you're working in. You can
- 33:17Speaker 1: everybody can think what they want. They can you can
- 33:19Speaker 1: try to say it's the location, or it's the better pay.
- 33:22Speaker 1: Like Nebraska fans are going to justify it in that way.
- 33:26Speaker 1: They are going to say, because we need to still
- 33:29Speaker 1: win that offseason national title this year. They are going
- 33:32Speaker 1: to say always getting paid more, we couldn't pay him
- 33:35Speaker 1: that much. Or he's from Florida so he wanted to
- 33:38Speaker 1: get back home, or wanted something, you wanted to do
- 33:41Speaker 1: something a little bit different once ahead job, Well, they're
- 33:44Speaker 1: going to justify it. Those things all could be true
- 33:48Speaker 1: to a certain extent, but I think it's very little.
- 33:51Speaker 1: I think Austin, to your point, what it's saying is
- 33:53Speaker 1: Tony White did not see a future here. He was
- 33:55Speaker 1: frustrated with how he was being I'm gonna say he
- 33:58Speaker 1: was being bullieder are shunned, but he was getting a he.
- 34:03Speaker 2: Was getting a chunk of blame that he felt he
- 34:05Speaker 2: definitely should not be getting.
- 34:06Speaker 1: He wasn't happy here he was He ended up being
- 34:10Speaker 1: not happy and did not see a future with Matt
- 34:13Speaker 1: Ruhle in Nebraska. He didn't see it at least in
- 34:17Speaker 1: the short term. And Tony White wants to be a
- 34:19Speaker 1: head coach, and I think that's pretty given. If he
- 34:22Speaker 1: thought his best path and if you're my rule, you've
- 34:25Speaker 1: been remaking it. The best path for him to become
- 34:28Speaker 1: a head coach was to be a defensive coordinator. Maybe
- 34:30Speaker 1: not this year, but next year or the year after.
- 34:33Speaker 1: Then he's staying here. But he didn't see that.
- 34:36Speaker 4: His best path is on a winning team and the
- 34:39Speaker 4: defense is solid, and I feel like Florida State and
- 34:42Speaker 4: the ACC has a decent a better shot than Nebraska
- 34:45Speaker 4: is a big tenant.
- 34:45Speaker 2: Having a decent run to make like an ACC championship game.
- 34:48Speaker 1: And winning games, and right like this team, they were
- 34:54Speaker 1: just undefeated the year before. You three and a. Our
- 35:00Speaker 1: defense plays the exact same, but our offense isn't just
- 35:03Speaker 1: a top fifty offense. Tony White's getting the head job
- 35:07Speaker 1: somewhere and his goals are achieved. But Tony White is
- 35:09Speaker 1: now looking at the situation.
- 35:10Speaker 2: He's going, Huh, this is gonna be a longer process
- 35:14Speaker 2: than I anticipated.
- 35:15Speaker 1: In my defense is doing pretty damn well, and we're
- 35:18Speaker 1: doing about everything we can. But there's nowhere he does
- 35:24Speaker 1: not see in his mind. He does not see a
- 35:26Speaker 1: way up for himself at Nebraska, where at Florida State
- 35:30Speaker 1: thinks there may be is and I don't I don't
- 35:34Speaker 1: know anything about Florida State. I don't know nothing about
- 35:36Speaker 1: Norbel but Norvel still there. It's not like they're completely
- 35:41Speaker 1: restarting and he's getting a fresh start to prove No,
- 35:43Speaker 1: like he's coming in to like also help save that program,
- 35:47Speaker 1: is what he's trying to do. There's a good chance
- 35:49Speaker 1: for to State can be bad again next year. I mean,
- 35:51Speaker 1: we don't know that. His job is to save them. Well,
- 35:54Speaker 1: his job here is to save our program. He's saying,
- 35:56Speaker 1: I have exhausted myself and that was my other big one.
- 35:59Speaker 1: I kind of at a job when you feel like
- 36:02Speaker 1: when you feel like you've exhausted, not burned out, but
- 36:04Speaker 1: you've exhausted the extent that you can do in a position.
- 36:08Speaker 1: And I think that's a lot more in coaching. But
- 36:09Speaker 1: you've done everything you've can, everything that you know how
- 36:13Speaker 1: to do, and you're trying, you know, you try to learn,
- 36:15Speaker 1: but the games are so marginal that you're like, I've
- 36:17Speaker 1: done what I can here and I've made an impact
- 36:19Speaker 1: on this program. I want to go do something else
- 36:21Speaker 1: because I can't do anything more with what I know
- 36:23Speaker 1: how to do. It's a little bit of a fixed mindset.
- 36:27Speaker 1: I get that a little bit, so you kind of
- 36:29Speaker 1: want a girl. But he he sees more opportunities at
- 36:31Speaker 1: Florida State. Right then and there, this all gets announced
- 36:36Speaker 1: and especially to Terrence Knighton, and then who knows what
- 36:39Speaker 1: comes after that? Right The impact I think this has
- 36:42Speaker 1: in the players and what they when they look at that,
- 36:46Speaker 1: especially the guys in the defense, but even guys in
- 36:48Speaker 1: the offense, they go wow, like just think about a
- 36:52Speaker 1: big picture. This was our best coach on assistant coach
- 36:56Speaker 1: on the staff, Terrence Knighton, probably our second best assistant
- 36:59Speaker 1: coach on the staff, kind of talking pre data. Get
- 37:02Speaker 1: the data here in a second, and our best coach says,
- 37:07Speaker 1: I don't want to be here anymore because I want
- 37:10Speaker 1: to take a similar position somewhere else, of a similar
- 37:13Speaker 1: type of rule. What is that like? Think about what?
- 37:15Speaker 1: If you're a player, You're like what in the world?
- 37:18Speaker 1: Like what? You almost want to go? What happened? Like
- 37:23Speaker 1: what happened between him and Rule? And now guess what?
- 37:25Speaker 1: As a player, you start to question everything about the program,
- 37:29Speaker 1: about the culture, the hard stuff that you're doing in practice,
- 37:31Speaker 1: in the weight room, in the off season. You start wondering, man,
- 37:35Speaker 1: if Tony White, if our best coach, assistant coach does
- 37:38Speaker 1: not see a future here, what does that tell us
- 37:40Speaker 1: about the entire program in general? And that was where
- 37:44Speaker 1: today I am like, Rules done, like his potential for
- 37:51Speaker 1: being for turning this program around and the place that
- 37:54Speaker 1: we want it to be, and not turning around winning
- 37:56Speaker 1: six or seven games every year, but actually moving us
- 37:59Speaker 1: towards a national or a playoff contender team every year.
- 38:03Speaker 1: I don't think it's gonna work. It's not. And I
- 38:06Speaker 1: want to say, do you fire him? Well? Maybe I
- 38:08Speaker 1: guess yeah, he don't, don't quit, don't waste time on
- 38:11Speaker 1: a guy that it's not gonna work here, don't don't
- 38:13Speaker 1: waste two or three more years and get rid of it,
- 38:17Speaker 1: like do it, do it now in an environment. Now
- 38:20Speaker 1: you're gonna see it. You're gonna see it happen. Like,
- 38:22Speaker 1: let's move on. If that's the case, that was me
- 38:24Speaker 1: like going down, and that was me being frustrated too.
- 38:26Speaker 1: And and I'm not saying I'm completely away from that
- 38:29Speaker 1: thought now, but that's where I was at as of
- 38:31Speaker 1: one o'clock PM today. Yeah, I just I'm like, it's
- 38:35Speaker 1: like it's over. Like the best guy, the best coach,
- 38:38Speaker 1: and all the players like they rules try and he
- 38:42Speaker 1: spoke that, he said the right things, He's tried to
- 38:45Speaker 1: explain everything. What else can you do though, if you're
- 38:48Speaker 1: not if you're not actually producing the outcome on the
- 38:50Speaker 1: field and you continue to lose one score game is
- 38:52Speaker 1: the way that we have as eventually you're done believing
- 38:57Speaker 1: again as a player. And after two or three years
- 38:59Speaker 1: is when you start to say, wandering question that honeymoon
- 39:03Speaker 1: phase is gone. It's gone now.
- 39:06Speaker 2: I agree with that.
- 39:07Speaker 1: Never it's now or never, So yeah, maybe this year,
- 39:10Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't think if this continues next
- 39:12Speaker 1: to your rules, not getting five years, it's not gonna happen.
- 39:15Speaker 1: So maybe I guess you give him one more year
- 39:18Speaker 1: and see what happens. But I just think it's gonna
- 39:20Speaker 1: be very bleak and very tough to do so because
- 39:23Speaker 1: of the way this all is going to impact and
- 39:25Speaker 1: we don't need This is the beginning of it, guys.
- 39:26Speaker 1: We don't even know what's gonna happen in the portal
- 39:29Speaker 1: and all the players that it's going to continue to
- 39:31Speaker 1: be a mystery every year.
- 39:33Speaker 2: I mean, I have a so here's my list.
- 39:36Speaker 4: So White night but the big apparently, like I will
- 39:42Speaker 4: say this funny, you read some of the Husker posts,
- 39:44Speaker 4: It's like, well, White's really not that good. You know,
- 39:47Speaker 4: the defense is pretty down the stretch when it needed
- 39:49Speaker 4: to be. You know, Nighting is really the bigger loss,
- 39:51Speaker 4: is a big recruiter. Blah blah blah. It's like, all right, guys,
- 39:54Speaker 4: you know, classic Husker fan mentality. Yeah, he wasn't that good.
- 39:57Speaker 4: We don't need him.
- 39:58Speaker 1: Like I saw that too. Oh my god, it is
- 40:00Speaker 1: you said, classic hustler fandom. Well, Pony White's defense got
- 40:04Speaker 1: worse this year, so we really don't want him like,
- 40:07Speaker 1: just get rid of him. He wasn't got great. We
- 40:10Speaker 1: could find someone better, Like you're a classic Husker fan mentality.
- 40:13Speaker 4: Okay, so we've Butler's portal, Bayer's portal, Shaver's portal, Thompson's portal,
- 40:20Speaker 4: Jackson's portal, Urban's portal, and they got Coleman and Schaffula
- 40:25Speaker 4: or whatever also portal.
- 40:29Speaker 2: So I mean that was just today. And then you
- 40:32Speaker 2: have on top of that your defense.
- 40:34Speaker 4: So I was looking at it, twelve of our top
- 40:37Speaker 4: fifteen leaders and tackles last year they're either in the
- 40:39Speaker 4: portal or they're graduating. So we have three people in
- 40:44Speaker 4: our top fifteen tacklers for the last for the whole
- 40:46Speaker 4: season coming back. Potentially that's some of the transfer portals
- 40:51Speaker 4: might pull their name, but I doubt it.
- 40:55Speaker 3: That's the that's the worst part out losing the coach
- 40:57Speaker 3: nowadays is the portal because because this guy recruit either
- 41:01Speaker 3: recruited him or was coaching and through his whole career,
- 41:03Speaker 3: well he leaves, you don't want another coach coming in
- 41:06Speaker 3: news system and everything. You're like, f that, I'm just
- 41:07Speaker 3: gonna go to different school. Like especially down players can
- 41:12Speaker 3: move so much. It just everyone everyone leaves, when a
- 41:14Speaker 3: coach leaves, that's that's the way it is now on
- 41:18Speaker 3: that side the ball.
- 41:19Speaker 1: And here's the moving part to that. When you get
- 41:21Speaker 1: a new coach, depending on where you get him from,
- 41:24Speaker 1: you might get players with him too. So there there
- 41:27Speaker 1: is that moving piece with it in the Crane reportal
- 41:32Speaker 1: of like, we've seen our basketball team new players and
- 41:35Speaker 1: new a new roster every year, especially this next year
- 41:39Speaker 1: when we have these roster limits too, so there's a
- 41:42Speaker 1: lot that goes with that. But I just think with
- 41:45Speaker 1: what we currently have, the guys that are staying or
- 41:48Speaker 1: the current program, it's just it's hard for me to
- 41:50Speaker 1: see have hope right now in a Matt rule, the
- 41:56Speaker 1: Matt Rural era as the head coach. In the long term,
- 41:59Speaker 1: it's very hard to see that vision. I'm not saying
- 42:01Speaker 1: it's completely gone, but there's very very little hope in
- 42:06Speaker 1: my mind left this as at one o'clock that is
- 42:13Speaker 1: left and we will hire a new DC. And that's
- 42:16Speaker 1: Husker fan mentality again. We jumped already to all these
- 42:19Speaker 1: candidates and throwing names out there and this is who
- 42:21Speaker 1: we're getting, This who we should get, This is who
- 42:23Speaker 1: we should get. YadA YadA, YadA, And whenever this person's announced,
- 42:27Speaker 1: and whoever this new person is and whoever's coaching it,
- 42:29Speaker 1: they may bring players. We're gonna get un hyped. We're
- 42:32Speaker 1: gonna get back climbing up polls in the offseason, naty
- 42:34Speaker 1: titles like that's what we do. We will be excited
- 42:37Speaker 1: and there will be hope, though, there will be rejuvenation.
- 42:40Speaker 1: I just want to remind everybody that this happened for
- 42:43Speaker 1: a reason, by our best coach leaving the program. It
- 42:47Speaker 1: happened he saw something. And I don't want people to say, oh,
- 42:51Speaker 1: we don't we didn't want to be His defense wasn't
- 42:53Speaker 1: very good. No, our defense was damn good this year.
- 42:55Speaker 1: It was very good. It was not again a top five,
- 42:58Speaker 1: but like he's a top thirty. It was. It was
- 43:01Speaker 1: a good defense. So that was one o'clock today and
- 43:08Speaker 1: very frustrated. Is very much like okay, it's done, Like
- 43:10Speaker 1: it's done for rule. Then Dak breaks the news again.
- 43:17Speaker 1: More news Dana Holderson signed a two year contract as
- 43:22Speaker 1: offensive coordinator. Was at less than an hour ago. Yeah,
- 43:26Speaker 1: a half ago.
- 43:29Speaker 4: News is gonna be that dand of Hormison doesn't want
- 43:31Speaker 4: Garrett McGuire on staff say that, and that's what their
- 43:36Speaker 4: sources are, that McGuire's out.
- 43:38Speaker 1: That's promising.
- 43:41Speaker 3: I think.
- 43:44Speaker 1: I so okay, so Tony White gone, and I think
- 43:48Speaker 1: the doomsday scenario like that we've all kind of talked
- 43:50Speaker 1: about and laughed about, was like, okay, Matt rules days.
- 43:53Speaker 1: But then Dana says, I'm out. So that was fun
- 43:56Speaker 1: for three games. I'm Gandhi, Tony White says, I'm gonna
- 43:59Speaker 1: go find a new job, and Matt Rules like left
- 44:01Speaker 1: on his island basically to rebuild it. All that was
- 44:05Speaker 1: kind of over my head was that I'm like, oh, boy, like,
- 44:08Speaker 1: what are we gonna do. We're gonna wait another two
- 44:10Speaker 1: or three years to get Matt Matt Rule, try to
- 44:13Speaker 1: go round to base. What do we do with Scott Frost?
- 44:15Speaker 1: We kind of did the same thing. We let we
- 44:17Speaker 1: cleaned house coordinator wise, tried to bring new people in,
- 44:21Speaker 1: Mark Whipple tried to sling it around. Boy, That's what
- 44:28Speaker 1: I was envisioning. But Dana now says, nope, I'm all in,
- 44:32Speaker 1: give me two years. Let's do this thing.
- 44:35Speaker 2: Two years. How long Israela gonna be playing college football?
- 44:41Speaker 1: Hopefully? Well? Yeah, maybe two more years. Three That brought
- 44:49Speaker 1: my hope, and I think it should. I don't think
- 44:52Speaker 1: there's anything wrong with this. Back to like, Okay, okay,
- 44:54Speaker 1: let's see like Dana Dyanasy something Dynasy something, Tony White.
- 44:59Speaker 1: They to see something. Dana is still new. There's that
- 45:04Speaker 1: sense of hope of maybe maybe maybe maybe we can
- 45:07Speaker 1: figure this out offensively. Defensively, we're going to figure something
- 45:11Speaker 1: completely different again. But offensively, maybe we have the time
- 45:15Speaker 1: and the coach that had success, and what I said before,
- 45:20Speaker 1: we had Dana kind of has a weird, blant, straight
- 45:24Speaker 1: to the point type of personality that I've said bodes
- 45:28Speaker 1: well for players. I think that works really well. And
- 45:31Speaker 1: I think he mentioned as well as Dylan all the
- 45:33Speaker 1: things that we've talked about Dane before. I was like, Okay,
- 45:38Speaker 1: maybe let's hang on to rule for now, see what
- 45:43Speaker 1: happens with Dana. But I got hope again a little bit.
- 45:52Speaker 4: I mean, honestly, it's too like you look at the
- 45:54Speaker 4: defensive side, the number of seniors that we're leadingmber of
- 46:00Speaker 4: starters and impact players that were leaving regardless prior to
- 46:04Speaker 4: transfer portal, just people that you knew were going. You're like,
- 46:08Speaker 4: oh boy, defense is gonna be rough next year, defensive
- 46:11Speaker 4: corner dips. On the offensive side, it's like, well, we
- 46:13Speaker 4: got a really we got a couple of really good freshmen,
- 46:15Speaker 4: like receivers Carter Nelson, we got Dylan Riola, we got
- 46:20Speaker 4: a couple of four star offensive linemen that.
- 46:22Speaker 2: Have been you know, in the wings that might be okay.
- 46:27Speaker 4: And then we hired Holgerson and were like, yeah, we
- 46:29Speaker 4: think we think he's a good offensive coordinator.
- 46:31Speaker 5: This it's just.
- 46:34Speaker 4: Two very different sides of the same football team, where
- 46:39Speaker 4: last year it was the exact opposite. W Our defense
- 46:41Speaker 4: is in great positions, gonna be young, and our offense
- 46:44Speaker 4: is full of old people that aren't playing well anyways.
- 46:47Speaker 2: I don't know, it's wild whatever whatever I mean.
- 46:51Speaker 1: I was.
- 46:52Speaker 2: I was looking up through next year's schedule. I was like, oh,
- 46:54Speaker 2: it's not as bad as I thought it was gonna be.
- 46:57Speaker 1: I mean, it's pretty easy relatively speaking.
- 47:01Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean it is you but you look through
- 47:03Speaker 4: it's like, all right, we're gonna lose three starting offensive
- 47:06Speaker 4: line and we're losing Bouschini, We're losing our two top
- 47:09Speaker 4: wide receivers. We're losing it's you really hope that that
- 47:14Speaker 4: development mentality in year three is really gonna really gonna click.
- 47:20Speaker 2: The rule has been preaching now going into the day.
- 47:25Speaker 3: If you had to pick which one of those two
- 47:27Speaker 3: would you rather keep? Would you rather kept on the team,
- 47:31Speaker 3: Whelkerson or White?
- 47:34Speaker 1: With the fiery question, I'd say White.
- 47:37Speaker 3: I've seen it, yeah, but Holgerson's done it everywhere too, well,
- 47:43Speaker 3: not everywhere, but a lot of places.
- 47:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm trying to think as far as replacement like that,
- 47:50Speaker 1: our offense has been so bad. Yeah, it probably still
- 47:53Speaker 1: Tony White.
- 47:54Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it's probably easier to plug in an
- 47:57Speaker 4: OC from somewhere else, Like you can probably find it
- 47:59Speaker 4: up and coming offensive mind, but the defensive minds are
- 48:02Speaker 4: harder to find.
- 48:04Speaker 3: I don't think if Bulgerson would left either, you wouldn't
- 48:06Speaker 3: have lost your whole offense like Tony White, the staff
- 48:12Speaker 3: with him, especially big ten football aways played. You want
- 48:16Speaker 3: your a good.
- 48:16Speaker 1: DC, And I think there's gonna be people out there
- 48:20Speaker 1: that we're gonna get excited about.
- 48:21Speaker 3: Right.
- 48:22Speaker 1: I don't know what we're gonna have to pay him?
- 48:24Speaker 1: What kind of I mean that you threw that name
- 48:27Speaker 1: out there?
- 48:28Speaker 3: We threw him.
- 48:31Speaker 1: I've heard uh Jim Leonard from that was Wisconsin.
- 48:35Speaker 3: I heard uh.
- 48:38Speaker 1: Uh, Purdue coach.
- 48:41Speaker 3: Walters like, oh my god, do you want him?
- 48:44Speaker 5: Oh?
- 48:45Speaker 1: He was, I mean he'd he built Illinois defense up
- 48:48Speaker 1: very fast and they're very very good. A couple of
- 48:49Speaker 1: years ago.
- 48:53Speaker 3: One of the worst coaches I've ever seen.
- 48:55Speaker 2: I understand he was the head coach, not a coordinator.
- 48:58Speaker 1: When it comes to coaches and coordinators, you gotta be
- 49:00Speaker 1: careful on how on on comparing the too, because especially
- 49:04Speaker 1: as a head coach now, you deal with so much
- 49:08Speaker 1: more to where you're not as I mean you can be,
- 49:11Speaker 1: but you're not as ingrained and studying and being involved
- 49:14Speaker 1: in the in the defense, in the offense, and the
- 49:16Speaker 1: position like you are dealing with nil you're dealing with transperport,
- 49:20Speaker 1: or you're dealing with all the conference of realignment. You're
- 49:23Speaker 1: dealing with a lot of crap. Some people think that's
- 49:27Speaker 1: why Dana maybe wants to be an o c because
- 49:29Speaker 1: Dana is a is a crap like you want to
- 49:34Speaker 1: deal with that. He didn't he That's why people think
- 49:37Speaker 1: he may have failed as a head coach. Is he's
- 49:39Speaker 1: like he just all that stuff. It just he isn't
- 49:42Speaker 1: he wants to call plates, he wants as reminded of offense.
- 49:45Speaker 1: That could be the same situation. I don't know. That's
- 49:48Speaker 1: the optimistic me giving my opinion, but that could be
- 49:52Speaker 1: it with a coach like that, And I think there's
- 49:53Speaker 1: other guys out there that will hear that we'll be
- 49:56Speaker 1: excited about when it's announced. The Dana thing, I think
- 50:00Speaker 1: is a sign that says he and then Rule they're
- 50:04Speaker 1: committed to getting this offense figured out. And I think
- 50:10Speaker 1: that gives again hope for well the bowl game, excitement
- 50:16Speaker 1: for the ball game. Now he's got how many practices
- 50:19Speaker 1: do you get for a ball game? Fifteen practices, So
- 50:24Speaker 1: we'll see what we can do there, and then moving
- 50:27Speaker 1: forward like it sounds like it's good. Now here's doomsday
- 50:32Speaker 1: me thinking coming back in is Dana signing this contract
- 50:36Speaker 1: with the thought of what we just talked about earlier.
- 50:41Speaker 1: If it doesn't work out for a Rule, but our
- 50:43Speaker 1: offense is good, Dana becomes our next head coach. And
- 50:48Speaker 1: we mentioned that right when Dana came instility, is that
- 50:53Speaker 1: in the back of his mind and if so oh boy,
- 50:57Speaker 1: like he talked about a culture and disaster and how
- 51:00Speaker 1: this all plays out, like we're in for some fun conversations,
- 51:05Speaker 1: not saying that's the reason behind it. Don't know how
- 51:08Speaker 1: those contract negotiations happen, if it's rule, if it's coming
- 51:11Speaker 1: from even someone above and Troy Dannen and saying, here's
- 51:14Speaker 1: a situation, here's what we're doing. We don't know, we're
- 51:17Speaker 1: not We're not gonna know. Just interesting to think about.
- 51:21Speaker 4: I mean, the offense just to play well enough that
- 51:24Speaker 4: you'd promote him to head coach, that's the thing.
- 51:26Speaker 2: It's like they can't take the team.
- 51:31Speaker 4: These acquired because then it's like, well, they're no good either,
- 51:33Speaker 4: why would we hire them?
- 51:34Speaker 1: You know, it's see so what's funny about that they do?
- 51:38Speaker 1: But what's if we go eight and four, nine and three,
- 51:44Speaker 1: ten and two next year and our offense is we
- 51:48Speaker 1: said it this year in our offensive killer. People are
- 51:50Speaker 1: gonna want Dana to be our head coach?
- 51:53Speaker 2: Oh, I know they wanted it after the Wisconsin Games.
- 51:55Speaker 1: Yeah, so who knows. Gonna be weird whatever happens. I
- 52:02Speaker 1: think the big plus out of all this, guys that
- 52:05Speaker 1: we can't overlook is Dylan is going to be here.
- 52:10Speaker 1: Well I hope, good god, I hope gonna be here
- 52:13Speaker 1: next year. I think not that you can combine this
- 52:16Speaker 1: with this news of Dana getting extended, but I don't
- 52:18Speaker 1: think Dana does it. If he has any inkling that
- 52:20Speaker 1: Dylan's not watch just be completely wrong on that and
- 52:25Speaker 1: breaking news like in two days. But I think that
- 52:30Speaker 1: is the big plus that comes with Dana's staying here
- 52:34Speaker 1: is he knows that he's confident in that. I don't
- 52:36Speaker 1: think Dana does it otherwise. I think he's very upfront
- 52:39Speaker 1: when it comes to that stuff. So after that, now
- 52:45Speaker 1: we're back of like, Okay, let's at least have a
- 52:48Speaker 1: little bit of hope. I'm not saying fire rule yet.
- 52:54Speaker 1: I was there today at one pm. That's just the
- 52:56Speaker 1: world we live in, the emotions, the roller coaster. It's
- 52:59Speaker 1: gonna get worse every year. Oh by the way, Dak,
- 53:02Speaker 1: I'm not sure if you're watching this Monday night game. Yeah,
- 53:06Speaker 1: did you just see Jamis who he.
- 53:09Speaker 3: Threw it to? Nick Menita?
- 53:11Speaker 4: Right?
- 53:12Speaker 1: Had a boy? You knew that an Oklahoma Oklahoma players
- 53:15Speaker 1: on the Bronco six.
- 53:18Speaker 3: Now, of course, of course the pick six.
- 53:21Speaker 4: So I was curious, so I just looked it up.
- 53:23Speaker 4: So it's one point two million annually for Holgerson, but
- 53:27Speaker 4: he's still getting paid out for Houston, right, so.
- 53:29Speaker 1: That's the From what I understand is he's getting the
- 53:33Speaker 1: full Houston payout and the one point two is deducted
- 53:36Speaker 1: from it.
- 53:36Speaker 2: So really, I don't understand why we Why didn't we
- 53:40Speaker 2: pay him that much?
- 53:43Speaker 1: I don't know. Maybe I don't. I don't know. I
- 53:45Speaker 1: don't know what the I agree like, he's almost gonna
- 53:48Speaker 1: pay him nothing. There might be some sort of agreement
- 53:50Speaker 1: that you have median salary or something.
- 53:55Speaker 4: I bet, I bet that is what it is, Like
- 53:57Speaker 4: you can't if you're working in a similar position, it
- 54:00Speaker 4: has to have a similar salary to.
- 54:03Speaker 2: Yeah, that's probably true.
- 54:06Speaker 3: Well, well it's for sure, guys, clear goal number one.
- 54:09Speaker 3: Like you said coming in the off season, keep keep
- 54:12Speaker 3: rolla here. You did lose now what you're running. My
- 54:17Speaker 3: situation is so Urban's gone.
- 54:19Speaker 4: Urban and Ramire are both gone, and the Johnson and
- 54:26Speaker 4: Dowdell are still here.
- 54:27Speaker 1: And I get the Urban things tough, Like Urban's becoming
- 54:31Speaker 1: He's going to be a grad transfer for this upcoming season.
- 54:34Speaker 1: So like, and yeah, Ramier and Dowdell play one somewhere
- 54:37Speaker 1: else they're solid, like five six out of ten. Emmett
- 54:42Speaker 1: looked pretty damn good. The last couple of games, so
- 54:45Speaker 1: that that's a positive. Our offensive line, who were losing
- 54:48Speaker 1: three guys, like Austin said, they played pretty well the
- 54:51Speaker 1: past few games.
- 54:52Speaker 2: Not so much you hate, but Ben Scott, who's pretty
- 54:57Speaker 2: freaking good.
- 55:02Speaker 1: Well, I just think with all of this transfer portal stuff,
- 55:07Speaker 1: and it's fun talking about there's just there's there's gonna
- 55:10Speaker 1: be so many moving parts with everybody right, and and
- 55:15Speaker 1: I think the important thing is keeping the key pieces
- 55:17Speaker 1: that you're trying to build around, which Dac, like you said,
- 55:20Speaker 1: Dylan Royola is that key piece.
- 55:23Speaker 4: If you're lifting out the people that you want to
- 55:25Speaker 4: make sure you keep. Barney Reola say, you're right, probably,
- 55:34Speaker 4: I mean, yep, James Williams, you know, I mean there's
- 55:39Speaker 4: probably the really only handful of guys that are like,
- 55:41Speaker 4: these guys are.
- 55:42Speaker 2: Very important that we keep. Maybe Hertzog, maybe.
- 55:51Speaker 3: It probably leaves your fuck it's over, Like I agree,
- 55:57Speaker 3: like that's the one key piece. If he leaves, I
- 56:00Speaker 3: think it's just completely program program.
- 56:05Speaker 1: I agree like that. Yeah, you want to talk about
- 56:08Speaker 1: complete hope lost, which that was not out of the
- 56:11Speaker 1: question after this game on in my mind, after this
- 56:15Speaker 1: game on for on Friday, So sad, I'm just like,
- 56:19Speaker 1: my god, it could all just fall apart, could be
- 56:22Speaker 1: done that I thought that it very much could be.
- 56:25Speaker 1: And then you know, you start hearing Tony White and
- 56:27Speaker 1: it's like, okay, yeah, like this is this is the
- 56:29Speaker 1: end of Matt rule and let's move on now, Dana
- 56:34Speaker 1: Holgerson maybe save in the day. That's where That's where
- 56:37Speaker 1: I'm at. That's where I ended my and my thoughts
- 56:40Speaker 1: here coming into the podcast. The roller coaster right now
- 56:45Speaker 1: of where we're at.
- 56:46Speaker 3: Well, but like you said, Holgers have not come back
- 56:48Speaker 3: if he didn't know r like, if you had any
- 56:51Speaker 3: feeling all Ryle is leaving even out of sign that.
- 56:54Speaker 2: I think I agree.
- 56:59Speaker 3: After my new was like, oh boy, well is going and.
- 57:03Speaker 4: This ship is gonna said, oh here we go, Chris
- 57:06Speaker 4: Sam McEwan McGuire is respected to remain it and you
- 57:09Speaker 4: in an adjusted role.
- 57:11Speaker 3: There you go.
- 57:13Speaker 1: There, Nana's gonna have Dana's got some some demands that
- 57:18Speaker 1: he's gonna I mean, that's the way he is. He's
- 57:19Speaker 1: gonna have his demands on what he thinks needs to
- 57:21Speaker 1: happen with his offense. That there's there's no doubt about that.
- 57:25Speaker 1: I have no doubt that that's what's that's gonna happen.
- 57:28Speaker 1: So I do, like, let's just see what those are.
- 57:32Speaker 1: We're gonna there's gonna be a lot before the ball game.
- 57:34Speaker 1: I mean, it's just that the time we live in.
- 57:40Speaker 2: Players in the transfer portal can play in the ball game.
- 57:44Speaker 3: Yep.
- 57:44Speaker 2: So that does help because I was like, man, that
- 57:49Speaker 2: it's gonna be a rough shake if the people in
- 57:51Speaker 2: the transfer portal could play it.
- 57:54Speaker 1: It makes it really interesting that all these moving parts
- 58:02Speaker 1: and what players think of it all because it's so different,
- 58:08Speaker 1: it's so new, it's so fresh, Like what what do
- 58:10Speaker 1: you think of a teammate that's leaving but once to
- 58:12Speaker 1: still play? What does that mean?
- 58:13Speaker 2: I bet? I honestly bet.
- 58:14Speaker 4: If I was mad rule and you enter the transfer
- 58:17Speaker 4: portal and I don't think you're coming back, I'm not
- 58:20Speaker 4: playing you in the goal game.
- 58:21Speaker 1: Do you not play them like? Or is it going
- 58:25Speaker 1: to become such a common thing, because again, when you
- 58:27Speaker 1: enter the transfer portal does not mean you've left. It
- 58:30Speaker 1: just means you entered the portal to where you're opening
- 58:32Speaker 1: up your options. That's all that means. As of right now,
- 58:34Speaker 1: I don't know the stat I want to say, it's
- 58:37Speaker 1: at least two thirds ish of people that enter end
- 58:40Speaker 1: up going somewhere, and one third actually didn't come back
- 58:43Speaker 1: and stay. Now that that goes all from big name
- 58:48Speaker 1: to really small names in the portal. So I don't know,
- 58:53Speaker 1: like or is it just a common thing that players
- 58:55Speaker 1: are like okay, like everybody kind of just does it
- 58:57Speaker 1: because you do that, because you open up your options,
- 58:59Speaker 1: because you know that you have like.
- 59:01Speaker 4: A two week window to declare or something like there's
- 59:05Speaker 4: a there's a time period of when you have to
- 59:06Speaker 4: declare you're in the transfer portal.
- 59:09Speaker 1: It's and it's like opening up your your your bid
- 59:15Speaker 1: for who for nil too? Like that's kind of what
- 59:17Speaker 1: it is, is can I get paid more money? And
- 59:20Speaker 1: and this year's even more than last year, more than
- 59:22Speaker 1: the year before. The opportunities that are out there. You're
- 59:26Speaker 1: opening up free agency every year kind of and saying, Okay,
- 59:28Speaker 1: what can I get? Like where are we at? What
- 59:30Speaker 1: program can pay me money?
- 59:32Speaker 2: How?
- 59:32Speaker 1: What's my value? You know, what's my value as a
- 59:35Speaker 1: player monetary wise? And then these college kids are gonna
- 59:39Speaker 1: be able to make the decision, Okay, do I want
- 59:40Speaker 1: to make four hundred thousand here? Do I want to
- 59:43Speaker 1: make three hundred thousand at this program, knowing that your
- 59:47Speaker 1: position and where you're gonna play, all that stuff is
- 59:49Speaker 1: factored in now. It's it's fascinating. Like you talk about
- 59:52Speaker 1: why you leave for a job, Well, it's kind of
- 59:54Speaker 1: what these players are doing to you. Guys. It's very
- 59:57Speaker 1: similar those all those things we talked about, well not
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: too long ago. Players are They're all evaluating the culture,
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: the program, the future, the people around you, the location,
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: the dollar, the money you're getting paid, the function, the
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: role that you're going to play. All of that is
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: what's going through these players' minds as they're making these decisions.
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: As I guess you call him young adults and maybe
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: not quite young adults yet a lot of them aren't.
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: They're still kids.
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: We lost man, all right, Dak What you got on
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: the transfer portal?
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: Well, I was gonna say, on your list of people
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: you should keep very high, should be John Holme?
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: Whoa he missed about it was a bad stack.
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: Okay, I that kick is now on him.
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: You're right, that's interesting. You think he's that good? Do
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: you think he's fixed it?
- 1:00:47Speaker 3: I think yeah, Well, how long has beence you've had
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: a kick or where he comes out your company's gonna
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: make kick, Like towards the end of the year, you
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: weren't worried about missing it.
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: That's true.
- 1:00:56Speaker 4: I mean when he missed the Fielgeal, I was surprised
- 1:00:58Speaker 4: and then he saw a snap. I mean it's probably
- 1:01:01Speaker 4: been since not Drew Brown. Yeah, there's someone.
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: He's kicker of the year, was Big ten kicker of
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: the year, and the next year he was dogs.
- 1:01:10Speaker 3: Off the map.
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't.
- 1:01:14Speaker 3: Yeah, you're special. Now you said machine's gone.
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: Machine's gone, which honestly.
- 1:01:20Speaker 5: Is not that bad of it.
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: Like he loved having every like ten to fifteen kicks
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: just wrap the edge his foot.
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: I mean in the Iowa game too, that are pretty rough.
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: Yeah, that's not that big of a loss. I don't.
- 1:01:38Speaker 5: I think.
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: I think you'll lose a lot of players, but really,
- 1:01:44Speaker 3: I mean, come on, you're six and six. It's like,
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: how much are you losing?
- 1:01:48Speaker 5: Right? You mean?
- 1:01:49Speaker 3: Gat it right back?
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: And that's what like people online are always like like
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: I gotta get rid of the people to losing mentality.
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: I don't know if that's necessarily true, but I mean
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: you're if the argument is is we're losing people and
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: we haven't won with them losing, right, what are you
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: really losing?
- 1:02:07Speaker 5: Like?
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: Can their replacement do the same. I mean, I do
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: feel pretty good about the young players we have. I
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: don't know. I was somewhere between Hunter where I wasn't ready.
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: I didn't even think about firing that role. I don't
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: know how he got that close to that.
- 1:02:20Speaker 3: This morning I got that dark.
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: But you.
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: Can't.
- 1:02:28Speaker 3: You can't fire him on the spot after your DC leaves,
- 1:02:31Speaker 3: like you gotta give him this third year. And what
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: I've heard a lot of Husker fans say is the
- 1:02:39Speaker 3: senior class that's leaving now is Scott Frost last one
- 1:02:41Speaker 3: that had losing mentality. So we'll see they had them leave,
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: they'll change the team.
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: Hold on. Hunter just said accept the new Oh no,
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: I I agree. I think Huskar fancy to chill back out.
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: It was a sad.
- 1:03:09Speaker 5: It was a sad.
- 1:03:10Speaker 4: I mean the four days, it was just a rough
- 1:03:12Speaker 4: four days, including today. I didn't I did not get
- 1:03:15Speaker 4: the same joy as the whole person hire as apparently
- 1:03:17Speaker 4: you and Hunter, because I don't know.
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: I think he's okay.
- 1:03:29Speaker 5: Yeah, I.
- 1:03:33Speaker 3: I just thought because he changed the how quickly he
- 1:03:37Speaker 3: changed the offense. I came in I don't think it's
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: like a home run higher but how quickly he came
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: and changed the offense you obviously know something like and
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: and if he could do that in two games, man
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: as we could do in a full year like I
- 1:03:54Speaker 3: also think. I also think that just shows how bad
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: Hourfield is. So at least you don't have him back
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: on that well all about beer? Is that guy still
- 1:04:01Speaker 3: on your coaching staff?
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: He is still on the coaching staff.
- 1:04:04Speaker 3: No ship, he's staying. Yes, why is he? Craig can't
- 1:04:09Speaker 3: get a job anywhere else. I can't believe that he
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: gets the moaning. He's like, I'm good, just say especially
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: see him on Olgerson day. All right, Well, I.
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: Mean how do you keep him?
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: Like?
- 1:04:21Speaker 4: I mean, you obviously restructure his contract and you keep
- 1:04:27Speaker 4: him as the tight ends coach. You move him to
- 1:04:29Speaker 4: the tight ends wide receiver and Garrett McGuire becomes a consultant,
- 1:04:33Speaker 4: or not a consultant, but an analyst as offensive analyst.
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: It seems kind of funky to have your former oc
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: on staff.
- 1:04:48Speaker 3: He just can't he's but he just can't get a
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: job anywhere else.
- 1:04:51Speaker 5: He sucks.
- 1:04:51Speaker 3: But I can't stand that guy.
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: He was pretty bad. I'm not gonna lie.
- 1:05:02Speaker 3: Well, you want Hunter back on anyone called a pod?
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: Well, I feel like we got it. I sent him
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: the link. He's got to be able to hop back,
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: you can. I can't imagine he won't be able to
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: hop back on. Here we go. We'll see if he
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: actually is able to hop back on. I don't know
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: what else he had to say.
- 1:05:23Speaker 3: I don't either. I'm I'm the only thing I can
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: think of it is we we could switch the basketball
- 1:05:34Speaker 3: team real quick.
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: It was good.
- 1:05:38Speaker 3: What what the hell has happened the last Okay, that's
- 1:05:41Speaker 3: a siegon, but everyone else is scoring too? Like from
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: that first game he Hunter went to, I don't know
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: what has gotten that was they looked terrible that well,
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: their defense look good, their offense looked awful that first game.
- 1:05:53Speaker 3: I don't know what's changed.
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: I thought we were going to be cooked this year.
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: I really did Dune Cookman game for sure. I was like, yeah,
- 1:06:00Speaker 3: you ain't scoring over you're telling me these four hundred points.
- 1:06:03Speaker 3: I'd say, you're lying like and I and they figured
- 1:06:07Speaker 3: out how to use Uh Maya is that the big
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: man's name?
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: Uh Bandmill? Is that you're talking about?
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: The seven three guy. Yeah, yeah, they figured out how
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: to use him on offense, because for what do you
- 1:06:21Speaker 3: go three games, I think a shot, which there's no
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: reason why I should take a shot anywhere besides the dunk.
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: Like I mean, yeah, you start to look through like
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: our one losses Saint Mary's by three.
- 1:06:34Speaker 3: Points and killing people.
- 1:06:37Speaker 4: Yeah, and they've been killing people, And I mean you
- 1:06:40Speaker 4: start looking through our schedule and it's like, right now,
- 1:06:44Speaker 4: the only ranked opponents I guess towards the end of
- 1:06:47Speaker 4: the year we have Wisconsin, Illinois, Oregon Perdue.
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: But that's four ranked opponents. Like it seems pretty stun
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: with the ball.
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: Yeah, I didn't think. I didn't think they're Their schedule
- 1:07:06Speaker 3: looks too bad. Now we will see how good they
- 1:07:08Speaker 3: are coming out of these next two games. Big ten play.
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: Yeah, Michigan State, I don't even know if they're good
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: this year.
- 1:07:14Speaker 3: But like we said, though their non com was easy, Yeah,
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: we didn't expect to create we ought we for sure.
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: I didn't want you expect those Saint Mary Crane game
- 1:07:24Speaker 3: because those were two you could lose. I thought, ohing too,
- 1:07:27Speaker 3: But you weren't expecting one on one out of that.
- 1:07:30Speaker 3: I see take that And now Big ten play. I
- 1:07:32Speaker 3: guess you'll see how it is.
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree. Well any closing Oklahoma thoughts Hunter's not here,
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: you can say whatever you want.
- 1:07:40Speaker 3: A Yeah, they got pounded by LSU. I put some
- 1:07:44Speaker 3: money on that. Oh, forgot to tell you about this.
- 1:07:46Speaker 3: Saturday is the last game. I bet three and a half.
- 1:07:50Speaker 3: Went to bed thinking because I thought I bet three,
- 1:07:53Speaker 3: went to bed think. Oh, I pushed welcome next morning,
- 1:07:55Speaker 3: checked my account one So that was nice. So my
- 1:07:58Speaker 3: mood changed on that game pretty quick. But then I I,
- 1:08:02Speaker 3: Oklahoma got pounded by l SU. That was terrible. What
- 1:08:05Speaker 3: a It's just like Nebraska, what a kick to the
- 1:08:08Speaker 3: dick after after it's like the Braska beats Wisconsin. You
- 1:08:11Speaker 3: do that because we beat Alabama and then just get
- 1:08:15Speaker 3: pounded by l s U. I don't get it.
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: I don't.
- 1:08:18Speaker 3: They're gonna bring Vannables back because the same thing like
- 1:08:20Speaker 3: Florist State, the buyout. I don't know how these places
- 1:08:23Speaker 3: say they're broke like whatever, but they're gonna bring them back.
- 1:08:26Speaker 3: They just hired no new oc today from Washington State,
- 1:08:29Speaker 3: which is what the Venables would be a hell of
- 1:08:32Speaker 3: higher for Nebraska.
- 1:08:33Speaker 5: They got in d C.
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: He's really good at defense offense?
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: Do you want to bring in an outside person? Probably,
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: I guess, But.
