- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to a DM podcast.
- 0:03Speaker 2: We'll try to keep it as nice as we can,
- 0:04Speaker 2: but you might hear the occasional swear word in No Dribble.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Don't tell them Hello and welcome once again to No Dribble,
- 0:23Speaker 2: the podcast where we have a lot of fun talking
- 0:25Speaker 2: about netball but everything else in this great, big world besides.
- 0:28Speaker 2: My name is Carolyn Swindell. I'm a writer and comedian.
- 0:31Speaker 2: I'm here in Sydney and I am with Catherine Coxon.
- 0:33Speaker 3: There's not much netball anymore much.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Well, there's always neckball, just because there wasn't a super
- 0:39Speaker 2: netball game. And we're also joined by.
- 0:41Speaker 4: Liz ls on the North Post of New South Wales.
- 0:44Speaker 4: I'm neither a writer nor a comedian, so there you go.
- 0:47Speaker 2: You are a writer.
- 0:48Speaker 5: I was.
- 0:49Speaker 4: I don't write much anymore though. Do you feel like
- 0:52Speaker 4: I feel like I've got a novel in me? Well,
- 0:54Speaker 4: obviously you did, Carolyn rot and I've got a really
- 0:58Speaker 4: good idea like for the title of it, but I
- 1:00Speaker 4: just can't think of anything like the next one hundred
- 1:02Speaker 4: and twenty thousand words to write.
- 1:04Speaker 2: It's only eighty thousand words, you can, yeah, Oh, not
- 1:07Speaker 2: many novels are one hundred and twenty anymore.
- 1:09Speaker 1: And if you're writing it for me and my attention
- 1:11Speaker 1: span forty one, it's a picture book.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Yes, that's just forty words novella. Are you willing to
- 1:17Speaker 2: share with us what the title of your novel is?
- 1:20Speaker 4: Yeah, no, I'll tell you right because anyone it's not
- 1:24Speaker 4: like it's that exciting. But so Matthew and my husband
- 1:27Speaker 4: used to run a landscape gardening company, and he was
- 1:30Speaker 4: talking to me one day about you know, when you
- 1:32Speaker 4: see a footpath, a concrete footpath, and then there's a
- 1:34Speaker 4: little track that people like cut the corner or they
- 1:37Speaker 4: go from one place.
- 1:38Speaker 2: I know what that's called. What's it called desire lines?
- 1:42Speaker 4: That's right, And so I think there's a novel called
- 1:45Speaker 4: the Desire Line, and I'm just trying to figure out
- 1:48Speaker 4: what it's about, Like is it the obvious thing? Is it,
- 1:50Speaker 4: you know, a bit sort of pulpy romancy, or is
- 1:53Speaker 4: it a bit more than that?
- 1:55Speaker 5: So don't know.
- 1:56Speaker 4: Anyway, I think about it often and what I might
- 1:57Speaker 4: stick in it, But then i'd have to sit down
- 1:59Speaker 4: and write, oh you know, and then you think about
- 2:01Speaker 4: like I like the idea of just.
- 2:03Speaker 5: Sitting and writing and just have the story unfold.
- 2:06Speaker 4: But then when you hear about how writers do this
- 2:07Speaker 4: stuff and they create backstories for their characters and that
- 2:10Speaker 4: sort of thing, I'm like, that's way too much work,
- 2:13Speaker 4: Like did you do that for your book? Well?
- 2:15Speaker 2: I had to in the end. So when I started writing,
- 2:17Speaker 2: and this book took me years because I didn't really
- 2:19Speaker 2: understand the process and I just started writing and it
- 2:21Speaker 2: went It's like, I have no idea where this is going.
- 2:23Speaker 2: This doesn't fit a proper narrative arc, and the like,
- 2:26Speaker 2: I don't know the characters well enough. I had two
- 2:28Speaker 2: female characters and it was like they were way too
- 2:30Speaker 2: much the same. So I had to I had to
- 2:32Speaker 2: really get to know them and step out of the
- 2:34Speaker 2: story and go, well, what is their backstory in order
- 2:37Speaker 2: to understand and how would they speak differently and how
- 2:39Speaker 2: would they phrase things? So, yeah, it was harder than
- 2:41Speaker 2: I expected.
- 2:42Speaker 3: Liz. If you go into your mills and Boonira, I'm
- 2:44Speaker 3: very excited.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Your fabio fame, fifty shades of ellous, I'm.
- 2:53Speaker 5: Not that interesting. Three shades.
- 2:56Speaker 2: One of the shades would have to be that blue, though.
- 3:00Speaker 5: Light blue, navy blue, and royal blue. There you go, there,
- 3:02Speaker 5: did you.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Wear a fancy pants suit on the weekend at all?
- 3:05Speaker 2: Or were you just super cash this past weekend?
- 3:09Speaker 5: I was super cash.
- 3:10Speaker 4: I know there was no super netball on, but I
- 3:12Speaker 4: did have to coach, so I didn't have to, but
- 3:14Speaker 4: I coach my netball team. So did they wear They go, no,
- 3:19Speaker 4: we're coming second. And we played the top of the
- 3:21Speaker 4: table and we are sort of under thirteens and we're
- 3:23Speaker 4: in under fourteen. Small country. You know, things get sort
- 3:26Speaker 4: of put together. So we didn't win. And Catherine, I'm
- 3:30Speaker 4: gonna have to pick your brains. I just need to
- 3:32Speaker 4: get my shooters sort of working, not in parallel anyway.
- 3:38Speaker 5: I've got to sort of think about how I do that.
- 3:39Speaker 4: So we should come as no surprise that my team
- 3:42Speaker 4: all the way down the court is really good defensively,
- 3:43Speaker 4: we'll win.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Back keeps the ball and then no one knows what
- 3:47Speaker 2: to do with it.
- 3:48Speaker 5: Well, I don't know what to do with it. When
- 3:50Speaker 5: they get the ball, I'm like that, and I just
- 3:51Speaker 5: run to a space.
- 3:52Speaker 2: How are going to put it in that circle?
- 3:54Speaker 1: For a small fee, a couple of glasses of wine,
- 3:56Speaker 1: I will venture to your neck of the woods and
- 3:58Speaker 1: help you out.
- 3:59Speaker 5: You are on I might need it.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Did your team have a win on the weekend?
- 4:03Speaker 1: Well, it's a little bit of controversy. Actually, yes we did,
- 4:08Speaker 1: I think, but the other team were scoring and we're
- 4:12Speaker 1: fudging the score.
- 4:14Speaker 5: A big accusation.
- 4:16Speaker 3: No, no, it's not an accusation. Who does that though?
- 4:19Speaker 2: But isn't that why you have two parents standing together?
- 4:21Speaker 1: Oh no that we don't do that, because you trust
- 4:23Speaker 1: it's eights. It's under eights. For God's sake, you wouldn't
- 4:26Speaker 1: imagine that would happen. But we were smashing them, and
- 4:29Speaker 1: so much so that I was saying to the umpire, no,
- 4:32Speaker 1: they can have a throwing, they can have our throwing
- 4:34Speaker 1: and cheering them on and all the rest of it.
- 4:35Speaker 1: And then suddenly at halftime it's even and one of
- 4:39Speaker 1: the parents on our side came out and goes, they're
- 4:42Speaker 1: fudging the thing, and I said, you know what, I
- 4:44Speaker 1: don't even care. We're not effectively keeping score.
- 4:47Speaker 3: It's not going to.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Let's not say anything now, I've got a podcast.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Yeah, so yes, we did win, but no we lost
- 4:54Speaker 1: by one apparently.
- 4:57Speaker 4: But I was about to ask you so in half
- 4:59Speaker 4: as a you don't keep.
- 5:02Speaker 1: No, no, so they keep school. I don't know why
- 5:04Speaker 1: they even do that. I mean, who cares.
- 5:06Speaker 2: So there was a bit of discussion about this in
- 5:07Speaker 2: the Facebook group last week about you know, keeping score
- 5:10Speaker 2: and what and the kids know. You know, even if
- 5:12Speaker 2: we all go, no, we're not keeping scores, it doesn't matter.
- 5:15Speaker 2: The kids know. And some kids are really driven by
- 5:19Speaker 2: the desire to win, and that doesn't make them jerks.
- 5:21Speaker 2: That just that's something that is within them, and it's
- 5:24Speaker 2: sort of like it's a perfectly acceptable way to be.
- 5:27Speaker 2: It's also perfectly acceptable not to be driven to win,
- 5:29Speaker 2: particularly at that age, but it's like they shouldn't be
- 5:31Speaker 2: shamed for wanting to win and wanting to know the
- 5:34Speaker 2: score and whatever. But it is interesting, So.
- 5:38Speaker 3: There you go.
- 5:38Speaker 1: I was like, yeah, I don't care. This is my
- 5:40Speaker 1: first actual weekend. I'm here coaching them. They leave me alone, no.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Drama, please. Well I don't notice that. No one's us,
- 5:47Speaker 2: but the under eleven's had to win on the weekend too.
- 5:49Speaker 3: So well we just assumed they would.
- 5:51Speaker 5: Did you did the sun shine for you?
- 5:53Speaker 2: The sun shine it was beautiful. It was really lovely,
- 5:56Speaker 2: and the sunshine the day after as well. For the
- 5:59Speaker 2: city to serve ninety four people ran and then on
- 6:01Speaker 2: Monday just bucketing down and cold. So at least Sydney
- 6:05Speaker 2: got it right for once rain on a Monday.
- 6:07Speaker 5: So you got to win.
- 6:08Speaker 2: We got to win, win, which is exciting. No, it
- 6:10Speaker 2: wasn't that close in the end. So yeah, the girls
- 6:13Speaker 2: came together. Well so what's done.
- 6:15Speaker 3: See you look what they can do when they get
- 6:17Speaker 3: on court.
- 6:17Speaker 5: Okay, so look at us. We've got the full spread,
- 6:19Speaker 5: a win, a loss, and an on the controversy, A.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Controversy we love that. Maybe Liam can do some research
- 6:26Speaker 2: for us about this.
- 6:29Speaker 1: I don't know if it's going to end up in
- 6:30Speaker 1: the courts like it did with that particularly game.
- 6:36Speaker 5: Hey, I'm speaking of controversy. Catherine.
- 6:39Speaker 4: I saw a story on the weekend that reminded me
- 6:41Speaker 4: so much of you. So when you come to stay
- 6:45Speaker 4: at my house, I live on a farm and my
- 6:47Speaker 4: house is in the middle of a paddock essentially. So
- 6:49Speaker 4: when Catherine comes to stay at my house, she does
- 6:53Speaker 4: a full audit of her room and she looks under everything,
- 6:56Speaker 4: and last time she found some daddy long legs in
- 6:59Speaker 4: her bedroom.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Okay, so she's looking for creatures of the ape creatures variety.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Looking for critters without legs even more, any type of
- 7:08Speaker 1: thing that should be outdoors that is indoors, she's looking
- 7:11Speaker 1: for them.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Yep.
- 7:12Speaker 4: Yeah, so and even when we go on walks, she's
- 7:14Speaker 4: always looking for snakes. And so if you look for
- 7:16Speaker 4: these things, you'll find them. But so Catherine got the
- 7:19Speaker 4: martine and sprayed her whole room, and I thought the
- 7:22Speaker 4: daddy long legs won't kill her, but the chemicals.
- 7:28Speaker 5: So I saw something this.
- 7:30Speaker 4: Week about a bloke in Townsville, I think who set
- 7:34Speaker 4: his car alike because there was a spider.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I get it, completely torched the pagero.
- 7:42Speaker 1: What's your take on that? Would you find that odd?
- 7:45Speaker 1: Like if you found one in the car, what would
- 7:46Speaker 1: you do?
- 7:47Speaker 2: I don't really don't like spiders in the car. I'm
- 7:50Speaker 2: getting used to hunts persons and try to put them
- 7:54Speaker 2: outside rather than kill them.
- 7:56Speaker 5: But did you say hunts person?
- 7:59Speaker 2: Thank you for note it's twenty twenty four. Yes, the
- 8:03Speaker 2: huntsmen's freak me out because they are so erratic in
- 8:05Speaker 2: the way they move, but they're completely harmless, and I
- 8:07Speaker 2: know they're doing a good job. So I'm really trying
- 8:10Speaker 2: to battle my natural instinct, which is to throw a
- 8:13Speaker 2: shoe at them.
- 8:15Speaker 3: You have to get close enough to catch that to
- 8:17Speaker 3: put that outside.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Well, okay, let's be honest. Mostly you take it one
- 8:21Speaker 2: leg down. My husband does a catch and release project
- 8:25Speaker 2: that is under my direct supervision, so I don't have
- 8:27Speaker 2: to get that close to them at all. So but
- 8:29Speaker 2: I completely understand wanting to burn down the house to
- 8:33Speaker 2: get rid of a spider. If I lose one, if
- 8:34Speaker 2: there's one in the house and I don't know where
- 8:36Speaker 2: it is, I'm unlikely to sleep that night.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I get that. I was driving to the airport
- 8:41Speaker 1: one morning. It was four point thirty in the morning,
- 8:43Speaker 1: so it was still dark. So the only light in
- 8:45Speaker 1: my car was as I went under the street lamps. Yeah,
- 8:48Speaker 1: I know, Like, that's it. So I went under one,
- 8:51Speaker 1: and I at the same time had looked in my
- 8:53Speaker 1: rearview mirror and there was a gianormous half the size,
- 8:58Speaker 1: no exaggeration on the back window, the very back window.
- 9:04Speaker 1: So then you're like, oh, my god, is it inside
- 9:06Speaker 1: or outside the car? So I put the rear windscreen
- 9:09Speaker 1: wiper on to see if it would move.
- 9:11Speaker 5: It didn't move.
- 9:12Speaker 3: It was in the car.
- 9:14Speaker 1: So then though because it was dark, I only had
- 9:16Speaker 1: vision of it every time I went under a light,
- 9:20Speaker 1: and I kid you not, we'd gone under maybe three lights,
- 9:23Speaker 1: and by that stage it was on the passenger window.
- 9:26Speaker 1: It had scurried up and was right next to it.
- 9:29Speaker 2: And you've got a plane to catch that. It's not
- 9:31Speaker 2: like I can get out.
- 9:33Speaker 3: And torch my car. Yeah.
- 9:37Speaker 1: So but fortunately there was men, some men on the
- 9:39Speaker 1: roads doing early morning roadwork. And you know that they
- 9:42Speaker 1: have that light that's kind of like a lightsaber like
- 9:44Speaker 1: you would picture Luke Skywalker having. They had those because
- 9:47Speaker 1: they were kind of I don't know what they were doing. Anyway,
- 9:50Speaker 1: I pulled the car over like a crazy person and
- 9:53Speaker 1: jumped out.
- 9:53Speaker 3: Like, there's a spider in my car. There's a spider
- 9:55Speaker 3: in my car. You should have seen the looks on
- 9:58Speaker 3: their faces, like this is it?
- 10:00Speaker 2: I'm giving you now?
- 10:01Speaker 1: Say, how embarrassing for the Sisterhood, except they opened the
- 10:07Speaker 1: door at which time it's scurried out and they all
- 10:10Speaker 1: shut their pants.
- 10:13Speaker 5: Girls.
- 10:14Speaker 1: I was like, okay, there's a bit of validation in this.
- 10:16Speaker 1: And they squished it with their lights over things.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Why didn't they just let it run away?
- 10:20Speaker 3: No, people don't do that, Yeah they do, because then
- 10:24Speaker 3: where is it, like it's dark? Where is it then
- 10:26Speaker 3: at that point they could have been on someone's loop.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Liz, what about you if you encounter a spider? Are
- 10:32Speaker 2: you just joke?
- 10:33Speaker 3: Cool?
- 10:34Speaker 1: Well?
- 10:34Speaker 4: I am now when I when I lived in Sydney,
- 10:36Speaker 4: I wasn't And I remember when we moved into our
- 10:39Speaker 4: first unit, we didn't have flight screens on the windows.
- 10:43Speaker 4: And my dad was love and he was pretty handy,
- 10:45Speaker 4: and there was a you know those paperbark trees, I
- 10:49Speaker 4: swear to god, they just churn out huntsmen spiders. And
- 10:54Speaker 4: so I kept finding these huntsmen spiders in our bathroom
- 10:56Speaker 4: because it's were near the paper lights where the paper
- 10:58Speaker 4: bark tree branched sort of brushed off.
- 11:01Speaker 5: Up against the wall. And I said to my I
- 11:03Speaker 5: was like thirty, Oh, Daddy, those spiners are.
- 11:06Speaker 4: Coming in next minute he'd gone away, and like he
- 11:08Speaker 4: made me a heap of fly screens and he fashioned
- 11:10Speaker 4: the meat and that got rid of them. So I
- 11:12Speaker 4: used to be a bit freaked out by them, because
- 11:14Speaker 4: Mum was always freaked out by them, and when were little,
- 11:17Speaker 4: rather than smash them, because if you if you hit
- 11:19Speaker 4: them and you kill them, and their guts go everywhere.
- 11:22Speaker 3: Care factor.
- 11:23Speaker 4: Oh no, but then you got to clean the guts up.
- 11:25Speaker 4: So like Mum used to try and catch them and
- 11:28Speaker 4: release them. And one day there was one in the
- 11:30Speaker 4: house and my sister, like cat, was always really brave,
- 11:33Speaker 4: so she went and got a tup of weare container
- 11:36Speaker 4: and I had run into my room and shut the door,
- 11:38Speaker 4: and I didn't realize that she'd caught it and released it.
- 11:41Speaker 4: And she caught it and released it, and they went
- 11:43Speaker 4: and put a heap of rubber bands in the tupperware
- 11:45Speaker 4: container and ran into my room and opened the door.
- 11:48Speaker 5: And threw the type of.
- 11:55Speaker 3: How much weeks, Oh, so much.
- 11:58Speaker 4: I was like, it was a freakiest Ah, that's.
- 12:01Speaker 5: What sisters do to each other.
- 12:03Speaker 4: Anyway, after that, I when I moved up here, I thought, right,
- 12:06Speaker 4: I'm not going to pass this on to my kids.
- 12:08Speaker 5: And so whenever we get.
- 12:09Speaker 4: A huntsman in the house, I know it's good because
- 12:11Speaker 4: they're eating like ants.
- 12:13Speaker 5: And that sort of stuff, so there's a place for everything.
- 12:15Speaker 1: So you are completely desensitized now. And the reason I
- 12:19Speaker 1: freak out about snakes up at their place is she's
- 12:22Speaker 1: made the mistake of telling me there's been a couple
- 12:23Speaker 1: in the house that they've found.
- 12:25Speaker 3: Oh no, it's just just tree snake.
- 12:28Speaker 5: I'm like, I don't care, I don't hurt you.
- 12:32Speaker 2: So my natural instinct is to get hysterical and run away.
- 12:35Speaker 2: But because of the kids, you know, it's sort of
- 12:38Speaker 2: like I try to act more. You know, I've passed
- 12:40Speaker 2: on so many of my irrational phobias and now I
- 12:42Speaker 2: have to try to dial it back.
- 12:44Speaker 3: What's another one? Heights?
- 12:45Speaker 2: Both very scared of heights?
- 12:47Speaker 4: Yeah, well, are your kids scared of heights?
- 12:50Speaker 1: Now?
- 12:50Speaker 2: My son is, but again, he just did a high
- 12:52Speaker 2: rapes course at camp recently and conquered it and felt
- 12:54Speaker 2: really good, and so we're just we're all trying to
- 12:57Speaker 2: deal with it and not be controlled by But yeah,
- 12:59Speaker 2: I have quite rational fear of heights.
- 13:01Speaker 3: It's because you don't have any again with sorry.
- 13:07Speaker 4: It's why do you have such an irrational fear of heights?
- 13:11Speaker 3: And I don't know. I don't think it's so much heights.
- 13:14Speaker 2: I jump up on a netball court and you think
- 13:16Speaker 2: will I be able to get down safely?
- 13:19Speaker 3: That's why I chose not to have too much air
- 13:21Speaker 3: in my game. No, I don't know.
- 13:23Speaker 1: My fear is around hurting, like something going pear shaped
- 13:27Speaker 1: and hurting myself so it's like roller coasters or the
- 13:30Speaker 1: cable card and table mountain in South Africa. Anything that
- 13:33Speaker 1: you think, oh my god, this could break, I can die.
- 13:35Speaker 1: That's my fear.
- 13:36Speaker 2: What about flying?
- 13:37Speaker 1: If I didn't fly every other weekend, I would be
- 13:40Speaker 1: freaked out.
- 13:41Speaker 3: So it's ridiculous.
- 13:42Speaker 2: I'm fine with flying it sort of same as I don't.
- 13:45Speaker 2: I don't like roller coasters. I will do them, but
- 13:47Speaker 2: mostly I'm just sitting there thinking, very soon it will
- 13:50Speaker 2: be over and I can say that I have done this.
- 13:51Speaker 2: So but I do them because you know, again trying
- 13:54Speaker 2: to roll model stuff from do kids do stuff with
- 13:56Speaker 2: the kids. I don't like it, but I will do it.
- 13:58Speaker 2: But I can go on and play, no problem at all.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Liza is like that we went to wett and Wild
- 14:02Speaker 1: in the Gold Coast not that long ago, and there's
- 14:05Speaker 1: one that is like straight down. You get in the
- 14:07Speaker 1: capsule and the floor drops out from underneath you and
- 14:10Speaker 1: Evelyn wanted to go on it, didn't she, And You're like, okay,
- 14:12Speaker 1: let's go. I'm thinking if my kids said that, I'd
- 14:14Speaker 1: be like, off you go.
- 14:16Speaker 2: Did you see that tree thing that she and Evelyn
- 14:18Speaker 2: climbed when they were in Western Australia. What was that, Liz,
- 14:21Speaker 2: That giant tree with just metal spikes out the side.
- 14:24Speaker 4: Yeah, that did freak out a little bit. The Bisentennaial Tree.
- 14:27Speaker 4: It's down near Pemberton, that's the name of the place.
- 14:31Speaker 4: So this tree, I think they've closed it since we did.
- 14:34Speaker 2: It, but that would be a sensible thing to do.
- 14:37Speaker 5: Like, it's unbelievable that it's still open.
- 14:39Speaker 4: It's literally just spikes and then there's a bit of
- 14:41Speaker 4: a like a metal mesh around behind you.
- 14:43Speaker 5: But you're hardly going to fall off backwards. All I
- 14:45Speaker 5: could think about it was if we fall off sort
- 14:47Speaker 5: of downwards.
- 14:48Speaker 4: But Evelyn started and she climbed, and she's always been
- 14:51Speaker 4: like this. There's a tree climb you can do up
- 14:53Speaker 4: in the Hintland and the Gold Coast, and when she
- 14:54Speaker 4: was like four, she climbed up it and I just.
- 14:57Speaker 5: Sort of hold her like onto a jumper as she went.
- 15:00Speaker 5: We should have stoped them, but I'm not that good
- 15:01Speaker 5: a pairent. I'm like, yeah, yeah, we'll all go up.
- 15:03Speaker 4: So her and I went up, and I started to
- 15:04Speaker 4: freak out a little bit as we got really high.
- 15:06Speaker 4: And then you get up to the top of the train,
- 15:08Speaker 4: it used to be used as a fire lookout, and
- 15:10Speaker 4: there's this whole platform and I just got down and
- 15:12Speaker 4: I'm on the platform like holding on to it.
- 15:15Speaker 1: She was just standing up on safety harnesses or anything, not.
- 15:19Speaker 4: A safety not even anyone there supervising. Like it's I
- 15:22Speaker 4: love it though, because it's so like what the world
- 15:25Speaker 4: used to be.
- 15:26Speaker 5: Like that was it when we were little.
- 15:27Speaker 4: Yeah, when we were so in nine to eighty two,
- 15:30Speaker 4: my parents took us around Australia in the caravan and
- 15:32Speaker 4: that was there then, And it's like the last remaining
- 15:35Speaker 4: bit of just like old school stuff with no supervision.
- 15:39Speaker 4: You don't buy tickets, there's no safety. You just clamber
- 15:42Speaker 4: up it and you just like you climbing to the
- 15:44Speaker 4: top of this enormous tree and you're massively high in
- 15:47Speaker 4: the air, not a safety harness, insight.
- 15:49Speaker 5: It's fantastic.
- 15:50Speaker 3: Don't you love the good old days?
- 15:52Speaker 1: Think about the really trampolines that didn't have any safety
- 15:55Speaker 1: anything on them. I s fell on those metal stretchy
- 15:59Speaker 1: bits and.
- 16:00Speaker 4: Yeah, and you know, like we bought the safest trampoline
- 16:03Speaker 4: known to human kind, and I still managed to double
- 16:06Speaker 4: bout Zeville and a break her arm.
- 16:07Speaker 5: In it, so you know, you can.
- 16:08Speaker 4: Take all the safety perent cautions that you like, but
- 16:12Speaker 4: you know it doesn't protect you all the time.
- 16:14Speaker 2: I work with a great comedian, Shawn Woodland Woody, and
- 16:16Speaker 2: he's got a bit about we now have a generation
- 16:19Speaker 2: of people in our army and police who've never been
- 16:21Speaker 2: on a playground that didn't have soft fall.
- 16:24Speaker 3: And so that's a good point.
- 16:28Speaker 5: That's so true.
- 16:30Speaker 2: So something that was scary on the weekend was there
- 16:32Speaker 2: was no netball. So it's sort of like I wanted
- 16:34Speaker 2: to ask you guys how you coped. But then it
- 16:37Speaker 2: occurred to me because I watched some of the others.
- 16:39Speaker 2: There was other sport on on the weekend, and you
- 16:41Speaker 2: notice but the Olympians preparing for their big event, and
- 16:46Speaker 2: it's been a buddy cracking Olympic meat for us all
- 16:49Speaker 2: but big match day. I wanted to ask you guys,
- 16:51Speaker 2: say you had a test match that started at seven
- 16:53Speaker 2: o'clock at night, what do you do? How do you
- 16:55Speaker 2: spend that day? What's your prep? How do you not
- 16:58Speaker 2: spend your day freaking out about it?
- 17:00Speaker 4: It is a long day when you have a night match,
- 17:02Speaker 4: it's a long day.
- 17:03Speaker 5: So back in the olden days.
- 17:05Speaker 4: When we first started to play for the Swift, we
- 17:08Speaker 4: played at seven o'clock on a Friday night. But I'd
- 17:10Speaker 4: go to work all day and sort of clock add
- 17:12Speaker 4: at about two o'clock.
- 17:13Speaker 5: And come home and have some lunch.
- 17:14Speaker 4: But when you're on tour, we always trained in the morning,
- 17:18Speaker 4: and it was always a bit of a punish because
- 17:19Speaker 4: you're like, ah, but then it actually takes up time.
- 17:21Speaker 4: So you get up, you have your breaky, you go
- 17:23Speaker 4: and train, you come home, might have a little rest,
- 17:26Speaker 4: have some lunch, and then it's really about how you
- 17:28Speaker 4: spend the afternoon. But the key used to not play
- 17:31Speaker 4: the game in your head before you get out on court.
- 17:34Speaker 4: And that's just about distracting yourself, having a wander around
- 17:38Speaker 4: reading a book. So you got to be busy, but
- 17:41Speaker 4: stay off your legs, you know. So we weren't allowed
- 17:43Speaker 4: to go for shopping for hours and hours on end
- 17:45Speaker 4: or anything like that. So it is about distracting your
- 17:48Speaker 4: brain more than anything else.
- 17:50Speaker 1: We did used to do, you know, like in the afternoon,
- 17:52Speaker 1: there'd be a little group that would go and do
- 17:54Speaker 1: coffee and whatever else. I used to love game day
- 17:57Speaker 1: just because it was a day with your teammates, that
- 17:59Speaker 1: was a bit cruisy. You know, you can have a
- 18:01Speaker 1: little afternoon nap if you wanted one, and then we'd
- 18:04Speaker 1: all get up and do our little coffee walk and
- 18:06Speaker 1: a little bit of a stretch. Shooters would go to
- 18:08Speaker 1: the post during the day even if we didn't train.
- 18:11Speaker 2: But remember you're going to say shooters would go to
- 18:13Speaker 2: the pub during the day. Well, got to be relaxed.
- 18:18Speaker 1: But remember before we were professional, we would fly the
- 18:22Speaker 1: day of the game, go straight to the venue to train,
- 18:26Speaker 1: and then I don't even think we checked into a
- 18:28Speaker 1: hotel because quite often we would stay at the court
- 18:32Speaker 1: and then play the game and fly home because we
- 18:34Speaker 1: had no money for all the extra bits and pieces.
- 18:37Speaker 1: So it used to be a long, long, painful day,
- 18:40Speaker 1: didn't it.
- 18:40Speaker 4: Yeah, you've got to draw the line between like making
- 18:44Speaker 4: sure that you're rested and you're not being too active,
- 18:46Speaker 4: but they're not sitting around thinking about all the things
- 18:49Speaker 4: that like in the game. So you get on the
- 18:51Speaker 4: court and you're exhausted from playing the game in your head.
- 18:53Speaker 5: But Kathy, I remember when we used to it with
- 18:56Speaker 5: the Swifts. Jan troya manager.
- 18:58Speaker 4: She'd go at shopping and she get all these you know,
- 19:00Speaker 4: really you know, nice little treats, and so eventually everyone
- 19:03Speaker 4: is just wandering to her room and talk, smack, play
- 19:05Speaker 4: some cards.
- 19:06Speaker 5: Catherine and I played Rummy.
- 19:07Speaker 3: Cub until I reckon.
- 19:09Speaker 4: We conservatively played about fifteen thousand games of Rummy Cub
- 19:13Speaker 4: just to pass the time. So the worst was things
- 19:15Speaker 4: like at a World Cup, because you can't go and
- 19:18Speaker 4: do too much, like particularly when were at the World
- 19:20Speaker 4: Cup in Jamaica, we couldn't sort of go outside of
- 19:22Speaker 4: the hotel compound.
- 19:24Speaker 5: And this was in the.
- 19:25Speaker 4: Days before there were mobile phones, right, so you actually
- 19:27Speaker 4: had to talk to each other, play Rummy Cub, weren't
- 19:30Speaker 4: allowed to sun bake because you could have been the
- 19:31Speaker 4: sun because it would drain you. So there's like there's
- 19:34Speaker 4: so you just have to get into little routines and
- 19:36Speaker 4: it is about just hanging out with your teammates and
- 19:39Speaker 4: going for a coffee.
- 19:40Speaker 1: The absolute best thing ever those because we did often
- 19:43Speaker 1: go to the Caribbean, didn't we to play and to
- 19:45Speaker 1: train and all that sort of stuff, And the best
- 19:47Speaker 1: place ever to have jet lag. Elizabeth Ellis is Barbados, Barbadeos.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Lisa and I were up at god knows what time
- 19:55Speaker 1: every morning four o'clock every morning.
- 19:57Speaker 3: Are you awake?
- 19:58Speaker 1: Are you wake?
- 20:00Speaker 3: Should we go for a bodyboard? And we'd just get
- 20:02Speaker 3: up and go with it. We're in paradise, would you
- 20:05Speaker 3: try and fight it?
- 20:07Speaker 1: We'd be down there in the surf long before anybody
- 20:09Speaker 1: else woke up.
- 20:10Speaker 4: Yeah, And it didn't count towards our half hour outside
- 20:13Speaker 4: like in the sun that Jill McIntosh made us like.
- 20:15Speaker 4: She was like, I'm fair enough preparing for a World
- 20:18Speaker 4: Cup And she's like, right, you can't be in the
- 20:19Speaker 4: sun for longer than a half hour because we're up early.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Nobody knew never happened, and it wasn't sunny because it
- 20:25Speaker 1: was still early.
- 20:27Speaker 3: Who's the worst roommate you ever had? On too? You
- 20:30Speaker 3: can't say me, Ah, I don't know that I had
- 20:33Speaker 3: a worst roommate. I come on, there's some interesting ones. Anyway.
- 20:37Speaker 1: I am roomed with one particular player who went into
- 20:40Speaker 1: the bathroom and came out brushing her teeth, chatting to me.
- 20:42Speaker 3: I was like, are you right, she's liked well, so
- 20:44Speaker 3: that's my toothbrush. She said, that's not.
- 20:48Speaker 1: That's mine and her screen and mine's like fluoro pick.
- 20:51Speaker 1: You could not have got them wrong. But also people
- 20:54Speaker 1: that were really heavy sleepers and sleep walkers that would
- 20:58Speaker 1: get up and gether TOI a litt or one of
- 21:00Speaker 1: them came back and got into bed with me one night,
- 21:05Speaker 1: one fell out of bed.
- 21:06Speaker 3: There's been sleep Walking's terrifying.
- 21:08Speaker 1: Yeah, really really scary. Thank god, I've done that.
- 21:12Speaker 5: Kid's ever done that. So they walked.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Harber does every now and then. And you can tell
- 21:17Speaker 1: because if she runs into my room in the middle
- 21:19Speaker 1: of the night, does she runs You can hear it
- 21:21Speaker 1: coming because she doesn't like the dark. But sometimes I'll
- 21:24Speaker 1: open eyes and she's just standing there because she's asleep.
- 21:26Speaker 1: So she's just quietly walked in, very calm, like okay,
- 21:30Speaker 1: let's go back to bed, and she won't argue, and
- 21:32Speaker 1: she'll just go straight back to bed, and you're like, wow,
- 21:33Speaker 1: she's still asleep.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Yeah, we've had it a couple of times, and it is.
- 21:36Speaker 2: It's quite freaky, isn't it. But you think about these
- 21:38Speaker 2: places where it's sub zero temperatures outside and people let
- 21:41Speaker 2: themselves out of the house in the middle of the night,
- 21:43Speaker 2: It's like, it's really dangerous. Stuff. On that cheery note, Hey,
- 21:49Speaker 2: we actually have an exciting announcement at the end of
- 21:52Speaker 2: this episode that we should have talked about earlier, but
- 21:57Speaker 2: we'll come to that. I want to talk about what's
- 22:00Speaker 2: happening with Sun Corps, supernet Ball, signings, retirements and whispers,
- 22:03Speaker 2: et cetera. But I have to tell you, guys, I
- 22:05Speaker 2: had a massive celebrity encounter on the weekend that I
- 22:08Speaker 2: think is at least equal to your Dave grol.
- 22:11Speaker 3: Oh my god, no, ways, it's.
- 22:14Speaker 5: Better to be good.
- 22:15Speaker 2: Oh, it's good. It's good.
- 22:16Speaker 1: When we say encounter, was there, you know, like a
- 22:19Speaker 1: Sue Gordian story.
- 22:21Speaker 2: Was it passion of this particular No? No, And you'll
- 22:24Speaker 2: understand immediately why when I tell you, but I was
- 22:27Speaker 2: in Newtown. Guess you'll never guess, you will never. I
- 22:31Speaker 2: promise you you will never get though.
- 22:34Speaker 3: Do we know them.
- 22:35Speaker 2: It's as famous as Dave Grohl.
- 22:37Speaker 3: So we can't get let us get.
- 22:40Speaker 2: Well, you could try, but you know we're going to
- 22:43Speaker 2: be here forever and you won't get it. Okay, Well,
- 22:46Speaker 2: now I feel like we've wrecked it by the way.
- 22:48Speaker 2: But anyway, I was in Newtown on the weekend and
- 22:51Speaker 2: I met a French bulldog named Dave Growl. Oh god,
- 23:00Speaker 2: oh no.
- 23:01Speaker 5: That.
- 23:03Speaker 2: Excited And then how good. Wasn't at the end, right,
- 23:11Speaker 2: Dave Growle, fantastic.
- 23:12Speaker 3: I do love people that do that though. That's cool cute.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Okay, is that your story or is there actually we
- 23:19Speaker 1: know that.
- 23:20Speaker 2: It's pretty good. Okay, let's talk about sun Cops Superple.
- 23:28Speaker 2: So we are in the player signing period and there's
- 23:31Speaker 2: been some big announcements and I'm just wondering, Cat, whether
- 23:33Speaker 2: you've got me whispers you can share with us.
- 23:36Speaker 1: The two biggest ones thus far, both for the Queensland
- 23:40Speaker 1: Firebirds and two internationals. So we've got a Uganda in
- 23:44Speaker 1: Shekraane Mary Cholock, who is twenty seven two hundred and
- 23:49Speaker 1: one centimeters, so they've subbed in for Daniel Walla White
- 23:53Speaker 1: beautifully there and she's a superstar. Uganda came fifth at
- 23:57Speaker 1: the World Cup, so they've got some brilliant at the
- 24:00Speaker 1: moment they're going so well there. She's only the second
- 24:03Speaker 1: Ugand and to play in the sun Cop Supernepple after
- 24:05Speaker 1: Piece Poscrobe Proskovia.
- 24:07Speaker 3: Easy for me to say.
- 24:09Speaker 5: Yeah, she played for Sunshine Cay slantin, didn't.
- 24:11Speaker 3: She She did Peace yeap.
- 24:13Speaker 1: And then the other one they announced a couple of
- 24:15Speaker 1: days later was immage and Allison so a English rose
- 24:19Speaker 1: twenty six forty three caps for the Roses, and she'll
- 24:23Speaker 1: be a brilliant mid quarter little sub right in there
- 24:25Speaker 1: instead of Kim Revellion who's announced her retirement.
- 24:29Speaker 3: How good's that?
- 24:30Speaker 5: It is?
- 24:30Speaker 2: Exciting, isn't it. I thought there would be more of
- 24:32Speaker 2: a flood of announcements by now, but you know, I
- 24:34Speaker 2: guess they're coming. We've still got another weakish.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Yeah, it'd be very interesting because I guess a lot
- 24:39Speaker 1: of those potential internationals will be getting pulled in a
- 24:43Speaker 1: few different directions from clubs that want them, although as
- 24:46Speaker 1: we saw from that list that was up on Facebook,
- 24:48Speaker 1: there's not a whole heap of spots in teams. Sad
- 24:52Speaker 1: to see Laura Sherran announce her time at the way.
- 24:56Speaker 2: What exciting for her and what an ending to her career.
- 24:59Speaker 1: Fact a Zillian player she is because she first debuted
- 25:03Speaker 1: in National Netball League in twenty ten with the Firebirds
- 25:07Speaker 1: and then she didn't get another contract until twenty and seventeen. Wow,
- 25:11Speaker 1: So she was in the wasteland for such a long
- 25:15Speaker 1: time until the Lightning picked her up and then she
- 25:17Speaker 1: ends a career with three premierships.
- 25:18Speaker 3: How goods are fantastic, What a legend.
- 25:20Speaker 1: I hope she has a fabulous retirement and enjoys a
- 25:24Speaker 1: bit of downtime.
- 25:25Speaker 2: I am a little worried though, with her retiring and
- 25:27Speaker 2: it's still being unclear what's happening with Kelsey Brown. Will
- 25:32Speaker 2: there be anyone in the one sixty centimeter range playing
- 25:35Speaker 2: in sun Court super Netball next year? Wait and see
- 25:39Speaker 2: I get a caller. Maybe. Well, I told you that's
- 25:41Speaker 2: more about the dream coaching side. Although did you see
- 25:44Speaker 2: so the Dribblers were waiting for you to start the
- 25:46Speaker 2: discussion on Facebook about the dream team, so they started
- 25:49Speaker 2: their own.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Which I know I thought they were going to start,
- 25:51Speaker 1: and I was just going to jump in. Sorry, guys,
- 25:53Speaker 1: I'm mad.
- 25:54Speaker 2: Yeah, but there is some hot debate there. But I
- 25:56Speaker 2: note that some of the Thunderbirds fans are just saying, well,
- 25:58Speaker 2: it just has to be all the Thunderbirds players. They
- 26:00Speaker 2: won back to back premierships and it's so yeah, but
- 26:04Speaker 2: they didn't win every single game in the season, so
- 26:06Speaker 2: there are other players on other teams who are very excellent.
- 26:11Speaker 2: So anyway, as long as Georgie Horges is in there,
- 26:14Speaker 2: three or four times.
- 26:15Speaker 5: Yeah, but she can't play all the positions, Catherine.
- 26:17Speaker 3: She could play at least three or four of them.
- 26:20Speaker 4: I do want to ask you about the new signing
- 26:23Speaker 4: for the five Birds, Mary two hundred and one centimeters.
- 26:27Speaker 5: She's pretty tall. Are you worried that we're seeing the
- 26:30Speaker 5: end of the moving goal shooter?
- 26:33Speaker 3: No?
- 26:33Speaker 1: I think if they signed a two hundred and one
- 26:35Speaker 1: centimeter goal attack or their whole attack line was tall. Yes,
- 26:40Speaker 1: but I think every team has got one super tall
- 26:44Speaker 1: strike shooter, don't they.
- 26:45Speaker 5: Except for the Swifts.
- 26:47Speaker 1: I think Carolyn, you have had a monster weekend. There's
- 26:50Speaker 1: been no netball, and thank god really because you wouldn't
- 26:53Speaker 1: have been able to fit it in.
- 26:54Speaker 2: No, I'm wrecked. It's been a big couple of weekends
- 26:56Speaker 2: of comedy for me. I had the comedy still run,
- 26:58Speaker 2: and then this last weekend I was Thirsty night Lake mcquarie,
- 27:01Speaker 2: Friday night, Blue Mountains, Saturday night Cayama. And it's a
- 27:03Speaker 2: little bit like the pre professional test netle days because
- 27:07Speaker 2: we were just bus in and bus out.
- 27:08Speaker 1: So why would they schedule them Lake mcquarie to Blue Mountains.
- 27:13Speaker 3: Well, there be further apart.
- 27:14Speaker 2: Yeah, but there's sort of two two and a half
- 27:17Speaker 2: hours from Sydney, so you know we're in and out.
- 27:20Speaker 2: It's taxing, but it's like that is this part of
- 27:22Speaker 2: the Sydney Comedy Festival showcase. So they take a different
- 27:25Speaker 2: show on the road and go to various different places,
- 27:30Speaker 2: fabulous shows like I did one recently at Penrith Panthers
- 27:33Speaker 2: for nine hundred people, which is just fantastic, huge. You know,
- 27:36Speaker 2: it is still Sydney, but that's part of the showcase.
- 27:38Speaker 2: But yeah, it's about getting comedy out of the Inner
- 27:40Speaker 2: West and the usual big theaters right in the center
- 27:42Speaker 2: of town, and the locals get right behind it. They're
- 27:45Speaker 2: always sell outs. It's absolutely fabulous.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Is there a particular place that's a nightmare to do
- 27:49Speaker 1: shows because it's like, I don't know, an unruly crowd
- 27:52Speaker 1: or they heckle or m well.
- 27:55Speaker 2: I always love performing at the Sydney Comedy Store, but
- 27:57Speaker 2: Friday before last they were animals. Yeah, just and it
- 28:01Speaker 2: was partly heckling but more just people having their own
- 28:05Speaker 2: parties going on during the shows. And it's like, guys,
- 28:08Speaker 2: if you're that drunk, just leave and you know, back
- 28:11Speaker 2: and forth to the toilets all night. It's like, okay,
- 28:14Speaker 2: someone's bought some cocaine. It's like, could you just stop it,
- 28:16Speaker 2: like go be here or don't be here. But two
- 28:19Speaker 2: people vomited on the carpet. It was just anything like it.
- 28:23Speaker 2: The bar staff, the poor buggers were oh my goodness.
- 28:26Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, on your road trips, like a road
- 28:29Speaker 4: trips with comedians funny or you just all sit there
- 28:32Speaker 4: in moro silace.
- 28:34Speaker 2: No, no, there's some good chats. But I think there
- 28:37Speaker 2: is a bit of pressure for everyone to bring their
- 28:39Speaker 2: a game conversationally. So but what we did was a
- 28:41Speaker 2: lot of quizzes from the Sydney Morning Herald Good Weekend,
- 28:44Speaker 2: which was great.
- 28:45Speaker 1: Do you feel that though, like when you're talking to people,
- 28:47Speaker 1: do you feel there's an amount of pressure on you
- 28:48Speaker 1: to bring a little something like to be funny all
- 28:51Speaker 1: the time?
- 28:52Speaker 2: Look more so now quite often when I meet people
- 28:55Speaker 2: and they go, you're a comedy, say something funny, it's
- 28:57Speaker 2: like you're an idiot. So you're not paying me for
- 29:02Speaker 2: this conversation. So no, it's generally what my response is.
- 29:06Speaker 2: But if you want to throw me a fiver, no,
- 29:10Speaker 2: I got a knock knock joke for you for five bucks.
- 29:13Speaker 2: Yes it was. It was a big weekend, but I
- 29:15Speaker 2: didn't you know, I wasn't able to watch any netball
- 29:17Speaker 2: on my phone, which was a which was a shame.
- 29:23Speaker 3: So can we tell our news? Can we tell our news?
- 29:26Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 29:26Speaker 2: Can you tell our news? It's exciting, it's so exciting. Actually,
- 29:30Speaker 2: this is really exciting.
- 29:32Speaker 3: It actually is, Dribblers. We're not like because we did
- 29:34Speaker 3: talk it.
- 29:34Speaker 2: This is this is better than the Dave Growl story.
- 29:38Speaker 2: This is legit exciting.
- 29:40Speaker 3: So exciting news. I'll need another pen so I can
- 29:42Speaker 3: do a drumma on.
- 29:43Speaker 5: Ready.
- 29:46Speaker 1: We are having a live event, yes, So on the
- 29:53Speaker 1: twenty second of September, Dribblers, there is a Test match
- 29:57Speaker 1: in Sydney. Australia is playing the England and we thought
- 30:02Speaker 1: just prior we would do a live event just across
- 30:04Speaker 1: the road in Olympic Park so you can come.
- 30:07Speaker 3: And see us and chat with us and meet us.
- 30:09Speaker 3: And we're very excited about it.
- 30:12Speaker 1: So tickets will go on someone on the twenty second
- 30:14Speaker 1: of August YEP, which is the same time as tickets
- 30:17Speaker 1: for yeah match gone the.
- 30:18Speaker 2: Same day, the same day that the Test ticket's gone,
- 30:20Speaker 2: So you do not get a Test ticket with this ticket.
- 30:22Speaker 2: It's going to be ninety nine dollars. We're having an event.
- 30:25Speaker 2: It will be all ages. But you've got to make
- 30:27Speaker 2: a decision for yourself whether you think your kids can be.
- 30:30Speaker 2: If you don't think they're right to listen to the podcast,
- 30:32Speaker 2: they're not right to come to this event. But yeah,
- 30:34Speaker 2: we'll have some food, we'll have some drinks, we'll have
- 30:36Speaker 2: some fun and yeah, we would love to see that.
- 30:38Speaker 2: But tickets will go and sale next week. So we'll
- 30:40Speaker 2: do a reminder again and let you know how to
- 30:45Speaker 2: buy tickets and a link and things will go in
- 30:48Speaker 2: all the places. Yeah, I know this sounds like a
- 30:50Speaker 2: well oiled machine, doesn't it, But we do. But it
- 30:54Speaker 2: will be Sunday, the twenty second of September at Sydney
- 30:57Speaker 2: Olympic Park at the Locker Room from eleven to of
- 31:00Speaker 2: one thirty ish, and the gates will open for the
- 31:02Speaker 2: game at about two so that you can move across
- 31:04Speaker 2: to their enjoy everything at the precinct and enjoy the game.
- 31:07Speaker 2: And oh, that's going to be great.
- 31:09Speaker 1: It's going to be so fun. Right, We've got our
- 31:11Speaker 1: good stories ready for you.
- 31:12Speaker 2: That's our big announcement. So other things that have happened
- 31:15Speaker 2: on the week and I really appreciate dribblers pointing stuff
- 31:18Speaker 2: out to us on Facebook, particularly about stuff that's happened,
- 31:21Speaker 2: and this is a great one. So we have a
- 31:22Speaker 2: big shout out to the under thirteen and under eleven
- 31:25Speaker 2: netball teams from bar Colden Netball Association who traveled seven
- 31:29Speaker 2: hundred kilometers each way from bar Colden to compete at
- 31:33Speaker 2: the Capricorn Coast Netball Carnival on the weekend. Now, we've
- 31:35Speaker 2: talked about the cap Coast Netball Association before and these
- 31:38Speaker 2: are huge events and this was the one that they
- 31:41Speaker 2: had to close it off after two days because they
- 31:42Speaker 2: had one hundred and forty teams registered anyway, so Bar
- 31:46Speaker 2: Colden sent two of those teams. The under thirteen Barkie
- 31:49Speaker 2: Storm finished on top and undefeated in their pool, with
- 31:52Speaker 2: the under eleven Barkie Geckos finishing third in their pool
- 31:55Speaker 2: on a three way points tie for the top three.
- 31:58Speaker 2: Not bad for a small club from out Backeens. Big
- 32:00Speaker 2: shout out to the coaches Rachel Betchen's and Lanise Jarling.
- 32:05Speaker 5: Yeah that's amazing.
- 32:07Speaker 2: Yeah, it's so good to see and we do appreciate
- 32:09Speaker 2: these types of shout outs. Thank you very much. Dribblers
- 32:12Speaker 2: for letting us know that was that so great work
- 32:17Speaker 2: from the Bar Cordon Netball Association. Now every week we
- 32:20Speaker 2: do a shout out here we have Win Beneath our
- 32:22Speaker 2: Wings where we acknowledge those people who are keeping our
- 32:25Speaker 2: game alive at the community level. We accept nominations. We
- 32:29Speaker 2: are really keen to hear your nominations, particularly if we
- 32:32Speaker 2: get some voice notes, some brief voice notes. Please, But
- 32:36Speaker 2: can I propose and we'll have a photo on me? Oh,
- 32:40Speaker 2: this is the happiest day of my life.
- 32:42Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 32:45Speaker 2: Did it really? If I didn't film it and put
- 32:47Speaker 2: it on Instagram? Though, well, how yeah, okay, you look
- 32:52Speaker 2: like you you get down on one day? Sorry, okay,
- 32:58Speaker 2: So can I pose something and we will have a
- 33:01Speaker 2: quick vote on it that we actually just go straight
- 33:04Speaker 2: to a nomination for Rachel Betchin's and Denise Jarling from
- 33:07Speaker 2: the Bar called the Netball Association, the coaches of these
- 33:10Speaker 2: two teams and say, you guys are win beneath our
- 33:12Speaker 2: Wings this week.
- 33:13Speaker 3: All those in favor I by fantastic.
- 33:17Speaker 2: Great, So those are and then I get the wine
- 33:19Speaker 2: voucher obviously for nominating, and I just.
- 33:23Speaker 3: Get on this train. So they get two scrunchies, they.
- 33:26Speaker 2: Get a scrunchy. Yeah, God, absolutely, Sokara, I'm going to
- 33:30Speaker 2: need to ask you for some addresses. But we are
- 33:34Speaker 2: on the hunt for some of our win Beneath our wingers.
- 33:36Speaker 2: We are trying to contact people. We're trying to track
- 33:38Speaker 2: you down. I still have a backlog of scrunches. Most
- 33:41Speaker 2: of them are out the door, but some of them
- 33:43Speaker 2: we are hunting down people and postal addresses. So if
- 33:46Speaker 2: you do make a nomination, it would be awesome if
- 33:49Speaker 2: you made sure that we had either your phone number
- 33:52Speaker 2: or your email address, or preferably here's the my nominee
- 33:55Speaker 2: and their postal address and their surname. That would would
- 33:58Speaker 2: help us. We need a secretary we do currently it's
- 34:01Speaker 2: me and that's ye. Do you know when you think
- 34:03Speaker 2: you're really good at something. I've never thought that I'm
- 34:05Speaker 2: particularly good at admin. I think I'm really good at
- 34:07Speaker 2: reverse parking. And I did something fabulous last week.
- 34:12Speaker 1: No, I saw you trying to get out of my
- 34:14Speaker 1: very straight driveway the other day.
- 34:18Speaker 2: That was almost that was a tricky visitors parking space,
- 34:23Speaker 2: and I didn't want to hit your car.
- 34:25Speaker 3: Do you know what it needed in the background?
- 34:26Speaker 5: Benny Hill.
- 34:30Speaker 2: Well, I have a fabulous little Honda Jazz that I
- 34:33Speaker 2: take everywhere because it parks so easily. Whenever I go
- 34:36Speaker 2: to a comedy gig, I take that one because I
- 34:38Speaker 2: can get into small parking spaces. And when we were
- 34:40Speaker 2: arriving today to do this podcast, we're in Willem Maloose,
- 34:44Speaker 2: so parking is a bit tight. But I saw a
- 34:45Speaker 2: really small space and I thought, I'm an awesome reverse parker,
- 34:49Speaker 2: and I got my car into this absurdly small space
- 34:52Speaker 2: after about five or six goes, got it in. Soon
- 34:55Speaker 2: as I got out and hit the lock button on
- 34:58Speaker 2: my car, the guy in front gets in his car
- 35:00Speaker 2: and drives off ninety seconds earlier or ninety seconds later. Please,
- 35:07Speaker 2: that was just cruel.
- 35:08Speaker 4: No, But if he got in ninety seconds earlier, you
- 35:10Speaker 4: don't have the sense of achievement that you now have
- 35:12Speaker 4: because you are an excellent reverse park Thank you.
- 35:15Speaker 3: I would hope that he was just standing across the road.
- 35:17Speaker 2: I hope, so that's exactly what I would do. I
- 35:20Speaker 2: love it when I'm sitting at a cafe and you
- 35:22Speaker 2: see someone try to do a reverse park and they
- 35:24Speaker 2: just butcher it a couple of times, and then it's
- 35:26Speaker 2: like you just have to drive away, Just drive away.
- 35:28Speaker 2: You cannot stay at this It's done. That's all we've
- 35:31Speaker 2: got time for this week, So remember put in your
- 35:34Speaker 2: diary that the twenty second of September. I couldn't remember
- 35:39Speaker 2: the Diamonds name for a moment there, so I need
- 35:41Speaker 2: another coffee of the Diamonds and the rasores are on
- 35:43Speaker 2: the twenty second of September. That's at four o'clock. Our
- 35:45Speaker 2: event will be going from eleven through to one thirty
- 35:48Speaker 2: or two o'clock in Sydney Olympic Park, So have a
- 35:50Speaker 2: think about what you want to do with your day
- 35:52Speaker 2: out at the netball but it's going to be fantastic.
- 35:54Speaker 2: Our tickets will go on sale on the same day
- 35:56Speaker 2: as the Test match tickets, so you can make sure
- 35:59Speaker 2: that you are covered for all the things you want
- 36:01Speaker 2: to do and we will give more information over the
- 36:03Speaker 2: next week or so as to how to buy those tickets.
- 36:06Speaker 2: But that's all we've got time for, so thanks again
- 36:09Speaker 2: for joining us. I'm Carolyn Swindell, I'm.
- 36:10Speaker 3: Cath Cox and I'm excited for all over there.
- 36:12Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm Liz Allerson. I'm tapering for it as we speak.
- 36:17Speaker 2: We love you all, thanks dribblers, have a great week.
- 36:20Speaker 3: I'm gonna start car bloating.
- 36:24Speaker 2: Bye bye bye
