- 0:15Speaker 1: Amazon Music, as well through Conversations Radio Network. We're glad
- 0:19Speaker 1: you all could be with us as well. We have
- 0:21Speaker 1: an exclusive for you guys today. Stacey Thomas is back
- 0:23Speaker 1: with us. That's not in itself an exclusive. She's an author,
- 0:27Speaker 1: media personality. LS advocate, but also a speaker. But she
- 0:32Speaker 1: recently made a trip to New York for something very
- 0:34Speaker 1: special at Carnegie Hall. I want to talk to her
- 0:37Speaker 1: about that, as well as the Power of Presence event
- 0:39Speaker 1: that's fast approaching in November there in Richmond, Virginia. If
- 0:43Speaker 1: you guys have not heard about that, we're going to
- 0:45Speaker 1: let you guys know all the details you need to know,
- 0:47Speaker 1: and of course, let you know how to help spread
- 0:49Speaker 1: the word. Stacey, welcome back to the broadcast.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Thank you for having me, Sash. I always enjoy coming
- 0:53Speaker 2: on your show.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Well, I always enjoy talking with you, Stacey, especially now.
- 0:58Speaker 1: I mean, this is big. I mean, you're just days
- 1:01Speaker 1: from your trip to New York. You traveled to New
- 1:03Speaker 1: York from Virginia to go to Carnegie Hall, first of all,
- 1:08Speaker 1: for a very special event. Talk to us about what
- 1:11Speaker 1: it was like for you to make that trip, but
- 1:14Speaker 1: also to be in a space where it's celebrating something
- 1:17Speaker 1: that you're big on, and that's ALS Awareness.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Well, it was an amazing feeling, Cyrus.
- 1:22Speaker 3: The trip was Deborah Silver and Fabulous Friends, Voices for ALS.
- 1:25Speaker 3: Proceeds were going to ALS Research, which is also known
- 1:30Speaker 3: as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis to.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Some people, Lou Gehrig's disease.
- 1:35Speaker 3: It was something that I guess I never imagined I
- 1:39Speaker 3: would be in a room full of people who were
- 1:42Speaker 3: passionate about fighting for a cure. First of all, Cyrus,
- 1:47Speaker 3: And the other thing that has made me very proud
- 1:49Speaker 3: of myself is my publicist said to us one time
- 1:53Speaker 3: that we have to step out.
- 1:56Speaker 2: We have to do things.
- 1:58Speaker 3: And my publicist, Cyrus Webb, shared an Eva Marcel video
- 2:02Speaker 3: one day that said, sometimes you have to go by yourself.
- 2:06Speaker 2: This whole experience, I.
- 2:09Speaker 3: Understand what you said, Cyrus, because it was indeed a
- 2:13Speaker 3: trip that I said it was God and me. And
- 2:18Speaker 3: being there and meeting the people that I met and
- 2:21Speaker 3: actually hearing from a lady, Margie, who has been living
- 2:27Speaker 3: with ALS for 18 years. And in one way, it
- 2:31Speaker 3: made me extremely sad. In another way, it made me
- 2:37Speaker 3: very proud of her because she is someone that has
- 2:41Speaker 3: chose to fight the disease. Right.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Well, this is something that is near and dear to
- 2:46Speaker 1: your heart. Tell our audience why for those who don't know, Stacey.
- 2:49Speaker 3: Well, in 2015, March of 2015, my mother, who did
- 2:54Speaker 3: not drink, smoke, party, or anything, worked two jobs, was
- 2:58Speaker 3: suddenly diagnosed.
- 2:59Speaker 2: With ALS disease.
- 3:01Speaker 3: It was a disease that I had never heard of, Cyrus,
- 3:06Speaker 3: nor had anyone in our circle or family ever heard
- 3:09Speaker 3: of it. So my mother passed away in December of 2015.
- 3:15Speaker 2: So that was nine months.
- 3:17Speaker 3: And it's going through that Cyrus and questioning my faith
- 3:23Speaker 3: during that time. And then realizing that blessings come out
- 3:26Speaker 3: of a storm, watching my mother go through that and
- 3:30Speaker 3: care for her. It made me want to speak out.
- 3:33Speaker 3: It's helped me speak out because some things you just
- 3:37Speaker 3: have to share and And it's made me want to
- 3:41Speaker 3: live and do what it is that I really want
- 3:45Speaker 3: to do because I can't imagine, I don't want to
- 3:49Speaker 3: think that one day I could be like that and
- 3:52Speaker 3: sit back and say, why didn't I do this? Why
- 3:55Speaker 3: didn't I do that? Why didn't I live? It's an
- 3:59Speaker 3: awful disease. I don't wish it on anyone, but it
- 4:02Speaker 3: can happen to anyone.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Right.
- 4:05Speaker 1: And we've been seeing that more and more, it seems like, right, Stacey,
- 4:08Speaker 1: more and more individuals, especially high-profile individuals. What has that
- 4:11Speaker 1: been like for you to see people coming out and
- 4:13Speaker 1: sharing their stories?
- 4:14Speaker 3: It gets to be, okay, I am happy that we
- 4:19Speaker 3: are learning about it more. I am not happy that
- 4:23Speaker 3: more people are getting it, especially when it comes to
- 4:27Speaker 3: minorities or the African-American community. I do like the fact
- 4:34Speaker 3: that People are making it known that it is in
- 4:38Speaker 3: the community, Cyrus, because it's something, like I said, that
- 4:42Speaker 3: affects everyone. So the other part to that is, for example,
- 4:49Speaker 3: Chris Johnson, the football player, came on the news with
- 4:52Speaker 3: his wife. I have to admit, it made me very
- 4:56Speaker 3: emotional throughout that day because seeing his wife, hearing that
- 5:03Speaker 3: they have children... It was sad to just see him
- 5:07Speaker 3: being attacked by it, but just to imagine what the
- 5:10Speaker 3: family will go through that they don't even know yet.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Yeah, such a great, great point. And Stacey, because of
- 5:17Speaker 1: your own personal connection to ALS, you have been making
- 5:22Speaker 1: it a point to speak out. You actually have your
- 5:25Speaker 1: own platform. How important was it for you to talk
- 5:29Speaker 1: about it yourself? And how did that lead you to
- 5:32Speaker 1: what you're doing now today? especially with your shows like
- 5:35Speaker 1: the Stacey Thomas Show?
- 5:36Speaker 3: Having a platform, I just recently realized from talking to you,
- 5:40Speaker 3: Cyrus Webb, that I have enough to speak out.
- 5:43Speaker 2: I don't have to wait for anybody else to do it.
- 5:46Speaker 3: Being able to interview people, especially Miss Deborah Silver, gave
- 5:52Speaker 3: me a chance to really connect with my viewers to
- 5:56Speaker 3: let them know, hey, this isn't just something that Stacey
- 6:00Speaker 3: mentioned sometime. This thing is real. And after seeing the
- 6:06Speaker 3: people that I saw that do want to assist, that
- 6:10Speaker 3: are passionate about it, it's like it. I guess you
- 6:13Speaker 3: know how they say you get some fire underneath you, Cyrus?
- 6:17Speaker 1: Right.
- 6:19Speaker 3: It lets me know that I have to continue to
- 6:21Speaker 3: speak about it. There are people that care. There are
- 6:24Speaker 3: people that dealing with it that can't fight for themselves.
- 6:28Speaker 3: So once again, I remind myself. You fight for those
- 6:31Speaker 3: that can't fight for themselves. So that's what I will
- 6:35Speaker 3: use my platform, continue to use my platform for also.
- 6:39Speaker 1: I want to stay with that for a second, Stacey,
- 6:41Speaker 1: because I think this is an interesting point. And this
- 6:44Speaker 1: is not talking about you, but I hope our audience
- 6:47Speaker 1: gets this point. One thing I've never understood, and I
- 6:52Speaker 1: guess because of the way I am just a maid,
- 6:55Speaker 1: I've never felt like I needed to wait on someone
- 6:59Speaker 1: or get permission from from someone to do things. Like,
- 7:02Speaker 1: I'm a team player, right? Right. But if I don't
- 7:06Speaker 1: have a team, I create my own team. Why do
- 7:09Speaker 1: you think, you know, for yourself, you did feel like
- 7:13Speaker 1: you had to have someone else doing it and that
- 7:15Speaker 1: you couldn't take the lead yourself?
- 7:17Speaker 2: It's crazy that I even thought that.
- 7:21Speaker 3: That's one of those times when I guess you got
- 7:23Speaker 3: to stop and you got to ask yourself, are you
- 7:26Speaker 3: being negative?
- 7:27Speaker 2: Are you really saying this about yourself? Because.
- 7:30Speaker 3: And everything else I chose to do, including the talk show,
- 7:34Speaker 3: I knew I didn't need to wait for someone else
- 7:36Speaker 3: to invite me on their show.
- 7:37Speaker 2: I had to create my own show. So I'm not sure.
- 7:42Speaker 3: What it was that had me feeling like I needed
- 7:47Speaker 3: a superstar, somebody very famous to speak to. Because even
- 7:51Speaker 3: the very famous people may not connect with the people
- 7:55Speaker 3: that I'm connecting with. So why would I sit and
- 7:59Speaker 3: keep it to myself waiting on someone else to do it?
- 8:02Speaker 1: And as you mentioned, the headliner of the event, Deborah Silver,
- 8:07Speaker 1: showed up on your show. What was that like for
- 8:10Speaker 1: you to be able to interview her?
- 8:12Speaker 2: That was like, oh, my goodness, that was like a
- 8:15Speaker 2: huge blessing.
- 8:16Speaker 3: That was, for me, a great conversation because I wasn't
- 8:23Speaker 3: speaking to someone that just said, I've heard about it.
- 8:28Speaker 3: I've seen people with it, but someone who actually understood
- 8:33Speaker 3: what it was and what it was like to care
- 8:36Speaker 3: for someone with ALS disease, and she did not mind
- 8:40Speaker 3: speaking about it.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Yeah. What a powerful thing. And you got a chance
- 8:44Speaker 1: to even hear from her sister. Is that right?
- 8:47Speaker 3: Well, Margie, we connected on Instagram, and then Margie actually
- 8:54Speaker 3: spoke at the ALS event. Yes. Cyrus, they knew exactly
- 9:01Speaker 3: what to do. Margie had a microphone, but for those
- 9:04Speaker 3: who could not understand her, they displayed her words on
- 9:08Speaker 3: a board up on the stage.
- 9:11Speaker 1: So really, it does show the impact that this disease
- 9:14Speaker 1: can have. I want to say for those who are
- 9:15Speaker 1: just tuning in, welcome. You're listening to Conversations Live, both
- 9:19Speaker 1: on the radio side as well as our podcast. Stacey
- 9:21Speaker 1: Thomas is back with us today. She just came back.
- 9:24Speaker 1: from a chip to Carnegie Hall in New York City,
- 9:28Speaker 1: being able to attend a very special event for ALS
- 9:31Speaker 1: Awareness featuring Deborah Silver and her fabulous friends there. We're
- 9:35Speaker 1: going to also let you guys know how to stay
- 9:36Speaker 1: connected with Stacy here in a bit. But the other
- 9:38Speaker 1: thing Stacy and I want to talk about is, Stacy,
- 9:41Speaker 1: we are literally, as of today, that we're having this
- 9:43Speaker 1: conversation one month away. November the 14th, I'll be back
- 9:48Speaker 1: in Richmond, Virginia for the Power of Presence Fall Edition,
- 9:53Speaker 1: the day after. of visibility, marketing, and business growth hosted
- 9:56Speaker 1: by none other than Stacey Thomas. Stacey, are you getting excited?
- 10:01Speaker 2: Yes, I am, Cyrus.
- 10:03Speaker 3: The closer we get, I get even more excited because
- 10:06Speaker 3: when I think about the past two times that you've
- 10:09Speaker 3: been to Virginia and the reaction from the people who
- 10:12Speaker 3: have attended, how can I not be excited, you know? Yeah. Yeah.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Well, I'm excited as well. So if our audience have
- 10:19Speaker 1: not gotten their ticket, Stacy is offering a special this
- 10:23Speaker 1: month only through October 31st. The tickets for the full day,
- 10:28Speaker 1: we're talking about five classes, which would typically cost you
- 10:32Speaker 1: $ 97 each. Through the month of October, you can get
- 10:38Speaker 1: all five classes for only $ 97. Now, if you do
- 10:42Speaker 1: miss out on the October special, the regular price we
- 10:45Speaker 1: worked out with Stacy is only $ 150, but still a
- 10:50Speaker 1: very big discount from what you would pay if you
- 10:53Speaker 1: were attending these classes individually. So we're going to be
- 10:55Speaker 1: doing classes on using social media successfully, how to use
- 10:59Speaker 1: YouTube for yourself. Affiliate marketing is another thing we're going
- 11:03Speaker 1: to be talking about, how to use LinkedIn, as well
- 11:06Speaker 1: as how to be able to market yourself online and offline.
- 11:10Speaker 1: So all five of those topics, We're going to be discussing. Stacey,
- 11:13Speaker 1: let our audience know, where is this going to be
- 11:16Speaker 1: happening at?
- 11:17Speaker 3: It's going to be at the Varina Library, V-A-R-I-N-A. That's
- 11:23Speaker 3: in Richmond, the Richmond area of Virginia. And tickets can
- 11:28Speaker 3: be purchased on Eventbrite or they can DM me on
- 11:32Speaker 3: Instagram or Facebook.
- 11:33Speaker 2: All my pages are IamStaceyThomas.
- 11:37Speaker 1: And we'll make sure that we link that up as well.
- 11:38Speaker 1: But again, the Power of Presence Fall Edition is As
- 11:41Speaker 1: you heard Stacey said, this is my third trip to Richmond,
- 11:46Speaker 1: or at least to Virginia. I was in Petersburg as well.
- 11:49Speaker 1: This is my third trip this year. So, Stacey, I
- 11:52Speaker 1: want to talk about that because this is another example
- 11:55Speaker 1: of Stacey Thomas coming out of her comfort zone. You've
- 11:58Speaker 1: been hosting NowMe. This is the third time. How does
- 12:01Speaker 1: it feel to go from not only hosting your own
- 12:03Speaker 1: podcast like the Stacey Thomas Show and the Business Block
- 12:07Speaker 1: to now being able to host events like the Power
- 12:10Speaker 1: of Presence?
- 12:11Speaker 2: It feels great.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Everything that I've done when I think about it, Cyrus,
- 12:16Speaker 3: and I was reminded of this also, I think about
- 12:20Speaker 3: the events that I've had and how I've moved away from.
- 12:23Speaker 2: Just talking about I wanted to do it.
- 12:25Speaker 3: I'm feeling very successful. I'm proud of myself for the
- 12:28Speaker 3: things that I'm doing. I'm proud of myself that I'm
- 12:32Speaker 3: actually doing what I've been saying on my show. I
- 12:35Speaker 3: am acting as the bridge connecting those that are tired
- 12:39Speaker 3: of being the best kept secrets.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Wow, I love that. I love that. And Stacey, what
- 12:45Speaker 1: about the confidence to host your own?
- 12:48Speaker 2: That's, I get nervous, but, you know, it's a great feeling, Cyrus.
- 12:55Speaker 3: It's a great feeling.
- 12:56Speaker 2: It brings me joy. Yeah.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Well, you do a really good job, and I'm excited
- 13:03Speaker 1: about it. Thank you. I have to hear Stacey go
- 13:06Speaker 1: back and forth sometimes, questioning herself. I'm like, Stacey, Stacey,
- 13:11Speaker 1: we've gone through this before. We've gone through this. I
- 13:14Speaker 1: don't know if I'm supposed to tell that part, though,
- 13:15Speaker 1: but I'll be like, Stacey, chill. You got this.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Yes, we.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Do. But it's going to be exciting. But again, Saturday,
- 13:25Speaker 1: November the 14th, one day only, one day only, Five classes.
- 13:31Speaker 1: If you get your ticket this month, in the month
- 13:33Speaker 1: of October, it's only $ 97. If it's after October the 31st,
- 13:38Speaker 1: you can still get your ticket as long as there's
- 13:40Speaker 1: still spaces available for $ 150. So save that extra money.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Come in. Be able to come in and network and learn, again,
- 13:50Speaker 1: a little bit of something for everyone. You don't want
- 13:53Speaker 1: to miss that. We're going to remind you of that.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Last thing I want to talk to you about, Stacy,
- 13:57Speaker 1: is One thing that you always say, and that is,
- 14:00Speaker 1: let's be thankful. That's another thing you did this year.
- 14:03Speaker 1: You released your book called Let's Be Thankful. Talk to
- 14:08Speaker 1: us about that experience of having your journal out and
- 14:12Speaker 1: what it's been like for you to share that message
- 14:14Speaker 1: of every day being thankful.
- 14:18Speaker 3: That makes me feel like I am really doing more,
- 14:23Speaker 3: and I go back to, than just talking about I'm
- 14:27Speaker 3: reminding people to be thankful.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Sometimes we're so busy in life. We only think we.
- 14:33Speaker 3: Should say thank you when the great things happen, but
- 14:36Speaker 3: even when the bad, but even when things aren't good,
- 14:40Speaker 3: even when we're going through storms, we, if we're waking upsides,
- 14:44Speaker 3: if we can brush our own teeth, if we can
- 14:46Speaker 3: pick up our phone, if we can get on our
- 14:48Speaker 3: knees by ourselves and get back up after praying, we
- 14:51Speaker 3: should be thankful. Because if people would take a minute
- 14:56Speaker 3: and think, what if a fly landed on my arm?
- 15:03Speaker 3: What happens if I can't move my arm? What happens
- 15:08Speaker 3: if I can't say to someone to get this off
- 15:11Speaker 3: of me? If you can do that now, be thankful.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Right. I think that's a great thing. And perspective is
- 15:23Speaker 1: so important. So, Stacey, let's talk about that for yourself
- 15:26Speaker 1: when it comes to professionally then. Because, you know, a
- 15:30Speaker 1: lot of times, you know, it's very easy for us
- 15:32Speaker 1: to beat ourselves up about what we think is not happening.
- 15:36Speaker 1: How is having that attitude of gratitude, how has that
- 15:39Speaker 1: helped you when it comes to looking at what you're building?
- 15:44Speaker 3: It helps me a lot. For example, even looking in
- 15:46Speaker 3: my journal the other day, because even I– have days.
- 15:52Speaker 3: I know life is not perfect, but even I have days, Cyrus,
- 15:56Speaker 3: that I have to remind myself to be thankful that
- 16:00Speaker 3: I have to, those very words in my journal, the
- 16:03Speaker 3: storm will get through the storm. I have to remind
- 16:07Speaker 3: myself of that.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Wow. Well, I think that's a great reminder again for
- 16:13Speaker 1: all of us, for sure. So Stacey, you have a
- 16:15Speaker 1: lot of great things that are happening. As I mentioned,
- 16:18Speaker 1: you know, just coming back, from this big trip to
- 16:20Speaker 1: New York at Carnegie Hall with Deborah Silver and her
- 16:23Speaker 1: fabulous friends, you know, supporting ALS awareness. But you were
- 16:27Speaker 1: also able to meet other like-minded individuals. How did that
- 16:31Speaker 1: kind of spur you, Stacey, to think about ways you
- 16:34Speaker 1: can increase, you know, your own awareness for your platform
- 16:38Speaker 1: when it comes to ALS?
- 16:41Speaker 3: It was a great experience, Cyrus.
- 16:46Speaker 2: I learned a lot, Cyrus.
- 16:48Speaker 3: And meeting these great people, you reminded me of some
- 16:51Speaker 3: things that I did not do. However, I've learned that
- 16:58Speaker 3: I have to be ready because I connected with, oh
- 17:02Speaker 3: my goodness, so many interesting people on this trip, Cyrus.
- 17:07Speaker 3: And the reaction that I received after talking to them
- 17:10Speaker 3: and telling them what I do, it just really did
- 17:13Speaker 3: something for me. You know, just basically saying, Stacy, you
- 17:18Speaker 3: are doing something great and that I can do more
- 17:21Speaker 3: and I should continue doing what I'm doing.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Well, I think that's it. Have you gotten to a place, Stacy,
- 17:27Speaker 1: that you can look at yourself as an example for
- 17:30Speaker 1: other people as to what they can do?
- 17:33Speaker 3: I believe I have, Cyrus, because if someone wants to
- 17:38Speaker 3: sit down and talk to me and ask me what
- 17:42Speaker 3: I've gone through to build this platform, Nothing was given
- 17:46Speaker 3: to me.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Nothing.
- 17:47Speaker 3: I didn't have a budget starting what I started doing.
- 17:51Speaker 3: I can really let people know if you're sitting there,
- 17:54Speaker 3: I can tell them, if you're sitting there with a
- 17:56Speaker 3: dream and you think you have nothing to assist.
- 17:58Speaker 2: You with it, work with what you got.
- 18:01Speaker 3: Work with what you have because if it's your passion,
- 18:04Speaker 3: you already have enough to get started.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Isn't that a great reminder? If you have the passion,
- 18:11Speaker 1: you already have enough.
- 18:12Speaker 2: You already have enough.
- 18:14Speaker 3: And then you have Stacey Thomas here who's willing to
- 18:17Speaker 3: come out and speak to you, who's willing to teach
- 18:20Speaker 3: you the things I know. There's no crab in the
- 18:23Speaker 3: bucket mentality over here. It's I want you, as Stacey
- 18:29Speaker 3: felt when she first started, I want to be that
- 18:31Speaker 3: person that lets you know you.
- 18:33Speaker 2: Can do it.
- 18:34Speaker 1: Well, there you go. And that's a great reminder for
- 18:36Speaker 1: our audience that if others can do it, you can
- 18:38Speaker 1: definitely do it too. Again, everyone, Stacey Thomas has been
- 18:41Speaker 1: our guest. You guys know her as an author, media personality, speaker,
- 18:45Speaker 1: ALS advocate. She's been talking with us about what's been
- 18:48Speaker 1: an exciting last few days for her, but also the
