Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: This podcast is recorded on gadigal Land always was, always
- 0:03Speaker 1: will be Aboriginal Land. Hey chicks, I'm out and this
- 0:15Speaker 1: is Two Broach Chicks, the show that sheares life lessons
- 0:17Speaker 1: and tips to make you rich in life. And we
- 0:22Speaker 1: are throwing it back.
- 0:24Speaker 2: We are throwing it at the fuk back.
- 0:26Speaker 1: We're throwing at the back because we got a little
- 0:29Speaker 1: bit junkie per the other week and we were like,
- 0:31Speaker 1: how funny would it be if we recorded an episode
- 0:35Speaker 1: reacting to our first ever episode of Two Broke Chicks
- 0:41Speaker 1: when we had no idea what we were doing. I
- 0:44Speaker 1: don't can still think we have what we're doing.
- 0:48Speaker 2: We're just we come in.
- 0:49Speaker 3: Here, vibe and be like, is that good?
- 0:51Speaker 4: Like that?
- 0:52Speaker 5: Hopefully you guys like that.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Hopefully hopefully you guys like that.
- 0:55Speaker 1: So I am low key nervous, but I'm excited.
- 1:00Speaker 2: I'm so excited.
- 1:00Speaker 1: I'm like, I have never listened back to our old episodes.
- 1:06Speaker 1: May neither, because we listen back to the episodes every
- 1:08Speaker 1: week as they go live, you know, to do the
- 1:12Speaker 1: edits and all of those things with our fabulous team.
- 1:15Speaker 1: But yeah, I've never retrospectively gone back and listened to
- 1:18Speaker 1: any episodes so I feel like we're going to be
- 1:22Speaker 1: either shocked by how different we are or maybe pleasantly
- 1:26Speaker 1: surprised that we're still the same.
- 1:28Speaker 2: I don't know it's going to be good.
- 1:30Speaker 1: But before we get into it, what's your obsession of
- 1:34Speaker 1: the week. My obsession of the week is a new
- 1:38Speaker 1: skin care product that I got to try.
- 1:40Speaker 2: This week.
- 1:41Speaker 1: We were invited by ESMI to get facial at the
- 1:47Speaker 1: Parlor Room in Redfern to try out their new hydrogew
- 1:50Speaker 1: gel masks and I love them. Oh these are the
- 1:54Speaker 1: like the patches, right, yeah, yeah, So they are gel
- 1:57Speaker 1: patches that you can put under your eyes and they.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Have three different types.
- 2:01Speaker 1: So there's one for brightening, another one for depuffing, and
- 2:06Speaker 1: then another one that targets like fine lines. And in
- 2:11Speaker 1: my service, I got to try the brightening and the
- 2:13Speaker 1: depuffing and I love them both.
- 2:16Speaker 2: I also learned that you can use.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Gel patches all over your face, yeah, not just under
- 2:21Speaker 1: your eyes, which I was kind of like, duh, but
- 2:23Speaker 1: I'm like, no, you can use them like anywhere that
- 2:26Speaker 1: you feel like you need them, And yeah, definitely give
- 2:29Speaker 1: them a go.
- 2:30Speaker 2: I think they're thirty nine dollars and you.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Get sixty patches, so it is around like sixty five
- 2:36Speaker 1: cents per patch or something like that. But yeah, they're
- 2:40Speaker 1: gorgeous and I love a gel.
- 2:43Speaker 3: You do, especially that Pop them in the fridge.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Yeah, pop them in the fridge, like so beautiful when
- 2:48Speaker 1: you're getting ready in the morning to depuff. I definitely
- 2:52Speaker 1: recommend gorge what's yours? My obsession is that by twenty thirty,
- 3:00Speaker 1: forty five percent of women are predicted to be single.
- 3:04Speaker 1: According to research, This is great news for them. So
- 3:09Speaker 1: research consistently shows that single women are happier than married women,
- 3:13Speaker 1: live longer, and make more money.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Oh my god, I know.
- 3:18Speaker 3: And the opposite is true for men.
- 3:22Speaker 1: So the why, And it's because in heterosexual relationships, women
- 3:27Speaker 1: still do majority of the unpaid labor yea. And the
- 3:30Speaker 1: rise of single women is primarily due to the fact
- 3:33Speaker 1: that women are no longer pressured into marriage for financial
- 3:36Speaker 1: and cultural reasons.
- 3:38Speaker 3: So, for example, it wasn't.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Until nineteen seventy five that UK women could open a
- 3:43Speaker 1: bank account in their own name. And while this independence
- 3:47Speaker 1: benefits women, it hurts men, who lose access to the
- 3:50Speaker 1: unpaid labor of women supporting their careers and overall wellbeing.
- 3:55Speaker 1: So yeah, that was from Female Invests, and I was like, Slay.
- 3:59Speaker 2: Honestly makes sense.
- 4:00Speaker 1: They don't have their mummies to take care of them anymore, exactly.
- 4:03Speaker 3: So if you're a single girlie, slay, Yeah, things are
- 4:08Speaker 3: looking up.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Chy mean, shall we throw it back? Let's throw it back.
- 4:14Speaker 1: To twenty twenty one. Oh my god, something's never changed.
- 4:23Speaker 3: The music is still exactly the same.
- 4:25Speaker 2: It's never going to change. Pay Pals, Welcome to the
- 4:31Speaker 2: pal Pal House.
- 4:34Speaker 3: Fuck is pals pal pay Pals?
- 4:39Speaker 2: Oh my god? Oh my god? Not on brand cells?
- 4:42Speaker 1: No, yuck.
- 4:44Speaker 2: We hadn't formed a bond with you.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Check very first episode of Two Broke Jicks, the show
- 4:50Speaker 1: sharing life lessons from the gals for the goals. We
- 4:55Speaker 1: know firsthand that navigating your twenties is bloody hard and unfortunate.
- 5:00Speaker 4: You usually have to learn those lessons the hard way.
- 5:03Speaker 1: But with this show, we're hoping we can make it
- 5:06Speaker 1: that little bit easier.
- 5:08Speaker 3: I believe we've done that.
- 5:10Speaker 2: I think so as well. I think we've.
- 5:11Speaker 3: Nailed the breez.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:13Speaker 3: Yes, Also, did we suck on a helium balloon?
- 5:16Speaker 2: Yeah? Do we sound Is that you?
- 5:18Speaker 3: Or no? Is that what I said? Is that what
- 5:21Speaker 3: I sound like I feel like we sound I feel
- 5:24Speaker 3: like we sound different.
- 5:24Speaker 1: I don't know if we were a little bit more
- 5:26Speaker 1: scripted in the beginning, and that's why it sounds like
- 5:28Speaker 1: I have a stick up my arm. But also when
- 5:31Speaker 1: we recorded the very first season, we're in lockdown, so
- 5:34Speaker 1: we were recording it via a like tool called riverside. Yeah,
- 5:39Speaker 1: so maybe that's why we sound like we gave a
- 5:43Speaker 1: helium balloon a gobby. Yeah.
- 5:45Speaker 2: The audio quality has definitely had to blow up.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Okay, from how to land your first full time gigs.
- 5:52Speaker 3: Bro bro, who is that?
- 5:55Speaker 2: Honestly?
- 5:56Speaker 1: To getting over an X or even just horrace housemates.
- 6:01Speaker 1: So am I as well as some fabulous guests.
- 6:04Speaker 3: Along the way.
- 6:05Speaker 1: We'll do some digging and get the answer to the
- 6:07Speaker 1: questions that will help you live your.
- 6:09Speaker 3: Very best life.
- 6:10Speaker 1: She is reading a script, whoever that is, is like,
- 6:14Speaker 1: I am absolutely reading a script there because I was
- 6:17Speaker 1: nervous and with lots of laughs and probably a few
- 6:22Speaker 1: too many inappropriate jokes along the way. Never cy, I
- 6:26Speaker 1: do want to say that, but as this is our
- 6:30Speaker 1: very first season, we should probably introduce ourselves, right, So
- 6:34Speaker 1: I'll go first. No, no, no, no, no, I hate
- 6:39Speaker 1: this shit. I feel like my skeleton wants to escape
- 6:44Speaker 1: from my bodies because I just feel like I'm reading cringe.
- 6:50Speaker 1: I feel like my first day at UNI and you're
- 6:53Speaker 1: going around and like telling like an interesting fact about yourself,
- 6:58Speaker 1: and I vaguely remember what we.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Said, and I tried to be funny. I'm just dying
- 7:04Speaker 3: and we haven't even Let's just.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Oh, okay, everybody.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Gergeloin's McMullen, a sixty year old rock and roller stuck
- 7:13Speaker 1: inside the twenty eight year old's body. Eight.
- 7:16Speaker 5: It's true.
- 7:17Speaker 1: I live in Sydney's in a West with my boyfriend
- 7:20Speaker 1: of many years, but I'm also engaged to Harry Styles.
- 7:23Speaker 1: But she doesn't need to se Alan I met because
- 7:26Speaker 1: we're actually both journalists, believe it or not, and we've
- 7:29Speaker 1: been working in the media industry for many, many years.
- 7:32Speaker 5: Now.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Why does this sound like a job intertion, That's what
- 7:36Speaker 1: I'm saying. It's so I think the full name, not
- 7:41Speaker 1: the full name, I am, Sally McMullen. I guess we
- 7:44Speaker 1: really felt like we had to introduce ourselves because you know,
- 7:49Speaker 1: we didn't come from a reality TV show, which is fine.
- 7:53Speaker 1: We didn't come we weren't like influencers with a huge community.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Around our personalities already.
- 8:00Speaker 1: So I think we really were like, we have to
- 8:01Speaker 1: introduce ourselves to the content groo, like why people should listen,
- 8:06Speaker 1: being like we have degrees worked in this, Like we
- 8:10Speaker 1: felt as though we needed to prove ourselves to strangers. Yeah,
- 8:15Speaker 1: and be like this is why we should listen, Like
- 8:17Speaker 1: we're good, we swear yeah.
- 8:20Speaker 6: Fuck.
- 8:20Speaker 1: I've written about everything from now Polish to credit scores. True,
- 8:25Speaker 1: so the exact range that you would expect. But I
- 8:28Speaker 1: also do freelance music journalism on the side.
- 8:32Speaker 3: You sound really cool. We should be friends.
- 8:35Speaker 5: We should be best friends.
- 8:36Speaker 3: Oh my god, I feel Yeah, that's a great idea.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Let's do that.
- 8:40Speaker 3: So I'm Alex.
- 8:41Speaker 1: I'm twenty five, single and have worked as a shopping journalist.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Oh my god, I'm still twenty five and single, right,
- 8:52Speaker 1: Oh my god. For context, I am now nearly twenty nine,
- 9:01Speaker 1: and I am a wife and a mother to a
- 9:07Speaker 1: child to a child.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Oh my god, this is crazy.
- 9:11Speaker 3: This is so like fuck.
- 9:13Speaker 1: The last four years I've worked at some incredible places
- 9:16Speaker 1: like MTV and Chauffeur as well.
- 9:19Speaker 3: But the main things that.
- 9:21Speaker 1: You need to know about me is that I have
- 9:23Speaker 1: a crippling shopping addiction.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Still, I'm the one on this.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Podcast who will be probably just cracking the wise guy jokes,
- 9:31Speaker 1: but also I'm very softy at heart and also quintessential areas.
- 9:37Speaker 1: If you can tell that we're reading these from like that,
- 9:40Speaker 1: we had talking points today, I like literally being like
- 9:44Speaker 1: I'm so funny. I mean, like, guys, I'm really funny, Like, oh,
- 9:54Speaker 1: you're not funny.
- 9:55Speaker 3: If you have to tell people you're funny.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Yeah. If you ever hear me slipping into an English
- 10:00Speaker 1: accent for no apparent reason, don't worry about it.
- 10:03Speaker 3: It's just something that happens, and just go with it.
- 10:05Speaker 1: That's when you know it's serious business when the British
- 10:08Speaker 1: accent comes out. Am I either serious or drunk sometimes
- 10:11Speaker 1: always both. At the time of this recording, Sal and
- 10:18Speaker 1: I were both in Sydney's very very long Lockdown.
- 10:21Speaker 3: So you know we've been surviving but not thriving. Pray
- 10:24Speaker 3: for us, which is it? Please still do?
- 10:29Speaker 1: So we thought we would kick off the season with
- 10:32Speaker 1: some super easy self care habits to get that sweet
- 10:35Speaker 1: serotonin hit that we all know we sound so loveous.
- 10:40Speaker 3: Give it to me.
- 10:41Speaker 5: What's your life? Lesson this week al.
- 10:43Speaker 1: My life lesson is just always going to be the
- 10:44Speaker 1: dumb thing that I did that way.
- 10:52Speaker 3: I know what disease, shit, I don't remember.
- 10:58Speaker 1: My life lesson this is to always check your details.
- 11:06Speaker 3: In your resume, or you're signing up for a free
- 11:09Speaker 3: trial or.
- 11:09Speaker 1: In my case, opening a high interest savings account. There
- 11:13Speaker 1: should be like a chime here, but for like brownie
- 11:15Speaker 1: points for me for doing that.
- 11:17Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 11:18Speaker 1: I was signing up with a bank that I don't
- 11:21Speaker 1: normally bank with and putting in all my details and
- 11:24Speaker 1: I accidentally put my email in as my email at
- 11:28Speaker 1: gmail dot vomb iconic for the life of me, couldn't
- 11:37Speaker 1: realize why I wasn't getting this email to confirm my identity.
- 11:40Speaker 3: And I was like, what has happened?
- 11:41Speaker 1: And I go back to the page and it's my
- 11:44Speaker 1: email at gmail dot vomb and I'm on the phone
- 11:46Speaker 1: and they're like, sorry, can you say that again? I'm
- 11:48Speaker 1: like no, no, like dot vomb, like vomit, like not dot com.
- 11:52Speaker 1: She had a good love, I had a good cry,
- 11:54Speaker 1: everyone came out of it a winner.
- 11:56Speaker 3: But check you details. That's my life lesson. Why is
- 12:00Speaker 3: it always me? Why is it always me?
- 12:04Speaker 2: Peras a good time.
- 12:05Speaker 1: Across the three years that we've been doing this show,
- 12:10Speaker 1: I've had to have that embarrassing moment with the bank
- 12:13Speaker 1: I've got my tits out of the skin check that
- 12:15Speaker 1: I didn't mean to. I talked about shooting myself at Toddy's.
- 12:19Speaker 1: I talked about getting my kouchie out in Bondai when
- 12:21Speaker 1: I was wearing a crotchless one piece that I didn't realize.
- 12:27Speaker 3: Why is it always mean press play?
- 12:31Speaker 1: Okay, Well, my life lesson is kind of linked to
- 12:34Speaker 1: what we're talking about today. So I was scrolling on
- 12:37Speaker 1: Instagram as one does during lockdown, and I learned that
- 12:42Speaker 1: the physiological lifespan of an emotion in your body and
- 12:46Speaker 1: brain only.
- 12:47Speaker 5: Last ninety seconds.
- 12:49Speaker 3: Right, I didn't believe you could say this.
- 12:51Speaker 1: Today's so safety get really angry about something. That feeling
- 12:55Speaker 1: of getting angry and like feeling hot, feeling a bit flustered,
- 12:58Speaker 1: whatever it is, feeling a bit anxious that only lasts
- 13:01Speaker 1: for ninety seconds. Interesting because you remember that, you have
- 13:06Speaker 1: you remembered that since you said that was your life lesson? No,
- 13:11Speaker 1: I feel like I remember it, but it's a life lesson.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Is I look at a sky of I'm like we're learning,
- 13:19Speaker 1: we're learning.
- 13:19Speaker 3: Something from us.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Honestly, I'm like, that's a good one.
- 13:22Speaker 3: So yeah, good jobs out.
- 13:24Speaker 1: And then the rest of it is your brain and
- 13:27Speaker 1: your attitude focusing on it and just like elongating that
- 13:30Speaker 1: emotion kit. Being like four years past this episode, how
- 13:36Speaker 1: do you feel like you handle your emotions now in
- 13:40Speaker 1: comparison to like that girl.
- 13:43Speaker 3: Going to therapy.
- 13:47Speaker 2: I don't.
- 13:48Speaker 3: I think I could wear a lot better. I think
- 13:52Speaker 3: we're so much better.
- 13:53Speaker 1: I think whenever we're like going down a little bit
- 13:57Speaker 1: of like a nag headspace, obviously it's touch and go
- 14:01Speaker 1: and it does depend on the context, but I do
- 14:04Speaker 1: think we pull ourselves out of it, and we pull
- 14:06Speaker 1: up on it very quick. We hit the handbrake before
- 14:09Speaker 1: the spiral can like, yeah, take us out. Like if
- 14:12Speaker 1: we're being negative or like having a win, to'll be like,
- 14:15Speaker 1: but do you know what, like at the.
- 14:16Speaker 3: End of the day, and we'll like list like three positive.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Things that I think we are a lot less grumpy.
- 14:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:26Speaker 5: So that was my life lesson for the week.
- 14:28Speaker 2: Amazing.
- 14:28Speaker 1: I'm going to try that count to ninety instead of
- 14:31Speaker 1: count to ten, Count to ninety. World Mental Health Day
- 14:34Speaker 1: is actually coming up in a couple of days by
- 14:36Speaker 1: the time we release this episode. But I feel like
- 14:40Speaker 1: this is a conversation that we can be having all
- 14:42Speaker 1: year round, especially right now. And like you said, our
- 14:45Speaker 1: the last twelve eighteen months have been the worst for
- 14:48Speaker 1: pretty much everyone.
- 14:49Speaker 3: Stop talking about COVID.
- 14:52Speaker 1: Yeah, the whole episode about being backed down, but that's
- 14:57Speaker 1: what it was like at the time. Back to it,
- 15:01Speaker 1: move on, Yeah, to talk about now with Mental Health day,
- 15:05Speaker 1: but also just all the time.
- 15:07Speaker 3: Yeah, especially with the lockdowns that we've had. Everyone's trying to.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Take a shot every time you say lockdown.
- 15:15Speaker 3: On feeling the heat a little bit. So I think
- 15:20Speaker 3: we could all.
- 15:20Speaker 1: Use dos as self cave self love, but it can
- 15:24Speaker 1: actually be really hard to kind of make time for
- 15:26Speaker 1: it and muster up the energy to do it and
- 15:29Speaker 1: also know what will work for you. A few easy
- 15:32Speaker 1: habits to get you out of that funk. Some of
- 15:34Speaker 1: them are tried and true, others are backed by science,
- 15:37Speaker 1: and a few of them are just weird little habits
- 15:40Speaker 1: us every site enjoy those. My first one is move
- 15:44Speaker 1: your body the singing.
- 15:51Speaker 3: I know it's an annoying guy.
- 15:53Speaker 2: We know the singing is annoying.
- 15:56Speaker 3: But it's just like ingrained in our DNA.
- 15:59Speaker 1: I've just really want to point out that we've really
- 16:01Speaker 1: cut back on the singing, whether it is physically or
- 16:06Speaker 1: just via the edit.
- 16:07Speaker 2: And that's for you chicks.
- 16:09Speaker 5: Yeah, might get copyrighted for that.
- 16:11Speaker 1: Bring it, Olivia, let's go trying to find I don't
- 16:17Speaker 1: love working out.
- 16:19Speaker 5: What I know, I'm sure that's you.
- 16:22Speaker 1: That's do you want to give a bit of context
- 16:25Speaker 1: to that now, because I feel like that is not
- 16:27Speaker 1: the case anymore. Yeah, I would say that prior to
- 16:30Speaker 1: lockdown or anything, it was like a real chore that
- 16:34Speaker 1: I felt like I had to do, and if I
- 16:36Speaker 1: didn't do it one day, I would like really spiral
- 16:39Speaker 1: and feel guilty and just felt like it completely knocked
- 16:43Speaker 1: me off, like my goals.
- 16:44Speaker 2: For the week.
- 16:45Speaker 1: Whereas now I have a more healthy relationship with it
- 16:48Speaker 1: because it is about how I feel after the workout
- 16:52Speaker 1: and picking workouts that I actually enjoy and not just
- 16:56Speaker 1: doing classes or things that I feel like high intensity
- 16:59Speaker 1: workouts that I feel like I should be doing. How
- 17:01Speaker 1: do you feel like you got to that point? Because
- 17:04Speaker 1: I think that's one of the things that people who
- 17:06Speaker 1: were maybe in like that earlier stage that you were in.
- 17:09Speaker 1: That's like working out feels like a chore, They feel
- 17:11Speaker 1: like they have to do it. If they don't do it,
- 17:13Speaker 1: they feel guilty. How did you kind of go about
- 17:17Speaker 1: like developing that relationship, because then you see people who
- 17:19Speaker 1: feel like that, They see people being like I was you,
- 17:22Speaker 1: and I like, I am in love with working out
- 17:25Speaker 1: it and it kind of seems like I would even
- 17:28Speaker 1: go as far to say, like unrelatable in some instances, Yeah,
- 17:31Speaker 1: not with you at all, But like, how did you
- 17:33Speaker 1: kind of transition to that point of realizing, No, I
- 17:36Speaker 1: actually really do enjoy this and this is like a
- 17:38Speaker 1: pleasure for me. I think it's trying different things and
- 17:41Speaker 1: figuring out what you want to do with your workout,
- 17:45Speaker 1: because I fucking hate doing box jumps and shit like that,
- 17:49Speaker 1: and always felt so anxious before the class even doing
- 17:53Speaker 1: things like that.
- 17:55Speaker 2: Whereas now that I've learned what I actually.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Like doing and what makes me feel fell stronger both
- 18:01Speaker 1: physically and mentally, I just get more out of the
- 18:04Speaker 1: workout and I don't walk into the gym with anxiety,
- 18:07Speaker 1: which is what I had before, And I know that
- 18:11Speaker 1: no one there cares what I'm doing, nobody's looking at
- 18:13Speaker 1: what I'm doing, and as much as I really loved
- 18:16Speaker 1: classes at the time, Maybe it was that maybe.
- 18:19Speaker 2: The classes were too restrictive for what I wanted.
- 18:21Speaker 1: To do, or just only doing classes, which is what
- 18:25Speaker 1: I was doing previously, was a bit too restrictive, whereas
- 18:28Speaker 1: now I've been doing a little bit more of my
- 18:29Speaker 1: own thing and then doing like pilates and things like
- 18:32Speaker 1: every so often.
- 18:33Speaker 3: You really like the kick app, don't you?
- 18:35Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 18:36Speaker 2: I love the kick App.
- 18:38Speaker 1: I think the way that they talk about exercise really
- 18:41Speaker 1: really healthy and soft, and it's pretty much all to
- 18:45Speaker 1: do with strength and mental health, which is so important.
- 18:47Speaker 1: Love Steph, love Laura mummy.
- 18:50Speaker 3: Speaking of your body, Oh no, into.
- 18:56Speaker 6: Mine the sound effects already, but I don't think.
- 19:09Speaker 3: Whether it's with yourself with someone else?
- 19:13Speaker 2: Why is it going on for so long? Why is
- 19:16Speaker 2: it going on for so long?
- 19:18Speaker 5: Actually made me.
- 19:18Speaker 3: Go soft hell for a bit of BTS.
- 19:24Speaker 1: I wanted to say masturbate in this, but I can't
- 19:29Speaker 1: remember if I was too shy or if our old
- 19:36Speaker 1: editor said that I wasn't allowed to, so I had
- 19:40Speaker 1: to say the intimate, whether it's with yourself or with
- 19:43Speaker 1: someone else. It was it was heavy on the yourself. Yeah,
- 19:46Speaker 1: it was heavy on that, but I can't stand this.
- 19:48Speaker 1: Elevator Music Partners single Bubbles that Snake a little link,
- 19:53Speaker 1: be intimate with yourself or someone else, because finding that
- 19:56Speaker 1: release can cause dopamine? Why am I so serious about
- 20:00Speaker 1: talking about mausing pleasure and gets released into your body
- 20:04Speaker 1: and not only makes you feel good, but it puts
- 20:07Speaker 1: you into go marry.
- 20:08Speaker 2: It's true. Who doesn't love that?
- 20:10Speaker 3: You know, I'm trying to be around the bush here, but.
- 20:14Speaker 1: Sorry, mum fucking been around the bush heo, Oh my god,
- 20:22Speaker 1: she's so shy. Honestly, actually, it's crazy how much like
- 20:28Speaker 1: I think there is a narrative of like, I've definitely
- 20:30Speaker 1: developed maybe some insecurities from this job of like being
- 20:34Speaker 1: on a platform and you know, we get opinions twenty
- 20:38Speaker 1: four hours a day, and there is definitely a negative
- 20:42Speaker 1: element of that.
- 20:43Speaker 3: But listening to this has made me realize.
- 20:47Speaker 1: How much confidence this job has given me, how much
- 20:51Speaker 1: like building and creating and bonding with this amazing community
- 20:55Speaker 1: of just being ourselves has like actually built my confidence
- 20:59Speaker 1: because I would have said that, like, I wouldn't have
- 21:02Speaker 1: realized this if we weren't listening to this. I feel
- 21:04Speaker 1: like we're so much more confident, confident now.
- 21:06Speaker 3: Honestly like I'm too scared to be like yeah, and.
- 21:10Speaker 2: Like I just sound so nervous.
- 21:13Speaker 3: We both sound we both.
- 21:15Speaker 2: You can tell that we're okay.
- 21:18Speaker 1: And it also releases oxytocin which lowest cortersold levels and quarters.
- 21:22Speaker 2: Old way am I trying to see?
- 21:28Speaker 5: That is the truest form of self love.
- 21:29Speaker 1: I know, self love, baby to give that cause on giving.
- 21:33Speaker 1: This is one that we both enjoy, especially read something
- 21:37Speaker 1: to escape this cruel, cruel world basie Bitch Book Club.
- 21:44Speaker 1: We both love reading, but especially we love to read
- 21:48Speaker 1: fantasy or anything that's basically going to take us out.
- 21:51Speaker 5: Of modern day twenty twenty one.
- 21:53Speaker 3: We are nothing if not consistent.
- 21:56Speaker 1: Honestly, see, this isn't an act, this is true.
- 21:59Speaker 3: This is true love.
- 22:01Speaker 1: So I also love a good rock autobiography or like
- 22:04Speaker 1: a fiction that transports me to another time, a completely
- 22:08Speaker 1: different decade or world. Sometimes if you're reading something and
- 22:11Speaker 1: it's just going to get you down in the dumps
- 22:13Speaker 1: as well, Like, of course it's good to be informed
- 22:15Speaker 1: and educated, but in this time, during lockdown, we're already time.
- 22:20Speaker 1: I definitely recommend diving into a fantasy something where you
- 22:23Speaker 1: can really just like shut out the rest of the
- 22:25Speaker 1: world for.
- 22:26Speaker 5: Ten minutes, half an hour.
- 22:28Speaker 4: I find that so relaxing right now, like at the
- 22:31Speaker 4: end of a long work day.
- 22:32Speaker 2: Can I just.
- 22:33Speaker 1: Say, oh, I love like the moment that fantasy books
- 22:37Speaker 1: are having at the moment me too.
- 22:39Speaker 5: They're getting their time in the sun fun.
- 22:42Speaker 2: Oh did I.
- 22:43Speaker 3: Single handedly the rise of book talk.
- 22:47Speaker 2: Definitely?
- 22:47Speaker 3: Maybe, maybe finally.
- 22:50Speaker 1: I have been embarrassed about reading these like fairy LoVa
- 22:53Speaker 1: books my entire life.
- 22:56Speaker 3: You're like, what are you reading like that?
- 22:57Speaker 1: But now it's like we're all like, you know what, Yeah,
- 23:01Speaker 1: I like it when she snogs the vampire.
- 23:04Speaker 3: I'm into it. Oh my god, how crazy?
- 23:12Speaker 2: I love that? Do you know what's wild?
- 23:15Speaker 3: These two little girls hadn't written a book?
- 23:18Speaker 2: Yeah, what the hell.
- 23:21Speaker 1: Do you think that if you had told twenty twenty
- 23:24Speaker 1: one Alex that you were going to be.
- 23:26Speaker 3: A published author, would you believe it? No fucking way,
- 23:30Speaker 3: would you know?
- 23:32Speaker 1: So we found out that we were. We got offered
- 23:35Speaker 1: the chance to write a book.
- 23:36Speaker 2: In what twenty twenty Yeah? Wow, yeah, so that was
- 23:41Speaker 2: a year later. Yeah, that's fucking crazy. Isn't that wild?
- 23:45Speaker 3: And just like again, the like confidence level of like
- 23:50Speaker 3: I'm even still being like, oh yeah, like books, whereas
- 23:53Speaker 3: now I'm like basic Bach book Club fifty.
- 23:54Speaker 1: Thousand followers, and like I'm literally talking about the rogus ship.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Being coy about fantasy. But like, god, we've come so far.
- 24:06Speaker 2: I'm so far.
- 24:07Speaker 1: Okay, So my next one is a good old tip
- 24:11Speaker 1: from my therapist or m oh my god.
- 24:19Speaker 3: My god, if wolves could talk.
- 24:25Speaker 7: Oh fuck, that was I wish I had some like
- 24:28Speaker 7: hot like therapist story. But he literally was like the
- 24:34Speaker 7: fucking professor from Back to the Future.
- 24:36Speaker 2: I love him. I don't even know.
- 24:40Speaker 3: Thanks thanks for taking our girl.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Man.
- 24:42Speaker 3: Honestly, I'm curious as to what this tip will be.
- 24:48Speaker 3: So Sally's like, thank you.
- 24:53Speaker 1: But one really good tip that he gave me Also,
- 24:56Speaker 1: I paid like lots of money for these sessions, Gales,
- 24:59Speaker 1: so like, take the hips as like am they're free. Else,
- 25:02Speaker 1: one thing that he gave me that was really helpful
- 25:04Speaker 1: was whenever you feel yourself going through that spiral, whether
- 25:08Speaker 1: it's like an anxiety spiral or like a little bit
- 25:10Speaker 1: of a sad spiral and you can't really pull yourself
- 25:13Speaker 1: out of it, focus on the physical. So, for example,
- 25:17Speaker 1: if you had a fight with your boyfriend or something
- 25:18Speaker 1: bad happened at work and you're watching TV and you
- 25:21Speaker 1: feel yourself mentally going back to that and thinking about
- 25:24Speaker 1: the conversation or thinking about what you would have said.
- 25:27Speaker 3: Go do something. She's been an overthinker.
- 25:31Speaker 1: I think that's really physical for your body, and that's
- 25:34Speaker 1: not necessarily a workout either. It could literally be jumping
- 25:37Speaker 1: in the shower and focusing on the water droplets on
- 25:41Speaker 1: your body, or go for a walk and really focus
- 25:44Speaker 1: on like the heel tone movement of your.
- 25:49Speaker 2: Fucking sound effects. I'm crying if I can't, what the
- 25:54Speaker 2: hell do we meant?
- 25:55Speaker 1: Well? But unless heel but if you do that, please
- 26:02Speaker 1: switch this off.
- 26:05Speaker 3: I don't want to know.
- 26:06Speaker 1: My next one is Harry Poppins that so have a
- 26:15Speaker 1: good chuckle. I learned that laughter can increase your dopamine
- 26:19Speaker 1: and serotonin activity scientific science. Feeling a bit flat, do
- 26:26Speaker 1: something that will make you laugh.
- 26:29Speaker 3: I love watching What are the things that make you laugh?
- 26:32Speaker 1: Now?
- 26:33Speaker 3: If you are going to list things, oh like if
- 26:35Speaker 3: you're me four?
- 26:36Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, So when I need to do this in
- 26:39Speaker 1: current day, I will look at clips of Friday Forgotten.
- 26:43Speaker 3: Bangers from the morning on the morning shift.
- 26:47Speaker 1: I'll watch Britney Spears is TikTok's. I will go through
- 26:53Speaker 1: Alex and I have a list on her notes app,
- 26:55Speaker 1: and it's like all of the funny things and personal
- 26:58Speaker 1: jokes that we've had over the last six or seven years.
- 27:01Speaker 2: I think we've been compiling it like a beaver sting
- 27:04Speaker 2: like a bee. Did you add that one?
- 27:05Speaker 3: On?
- 27:05Speaker 2: There?
- 27:05Speaker 1: Course I take good that and then like watch an
- 27:10Speaker 1: episode of a stupid TV show.
- 27:11Speaker 2: Currently it would be broad City.
- 27:14Speaker 1: All right, let's see what twenty eight year old sal
- 27:17Speaker 1: has to say. Child in sitcoms like The Nanny or
- 27:20Speaker 1: Seinfeld or you know, The Office, something that's going to
- 27:23Speaker 1: give you a really easy life and you don't really
- 27:25Speaker 1: have to think about it.
- 27:27Speaker 5: Call a friend that will.
- 27:29Speaker 4: Give you a good giggle, you l put you on.
- 27:31Speaker 1: Speed down, or listen to a funny podcast, or scroll
- 27:35Speaker 1: through TikTok or something to get a quick fix of
- 27:37Speaker 1: last There have.
- 27:38Speaker 4: Been so many times during it's gonna say during lockdown, but.
- 27:41Speaker 1: Really will take a shot and where if I'm feeling
- 27:45Speaker 1: a little bit sad, oh, I'll just you know, you see,
- 27:49Speaker 1: listen to a funny podcast and it pulls me out
- 27:51Speaker 1: of that funk so fast.
- 27:53Speaker 3: Yeah, but what's something that you've laughed at really hard recently?
- 27:55Speaker 5: So I've been rewatching The.
- 27:57Speaker 1: Nanny during last My god, Niles the Butler. He's carried
- 28:02Speaker 1: me through this man thing, and I.
- 28:04Speaker 5: Am not kidding. I owe him so much.
- 28:07Speaker 3: Go and watch a sunrise.
- 28:09Speaker 1: This is one of my favorite things to do and
- 28:12Speaker 1: my favorite things to just feel better, because one, it
- 28:16Speaker 1: starts your day on the right note and it is
- 28:21Speaker 1: kind of that thing that puts everything in perspective.
- 28:23Speaker 2: Can I be.
- 28:24Speaker 3: Really fucking for real?
- 28:25Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 28:26Speaker 1: I think I've watched maybe like four sunprises.
- 28:31Speaker 5: In my day.
- 28:32Speaker 2: I'm more of a sunset.
- 28:35Speaker 1: I'm correct in the fact that it does make you
- 28:38Speaker 1: feel absolutely amazing. The way that I'm saying this as
- 28:42Speaker 1: if I do it every fucking week, Yeah, that's come on.
- 28:47Speaker 1: I think maybe do we sometimes say things hoping that
- 28:49Speaker 1: it will keep us like accountable?
- 28:51Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 28:52Speaker 1: I think when we recorded this, I had literally gotten
- 28:55Speaker 1: the day before, so I was like, this is my
- 28:58Speaker 1: new personality.
- 28:59Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, yeah.
- 29:00Speaker 4: So that's a wrap on our tips.
- 29:03Speaker 5: I hope that they helped.
- 29:05Speaker 2: But I hope that they do.
- 29:09Speaker 1: You have any other habits or tips for getting serotonin,
- 29:13Speaker 1: feel free to reach out to us on Instagram at
- 29:16Speaker 1: two break chicks to let us know and we will
- 29:19Speaker 1: try them out and then we can share them on
- 29:21Speaker 1: the next episode as well.
- 29:22Speaker 3: So we never did that, but.
- 29:26Speaker 2: We had like two listeners, no legit.
- 29:28Speaker 1: I think on our first season we did a total
- 29:32Speaker 1: of thirteen episodes. Yeah, and I think we had less
- 29:35Speaker 1: than ten thousand downloads. I think it was like, yeah,
- 29:38Speaker 1: I think we would get like one thousand downloads per episode, which.
- 29:42Speaker 2: Is not bad. No, it's a great place to start.
- 29:44Speaker 3: But yeah, there was.
- 29:45Speaker 1: A thousand people listening, like, yeah, that's that's for two
- 29:48Speaker 1: people that came from nowhere, people that came from a
- 29:51Speaker 1: small town.
- 29:51Speaker 4: Again that we literally popped up out of a hole
- 29:54Speaker 4: in the ground.
- 29:55Speaker 1: I hear you what. We're going to move into our
- 30:01Speaker 1: next segment, classes in session, So we're going do you
- 30:05Speaker 1: don't remember.
- 30:06Speaker 2: That class is in session?
- 30:08Speaker 1: Session? What is this advice of the chief? You said
- 30:12Speaker 1: to me, did you ever have a segment on your
- 30:15Speaker 1: show classes in session with Chest? I would have said,
- 30:22Speaker 1: did we do this the whole first season? No way,
- 30:25Speaker 1: I have no idea.
- 30:26Speaker 2: What the fuck?
- 30:27Speaker 3: Oh my god?
- 30:28Speaker 1: To answer some cute advice as a chief that y'all
- 30:32Speaker 1: have sent in some advice from us. There were a few,
- 30:36Speaker 1: but we thought that this one was pretty relatable. The
- 30:39Speaker 1: question was I struggle to make time for self care?
- 30:42Speaker 1: What can I do to make it stick?
- 30:45Speaker 4: Now? I feel like you have.
- 30:46Speaker 1: Some really good tips for this one, because, like you said,
- 30:48Speaker 1: you've tried a lot.
- 30:49Speaker 3: Yeah, and I'm also really lazy.
- 30:51Speaker 1: One till I got from a life coach that was
- 30:55Speaker 1: really helpful in terms of making time for suff Can
- 30:58Speaker 1: you tell that I was like going through it because
- 31:00Speaker 1: I was like my therapist, my life code. We Yeah,
- 31:03Speaker 1: both sound like we're having a rough time. Yeah, working out,
- 31:07Speaker 1: whether it's studying, is the way and trick to make
- 31:10Speaker 1: time for something is to set a timer for ten minutes.
- 31:14Speaker 3: That's it.
- 31:14Speaker 2: Now, I can love this.
- 31:17Speaker 3: I think has been mentioned like seventeen times.
- 31:20Speaker 1: Actually getting the motivation to do it, Like I said before,
- 31:24Speaker 1: for me, it's always putting on my shoes before doing
- 31:27Speaker 1: a workout is the part that I will procrastinate the most.
- 31:30Speaker 3: Still is that still true?
- 31:31Speaker 1: Yeah, but the ten minute timer thing has really helped.
- 31:34Speaker 1: And also setting them out beforehand.
- 31:36Speaker 3: That tip has been flogged like a dead horse.
- 31:41Speaker 1: Yeah, if you set that timer, then it's only ten
- 31:45Speaker 1: minutes and yeah, if you don't like it, then whatever,
- 31:48Speaker 1: I try something else.
- 31:49Speaker 5: It's not for you, that's fine.
- 31:50Speaker 1: That just reminded me of the time that you went
- 31:52Speaker 1: to the gym before work and you just pack your
- 31:55Speaker 1: boots for work and you just went to the gym,
- 31:58Speaker 1: you came to work wearing jeans and then your runners.
- 32:05Speaker 3: It was so funny.
- 32:07Speaker 2: But all the fucking funniest part of that is that that.
- 32:10Speaker 1: Was such a conundrum. I was like, what the fuck
- 32:13Speaker 1: do I do? I didn't pack my boots. I've only
- 32:15Speaker 1: got like new balanced sneakers to wear my jeans.
- 32:17Speaker 2: I look like my dad.
- 32:19Speaker 3: And now look, did you set the sneaker jeans?
- 32:23Speaker 1: I think that Aailey Beaver must have seen me outside
- 32:26Speaker 1: our old work and it really inspired her.
- 32:29Speaker 3: Hailey Beaver copied you for sure.
- 32:31Speaker 1: Wow, this might not sound like a big deal to
- 32:34Speaker 1: many people. Was traumatic? Did I order a pair of
- 32:38Speaker 1: shoes online from the Iconic? It's a comment back in
- 32:44Speaker 1: the day that the Iconic actually had good shippy, but
- 32:46Speaker 1: I had the same day delivery. They had like a
- 32:48Speaker 1: two hour delivery and same day delivery, and it was
- 32:51Speaker 1: like free.
- 32:52Speaker 3: It was so good.
- 32:53Speaker 5: That's crazy.
- 32:53Speaker 1: Bring it back.
- 32:55Speaker 4: I cannot wear my nikes with this out.
- 32:57Speaker 5: It was so funny.
- 32:59Speaker 1: Anyway, So that side classes in session tip and if
- 33:02Speaker 1: you'd like to send a sh your own question, feel
- 33:05Speaker 1: free to them.
- 33:05Speaker 5: We'll answer it on the next show. Yeah at two
- 33:08Speaker 5: bro chicks. There you go.
- 33:09Speaker 4: So I think that we've all learned from.
- 33:12Speaker 1: Today's episode that self isn't a one size fit all
- 33:16Speaker 1: solution doesn't have to be expensive or time consuming, which
- 33:21Speaker 1: I think is the message that's push on to us
- 33:23Speaker 1: a lot of the time. And it also doesn't have
- 33:25Speaker 1: to be the same for everyone's agreed that still stands
- 33:29Speaker 1: exactly the same, but fucking.
- 33:32Speaker 2: Hell, oh my god, what better at our jobs?
- 33:36Speaker 1: Yeah, we recorded this entire first season in lockdown take
- 33:40Speaker 1: a shot, but we also bulk recorded all the episodes
- 33:44Speaker 1: before releasing them. And then I think something that we
- 33:47Speaker 1: changed for the second season is that we record every week,
- 33:52Speaker 1: and I think that has also been recording in person
- 33:54Speaker 1: and zoom.
- 33:56Speaker 3: But I think my whole thing is like, what good job?
- 33:59Speaker 1: Girls like that even though we just read ourselves for filth,
- 34:02Speaker 1: that was still such.
- 34:04Speaker 3: A good job. I'm so proud of that.
- 34:07Speaker 1: I stand by pretty much all of the tea as well,
- 34:10Speaker 1: and to the chicks who have been with us from
- 34:12Speaker 1: the very start. Thank you, Thank you for putting up
- 34:17Speaker 1: with those sound effects. We will never ever ever do
- 34:19Speaker 1: that again.
- 34:20Speaker 3: Sorry, can we bring back classes intentions?
- 34:24Speaker 1: But oh my god, that was so fun. This was
- 34:27Speaker 1: just such a fun episode to record. But I think
- 34:30Speaker 1: we need to do some more throwback episodes. Let us
- 34:32Speaker 1: know if you enjoyed this. It was so fucking funny
- 34:34Speaker 1: and fun for us. And yeah, love you chicks. Let's
- 34:39Speaker 1: get to number four baby let Thanks for listening and
- 34:43Speaker 1: having us in your ear hols, and thanks to m
- 34:45Speaker 1: I Game Made for making this episode happen by chicks.
- 34:47Speaker 2: Bye,
