- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, here at one leg of Alex Media. I can't
- 0:02Speaker 1: think of two better things to do on Derby Day
- 0:06Speaker 1: than watch the Derby at Long Island Ducks Ballpark, because
- 0:10Speaker 1: two of my dad's favorite things to do. We're going
- 0:13Speaker 1: to the ducks games and horse racing and Kentucky Derby Day.
- 0:16Speaker 1: And you know, lou Turminello is online with me. I
- 0:18Speaker 1: think you know this. Three derbies ago, I can't believe
- 0:22Speaker 1: it's that long. Even four now, we honored my dad
- 0:25Speaker 1: at his church and four derbies later we're carrying on.
- 0:29Speaker 1: I can't believe how long three years ago went by.
- 0:31Speaker 2: All Right, this is great, hey, Alex, and thanks for
- 0:35Speaker 2: having me. As always, time does. There's no true a
- 0:38Speaker 2: cliche than time flies. I mean it really does. Yeah,
- 0:44Speaker 2: Today's Derby Day. It's always a good day. I haven't
- 0:47Speaker 2: followed thoroughbred horse racing this year, so happy.
- 0:54Speaker 1: I love Mike Smith and I don't know if you
- 0:56Speaker 1: know the story of the trainer, well lost his wife
- 0:58Speaker 1: and that's how he got motivated to get into horse racing.
- 1:04Speaker 1: It's a very emotional story for the trainer and Mike Smith,
- 1:07Speaker 1: and hopefully it's so Happy wins it. But you know
- 1:10Speaker 1: he gets the number one post today. Saint John's beneficiar,
- 1:14Speaker 1: but what do you call it? Benefactor? Mike Ripley Repeley
- 1:17Speaker 1: Stables at number one today, So.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Uh, yeah, he is into He is into everything as obviously.
- 1:24Speaker 2: He is involvable with not only Saint John's not only
- 1:27Speaker 2: with horse racing. He's heavily involved with the at the
- 1:31Speaker 2: Spring Football League, the United Football League. So uh And
- 1:35Speaker 2: I think I told you guys, is when I was,
- 1:37Speaker 2: you know, with the Nets about fifteen. No, it was
- 1:40Speaker 2: twenty years ago, because I've been gone in December will
- 1:43Speaker 2: be seventeen years. He was one. He was a potential
- 1:47Speaker 2: buyer for the Nets about two decades ago. So he
- 1:51Speaker 2: is into everything, mister.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Reppoley and the trainer is Mark Glatt, and just a
- 1:58Speaker 1: be precise here, the derby horse for Ripley Stables is
- 2:03Speaker 1: at the one position renegade. So there you go.
- 2:07Speaker 2: So we'll see.
- 2:08Speaker 1: And Ripley's only fifty seven, so he's making moves every year,
- 2:11Speaker 1: it seems like.
- 2:12Speaker 2: So he's a young man. He's got a long way
- 2:15Speaker 2: to go, so we'll see.
- 2:16Speaker 1: But you know, the one position is always tough. I
- 2:17Speaker 1: always think that one position because that's where you really
- 2:21Speaker 1: got to cut in more so than the others. It
- 2:23Speaker 1: is a very tough position to be at. So we'll
- 2:25Speaker 1: see what happens today.
- 2:26Speaker 2: But we will see what happens, all right, I will
- 2:29Speaker 2: be watching.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Well, if you're in New York State, how can you
- 2:33Speaker 1: not be happy for Tape Thompson not only the USA
- 2:36Speaker 1: Gold Meddal winner, but helping the Buffalos Abers get to
- 2:39Speaker 1: a playoff series victory for the first time. And I
- 2:41Speaker 1: don't remember, it's been a while, but what a moment
- 2:45Speaker 1: was in Boston, But still what a moment for Buffalo.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Absolutely first time that day won a playoff series since
- 2:52Speaker 2: two thousand and seven. That's nineteen seasons. In two thousand
- 2:56Speaker 2: and seven, it's want to buy an iPhone in the
- 2:59Speaker 2: United States of America, It wasn't available. That's how long
- 3:02Speaker 2: it's been since the Sabers have won the playoff series. Look,
- 3:06Speaker 2: we knew that the Sabers over the last three or
- 3:08Speaker 2: four years were collecting young talent, and many people thought
- 3:12Speaker 2: they would be in the playoffs two years ago, even
- 3:14Speaker 2: last year, and and they didn't make it. But all
- 3:17Speaker 2: that young talent finally matured and they have they have
- 3:23Speaker 2: good team chemistry. They had their old coach back Lindy Ruff,
- 3:27Speaker 2: who was the coach of the Devils in between his
- 3:31Speaker 2: Buffalo stints and Alex. They won five games in this game.
- 3:38Speaker 2: They won three games at Boston. Only only the first
- 3:42Speaker 2: game when the Buffalo had that comeback in the third
- 3:45Speaker 2: in the third period did the home team win Buffalo.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Very impressive my Alex line. They switched goaltenders up two
- 3:55Speaker 2: games to one, and Alex line was tremendous. But Alex,
- 4:01Speaker 2: they have a deep team. They have a dangerous team,
- 4:05Speaker 2: and they utilize all five players. I mean their defense.
- 4:10Speaker 2: The defense men scored fifteen points in the series, so
- 4:14Speaker 2: they they include everybody, have an excellent offensive team. And
- 4:20Speaker 2: I was glad to see them see them advance. I
- 4:23Speaker 2: was all right, Well.
- 4:25Speaker 1: I will also say this. You know, the Jack Eichley
- 4:29Speaker 1: area era was a low rough in Buffalo, but I
- 4:32Speaker 1: always thought they would have a chance with him on
- 4:34Speaker 1: that team, which has never paid out. I'm glad it's
- 4:36Speaker 1: paying up for them now.
- 4:36Speaker 2: But yeah, and it was good for Ichel. I mean,
- 4:39Speaker 2: Michael had that serious neck injury, had to go for
- 4:42Speaker 2: that serious knick surgery, and then Any won the Stanley
- 4:45Speaker 2: Cup in Vegas, and who knows, maybe leve Vegas and
- 4:49Speaker 2: the Buffalo in the finals. I mean I could I
- 4:52Speaker 2: could see Buffalo continuing to move on. I think they're
- 4:56Speaker 2: that good.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Even the Hurricanes will give everybody fits.
- 5:00Speaker 2: That would be an interesting Yeah, it would be. And
- 5:03Speaker 2: you talk about the Hurricanes, and the Hurricanes will be facing, uh,
- 5:07Speaker 2: the Flyers starting tonight. And obviously we you know, we
- 5:13Speaker 2: thought that we thought that Philadelphia would be Pittsburgh, which
- 5:16Speaker 2: they did be plus Philly is you know, they're they're young,
- 5:20Speaker 2: they're fast, they're tough. They played the series with you know,
- 5:26Speaker 2: with great confidence. Uh. Porta Montane joining him after Michigan
- 5:32Speaker 2: lost the National semifinal was a shot in the Army
- 5:35Speaker 2: was great for them. He was great on the power
- 5:38Speaker 2: play for them. The Flyers. The Flyers are good. The Flyers.
- 5:43Speaker 2: The Flyers are But now I do if you're gonna
- 5:45Speaker 2: ask me, do I think they're gonna beat Carolina four
- 5:49Speaker 2: out of seven? I don't, But they're gonna give him
- 5:53Speaker 2: a tussle. It's not it's I bet you a six
- 5:55Speaker 2: game series at least, and they definitely have a puncher's chance.
- 6:01Speaker 2: The Flyers do.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Look if you can knocked down by the way there's
- 6:04Speaker 1: been sort of a and I hate to say because
- 6:07Speaker 1: the Key and Queen were just in town, but they're
- 6:09Speaker 1: they're knocking down the monarchy of all these different uh
- 6:12Speaker 1: you know, the big the big wigs around here. They're
- 6:15Speaker 1: knocking out Boston and they knocking out the Penguins. I mean,
- 6:18Speaker 1: it's a very new look playoffs that we were normally
- 6:21Speaker 1: used to.
- 6:21Speaker 2: So I kind of like it. I like the pay
- 6:23Speaker 2: well you bring up the Penguins. Where do they go
- 6:26Speaker 2: from here? They were supposed to be supposed to be
- 6:29Speaker 2: in the lottery this year. They didn't. They had a
- 6:31Speaker 2: tremendous season during the regular season, but they haven't won
- 6:40Speaker 2: the playoff series in nine years. They missed the They've
- 6:42Speaker 2: missed the playoffs five times, I believe five times during
- 6:45Speaker 2: that time. Now they missed the playoff three times and
- 6:49Speaker 2: they've been knocked out five times in the first round.
- 6:52Speaker 2: So are they going to run it back? As they say?
- 6:59Speaker 2: Malcolms a free AI agent, Crosby's a year older. They
- 7:03Speaker 2: have some questions, but they had a tremendous year, you know,
- 7:05Speaker 2: But I'm not surprised, and we talked about it. I
- 7:08Speaker 2: thought Philadelphia was going to beat them even though they
- 7:10Speaker 2: didn't have home ice, and they did.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Well, they did well. We'll happen to see what happens.
- 7:15Speaker 1: I just want to make one morning about Buffalo. If
- 7:18Speaker 1: you're a Rangers connection or a Devil's connection. I mean, look,
- 7:21Speaker 1: Lindy Ruff, he made the Circuit dout of Year. But
- 7:23Speaker 1: I'm happy for him. But they's fighting success up in Buffalo.
- 7:26Speaker 1: That's that's pretty cool.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Oh, no doubt about it. I mean, he's one. He's
- 7:30Speaker 2: in the top five I believe in in games coached
- 7:33Speaker 2: in games one and you know he is. He is
- 7:38Speaker 2: mister Buffalo when it comes to their coaching history, without
- 7:43Speaker 2: a doubt.
- 7:43Speaker 1: And he said he played for them back in the day.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Also right, yes, Well, and I'll tell you one thing, Alex,
- 7:51Speaker 2: there was a lot of there was a lot going
- 7:52Speaker 2: on last night, so it was hard to pick and choose.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Well, let's put off on the eastern side because so
- 7:58Speaker 1: now what it's game said, and now this this Canadians Montreal,
- 8:02Speaker 1: this Canadians Lightning series is so back and forth, but
- 8:05Speaker 1: they just keep fighting every game. It's amazing to watch.
- 8:09Speaker 2: Well, that's what I was gonna lead into. Last night.
- 8:12Speaker 2: I saw an epic, spectacular goaltending duel between the Canadians
- 8:20Speaker 2: Jacob Dobis and future Hall of Famer Andre Vasilevski. Vasileski,
- 8:25Speaker 2: who has not had a great first round or spectacular
- 8:30Speaker 2: last night the reason why there is a game seven
- 8:32Speaker 2: tomorrow night. It was one of the best zero zero
- 8:36Speaker 2: hockey games after regulation that I've seen in a long time.
- 8:40Speaker 2: And every game has been a one goal game. The
- 8:47Speaker 2: gold differential is even through six games, and you can't
- 8:53Speaker 2: really pick between the two teams. That's how close they are.
- 8:56Speaker 2: There's not a lot of space, there's not a lot
- 8:58Speaker 2: of room on the ice. Teams are playing at the
- 9:01Speaker 2: top of their game. Tomorrow night, Game seven in Tampa,
- 9:06Speaker 2: Oh boy, I mean it's again, even though Tampa's playing
- 9:09Speaker 2: at home. I'm gonna make it a toss up. I'm
- 9:11Speaker 2: making it. I'm making the game a toss up. Alex.
- 9:14Speaker 2: I really think Montreal has a great chance, great chance
- 9:17Speaker 2: to win the game tomorrow night. I mean, this team.
- 9:23Speaker 1: You just love the energy of this team.
- 9:24Speaker 2: So now the one thing that Tampa does not have,
- 9:27Speaker 2: and it's you know, it definitely affected him. They don't
- 9:30Speaker 2: have Victor Hedman. You know, Victor Hedmon, future Hall of
- 9:33Speaker 2: Famer he can control the game. He's been out. You
- 9:36Speaker 2: know this this entire first round. That's not taking anything
- 9:41Speaker 2: away from Montreal, not at all. Montreal is a team
- 9:44Speaker 2: on the common. They this is no run. They're going
- 9:47Speaker 2: to be good for a long time, just like Buffalo,
- 9:50Speaker 2: just like Anaheim who beat Edmonton. These teams are not
- 9:57Speaker 2: going away. These are young, fast, skit teams with a
- 10:01Speaker 2: lot of skilled players. And I don't know what's going
- 10:06Speaker 2: to happen. And I know we're now jumping to the West,
- 10:08Speaker 2: but I don't know what's gonna happen to Edmonton. I mean,
- 10:12Speaker 2: they have two of the best three or four HIVE
- 10:14Speaker 2: players in the league, and McDavid the best player in
- 10:17Speaker 2: the league, and dry Sidle Dry Style had ten points
- 10:21Speaker 2: in the series. They still lost to inexperienced the Anaheim
- 10:26Speaker 2: Duck team, which had fourteen players playing their first playoff
- 10:30Speaker 2: round ever.
- 10:31Speaker 1: True, but I have to say, I have to say,
- 10:33Speaker 1: you know, Crider has had a lot of player experience
- 10:35Speaker 1: here at New York, so.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Well it was Crider. They have Klown, who's a Stanley
- 10:40Speaker 2: Cup winner. They have Troubra, but still fourteen out of
- 10:43Speaker 2: twenty skater fourteen out of twenty players including the two goaltenders.
- 10:47Speaker 2: That's a lot of first time playoff, playoff and experience
- 10:51Speaker 2: and Alex it didn't look like Anaheim looked scared or
- 10:55Speaker 2: inexperienced Edmonton. Usually you look at Edmonton, Oh my god,
- 11:01Speaker 2: you gotta watch outs them there fast, but kind ofheih
- 11:04Speaker 2: much faster.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Well, you know, day outscored. I mean the fact that
- 11:09Speaker 1: the scores were not even really close at times is
- 11:11Speaker 1: more interesting part. Like they were seven something at one
- 11:14Speaker 1: point in one of the games. It's like point there's
- 11:16Speaker 1: a different, different kind of outcome because normally the Wheelers
- 11:19Speaker 1: run through all these series.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, they got great performances. Anaheim from Leo
- 11:23Speaker 2: Leo Carlson, from US Olympian Jackson Lacombe. The guy was
- 11:31Speaker 2: was was just tremendous. Uh and he he was on
- 11:35Speaker 2: the ice many times, most of the time when McDavid
- 11:37Speaker 2: was on the ice and dry sidle. I I give
- 11:42Speaker 2: him a chance against I give them a chance against Vegas,
- 11:46Speaker 2: I really do. I do give him a chance again
- 11:49Speaker 2: against Vegas in the next round. McDavid said something that
- 11:52Speaker 2: he was totally accurate on post game. You know, Connor
- 11:55Speaker 2: McDavid said, we were just ordinary all all season and
- 11:59Speaker 2: they were they were ordinary all season. I don't know
- 12:02Speaker 2: what the future of McDavid's going to be, but again,
- 12:05Speaker 2: Edmonton went into this playoff series with poor defense and
- 12:11Speaker 2: they do not have Stanley Cup winning goaltending. McDavid has
- 12:16Speaker 2: two years left on his deal. Well, it's actually an
- 12:18Speaker 2: extension that kicks in next year that he took at
- 12:21Speaker 2: a major, major discount, hometown discount, because he wanted to
- 12:25Speaker 2: leave room in the salary cap for them to compliment
- 12:29Speaker 2: him put effective players around him. Alex, I'm not sure.
- 12:32Speaker 2: I'm not so sure McDavid's going to play these two
- 12:36Speaker 2: years in in Edmonton and go a free agency. He
- 12:40Speaker 2: might get trade at the end of this first this
- 12:42Speaker 2: next year, Well, we'll have.
- 12:44Speaker 1: To see that. Now. You mentioned they played the Mammoth
- 12:47Speaker 1: last night, and you know, I'm very impressed by the Mammoth.
- 12:52Speaker 1: I think they even from when they were last year,
- 12:56Speaker 1: I think they've got a chance to really grow in
- 12:59Speaker 1: this confidence we'll see.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Yeah, no, no doubt about it. I think they're another
- 13:04Speaker 2: team that with that that's on the com I mean,
- 13:07Speaker 2: this is not this was not a one and and
- 13:10Speaker 2: done and we know every year, unlike the NBA, there's
- 13:14Speaker 2: there's no guarantee you're gonna make the playoffs. Look at
- 13:16Speaker 2: Winnipeg President's Trophy winner last year. Look at Washington best
- 13:20Speaker 2: record in the Eastern Conference, the one see in Eastern
- 13:23Speaker 2: Conference last year. Both teams didn't make the playoffs. So
- 13:26Speaker 2: so there there's there's no guarantee. But uh uh, there
- 13:33Speaker 2: are a lot of a lot of good young teams
- 13:35Speaker 2: who are ready to take the next step. And uh,
- 13:37Speaker 2: I'm looking forward to that Tampa Montreal game Game seven.
- 13:41Speaker 2: It's it should be. I mean, the first six games
- 13:43Speaker 2: have been remarkable and so I assume it's going to
- 13:46Speaker 2: be that way tomorrow. And I but uh, I would
- 13:50Speaker 2: say it's a toss up, even though you know, Tampa
- 13:52Speaker 2: Bay has the pedigree of championships and a lot of
- 13:56Speaker 2: those guys are still on uh on the you know,
- 14:01Speaker 2: on the lightning. I think it's a toss up. So
- 14:05Speaker 2: we will see. But it's been a very good first
- 14:07Speaker 2: round as well.
- 14:10Speaker 1: And by the way, uh, you know, I just keep
- 14:12Speaker 1: thinking of it. Speaking of staying in Canada, right, So
- 14:16Speaker 1: when the RJ bart I want to switch sports here
- 14:18Speaker 1: because I mean last night, when when RJ Barrett got
- 14:20Speaker 1: traded for Obi. I was little unsure. I think I
- 14:23Speaker 1: told you that I was a little short time because
- 14:25Speaker 1: I thought RJ was contributing well to the dicks of
- 14:28Speaker 1: the time. But Obi really has come on strong. And
- 14:32Speaker 1: look at Barrett is relevant. I mean you by able
- 14:35Speaker 1: to hear his name sometimes because we're not following him
- 14:37Speaker 1: as much. But there he is making that Halliburton style
- 14:40Speaker 1: three last night for the Raptors. Uh. Pretty. I'm happy
- 14:44Speaker 1: for the kid, like I've always liked him in New York.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Also, oh, he's a Toronto area native. He can score.
- 14:52Speaker 2: He did not. He was not having a good game
- 14:54Speaker 2: last night. And I actually just saw the ending of
- 14:59Speaker 2: the game on TV and when he hit that shot,
- 15:04Speaker 2: and I thought that, I thought he missed it obviously,
- 15:06Speaker 2: and you know, it bounced, you know, fifteen feet in
- 15:10Speaker 2: the air, and right away it reminded me of another
- 15:13Speaker 2: Raptor shot when Kawhi Leonard hit that shot in Game
- 15:16Speaker 2: seven of the Eastern Conference Finals against Philly that bounced
- 15:20Speaker 2: around and fell through. So over the years, we've seen,
- 15:25Speaker 2: you know, we've seen I mean you go back to
- 15:27Speaker 2: Game five NIX Miami when Alan Houston had a shot
- 15:31Speaker 2: similar to that. As you said, to Halliburton, Kawhi Leonard
- 15:36Speaker 2: and now we can add RJ. Barrett Alex. That was
- 15:42Speaker 2: sometimes with Cleveland.
- 15:43Speaker 1: That Leonard shot, I'll never forget it like that. That's
- 15:46Speaker 1: something that I'll never forget, you know. And that was
- 15:48Speaker 1: such another pivol shot for Toronto. But man, he did
- 15:52Speaker 1: on his back foot too. That's remember most about it.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Oh yeah, no, And that led them to winning the championship,
- 15:59Speaker 2: which again I'm not I don't I'm not looking to
- 16:01Speaker 2: knock the Raptors, but if Klay, Thompson and and Durant
- 16:07Speaker 2: weren't injured to the finals, Toronto's not winning that championship?
- 16:11Speaker 2: Did it?
- 16:12Speaker 1: Was? It was? It was just cool to see them
- 16:15Speaker 1: when the whole city comes around, you know, it's funny
- 16:16Speaker 1: for a hockey town. They really love their basketball and
- 16:19Speaker 1: I think that gets underrated. Of course, they love baseball too,
- 16:21Speaker 1: I think.
- 16:22Speaker 2: But for I would say after the Leafs, after the
- 16:25Speaker 2: maple Leafs, the Jays are the blue Jays are are
- 16:28Speaker 2: they are the most popular team in Toronto? And then
- 16:32Speaker 2: the Raptors.
- 16:33Speaker 1: Yeah, but toront A rat. Look at the Raptors fans
- 16:35Speaker 1: that just gathered outside the watch party. That was pretty cool.
- 16:37Speaker 1: Last night, so they have a good fan base, but.
- 16:40Speaker 2: Absolutely they They absolutely do that without question.
- 16:44Speaker 1: All right, So tonight they await the Knicks. Now await
- 16:47Speaker 1: the winner of the Celtics and the Sixers, And I
- 16:49Speaker 1: think it's gonna be a chellenty either way, because if
- 16:53Speaker 1: the Sixers win, it means Maxie and then bieb are
- 16:56Speaker 1: going to be a challenge for the Knicks in the
- 16:58Speaker 1: next round. But if the Celtics brings, of course they're
- 17:00Speaker 1: gonna be a challenge. So the Knicks have to button
- 17:03Speaker 1: up and buckle that a little bit.
- 17:06Speaker 2: Well, Alex, I think if you're a Knick fan, which
- 17:12Speaker 2: I certainly am not, but if you're a Knick fan
- 17:15Speaker 2: and looking at this subjectively like I always do, I
- 17:18Speaker 2: would rather play Boston even though I'm going to be
- 17:20Speaker 2: playing the first two games at home Philadelphia. I mean,
- 17:26Speaker 2: they poo pooed the regular season, which gave them the
- 17:29Speaker 2: seventh seed. Atlanta did not poop poo the regular season.
- 17:32Speaker 2: You know, they played these young guys and Atlanta has
- 17:35Speaker 2: no stars. They might be developing some, but they have
- 17:37Speaker 2: no stars. They were never a threat to the Knicks.
- 17:41Speaker 2: I'm surprised that the Knicks were down two games to one,
- 17:43Speaker 2: and then the Knicks the last three games totally beat
- 17:45Speaker 2: the living crap out of them. Really, from from the
- 17:49Speaker 2: start of Game four to the destruction in Game six,
- 17:54Speaker 2: the Knicks were never threatened. They were never threatened Alex
- 17:56Speaker 2: in any game. Now the Knick can't still have to
- 18:01Speaker 2: keep their foot on the gas pedal. They have to
- 18:03Speaker 2: keep their mind clear. But if you're a Knick fan,
- 18:06Speaker 2: I would rather play Boston, even though the first two
- 18:08Speaker 2: games are in Boston, because with Boston it's a hit
- 18:13Speaker 2: and miss. The three times they've shot lower than thirty
- 18:17Speaker 2: percent in this series, they're own three thirty six percent
- 18:22Speaker 2: are higher, they're three to zero. When you live on that,
- 18:25Speaker 2: and we saw it in the last year. Last year's
- 18:27Speaker 2: playoff series against the Knicks, when they were up twenty
- 18:30Speaker 2: in the first two games, they kept poisting threes and
- 18:32Speaker 2: allowed the Knicks back in the game. I think the Knicks.
- 18:35Speaker 2: I think the Knicks would beat the Celtics again the sixers.
- 18:41Speaker 2: Nick Nurse is a good coach. You know, they have
- 18:44Speaker 2: Edgecombe now, they have maxi if and beats healthy that
- 18:49Speaker 2: they that gives the Knicks a problem that they don't
- 18:52Speaker 2: have against the Celtics. They don't have to worry about
- 18:54Speaker 2: the Celtics around the rim. They're inside game again. Even
- 19:01Speaker 2: though they would start at home against Philly. I think
- 19:04Speaker 2: that they have a better chance and they could be
- 19:06Speaker 2: either team. Don't get me wrong, They'll be they could
- 19:08Speaker 2: be either team. I did they have a better chance
- 19:10Speaker 2: against Boston. I really do. And you know, we talked
- 19:17Speaker 2: about this is the Knick's best chance to get to
- 19:19Speaker 2: the NBA Finals. And depending what happens to Ocallama City,
- 19:23Speaker 2: if they get upset by the Lakers, which I don't think,
- 19:26Speaker 2: or if they play San Antonio in the Western Conference finals,
- 19:30Speaker 2: but this is the knicks best chance to get to
- 19:33Speaker 2: the finals. There's a lot of fullow teams in the NBA.
- 19:37Speaker 2: The whole East is floored. They're just you know, do
- 19:41Speaker 2: you believe in Cleveland? I don't. I don't know how Detroit,
- 19:48Speaker 2: an offensively challenged team in Detroit, came back from a
- 19:51Speaker 2: twenty four point deficit last night. How Orlando blew that
- 19:57Speaker 2: game is beyond my comprehend.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Uh.
- 20:01Speaker 2: They scored nineteen points in the second half. Orlando missed
- 20:05Speaker 2: twenty three straight field goal attempts, which was they missed.
- 20:08Speaker 2: They went over an hour in real time when out
- 20:11Speaker 2: scoring a basket, according to one report. So I don't know.
- 20:17Speaker 2: I mean, I still think that Detroit can lose at
- 20:20Speaker 2: home tomorrow night in Game seven. It's been a very,
- 20:23Speaker 2: very un un It's just been a weird first round,
- 20:29Speaker 2: not a typical NBA first round the playoffs. But this
- 20:32Speaker 2: is the next best chance, Alex. This is the next
- 20:35Speaker 2: best chance that they've had, probably since they or.
- 20:39Speaker 1: This is their prime, this is this is the moment,
- 20:41Speaker 1: this is the but they cannot give it another twelve
- 20:46Speaker 1: point lead up in this series. They just cannot get
- 20:48Speaker 1: away with them this year.
- 20:49Speaker 2: But Alex, are the Knicks or any of these teams
- 20:52Speaker 2: in Eastern Conference better than the Knicks? I don't think so.
- 20:56Speaker 2: I mean, if the Knicks loses next round, it wouldn't
- 20:59Speaker 2: surprise me. But once you know, it wouldn't surprise me
- 21:02Speaker 2: if they win either. I mean, none of knows these
- 21:05Speaker 2: teams are better than the Knicks. It's a toss up.
- 21:07Speaker 2: It's it's the typical it's the typical toss up.
- 21:11Speaker 1: And then the beggar's question, like if the Celticts are good,
- 21:14Speaker 1: why did it takes seven to get to here? You
- 21:16Speaker 1: know what I mean? So, it's gonna be well.
- 21:18Speaker 2: I just I just, I just I just said it.
- 21:20Speaker 2: You know, they live and die by the three, but.
- 21:22Speaker 1: They're also wearing each other out, and I think that's
- 21:24Speaker 1: the best part for the Knicks right now. So we'll
- 21:26Speaker 1: have to see all right elsewhere in the NBA the series.
- 21:31Speaker 1: I want to keep tabs. I haven't kept those as much.
- 21:33Speaker 1: But what's going on with the Lakers? I mean, I
- 21:35Speaker 1: Donkics not.
- 21:36Speaker 2: Back yet or what's happening now donkits is knocked back?
- 21:38Speaker 2: It they they finally polished off the the Rockets last night.
- 21:43Speaker 2: Obviously they will help along by the flow at that
- 21:47Speaker 2: The rant only played one game, but again they played
- 21:50Speaker 2: without Reeves, they played without Donkis and donkys Is supposed
- 21:53Speaker 2: to be missed the first U two games of the
- 21:56Speaker 2: series against Oklahoma City. I can't see Oklahoma City losing
- 22:02Speaker 2: the series. I think the Lakers will give them a
- 22:05Speaker 2: little a little bit of a tussle. But you know,
- 22:09Speaker 2: Lebron's forty one and Lebron the only reason that you
- 22:12Speaker 2: know they won a couple of games in the series
- 22:14Speaker 2: is because Lebron can still It's still great, but he's
- 22:17Speaker 2: still but he's still he's forty one, and Oklahoma City
- 22:21Speaker 2: has as good a defense as there is in the league,
- 22:23Speaker 2: and they're deep team barring injury. I can't I can't see, okay, see,
- 22:30Speaker 2: all right, maybe if you want to give the Lakers
- 22:32Speaker 2: six games, depending on if the dockage comes back, I
- 22:35Speaker 2: probably would give them six games. But Oklahoma State is
- 22:39Speaker 2: gonna win the series, and I mean I think they're
- 22:43Speaker 2: gonna win the championship again.
- 22:47Speaker 1: Well, you know, like the Avalanche the Thunder, well, not
- 22:51Speaker 1: the Avalanche. We like the because last year's winners even
- 22:54Speaker 1: in there. But like the Avalanche, the Thunder are very
- 22:57Speaker 1: heavily favored in this and the Thunder could really repeat.
- 22:59Speaker 1: I really believe that. So I'm sick, all right, you
- 23:02Speaker 1: know I'm gonna ask you next, right, so tomorrow. Last night,
- 23:06Speaker 1: Petere Alonzo comes back to New York and it's almost
- 23:09Speaker 1: like you told David Stearns you missed me yet he
- 23:12Speaker 1: is a homer. His first step at the Yankee Stadium,
- 23:14Speaker 1: as it were, it's like he can't script baseball.
- 23:18Speaker 2: Like that, Alex, you are one thousand percent on the money. Uh.
- 23:23Speaker 2: You know? He is first at bat in New York
- 23:26Speaker 2: City since signing with the Orioles. He's that home run
- 23:31Speaker 2: and it doesn't matter about the one loss. That was
- 23:34Speaker 2: just a personal statement he made. And I know he
- 23:37Speaker 2: hasn't had a good first month, and the team he
- 23:41Speaker 2: used to play for us had the worst month in
- 23:43Speaker 2: my opinion, in franchise history. I'm not counting those early
- 23:46Speaker 2: expansion years because they shouldn't count. Look, this was one
- 23:54Speaker 2: of the biggest mistakes that he could make. We talked
- 23:58Speaker 2: about it. We were on live that day when he
- 24:01Speaker 2: when he signed with the Orioles. And again, one hundred
- 24:05Speaker 2: and fifty five million over five years for a team
- 24:08Speaker 2: that really has no payroll, payroll, you know, ceiling. Theygno
- 24:16Speaker 2: as high as they want. Thirty one million of the
- 24:19Speaker 2: year for five years, Alex, even if in year four
- 24:21Speaker 2: or five he was done. The Mets can absorb that
- 24:24Speaker 2: can absorb that contract. They could. He was a homegrown Met.
- 24:28Speaker 2: He was a great run producer for the Mets. The
- 24:31Speaker 2: Mets can't score. David Stearns is put together one of
- 24:38Speaker 2: the worst rosters that you can construct when you have
- 24:42Speaker 2: unlimited funds.
- 24:43Speaker 1: Lew It's almost like the Rangers on the Diamond. I mean,
- 24:46Speaker 1: he blew up the team, is what he.
- 24:48Speaker 2: Did, Alex, he's been it's been a disaster. You know,
- 24:53Speaker 2: the worst free agent signing in Mets history, I'll give
- 24:56Speaker 2: it to you. It's not a player. The worst free
- 24:58Speaker 2: agent signing in Mets history up to now, and hopefully
- 25:02Speaker 2: I'll be wrong, but right is David Stearns. David Stearns
- 25:08Speaker 2: fifty million dollars for five years, ten million dollars a year.
- 25:12Speaker 2: That's a pretty good salary. That's the worst free agent
- 25:14Speaker 2: signing the Mets have made in their history. He has
- 25:17Speaker 2: ruined the Mets. I mean, Lewis, Robert, we talked about it.
- 25:22Speaker 2: The guy, the guy can't play. They moved all these
- 25:26Speaker 2: guys around the different positions. You know, they're you know,
- 25:30Speaker 2: Tyrone Taylor is a fantastic defensive center fielder, but he's
- 25:34Speaker 2: a complimentary player. The Mets are playing complimentary players as starters. Alex.
- 25:43Speaker 2: They're gonna lose ninety games.
- 25:46Speaker 1: This is what did they follow up?
- 25:49Speaker 2: Yeah? They did, they did. They won four to three
- 25:53Speaker 2: in Anaheim. But this is on him, This is on
- 26:00Speaker 2: directly on Stern's and I really wonder how Stephen Cohen
- 26:08Speaker 2: thinks about this. Behind closed doors. He's been very very quiet,
- 26:12Speaker 2: but this.
- 26:12Speaker 1: Has been the tweeter in chief for the Mets. He
- 26:15Speaker 1: never tweets anymore.
- 26:16Speaker 2: So you know he doesn't and there's nothing to tweet
- 26:20Speaker 2: about except this is. This has been a disaster now
- 26:25Speaker 2: and getting and I'm gonna attack some of you Yankee fans.
- 26:31Speaker 2: We always complain about Brian Cashman, who always complained about Boone.
- 26:38Speaker 2: Stop complaining, Stop complaining Cashman. Yes, all those years and
- 26:47Speaker 2: even now check book baseball has been easy. But he's
- 26:50Speaker 2: still been able to bridge analytics and checkbook baseball and
- 26:55Speaker 2: uh he ran the team back from last year basically, and.
- 27:01Speaker 1: Well, you know what, they're the twenty one month clip.
- 27:04Speaker 1: That's pretty good. Actually so well.
- 27:06Speaker 2: Again, don't don't complain, Yankee fans. You haven't had a
- 27:10Speaker 2: losing season since nineteen ninety two.
- 27:14Speaker 1: The second thing is, I don't know how they're the
- 27:15Speaker 1: first place with the lineup they have. It's really remarkable
- 27:17Speaker 1: to me.
- 27:18Speaker 2: Well, I'll tell you why. There's only four teams in
- 27:20Speaker 2: the American League that are over five hundred. There's nine
- 27:23Speaker 2: teams in the nationallygue over five hundred. As we record this,
- 27:27Speaker 2: I could I could say this barring major injuries, and
- 27:31Speaker 2: I hopefully they don't have any The Yankees have clinched
- 27:36Speaker 2: American League East already, I mean five months ago. They're
- 27:42Speaker 2: not losing well.
- 27:43Speaker 1: And then last Saturday the Red Sox fire the Cora
- 27:46Speaker 1: and a few other guys. It was a whole mess
- 27:50Speaker 1: of things. And you know, I know that's going to
- 27:52Speaker 1: make the team better. But I want to tell you.
- 27:55Speaker 1: Philly then followed suit and maddenly. You know he could
- 27:59Speaker 1: get them. It could be like McKeon and the Marlins.
- 28:03Speaker 2: You know that, yes, that that could be. They could
- 28:07Speaker 2: have one last gasp, no doubt about it. The Phillies
- 28:10Speaker 2: are an old team, but the managerial switch from Thompson
- 28:14Speaker 2: to Don manningly has helped them, at least in the
- 28:17Speaker 2: early going. They got that managerial bump. They've won four
- 28:20Speaker 2: in a row after losing eleven out of twelve. So
- 28:26Speaker 2: uh yeah. Sometimes sometimes the coaching change the managerial change,
- 28:31Speaker 2: most of the time you see see a bump. So
- 28:34Speaker 2: we'll have to see. But the other thing with the Yankees,
- 28:38Speaker 2: the Yankees pitching. The Yankees starting pitching is spectacular and
- 28:44Speaker 2: they don't even have Cole or Rodonia. And you know,
- 28:47Speaker 2: I'm not a big fan of rodonnd. I think he's
- 28:49Speaker 2: that good. But you know, Cole a true any era
- 28:53Speaker 2: of bulldog, you can pitch in any ear if they
- 28:56Speaker 2: if they just let him go nine innings, he can
- 28:58Speaker 2: pitch nine innings, you know. And Schlittler and Max Freed,
- 29:05Speaker 2: Will Warren is coming on. This pitching staff is probably
- 29:11Speaker 2: as good as anybody in baseball, probably just as good
- 29:14Speaker 2: as the Dodgers pitching staff, I mean, barring injuries, Alex.
- 29:20Speaker 2: Another Eastern Conference, another Eastern Division championship for the for
- 29:25Speaker 2: the Yankees, I can't I can't see it. Maybe Toronto
- 29:28Speaker 2: will threaten them a little bit, But yes, the Yankees
- 29:32Speaker 2: the back end of their bullpen. I'm not I'm not
- 29:35Speaker 2: great bednar Fan. I don't know how you know how
- 29:39Speaker 2: great he is, but you know he's decent enough. And
- 29:42Speaker 2: again then at the trade deadline, the Yankees might make
- 29:45Speaker 2: a trade to shore show up the back of the bullpen.
- 29:48Speaker 2: But that I see them, I see them staying on
- 29:52Speaker 2: this trajectory through the playoffs.
- 30:00Speaker 1: A little. Will have to see what happens. But for now,
- 30:02Speaker 1: there's been a nice conversation. Anything else on your mind
- 30:05Speaker 1: before you wrap up Terminal's take this week?
- 30:07Speaker 2: Anything else on my mind? Let's let's see.
- 30:11Speaker 3: Uh, let's see what we got to talk about. I
- 30:16Speaker 3: know there was, and we talked about this a couple
- 30:20Speaker 3: of weeks ago, like six weeks ago, and it was
- 30:23Speaker 3: reported this week, but we had it here first with
- 30:25Speaker 3: my contact that the Jets were interested in possibly signing
- 30:30Speaker 3: Russell Wilson as their backup quarterback. Russell Wilson wants to
- 30:34Speaker 3: stay in New York obviously, his wife wants to stay
- 30:37Speaker 3: in New York because of their business opportunities. But it
- 30:40Speaker 3: looks like as of this morning, that the networks are
- 30:43Speaker 3: talking to him. So it looks like CBS is the
- 30:47Speaker 3: front runner to sign Russell Wilson. So we have to
- 30:52Speaker 3: keep an eye on that story.
- 30:53Speaker 2: And then the Jet's gonna have to look up look
- 30:55Speaker 2: at for a backup quarterback somewhere else, and then wait
- 30:59Speaker 2: till next April when they will be drafting somewhere in
- 31:04Speaker 2: the first round in that quarterback which draft last next year,
- 31:09Speaker 2: there hopefully will be their future franchise quarterback, which we've
- 31:13Speaker 2: been waiting forever. So we'll see.
- 31:17Speaker 1: Well, you did call it. I'd pull up the audio
- 31:19Speaker 1: and play that for people, but for now, louis always
- 31:22Speaker 1: bludge on Terminalo's take time for some baseball day and
- 31:24Speaker 1: it's gonna be a busy day. Yere one leg of
- 31:26Speaker 1: by Alex Media. I can't wait, Alex.
- 31:29Speaker 2: Yes, you've been very busy lately. I mean I can't
- 31:32Speaker 2: even keep up with with all your postings.
- 31:34Speaker 1: We keep at it, all right, Louis, love you man.
- 31:37Speaker 2: All right, Thank you, buddy, Appreciate it as always.
- 31:40Speaker 1: Have a great day, yes, sir, thank you,
