- 14:28titled Apple CEO Tim Cook visits Kentucky amid air quality alert.
- 14:34Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, visited Kentucky last week as
- 14:39the company prepares for the launch of its latest iPhone models.
- 14:44Cook toured the Corning Plant in Harrisburg, which is set
- 14:47to serve as the exclusive manufacturer of cover glass for
- 14:51the iPhone and Apple Watch. This visit aligns with Apple's
- 14:56broader investment initiatives aimed at enhancing America and manufacturing capabilities.
- 15:02During his trip, Cook also stopped at the Apple store
- 15:06at Fritz Farm in Lexington, where he engaged with a
- 15:09retail employee and customers. His visit was strategically timed with
- 15:14the commencement of pre orders for the latest iPhones, which
- 15:18began on September twelfth and are slated for official release
- 15:22on September nineteen. Cook expressed his appreciation for the interactions
- 15:27he had with the staff during this pivotal week for Apple.
- 15:32Air quality concerns in the region, complicating the excitement surrounding
- 15:36the new product launches. A Code Orange air quality alert
- 15:40has been issued for the Louisville metro area, which includes
- 15:44parts of Jefferson, Oldham, and Bullet counties in Kentucky, as
- 15:48well as several counties in Indiana. This alert signifies that
- 15:53air quality may be unhealthy for sensitive groups, which include
- 15:57the elderly, children, and individuals with pre existing respiratory conditions
- 16:02such as asthma and chronic bronchitis. Local health officials have
- 16:07indicated that this air quality issue is linked to stagnant
- 16:12atmospheric conditions that have resulted in rising ground level ozone levels.
- 16:18With temperatures in the louisvill expected to remain in the mid
- 16:20to upper eighties for the next ten days. Residents are
- 16:24cautioned to limit outdoor activities, particularly during peak afternoon hours,
- 16:29when ozone concentrations are at the highest recommendations for residents.
- 16:36To mitigate exposure to poor air quality, local health authorities
- 16:40have advised various preventative measures. These include encouraging residents to
- 16:45carpool bike when possible and avoid idling vehicles to reduce emissions.
- 16:51Following these guidelines can help lessen the impact of elevated
- 16:55ozone levels on community health. Background on Apple's manufacturing efforts,
- 17:02the visit to the Corning plant highlights Apple's commitment to
- 17:05bolstering domestic manufacturing capabilities. Over the years, Apple has announced
- 17:11various initiatives to partner with American manufacturers, contributing to employment opportunities,
- 17:18in economic growth and local communities. The integration of Corning's
- 17:22manufacturing process into Apple's supply chain signifies an ongoing effort
- 17:27to ensure quality and control over its product components as
- 17:33the company prepares for the highly anticipated iPhone release. The
- 17:37intersection of product launches with environmental concerns adds the unexpected
- 17:42layer of complexity for both Apple and Kentucky residents. With
- 17:46an emphasis on innovation and community engagement, the hopes for
- 17:51new products coincide with the need for awareness regarding environmental
- 17:55health conclusion. Tim Cook's visit affirms Apple's dedication to supporting
- 18:01American workers and strengthening its supply chain, while the Code
- 18:06Orange air quality alert emphasizes the importance of public health
- 18:10awareness as residents navigate the challenges of fluctuating air quality.
- 18:16The next article from here Lexington is titled Historic Church
- 18:20in Lexington to become Affordable Housing. Lexington, Kentucky, is set
- 18:26to witness a significant transformation as work begins on a
- 18:30historic church which has been vacant for over twenty years,
- 18:33to convert it into twenty two affordable housing units. The
- 18:37groundbreaking ceremony took place recently at the church, located at
- 18:42five three zero North Martin Luther King Boulevard. Local and
- 18:46state leaders, including Senator Reggie Thomas and Lexington Vice Mayor
- 18:50Dan Wu, attended the event, expressing their support for the
- 18:54project that aims to address the urgent need for affordable
- 18:58housing in the area. With Lexington currently facing a shortfall
- 19:02of twenty three hundred housing units, the focus is particularly
- 19:06on affordable options to meet community needs. Vice Mayor Dan
- 19:11Wu highlighted the critical housing shortage, noting that the majority
- 19:15of demand lies in affordable housing. This endeavor not only
- 19:19seeks to provide housing, but also to revitalize a significant
- 19:23local landmark. The project is being spearheaded by the Kyirshe
- 19:28Development Group, which is led by Humza Kirshe, a Lexington native.
- 19:34Unlike many developers, Kirshe's family has a background in medicine
- 19:39rather than real estate. This unique perspective informs their approach
- 19:43to housing. Acknowledging the profound connection between housing stability and
- 19:48health issues, Humza Kyirshe established the importance of affordable housing
- 19:54in enhancing patient care and follow up. The renovation plan
- 19:58aims to retain the church's historic elements, including its stained
- 20:02glass windows, while transforming the interior into functional living spaces
- 20:07suitable for families and need. The projected completion date for
- 20:12the housing units aligns with this time next year, with
- 20:16the developers committed to preserving the church's historical significance throughout
- 20:20the renovation process. Aksa Kirshi, another member of the Kirshi
- 20:26Development Group, underlined the church's rich history and its original
- 20:31purpose in serving a bustling congregation. Community members have voiced
- 20:37their excitement about the project, looking forward to seeing the
- 20:40repurposed building contribute to an enhanced community spirit and create
- 20:45additional neighbours in the area. The development mirrors the Kirshe
- 20:50family's previous efforts and community enhancement, having converted their mosque
- 20:55into a resource center focused on job placement and rehabilitation
- 20:59for ex felons. As Lexington prepares for this new chapter,
- 21:04stakeholders are hopeful that the transformation of the historic church
- 21:08will not only provide much needed affordable housing, but also
- 21:12inspire community engagement and growth. The next article comes from
- 21:16the September sixteenth, twenty twenty five edition of Louisville Business
- 21:20First and is titled Louisville company makes name in international
- 21:25digital lottery space, written by Stephen Schmidt. When asked to
- 21:30sum up his summer, Brad Cummings said the following a
- 21:34whirlwind in all the right ways. Cummings is the founder
- 21:38and CEO of eq L Games, a Louisville based lottery
- 21:42and gaming solutions company. In June, e q L Games
- 21:47launched a multi year partnership with the Lottery System of
- 21:50the United Arab Emeritus UAE, in which the company will
- 21:55produce both in house games as a part of its
- 21:57New I Lottery marketplace, as well as offered games from
- 22:01affiliated third party vendors. Eq L Games has been working
- 22:06in tandem with a company called The Game LLC, an
- 22:10entertainment company that is part of the UAE based Momentum Group.
- 22:15Bishop Woolsey serves as the director of lottery Operations for
- 22:19the Game. Before that, though he had worked for more
- 22:23than ten years at the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery, where he
- 22:26had been acquainted with Cummings. He was looking for somebody
- 22:30who could deliver a product quickly. Cummings said, it's a
- 22:33very nimble technology and that's probably one of our greatest
- 22:38assets right now. We are the only non legacy tech
- 22:41stack in the lottery industry, so we can move a
- 22:44lot faster than most. Eq L Games was able to
- 22:48have a product up and running within one hundred days
- 22:52when the contract was signed with the UAE Lottery. The
- 22:56games are accessible online for UAE residents. Now. Cummings and
- 23:01his team are about to head to Detroit for an
- 23:04Endeavor National Selection panel event where the company will attempt
- 23:08to earn national status with the organization. As of last check,
- 23:13the last Louisville based company to do so was dan
- 23:16O's Seasoning back in November. As coincidence would have it,
- 23:21the Michigan Lottery is one of two states where EQL
- 23:25Games has an eye Lottery contract, the other being Virginia.
- 23:30It first entered the market in twenty twenty three via
- 23:33Washington d C. Note only fifteen states have passed legislation
- 23:38to allow ee lottery games, Commings said, including Kentucky. In May,
- 23:43EQL Games launched its first in house game, Detroit Tiger's
- 23:48Grand Slam, in a full circle moment given its history
- 23:53in the e instant game, made exclusively for the Michigan Lottery,
- 23:57patrons have to get at least three matching symbols to
- 24:01win prizes. A similar game has also been created for
- 24:04the National Football League's Detroit Lyons. Although Cummings declined to
- 24:09mention specifics, he said the company will enter the markets
- 24:12of Canada and of some of European countries in the
- 24:16next twelve to eighteen months. In addition, the company plans
- 24:20to add five more markets in total to its clientele
- 24:23by next year. The company's revenue has grown twenty seven
- 24:27times from twenty twenty three to twenty twenty four. It
- 24:31anticipates to grow fivefold in twenty twenty five. Shifting away
- 24:36from sports, EQL Games first entered the international scene in
- 24:41twenty twenty three by launching a similar product in Peru.
- 24:45It was the first live lottery launch since the company
- 24:48pivoted away from products connected to live sports in twenty
- 24:51twenty one when it rebranded to its current name. Cummings
- 24:56technically founded the company in twenty ten, known back then
- 25:00as Equi Lottery LLC, but did not start working on
- 25:03the company in earnest until twenty fourteen, when Business first
- 25:08spoke with Cummings. In twenty fifteen, he had developed a
- 25:11game that blended the lottery with betting on horse racing,
- 25:15later to be called Win Place Show. In twenty nineteen,
- 25:20the company had licenses from Major League Baseball, the National
- 25:23Basketball Association, National Hockey League, NASCAR, and Team USA. It
- 25:29was poised to start constructing what Cummings referred to as
- 25:33a game of chance sportsbook concept by essentially offering quick
- 25:38pick parlays picking the correct series of games of live
- 25:42sporting events. The pandemic forced a pivot to something else,
- 25:47and then I realized I had the technology and the
- 25:50rolodex of industry leaders that few others had, and at
- 25:54that time, the digital lottery space was starting to grow
- 25:57in the United States. Eqol Games has a headcount of
- 26:01twenty one employees, approximately a quarter of whom live in
- 26:04the Louisville metro area, including Cummings, Michelle Boyce COO, and
- 26:10Austin Mayberry CTO. The company has an office at eight
- 26:14two five East Market Street in the New lou neighborhood.
- 26:18The next article from Louisville Business First is titled Hosperu's
