- 0:07Trump autographs US currency. Welcome to Mark and Pete, where
- 0:12we look at our favorite current U.S.
- 0:14President and what he's doing with the money and his own
- 0:18branding. Yes, this is Mark and Pete, 2
- 0:21blokes with half an opinion. Now here's our first thought.
- 0:25Mark of amusement, When there's demand for your autograph, you
- 0:30can write your way into history. Unless it's viewed with a belly
- 0:34laugh, then your appeal is a mystery.
- 0:37Yes, and some people might say that when we come to the subject
- 0:40of Donald Trump, yes, he is in fact the set to become the first
- 0:45sitting U.S. President to have his signature
- 0:47on U.S. bank notes. And that's quite an achievement.
- 0:51Well, I think that what we really need to note here is that
- 0:54Donald Trump has made this moved in other ways.
- 0:57He's changing the name of buildings.
- 0:59He's changing the name of government programs in his own
- 1:02name, but placing his signature on a currency note that could be
- 1:07big bucks. So Mr. Pete, I ask you, what do
- 1:10you think about this measure? I'm sure that Donald Trump is
- 1:13rubbing his hands with Glee. It's interesting 1 of this,
- 1:19isn't it? Because it's actually not a not
- 1:21a massive move if you think about it.
- 1:23I mean, so it's not a big move to have presidency which
- 1:26prominently appear, you know, and you can see it.
- 1:29But of course, knowing Trump's skill, main skill, some would
- 1:34say the reason for his success is branding.
- 1:39And if you've got your name on the currency of the country,
- 1:44you've got your name on the money.
- 1:46Visibility is, is going to be there.
- 1:48You know, Trump has gone around, but he's sapping his name on
- 1:51buildings. And sometimes it's just his name
- 1:54on the building. And he had very little to do
- 1:57with the, the architecture or in fact the ownership and, or the
- 2:01building of the building. His name is on the and with the
- 2:04money with with his name on the money, it's sort of almost gives
- 2:10an ownership to it as well as great publicity.
- 2:12His name is there being passed around.
- 2:14You could whether you like him or not, you can see Trump and on
- 2:19money, which is symbolic of power, of course.
- 2:21So I think this is possibly the Britain, the most brilliant
- 2:27brand move that that anyone's done well maybe ever, but
- 2:32certainly in a long time. Well, what what do you think,
- 2:35Mark? You're the the business expert
- 2:37here or the business person that branding, Yeah, good for Trump
- 2:41and the the Trump family brand going forward if it's on the
- 2:45money. Well, I think yes, there's no
- 2:48doubt about that. It's definitely on the money.
- 2:50There's no question about that in in this latest move by the
- 2:52administration. Yes, this latest move by the
- 2:55administration by placing Trump's name with his signature
- 2:59on and he's got a very distinctive signature as well.
- 3:02It's very spiky of many people may have known that in itself.
- 3:06If you talk to a graphologist will reveal a lot of character
- 3:09traits, but his signature is going to go on the 1st $100
- 3:13bills with the signature of Trump and it will be printed in
- 3:18June of 2026. Now the thing here from a
- 3:21business perspective, that means that anyone who's trading,
- 3:24buying things, selling things, yes, what you're doing is
- 3:27effectively passing through Donald Trump.
- 3:30Yes, you are. You are seeing all over the
- 3:35place. Here's what he needs to do next,
- 3:37I guess. You know, that's on banknotes,
- 3:38of course. So what he needs to do, he's get
- 3:41get his name onto digital currency as well.
- 3:43Well, he started that, isn't he with the Trump?
- 3:46Isn't there a Trump coin? And so you know, he's going to
- 3:50get his name everywhere. But yes, on banknotes, it's
- 3:53certainly a good step in the right direction to to, to a good
- 3:57direction, right direction to promoting your brand and giving
- 4:01the impression of power. Well, power for sure.
- 4:05What I'm also curious about is to how long they'll stay in
- 4:07circulation that Donald Trump's got at least another three years
- 4:11to go. Now, of course, once that he
- 4:14comes out of administration, some of those notes are still
- 4:18going to be in circulation. Of course, there are many people
- 4:21who will definitely be probably thinking if I actually could
- 4:25have some of the first notes and if you were to keep them.
- 4:28So here's a here's a thought folks.
- 4:30Why not just keep them? Keep one at least because it
- 4:34might be very valuable, because I can almost certain that I
- 4:38think what's going to happen is people are going to strip them
- 4:40out at the moment he's gone. And if you've still got one or
- 4:43two left and they've not been incinerated, they can be worth
- 4:47quite a lot as a sort of valuable antique.
- 4:51So it's an antique of the future that may be coming up here.
- 4:53Yes, yes, future, future antique.
- 4:56Look, an interesting historical point is that throughout
- 5:01history, putting your name on Monday and often your image on
- 5:05money has been this assertion of power because you're then
- 5:10saying, well, look, I'm in control of trade, which of
- 5:12course just controls people's lives.
- 5:17Back in the the biblical days, while in the time of Jesus,
- 5:21Jesus commented on the fact that Caesar's name was on the coins
- 5:27and said in famous exchange, rent and render unto Caesar that
- 5:31which is Caesar's and to God that which is God's.
- 5:34And you know, the God, yes, Caesar has control of that, but
- 5:38you know, you're, you're the way that you live your life,
- 5:41etcetera, etcetera. That's something that is between
- 5:45you and God. Caesar has no say in it.
- 5:47That's true. But, well, the reason I'm
- 5:50mentioning now is that there's the historical precedent for
- 5:53this, that getting your name on the money asserts authority.
- 5:58Well, indeed, Now I think that there's no doubt that I think
- 6:01that many people would see that. Certainly when you look at
- 6:05people of significance in authority, having the image of
- 6:09person is one thing, but my goodness, the very thought of
- 6:13wandering around in commerce, retail and many other places
- 6:18that you have Donald Trump wandering around in your wallet,
- 6:22there's a thought.
