- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Real Talk with Mike D. All right. Welcome
- 0:06Speaker 1: back to Real Talk with Mike D. I am the one,
- 0:09Speaker 1: the only, and the original Mike D. Thank you for
- 0:14Speaker 1: being here. Thank you for listening. And as always, I
- 0:17Speaker 1: appreciate you. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, night owls, insomniacs, rockers, metalheads,
- 0:24Speaker 1: and everybody who's supposed to be asleep right now, welcome
- 0:28Speaker 1: to the madness. This is Real Talk with Mike D.
- 0:31Speaker 1: And tonight, we're not whispering. We're not behaving. We're not
- 0:35Speaker 1: pretending to be civilized. We're turning the freaking volume up.
- 0:39Speaker 1: You know, it's late. The lights are low. The road
- 0:42Speaker 1: is asleep. And somewhere out there, somebody's sitting in their
- 0:45Speaker 1: garage playing guitar through an amplifier that's entirely too loud.
- 0:50Speaker 1: And you know what? I respect that. Because tonight, we're
- 0:54Speaker 1: talking about something near and dear to my heart. We're
- 0:57Speaker 1: talking about rock and roll. Talking about heavy metal, guitars,
- 1:01Speaker 1: guitar players, concerts, late night, bad decisions, good memories, and
- 1:06Speaker 1: that beautiful, beautiful fantasy. Living the rock star lifestyle. So
- 1:13Speaker 1: turn the lights down, grab a drink, put your headphones on,
- 1:15Speaker 1: and if somebody in the next room complains about the volume,
- 1:19Speaker 1: tell them Mike D said shut the hell up. Now,
- 1:24Speaker 1: who out there listens to late night radio? I do.
- 1:29Speaker 1: And you know what I love about late night radio?
- 1:31Speaker 1: There's something different about it. During the day, everybody's busy.
- 1:36Speaker 1: People are working, they're driving, they're dealing with traffic, they're
- 1:39Speaker 1: answering emails, they're pretending they enjoy meetings. But late at night,
- 1:45Speaker 1: that's different. Late at night, the bullshit gets quiet. And
- 1:50Speaker 1: that's when people start thinking. That's when people start remembering.
- 1:54Speaker 1: That's when people put their headphones on, they turn their
- 1:57Speaker 1: lights down, listen to music and that's where rock and
- 2:01Speaker 1: roll belongs in the dark rock and roll is loud
- 2:05Speaker 1: it's dirty it's raw it's unfiltered and maybe a little
- 2:08Speaker 1: bit dangerous and maybe just maybe a little bit irresponsible
- 2:15Speaker 1: and that's why i love it rock and roll never
- 2:19Speaker 1: asked for permission and never said excuse me would it
- 2:23Speaker 1: be okay if i turned up the amplifier no Rock
- 2:27Speaker 1: and roll walked into the room, plugged in, and blew
- 2:29Speaker 1: the freaking doors off. That's the attitude, and that's what
- 2:33Speaker 1: I love. Because life spends a lot of time telling
- 2:37Speaker 1: us what we're supposed to do. Be responsible, be professional,
- 2:41Speaker 1: act your age, calm down. You know what I say
- 2:44Speaker 1: to that? Screw that. You can be responsible and still
- 2:49Speaker 1: have a wild side. You can pay your bills, go
- 2:52Speaker 1: to work, take care of your family, and still crank
- 2:55Speaker 1: up some heavy metal when nobody's looking. And if somebody
- 2:58Speaker 1: catches you, tell them, that's right, I'm listening to metal.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Speaking of metal, I have a surprise for all of
- 3:08Speaker 1: you tonight. I'm going to play you a 20-second snippet
- 3:12Speaker 1: of a song that I recorded. So for your listening pleasure, enjoy.
- 3:35Speaker 1: All right, how about that? Was that badass? That was
- 3:39Speaker 1: an original piece by yours truly, Mike B. Now, because
- 3:44Speaker 1: I'm a guitar player, I can say this. Maybe some
- 3:49Speaker 1: of you listening are guitar players as well. And you
- 3:53Speaker 1: know this is true. We're weird. We're fucking weird. And
- 3:58Speaker 1: I say that with love. You ever notice how a
- 4:02Speaker 1: guitar player can turn literally anything into a guitar conversation?
- 4:07Speaker 1: You might be sitting or having dinner and someone says,
- 4:10Speaker 1: nice weather today. And you as a guitar player, you're like, yeah.
- 4:17Speaker 1: You know what that reminds me of? The tone on
- 4:19Speaker 1: my Les Paul. What the hell? What the hell is that?
- 4:25Speaker 1: Where did that come from? Nobody says that. Now, there's
- 4:34Speaker 1: a moment that every guitar player knows. You plug your
- 4:40Speaker 1: guitar in, you hit that first chord, and the amplifier
- 4:45Speaker 1: comes alive. You hit that chord again, and you think,
- 4:49Speaker 1: oh yeah. Then you turn up a little, a little
- 4:54Speaker 1: bit more, and a little bit more, And eventually somebody
- 4:59Speaker 1: from the other side of the house says, turn that
- 5:01Speaker 1: shit down. And that's exactly when you know you've reached
- 5:07Speaker 1: the correct volume. Now, off to my favorite part. The
- 5:15Speaker 1: rock star dream. Who wanted to be a rock star?
- 5:22Speaker 1: I did. Still do. Now don't bullshit me. At some point,
- 5:30Speaker 1: you've imagined it. You walk onto the stage. The lights
- 5:34Speaker 1: go black. The crowd starts screaming. Then boom! The lights hit.
- 5:40Speaker 1: The guitar kicks in. The drums explode. And 20,000 people
- 5:44Speaker 1: start screaming your name. That gives me chills. How awesome
- 5:50Speaker 1: is that? 20,000 people start screaming your name. Okay. Maybe
- 5:58Speaker 1: I'm getting a little bit carried away. But let me
- 6:01Speaker 1: have my fantasy. So you finish the show. You walk backstage.
- 6:06Speaker 1: There's a dressing room. There's catering. There's drinks. And there's
- 6:11Speaker 1: your guitar sitting in a corner. And somebody says, Mike,
- 6:15Speaker 1: the car is waiting. You walk outside and it's a
- 6:18Speaker 1: freaking limousine. You get in. You start driving. The city
- 6:27Speaker 1: lights are going by. You lean back and think, holy shit,
- 6:32Speaker 1: this is the dream. I am living the dream. Well,
- 6:40Speaker 1: ladies and gentlemen, that is going to do it for
- 6:43Speaker 1: this podcast. Before I go, I want to leave you
- 6:45Speaker 1: with this. How many of you out there wanted to
- 6:50Speaker 1: be a rock star, still want to be a rock star?
- 6:55Speaker 1: How many of you play guitar or play an instrument? Drums, bass?
- 7:00Speaker 1: Or maybe you're a singer. Or maybe you've had that
- 7:04Speaker 1: rock star fantasy. Never let your dreams subside. I still
- 7:12Speaker 1: dream of being a rock star. Every day. Alright. Please
- 7:23Speaker 1: be the reason someone smiles. Be kind to each other.
- 7:30Speaker 1: And do me one favor. Never stop listening to metal!
