- 13:05Think twice before you message state customer service accounts are
- 13:09targeting social media users. By Jane Recline, April twenty third,
- 13:14twenty twenty five. The Better Business Bureau is reminding consumers
- 13:18to use extra caution when publicly posting on social media
- 13:22to resolve an issue with a business with imposter scams
- 13:25on the rise. Frosters are creating state customer support accounts,
- 13:30including for BBB. The target users seeking business resolutions. How
- 13:35the scam works. You log onto your social media account
- 13:38to post about an issue with a business's product or service.
- 13:41Hoping for a quick resolution, You tag the business and
- 13:44a wait a response. In a few minutes, you notice
- 13:47a reply to your posts from an account that appears
- 13:49to be for the business's customer support team. You may
- 13:53even notice multiple responses from several different customer support accounts,
- 13:57each claiming they can help you resolve the issue if
- 14:00you direct message or DM them with all the details,
- 14:03including your personal information like your phone number. In reality,
- 14:07the customer support account is fake. If you message one
- 14:11of these accounts instead of resolving the issue with the
- 14:13business as you anticipated, you may end up with a
- 14:16bigger headache after handing over your personal or financial information
- 14:19to a scammer. How to avoid customer support imposter scams.
- 14:24Look at the customer supports account profile. Most imposter accounts
- 14:28were recently created to attempt to fool customers. Check to
- 14:32see how well the account has been active and how
- 14:34many friends or followers it has. Real customer support accounts
- 14:38typically have a long history and have many followers. Remember
- 14:43verification is now a paid service, so thoroughly inspect the
- 14:46account before you act. Telltale signs of a fake account
- 14:50include selling or grammar errors, stock image profile pictures, and
- 14:54social media handles that look illegitimate. Use caution if you
- 14:59receive multiple vers responses. If you reach out to a
- 15:01business publicly on social media and receive several responses from
- 15:05multiple Quote Customer Service accounts, take that as a major
- 15:09red flag. Do your due diligence and check whether the
- 15:12business's real customer service account responded. If the account's look fake,
- 15:17ignore them. Don't fall for fake account recovery services. If
- 15:22the issue but you're looking to resolve with a business
- 15:25involves recovering a log in or account, watch out for
- 15:28fake account recovery services responding to your post. You should
- 15:32never have to pay to recover your accounts. Never provide
- 15:36personal or financial information to a stranger. If an account
- 15:39your messaging starts asking for your personal or financial information
- 15:43that has nothing to do with the issue at hand,
- 15:46stop communication with them. Don't click any links that are
- 15:49sent to you. If the Quote Customer Support agent sends
- 15:53you a link to a website to resolve your issue,
- 15:56think twice before clicking. Scammers are easily able to make
- 16:00fake websites or URLs that look legitimate that are actually
- 16:04created to steal your information or install malware on your device.
- 16:08Refrain from downloading attachments to when in doubt, stop communication
- 16:13and contact customer service on your own. If you're questioning
- 16:17who you're messaging on social media, your best bet is
- 16:20to go to the business's real website and find our
- 16:23customer support contact information there. Even if social media is
- 16:27your preferred method of communication, calling the business may be
- 16:31the safer route. If you've seen or experienced the scam,
- 16:35help one others by reporting it to the BBB Scam

- 21:30celebrates first anniversary by Jane reed Klein. From social worker
- 21:35to restaurant tour Jennifer Burton followed her dream and opened
- 21:39her restaurant, The Hungry Heifer in Maxville in April of
- 21:43twenty twenty four. One year later, Burton looks back on
- 21:47our first year of business and all it took to
- 21:50get here. The Hungry Heifer offers a simple menu and
- 21:53daily specials. Located behind the Maxville Community Center, the restaurant
- 21:58is open for lunch and dinner Wednesday through Friday. Quote
- 22:01it's off the beaten paths, said Burton's father, Gary Carney,
- 22:04but we're doing okay. End of quote. Quote traffic has
- 22:08exceeded expectations, Burton said, I expected it to be slow.
- 22:12There is nothing to come to Mackville for, like groceries
- 22:16or doctor's offices. Many are coming specifically for us. I
- 22:20banked on downtime to take care of paperwork, but that
- 22:23doesn't often happen. End of quote. Burton said there is
- 22:26no pattern yet to the traffic at the restaurant, and
- 22:28it is hard to anticipate how much food is needed.
- 22:32Burton admitted that between the time she put into the
- 22:34project into the Worse Than twenty twenty one until now,
- 22:37there were times when she wanted to throw in the
- 22:39towel quote, but I'm glad I didn't, she said. Quote
- 22:43It's a lot of work, but very rewarding, and we
- 22:45are surviving. End of quote. Burton added. Burton began working
- 22:49toward her dream of the Hungry Heifer by preparing and
- 22:52delivering meals to homebound residents in the Mackville community. Quote.
- 22:56I'm a social worker by trade, Burton said. I worked
- 22:59for seat for almost nine years in Nelson and Mercer Counties.
- 23:03It got the best of me. It was draining. I
- 23:05missed almost the first two years of my oldest son's life.
- 23:08I missed all of his milestone she added. I decided
- 23:12to leave and I went to a program that helps
- 23:14adults with disabilities, and I was there for five years.
- 23:17End of quote. Burton said she loved helping people as
- 23:20a social work, but then COVID changed everything. Quote. I
- 23:25was having to work from home, which was good, but
- 23:27it was bad because I wasn't engaging with the participants,
- 23:29she explained. And during that time I was working at home,
- 23:33you had the cooking aspect, and the days that I
- 23:35was actually working really hard. I forgot to lay something
- 23:38out to fall for dinner. Oh well, I have to
- 23:40go grab something, but there is no place to go
- 23:43grab anything without getting in your car and driving at
- 23:46least twenty minutes or more to go get something to eat.
- 23:49With that, I started thinking about all the shut ins
- 23:52we have around. I thought, why not make food and
- 23:54take to them? So my mom, my aunt, and myself
- 23:56started making meals. We would make about four meals a
- 23:59week that we could take to them. From there, I
- 24:03decided I could do this. I could do this for
- 24:05money and not just spending all my money feeding everybody.
- 24:08So my husband and I started talking about it. I
- 24:10made up a business plan, made up a menu, and
- 24:13I thought, I will just continue working until something worked out,
- 24:16but in the meantime, I will continue to plan. I
- 24:19finally decided it's time, so I quit my public jobs.
- 24:22I was focusing on building the plan and finding the
- 24:25resources to do it. End of quote. Burton got a
- 24:28huge boost when the Maxville Community Development Board asked if
- 24:31she would consider cooking for the Maxville Boosters. Quote. I said,
- 24:36of course, that will help me get my name out,
- 24:38Burton said. But then the center closed again for COVID.
- 24:41People in the community asked when we were going to
- 24:43open again, and if I would consider doing a carry out. Well,
- 24:47of course, that helps me even more to get my
- 24:49name out for a restaurant. So I started doing carryout,
- 24:52just doing one day a week end of quote. Burton
- 24:56purchased land and hired a contractor to break around and
- 24:59begin building in the summer of twenty twenty two, with
- 25:02plans to open that summer. Changing health and building codes
- 25:05delayed the project again and again Burton was finally able
- 25:09to open her dream in April of twenty twenty four,
- 25:12two years after breaking ground. Quote. I have been very
- 25:16blessed with this. God has provided for me to be
- 25:19able to do it and still pay all my bills,
- 25:21she said. I get help from family, aunts, niece's cousins,
- 25:24and the support from the community has been astronomical. I
- 25:28expected a little support, but I never expected to have
- 25:31as much support as I have had. All my regulars
- 25:34mean so much. It gives you joy to see somebody
- 25:37enjoy something you've made for them. End of quote. Burton
- 25:40added The simple joys of a clover plant by Jane Recline,
- 25:46April twenty third, twenty twenty five. When I was growing up,
- 25:50and the spread of clover leaves and their white flowers
- 25:53across our lawn announced that spring had actually arrived. We
- 25:57loved to roll in it, smiff it, and make necklaces
- 25:59and bad from the flowers with their long stems. When
- 26:02Easter arrived, my mother would hide colored eggs in the
- 26:05clover for our neighborhood Easter account and how terrible it
- 26:09was for us kids when our dad would come alone
- 26:11with the lawnmower and level it. All Those little spiked
- 26:14flowers are set on three leaves usually and to find
- 26:18four horses considered lucky. The Guinness Book of Records tells
- 26:22us of fifty six tiny leavestm on one stem in
- 26:25two thousand and nine. Clover is often cultivated for fodder
- 26:29for livestock, and as it is one of the main
- 26:31nectar sources for honeybees, those farmers often rely on nearby
- 26:36beekeepers for pollination of their other crops. I suppose that
- 26:41from Saint Patrick using the three leaves on one stem
- 26:44to symbolize the trinity, and the peaceful gens of contented
- 26:47cows munching on it in field gave the expression quote
- 26:51living the life of clover. So their beauty, aroma symbolism,
- 26:56and source of luck, fodder and honey all make those
- 26:59little quote insignificant stream plants actually quite special. And one
- 27:07correction on that that was not by Jane Recline, that
- 27:11was by Sister Joel Goobler from Breath of Ecology Centerdel.
- 27:18Eighty nine Ensuring water quality by streamlining state and federal
- 27:22regulation by Kim King's state representative. Each legislative session, a
- 27:27few bills draw significant public and media attention. One such
- 27:31bill was this year was a SENEBIL eighty nine, which
- 27:34was motivated by a desire to streamline state and federal
- 27:37water protection regulations to make them easier to follow, but
- 27:41initially raise concern that it would create loopholes that endangered
- 27:45protections for Kentucky's groundwater. This concludes excerpts from recent editions
