Latest / Time with God with John North / The Word - Meeting Jesus In John 1 Pt. 5
Transcript
- 0:05Speaker 1: Good morning. All this week we've been looking at the
- 0:09Speaker 1: apostle John's introduction of Jesus Christ.
- 0:14Speaker 1: At the very beginning of his gospel in the New Testament,
- 0:19Speaker 1: in fact, all 4 days so far this week we've
- 0:23Speaker 1: just been in verse one of John's introduction. We've seen
- 0:27Speaker 1: so much as we meet Jesus in a new way,
- 0:31Speaker 1: looking at what John says about Him. In John 1,
- 0:35Speaker 1: John said, in the beginning.
- 0:37Speaker 1: That is the beginning of all things was the Word
- 0:41Speaker 1: talking about Jesus as God's revelation of Himself, His expression
- 0:46Speaker 1: of Himself to us, and the Word was with God,
- 0:51Speaker 1: that amazing deep relationship within the Trinity of God the
- 0:55Speaker 1: Son to God the Father and God the Holy Spirit.
- 0:59Speaker 1: That intimacy of relationship that he then invites us into
- 1:04Speaker 1: as well, and he goes on to say the word
- 1:08Speaker 1: was God and what does that mean for us as
- 1:12Speaker 1: we think about our relationship with Jesus? We want to
- 1:16Speaker 1: be so close to Him, intimate in our relationship with Him,
- 1:20Speaker 1: and yet not forget that He is God.
- 1:23Speaker 1: The God of the universe. Well, verse two kind of
- 1:28Speaker 1: repeats it a little bit. He was in the beginning
- 1:31Speaker 1: with God, and then the next line says all things
- 1:36Speaker 1: were made through Him, and without Him was not anything
- 1:42Speaker 1: made that was made. That is everything that's been made
- 1:46Speaker 1: which is everything God created.
- 1:48Speaker 1: All things were made through Jesus. God the Father said,
- 1:53Speaker 1: this is what I want to see. God the Son,
- 1:57Speaker 1: Jesus made it happen.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Right, all things were made through him. So what does
- 2:05Speaker 1: this mean to me? Well, it means that Jesus as
- 2:11Speaker 1: God can do whatever he says he will do. It
- 2:16Speaker 1: means that we can trust Him because he is able
- 2:20Speaker 1: to do what he promises.
- 2:23Speaker 1: In the experience of Job in the Old Testament, who
- 2:26Speaker 1: went through so much suffering and ended up questioning God
- 2:30Speaker 1: over and over and saying, you're not right to allow
- 2:33Speaker 1: this in my life. If we were to have a debate,
- 2:36Speaker 1: I would win the debate. You weren't right to do this.
- 2:39Speaker 1: And God answers Job in Job chapter 38, and says,
- 2:44Speaker 1: Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?
- 2:48Speaker 1: Dress for action like a man, and I
- 2:50Speaker 1: Question you and you make it known to me. Where
- 2:54Speaker 1: were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?
- 2:58Speaker 1: Tell me if you have understanding. Who determined its measurements.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Surely you know, or who stretched the line upon it?
- 3:07Speaker 1: On what were its bases sunk, or who laid its
- 3:10Speaker 1: cornerstone when the morning stars sang together and all the
- 3:14Speaker 1: sons of God shouted for joy.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Or who shut in the sea with doors when it
- 3:21Speaker 1: burst out from the womb when I made clouds its
- 3:24Speaker 1: garment and thick darkness its swaddling band.
- 3:28Speaker 1: And prescribed limits for it, right? Created the law of
- 3:32Speaker 1: gravity and the way waves work. Prescribed limits for it
- 3:36Speaker 1: and set bars and doors and said, thus far you
- 3:39Speaker 1: shall come and no further, and here shall your proud
- 3:42Speaker 1: waves be stayed. And he goes on for more than
- 3:46Speaker 1: a chapter of this, that's just the beginning of the chapter,
- 3:50Speaker 1: and Job ends up saying, I was so foolish.
- 3:54Speaker 1: I should have trusted you from the beginning. You know
- 3:58Speaker 1: so much more than me. You are so far beyond me.
- 4:01Speaker 1: In Jeremiah 32:27, God says, Behold, I am the Lord,
- 4:07Speaker 1: the God of all flesh. Is anything too hard for me?
- 4:13Speaker 1: In Mark chapter 9, verse 22, someone desperately asks Jesus
- 4:18Speaker 1: to help him with his Son.
- 4:20Speaker 1: He says, If you can do anything, Jesus, have compassion
- 4:24Speaker 1: on us and help us. And Jesus said to him,
- 4:28Speaker 1: If you can, all things are possible for one who believes.
- 4:33Speaker 1: And immediately the father of the child cried out and said,
- 4:37Speaker 1: I believe, help my unbelief. Well, this is us also, right?
- 4:42Speaker 1: And we need to recognise all things were made through Jesus,
- 4:47Speaker 1: and when you come to Jesus with issues in your life,
- 4:50Speaker 1: you need to come with confidence, trusting Him. Sometimes he
- 4:55Speaker 1: doesn't do things the way you expected, just as Job.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Experienced, but you can trust him, and at the end
- 5:01Speaker 1: of the book of Job, Job really saw what his
- 5:05Speaker 1: plan had been, and he knew he was right to
- 5:08Speaker 1: trust him. You can have that confidence too. I'm John North.
