Transcript
- 0:16Speaker 1: Can I tell you that I just recorded five minute
- 0:19Speaker 1: Friday and then I want you go listen to the
- 0:21Speaker 1: audio and realized that I recorded five minute Friday with
- 0:25Speaker 1: my microphone muted.
- 0:27Speaker 2: So we're back emlya Badi.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Here. You are listening to five minute Friday on Hurdle,
- 0:34Speaker 1: or maybe, if you're lucky, you're watching five minute Friday
- 0:37Speaker 1: on YouTube. If you are doing the former, click on
- 0:42Speaker 1: over to the show notes, subscribe to the YouTube. I
- 0:45Speaker 1: love you wherever you get Hurdle, but we're just trying
- 0:48Speaker 1: to grow that audience a little bit, so tap tap,
- 0:51Speaker 1: tap on over to the show notes. I am feeling
- 0:54Speaker 1: extremely sporadic, as if that no audio in the first
- 0:58Speaker 1: recording is any indication. I am leaving for Australia on Monday,
- 1:04Speaker 1: and I am going.
- 1:06Speaker 2: For over a month. To be I'm going for over
- 1:09Speaker 2: a month.
- 1:10Speaker 1: I'm going to be away from home for over a month,
- 1:12Speaker 1: and I am a whole bunch of things. I am excited,
- 1:16Speaker 1: I am nervous. I am also very cognizant that I
- 1:20Speaker 1: am running a marathon in just over a week and
- 1:23Speaker 1: with that comes all of the phantom pains.
- 1:25Speaker 2: My knee yesterday was revolting.
- 1:27Speaker 1: I have never had knee pain in any of my running,
- 1:31Speaker 1: so we're just taking things one day at a time.
- 1:35Speaker 1: I can say that yesterday the knee bugged me. This morning,
- 1:38Speaker 1: I woke up, I went out, I did my run.
- 1:41Speaker 1: It felt fine. So we're just in this stage. This
- 1:45Speaker 1: is just how it is now, and I recognize that
- 1:48Speaker 1: I am not my thoughts on that note. Something I
- 1:51Speaker 1: want to talk about today is that often times motivation
- 1:56Speaker 1: follows action. And I bring that up because I have
- 2:00Speaker 1: been getting so many messages recently asking me about how
- 2:06Speaker 1: I show up regularly, especially with the travel schedule. I
- 2:10Speaker 1: am in New York, I am in Portland, I am
- 2:12Speaker 1: in Seattle, I am in Vancouver, I am all over
- 2:15Speaker 1: the place, and I still have made it such a
- 2:18Speaker 1: priority because I know how good I feel when the
- 2:21Speaker 1: effort is done to move my body and stick to
- 2:25Speaker 1: the training plan for this upcoming Sydney marathon. And each
- 2:30Speaker 1: and every time, I say two things. The first thing
- 2:34Speaker 1: is that often again, motivation follows action.
- 2:37Speaker 2: So if you can have.
- 2:39Speaker 1: The diligence to be able to put on your shoes
- 2:43Speaker 1: and get out the door, I know.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Just sim says this all the time.
- 2:46Speaker 1: She was on the podcast last week and I'll also
- 2:48Speaker 1: link that episode in the show notes.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Starting is the hardest part. Check done. Once you start,
- 2:56Speaker 2: ninety nine percent of the time, you're.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Gonna stick with whatever you have got up and gotten
- 3:01Speaker 1: out to do. So motivation follows action. I don't wake
- 3:05Speaker 1: up every single day and want to go for a run.
- 3:07Speaker 1: I don't wake up every single day and want to
- 3:09Speaker 1: go to the gym. I had the best time. I
- 3:12Speaker 1: went to the Olivia Dean concert solo on I think
- 3:15Speaker 1: it was Tuesday earlier this week. I bought a ticket
- 3:18Speaker 1: at the twenty fourth hour, literally like fourteen minutes before
- 3:22Speaker 1: the concert started, and I knew going to bed around
- 3:25Speaker 1: midnight that night that you know what I wasn't going
- 3:27Speaker 1: to want to do in the morning, go to the gym.
- 3:30Speaker 2: But I did myself two favors. One.
- 3:33Speaker 1: I set my alarm for seven forty five, which is
- 3:35Speaker 1: dramatically later than I typically naturally wake up in the
- 3:39Speaker 1: five thirty am area. Although I did roll over at
- 3:43Speaker 1: five thirty am, I put on my imask, I went
- 3:46Speaker 1: back to sleep until seven forty five. I was elated
- 3:48Speaker 1: to get the extra shut eye, and then I just
- 3:52Speaker 1: did the things that I usually do before I go
- 3:54Speaker 1: to the gym because I know that motivation follows action.
- 3:58Speaker 1: The second thing that I say each and every time
- 4:01Speaker 1: is that consistency is.
- 4:03Speaker 2: More important than perfection.
- 4:06Speaker 1: So was that gym session on Tuesday morning, after being
- 4:10Speaker 1: out until almost midnight, the best gym session of my life?
- 4:13Speaker 2: Absolutely not?
- 4:15Speaker 1: But I went and I did it, and I felt
- 4:17Speaker 1: better because I showed up for myself. So I'll say
- 4:21Speaker 1: it again two things. One motivation follows action, and two
- 4:27Speaker 1: consistency is.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Better than perfection.
- 4:30Speaker 1: If you are working hard to be air quotes perfect
- 4:34Speaker 1: all of the time, I promise you that's going to
- 4:37Speaker 1: get in the way of you just showing up because
- 4:39Speaker 1: every day isn't a recipe for perception for perfection. It
- 4:45Speaker 1: isn't There are going to be things again the way
- 4:47Speaker 1: life happens and when life happens. Who am I overwhelmed
- 4:55Speaker 1: a little bit? Am I anxious?
- 4:56Speaker 2: For sure?
- 4:57Speaker 1: Am I going to handle all of it? Can I
- 4:59Speaker 1: be those and still show up and pack for my
- 5:02Speaker 1: trip and get myself to the other side of the world.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Yes. My listener question for you this week, I want
- 5:11Speaker 2: to know what goals.
- 5:11Speaker 1: You're going after, What is it that you are doing,
- 5:14Speaker 1: What actions are you take?
- 5:15Speaker 2: Maybe when the motivation isn't there. What are you shown
- 5:19Speaker 2: up for?
- 5:20Speaker 1: I want to know, so comment if you're here on
- 5:21Speaker 1: YouTube comment and the YouTube comments below, or you can
- 5:25Speaker 1: also comment on Spotify. I read those two and you
- 5:28Speaker 1: can always hit me up over in the DMS. It's
- 5:31Speaker 1: over at Hurdle Podcast and I am over email at
- 5:34Speaker 1: Hello at Hurdle dot us. And now I'm going to
- 5:40Speaker 1: answer a listener question. I am pulling it up in
- 5:44Speaker 1: my flagged emails. Here we have a question on low buns,
- 5:50Speaker 1: and the low bun question comes here we go from Shay.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Shay wants to know, Hey, Emily, you rock the low
- 5:57Speaker 1: bun like no one I've ever seen do it before?
- 6:00Speaker 1: Or how you're so sweet? The summers in New York
- 6:04Speaker 1: are so no joke, and a low bun is such
- 6:05Speaker 1: a simple and very sheet hair style to stay cool
- 6:07Speaker 1: and look great. I've tried, and I just can't make
- 6:10Speaker 1: it look as good as yours. Would love to hear
- 6:12Speaker 1: about your technique and the products you use. Love the
- 6:14Speaker 1: show and all that you do. Thank you for everything.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Heart emoji Shay say you're so kind. My low bun
- 6:22Speaker 1: strategy isn't that earth shattering? And the only thing that
- 6:25Speaker 1: is a must for my low bun is a product
- 6:29Speaker 1: called TG bed Head hair Stick.
- 6:32Speaker 2: It's like a wax stick. Again, it's called TG.
- 6:35Speaker 1: I'll link it in the show notes Tigi and I
- 6:38Speaker 1: literally just put my hair and do a middle part
- 6:41Speaker 1: with a comb, put my hair in a low bun
- 6:44Speaker 1: at the nape of my neck, and then I use
- 6:46Speaker 1: that stick and a comb and I comb away the flyaways.
- 6:49Speaker 1: I didn't start using that wax stick until within the
- 6:53Speaker 1: last year or two, and it truly is a game changer.
- 6:57Speaker 1: The other thing I will note about if you're putting
- 6:59Speaker 1: your hair in a low bun, it should not be
- 7:01Speaker 1: wet when you do this. So maybe you're going to
- 7:03Speaker 1: do a light workout, you're just going to do a
- 7:05Speaker 1: dry shampoo thing. If your hair is still a little
- 7:08Speaker 1: bit wet, either from sweat or just it's wet, make
- 7:12Speaker 1: sure you dry it or hit it with a blow dryer.
- 7:15Speaker 1: That was advice that my hairstylist gave me because it
- 7:19Speaker 1: is a style that I do very often. A couple
- 7:22Speaker 1: of years ago, we were seeing a bunch of breakage
- 7:24Speaker 1: around where I would put my hair in the little
- 7:26Speaker 1: button and she told me that if the hair is dry,
- 7:29Speaker 1: it is less likely to experience undergo have that freakage.
- 7:38Speaker 1: So yeah, TG BedHead, hairstick, a little bit of hairspray.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Call it today.
- 7:43Speaker 1: I also am doing like at least two hair ties
- 7:45Speaker 1: around the button to get all the flyaways out of there.
- 7:48Speaker 2: But to each her own hope.
- 7:51Speaker 1: This is helpful and I want to answer so many
- 7:53Speaker 1: more of your listener questions. I gave you all of
- 7:55Speaker 1: that information again. The email to send them in is
- 7:58Speaker 1: Hello at Hurdle Us. You can also comment on Spotify,
- 8:01Speaker 1: comment on YouTube, hit me up on socials, get at me. Okay,
- 8:05Speaker 1: this is the last time you're gonna see me in
- 8:07Speaker 1: this space for a while. If you're watching on YouTube,
- 8:10Speaker 1: so thank you. I'm gonna take it on the road.
