- 1:01I'm your host, Lauren Meissner, the founder of the Australian
- 1:05youth digital media brand Centennial World.
- 1:08Welcome back to Mini Scroll, everyone.
- 1:11OK, I went to the coolest event this morning.
- 1:14I need to talk about it. It's not often that I talk about
- 1:16brand events that I've gone to, but this one was so special.
- 1:19So it was for Lush and they took us to the Lush factory in Sydney
- 1:24and we got to like make our own Lush products and see how
- 1:27they're made. And it was actually like the
- 1:29most fun. I got to make my own bath bomb.
- 1:32We got to make soap. I got to like decal some soap
- 1:35and it was really cool. Like I, I guess I've just never
- 1:37thought about how Lush products are made.
- 1:40I know that they say that they're handmade, but I didn't
- 1:42realize like how handmade. Like we got to meet everyone who
- 1:46was working on the products in all the different areas.
- 1:49It was so cool. It was really amazing to see how
- 1:52almost it feels almost like still very grass roots.
- 1:55The brand was behind the scenes. It was so cool.
- 1:58Oh, we also got to make our own face masks, you know, our fresh
- 2:02section. So we got to make our own like
- 2:03fresh face masks. And it was so much more
- 2:06impactful to see like how the sausage is made, you know, how
- 2:10the products are made and to really like understand the
- 2:13behind the scenes of the brand and that they truly like
- 2:15practice what they preach. That was like so much more
- 2:18impactful for me than if it was, I don't know, like a breakfast
- 2:22or some type of like party or something that we often do with
- 2:25brands. It was such a cool experience.
- 2:27I had a really good time. So that's what I did before this
- 2:30all right, before I get into it, Please remember to rate review

- 2:35OK, the first story that I have for you guys today is Chapel
- 2:37round is facing mixed reactions after confronting paparazzi.
- 2:41So a video of Chapel is going viral right now.
- 2:44In it, she's surrounded by paparazzi, but instead of posing
- 2:48for them, she starts filming them.
- 2:50In the video, Chapel is facing the camera and showing what
- 2:52seemed to be paparazzi behind her.
- 2:54And you can hear her saying this is what it's like to be
- 2:57disregarded as a human. She also points out a specific
- 3:00person saying this person I've asked several times to go away
- 3:03and they will not and then she goes on to ask them to stop
- 3:06following her. Now, like I said, the reaction
- 3:08has been mixed. Unsurprising with the Internet,
- 3:11so many people are sympathetic to her.
- 3:13This is obviously an issue that she's been vocal about across
- 3:16her career. However, others on social media
- 3:19are frustrated by her reaction. So for instance 1 user made the
- 3:22claim that quote celebrities have gotten lamer.
- 3:25I don't know if I just grew up or if celebrities got lamer and
- 3:28started acting like normal people larping as celebrities.
- 3:31They technically have the wealth and status but they have
- 3:33absolutely no aura. Celebrities used to be a lot
- 3:36cooler. Everything they do now is so
- 3:38unbearably forced and cringe. You can tell they go into every
- 3:41interview or event with the mindset that it will go viral on
- 3:44social media. They're actively trying to farm
- 3:47iconic pop culture moments. So I guess they think that this
- 3:49was Chapel trying to farm an iconic pop culture moment.
- 3:53It's all impossible to watch without cringing because it's so
- 3:56glaringly unnatural. It literally feels like we don't
- 3:59have any new celebrities that are naturally cool.
- 4:01None of them have aura. They all feel like glorified tik
- 4:04tokers LMAO. And this particular tweet.
- 4:06The reason why I'm reading it is because it has over 1.2 million
- 4:09views. That is a sweeping statement if
- 4:11I've ever heard one. OG YouTube Tyler Oakley shared a
- 4:15tweet backing Chapel he wrote. Personally, I like Chapel Roan
- 4:18establishing her boundaries and not just putting up with those
- 4:20who don't adhere to them. She already changed how
- 4:23photographers treat celebrities on red carpets.
- 4:25Maybe this will change how paparazzi treat celebrities
- 4:28simply existing in public. OK, so I think there's a couple
- 4:32things here. First of all, when people say
- 4:35all like celebrities back in the day, they used to be so much
- 4:38more appreciative of this attention and paparazzi and
- 4:42stuff like that. First of all, I absolutely
- 4:45disagree with that. There were tabloids constantly
- 4:49that showed photos of celebrities where they were
- 4:51like, smashing paparazzi's cars and yelling at them and begging
- 4:56them to leave them alone. I think we feel like it's
- 4:59happening more now because when one instance like this happens,
- 5:03it doesn't just get printed in the tabloids.
- 5:04It's viral across social media for days and days and days.
- 5:07So I feel like that's part of it.
- 5:09We also usually get footage of the actual, like, exact
- 5:12interaction, which back in the day we didn't.
- 5:14We would get like one photo and then the retelling of that
- 5:16situation, you know, from the tabloid.
- 5:18Another element here is that celebrities don't just have the
- 5:22pressure of paparazzi surveillance now, but they also
- 5:25have the pressure of social media surveillance.
- 5:26So I understand why modern day celebrities feel more and more
- 5:29out of control in terms of their ability to like lead any type of
- 5:34like normal personal life because they probably feel so
- 5:38constantly surveilled, like they can't go do anything because if
- 5:40it's not a paparazzi filming them, it's a random person
- 5:43that's going to go put it on TikTok.
- 5:44And then everyone's going to take it out of context and
- 5:47they're going to go viral for something that they may or may
- 5:49not have even done. Plus, back in the day, there
- 5:51were some really horrible things that happened with paparazzi and
- 5:55celebrities being driven off roads, sometimes getting really
- 5:58injured by trying to escape paparazzi, occasionally getting
- 6:01killed trying to escape paparazzi.
- 6:03Like there were some horrific things that were happening in
- 6:05like the late 90s, early 2000s. So the sentiment that
- 6:10celebrities now are just like, not as cool and they just like,
- 6:12can't hack it the way that like OG celebrities back in the day
- 6:15could is so misguided. I think it's totally untrue.
- 6:20And what Tyler Oakley wrote is true.
- 6:23So many celebrities have come out and said that because Chapel
- 6:26started standing up for herself against the photographers on red
- 6:29carpets that the photographers treat them differently now.
- 6:32So I agree with him that, you know, she did make headway there
- 6:36and I don't know, maybe this is the next iteration of that.
- 6:39But I do think unfortunately, to make that change, like Chapel
- 6:42has to become the spectacle, which of course comes with like
- 6:46so much backlash, so much discourse, so much opinion that
- 6:50is probably so challenging to manage.
- 6:51So I also understand why she likes to retreat from the public
- 6:54eye and has a very complicated relationship with it.
- 6:58OK, the next right that I have for you guys today, if you guys
- 7:01are in our Discord, then you will have seen that I shared a
- 7:04very small insight, a very small tippet of how many comes to
- 7:09life. Yesterday I posted this in
- 7:11Discord of how many comes to life, how we pick the stories.
- 7:14And it was just messages between Annabelle and I and I basically
- 7:17wrote OK, Timothy Jesselyn jealousy girl backlash and Mera
- 7:21beauty caught using creators videos as ads unpaid.
- 7:24And then tomorrow I'll do the vegetables.
- 7:27And then Annabelle wrote that sentence is crazy heart.
- 7:30And so people in the discord were like, I'm very excited to
- 7:33see what you mean by tomorrow I'll do the vegetables.
- 7:36So we're talking about the vegetables, we're talking about
- 7:38the fruit and vegetable brain rot that is literally taking
- 7:41over everyone's For You page right now.
- 7:43If you haven't seen it, this is going to sound insane, but AI
- 7:47generated fruits and vegetables are dominating the For You page
- 7:51Now. The reason why they're
- 7:52dominating is because these videos have plot and drama.
- 7:56It's like watching mini soap operas on your phone on TikTok,
- 8:00but instead of humans or cartoons, it's AI generated
- 8:03fruits and vegetables playing out this plot and drama for you.
- 8:07So for example, some stories might start with a strawberry
- 8:10cheating on her banana husband and then having a baby out of
- 8:13the affair. Other stories show various
- 8:15fruits getting kicked out of their homes or even ending
- 8:18relationships because they can't stop farting so much.
- 8:21OK, like it's unhinged. There doesn't seem to be one
- 8:25single account posting these stories, which is also
- 8:28interesting. So it's unclear if it was like
- 8:31one account started posting it, they were going viral, and then
- 8:34others started adopting this or if it's like a strategy, like I
- 8:38imagine it could be like a media brand.
- 8:40Do you guys remember this was years ago when we all found out
- 8:43that this number of drama channels that were like cartoon
- 8:46and voiced that they were all owned by this media company
- 8:49based in Canada. And they've been producing these
- 8:52channels and getting like millions of views, some of the
- 8:54millions of subscribers. And people thought that there
- 8:57was like a single human behind them, but turns out it was
- 9:00actually just like a media conglomerate behind them.
- 9:02I feel like it could also be that that could be happening
- 9:05here. And part of that is because
- 9:06there are some key characters that come up again and again,
- 9:10like Water Molina, Pupita and Strawberrita.
- 9:14OK, so this style of content is very reminiscent of Italian
- 9:17brain rot, which took over the Internet last year.
- 9:20It's the genre of almost like surrealist memes.
- 9:23Like, that's probably the best way to describe it.
- 9:26And I think on one hand, people enjoy it because it's so
- 9:29absurdist. It's so surreal.
- 9:31And you're kind of like, what is happening here.
- 9:33Of course, you can't really look away.
- 9:34Aside from the initial shock value, I think they get popular
- 9:37partly because we like an escape and because it is so unrealistic
- 9:41and so removed from real life. It's escapism.
- 9:44But I also think because I know I say this all the time on Mini,
- 9:47but people like to feel in on the joke.
- 9:50These videos are getting millions of views, but they're
- 9:53also still like very niche and very new.
- 9:55And I think people like feeling like they are part of something
- 9:58that's like a niche in joke right now.
- 10:00And Speaking of people who like to be in on the joke, Tricia
- 10:02Paytas is commenting on like all of them.
- 10:05She'll be in the comments like, oh, this was a good one or one
- 10:08that she commented on yesterday. She wrote the pair was valid for
- 10:11that one, and it's the pair leaving a banana because she
- 10:14farts too much. So if anyone has any insight
- 10:16into who's creating these, please let me know.
- 10:19Let me know if my conspiracy theory about a media
- 10:21conglomerate opening a bunch of accounts and doing this, if
- 10:24that's accurate. OK.
- 10:25And the last story that I have for you guys today is Australian
- 10:28influencers Sam Guggenheimer, as in Sam Guggs and Bill Barker
- 10:32have apologized after posting a controversial TikTok video about
- 10:36finding a new flatmate. OK, so Sam's moving out of her
- 10:38house. She was making a video talking
- 10:40about how she's looking for someone to move into her room.
- 10:43And then Bill is in the background and this is what
- 10:45happened. Everything.
- 10:46You can even have a picture of me on on the wall that you need.
- 10:49You're still be a skinny girl that.
- 10:52No, you can have drawers. Lily's not living.
- 10:57With a fatty. Covered Bill What the.
- 11:02Fuck. That is so fucking true.
- 11:04That is so true. Though no it is not.
- 11:07So they got a ton of backlash for that.
- 11:09Obviously it's a very fat phobic thing to say.
- 11:12There were a lot of people who felt like Sam, even though she
- 11:15was saying like, oh, that's not true.
- 11:17And she obviously didn't seem to be supporting it in the moment.
- 11:20People thought that she was like smirking.
- 11:23People felt like, oh, maybe they talk like this in private to
- 11:25each other, whatever. And there are also theories that
- 11:27Sam posted this to make herself look better because she
- 11:31obviously reacted in shock and was saying, like, that's not
- 11:33true at all. And then he's like, please
- 11:36delete that. And she was like, no, I'm
- 11:37leaving it in. So then this escalated because
- 11:40they went on live together to address the backlash.
- 11:43And Sam basically said, you know, this is how we joke around
- 11:47together. But on the Internet, jokes and
- 11:48we make silly things all the time, and sometimes it's not
- 11:51appropriate to put it on the Internet.
- 11:52And I will admit, Bill asked me to delete it.
- 11:55I still thought it was funny. I didn't think it'd get taken
- 11:57out of the context. But again, I forget that the
- 11:59Internet doesn't know how to take a joke sometimes and it was
- 12:02purely an inside joke. If James Charleston say block me
- 12:05down fat. Yeah, it was just like a.
- 12:10After this disastrous live situation, the backlash kept
- 12:14escalating. And then Sam posted this.
- 12:17A few days ago, I shared a video that included a conversation
- 12:20which should have never happened and absolutely should never have
- 12:23been posted online. The language used in that moment
- 12:25was inappropriate and unacceptable.
- 12:27I want to make it clear that the comments made were never
- 12:30directed at any specific person or influencer.
- 12:33However, I understand that regardless of intent, what was
- 12:35said was offensive and hurtful. I take full responsibility for
- 12:39posting the video without properly reviewing it
- 12:41beforehand. That was a mistake and it does
- 12:43not excuse what was said. I should have exercised better
- 12:46judgment. I'm genuinely sorry to anyone
- 12:48who was hurt by my actions. I take accountability for this
- 12:50and will ensure to learn from it and do better moving forward.
- 12:53Now near the end of the video, the original video, you can hear
- 12:57them mention an influencer. I think they mentioned SOPA DOPA
- 13:00but they like mute that section. I'm not adding it out, just.
- 13:03Careful because you have a phone calls coming out.
- 13:06So people are like, OK, so you were editing the video enough to
- 13:09like mute a specific section so Sofajova's name wasn't in the
- 13:12video, but you didn't think to cut that part out?
- 13:15And then here is Bill's apology. I.
- 13:17Just want to say how genuinely sorry I am for the comments I
- 13:21made in that video from the bottom of my fucking heart.
- 13:23I'm so sorry. Matter what context I say my
- 13:28words in, they still carry meaning and they were wrong and
- 13:31it was unacceptable. I just want to preface clearly
- 13:36that those comments were directed at no person, no one.
- 13:41Regardless, I said it and I have to take responsibility for that.
- 13:45I should know it better than anybody how impactful comments
- 13:48are about other people's bodies. My body was my biggest
- 13:51insecurity growing up and it really it hurts me more than
- 13:55anything to know that my words have contributed to people
- 13:59feeling that way. I can't express enough how
- 14:01damaging that kind of thing is to post in 2026.
- 14:07There is so much discussion right now about how skinny is
- 14:12back. Everybody is shrinking.
- 14:14The pendulum has swung so far. Like, we made so much headway
- 14:18from like the early 2000s where we saw so many of our favorite
- 14:23celebrities just waste away. Culture did make positive
- 14:27headway on that. And we are slipping so far back
- 14:31and it's so scary to see. I'm so terrified for all the
- 14:33girls and young women now. Like being a 90s baby.
- 14:36I was born in 91, you know, like peak early 2000s culture was so
- 14:40fucked up. I can't tell you how much it
- 14:42messed up all of my friends and I.
- 14:44And I think we were so happy to feel like, OK, we actually like
- 14:47made some headway here. We made some progress here.
- 14:50And and it's all getting taken away and to have something like
- 14:53this posted where you're making a joke, quote UN quote joke like
- 14:56that, it's so toxic. It just reaffirms everything
- 14:59that we're all afraid of right now.
- 15:01That's coming back. This culture and the doubling
- 15:03down on the live before the actual quote UN quote actual
- 15:06apologies. No, anyways, guys, that's it for
- 15:09mini scroll today. Thank you so much for listening.
- 15:12I love you guys. Please remember to rate review
- 15:14and subscribe, please Spotify star rate US.
- 15:17I love you and Annabelle will talk to you guys tomorrow and
- 15:20then I will talk to you on Thursday.
- 15:21Bye.
