- 0:33Speaker 1: What is happening everybody, this is Dave Kroff, and welcome back to another Q review here at 52Qs, where I review a Q written by a member of the 52Qs community and give my thoughts and feedback and a critique, like you might hear from a music supervisor or pitching to a librarian.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Today we are checking out Happy Go Lucky by 52Qs community member Chris Moser, so we're gonna take a listen to it and then talk about it on the other side.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Oh, oh, oh, oh.
- 3:03Speaker 1: All right, that was Happy Go Lucky by Chris Moser.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Chris, thank you so much for sending this along.
- 3:30Speaker 1: This was sent along during our week 31 weekly feedback threads and I really enjoyed this.
- 3:37Speaker 1: I'm not sure.
- 3:38Speaker 1: I'm not sure that Happy Go Lucky though is as far as the title goes.
- 3:43Speaker 1: I'm not sure it communicates kind of the epicness of what this ended up being.
- 3:50Speaker 1: I did really enjoy an impeccable whistling, by the way.
- 3:54Speaker 1: I thought the whistling sounded fantastic.
- 3:57Speaker 1: I thought maybe minimize the breaths and I'm really picking, being nitpicky, yeah, and I don't think completely remove the breaths, but maybe just go in and pull them down in the mix a little bit.
- 4:21Speaker 1: But I thought I thought this was well done.
- 4:24Speaker 1: The mix did feel loud and this could be, you know, just pulling, pulling down from SoundCloud or whatever.
- 4:34Speaker 1: But we were getting, we're getting into, you know, seven integrated seven.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Short term.
- 4:41Speaker 1: It feels a little loud and we are looks like we are clipping the output bus again.
- 4:47Speaker 1: That might be, that might just be the, the MP3 compression, but I thought this was fantastic great melody.
- 4:56Speaker 1: I felt like the guitars could probably come out in the mix a little bit and I felt like the lower end maybe, maybe pull down and have the drums be a little bit more trans, especially the back beats and the snare drum and that big kind of synth, wavy, synth wavy electronic drum fill.
- 5:22Speaker 1: I thought was really really effective.
- 5:24Speaker 1: But out of that, I wonder how a four on the floor would sound here.
- 5:30Speaker 1: You know, something like that could something like that could be.
- 5:43Speaker 1: It could be effective.
- 5:44Speaker 1: I just felt like it needed another gear of energy just to kind of push it forward a little bit and getting into some sixes short term.
- 5:54Speaker 1: I thought this was really effective and if we were coming out of a four on the floor we have bump, yeah, and I think that breakdown, that little, that percussion break, would be more effective if we came out of a four on the floor section and then back into the fourth and just I don't know, make it a little bit densier, a little bit more dancy, and that might help with the title Happy, go Lucky.
- 6:48Speaker 1: This feels a little copy and pasty here on the end.
- 7:19Speaker 1: I like that ending.
- 7:20Speaker 1: We want to obviously give them a version with a clean ending, and yeah, I just I wonder.
- 7:25Speaker 1: So I just want to see what this would sound like if we didn't go, you know, if we were just kind of crossfading, clean that up just a little bit more, just to see what that would sound like.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Yeah, because we've heard, we've heard that hook quite a bit and and yeah, this puts our button right around 215 or so, and I think that's a little, just a little bit tighter, a little bit tighter as far as the arrangement goes.
- 8:12Speaker 1: And, to be honest, I don't know if you need this intro.
- 8:21Speaker 1: What would it sound like if we just came out of the gate, just like that that puts our button right around 205 or so, yeah, and the kick could punch.
- 9:03Speaker 1: I don't know if it needs a little bit more parallel compression or something, just so it pops a little bit more.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I think this is working.
- 9:20Speaker 1: And then we go into the synthwave drum fill here.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Oh no, I'm afraid ahead a little bit.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Is this where we're going?
- 9:38Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely go into a four on the floor.
- 9:42Speaker 1: But, as I mentioned, this was sent along during our week 31 weekly feedback thread.
- 9:49Speaker 1: We put weekly feedback threads together every single week and, as of this recording, we are collecting for week 33.
- 9:54Speaker 1: And so if you would like your cue featured here on the 52 cues channel, then head over to 52 cuescom and join.
- 10:02Speaker 1: The community would love to have you.
- 10:04Speaker 1: And if you found that feedback helpful and this is something that you would like for your own cues beyond the channel, then head over to 52 cuescom slash coaching, where you can order up your own feedback video where I will look at everything from your mix, the mastering, the title, form, structure, harmonic language, everything that you saw here into your own private video file.
- 10:28Speaker 1: So if that's something that you would like, then head over to 52 cuescom slash coaching.
- 10:33Speaker 1: And while you're there, you can also book a one on one coaching session and would absolutely love to work with you.
- 10:41Speaker 1: But that's going to do it for me.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Thank you so much for joining me and until next time, peace.
