- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome to Just the Cats with Michael Bennett. Hello, Big
- 0:07Speaker 1: Blue Nation. Welcome to Just the Cats. My name is
- 0:10Speaker 1: Michael Bennett, and I'm not fun on this Wednesday, October 28th.
- 0:14Speaker 1: I hope everybody's having a great day. It's beautiful. Justin,
- 0:18Speaker 1: good morning to you. How are you? I'm concerned. Oh,
- 0:21Speaker 1: you are?
- 0:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:22Speaker 3: Don't be concerned. Please don't be. Well, you mentioned it
- 0:24Speaker 3: a number of times already.
- 0:25Speaker 4: No.
- 0:26Speaker 3: I'm concerned that you're letting it get to you.
- 0:28Speaker 1: No, not at all. And by the way, it's a
- 0:30Speaker 1: beautiful sunrise outside. Oh, that I can't see. Yeah, exactly.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Every now and then, you need to take a little
- 0:36Speaker 1: break and go outside, because- The last few days, they
- 0:42Speaker 1: have been amazingly brilliantly bright sunrises. I just want you
- 0:46Speaker 1: to know it's a great day. No, I'm not letting
- 0:48Speaker 1: it affect me. I just think it's funny when people
- 0:50Speaker 1: say I'm not fun. But anyway, I do. I like
- 0:54Speaker 1: it when people get on here and say stuff about me.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Because you think I'm serious about it. I'm just kidding.
- 1:02Speaker 1: I'm in a great mood.
- 1:04Speaker 3: Well, I also know you well enough at this point
- 1:08Speaker 3: that when you mention it a number of times, I
- 1:10Speaker 3: know it bothers you at least a little bit.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Probably a little bit, but no. I just like getting
- 1:18Speaker 1: to people that tweet me out, and I say I'll
- 1:22Speaker 1: be the opposite. So, no, no, no. It bothers me
- 1:26Speaker 1: maybe a touch, but that's all. But I like to
- 1:29Speaker 1: make fun of the people that make fun of me.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Is that a problem? No. Okay. I'm good with it.
- 1:33Speaker 1: All right, good. I just that's one of my things
- 1:35Speaker 1: that I like to do. So, Tim, I'm I'm I'm fine. OK,
- 1:40Speaker 1: I just want you to know I'm fine. I keep
- 1:43Speaker 1: convincing myself that I think I am. I don't maybe
- 1:46Speaker 1: I am boring. Who knows? But no, it's just one
- 1:49Speaker 1: of those things that it gets me for about a second.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Then it's like, no, I'm not going to let that
- 1:54Speaker 1: bother me. And you know what I do? I start thinking, no,
- 1:56Speaker 1: it's going to be a great day. Although I've had
- 1:58Speaker 1: like four people cut me off on the road. Is Louisville,
- 2:01Speaker 1: Kentucky becoming a more and more aggressive town as far
- 2:05Speaker 1: as driving? I think it's just always been like that.
- 2:08Speaker 1: You think it's always been like that? See, I don't
- 2:10Speaker 1: feel that way. I feel like.
- 2:12Speaker 3: You also had a lot more experience than me. Oh,
- 2:16Speaker 3: that's a nice way to say I'm old.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Basically. Yeah, thank you. I appreciate that. Now my day's
- 2:21Speaker 1: getting worse, so maybe I'm not fun because I'm old.
- 2:25Speaker 1: But no, I feel like drivers are getting more and
- 2:28Speaker 1: more aggressive. Maybe I'm wrong. But anyway, now I can't
- 2:32Speaker 1: get my mind off of candy, cookies, and cakes because
- 2:36Speaker 1: of what you did the last three minutes of your show. Yeah,
- 2:40Speaker 1: I think we should take the show on the road
- 2:42Speaker 1: and go across the street. Can we get the Comrex
- 2:44Speaker 1: and just talk while we go over there? I'll buy
- 2:46Speaker 1: everything you want. No, we can't. Because the Comrex is
- 2:48Speaker 1: at my house. Oh, it is? What's it doing there?
- 2:51Speaker 3: I need it for football on Friday.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Yeah, but you should bring it here just in case
- 2:55Speaker 1: I have a whim and we want to go do
- 2:57Speaker 1: something on the road.
- 2:58Speaker 3: I probably should have it here. You're probably right on that.
- 3:01Speaker 3: But I usually just hang on to it during football season.
- 3:03Speaker 1: I don't know. I've been looking for a place to
- 3:05Speaker 1: go do a remote, and I haven't found anything yet.
- 3:08Speaker 1: But if you have a business or something you would
- 3:10Speaker 1: like to sponsor, let me know. All you got to
- 3:13Speaker 1: do is tweet me, private DM at Jessica at Radio,
- 3:17Speaker 1: and I'd love to come there and do it. Justin
- 3:18Speaker 1: and I would both love to come there. We can
- 3:20Speaker 1: get Trevor to cover for you, right?
- 3:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:23Speaker 1: As long as it starts at 830. Yeah. But anyway.
- 3:27Speaker 3: As long as I don't have a tee, Tom.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Come on. Yeah. Just don't tell him you're playing golf.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Do you think it was intentional that he was that late?
- 3:37Speaker 3: No, I just think he's a slacker in the mornings.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Really? Okay. All right. He hates mornings. Why? Mornings are great.
- 3:44Speaker 1: I agree. Nothing better than getting up early in the morning.
- 3:47Speaker 1: I've always been that way.
- 3:49Speaker 3: When I walk out of my house every morning to
- 3:51Speaker 3: come to here to do the radio, and it.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Is just silent, oh, it's incredible. Yeah.
- 3:58Speaker 3: I mean, there's nothing better.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Well, not just that. It's dark, too.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't like the dark.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Oh, you don't?
- 4:05Speaker 2: I do.
- 4:05Speaker 3: I'd rather it be light.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Really? But I just, I do. I enjoy the quiet.
- 4:09Speaker 3: Like when I, even on the weekends, I typically I'll
- 4:11Speaker 3: sleep till eight, eight 30 on the weekends. And my
- 4:15Speaker 3: first move, as soon as I wake up is I'll
- 4:17Speaker 3: walk outside and I'll just go sit on the porch
- 4:19Speaker 3: for two, three minutes.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Well, you know, it's getting ready to get dark again
- 4:22Speaker 1: this weekend. I know it. I know it. Just letting
- 4:26Speaker 1: you know. And it depressed me. I know. I just,
- 4:30Speaker 1: I wish they.
- 4:31Speaker 3: Would just can't wait for it to be dark at
- 4:33Speaker 3: five o'clock.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Yeah. That, to me, is the most depressing. When it
- 4:36Speaker 1: gets dark down there. When I lived in Nashville, Tennessee,
- 4:39Speaker 1: when I had my first job down there, I would
- 4:43Speaker 1: leave in the dark and get home in the dark
- 4:44Speaker 1: because it would get dark around 4 o'clock there. That's
- 4:47Speaker 1: me every day in the wintertime. Really? Every day. I
- 4:50Speaker 1: can't stand that. It just drives me nuts. But anyway,
- 4:54Speaker 1: it's going to be a great day. I'm looking forward
- 4:56Speaker 1: to it. Nick Mangione is going to be on with
- 4:58Speaker 1: us a little later on in this hour. So, uh, and, and, and,
- 5:02Speaker 1: you know, I told you on our crosstalk, he has
- 5:05Speaker 1: all kinds of things he already wants to talk about.
- 5:07Speaker 1: He's like, Michael, I want to talk about this. And
- 5:09Speaker 1: then he goes, and let's just see where it goes
- 5:11Speaker 1: from there. We'll have fun. I love how he is.
- 5:14Speaker 1: He gets me. So I, you talk about energy. He
- 5:17Speaker 1: is a gigantic ball of energy and he always gets
- 5:22Speaker 1: me excited and he's got me excited even before he
- 5:25Speaker 1: comes on. So when he comes on, you're going to
- 5:27Speaker 1: have to calm me down. Because I'm going to get
- 5:29Speaker 1: so excited that I'm not going to do a good
- 5:31Speaker 1: job interviewing him. Okay? Because then I don't want to
- 5:35Speaker 1: become the fanboy. Because I am a big fan of his.
- 5:37Speaker 1: But I consider him a friend, too. But, no, he
- 5:41Speaker 1: just got me all excited last night. Because I had
- 5:43Speaker 1: to call him. You know why? Because nobody can call
- 5:47Speaker 1: into the studio. No, they can call in, but we
- 5:49Speaker 1: can't call out. Which makes no sense. How does that break?
- 5:53Speaker 3: That I don't know. But we've been having that issue
- 5:56Speaker 3: for a few weeks now.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Really? Really. Okay.
- 5:58Speaker 3: But we're getting ready to move studios, so I don't
- 6:00Speaker 3: even think they care.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Okay. Well, he just texted me he's going to be
- 6:04Speaker 1: a little late. What? Unacceptable. Exactly. He's going to be
- 6:10Speaker 1: a little late. Anyway, so I'll talk to him in
- 6:14Speaker 1: a minute. But, yeah, so he'll be on it now, 845.
- 6:17Speaker 1: So he has an 815. So no big deal. And
- 6:22Speaker 1: I'll text him when he's ready. But, yeah, we'll have
- 6:24Speaker 1: him for a few minutes and talk about everything that's
- 6:27Speaker 1: going on. Because he wants to talk about football, too. Okay.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Because a lot of people talked about him saying how
- 6:35Speaker 1: much the baseball program is taking advantage of the success
- 6:40Speaker 1: of the football program. And I agree with that. Don't
- 6:43Speaker 1: you think the success of any program within an athletic
- 6:50Speaker 1: department helps all the other programs? Or do you think
- 6:52Speaker 1: it's just, oh, you don't?
- 6:54Speaker 4: No.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Why?
- 6:55Speaker 3: Because, I mean, there's just not that trickle-down effect with
- 6:58Speaker 3: every sport. You know, like if girls golf or women's
- 7:01Speaker 3: golf is tearing it up, that's not going to trickle
- 7:04Speaker 3: down to the other sports. No, I think it's the
- 7:06Speaker 3: major sports. It has to be one of the big
- 7:08Speaker 3: sports like a football.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:10Speaker 3: More so football than anything else.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Why do you say more so football than basketball?
- 7:16Speaker 3: Because football is the money driver. I mean, football is
- 7:19Speaker 3: the engine that runs an athletic department.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Well, that's the money side of it. Now, the excitement side.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Don't you think basketball trickles down to other sports as well?
- 7:28Speaker 1: Or do you still think it's only football?
- 7:32Speaker 3: I mean, I do think there's a little bit of
- 7:34Speaker 3: a trickle-down effect, but I don't think it's as aggressive
- 7:37Speaker 3: as it is with football.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Why is it football then? Because you're probably right from
- 7:41Speaker 1: the aspect of IU.
- 7:44Speaker 3: I wasn't even going for the aspect of Indiana. I
- 7:46Speaker 3: was just in general.
- 7:48Speaker 1: But the basketball program hasn't benefited from the success of
- 7:53Speaker 1: the football program. Has it? Maybe I'm wrong.
- 7:56Speaker 3: Basketball program's dead.
- 7:59Speaker 1: That's pretty strong. That's how I feel. Okay. I do
- 8:03Speaker 1: feel like Nick Minjone is right. And we'll hear more
- 8:06Speaker 1: what he has to say about it and have him
- 8:08Speaker 1: describe why. But I do feel like when you have
- 8:11Speaker 1: a successful, and you're right, it's not the minor sports.
- 8:14Speaker 1: It's the major sports. Because if it was the minor sports, too,
- 8:17Speaker 1: we would be killing it with cheerleading, with the rifle,
- 8:21Speaker 1: who's won the most national championships of anything. But it
- 8:27Speaker 1: has to be football and basketball. And I always felt
- 8:31Speaker 1: like basketball was successful with that.
- 8:35Speaker 3: But maybe I'm wrong. But that's kind of how I've
- 8:38Speaker 3: always felt. So we'll be talking about it.
- 8:40Speaker 1: But the one thing I do want to talk about today,
- 8:43Speaker 1: and I've been wanting to talk about this for a
- 8:44Speaker 1: couple of days because you disagreed with me a little
- 8:47Speaker 1: bit on Monday. Was that Kenny Minchie's best game against Vanderbilt?
- 8:53Speaker 1: And I thought it was his best game of the season.
- 8:56Speaker 4: Now.
- 8:56Speaker 1: He even said it. He thought it was. Okay. See,
- 8:59Speaker 1: I still don't understand why you don't think it was.
- 9:02Speaker 3: I mean, it was just, it was like all the
- 9:04Speaker 3: other games.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Okay.
- 9:06Speaker 3: I feel like every game he's had has been the exact.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Same stat line. Yeah.
- 9:11Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:12Speaker 3: I don't know how you could pick one over the other.
- 9:14Speaker 3: I mean, I guess for me, why I say no
- 9:18Speaker 3: is because of the opponent.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:20Speaker 3: You know, I mean, Vanderbilt wasn't great.
- 9:22Speaker 1: So.
- 9:22Speaker 3: It probably should be his best performance of the season
- 9:26Speaker 3: because it was outside of Youngstown and South Alabama was
- 9:29Speaker 3: the easiest opponent he's played all season.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, let me ask you this, though. If Kenny
- 9:36Speaker 1: Menchie was quarterback for any other team out there that
- 9:41Speaker 1: is well-known for football, for instance, what if he was
- 9:44Speaker 1: still with the University of Notre Dame and he's having
- 9:48Speaker 1: the exact same stat line at the University of Notre Dame?
- 9:53Speaker 1: Do you think he would be getting more national attention
- 9:57Speaker 1: than he is at UK? Because there's been a lot.
- 10:02Speaker 1: I shouldn't say a lot. There's been a few media
- 10:05Speaker 1: members that have said, listen, If this UK football team
- 10:09Speaker 1: had another school, Ohio State, Michigan, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, on
- 10:16Speaker 1: their helmet, they would be ranked a lot higher, which
- 10:20Speaker 1: led me to believe, well, if that's the case for UK.
- 10:25Speaker 1: And the lack of respect. Oh, they're getting more respect,
- 10:27Speaker 1: but still somewhat a little disrespect. Do you think Kenny
- 10:31Speaker 1: Michie is getting the same kind of disrespect? Because I
- 10:35Speaker 1: agree with a number of people that are now calling
- 10:38Speaker 1: out Notre Dame saying, listen, there's no way Notre Dame
- 10:41Speaker 1: should be ranked over UK. And I would agree with that. Now,
- 10:44Speaker 1: what do you think about Kenny Michie?
- 10:47Speaker 3: In the instant area, with the example of Notre Dame,
- 10:50Speaker 3: I'm going to say no. Only because... You don't hear
- 10:54Speaker 3: a lot about CJ Carr. I mean, Notre Dame.
- 10:57Speaker 1: But he's not having the season UK is. Or Kenny
- 11:00Speaker 1: Minchie is, is he? I don't think so. I mean,
- 11:02Speaker 1: he's been okay. He hasn't beaten a top ten team.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Or two of them.
- 11:07Speaker 3: They don't play it.
- 11:08Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 11:09Speaker 3: That's why this isn't a good comparison.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Okay.
- 11:11Speaker 3: Because you're talking about a Notre Dame team that doesn't
- 11:13Speaker 3: play anybody. All right, let's use somebody else. Versus a
- 11:15Speaker 3: Kentucky team that had the hardest schedule that I've ever seen.
- 11:18Speaker 1: All right, let's use somebody else. What is another team
- 11:21Speaker 1: that we should compare it to? I guess Ohio State. Okay.
- 11:26Speaker 3: And is he getting more love? Probably so, yeah. I
- 11:29Speaker 3: would say so.
- 11:30Speaker 1: So if Kenny Minchie had Ohio State on his jersey
- 11:34Speaker 1: and his helmet, you'd think he'd be getting a lot
- 11:36Speaker 1: more attention. Because I agree. I think he would be.
- 11:40Speaker 1: And I think a lot more people would be talking
- 11:42Speaker 1: about him. Same thing with Kenny Darby. If Kenny Darby
- 11:45Speaker 1: was playing for any other team out there at wide receiver,
- 11:49Speaker 1: do you think he'd be getting a lot more national notoriety? Maybe.
- 11:55Speaker 3: That one's a little bit more tricky because I feel
- 11:58Speaker 3: like the wide receivers can get lost in the shuffle.
- 12:00Speaker 3: Do you think so? Whereas the quarterback's the main guy.
- 12:03Speaker 3: He's the guy running the offense, so he's obviously going
- 12:06Speaker 3: to get more love than anybody else. I mean, I
- 12:09Speaker 3: think what the wide receivers have done as a whole,
- 12:11Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, Kenny Darby's been spectacular, but DJ Miller's
- 12:15Speaker 3: been really good. Nick Anderson, when he's been healthy, has
- 12:17Speaker 3: been really good. I mean, people are talking about Willie
- 12:20Speaker 3: Rodriguez as one of the best, if not the best
- 12:23Speaker 3: tight end in the country. So you are getting attention.
- 12:26Speaker 3: And again, Kentucky football has always been awful. Well, not always.
- 12:31Speaker 3: You've had decent seasons.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Yes let me say that 2018 was a pretty good
- 12:36Speaker 1: season it's.
- 12:37Speaker 3: Going to take some and this is what i've tried
- 12:39Speaker 3: to tell you all for for weeks now is yeah
- 12:41Speaker 3: it's gonna take time for the nation to catch up
- 12:45Speaker 3: to kentucky football and figure out that hey they're this
- 12:48Speaker 3: is legit will stein's legit kenny meant this kenny minchi
- 12:51Speaker 3: kid he's pretty awesome as well doesn't doesn't really turn
- 12:54Speaker 3: the ball over that stuff takes time i mean yeah
- 12:57Speaker 3: you're in the top 10 now and and and that'll
- 13:00Speaker 3: that's going to continue to increase if you still win games.
- 13:02Speaker 3: I mean, you're going to move up the rankings even
- 13:04Speaker 3: more and then maybe more people are going to catch on,
- 13:07Speaker 3: but it doesn't, that's not something you just snap your
- 13:09Speaker 3: fingers and it happens immediately.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Well, cause here's the thing. We didn't talk about it yesterday,
- 13:14Speaker 1: but Monday, uh, UK football wide receiver, Kenny Darby named
- 13:19Speaker 1: sec freshmen of the week again for the third time
- 13:23Speaker 1: in four weeks. That's pretty amazing in the SEC, which
- 13:28Speaker 1: is widely considered the best conference in the country.
- 13:33Speaker 3: Yeah, but how many good freshmen?
- 13:37Speaker 1: I can't answer.
- 13:38Speaker 3: I would say there's a number of really good freshmen
- 13:40Speaker 3: in the conference. Keelan Russell at Alabama, he's been pretty good.
- 13:43Speaker 3: Jared Curtis, he's been pretty good. But those are both quarterbacks.
- 13:47Speaker 3: I don't know of any more freshmen.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Okay. Well, against Vanderbilt, he caught four passes for 71 yards.
- 13:52Speaker 1: He has caught 38 passes this season so far, which
- 13:56Speaker 1: is the most by a U.K. freshman through eight games.
- 14:00Speaker 1: That's pretty substantial. He needs 13 more to break the
- 14:04Speaker 1: record set by Barry and Brown in 2022. I think
- 14:08Speaker 1: he's on pace to beat Barry and Brown and be
- 14:11Speaker 1: considered the best freshman wide receiver at UK. He's also
- 14:16Speaker 1: on pace to break Brown's receiving yards record. His 507
- 14:22Speaker 1: yards are the most by a freshman in the SEC
- 14:26Speaker 1: and ranks third nationally.
- 14:31Speaker 3: Those are pretty amazing stats. Yeah, I mean, we talked
- 14:34Speaker 3: about it last week. He's going to probably, in all likelihood...
- 14:37Speaker 3: He's going to be SEC all-freshman team. I don't see
- 14:41Speaker 3: a world where he's not at this point.
- 14:43Speaker 1: I don't either. And I just wondered if you thought
- 14:48Speaker 1: he would be getting more attention. I tend to think that, yes,
- 14:52Speaker 1: that narrative is absolutely correct. If he was wearing anything else,
- 14:56Speaker 1: he would be getting a lot more national attention. And
- 14:59Speaker 1: he's not.
- 14:59Speaker 3: By the way, you bring up Barry and Brown.
- 15:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:02Speaker 1: He was awesome on Sunday. Really? Any of that? No,
- 15:05Speaker 1: I didn't. Who's I tell you, I don't even know
- 15:07Speaker 1: who he's playing.
- 15:08Speaker 3: He's with the Saints. So I was paying close attention. Obviously,
- 15:10Speaker 3: they were playing my Steelers. He had a long, long
- 15:13Speaker 3: punt return.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Didn't get.
- 15:15Speaker 3: In for the score, but it was a crazy punt return.
- 15:17Speaker 3: He had a big reception in that game. Yeah, he
- 15:20Speaker 3: was a lot of fun to watch. Man, it would
- 15:21Speaker 3: have been fun to have him play on a Will
- 15:24Speaker 3: Stein team. That would have been.
- 15:27Speaker 1: If you look back and think of all the players
- 15:30Speaker 1: that have been at UK the last 10 years... I
- 15:33Speaker 1: think Benny Snell would have been fun there. Josh Allen
- 15:37Speaker 1: would have been fun there. Now, would it have changed anything?
- 15:40Speaker 1: Probably not, but I think they would enjoy playing a
- 15:43Speaker 1: lot more a Will Stein offense compared to the offense
- 15:46Speaker 1: they played before. I just, I really think so, but
- 15:50Speaker 1: I'm trying to think of other players that would be fun.
- 15:52Speaker 1: I think Barry and Brown would be the number one
- 15:54Speaker 1: player I would want to come back between him and
- 15:56Speaker 1: Lynn Bowden. I think that would be a lot of
- 15:59Speaker 1: fun to have those two guys. One slot receiver, one
- 16:02Speaker 1: wide receiver. Yeah, but you're 7-1. You don't need them.
- 16:05Speaker 1: I know you don't, but... You're just being greedy now.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Why shouldn't I be? Shouldn't I be greedy? Come on.
- 16:12Speaker 1: You're greedy. You won another national championship. Come on. Share
- 16:15Speaker 1: the wealth, Justin. Let some other people win the national championship.
- 16:19Speaker 3: We're going to let someone else have it this year.
- 16:20Speaker 3: Then we'll be back and.
- 16:22Speaker 2: Oh.
- 16:22Speaker 3: In spectacular fashion.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Wait a minute. That's breaking news right there. So you've
- 16:26Speaker 1: lost faith in your IU about winning a championship this year? No,
- 16:30Speaker 1: I still think. That's essentially what you're saying right there.
- 16:32Speaker 3: I still think they could, but I've said Georgia from
- 16:35Speaker 3: the time the season started. I don't see a reason
- 16:37Speaker 3: now to back off of that, even with a lost Auburn.
- 16:40Speaker 1: So, yeah. I think that was a fluke. I think
- 16:43Speaker 1: that's one of those one time out of ten Auburn
- 16:46Speaker 1: wins that game. The other nine times Georgia wins that game. Mm-hmm. Yeah,
- 16:50Speaker 1: I still believe it's going to be between Georgia and
- 16:52Speaker 1: Ohio State. I think those are the two best teams
- 16:54Speaker 1: in the country. It depends on Julian saying. Well, that's true, too. Yeah.
- 17:00Speaker 1: I don't believe in Ohio State. You don't?
- 17:02Speaker 3: Even with saying, he's okay.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, but I still think they come around and
- 17:12Speaker 1: rally around, is what I'm trying to say, and win
- 17:14Speaker 1: as a team. It's not going to be just one player,
- 17:16Speaker 1: but I think.
- 17:17Speaker 3: They– They're not going to do that with their backup.
- 17:19Speaker 3: That kid stinks. Yeah, that's a nice thought.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Okay, good. But anyway, we'll see what happens. And I've
- 17:27Speaker 1: got a bad habit now. I just started today. I
- 17:30Speaker 1: got to stop this. And this is one of those
- 17:32Speaker 1: things where my former producer used to make fun of me.
- 17:36Speaker 1: And I have a bad habit of saying, but anyway.
- 17:39Speaker 1: I got to get that. I haven't caught on to that.
- 17:41Speaker 1: Kind of like at this juncture. Yeah. With you, mine
- 17:46Speaker 1: is that one.
- 17:46Speaker 3: No, my big one is right.
- 17:48Speaker 1: It is? Yeah. Right? Okay. I'll say it at the
- 17:51Speaker 1: end of the sentence. Oh, you will? A lot.
- 17:53Speaker 2: Huh.
- 17:54Speaker 3: Like, that game was fun last night, right?
- 17:55Speaker 1: Ah. I do that all the time. You want confirmation.
- 18:00Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 18:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know why I do it.
- 18:01Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 18:02Speaker 2: Okay. Okay.
- 18:03Speaker 1: All right. Well, we got to take a break. Uh,
- 18:05Speaker 1: 5 0 2 3 8 4 14 50. If you
- 18:07Speaker 1: want to call in, I'd appreciate it. Uh, 5 0
- 18:10Speaker 1: 2 4 1 4. I'd appreciate it even more. If
- 18:12Speaker 1: you want to text in on the whiskey thief text line,
- 18:13Speaker 1: 5 0 2 4 1 4 14 50, or you
- 18:15Speaker 1: can tweet me at just the cat radio. Uh, when
- 18:19Speaker 1: we come back, uh, yeah, we're going to talk a
- 18:21Speaker 1: little more about football, but man, some big news on
- 18:24Speaker 1: women's basketball, which I'm very excited about. And then, uh,
- 18:28Speaker 1: Is this gentleman, is he coming back? I mean, what's
- 18:31Speaker 1: going on at the SEC Network? We'll talk about that, too.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Stay right there. A lot more Just the Cats coming up.
- 19:29Speaker 1: What are we listening to right here? What a wild
- 19:32Speaker 1: song this is.
- 19:33Speaker 3: You don't like it? No, I never said I didn't
- 19:36Speaker 3: like it. It's just a wild song. Bottle Rockets. Ever
- 19:39Speaker 3: heard of the Bottle Rockets?
- 19:40Speaker 1: No, I've never heard of the Bottle Rockets. Me neither.
- 19:43Speaker 3: Have you ever done a Bottle Rocket? Have I ever
- 19:46Speaker 3: done a Bottle Rocket? Yeah, have you ever had a
- 19:48Speaker 3: Bottle Rocket?
- 19:49Speaker 1: The candy?
- 19:49Speaker 3: No.
- 19:50Speaker 1: No, the firecracker. No, but I've had the candy. Oh,
- 19:54Speaker 1: you have? Okay. You've never heard of a Bottle Rocket?
- 19:58Speaker 1: I don't guess so. It's actually a little firecracker that's
- 20:01Speaker 1: on a stick, and then it goes up in the
- 20:03Speaker 1: air and actually launches from a bottle. That's why it's
- 20:06Speaker 1: called a bottle rocket. Oh, that makes sense. Yeah, we
- 20:08Speaker 1: used to hold them as kids and not put them
- 20:09Speaker 1: in a bottle. It's not bottle. I can't. Bottle caps.
- 20:13Speaker 1: That's what I was thinking. Oh, okay. You know bottle caps. Okay, yeah. Yeah,
- 20:16Speaker 1: I never liked them. No, they're okay.
- 20:18Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 20:19Speaker 1: I never liked those that were the wax and had
- 20:21Speaker 1: the juice in the middle of them. I just thought
- 20:23Speaker 1: those were disgusting. I don't know what those are.
- 20:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:26Speaker 1: Oh, that's a good thing.
- 20:27Speaker 3: By the way, before we go on, is there a
- 20:30Speaker 3: candy that you used to have as a kid that
- 20:33Speaker 3: they no longer make that you wish they'd bring back?
- 20:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I talked about it not too long ago.
- 20:40Speaker 1: It's the, oh, what's that caramel sucker that they make? Oh, crap,
- 20:47Speaker 1: I can't think of it. Oh, Sugar Daddy. They used
- 20:50Speaker 1: to make a one called Sugar Mama. That is what
- 20:54Speaker 1: I wish they would. So have you ever had a
- 20:56Speaker 1: Sugar Daddy? Yeah. Okay. I love, love, love sugar daddies.
- 21:01Speaker 1: And then they used to make one called Sugar Mom
- 21:03Speaker 1: and had chocolate wrapped around the same sugar daddy. They
- 21:06Speaker 1: were delicious. I love those. Is there one that you
- 21:08Speaker 1: would want? No, I can't think of one. Really? Because
- 21:12Speaker 1: I still, I love hot tamales. Yeah, make fun of me.
- 21:15Speaker 1: I know. I don't like cinnamon, but I do love those. Uh,
- 21:19Speaker 1: I do love sugar babies.
- 21:21Speaker 3: I do.
- 21:21Speaker 1: I M and M's. I know peanut ones are your favorite.
- 21:25Speaker 1: They're just M and M's are just okay to me.
- 21:27Speaker 1: The regular ones. I agree. Uh, I do get a
- 21:30Speaker 1: hankering for a Hershey's chocolate bar or a Mr. Good bar.
- 21:35Speaker 1: I like Mr. Good bar. And I probably would pick
- 21:38Speaker 1: a Nestle's crunch before I would pick any of those.
- 21:42Speaker 3: Okay.
- 21:42Speaker 1: I love the rice, uh, crispy crunch, whatever it is
- 21:46Speaker 1: in the Nestle crunch. And then the, oh, I tell
- 21:49Speaker 1: you another one that I hadn't had in a long time.
- 21:52Speaker 1: A thousand, what are they called? Thousand grand or 10,000.
- 21:55Speaker 1: Is it a hundred grand bar? Okay. I knew it
- 21:57Speaker 1: was one of those numbers right there. Yeah. A hundred
- 22:00Speaker 1: grand bar. Fantastic.
- 22:02Speaker 3: It's in my top three. I don't know where it ranks,
- 22:04Speaker 3: but it's in my top.
- 22:05Speaker 1: Really? Okay. Yeah. There's too many candy bars for me
- 22:09Speaker 1: to say, which I do and don't like, but baby
- 22:12Speaker 1: Ruth is probably my all time favorite between that. And
- 22:15Speaker 1: a Butterfinger. So if I go to DQ, I always
- 22:17Speaker 1: get the same Blizzard. It's always a Butterfinger Blizzard. Really? Yeah.
- 22:22Speaker 1: I'm a brownie batter guy. Are you really?
- 22:25Speaker 3: Give me the brownie batter with the extra brownie.
- 22:28Speaker 1: Now, if I go to a particular ice cream place,
- 22:32Speaker 1: Baskin Robbins is my favorite. I know it's all chemically,
- 22:36Speaker 1: but it's my favorite. I always get the same two
- 22:39Speaker 1: scoops literally all my life. My stomach.
- 22:41Speaker 3: And I still go there now. My stomach is so confused.
- 22:44Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 22:44Speaker 1: I know.
- 22:45Speaker 3: I'm so hungry, but it doesn't want candy.
- 22:48Speaker 1: Oh, really?
- 22:48Speaker 3: Despite talking candy all morning?
- 22:50Speaker 1: I know. Well, I love, I'll take, over candy, I'll
- 22:53Speaker 1: take ice cream. Any sweet, my sweet spot is ice cream.
- 22:57Speaker 1: I love ice cream. And I love, I don't know
- 23:00Speaker 1: what it is. Maybe it's just because I grew up
- 23:01Speaker 1: with Baskin Robbins, but I grew up with Rocky Road
- 23:07Speaker 1: and Chocolate Chip. And those are by far my favorite.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Just give me regular chocolate. Really? Okay. There you go.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Can we talk about this? Because we were talking about
- 23:20Speaker 1: it during the break. Thank you, WDRB and Wave for
- 23:23Speaker 1: merging and showing us the news instead of the World
- 23:26Speaker 1: Series last night.
- 23:27Speaker 3: Yeah, I didn't realize that went down until I saw
- 23:30Speaker 3: it on Twitter a little bit ago. People are big.
- 23:32Speaker 1: Mad at this. Yeah. Programming abruptly cut away, if you
- 23:36Speaker 1: didn't know this, from this World Series broadcast to transition
- 23:40Speaker 1: into local news during the 10th inning of the game.
- 23:45Speaker 1: How do you screw that up?
- 23:46Speaker 3: Well, apparently they couldn't, from what I read, they couldn't
- 23:48Speaker 3: figure out how to get.
- 23:49Speaker 1: It back to the game.
- 23:52Speaker 3: So they just kept on doing the news, and then
- 23:53Speaker 3: eventually they flipped over to an episode of Big Bang Theory.
- 23:57Speaker 3: Before finally getting it back to the game. What an
- 24:00Speaker 3: absolute mess.
- 24:01Speaker 1: I mean, we needed to hear that. Can you imagine
- 24:04Speaker 1: being the reporter sitting down there at the desk and
- 24:06Speaker 1: you know nobody wants to see your face and yet
- 24:09Speaker 1: you're doing the news? I don't think I could do that.
- 24:13Speaker 1: I think I'd be sitting there and just apologizing the
- 24:16Speaker 1: entire time instead of reporting the news. What a nightmare.
- 24:19Speaker 1: And just say, hey, I am so sorry you're seeing
- 24:22Speaker 1: my face. We are trying to resolve the issue right
- 24:25Speaker 1: now and get you back to the 10th inning. Can
- 24:28Speaker 1: you believe how stupid that was? And I hate that word,
- 24:32Speaker 1: but that was just dumb.
- 24:34Speaker 3: Do we blame DRB or Wave?
- 24:36Speaker 1: Wave. Well, they're the ones that bought the WDRB. It's
- 24:41Speaker 1: their fault. I saw the guys that are sports guys.
- 24:46Speaker 1: They're all nice guys. And they're doing their little bit
- 24:49Speaker 1: going to wave for the first time and showing where
- 24:52Speaker 1: they're working now and all this kind of stuff. I
- 24:54Speaker 1: got that. No, it is. So they shut down WDRB
- 24:58Speaker 1: and they all moved over to wave. So no, it
- 25:00Speaker 1: is 1000% wave three fault. All right. I can get
- 25:05Speaker 1: behind that.
- 25:05Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:06Speaker 1: My least favorite station.
- 25:07Speaker 2: Is it?
- 25:10Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 25:10Speaker 3: Mine's probably HHS.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Is it really? WHAS? Why is that?
- 25:15Speaker 3: I don't know. I don't really vibe with any of them.
- 25:18Speaker 3: I can watch the rest of them. I like LKY
- 25:21Speaker 3: as well, DRB.
- 25:22Speaker 1: Really? WDRB was always my favorite. Same. Especially in the
- 25:25Speaker 1: morning when my buddy Riggs was there. I love Sterling Riggs.
- 25:30Speaker 1: He's still a good friend. We go to church together,
- 25:33Speaker 1: so I see him a little bit when I go
- 25:35Speaker 1: to late service because he goes to late, but No,
- 25:38Speaker 1: he's a great guy, and I love Candace that's on there. Now,
- 25:41Speaker 1: the two people they hired in replacing of Sterling there, eh.
- 25:45Speaker 1: But no, WDRB is my favorite. So I'll watch sometimes Wave,
- 25:52Speaker 1: but nah. I don't really watch the news. Yeah, our
- 25:55Speaker 1: favorite girl left, by the way, in the morning on
- 25:57Speaker 1: Wave 3. Our favorite girl? Yeah. Who's that? Olivia Russell. Oh,
- 26:01Speaker 1: I heard that.
- 26:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 26:03Speaker 3: Moved to Orlando, of all places. I hate that for her.
- 26:07Speaker 1: Exactly. That's kind of how I feel. The armpit of America.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Wave three. Thank you. Well done. I didn't want to
- 26:12Speaker 1: see the extra innings and watch my Tampa Bay Rays
- 26:15Speaker 1: win a single game. Hey, you won.
- 26:17Speaker 3: Woo!
- 26:18Speaker 1: Yeah, did you see the video of the staff for
- 26:21Speaker 1: the Brewers taking away all the beer and champagne from
- 26:24Speaker 1: the Brewers locker room? Oh, yeah. They were running like
- 26:29Speaker 1: crazy in these big carts, pushing them down the hallway
- 26:33Speaker 1: to get out of the way.
- 26:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:35Speaker 1: That was kind of crazy right there.
- 26:37Speaker 3: Did that game give you any hope moving.
- 26:39Speaker 1: Forward, or are you still thinking it's over? No, it's over.
- 26:42Speaker 1: I mean, there's no way you come back. Has it
- 26:46Speaker 1: ever been done? I don't think so. Yeah, Boston over
- 26:49Speaker 1: the Yankees. Is that when it was? Okay. That's the
- 26:52Speaker 1: only time it's ever happened. Never in the World Series. Yeah,
- 26:55Speaker 1: I just don't see it happening. One person texted, let's see,
- 26:59Speaker 1: John here. Hey, Michael, I have said it before that
- 27:03Speaker 1: Kenny Menchie is and can be very special, even with
- 27:07Speaker 1: the big names I mentioned before. Let's go back and
- 27:10Speaker 1: mention those names. Joe Montana and Patrick Mahomes. Yes. And
- 27:17Speaker 1: Kenny Menchie all in one name. Sentence there. Yes, I
- 27:21Speaker 1: remember that, John. But for sure, this young man will
- 27:26Speaker 1: be an NFL quarterback. Now this prediction is on Kenny.
- 27:31Speaker 1: If he stays healthy and continues to win and do
- 27:35Speaker 1: great things on the field, everything else will fall into place.
- 27:39Speaker 3: You know who he reminds me of?
- 27:40Speaker 1: Kenny Menchie? No, who? Kyler Murray.
- 27:45Speaker 3: Ooh, that's an interesting comparison. They look similar. They're similarly sized.
- 27:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:50Speaker 3: I think he reminds me a lot of Kyler.
- 27:52Speaker 1: I really like Kenny Minchey. You know, we had him
- 27:55Speaker 1: on media day on the show when we were over
- 27:58Speaker 1: there at Commonwealth Stadium. And he walks up, very nice
- 28:01Speaker 1: to meet you, Mr. Bennett. And he was very professional
- 28:05Speaker 1: and very well-spoken. And then after he was on, he
- 28:11Speaker 1: came over and came around the table and said, thank
- 28:13Speaker 1: you for having me on. I'd love to hang out
- 28:17Speaker 1: and talk to you, but I got to take off.
- 28:18Speaker 1: And I really thought that was nice. He didn't need
- 28:20Speaker 1: to say any of that stuff. I fully expected him
- 28:23Speaker 1: to take the headphones off and take off. But he
- 28:26Speaker 1: stood there and came around the table, wanted to shake
- 28:29Speaker 1: my hand again. And I love that kind of stuff.
- 28:31Speaker 1: Colton Price was the same way. Yeah, that's pretty cool.
- 28:34Speaker 1: It really is. 48 Handlers said, people in the country
- 28:38Speaker 1: used to make homemade ice cream. You're talking to a
- 28:42Speaker 1: guy right now that still does. Homemade ice cream. Homemade
- 28:45Speaker 1: ice cream. Yeah. But my wife criticizes me because I
- 28:49Speaker 1: only make my favorite flavor. Are you ready for what
- 28:53Speaker 1: my favorite flavor is? Coffee. No. Vanilla. Gross. Really? Okay.
- 29:00Speaker 1: It's not boring. It is, but it's my favorite. My
- 29:05Speaker 1: favorite ice cream in the entire world is my own
- 29:07Speaker 1: ice cream. And it does take some time. And there's
- 29:10Speaker 1: a talent to it. But anyway, I just wanted to
- 29:15Speaker 1: let you know that. So thank you.
- 29:17Speaker 3: He also said sugar babies were sold at movie theaters
- 29:19Speaker 3: along with chocolate-covered raisins.
- 29:22Speaker 1: Yeah, there's a lot. Oh, I love chocolate. The Raisinets
- 29:26Speaker 1: is what they're called. Those were fantastic. Junior Mints are
- 29:30Speaker 1: probably the ones that grossed me out the most.
- 29:32Speaker 3: Really?
- 29:32Speaker 1: I love Junior Men's. Oh, you do?
- 29:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 29:35Speaker 1: Oh, no. I didn't like Junior Men's. Anyway, John here again. Michael,
- 29:40Speaker 1: I am ready and excited to watch our basketball cats
- 29:42Speaker 1: in action today. Tell me, Michael, how excited are you
- 29:45Speaker 1: for the game? Will you be watching? The basketball cats
- 29:48Speaker 1: will win by 20 plus. We're going to talk about
- 29:51Speaker 1: the basketball team second hour.
- 29:54Speaker 3: Who the hell are y'all even playing?
- 29:56Speaker 1: UCF, University of Central Florida. Yeah, I saw it, yes. Yeah,
- 29:59Speaker 1: games at 6 o'clock tonight. So I'm going to wait
- 30:02Speaker 1: until we're going to take a break in just a second,
- 30:05Speaker 1: and then we'll talk to Nick Mingione. But then after that,
- 30:08Speaker 1: we'll talk about the game, basketball game in the second hour.
- 30:12Speaker 1: So that'll be at the very beginning of the second hour.
- 30:15Speaker 1: So be prepared for that. And I'm prepared for this. But,
- 30:19Speaker 1: you know, no offense to Central Florida and our basketball cats,
- 30:24Speaker 1: It's an exhibition game. Now, if this was first game
- 30:27Speaker 1: of the year, no, no. It'd be the first thing
- 30:29Speaker 1: we would talk about on the show. But it's an
- 30:30Speaker 1: exhibition game. The third and last one. And I am. John,
- 30:34Speaker 1: don't get me wrong. I'm real excited about the game tonight.
- 30:37Speaker 1: I'm real excited about the season starting even more. So
- 30:40Speaker 1: let's just get the season going. Don't you agree, Justin? Yeah.
- 30:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:44Speaker 1: So. Next week.
- 30:47Speaker 4: Is it?
- 30:47Speaker 1: Yeah, it is. November 3rd is the first game, isn't it?
- 30:50Speaker 1: That'd be, I think, Tuesday. Tuesday. Next Tuesday. Oh, wow. Okay. Uh,
- 30:56Speaker 1: Josh texted out, um, I won't say her current age,
- 31:01Speaker 1: but my wife worked at the Baskin Robbins on Shelbyville
- 31:05Speaker 1: Road in Middletown for several years during her time at
- 31:09Speaker 1: Eastern High School. Needless to say, we are huge fan
- 31:12Speaker 1: of 31 Flavors, laugh out loud. Listen, I was just
- 31:16Speaker 1: there a couple of weeks ago.
- 31:18Speaker 3: You probably saw Josh's wife back in the day.
- 31:21Speaker 1: Maybe I did. But no, when I was growing up,
- 31:24Speaker 1: there was one open over at Holiday Manor off Brownsville Road.
- 31:28Speaker 1: And that's the one we... Went to the most. No,
- 31:30Speaker 1: I shouldn't say that. We would go to the one there.
- 31:32Speaker 1: I'll shove a road. So maybe I did, Josh, run
- 31:34Speaker 1: into your wife. So I couldn't work there. I would
- 31:38Speaker 1: have weighed 400 pounds because I would have been tasting
- 31:42Speaker 1: every flavor there. All right. We got a break. Okay.
- 31:48Speaker 1: Are you okay? Yeah. We got a break.
- 31:51Speaker 2: All right.
- 31:51Speaker 1: You can tell me that. I just did.
- 31:53Speaker 4: Okay.
- 31:53Speaker 1: All right. I think we've got a break now. Everybody,
- 31:56Speaker 1: we've got a break. 502-414-1450. If you've got any questions
- 32:01Speaker 1: for Coach Mingione, text him in right now, and I'll
- 32:04Speaker 1: include him in the interview. So stay right there. When
- 32:06Speaker 1: we come back, Nick Mingione will be on with us.
- 32:09Speaker 1: See you in a minute.
- 32:11Speaker 3: With my brand-new radar gun.
- 32:18Speaker 2: You know I share a William Buck burgers.
- 32:39Speaker 4: All these cats with holey jeans, dirty hair and titty rings. Say,
- 32:53Speaker 4: what you see, man?
- 32:55Speaker 3: We got these questions.
- 32:56Speaker 2: Is it true that you sold your soul?
- 33:00Speaker 1: I say, hey, man, I don't know.
- 33:02Speaker 2: Let me quote.
- 33:17Speaker 1: I hate to tell you. Three, nine, four, 14, five
- 33:19Speaker 1: Oh two, three, nine, four, 1450. I'm like, we're ready.
- 33:25Speaker 1: He goes, just need a number to call three, eight.
- 33:29Speaker 3: Oh no, no.
- 33:30Speaker 1: Okay. Three, eight, four. Oh, my gosh.
- 33:34Speaker 3: 502-384-1450.
- 33:35Speaker 1: I know. You should be texting him, not me. 384-1450.
- 33:40Speaker 3: I can't handle that much power.
- 33:42Speaker 1: You know that. Sorry about that. I know. I'm trying.
- 33:48Speaker 1: It's the second number. Oh, boy. I say the number
- 33:54Speaker 1: every day, and then when I go tell him to
- 33:56Speaker 1: call in, I can't remember what the number is. That
- 33:59Speaker 1: is so Michael Bench. Well, it is. I mean, I
- 34:02Speaker 1: don't know what the freaking deal is. Okay. He's calling. Okay, good.
- 34:06Speaker 1: All right, then. So I don't know why I mess
- 34:10Speaker 1: that kind of stuff. Something with me with that and numbers.
- 34:13Speaker 1: But anyway, so right now, are we there? Are you
- 34:18Speaker 1: still answering the phone? Yes.
- 34:20Speaker 2: Anyway.
- 34:21Speaker 1: Okay, good. All right. Joining us now, University of Kentucky
- 34:24Speaker 1: head baseball coach and one of my favorites, Nick Mingione.
- 34:27Speaker 1: How you doing, coach?
- 34:30Speaker 2: I'm doing awesome. Got my boy dropped off at school,
- 34:33Speaker 2: heading to Kentucky Proud Park and, uh, Loving this weather
- 34:37Speaker 2: we've had. I don't know about you, but man, this
- 34:40Speaker 2: is some amazing Kentucky weather. So ready to rock and roll.
- 34:43Speaker 1: Well, it sure makes it easy when you got some
- 34:46Speaker 1: really nice weather and some fall baseball games. I know
- 34:49Speaker 1: you enjoyed that. So that had to make it fun
- 34:52Speaker 1: having the team out there, your new team for this
- 34:55Speaker 1: upcoming season. But that was kind of nice, wasn't it,
- 34:58Speaker 1: with the weather agreeing with you?
- 35:02Speaker 2: Yes, I think so. you know, for the fall for me,
- 35:05Speaker 2: I kind of want them to have a little bit
- 35:07Speaker 2: of everything and the nice weather. And we played at
- 35:10Speaker 2: Indiana for one of our fall games and man, was
- 35:13Speaker 2: it cold and rainy and misty. And so we got
- 35:17Speaker 2: some of that. We got a little bit of everything
- 35:19Speaker 2: so far.
- 35:20Speaker 1: That's why, and no one should move to Indiana. I mean,
- 35:23Speaker 1: stay in Kentucky. The weather is so much brighter here. I,
- 35:26Speaker 1: you know, when we were talking last night on the phone,
- 35:28Speaker 1: the one thing you, and this is one thing I've
- 35:31Speaker 1: experienced with you on the field is You you're like, Michael,
- 35:34Speaker 1: we got to talk about football and you know, you've
- 35:37Speaker 1: been very vocal about the football team and how it
- 35:40Speaker 1: kind of dropped trickles down with the success that will
- 35:43Speaker 1: Stein's having. It helps you as well. Talk about what
- 35:47Speaker 1: that means to you as the head baseball coach with
- 35:50Speaker 1: the success that will Stein's having.
- 35:53Speaker 2: Yeah. You know, my, my favorite hashtag and I'm, I'm
- 35:57Speaker 2: not good on social media. I don't do it a ton.
- 36:00Speaker 2: And what I've learned is as a leader, but when
- 36:04Speaker 2: I'm at my best, I can eliminate distractions. That's me
- 36:09Speaker 2: at my best. And, but what, so when I do
- 36:14Speaker 2: go on social media, what my favorite hashtag is, we
- 36:17Speaker 2: are UK. And the reason why I love this is
- 36:22Speaker 2: because it's about the university of Kentucky. And when the
- 36:27Speaker 2: fall semester starts, we're, I mean, it's football. I mean,
- 36:31Speaker 2: it is, let's, it's football. And obviously we got our
- 36:35Speaker 2: soccer is going and, um, but when football is going well,
- 36:39Speaker 2: I mean, we get 60,000 people in Kroger field, all connected,
- 36:44Speaker 2: unified as one group. And when you can connect that
- 36:48Speaker 2: many people in one place, plus think about the BBN,
- 36:51Speaker 2: that's not at the game, all the people outside, the
- 36:54Speaker 2: people that are watching the people all over our country.
- 36:57Speaker 2: And it can just connect a group of people as
- 37:01Speaker 2: well as anything. And, I just feel like that connection
- 37:05Speaker 2: and that excitement and our people have done an amazing
- 37:08Speaker 2: job with the football experience. The environment is incredible. Like
- 37:13Speaker 2: we have capitalized on this environment and the lights and
- 37:17Speaker 2: the fireworks and the flashlight. I mean, it is just, and,
- 37:22Speaker 2: and it can connect a lot of people and will
- 37:24Speaker 2: and his group have certainly done that. And it not
- 37:27Speaker 2: only helps football, it's, it's helped all the other sports.
- 37:31Speaker 2: And it's definitely a great thing.
- 37:33Speaker 1: It's created an electric environment. And that's what I, and
- 37:35Speaker 1: the energy level is so up. Will we see, cause
- 37:38Speaker 1: you know, I don't want to throw former administration in
- 37:42Speaker 1: the best, not, not at all, but it seems like
- 37:45Speaker 1: with the new faces that have come into the administration
- 37:48Speaker 1: at the athletic department at UK, that things have changed
- 37:51Speaker 1: and things have been really upped. Will we see this
- 37:54Speaker 1: next season as well carried over at Kentucky proud park?
- 38:00Speaker 2: Well, Michael, I, I got to tell you, to my experience,
- 38:04Speaker 2: the same people are running the event.
- 38:06Speaker 1: Oh, they are.
- 38:07Speaker 3: Okay.
- 38:07Speaker 1: Nevermind. Yeah.
- 38:09Speaker 2: It's, you know, obviously I know Jay and his staff
- 38:13Speaker 2: have come in and put their fingerprints on it for sure.
- 38:16Speaker 2: There's no doubt. I about that, but Schwalke and his
- 38:20Speaker 2: team and Greg, and they're, they're definitely capitalizing on the
- 38:25Speaker 2: success of the team and Jay, you know, this, our
- 38:29Speaker 2: new athletic, he's extremely bright.
- 38:31Speaker 1: Yes.
- 38:32Speaker 2: Like, so his fingerprints are definitely on, on this, but the, the,
- 38:38Speaker 2: just the success and you know, this, but like winning it,
- 38:42Speaker 2: it cures a lot of things. It has certainly done
- 38:47Speaker 2: that with our football program.
- 38:49Speaker 1: Absolutely. Well, let's talk a little bit about last season
- 38:52Speaker 1: before we get to the upcoming season. You know, you
- 38:56Speaker 1: were 18-2 with 13 straight wins after sweeping Alabama, then
- 39:00Speaker 1: kind of slipped up a little bit in the middle
- 39:02Speaker 1: of the season. What did you learn from that little
- 39:06Speaker 1: bit of slip? Because, you know, you took the team
- 39:10Speaker 1: to its fourth straight regional final after that. What changed
- 39:15Speaker 1: between that middle of the season to the postseason?
- 39:19Speaker 2: You know, anytime you, unfortunately, we're in this phase with
- 39:24Speaker 2: college athletics to where every team, you have a lot
- 39:29Speaker 2: of turnover. And if you're doing great as a baseball program,
- 39:33Speaker 2: you're having players drafted and moving on to professional baseball.
- 39:36Speaker 2: You're having guys graduate. Obviously, the transfer portal is a thing.
- 39:41Speaker 2: Every team has to be able to go through our
- 39:44Speaker 2: league and see. I can tell them all I want.
- 39:47Speaker 2: about the margin of victory being so small. Michael Oklahoma
- 39:51Speaker 2: wins the national championship baseball. They were our 11th best
- 39:54Speaker 2: team in our conference.
- 39:55Speaker 1: Crazy.
- 39:56Speaker 2: They were 11th.
- 39:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 39:58Speaker 2: They were the 11th best team in our league and
- 40:00Speaker 2: they won the national championship. Like nowhere else. And anyone
- 40:06Speaker 2: say that like in any other sport that I know
- 40:10Speaker 2: of the 11th best team in our league is not winning.
- 40:13Speaker 2: And Liz, this is not the first time this has happened.
- 40:16Speaker 2: In the last four years, this has happened at least
- 40:19Speaker 2: two times, and maybe you can argue three times. So
- 40:23Speaker 2: for us, our student-athletes, they have to go through those
- 40:27Speaker 2: nail biters, the gut punches. They have to understand the
- 40:32Speaker 2: importance of one pitch and how one pitch and one
- 40:34Speaker 2: play can just totally change the outcome. And when you
- 40:37Speaker 2: have a new team, they have to experience that. And
- 40:42Speaker 2: we certainly had guys experience that and have an appreciation
- 40:45Speaker 2: for for what it takes to win. And that is
- 40:49Speaker 2: an extreme detail.
- 40:50Speaker 1: You're exactly correct. Let's talk about draft day with Tyler Bell,
- 40:54Speaker 1: the 10th overall pick by the Rockies last year. What
- 40:57Speaker 1: was that like for you experience that one of your
- 41:01Speaker 1: players and what does that do for recruiting from now on?
- 41:06Speaker 2: Oh, I'll start with the second part of that question.
- 41:11Speaker 2: You know, anytime you can have such a high-profile player
- 41:15Speaker 2: like that, and Michael, his story, for our listeners that
- 41:18Speaker 2: aren't aware of this, he was a second-rounder out of
- 41:20Speaker 2: high school and said, nope, I'm coming to Kentucky.
- 41:24Speaker 1: Wow.
- 41:24Speaker 2: I'm going to bet on myself. I'm going to bet
- 41:27Speaker 2: on that staff to help get me better, and I'm
- 41:30Speaker 2: better than a second-rounder, which is hard for an 18-year-old
- 41:33Speaker 2: to think. But his confidence, his belief, he comes and
- 41:37Speaker 2: turns himself into a first-rounder, and Michael... I'd be lying
- 41:41Speaker 2: if I didn't tell you at the coach, I felt
- 41:43Speaker 2: that I felt the pressure to try to help develop
- 41:49Speaker 2: him and make him better. And to his credit, he
- 41:54Speaker 2: has just worked and worked and put himself in that position.
- 41:57Speaker 2: And to finally hear his name called was just, just
- 42:01Speaker 2: a beautiful moment because I knew the time and the
- 42:04Speaker 2: effort that it took two years to just not only
- 42:08Speaker 2: help him as a player, but as a person and,
- 42:10Speaker 2: just to watch the family and the celebration. And it
- 42:14Speaker 2: was a really cool thing to be a part of
- 42:16Speaker 2: and see a front and center.
- 42:18Speaker 1: I'm sure it was. Let's talk about the, uh, building
- 42:21Speaker 1: the 2027 roster, nine players from last year's roster, exhausted
- 42:25Speaker 1: their eligibility. How much of this team is new and
- 42:28Speaker 1: how do you build chemistry that fast?
- 42:33Speaker 2: Yep. 37 players on a team and 22 of them
- 42:36Speaker 2: are new for, I think the fourth year in a row,
- 42:40Speaker 2: we have more first year players than we do returners.
- 42:43Speaker 2: And that's just the age in which we live in now.
- 42:47Speaker 2: And for us, Michael, we really truly try to reach
- 42:51Speaker 2: their hearts first. If we can reach their hearts, then
- 42:54Speaker 2: we can reach them. And this generation, they don't care
- 42:57Speaker 2: how much, you know, until they know how much you care.
- 43:00Speaker 2: And we have just first week, they literally step on campus.
- 43:04Speaker 2: My wife and I, we have them at our house
- 43:07Speaker 2: and they're in our home and they're hanging out and
- 43:10Speaker 2: they're swimming on the lake or fishing and they're playing
- 43:13Speaker 2: pickleball in our cul-de-sac. And we're just, we're, we connect.
- 43:17Speaker 2: And then, you know, a week later we take them
- 43:20Speaker 2: swimming and water slides and some more pickleball. And we
- 43:25Speaker 2: just spend time.
- 43:27Speaker 1: I'm always available for this party too.
- 43:34Speaker 2: You know, our, our, just our ability to just spend
- 43:37Speaker 2: time with them off the field has been, um, one
- 43:41Speaker 2: of our key components and we've built tremendous connection. Um, well, we'll,
- 43:47Speaker 2: we'll step in and we're going to do about seven
- 43:49Speaker 2: leadership events with them and sessions with them between now
- 43:54Speaker 2: and when they have finals and, um, We'll do some
- 43:57Speaker 2: peer evaluations where we ask them a series of questions
- 44:00Speaker 2: and they give us feedback on the team themselves, their teammates.
- 44:05Speaker 2: So a lot of intentional details that go into it.
- 44:08Speaker 2: And it's one of the reasons why our team is
- 44:10Speaker 2: so close. And really, quite frankly, we make some really
- 44:13Speaker 2: big jumps from now until the season starts.
- 44:17Speaker 1: You know, let's talk about your first baseman, Hudson Brown.
- 44:21Speaker 1: What are your expectations for him and other returners, not
- 44:25Speaker 1: just him?
- 44:28Speaker 2: You know, Hudson, we had our staff meeting on Monday.
- 44:31Speaker 2: We wrapped up on Sunday and we really broke down
- 44:34Speaker 2: and dove into the fall. We spent two and a
- 44:36Speaker 2: half hours as a staff. And I went through every
- 44:39Speaker 2: player and shared my thought and every player on the
- 44:41Speaker 2: team and up the Brown. I just basically said, guys,
- 44:44Speaker 2: he smashes baseball. I mean, he destroys, like when he's
- 44:52Speaker 2: in a batter's box, you don't want to be a baseball.
- 44:55Speaker 2: You're going to get destroyed. And, uh, But his leadership, Michael,
- 45:00Speaker 2: has been awesome. His leadership, his ability defensively around the
- 45:04Speaker 2: bag has improved. And then a couple other guys, Ethan Hindle,
- 45:08Speaker 2: he's become the leader of our team. The way he
- 45:11Speaker 2: has come back in his fourth year, and a guy
- 45:15Speaker 2: that's been to Omaha, he's one of three guys that
- 45:17Speaker 2: have been to Omaha and returns from that Omaha team.
- 45:20Speaker 2: And his leadership's been phenomenal. And then Jace Tarnish. is
- 45:24Speaker 2: the center fielder who's come back and let our team
- 45:27Speaker 2: at home runs. And he can just play in a
- 45:29Speaker 2: lockdown center field and still 32 bases. I mean, you
- 45:32Speaker 2: start thinking about speed and power and the jump. So
- 45:35Speaker 2: those three guys have done well positionally. And then Ben
- 45:38Speaker 2: Cleaver had a great fall. Didn't have the spring he
- 45:41Speaker 2: wanted last spring, went out this summer and had had
- 45:44Speaker 2: a fantastic summer, had a great fall for us. So
- 45:48Speaker 2: we're definitely counting on him and Nate Harris to, that
- 45:51Speaker 2: carry a big load for us. And they had some
- 45:54Speaker 2: really good solid falls.
- 45:56Speaker 1: Who was your biggest fall surprise? The names that fans
- 45:59Speaker 1: don't know yet. Is there somebody out there you can
- 46:01Speaker 1: think of?
- 46:04Speaker 2: I thought PJ Craig, he's the guy out of the
- 46:07Speaker 2: portal from a writer through over a hundred innings a
- 46:10Speaker 2: year ago was their Friday night starter. He's a guy
- 46:13Speaker 2: that helped Florida in check in the regional last year,
- 46:18Speaker 2: just as competitiveness. his maturity, his edge, his ability to
- 46:22Speaker 2: land four and at times five pitches for a strike.
- 46:27Speaker 2: It was a guy that truly, truly stood out.
- 46:29Speaker 1: P.J.
- 46:29Speaker 2: Craig is the one that the first guy that jumps
- 46:32Speaker 2: to my mind.
- 46:33Speaker 1: I've got a listener that wants to ask a question.
- 46:35Speaker 1: He said, Coach Mangione, when evaluating talent for a pitcher,
- 46:39Speaker 1: do you first look at speed or do you look
- 46:42Speaker 1: more at delivery mechanics?
- 46:47Speaker 2: You know, there's so many metrics now that we have,
- 46:49Speaker 2: and I, I won't bore you with them all, but
- 46:54Speaker 2: velocity is definitely one of them. There is a standard.
- 46:57Speaker 2: I have a, I think our program, the standards is standard,
- 47:01Speaker 2: but like, it's not the only thing, like, for example,
- 47:04Speaker 2: we've brought in a guy where his max fastball was
- 47:07Speaker 2: 91 miles an hour, but it's all speed pitches were unbelievable.
- 47:11Speaker 2: And the movement profile to the fastball worse was spectacular.
- 47:14Speaker 2: And then We got other guys that we're bringing in
- 47:16Speaker 2: that are 95, 96 miles an hour. So velocity is
- 47:20Speaker 2: a component. And then obviously the delivery, we do look
- 47:24Speaker 2: at that because, you know, obviously it's like a car
- 47:28Speaker 2: and it's the engine. And if the engine's not working
- 47:31Speaker 2: or firing properly, then the vehicle's not going to work.
- 47:35Speaker 2: So we do look at that, but velocity, I would
- 47:39Speaker 2: definitely say, is something that we look at before we
- 47:42Speaker 2: do delivery, but they're all definitely important.
- 47:44Speaker 1: If you're just joining us, Coach Nick Mingione's on with us,
- 47:48Speaker 1: University of Kentucky head baseball coach. Nick, I do want
- 47:51Speaker 1: to ask you this. What's the biggest question mark? You
- 47:54Speaker 1: just finished your fall exhibition games. What's the biggest question
- 47:59Speaker 1: mark left heading into winter workouts?
- 48:03Speaker 2: We've got to figure out who's going to be our shortstop.
- 48:05Speaker 2: Obviously we we've been on a run of three amazing
- 48:08Speaker 2: shortstops with obviously last year, Tyler bell the year before
- 48:13Speaker 2: that two years, Grant Smith, two years at Ryan Ritter,
- 48:16Speaker 2: who's in, you know, in the big leagues this year,
- 48:20Speaker 2: we've got to figure out the shortstop position. And then
- 48:22Speaker 2: once we figure that out, I feel like that will
- 48:24Speaker 2: help us with second and third. So we definitely need
- 48:27Speaker 2: to figure that out. And then, you know, the last
- 48:30Speaker 2: piece and every year is this way. It's like, who's
- 48:32Speaker 2: going to be in our starting rotation. and then who's
- 48:35Speaker 2: going to end up being the guy that's going to
- 48:37Speaker 2: be able to close the games out. And all those
- 48:39Speaker 2: things will be answered, hopefully, by February, the first game. But,
- 48:44Speaker 2: you know, sometimes it takes time, and you get into
- 48:46Speaker 2: the season, and things shift as well. But shortstop, starting pitching,
- 48:49Speaker 2: and who's going to be our closer are the three things.
- 48:53Speaker 1: I can't believe I'm saying this, but you just finished
- 48:56Speaker 1: year 10. How much are you still loving being at UK?
- 49:01Speaker 1: You have been there 10 years, and I know you've
- 49:04Speaker 1: loved this job the most. And what has changed the
- 49:08Speaker 1: most about this job since you got here in 2016?
- 49:10Speaker 2: Just all the things that you have to deal with
- 49:17Speaker 2: from an NIL advisor the draft has changed. All of
- 49:24Speaker 2: those things have changed the most. Obviously, when I first
- 49:28Speaker 2: got here, we were at Cliff Hagen Stadium. Now, we
- 49:31Speaker 2: obviously moved into Kentucky Pride Park. But all the things
- 49:35Speaker 2: outside of college athletics. You know, I... did not ever
- 49:40Speaker 2: picture myself handling and trying to deal with all the
- 49:45Speaker 2: money that it takes to get some of these guys. And,
- 49:49Speaker 2: but you know, I've embraced it, Michael. Like if we
- 49:52Speaker 2: want to be great and we want to do what
- 49:54Speaker 2: we do, I have this thing in our program. If
- 49:56Speaker 2: you don't like something, change it. And if you can't
- 49:58Speaker 2: change it, change the way you think about it. So
- 50:01Speaker 2: I've embraced and leaned into all of that and all
- 50:03Speaker 2: the things outside, but Michael, to your point, I love
- 50:07Speaker 2: this place. This is the only place I've ever wanted
- 50:09Speaker 2: to be a head coach. And obviously Mitch Barnhart's a
- 50:13Speaker 2: close to your friend of mine. And now with Jay
- 50:15Speaker 2: coming in and his staff and bring, you know, a
- 50:19Speaker 2: new outlook and a series of things to look at,
- 50:26Speaker 2: it's been great. But my favorite part about Kentucky, Michael,
- 50:29Speaker 2: make no mistake about it. I've said it over and
- 50:32Speaker 2: over to people, amazing people. And I've loved that about Kentucky.
- 50:37Speaker 1: Well, you've always been very kind to my family, and
- 50:40Speaker 1: I'll never forget that, and I'll always appreciate it. Coach Mingione,
- 50:43Speaker 1: I always love having you on. I know you're going
- 50:46Speaker 1: to get us to that next step with a College
- 50:47Speaker 1: World Series championship. I look forward to it, and I
- 50:51Speaker 1: always love seeing you on the field, too. You put
- 50:54Speaker 1: a smile on my face any time I see or
- 50:56Speaker 1: hear you.
- 50:59Speaker 2: Well, I appreciate that, and I hope I do that
- 51:01Speaker 2: for others as well. Listen, when we make it back
- 51:04Speaker 2: out there, you better be there, Michael, and I'm going
- 51:07Speaker 2: to hold you to it.
- 51:07Speaker 1: You got it. Listen, you ever need a motivational speaker,
- 51:10Speaker 1: I'm there for you. But, Coach, great having you on,
- 51:13Speaker 1: my friend.
- 51:16Speaker 2: Oh, thank you for having me. Go Cats.
- 51:18Speaker 1: All right, we'll see you later. All right, we're going
- 51:20Speaker 1: to take a break. That's Coach Nick Mingione. Man, I
- 51:23Speaker 1: love talking to him. We'll talk a little bit after
- 51:25Speaker 1: it because he said something that is really resonating in
- 51:28Speaker 1: my head, and I can't get it out. So stay
- 51:30Speaker 1: right there. Hour two of Just the Cats coming right up.
- 51:33Speaker 2: Let's make a fortune.
- 51:35Speaker 4: Yeah, we ain't got no government loans and no one
- 51:39Speaker 4: sends a.
- 51:40Speaker 2: Check from home. We'll get this. We're just doing what
- 51:43Speaker 2: we want to.
- 51:57Speaker 1: Welcome to Just the Cats with Michael Bennett. All right,
- 52:04Speaker 1: hour number two on this Wednesday. If you want to
- 52:07Speaker 1: join us. You didn't do it up there. Exactly. You
- 52:10Speaker 1: messed me up there. You didn't do it at the
- 52:12Speaker 1: very beginning.
- 52:13Speaker 3: I don't know if you ever said it was Wednesday.
- 52:15Speaker 1: Oh, is that the problem? You may not. I don't know.
- 52:18Speaker 1: I may have just been asleep. I don't know. Well,
- 52:19Speaker 1: a lot of times I'm asleep during this show, but no. Yeah,
- 52:23Speaker 1: you didn't do it. That really kind of threw me
- 52:25Speaker 1: off there. Can I just say right now, I could talk.
- 52:32Speaker 1: There have been coaches that I've really enjoyed talking to
- 52:37Speaker 1: and I feel comfortable with and I feel like I
- 52:39Speaker 1: could do an entire two-hour or three-hour show with them.
- 52:44Speaker 1: And this is not taking away from other coaches, but
- 52:47Speaker 1: this is just complimenting the coaches I really enjoy talking to.
- 52:51Speaker 1: Nick Mingione is probably one of the top of the list.
- 52:54Speaker 1: Craig Skinner is one of those. Will Stein is definitely
- 52:57Speaker 1: one of those. And did I say Kenny Brooks? Nope,
- 53:01Speaker 1: you did now. Yeah, Kenny Brooks. I wasn't going to
- 53:03Speaker 1: let you get away with that. Yeah, no, not at all.
- 53:05Speaker 1: I could talk to them for hours at a time. Now,
- 53:09Speaker 1: I know I left out Mark Pope. That's not a knock.
- 53:13Speaker 1: But I just have an energy, an aura. You name
- 53:19Speaker 1: any kind of complimentary characteristic type of description of these guys,
- 53:26Speaker 1: it's just different with them. And with Nick Mingione, all right,
- 53:32Speaker 1: for instance, you and I were talking during break. You're
- 53:35Speaker 1: going to tell me in just a second.
- 53:36Speaker 3: For what it's worth, this is my favorite part about
- 53:39Speaker 3: coaches being interviewed.
- 53:40Speaker 1: What's that? They're quotes?
- 53:41Speaker 3: They all have these just neat phrases that they use.
- 53:45Speaker 2: Yes.
- 53:45Speaker 1: The one that really stuck with me, I don't know
- 53:48Speaker 1: what he said after it. I had to write it
- 53:50Speaker 1: down because I didn't want to forget it. When I'm
- 53:53Speaker 1: at my best, I can eliminate distractions. And that's a
- 53:58Speaker 1: great one that stuck with me. All right, go ahead.
- 54:00Speaker 1: What was your favorite quote from Nick Mingione?
- 54:03Speaker 3: So I too had to write mine down because it was,
- 54:05Speaker 3: it was that cool and impactful. I thought that I've
- 54:09Speaker 3: never heard of this phrase, but they don't care how much,
- 54:13Speaker 3: you know, Until they know how much you care.
- 54:16Speaker 1: Whoa.
- 54:17Speaker 3: That was like, he said that and my mind was blown.
- 54:21Speaker 3: I was like, what a crazy cool phrase.
- 54:22Speaker 1: Say that one more time. They don't care.
- 54:24Speaker 3: This was talking about integrating the new guys.
- 54:26Speaker 1: Yes.
- 54:27Speaker 3: They don't care how much you know until they know
- 54:30Speaker 3: how much you care.
- 54:31Speaker 1: Wow. That's a great. That is a great line. Yeah.
- 54:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 54:35Speaker 1: Cause it's hard to get those down when you, you know,
- 54:38Speaker 1: cause I'm going through all my notes, make sure I have,
- 54:40Speaker 1: cause I, I, I probably over prepare. I had so
- 54:44Speaker 1: many questions and I, I, I could literally, I could
- 54:49Speaker 1: have him on for the entire two hours and I
- 54:52Speaker 1: still wouldn't get through all my questions.
- 54:54Speaker 3: And he's definitely one of those coaches that would hang
- 54:56Speaker 3: out for two hours.
- 54:57Speaker 1: Oh, absolutely. If I asked him to come on the
- 54:59Speaker 1: entire show, he would. It's, it's probably next summer. I'll
- 55:04Speaker 1: ask him to host for me if I'm out. Because
- 55:08Speaker 1: I think everybody would enjoy having him. I think they
- 55:11Speaker 1: would enjoy. I bet you he would do it. I
- 55:14Speaker 1: bet you Craig Skinner would do it. I bet you
- 55:16Speaker 1: I could even get Kenny Brooks to do it with you.
- 55:18Speaker 1: How much fun would Justin Kalen have if he knew
- 55:23Speaker 1: Kenny Brooks was going to be the host of Just
- 55:25Speaker 1: the Cats? Words can't describe. And it would be just
- 55:27Speaker 1: the two of you. Words cannot describe. I don't know
- 55:30Speaker 1: if you would get a word edgewise. Maybe not. But
- 55:33Speaker 1: I think that would be fun for you. So I
- 55:35Speaker 1: know I listen, listen to him. I could do that
- 55:38Speaker 1: all day. But, uh, uh, anyway, I got, I got
- 55:40Speaker 1: part of your question in John. I couldn't get all
- 55:43Speaker 1: of it. Uh, cause I was running out of time.
- 55:45Speaker 1: You know, we had, we had the hour coming up
- 55:47Speaker 1: and you said I could go a little over it.
- 55:49Speaker 1: I went a little over what you told me to,
- 55:51Speaker 1: but I did the best I could. I thought I was,
- 55:53Speaker 1: I thought it was good. It all worked out. Um,
- 55:54Speaker 1: 48 Hanley texted in and said, did I hear Joe
- 55:59Speaker 1: Montana mentioned in the same breath with Kentucky quarterback? Just checking.
- 56:05Speaker 1: Who's the favorite this morning to win the college football championship?
- 56:10Speaker 1: Let's see. I don't know. I can look that up
- 56:12Speaker 1: real quick. Yeah. Okay. Look it up real quick. Who
- 56:15Speaker 1: do you think it is? If it were me, I
- 56:18Speaker 1: would say one of the two teams that we mentioned earlier,
- 56:20Speaker 1: and it's probably Georgia. It is Georgia.
- 56:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 56:24Speaker 3: Plus 450. Notre Dame's second at plus 475. There is
- 56:28Speaker 3: no way.
- 56:29Speaker 1: I don't get it. There's 0% chance they win the championship. Now,
- 56:33Speaker 1: I don't think it's a tough game playing SMU. If
- 56:35Speaker 1: they win SMU, it does not impress me at all.
- 56:38Speaker 3: I think SMU's tougher than you're giving them credit for.
- 56:40Speaker 1: I think that if Notre Dame is able to beat, well,
- 56:44Speaker 1: where is the Notre Dame game against Miami? Is that
- 56:47Speaker 1: in Miami? I think it's at Notre Dame. Oh, that's worse. Okay.
- 56:51Speaker 1: And see, I'm going to have a hard time respecting
- 56:53Speaker 1: that game, too. But if they make it to the
- 56:56Speaker 1: playoffs and they lose the first or second game, it's like,
- 56:59Speaker 1: told you so. They didn't deserve it.
- 57:01Speaker 3: By the way, if you have faith in your cats,
- 57:03Speaker 3: 100 to 1.
- 57:05Speaker 1: Really?
- 57:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 57:06Speaker 1: To win it all? Yeah.
- 57:08Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 57:09Speaker 1: I don't know. No offense. I love Will Stein.
- 57:13Speaker 3: I love the Kentucky football program.
- 57:15Speaker 1: I don't see it happening. I mean, I'm just, if
- 57:18Speaker 1: they make it to the playoffs, I call it the
- 57:21Speaker 1: most successful season ever in the history of UK football.
- 57:26Speaker 1: I would agree with that.
- 57:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 57:28Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, I I'm sorry for those guys back
- 57:31Speaker 1: in the 1950, whatever it was that beat Oklahoma and,
- 57:35Speaker 1: and they said they were the champions, but, uh, No,
- 57:38Speaker 1: I just, I want it to happen so bad. I
- 57:41Speaker 1: really do. And I want it to continue to happen.
- 57:44Speaker 1: But here's my problem. I want both programs to win.
- 57:47Speaker 1: I want baseball to win. I want volleyball to win.
- 57:50Speaker 1: I want men's and women's basketball to win. I want
- 57:54Speaker 1: football to win. I want everybody doing well. That, to me,
- 57:57Speaker 1: would be a complete program. So, all right, let's talk
- 58:00Speaker 1: about UK and their final warm-up game tonight, 6 o'clock.
- 58:06Speaker 1: At Rep Arena, UK is going to face University of
- 58:10Speaker 1: Central Florida, which is– believe it or– did you– I'm
- 58:13Speaker 1: sure you knew this. I didn't know until just a
- 58:16Speaker 1: few years ago that Central Florida is the largest university
- 58:19Speaker 1: in the state of Florida. Yep, I didn't know that.
- 58:21Speaker 1: Isn't that– I would have sworn up and down it
- 58:23Speaker 1: would have been either University of Florida or Florida State.
- 58:29Speaker 1: Would you? I mean, just thinking logically, you think it's
- 58:32Speaker 1: one of those two schools.
- 58:33Speaker 3: I mean, I can't– See, I've known the fact that
- 58:36Speaker 3: UCF is the biggest school in Florida for too long
- 58:39Speaker 3: to even think about how it could have been Florida State.
- 58:43Speaker 3: Because to me, that's always been common knowledge. I mean,
- 58:46Speaker 3: it is weird to think about, but it's true.
- 58:49Speaker 1: What's their mascot? The Knights. Oh, they're the Knights. Golden Knights, maybe?
- 58:55Speaker 1: I think they are the Golden Knights. They are?
- 58:56Speaker 2: Okay.
- 58:56Speaker 1: All right, then.
- 58:57Speaker 2: Well.
- 58:58Speaker 1: Uh, UK is two and O in their exhibitions. You know,
- 59:00Speaker 1: they beat little rock last Friday night or no, no, no, no.
- 59:04Speaker 1: I'm sorry. They beat Texas tech last Friday night. Little
- 59:06Speaker 1: rock was the first game. And so here's what I think, Justin,
- 59:13Speaker 1: and you correct me if you think I'm wrong. Defense
- 59:15Speaker 1: has been the story so far. Opponents are shooting 36
- 59:20Speaker 1: percent from the field and 20 percent. from three across
- 59:23Speaker 1: both exhibitions. I think that's a key right there, that
- 59:27Speaker 1: UK's defense. And that's one of the things that Mark
- 59:29Speaker 1: Pope has said. One thing he wants to improve drastically
- 59:32Speaker 1: is the defense. I think he succeeded at it. What
- 59:35Speaker 1: do you think?
- 59:36Speaker 3: I'm not reading too much into that just because of,
- 59:39Speaker 3: and this isn't a knock on who you all played,
- 59:42Speaker 3: but the quality of opponents, you probably should be playing
- 59:44Speaker 3: good defense against them. I mean, if Texas Tech has
- 59:48Speaker 3: JT Toppin, I don't know if those numbers are as
- 59:50Speaker 3: good as they are. But your first game was, what,
- 59:53Speaker 3: Little Rock?
- 59:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 59:55Speaker 3: I mean, you should be playing great defense against Little Rock.
- 59:57Speaker 3: Same thing with the game tonight against UCF.
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: But they do have size. I mean, don't discount that
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: Little Rock didn't have size. And Texas Tech, they are
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: ranked higher than Kentucky.
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: I don't want to make it seem like I don't
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: think this is an improved defense, or it can be
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: an improved defense. I have belief in it.
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: Okay, good.
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: But I'm not going to read too much into a preseason. Now,
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: there are things that UK needs to fix. I mean,
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: they went one of 11 from three in the first
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: half against Texas Tech. And then seven and 24 for
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: the entire game. They went five minutes scoreless stretch in
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: the second half. Also let Tech back into the game.
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: That's where that happened last year. And it seems like
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: it's continued to happen into this year.
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: And we cannot.
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: We.
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: Kentucky cannot let that happen. I know exactly. That's why
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: I started. You're right. As soon as I said, we,
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: my dad was always the same way.
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: We really, I think if you're doing a UK centric show,
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: you can say, okay.
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: All right then. Well, I'm not a coach, nor am
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: I a player. But in my mind, I am. They
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: can't continue to let teams come back into games, and
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: they can't continue to have streaks where they go on
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: a cold streak, and they just cannot make any shots.
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: Can't do that. So having this happen in an exhibition
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: game is a little cause for concern. I said a
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: little now, not a gigantic. A little cause for concern. So,
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: you know, last year, UK dominated in the exhibition game,
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: number one, Purdue in its first exhibition, but they turned
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: around and lost to Georgetown. So that didn't happen this year.
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: I'm kind of glad about that. Now, better knock on
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: some wood. Hopefully not. Yes, you're correct.
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: Although a loss to UCF wouldn't be as bad as
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: a loss to Georgetown was last year. You really, you
- 1:01:51Speaker 3: think so? Because UCF's competent every year, at least. Georgetown's not.
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: But yeah, UCF's coming off of a 21-12 season last year,
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: 9-9 in the Big 12, and they made the NCAA tournament. Now,
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: they lost in the NCAA tournament to number seven seed
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: UCLA by 24 points in the first round. So that's
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: not real great. And plus, not only that, this roster
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: for UCF is almost brand new. I mean, they lost
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: each of its top four scores last year. Most notably,
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: Riley Keigel and Themis Fulks. Expectations for UCF, pretty low.
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: The Big 12 coaches... They picked them to finish 13
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: out of 16. So, if UK loses to them tonight,
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: I don't know if that's worse than, or it probably
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: is worse than the Georgetown loss last year. I don't
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: think so. Okay. All right, then. Well, Coach Johnny Dawkins
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: of UCF, 63-year-old, just got a three-year extension. I mean,
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: going to the NCAA and losing in the first round,
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: is that cause for an extension for three years? At UCF, absolutely.
- 1:03:14Speaker 3: It is?
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: All right. D.R. Johnson is the guy to know. It's
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: his second season with UCF. where he played his freshman
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: year at, are you ready for this? He played at
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: Tarleton State. Do you know?
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: Billy G. Exactly.
- 1:03:31Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: Former basketball. So he played for former basketball coach Billy Gillespie.
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: I guarantee he didn't get any better. Oh, my gosh.
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: But he averaged 24 points in 20 games. Did he really? Oh, yeah.
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: That's pretty good. But it's Tarleton State. And A.J. DeBontza.
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: I hope I'm saying it right. The number one pick
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: in the 2026 NBA draft average more.
- 1:03:58Speaker 3: But expect UCF's offense to run through him.
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: And that's that guy. Which one preview said could cut
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: either way. So there you go. But returners are Carmela Pacheco.
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: John Boll, Elijah. John Boll? Yeah, exactly.
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: I thought he retired from news. He went down to
- 1:04:17Speaker 3: UCF to play basketball?
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: He is back playing basketball. And congratulations to him.
- 1:04:23Speaker 3: Giving up the fishing for some basketball. Clearly.
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: Where did he move to, by the way? Wisconsin. That's
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: where he's originally from. Can you imagine moving from Kentucky
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: up to Wisconsin? He loves it. Really?
- 1:04:35Speaker 3: He goes ice fishing all winter. Yeah, he loves Wisconsin.
- 1:04:39Speaker 3: Do you ever watch the movie Grumpy Old Men?
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: I don't think I've seen grumpy. Yeah. Walter Matthau and
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: Jack Lemon. And they're up in Wisconsin. They're ice fishing.
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: I watched them do that. It seems like the most
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: boring thing in the world. It's not fishing. You're just
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: throwing a bait in the hole. Yeah, exactly. Well, I
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: guess they're getting away from their wives because they actually
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: have these houses that they're moving out there. And the
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: other thing I couldn't do, I couldn't drive my car. No.
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: On a lake.
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: No.
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: I would be so nervous I'm going into the water. Yeah, same.
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: I mean, that would be my biggest fear right there.
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: I don't really want to watch grumpy old men. I
- 1:05:19Speaker 3: got to deal with two grumpy old men for an
- 1:05:21Speaker 3: hour every day doing radio.
- 1:05:22Speaker 4: Oh.
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: That's a shout out to John and Tony. Okay, I
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: was going to say it's the next show, isn't it?
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: All right. So the players to watch tonight, Pacheco is
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: mainly the three-point specialist, so watch him. And then John Boll,
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: there you go. And Hulseiwi. I mean, I know I'm
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: butchering his name. His name is Siwi. I'm just Hulseiwi.
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: Speaking of butchering. Hold on, they're both seven-footers, but go ahead.
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: What type of game is this tonight? Six o'clock. No,
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: what type of game? Exhibition.
- 1:05:53Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: There you go. So you're not, well, okay, I get it,
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: but I'm doing my due diligence here. What do you
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: want me to do?
- 1:06:00Speaker 3: No, I only ask you that because Zach texted me.
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: He was like, make him say exhibition. Because he said
- 1:06:05Speaker 3: you said it five different ways.
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: I don't know. Oh, have I really? I don't know
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: if you did or not. Listen, if you're listening to
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: this show, you're going to hear me butcher words my
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: entire time on this show, okay? And it's not changing.
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: I'm doing the best I can. I don't know what's
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: wrong with my brain. It's weird. I realize it. I
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: accept it. My brain is weird.
- 1:06:28Speaker 3: Get ready to watch the game on silent tonight or
- 1:06:31Speaker 3: listen to the radio broadcast.
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: Okay, hold on. Don't get to that yet. Now hold on. Already? Okay, stop.
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: But I do think the part that's going to be
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: interesting is that both, they have two seven-footers, and it's
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: going to be interesting to see how Malachi? Malachi Moreno.
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: You almost said Milwaukee. I know I did. I know it.
- 1:06:54Speaker 4: I did.
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: Milwaukee. God, where did that come from? I speak phonically, okay?
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: But anyway, there we go. There is your whole pre-cap, okay?
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: Not recap, but a pre-cap of the game. So, congratulations.
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: SEC Network, 6 o'clock. Yeah, go ahead. Say it.
- 1:07:14Speaker 3: Get ready to hear about Jimmy's jet.
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: Oh, boy. That old Jimmy Dykes tonight.
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: I like Jimmy Dykes. I know you don't.
- 1:07:21Speaker 3: No, that's the thing. I do like Jimmy Dykes. He's
- 1:07:24Speaker 3: just so freaking repetitive. I don't need to hear about
- 1:07:27Speaker 3: the jet. I just don't.
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I know.
- 1:07:30Speaker 3: Jimmy's jet has ran its course. It's like the whole
- 1:07:33Speaker 3: Liberty Bibberty thing. Get rid of Bibberty.
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: It's ran its course. Oh, my. Okay.
- 1:07:37Speaker 3: Did you know they protested outside of the Liberty headquarters?
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: Who did?
- 1:07:42Speaker 3: Just a bunch of people that are mad about Bibberty.
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: Why is that so bad?
- 1:07:46Speaker 3: They just want it gone. It's annoying as hell.
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: Really?
- 1:07:49Speaker 3: Bibberty.
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: It's horrible.
- 1:07:51Speaker 3: I know.
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: I'm almost to the point now when Liberty makes, when
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: they're up to make the NCAA March Madness, I'm like,
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: please don't let them in. Right. Because it reminds me
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: of Liberty, the insurance company. It's like, I can't stand
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: the Liberty, Liberty, Liberty. But yeah, yeah, that's annoying. But
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: I don't think that's as annoying as the lady that
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: does that, Flo. She drives me more nuts. Oh, that's progressive.
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: I like Flo. No, I don't.
- 1:08:22Speaker 3: Now, her little co-worker, the blonde guy, I don't really care.
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: Much for him. Well, I'm not a fan of hers.
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: So I listen. Flo's all right. Really? Okay. All right, then. Oh,
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: my goodness. We got to take a break.
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: 502-414-1450 if you want to text in. Been a little
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: quiet today, but I'd appreciate your text, so let me know.
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: When we come back, we got to talk a little
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: bit about UK women's basketball because a couple of big
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: things happened for them. We'll talk about that next. And
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: who's going to be the halftime show for the NFL
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: Super Bowl?
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: Are we excited about that? Stay right there. This is Jessica.
- 1:09:39Speaker 4: Leave that smile on your face And don't think about
- 1:09:47Speaker 4: the danger And know that love it will remain.
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: Man, I really like this. I have no idea who
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: this is.
- 1:10:06Speaker 3: I have never heard of this band until this morning.
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. You've got to text me who this is.
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: But tell me right now who it is.
- 1:10:12Speaker 3: The Ike Riley assassination. What? Yeah.
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: Now I want to know who Ike Riley is and
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: why they want to kill him. That's an interesting name
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: right there, but that's a really good song. They got
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: a lot of them. Did you? What do you mean
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: they got a lot of them? A lot of songs. Oh,
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: do they? I thought you meant they got a lot
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: of really good songs, which indicates you've listened to them before. No,
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: I've never.
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: I just told you I've never heard of them. Yeah.
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: That's what I thought you said, but you got a
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: lot of them. I... I am listening, and I know
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: what I'm talking about. And when I say exhibition, I
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: say exhibition the same way, okay? So thank you for
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: texting me that so quickly. But, yeah, Josh making fun
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: of me. And then the fact that he texted you
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: and spelled out the way I've said exhibition. That was Zach. Zach,
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: your brother? Okay, sorry, Josh. Expedition, es-po-bition. Sorry, Josh. Let
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: me apologize first and foremost. Zach, yeah, move on, Zach.
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: I say exhibition. I've said it like four times now. Exhibition.
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: I think you're saying it right. Okay. Because now that's
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: going to really stick in my head. Let's see. 48
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: Handley said, help me out here, gentlemen. Was Kentucky's quarterback
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: at Notre Dame last year? So did he play behind Carr?
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: If so, why did he leave? Yeah, he was there
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: last year. And the reason he left, because he wasn't
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: going to play this year. He wanted to go to
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: a place where he was going to play.
- 1:11:36Speaker 4: And.
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: Will Stein said, come play here. So that's how it
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: all transpired. So am I wrong about that? Nope. Yeah.
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: Sound spot on to me. Okay, good. One person texted in.
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: I almost said texted. Did you get 48 handlies? Next one. Oh,
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: there's another one? Okay, sorry. One of the actors in
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: Grumpy Oldman owned a gray horse who ran in the derby. Oh,
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: my gosh. Best I can remember, he finished third. You're
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: 48 handle. You kill me. I mean, in a very
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: positive way, I've never seen, except for John Ashman, uh, Asher,
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: John Asher knew everything. And I think you could go
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: against John Asher. if he was still living, on Derby Trivia.
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: He'd be a tough one to play Derby Trivia against. Wow.
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: I'll tell you that. Yeah, it was amazing because I
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: would stand there and I would want to talk to John.
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: And John would come up. He knew what was coming.
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: And he's like, okay, give it to me. And I
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: would say 1926. And he would know the Kentucky Derby winner,
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: the owner, trainer, jockey, and then little tidbits about that horse.
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: That's crazy. And it was crazy. I mean, it's just,
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: how do you know that stuff? Cause we're talking, well,
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: at that time it was probably 140 years of the
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: Kentucky Derby. Now we're at 150. Is this 153rd coming
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: up next year? So it's just, it was crazy. The
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: knowledge that some people have on certain things, but yeah,
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: that was, that was pretty good. Let's see here. UK
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: is playing John bowl tonight.
- 1:13:20Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: Yes. That is correct. Hopefully he doesn't pull any tricks
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: playing where he sneaks out of a garbage can for
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: an easy layup. Or wait, not the reporter. I'm being
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: told this guy is 7'2 and probably not able to
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: fit down in the can like Oscar. Yeah, you are correct.
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: They've got two players that are over seven feet tall.
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: So again, this is a really nice little test for
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: UK and Malachi Moreno. Or as I like to say, Milwaukee.
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: By the way, a quick sidebar. Have you seen the
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: logo for Derby 153? Nah, I gotta look it up. Oh,
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: it's so good. It's got a bugle in the middle. Oh, really? Yeah.
- 1:14:04Speaker 3: I don't know how they did that or who came
- 1:14:05Speaker 3: up with the design, but it's really neat. 151 will
- 1:14:09Speaker 3: always be my favorite.
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: I agree right there. 151 is absolutely the greatest.
- 1:14:13Speaker 3: I mean, using the spires, that was really cool. But
- 1:14:16Speaker 3: 53 is good, too. I like it.
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: Oh, I like that. You know, it's kind of a
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: Keeneland-type theme. You know, because Keeneland always has the bugle
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: because they have the guy in the green jacket and
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: top hat. So that, okay. Nice job. Whoever did the
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: logo for Kentucky Derby 153, I'm right there with you. Yeah,
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: that's good. It's almost like if you weren't looking at
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: it real close, it looks like they're marking out 153.
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: But when you look at it close and see the bugle,
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: that's pretty, yeah. Well done, right? Very much so. And
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: it always looks good when it's gold.
- 1:14:51Speaker 3: Yeah, which it has been for, I want to say,
- 1:14:54Speaker 3: the last three or four years at least, right?
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. I think it's one.
- 1:14:58Speaker 3: It was last year.
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: I know that. Yeah, I think it's 1982 is my
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: favorite one as far as derby glasses, if I remember.
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: I think that is it. And it's just simple. It's
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: just the trophy? Yes, it's just the trophy. No, that's
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: not it. Ah, shoot. Maybe it's 1984. I can't remember
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: which one it is. And you're right. It's just the trophy. Nope,
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: that's not it.
- 1:15:28Speaker 3: 84 has the horses running down it. Yeah, and it's
- 1:15:31Speaker 3: not that one. I can't remember which one it was,
- 1:15:33Speaker 3: and I'm not going to take that one.
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: Way to bring it up, Michael. I know. Sorry. But
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: there you go. All right, let's talk about U.K. women's basketball. Yeah.
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: Asia Boone, named to Shooting Guard of the Year preseason
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: watch list. Love it. She accounted for 96 threes last season,
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: which was second most in the SEC and 11th most
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: in the nation. She shot over 36% from beyond the
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: arc last season. And there are 20 players on this list.
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: And along with her, there are four more from just
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: the SEC alone. So there's five players from the SEC
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: there on this list. They include Talasia Cooper from Ole Miss. Uh, Malay, Malaysia,
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: full Wiley. I love the Talasia in Malaysia. Uh, and
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: for Wiley is from LSU. Then you've got Tessa Johnson
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: from South Carolina. I am, um, Michaela Blakes from Vanderbilt.
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: She's going to win. Now, don't say that. She is.
- 1:16:33Speaker 3: I'm helping you avoid heartbreak right now. Mikayla Blakes is
- 1:16:37Speaker 3: going to win.
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: Would you say that in front of Kenny Brooks if
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: he was on the show with us right now? You would?
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: I would.
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: I would suggest that you not do that.
- 1:16:46Speaker 3: It would probably motivate him to get Asia a little
- 1:16:49Speaker 3: bit better. I mean, Asia's great already, but Mikayla Blakes
- 1:16:52Speaker 3: is another level. She's awesome.
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: All right, then. There you go. There's your prediction right there.
- 1:16:57Speaker 3: I'm a big Mikayla Blakes fan.
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: I hope she loses. And probably I'm glad that you
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: did because usually, although you've been right this year, so
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: maybe the jinx has gone back the other way. Maybe so.
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: Because you've picked out every win for UK this year.
- 1:17:10Speaker 3: She averaged 27 points a game last year.
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: Oh, she's not going to be very good this year.
- 1:17:15Speaker 3: And she didn't? I think she had like a 50-point
- 1:17:18Speaker 3: game or a 40-point game.
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: That chick's awesome. Okay. UK at Tennessee down in Knoxville.
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: Game time's been announced for 6.30 on ESPN. 55 points,
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: by the way. You're going back, so you're talking about
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: women's basketball? Go ahead. Okay, yeah. I just wanted to
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: get it out there. All right, then. Here's what I
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: would like to see. This is the one thing I
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: want to suggest to UK and the University of Tennessee.
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: Wouldn't it be fun if they allowed for UK and
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: Tennessee to wear their orange and royal blue uniforms for
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: this game? I mean, it's just like Louisville, Kentucky. Yes. Yeah.
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: Wouldn't that, so, so you would want to see red
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: and blue for the U of L UK game. Absolutely. Yeah.
- 1:18:05Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:18:05Speaker 3: But yeah, orange and blue. That'd be good. Although I
- 1:18:07Speaker 3: feel like, I don't know, a little gross. Cause it
- 1:18:09Speaker 3: looked like Florida out there. That's a fair point. You're
- 1:18:12Speaker 3: exactly right. I think the much better idea is now
- 1:18:16Speaker 3: this isn't going to happen. Because it's in home stadiums.
- 1:18:19Speaker 3: But wouldn't it be fun if this game was neutral
- 1:18:22Speaker 3: and you had Tennessee on half the stadium doing their
- 1:18:25Speaker 3: little checkerboard? And then you had Kentucky on the other
- 1:18:28Speaker 3: side of the stadium doing their checkerboard?
- 1:18:30Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: Wouldn't that be awesome?
- 1:18:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: How soon do you think checkerboards are gone since Mitch
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: Barnhart is gone? Are they still a thing now? Yeah, somewhat.
- 1:18:40Speaker 3: I mean, I haven't seen any on the football jerseys.
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: That's true. You haven't seen them on the jerseys this year. Okay.
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: Maybe things are brewing. But, yeah. I do want to
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: ask you this, though. Paul Feinbaum's... It's uncertain if he's
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: going to be doing his show past his contract.
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: You know, his contract is up. His contract is up
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: in May.
- 1:19:07Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:19:07Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: And he is going to be deciding. He said he's
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: going to decide after the football season whether or not
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: he's going to continue his show. Oh, please, dear God. Really? Please,
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: dear God. Who would take over, though?
- 1:19:20Speaker 3: What if it's someone worse? There is no way it's
- 1:19:23Speaker 3: somebody worse. You don't think so?
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: No. Okay.
- 1:19:26Speaker 3: That dude is so boring. I somebody with just a
- 1:19:32Speaker 3: little bit of energy. I'm just worried they'll give it
- 1:19:34Speaker 3: to Pat McAfee. I mean, they've given him every other
- 1:19:37Speaker 3: hour on ESPN. Might as well give him someone.
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: Really?
- 1:19:40Speaker 3: I would much rather have McAfee than Paul Feinberg.
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: Really? By the way, that whole McAfee thing versus Utah
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: has not died. Did you see where the FBI suggested
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: he wear a bulletproof vest last weekend? I mean, are
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: you kidding me? Come on, man.
- 1:19:55Speaker 3: Because some kids made fun of you. They made fun
- 1:19:58Speaker 3: of you. And at the end of the video, they said,
- 1:20:01Speaker 3: we love you. I really do not understand why that
- 1:20:06Speaker 3: has survived more. I'm disappointed in Pat McAfee that he's
- 1:20:09Speaker 3: that soft.
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: I am too. But he keeps saying, well, the university
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: put this video out. So what? They were just having
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: fun with you. You make fun of people all the time.
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: And the minute somebody makes fun of you back, you
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: lose your mind. Mm-hmm. People make fun of me. My
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: own family makes fun of me every day and I
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: love it. It makes me laugh. But anyway, I just, whatever.
- 1:20:35Speaker 3: I just kind of, I'm over all that.
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: But anyway. Josh said, damn, Michael, I thought we were
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: good friends. I'm out here catching strays and I didn't
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: even do nothing. Sorry about that. I apologize immediately, Josh.
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: And then, oh, here's Zach now. All for a good laugh, Michael.
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: You were so focused on talking stats for the Coyotes
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: that I think you forgot what type of game it
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: was or deviled eggs were on the mind. Oh, listen.
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: If I got deviled eggs, yeah, I'm focusing on deviled
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: eggs only, Zach. Hey, by the way. Yes.
- 1:21:14Speaker 3: I saw a recipe yesterday for hard-boiled eggs, and you
- 1:21:19Speaker 3: make a sandwich out of them.
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: Oh, really?
- 1:21:22Speaker 3: Like a turkey club. Throw a piece of bacon on
- 1:21:25Speaker 3: a piece of turkey, some cheese, and just put it
- 1:21:28Speaker 3: between the egg. How good does that sound? I got
- 1:21:31Speaker 3: to try it.
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: I like eggs on hamburgers. Oh, yeah, me too. Sunny
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: side up?
- 1:21:37Speaker 3: See, I'm getting to the point where I love poached eggs.
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: Have you ever had a poached egg? I don't think so.
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: It's a hard-boiled egg except with the middle part. The
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: yolk is soft. It's more runny. Oh, they're delicious.
- 1:21:52Speaker 3: I don't think I've ever had them. Yeah, I love them. So, yeah,
- 1:21:55Speaker 3: I have a problem with hard-boiled eggs. I do enjoy
- 1:21:58Speaker 3: them too much. So, all right, we got to take
- 1:21:59Speaker 3: our last break.
- 1:22:00Speaker 2: 502-414-1450.
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: You want to text in on the Whiskey Thief text line.
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: Stay right there. More of Just the Cats. Be right back. God,
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: you knocked a home run today with some of this music.
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: Thank you. I've never heard of any of these songs
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: before in my life. Except for the one I picked. Yeah,
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: and I really like them. This is Miles Marley. One
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: thing I forgot to mention a couple of minutes ago
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: about UK women's basketball. Uh, season tickets are sold out
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: for the third straight year. Wow. And you know, what's
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: happened in the last three straight years, it's been all
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: Kenny Brooks. So, I mean, that's the Kenny Brooks effect
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: right there. So congratulations to him and the program for
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: selling three straight years. I mean, that's just great season
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: tickets sold out. So I'm so happy for them. It's
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: not even funny. Uh, let's talk about the, uh, Tampa Bay. Cause, uh,
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: our friend Tony, who's on next with John Spears. When, uh,
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: my favorite had into this building today and I love
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: every second of it. He's got a Tampa Bay Ray hat.
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: Let's talk about, uh, Tampa Bay rays. What a crazy
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: win that was last night. I, I, listen, I thought
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: it was over. You should have. Yeah. And, uh, my
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: buddy JD Shelburne was tweeting out last night. It's over.
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: It's like, thanks a lot, man. But the one thing
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: I found funny, the Milwaukee Brewers, the players talk about
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: how their catcher, William Contreras, they don't want to celebrate
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: with him. You know why?
- 1:24:11Speaker 4: No.
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: His high fives are so forceful that teammates dread them
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: because they hurt so much. Yeah. You've seen it. Yeah.
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: A shortstop, Cooper Pratt, was talking about it. He said
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: he braces himself every time he goes in for one.
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: That's going to create an injury one day.
- 1:24:34Speaker 3: I used to have a teammate in high school that
- 1:24:37Speaker 3: would slap you on your lower back. but he would
- 1:24:41Speaker 3: do it really, really hard to the point that it
- 1:24:44Speaker 3: was extremely painful. So I had to explode on him
- 1:24:47Speaker 3: one day and be like, Hey, don't, don't hit my
- 1:24:49Speaker 3: lower back.
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:24:50Speaker 3: You want to hit my top of my back. That's fine.
- 1:24:53Speaker 3: Or slap me on the rear end. I'm good with that.
- 1:24:55Speaker 3: Do not hit my lower back.
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: I think I would rather be slapped in the face
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: than hit on the lower back. It's so painful. It is.
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: I agree with you. And I think that's miserable. Why
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: are you hitting on the lower back anyway? Most guys
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: hit you on the butt.
- 1:25:10Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:25:11Speaker 3: Which, in high school, I had a juicy rear end,
- 1:25:14Speaker 3: so that would have been much preferred.
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: You ain't hurting that.
- 1:25:18Speaker 3: You didn't just say you had a juicy rear end.
- 1:25:23Speaker 3: Why do you think all the ladies in school would
- 1:25:25Speaker 3: come to the baseball game? And they would all tell
- 1:25:28Speaker 3: you the same. It was to see me run out
- 1:25:29Speaker 3: to left field.
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: I'm telling you. I'm telling you now, we need to
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: drop the whole Scoots nickname. I think you need to
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: be called Juicy. Just to let you know, for now
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: on forever, I am referring to Justin Kalen as Juicy.
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: That is just so gross.
- 1:25:47Speaker 3: The fact that you just admitted you had a juicy
- 1:25:49Speaker 3: rear end just.
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: Blows my mind. I'm self-aware. What do you want from me?
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: You're self-aware? Okay. There you go. You're self-aware. Just saying.
- 1:25:57Speaker 3: If that was a superlative that you could win in
- 1:25:59Speaker 3: high school, I would have easily won it.
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: You got it, Juicy. Whatever you want. New podcast started yesterday.
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: Are you ready for who is hosting this podcast? Like
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: we need another one.
- 1:26:09Speaker 3: But this one actually sounds really good.
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: Let's hear it. It's comedian Elliot Glazer. Have you ever
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: heard of him? No. I do not know who he is.
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: But here's what opened my eyes to this. And I
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: am going to go listen to this episode. It's with
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: comedian Elliot Glazer and Charles Barkley.
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: Oh, no.
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: No? I'm out. All right.
- 1:26:29Speaker 3: Well, hold on.
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: That sounds horrible. Stop. Let me at least describe it.
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: It's called So You Think You Can Sports. And the
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: description is, where sports figures explain their respective sport from
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: scratch to a complete outsider.
- 1:26:48Speaker 3: I kind of like that. So, this Elliott guy is
- 1:26:51Speaker 3: the host. And he's just going to have different athletes
- 1:26:54Speaker 3: come in?
- 1:26:55Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: Along with Charles Barkley.
- 1:26:57Speaker 3: So, Charles will be a part of the show as well?
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: I believe so. I believe that's how it is.
- 1:27:01Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: I'm out. Really? Yeah, I'm out. I don't really.
- 1:27:07Speaker 3: I don't really find Charles Barkley all that entertaining.
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: Oh, come on.
- 1:27:11Speaker 3: Now, when you put him and Shaq in the same room,
- 1:27:13Speaker 3: is that good TV?
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely. Yeah.
- 1:27:16Speaker 3: Charles by himself?
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: No. Co-host is Charles Barkley. When I see them doing
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: that halftime pregame or postgame show with the other guy
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: that always wears the bow tie, I have to listen
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: to that. I think they're hilarious between Charles Barkley and–
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: The big guy. Shaq. Shaquille O'Neal. Yeah. I love them.
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: To me, they're a must-listen TV.
- 1:27:41Speaker 3: See, I enjoy that as well, but take Ernie and
- 1:27:44Speaker 3: Kenny and Shaq away from Charles, and I don't know
- 1:27:47Speaker 3: how good that's actually.
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: Going to be. Really? So you don't think it's interesting
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: to learn different athletes, talk to somebody that knows nothing
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: about your sport, and describe it to them? No, I mean,
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: the content of the- The premise sounds great. Exactly.
- 1:27:59Speaker 3: The content of it sounds like I would enjoy it,
- 1:28:01Speaker 3: but I just- I don't know. I don't know how
- 1:28:03Speaker 3: I feel about Charles.
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: Wow. Okay. I'm looking forward to it. All right.
- 1:28:09Speaker 3: I challenge both of us to listen to the first episode.
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: How's that? You don't have to listen to another one.
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: Do I have a deadline? You don't have time today?
- 1:28:19Speaker 3: Not really, no.
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: Oh, come on. What do you have going on today
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: that you can't go listen to?
- 1:28:24Speaker 3: I have a lot of work to do over at
- 1:28:26Speaker 3: the other station. I've got a remote broadcast this afternoon.
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: You do?
- 1:28:29Speaker 3: I've got to record a show over there.
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: All right, then. Maybe in my drive time, I'll fire it. Okay, Juicy,
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: I got it. But all right, how about we listen
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: to it? and I'll give you till next Monday. All right.
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: And I am going to remind you of this because
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: you're going to forget. Exactly. You need to remind me.
- 1:28:48Speaker 2: I know.
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: But I need somebody to remind me. So who's going
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: to remind me? So because if I tell you to
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: remind me, you're going to forget to remind me. And
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: then none of us are reminded. Exactly.
- 1:28:56Speaker 2: So.
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: All right. Well, we're going to figure a way. I
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: want to listen. Again, it's on Apple and it's on Spotify.
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: And so you think you can sports. I think it
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: has potential. And I'm going to go listen to it.
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: And I want you to at least try just one episode.
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: It's not so much to ask. So you think you
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: can sports? Yeah, sports.
- 1:29:20Speaker 3: Okay. Who's the first guest? Does it say who the
- 1:29:22Speaker 3: first guest is?
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: It doesn't. Let's see. No, it doesn't say who the
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: first guest is. So I don't know.
- 1:29:29Speaker 3: I guess a lot of it will depend on who
- 1:29:31Speaker 3: the guest is, too, if it's anything.
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: Well, that's fair to ask. Okay, it's Becky Lynch, WWE icon.
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: The man. What do you mean, the man? That's her nickname,
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: the man. Oh, it is? Yeah. Okay. So there you go.
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: That's the first one. Okay. I'll check it out. Okay.
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: All right, then.
- 1:29:52Speaker 3: I'm going to help you remember, I promise. Speaking of well-known.
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: Play-by-play or people on the television, what's going on with
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: Joe Buck and Troy Aikman? Is Troy Aikman slowly being
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: told to get out of here? Because you know they
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: signed a new contract with Joe Buck. And everybody's talking
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: about the little bit of friction. I haven't noticed it
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: on the broadcast during games. And I think they're both
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: very professional.
- 1:30:22Speaker 3: Yeah. But people are making a big deal out of this. Apparently,
- 1:30:27Speaker 3: they got into a big screaming match a few weeks ago.
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: Yes. I didn't see it. But, I mean, it's not
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: Joe Buck's fault if he got a contract and Troy
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: Aikman did not. Yeah, but you could see where the
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: jealousy would come in with that, right? Jealousy would come in,
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: but it's not his fault, though.
- 1:30:43Speaker 3: It's not his fault. And he shouldn't... Aikman shouldn't take
- 1:30:47Speaker 3: it out on him, but I agree. I mean, it's, it's,
- 1:30:50Speaker 3: that's kind of human instinct, I guess.
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: Really? Okay. Well, maybe he was just voicing his opinion,
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: not taking it out on Joe Buck, but I don't know.
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: Jerry Jones said, uh, that, uh, he's looking at maybe
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: offering him a, a, a job with the Cowboys. Oh,
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: I don't know what he'd do. You want to lose
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: the rest of your career? Well, they're already losing anyway. No,
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: I mean, they won last week, but yeah. Oh, okay.
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: I got you.
- 1:31:16Speaker 3: If I'm Troy Aikman, I'd rather start a podcast or
- 1:31:19Speaker 3: something instead of coaching the Cowboys.
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: Would you listen to a podcast with Troy Aikman? Probably not. Exactly.
- 1:31:26Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: I think it would be fun if you had certain greats.
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: If you had Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Troy Aikman, Dan Marino,
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: and who's another great quarterback? Joe Montana. How's that? I
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: was going to say Kenny Manning. Or Steve Young.
- 1:31:42Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:31:47Speaker 3: Oh, it's the best line today right there. But, but
- 1:31:50Speaker 3: if you, and Kenny Menchie, yes.
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: Thank you, John. But if you had, would you listen
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: to something like that? If they were like five great
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: quarterbacks and you hear the different stories of them playing
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: against each other or, or, Are certain Super Bowls that
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: you always wanted to know the inside track, what was
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: going on before? Wouldn't you be interested in something like that?
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: Because I think I would be. Maybe a little bit.
- 1:32:14Speaker 3: I guess it depends on what type of stories they're telling.
- 1:32:17Speaker 3: If you're sharing stuff from the locker room or a
- 1:32:20Speaker 3: coach's speech or something, that would be more interesting for
- 1:32:22Speaker 3: me than just hearing a recap of their Super Bowl times.
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: That would all depend on the content. Who was the
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: famous running back from Louisville, Paul? Horning? Horning, yeah. He
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: used to have, back in the 90s, a TV show
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: here in Louisville. And when he would invite his former
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: teammates or former players that were back in the day
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: in the NFL, playing in the NFL, I loved every
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: second of those. And to me, it was fascinating to
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: hear what was going through their minds playing. And they
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: would all have all kinds of inside stories from locker
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: room talk. I loved it. I just think that would
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: be a fun. I guess you wouldn't. But anyway, you're
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: hinting something to me. We got to go. Oh, well.
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: All right, then.
- 1:33:05Speaker 3: That podcast is all you.
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: I'm out. Scoots, don't wear the Victoria's Secret juicy pants, please.
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: I refuse to participate in juicy. Maybe moist. Will from
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: South Central saw the HBO documentary about Dennis Miller being
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: on Monday Night Football, and Miller never spoke to Al
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: Michaels again when Miller and Dan Fouts got dropped and
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: Michaels got extended.
- 1:33:25Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: Okay. We'll let you go. Everybody, I appreciate you listening.
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: We'll talk to you tomorrow on Just the Cats.
- 1:33:32Speaker 4: All those nights we thought were true.
