- 0:05You. And I should be particularly
- 0:07glad to be a Bible study tonight because as we open our Bibles to
- 0:11second Samuel chapter 7, we are tuning into a portion of
- 0:17scripture that is one of the most significant chapters in the
- 0:21Old Testament. And so that should thrill us
- 0:25because we are going to explore in detail.
- 0:27Why that is the case, why is this one of the most important
- 0:31Monumental history, shaping text that God has provided Us in the
- 0:36revelation of his word and so you their second Samuel chapter
- 0:40seven, I'm not going to read the entire chapter and we're not
- 0:44going to cover this entire chapter tonight.
- 0:46I'm actually going to read the first three verses before I ask
- 0:50you what you see because the rest of the verses the remaining
- 0:53of the chapter is pretty straightforward and and I want
- 0:57us to be able to take our time with this.
- 0:59So we're not going to just cover the first three verses I'm going
- 1:02to read the three verses and then from there we will take
- 1:05adverse my verse together and so our brother just prayed but I
- 1:09want us to just pray one more time.
- 1:10I don't want to rush into this. Really want us to take our time
- 1:13in the presence of God. Lord, we thank you for this
- 1:19text. We thank you that it has
- 1:21something to say to us that it has something to say about the
- 1:25gospel that we love and cherish and have been saved by and Lord
- 1:29in this session, we pray that the anointing of the holy spirit
- 1:33that is promised us in 1st. John would be an operation that
- 1:38we would be taught by the spirit of God and that we would be able
- 1:41to discern what is the will of God.
- 1:44And that we would reject anything that we've believed
- 1:46beforehand. That is not Alignment to the
- 1:48truth. And Lord made these truths warm,
- 1:51our affections. May they elevate our thoughts of
- 1:54Jesus, may they rescue us from sin and difference lukewarmness
- 1:58and they put us exactly where you want us to be.
- 2:01And that is in your perfect will though.
- 2:03We love you and we honor you tonight in Jesus name we pray.
- 2:07Amen. It's no exaggeration for us to
- 2:11say that this tax paints for us. The dawn of a new era, it is so
- 2:17crucial to understand. Because from this point forward
- 2:20from second, Samuel chapter seven, moving forward, many of
- 2:24the Prophecies of the prophets will rely on this Revelation and
- 2:29build on that, revelation will find it in the songs will find
- 2:32it in the Minor Prophets. The Major Prophets, this is
- 2:36huge, this is absolutely massive.
- 2:38Of and more than that, it is absolutely necessary to
- 2:42understand what is about to take place as a Christian as a
- 2:47Christian. What you and I are going to see
- 2:49is what is often referenced as the davidic Covenant.
- 2:53A covenant that God himself makes with David and his lineage
- 2:57and his future descendants which Which is so crucial and
- 3:04connection to so many facets of our faith, namely understanding
- 3:08the person and work of Jesus Christ but not limited to that.
- 3:11It's important to understand a level of who the church is, what
- 3:14the church does. It's important to understand
- 3:17eschatology a fancy way of saying the doctrine of the last
- 3:20days. What is here before us touches
- 3:23so many nerves of what you and I hold two deer in our hearts as
- 3:27New Covenant followers of Jesus Christ, who is our Messiah.
- 3:31So, this isn't just a history lesson.
- 3:33This is, this is deep, this is something that is Has been
- 3:38fulfilled, is in a way, being fulfilled and one day, we'll
- 3:42know, complete fulfillment. So again, we're not looking into
- 3:47the past when we were looking at how this applies to today and
- 3:50what we are looking forward to tomorrow, this is incredible.
- 3:54You and I are actually looking at a text that very much applies
- 3:58to us today and for the Church of tomorrow, I actually believe
- 4:02that. If you don't understand the
- 4:03davidic Covenant, you can't really understand the New
- 4:05Testament. You can't.
- 4:08Many of those things will make sense.
- 4:09You won't you won't understand. Matthew chapter 21.
- 4:12You won't understand people saying, son of David.
- 4:14Have mercy on me. It won't make it just just go
- 4:16over your head. But when you understand this
- 4:19Foundation, as a reference point, it all makes sense at all
- 4:22comes together. And you understand what the
- 4:25immediate audience would have felt in realize when Jesus
- 4:28Christ stepped into into the world and our world.
- 4:33So we're going to realize how important this is.
- 4:35We're going to realize to some degree, not exhaustively of why
- 4:38this is so crucial to understanding our faith in
- 4:40Christ. But we're going to be patient
- 4:42with the process and and just go along with the thought process
- 4:45here of the holy spirit's leading and verse 1.
- 4:50Now when the king lived in his house and the Lord had given
- 4:54them rest, from all his surrounding enemies, the king
- 4:58said to Nathan the prophet. See now, I dwell in a house of
- 5:03Peter, but the Ark of God dwells in a tent And Nathan said to the
- 5:09king, go do all that is in your heart for the Lord.
- 5:15Is with you. We almost want to say.
- 5:18Okay, thank you for that introduction but let's get to
- 5:20the meat. There's meat in here, there's
- 5:23something to chew on, there's something to digest revisit
- 5:26those verses. Again, we've been doing this in
- 5:28the past few weeks. Look at those verses again, is
- 5:30there anything that stands out to you anything that you think
- 5:32is worth meditating on or at least considering Okay, so is
- 5:43this the right time for this massive project to take place
- 5:47for a permanent home to be constructed for the Ark of God,
- 5:51for the presence of God dwelling on Earth will find out what God
- 5:55says to it anything else? God is dwelling in a tent and
- 6:01whereas David dwelling and a palace, what does that reveal
- 6:05about? David's heart.
- 6:07That's important to consider anything else.
- 6:10Yes. Okay.
- 6:15So Nathan is mentioned and he's introduced us for the first time
- 6:19in the scriptures. So that is a worthy observation.
- 6:22Yes. The Lord verse one had given
- 6:29him. Rest from all his surrounding
- 6:31enemies. Amen.
- 6:32Yes, very good observation. What else?
- 6:38It doesn't seem like we're working with much.
- 6:41But put some pieces together and we're going to do that in a
- 6:43moment. But let's just just wait to see
- 6:45if anybody else has any other observations.
- 7:04Okay. So there's a are you saying
- 7:06there's a relationship between God being in their midst and
- 7:08then being able to do more because he's there?
- 7:11Okay. Yeah I think there's something
- 7:13there. Anything else?
- 7:22Let's look at verse one, shall we?
- 7:24Now when the king lived in his house and the Lord had given
- 7:28them rest, from all his surrounding enemies.
- 7:32Verse 2, we get a connect. These two verses.
- 7:34The king said to Nathan the prophet.
- 7:36See now, I dwell in a house of Cedar, but the Ark of God dwells
- 7:40in a tent, it is not a small detail that we are being
- 7:43informed. How David is now enjoying a
- 7:47period of rest from his enemies. God is increased.
- 7:50His status got his increased, his success to the point where
- 7:54it is for a brief moment of time, silenced his enemies and
- 8:00so he is now on a place of great Prosperity, great power and it
- 8:05is in that context where we are given a revelation of the
- 8:10deepest, yearnings and longings of his heart.
- 8:15In that place where he has been so exalted and a place where he
- 8:19is receiving recognition, even from surrounding Nations, that
- 8:24there is a supernatural Grace behind his rule, his Reign, it
- 8:28is in that kind of a world where his thoughts are not even
- 8:32consumed with that at all. He is considered, he is
- 8:36contemplating where he is in comparison to where God's
- 8:41symbolic presence is now that is significant, but because of her
- 8:45You something about this man David early on?
- 8:47We are seeing that he is a different, kind of man and how
- 8:52is he different? Because when a person is
- 8:55promoted when a person enjoys a level of Authority honor.
- 9:04Success has a reputation of expelling.
- 9:06Our thoughts of God. Not exalting them.
- 9:10Its more common for the average person to be swept away into the
- 9:15ocean of selfishness by the tides of affluence and
- 9:18ascendancy, right? But David was not that kind of a
- 9:22person. I mean you stick him in a field
- 9:24as a teenager to be the manager of his father's sheep and he has
- 9:29a worshipful heart, put him in a palace surrounded with pillars
- 9:33of stone and he's still a worshiper of God.
- 9:36He was never polluted At least up to this point he was not
- 9:40deterred. He was not directed into a place
- 9:42of the flesh. His he was so grounded in this
- 9:46conviction that I want to abound more and more in loving God.
- 9:52And in no matter what period, of his young life you find him.
- 9:55Yes he struggled. Yes, he tempted but deep down
- 9:57inside he really hungered after God, he really longed after God.
- 10:04and that should, that should ask us that should cause us to
- 10:06reflect In this house, as members of God's house.
- 10:12Do I do? I reflect that?
- 10:15Someone cleverly said it's not just suffering that reveals
- 10:18what's in us. It's also success.
- 10:21Success has the ability to really show us who we are.
- 10:25And really unfortunately, in my own life, I've observed that it
- 10:28doesn't take much for Christians to be deterred and their
- 10:34devotion for God. I mean all it takes is a little
- 10:36acquisition of property. All it takes us to meet
- 10:40potential romantic partner and and their focus on God, their
- 10:45Zeal for God waivers. So I want to challenge you that
- 10:49as you advance in life, let that only Advance you to be more
- 10:53committed and prayerful about how you can honor God in this
- 10:57new context. And just let these the things of
- 11:01this life bounce off, you can rejoice in it, you can thank God
- 11:04for it but never let it dampen. What God wants to ultimately see
- 11:09in you what you see here. Is this man who has this primary
- 11:12passion for God. And it wasn't just like he
- 11:17thought about God and he gave God, the bare minimum, I mean,
- 11:19he had this desire that God would be above everything else,
- 11:25even even above his luxury and his Comforts.
- 11:27He could not sit comfortably with the realization that he as
- 11:31a mere mortal. As a creature is in this Palace
- 11:34and where God is, is behind a few curtains that Disturbed him
- 11:39That Disturbed him. Because in his mind, it wasn't
- 11:42about My Little Empire and then just dishing some crumbs to the
- 11:45Lord. It was everything orbits around
- 11:48the Lord. And so that's how he was so
- 11:51anchored, everything no matter where he went.
- 11:53It always came back to that the gravitational pull of his love
- 11:56for God. Always kept him centered on
- 11:59that. And that is something to admire
- 12:02that is something to rejoice and that is something to say, Lord,
- 12:04I need that to be done in me and, you know, David could have
- 12:06sued his own soul to advance in Greater personal projects by
- 12:10Reminiscing on the past. You know, I was the one who
- 12:13thought about bringing the ark into the capital.
- 12:16Nobody else thought about that. Saul didn't do it.
- 12:19I'm the one who did it. The guy was never stagnant in
- 12:23his service to God. He didn't just rely on the past.
- 12:26He always looked forward to the future with joy, with the light
- 12:29with desire. I Lord That I'm here.
- 12:31What else can I do for you? What else can I do for you?
- 12:34Now and this place with these Resources, with this level of
- 12:37Grace, that has been given to me.
- 12:39Now, what how many in God's house today can confidently say
- 12:45that their passions aligned with David's It's very rare and
- 12:49that's unfortunate because it is available to us, by the help of
- 12:53the Holy Spirit prioritizing, the glory of God, more than your
- 12:57own little Paradise. More than that Dave is all he.
- 13:03I can just imagine him sitting at the edge of his throne with
- 13:06his hand on his chin mija now this isn't right and just the
- 13:10dreams and the longings and they are always knowing and asking
- 13:14and seeking oh God. How can I glorify you more now?
- 13:18How can I glorify you more? So you see as this man is
- 13:21growing, as this man is graduating, so is his love for
- 13:24the Lord, but why is it the opposite for so many Christians?
- 13:27Why is it a descending thing for so many Believers?
- 13:30Why is it the common thing again as people get families and as
- 13:34they get children, as they get promotions and as they move to
- 13:37their dream home, whatever the case may be, it's like as
- 13:40though, the more God gives them in life.
- 13:42The less they give back to God and not talk about money.
- 13:44I'm talking about your time, your affections, your luck.
- 13:46Why is that? I never understood that because
- 13:49the Bible presents a different trajectory.
- 13:53And if this man can have it in the old Covenant, how much more
- 13:55if we are infused with the spirit of God and a greater
- 13:58Covenant than the old, don't settle for less.
- 14:01Look at this man and a time where he's been given rest from
- 14:03the Lord, his heart was in a holy way.
- 14:06Restless, all Lord, I Want To Worship You.
- 14:10I want people to, I want you to be magnified your name to be
- 14:13blessed. What can I do?
- 14:15I love this man, and we looked here, that David and verse 2
- 14:21does not keep these things private The king said to Nathan
- 14:26the prophet. See now I dwell in a house of
- 14:29Cedar but the Ark of God dwells in a tent What does that reveal
- 14:35to you? Let me give you a little hint of
- 14:38a little interpretational hint often times whenever the Bible
- 14:43introduces to us, someone for the first time.
- 14:48The things connected to that introduction, tend to reveal
- 14:52foundational aspects of that individual's character.
- 14:57So when somebody comes up with a first for the first time with
- 15:00their name and oftentimes, you see an action or recorded words,
- 15:05that introduction of the individual and what is revealed
- 15:08about them says something about their innate personality or
- 15:13attitude or character. And so, for the first time in
- 15:19the scriptures, the prophet Nathan appears on the scene, And
- 15:25what I see here before we get to Nathan is, is how David felt
- 15:30comfortable enough to expose his heavenward desires with this
- 15:35man. It was able to, to share his
- 15:38enthusiasm with this person named Nathan.
- 15:43You can tell that even the way he says it, he's in
- 15:45contemplation. But he's almost like speaking.
- 15:47His mind and the presence of Nathan.
- 15:51I'll see now like this isn't right, Nathan, I don't get it.
- 15:54I'm here. How beautiful this place.
- 15:56Look how Majestic it is and I look out the window.
- 15:59Look where God is, look at that. I mean the tents can can blow
- 16:02over the. The curtains are just Doesn't he
- 16:06deserve something more? This is how he's talking to this
- 16:09man, Nathan And I believe that says something about Nathan
- 16:14because look how Nathan answers and verse 3.
- 16:16Nathan said to the king go do all that is in your heart for
- 16:22the Lord is with you. What does that tell you about
- 16:26Nathan? Just from that one sentence.
- 16:28What do you think that says something about the man?
- 16:32Any idea. He is an encourager.
- 16:39The main takeaway I have from Nathan In This Moment, is that
- 16:43he was able one. To not just be in the presence
- 16:47of David, a very spiritual man but he clearly was able to share
- 16:51in his Joy. David was a Discerning Man.
- 16:54David was a Godly Man. David who is Godly?
- 16:57David who wasn't Godly and I believe her David to be able to
- 17:00communicate this to this individual shows that David knew
- 17:04that they were they were on the same level.
- 17:06Your they were equally yoked And then Nathan was not just a
- 17:10person who understood those stirrings of the heart himself,
- 17:14but he was, he was able and hope more than willing to encourage
- 17:18David to walk in them. Himself, go for it, man.
- 17:21Is that on your heart? Go for, I Champion that I'm
- 17:26supportive of that. And when I look at Nathan's life
- 17:31here, I think of a principle that I've used before.
- 17:34I've said it many times and I'll say it again today because we're
- 17:37creatures of repetition listen to this.
- 17:40You and I in this life, Have friends.
- 17:46You can categorize those friends in many ways, I categorize over
- 17:48my own life according to the Bible, in two different ways.
- 17:52The first is that you have friends who will either help you
- 17:55fight your Temptation or you will have friends who will help
- 17:59you fuel your temptation. That's it.
- 18:04They were either fight. Help you fight the Temptation or
- 18:08they will be friends, who fuel your Temptation, let me put it
- 18:10in another way you. And I in this life will have
- 18:12friends who either Direct our Godly aspirations or they will
- 18:20dampen them. They were either direct them.
- 18:24Or they will dampen them with their worldliness and their
- 18:26indifference. And you have to ask yourself.
- 18:33The people in my network, where do they fall into that category?
- 18:39It's one or the other, because in the same way, there's no
- 18:41neutral in your walk with the Lord, you're either going
- 18:45forward or you're going backward.
- 18:46And when you think you're not moving anywhere, you actually
- 18:48moving backward, just remember that you're either moving
- 18:50forward, or you moving backward. And the moments where you think
- 18:54that you're just like, stagnant, you're actually numb and you're
- 18:57slipping backward, you're not realizing it.
- 19:00In the same way, the people in my life, they are either going
- 19:04to help me grow my Godly aspirations or they will
- 19:07actually weaken them. And in this case, Nathan was a
- 19:12man who knew how to stir and spur on the faith of this friend
- 19:17of his who showed a spark, he showed a spark of this Godly
- 19:22aspiration. I want to do more for God and he
- 19:25breathed life into it. Listen, what a blessing, it is
- 19:31to have people in our Lives who excite our faithfulness for God,
- 19:35and what a curse it is. To be comfortable in the crowd
- 19:39of people who do not have a zest for Spiritual things.
- 19:45We do not have a zest for Spiritual things.
- 19:50So understand what I'm trying to say here.
- 19:51I'm going to say it again. The people in your life.
- 19:55Do they stir you on to Godliness?
- 19:58Or do they? They try to remove that Wick
- 20:05that wants to burn out for God. And if you don't think that's a
- 20:08serious thing. Oh, I'm telling you.
- 20:10It is a serious thing. It has really brought so many
- 20:14potential men and women of God down.
- 20:19And I don't want that to happen to you.
- 20:21You look at this man and you see that he had a fellowship with
- 20:24someone who was, who is in tune with God.
- 20:27And if you have a person in your life, listen, even if it's one
- 20:31person because I know there are two fine.
- 20:33If you even have one person in your life where you can, you
- 20:35know, that you can call up and open your heart up about your
- 20:40dreams or your discoveries about God.
- 20:44And you know that you can open up to them because they have
- 20:46that same Delight. You're a very rich man you are
- 20:51very very rich woman. And if you feel like you lack
- 20:56that quality of friendship, believe that God can provide
- 21:00such a person. He can provide that kind of
- 21:03person. He could providentially lead
- 21:05your steps that individual, hey, wake up, listen to this, don't
- 21:11settle for cheap fellowship with Christians.
- 21:15Listen, who get who come to life when you bring up anything in
- 21:19this world. But our awkward when you bring
- 21:21up deep spiritual things in God. Huh.
- 21:24You know, those people, I've been in many of those situations
- 21:28their church. People, you're in the group
- 21:29setting, you bring up the things of God and they look at you like
- 21:31dear staring into the headlights.
- 21:34You can bring up any other topic and they're skilled in it and
- 21:37they're excited about it. Bring up the Deep things of God
- 21:40and it looks like you said something about their mother or
- 21:42something like you insulted them.
- 21:44They're like offended by the fact that you were Christian
- 21:46would dare to bring up spiritual things that you've discovered in
- 21:49the word, in your personal. Walk with the lord, it's really
- 21:52sad but don't settle for that. David had a standard for his his
- 21:58companionship. He did in Psalm 119 verse 63, he
- 22:02says I am a companion. Can anybody finish a verse?
- 22:08I am a companion of what? I am a companion of what of
- 22:15those who fear you and who keep your precepts.
- 22:21I am a companion of those who fear you and who keep your
- 22:25precepts. You know, David standard our
- 22:26friendship was. Do you fear God?
- 22:31No, I'll say hi to you and your nice person.
- 22:33I asked you how you do not work but my who I unite myself with
- 22:38are people who walk in a Perpetual sense of God's
- 22:42omnipresence omnipotence omniscience, I'm fully aware of
- 22:48who God is and I walk in the theorem we can be friends.
- 22:52We can be friends. Nathan was not concerned here.
- 22:59As he's about to share his heart back with David.
- 23:04He was not concerned about anything else about God himself.
- 23:06He was, he was, he was a prophet.
- 23:08Yes. But he was a righteous Prophet
- 23:09just because you're a prophet doesn't mean much.
- 23:13Now, see what happens in verse 4.
- 23:16But that same night, the word of the Lord came to Nathan.
- 23:20Go and tell my servant David thus says the Lord, would you
- 23:24build me a house to dwell in? So, what's happening here?
- 23:30So Nathan has this meeting with with David.
- 23:32He goes back home and that very same night, the Lord speaks to
- 23:37the prophet. He says go back to David and
- 23:42tell David that he's not going to build my house.
- 23:47And so here's what's amazing here that the quality of David's
- 23:51friendships was not just because he had mutually shared Divine
- 23:56Delights. The quality of his friendship
- 23:58includes the safety that he experienced from those who love
- 24:02God's word enough to speak it into your life.
- 24:07Especially when you need it to be corrected.
- 24:10And that's exactly what's happening with Nathan.
- 24:12Nathan shares. His I believe his personal
- 24:14opinion at this moment. He didn't inquire of God, maybe
- 24:17didn't feel like he needed to maybe he thought that this was
- 24:19so good. Why would you even need to ask
- 24:21God? So he just says, go for it.
- 24:22You have my support. God says, Nathan.
- 24:25Go back and tell him that he can't do it.
- 24:30And Nathan is going to turn back.
- 24:31He does, he doesn't wait. He's immediate with his
- 24:33obedience and he was not concerned of whether or not what
- 24:37he said, beforehand was right or wrong.
- 24:39He learned the will of God and upon that fresh Revelation.
- 24:43He goes before David again, and he wasn't worried, whether or
- 24:47not he was going to disappoint David or anger David.
- 24:49Hey, David? I love you.
- 24:51I love what God is doing in you, but God told me to tell you.
- 24:54You ain't the guy. You're not going to be the
- 24:57person. and when I thought about Nathan's life, at that point, I
- 25:02stopped and I leaned back and I said Nathan If you think about
- 25:08every instance, where Nathan and David shared a moment together,
- 25:12there's a consistent theme. There is a consistent theme with
- 25:15their interaction. There's a total of three times
- 25:19where you see, David and Nathan together.
- 25:22And if you actually think about it, each time show, something
- 25:26about Nathan. And the kind of person he was in
- 25:30terms of relationship with a brother.
- 25:33When's the next time David and Nathan are going to bump into
- 25:35each other? Bathsheba second, Samuel chapter
- 25:3912. What is Nathan do?
- 25:44You're the man. You're the men.
- 25:47He needs supposes the sin that David tried to hide and his
- 25:51adultery and in his murder. When's the next time you see
- 25:54David and Nathan together, There's another time that's a
- 26:00different profit, but good guess.
- 26:03When's the next time. 1st Kings, where at his deathbed good and
- 26:14what's happening at his Deathbed?
- 26:23Very good who is going to succeed, David as king.
- 26:27And somebody, one of his sons are already plotting, something.
- 26:29What's his name? Do you remember?
- 26:32No, not have some another one with the name of a letter, A
- 26:35adonijah. I didn't I just already plotting
- 26:37to usurp the next king, who is supposed to be Solomon.
- 26:43So the prophet comes and he initiates a quick move for
- 26:48Solomon to be rightly ordained an anointed before adonijah
- 26:52creates a mess. So he was the one that stirred
- 26:55up David to consider what has happened.
- 26:57He got Bathsheba involved and they made this whole plan to get
- 27:01solid. And on that Throne.
- 27:04So the three times where you see Nathan with David, what do you
- 27:06see? He, he corrects him here, he
- 27:10rebukes him in the next scene and then the last one, he tries
- 27:14to direct them to make the right decision.
- 27:16And every single instance Nathan is holding, David accountable.
- 27:20Every single time. Get a friend like that.
- 27:26Yeah, get a friend who loves God's word and God's honor so
- 27:31much that they're willing to speak into your life in order.
- 27:33You walk in honor of God and all things that's the kind of
- 27:37prophet Nathan was. He didn't shy, he wasn't hanging
- 27:40out, I want to make this awkward.
- 27:41Maybe it's not a big deal when he saw something concerning he
- 27:44spoke up when the Lord revealed something, and we have it
- 27:47according to his word and it didn't line up with his friends
- 27:50way of life. He said something, he said
- 27:53something. These days, we want to be liked
- 27:56by everybody and we don't want to be seen as self-righteous.
- 27:58Well don't do it in a self-righteous way, but if you
- 28:01really love somebody, you will say something as hard as it is,
- 28:05and Nathan was such a man. I don't think it was just
- 28:07because he was a prophet, but because he was a friend to
- 28:10David, you look at profits in the the prophetic books.
- 28:13Many of them didn't correct, their kings, many of them
- 28:16incorrect. The people of God because they
- 28:17wanted their affection, they wanted their admiration, forget
- 28:21it. This man looked at his friend
- 28:23and he says, Hey, look, God told me to tell you this, hey, look,
- 28:27you can't be holding onto your sin.
- 28:28Hey, look, David. You're becoming to relax here.
- 28:31You're not Discerning, the situation.
- 28:33Solomon needs to be king at a night, just trying to take over.
- 28:36That is the kind of friend this man was and II believe that it
- 28:41made such an impression on David that he made this subtle
- 28:44decision in honor of him, you want to see what he did.
- 28:47I believe you might disagree but I think it's a nice thought.
- 28:51It's in first Chronicles chapter 3.
- 28:54I don't want you to see this because I think this is The
- 28:58timing of his quite amazing. The first Chronicles 3.
- 29:03We read about David's children and when you come to verse 5,
- 29:08you read the children that he had with Bathsheba.
- 29:16First Chronicles 35. These were born to him in
- 29:20Jerusalem, David, shamaya show Bob who Nathan?
- 29:27Nathan. and Solomon for by Bathsheba the daughter of Emil
- 29:34and makes you wonder if after having children with Bathsheba
- 29:41that David Held, such Nathan to high regard because of his
- 29:46Integrity that he names one of his own Nathan, Oh, I hope that
- 29:51my son would be like my friend, the prophet Nathan.
- 29:57Who loves God's word, more than anything else?
- 29:59Who's willing to speak up? No matter who stands before him,
- 30:02that's the kind of man. I want my son to be It's an
- 30:06interesting thought. Let's come back to our main
- 30:08text. Look at verse 5 go and tell my
- 30:14servant David thus says the Lord, would you build me a house
- 30:17to dwell in and if you look earlier, when did this happen
- 30:20next week? Or did it happen?
- 30:23The same night, having the same night?
- 30:27You know what I love about the Lord.
- 30:29The Lord, when he sees someone who truly has a heart after God,
- 30:33who truly wants to honor, God is very protective of where you
- 30:39move in life. You see what I'm saying?
- 30:43Here is one of the blessings that you have, I'm sorry.
- 30:45It's not for you. If you're worldly and you want
- 30:48to live lukewarm and want to be just a nominal Christian, but
- 30:50for the person who lives for the glory of God, this is one of the
- 30:54inheritance of you have. I believe the Lord was so quick
- 30:57to make sure that David didn't make an error and he was he was
- 31:01willing to guide and yes, through a prophet.
- 31:03But I believe that is a promise in Providence.
- 31:06God will guide your steps, you know, if you're truly a lover of
- 31:10God, you don't have to A fear about being led into the wrong
- 31:12direction in life. You don't have to fear, you can
- 31:16trust the Lord that he will find a way to communicate to you,
- 31:20exactly where you need to be and what you need to do, as long as
- 31:23your heart is set on glorifying him, that is your inheritance
- 31:27for this life. Verse 5, he says, would you
- 31:31build me a house to dwell in? That's a rhetorical question and
- 31:34in that question is actually a statement.
- 31:36And if you doubt what I'm about to say, all you have to do is go
- 31:39to the paralleling accounted First Chronicles 17.
- 31:42And he says it plainly What the Lord is saying here David, you
- 31:47are not going to build for me a house.
- 31:51You're not going to build for me a house.
- 31:55And when you look at that, you would think maybe that this
- 31:57would disappoint the man of God that this was hurt the man of
- 32:00God. Especially because the Navy, the
- 32:03prophet, Nathan doesn't give him any reason for it.
- 32:06He doesn't tell him necessarily why you won't be able to do it.
- 32:10That comes later on, David will Discover It much much later to
- 32:14why it is that his hands were not be the direct contribution
- 32:17to this marvelous idea. But for now the answer comes and
- 32:23the answer is it's not going to happen from you and it's not
- 32:26going to happen in your lifetime.
- 32:29I believe in that is one of the most important lessons for the
- 32:33eager servant of God, because if you understand what I'm about to
- 32:35say, it will save you from a lot of confusion and frustration in
- 32:40life. Was David's desire here selfish
- 32:44or was it God glorifying? God glorifying, was there
- 32:47anything in it for him? No.
- 32:50In fact God is going to actually if you think that he had mixed
- 32:52motives later on in First Kings we are told that he had a noble
- 32:57desire. He actually says to David and
- 32:59chapter 8. He says, what was in your heart?
- 33:03You did well for having it in your heart.
- 33:06So, this, this isn't because David had an ulterior motive
- 33:10here and he wanted to do something for his Of no.
- 33:12No. This was completely honorable
- 33:15unto God completely pure and yet just because it's righteous just
- 33:21because it's commendable just because it's praiseworthy.
- 33:23Just because it is God, glorifying does not mean that
- 33:27God is obliged to give us what we're requesting.
- 33:34I know that might be shocking. I know that might not be the
- 33:37most comfortable Truth for the flesh, but it is important to
- 33:40know, nonetheless. The Lord does not operate by
- 33:44automatically, giving us the green light on things that we
- 33:47are asking for just because it is something that is good. and
- 33:55just because it is something that is Holy And as much as we
- 33:59want to do it for his namesake because the Lord and his wisdom
- 34:03is More Much, More Much, much wore more aware of the
- 34:08intricacies that are involved. That if something were to go
- 34:11through that, we are completely unaware of And the Lord, in this
- 34:17case knows that this is not for David.
- 34:22This is for somebody else. Was the desired?
- 34:25Good. Absolutely.
- 34:26What was it righteous you bet, was it?
- 34:30God's will no. So we made our relationship with
- 34:36God in our prayer, life too simplistic to our own harm, I
- 34:41believe. Because we think if we if we if
- 34:45it's good and if it's right and if we can pull out a few verses
- 34:48to justify that means that God has to Grant it not necessarily.
- 34:54And just like David got often doesn't give us the reasons for
- 34:56it either, at least in the moment.
- 35:00He doesn't, he doesn't explain why doors shut why things don't
- 35:04happen. Why our dreams don't come to
- 35:08pass so to speak, as much as they are laced with.
- 35:12Desire for God to be blessed by. God knows God understands God
- 35:18sees what you don't see. And here's the thing again, that
- 35:21might make your flesh tense up, but be pliable, like, David was
- 35:27because when you, when we're going to look at this next week,
- 35:29we're not gonna have time to do it.
- 35:30When you look at David's response, he was worshipful.
- 35:32He's surrendered to The Sovereign will of God.
- 35:35He didn't protest. He didn't become bitter.
- 35:38You didn't raise his fists. He didn't pout and paced back
- 35:41and forth. Well, I wanted to do it.
- 35:43Why didn't you let me do it? I wanted this so bad, God is For
- 35:45Your Glory. I've been a righteous And I've
- 35:47been serving you all these years.
- 35:48Nothing, nothing of the sort. And so you need to embrace that
- 35:55truth for your life. Or else you.
- 35:59Oh, you're going to open yourself up to this version of
- 36:02God, where he is a utilitarian God, where he just gives if you
- 36:06press the right buttons and he is much more wise, and loving
- 36:10than that. Now we're going to see something
- 36:14in verse 6. Look at verse 6.
- 36:17God says, I have not lived in a house since the day, I brought
- 36:20up the people of Israel from Egypt to this day but I've been
- 36:24moving about in a tent for my dwelling, in all places where I
- 36:28have moved with all the people of Israel.
- 36:30Did, I speak a word with any of the judges of Israel?
- 36:33Whom I commended to Shepherd, My People Israel saying, why have
- 36:36you not build me a house of cedar?
- 36:40You know what he's saying through Nathan?
- 36:42Hey David. There wasn't a time up to this
- 36:45point where I ever asked any of the former leaders to build me a
- 36:49permanent house. Not once there was not one
- 36:52moment where I said, why are you not considering that I'm living
- 36:56in a tent and not in a house of cedar?
- 36:59He's and he wants David to know that.
- 37:01Here's the question. Why does that matter for David?
- 37:04Why does David need to hear that?
- 37:06There was not a time before this where the Lord brought the idea.
- 37:11Even of a permanent glorious. Opulent dwelling place to be
- 37:16constructed in his name. Any idea?
- 37:21So if you wanted it, he would have really asked for it.
- 37:24So there's something perhaps, they're this God, really, really
- 37:27have a concern about a temple. Being built for him, some would
- 37:30say yes. Maybe, some would say no.
- 37:35There is a plan. So, we can marry those two
- 37:46thoughts together. Perhaps it was because the
- 37:49timing wasn't right. The Lord didn't express it
- 37:53because it wasn't a time to express it.
- 37:55I believe that's a strong point, but why this David need to hear
- 38:00this personally, So, I believe the two thoughts that you, you
- 38:09brought are the main points. Number one to tell David David.
- 38:13This is not the time but 22 also Comfort David to let David know.
- 38:17Hey, it's okay. You don't have to live with any
- 38:20guilt that because you have this Authority and ability to
- 38:23construct something as spectacular as a temple would be
- 38:27because I never asked for it is not something that I demanded.
- 38:33Breaking any law and so just in case, there might be even a hint
- 38:37of guilt and David's heart. The Lord puts him at ease by
- 38:42letting him know I did not ask this.
- 38:45I did not make this a burden. So be it, he's be comforted with
- 38:50this truth. And, you know, I looked at that
- 38:52and I thought to myself, I wonder if what the Lord is
- 38:55saying here to David can be helpful to those.
- 38:59Who might feel that what they have is a gift or what they've
- 39:02been assigned to in the church or in life is not enough for
- 39:06God. You have people who live like
- 39:10that. There is a very, very fine line
- 39:15between Desiring to abound in the love of God, more and more,
- 39:20and feeling a crippling sense of shame or disappointment for.
- 39:26Not achieving something that you believe will be pleasing to God.
- 39:31So, there are some people who are haunted Because unless they
- 39:34feel like they are doing something, it's not really going
- 39:37to bring God pleasure. And so, they just feel like
- 39:41they're there. They're not fruitful and it's
- 39:44not effective and it's not achieving much and it's not
- 39:46touching people's lives. And so surely, I'm not doing
- 39:50what God would require me to be happy with me.
- 39:54And I see something here with this, this, this conversation
- 39:57between the Lord, and David at this point, David, it's okay.
- 40:02It's okay, I didn't call you to be an architect.
- 40:06If I wanted a house to be built, I would make a known just ask my
- 40:09servant Moses. So, so just relax and be be at
- 40:15ease, and I think a lot of, a lot of people need to hear that.
- 40:18And it's for those who who are uncomfortable because, unless
- 40:23they do something Grand, unless they received National
- 40:26recognition, unless it changes people on a consistent basis,
- 40:31then it's not good enough for the Lord.
- 40:36And the Lord would say. As long as you do.
- 40:40What I tell you to do, that's all I ask.
- 40:45Your reward. My brother, my sister in this
- 40:48life as a Christian should be his pleasure. whether he sticks
- 40:53you in a stinking prison or he puts you in a palace, As long as
- 40:59you know that you're doing what God has called you to do.
- 41:02Let that bring you Joy and delight and fight off those
- 41:05condemning thoughts. That say, you're no one, you're
- 41:08not doing anything of value. Just trust that the Lord in his
- 41:15Providence hears your cries and we'll set you exactly where you
- 41:19need to be in order to bring Delight to him and he will do
- 41:22that. So David was comforted right
- 41:25away. The Lord wanted to end this.
- 41:26This is a gracious. This is a gracious word from the
- 41:29Lord and now what's about to happen in the remaining versus
- 41:34Is that we will see the Inception of the establishment
- 41:36of David's, Covenant. With God, this is huge.
- 41:39This is important as Christians. You and I have to grasp and
- 41:44realize how foundational what is about to take place is to our
- 41:49understanding of. Jesus Christ is the word
- 41:52covenant appear in this chapter. It doesn't I can read the whole
- 41:54chapter and you will not find the word covenant, but that's
- 41:58how David understood it. Fast forward, a chapter 23 of
- 42:01your book of second. Samuel, look at verse 5, Second
- 42:13Samuel. 23 verse 5. David says for does not my house
- 42:18stands. So with God for he has made with
- 42:21me and Everlasting Covenant, it's right there.
- 42:25God made an Everlasting Covenant with me back in chapter 7 order
- 42:30and all things and secure for Willie not cause to prosper all
- 42:33my help and my desire. So this is a covenant.
- 42:38This is a promise that God is making with this man.
- 42:42And it's an agreement, but it is an agreement that is
- 42:45unconditional. It's unconditional meaning.
- 42:48There are no conditions that David has to observe.
- 42:53That will keep this Covenant alive.
- 42:59Everything that God says, in this concerning the promises
- 43:03that he will fulfill his dependent upon his own
- 43:04faithfulness. Now what that doesn't mean is
- 43:08that David and his sons can do whatever they want.
- 43:11Without any consequences, they will know severe consequences if
- 43:16they step outside of the will of God.
- 43:19Even if they have this special Covenant with God, would you
- 43:22like to know what? That, what that is.
- 43:24We read it. Pastor Daniel Bennett, read it.
- 43:26You don't have to turn there because we already read it, but
- 43:28let me rehearse it in. Ear in Psalm 89 verse 30.
- 43:33The Lord says, if his children forsake my law and do not walk
- 43:38according to my rules. If they violate my statutes and
- 43:42do not keep my Commandments, then I will punish their
- 43:46transgression with the rod and their iniquity with stripes.
- 43:49I'm going to discipline them. I'm going to discipline Solomon,
- 43:53I'm going to discipline rehoboam, I will discipline
- 43:56every single one if I need to who steps outside of obedience
- 44:01to me, but notice what he says in verse 33.
- 44:05But I will not remove my steadfast love from him or be
- 44:10false to my faithfulness. In other words, they can't do
- 44:14anything to cut this Covenant off, they can't nullify it.
- 44:18Why? Because it's not dependent upon
- 44:20their faithfulness, it's all mine.
- 44:23This promise that God is making with David is to Showcase to the
- 44:27world that When God Says something, he means it.
- 44:32And when God promises, it will come to pass.
- 44:36So it's a special promise that God wants to make so that people
- 44:41can realize as a witness to Generations.
- 44:44The Lord keeps his word and God is still keeping that promise.
- 44:48and God will fulfill this promise to show the world that
- 44:52he even if you promise that thousands of years ago, did not
- 44:55forget what's the essence of the Covenant?
- 45:01Somebody comes up to you says, what's the davidic Covenant?
- 45:04Your Christian. What would you answer?
- 45:12Very good. Wonderful summary.
- 45:13Is it not? Did you hear it?
- 45:15Okay? Maybe didn't solve read it from
- 45:17the verse here in verse 16. Look at second, Samuel 716.
- 45:21This is the summary of the Covenant.
- 45:24And your house and your kingdom shall be made.
- 45:27Sure forever. Before me, your throne shall be
- 45:30established forever. Here is the the core meaning of
- 45:36this Covenant. I am going to establish your
- 45:39Dynasty David and from your seed, I will preserve your
- 45:45kingdom from generation to generation, enduring forever and
- 45:51ever. That's my promise for you.
- 45:55You know, what's amazing? David wanted to build God, a
- 45:58house and God turned it around and he gave him a
- 46:00counterproposal. I'm going to build you a house.
- 46:03That's what I'm going to do. You want to build me a house?
- 46:05How about this? I'm going to build you a house.
- 46:08And so he promises him. He promises him that I am going
- 46:12to watch over your seed. And I'm going to make sure, not
- 46:18just your name survives, but that your throne Will Survive.
- 46:23And that you will have a kingdom forever and ever, and in the
- 46:26natural sense that would have excited David so much because
- 46:29every King knew the Jeopardy, and the danger, that awaited,
- 46:34his descendants that there would be usurpers and Rivals.
- 46:37I would rise up to try to eliminate an extinct, any Royal
- 46:40line so that they can take over and he was assured, it's not
- 46:44going to happen to yours. But David was in carnal like
- 46:47that. He wasn't just about his name
- 46:49and his his reputation. David knew that there was a
- 46:52direct correlation between his kingdom being preserved and
- 46:55God's glory being praised. So he was yes This is amazing,
- 47:00this is wonderful. And no wonder the way he
- 47:02responds next week we'll find out.
- 47:04But here's the thing that's a summary of the Covenant.
- 47:06Let's look at the details. So now we come to our text,
- 47:09right? And verse 8 now.
- 47:12Therefore, thus you shall say to my servant David?
- 47:15Thus says, the Lord of hosts, I took you from the pasture from
- 47:19following the sheep. That you should be Prince Over
- 47:21My People, Israel. And I have been with you
- 47:24wherever you went and have cut off all your enemies from before
- 47:26you, and I will make for you a great name, like the name of the
- 47:30great ones of the earth verse 10.
- 47:33Here's our first one ready. The first detail first Facet of
- 47:38this Covenant. And I will appoint a place for
- 47:42My People, Israel. And I will plant them so that
- 47:45they may dwell in their own place and be disturbed.
- 47:48No more and Violent Men shall afflict them.
- 47:51No more as formerly. Number one, the davidic Covenant
- 47:56includes a permanent occupation of a certain land.
- 48:04Controversial. No biblical.
- 48:09The davidic Covenant is linked to the abrahamic one.
- 48:13And what was, what was the abrahamic Covenant?
- 48:15All about really mainly land? I'm going to set apart a piece
- 48:21of real estate from all the Earth that will host.
- 48:23My people, the people of Israel. And I want to tell you if
- 48:28adequately and clearly, there is nowhere in the Bible that
- 48:31indicates that God changed his promise about that.
- 48:35If anything the New Testament affirms and confirms it, you
- 48:38don't believe me read Romans 9, 10 and 11 and if you're not
- 48:41convinced there go to the Book of Revelation.
- 48:45And then you will see that God really really meant what he said
- 48:47to Abraham and he is just reaffirming that promise to his
- 48:51servant David, there's going to be a place.
- 48:55And that place will be kept. I will make sure that you will
- 48:57occupy that place. And I know that there is much
- 49:01drama around that place and that drama will continue to rage on.
- 49:05But I assure you if God is true, That no one even if all the
- 49:11nations come together, we'll be able to thwart God's promise for
- 49:16the ethnic people who are known as Jews.
- 49:19It's not going to happen. and, It's not because because I can
- 49:26hear the thoughts it's not because God shows favoritism
- 49:29over one people group in comparison to others.
- 49:32It's because God made a promise to a certain people group.
- 49:35So that through the Fulfillment of that promise, all the nations
- 49:38would say that that God keeps his promises.
- 49:42That's the point. He comes at the partnership with
- 49:45one people group. So that the whole world for
- 49:48Generations, be able to say this is the god that keeps his
- 49:52promise. So it's not really
- 49:54controversial, it's biblical and it has everything to do with the
- 49:57character of God. So it includes a place it
- 50:00includes an actual geographical location.
- 50:04But we read on and we see in verse 11, What does it say here
- 50:10from the time that I appointed judges Over My People Israel and
- 50:14I will give you rest from all your enemies.
- 50:17Moreover, the Lord declares to you that the Lord will make you
- 50:19a house the davidic Covenant doesn't just include a place I
- 50:26will be occupied it includes a piece from the enemies of Israel
- 50:31a piece a certain rest and in this particular promise there is
- 50:37a near fulfillment and a future fulfillment what's the near
- 50:42fulfillment at what point will Israel realize this rest that
- 50:45has been promised by God It's not too far off from David
- 50:50Solomon Solomon's Rule and Reign was characterized by this rest,
- 50:55right? And God want to make sure that
- 50:57it was in that period of rest, that the temple would be
- 51:01constructed because he didn't want the association of his
- 51:04house to be with War, which was David.
- 51:08David had too much blood on his hands and he didn't want people
- 51:10to make the connection that that this house of worship was built
- 51:14by a man. And during a time of War, he
- 51:17want to be In a time of peace and worship to reflect the
- 51:20character and nature of God isn't that significant?
- 51:25But we see that after Solomon, it quickly goes downhill and
- 51:28what happens war, Civil War happens, a split with the
- 51:31nation, the tribes, in the nation, there is, there's Exile.
- 51:34All this crazy stuff happens and so we have to ask ourselves.
- 51:37Is it done? Was this a temporal thing was
- 51:40just we just for a moment. No, there's something yet to be
- 51:43fulfilled in a permanent way. And the only way that this piece
- 51:47for this people group around, this nation will come to pass is
- 51:52when the right King steps into the scene.
- 51:55Only until the right King steps into the scene.
- 51:58Will that piece be realized. And that's what Isaiah talks
- 52:01about, right? He speaks about in Isaiah 9:7
- 52:04that with his government will come and unending peace.
- 52:09That's verse 7 of chapter 9. And so we are yet to see that
- 52:14fulfilled. We are awaiting for the arrival
- 52:16of the son of David who would bring this true rest, not just
- 52:20Israel. But to the whole globe So that
- 52:23promise is still awaiting to be known and experienced.
- 52:28Thirdly, you can't have a kingdom without a king.
- 52:32You can't have a kingdom without a king.
- 52:34And so we read the last part of this promise in verse 12, when
- 52:38your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your father's, I
- 52:40will raise up your Offspring. After you who shall come from
- 52:44your body and I will establish his kingdom.
- 52:47He shall build a house for my name and I will establish the
- 52:51Throne of his kingdom forever. I will be to him a father and he
- 52:55shall be to me a son when he commits iniquity, that's
- 52:58strange, I will discipline him with the rod of men with Stripes
- 53:03of the sons of men, but my steadfast love will not.
- 53:06Depart from him. As I took it from Saul, whom I
- 53:09put away from before you. I promise you David that you
- 53:15will have a king who will sit on that throne.
- 53:18Who is that? King, who will build the house?
- 53:19We read it Solomon. What will God discipline him?
- 53:23He didn't say if he sins, right? He says, when he commits
- 53:27iniquity, he is waiting for a he's anticipating that Solomon
- 53:31is going to fail. But there's a word that
- 53:36reappears, three times in three verses and it's the word
- 53:38forever. Forever, forever, forever.
- 53:45And the problem is. Where's the kingdom?
- 53:49Now, if it's supposed to be forever, is that our problem?
- 53:57And the reason why we're not seeing it currently, as we might
- 54:01think it should be, is because the Kings disobeyed God, One
- 54:10after the other, many of them, if not a majority of them
- 54:12disobeyed God and that didn't nullify the Covenant, but it did
- 54:16create a cycle of discipline, a cycle of chastisement that you
- 54:23can say in some sense, delayed it.
- 54:28For example, come to 1st Kings, 8:25, and this is my last
- 54:31reference. Maybe And I'm referencing this
- 54:37so that you can you can have this in your notes.
- 54:41And I want you to see it for yourself.
- 54:46Now therefore First Kings 825. Now therefore O Lord God of
- 54:50Israel. Keep your servant David.
- 54:52My father. What you have promised them
- 54:54saying you shall not lack a man to sit before me on the throne
- 54:59of Israel. What's the next part?
- 55:02If If only your son's pay close attention to their way.
- 55:11So we just heard that this was an unconditional promise, did we
- 55:13not? But the word if Denotes
- 55:19condition. God keep your promise and I
- 55:24understand what's required on our part if only your son's pay
- 55:29close attention to the way. How do we make sense of this?
- 55:34Well again, what we heard earlier?
- 55:36This isn't contradict but the succeeding Kings would not be
- 55:40able to know the fullness of what?
- 55:43God promised David. But only know this discipline
- 55:48and this chastisement and the cycle of it.
- 55:50That's what you read in First Kings and second Kings. the God
- 55:54wanted to, Ultimately fulfill but couldn't because of their
- 55:58Disobedience to some degree and it's not that it's not that God
- 56:03didn't see coming, he saw it coming and he made a point by
- 56:05recording how one king after the other could not be the one that
- 56:10God was speaking about here. The fullness of these blessings
- 56:17would not be known in great part because of the failure for these
- 56:21Kings. And from these Kings, to be able
- 56:23to maintain a righteousness, that would be able to secure
- 56:27God's blessing. So what's the solution of
- 56:31course? Unless one of David's
- 56:33descendants would be able to come and end that cycle by
- 56:37offering a righteousness that would be able to open up an
- 56:42uninterrupted manifestation of God's blessing.
- 56:46That he promised here. You see it now.
- 56:51Why isn't this known? Why was this delayed?
- 56:55Why was this interrupted with Exiles and Wars?
- 56:57Because the sons of David could not keep up with the law of God?
- 57:05and so, the only solution to this is that one of the sons of
- 57:08David has to be able to And there is a clue how this would
- 57:14be made possible because the sons of David, they have a
- 57:17problem like you. And I tonight, you know what
- 57:18that problem is their sons of Adam.
- 57:21That's the issue. That's the whole point.
- 57:25When you read those series of Kings, they can't, they are
- 57:29unable to. And so the prophets who knew the
- 57:32davidic, Covenant, God, the holy spirit, this is the beauty of
- 57:35knowing the Old Testament. God, the holy spirit gives a
- 57:38little bit more life, a little bit more light, and then your
- 57:41job in mind as Desiring to know, the will of God, put the pieces
- 57:44together. The sea, What would be a
- 57:47Mysteries, actually, a plan from eternity past.
- 57:51Let me give you an example. I have two more references for
- 57:53you and hopefully, this will bless you.
- 57:56So, we are now told, I mean, take the time to read this on
- 57:59your own, we are told that there's a king coming.
- 58:01We are told by God that this Kingdom will be forever and we
- 58:05know this ahead of time that it just doesn't seem to be working
- 58:08if you don't have the New Testament.
- 58:10It's a very very Dreadful future for Israel.
- 58:14One failure after the next after the next, until you get to the
- 58:17prophets and you discover some hints given by the spirit of
- 58:21God. And here's one of the most
- 58:23astounding Clues, as it relates to the davidic Covenant, that
- 58:27God makes with him here Zechariah 14:9.
- 58:32Here's a prophecy. About Israel's Future King.
- 58:38And here's what Zechariah 14:9 says.
- 58:48I want you to see it. And the Lord will be king over
- 58:56all the Earth. On that day, the Lord will be
- 59:01one and his name one. is that is that a capitalized lrd in your
- 59:11Bibles should be And Yahweh. The Yahweh will be king over all
- 59:24the Earth, your New Covenant Christian.
- 59:27I hope your eyes have been open to the reality of the person of
- 59:30Jesus Christ. Imagine what that would have
- 59:32sounded like to the Jew of that day.
- 59:36Who are very familiar with the davidic Covenant, they banked on
- 59:40the abrahamic and davidic Covenant for their survival.
- 59:42It was a source of much hope even in their rebellion.
- 59:45And when they sought repentance and offer sudden Zechariah comes
- 59:48on the scene and he says the Lord will be king over all the
- 59:54Earth, well, hold on. Second Samuel 7, we learned that
- 59:59God said one of David's Sons would be the king. so Zechariah
- 1:00:05we're hearing what you said but Nathan said one of David's Sons
- 1:00:08you're saying Yahweh Well, who is it?
- 1:00:13And you can just imagine the equations coming to mind.
- 1:00:16Well, surely one of David's Sons, cannot become God, the
- 1:00:23scriptures teaches that very emphatically.
- 1:00:24Clearly, it's obvious That's impossible.
- 1:00:33Is it possible for God to become a man?
- 1:00:39Is it is it possible not for God to just become a man?
- 1:00:42Is it possible for God to become a man?
- 1:00:44Who was Who is infused and who interjects in the davidic line.
- 1:00:53And this would be mind-blowing, the Lord will be king over all
- 1:00:57the Earth, we're waiting for the son of David to become the king,
- 1:01:02that would conquer the world. How do we make sense of this?
- 1:01:05And the Mystery that is to the Jews, is what you and I call the
- 1:01:10Incarnation. The mystery that is.
- 1:01:16To the mind. I can't comprehend without the
- 1:01:20aid of the holy spirit is something that you and I
- 1:01:22worship, especially once a year. Yes, the Lord can become king,
- 1:01:28the king of the Earth, the son of David because the Lord can
- 1:01:32become a man. and not just a man, he can occupy the womb of
- 1:01:40someone who is from the line of David And assume both roles at
- 1:01:45the same time and fulfill all ancient prophecy. and if you
- 1:01:51think that, if you think that that is a stretch, then take the
- 1:01:56words of Jesus in the last book of the Bible and Revelation
- 1:01:5922:16 and hold on to that verse. If you want a verse that will
- 1:02:05defend the deity of Jesus Christ and not just the deity of Jesus
- 1:02:08Christ. But The promised Messiah that.
- 1:02:14God speaks of in this chapter of our study.
- 1:02:20What does it say in Revelation 22:16?
- 1:02:24I Jesus. No confusion there.
- 1:02:27I Jesus have sent my angel to testify to you about these
- 1:02:31things for the churches. I am the root.
- 1:02:35And a descendant of David, the Bright Morning Star.
- 1:02:40I am the root and a descendant. You know, when you know what
- 1:02:45that means, I'm the creator of David and I'm the son of David.
- 1:02:53I am the author of David and I'm The Offspring of David.
- 1:02:58I'm the god of David Wright, and I'm also The king that was
- 1:03:06promised to David, that would come at one point.
- 1:03:10And so, what you see? Is that the Lord here?
- 1:03:16Is confirming an ancient Prophecy in the very last book
- 1:03:19of the Bible. Do you know, want to know why in
- 1:03:21part? Because one of your last
- 1:03:24thoughts as you close the Bible, assuming that you read it from
- 1:03:27cover to cover. Is that we are still awaiting
- 1:03:31for this King to appear and to fulfill the promise that
- 1:03:35Nathan's spoke to David. That's what you want to do.
- 1:03:39You want to know what's next on the prophetic calendar?
- 1:03:42The thing that God spoke thousands of years ago, well,
- 1:03:45actually happen before our eyes one day in his perfect timing.
- 1:03:51And I just can't imagine the day where David himself and is
- 1:03:55resurrected state will look at his son and also say, that's my
- 1:03:59God. Imagine that thought He's my
- 1:04:04Creator, but he's also my descendant.
- 1:04:07He is my Lord but he's also my son.
- 1:04:13And you. And I Will reign with him if we
- 1:04:17are faithful to him. And I hope that you will take
- 1:04:21that seriously in your life, may you.
- 1:04:23And I reflect this man's passion or said, oh Lord, I don't want
- 1:04:26to be stagnant. I want to know how I can serve
- 1:04:28you as much as I can and I will have my heart and large by these
- 1:04:32desires. And Lord, I will trust that you
- 1:04:34will direct me and how I should fulfill my purpose.
- 1:04:37For Your Name. Lord, we thank you tonight.
- 1:04:41Help us Lord to keep these truths to love you and honor you
- 1:04:46with these truths. And to Rejoice that we are in
- 1:04:50the truth. In Jesus name, amen.
