- speaker-0: your identity is that you are made in the image of God. Like you didn't choose your last name, you didn't choose when you got to be born. God created you. ⁓ speaker-1: kind of boil it down for parents, how can we help kids to build a deeper sense of identity and worth outside of those other measurements? speaker-0: I think that it comes down to this sort of basic thing. You don't choose your identity. It's given to you. Like you didn't choose your last name. You didn't choose when you got to be born. I mean, all those things. ⁓ and you didn't get to choose to to be here in the first place. God created you. But your identity is that you are made in the image of God. Amen. And the good news is you don't get a better identity than that. And and so I think as parents that maybe the most important thing we can do. is just remind our children of that. So look, there's all kinds of great things you can do. You you should get Christie's stuff and get better organized and and you should, you know, you know, you should use resources and you can strive to be better parents. You should be students of your kids, all those things. Absolutely, right? That that's a blessing and an opportunity. But you should also understand that you'll never get it right. You'll never be perfect and you're gonna make failures, right? And so at heart, you know, your job, your responsibility for your children is to love them, to lay down your life for them. And and and part of that is going to be more important than anything else, which is just providing that perspective and saying, hang in there, endure. I'm gonna love you anyhow. Don't be afraid to fail. I'll be here to pick you up. You're not gonna be living under a bridge anywhere. You know what I mean? Like let's faders failure's probably not gonna be fatal. Even if it is, I'm still gonna love you. And and so let me just remind you of that. And and whatever I'm doing imperfectly, the only reason this is worth anything is it points you to the one who loves you perfectly, who can redeem all things, and who will never let you. down never fail you. And and so sometimes for me it's just return to the basics. I look at all the wreckage of things I'm doing wrong, and there's lots of them. And then have to remind myself that, you know, yeah, and that's why I'm not God. And I have to acknowledge that. And I have to go to him and say, please even use these imperfections, redeem them in the lives of my children to help them. Most importantly to know you. Nothing else matters after that. speaker-2: This episode of Homeschool Insights is brought to you by Liberty HealthShare. Choosing to homeschool is about making intentional decisions for your family.
