- 2:10SPEAKER_02: So a big welcome to the space, Lawrence.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: Hey, thank you.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: That was quite the epic introduction.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: I hope I say something very intelligent while we're talking together.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: I will.
- 2:22If that's okay,
- 2:23if you don't,
- 2:24then it's on me as the host not pulling it out of you,
- 2:26right?
- 2:27It's great to be here and always love to share some ideas and
- 2:32wisdom and different
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: ways to view reality because there are many,
- 2:36many ways to explore consciousness and how we relate to our
- 2:41world and particularly
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: through the lens of wellness and our personal prosperity,
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: all of these things.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: So yeah, I'm really delighted to be here.
- 2:50SPEAKER_02: The first thing that's sticking out to me,
- 2:52how did you end up studying Tibetan Buddhism and doing
- 2:56transpersonal holistic
- 2:57SPEAKER_02: health and those sorts of things?
- 2:59SPEAKER_02: What led you to those different paths?
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah,
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: well,
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: look,
- 3:03I've always had an interest in spirituality and consciousness
- 3:06and all the different
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: things that are not ordinarily seen in our five senses.
- 3:12And I think as a child,
- 3:14we had these books,
- 3:15you know,
- 3:16Mysteries of the Unexpected,
- 3:17explained and like all those things about UFOs and sightings of
- 3:21yetis and you name
- 3:22it like all those mysterious mysterious things we had these
- 3:25coffee table books I
- 3:25used to pour over them for hours I just was really fascinated
- 3:28by anything like that
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: as a child so an early teen
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: I got exposed to formal meditation practice when I was 11 years old,
- 3:36pursued a career or started to do a career in art direction and
- 3:41graphic design and
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: realized it wasn't for me and decided in my late teens to just do
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: Spirituality,
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: Wellness,
- 3:48Natural Therapies full-time and I had collisions with some
- 3:51incredible mentors and
- 3:53teachers so I was very very fortunate to have incredible
- 3:56teachers and I was
- 3:57actually looking for somewhere to live and I met a Tibetan
- 4:00Buddhist monk in the
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: street as one does and I said hey do you know of anyone you know looking
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: for someone to have a room and to stay.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: And he said, oh, we have a room at our place.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: I'm like, cool, go check it out.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: And then as it turns out, it was a Buddhist monastery.
- 4:16And so I checked in and,
- 4:17you know,
- 4:17did a three and a half year stint in that place.
- 4:22And,
- 4:22you know,
- 4:23it was very much not a full monastic experience,
- 4:26but not too far off it.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: So daily meditation practices and
- 4:30Living a fairly astute lifestyle and I had the opportunity to
- 4:34meet with a lot of
- 4:35the lineage holders of that tradition and meet with some great
- 4:38teachers and travel
- 4:39with them and yeah so it was a huge honor and opportunity and
- 4:42into mixed with that
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: I was studying transpersonal counseling and
- 4:47Psychology and all these different approaches to deal with our
- 4:50minds and emotions
- 4:51so went full deep into all of that world you know and so it's
- 4:55been an incredible
- 4:56journey but I would say I was just being very very fortunate to
- 4:59have very wise and
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: wonderful teachers that I got to spend time with and
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: and develop myself, you know.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: So it's been a real amazing journey from that standpoint.
- 5:09And I think I've always had this natural drive to think about
- 5:12that the others are
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: many and I'm one.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: So therefore, how do I make myself become of service?
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: How do I bring contributions
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: into the world.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: And I'm, you know, such a visionary and big thinker by default.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: And so for me,
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: it's like a no brainer to go,
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: well,
- 5:28how do we reach as many people as possible for as long as
- 5:31possible to create the
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: biggest positive impact in the world as possible?
- 5:34You know,
- 5:34so that's been the journey for the last,
- 5:37I don't know,
- 5:3730 years or so.
- 5:38SPEAKER_02: There's so much in there I love.
- 5:39But firstly,
- 5:40I do love that you just met your roommates through some meeting
- 5:43on the street.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 5:46SPEAKER_02: But you can't,
- 5:47SPEAKER_02: you know,
- 5:47SPEAKER_02: I know that we're the creators of our,
- 5:51SPEAKER_02: you know,
- 5:52SPEAKER_02: reality and that sort of thing.
- 5:53SPEAKER_02: But,
- 5:54SPEAKER_02: you know,
- 5:54SPEAKER_02: sometimes you look back at your script and you go,
- 5:56SPEAKER_02: wow,
- 5:57SPEAKER_02: that was a cool meet cute before that was that moment.
- 6:01Well these are like little knocks from the universe right so we
- 6:04get nudged and we
- 6:04get little cues and of course some of us we listen and we take
- 6:09action other people
- 6:10we need to have the knock and that gets louder and louder and
- 6:13eventually you know
- 6:14usually there's some massive disruption in our lives if we
- 6:17don't take notice of
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: those signals you know from the universe let's call it
- 6:21Or God Or Good Or Whatever You Want To Put On There So Yeah So
- 6:26I Think A Lot Of
- 6:27This On Some Level You Know Represents The Accumulation Of Good
- 6:31Merit From Former
- 6:32Lives And A Great Yogi I Spent Some Time With He Said Don't
- 6:36Worry If You Don't
- 6:37Believe In Past Lives Because In Your Next Life You Will For
- 6:41Sure You Know Which Is
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: A Great Joke
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: And yeah,
- 6:45so it's been just a fortunate time to meet with some of these
- 6:50great teachers who
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: were really in their prime at the time as well.
- 6:53So I got to study a lot of different spiritual practices,
- 6:57different paths.
- 6:58I got to work with some very accomplished practitioners in an
- 7:01array of different
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: wellness modalities.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: So all of this has been good.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: Raw Materials to fine-tune this thing,
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: whatever we want to call,
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: this living,
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: direct experience,
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: avatar in life,
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: and,
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: make a positive contribution where possible.
- 7:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, beautiful.
- 7:19And then how did you now find yourself in this role of creating
- 7:25or being part of
- 7:26SPEAKER_02: one of the many creators on this documentary,
- 7:28SPEAKER_02: The New Woo?
- 7:29SPEAKER_02: I got that right, right?
- 7:30SPEAKER_02: The New Woo?
- 7:30SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: You did, yeah.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: And, you know, people talk about, you know, that's all woo-woo.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: And it used to be that years ago, woo-woo was like, oh, that's fluffy.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: It's not really real or useful.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: Hug a tree.
- 7:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: Hug a tree and stuff like that.
- 7:48And so I think it's about embracing that we all have different
- 7:51aspects of woo if
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: we're open to that,
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: like we're open to things that are non-ordinary.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 7:56There's a lot of wonderful emerging technologies and practices
- 8:01and awareness of
- 8:02teachers now hitting more mainstream audiences with these
- 8:06different wellness
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: modalities and so forth.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: So you just look at the rise of biohacking and so forth.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: So I was on a media tour in the U.S.
- 8:14last year and at a biohacking conference and I met with the
- 8:18founders of the Biohack
- 8:20Yourself magazine and their documentary filmmakers and having
- 8:24wonderful impact all
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: over the world,
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: massive reach.
- 8:28And I was supposed to be in one of their documentaries and I
- 8:30had missed the filming
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: window and I was talking to the director saying,
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: oh,
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: it's a shame,
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: we can't do this filming.
- 8:36And I said,
- 8:37oh,
- 8:37it'd be really cool if we could do a film about the whole
- 8:40wellness industry.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: and named a few of the modalities.
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: And he was like, oh yeah, all the woo-woo modalities.
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, yeah, all the woo-woo.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: And he said, well, what would you call it?
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: And I said, I don't know, the new woo.
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: And so that's how the name kind of just happened.
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: It was a bit of a download in the moment.
- 8:57and so it was like okay well let's see let's let's put it out
- 9:01so I shared it with
- 9:02some you know people in my community a lot of the thought
- 9:06leaders and practitioners
- 9:07we already represent through the global accreditation body that
- 9:10I run and founded
- 9:13and so we started socializing the idea of putting this film
- 9:15together and you know
- 9:17very quickly pulled together an incredible cast of the world's
- 9:20greatest thought
- 9:20leaders in the human potential movement and founders and
- 9:24pioneers of different
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: natural therapy modalities
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: And yeah,
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 9:28we start filming in October this year and building up this
- 9:32incredible ecosystem
- 9:34that celebrates the world of wellness and bringing it to our
- 9:37mainstream audience.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: So yeah, it's been quite a journey for sure.
- 9:42SPEAKER_02: Which I love and I love that you're bringing the new woo.
- 9:45and I'm laughing because I was doing something in chat GPT and
- 9:49I put in this prompt
- 9:50to not be so nice and it said stop being so woo with this
- 9:54actually it's like a
- 9:55really hard point stop bringing this the woo into it that's
- 9:58what actually what chat
- 9:59fed back to me so it's become this term right of like oh don't
- 10:03be so woo or that
- 10:04sort of thing but it's like you can't turn it off it's just
- 10:07like once you once you
- 10:08SPEAKER_02: open the faucet it's it's gonna keep running
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly.
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: So it's entering more mainstream and being in this space now,
- 10:16I'm starting to see the use of that term everywhere and of
- 10:19course it's like,
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: if there's a particular car you want to purchase,
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: you just see it everywhere,
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: right?
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: Because your mind is suddenly...
- 10:27tuned into that thing so I mean I'm seeing woo everywhere I
- 10:30look these days which
- 10:31is great and not lots of people using the term so I think it's
- 10:34a great name for the
- 10:36film it's a bit tongue-in-cheek as well you know it's but it's
- 10:39claiming yeah okay
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: let's own the woo let's let's
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: own the parts of us that are outside the usual.
- 10:46So it has almost a bit of a rebellious aspect to it as well and
- 10:49a disruptive aspect to it.
- 10:51SPEAKER_00: And that's great, you know, because the world does need shaking up.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: We do need to, you know, get the mud from our
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: and see another way of being in the world.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: And that's,
- 11:01SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 11:01through offering great services to help other people and to
- 11:05elevate health that's
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: not necessarily limited to a medical or pharmaceutical model.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: And,
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: of course,
- 11:12SPEAKER_00: these things definitely have their merits,
- 11:14but it's also about how do we embrace complementary and
- 11:16wellness therapies that
- 11:18SPEAKER_00: some of them have,
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: lineages of thousands of years old.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: So it's about embracing both and, not either or.
- 11:27and there's been lots of great people that have pioneered this
- 11:29for decades.
- 11:31SPEAKER_00: But I think humanity is really at this precipice, this turning point to
- 11:35Embrace the world of the Wu and the world of wellness and to
- 11:38bring this to the
- 11:40SPEAKER_00: group consciousness,
- 11:41SPEAKER_00: the collective consciousness.
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: And a lot of the individual people that we have confirmed in the cast,
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: people like Saad Guru,
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: people like Jack Canfield,
- 11:50SPEAKER_00: Michael Beckwith,
- 11:51SPEAKER_00: they've built their own empires,
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: you could say,
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: but they're individually,
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: they had their collective audiences.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: But it's like if we bring
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: All of these four leaders into one ecosystem,
- 12:03SPEAKER_00: it's not like a ship on the water,
- 12:05SPEAKER_00: it's the actual tide that rises consciousness,
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: that rises humanity to a new way of being in the world.
- 12:12So that's the opportunity,
- 12:14I think,
- 12:14is this a great way to view reality through a new lens.
- 12:19SPEAKER_00: to see that,
- 12:20SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 12:20SPEAKER_00: it's not just about our own,
- 12:22SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 12:22SPEAKER_00: what's in it for me and my survival and what can I get out of this?
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: It's more about what can I give?
- 12:27SPEAKER_00: How can I be a contribution in the world?
- 12:30SPEAKER_00: How can we benefit each other,
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: whether it's just my neighbor or my community or my city or the country?
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: You know,
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: like thinking big and thinking wide,
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: that's where the greatest leverage lies,
- 12:41SPEAKER_00: you know?
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: So this is something I'm really excited to be part of.
- 12:46And I feel it's very beautiful timing because it's reflecting
- 12:50that shift of people
- 12:51SPEAKER_02: starting to move away from just using Western or allopathic medicine,
- 12:55SPEAKER_02: right?
- 12:56They're starting to look at different things because those
- 12:58systems are letting them
- 12:59SPEAKER_02: down to a point because they're missing the holistic aspect of that care,
- 13:03SPEAKER_02: you know,
- 13:04SPEAKER_02: and that there's other things that are at play.
- 13:06SPEAKER_02: But then also the shift from a
- 13:09you know frequency level you know everyone talks about moving
- 13:12to this 5d and
- 13:14everything and everyone has their own perspective of what that
- 13:16looks like but no
- 13:18one can deny there is this frequency shift where you talk to
- 13:21more and more people
- 13:22and people aren't as afraid of the woo anymore they're like oh
- 13:25yeah you know you
- 13:26know I was doing an oracle card reading the other day and
- 13:29sometimes it's from
- 13:29people so left field I'm like really you know and even I had
- 13:33another client and she
- 13:35SPEAKER_02: was saying that
- 13:36she was asking for someone to come teach her more about plants
- 13:39and connecting with
- 13:39plants and one of her persons she walked in a very formal
- 13:43business setting says oh
- 13:45yeah I do all of that after work she's like no like she just
- 13:48had no idea because
- 13:51it's people learning to embrace that you know we've got that
- 13:53duality component of
- 13:55being human but at the same time there's still this fluidness
- 13:58that is starting to
- 13:59evolve of realizing that you know you don't have to be one or
- 14:02the other your life
- 14:04SPEAKER_02: can be
- 14:05you know mixed with the both yeah absolutely i think that's
- 14:08important to not work
- 14:09you know walk in one camp or the other especially to embrace
- 14:14life through the
- 14:15mindset of curiosity and assuming we don't know all the answers
- 14:19and i don't i'd
- 14:20have never really met anybody that has right so it's like uh
- 14:23yeah we we have this
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: opportunity to
- 14:26Identify Wellness through the lens of prevention rather than
- 14:32being asymptomatic and
- 14:33SPEAKER_00: dealing with symptoms.
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: So if we look at the Western allopathic model,
- 14:38we're waiting till we get sick and then we go see our health
- 14:41professionals.
- 14:41right or whether it's a doctor or allied health or
- 14:45pharmaceuticals or whatever it
- 14:46is but it's like what if we are approaching life through the
- 14:50lens of how do we
- 14:51optimize our longevity and health and our diet our exercise
- 14:55getting enough sunlight
- 14:57like doing all the things that support our emotional well-being
- 15:00as well because
- 15:01that's obviously you know the mind and the emotions and body
- 15:04are so deeply
- 15:05SPEAKER_00: interconnected and a lot of the ancients knew this you know we
- 15:09SPEAKER_00: We see,
- 15:10SPEAKER_00: if we identify like a lot of the more ancient approaches to wellness,
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: you would engage a physician or a medical practitioner,
- 15:19SPEAKER_00: whatever you want to call it,
- 15:20SPEAKER_00: particularly in the ancient sort of Asia,
- 15:22SPEAKER_00: a physician would be retained
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: by the family to keep them well and so they'd pay while you were well.
- 15:28SPEAKER_00: As soon as you got ill,
- 15:29you stopped paying and it was their job to return or restore
- 15:32you to wellness.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: That's a complete invert of the current model.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: So when we talk about what inputs come in and that means the food,
- 15:43SPEAKER_00: the rest,
- 15:44SPEAKER_00: the positive thoughts,
- 15:46SPEAKER_00: not just what we say outwardly but what we say to ourselves internally,
- 15:50SPEAKER_00: this is incredibly powerful because we start to
- 15:53SPEAKER_00: Be in control of the creation of our world,
- 15:57SPEAKER_00: how we create and how we show up with our friends,
- 16:00SPEAKER_00: our family,
- 16:01SPEAKER_00: our communities.
- 16:02SPEAKER_00: When that is dialed in from a place of being conscious and being aware,
- 16:06we have an opportunity to take greater responsibility for our
- 16:11health and wellness
- 16:11SPEAKER_00: and also how we show up in the world,
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: in the marketplace,
- 16:16SPEAKER_00: do the right thing.
- 16:17If you look at all the religions,
- 16:19they have this commonality around compassion and
- 16:23you know do others as they would do for others as they would do
- 16:26to you or whatever
- 16:27the saying is but you know that idea that you know having the
- 16:32right approach to
- 16:33being kind in the world that is going to cultivate good
- 16:38outcomes over time right
- 16:40and it's about repetition too it's not like I do my one good
- 16:44deed for the day or
- 16:45the year or the month or whatever and then the rest of the day
- 16:48I'm completely you
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: know switched off
- 16:50SPEAKER_00: I'm a terrible person to be around.
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: Like,
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: no,
- 16:53SPEAKER_00: it's about a daily experience of bringing love and kindness,
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: a contribution in the world.
- 16:57SPEAKER_00: That's where we get the, you know, it's like going to the gym.
- 17:00You don't lift weights once a month and expect to,
- 17:02you know,
- 17:03have a miracle.
- 17:06SPEAKER_00: It's not going to happen like that.
- 17:07It's through consistency over time that we leverage compassion
- 17:11and we leverage
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: kindness and cultivate good merit in ourselves.
- 17:16SPEAKER_00: And that starts to naturally spill into our community.
- 17:19yeah and I love that and it really does come back to the only
- 17:23thing you can control
- 17:24is you right so when you take control of what you're choosing
- 17:28to put in your field
- 17:30and what you're choosing to watch say and how you act around
- 17:34others then that can
- 17:35ripple out I truly believe it can ripple out to other people
- 17:39and it can lead to
- 17:40SPEAKER_02: those shifts in in those around you and if it's not
- 17:44SPEAKER_02: Maybe look at the spaces you're putting yourself in as well,
- 17:48SPEAKER_02: and maybe you need to make change with that too.
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and that takes courage, right?
- 17:53SPEAKER_00: So people often say, just be confident.
- 17:56SPEAKER_00: And it's like, well, I can't be confident unless I have proof.
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: And proof comes from showing up courageously in life.
- 18:03And then through extending ourselves and pushing ourselves that
- 18:07little bit extra,
- 18:08and leaning into the fear or leaning into the challenge we get
- 18:12you know the good
- 18:13outcome and then that gives us the confidence so I always say
- 18:17you know if there
- 18:18were two pillars or really three I'd say one is definitely you
- 18:21know show up with
- 18:22kindness where possible two I would say show up with curiosity
- 18:26because you know we
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: might wake up in the morning and be deluded and think we know
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: And usually we don't, right?
- 18:33SPEAKER_00: So like I'd say,
- 18:34SPEAKER_00: be like superiors,
- 18:35like what's it like from the other's perspective and what's
- 18:38really potentially
- 18:39SPEAKER_00: happening here?
- 18:40And,
- 18:40you know,
- 18:41from that place,
- 18:42we will build more muscle with confidence.
- 18:45And the third,
- 18:46of course,
- 18:46is the aspect of being courageous in our life and that
- 18:51means their doors open where they wouldn't otherwise because we
- 18:54are actually
- 18:55SPEAKER_00: extending beyond the comfort zone.
- 18:57SPEAKER_00: If we look at most of us as modern people in the first world,
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: incredibly privileged,
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: everything's like instantaneous and,
- 19:05SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 19:05SPEAKER_00: we haven't had to work overly hard for it.
- 19:07You don't have to go too far back in history to realize that
- 19:10we're an incredibly
- 19:11SPEAKER_00: privileged space with options.
- 19:13SPEAKER_00: We switch on a tap and there's clean water and
- 19:16SPEAKER_00: Switch on the light and there's light,
- 19:17SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 19:18SPEAKER_00: we can go to our fridge,
- 19:19SPEAKER_00: we can pretty much get whatever we've purchased,
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: right?
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: So it's a very different situation to how it used to be.
- 19:25SPEAKER_00: And yet we're so distracted, yet we're so disconnected.
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: You know,
- 19:28we have all this technology and everyone's got their heads in
- 19:31their phone and
- 19:32SPEAKER_00: they're missing information.
- 19:33you know the the beautiful uh experience of life unfolding all
- 19:37around them you know
- 19:38so i think it's it's about making sure there's a good measure
- 19:42between identifying
- 19:44where the human animal needs to come back to literally getting
- 19:47your feet on the
- 19:48grass and you know getting it back to grassroots and meaningful
- 19:52connection that
- 19:53happens sitting across from you know your family and having a
- 19:57meal together not you
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: know like we have a rule no no phones
- 20:02SPEAKER_00: When we're eating, we're just literally away.
- 20:04SPEAKER_00: And just that naturally conversation occurs,
- 20:07but otherwise we're in this constant state of distraction where
- 20:10we miss the moment.
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: I was with my family and we went to this fireworks display.
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: This is a few weeks ago and there was a beautiful fireworks going.
- 20:18I looked around and about 90% of the parents were filming the
- 20:22fireworks and they
- 20:23were not just in the present moment watching this incredible
- 20:27thing unfold.
- 20:28SPEAKER_00: You look at the kids,
- 20:29the kids are just looking there and completely attuned to
- 20:34what's unfolding.
- 20:35SPEAKER_00: They're not trying to save the moment.
- 20:39SPEAKER_00: And how many times do we video something incredible?
- 20:42SPEAKER_00: We go back and maybe we watch it once, maybe we watch it never.
- 20:46SPEAKER_00: So it's quite interesting what happens with that.
- 20:49Just looking through the lens of being present in life and not
- 20:52missing life because
- 20:53we're trying to capture it through something we'll never watch
- 20:56again anyway.
- 20:57SPEAKER_00: So it's really interesting.
- 20:59Well that was like when my son was younger and he was a baby I
- 21:02used to take a lot
- 21:03of photos and I just would send them to the grandparents but I
- 21:06was more taking them
- 21:07for my husband because he wasn't home you know and he was at
- 21:10work and so then when
- 21:12we flipped roles and I went back to work he didn't take many
- 21:15photos and then so the
- 21:17grandparents are like where are all the photos of our
- 21:18grandchild and I'm like
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: Well, you can come and visit.
- 21:22SPEAKER_02: And then they would come and visit and instead of spending time with him,
- 21:26SPEAKER_02: would start taking photos.
- 21:28I'm just sitting there going,
- 21:29oh my goodness,
- 21:30just exactly like you said,
- 21:32enjoy the moment.
- 21:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they could have done that without coming over.
- 21:36Yeah,
- 21:37so I think it's,
- 21:38you know,
- 21:39media is an affliction for young and old,
- 21:42right?
- 21:42SPEAKER_00: And I mean,
- 21:44I think some of the boomer generation missed the boat with the
- 21:48tech or they might
- 21:49SPEAKER_00: just have a little bit.
- 21:51SPEAKER_00: Fathered, but not, you know, not super accomplished.
- 21:53But,
- 21:54you know,
- 21:54certainly millennials onwards,
- 21:55it's,
- 21:56you know,
- 21:56it's rampant,
- 21:57right?
- 21:57SPEAKER_00: So I think having discipline around that,
- 21:59SPEAKER_00: I mean,
- 22:00even like charging or putting your phone in a room separate to
- 22:05where you sleep.
- 22:07Or getting off screens an hour before you go to bed and read an
- 22:11actual book,
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: not on a tablet,
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: like something where you turn the pages,
- 22:15SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 22:15SPEAKER_00: like things like that,
- 22:16SPEAKER_00: that we can wind down,
- 22:17SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 22:17SPEAKER_00: we get good sleep.
- 22:19SPEAKER_00: I mean, that is the elixir of life.
- 22:22SPEAKER_00: You know what we're like,
- 22:23SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 22:24SPEAKER_00: you can see why people say,
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: oh,
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: it's a form of torture to keep people up for a really long time.
- 22:29SPEAKER_00: People start going out of their minds,
- 22:30SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 22:30SPEAKER_00: because,
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: sleep is so critical,
- 22:33SPEAKER_00: a quality of sleep.
- 22:34SPEAKER_00: And when we don't sleep well, we're usually worried
- 22:37about the future or we're lamenting the past which we can't
- 22:40change you know so it's
- 22:41about having kindness towards ourself and forgiving ourself for
- 22:44the the things we
- 22:45did when we didn't know and if we do have the fortune to know
- 22:49better then we can
- 22:50say okay well this is what I want to dream into my future and
- 22:53what do I want to
- 22:53create that would be more meaningful so that my future self
- 22:56will come back not look
- 22:58back and lament the past but look back and congratulate me and
- 23:01say thank you for
- 23:02SPEAKER_00: doing
- 23:03the action or saying the thing or daring to say I love you or
- 23:06daring to say I'm
- 23:07SPEAKER_00: sorry or whatever it is,
- 23:09SPEAKER_00: right?
- 23:09Like that's the opportunity we all have and the beautiful thing
- 23:12about all this is
- 23:13SPEAKER_00: that it doesn't cost us anything.
- 23:15SPEAKER_00: It just costs us with some courage and curiosity.
- 23:18So this is the gift that's there all the time and we miss it
- 23:22because we think,
- 23:22SPEAKER_00: oh,
- 23:22I've got to go do the course or I've got to pay the
- 23:24subscription or I've got to go
- 23:26SPEAKER_00: sit at the feet of the guru.
- 23:28SPEAKER_00: Well, the guru is right here in the mirror, you know?
- 23:31SPEAKER_00: Mm-hmm.
- 23:31SPEAKER_00: That's the saying,
- 23:32SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 23:32SPEAKER_00: you bring,
- 23:34SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 23:34all the zen that you looked for when you climbed the mountain
- 23:38to sit in the temple,
- 23:40SPEAKER_00: you carried it with you.
- 23:41SPEAKER_00: It was always there.
- 23:42So my Buddhist teacher had a great saying and he just passed
- 23:46away actually a couple
- 23:48SPEAKER_00: of weeks ago,
- 23:48SPEAKER_00: which is a massive contribution he brought to the world.
- 23:52SPEAKER_00: And he used to say to us,
- 23:54SPEAKER_00: he said,
- 23:54SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 23:55SPEAKER_00: if you could see yourself as I see you,
- 23:58you would be walking around with a mirror all day just looking
- 24:01in the mirror going,
- 24:01SPEAKER_00: oh my God,
- 24:02SPEAKER_00: so beautiful,
- 24:03SPEAKER_00: so beautiful.
- 24:04because it was like that he he was I wouldn't say he was
- 24:07completely enlightened I'd
- 24:08say he was very liberated but he could just treat you know he
- 24:12just met and saw
- 24:13people from their true nature and what a beautiful thing that
- 24:17is you know so I
- 24:18SPEAKER_00: think it's the idea to
- 24:20open our eyes and we do that by working on ourselves by
- 24:23improving ourselves seeing
- 24:24how we can heal our trauma elevate our awareness bring more
- 24:29consciousness into each
- 24:31moment then we get to experience the moment not miss it and
- 24:34then we've got
- 24:35something meaningful to give in the world as well yeah and it's
- 24:40it's all about that
- 24:41you know you're unique and you have something special to offer
- 24:44the world and also
- 24:45SPEAKER_02: again it's that
- 24:46SPEAKER_02: That whole thing of presence, right?
- 24:48SPEAKER_02: Like the more you can practice presence,
- 24:50the more you can be with yourself and you can be with the
- 24:53others around you.
- 24:54SPEAKER_02: And,
- 24:54SPEAKER_02: you know,
- 24:55SPEAKER_02: and then I love that you brought up as well that,
- 24:58SPEAKER_02: you know,
- 24:58it's the courage to move forward and make those changes that
- 25:02you want to see in
- 25:03SPEAKER_02: your life.
- 25:04I think it's Mahatma Gandhi and he said you know be the change
- 25:06you want to see in
- 25:07the world I so love that that I live by that because it's like
- 25:11she on the previous
- 25:12recording I just had we were talking about this you know if you
- 25:15walk past rubbish
- 25:16SPEAKER_02: and you're constantly thinking I want someone should pick that rubbish up
- 25:20Well no one's going to pick that rubbish up because you're
- 25:22thinking about it you
- 25:23pick the rubbish up because if you don't start doing that no
- 25:27one else is going to
- 25:27pick rubbish up and I used to do this at my old office where I
- 25:31would pick up
- 25:32rubbish out the front if I had the space or the time and could
- 25:35do that and I
- 25:36purposely bring like this little garbage picker up thing
- 25:38because it was so bad
- 25:40and I actually was really becoming really sad about it I was
- 25:43like how am I the only
- 25:44one that's seeing this and concerned about it and then the next
- 25:48day Lawrence I was
- 25:50leaving and I didn't have time and I picked up a few things and
- 25:54then all these
- 25:55other people started picking up rubbish as well and I was like
- 25:58it happens it
- 25:59SPEAKER_02: happens but it was just holding on to that
- 26:03SPEAKER_02: and creating that change in my world so that other people could see,
- 26:07SPEAKER_02: yeah,
- 26:08SPEAKER_02: okay,
- 26:08SPEAKER_02: I can do that too and I can bring that back to me.
- 26:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so that's it.
- 26:13SPEAKER_00: That's absolutely wonderful.
- 26:14So,
- 26:14you know,
- 26:15you're being the living example of the change you want to be.
- 26:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so you demonstrate that, then others follow.
- 26:22SPEAKER_00: So you give the invitation for others to
- 26:26make a contribution whether it's small or big it doesn't matter
- 26:29so this in Native
- 26:30American Indian tradition they talk about this concept of the
- 26:33caretaker philosophy
- 26:34and it's like when you come into a situation or an environment
- 26:38but also when you
- 26:39SPEAKER_00: meet somebody like if you can leave them better the way
- 26:42Better Than The Way You Found Them Or If You Can Come Into The
- 26:44Environment And Do
- 26:45That Little Bit Extra Extend Yourself Just That Bit More Then
- 26:49You're Making Some
- 26:50Small Imprint And Again It'S Usually Something Very
- 26:54Inconsequential Like It'S Small
- 26:55SPEAKER_00: But The Ripples Are Huge
- 26:58So it's this incredible opportunity we have in each moment to
- 27:01do just the right
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: thing and to do a bit more.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: That's asked, you know, to add a bit more value.
- 27:06SPEAKER_00: We see that in business.
- 27:07If we have a fair or above expectation exchange with someone,
- 27:14then we,
- 27:15you know,
- 27:15we open doors.
- 27:17It's like if you go out to dinner and you get your meal and
- 27:21then based on the
- 27:22SPEAKER_00: experience,
- 27:23SPEAKER_00: you decide what kind of tip you want to give at the end.
- 27:26SPEAKER_00: or no tip, right?
- 27:28SPEAKER_00: I mean, in the States, that would be like a huge insult, right?
- 27:32SPEAKER_00: I've had many stories, don't worry, I'll tell you another time.
- 27:35Being in the US and they're like,
- 27:38what are you doing or not tipping enough?
- 27:40SPEAKER_00: But the point I'm making is like,
- 27:43SPEAKER_00: what does it like to come into an interaction and actually tip before the
- 27:47SPEAKER_00: experience?
- 27:48What kind of service would you get if your person is coming to
- 27:52the table and you say,
- 27:54SPEAKER_00: Thank you and give them tippy feet before anything has even happened.
- 27:57SPEAKER_00: What kind of interaction would occur?
- 28:00SPEAKER_00: And so it's really about like being courageously extending ourself into a
- 28:05SPEAKER_00: situation,
- 28:06SPEAKER_00: adding value and contributing and then seeing what happens to your world.
- 28:11SPEAKER_00: It's absolutely phenomenal.
- 28:13SPEAKER_00: But again, it takes courage, right?
- 28:14SPEAKER_00: Because we're so used to like, ooh,
- 28:17SPEAKER_00: you know what's in it for me and will they will it be met no show up with
- 28:22generosity and kindness and see what opens in your world it's
- 28:26absolutely phenomenal
- 28:28yeah a hundred percent and as we start to finish our time
- 28:31together Lawrence I know
- 28:32you've got so many wisdom nuggets there but we've got to we've
- 28:35got to wrap up I
- 28:36asked the guests that come on the show if you could heal or
- 28:39change something in the
- 28:40SPEAKER_02: world what would it be
- 28:42SPEAKER_00: Well, I mean, I've been pointing to some of these concepts, I suppose.
- 28:46It's showing up with this idea of what is my,
- 28:50probably two things,
- 28:50can I have two?
- 28:51SPEAKER_00: I'd say compassion.
- 28:53Yeah,
- 28:53show up from the place of compassion and the extension of
- 28:57compassion is contribution.
- 28:59SPEAKER_00: So if I go from me to we, that's a very interesting conversation.
- 29:04SPEAKER_00: That's a very interesting way to be in the world.
- 29:06SPEAKER_00: That opens doors, that opens...
- 29:08connection it engenders love and you know the spirit of
- 29:13generosity and keeping that
- 29:14alive you know so I think that's there's some of the things
- 29:17that I would say that's
- 29:19that's the medicine the world needs right now yeah beautiful I
- 29:23love it and if
- 29:24people want to come and connect with you Lawrence or find out
- 29:27more about what work
- 29:28you do or even where to keep an eye out for when your
- 29:31documentary is released
- 29:32SPEAKER_02: where's the best place they can go
- 29:34Yeah,
- 29:35well,
- 29:35I'd say Instagram's a fairly reliable source for what I'm up
- 29:39to.
- 29:40So my handle is lawrence underscore elliard,
- 29:43and I guess that'll be in the show notes.
- 29:45SPEAKER_00: And you can also go to my website, lawrenceelliard.com.
- 29:48A third shout out I guess would be for the global accreditation
- 29:51body that we have
- 29:52which is myiict.com so that's for any wellness practitioners
- 29:57but yeah certainly
- 29:57reaching out on any of those channels or you know you'll
- 30:00probably get to talk to me
- 30:02not you know an AI agent or something like that I'm very much
- 30:05like old school let's
- 30:06let's actually have conversation versus automating absolutely
- 30:10everything but yeah
- 30:11you know happy to to talk with people and you know riff on
- 30:14ideas I think that's
- 30:15SPEAKER_00: where the magic happens
- 30:18I so agree and thank you Lawrence for sharing your journey and
- 30:21your perspectives
- 30:22and how you're creating impact as big a scale as you possibly
- 30:27can so that you can
- 30:28share and pay it forward and contribute right with compassion
- 30:32so for everyone
- 30:33listening if you enjoyed this episode please remember to like
