- 2:04here here is just you know, incredible. And you know, when I
- 2:07started to show again, I wanted to hi people man, that inspire others
- 2:12and just you know, when you see them, you see them mature over
- 2:15time and you see them grow over time. Man, Just to being able
- 2:20to watch this person, man and everything that he's doing. Man, and
- 2:23just man, he's just killing the game, right Man, I'm want to
- 2:27walk him to the mic. Beward, what's that Brown? What's up?
- 2:36What's up? Cooling? Man? Cooler? And as honored Man, I'm
- 2:40I'm I'm man. I'm so honored, broud to to be in this author's
- 2:46lounge. Man. It's um, this is amazing. It's amazing for me.
- 2:51So, Man, Man, I see you be doing a lot of
- 2:53work. Man, I also want to give you a shout out to doing
- 2:58an intro to my show. Man. You know, I was gonna ask
- 3:00you who was that smooth sounding dude? Right? You know, you know
- 3:07we gotta nothing world? Who the force is? You know what I'm saying.
- 3:10I was like, Man, I was like, man, I want
- 3:13to do something different. You know I don't. I don't always like to
- 3:15be in the dude dude like everybody else does. So I was like,
- 3:19man, I'm like a pollness solved, right, Hey, you did it,
- 3:23man, you you you did it. Bro. Like I said,
- 3:25I was not only just honored to be on this on the show, but
- 3:30honor when you even hit me up because I know you you you know a
- 3:35plethora of people. You could have asked anybody to do that, right,
- 3:39But you told a little country dude man from that was born to Ray was
- 3:44in the spot called Indian Screens, Georgia. Man, Like, the country
- 3:46is of the country, right, and you asked me to do it.
- 3:50But I was so honored. I'm like, wait, I had to read
- 3:52it again, like, wait, didn't you really hold on? Wait a
- 3:55minute, is this yeah? Man? Like you send that to the right
- 3:58person. But yeah, man, yes, I'm Honor Broum. I've been
- 4:04noticing you doing a whole lot of stuff with your books, man, so
- 4:09with your poetry and stuff, and then you got to a single of coming
- 4:13out go here and let the world know a little bit about yourself and what
- 4:15you do. Man. I am a little country boy one raided in the
- 4:21spot called Indian Springs, Georgia. Man. I live now in Fayville,
- 4:28which is like ten minutes fifteen minutes from downtown Atlanta, so I'm really in
- 4:32the Mentroal area, manum. But that's about That's about it with me,
- 4:38you know what I'm saying. I don't like to really talk about the books
- 4:41and all that, because the books is a part of me. But the
- 4:44books are not me, you know what I'm saying. Yeah, Like Indian
- 4:46Springs is me. Bro I'm I'm as country as it gets. Like right
- 4:50here in the interview, you may hear some old country stuff. Man,
- 4:54you'd be like, wait, what did he just say? And then I
- 4:57have to explain it if you If you don't know what I'm saying, just
- 4:59say boat, what did you say? Just then then I'll go back and
- 5:01break it down to you, tell you what it means. Yeah, yeah,
- 5:05definitely. Well I was going and raised in the country too, so
- 5:09you know, us boys getting climated with the city. In finement, you
- 5:15know, we don't know how to act when me hit this city, right,
- 5:21But what it inspired you to start doing poetry and to do all that
- 5:26you do? Um Man. I started out younger, I wanted to be
- 5:30a rapper, and then I stopped. I stopped for a long time.
- 5:38I met my wife, and I guess life itself inspired me to write.
- 5:44A lot of people say, well, oh, I was inspired by my
- 5:46wife, But I think life itself and just waking up every morning inspired me
- 5:53to write because when I wake up every morning, my wife is a part
- 5:57of my life. Yes, people like yourself are a part of my life.
- 6:00You understand you and I we we we we communicate through Facebook heavy.
- 6:08If I post something, you sharing it. If you post something, I'm
- 6:13sharing it. So you're a part of my life. So life in general,
- 6:16other poets, my sisters, my brother, my children, friends,
- 6:20that that's life. Life inspires me to write this like not one person.
- 6:26I said, Oh man, my inspires me to write like the piece I
- 6:29got out, and then I'll call she. Yeah. Every every day I
- 6:34did attribute to somebody, to a woman in my life. I started off
- 6:40Mother's Day with my mom. I dropped it on Mother's Day. So every
- 6:44day I did a different tribute to somebody. My sisters, um um,
- 6:48my daughters, my grandmother, and greater on them all its past. Um
- 6:56excuse me, cousins. I did attribute to everybody every single day because all
- 7:01these people, whether they were in my life every day or every other year,
- 7:08they're still she to me. They helped me understand what a woman is,
- 7:14what a woman should be, how I'm supposed to love a woman,
- 7:17how I'm supposed to respect a woman. But in order to respect y'all,
- 7:20I gotta respect me first. Then it goes into that and see I understand
- 7:26that, and you know, and now today it's it's changed. It's like
- 7:30nobody even has respect for nobody nowadays. And for you to express to use
- 7:36your masculinity at the same time to express that love too the females. Man
- 7:43that that that inspires people like me because at the same time I see this
- 7:46generation and for me, I'm just masculine guy that's out for male and it's
- 7:51like I don't want to be all you, you know what I'm saying,
- 7:56sister, But at the same time I am because I really care, you
- 8:00know what I'm saying. We was born up. We was like, no,
- 8:03you're a man. You ain't supposed to have no for you. He
- 8:05supposed to show your emotional side. You know. Right as I grew older,
- 8:11we can't be sensitive and still be that out for mail and our woman's
- 8:15like, it's not no, we don't have to be no pump, but
- 8:18we can show that side and with your portray what made you just let's be
- 8:24like, man, I don't want to rap, but I'm gonna spit out
- 8:26some of this poetry. And then you're in Georgia. You know, I've
- 8:28lived in Atlanta, Georgia for a while. So okay, you know you
- 8:31got all this going on. What kept you pushing and kept going even when
- 8:35the times that you felt like you wasn't you wasn't there? Oh man,
- 8:41and that down that's crazy. Um, but I still feel like I'm not
- 8:46there. Just being honest with you, I'm just kind of really understanding what
- 8:52other people would say about yo, bro, you dope. I'm just kind
- 8:56of coming into that, like not saying that I'm dope, but knowing that
- 9:01I belong. Um. Yeah, And I think me being a competitor right
- 9:05me like you were saying earlier, not being a us growing up and saying
- 9:09you don't punk out to anything. Everything you face you conquer. You face
- 9:15it to conquer. You don't face it just to be a part of it.
- 9:16You're facing the conquer. You face it to win. So me,
- 9:20me and an athlete all my life and being a competitor when I started getting
- 9:26those times when it was rough on me, and I just wanted to kind
- 9:28of like, you know what, I don't think this is for me.
- 9:31Um. I have a conversation man with the most high and a lot of
- 9:35people say, man, God talk to me. When I was younger,
- 9:37hasty I used to think God used to have to talk to you like you
- 9:39and I used to have to hear his voice like I'm still think that sometimes.
- 9:46So right, So this this inner voice. And when I started to
- 9:52learn more about spirituality instead of religion, I understood that God speaks to you
- 9:58from within you. So when he spoke to me bro, I wrote this
- 10:01piece called the Art, and that piece kind of gives people this conversation that
- 10:07I have with God and he kind of let me know at the end of
- 10:11it. It ends with you would never to be a poetry artist because I
- 10:16meant you to be the art. When I started the first time, I
- 10:20kind of spit that people were like WHOA. And I started to understand and
- 10:26believe that I'm more than just a a poetry artist. I am the art
- 10:33of poetry. You know what I'm saying, and and and and just me
- 10:37being a competitive broad is just and not wanting to let my my family down,
- 10:43Like just quit, You're just quit on poet. You just quit for
- 10:48something simple. It's getting up in front of people speaking, that's it.
- 10:50So yeah, that's why it keeps me going. Man. And see,
- 10:54I've relate, I relate so well of that because it's just like sometimes live
- 10:58like, man, I don't even no more. I want to like books,
- 11:01you know, I'm done with it, all this grinding early in the
- 11:03morning, late nights. I ain't got no personal life, no nothing.
- 11:07And but then it's like God gave me this talent. Man, maybe I
- 11:13don't have to write. I can write doing something else. Right, And
- 11:20I watched and I see you going to these different places. I'm like,
- 11:24yeah, that's that's that's what we wanted at to begin it. So can
- 11:28I still have that fire to keep going? And see, that's that's that's
- 11:31what makes it so amazing. Like you're saying about people supporting each other,
- 11:35like I watch you, that'll make me want to keep going when we feel
- 11:39like giving up, Right you You, if you don't know, you are
- 11:43inspiration to others, man, when you post how you at your shows or
- 11:46you're showing up for these groups. Man, you inspire others like me and
- 11:52whoever's watching you. Because sometimes we feel like this game ain't worth it,
- 11:56but it is because we got something that everybody don't have, right right,
- 12:01that that means a lot to me. Bro, For you to say that
- 12:05to me, that means a lot to me and and you are in this
- 12:11vice versa because when I see you posting, it's like, man, my
- 12:15bro got my back, I can't. I gotta keep pushing, you know
- 12:18what I'm saying. So like like like when you be like if I post
- 12:22something, you share it, I'm like, man, why he had to
- 12:24share that? Now I got to really go. You know what I'm saying,
- 12:26like, oh man, this man, oh god, because I see
- 12:31it. Wan't nobody share if you if no nobody else share a boy,
- 12:33I don't see flue legit. I'm like, god, you know, you
- 12:41know what it is now, you know what it is. It's that it's
- 12:43that share. See you might only get one ship and you'd be like,
- 12:48man, don't nobody to be looking at my post? Man, ain't nobody
- 12:50paying no attention? But if one person might be paying attention, and that's
- 12:54all you need, like like I don't cant I get one light? I'm
- 12:56gonna keep post because that's that that's that ground that we do. They don't
- 13:01understand that grind. This is that grind and it's not that we braging.
- 13:05This is an everything thing that we do. Right, this is my lacklihood,
- 13:11you know, So why are you on here. You know you gotta
- 13:16walk Mike. You know you gotta give us something man. Yeah, I
- 13:20know you gotta know you got something for us. Uh, let's see.
- 13:24Um. Yeah, I got you, I got you, I got you,
- 13:28I got you. Um. I'll do this piece. I hain't done
- 13:31this piece in a minute. I'll do this piece right here. Um.
- 13:35And I'm not a singer now, I'm a poet, so my voice is
- 13:39horrible. I do this little bit to kind of break them a knotting of
- 13:43how it goes down. So can they tell me why every time I stepped
- 13:50outside, I see my people thought, I'm letting you know that there ain't
- 13:58no one out there that can kill my soul. She driving while it's black
- 14:07seems to be a death trap. And that's why I pray for my life
- 14:09in these times while they prey on mind. Now, if I find myself
- 14:13in this awkward bond, should I rather be judged by twelve and reach from
- 14:16a nine or hold my hands up high and comply? But even that's still
- 14:20guaranteed. A black boy won't die because their whole court in the streets to
- 14:24me, like me, being black is committing the crime. See mister officer.
- 14:26I know that I'm inclined to be the victim of your very next mistake.
- 14:31One false move is all it takes for me to make the timeline on
- 14:33Facebook. But a closed casket at my wake? Or do I take the
- 14:37chance and they'll understand that every black man is not a criminal. Yet they
- 14:41see me as a threat. That's why the stops become physical, because there's
- 14:46no theme or threatening than a black man with purpose. See this makes you
- 14:50nervous, so your service and protect your racist mindset. Although I do as
- 14:54you ask, put my hands up, lay down, face down, But
- 14:56for you that's not enough. You'd rather be asked to ashes and dust to
- 15:01dust. And when you kneeled on my neck, I guess you were just
- 15:03paying your respects to your red, white and blue lights, right, or
- 15:07maybe like Colin Kaepernick to your star strangel banner. I know all life suppressive
- 15:13of black lives seem to be the only ones that don't matter. As Afro
- 15:16aims are constantly being shot to death and I can't Breathe simply means amade running
- 15:20out of breath. Wait, let me guess even when you fired those shots,
- 15:26they really weren't intended, meaning that was just your rendition of a twenty
- 15:30one gun saloot with no taps. See you tilt fitted caps with no snap
- 15:33back, while back at the precinct you're greeded with standing ovations and handclaps.
- 15:37And perhaps you receiveing awards or award for your actions. But this ain't no
- 15:41movie and this ain't act because unlike Ice he we ain't surviving the game.
- 15:48And we've been waiting for this change, waiting for Sam cook saying, and
- 15:52doctor King stood on that mountain said he heard freedom rain. Now I find
- 15:54this oddly stranger of the goddamn shame. The even kings dreams now seemed to
- 16:00be nightmares, riddled with tear drops and rolls, panels spread like buckshots on
- 16:03black pots, with headstones on tunes reading Gone to Soon, with too much
- 16:08slow singing, black suits filling the room. Even if I assume the position,
- 16:14because you take the fact that I'm black, it's giving you permission to
- 16:17kill it will or maybe you feel if you did it, you be acquitted.
- 16:21See, they know we march a little bit, but we soon forget
- 16:22it. Then we say that cop of those cops, so that means we
- 16:26won't even remember who did it. Now, I get it. This doesn't
- 16:29apply to every single cop, so I'm not condoning that they be beaten,
- 16:32killed, or shot. But see, this is where the thickening comes into
- 16:36my plot, being that I always seem to somehow fit their descriptions and whatnot.
- 16:41So one must understand how this places me between a rock and a hard
- 16:47spot as to what should I do when driving while it's black and I get
- 16:55stopped. That's that piece, Heavy, I think your mic is off.
- 17:15What do you see yourself two to three years from now? Two to three
- 17:19years from now, Um, I look to be traveling even before that.
- 17:29Man, I'm I'm, I'm, I'm. I'm believing in the most high,
- 17:33believing in this pro vision, and I know his pro vision gives me
- 17:37this vision. And I think even in less than a year, less than
- 17:40two years, Heavy, I see myself traveling from state to state, taking
- 17:45my open mic from state to state and actually speaking to people and doing like
- 17:52what they consider motivational speaking. Bro, that's what I see. You're the
- 17:59man for it. You know, I thought about that man's you know,
- 18:03it's just I think, like you said, you gotta have faith in that
- 18:07that's to step out on faith to do right right and I see you doing
- 18:12that, man, I see you doing big things and everything. And UM,
- 18:15let everybody know where they can follow you, where they can get your
- 18:18your books, your poetry, whatever you got out right now got you?
