- 0:00Speaker 1: The lonely house. I know some lonely houses off the
- 0:03Speaker 1: road a robber'd like the look of. Wooden barred and
- 0:07Speaker 1: windows hanging low, inviting to a portico where two could creep.
- 0:12Speaker 1: One hand the tools, the other peep to make sure
- 0:15Speaker 1: all's asleep. Old-fashioned eyes. Not easy to surprise. How orderly
- 0:21Speaker 1: the kitchens look by night with just a clock. But
- 0:24Speaker 1: they could gag the tick and mice won't bark. And
- 0:27Speaker 1: so the walls don't tell. A pair of spectacles afar
- 0:32Speaker 1: just stir, an almanac's aware. Was it the mat winked
- 0:36Speaker 1: or a nervous star? The moon slides down the stair
- 0:40Speaker 1: to see who's there. There's plunder. Where? Tankard or spoon,
- 0:45Speaker 1: earring or stone, a watch, some ancient brooch to match
- 0:49Speaker 1: the grandmama, stayed sleeping there. Day rattles too, stealth slow.
- 0:56Speaker 1: The sun has got as far as the third sycamore.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Screams chanticleer, who's there? And echoes trains away, sneer, where?
- 1:06Speaker 1: While the old couple, just a stir, fancy the sunrise
- 1:09Speaker 1: left the door ajar.
