- 0:00Speaker 1: All right here on the One that Up Network. The
- 0:03Speaker 1: One Leg Up Alex blog of the Year made a
- 0:08Speaker 1: difference this year because I got a flyer today from
- 0:12Speaker 1: the LERR that states, as I've said before, but it's
- 0:16Speaker 1: confirmed on the pamphlet, reduced fair will be available at
- 0:20Speaker 1: all hours of the day beginning January fourth, twenty twenty six,
- 0:25Speaker 1: all hours of the day. And I do believe that
- 0:29Speaker 1: the Daily News deciding to publish my little lot bad
- 0:33Speaker 1: about how the disabled should have fair affairs played a role.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Call me crazy because I know that we're board meetings,
- 0:40Speaker 1: after board meetings, hearings, after hearings, people would were out
- 0:44Speaker 1: making their voice heard. But in January of twenty twenty five,
- 0:48Speaker 1: I wrote that blog about how there needs to be
- 0:50Speaker 1: fairer fairs, especially with congestion pricing, and I don't know,
- 0:55Speaker 1: I'd like to think here at the One Leg Up Network,
- 0:57Speaker 1: that played a role, and we can all take a
- 1:01Speaker 1: victory lap to pay thirteen dollars because the LR thought, well,
- 1:09Speaker 1: the disabled only go out for leisure events or you know,
- 1:12Speaker 1: medical appointments, really missed the point. And I made a
- 1:17Speaker 1: point to talk about that over and over this year.
- 1:22Speaker 1: That's how frustrated. It was getting that those emails were
- 1:25Speaker 1: coming back to me. Yeah, you know, we only thought
- 1:27Speaker 1: that we couldn't accommodate the disabled community during rush hour
- 1:31Speaker 1: because hey, we only thought they go to medical appointments
- 1:34Speaker 1: and leisure events. What do we look like, simpletons? No,
- 1:40Speaker 1: we freaking work our asses off. And I feel like
- 1:44Speaker 1: that's finally being recognized by saying, yes, the disabled do
- 1:50Speaker 1: deserve reduced fare at all hours. Yes, they do travel
- 1:55Speaker 1: during rush hour time. They are not invalids that just
- 1:59Speaker 1: go on leisure events and medical appointments. I'm that fired
- 2:04Speaker 1: up about this because it shows that advocacy works. Advocacy
- 2:11Speaker 1: changes things, and the people that went to those hearings,
- 2:14Speaker 1: including by the way, Ryan Curtis Sliwa, who would go
- 2:17Speaker 1: to those different hearings, by the way, made a difference.
- 2:22Speaker 1: So keep advocating in twenty twenty six, and if if
- 2:25Speaker 1: you like doing an op ed, submit it. It could
- 2:29Speaker 1: change lives. And I really amped up when I started
- 2:35Speaker 1: to come in here more in the rush hour and
- 2:38Speaker 1: I saw, man, the half fairly does not apply here.
- 2:44Speaker 1: And I continue to press and ask and figure out, Hey,
- 2:48Speaker 1: you know what my next goal is for twenty twenty six,
- 2:51Speaker 1: and maybe he may Or Elect Mumdonnie can help me
- 2:53Speaker 1: with this. Maybe we stop having ADA doors guarded so
- 3:00Speaker 1: they can focus on the actual fare beaters in twenty
- 3:04Speaker 1: twenty six, that should be the next goal is to
- 3:07Speaker 1: shift those guards from the ADA doors who are literally
- 3:12Speaker 1: stopping people with disabilities from coming in. While a homeless
- 3:17Speaker 1: guy can light someone on fire in Brooklyn, someone could
- 3:22Speaker 1: shove someone off the tracks in Manhattan, yet scared of
- 3:27Speaker 1: the disabled for fair beating, that's my next task. Here
- 3:31Speaker 1: are the one on up network. We've done it. We
- 3:33Speaker 1: have convinced the LRR collectively to change their reduced fair policy.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Now let's change the policy of ADA doors. Not only
- 3:45Speaker 1: that they lock the ADA door for fifteen seconds. What
- 3:48Speaker 1: if there's an emergency, it cannot happen anymore. These these
- 3:54Speaker 1: guards get paid hundreds of dollars to literally let the
- 3:58Speaker 1: floodgates in. Except the disabled should be evaluated, reevaluate it.
- 4:06Speaker 1: So what do you think, Mayor Elect Mum Donnie, do
- 4:09Speaker 1: you want to take that on? If you don't think
- 4:11Speaker 1: we should be fined or a summons for fair beating,
- 4:14Speaker 1: then we shouldn't have anybody in near the eight doors
- 4:16Speaker 1: in twenty twenty six. If that's your case, and yes,
- 4:19Speaker 1: the disabled should ride for free if fair beaters can
- 4:22Speaker 1: ride for free. Let me say that again, the disabled
- 4:26Speaker 1: should ride for free if the fair beaters can get
- 4:30Speaker 1: away with it. It's only fair, right. So there you go,
- 4:36Speaker 1: mister socialists. Mum Donnie, there's your fair trade off. You
- 4:40Speaker 1: don't want a summons those who fair beat, then do
- 4:44Speaker 1: not charge disabled. Tell Hukal not to charge disabled because
- 4:48Speaker 1: remember she runs the MTA along with General Libor it's
- 4:51Speaker 1: a state control entity. But maybe if you don't want
- 4:55Speaker 1: fair beaters to be charged, to be summons to be fined,
- 4:59Speaker 1: then maybe you just get rid of the guards in
- 5:01Speaker 1: the ADA doors and let us go in without impediment.
- 5:10Speaker 1: That's the next goal is to make that fair because
- 5:13Speaker 1: why are five people going in who are perfectly able bodied. Yep,
- 5:19Speaker 1: when the disabled people come through, they shut the door immediately.
- 5:22Speaker 1: You've got to pay. It's infuriating. And that's my next
- 5:28Speaker 1: goal here on the Onely Up Network to stop the
- 5:34Speaker 1: ADA door insanity. And I'll lean on may or like
- 5:37Speaker 1: Mum Donnie to help me with that if he wants
- 5:40Speaker 1: to join my podcast. If you want to join my podcast,
- 5:44Speaker 1: but for now we'll take the victory lap we might
- 5:48Speaker 1: have as a network, as a group, as those who
- 5:52Speaker 1: went to the hearings change the minds of the board
- 5:56Speaker 1: at the LR because they are changing their ways and
- 6:03Speaker 1: they are helping New Yorkers and disabled commuters have one
- 6:06Speaker 1: leg up on their commute by in stating that fairness
- 6:12Speaker 1: policy of reduced fare all day long. Cannot wait for
- 6:19Speaker 1: January fourth, twenty twenty six. I want to get I
- 6:21Speaker 1: want to enjoy Hanikah. I want to go enjoy Christmas.
- 6:24Speaker 1: I don't want to enjoy. I do want to enjoy
- 6:26Speaker 1: the new year. But I'm excited to see how January fourth,
- 6:29Speaker 1: twenty twenty six works out. See what happens after that,
- 6:32Speaker 1: See how many more people are in bold and if
- 6:34Speaker 1: they're disabled, to actually ride in the LR during rush hour.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Now that this policy is in place and here at
- 6:43Speaker 1: one leg up, Alex, as we headed the twenty twenty
- 6:45Speaker 1: six we'll continue that mantra of always adapting and having
- 6:51Speaker 1: one up on life
