- 0:03Speaker 1: Fam, it is Tuesday, it's Braun, it's Krats, it's Prazinski,
- 0:08Speaker 1: and it is Luke Eric Day. So every year June second,
- 0:13Speaker 1: when did they start this? I mean, I'm kind of
- 0:14Speaker 1: spitballing here, but did they have this for you guys
- 0:17Speaker 1: the whole run through, like in terms of doing a
- 0:20Speaker 1: lot for it or no.
- 0:22Speaker 2: No, I never hearing anything about this.
- 0:25Speaker 3: Okay, Really.
- 0:28Speaker 1: It's definitely hyped up a lot more recently, Kratz.
- 0:31Speaker 2: I mean it definitely got bigger.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Yes, red wrist band.
- 0:36Speaker 2: I don't remember ever really.
- 0:38Speaker 4: I mean there was you know, ALS Awareness Day or whatever,
- 0:41Speaker 4: but it was never a big deal. It was just
- 0:43Speaker 4: kind of okay, we didn't do anything special for it
- 0:47Speaker 4: that I ever remember.
- 0:48Speaker 5: Twenty twenty one, it says June second, twenty twenty one
- 0:51Speaker 5: is when it started. But I was thinking I was
- 0:53Speaker 5: going to say it started all the way back when I
- 0:55Speaker 5: was with the Phillies, because but the Phillies the ownership
- 0:59Speaker 5: like mister Montgomery and the I'm trying to think who
- 1:03Speaker 5: the other partners were at the time, but I mean
- 1:07Speaker 5: the Milton's were with it. They were very huge into
- 1:09Speaker 5: ALS funding and research and all that stuff, and so
- 1:13Speaker 5: I remember that. That's what we did it every every
- 1:16Speaker 5: year all three years I played there. We had we
- 1:18Speaker 5: had something significant, but I so I was way off.
- 1:21Speaker 5: I thought we did I thought we did something.
- 1:24Speaker 1: So it's you know, today is the day that Lou
- 1:26Speaker 1: Garrig started his consecutive game streak and then also his
- 1:30Speaker 1: passing from ALS. He passed away on this day. There's
- 1:35Speaker 1: the four, the number four decals that'll be warned, so
- 1:37Speaker 1: you'll you'll hear a lot throughout the day in games.
- 1:41Speaker 1: We also have a show that focused on ALS awareness
- 1:45Speaker 1: and its ties to baseball. Near and dear to the
- 1:49Speaker 1: heart of the Kircheins. Tim lost his brother Matt from ALS.
- 1:54Speaker 1: So here's a little clip from their latest episode.
- 1:58Speaker 6: We go to Mount Sat Mary's that day. I'll never
- 2:01Speaker 6: forget this the rest of my life. And when we
- 2:03Speaker 6: get there, Ross gives Matt a ALS I mean a
- 2:08Speaker 6: Catholic University jersey, says Cardinals cross the front and it's
- 2:12Speaker 6: got m Kirkchin number two, which is the number he
- 2:15Speaker 6: wore for four.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Years on the back.
- 2:17Speaker 6: And Matt went to the mound and threw an athletic strike,
- 2:23Speaker 6: just as we thought he would, even though he had
- 2:25Speaker 6: to relearn how to catch a baseball and.
- 2:28Speaker 1: How to release it.
- 2:29Speaker 4: You know, it's just incredible with those hands.
- 2:32Speaker 6: He looked to his left and by that point, the
- 2:34Speaker 6: entire his entire intimate family, me, daughter's sons, we were
- 2:41Speaker 6: there wearing Catholic University jerseys with M. Kirkchin on the back,
- 2:46Speaker 6: number two. And then he looked further to his left
- 2:49Speaker 6: and the entire Catholic University team, all forty eight players,
- 2:53Speaker 6: were wearing SeeU jerseys with M. Kirkchin number two on
- 2:58Speaker 6: the back. And that's when Matt to me and said,
- 3:01Speaker 6: I can't believe they're doing this for me. What Matt
- 3:04Speaker 6: didn't understand is that they wouldn't do this for anybody
- 3:08Speaker 6: else but him, because he personified what being a great
- 3:13Speaker 6: teammate is. Jeff and I tell people all the time,
- 3:18Speaker 6: the greatest compliment you can pay to anyone in sports
- 3:22Speaker 6: or outside of sports is he's a great teammate. The
- 3:24Speaker 6: worst thing you can say is he's a terrible teammate.
- 3:27Speaker 6: Uncle Matt was the best teammate, which is why they
- 3:30Speaker 6: named an award after him.
- 3:34Speaker 1: That's Simon Jeff there on multiple times a week. It's
- 3:37Speaker 1: really good what they do for the game. Part of
- 3:40Speaker 1: the Ft network. Is this a great game or what?
- 3:42Speaker 1: But if you want that whole episode, it's up. Boot
- 3:44Speaker 1: Shambi is their guest on that one, and I encourage
- 3:48Speaker 1: you to check it out. I gets the emotional that's
- 3:51Speaker 1: is this a great game or what? And also last
- 3:54Speaker 1: thing on the day today, you'll see a lot of
- 3:56Speaker 1: these shirts baseball is the best. That's the classic Sarah
- 4:00Speaker 1: Lang shirt. So I got that a while back. Sarah's awesome.
- 4:05Speaker 1: She is, you know, one of the great faces of
- 4:08Speaker 1: our sport in terms of you know, statistics and research
- 4:10Speaker 1: and also just enjoying the sport. So always shouting out
- 4:14Speaker 1: to Sarah on a day like today. And now let's
- 4:18Speaker 1: charge charge, all right? So AJ yesterday I brought this
- 4:24Speaker 1: up before charge just to give them love and said, hey,
- 4:26Speaker 1: we'll give them more love at some point this week.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Let's do it today. The Mariners have won seven straight
- 4:31Speaker 1: and in Seattle they were freaking out for the first
- 4:34Speaker 1: couple of months. I was not. I don't think you worried.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Were you freaking out at the beginning of the season
- 4:40Speaker 1: when you saw what they were doing, or were you like, eh,
- 4:42Speaker 1: this looks good in structure.
- 4:44Speaker 4: I'm pretty sure that I kept saying the Mariners are
- 4:46Speaker 4: going to win this division. I just kept saying it
- 4:48Speaker 4: over and over again. I was never I was never
- 4:50Speaker 4: worried because, first of all, I don't think the A's
- 4:53Speaker 4: pitching is there. They can hit, but they give up
- 4:55Speaker 4: a lot of runs. I also feel like the Mariners
- 4:58Speaker 4: are just the best team. They have the experience. I
- 5:00Speaker 4: know they lost Cal Rawley, he wasn't really doing much,
- 5:02Speaker 4: but Rose Reina, Julio the rest of that crew are
- 5:06Speaker 4: doing a lot of things really well. And their bullpen
- 5:08Speaker 4: is the best bullpen in that division for me. Their
- 5:10Speaker 4: starters are the best starters in that division. For me,
- 5:13Speaker 4: it was just a matter of time until they got
- 5:15Speaker 4: it going.
- 5:15Speaker 2: And here they are.
- 5:15Speaker 4: They're in first place, They're hottest fire, and they're gonna
- 5:19Speaker 4: be fine.
- 5:20Speaker 2: Do I think they can win the World Series? I
- 5:21Speaker 2: don't know.
- 5:22Speaker 4: Do I think they can get to the World Series?
- 5:24Speaker 4: They think they can get there. I just I mean,
- 5:26Speaker 4: I think they're one of the better teams in the Yale.
- 5:29Speaker 1: I think they can. I mean, they were as close
- 5:32Speaker 1: as you can get last year without getting there, right Kratz,
- 5:35Speaker 1: They went to a Game seven, and for me, you
- 5:38Speaker 1: look at the trade deadline, you had a bat, you
- 5:40Speaker 1: had a high leverage arm. I think they would have
- 5:43Speaker 1: what it takes with the rotation and enough of a
- 5:47Speaker 1: supporting staff on offense. This is also assuming that Cale
- 5:51Speaker 1: comes back and looks like a version of Cal from
- 5:55Speaker 1: twenty three and twenty four and twenty five. Doesn't have
- 5:57Speaker 1: to be a sixty homer guy, But is it a
- 5:59Speaker 1: thirty five homer decent on base clutch hitting catcher who's
- 6:04Speaker 1: also defensively one of the best in the game.
- 6:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:07Speaker 5: I mean, I think we all agreed that it was
- 6:09Speaker 5: going to be the playoffs for them. But the playoffs,
- 6:13Speaker 5: when they're there, they need to hit. They need to
- 6:17Speaker 5: figure out how to hit. Is there tiny bit of
- 6:20Speaker 5: a drop in strikeout rate?
- 6:23Speaker 3: Enough?
- 6:24Speaker 5: Is the fact that is Julio going to be able
- 6:27Speaker 5: to step up in the playoffs? Cal had amazing playoffs
- 6:30Speaker 5: last time. They gotta be able to hit because they're
- 6:33Speaker 5: gonna most likely go up against Right now, you're looking
- 6:35Speaker 5: at the Rays or the Yankees, two completely different things,
- 6:38Speaker 5: two completely different teams, but they both score a lot
- 6:41Speaker 5: of runs. So they have to be able to score runs.
- 6:43Speaker 5: I don't care how good your pitching is, got to score.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Are they going to get the healthy Brendan Donovan. To me,
- 6:51Speaker 1: I loved that pickup and AJ when he's played, he's hit,
- 6:54Speaker 1: you know, he's just he's missed time twice. Now you know.
- 6:57Speaker 1: It went back on the shelf quickly. The returning for
- 7:01Speaker 1: it was about a week eight thirty nine ohps four
- 7:04Speaker 1: fifty two, slug three eighty six on base, Like that
- 7:07Speaker 1: is what you sign up for. When you get Brendan Donovan.
- 7:09Speaker 1: You just need to get them back for the stretch
- 7:11Speaker 1: run right, you get a good second half out of
- 7:13Speaker 1: Brandon Donovan. Always hit, always get on base.
- 7:17Speaker 4: Yeah, they always That was the one thing about him.
- 7:19Speaker 4: It was never a question whether he could hit or
- 7:21Speaker 4: get on base. That's why they was so valuable and
- 7:23Speaker 4: that's why they went out and got them. It just
- 7:26Speaker 4: it comes down to me to what Krad said, They
- 7:27Speaker 4: got to hit in the postseason. They're gonna get there.
- 7:29Speaker 4: They're gonna be They're gonna have their pitching with Gilbert
- 7:33Speaker 4: and Kirby. Castillo's kind of figured it out, Hancock, Miller,
- 7:38Speaker 4: Brian wou There. I mean, they've got pitching and Munios
- 7:41Speaker 4: at the back end, Aspire and the rest of these guys.
- 7:43Speaker 4: They have so it comes on again. Can they hit
- 7:46Speaker 4: enough and can they hit enough to beat a team
- 7:49Speaker 4: like the Yankees with Cole Rodin Freed Schlitzler that that team,
- 7:52Speaker 4: that's that's gonna be. The real question for me is
- 7:54Speaker 4: can they hit enough to beat the Yankees? Because I
- 7:56Speaker 4: think the Yankees and them are probably at the end
- 7:58Speaker 4: of the year going to be the pride of the
- 7:59Speaker 4: American League with the way things look right now.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Kratz, I know you love dad jokes. This is not
- 8:05Speaker 1: a joke. Ridges five and one Travel Power Bank is
- 8:08Speaker 1: the answer to all of your messy wires all over
- 8:11Speaker 1: the place issues.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Yeah, one hundred percent. I don't need more tube socks.
- 8:16Speaker 5: I need this because somebody is going to use my
- 8:18Speaker 5: phone that I fully charged and then dies halfway through
- 8:21Speaker 5: the softball game that I go to. So this will
- 8:24Speaker 5: lock it in and my friend next to me who
- 8:26Speaker 5: forgot to charge his phone.

- 9:00Speaker 1: you purchase the last where you heard about them, Please
- 9:02Speaker 1: support our show and tell them we sent you.
- 9:04Speaker 5: And if you look at it, the two the guys
- 9:06Speaker 5: that they added, they got Nailer last year at the
- 9:08Speaker 5: break and then they added him back in free agency. Yes,
- 9:11Speaker 5: he's gonna have to step up. All these guys are
- 9:13Speaker 5: going to step up. But I think the big thing
- 9:14Speaker 5: is going to be how does Cole Young look? How
- 9:17Speaker 5: does Cole Emerson look? When playoff time comes around? Are
- 9:21Speaker 5: you leaning on rookies to have big at bats in
- 9:24Speaker 5: the postseason against an older veteran pitching staff lineup like
- 9:28Speaker 5: the Yankees.
- 9:30Speaker 1: We'll see, Yeah, we'll see. I mean also, if everything
- 9:33Speaker 1: is intact on playoff time, you'll have some decision making.
- 9:38Speaker 1: I'll run through the offense. While we're looking at the
- 9:40Speaker 1: board here of team stats. So AJ you've got JP
- 9:45Speaker 1: Crawford at short, Julio Rodriguez at center, first base, Naylor
- 9:50Speaker 1: left field or Rose Arena right field, Rayley, and obviously
- 9:53Speaker 1: there's some platoon action here, Cole Young at second, Dhsken
- 9:56Speaker 1: Zone Parader. Right now, they've got a couple catchers, Garber
- 10:00Speaker 1: backing up Riley, but Riley will be back, and then
- 10:02Speaker 1: cold Emerson at third. When you get Brendan Donoman back,
- 10:07Speaker 1: that then to me, put some competition on between Cole
- 10:11Speaker 1: Young and cold Emerson in a good way. And also,
- 10:13Speaker 1: come playoff time, you still can have both of them
- 10:15Speaker 1: on the roster and you might just not have one
- 10:17Speaker 1: playing very consistently. That creates some nice depth, little bench
- 10:21Speaker 1: action for the team. To me, the names that I
- 10:23Speaker 1: just listed, when you include cal and Donovan, I think
- 10:27Speaker 1: that's a lineup that can get you too a World Series.
- 10:30Speaker 1: Can you add one more bat? You can? Do you
- 10:32Speaker 1: need one? I'm not sure relief pitching wise, and.
- 10:35Speaker 2: I don't know where you put it.
- 10:37Speaker 4: Where do you put on that You don't want to stunt.
- 10:40Speaker 4: You don't want to stunt your your young guys growth
- 10:43Speaker 4: in Young and Emerson, right, So you're worry about that,
- 10:46Speaker 4: and you already have Donovan who plays third so really
- 10:48Speaker 4: your only spot is second base. You're not gonna get
- 10:51Speaker 4: put a guy in front of JP Crawford. Maybe you
- 10:54Speaker 4: are right fielder, I guess maybe I mean a Roseerina
- 10:57Speaker 4: and Julio and then you find it everyday right fielder
- 10:59Speaker 4: or dah Canzone was pretty good for him in the postseason.
- 11:02Speaker 4: I know he's kind of a platoony guy against lefties,
- 11:05Speaker 4: but I don't know.
- 11:06Speaker 2: I just don't know where you put a bat. Where
- 11:07Speaker 2: would you put him? That's the question for me.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Yeah, Raley and ken Zone right.
- 11:12Speaker 5: No, it's rough Schnyder, it's Ref. Schneider faces lefties, and
- 11:18Speaker 5: so I have a hard time believing the cash strap
- 11:20Speaker 5: Mariners are going to make a.
- 11:21Speaker 3: Big move like that.
- 11:23Speaker 5: They already went out paid Ref Snyder, so they have
- 11:25Speaker 5: their guy to face lefties, and then can Zone's in
- 11:29Speaker 5: there when the rights are out there. So I think
- 11:33Speaker 5: I think the position is d H and I think
- 11:35Speaker 5: it's going to be between those guys of who who
- 11:38Speaker 5: steps up. So a big move, I don't know, Just
- 11:41Speaker 5: because they made a big move last year and they
- 11:43Speaker 5: signed some guys in free agency, I don't know. I
- 11:45Speaker 5: think it's still the same old Mariners.
- 11:48Speaker 1: We've got another arm. You can always use another high
- 11:50Speaker 1: leverage arm. Guys that it's already a good bullpen I know.
- 11:54Speaker 1: But like for me aj if there's if there's a
- 11:57Speaker 1: high leverage arm, like you know how most years there
- 12:00Speaker 1: there's one or two, right, go get that durand that's open.
- 12:04Speaker 1: I mean, you don't need him to be the closer,
- 12:05Speaker 1: but go get a guy who's high leverage if he
- 12:07Speaker 1: is available. Because you've got Munos, Brash, Ferrer's been really
- 12:11Speaker 1: solid for them, Bizardo, Spire, like you mentioned, there's good
- 12:15Speaker 1: names here, but go get another.
- 12:18Speaker 4: Well, they pay the price though. It's kind of what
- 12:20Speaker 4: Crash just said. The Mariners they don't like to do
- 12:23Speaker 4: that a whole lot. They always are they they cry
- 12:26Speaker 4: poor just as good as any other team does. So
- 12:28Speaker 4: I don't know that they would do that. I would
- 12:30Speaker 4: love for them to do it, but I don't know
- 12:31Speaker 4: that they're going to. I think the I think the
- 12:34Speaker 4: Mariners also with the Poto and what he's been through
- 12:36Speaker 4: the last couple of years, he's he likes his teams, man.
- 12:39Speaker 4: He likes his teams the way he likes his teams,
- 12:41Speaker 4: and he sets him up for a certain way and
- 12:44Speaker 4: he doesn't love to. I mean, last hear the Suarez
- 12:47Speaker 4: and Naylor, But those positions are filled now, so sure,
- 12:49Speaker 4: go out and get another arm. Every team wants another arm.
- 12:52Speaker 4: There's not one team out there that says man, I
- 12:53Speaker 4: wish we had no more pitching. I wish we had
- 12:56Speaker 4: less pitching than what we have. Every team has. Every
- 12:59Speaker 4: team out there, goes Man, and I wish we had
- 13:01Speaker 4: one or two more arms that we could figure out,
- 13:03Speaker 4: but every nobody they're too expensive.
- 13:05Speaker 2: I don't know they'll do it. How about this? How
- 13:08Speaker 2: about this?
- 13:09Speaker 1: I like it? Yeah, you know, it's the one team
- 13:12Speaker 1: that I would kind of rule out because they've got
- 13:15Speaker 1: a lot of pitching. And actually Emerson Hancock yesterday was
- 13:17Speaker 1: great again too. He's really emerged and found it for them.
- 13:19Speaker 1: So I don't know if they'll be in the running.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Every team would want them, but I don't know if
- 13:23Speaker 1: they'll pay the price that other teams are going to
- 13:24Speaker 1: pay that are in much more desperate need of starting pitching. Anyway,
- 13:28Speaker 1: there's a lot more Mariners talk. You know, the new
- 13:30Speaker 1: show we talked about refused to lose territory, So it's
- 13:33Speaker 1: there for you if you'd like more in depth analysis
- 13:36Speaker 1: on this team. Brady Farcas is great. It's part of
- 13:39Speaker 1: the ft network. Hey, we're here and there's just a
- 13:44Speaker 1: little trade that occurred justin Lawrence going to the Twins
- 13:48Speaker 1: for cash. It just gives us a chance to actually
- 13:50Speaker 1: talk about the Pirates bullpen with aj who missed both
- 13:53Speaker 1: days of the controversy in Pittsburgh. Lawrence, by the way,
- 13:57Speaker 1: twenty three appearances of five three two era Pirates Bullen
- 14:00Speaker 1: has been great. Should be a little better, as they
- 14:02Speaker 1: add Majinski if he wants to, you know, be there.
- 14:05Speaker 1: He doesn't right now, but he's gonna have to deal
- 14:07Speaker 1: with it tonight. What did you think we didn't have
- 14:10Speaker 1: you for both of those days? What did you think
- 14:11Speaker 1: of all of that?
- 14:13Speaker 2: Well, so, I mean I missed a lot of it.
- 14:15Speaker 4: But what so they said he's going to the bullpen
- 14:18Speaker 4: and he basically said, no, I'm not going to the bullpen.
- 14:20Speaker 2: Is that kind of the gist of what happened?
- 14:22Speaker 4: He said, you know what we're then we're going to
- 14:25Speaker 4: just put you on this administrative leave for the next
- 14:27Speaker 4: few days and you can think about it.
- 14:28Speaker 2: And then he's like, well, I don't have anywhere else
- 14:30Speaker 2: to go, so I gotta go to the.
- 14:31Speaker 1: Bullpen restricted list where you don't get paid and you
- 14:35Speaker 1: don't get service time, so even more than administratively because
- 14:38Speaker 1: that's usually paid. So they were like, you're not ready
- 14:40Speaker 1: to pitch. This is what we're asking you to do.
- 14:42Speaker 1: You push the chips back his way and he's like, cool,
- 14:46Speaker 1: I'm gonna pitch on Tuesday.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Uh yeah, okay, well I guess he's gonna pitch on Tuesday.
- 14:52Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 14:53Speaker 4: This is remember Aaron Savali last year with the Brewers
- 14:55Speaker 4: when he went and said, hey, I don't want to
- 14:57Speaker 4: pitch in the bullpen, and they traded him to the
- 15:00Speaker 4: White Sox and got Andrew Vaughn, who's maybe the Pirates
- 15:02Speaker 4: go on and trade him. I don't know what they're
- 15:03Speaker 4: going to do with him, But you didn't. You don't
- 15:05Speaker 4: have a choice. As much as you want to fight
- 15:07Speaker 4: this and say this and that, he didn't have a choice.
- 15:10Speaker 4: If they want to pitch at the bullpen, you know
- 15:12Speaker 4: how you get back in the rotation. You go pitch
- 15:14Speaker 4: really well in the bullpen, and then you get yourself
- 15:16Speaker 4: a chance to go pitch in the starting rotation again.
- 15:19Speaker 3: Sorry, I blame somebody around the pirate you're a starter.
- 15:25Speaker 1: Say it all right. Pirates don't want to trade him,
- 15:27Speaker 1: they want starting pitching deb for sure, A J I
- 15:33Speaker 1: almost did a double take when I saw the email
- 15:35Speaker 1: and realized it was Player of the Week, not Picture
- 15:39Speaker 1: of the Month, but the highly debated who should win
- 15:42Speaker 1: Picture of the Month Christopher Sanchez or miss topic. Is
- 15:46Speaker 1: the first time I can remember any conversation really about
- 15:50Speaker 1: who's winning a monthly award in our sports. So that
- 15:53Speaker 1: part is cool, but that hasn't come out yet. Christopher
- 15:56Speaker 1: Sanchez wasn't mentioned on the noteworthy performances. Did he only
- 15:59Speaker 1: have one start last week? Is that part of it too? Krats?
- 16:02Speaker 1: He pitched in the middle of the week, so maybe
- 16:04Speaker 1: that's part of it. But anyway, miss one picture or
- 16:06Speaker 1: Player of the Week in the National League for what
- 16:09Speaker 1: he's doing. Who's your Picture of the month?
- 16:10Speaker 2: Aja Sanchez?
- 16:12Speaker 4: You didn't give up one run the whole month? How
- 16:14Speaker 4: can you even This shouldn't even be a debate. He
- 16:16Speaker 4: didn't give up one run the whole month. That should
- 16:19Speaker 4: be easy. He should be the Picture of the month.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Sorry.
- 16:22Speaker 5: The miss gave up twenty less hits than Christopher Sanchez
- 16:26Speaker 5: and he gave up one run.
- 16:29Speaker 3: One.
- 16:30Speaker 2: You know how rare it is to go a month
- 16:31Speaker 2: and not give up a run.
- 16:33Speaker 5: You never know rare it is to give up one
- 16:35Speaker 5: and give up twenty less hit, give up zero, twenty
- 16:38Speaker 5: less hits than the other guy.
- 16:39Speaker 3: Less walop.
- 16:40Speaker 4: Miss, he's gonna be our age, more strikeouts, He's gonna
- 16:43Speaker 4: be your ace, but zero runs wins for me.
- 16:47Speaker 5: Ah, sorry, I love, I love Christopher Sanchez. What he's
- 16:50Speaker 5: doing was absolutely dominant the miss. I heard you guys
- 16:54Speaker 5: discussing it yesterday. Sorry, I gotta go with the miss.
- 16:57Speaker 5: I gotta go my Milwaukee love, my Homer Philly or
- 17:00Speaker 5: my Homwerk Milwaukee love. Either way, Dude, dudes were dominant,
- 17:04Speaker 5: but the mis gave up twenty.
- 17:05Speaker 3: I think it was twenty three less hits. That's crazy.
- 17:10Speaker 1: The innings were within like an inning. I think it
- 17:11Speaker 1: was like thirty nine and thirty eight to thirty or
- 17:13Speaker 1: something like that, so you can't really make much of
- 17:15Speaker 1: a distinction there. I like the debate and hearing this
- 17:18Speaker 1: from you guys, AJ, can you agree to disagree that
- 17:22Speaker 1: if somebody is coming from the miz section, you can
- 17:26Speaker 1: see where they're coming from.
- 17:28Speaker 4: Listen, Polish people, we always we stick together so I
- 17:31Speaker 4: totally understand it. I totally get it. But it just
- 17:35Speaker 4: zero runs in a month. There's a lot of great
- 17:38Speaker 4: pitchers that had great months in the National League. Apparently
- 17:40Speaker 4: nobody can hit in the National League. They can just
- 17:42Speaker 4: really pitch. But to me, if you go a whole
- 17:45Speaker 4: month and give up zero, I don't care how many
- 17:47Speaker 4: hits you give up, that means you figured out a
- 17:48Speaker 4: way to get out of all those jams.
- 17:50Speaker 2: To me, it's just it's just I don't know.
- 17:54Speaker 4: It's it's hard for me to look at a guy
- 17:56Speaker 4: and say, hey, you've given up zero runs a month
- 18:00Speaker 4: and you don't win Pitcher of the Month because that
- 18:02Speaker 4: never happens.
- 18:03Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what he said.
- 18:04Speaker 1: That's what he said.
- 18:07Speaker 3: That's what he said.
- 18:08Speaker 1: That's what he said. All right, so let's get into this.
- 18:13Speaker 1: We've got the back and forth with the league slash
- 18:16Speaker 1: owners and the players. We have more quotes from the
- 18:20Speaker 1: players Association side. Tomorrow we will get quotes from Rob Manfred.
- 18:25Speaker 1: We either will get them for that show or the
- 18:28Speaker 1: Thursday show if it comes out after the fact. As
- 18:31Speaker 1: the owners are meeting up. We're very far away from
- 18:33Speaker 1: anything really happening. But as in my mind, a show
- 18:37Speaker 1: of record. They let you know everything going on in
- 18:39Speaker 1: the game that you'd see as the major headlines. This
- 18:42Speaker 1: is what we'll do. We'll give you the quotes on
- 18:43Speaker 1: this side and the MLB response to and let's talk
- 18:46Speaker 1: through it. So let's run through them and then I'll
- 18:48Speaker 1: read them, Gab. You can kind of roll straight through
- 18:50Speaker 1: so we can set the tone. It's kind of like
- 18:52Speaker 1: chronologically running through the week here, starting with last week,
- 18:56Speaker 1: where you know both sides sent in their initial proposals
- 18:58Speaker 1: that will look nothing like what we see at the end.
- 19:01Speaker 1: Bruce Meyer, who leads the PA, met with reporters yesterday
- 19:04Speaker 1: and he said on the league's first proposal last week,
- 19:06Speaker 1: quote very surprised. I mean I thought they would try
- 19:07Speaker 1: harder to make it look good and they didn't even
- 19:10Speaker 1: do that. And then here's Jesse Rodgers with another quote
- 19:14Speaker 1: from him, Bruce Meyer talking about the Padres as an
- 19:17Speaker 1: example for all teams, quote, we want to encourage more
- 19:19Speaker 1: San Diego. San Diego is a small market team that
- 19:22Speaker 1: went out, decided to compete, signed a lot of players,
- 19:24Speaker 1: turned around their franchise. They are successful, they've grown attendance,
- 19:28Speaker 1: they've grown interest, and we've all seen the explosion of
- 19:31Speaker 1: their franchise value. One more from Bruce and then we'll
- 19:34Speaker 1: get the reply from MLB on the fifty to fifty
- 19:37Speaker 1: ReBs split, he said, it's not even a real fifty percent.
- 19:40Speaker 1: It's taking billions of dollars off the top before they're
- 19:43Speaker 1: proposing to even share any of that in terms of
- 19:44Speaker 1: player share. What counts against players share and their proposal
- 19:48Speaker 1: is everything salaries, of course, all forms of benefit, other
- 19:51Speaker 1: things of value, things like moving costs and the cost
- 19:53Speaker 1: of translators. All of that gets counted against player share,
- 19:56Speaker 1: and most importantly, most significantly, amateur signing bonuses, which is
- 19:59Speaker 1: some thing you really don't have an analog to in
- 20:02Speaker 1: the other sports that have salary caps. MLB immediately coming
- 20:07Speaker 1: out with a response, and again Rob Manford will have more,
- 20:10Speaker 1: I'm sure in a day. So Bob Nightingale putting out
- 20:14Speaker 1: this quote from Glenn Kaplan, one of the pr dudes
- 20:18Speaker 1: on the MLB side, said, our salary cap and floor
- 20:21Speaker 1: proposal addresses our fans concerns by leveling the playing field
- 20:24Speaker 1: while sharing baseball revenue with the players fifty to fifty.
- 20:26Speaker 1: Like the other leagues, under our proposal, major League players
- 20:29Speaker 1: will receive more compan year one of the system than
- 20:31Speaker 1: in twenty twenty six. We are ready to listen if
- 20:32Speaker 1: the MLBPA wants to counter our proposal at the bargaining table. Yeah,
- 20:36Speaker 1: let's do Alex Wood too, and then we'll jump back
- 20:38Speaker 1: in here. Alex Wood, former Big leaguer, likes to tweet.
- 20:42Speaker 1: He said, all MLB has to do to quote level
- 20:45Speaker 1: the playing field is force all revenue sharing teams to
- 20:48Speaker 1: spend their revenue sharing on talent. That was the original
- 20:52Speaker 1: purpose of revenue sharing. Revenue sharing teams have taken advantage
- 20:55Speaker 1: of the system and MLB currently can't do anything about it.
- 21:02Speaker 3: Mike drop.
- 21:04Speaker 4: True, how much money did the Pittsburgh Pirates get in
- 21:07Speaker 4: revenue sharing last year?
- 21:09Speaker 3: I'll find out for you. I'll find out for you.
- 21:12Speaker 2: How much did they spend on players?
- 21:15Speaker 5: That's the question. How much money did the million dollars?
- 21:17Speaker 5: How much one total? One hundred and one? They crashed
- 21:21Speaker 5: over one hundred million dollars threshold at one hundred and one.
- 21:25Speaker 2: How many did the marrow? How much did the Marlins
- 21:26Speaker 2: get last year?
- 21:29Speaker 3: I can only type so fast.
- 21:32Speaker 1: Well, while he's doing that.
- 21:33Speaker 2: These are just sorry, these are just legitimate questions.
- 21:37Speaker 4: I have because then also the other side of it is,
- 21:40Speaker 4: you know, we had David Sampson on and he said,
- 21:44Speaker 4: you know, there's different ways of calcula Why is there
- 21:45Speaker 4: a different way to calculate how money?
- 21:47Speaker 2: It's money? Right?
- 21:48Speaker 4: Unless someone's trying to hide something from someone else, can't
- 21:51Speaker 4: you just say we made this much money and we
- 21:53Speaker 4: spent this much money, and then there's the pensions and
- 21:56Speaker 4: there's all these other things that did we have to
- 21:58Speaker 4: spend money on? I don't That's what I don't understand
- 22:01Speaker 4: is the fifty to fifty al Right, So then if
- 22:03Speaker 4: I'm the players go and say we want sixty percent
- 22:05Speaker 4: of the revenue, you know what the owners are going
- 22:06Speaker 4: to say, not fair, not fair, not fair. It's fifty
- 22:10Speaker 4: to fifty no matter what. And then they'll figure out
- 22:11Speaker 4: a way to hide money. And listen, I don't like
- 22:13Speaker 4: this from either side. I hate that they're fighting publicly,
- 22:16Speaker 4: but now it's become a pr battle and it sucks.
- 22:19Speaker 3: It sucks.
- 22:19Speaker 2: We're gonna have to talk about this for the next
- 22:21Speaker 2: however long.
- 22:22Speaker 5: Obviously, this is the part where players get hamstrung because
- 22:25Speaker 5: they do see the books. They see all the books,
- 22:27Speaker 5: but they're not allowed to discuss it.
- 22:29Speaker 3: It's part of the.
- 22:31Speaker 5: Collecutively bargained and antitrust stuff. But they do see the books.
- 22:37Speaker 5: So if the players see the books and react the
- 22:39Speaker 5: way that they do, this is why they're reacting the
- 22:42Speaker 5: way they do, and they're encouraging others to spend more.
- 22:44Speaker 5: The Pirates, according to AI, receive eighty five to one
- 22:48Speaker 5: hundred million dollars annually in revenue sharing and their payroll
- 22:53Speaker 5: is one hundred and one million dollars, So showing you
- 22:58Speaker 5: that essentially the payroll is taken care of by revenue sharing.
- 23:02Speaker 5: And I know Pittsburgh fans, they come out, I know
- 23:06Speaker 5: this team makes other money other than revenue sharing, but
- 23:09Speaker 5: that's what it says. And the biggest thing is that
- 23:13Speaker 5: I want to say before we get into any more
- 23:15Speaker 5: of these conversations us here on foul Territory, we are
- 23:19Speaker 5: ex players one hundred percent, but we are currently baseball fans.
- 23:24Speaker 5: Baseball fans want parody in the game. We want competition
- 23:29Speaker 5: in the game. That's what you want. If everybody gets
- 23:31Speaker 5: a trophy, then we're just gonna we're just gonna do
- 23:33Speaker 5: away with the World Series and everybody just has a
- 23:36Speaker 5: regular season and it's a cool, cool price. We want competition,
- 23:39Speaker 5: and players want competition. Owners do not want competition, And
- 23:44Speaker 5: fans that sit here and side with owners need to
- 23:49Speaker 5: make sure that they understand that owners want money. They
- 23:54Speaker 5: do not want parity. They want franchise values to increase.
- 23:58Speaker 5: And when the first response from mister Kaplan is we
- 24:03Speaker 5: hear what our fans want and that's what we're going after,
- 24:06Speaker 5: that is not true. That is not what their central
- 24:10Speaker 5: focus is. They are using you in that direction. And
- 24:14Speaker 5: I truly believe if you listen to what we have
- 24:17Speaker 5: to say and listen to what everyone else has to say,
- 24:19Speaker 5: that the players are more on the fans side than
- 24:22Speaker 5: the fans would think.
- 24:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:24Speaker 1: And also when the league says, hey, we're gonna do
- 24:26Speaker 1: fifty to fifty, I'm on the same page. Do the
- 24:28Speaker 1: fifty to fifty on the TV money.
- 24:30Speaker 2: Right?
- 24:30Speaker 1: In college football, you don't get to just play teams.
- 24:33Speaker 1: You have to pay those teams to play them, because
- 24:35Speaker 1: you know the one team's making all the money off
- 24:37Speaker 1: of it, right, I mean, you know that world better
- 24:39Speaker 1: than I do. AJ fall in college football you can't
- 24:41Speaker 1: just play and the other team doesn't get anything. You know,
- 24:44Speaker 1: often there's big money exchanges for teams to play against
- 24:47Speaker 1: other teams. Otherwise you wouldn't have competition. But that doesn't
- 24:50Speaker 1: so you can share money. That's always been a thing
- 24:52Speaker 1: that the increase of sharing money should be happening. But
- 24:57Speaker 1: the problem is you had distrust because they created that
- 24:59Speaker 1: without any lever to actually spend the money. The Padres example,
- 25:03Speaker 1: you can fight it all you want to say, Oh,
- 25:04Speaker 1: they were in some debt, they sold for ridiculous amount
- 25:07Speaker 1: of money. They invested in their team, they made some
- 25:10Speaker 1: mistakes on players they invested in, but they made some
- 25:13Speaker 1: huge hits and they're an absolute vibe. They dominate San
- 25:16Speaker 1: Diego because they invested in the team in every way right.
- 25:19Speaker 1: They invested in the way that they operate their ballpark,
- 25:22Speaker 1: their marketing, their player payroll, the whole deal. And they
- 25:25Speaker 1: are small baby. They make nothing on their local TV money,
- 25:27Speaker 1: just about nothing. So oh my gosh, the Padres would
- 25:30Speaker 1: have even more of an advantage if they get to
- 25:32Speaker 1: split local TV money with everyone else. So yeah, I mean,
- 25:35Speaker 1: you would definitely help out the Padres significantly, not that
- 25:37Speaker 1: they need help. They've been competitive, I know, they haven't
- 25:39Speaker 1: won a World to just.
- 25:41Speaker 2: The only thing that was able to be done. Was
- 25:43Speaker 2: a grievance.
- 25:44Speaker 4: Remember we talked about the grievance with Sacramento and we
- 25:47Speaker 4: talked about the I know they're fake, that's the thing.
- 25:50Speaker 4: There's nothing they could do. Pittsburgh allegedly had a grievance
- 25:54Speaker 4: right where. That's why they went out and spent money
- 25:56Speaker 4: this offseason because the players were saying, but if the
- 25:59Speaker 4: numbers Errickers is saying is true seventy five to one
- 26:02Speaker 4: hundred million and their payroll is one hundred and one million,
- 26:06Speaker 4: where's all the rest of the money go? The tickets?
- 26:09Speaker 4: Because they're they're they're doing all right tickets this year.
- 26:11Speaker 4: I know they don't make that much in let's say
- 26:13Speaker 4: they make thirty million. I'm throwing a random number out
- 26:16Speaker 4: there off their TV okay concessions, parking.
- 26:21Speaker 2: Tickets, what else for merchant.
- 26:24Speaker 1: National TV money split?
- 26:25Speaker 4: Where's all that money go? I mean, Fox pays a
- 26:28Speaker 4: lot of money to broadcast the World Series every year,
- 26:31Speaker 4: NBC paid money to get the NBC Sunday Night Game.
- 26:35Speaker 4: There's a lot of things. ESPN paid for MLB TV.
- 26:38Speaker 4: We knew that was in one hundred millions. So every
- 26:40Speaker 4: team gets, you know, let's say ten million dollars. Where
- 26:43Speaker 4: does all that money go to? That's that's that's the
- 26:45Speaker 4: thing I think that players get annoyed about and and
- 26:48Speaker 4: is it fair? I don't know, But where does that
- 26:50Speaker 4: money go to besides in someone's pocket.
- 26:53Speaker 1: Just google Mark Cuban about the Pirates and Bob Nutting
- 26:57Speaker 1: and you'll learn a lot from a former owner who
- 26:59Speaker 1: is I would say, pretty transparent. Just google what he
- 27:03Speaker 1: said about a year ago and you'll learn a lot
- 27:06Speaker 1: about what internal fights have been going on. Yeah, at
- 27:09Speaker 1: the end of the day, right, I want to competition too.
- 27:11Speaker 1: I think they need to share. They should have been
- 27:12Speaker 1: sharing for a while now. It's created a perfect storm
- 27:15Speaker 1: here so people can say whatever they want. We're gonna
- 27:17Speaker 1: keep coming.
- 27:18Speaker 2: Created the storm.
- 27:18Speaker 1: People want to ask about it.
- 27:20Speaker 2: Listen.
- 27:20Speaker 4: I know I'm on the players side, but it's a
- 27:22Speaker 4: creative storm the owners want. Because when you go on
- 27:25Speaker 4: your social media and you go on and you talk
- 27:27Speaker 4: to fans, most fans are on the owner side. They've
- 27:30Speaker 4: won the public the pr battle already. No matter what
- 27:34Speaker 4: the player's saying, the players don't say hardly anything, whether
- 27:36Speaker 4: it's the PA, a player, or anybody because everyone's so
- 27:39Speaker 4: scared to say anything but it just sucks. It's a
- 27:42Speaker 4: bad situation for both sides. In the fact, again, the
- 27:44Speaker 4: baseball is in the spot that it is, but as
- 27:47Speaker 4: popular as it is from high school to college to
- 27:50Speaker 4: the minor league to independent baseball to the major leagues,
- 27:54Speaker 4: and we're having to have this conversation for the next
- 27:56Speaker 4: however long. It's just a sad situation.
- 27:58Speaker 1: I'm sorry it is. It's sad that we have to
- 28:00Speaker 1: pay attention to this and it's going to be a problem,
- 28:02Speaker 1: a huge problem. So we're only that it's Oh, it's
- 28:07Speaker 1: both sides, for sure, both sides. They both create ridiculous
- 28:10Speaker 1: proposals to say, we're not even going to have a
- 28:13Speaker 1: real combo until February and you're gonna miss spring training.
- 28:16Speaker 1: It's just a real thing. Hey day. Remember when we
- 28:17Speaker 1: covered this last week and Tony Bitello was talking about
- 28:20Speaker 1: how they might make a change at third base coach.
- 28:22Speaker 1: They did. They brought in Gary Pettis, the VET formally think.
- 28:26Speaker 2: That's going to make a difference? Crossed answer me, do
- 28:28Speaker 2: you think that's gonna make a third base coach? I
- 28:30Speaker 2: love GP. No.
- 28:31Speaker 4: GP was one of my favorite coaches I ever played for.
- 28:33Speaker 4: I had him in Texas for a year. He was awesome.
- 28:36Speaker 4: But do I really think this is going to make
- 28:37Speaker 4: a difference in the Giant season? They finished because Borg
- 28:41Speaker 4: got a couple guys thrown out of the plate more
- 28:43Speaker 4: than any I mean, wave him home, Windel Wendell Kim
- 28:46Speaker 4: for the dang Red Sox forever in the Cubs, he
- 28:49Speaker 4: was a legend because he waived everybody.
- 28:50Speaker 2: Joey Korra, you know what, you can't hit, Guess what
- 28:53Speaker 2: you gotta do.
- 28:53Speaker 4: You gotta try to score more runs, so you send
- 28:56Speaker 4: more guys, you take more chances.
- 28:57Speaker 2: Let's talk about that.
- 28:59Speaker 3: How about that? How about we talk about that?
- 29:01Speaker 5: How about we talk about the fact that if you've
- 29:02Speaker 5: never been out of third base waving a dude at home,
- 29:05Speaker 5: you're thinking, as the guy's rounding the bag, you go,
- 29:09Speaker 5: who's up, six, seven, eight of our order? I know
- 29:13Speaker 5: what they're hitting. I think we're gonna go. I think
- 29:15Speaker 5: we're gonna send them. You never know, make him make
- 29:17Speaker 5: the play like you have to make those evaluations. So
- 29:22Speaker 5: bad for him, great for GP, though, I love GP
- 29:25Speaker 5: and the fact that they brought They brought Ron out
- 29:28Speaker 5: of somewhere in the Giants, you know, out of Oracle Park,
- 29:32Speaker 5: like I'm sure he just hangs out with the team
- 29:34Speaker 5: and they just put a uniform on him until GP
- 29:36Speaker 5: could get done.
- 29:37Speaker 3: Is golfing his golfing lesson that he was getting.
- 29:40Speaker 2: And by the way, Ron wtis Ron wotis Team Poland
- 29:44Speaker 2: coaching staff, Huge Pollock, No Ski Ron Motis, he'll be
- 29:49Speaker 2: on the coaching staff. Don't you worry.
- 29:51Speaker 5: He is just stuck in Oracle Park. He's just kayaking
- 29:54Speaker 5: all around the Oracle Park. Yes, he will not leave,
- 29:58Speaker 5: he will not leave. Him and boat just together.
- 30:04Speaker 4: I had whattas as the coach when I was there before,
- 30:06Speaker 4: way before, way before boach. But what has been there
- 30:11Speaker 4: for the Highland. He's the one who came up with
- 30:13Speaker 4: my nickname. Him and Mark Gardner. They used to call
- 30:15Speaker 4: me the Cooler. I told you all that because we
- 30:17Speaker 4: were in Puerto Rico at the casino and Mark Gardner
- 30:19Speaker 4: was winning and I just walked over and go, what's up, Guardian?
- 30:22Speaker 4: He lost all his money and I was like, I
- 30:24Speaker 4: shouldn't have said some of the things about me, should
- 30:26Speaker 4: you guardy? Now they called me the cooler the rest
- 30:28Speaker 4: of the year. Roots is best.
- 30:30Speaker 5: Ron Wadas is the Highlander. You look at him year
- 30:34Speaker 5: after year. He never ages, never ages.
- 30:38Speaker 4: By the way, do you guys like water in a box?
- 30:43Speaker 4: Can you have to get the worst taste ever? Scott?
- 30:48Speaker 3: Plastic?
- 30:49Speaker 1: You only like it in plastic?
- 30:51Speaker 2: This is paper.
- 30:52Speaker 1: No, I know that, but I'm saying I said, can
- 30:54Speaker 1: you don't like water in a can?
- 30:56Speaker 2: Tastes like metal?
- 30:57Speaker 5: Sometimes they need to have a better They didn't have
- 30:59Speaker 5: a better spout on the paper, Martin, I don't like
- 31:02Speaker 5: to spout.
- 31:06Speaker 1: Hey, subscribe to ap T. We'd appreciate that. It's baseball
- 31:09Speaker 1: the way it should be covered. We're bringing it. If
- 31:11Speaker 1: you have questions, comments, concerns too. I try and read
- 31:13Speaker 1: as much as I can. Instagram is the easiest spot
- 31:15Speaker 1: to see all the messages. Try to get through YouTube comments.
- 31:18Speaker 1: There's a lot that's cool. We like that. But subscribe. Also,
- 31:21Speaker 1: if you are listening to us, or if you're watching
- 31:23Speaker 1: right now, head over to Apple or Spotify and follow
- 31:26Speaker 1: the podcast too from when you're on the go. That
- 31:28Speaker 1: would be awesome. If you want to rate and review,
- 31:29Speaker 1: we barely ask for it, so it would be great
- 31:32Speaker 1: if you can do that. Hey, do you think this
- 31:34Speaker 1: is a dangerous precedent set by raised players to sign
- 31:39Speaker 1: a baseball when a fan throws it back from the seats.
- 31:43Speaker 1: I know this is a thing, you know for fans
- 31:46Speaker 1: in some ballparks, but AJ your thoughts here, you know what,
- 31:51Speaker 1: that's a last right.
- 31:53Speaker 2: I don't love incentivizing this.
- 31:54Speaker 4: I don't love incentivea But we saw Hacy Sanchez get
- 31:56Speaker 4: hurt the other day, which was a listener standing. I
- 32:00Speaker 4: remember I did a game a few years ago at
- 32:02Speaker 4: Fenway where John Carlos Stanton hit a homer and the
- 32:04Speaker 4: fan chucked and hit him when he was round in
- 32:06Speaker 4: second base.
- 32:07Speaker 2: This isn't a press I mean, listen and Wrigley. I
- 32:10Speaker 2: get it.
- 32:10Speaker 4: Most fans can't throw it far enough to hurt anybody,
- 32:13Speaker 4: especially from the outfield.
- 32:14Speaker 2: But I don't why are.
- 32:15Speaker 4: We rewarding one of the biggest things we always say
- 32:18Speaker 4: is don't throw stuff on the field, don't come on
- 32:20Speaker 4: the field. So now the rais are saying, here's a
- 32:22Speaker 4: base signed baseball. You threw a ball in the field.
- 32:25Speaker 4: Like cool, dude, Like, I don't know, I don't think.
- 32:28Speaker 4: I don't think this is a great precedent. But hey,
- 32:30Speaker 4: it's the rays they do. They do it the rainway
- 32:31Speaker 4: down there.
- 32:33Speaker 5: I like, I like incentivizing fans to have a connection
- 32:37Speaker 5: with the players, throwing objects back at him if somebody's
- 32:40Speaker 5: not looking at it hits something like, that's so ridiculous
- 32:43Speaker 5: that somebody got hurt.
- 32:43Speaker 3: The Phillies.
- 32:45Speaker 5: You catch a home run ball, they come to you,
- 32:47Speaker 5: They get the home run ball, and you can keep
- 32:50Speaker 5: it as a player in exchange for something else, or
- 32:54Speaker 5: no of my guys are like whatever, Like I don't
- 32:56Speaker 5: want the home run, my seventh home run of my career. Like,
- 32:58Speaker 5: you sign it, you give it back to fan, and
- 33:01Speaker 5: or they mail it back to the fan.
- 33:02Speaker 3: I think that's a cool thing to do. We don't
- 33:04Speaker 3: need to throw it onto the field.
- 33:05Speaker 5: We don't need we don't need to reward objects being
- 33:08Speaker 5: tossed at players.
- 33:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 33:11Speaker 1: But but when it's the opposing team hitting a homer,
- 33:13Speaker 1: that's where fans feel like they need to show their
- 33:16Speaker 1: might and throw the pitch back. Yeah. I think that
- 33:19Speaker 1: act is soft and tired. There's certain there's certain acts
- 33:22Speaker 1: in baseball, and I think we're gonna get into another
- 33:24Speaker 1: one later on that. I'm just like, Okay, we've seen
- 33:26Speaker 1: it for a long time. What else you got?
- 33:28Speaker 5: I'm keeping it. I catch a home run ball, I'm
- 33:30Speaker 5: keeping it, I'm putting it.
- 33:31Speaker 1: I'm giving it to a kid.
- 33:33Speaker 3: Yes, oh yeah, give it to a kid.
- 33:36Speaker 1: You caught a home run ball, you don't want it,
- 33:37Speaker 1: give it to a kid. Okay, unless it's like you know,
- 33:40Speaker 1: what about.
- 33:41Speaker 2: I got kids, when I got kids, Scott, what if
- 33:43Speaker 2: I got kids?
- 33:44Speaker 1: Yeah, give it to your kid. That's fine, a kid.
- 33:47Speaker 1: It could be your kid.
- 33:47Speaker 2: But if my kid's not at the game, I got
- 33:49Speaker 2: kids at home.
- 33:50Speaker 1: That you can bring it home to them. That's a kid.
- 33:52Speaker 1: It's still a kid.
- 33:54Speaker 3: It's my birthday. Give me a ball.
- 34:06Speaker 1: Hey, Better than mox Scores is sponsored by Simon's Hart
- 34:08Speaker 1: and Babe Ruth League, Inc. Who are participating and partnering
- 34:11Speaker 1: this spring to protect the hearts and lives of young
- 34:13Speaker 1: baseball and softball players everywhere. Important cause we're talking about
- 34:18Speaker 1: important causes today. So there's more info just aball dot org.
- 34:21Speaker 1: Bottom of the screen. Let's talk games. Let's start with
- 34:25Speaker 1: the Brewers destroying the Giants. Who the Brewers. They can
- 34:32Speaker 1: put together some rallies. They really can get after you
- 34:37Speaker 1: and you look up and it gets out of hands
- 34:41Speaker 1: very quickly. It was too nothing, wasn't it too nothing? Right?
- 34:44Speaker 1: It was too nothing. San Francisco scored first in this one. Yeah.
- 34:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 34:51Speaker 4: What they do is they just hit, hit, hit, hit, walk,
- 34:54Speaker 4: hit by pitch, walk, stolen base, extra base, first, the
- 34:56Speaker 4: third hit hit, hit, hit, next thing you know, you're
- 34:58Speaker 4: down seven to two and you're going just happened. This
- 35:00Speaker 4: happened in about three minutes. So yes, the Brewers are
- 35:03Speaker 4: really good about this. They can put some they can
- 35:05Speaker 4: put some pressure on the other teams, and if you're
- 35:07Speaker 4: not prepared for it, man, they can make you cunt.
- 35:09Speaker 2: Your head spin really fast.
- 35:11Speaker 5: People say all the time that home runs are rally killers,
- 35:16Speaker 5: and the Brewers scored sixteen runs yesterday, zero homers. They
- 35:21Speaker 5: did not want to kill the rally. And it's exactly
- 35:23Speaker 5: what AJ just said. Triple clears, the bases, double now,
- 35:28Speaker 5: second and third, not afraid to get a sack, fly in,
- 35:32Speaker 5: score another run. Like it's just how they do it.
- 35:35Speaker 5: And it's it's suffocating to teams who can't figure out
- 35:39Speaker 5: how to well, we can't strike these guys out.
- 35:41Speaker 3: What do we do? Oh crap, I have nothing to
- 35:44Speaker 3: go to.
- 35:46Speaker 4: But by the way, when people say when people say
- 35:49Speaker 4: Scott homers or rally killers, I agree with that to
- 35:52Speaker 4: a certain extent, because if you're down five runs and
- 35:55Speaker 4: you got first and second and the pressure's mounting on
- 35:58Speaker 4: the pitcher and you're late in a game.
- 35:59Speaker 2: No I'm talking in eighth, ninth inning, when you.
- 36:02Speaker 4: Don't have a lot of opportunities, and a guy hits
- 36:03Speaker 4: a three run home and you're like, yeah, we're still
- 36:05Speaker 4: down two. Oh crap, we're still down too. It's it
- 36:10Speaker 4: is yes, everyone gets all hyped and excited.
- 36:13Speaker 2: Oh we hit a home run. We're but you still
- 36:15Speaker 2: are down too.
- 36:15Speaker 4: Whereas if let's say that guy hits a double and
- 36:18Speaker 4: then you just more and the pressure just keeps mounting
- 36:20Speaker 4: and mounting. There are times when home runs can be
- 36:23Speaker 4: rally killers. And it also gives the picture a chance.
- 36:26Speaker 4: Oh the guy's trot around the base is who We're
- 36:29Speaker 4: still winning. I used to tell guys that are like there.
- 36:31Speaker 4: We'd be we'd have innings and we'd be up five
- 36:33Speaker 4: or six and we give up two or three, and
- 36:35Speaker 4: the picture would come in and be all like for me, like, hey,
- 36:38Speaker 4: by the way, we're still winning, So everybody cheer up.
- 36:42Speaker 5: It's okay to give up runs. Just don't give up
- 36:44Speaker 5: the winning run. That's the biggest thing. That's it.
- 36:49Speaker 1: Every time we talk about a team like Milwaukee, or
- 36:52Speaker 1: we're gonna talk about the Rays in the moment, I'm
- 36:53Speaker 1: now just gonna have it burned in my head. Go
- 36:56Speaker 1: get school boy, give the number one dog if he
- 36:59Speaker 1: comes back healthy. You just dream about one of those scenarios.
- 37:03Speaker 1: Go for it. Okay, next up, because AJ loves this
- 37:08Speaker 1: and oh perfect, our next guest not yet, but Aaron
- 37:11Speaker 1: Ashby on the show. We'll talk about this topic. We
- 37:14Speaker 1: barely ever cover it. AJ. Jacob de Gram's one hundredth
- 37:18Speaker 1: win yesterday for the Rangers in a two to one victory.
- 37:23Speaker 2: Men's don't matter who cares.
- 37:24Speaker 1: It's cool number then all right, anyway, moving on cool number.
- 37:28Speaker 2: Listen, it's cool.
- 37:29Speaker 4: But one of the big debates is Jacob de Grom,
- 37:32Speaker 4: a Hall of Famer. He's got a hundred wins, one
- 37:35Speaker 4: hundred not even like okay, we get to two hundred.
- 37:38Speaker 4: I'm sorry, but one hundred wins. It's cool for him,
- 37:41Speaker 4: But there's a long list of guys that has one
- 37:43Speaker 4: hundred wins. Not as dominant as Jacob deGrom, but there's
- 37:46Speaker 4: a long list of guys that got one hundred wins.
- 37:49Speaker 1: Did you watch what was it the one year where
- 37:51Speaker 1: he freaking I don't even know if he got double
- 37:53Speaker 1: digit wins and he had like a two ERA and
- 37:54Speaker 1: the Mets never scored for him. I mean that stuff
- 37:58Speaker 1: does happen, or they would score and then bullpen would
- 38:00Speaker 1: blow it in the ninth Anyway, Michael McGreevy, who was
- 38:03Speaker 1: matching up against him, took a screenshot of the pitching
- 38:06Speaker 1: matchup in the morning. He said, I try not to
- 38:09Speaker 1: worry about what the other picture does, but I mean,
- 38:10Speaker 1: it's hard not to think, like, dang, that's the Grom.
- 38:14Speaker 1: I appreciate that candor krats him, pointing out how big
- 38:17Speaker 1: of a deal it was to face the Gram. And
- 38:18Speaker 1: it's not like he got shell. He pitched well. His
- 38:20Speaker 1: team just couldn't crack the Grom and the bullpen.
- 38:23Speaker 5: Look, I mean, look at mcgreevy's age. The Grom's thirty six.
- 38:27Speaker 5: Mcgreevy's watched this guy maybe two grounds, thirty seven, thirty
- 38:30Speaker 5: eight Ibby Mabe.
- 38:32Speaker 3: He looks so young. He looks so young, but like
- 38:36Speaker 3: he watched this guy.
- 38:37Speaker 5: Yes he's still and he's still, as Todd says, a beast,
- 38:42Speaker 5: but there is like the Hall of Fame discussion I
- 38:48Speaker 5: get it, it's gotta be there, but it would be
- 38:50Speaker 5: in my opinion, it would be Hall of Fame changing
- 38:54Speaker 5: in the sense of like what Hall of Famers have
- 38:57Speaker 5: been in the past compared to what they are now.
- 39:02Speaker 1: M All right, well, we're about to talk a lot
- 39:05Speaker 1: more about wins. Our next guest is ready so better
- 39:09Speaker 1: than box scores. Was presented by an important cause. Here
- 39:15Speaker 1: it's Simon's Heart and Babe Ruth League, Inc. And as
- 39:18Speaker 1: you can see here, if you're a Babe Ruth League player, coach,
- 39:21Speaker 1: or parent, you can win exclusive signed merchandise from foul
- 39:24Speaker 1: Territory and other prizes from Simon's Heart. Yes, you can
- 39:27Speaker 1: see CPR training there. Just visit just aball dot org
- 39:31Speaker 1: to learn how to enter for a chance to win.
- 39:35Speaker 1: There it is QR code on the screen. You can
- 39:37Speaker 1: see many videos like this online too. It's great education
- 39:42Speaker 1: for everyone out there, young or old, and an important
- 39:46Speaker 1: cause thanks to Simon's Heart. All right, we'll show this tweet.
- 39:51Speaker 1: You know, there's trends we're trying to follow and ride
- 39:53Speaker 1: the wave on the internet. Name an athlete you wish
- 39:58Speaker 1: had a fully healthy career and this account Hawkham said,
- 40:04Speaker 1: you can't say Derek Rose. We're talking baseball, So who
- 40:07Speaker 1: has one?
- 40:08Speaker 2: Brian Taylor? Brian Taylor. You guys know who Brian Taylor is.
- 40:15Speaker 4: Nope, first overall pick Yankees hurt his shoulder in a
- 40:20Speaker 4: weird accident, weird thing whatever, you have to google it.
- 40:22Speaker 4: But he was supposed to be the left handed just
- 40:25Speaker 4: a god through one hundred is a lefty.
- 40:29Speaker 2: Didn't work out, got hurt, never really made it.
- 40:31Speaker 3: Brian with an E. If people are looking it up.
- 40:34Speaker 1: I just found that first overall, nineteen ninety one.
- 40:37Speaker 5: M Jean Carr, I'll go. I'll go a little bit higher,
- 40:41Speaker 5: Gean Carlos Stanton. If he doesn't get hurt, what kind
- 40:44Speaker 5: of home run numbers? Out of a prolific home run
- 40:47Speaker 5: hit already he's gonna get five hundred in his career?
- 40:51Speaker 5: How many does he have? And then I go like
- 40:52Speaker 5: the quintessential, like Ken Griffey Junior. If he doesn't get hurt,
- 40:57Speaker 5: does he have the all time home run record?
- 41:03Speaker 1: What about Mike Trout the last five years his career's
- 41:06Speaker 1: not done yet.
- 41:07Speaker 5: That's like saying Chris Sale. Like Chris Sale and Mike
- 41:10Speaker 5: Trout kind of went through like injury time in the
- 41:12Speaker 5: middle are they still like Chris Sales now put himself
- 41:16Speaker 5: in the Hall of Fame had he not come back
- 41:18Speaker 5: from those injuries.
- 41:20Speaker 3: Different.
- 41:21Speaker 1: Yeah, Trapp's already Hall of Famer. The question is just
- 41:24Speaker 1: to picture if there's a fully healthy career. So my
- 41:26Speaker 1: point was, if you had the last five years healthy
- 41:29Speaker 1: for Trout, you know, he's he like a top ten
- 41:33Speaker 1: player ever, top ten career ever.
- 41:38Speaker 5: He could be in top five if you're talking about
- 41:41Speaker 5: like one hundred plus war if you're talking about five
- 41:44Speaker 5: hundred homers, however, many bags, three hundred plus steals. Yeah, obviously,
- 41:49Speaker 5: but I still think he's got time. So that's why
- 41:51Speaker 5: I didn't put him in there.
- 41:52Speaker 1: No, that's fine, Yeah, I mean you picked the current players.
- 41:55Speaker 4: Johan Santana, remember he was really good then he got hurt.
- 41:59Speaker 4: I mean with two cy youngs. He was rolling through that,
- 42:02Speaker 4: come through that no hitter for the Mets, and through
- 42:05Speaker 4: like one hundred and forty pitches.
- 42:06Speaker 2: It was never the same after that. I don't know.
- 42:10Speaker 4: Listen, there's a ton of guys you could say if
- 42:11Speaker 4: they didn't get hurt, if they didn't this didn't happen,
- 42:13Speaker 4: and that, I mean, it's it's such a you know,
- 42:17Speaker 4: but it happens.
- 42:17Speaker 2: Stuff happens. That's why. That's why I think.
- 42:20Speaker 4: Eric and I try to explain how hard it is
- 42:22Speaker 4: to be a long term Major League baseball player because
- 42:25Speaker 4: people get hurt all the time.
- 42:30Speaker 1: Everyone's met someone on a plane is like I was
- 42:32Speaker 1: supposed to be a first round pick for my rotator cut.
- 42:38Speaker 3: Sure it would.
- 42:40Speaker 1: And whether you predicted a home run or a game
- 42:43Speaker 1: saving strikeout, go check out the parlay boost token that
- 42:48Speaker 1: you can add to the mix, build your parlay and
- 42:50Speaker 1: go for another memorable moment inside the bet. Mgm app Yeah,
- 42:54Speaker 1: Cratch just activated his boost. Good luck on your locks tonight.
- 42:58Speaker 1: We've been hitting pretty good really this year, but especially
- 43:01Speaker 1: in the past month. Gambling problem or concern, there's help.
- 43:04Speaker 1: Call one eight hundred gambler.
