- 1:38SPEAKER_02: How are you?
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: Good, good.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: I'm doing great.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: I this is my first uh foray into the weekend.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: Like this is where it all begins.
- 1:47SPEAKER_02: This Friday night.
- 1:48SPEAKER_02: Well, it's Friday afternoon.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: Friday?
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: Well, it's Friday afternoon after a very hectic week, and this is the bank holiday.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: So today's the bank holiday.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: I forgot about the bank.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: It's um Monday is a public holiday for those of you who don't know what a bank holiday is.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: But every single day this week I've got something packed.
- 2:06SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, this weekend will either be the best of my life or kill me.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: The stakes are high.
- 2:13SPEAKER_02: I completely forgot it was a bank holiday.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: I've been looking forward to this weekend for so long.
- 2:20SPEAKER_02: So what what have you got planned if you can if you're able to tell?
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: So, okay, so tonight I'm going to a hip hop dance party.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: My sister's visiting this weekend, so we were supposed to go to this together.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: So she can't make it anymore.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: So I'm just going with some friends.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: But yeah, so tonight is that.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: Tomorrow is my bestie's birthday party, and she's already told me I'm not allowed to leave till like noon the next day.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: So we're gonna go hard all night.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: And then a Sunday is going my uh roommate, it is a blues performer and he performs at the blues kitchen every Sunday.
- 2:56SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's what I saw on your Instagram.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: He's really good too.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: Like, I like if I wasn't trying to make myself famous, I would put all my energy into making him famous.
- 3:06SPEAKER_02: But it looked really good.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: It was on my Insta story.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: So that's on Sunday night, and we always really go hard at Blues Kitchen because I have 50% off there.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:17SPEAKER_02: Do you get a discount because of your roommate, or just or you have like some membership?
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: Actually, I got a discount because I went on a date there, and me and this really gorgeous girl, and we were just like making out the entire time.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: And the bartender just loved us and was like, you guys should come back here and give me 50% off on um Sunday, Monday, and Tuesdays.
- 3:40SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so I have this little keychain that's like a VIP keychain.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: And literally, sometimes objectification works so well.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: So, anyways, yeah, so that's on Sunday.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: I'm ruining my little keychain.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: And then um Monday is the big finale.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: There's a music festival that me and my sister are going to.
- 4:03SPEAKER_02: Is it all points east?
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: No, it's Alt London.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: It's the first one of its kind.
- 4:09SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:11SPEAKER_02: I th I've heard about it, but I don't know who's performing.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: Um, Playboy Cardi is the one that we really want to see.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: And there is um a bunch of other rappers that we're both into.
- 4:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:23SPEAKER_02: Oh, nice.
- 4:23SPEAKER_02: So yeah.
- 4:24SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be a fun weekend.
- 4:26SPEAKER_02: A fun, busy impact weekend.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: Like I said, I will either end up dead or rested, or just so sleep deprived.
- 4:38SPEAKER_02: Literally, my plan tomorrow is work.
- 4:41SPEAKER_02: And then that sucks.
- 4:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: Way to bum everyone out, yeah.
- 4:44SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry.
- 4:47SPEAKER_02: But I'm working, I work at a comedy club now, so it's it's alright.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: Oh, that is badass.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: Which one?
- 4:52SPEAKER_02: Uh two north down and 21 Soho.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: Two north.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: That's near me.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: That's King's Cross, right?
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, I wanna come!
- 5:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, come.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: Okay, not this weekend, but I'll come next time.
- 5:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: Okay, that's awesome.
- 5:06SPEAKER_02: But yeah, it's it's a fun job.
- 5:08SPEAKER_02: I only started a few weeks ago as well.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 5:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: But it's yeah, comedy club jobs are great because you just get to watch everything for free and meet all the comedians and all that.
- 5:17SPEAKER_02: Literally, I've met so many already.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 5:19SPEAKER_02: And it's all I've been doing is watching comedy, it's like the easiest job.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: That and escorting drunk people out.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: That's probably like the worst part.
- 5:28SPEAKER_02: I don't even have to do that because it's like not that bad.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: Oh, well, good old British repression, then just keep it all in until you go home and then take it out on your family members.
- 5:40SPEAKER_02: I'm mainly working as like the the tech, so it's like quite easy.
- 5:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's just doing likes and audio.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: That's great.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: Well, that's a great job.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: I'm judging you less now.
- 5:51SPEAKER_02: But yeah, um, you've so in the meantime, you've come on today to talk about the movie White Chicks.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 5:59SPEAKER_02: Which I'm so excited to talk about.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: I'm just so excited to talk about too.
- 6:03SPEAKER_02: And I cannot believe it took this so this is gonna be the first episode of season three of the podcast.
- 6:08SPEAKER_02: I cannot believe it's taken 55 episodes or something like that to get to this movie.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: That was I was so scared that someone had done it already.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: Honestly, the first time you asked me to do this podcast, that was the first thing I thought of.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: I'm like, I'm gonna do white chicks, but then I was a little hesitant because it has been people have been saying lately that it's problematic.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: Like a lot of articles have been resurfaced.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: So I was just like, okay, maybe I won't do that.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: And I just couldn't think of anything else.
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: That's why I left you on Red for so long.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: And then I was watching.
- 6:42SPEAKER_02: I thought you just got busy.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: I was because I really wanted to do this podcast, but I couldn't think of anything else.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: And then I rewatched this movie last weekend, and I was like, this is a legendary movie.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: I just gotta do it.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: It's crap.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: It's so funny, and I've seen it so many times in my life.
- 7:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so have I.
- 7:01SPEAKER_02: This is my I think this is one of the movies on the out of the whole thing that I've seen maybe the most, I would say.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: I know it so well.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: And I like I was watching the movie and I was remembering every single line that people were saying.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's so strange.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: I was like, damn, yeah.
- 7:18SPEAKER_02: But like the weird thing is, so it has 15% on Rotten Tomatoes.
- 7:24SPEAKER_02: 15%.
- 7:28SPEAKER_02: It's so funny.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: I don't know how 15% is abysmal.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: You know, I think the emoji movie maybe has slightly higher than that.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 7:36SPEAKER_02: Oh no, the emoji movie has like one or two percent.
- 7:39SPEAKER_02: It's really low.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: Well then at this rate, that will probably be my new favorite movie.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: Because 15% for white chicks, that's I don't get it's so funny.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: I don't even know how it could have gotten 15%.
- 7:51SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 7:51SPEAKER_02: Well, I I know how, but like I I don't agree with it.
- 7:56SPEAKER_02: But then at the same time, like the audience score is 55.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: That's still not high enough.
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: It's still not good.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: It should be over 90.
- 8:05SPEAKER_02: And I reckon I reckon it's white people that are offended.
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: But critics?
- 8:12SPEAKER_02: No, no, for the uh audience score I'm talking about.
- 8:15SPEAKER_02: I reckon that's why that's 55.
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: Okay, yeah, yeah.
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: So another reason when I was reading the articles about it is that people were like, oh, these guys are doing white face.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: That's you know, that shouldn't be a thing.
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, okay.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: First of all, it you just don't even get the implications of blackface if you think that whiteface is so bad.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's not one of those things that you can turn or flip it and reverse it, you know?
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: It just doesn't apply in this context.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: But then um, there were also articles that were saying that the movie is transphobic.
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, where did you get that from?
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: At no point are they saying that yeah, we're women, at no point are is the main character like supposed to be a woman, you know?
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: They're like, they've clearly, you know, they're taking off their it's very clearly made to be a costume.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: So how is this talking about trans?
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: Like trans people aren't wearing a costume, you know?
- 9:07SPEAKER_02: It's not making fun of trans people.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: It's not, I know, that's why I'm like, I don't understand the backlash that this movie gets, and it makes me so mad because it's so funny.
- 9:18SPEAKER_02: I fully missed that backlash recently, like that you were saying.
- 9:21SPEAKER_02: I so what you were reading them, is that all like recent articles then?
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: It's I wouldn't say it's super recent, but in the past few years, you know, people dig up movies from the early 2000s and they're like, okay, what this what can we find in this movie?
- 9:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: And the thing is, it does stand the test of time.
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: Because another another really great thing about this movie is it's so nice and respectful to female friendships.
- 9:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it is.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: It was criticized for being like, oh, you guys are stereotyping women, and it's like no, they're not, they're actually showing, like, you know, at the beginning where um Marlon Wayne's character is like not listening to his wife, but after hanging out with these women, he's like, now I realize how much you have done for me and how much I wasn't noticing.
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and that is like that really stuck with me.
- 10:14SPEAKER_00: Like, because I watched this movie as a kid, and I was like, wow, like this is what female friendships are.
- 10:19SPEAKER_00: You know, they support each other, they listen to each other.
- 10:23SPEAKER_02: So that's actually interesting.
- 10:24SPEAKER_02: Like, so when you were saying you watched this as a kid, so did you see it when it first came out then?
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: I think I did not see.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: I remember distinctly that I had it on DVD.
- 10:34SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: My parents, I used to live in Singapore at this time, and we used to go to Malaysia to buy like pirated DVDs.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: And yeah, this is whatever.
- 10:46SPEAKER_02: You used to go to Malaysia to buy pirated DVDs.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: So um, Singapore and Malaysia are like right next to each other, right?
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: It was a 20-minute drive.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: Oh so um Singapore had very strict privacy laws, and this was like way before streaming, way before one, two, three movies.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: Like there was no way to get movies unless you went to the theater and waited months and months and months for the DVD.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: So if you can't get to the movie immediately, you know, it's just not available for a very long time.
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: So we would have these little road trips to Malaysia and go to these malls that would pretend like they would sell DVDs that have been out like legally, they would sell legal DVDs, and in the back, in the back room that was covered with movie posters, they had a hidden door, and then that's where all the pirated DVDs were.
- 11:34SPEAKER_02: So funny.
- 11:35SPEAKER_02: I remember going to Thailand when I was like 14 or something, and they've just they just like had them everywhere in like the actual mall.
- 11:44SPEAKER_02: It's like, how are you getting away with this?
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: I don't know, but sometimes we would go there and every single store would be shut, and we're like, why is this all shut?
- 11:52SPEAKER_00: And they're like, oh, the police are doing inspection of the mall today.
- 11:58SPEAKER_00: So we went to at one point we went to Malaysia and got white chicks because this the shop owner was recommending it's like it's a new movie, it's super funny, buy it.
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: They were trying to upsell us.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: So we were like, Yeah, we got it.
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: Went home, watched it.
- 12:11SPEAKER_00: I was there too, because I think my parents thought that it would be appropriate for children.
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: How old was I?
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: I think I was 11 at the time.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: We watched it, and so many moments, like I was laughing my ass off, and my mom like kept trying to cover my face, and I was like, no, no, and just like pushing her hand.
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: And I just I got obsessed with it, and then we had that DVD, so I would watch it like at every sleepover.
- 12:35SPEAKER_00: I would watch it when my parents were gone summer vacation and I was at home alone.
- 12:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: Um, so many times, so many times.
- 12:43SPEAKER_02: It's great.
- 12:44SPEAKER_02: Like, I I remember it coming out.
- 12:47SPEAKER_02: I so I remember being in America uh on a trip, and uh we went to see some movie at the cinema.
- 12:56SPEAKER_02: I can't remember what we saw, but like when we were watching that, the trailer for White Chicks came on and they were showing it, and I was like, that's what I want to see.
- 13:04SPEAKER_02: That looks so good.
- 13:07SPEAKER_02: So I just remember watching that and being like, I have to see this when it comes out.
- 13:11SPEAKER_02: And then it and then it came out in America, and then like six months it took to like come out here afterwards.
- 13:16SPEAKER_02: And I was like, I want to see this movie.
- 13:18SPEAKER_02: It took so long to come out here afterwards, that's cruel.
- 13:22SPEAKER_00: The film distribution system is cruel.
- 13:24SPEAKER_02: Oh, it used to be so bad.
- 13:25SPEAKER_02: I remember, yeah, like back in those days it was really bad.
- 13:28SPEAKER_02: Now they're like kind of like closer together in time, but like they used to be a good six months to a year between that we were getting.
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: This is why we went to Malaysia, because I was in Singapore, right?
- 13:39SPEAKER_00: We have the same issue.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: There were movies being released in the US, and we would have to wait even longer than you guys.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: We were in Asia.
- 13:46SPEAKER_02: But I mean, yeah, I did the same thing of like getting them like pirated and everything because of that.
- 13:50SPEAKER_02: I was like, I'm not waiting by the time they before they would come out on DVD there or VHS or whatever, before they would come out in the cinema here.
- 13:58SPEAKER_02: So I'd be like, obviously, I'm just gonna buy it and watch it.
- 14:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, some dude is selling it to me for half the price of the movie ticket.
- 14:07SPEAKER_00: How can I say no?
- 14:08SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 14:09SPEAKER_02: Oh, it's crazy.
- 14:10SPEAKER_02: Like, and but this, yeah, I was also I was a huge Wayans Brothers fan at the time.
- 14:16SPEAKER_00: They're so good.
- 14:17SPEAKER_02: Because I was obsessed with scary movie, one and oh my god, same.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: This is like when I this is the stuff I come back to, the Wayans Brothers, because they were my first real introduction to comedy.
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: With white chicks and the scary movies.
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: I love the scary movies too.
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: And their brand of humor is just so dumb.
- 14:37SPEAKER_02: It is, but it's great.
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: It's so good, but that's why it's so good, right?
- 14:41SPEAKER_02: Like, did you watch their TV show at all?
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: Um, no, I didn't, but it was the movies, it was the movies that got me into them.
- 14:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because their TV show is also really, really good, and it still holds up.
- 14:54SPEAKER_00: I'm sure, I'm sure it is.
- 14:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I want to check it out because I've seen all of their movies.
- 14:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think you would really enjoy it.
- 15:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and they're just the chemistry of both of them working together is so good.
- 15:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, actually, I was watching White Chicks and I was like, it's been so long since I've seen someone just make faces and make me laugh.
- 15:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 15:13SPEAKER_00: You know, because Sean, not Sean, Marlon.
- 15:15SPEAKER_02: Marlon.
- 15:16SPEAKER_02: Marlon's so good.
- 15:17SPEAKER_00: Marlon is the funny one, he's like the comic relief, and Sean is like the straight character, right?
- 15:22SPEAKER_00: He's also hilarious in his own ways.
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: But Marlon will like every single face he did in the movie was so funny.
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: Like just that whole 15 seconds where Sean is grabbing his balls to make him shut up, and he's like contorting his face, like every single he hits every single part of his face.
- 15:43SPEAKER_00: You know, the expressions are just everywhere.
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: It's so funny, too.
- 15:47SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, it's hard.
- 15:48SPEAKER_02: It's not easy to do.
- 15:49SPEAKER_00: He's not saying a single word, yeah.
- 15:51SPEAKER_02: It's not such a hard thing to do.
- 15:55SPEAKER_02: And that's I think that's what like gets underappreciated with them as well.
- 15:58SPEAKER_02: Like, because I don't know, I think dumb humor gets underappreciated on like how, even though it's dumb humor, it's not easy to do it, and I think that gets like overlooked for a lot of people.
- 16:10SPEAKER_00: Like, what what do what do people laugh at?
- 16:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, obviously, people laugh at this.
- 16:18SPEAKER_02: Everyone I know loves this movie as well.
- 16:20SPEAKER_02: That's the other thing.
- 16:22SPEAKER_02: I've not met a person that doesn't like this movie.
- 16:24SPEAKER_00: That's so true.
- 16:25SPEAKER_00: It's so true, because it's like it's funny, but it has so much heart.
- 16:29SPEAKER_02: It does, yeah.
- 16:31SPEAKER_00: Like it's such it's a universally beloved movie, and I I think dumb humor is also universal.
- 16:37SPEAKER_00: Like you can show this to a friend that doesn't speak English and they'll understand the whole thing and they'll laugh at all the points that we laugh at.
- 16:44SPEAKER_02: Well, I think that's like the it's the Mr.
- 16:46SPEAKER_02: Bean sort of thing, isn't it?
- 16:47SPEAKER_02: Of like you can do the expressions, and that's all you need, really, because it's like so universal.
- 16:52SPEAKER_02: That's why he's so Mr.
- 16:53SPEAKER_02: Bean was so big worldwide.
- 16:55SPEAKER_00: So popul.
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: I know, yeah.
- 16:57SPEAKER_00: And it's like you go back to TikTok now, and a lot of the most famous TikTokers don't say a single word.
- 17:04SPEAKER_00: Like that guy, Kabi Lame.
- 17:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:06SPEAKER_01: He doesn't say anything, and he doesn't say anything.
- 17:08SPEAKER_00: He's just like you know, he has yeah, he's the second most followed TikToker in the world.
- 17:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: But that shit translates.
- 17:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it does.
- 17:17SPEAKER_00: Bring back dumb humor.
- 17:20SPEAKER_02: That's what you've got to write.
- 17:24SPEAKER_02: That's gonna be your next pilot.
- 17:26SPEAKER_00: I know, no, really.
- 17:27SPEAKER_00: I love stupid, I love stupid humor.
- 17:29SPEAKER_00: Because like that shit gets that, like, I'm I want my stomach to be hurting when I'm laughing.
- 17:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:35SPEAKER_02: So like I guess how many times do you think you could have seen this for this point then?
- 17:40SPEAKER_02: I know I can imagine it's a lot.
- 17:43SPEAKER_00: Like 15 minimum.
- 17:47SPEAKER_02: I thought it was gonna be more than that.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: I'm another thing you should know about me is I never re-watch movies.
- 17:53SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: Because there are so many movies that I want to watch that it's very hard for me to like go back to a movie.
- 18:00SPEAKER_00: Even if I like it, I'll be like, oh check that out again.
- 18:02SPEAKER_00: I won't rewatch it.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: I don't like it.
- 18:04SPEAKER_02: Interesting.
- 18:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 18:05SPEAKER_00: So 15 is a lot for me.
- 18:06SPEAKER_02: 15 is a lot then, yeah.
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: Two is a lot for me.
- 18:09SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 18:10SPEAKER_00: You know?
- 18:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 18:11SPEAKER_02: So what are the comedies that you really like then?
- 18:14SPEAKER_00: Like movies?
- 18:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:17SPEAKER_00: Um the only two movies that have made me piss my pants laughing is White Chicks and Borat.
- 18:25SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 18:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that makes sense then.
- 18:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: That was, you know, especially for like when it came out and like how young it was and what my or how young I was and what my sense of humor were was.
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: It was, uh, it's so it's still so funny.
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: I think that, you know, they got a lot of flack for making fun of Kazakhstan, which, you know, they did, but most of the humor was on Borat.
- 18:48SPEAKER_00: Like the joke was also always on Borat.
- 18:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: Most of the time.
- 18:52SPEAKER_02: Most of the time.
- 18:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, most of the time it is on him specifically.
- 18:55SPEAKER_02: Or it's about like it's about the uh the joke is about the prejudice as opposed to like prejudice against Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 19:04SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, I was like I saw that two times in two days at the cinema.
- 19:09SPEAKER_02: I went I went back and watched it again because I loved it so much.
- 19:12SPEAKER_02: And now I'm like, oh, okay, it was good.
- 19:15SPEAKER_02: I like it, but I don't I don't know how well it holds up anymore.
- 19:18SPEAKER_00: I haven't, honestly, I haven't seen it since it came out.
- 19:23SPEAKER_02: So I haven't seen it in a long time.
- 19:25SPEAKER_02: I watched the new one when it came out, and okay.
- 19:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I enjoyed that.
- 19:29unknown: Yeah.
- 19:30SPEAKER_00: So I'm like, okay, maybe.
- 19:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean it does really.
- 19:33SPEAKER_02: Maybe it does hold up.
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: Maybe it does.
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: I think okay, I don't know.
- 19:37SPEAKER_00: I feel like the humor, especially the parts where the jokes are on him, holds up.
- 19:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:42SPEAKER_00: But you know, I don't want to say for the people that didn't say this.
- 19:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 19:48SPEAKER_02: But I guess like this this definitely holds up better, I will say, than that.
- 19:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:55SPEAKER_00: I mean, I did choose this movie.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: So I'm off the hook.
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: It's just in case.
- 20:02SPEAKER_02: No, you're fine.
- 20:03SPEAKER_02: This this is fine.
- 20:04SPEAKER_02: I don't think there's anything wrong with it specifically.
- 20:07SPEAKER_02: I mean, there's a couple that like hashtag Nikita is over party.
- 20:11SPEAKER_02: Nikita is cancelled.
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, no, white checks, I think at the beginning is weird because they just randomly speak Spanish for no reason or make fun of Mexican culture.
- 20:24SPEAKER_00: And I think that was like a weird start to the movie because it didn't.
- 20:29SPEAKER_02: I still love it.
- 20:34SPEAKER_00: If it's fun, honestly, if it's funny, it's funny.
- 20:37SPEAKER_00: Like nobody, I haven't heard of anyone saying that they didn't like that part, but compared to the rest of the movie, it was like the joke didn't tie into the other stuff.
- 20:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but I know what you're saying.
- 20:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, but no, that scene is very funny.
- 20:51SPEAKER_02: I think it's purely a way of getting them in prosthetics so they can do something later.
- 20:57SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, I didn't even think about it like that.
- 20:59SPEAKER_00: You're right, that makes sense.
- 21:01SPEAKER_02: So they can go, oh okay, we've done this already, so now we know these people that we can go to.
- 21:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's why.
- 21:08SPEAKER_00: Okay, because I was like, Kevin just knows a plastic surgeon.
- 21:14SPEAKER_02: But yeah, that the at the same time, they don't introduce those people until they get them later on.
- 21:18SPEAKER_02: So it's like, they go, who are they?
- 21:22SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 21:24SPEAKER_00: But I was like, I get it, I get what they're trying to do.
- 21:28SPEAKER_02: But yeah, that scene makes me laugh because it it's again, it's Marlon doing like the stupid faces and like singing, and it just yeah, it's dumb, but it's it's so funny.
- 21:38SPEAKER_00: And the fact that they shot up the wrong people.
- 21:41SPEAKER_00: This guy is just like, I'm just trying to sell ice cream, and he was the most non suspecting guy.
- 21:47SPEAKER_00: But the another another part that I really love is the relationship between um what's Marlon's character?
- 21:54SPEAKER_02: Marlon is called Marcus.
- 21:56SPEAKER_00: Marcus, okay, Marcus and his wife, Gina is so.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: Funny because she's so paranoid.
- 22:02SPEAKER_02: That's you know what?
- 22:04SPEAKER_02: That's the part I hate actually.
- 22:05SPEAKER_02: That's the part I don't know.
- 22:06SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 22:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:07SPEAKER_00: Really?
- 22:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:09SPEAKER_00: Why?
- 22:10SPEAKER_02: Because it's the one thing where I'm like, why is she so paranoid?
- 22:17SPEAKER_02: Because she knows he's an FBI agent.
- 22:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:20SPEAKER_02: Um, and it makes her look bad.
- 22:23SPEAKER_02: Where and then they try and save it at the end by like, oh yeah, I haven't been around or whatever, which is nice, but like it make it just it it seems like it's making her look bad for no reason.
- 22:34SPEAKER_00: Okay, I can see that.
- 22:34SPEAKER_00: I can see that.
- 22:35SPEAKER_00: But yeah, the for that scene, you know the scene where um it's uh fuck, I keep forgetting the names.
- 22:42SPEAKER_00: Marcus?
- 22:42SPEAKER_02: Marcus and Kevin.
- 22:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Marcus and Kevin.
- 22:45SPEAKER_00: So Marcus is changing into a really tiny shirt.
- 22:48SPEAKER_02: Oh, that is funny, yeah.
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: His wife is on the phone and the shopping attendant comes in and is like, you're never gonna get that big head through that tiny little hole.
- 22:56SPEAKER_00: And Gina's like, what?
- 22:58SPEAKER_00: What head through what hole?
- 23:00SPEAKER_00: It was that scene is like that makes me laugh so hard.
- 23:02SPEAKER_00: Because they nail they nail all the sex metaphors.
- 23:06SPEAKER_00: It's like, who would talk like that during sex?
- 23:10SPEAKER_00: Is that kink shamey?
- 23:12SPEAKER_00: Whoops.
- 23:14SPEAKER_00: I just want you guys to know if you do talk like that during sex, it's fine.
- 23:18SPEAKER_00: Slash call me in next time.
- 23:21SPEAKER_02: The kink of a uh of a change in room.
- 23:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, changing room kink.
- 23:27SPEAKER_00: Which people probably have it's so tight, but it looks good.
- 23:33SPEAKER_00: And Gio's like, what's tight?
- 23:37SPEAKER_02: That's that's the one scene of them, the two of them that I do like, actually.
- 23:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 23:42SPEAKER_02: But this who else is in it?
- 23:44SPEAKER_02: So there's uh uh who is it?
- 23:47SPEAKER_02: It's Jamie Jamie King and Brittany Daniel of the Vander Guild.
- 23:52SPEAKER_02: The Vandergild, the rivals.
- 23:53SPEAKER_02: The rivals.
- 23:54SPEAKER_02: No, um, yeah, sorry, the rivals, yeah, yeah.
- 23:57SPEAKER_02: Oh, let me explain the plot for anyone who hasn't seen it.
- 24:00SPEAKER_02: If you if you haven't seen it, which I'm just gave away so many scenes.
- 24:03SPEAKER_02: I imagine people have seen it if they're listening to this, but like um, so it's two FBI agents.
- 24:10SPEAKER_02: It says they're brothers, I didn't realise they were brothers.
- 24:13SPEAKER_02: Did you?
- 24:13SPEAKER_00: I didn't know they were brothers either.
- 24:15SPEAKER_00: I just thought they were um partners.
- 24:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I just thought they were partners.
- 24:18SPEAKER_02: But um so they're the brothers and they um they accidentally foil a drug bust, and as a punishment, they are forced to take two socialite sisters to the Hamptons for the weekend, uh, where they're gonna be used these ham these sisters are gonna be used as bait for a kidnapper, but then they get in a car accident, and the sisters refuse to go to the Hamptons, so they decide they're gonna have to dress up as them to uh pose as them, basically.
- 24:46SPEAKER_00: And they they get this prost they get all these prosthetics on in order to like To look like white girls to look like white girls, they're two they're two black men, and then it's a ridiculous premise, but it's yeah, and we're supposed to believe that everyone in the movie believes that these are Britney and Tiffany, the real Britney and Tiffany.
- 25:08SPEAKER_02: Absolutely nothing like them.
- 25:10SPEAKER_00: Absolutely nothing like them, so obviously done up.
- 25:14SPEAKER_00: They I love that they don't acknowledge that at all.
- 25:17SPEAKER_00: And when someone is slightly suspicious, they're like, oh yeah, we just got surgery done, and Dr.
- 25:22SPEAKER_00: Dorfman did my eyebrows and all that, and it's like, oh yeah, but this is their world, you know.
- 25:27SPEAKER_02: We got our knees done, they say we got our knees done, yeah.
- 25:30SPEAKER_00: Cause they're like, Why are you girls so tall all of a sudden?
- 25:33SPEAKER_00: And we got our knees done, and all the girls go, you can do that.
- 25:41SPEAKER_00: So yeah, it's absolutely ridiculous that we are supposed to believe that everyone else is like, yeah, these are the women.
- 25:49SPEAKER_02: But there's um what was I gonna say?
- 25:52SPEAKER_02: They they have this, like, I don't know why they they uh everyone believes it, but at the same time, like I can see it happening.
- 26:02SPEAKER_02: What I can see people believing it because like you can see, I can imagine at this sort of time period everyone getting that kind of surgery on their at least on their faces.
- 26:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 26:12SPEAKER_02: Where it's so ridiculous.
- 26:14SPEAKER_00: Uh but also Yeah, oh, I really think that especially now, especially now, you know, people will be like, oh, I can probably tell that you guys are faking it, but I'm not gonna say anything because we don't do that anymore.
- 26:28SPEAKER_00: So white chicks would actually be believable in that respect.
- 26:34SPEAKER_02: Uh one thing I was gonna say was like, do you remember why nobody has seen these real two girls for a year?
- 26:42SPEAKER_00: It wasn't a year, it was just uh actually the time period is unclear.
- 26:46SPEAKER_02: Well, the the their friends, the three friends say we haven't seen you in a year.
- 26:49SPEAKER_00: I don't remember that.
- 26:50SPEAKER_00: That never came back.
- 26:51SPEAKER_02: I don't know why.
- 26:52SPEAKER_02: It was like a thing.
- 26:53SPEAKER_00: I don't I don't know.
- 26:56SPEAKER_00: I I I just assumed like every year they all come to this convention at the Hamptons.
- 27:00SPEAKER_02: That's probably what it is, yeah.
- 27:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's probably what it is.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: But it was so they just like really nailed on these girls because at one point um one of the brothers talks to Tori and um he's like, uh, did you did you just, you know, did you get a haircut?
- 27:18SPEAKER_00: She's like, no.
- 27:18SPEAKER_00: He's like, did you gain weight?
- 27:19SPEAKER_00: And she's like, what the fuck?
- 27:21SPEAKER_00: No.
- 27:21SPEAKER_00: And then he's like, I know, you just had a birthday.
- 27:24SPEAKER_00: And she's like, Yeah, I did.
- 27:25SPEAKER_00: He's like, total fire sign.
- 27:27SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, that is such a 2021 thing to say.
- 27:31SPEAKER_00: It is so like just bringing up astrology in that respect.
- 27:34SPEAKER_00: And I didn't get it, I didn't get it until I re-watched it like in 2021.
- 27:40SPEAKER_00: And I was like, that's what he was saying.
- 27:41SPEAKER_02: Is that something that would work on you?
- 27:44SPEAKER_00: Honestly, yes, it would.
- 27:46SPEAKER_00: Because I was thinking my birthday is in May.
- 27:48SPEAKER_00: And if somebody told me, Oh, did you just have a birthday?
- 27:51SPEAKER_00: The main character in me would be like, I did just have a birthday.
- 27:54SPEAKER_02: How did you know?
- 27:56SPEAKER_00: How should you know?
- 28:00SPEAKER_00: Even though we are like, what, six months away from that?
- 28:03SPEAKER_02: Not quite.
- 28:04SPEAKER_02: Well, yeah, we're a few we're at least enough time away from it that it's like.
- 28:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, to not just, yeah, exactly.
- 28:11SPEAKER_02: Um obviously like the two girls are supposed to be like the Hilton sisters.
- 28:16SPEAKER_02: They're they're called the Wilson sisters in this, though.
- 28:18SPEAKER_02: They're supposed to be the Hiltons.
- 28:19SPEAKER_02: They are supposed to be the Hiltons.
- 28:20SPEAKER_02: Who were the big socialites of the time.
- 28:23SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 28:24SPEAKER_02: Uh free Kim Kardashian for anyone out anyone young out there.
- 28:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's so strange now.
- 28:35SPEAKER_02: I don't know how well you remember them at the time.
- 28:38SPEAKER_00: Um I remember because I was very small when Paris Hulton was a big thing, but I remember hearing about her name all the time.
- 28:47SPEAKER_00: And I would remember hearing about her in like gossip magazine and painted as like this shallow diva narcissistic bitch.
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: And now it's like, what she wasn't hurting anyone.
- 29:02SPEAKER_02: No, but like she was literally just partying.
- 29:05SPEAKER_02: The thing is, like, now it's it's really strange because I've heard she is one of the nicest people.
- 29:11SPEAKER_00: I'm sure.
- 29:12SPEAKER_00: I mean, have you seen her on The Simple Life?
- 29:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, she's so just pure in that.
- 29:18SPEAKER_02: Well, the Simple Life is so staged as well.
- 29:20SPEAKER_02: That's the other thing.
- 29:21SPEAKER_00: It is, it is true.
- 29:22SPEAKER_00: But if you put her personality next to Nicole Ritchie's, oh yeah, Nicole Ritchie is the one who's always getting into trouble and saying off-kiltered things, and Paris is the one that, like, you know, brings it all together.
- 29:34SPEAKER_02: I know a couple of people who have met her, like, like in person, and they say she's so friendly to everyone, she's so genuine.
- 29:40SPEAKER_00: So, but if you think about like this movie, I don't know if it was set to make fun of socialites, but it they didn't.
- 29:47SPEAKER_00: They showed Britney and Tiffany, I thought, very honestly, and they showed the Hamptons and all those people, like aside from the Vandergill twins.
- 29:54SPEAKER_00: I thought they gave a lot of heart to these shallow people.
- 29:57SPEAKER_02: And even their friends are all like shown as like three really nice people.
- 30:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, three really nice people.
- 30:03SPEAKER_00: And what else was I gonna say?
- 30:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think 2004 was a time where everyone was making fun of women and painting them in horrible light.
- 30:14SPEAKER_00: But white chicks didn't do that.
- 30:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's which is strange.
- 30:18SPEAKER_02: It's like a a it it went against the grain of of everything that you were expecting, I guess.
- 30:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 30:24SPEAKER_02: Um, do you know how many writers this movie had, by the way?
- 30:27SPEAKER_00: A lot, like six, six seven, six, that's hilarious.
- 30:32SPEAKER_02: It had Sean, Sean and Marlon, but it also had Keenan Ivory Wends, the director, he also wrote it.
- 30:38SPEAKER_02: And then it had three people I've never heard of in my life Xavier Cook, Andy McElfrich, and Michael Anthony Snowden.
- 30:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I never never heard of any of those people.
- 30:48SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, I don't know what their deal was.
- 30:51SPEAKER_02: And I wonder if they wrote it and then the three of them punched, like did punch-ups on it.
- 30:56SPEAKER_00: Well, I was reading an interview with um Sean and Marlon, and they were talking about how the script was really just a blueprint, and a lot of the jokes were improvised.
- 31:05SPEAKER_02: That makes a lot of sense.
- 31:06SPEAKER_00: Because it would make sense for both of their personality too.
- 31:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 31:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 31:12SPEAKER_00: The um the your mama jokes.
- 31:14SPEAKER_00: Oh those all those were all classic, by the way.
- 31:17SPEAKER_00: Like I still laughed at those.
- 31:20SPEAKER_02: Well, I I read that one of them was um, you know the one where they says, she says, your mama, your mama was so old.
- 31:29SPEAKER_02: Old.
- 31:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the old the the breast milk one.
- 31:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 31:33SPEAKER_00: Your mama's so old, her breast milk is like powder, and then he blows into his hand and powder comes out.
- 31:39SPEAKER_02: That's a m a Monique joke from uh BET in the 90s, apparently.
- 31:43SPEAKER_00: Oh, is it?
- 31:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 31:44SPEAKER_00: Oh, so they just stole it.
- 31:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but I'm sure but they were around her, so they obviously knew her.
- 31:50SPEAKER_00: Okay, but still, if it's her joke.
- 31:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 31:54SPEAKER_02: I didn't know that until like today when I was reading the trivia.
- 31:57SPEAKER_00: Oh, I didn't know that.
- 31:58SPEAKER_00: Oh.
- 32:00SPEAKER_00: Lame.
- 32:01SPEAKER_00: I thought that, yeah, that's a really funny joke.
- 32:03SPEAKER_00: But all the all the yo mamas are hilarious in that moment.
- 32:07SPEAKER_02: Especially because the the the other comebacks from the other girls are like really bad.
- 32:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 32:13SPEAKER_00: And they're all like rich people, this is.
- 32:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:15SPEAKER_00: Like, your mama um gets a ni squa salad, it's like ni sois salad, and she pronounces it a ni coi salad.
- 32:25SPEAKER_00: Get it, guys.
- 32:26SPEAKER_02: Your your mother shops at sax.
- 32:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 32:30SPEAKER_02: Like that's the joke.
- 32:32SPEAKER_00: Your m what's the joke?
- 32:36SPEAKER_00: So I don't even know.
- 32:37SPEAKER_02: It's like is sax a bad thing?
- 32:39SPEAKER_02: Is that no?
- 32:41SPEAKER_00: Sax is pretty high end, but the fact that that's a diss is that those girls are above sex.
- 32:50SPEAKER_00: What did you think about the whole um Terry Cruz and uh Tiffany slash Marcus relationship?
- 33:01SPEAKER_02: So looking back on it now, I can see how problematic that is.
- 33:10SPEAKER_02: But I used to think that was the funniest part of the movie.
- 33:15SPEAKER_00: I still think that.
- 33:16SPEAKER_02: It's very strange.
- 33:18SPEAKER_00: I think it's so funny.
- 33:19SPEAKER_00: It is creepy when you think about those kind of guys talking to real women like that.
- 33:24SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 33:25SPEAKER_00: That was like Marcus is a dude, and it's like the comedy is this is all happening to a guy who did not ask for any of this, slash is a dude, you know?
- 33:36SPEAKER_00: And like Terry Cruz doesn't know that.
- 33:39SPEAKER_00: And it's so like oh, it's so funny.
- 33:42SPEAKER_00: And like Terry Cruz has bodied that role.
- 33:44SPEAKER_02: Oh, he that made him a star.
- 33:46SPEAKER_00: That made him that yes, that's so true.
- 33:49SPEAKER_00: That that role made him a star.
- 33:50SPEAKER_02: Like he he done a couple of like bit parts here and there, but like then he did this and was suddenly huge.
- 33:56SPEAKER_02: He was everywhere after this.
- 34:00SPEAKER_02: Um, but he he is so funny in this role.
- 34:04SPEAKER_00: So good.
- 34:05SPEAKER_00: It was made for him.
- 34:06SPEAKER_02: It yeah.
- 34:07SPEAKER_02: And I read that he did the thousand miles scene in one take.
- 34:14SPEAKER_00: That so the thousand miles and the other um song that he dances to, Satisfaction.
- 34:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he was talking about how he listened to those songs on repeat for days.
- 34:25SPEAKER_00: Because he had to, because he had that dance scene to satisfaction, and then he obviously did the whole singing rendition of Thousand Miles, which by the way, this movie put that song on the map.
- 34:35SPEAKER_02: It did, yeah.
- 34:36SPEAKER_00: Thousand miles.
- 34:37SPEAKER_02: I associate that that that song with this movie, with this movie, exactly.
- 34:41SPEAKER_00: And I can't speak for everyone, but I feel like the Thousand Miles was not that big of a song before this movie.
- 34:46SPEAKER_00: I think most people know it from this movie.
- 34:48SPEAKER_02: A lot of people know it from this movie, yeah.
- 34:50SPEAKER_02: It was a big song, but it wasn't huge, huge.
- 34:52SPEAKER_00: And then some of it was huge.
- 34:54SPEAKER_00: It would like I feel that this movie kind of gave it that nostalgia factor too.
- 34:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 34:59SPEAKER_00: Because now when you hear a thousand miles, you're like, ooh, throwback, you know, it kind of gets you in that nostalgic mood.
- 35:05SPEAKER_00: It does, yeah.
- 35:06SPEAKER_00: I don't know if it would have been the same.
- 35:10SPEAKER_00: What?
- 35:11SPEAKER_00: Okay, what if this movie was made in 2021?
- 35:14SPEAKER_00: What would that song be that the girls are singing with all the other girls?
- 35:17SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 35:18SPEAKER_02: See, I'm not as up on pop music.
- 35:21SPEAKER_00: So I think it would be Good for You by Olivia Rodrigo.
- 35:26SPEAKER_02: But that's too recent, isn't it?
- 35:29SPEAKER_00: If this movie was made in 2021, then that would be the song.
- 35:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but that's what I mean.
- 35:35SPEAKER_02: It's too like A Thousand Miles was like a couple of years old at that point, wasn't it?
- 35:40SPEAKER_00: Not really.
- 35:40SPEAKER_00: It was around the same time.
- 35:42SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay.
- 35:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I guess, yeah, it's it's definitely an Olivia Rodrigo song then.
- 35:46SPEAKER_00: Terry Cruz singing an Olivia Rodrigo song.
- 35:50SPEAKER_00: That's the point where people would be like, wait, like it would be hilarious for the audience, and then the character with him would be like, oh no, I thought this was my way out, but it's not.
- 36:01SPEAKER_02: Do you not think it would be driver's license?
- 36:04SPEAKER_00: I think it would be well, good for you as like more a beat and more like angry girl music.
- 36:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 36:09SPEAKER_00: So it would be even weirder if this like buff masculine dude was into that song.
- 36:14SPEAKER_00: It would be very funny.
- 36:15SPEAKER_00: It would be very funny, especially Terry Cruz in that role.
- 36:20SPEAKER_02: Did you ever see him do uh the lip sync battle?
- 36:26SPEAKER_00: No.
- 36:27SPEAKER_02: So he obviously did a thousand miles of course as as one of his two songs, but uh he changed like the thing is like when he did it, he changed uh he changed up the moves.
- 36:40SPEAKER_02: So like I associate like all the moves from this, and I was like, I I'm expecting him to do the moves.
- 36:46SPEAKER_00: The moves, yeah.
- 36:47SPEAKER_02: Oh and he did, but he didn't do any of them, and I'm like, oh no.
- 36:53SPEAKER_02: It feels weird.
- 36:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the people, but they were, yeah.
- 36:57SPEAKER_02: So I like I didn't enjoy it seeing it.
- 37:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 37:04SPEAKER_02: And that was weird, that was a weird show.
- 37:06SPEAKER_02: Like he he battled Mike Tyson.
- 37:08SPEAKER_00: I don't even remember, I don't think I watched any of those ever.
- 37:13SPEAKER_00: It seems like such a weird concept.
- 37:15SPEAKER_02: It is a it's an awful concept.
- 37:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 37:17SPEAKER_02: Um but yes, it's so one other thing about Terry Cruz is it's so weird from like here this show from this movie to now.
- 37:28SPEAKER_02: So what is it?
- 37:28SPEAKER_02: It's uh 16, it's 17 years, right?
- 37:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he's been in three uh full length shows.
- 37:37SPEAKER_02: He's done three Brooklyn 99, Everybody Hates Chris, and uh Are We There Yet?
- 37:45SPEAKER_00: I don't know that last one.
- 37:47SPEAKER_02: So that was uh it was a spin-off of the the movie Are We There Yet.
- 37:52SPEAKER_00: I don't know the movie either.
- 37:53SPEAKER_02: Oh you don't even know the movie?
- 37:55SPEAKER_02: It was a uh an ice cube movie.
- 37:58SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay.
- 37:58SPEAKER_00: No.
- 37:59SPEAKER_02: So that ran and that ran for I'm just trying to find it.
- 38:04SPEAKER_02: He did 73 episodes of that.
- 38:07SPEAKER_00: Wow, good for him.
- 38:09SPEAKER_00: He deserves everything.
- 38:10SPEAKER_02: 88 episodes of Everybody Hates Chris, 73 episodes of of Are We There Yet, and he's done 153 episodes of Brooklyn 99.
- 38:21SPEAKER_00: Like, he's first of all, there are that many Brooklyn 9-9 episodes.
- 38:24SPEAKER_02: It's been on for eight years.
- 38:27SPEAKER_00: What?
- 38:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, wow, okay.
- 38:30SPEAKER_02: That's what I find so crazy, is like he's done full three full shows, and he's been in like so many movies in that time as well.
- 38:36SPEAKER_02: Like he has stayed.
- 38:38SPEAKER_00: He's busy.
- 38:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he has stayed busy.
- 38:42SPEAKER_00: And that role really, the white chicks role really started it all for him.
- 38:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, literally, like Wow, amazing, iconic.
- 38:48SPEAKER_02: Everybody hates Chris was a year later.
- 38:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 38:51SPEAKER_00: Also, you know who is a surprise guest in that show that I was not expecting?
- 38:54SPEAKER_02: Who?
- 38:56SPEAKER_00: Jennifer Carpenter.
- 38:58SPEAKER_02: Oh, in the movie.
- 38:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, in the movie.
- 39:00SPEAKER_00: So I don't mean everybody hates Chris.
- 39:02SPEAKER_00: No, no, no, no, no.
- 39:02SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry.
- 39:03SPEAKER_00: Not everybody.
- 39:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Jennifer Carpenter, I forgot she was in this.
- 39:06SPEAKER_00: I forgot she was in this too, and she played Dexter's sister for like she had such a big role in Dexter.
- 39:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's all I associate her with.
- 39:13SPEAKER_00: Exactly, yeah.
- 39:14SPEAKER_00: So I forgot that she was in this, and this was one of her earlier roles.
- 39:18SPEAKER_00: That was fun.
- 39:19SPEAKER_00: Busy Phillips, too, but Busy Phillips I knew was in this.
- 39:22SPEAKER_02: I knew I I kind of knew I was like aware they were both in it, but I forgot they were both in it.
- 39:28SPEAKER_02: And so, like, when I was watching it again, I was like, oh yeah, yeah, it's then.
- 39:31SPEAKER_02: And Busy Phillips was like this it's weird because Busy Phillips was like someone who should have been bigger at that time, but wasn't.
- 39:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but she wasn't, yeah.
- 39:42SPEAKER_02: Because she was coming off of well, it'd been a while since Freaks and Geeks.
- 39:46SPEAKER_02: Which was obviously like supposed to be like the turnout, the star.
- 39:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but Freaks and Geeks made James Franco and Seth Rogan blow up.
- 39:52SPEAKER_02: It made a lot of them blow up.
- 39:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 39:55SPEAKER_00: I forget who else was in that.
- 39:56SPEAKER_00: But yeah, Busy deserved more.
- 39:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, she didn't know.
- 39:58SPEAKER_00: That's just for Busy.
- 39:59SPEAKER_02: She's very good in this as well.
- 40:00SPEAKER_02: She's very funny.
- 40:01SPEAKER_00: She's so funny in this one.
- 40:03SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm not so um, I don't like Jennifer Carfinter in this.
- 40:07SPEAKER_00: She didn't have much of a role, to be fair.
- 40:09SPEAKER_00: Although the part where she is changing into this like beautiful outfit, and she's like, What do you think?
- 40:14SPEAKER_00: And then Sean, or whatever, I'm mixing up all of their names.
- 40:18SPEAKER_00: He's like, You look so sexy.
- 40:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 40:19SPEAKER_00: And she's goes, What?
- 40:21SPEAKER_00: Are you kidding me?
- 40:22SPEAKER_00: And then just launches into all of her insecurities, and Marcus has no idea what to do.
- 40:28SPEAKER_00: He's like, Oh, okay, oh look at someone.
- 40:31SPEAKER_00: I don't know, you look great.
- 40:32SPEAKER_00: And she's like, What do you mean I look great?
- 40:34SPEAKER_00: I look like shit.
- 40:37SPEAKER_02: That's the bit I really have to do.
- 40:38SPEAKER_02: It was so I hate it.
- 40:40SPEAKER_00: Why?
- 40:41SPEAKER_00: It's so funny.
- 40:42SPEAKER_02: It's too over the top for me.
- 40:44SPEAKER_00: It's too realistic for me.
- 40:45SPEAKER_00: Like it's too, yeah, it's because I've been in those situations.
- 40:48SPEAKER_00: You've been in those situations so many times with friends, with myself, or you know, someone looks amazing and they're like, yeah, but my shoulder looks weird and this, and then my stomach's popping out too much, and my thighs are there.
- 41:02SPEAKER_00: So it's like, it's such um.
- 41:04SPEAKER_00: I feel like every girl has either been in this situation or been part of this situation, or both multiple times.
- 41:10SPEAKER_00: And it hasn't stopped, by the way.
- 41:12SPEAKER_00: I'm still like I'm 28 and I'm still in these situations.
- 41:15SPEAKER_02: That makes sense now.
- 41:16SPEAKER_02: Okay, that that's fair enough.
- 41:17SPEAKER_02: I've not been in the situation.
- 41:19SPEAKER_02: I probably would be, I probably would react in the same way that he does in this.
- 41:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly.
- 41:26SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 41:26SPEAKER_00: That's why probably uncovered.
- 41:28SPEAKER_02: And like freak out and just yeah.
- 41:30SPEAKER_00: Well, to be fair, I don't know what to do either, except either be like, shut up, you look great, or be, I don't know.
- 41:36SPEAKER_00: I'm very realistic.
- 41:37SPEAKER_02: I feel like that's what that is, what you would say.
- 41:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 41:41SPEAKER_02: You're like, I'm not, I'm not taking that.
- 41:44SPEAKER_00: I yeah, exactly.
- 41:45SPEAKER_00: And I think that a lot of the backlash this movie got for stereotyping women in like this very shallow way.
- 41:52SPEAKER_00: It was correct stereotyping, you know, it wasn't it was nothing.
- 41:56SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 41:56SPEAKER_00: I'm trying to think of like other so-called stereotypes that they were wrong about.
- 42:02SPEAKER_00: They weren't like all the girls were you know chatting at a sleepover, doing each other's hair.
- 42:07SPEAKER_00: Like, that's not a weird stereotype.
- 42:10SPEAKER_00: I honestly can't remember any.
- 42:12SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 42:12SPEAKER_02: I can't speak for it, so I can't speak for the women.
- 42:15SPEAKER_02: Like, I can't say that.
- 42:16SPEAKER_00: Um yeah.
- 42:18SPEAKER_02: The other the third, but also the third um friend is uh she was very big at the time because she was she was in like a bunch of stuff, but like she was also famous for like being in legally blonde.
- 42:32SPEAKER_02: And she's like she she played a lot of like the side character friend roles, that girl.
- 42:37SPEAKER_02: But she's very good in it.
- 42:38SPEAKER_00: Tori?
- 42:39SPEAKER_00: Was it the third friend?
- 42:40SPEAKER_02: The third friend, yeah.
- 42:41SPEAKER_02: She was always the third friend, she was always like the side character.
- 42:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I feel like she didn't have much in oh my god, oh my god, I just remembered something.
- 42:49SPEAKER_00: This movie talked about Karen's before Karen was named.
- 42:54SPEAKER_02: I was gonna say that.
- 42:55SPEAKER_02: I forgot about that.
- 42:56SPEAKER_00: I liter I'm so glad I remembered this because I had totally forgotten.
- 43:00SPEAKER_00: I had this like revelation during the movie that they invented Karen.
- 43:05SPEAKER_00: They invented Karen was already around.
- 43:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but the stereotype, they're the ones, they're one of the first people who I knew that made fun of Karen's in that way.
- 43:14SPEAKER_00: Especially like that scene where um they dress up as Britney and Tiffany and they're like, I want to speak to your manager.
- 43:21SPEAKER_00: No, I'm going to write a letter.
- 43:26SPEAKER_00: And back in 2004, that was probably like the passive aggressive thing to do, right?
- 43:31SPEAKER_00: Like nowadays, it would be I'm gonna write a Google review.
- 43:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 43:35SPEAKER_02: But also, do you know what Busy Phillips character's name is in this?
- 43:39SPEAKER_02: It's Karen.
- 43:40SPEAKER_02: Karen.
- 43:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 43:41SPEAKER_00: It's Karen.
- 43:44SPEAKER_00: Mm hmm.
- 43:45SPEAKER_00: Which is just I wonder I see, I don't think I think that was just like a coincidence.
- 43:49SPEAKER_00: It's a coincidence.
- 43:50SPEAKER_00: Karen became a meme.
- 43:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but it's such a it's interesting foreshadowing.
- 43:54SPEAKER_00: But the I'm gonna write a letter to it.
- 43:56SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna write a letter.
- 43:57SPEAKER_02: It's so such a great joke.
- 43:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 44:00SPEAKER_00: So it's such a yeah.
- 44:03SPEAKER_00: And then all the things that they say about black men in the movie are so like they'll just be like, oh what a beautiful chocolate band he is.
- 44:14SPEAKER_00: And then just like ha ha ha ha ha.
- 44:15SPEAKER_00: And then um the boss, like the Marcus's and um Kevin's boss, is just like, yeah.
- 44:23SPEAKER_00: He's like, you know, they call him Denzel.
- 44:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they call him Denzel, and they think like they're being, you know, nice and polite.
- 44:31SPEAKER_00: So so awful.
- 44:33SPEAKER_00: It's so funny, too.
- 44:34SPEAKER_00: And like that's such a um, that was that just felt so realistic.
- 44:38SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, absolutely.
- 44:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, especially of the time.
- 44:42SPEAKER_00: Like of the time the two socialites, like the real Britney and Tiffany, yeah, they get off the plane, and when um Marcus and Kevin greet them, they're like, we already gave to the United Negro fund.
- 44:54SPEAKER_00: Like it was so uh it's the way they touched on that.
- 45:01SPEAKER_02: They know because they know exactly what they're gonna do.
- 45:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they know exactly what people can say to them.
- 45:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I'm sure like they've been in those situations so many times that they're like, yeah, we are just gonna have to make fun of it.
- 45:12SPEAKER_00: And it was so like just so beautifully done.
- 45:17SPEAKER_00: But other than that, you know, like so many good things about this movie, it's so quotable as well.
- 45:22SPEAKER_02: It is really quotable.
- 45:23SPEAKER_02: Like the uh one of the lines that I always love is like um she's gonna have a BF, and then it's like, what's a BF?
- 45:29SPEAKER_02: She's like, She's gonna have a bitch fit.
- 45:31SPEAKER_00: Bitch fit, yeah.
- 45:33SPEAKER_00: I that should have caught on more to be sure.
- 45:35SPEAKER_00: I'm surprised.
- 45:39SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna have a BF.
- 45:41SPEAKER_00: One of the lines that when um Britney and Tiffany, the real Britney and Tiffany are talking, and Tiffany says something like really offensive, yeah, and Britney's like, oh my god, Brittany, you were thinking it, but you said it.
- 45:56SPEAKER_00: Me and my friends have quoted that line to each other so many.
- 45:59SPEAKER_02: Oh, me and my sisters do that all the time as well.
- 46:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 46:04SPEAKER_02: That's because it's like just what we say something stupid with.
- 46:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but you said it.
- 46:09SPEAKER_00: But you were thinking it, yeah.
- 46:15SPEAKER_00: It's so ugh, that and then when they're all in the car together and um Marcus says the N-word, and all the girls are like, you can't say that.
- 46:25SPEAKER_00: And then like Marcus dressed as a white girl, is like, so what?
- 46:28SPEAKER_00: No one's around.
- 46:30SPEAKER_00: And then they all say it's another very realistic stereotype.
- 46:36SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 46:37SPEAKER_02: It's yeah, very realistic.
- 46:39SPEAKER_00: Okay, because I truly could talk about this movie forever.
- 46:42SPEAKER_02: Um what I really like.
- 46:46SPEAKER_02: Terry Crew's line is like, once you go black, you're gonna need a wheelchair.
- 46:49SPEAKER_00: You're gonna need a wheelchair, and then a white woman rolls up on a wheelchair.
- 46:54SPEAKER_00: Like, I had so much fun last night.
- 46:58SPEAKER_02: Oh god, he's so good in this movie.
- 47:00SPEAKER_00: He's so yeah, he's so good in this movie.
- 47:02SPEAKER_00: Like just like everything, like I said, he really bodies in that role, and just the discomfort that and see that's another really funny thing, right?
- 47:10SPEAKER_00: Because I feel like a lot of men don't realize the extent of discomfort these creepy guys do to women.
- 47:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and then when Marcus was a woman, he realized, like, oh my god, this is what people go through, like this is what women go through.
- 47:26SPEAKER_02: The one thing is I don't like how they try and they almost try and redeem him at the end, but there's a point where he's like, he roofies her, he tries to roofie her.
- 47:35SPEAKER_00: Oh true.
- 47:36SPEAKER_02: And I'm like, why are you trying to redeem him for after that?
- 47:40SPEAKER_00: That is true, but then he also ends up drinking the roofie because like the joke is on him.
- 47:45SPEAKER_00: Thankfully he does.
- 47:46SPEAKER_00: Thankfully, thankfully, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 47:48SPEAKER_02: Because Marcus noticed that.
- 47:49SPEAKER_00: I'm glad, I'm glad that they did that because that could have very easily been the joke that um fake Tiffany takes the Roofy, and it still wouldn't have been, it wouldn't have been funny if they did that, even if it's Marcus being the one that's roofied.
- 48:03SPEAKER_00: So I'm glad that they put the joke on Terry Cruz.
- 48:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 48:07SPEAKER_02: I just don't like, yeah, I don't I don't think he should have been redeemed at the end.
- 48:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's a good point.
- 48:15SPEAKER_00: Wait, was he redeemed?
- 48:16SPEAKER_02: I feel like he just kind of he jumps in front of the bullet.
- 48:20SPEAKER_00: Oh, right, he did.
- 48:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 48:25SPEAKER_02: But and then he like walks off at the end with the two sisters.
- 48:29SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 48:30SPEAKER_00: He does walk off with the two sisters.
- 48:31SPEAKER_00: But that was also hilarious when he found out that Tiffany was actually Marcus, and he's like, Are you trying to tell me that you're not?
- 48:38SPEAKER_00: And he's like, Yeah, I'm not a woman.
- 48:39SPEAKER_00: He's like, You're not white.
- 48:48SPEAKER_00: Such a great ending.
- 48:50SPEAKER_02: Um I love how how into her he is, like, no matter what happened, like what he's doing.
- 48:59SPEAKER_02: He like tries everything possible to like try and get try and get it to lose interest.
- 49:04SPEAKER_02: He's like just as disgusting as possible.
- 49:07SPEAKER_02: He like puts his.
- 49:43SPEAKER_00: Which, to be fair, I would also do that if a rich man took me out to dinner.
- 49:47SPEAKER_00: I would order everything on the menu.
- 49:49SPEAKER_00: Like, I'm not paying anyway.
- 49:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, exactly.
- 49:51SPEAKER_02: If he can afford 50 grand at a charity, then he could afford to feed your own.
- 49:55SPEAKER_00: You can afford her eight main courses.
- 49:58SPEAKER_02: It's everything.
- 50:00SPEAKER_00: To me, the lion that was like so funny in that like every that whole scene was great.
- 50:05SPEAKER_00: But when um Tiffany talks, like, you know, you're not that great of a player, you know, you're this percentage is off, your free throws are really bad.
- 50:13SPEAKER_00: You're like in extent talking about how horrible he is in an effort to make him go away.
- 50:18SPEAKER_00: And he's like, nobody's ever cared like that before.
- 50:22SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 50:22SPEAKER_00: I was like, imagine if somebody said that to me, I would also feel the same way.
- 50:27SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 50:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like in the specificity telling me.
- 50:31SPEAKER_00: No, look, like if somebody saw my stand up and was like, here are the things you could work for work on, I would be like, Oh my god, you really care about making me a better comedian.
- 50:41SPEAKER_02: That feels like such a nick.
- 50:43SPEAKER_00: No, it doesn't.
- 50:45SPEAKER_00: It depends.
- 50:46SPEAKER_00: It depends.
- 50:47SPEAKER_00: I'm also like, I can be very self-critical.
- 50:50SPEAKER_02: So if somebody doesn't mean that someone should be self-crit, if some should be critical of you to to win you over.
- 50:56SPEAKER_00: Okay, but if somebody like really explained to me this is how you can improve, that would feel kind of good.
- 51:03SPEAKER_00: Like this person cares and making me better.
- 51:06SPEAKER_00: I can tell you're not gonna agree with me on that.
- 51:09SPEAKER_00: I don't agree with you.
- 51:10SPEAKER_02: I'd be so I'd be like, how do you?
- 51:17SPEAKER_00: Uh okay, fair.
- 51:19SPEAKER_00: If it's someone that I don't know, that would be weird.
- 51:21SPEAKER_02: But if it's like if it's someone on a first date, I'd be like, what are you doing?
- 51:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 51:24SPEAKER_00: If it's someone on a first date, then I would be like, okay, I'm gonna order more and make you pay for it.
- 51:30SPEAKER_00: But just the comment of nobody's ever cared like that.
- 51:34SPEAKER_02: It's very funny in the scene, yeah.
- 51:35SPEAKER_00: Really, yeah, really resonates.
- 51:37SPEAKER_02: And then he eats the oysters and he's he's like, Do you know oysters and afraid are an aphrodisiac?
- 51:41SPEAKER_02: And he like shows off his giant tongues.
- 51:43SPEAKER_00: Giant tongue.
- 51:44SPEAKER_02: It's ridiculous.
- 51:46SPEAKER_00: It's so, yeah.
- 51:47SPEAKER_00: This is just one of those movies where you like you have to watch it to see what on earth we're talking about.
- 51:52SPEAKER_00: If you haven't seen this movie, I'm surprised.
- 51:55SPEAKER_00: The only people have made it this far is the ones that have seen it.
- 51:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 51:58SPEAKER_02: Or the people or they're like, I'm really enjoying this, and I want to hear more about this movie.
- 52:03unknown: Exactly.
- 52:04SPEAKER_00: That I'm never gonna see.
- 52:05SPEAKER_00: So why not?
- 52:06SPEAKER_02: If you've made it this long without watching this movie as well, like you're actively choosing to avoid it.
- 52:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 52:14SPEAKER_02: Um, but there's while that's going on, it's like uh so first of all, he's like, he puts his foot, or he also puts his foot on the table and says, like, oh, I've got a hangnail, and like starts biting the toenail off.
- 52:26SPEAKER_02: It's disgusting.
- 52:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and Jerry Cruz loves all of that.
- 52:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Terry Cruz loves that.
- 52:30SPEAKER_02: Then he farts and he's like, Oh, oh, I love that as well.
- 52:33SPEAKER_02: He's like, and they and Terry Cruz farts as well.
- 52:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he's like, We're gonna get it.
- 52:36SPEAKER_00: And he's like, Oh, thank god, because I've been holding it.
- 52:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and while all that's going on, the uh the other two uh the rival uh FBI agents are like snooping around in the hotel.
- 52:50SPEAKER_00: The rival FBI, that was also a funny gag.
- 52:52SPEAKER_00: What the both of them would always be doing like who would you rather do?
- 52:56SPEAKER_00: And then the other one would always judge the other guy's answer.
- 53:00SPEAKER_00: And then he's like, Okay, then who would you pick?
- 53:01SPEAKER_00: And he's like, No time.
- 53:02SPEAKER_00: No time.
- 53:03SPEAKER_00: We're on a mission right now.
- 53:06SPEAKER_02: That's all they have to do in this movie.
- 53:09SPEAKER_02: So funny though.
- 53:10SPEAKER_00: This movie is such a masterclass in like bits.
- 53:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 53:15SPEAKER_00: They keep the same bits going and they keep you laughing.
- 53:18SPEAKER_02: It's good at bits and then heightening them as well.
- 53:20SPEAKER_02: That's what annoyes.
- 53:21SPEAKER_00: Yes, yeah.
- 53:22SPEAKER_02: Which is always good in a comedy.
- 53:23SPEAKER_02: Like, if you can't heighten it, then don't put it, don't add another, don't add the same bit again.
- 53:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 53:28SPEAKER_00: The callbacks, all of that stuff, yeah.
- 53:31SPEAKER_02: Um, but that they they snoop around and they find out that it's like the one of the while one of them is like sniffing the underwear, yeah.
- 53:40SPEAKER_02: The other one finds out that it's like it's the two of them, basically.
- 53:44SPEAKER_02: And he's like, oh, you're disgusting.
- 53:46SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 53:49SPEAKER_00: But that's like, yeah, that I feel like that is one of those um when people were still like not homophobic, but still like, ooh, men on men, that's gross.
- 53:59SPEAKER_00: I feel like that joke, like that scene, probably just like wouldn't hit as hard as it did in 2004.
- 54:06SPEAKER_02: I think now, if it were to be done and they wanted a laugh out of it, it would just be the fact that it's the two rivals and not not the fact that it's men.
- 54:14SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 54:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 54:15SPEAKER_00: That's so true.
- 54:16SPEAKER_00: It's that's so that's what it is.
- 54:18SPEAKER_00: Not that it wouldn't stand the test of time or whatever, but if you wanted a laugh out of it, yeah, then it can't be just like ew men.
- 54:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 54:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 54:26SPEAKER_00: That's interesting.
- 54:27SPEAKER_00: I would love, I really hope they make a white chicks too, because I'm sure they planned one at some point.
- 54:32SPEAKER_00: I don't think it ever like happened, but no, but it's like now is the perfect time for that because you know, we've gotten like we're in the Kardashians.
- 54:39SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 54:40SPEAKER_00: Kardashians will be such a like prime target, and then they could go to like an influencer meeting and be undercover as white girls there.
- 54:48SPEAKER_00: It's so much good stuff has happened that they can make fun of.
- 54:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I feel like I'm gonna say, I feel like maybe like four years ago would have been the ideal time.
- 55:01SPEAKER_00: Why?
- 55:02SPEAKER_02: When the Kardashians were kind of like at their very peak.
- 55:05SPEAKER_00: At their peak, yeah, that's true.
- 55:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it wouldn't be as Kardashian relevant as it would be influencer relevant.
- 55:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 55:12SPEAKER_02: Influencer relevance would be like very funny now.
- 55:15SPEAKER_02: But to be honest.
- 55:16SPEAKER_00: I want to see comedies making fun of influencers.
- 55:19SPEAKER_00: We just haven't got that.
- 55:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, now all the influencers are in the comedies, and it's like, uh, why yeah, I know.
- 55:26SPEAKER_00: But I want to see a comedy making fun of that world.
- 55:29SPEAKER_00: That would be fun and relevant.
- 55:32SPEAKER_02: Have you seen the have you seen the trailer for um he's all that?
- 55:37SPEAKER_00: I haven't.
- 55:38SPEAKER_00: It looks kind of dumb, so I haven't.
- 55:41SPEAKER_02: It looks really, really bad, and I'm so angry that they've made it.
- 55:46SPEAKER_00: I don't know why they did that.
- 55:48SPEAKER_02: I I do.
- 55:50SPEAKER_02: Money.
- 55:51SPEAKER_02: Um true.
- 55:54SPEAKER_02: But yeah, so like the what else are we talking about?
- 55:59SPEAKER_02: Oh, there's a dance scene as well.
- 56:00SPEAKER_02: They have a dance off, which is very funny.
- 56:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the dance off is yeah, that's um that's actually like making its way onto TikTok now.
- 56:09SPEAKER_00: I've seen that dance.
- 56:11SPEAKER_00: Not not not people recreating it, but I've seen like I've seen that on TikTok.
- 56:17SPEAKER_00: I forget in what content.
- 56:18SPEAKER_00: It was probably just like memorable movie scenes.
- 56:20SPEAKER_00: But that that one and Terry Cruz singing Thousand Miles is like the two scenes that I remember the most out of that movie.
- 56:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I would say I remember the Terry Cruise scene and then what else do I remember from the channel?
- 56:33SPEAKER_02: I think that is probably the yeah, I think that probably the Terry Cruise scene is the it's the is the most memorable for me.
- 56:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 56:39SPEAKER_02: I don't remember I didn't really remember the dance off scene.
- 56:43SPEAKER_00: It's it's the thousand mile scene for sure.
- 56:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 56:45SPEAKER_02: Um But Yeah, they Oh, there's there is a point where that's very funny.
- 56:53SPEAKER_02: I forgot, when they're having the slumber party and they um they do the um the there's the two guys that go knocking on the door and they like they break they grab them in and they like hijack them, basically, and they're like, what are you doing?
- 57:07SPEAKER_02: Those are the strippers.
- 57:08SPEAKER_00: Those are the strippers, that was yeah that like that's the slumber party, and they start like braiding their hair as well, and like Yeah, yeah, but that yeah, again, that was um that was like one of the more wholesome parts of the movie where Karen is like, I've been trying so hard to get this guy's attention, and the guys basically tell her, like, look, you have to stand up for yourself.
- 57:32SPEAKER_00: And then at the end of the movie, when that guy is like, So do you want to come over at 2 a.m.?
- 57:36SPEAKER_00: She's like, No, I don't think so.
- 57:39SPEAKER_00: And that was like that, I really I love the growth of all of the characters at the end.
- 57:44SPEAKER_00: I loved because everyone's was so unique.
- 57:47SPEAKER_00: Like Marcus realized how hard his wife was working just to please him, and like he should show more appreciation to her.
- 57:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and then um Kevin's character realized that he doesn't have to pretend to be a rich guy to like woo this woman that he's into.
- 58:01SPEAKER_00: Like he can just be himself.
- 58:02SPEAKER_02: We haven't even talked about her, yeah.
- 58:04SPEAKER_00: We haven't, yeah.
- 58:05SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, we haven't even talked about her, but yeah, that was like such a B story.
- 58:08SPEAKER_02: It's a death, it's definitely a B story, but it's interesting, like because like they say it up as like she's only interested in money, but she's obviously not.
- 58:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 58:18SPEAKER_00: They said it, but I think her line was just like, I would love to be wined and dined by a rich guy.
- 58:23SPEAKER_00: And Kevin kind of blew that out of proportion.
- 58:26SPEAKER_02: He took that as like that is the only thing that she wants.
- 58:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly.
- 58:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that is the only thing that she wants, and even at the end, she's just like, Yeah, I like that, but a man who jumped in front of a bullet to save my life is the one that I'm going to choose, no matter what.
- 58:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 58:43SPEAKER_00: Um, who else had really good growth?
- 58:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, all of them.
- 58:49SPEAKER_02: Those are the yeah, those are the ones that really had like really nice, really sweet.
- 58:54SPEAKER_02: I guess the sisters, the real sisters, like, do they have growth?
- 58:58SPEAKER_00: No, they didn't.
- 58:59SPEAKER_00: They were the villains.
- 59:00SPEAKER_00: So once we got rid of them and once they were embarrassed.
- 59:04SPEAKER_02: No, no, the originals, the the actual Wilson sisters.
- 59:07SPEAKER_00: No, they just went back to being themselves, they didn't have any roads.
- 59:13SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, because at the end, the three sisters say the three friends say, We preferred you way more than the real sisters.
- 59:20SPEAKER_00: That was so funny, too.
- 59:22SPEAKER_00: All the friends were like, we would rather hang out with you guys.
- 59:24SPEAKER_00: And then at the final line of the movie is, well, we can always go back shopping.
- 59:31SPEAKER_02: That feels like such a weird cut to me.
- 59:33SPEAKER_00: It was, yeah, it was.
- 59:35SPEAKER_02: It feels like a weird ending.
- 59:38SPEAKER_00: It just I don't know, it kind of wrapped things up nicely.
- 59:40SPEAKER_00: I think that was another thing where you know I can see why people would be like, Oh, you're stereotyping women, but I love shopping.
- 59:48SPEAKER_00: Like, I act like that when I'm about to go shopping.
- 59:51SPEAKER_02: Who cares?
- 59:52SPEAKER_00: Maybe I'm the stereotype and I'm like trying to speak for every woman here.
- 59:56SPEAKER_00: Like, I'm not, I talk like this, and I go shopping, and me and my friends all compare our bodies and whine about it in the mirror.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_00: Everyone does that, and someone's gonna be like, Yeah, they don't.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_02: You're a you're a brown lesbian woman, and yet you're somehow a white, uh straight white chicken.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_00: Somehow I'm a straight white woman, yeah.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_00: And I felt seen by this movie.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_00: But you know, um, I was reading an interview by one of the guys, and they were like, the fact that we're the most proud of is that the biggest fans of white chicks are white chicks.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_02: I can see that.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_02: I can see that, definitely.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_00: Like you have to make fun of a group of people really well that they agree with what you're making fun of.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_00: They're like, yeah, this is all the jokes I felt like were punching up.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_02: Definitely.
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_02: It was all I feel like most for the majority of the movie it's punching up.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_00: Get into the technicality of it.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they were.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_02: Which it has to be if you're gonna do this kind of movie.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_02: I think you have to punch up.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_02: Um I just noticed one thing in the trivia.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_02: It says the family name Vandergeld is Dutch, and you know what it translates to?
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_00: What?
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_02: Of the money.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_00: Vandergeld, yeah, because geld means money, and at least in German.
- 1:01:06SPEAKER_02: Ah.
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_02: You speak German as well.
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_00: I do, yeah.
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_02: Um but there's like oh, and the other the other really interesting thing is this film was shot and intended to be an R-rated comedy.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_00: Mm-hmm.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_00: And But it's not?
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_02: It's a PG 13.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_00: Huh.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_02: And it was cut down to be a PG 13.
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_02: But here's where you here's why you might think it's not.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_02: Because there's an uncut unrated cut uh release on video that restores all the footage.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, I think I've seen the unrated cut.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_02: I've never seen an unrated cut.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_00: I have definitely seen the unrated cut because I don't remember it.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_00: I saw whatever's on Netflix, and I assume that was the normal one.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_00: But I have I remember seeing a cut where there were a lot more like gross scenes.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_00: I remember it being.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_00: Interesting.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_02: What do you remember?
- 1:01:57SPEAKER_00: What do I remember?
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_00: I don't.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_00: See, that's the thing.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_00: I don't remember.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_00: I don't remember this um unrated cut, but I remember seeing an unrated cut.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_00: I wonder what was in that one.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_02: I'll have to look into it, but I don't know.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_00: I think, oh, you know what?
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_00: You know what it was?
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_00: I one thing I remember is the your mom jokes that the side policeman did were way grosser.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_02: Okay, that makes sense.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna go back and like try and find those scenes.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_02: Okay, so for the final bit then, uh, I feel like we've talked about white chicks enough.
- 1:02:29SPEAKER_02: Let's let's move on to the uh the final section.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_00: Never enough.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_02: Never enough.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_02: Um, the final section is do you have a reverse of this?
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_02: Uh, which is uh a movie that's well loved and well reviewed that you think is actually a bad movie.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_00: There are so many.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_00: It's first of all, so easy to hate on movies.
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_00: Especially when everyone else liked it, and you're like, well, I want to stand out.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I wouldn't be a contrarian.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, literally.
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_00: It's so easy to be a contrary.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_02: No, but like one that you literally do think is a bad movie.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_00: There are so many movies that I just don't get.
- 1:03:02unknown: Yeah.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_00: You know, like the story is like way too complicated.
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_00: I would say any movie where I have to Google the ending explained, that is a movie that I don't like.
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_02: Can you remember?
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_02: Do you can you think of one specifically?
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_00: Um, the most recent one was um I'm thinking I'm thinking about ending things.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_02: Oh, right.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_02: I still haven't watched that.
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_00: I didn't get it at all.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_02: A lot of people didn't get it.
- 1:03:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_02: I've heard like all hate things about it.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_00: Here is a controversial one that a lot of people love, but I just go for it.
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, this is what this is what I want, the controversial ones.
- 1:03:37SPEAKER_00: Palm Springs.
- 1:03:39SPEAKER_02: Oh, I loved it.
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_00: I think it has a lot of good moments, but again, I think at the ending I had to Google Ending Explain, which really, really bothers me.
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_00: Like, I want to understand the movie and then move on with my own.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_02: But did you enjoy the movie itself and then hate the ending, or did you just hate the whole movie?
- 1:03:55SPEAKER_00: I it the pair didn't make sense.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_00: Andy Sandberg and Kristen Malodi's character, like their personalities did not match at all.
- 1:04:03SPEAKER_00: Like, what did you guys see in each other?
- 1:04:06SPEAKER_00: They literally only got that way because they were both stuck in a time loop.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_00: That's my thesis on that.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_02: I mean, yeah, then like they got bored and they they have something in common.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_00: It's like, you know, having a crush on someone in the office who is objectively not attractive, but you know, they're office hot, so they'll do.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_00: That's exactly what no one wants a rom-com about office hot.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_02: Maybe they do.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_02: Maybe they do.
- 1:04:33SPEAKER_02: We don't know that.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_00: I don't.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_02: You don't, you don't.
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_02: I don't.
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_00: That's my hot take.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_02: You want an office comedy about no, you want a rom-com about white chicks.
- 1:04:41SPEAKER_00: I want a rom-com about Terry Cruz and Sean Wayans.
- 1:04:45SPEAKER_00: No, Marlon Wayans.
- 1:04:47SPEAKER_00: I keep mixing them up.
- 1:04:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Terry Cruz and Marlon Wayans, starring in a rom com.
- 1:04:51SPEAKER_00: That is my dream movie.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_00: Please.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_02: That would be great.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_00: Do it for the gays, please.
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_02: Okay, thank you so much for doing this.
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_02: It's been great.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_00: Of course.
- 1:05:01SPEAKER_00: This is so cool.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_02: How can we find you online?
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_02: And do you have anything you want to promote?
