Latest / OneLegUpAlex Media / Terminello’s Take Heading Into Knicks Game Six and Forward Thinking On New York Rangers Hockey As they Advance 5-16-24
Transcript
- 0:05Here's your host, Alex Garret. All right, well it's another addition of
- 0:20Terminello's take. And you know, Lou, it's kind of cool. I've
- 0:23been live streaming after games on a new app called Pro Sports Fan, so
- 0:28trying to get the one leg up name out there. And maybe I'll try
- 0:32and live stream some of our stuff on the app as well. But the
- 0:35last two nights have been kind of like a tail of two cities. Right,
- 0:38So the Rangers lose on Monday night, but then the Knicks come to
- 0:42the Garden last night and win. And I don't know, Lou Terminello,
- 0:46when the Knicks win, they're just a different energy in New York. You
- 0:49could just feel it different than when any other New York team wins. If
- 0:52I'm honest, Well, I think Alex always thank you for having me back
- 0:58appreciate it. Uh. I actually think it's because of basketball court. It's
- 1:06only is you know, ninety four feet long, and the fans are close
- 1:10to the action, closer than any other sport. You can see their faces,
- 1:15you can see celebrities faces, and uh, yeah, I kind of
- 1:19agree with you. It's a little bit it's a little bit different than other
- 1:23sports. You know I get gross on the show. Can I just get
- 1:26a little gross because the nets are in the news again. But I'll tell
- 1:30you, as you know, sometimes I digestive issues. And I gotta say
- 1:33I was court sided when AI came to visit Brooklyn, New Jersey. I
- 1:38should say, thanks to the kindness of Lewis Kats. And my mark was
- 1:42that I actually huked on the sideline. Okay, so I implored and I
- 1:47pew BET's allies. I gat, But it was a question I prop obviously,
- 1:53I was in the building that night. I wonder if I read I
- 1:57saw that that situation. If you saw across the way a kid hurling with
- 2:00one leg, that was me. And I'll tell you what. It was
- 2:04still a fun night because you got to see AI and you have Vince Carter
- 2:07and everything. But back in the day, I was a big AI finished.
- 2:10So I'm up close like that in the in the Conninal arena was pretty
- 2:14cool. So I got to say, those quart sides and I do miss
- 2:16it. And by the way, quart side seatings should be for the fans.
- 2:21I know it's all about celebrity row and whatnot, but the fans the
- 2:23ones that make the juice happen that make it come alive. Well, I
- 2:28would agree with that. And before we get into the meat of the Knick's
- 2:31great victory last night and the status of this that series and the range of
- 2:37series and the NBA and NHL in general. When I first joined the Nets
- 2:44back in nineteen eighty one and we sold we had one hundred and seventy court
- 2:50side seats, and the Knicks really didn't have any at that point. We
- 2:53just sold them to fans. They were twenty dollars twenty dollars a pop.
- 3:00And then next year we raised it to twenty two. Then we raised it
- 3:06to thirty five and people were getting upset, and then we raised it to
- 3:08fifty and people really getting upset. Now they're three thousand dollars, five thousand
- 3:12dollars. Who even knows. But I would go to the Garden a lot,
- 3:17obviously, the meadow Lands and the Garden were only seven miles away from
- 3:22each other, with one of my friends who was in the media, and
- 3:25we would call for seats, and my friend knew the assistant PR director for
- 3:32the Knickerbockers, and they didn't sell those seats on the floor. They really
- 3:37didn't have court side seats. The benches were close to the center court,
- 3:40the two team benches at the Garden. I mean, I'm sitting on the
- 3:44court. I could tell you probably five, six, seven times pumped gratits.
- 3:51Those seats were killed. They weren't even in a system. And now
- 3:55the celebrity row at the Garden has become, you know, such a status
- 4:00symbol for for people who go to two games at the Garden. And then
- 4:08obviously it's transferred to other arenas Jack Nicholson seats, you know with the Form
- 4:12and then Staples Center. So yeah, that's the evolution of the U of
- 4:18the court side seats. Yeah, no, when when Lewis Katz gave us
- 4:24that? And guess why I walked by a guest of the show. Actually,
- 4:29Matt Lachlan was doing his pregame stand up at kind of an airlines for
- 4:33Fox Sports, So there's a lot of time in there, so it's all
- 4:36relevant. And I mean, who I meet when I first walked into the
- 4:40elevator going downstairs Byron Scott? So how about that? A lot of stuff
- 4:45in one moment. But no, the court side seats, you know,
- 4:46I know, and now they have a they have sort of a list of
- 4:49who gets to be on celebrity row and whatnot, and I'm like, just
- 4:53give it to the fans, man, give it back to the fans.
- 4:56This is why Eddie was such a great movie, because Eddie was the soul
- 4:59of every New York fan. Will Be Goldberg, I think, portrayed every
- 5:03New York Nick fan. Would you agree? Well, it's funny. I
- 5:06saw I saw the premiere of Eddie at an NBA League meeting in Orlando,
- 5:12Florida, and it was an interesting, cute movie for sure, and it
- 5:15was about the fans. They have burned down. Won't quide praise Journey Jersey.
- 5:23I'll never forget what Marv Albert said that that was great. So yeah,
- 5:29but we'll we'll. We'll maybe get the cheap seats one day if the
- 5:31playoff run continues, because I do want to get there, and I just
- 5:35feel like this podcast belongs there, doesn't it loud just to cover the the
- 5:39atmosphere is so fun, even if you're outside of the garden. One hundred
- 5:43correct, by the way, even the cheap seats are not cheap anymore.
- 5:49Three five. I think I saw it for the range. Yeah, that's
- 5:54unbelievable. Well, when I got to sit behind the bench with my future
- 5:59father in law. I was exciting. I mean to see to stand next
- 6:02to Jonathan Quick, an Hall of Fame goalie. That meant a lot because
- 6:06the guy, as I've said before, won the Cup ten years ago in
- 6:11that very building with the Kings. I mean maybe I think they won at
- 6:14home, but anyway, he went to the Garden, beat the Rangers a
- 6:17couple times and won the Cup. And now he's got a chance, a
- 6:20real chance to help guide the Rangers. But let's go back to last night,
- 6:26because the Knicks, I was more impressed at how everybody stepped up.
- 6:30Alec Burks with about eighteen points, McBride was seventeen. You had Josh part
- 6:35contributing, Yeah, brun Sand forty four. But I'm looking at the guys
- 6:39around him stepping up in the absence of o G. That's where the heart
- 6:43is right now. Well, you gotta give coach Thibideau credit for inserting Miles
- 6:47McBride into the starting lineup. That was a stroke of genius. The Knicks
- 6:54came out on fire. Obviously, I expected to come out more focused after
- 6:59what had happened on Sunday, and uh, basically what Indiana did to the
- 7:05Knicks on Sunday, the Knicks to Indiana last night. You know, the
- 7:11Knicks were just played harder. The Knicks were more tenacious. The Knicks were
- 7:15not going to lose last night, led by their superstar. And again,
- 7:19I know I always repeat this, we were the first ones on this show
- 7:24to crown Jalen Brunson a superstar, a difference maker. He's the best player
- 7:30on the team. He's the best player in the Eastern Conference. He's a
- 7:33difference maker. And uh, there's not more what you could be said about
- 7:39the greatness of Jalen Brunson. Obviously everybody, everybody played well last night.
- 7:46It wasn't a big scoring night for Dante DiVincenzo. But again every game we
- 7:50are seeing how good this kid is. Uh. He can run the floor,
- 7:56he can hit three, he can block shots. Uh, he can
- 7:59read. He has a high basketball like you like. Brunson has a high
- 8:03basketball like you like. Josh Hotka has high basketball like you and all three
- 8:07of those guys. And I guess it's from playing at Villanova. For Jay
- 8:11Wright, they're fearless unlike Indiana. Now we all talked about and Wi,
- 8:18I mean, everybody in the NBA, the media talked about Tyreet's Halliburton,
- 8:24especially in December when the Pacers are on a good run, when he was
- 8:28on a good run and they almost won that meaningless in season tournament, Halliburton
- 8:33was nowhere. Last night, Brunson was everywhere. And if you want to
- 8:39compare two stars, Brunton's a superstar. And I guess people think that Halliburton
- 8:45is approaching that level. Well, Brunson left him in the dust last night.
- 8:52I mean, there is nothing that Brunson can't do, and at six
- 8:56foot one, his effectiveness is remarkable. Well, I love the little over
- 9:05the back kind of you know, layup that he had in the fourth quarter.
- 9:09That was fun. And he has a way to score with finesse too.
- 9:13Not just scoring, but he does it in artful ways. If you
- 9:16remember in the Sixers series he leaned in and just threw it up there and
- 9:20went in. That was a great shot and a great photograph to take two
- 9:22of him leaning in like that. Well, he is a shot maker,
- 9:26which I did not think he was when when he got here. He's he
- 9:31makes everybody better. I don't like I said, we're not going to be
- 9:35the dead horse, but He's better than anybody could have ever hoped for,
- 9:39and he is a legitimate NBA superstar. Case closed. And if the Knicks
- 9:45closed out the series, and if Boston closed out this series, while it's
- 9:50Boston should win the next series, it will be no cakewalk. And I'm
- 9:54going to tell you one thing. The Celtics play scared sometimes, and the
- 10:01Knicks don't play scared. They might get beat, but they don't play scared.
- 10:05So that's gonna be That's not going to be a Celtics cakewalk. If
- 10:09the Celtics win, it's going to be a six or seven game series.
- 10:13And if they look and all the pressure in the next series Alex is on
- 10:16the Celtics, not on the Knicks, not on the Paces. If they
- 10:20win these next two games, all the pressures on the Celtics. Now,
- 10:24do I think the Knicks will close out the Pacers in one of these next
- 10:28two games? Yes, it might be a series like the Cleveland Orlando Magic
- 10:33series where each team went to seven, but each team won at home.
- 10:37I hate those kinds of series, but it is what it is, so
- 10:41we'll see. Let me say this, I've been playing the scenario in my
- 10:45head for the Knicks. I just want to see them win one of two
- 10:50if they advance. Should they advance, I think if they will, but
- 10:52hibetically here they face the Celtics. You want to win one at each one,
- 10:58one at home ideally too, but that's asking a lot against the Celtics.
- 11:03One each one at hole in one on the road, and the rest
- 11:05is fair play. As far as I'm concerned, games five through seven,
- 11:09what don't you say? I would say so, I would say five to
- 11:13seven is who's the healthier team, who's the more courageous team? Really,
- 11:20when it gets that far, it's a bounce of a basketball, it's,
- 11:24you know, a hot shooter. Who's the more effective team from the three
- 11:30point line? That means so much. You know any situations, Have you
- 11:37felt the momentum slip away from the Knicks at all? Or did you know
- 11:41they pretty much still had that edge even going back to New York tie too.
- 11:46I felt like they lost a little momentum, especially after third Friday nights
- 11:50lost, but they've regained it back. I think Cohen into Indie for games.
- 11:54I actually thought that they were going to be in a little more troubled
- 11:58last night, but they quickly after the first five minutes when they were down
- 12:01sixteen to seven, sixteen to nine, they put that the rest and they
- 12:05dominated the rest of the way eleven oh run, which is something we haven't
- 12:09seen really in a couple of games from them. So that was good to
- 12:13see that they were on an eleven oh streak which helped put them put them
- 12:18up even more. You know, I gotta say the parallels here are very
- 12:20eerie, very interesting at Eyeri. At the same time, I mean,
- 12:24these two teams now going to a game six, Rangers and Knicks, It's
- 12:28almost like they have a symmetrical playoff run going on here, wouldn't you say?
- 12:33It? Sure seems that way. I did not think the Rangers were
- 12:37going to lose at home on on Monday night. That did surprise me.
- 12:41I figured they would that they would win. This is the first game of
- 12:46the five where one team was superior by a good margin then the other.
- 12:52All the other games were one goal games, and obviously a Ranger's specialty teams
- 12:58helped them win those games, while Caroline especialty teams were just nowhere. But
- 13:03the last two periods, the last two periods and a half, the Rangers
- 13:07were a lot of their guys were invisible. I don't expect that tomorrow night,
- 13:13and it could go seven, but I expect a much better effort from
- 13:18the Rangers. And as I was watching the game on Monday night, you
- 13:22know, Frederick Anderson was shaky. The Ranges just didn't pepper him enough,
- 13:28or get into his face enough, get into the paint. He was flopping
- 13:31all over the place. So I mean, he's got to come through with
- 13:37two more big games for them, and he really didn't have a big game
- 13:41the other night because the Rangers didn't test them. So I think about the
- 13:46four goal dump, you know, dumping that eventually turned out to be in
- 13:50that third period with the three goal, you know, with the goals scored
- 13:54there. But I think, like the Knicks, they were a little tired.
- 13:56They have had a rough road trip in the sense of the Saturday night
- 14:03and then you come home and maybe a couple of days off fresh legs.
- 14:05But it's gonna come down to coaching, and Laviolett now has to show he's
- 14:09different than Galotte, meaning he can't let a collapse happen. He won't let
- 14:13it happen. But I think there's a bit of a pressure on him to
- 14:16show he's not gallant and he's not gonna let them collapse like that against the
- 14:18Devils last year. Well, there's a funny scenario that Peter la Volette nos
- 14:30in twenty ten when the Flyers got to the Stanley Cup Finals in the lowist
- 14:35of the Blackhawks, they were down to the Boston Bruins three games to none,
- 14:43and the Flyers came back to win that series at Boston, and they
- 14:46were down in Game seven, three to nothing. So Laviolette knows, and
- 14:54he can go into that locker room and he can talk firsthand how this could
- 14:58happen. How the Caroline the Hurricane. I don't think they will, How
- 15:01the Hurricanes can come back from three to zero. It's only happened five times
- 15:07in major sports in North America with the three leagues that played for out of
- 15:11seven. One time in Major League Baseball when Boston came from me Hind from
- 15:16three nothing to beat the Yankees and four, and then the other four times
- 15:20in the NHL, once in Stanley Cup Finals beat Toronto coming back from Detroit.
- 15:26The Islanders did it to Pittsburgh, as I just said, the Flyers,
- 15:31I did it to the Bruins. And in twenty fourteen, the Jonathan
- 15:37Quick year that you were talking about when they won their second Stanley Cup in
- 15:39three years. They were down three to zero to the San Jose Sharks and
- 15:43they came back to win it and eventually won the Stanley Cup again. So
- 15:50and you know what, he was a great player, but dangerardi that giveaway
- 15:54in their own zone, leaving Lungfist very vulnerable. I'll never forget that because
- 15:58that giveaway cost them the series. I know it was only Game one,
- 16:02but that momentum shifted right then and there when that goal was scored. But
- 16:06that's then. This is ten years later, and they have a very different,
- 16:10differently built team. Two. I would say that ten years ago,
- 16:14well, this is the deepest team the Rangers have at that had I would
- 16:18say since that since that time, maybe the deepest team since, you know,
- 16:23since ninety four. But you know, I think I still think the
- 16:30Ranger are in good shape all right, well across the rest of the playoffs.
- 16:34So, you know, everybody's talking about the Nuggets and the and the
- 16:38Wolves, but it seems like that series is kind of equaled itself out,
- 16:41meaning you know, the Nuggets are back in control of it, aren't they
- 16:45yes they are. They are back in control. Now I can those seven
- 16:52the first four games won by the Row team. Last night, Denver behind
- 16:56an old world performance. But call it Jokic, who's just an amazing player.
- 17:03They won fairly easily. Tomorrow night, Minnesota can win at home.
- 17:08Minnesota is young and but Denver looks like they have righted the ship. So
- 17:15it'll be interesting to see what happens in Minneapolis tomorrow night or was it tomorrow
- 17:19night or Friday night? But in you know, in game six, Denver's
- 17:26tough to be their champs for a reason, and they got the best player
- 17:30in the league. And then and then you got the thunder who's the number
- 17:36one. You know, when they come on after the Knicks or even the
- 17:40Celtics, I feel like the areas out of the room, if you will.
- 17:42So it's tough to focus on those. I don't know if you're having
- 17:45trouble focus on them. But it's like, all right, we put a
- 17:48lot of energy into the next Now just turn off the TV for the rest
- 17:49of the night, right, Well, I mean a lot of people do
- 17:52that. I mean I try to watch and follow even teams that are not
- 18:00teams. I root for I think okay See and I think they have a
- 18:03better lineup than Dallas. Yes, Dallas has Kyrie Irving and they have Luka
- 18:10Dantich, but I think Oklahoma City has a deeper team and Shay Gillis Alexander
- 18:18had a spectacular game the other night as they came from behind to tie it
- 18:21up at Tutu when it really looked like most of the game Dallas was going
- 18:26to take a three to one lead. I still favor OKAC the rest of
- 18:30the way. And they're an up and coming team. Many people don't know
- 18:36how good they are, but they are an up and coming team. And
- 18:41Shake Guillless Alexander is a superstar in his own right. We just obviously know
- 18:47about him, but people don't know about him that much because he plays in
- 18:49Oklahoma City. But he's a fantastic player. Well, it's a lot of
- 18:57moving pieces in both conferences. And I will tell you on the NHL side,
- 19:03we talk about this off air the West. On the NHL side seems
- 19:06a little dysfunctional, does it? Like one night is one team other Knights
- 19:10that you know the other team ties up being that the Stars in the absence,
- 19:14you got the Canucks and the Whalers. I feel like makes your head's
- 19:17been just trying to follow the Western Conference right. Well, it looks like
- 19:23Dallas has overcome their to nothing deficit where they lost their first two games at
- 19:30home in the first round to Las Vegas. They ended up winning that series.
- 19:36They took over that series after they lost their first two games at home,
- 19:38and it seems like they're that they're they're cooking. And I thought Colorado
- 19:45and Dallas was going to be a knockdown, drag out series. It's not
- 19:48so far. It still could be. You look at the lineups Dallas as
- 19:52a very deep team. Dallas probably has the best goaltender in the Western Conference
- 19:57of the playoff teams that are left and Notinger, but not but Otinger or
- 20:03any goaltender in the Western Conference, teams can match can match either Boston's Jeremy
- 20:11Swayman or Sergey Brabowski of the Florida Panthers or Igorsha Sterkin, and that I
- 20:18think gives the Eastern winner and I think the Eastern Conference winner, I would
- 20:26have to say it would be the favorite in a in a playoff series.
- 20:30We talked about it at the end of last season. If you if you
- 20:33want to go back and on one of the podcasts that we did to close
- 20:36out the hockey season, beware the Dallas, the Dallas Stars, and they're
- 20:42deep. They have a lot of prospects. This Wyatt Johnson, who's just
- 20:47twenty years old, has been a revelation for them. They brought him upwards
- 20:52the end of last year and he's he's going to be a superstar. Remember
- 20:56that name, Dallas. Dallas could win and they're well coached, and you
- 21:03know, we'll see what happens. I like whoever comes out of the East.
- 21:07I like to win the Cup. But we'll see, we'll see.
- 21:11I mean, Swayman hasn't given up a bad goal. Bbowski hasn't given up
- 21:15a bad goal. Shasterkin hasn't given up a bad goal. Is in all
- 21:18these playoffs and that one saves, that one savement or makes a difference.
- 21:26So, Uh, Colorado's gotten a terrible starts against Dallas. I don't think
- 21:30they've scored in the first period. I think Dallas has scored like six or
- 21:33seven goals. Uh, you know so, And Dallas has a deep team,
- 21:38but Colorado probably has the two best players on the ICID in Nathan McKinnon
- 21:42and and Cale mccarr. But they'll be fighting for their life. So it's
- 21:52it's sometimes it's it's it's hard to figure out why teams really really perform anywhere
- 22:00near where you think they would. Some of these games, especially in the
- 22:04in the NBA, some of these games are routes. So so we'll see,
- 22:10Yeah, it takes a lot. Now, obviously we haven't really talked
- 22:15baseball, but that's on the back burner right now because in addition to all
- 22:18the playoffs, if I didn't ask you this question and be dumb journalism,
- 22:23Vince Carter naming the number in the rafters next year, what can you tell
- 22:29me? Maybe we'll have Jimmy on Jimmy Lambrello on for a further conversation about
- 22:32the impact Vince Carter had on that Nets organization while the two of you were
- 22:37basically running the place. Well, you gotta remember that he is with Vince
- 22:42Carter, and congratulations to Vince Carter forgetting his number retired and really one of
- 22:49the nicest players that I had an opportunity to meet in two thousand and four.
- 22:56At the end of the two thousand and three two thousand and four season
- 22:59one we lost Game seven in the Eastern Conference Semifinals to the Pistons. Kenyan
- 23:06Martin was a free agent and we lost him to free agency. We offered
- 23:11him a good deal. We offered him sixty six million dollars for six years,
- 23:18and the Denver Nuggets gave him a MAX deal, so he went.
- 23:22He went to Denver. Jason Kidd had hurt himself early in the season,
- 23:26but played the whole season with a cracked and damaged knee, and after the
- 23:33we lost to Detroit in the seventh game, he has he had his knee
- 23:37operator on and his knee operated in. The operation was extensive that he missed
- 23:42the first twenty games of the next season, where we got off to a
- 23:45terrible start. I mean, we had no kid, We had no Kenyan
- 23:49Martin. And then when he did come back, he was on a minute's
- 23:56limit. So there was a couple of games. I remember there was one
- 23:59game in particular against the Knicks. One we were way ahead and he hit
- 24:02his minute limit, which was between twenty and twenty four, and we blew
- 24:07the game to the Knicks. And I was not happy, I remember,
- 24:11and I was somebody from our organization said, just walked by me. They
- 24:15saw how how I wasn't wasn't the thrilled of what was going on, and
- 24:21he said, you'll be happy later in the week. I had no idea
- 24:22what he was talking about because the deal was kept so under wraps. And
- 24:29then on that Friday in the afternoon was announced that we got Vince Carter,
- 24:33and really for we didn't give up anything. Really the Alonzo Morning, a
- 24:38couple of dead contracts of some other players, and Vince Carter saved the season.
- 24:45We made the playoffs. We did lose in the first round to the
- 24:47eventual champion, Miami He but Vince Carter became the third leading score in Net's
- 24:53history. He probably after draws and Petrovitch was the second best jump shooter in
- 25:03that's history. And he is easily if you want to take Doctor J out
- 25:07of the equation and just put doctor J in the nets ABA history. Vince
- 25:14Carter is the best dunker in nets history. And there's a famous dunk where
- 25:21he dunked over Alonzo Morning, if you want to go on YouTube and and
- 25:25look that up. He scored fifty two points he in a game, which
- 25:30was a next record for a while. And like I said, he really
- 25:34stabilized the franchise for a couple more years and we were able to make some
- 25:40playoff runs. Great player, and like I said, he was a very
- 25:44good guy and very in the community. If I'm not mistaken. He was
- 25:48always out there with live box back in the day, right school visits and
- 25:56that was a cool era because the YES Network had just picked them up around
- 26:00that same time. And boy, Yes and Yankee Nets happened at the perfect
- 26:03time because the Yanks had just come off those championships. The Nets were heating
- 26:10up and it was almost every night you got a nice little doubleheader going on,
- 26:12whether it be the Nets burst the Yankees first, right, I remembered
- 26:15all that now. It was, I mean we our second time. The
- 26:21second Eastern Conference Championship was our first year on YES, the first year we
- 26:26went to the finals, and when the Eastern Conference Championship, it was our
- 26:27last year on MSG. So yeah, that was that was a fun time.
- 26:33And again Vince Carter saved us, he said he really did. When
- 26:38we got in there was such a void after Kenyon left UH and kid coming
- 26:45back from the knee surgery. He really saved the season. And excellent player
- 26:49just played hard, you know, gave you no trouble. I mean,
- 26:53really really nice guy. And by the way Iron Eagle is calling I believe
- 27:00he's still calling me the Nick games right now when it's on TNT. I've
- 27:03heard him a few times, so you know, the Iron Eagle effect continues.
- 27:10Yeah, I know. I guess Brian Anderson did the game the other
- 27:11night. I don't know who's doing the game. Who's I don't know who's
- 27:15doing the game tomorrow night. But Iron Eagle is obviously Kram Dela Cram.
- 27:19He's as good as as they come. You want him doing. He should
- 27:22do all the games well, and I know that people listening to this or
- 27:29are you know I certainly wrote with the jim Spinarkle Iron Eagle Connection team team
- 27:33on yes back in the early two thousand, remember that whole thing, and
- 27:37they still go on. I think they're still doing that together. Well they
- 27:41still do. They still do college basketball together. Jimmy Spinarkyle an excellent basketball
- 27:48analyst and underrated, very underrated, and he still does obviously tournament games for
- 27:55CBS and college basketball regular season games for TV for CBS and some other networks.
- 28:02Excellent broadcaster and a good person without a doubt, well you are too,
- 28:07Louis, and it's it's awesome. We get to talk with all these
- 28:10people, and to have cross paths with them is even more cool. You
- 28:12get talk with them, and having cross paths with them, you get to
- 28:15know them a little more. I mean, I I think he told you
- 28:18the story. I saw him at the US Open and I said, do
- 28:22you ever sleep? He's like, what sleep? So that's the kind of
- 28:25you know, down to earth guy he is. And I love every time
- 28:27I got to see him around the part of these parts. Well, that's
- 28:30what he is. He is a regular guy. He's down to earth.
- 28:33He remembers everybody's name. He's a brilliant broadcaster. He's funny, he's accurate,
- 28:41and I'm so glad he's had a successful career. And the Nets are
- 28:45very lucky to have him. I and Chris Carino there, they're TV Iron
- 28:52Radio Chris Carino, they are the Nets. They are the Nets. Whether
- 28:56it was in New Jersey and now in Brooklyn, those two brought cast as
- 29:00they are the Nets. One. While I have you and when we're talking
- 29:06a little sports, can't let this conversation go by without mentioning the other party,
- 29:11Yes, which is the Yankees classics, and I'm sure yesterday when they
- 29:15had a moment they aired Doc Goodan's no hitter. The anniversary was yesterday,
- 29:19nineteen ninety six. And uh, you know, I mentioned that because everything's
- 29:23going on in the sports scene, but the historical part of all these things
- 29:26are being buried amidst the fast paced action. So that's why I bring it
- 29:30up, because I don't want it to be buried. Right, a history,
- 29:34whether it's sports, no matter what type of history, they shouldn't be
- 29:38buried. And that I agree with you one. You're one hundred percent right.
- 29:47And I guess because he's gotten retired by the Mets, I still feel
- 29:49like people should acknowledge the Yankee accomplishments. Yeah, just like a balanced thing
- 29:55for me, I guess so well, his Yankee accompliments were very few,
- 29:59I mean, besides that noe. I mean, they didn't even put him
- 30:00on the playoff froster that year. Strawberry had more accomplishments as a Yankee,
- 30:08that's for sure. And but when Doc got to the Yankees, he basically
- 30:15was running on fumes. Strawberry was not. Strawberry actually hit a home run
- 30:19at Shay as a Yankee. They keep playing that clip over and over when
- 30:23the renovations and that were actually really a beam had fell, and I remember
- 30:29that and they had to move the Yanks over to Shay and my dad and
- 30:32I were at that game shocked that shot. That shocked me, and I
- 30:38think it kind of it kind of turned George Simmer's stomach that they'd be home
- 30:42at Jay Stadium because he never really liked to play at Shae, you know
- 30:45what I mean, Like he we always got to him. Who who didn't
- 30:52want to play it Shane, I mean George Steinburn. I'm sure it took
- 30:56a lot for him to try and move everything in to Shae because I know
- 30:59that he's not a big fan of the Mets, you know, So it's
- 31:03what can you do? That's life interesting trivia, Well my favorites. Also,
- 31:07while we're on this is there were a couple of times where the Yanks
- 31:08were having the day game and the Mets have the night game in the Subway
- 31:11series, and we go to both Louis. That's kind of how we were
- 31:15back. Yeah, I only went I only went to the day game.
- 31:17I didn't go to the night one. I go on on about the playoffs
- 31:22because we had that moment where the Mets run of the day, we were
- 31:26at Yankee say him at night because they played the same day and we were
- 31:29falling asleep during the A's route of the Yanks one of those playoffs games.
- 31:33So a lot of back and forth between Shane Yankee as you know, yep.
- 31:37And the other thing that's a big day today is the NFL schedule release,
- 31:41so before you know it, we'll know who the Jets and Johns will
- 31:45be playing. Thank God, thank God that that Giant game is not a
- 31:49home game in Germany, because that would not be right to play one hundredth
- 31:53year, one hundred season and you have a home game not at home.
- 31:57I'm glad that didn't work out that way. Yeah, I think I think
- 32:00it's a Giant road game, but you know, Jets are opening up at
- 32:05San Francisco, the Giants are opening up at home the Jets on the Monday
- 32:09night, and the Giants wroping up at home against the Vikings the day before.
- 32:15And the Giants will be for the second time in three years on Thanksgiving
- 32:17Day against Dallas, which I was surprised, especially since Dallas has just barbecued
- 32:24the Giants over the last half decade. And the Jets will be playing October
- 32:31sixth in London against the Vikings, and I think the Jets home opener is
- 32:38against the Patriots on a Thursday night. So it's all about the bad part
- 32:44about the NFL schedule. It's all about television. It's not about the fans.
- 32:47It's not about it's all about TV. It's not about any convenience for
- 32:53the fans. It really isn't. So I don't know what's that, Louis.
- 33:00I feel, yeah, you're right, you're right, But there you
- 33:05go. That's that's where we're facing right now in in New York sports.
- 33:10And of course when you say roasting and I'm just in my head thinking is
- 33:15a getting any better this year? I mean, now you don't even have
- 33:17Sakwan, You're you're pretty much I'm not sure what's gonna happen at running back
- 33:23right now. And that's not easy waters to charter, right if you're a
- 33:28football team. Well again, running back by committee isn't the worst thing in
- 33:32the world. So we got to see what the Giants are going to do
- 33:36there they I mean, obviously their offensive line needs to gel, just like
- 33:42the Jets offensive line I mean, you look at the two biggest question marks
- 33:45on each team. I don't care who they have around them. If their
- 33:49offensive line doesn't gel, neither team are going to be successful. Now.
- 33:53The Jets have a better roster significantly at this point than the Giants do.
- 33:59If Aaron Rodgers stays healthy, the Jets, I think, and obviously the
- 34:05Rosses aren't set yet. I think the Jets are the best team in the
- 34:07AFC East, along with Miami. I think Buffalo's taking a step back,
- 34:13but uh, they're not. They're not going into rebuilding mode, not when
- 34:17you have a player like Josh Allen as your quarterback. So so we'll see
- 34:22it should be in and and again, anything can happen in football, and
- 34:24of course more that's so than any of the sport. You gotta stay healthy,
- 34:31exactly, and that was why they didn't want to put a price tag
- 34:35on because his health was not. By the way, I see Week eleven,
- 34:39Chiefs and Bills, you know, or Bills are Chiefs. But the
- 34:43point is, Josh Allen can have all the success in the world during the
- 34:46regular season, but I still have yet to see him beat the Chiefs in
- 34:51the postseason. That's all I'm gonna say, is we can hype up the
- 34:53regular season one, but I want to see him, all right, I'm
- 34:55gonna I'm gonna get young Alex. I'm gonna challenge on that. Two years
- 35:00ago he put up thirty four points that Kansas City in the frigid weather.
- 35:05Uh, the reason that they lost wasn't because of Josh Allen. And last
- 35:09year Josh Allen had him beat again. Maybe if he got a little help
- 35:14from Stefan Diggs and he made that catch, they would have won that,
- 35:20they would have won that game. And so I might challenge I might challenge
- 35:24you on that. So it's but again, yes, the quarterback always gets
- 35:29to blame, always gets always gets the uh the credit. So so we'll
- 35:35see. Yeah, and believe me, nobody knows it's more than Josh Allen.
- 35:38Believe me, he knows. I believe you. It's not. It's
- 35:42not your valin. It's just the Bills on the whole have seemed to be
- 35:45cursed against the Chiefs. I mean, it's like it's like the Yanks trying
- 35:49to beat the the Ass in the playoffs. And I think I think if
- 35:53both of those happened in our lifetime, Mountains will move. Okay, that's
- 35:59out right now. The Astros have a long way to go to get back
- 36:04to five hundred. I don't think they're dead, because remember, you just
- 36:07got to finish six and there's still five months to go. We're only at
- 36:12the at the quarter pole of the playoffs of the baseball season. So the
- 36:19Astros still are in the playoff hunt. But you know, you see Bregman
- 36:23batting one eighty five. And that's the other thing, Alex, What are
- 36:25all these major league hiters Batton so far under their lifetime batting average. You
- 36:30can go team to team Matt Olson batting one ninety five. I mean,
- 36:35obviously, one of the reasons why the Mets are under five hundred is because
- 36:39McNeil and Lindor and Alonso and Nemo they're all under two twenty five. Yesmo
- 36:49has a high end base percentage, but he's still under two twenty five.
- 36:52Baby, Yeah, all right, it's only a second year, it's been
- 36:54two forty. But and you go through a Rosa rain the batting one.
- 37:00Yeah, Paul Golschmidt didn't get a didn't get I didn't get a double until
- 37:06the third week of the season. What's going on. Well, maybe pitchers
- 37:09have found out. I mean, look, Aaron Judge was struggling. He's
- 37:13up to two thirty six now. He was under the Mendoza line at one
- 37:15point. And I mean, I look at all these teams and guess who
- 37:21has the best percentage? By far? Are the Dodgers. They have about
- 37:25four or five guys in the three hundred range, you know, Mookie Betsleing
- 37:29the way, Otani. But that's a funny team because once they hit the
- 37:32playoffs, another one that seems to that's all. That's all that matters,
- 37:37That's right. It's all about the play for the Dodgers. But those first
- 37:39four guys bets, Otani, Freeman and Will Smith, they're all crushing the
- 37:47baseball. But that's really the only team. And then of course they are
- 37:52doing okay. They're there. They've got one of the most wins in the
- 37:57league right now. But you know they have some good pitching too, I
- 38:00think, so it's it's not all opened for these teams. By the way,
- 38:05I do like when the Yanks win a two nothing game, because that
- 38:07proves they can win the close ones. If they're blown out at him every
- 38:10night and don't win the close ones that tells you something, right, Oh,
- 38:15I think so, and I mean like, I like, I like,
- 38:16I told you. I think here the Yankees, what were they twenty
- 38:20seven and twelve, twenty eight and thirteen or whatever? That what their record
- 38:22is. I think the best is yet to come for the Yankees. I
- 38:25really do. As Frank Sinatra says, You're probably right on that one,
- 38:31Louis. So it's uh, it's gonna be fun, and I know you
- 38:37are going to keep an eye on it for us. On Terminolo's take,
- 38:40as we go through another couple of games, another anxiety you know, filled
- 38:45a couple of games, sixes here down the stretch tomorrow and Friday. But
- 38:51I do love the back to back vibe of it. I love the Rangers
- 38:54one night the next one. It gives us hope every night, does it?
- 38:59Sure? Oh? Absolutely? First of all, it gives that.
- 39:01I mean, it raises the interest where you could focus on one on one
- 39:07team one game. It's not like they're both playing at the same time on
- 39:12the same night. So yeah, it absolutely does. And the Knick fans
- 39:17follow the Rangers. People think they're just Ranger fans follow the Knicks. That's
- 39:21what I've been learning this whole post season, like people are transversible over here.
- 39:24Well, I know a lot of fans who are Knicks fans and are
- 39:28not Ranger fans. And I know a lot of Ranger fans who are not
- 39:31Knicks fans more than you would think, And that that always is a little
- 39:38bit of an eye opener, I know, And I always wonder what the
- 39:44cultural difference is that the Ranger fans aren't out there jumping around on the plaza
- 39:49after a win, but they're the Knicks are. It's just a different vibe
- 39:52every night. So it's yeah, mhm. And you know, hockey fans
- 39:57are considered more rabbit than NBA fans, and but you're right, it's just
- 40:05I guess you'd say the rain the hockey feel is a lot more corporate than
- 40:08the basketball field. I guess I would say it that way. So there's
- 40:13that too. I I don't I really don't. I don't know. I
- 40:15mean, I'm sure a lot of corporate dollars going into buying NBA tickets,
- 40:21that's for sure. But yeah, it's just a it's just a different energy
- 40:27when the Knicks win. That's that's all I have been noticing. That's where
- 40:30we started the conversation, Louis is that energy of the city. No matter
- 40:32who's winning, they come alive. And that's after four years of freaking pandemic
- 40:37talk. Thankfully, something else is hit the that the news waves, if
- 40:42you will, absolutely I'm sick of the pandemic. All right, that's been
- 40:47Terminalo's take. Once again, our long conversation because we haven't been chatting for
- 40:52a while, so why not catch up. But I'm glad to always catch
- 40:54up with my pleasure, Alex, thank you as always for having me two
