  [rock music] Hello,
• 0:22
cycling fans and Full Spectrum Cycling listeners. Oh, hello. This is Full Spectrum Cycling Show number 330. Yeah, the only thing I could find was- Facts... that's gonna be the e- end of the month, 3/30.
• 0:38
[laughs] Oh, yeah, 30 days has- Yeah. Yeah. It's an area code somewhere in, like, north- No, it's-... northeast, northeast Ohio or something. I don't know. Once again, you're conflating March and April. Yeah. 3/30?
• 0:50
No, no, 3/31. 4- 4/3/31? Yeah, 4/30. 30 days has September, April, June, and November. There's thir- All the rest have 31. February stands alone. Yeah, but, okay, it's got 31, but it also has 30. Oh.
• 1:05
[laughs] I'm not wrong here. I can't wait for show 333. It's not, it's, it's not the end. No, okay. Yeah, I, yeah, I'm getting my verbal work- Okay, okay... work judo skills out. All right. Woo, da, la, la, la.
• 1:16
Johnny Justifier. Right? Yeah. I won't be here. I won't be around in town at 3:30 this month. [laughs] This year. I don't know. [laughs] As we record this, it's, uh, Mario Day. Da, da, da, da-da, da.
• 1:31
Ba, ba, ba, ba, da, da-da, da-da, da-da, da-da, da-da, da-da, da. Which, uh, wh- which clever person figured that out, I wonder? I don't know. It is March 10th, and it is also my mother's birthday.
• 1:42
Happy birthday- Happy birthday... Greg's mom. I did ask her at 91 if she knew who Mario was. She said, "Isn't he a character in a video game?" I'm like, "Yes, he is." There you go. What's your mom's first name? Mary.
• 1:52
Mary. Mario. Mm. Oh. Oh. Nice. Good call. You've got naming rights. [laughs] You should do a superimposed her face over a Mario in a game. [laughs] You know what? And then present it to her as Mario.
• 2:07
Yeah, and it's not a bad idea. I got the Photoshop. You do. You got... And you have the skills, too. Do you know who has mad Photoshop skills, though? It's Mike Lodowski. Mike Lodowski. Mike- [laughs] Mike Lodowski.
• 2:19
I know. Of Berta & Mike. Every time I hear that, though, it's the first thing that pops in my head, is Mike Lodowski. [laughs] Wh- whose that? That's from, um, uh, uh, Monsters Inc. Oh. That's his little sidekick's name.
• 2:32
Yeah. The, the big monster. Mike something. Mike Lodowski. Hm. All right then, so, uh, we're, we're through that part. It's, it's...
• 2:44
W- when we're not doing a weekly, it's just like n- not on the- We gotta catch, you know. I know. We gotta, we gotta catch fire here pretty quick. Uh, yeah, I have to remind... I had notes.
• 2:52
I'm gonna catch fire with a little piece of- [laughs] I thought I had a note... land shaker. S- la... I, I thought for sure that the last time- Can't remember, but let's see if you can hear it... this guy- Aha.
• 3:00
[land shaker shakes] Um, yep, that's very crunchy. [land shaker shakes] Which comes from the farmer's market next door, that it didn't say lamb landjaeger, it said lambdraeger. Mm. Which I sorta think makes more sense.
• 3:15
I've since tossed the bag, so I cannot confirm or deny that. It says right on there, lamb- Well, this one does, but who knows- Oh, yeah... if maybe there's a misprint. Yeah, could've been, or I was mis-seeing.
• 3:24
Which is delicious. Don't talk to me. Ask him questions for the next few minutes. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, 'cause you're gonna be all [eating]. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
• 3:30
But last month, we left here, and there was the SS web show, the, um... Yeah, it was good. It was like, uh, the outlaw kind of d- Was that Uptowner? Yeah. Yeah, that's what I thought. You guys went to Uptowner after.
• 3:48
Sounds like I don't remember a month ago. [laughs] It was good. It was good. It was like a, like, godda- ugh, goddamn gallows variety. Yeah, yeah. Okay. I kinda remember that.
• 3:59
I usually go through my photos because- It was a whole month ago... I usually take pictures. I know. That's what I did. And then I'm like, oh, yeah. And I, I wrote it down on a little Post-it Note. Yeah.
• 4:07
Yeah, I take photos just so I can remember. Exactly. Have you guys seen the thing that clips to the back of your phone and takes notes all day long for you, like Plaud or- Like, like AI notes? I...
• 4:18
just it's a thing that, like- See... records them and stuff. No. When my memory goes, I might need one of those. We had a beach ride. When my memory goes, I definitely- Oh... don't want one of those. Right.
• 4:28
[laughs] We did do a beach ride. That's true. Mm-hmm. It's been a, so it's been a crazy month of weather and- Yeah, that was one of the, the- Yeah... I think that was fake spring 2.0. Yeah, that was a good one.
• 4:39
I mean- That was a... Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Well- I had shorts on, for God's sakes. Yes. It was- I was forward-thinking 'cause I kept going outside- It was-... and just shedding another layer. I'm like, "You know what?"
• 4:51
And we s- it still- "We're doing shorts maybe." We still ran out of light at, like, 4:30. Uh-huh. And now that's not happening anymore. Mm-mm. Now we're running out of light at, like, 7:00 or it's pretty close. Yeah.
• 5:00
I know. You had to get through fricking... February is just so painful. What- So painful. Ugh. Well, Mar- March would normally be semi-painful too, 'cause today is t- No, 'cause-... today is normal...
• 5:11
it can't be, because January and February just suck ass so badly. It's just March is like just kind of a- Sometimes March can suck too, though. Yeah. Yeah. Hit, hit and miss.
• 5:17
Hit and miss, but you're gonna get the, get- Yeah, we're not to the point where the, uh, whatever UVAs can get through the atmosphere at the proper angle to give you your vitamin D.
• 5:26
I tried doing the supplement vitamin D. Oh. I don't think it really works as well as getting- I, I totally agree with that... real vitamin D. Have you ever looked at Emergencies? Chuck Norris is their spokesperson. Oh.
• 5:36
[laughs] If it's good enough for Chuck, good enough for me. It basically is, like, heavy doses of vitamins that your body can easily discharge without eating. For example, their, they call it Emergency Or- Super Orange.
• 5:52
It is 1,999% of your necessary vitamin C for the day. Oh, yeah. Okay So basically you piss, like, bright yellow. Yeah, it's, I do- Mm-hmm... I do some supplements. I did- Yeah...
• 6:06
I, I w- read up or listened up on some vitamin D stuff and- Yeah... but you gotta have K with that, otherwise you're just pissing it straight out. Yeah. I learned that this week. Yeah. You, if you have D- Vitamin-...
• 6:18
if you do a D, you need K... vitamin, vitamin ketamine? That's what I was thinking when you said K, but- [laughs]
• 6:23
I, you know- No, no, no, it's, it's, it's- My, my neurologist with my dystonia and everything, I'm just like, "What do you recommend I take as a supplement?" And he said, "Generally speaking, humans don't need one."
• 6:35
So I use a topical 'cause, uh, let's digress.
• 6:38
Mag- magnesium absorbs through your skin better than it does your blood, so they recommend for things like dystonia or other neurological disorders that you use, you know, salves, lotions, CBD rubs.
• 6:51
Um, which I will say since switching to those versus a pill, uh, first of all, pill is a fucking horse pill. [laughs] So swallowing it sucked. Uh-huh.
• 6:59
And putting it on, you know, lotion, it's been ni- As a matter of fact, um, the- Oh... couple that stays with us for the Riverwest 24, Allison and, I can't remember his name right now, Rob, um, maybe. Um- Maybe...
• 7:11
Allison's the one that told me. She's in the medical field, and she's like, "Oh, no, you need lotions." And thank you. Yeah. Well, I use this, I use a CBD, uh, salve- Salve. Love it...
• 7:21
on my, right on my neck right there, where I get a little bit of it, and it seems to work. Yeah. It gets in there. Great. Does its thing, at least
• 7:27
I'm thinking it does its thing, so when you think something does a thing, it does a thing. Yeah. What is, what are you doing? [laughs] [coughs] Oh, I'll just... [laughs] Oh. This is- I carry mine with me.
• 7:43
This is kind- [coughs]... kind oasis rapid relief stick organic oils for muscles and joints. 1,200 milligrams of full-spectrum CBD. Full-spectrum? Ha. Uh, I did... Yeah. Ha. I was doing the, uh- Ha...
• 7:59
I was doing the Floyd Landis stuff for a while because when they first came out, we got them and had them in the store. And I never really got the CBD, like, the things you chomp on, but the, but the...
• 8:13
I think topical's the way to go. Yeah, and the tincture. Mm-hmm. Under your tongue, right there. Ba, ba, ba, ba, ba. I don't know, but, uh, I've had them. Did not use them this winter.
• 8:22
That may explain why I didn't have that great a winter. Uh, I thought for sure we were done with winter yesterday when it was- Yeah... a record high of- You're a fool... 72. You're a fool. You knew that wasn't it.
• 8:33
A record high for the day, and, of 72 degrees, and then- Yeah... just- I went to-... 24 hours later it's 40 degrees... I rode to work today in about 37. Yeah, okay. Pretty close to 40 degrees. It was nice. It was,
• 8:47
it was wintery, but definitely- I can tell you when-... yesterday was insane...
• 8:51
I can tell you when it's gonna, what's, when it's the next wintery day besides tomorrow and whatever is gonna be Dave's 34th birthday for his Timberline- Oh, yes... bicycle. Saturday? Yeah.
• 9:02
For, for Justin Timberline's birthday? Yeah, Justin Timberline's 34 this year. Wow. And, uh, it will be- I don't know about this, but I might be able to pull something off. What's happening?
• 9:10
Yeah, uh, uh, meet at 11:30 in front of Duke's for the parade. Yeah. I would say you could probably get there at 12:30 maybe and still see the parade? Yeah. 'Cause it- Yeah. Yeah, I've done it...
• 9:20
it's, it's basically the end of the parade right there. Right. Yeah. So it does tend to take an hour to get through the whole route. It just... Yeah. They're to- Fun, fun fact...
• 9:31
yeah, look at and heckle and- Fun fact, that's the first time I ever saw your new, your current minivan, was at Justin Timberlake's birthday. [laughs] It was, like, 14 years ago or whenever I got it. Yeah. Oh, no.
• 9:43
It, 11 years ago. Yeah. Whatever. It's been a long time. [laughs] I remember. You know why I remember? Yeah. You had beer in it. Oh. So we were walking to get beer. Nice. I'm like, "Yeah, I'll do that with you."
• 9:52
That was good planning. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. [laughs] Memories. Yeah, man. I saw, Tony, I don't know, did you put this on [laughs] or did I? This urban Milwaukee, Milwaukee County holding public meeting on 30th Street.
• 10:05
That's you. Rail trail? It's a good idea, but I thought that it was a meeting that was coming up, and it was a meeting that had passed already. Oh. I didn't get the meeting minutes. Um.
• 10:16
But there's, they're quite a push to do stuff like north of the city and south of the city. We have pretty good east-west connections, but there's not anything really good- To go... right down- Yeah...
• 10:28
the center or even just- True... north or just south- Very true... of downtown. So, uh, I don't know, if it, if, if something... And that would be going through the old Century City area and stuff by- Right...
• 10:38
the old AO Smith plant over there when they bent, bent around the corner with the train there. Oh, yeah. Kind of, uh... Yep. It kind of rolls into- Oh, d- dancing around-... I don't know if you caught the news...
• 10:46
the Sherman zone. Yeah. Uh, the news yesterday had, uh, talk about how they're trying to at the city work on, like, zero traffic deaths. It's like a program.
• 10:58
But yesterday, um, I'm bringing this all together with cycling because former Bike Fed member, Jessica Weinberg, is the director of that program. And so she was on the news yesterday, and I was like, "I know you."
• 11:10
I know you. You do good things for cycling infrastructure. They're the ones responsible for all the bump-outs. Right on. Um, stuff like that. Yeah. So- I think that's stuff that Dave Schlabowski started- Yep, it is...
• 11:20
a long time ago. She just bought a really cool house, too. I'm just throwing that on the side note. [laughs] And there's this fun... I've been, I've been driving [laughs] along the newly, uh, bike lane-ified Lake Drive.
• 11:35
It's a little interesting. I don't know about this. I, no, I tried to go there- I haven't done this... today and the, or was it yesterday? One of the... I think it was today. Oh, yeah. It was- It was closed again.
• 11:42
Well, yeah, there was, there was something that just screwed up right over, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, just north of, uh, Kenwood and, and whatever. And it w- they had it, didn't have it marked.
• 11:54
It was just, like, a chuckhole that they just filled with- Oh, yeah, 'cause I couldn't-... like, crap. And you just couldn't-... I could, I could not turn north onto Lake Drive...
• 12:01
yeah, so they were repairing that apparently. Mm. But, I mean- [laughs] They just did- It was like-... the freaking road, like- I know, I know... six months ago [laughs] now... well, yeah.
• 12:08
And it was funny 'cause they, like, reopened it, and as, like, the day they reopened it was, like, a huge amount of snow.
• 12:17
So it was like also a test of, oh, you know, brring, are they gonna actually address that bike lane? Which they did kind of, but they couldn't because the fucking residents would...
• 12:28
on Lake Drive because they feel like they're so damn affluent- Yeah... and bee, bee, bee, bee, bee, we're entitled to this and whatever. They'll put out the garbage cans right in the damn bike lane. Yep. Seen it.
• 12:39
And, and- Knock those fuckers over... oh, and- Just knock those fuckers over. And, well, yeah, but- [laughs] And then dump like, you know, lawn clippings.
• 12:47
Like- I'm, I'm thinking- I, I, it just, it was just like so aggravating just looking at it... I'm thinking football pads, shoulder into them. Yeah. Boom. Mm-hmm.
• 12:54
I'd go for my '68 Dodge Polara any day of the week to knock those shits down. Knock those fuckers- Wouldn't put a dent in that Polara. [laughs] I'd, I s-... There was probably this, this much room- I will take those-...
• 13:02
between the engine and the radiator. [laughs] 'Cause it only had a 318. It didn't have a big block in it. Yeah. It just had, you know... So there was plenty of room up in there. They made room for that big block.
• 13:10
They made room for that 440 Polara baby. Mm-hmm. Sorry, went, dovetailed into a rant and meh. But yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, see. It's a rant right there. [bell rings] Oh, hello. Oh, yes. Top of the hilly.
• 13:25
It's a short hill today. Short and big order, and it says Irish on the can. Yeah. Sh, sh, sh, guys. That's it. Yeah. Hey, we are doing the Irish month. Apparently it's, it's actually from the Ireland, the Emerald Isle.
• 13:35
No, it really is? Well- I was joking... at least, at least the re- the recipe is. The, [laughs] the White Hag Irish Brewing Company. Yes. Wait.
• 13:44
From Sligo on Ireland- Brewed by the White Hag, Northern American, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This is local. [laughs] It says it's from- That's even better... it's from Sligo on Ireland's west wild Atlantic way.
• 13:57
At least the recipe. Yeah, product of the USA. Yep, yep, yep. Brewed by the- Brewed by the White Hag North America. Huh. Milwaukee. Oh, yeah. It's, um, out of, uh, Pilot Project. I'd say it must be a- Oh, okay.
• 14:08
That works. Yeah. M- it must be a contract beer then. Yeah. Yeah. Good on them. But, but yeah, it's like they're... That, that brewery in- I'll go there to check this out... in, in Dublin. In Dublin.
• 14:19
It was like, okay, here's the recipe. Here's the thing. Here's how you- It's a great idea, actually... how you do it. Yeah, you don't get a ton of IPAs over there. I mean, I just...
• 14:25
This is like- I'm sure it tastes totally different there because of the water... this is honestly... Okay, this,
• 14:29
um, being part of Pilot Project, is probably like the first beer I've actually considered I've had from that place. Um- Completely. Because I mean, we... There was like a- 'Cause you don't go to the Gas House, do you?
• 14:44
No. They have one. I mean, like going to that, uh, the Pilot Project place. Mm-hmm. Pilot Project place. Pe, pe, pe, pe, pe. It's right by The Best Place. Um- It is. It is, yeah. [laughs] So end up going- Sorry...
• 14:57
over that way. Pilot Project. Boing, boing. Someone's popular. Um, but it was just such a hassle like the last time I was there, 'cause [laughs] it was like, "You're supposed to have your chip." It was Fat Tire Tour.
• 15:08
Oh, yeah. It was like, yeah, I'm... And they were like just flummoxed by the fact that somebody had cash. Yeah. And I just wanted to independently buy a beer. And they're like, "No, you are...
• 15:17
You, no, you're just supposed to have a, a thing." And I'm like, "Well, I didn't pa- pay in. [laughs] Sorry." Yeah. I, I never pay in, so. Exactly.
• 15:24
Speaking of rides I don't pay into, mostly because I probably won't be heading to them, but they sound very cool, and they sent propaganda in the mail. This is the first one.
• 15:35
It is celebrating the 40th year of the cvcride.org. This is the Chippewa Valley- Oh. Uh, what, what are they called? Chippewa Valley Century Ride.
• 15:49
They got your, uh, your 35, your 50, your 70, and your 100. I just thought it was nice they sent a thing so I could read it. It says- Yeah...
• 15:57
it's entirely on blacktop roads and winds through the scenic farmland of Chippewa County. Riders will enjoy views of Chippewa Falls, Flambeau Rivers, Lake Wissota, and Holcombe,
• 16:08
and the unique kettle moraine topography- What?... of the Chippewa County Forest. Whatever happened to the- 6 to 700 riders they're saying. Yeah. Whatever happened to the three-speed rider on that lake in, it's like
• 16:20
Pemmican or something, where you're supposed to wear tweed and do internal three-speed ride? I know. There's a tweed ride here. I know. I've done that many a time, but I'm gonna find out.
• 16:31
We're gonna find out while we take the station break. I just- Or you keep talking.
• 16:34
[laughs] I just noti- I just noticed while, uh, I was looking over at the clock that says how much time has lapsed, that we don't start for another [laughs] 43 minutes.
• 16:42
We're in the basin for another- [laughs] Oh, my God, you're right. We started at 5 on... Oh, wait, that's wrong. No, I didn't- It's daylight savings... I didn't get to that. I'd reset the f- the heater-ma-junkie.
• 16:51
Uh, but I didn't reset that. To be fair, I forgot to turn it off. But it's not on right now, so anyway, this, uh- Time is a flat circle, man... this, this, this, uh, this 40th CVC ride here
• 17:05
r- has raised almost $250,000 for our community betting fitting... Ben- benefiiting- Benefiting... local youth organizations, initiatives, tackling hunger and homelessness, et cetera, parks and whatnot and whatnot.
• 17:16
Check that out. That's May 24th. And- January, February, March, April, May 5... and should you wanna check out threespeedtour.com, that's the Lake Pemmican ride. Okay. May 16th and 17th this year. Where is that Pemmican?
• 17:32
Wisconsin. Oh, look at the pelican. Fly, pelican. Welcome to Lake Pemmican Three-Speed Tour. I don't know where Pemmican is. Well, we'll look after the show and- It's on the TV screen... yeah.
• 17:40
Well, it's- It's on the Montana seeing it... been a good time though. It's, you know, it's coming. He hanging out in our, in his hot tub. Got a gorillas over here or something. Is that Samson? That, that might be fun.
• 17:48
Is that Sa- is that Samson? No. [laughs] I don't know. Just your average gorilla? Just a- Or chimpanzee? It's more of a- Chimpanzee... yeah, it looks like a chimp to me, but- Okay. The other ride- Okay...
• 17:57
the other ride I got propaganda for, and because they sent it we'll mention it. This is the September ride brewery to winery in Eagle River. Eagle River? Get the rope. Oh, no, wait. [laughs] New York City. Yeah.
• 18:13
Uh, apparently they do some riding, and then there's trail rides, and there's, uh, road rides, and there's rest areas, and wineries, and breweries, and, uh- That's Septimber.
• 18:23
That's kinda clever, 'cause that's sorta timber country up there. Uh-huh. Septimber. Uh-huh. Uh-huh. Here, here, here's a map- Uh-huh... if you want one.
• 18:30
Of course, there probably, if I get to it, will be links in the show notes. List the website. Yep. Vilas County. Vilas. Vilas. I think that's Vilas County. They ride snowmobiles up there. When is it?
• 18:40
In Sep- This one is September 12th, I believe, is the- Oh, that's my birthday- September... zone... September 12th. My birthday zone. Well, that means my birthday isn't on a weekend. [laughs] Great.
• 18:51
[laughs] So, well, maybe this is, maybe this isn't [laughs] about me. This is not about me. That means birthday week, my brother. Well, it's birthday month- All right... no matter what. Yeah. Mm-hmm.
• 18:59
Saturday, September 12th. So there you go. There you go. You, you send us stuff and it gets read on the thingy. Just being a typical- It happens... only child. Just being that glial child. [laughs] All right.
• 19:13
I had an only child, and then shit happened. So, so we've, we've re- Uh, Bike Bazaar's coming up too, also this weekend, but I mean, have fun there and do- Yeah... it's for good things. Have fun. Which, at? At Riverside.
• 19:25
Riverside. That's, I thought that was, like, two weeks ago. No, that was the one at Wheel & Sprocket. Oh, okay. Yeah. All right. Well, then there you go.
• 19:32
Yeah, I probably- And, and they're doing their expo thing at State Fair next month- And you know what?... sometime. I probably w- Which is fine. It's fine... I'm not gonna go. I'm not gonna go.
• 19:38
You know why I'm not gonna go? No, go. A- You guys can go mess up... I don't have any money to buy shit, and that's another reason. But you don't need that much.
• 19:44
But also, to sell stuff there, you're getting, like, 10 cents on the dollar. Mm-hmm. And I just push the shit out of the window- Mm... into the garbage can. Or you get yourself- So that's kind of aggravation...
• 19:52
a badass deal on an ostrich saddle only to have it get stolen. Yeah. We're bringing that up again, 'cause I'm still bitter. I would, I would say. No, but, um, the Milwaukee Rec had recognized, uh,
• 20:03
um, one of their employees who, uh, used to be, uh, one of my bartenders [laughs] at- Oh... at Nomad. No way... Rocky. Um, 'cause I ran into her at the last time it was at Riverside a couple years ago.
• 20:18
I was like, "Holy shit, what are you doing?" "Da, da, da." And it was really cool. And I was like, "Oh, no, I didn't know you were working for that." So now she got, like, good props and whatever. Ah, nice.
• 20:27
So good on you, Rocky. Good on you, Rocky. Uh, rolling out of the state and into the cycling world as a whole. The globe. I found this article pretty interesting.
• 20:38
It's written by, uh, the guy that, Daniel, um, Malloy, M-A-L-L-O-Y. He is the guy that owns Tumbleweed Bicycles, and they make a bike called the Prospector, which is pretty unique. Tumbleweed.
• 20:51
And he's- Sounds like a good bike name for a company- Yeah... Tumbleweed. Tumbleweeding. And his story is about Rohloff versus Pinion, and why they- Interesting... and why they chose Rohloff, and it's...
• 21:02
I would be on the same page, but, uh, I would- I don't even have to read, read that to [laughs] after riding opinion. You're gonna have your own AI? Well, after riding Pinion- [laughs]...
• 21:11
I'm like, I would much rather ride a Rohloff.
• 21:14
Well, I don't know, and I haven't ridden enough of them, or maybe I wasn't paying attention enough to notice, but between the winding up of the gearbox itself and also the freewheel, it's like there's some,
• 21:27
you're- Yeah, yep... you're doing a little bit of that. Definitely that. There is that. There is that, for sure. And I go the other way. That's why I like Onyx subs, because you do this and you're immediately going.
• 21:35
Oh, yeah, those things are insane. That said, I do have two bikes with Rohloffs on them. You do. Guess how often I ride them. Just about never. Very rarely. One-handed. Well, one of them is for going around the world.
• 21:46
You should probably change the oil. And I haven't gone, I have not gone around the world yet, so that one, what's- You should probably change the oil in those bad boys. They've been sitting a while. They'll be fine.
• 21:53
[sighs] 50,000 miles you can go on them. Well- Well, depending on how you use them... I think, I think the oil change is like a car interval. It's like 5,000 miles.
• 22:01
Plus, I guess if you sit it, sit it, sit it around in your living room just to gawk at it. Mm-hmm. Music scene. Well, the one, though, I really should ride, I, I will ride.
• 22:09
In fact, I'm going to commit to riding one of them. Well, if you don't want to, just let me.
• 22:13
It is a bike that we built specifically because a Rohloff has such a wide chain line that we could make a fat bike with a normal bottom bracket. So the chain line is, like, 57 millimeters. That bike sucks. Give it to me.
• 22:28
It doesn't suck, though. It's the best bike I have. No, it's not. You should just give it to me. I don't want it to get stolen, so I don't ride it around town. [laughs] Well, there's that. But definitely don't do that.
• 22:35
Yeah. So, and the other one is a Smitty. I've seen that. With a 29. I've ridden that Smitty. Yes. When it had that goofy fork on the front. The Lauf? [laughs] I like that Lauf fork.
• 22:47
I just, it was time to let it go- It's weird as shit... because it was worth some money, and I wasn't really using it for what it was intended for. Oh, yeah. Hey, do you guys remember Hans Rey? Hmm? Hans "No Way" Rey,
• 22:59
trials extraordinaire. Um, he had a pretty good article, they covered it in Bicycle Retailer. I don't know if that was originally where it was.
• 23:07
But basically saying that the cycling industry as a whole is totally screwing up with e-bikes because they're not owning the naming of them. Hmm.
• 23:16
Like, personally, I hate that they call the little 20-inch things that look like scooters fat bikes when they're not fat bikes. Agreed. And that, I think, is a journalism thing, and I think it's a- Likely.
• 23:28
I think it's the clowns from the Netherlands, and I think we have one guy over there that listens, so. Um, they, they're not fat bikes, dude. Sorry. They're e- They're little wheel bikes.
• 23:38
Well, in his definition, they would be an e-moped. So anyways- Interesting... he's, he's suggesting, and I think this is a cl- a smart thing, that it's e-bicycle, e-moped, and e-motorcycle. Okay. Some- somehow. Okay.
• 23:52
I mean, you gotta, you got, you can't call them- All right... all electric bikes. You just, yeah, I agree. You cannot do that. I agree. Totally. Not across the board. Yeah.
• 23:59
So an e-bicycle is class one pedal assist only, 20 mile an hour max, 750 watt max, which is perfect for most people commuting or doing anything else. In the UK, yes.
• 24:10
In, or in anywhere except for the United States, where we can ride wherever the fuck we want. 'Merica. Fuck yeah. Rock, eagle, flag. Hell yeah. 'Merica. Fuck yeah. Fuck yeah.
• 24:20
Uh, and then, so then next, next up would be an e-moped And throttle-equipped or f- or faster than 20 or exceeding 750 watts, including class two and three, which are now bicycles Yeah, bicycles for us.
• 24:32
Um- So- And then e-motorcycle is- [laughs]... you know, the things that all the dumb kids are riding these days. Where- Wee. Wee, wee, wee... where does the license and insurance sit there?
• 24:41
That's a good question, because I think that's part of the whole issue is that- Because I also feel a bunch of this is political and lobbyists, because yeah, I get it, Sur-Rons shouldn't [laughs] be on a bike trail. No.
• 24:55
12-year-old kids shouldn't be on Sur-Rons either, ripping around the city. 100%, man. Right You should be 18 [laughs] to ride a Sur-Ron. Those things are insane. Yeah. And they- Or be a really ta- anyway.
• 25:06
But, but I think some of this is also political lobbying, making money for cities because there's a market here. You know? Oh, you're not just buying this class two pedal bike now.
• 25:23
In this case it would be an e-moped. Now you're paying a registration fee, insurance, things like that. Well, y- because they probably should be... If, if, if, if they're not gonna be regulated by the industry- Pff...
• 25:36
right? [laughs] What the hell are you doing? He's sharing the last beer. I'm sharing the wh- I, that's why I hate- To be fair, there is a shit ton of beer in the fridge. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 25:42
Yeah, well then- But I'm just saying... drink your damn beer. But no- No, we're not done yet... that was very sweet. I'm just saying, it, the... That's why I hate- I love that pour...
• 25:48
I hate- I thought that was really sweet... I hate buying four-packs- Yeah... for the simple reason- That's, that's silly... so here, I did my third. All right. You can get a third of it- I like to do it when there's-...
• 25:57
and you can get a third of it too... four people. Yeah. That makes more sense. Yeah. But this is the only way it was coming through, and I didn't- Dan didn't wanna come. So- Dan. Dan.
• 26:04
I didn't wanna sit there- Dan, Dan... and stare at the aisles of Total Wine again and just be, "Oh." I was moving the van. To- I, I, I'm on kind of a timeline.
• 26:15
[laughs] I, I think we, we, we had the open house after the last show, right? I believe so. Yes. Pretty sure that's why there's still a bunch- Yes... of beer [laughs] in the fridge. Oh, fair enough. Cool. All right.
• 26:24
So all we did, we, we had the studio open. We didn't have the shop open this time. Yep. That was nice.
• 26:28
Mostly because I decided on Saturday, which was the day of the thing, that I actually wanted to have people [laughs] in the studio, so I pushed everything from here- Over there...
• 26:37
into there, and then you couldn't get in the door. That's true. So that wouldn't have made very much [laughs] sense to have it as an open house.
• 26:41
I, I really enjoyed, since we're talking about that, I really love, uh, enjoyed, um... [smacks lips] It's not, is it Elevate? Who's the woodworking shop on the next, the third floor? Um- Um, it- Um- Current.
• 26:55
Current, yeah. Yeah. Current, they're on the fourth floor. Yeah. Current Projects. Oh, that's right, this is only the second floor. Um, yeah, they had a pretty, they had a pretty neat setup up there. They were nice.
• 27:03
Yeah. And they were also really cool guys. Well, so normally I would be in my space the whole time, and you can't escape because it's- Oh, yeah, so you got to get around a little bit... I, I shut the place.
• 27:11
I wanted to go up and see Renee and, and 1913 play. Yeah.
• 27:15
And so we went up there for a little bit, and then we just walked around and talked to everybody else that's in the building, which was a way better way to go [laughs] I learned. Sure. Oh, yeah, yeah.
• 27:22
And then we got back here at, like, 9:30, and place was kinda emptying up by then, so we just sat in here and listened to music and drank beer. Nice. Yeah. Wendy and I mostly. Right on.
• 27:33
I was on my way almost- [laughs]... and then I got, like, this insane- I enjoyed-... allergy attack-... um, Joe-... and I was like, I'm like, "I can't, I can't even leave this room." Oh, no, sock.
• 27:42
Uh, Joe Nadolski was next door and he's like, "What's going on?" I'm like, "Oh, you need to come over." Oh, yeah, they came over. And he loved it. He's like, "Oh, this is really cool."
• 27:48
He's like, "I had no idea this was here." There were several hundred people that came through. Yeah, there was a, it was a good crowd. Yeah, you- There was some pricey art. Yep. That lady, oh, her stuff was pricey.
• 27:59
Was Shel- Shelby or Mary? The one that's right next door to the sh- Shelby? Oh. Shelby O'Keefe? Yeah. Is Sh- [laughs] I don't know if she's of the O'Keefes, but her name- No... is Shelby O'Keefe.
• 28:07
[laughs] She, yeah, she had some- Oh, is that like Kid O'Shea?... pricey- Is he of the, uh- Oh, where's the, uh-... Kilcarnie O'Sheas? Mer, mer, mer, mer. Oh, I had it here. Brandon down the way
• 28:15
is a visual artist, and his business cards are, like, Pokemon cards that he spray paints the back of and then stamps his thing on it. I'm like, "Are any of these worth a lot of money?"
• 28:26
'Cause some Pokemon cardboard- Yeah, right... are worth... Not, not with his stuff sprayed on it probably, but I thought it was a pretty clever idea to make your own business card since it's already a card. Mm-hmm. Yeah.
• 28:36
Did you guy- did you guys read the [laughs] Jalopnik article on abandoned railroad e-bike camping is the next great American adventure? No. How did I miss that? [laughs] 'Cause I check that website every day.
• 28:46
[laughs] That is right. You'll, you can check it out after, but basically it's an e-bike on top of a, um, like an old US Postal Service, uh, last mile delivery- And they're using-... vehicle... the wheel to power it?
• 29:01
Yeah, and then they have, but it's on the railroad track. Yeah. That's genius. Uh-huh. And then you just take- That sounds like so much fun...
• 29:06
and it's light enough to take it off the track and camp in the thing, and then put it back on the track. Oh, man. I don't know. Look, I think it says- That sounds like big fun...
• 29:13
I, I re- I think, it's been a while since I read it, but I think it says somewhere in here how many miles of abandoned rails there are, and it's just a m- and it's a lot. Nice. Yeah. You can check it out.
• 29:24
They're like 3D-printed wheels that go on the track. Oh, shit. I r- I think, um, I was in the orbit of, uh, Zito and G- Guy Rehorst. Wow. And Guy was- Guy. Guy.
• 29:42
Hey, Guy. What's up, Guy? Guy, how's it going, Guy? Yeah. What's up, Guy? And when, but when the guy lands on Guy, it's funny as hell. It's like, oh, yeah.
• 29:49
But he was talking about something along these lines, and they had, like, a- Yeah, no... he was calling it a name, and I can't think of the name. And he can't think of the name either.
• 29:58
Like- 'Cause I've, I've actually asked him... like a, like a ricksham or something. Mm-hmm. Gotta make up a new name for it. Yes, yes. Interesting. That sounds like a lot of fun. But yeah, that looks, mm-hmm.
• 30:08
That, that would be a good time. Little, uh, little fat bike news now that we're in the fat bike zone. All right. Getting fat.
• 30:15
Uh, at least three, maybe f- well, the fourth one is a one-off that, uh, a guy named Josh up in Hayward built with a guy in Colorado that was actually in bike, on bikepacking.com, but Sealy, Dave, and I saw it up at the Fat Bike Birkie, and it's really goofy, and it was a fixie So he, so he raced one of the shorter races on a fat bike fixie.
• 30:38
[laughs] That's just posing. [laughs] That's just- Uh, but- Come on. Okay, so that's a one-off, but, um, I- probably if people follow bike stuff, they know Revel is back.
• 30:50
Adam Miller, the guy that founded it, bought it back, and one of the cool things is when private equity bought them out, they discontinued all the Ti bikes. Mm. Just concentrated on carbon. Everybody want carbon.
• 31:02
But Adam, and Chris Reichel more importantly, who is Dirty from, uh, the, the, the- Sure... Drunk Cyclists... Drunk Cyclists...
• 31:10
um, who is now back at Revel again as their, uh, their marketing guy, they're bringing back the Ti bikes. And I believe, at least from what I heard, that they have a redesigned Big Iron, which is their titanium fat bike.
• 31:24
Ooh. So that's one that's new, or e- at least if not new, 'cause it used to be a Y Cycles. Mm-hmm. Now it's Revel. So it... But I believe it's also been rejiggerified on the geometry.
• 31:36
George from Broken Spoke was riding a black carbon bike with no stickers on it or anything, and said it's something new from someone he knows. [laughs] Which he's- Nice... the biggest fat bike dealer in the country.
• 31:50
Yeah, he, he... [laughs] So it's something from a big- That's a bait and tease... some, it's from somebody- Way to go, George... somebody bigger... bitch. I know who it is, but I can't- Oh, oh...
• 32:00
I, I can't- Well, you'll tell me after the show... say. I mean, the vault... I can't say. NDA'd you now. You did an NDA. I can't spell it. [laughs] I can't spell... [laughs] I can't- Does it start with-... say it.
• 32:11
Uh, anyway, it, uh, I'm sure that that will be out pretty soon. Thanks, George. And the other one, which I can't believe I missed, and JP in Madison has one, is the Esker Hayduke LVS Ti Fat. Mm.
• 32:24
So it's the, it's like a long wheel base. It- Hey, what are you doing over here? Hey, jumping up. Still have seen that one. Pat jumped up and bit me. That one's long.
• 32:32
But so JP has one, and they had, like, a two-week order window, and they already filled it. So for 2026- Oh... you can't even get one. So maybe fall or 20- [sighs]... or early 2027. Fucking JP.
• 32:44
I think it's the kick-assest idea for a, for a fat bike. It's, it's for, it's for carrying stuff. It's adventuring. You're adventuring on that thing. Uh, JP- And it's titanium...
• 32:53
JP is the one that told me my Astrid secrets. Yes, I know. [laughs] Didn't you trade him some worn underwear or something for it? Yeah, actually. [laughs] Uh, what did I do? No. My gently used boxer shorts. No, no. Ooh.
• 33:03
Way better. Way better. I bought some underwear from him. Oh. Um, I traded him those, uh- Some stupid wheels... the internal eight Elfin wheels from, um- Oh, from Carlos? Carlos... the r- the red ones? The red ones.
• 33:19
[laughs] Those are pretty cool wheels. Yeah. That was a cool bike. I just had no use for the wheels. Yeah. I just couldn't use them. I know. So I made out until I didn't. So I was gonna ha- What'd I do with...
• 33:28
Oh, it's over there. It's over there. I got a box. We just got a box from, uh, the guys at Blivit Sports, which is a Canadian company. Eh? Eh. But now they have US distribution because of our glorious leader.
• 33:39
Uh, they had to come in here and make it so that they could actually sell stuff to us, uh, idiot Americans. So they now do that.
• 33:45
But he sent some kickass boots that are probably the best boots out there for winter riding, and a couple pairs of gloves. I'll, we'll have something on that real soon. I wanna see them. You're gonna see them.
• 33:56
You can go see them. Uh- Are those the gardening gloves? Woo-ha? Gardening what? The gardening gloves you got? Oh, no, those are from, uh, those are from the, the guys over at Hand Up. Oh.
• 34:08
Hand Up now is Live Long and Press On. I can't do it, man. Never have, never will. Can't do it. I can do it- Can't... with one hand at least. Nope. And then I can do... Nope. Near, near, neat. I can do that, too.
• 34:19
I can't. Baby shark, near, near, neat. Oh, God, we've digressed. Uh, okay, and then, uh, yeah. Oh, man. And- Trails... over at yourfatbike.com, which I'm sure you all go to, I've started and- Wait...
• 34:33
we have over 50 people in it now, and I haven't- I'm in. Oh, you guys are in. I have not opened the community up to our greater whole yet. I've only sent it to the newsletter subscribers to just kinda get it
• 34:45
seeded, make sure there's no issues with it, but I think- Mm... within the next week or so I will open it up.
• 34:50
And it is, it is a community for fat bike people that is not on a major social media platform, and so far I'm, I'm thinking it's pretty good. Yeah. We've got some pretty good participation in it.
• 35:00
I found Alroy, even though I spell his name wrong. Yeah. [laughs] True that. Uh, Weekly Dose of Fat newsletter, free, link, and then I started doing the Weekly Dose of Fat Microdose. Ooh. So as a podcast.
• 35:16
It's only, it's a fi- Yes, I did notice that... it's a five-minute podcast that's basically a recap of the newsletter. Okay. But the newsletter is only by subscription. You don't get that. It's a- Shh.
• 35:24
I didn't remember yet. So you just gotta... Uh- I noticed, I noticed the Microdose... I did not notice that he was- I was like, "Oh."
• 35:29
I'm like, "Is that a newer thing, or has that been just there- I just thought it was-... and I didn't notice it?" I just thought it was a good name. Yeah. It is. It is.
• 35:36
[laughs] I just didn't realize it was there all the time, I guess. Just the naming- Right... in my eyes. Yes, because it- In my mind's eye...
• 35:43
the we- the, the newsletter's still called the Weekly Dose of Fat, and, uh, w- it's been pretty good lately, obviously, 'cause it's fat bike season.
• 35:50
But, uh, we got couple hundred and 20 subscribers now or something, and- Cool... it's growing and, uh, we wa- [clears throat] I wanna get this community growing, too, because I think it, it, it's...
• 36:00
We've got several people in there now that are in the industry that are really helpful, and if newbies come in there- Nice... and they don't know what's going on, we got some stuff for them, and blah, blah, blah.
• 36:10
You can learn. You can get learnt. Learnt. They'll be like Sherpas. Right. We will guide you up- Fat bike-... on this mountain. Fat bike Sherpas. Uh, yeah. Of fat bikeness. Oh, I gotta, I gotta say hey to Wendy.
• 36:22
That, that'd be my wife. March 25th, Cowboy Junkies, she got me tickets for Christmas, so we are going to- Oh. Very cool... see the Cowboy Junkies at Turner. We get to see Gary Newman. Pretty excited about that. Yeah.
• 36:33
Um, I did send a show note link that we haven't talked about a little bit. I was intrigued by that, but then I realized I'm gonna be out of town. But what link are you referring to there, Donald? I'm good on that.
• 36:42
The new tracking system, um, that Kong is selling. Called Nog? Nog. That's how you pronounce it. Kong. Thank you. Nong. Kong. Kind of an interesting thing, but of course- Da, da, da, da, da, da, da... where, whereas in,
• 36:55
where I kind of- [laughs]... you know, lose, you know, interest is that it's a Apple Find My only- Well-... compatible app... get with the program.
• 37:06
The way, the reason I didn't care for it is it's on an Omnium, and I'm kinda pissed at them. [laughs] I noticed that right away- [laughs]... and figured you would comment.
• 37:13
Well, I mean, w- after we worked for two years to get people to buy 'em, and they wanted to buy 'em, and then they can't sell 'em anymore. Ah. It's like, huh. Fuck you, Trump. Um, uh- Those are such great bikes...
• 37:21
that's really, that's really not Omnium as much. As I've said in the past- I wanted to hate that bike. I love that bike. Right on. God, it was cool. Well, that, I, we did it. I'm gonna have a- As far as our bikes...
• 37:31
more bike dilemma here. So next week, uh, Local Live, which I went to. I rode down to y- on my bicycle- I-... which was fun to do... I did see you on your way. Yes. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah. You did.
• 37:43
Is there a Local Live twice a month now? No. One tonight. But the next time that we see each other in this- Mm-hmm... and we see you- Oh... and we see you. Fair audience. And you, and you, and you, and you. Um,
• 37:54
it, uh, this past one was Altered 5 Blues, which is good. It was, like, jumped up, uh, Chicago blues. Like, Blues Brothers blues. Not, [singing] you know? I don't know how to describe it better than that. [laughs] But,
• 38:11
uh, next month's is The Crosses- Oh... which is the Phoenix- Oh, that might be good, yeah... of the fire of the crimson. Yes, that would be- Next Tuesday or two weeks from now? It's the- Two weeks from-...
• 38:20
first Tuesday of- First Tuesday of-... March... April... March, April. April. Yeah, I'm fucking- Now we're all screwed up. I know. I started it. You screwed me up. I know. I started it.
• 38:29
I s- I know I started it, but- That's the first- Digressing quickly before we leave, but do you remember when you laid the horn on me- Yeah... on Humboldt? I do. There were two young people leaving Uptowner,
• 38:41
and they- That was me. I, it was... both on their bikes. They both turned and looked, and then I crossed the street, and they're like, "Yeah, you better be careful on that sidewalk."
• 38:49
And I'm like, "Oh, guys, that's Greg Smith. The bike he owns every day is sidewalk." Greg who? I'm like- That guy's name is Fen... "We're doing that just as a joke." I don't know who you're talking about.
• 38:56
[laughs] That guy. It was this other guy, not you, that honked at me. Yeah. It was this guy named Greg Smith. [laughs] But they just thought it was hilarious, 'cause they're like, "Oh, now it makes sense.
• 39:04
[laughs] Like, you were on the sidewalk." But yeah, there, I wanted to be sure. To be fair, what were you doing on the sidewalk on your bike? Delivering papers.
• 39:11
[laughs] Um, crossing the crosswalk like a polite- Playing paper boy. Phew, phew, phew, phew. Right. You're right, I was illegal, okay? Fuck you. Yeah. Sidewalk rider. You know why? You know why?
• 39:22
Because every one of the streets has a crosswalk that's clearly marked. Yep. And not once has a car stopped for me. I stop sometimes. See? Sometimes.
• 39:32
Well, that, but you were at a light, so you didn't- That time I was at a light... you did not, you did not get that courtesy... but, uh, 'cause I got- Sidewalk ri- sidewalk rider is situational...
• 39:37
you know why I was at that light? Very situational. 'Cause I was gonna cross at the park. Yep. But traffic was going both ways. I'm like, "Oh, screw it. I'll go past the- Yeah. They don't even stop for dogs or anything.
• 39:46
No, they don't. They don't stop for anything. I stop, and then people don't wanna stop behind you, and they're, like- Like-... honking at you. Yeah... and you're like, "Fuck you, there's somebody crossing the street."
• 39:52
[laughs] Pedestrian. Right. All right. All right. Well, we gotta go to Amorphik now and, uh, finish closing our tabs- Tabs... out and have another beer. Yeah. Yeah. Goodness. Bye. Keep the bikes riding.
• 40:05
  [rock music]
