- 0:44Ordinary Women Extraordinary Faith When God calls, we say yes.
- 0:54Hello and welcome to another episode of the Arise Women of God podcast.
- 0:58I'm your host, Tamara K.
- 0:59Anderson, and I am thrilled to be joined once again by mother educator and community leader Lamyra Wheelwright as we tackle this critical question, how to protect yourself from a spiritual attack.
- 1:14Instead of waiting for the adversary to come and attack and you having to do damage control, the mother guardian is called to actively build a fortress around her and her home to help you reinforce your perimeter.
- 1:28We are breaking down three proactive layers today.
- 1:32First is the procedure over panic, why Establishing a simple, predictable expectation strips the enemy of his ability to catch your family off guard.
- 1:45Second, the 6:30am Kitchen table bookend, a real life look at building a daily devotional habit that can fit your family's current stage without burning out your bandwidth.
- 1:59And third, the situational rehearsal, how to practically train your kids through role play and emergency text codes to escape uncomfortable environments before the trap shuts.
- 2:13I love in Luke chapter 11, verse 21, where Jesus states, when a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace.
- 2:24As mothers we are called to be the guardians of the home, armed guardians perhaps of our domestic palaces, be they as big or as small as they are, and we can be completely equipped and procedurally prepared.
- 2:40Lamyra is now going to share how building a fortress starts with the exact method you use to run a chaotic classroom at the beginning of each school year.
- 2:51When you have a procedure, it means you have a procedure for everything.
- 2:55And let me explain what that means.
- 2:56When the kids come into the classroom, I teach them at the very beginning of the year exactly how I want them to come in, what I want them to do.
- 3:04We show them what it looks like, what it doesn't look like.
- 3:07I mean, everything from sitting at the carpet to listening to a story, to doing an activity, to lining up, to checking in books, checking out.
- 3:14Like everything has a procedure and it sounds overwhelming and it is for the first six weeks of school, but then you get those in place and it runs beautifully because then the kids come in and you can have
- 3:29fun at that point because they know, and they also know what your expectations are, what my consequences are, what's going to happen.
- 3:38Okay.
- 3:39So we have to set that up.
- 3:40So what does that look like in a home?
- 3:43Okay, well, the same thing.
- 3:45We're going to set up our procedure for the day you have a routine.
- 3:49And the thing that has worked so well for my family is we have struggled for, let's see, my husband and I have been married for 25 years.
- 3:58Okay.
- 3:58And our oldest is 22.
- 4:01For 22 years, we have struggled with figuring out a routine for a daily devotional doing that morning scripture and prayer study.
- 4:11I'm a big believer in it because I grew up with a family who did that, and it gave me strength when I needed it.
- 4:18So this year at the beginning of 2026, my husband and I sat down and we decided, look, the only time we have time for this, where we know it's going to happen is, is at 6:30 in the morning.
- 4:31No one wants to wake up at 6:30, but my husband is out the door by 6:45.
- 4:35So we knew we've got 15 minutes.
- 4:39It means the kids know there's an end time and mom and dad aren't going to drone on for an hour.
- 4:44But they also know they got to be up.
- 4:47And so we did that consistently until summer started.
- 4:53But my kids were up, we were reading.
- 4:56Sometimes they were asleep, buried in the couch or snuggled.
- 5:00But what we found was, guess what?
- 5:02Mom gets up at 6 and makes breakfast.
- 5:06And then they sit at the table and we eat.
- 5:09And then we got them each a little notebook or book to record things and their own set of scriptures.
- 5:16Guess what?
- 5:17They're eating and they're happy because, hey, mom's got something yummy on the table for me.
- 5:21Now, this puts.
- 5:23I didn't want to be up at 6 making breakfast, but I knew how important this was for our family.
- 5:29So we do that.
- 5:30And then the other thing we bookended with is, my kids know even if we're not great at morning devotional every night, there's going to be family prayer every single night.
- 5:41And they all get a turn picking each week.
- 5:44We put one kid in charge who gets to pick for each of the prayers during the day.
- 5:48Whatever prayers we say, those are things we bookend our day with.
- 5:53I remember when my kids were little, we had like a little picture scripture book that we would read from and the ones that couldn't read, you know, I would just put my finger on the words and they would
- 6:03repeat after me and that was great.
- 6:05When they were littles and as they've grown up and evolved, you know, it changes.
- 6:10Establishing those daily procedural bookends built an invisible spiritual layer and armor around you and your kids.
- 6:19And when you pray, God will guide you to know what is right for your family at this stage.
- 6:25But protection isn't just about what you do in the house.
- 6:28It's about preparing everyone's minds for what they will experience once they step outside your front door.
- 6:37One of the greatest keys to protection is proactive preparation.
- 6:41We need to teach our kids beforehand why they must stay away from certain things like drugs, alcohol and pornography.
- 6:49Don't just lecture them.
- 6:50Actually practice what to say in high stress situations of something they might encounter at school or in a text thread.
- 6:58Sit down with your teenager and role play.
- 7:00What are you going to do if somebody hands you a vape in the bathroom or a pill to help you when you're feeling anxious and stressed out for a test?
- 7:08You guys can brainstorm together and and find the right best thing to say so that when the situation pops up, they remember.
- 7:16You can even establish an emergency text code word.
- 7:20If they ever find themselves in an uncomfortable, dangerous or high pressure situation, they can text a single code word to your phone.
- 7:29When we engage in this kind of proactive preparation through it all, constantly reassure your children that God will loves them no matter what.
- 7:39Teach them how to build and reinforce their own internal light.
- 7:44Sit down together and make a list of physical light enhancers.
- 7:49Things that they can do when they are feeling heavy or down that they can save on their phone for emergency times.
- 7:56Maybe things like listening to a favorite worship song, stepping outside to be in nature and feel closer to God, or memorizing a favorite scripture together.
- 8:07When we train our children to maintain their own light, we are teaching them to stand firm when family prayers follow them into the world.
- 8:17Listen as Lamyra shares a little bit about this.
- 8:20And one day my husband and I were driving along, we were driving at night and we came around a tricky corner and suddenly a car's veering off, but it's dark and we see dust flying everywhere and we're dodging
- 8:32and still going.
- 8:34We couldn't stop.
- 8:35And I remember having this distinct feeling that I knew about that time both my husband's family and my family would be having family prayer.
- 8:45And they all knew when we were traveling.
- 8:48So I knew we would be prayed for by name and protected.
- 8:53So to me, just the practice of it and then your kids knowing that they're going to be prayed for, that is a big deal.
- 9:00But but make sure you have boundaries around your screen time for your kids, their phones around what behaviors are accepted and not accepted at home and what are the consequences for those.
- 9:13Make sure you're very clear on that and it doesn't have to be rough, but it can be okay, we need a break or this isn't going to happen.
- 9:23The other thing to protect yourself is to make sure that you have some tools.
- 9:29Do a self check.
- 9:30Are you making a connection with God every day and that's what I have to do.
- 9:34Am I praying in the morning?
- 9:36At night?
- 9:36Am I reading scriptures?
- 9:38Am I doing something?
- 9:39Am I listening to something positive and uplifting?
- 9:42Those are things and it sounds silly, but those are the basic protections.
- 9:46And I feel like it's because then that way our kids and our families know, hey, this is a safe place where I know I'm prayed for, I'm watched out for and even if I don't want to get up
- 9:57at 6:30 in the morning and I'm dragging my feet and some days maybe I'm not, but I know it's going to happen.
- 10:03So those are some basic things that.
- 10:04I would do Your family's defense protocol does not have to look flawless to be incredibly effective.
- 10:12It is allowed to evolve, pivot and change as your children grow.
- 10:17Be flexible and include your children and your spouse in discussions about how to solve these challenges and trust that God will help you figure out the exact routine your family needs for your current season.
