Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Hey, everybody, Welcome to this edition of Birds Weekly, presented
- 0:14Speaker 1: by the Inside of the Birds that were from my man,
- 0:16Speaker 1: my colleague, my friend, my long lost brother Barry Brooks.
- 0:20Speaker 1: I'm Derek Gunn and Yo B Brooks. It wasn't supposed
- 0:24Speaker 1: to end this way. I mean, I didn't expect them
- 0:27Speaker 1: to get to the super Bowl this year, but I
- 0:30Speaker 1: didn't expect them to buy out the first round of
- 0:33Speaker 1: the first game in the wildcard playoffs. Man, I mean,
- 0:35Speaker 1: I'm still sitting here shell shock that we're talking about
- 0:38Speaker 1: This Eagle season is over.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Man, the gun How in the world do you lose
- 0:44Speaker 2: to a team that is inferior to you as far
- 0:47Speaker 2: as personnel and the way you lost to him is
- 0:52Speaker 2: probably the worst, you know, worst thing ever because they
- 0:55Speaker 2: physically just beat you up.
- 0:57Speaker 3: I mean, they just played.
- 0:59Speaker 2: They played more, They had more of the essence of
- 1:04Speaker 2: all right, I'm here and I'm not going home type
- 1:07Speaker 2: of mentality, and the Eagles didn't. The second half, it
- 1:11Speaker 2: looked like they were like all right, wise fair attitude. Man,
- 1:13Speaker 2: I couldn't believe it. Why am I sitting here doing
- 1:15Speaker 2: this podcast with you right now and not preparing for
- 1:21Speaker 2: the Chicago Bears are you kidding me. Ridiculous, ridiculous. Hey, man,
- 1:29Speaker 2: shouldn't we have seen this coming though? I mean, all
- 1:33Speaker 2: the sons were there, They've been there for weeks about
- 1:36Speaker 2: the ineptness of this offense and how the defense have
- 1:40Speaker 2: been bailing them out of time and time again.
- 1:42Speaker 3: And baron.
- 1:43Speaker 1: You know that old saying, you know, when you live
- 1:44Speaker 1: by the sword, you die by the sword, And man,
- 1:47Speaker 1: these dudes fell on that sword big time, especially in
- 1:50Speaker 1: the second half.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Man, what they say, a zebra never loses the stripes. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:57Speaker 2: they were what we thought they were. And I mean
- 2:01Speaker 2: it's kind of bad. But you know, as soon as
- 2:04Speaker 2: the second half came in, I was teaking. I was
- 2:07Speaker 2: speaking to one of my one of my my colleagues,
- 2:10Speaker 2: you know, one of you know, great producers that are
- 2:12Speaker 2: uh you know with me at NBC, and he says,
- 2:16Speaker 2: all right, here we go, We're about to go through
- 2:18Speaker 2: the same thing. They're not gonna score, they're gonna lose
- 2:20Speaker 2: this game in the second half. And to a T,
- 2:24Speaker 2: that's what happened. To a T, you know what I mean,
- 2:29Speaker 2: A zebra never loses his stripes. It's poetic that it
- 2:34Speaker 2: was the same way that it should have been because
- 2:36Speaker 2: that's the way they've been playing this past season.
- 2:39Speaker 3: We should have known it.
- 2:42Speaker 1: So the forty nine ers get the opening kickoff. Then
- 2:44Speaker 1: a hostile environment, okay, and they're playing with pat stuff.
- 2:48Speaker 1: They're pulling people out of stands to suit up for there.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Man. Yeah, what I'm saying.
- 2:55Speaker 1: You know, they come out to tunnel with their boombox
- 2:57Speaker 1: and everything, and I know they're trying to jack themselves up.
- 3:00Speaker 1: And I'm thinking, you know what this is like, fools
- 3:02Speaker 1: go here. I mean, I understand you trying to get
- 3:04Speaker 1: psyched up, but you ain't got a prayer. And you
- 3:06Speaker 1: know what, considering your whole defense is decimated. Your offense
- 3:11Speaker 1: doesn't have the overall weapons that you used to have.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Your entire offense is based around one guy who had
- 3:16Speaker 1: twelve hundred yards rushing in Christian McCaffrey and almost one
- 3:20Speaker 1: thousand yards receiving. Surely you can put the clamps on this.
- 3:24Speaker 1: They come out, he opened and drive and walk down
- 3:26Speaker 1: the field and a dude named DeMarcus Robinson.
- 3:29Speaker 3: Now let me set the tone for this.
- 3:31Speaker 1: DeMarcus Robinson for you, this is a guy who's a
- 3:34Speaker 1: nine year vet. The most receiving yards he's ever had
- 3:38Speaker 1: in any one season was five hundred and five yards.
- 3:43Speaker 1: This season, he had two hundred seventy six yards receiving
- 3:49Speaker 1: in fourteen games he played. Think about that, be Brooks
- 3:52Speaker 1: two hundred and seventy six yards and fourteen games. Man
- 3:55Speaker 1: that first got a dude looked like Jerry rice Man
- 3:57Speaker 1: wide open in the middle of the field sixty one.
- 4:00Speaker 1: I'm thinking, there's no way this Eagles defense is allowing us.
- 4:04Speaker 2: To happen, especially when they were who they said they were.
- 4:10Speaker 2: They know they like to attack the middle of the field.
- 4:13Speaker 2: They always attacked the middle of the field. And I'll
- 4:16Speaker 2: be darned they didn't come out their first drive and
- 4:18Speaker 2: attack the middle of the field. Then I turn around like,
- 4:22Speaker 2: all right, well you got this great running back. But
- 4:25Speaker 2: really keeps what keeps things going on is their tight end.
- 4:28Speaker 2: He's a temple maker. He can rule the middle of
- 4:31Speaker 2: the field. You know, he gets hurt, he's out the game,
- 4:36Speaker 2: and they still win. Come on, a used check, a
- 4:41Speaker 2: fullback becomes a tight end, and and and and plays
- 4:45Speaker 2: the position where it's supposed to be played better than
- 4:47Speaker 2: our guy. It makes it happen the way he did.
- 4:51Speaker 2: I'm just a those douts of words, man, because I
- 4:53Speaker 2: watched the film. I watched it three times now. I
- 4:56Speaker 2: watched it when I woke up this morning, I watched
- 4:58Speaker 2: it when I was at work, and then I watched
- 5:00Speaker 2: it just before you know, we got on this and
- 5:04Speaker 2: I saw guys. You know, it just didn't seem like
- 5:07Speaker 2: they wanted to play. I mean, let me put a
- 5:11Speaker 2: respective as an offensive lineman. And you coming from the
- 5:16Speaker 2: great state of Wisconsin. Yeah, have you ever seen an
- 5:19Speaker 2: office of lineman have hand warmers? No?
- 5:23Speaker 3: On the field?
- 5:25Speaker 2: No?
- 5:26Speaker 1: No, I've seen offensive lineman. You can attest to this.
- 5:29Speaker 1: I've seen offensive lineman go out, especially in Midwest games
- 5:33Speaker 1: in December January, with no shirts on to get acclimated
- 5:37Speaker 1: to the weather. I'm thinking I got on a Parker,
- 5:40Speaker 1: I got on heated underwear, and these dudes out here
- 5:43Speaker 1: in the field with nothing else, and these guys come
- 5:45Speaker 1: out with hand warmers on.
- 5:47Speaker 3: They've got hand warmers. Come on, man, bro I couldn't
- 5:50Speaker 3: believe it. Man. I played in.
- 5:54Speaker 2: With the Packers and Larry Becker, the office of line coach,
- 5:58Speaker 2: he'd have cussed me out inside the field, back out
- 6:01Speaker 2: of the locker room if I came outside with some
- 6:04Speaker 2: hand warmers on. But yet I saw guys with the
- 6:07Speaker 2: hand womers on office of linemen, our starting right tack
- 6:11Speaker 2: on the game had on hand warmers. What is going on?
- 6:16Speaker 2: And I, you know, I have been thoroughly impressed with
- 6:19Speaker 2: Fred Johnson the entire season. I was he held he
- 6:22Speaker 2: held his own until this game. Bro, he got his
- 6:27Speaker 2: ass kicked this game. Literally, I guess the backup. I'm like,
- 6:34Speaker 2: I couldn't believe it. He got beat up the entirety
- 6:39Speaker 2: of the game. And I didn't see any fight back.
- 6:41Speaker 2: It's like that kid made him say no mons. And
- 6:45Speaker 2: I like Fred. I'm telling you, as a good player.
- 6:47Speaker 2: I like Fred, But if he says I'm doing wrong,
- 6:51Speaker 2: let's sit down and watch the film. He was standing
- 6:54Speaker 2: straight up the entire second half of the game. He
- 6:57Speaker 2: wasn't even in the office of line of stance. Was
- 7:00Speaker 2: standing straight up. There was no bend, there was no urgency.
- 7:06Speaker 2: And in the sets he's getting beat off the ball.
- 7:11Speaker 2: I don't know, I don't know what what went on.
- 7:13Speaker 2: I mean, what happened to the Fred Johnson.
- 7:15Speaker 1: I knew.
- 7:16Speaker 2: I thought that Johnson and Johnson was gonna be all right.
- 7:19Speaker 2: I just knew. First of all, I thought Lane was
- 7:21Speaker 2: gonna play.
- 7:22Speaker 3: Yeah, same here. Then I thought about it. That was
- 7:25Speaker 3: a list, frank Man.
- 7:26Speaker 2: They should have gained the surgery back then and he'd
- 7:28Speaker 2: be ready by at the start of the season. He
- 7:31Speaker 2: probably won't be back to four or five games into
- 7:33Speaker 2: the season next year if he If he does.
- 7:34Speaker 3: Come back, I think he's got to have surgery. Yeah,
- 7:38Speaker 3: he should have had the surgery then.
- 7:40Speaker 2: And I'm gonna loss of words on what we do
- 7:45Speaker 2: in the second half. That makes us as bad as
- 7:47Speaker 2: we are in the second half. Everybody else can make adjustments,
- 7:51Speaker 2: but are people what is going on?
- 7:56Speaker 1: So so I look at the Eagles for offensive driver
- 8:01Speaker 1: after San Francisco scores, and as I reflect on it now,
- 8:04Speaker 1: I'm thinking it was fool's goal because the Eagle's answer
- 8:09Speaker 1: with the ten play march and we see some creativity.
- 8:12Speaker 1: We see a little flip pass to Devonte Smith, and
- 8:15Speaker 1: then we see the Jets sweep the Dallas Goddard and
- 8:18Speaker 1: of course Jake Elliott had the miss dog on extra point.
- 8:21Speaker 2: But Hedys saying about him, No what they call him
- 8:26Speaker 2: missy Elliott?
- 8:28Speaker 3: Oh no they didn't. Oh I miss missing Elliott, missing Elliott.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Oh you know, man, come to think what happened to
- 8:37Speaker 1: him this year?
- 8:38Speaker 3: Seven field goals.
- 8:39Speaker 2: And extra points? No, it's not just this year. It
- 8:42Speaker 2: started last year.
- 8:44Speaker 3: Did in twenty twenty four? Yes?
- 8:46Speaker 2: Man?
- 8:47Speaker 3: Yeah, But you know what though when the playoffs.
- 8:49Speaker 1: Came around in twenty twenty four, he was money were
- 8:53Speaker 1: still missing.
- 8:54Speaker 2: He missed four pats though in the in the playoffs
- 8:58Speaker 2: he missed four pats.
- 9:00Speaker 3: What happened to him?
- 9:01Speaker 1: Man?
- 9:02Speaker 3: What I don't get it?
- 9:04Speaker 2: Well, you know what, they said it a long They
- 9:05Speaker 2: said it all last year, they said it in two thousands.
- 9:09Speaker 3: Was it twenty two when they went to the Super Bowl?
- 9:12Speaker 3: A hungry dog runs faster? Yeah? Them cats was full.
- 9:17Speaker 3: They good And it wasn't the same drive. It just
- 9:21Speaker 3: wasn't it.
- 9:23Speaker 1: And here's the thing that impressed me in most about
- 9:25Speaker 1: that Eagles first drive. They appeared to be committed to
- 9:28Speaker 1: the run. Yes, Saquon Barkley has seven carries for forty
- 9:32Speaker 1: six yards on their first drive. I said, this man
- 9:35Speaker 1: easily gonna bust a buck fifty on this patched up
- 9:38Speaker 1: defense man. That's what I get for speaking prematurely.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Bet, Well, you know they should have. But halftime adjustments
- 9:46Speaker 2: we just don't do. We don't understand what they did.
- 9:49Speaker 2: They were playing man man for the majority of the
- 9:53Speaker 2: first half. Yeah, but then, you know, Robert Salad says,
- 9:56Speaker 2: you know what, these guys aren't special enough that I'm
- 9:59Speaker 2: gonna go ahead and run and a man with them.
- 10:01Speaker 2: I'm just gonna sit back and play zone and have
- 10:03Speaker 2: their quarterback decipher the zone and get it to the guys.
- 10:06Speaker 2: And they couldn't do it any other quarterback. You get zoned,
- 10:10Speaker 2: you'll get picked.
- 10:11Speaker 3: The part we did not have an answer for them
- 10:14Speaker 3: to play zone.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Is that on the quarterback? Is it on the play calling?
- 10:19Speaker 1: Is it on the collection of pass receivers? Yes, all
- 10:23Speaker 1: of the above.
- 10:25Speaker 3: All of the above, well.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Come on almost drop passes, you know, come on, man,
- 10:29Speaker 2: And I told you what I said this, you know,
- 10:30Speaker 2: say last week the lack of discipline on this team
- 10:35Speaker 2: was the biggest key to knowing this season was going
- 10:38Speaker 2: to be a bust because they're not a disciplined football team.
- 10:42Speaker 2: They had seven or eight penalties, well I think six
- 10:45Speaker 2: or seven penalties to to u the forty nine ers, one.
- 10:52Speaker 3: One penalty on the forty nine.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Now, granted forty nine ers got away with a few calls, though,
- 10:57Speaker 1: I'm shocked because usually the visiting team doesn't get away
- 11:02Speaker 1: with certain things that they got away with.
- 11:04Speaker 3: Well, I just think that ours were so blatant.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Ian.
- 11:10Speaker 3: How you jumping off side? Come on, man, exactly off side?
- 11:14Speaker 3: Come on man, you can't do that. Man. They lacked
- 11:16Speaker 3: the discipline to take it to the next level.
- 11:22Speaker 1: What you know, See, I'm glad you said that. How
- 11:25Speaker 1: can this team that's basically intact from a season ago
- 11:29Speaker 1: be as undisciplined as they Well, I mean they said
- 11:31Speaker 1: a team record at one point this season with fourteen
- 11:34Speaker 1: penalties in one game, and seven or eight penalties was
- 11:37Speaker 1: an average for this team. How is that possible for
- 11:40Speaker 1: a team that's the defending champion, knowing that everybody's coming
- 11:43Speaker 1: at you, and yet you don't respond to that mental, physical,
- 11:49Speaker 1: emotional challenge every stinking week.
- 11:53Speaker 2: That's something I can't answer, because there's something you really
- 11:56Speaker 2: can't coach. Either you're a discipline team or you're not
- 11:59Speaker 2: a discipline team. Do you guys take it seriously? Go
- 12:01Speaker 2: out there and cross their t's and dot their eyes,
- 12:03Speaker 2: take care of the little.
- 12:04Speaker 3: Things, which eventually the big things.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Either you have that type of team, you're coaching that
- 12:09Speaker 2: type of team, or you just don't have the discipline
- 12:11Speaker 2: to be that type of team.
- 12:13Speaker 3: I think that they did. They didn't understand that they
- 12:17Speaker 3: were going to play.
- 12:17Speaker 2: In seventeen Super Bowls because everybody wants to knock them
- 12:23Speaker 2: off the perch.
- 12:24Speaker 3: And everybody looked at.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Them like, oh they were you know the first couple game,
- 12:28Speaker 2: Oh oh these are these are the Eagles. But once
- 12:31Speaker 2: they got hitting the jaw one time and they saw
- 12:33Speaker 2: they weren't gonna respond in a way they thought he
- 12:35Speaker 2: was gonna respond. Oh it was. It was all good.
- 12:37Speaker 2: After everybody's like, oh, this is a Beebel team. We're
- 12:39Speaker 2: gonna beat this team up.
- 12:41Speaker 3: Didn't. They're not anything special, man, you know.
- 12:45Speaker 1: And then there's your guy, and I emphasized your guy,
- 12:48Speaker 1: AJ Brown. That man was catching passes with other met
- 12:52Speaker 1: tong and then you get the cameras catch him on
- 12:54Speaker 1: the sideline that jaw jacket with Nick Sirianna. That granted,
- 12:58Speaker 1: Sirianne did not have to be that anime running down
- 13:01Speaker 1: the sideline telling he could have told him from where
- 13:03Speaker 1: he was to get off the field. I'm not putting
- 13:04Speaker 1: this one on Aj this particular time, but Ad you
- 13:08Speaker 1: could tell the season long frustrations and this particular game,
- 13:11Speaker 1: frustrations finally boiled over because the cameras catch him jaw
- 13:14Speaker 1: jacket with Sirianni and I think that sent a bad
- 13:19Speaker 1: message to the sideline, and of course we on the
- 13:23Speaker 1: outside looking in, we magnified and make it a lot
- 13:25Speaker 1: more than possibly what it was. But I think with AJ,
- 13:32Speaker 1: I think it's time you're gonna have to relocate him.
- 13:36Speaker 1: You know, yeah, I know everybody in that building. I've
- 13:39Speaker 1: been told this a number of times this season. Everybody
- 13:42Speaker 1: in that building loves Aj as a person. Everybody from
- 13:46Speaker 1: Jeffrey Lewis on down to the cleaning people love AJ.
- 13:51Speaker 1: But when he gets out of that football field, whether
- 13:53Speaker 1: it's the game field or a practice field, he transforms
- 13:56Speaker 1: into something that has not been appealing to this fan
- 13:58Speaker 1: base and to the media. Like it be Brooks. I
- 14:02Speaker 1: think we're gonna have to find him a new home
- 14:05Speaker 1: after the season.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Play the shimple you remember back at Disney, and now
- 14:09Speaker 2: it's toime to see. I love I love his competitive nature.
- 14:18Speaker 2: I love how he attacked the game, but you could
- 14:21Speaker 2: tell that was in the same age that we saw
- 14:24Speaker 2: during the season, where he was attacking the game like
- 14:27Speaker 2: he usually It was almost like he had a lazah
- 14:30Speaker 2: fair attitude. And it was very apparent that not that
- 14:35Speaker 2: it wasn't important to him, but it just wasn't important
- 14:39Speaker 2: to him. He just didn't go about his business like
- 14:42Speaker 2: I've seen him go about his business. And if I'm wrong,
- 14:45Speaker 2: we can sit down and watch the film anytime these guys,
- 14:49Speaker 2: I tell Big Fred, let's sit down and watch the film.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Cam Jurgens, let's sit down and watch the film. If
- 14:55Speaker 2: I'm wrong, I'll let you know I'm wrong, and I'll
- 14:57Speaker 2: go on my shows and I'll tell everybody. Look, I
- 15:01Speaker 2: was dead wrong with this. I went to watch the
- 15:03Speaker 2: film with the player. He was absolutely right. It's my bad.
- 15:09Speaker 2: But they can't because I've sat down, I played for
- 15:11Speaker 2: twelve years. I've been watching film ever since I left them.
- 15:16Speaker 2: I had become an expert at watching film and seeing
- 15:19Speaker 2: where they need to attack, what they don't need to attack,
- 15:22Speaker 2: what's their biggest weekend. I've done all that. I've sat
- 15:24Speaker 2: down and watched film with the players before. I've done
- 15:27Speaker 2: all that. And if I'm seeing it, and i'm seeing
- 15:30Speaker 2: it and i'm seeing it it's happening. I'm not gonna
- 15:34Speaker 2: say anything. It's not gonna happen. You know what I'm
- 15:36Speaker 2: saying That that hasn't happened. You know what I'm saying.
- 15:38Speaker 2: I keep a little tablet. Whatever goes in this little book,
- 15:41Speaker 2: I'm gonna say it.
- 15:42Speaker 3: If it's not that book, I'm not gonna say it.
- 15:44Speaker 2: But if it's in that book, I'm gonna say it
- 15:46Speaker 2: because I have confidence because I saw it. I'm not
- 15:49Speaker 2: saying something that i'm I saw officsive linemen out there
- 15:53Speaker 2: with handwarmers, the little little things. You can't I can't stop,
- 15:59Speaker 2: you know, thinking about that. You just don't do that.
- 16:02Speaker 2: That's not what offensive linemen are. We are a pure
- 16:05Speaker 2: bread out there butt kickers. We're supposed to be out
- 16:09Speaker 2: there trying to smash my football, not worrying about our
- 16:12Speaker 2: hands being cold. Come on, man, you got too much
- 16:16Speaker 2: other stuff. You gotta worry about this defensive vent. You
- 16:18Speaker 2: gotta worry about this mmy b blitz. You gotta worry
- 16:21Speaker 2: about the snapcut. You gotta worry about where the play
- 16:23Speaker 2: is going. You gotta worry about being in front of
- 16:25Speaker 2: the defender that's going and trying to take your quarterbacks
- 16:29Speaker 2: head off. Too many times I saw too much watching
- 16:31Speaker 2: as an offensive line too many times I saw guys
- 16:34Speaker 2: not finishing plays. Too many times I see the guy
- 16:37Speaker 2: in front of them whipping them and them liking it.
- 16:39Speaker 2: So it's just to me, I'm just saying what I saw.
- 16:43Speaker 2: I'm just telling the truth. The truth is what I saw.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Third quarter rolls around, and all of a sudden, the
- 16:50Speaker 1: Eagles resort back to what your producer was talking about.
- 16:54Speaker 1: They don't show up. They go three and out, three
- 16:55Speaker 1: and out. Do you know at the end of the
- 16:57Speaker 1: third quarter, they're thirty six yards of offense in that
- 17:01Speaker 1: quarter alone, thirty six yards. When you look at that offense,
- 17:06Speaker 1: look at the money invested into two wide receivers, tight
- 17:10Speaker 1: end from tackle to attack, although Lane Johnson wasn't there,
- 17:13Speaker 1: but the offensive line in general. Two hundred and fifty
- 17:16Speaker 1: million dollar quarterback, and all you can generate against a
- 17:20Speaker 1: defense that was ranked near the bottom in terms of
- 17:24Speaker 1: run defense, and again that was missing so many pieces.
- 17:28Speaker 1: It was like these guys were in the witness protection
- 17:30Speaker 1: program and all you could generate was thirty six yards
- 17:34Speaker 1: of offense against his defense. And here's a bigger question
- 17:37Speaker 1: to beat books. Why is your quarterback not running the football?
- 17:41Speaker 1: Why is the quarterback who's not running the football. He
- 17:44Speaker 1: ran the ball three times, and I believe a couple
- 17:46Speaker 1: of them out of desperation. Why was the quarterback not
- 17:50Speaker 1: using his legs one of his biggest assets. Now, if
- 17:53Speaker 1: he was thirty two to thirty three years old, I
- 17:54Speaker 1: can say, Okay, his legs are beat up, his weather.
- 17:57Speaker 1: This is young man still in the prime of his career.
- 18:00Speaker 3: You're not running He's right?

- 21:29Speaker 2: And I thought you saved them the entire season, so
- 21:32Speaker 2: we can run, Yes, yes, we can run.
- 21:36Speaker 3: And then I'm looking.
- 21:37Speaker 2: At you know when he did run a penalty on
- 21:41Speaker 2: this one play, and I mean it was a it
- 21:44Speaker 2: was a you know, it was a TICKI tag call
- 21:46Speaker 2: on Coop Man.
- 21:47Speaker 3: You just but you just can't.
- 21:48Speaker 2: You can't hold man. You see the call in the
- 21:50Speaker 2: game that way, you can't do it. And and then
- 21:52Speaker 2: you know, that's just something you know, I don't understand,
- 21:56Speaker 2: you know, I don't understand how this offense goes through
- 21:59Speaker 2: times where it just they just.
- 22:00Speaker 3: Don't they just don't do anything.
- 22:03Speaker 2: You mean, three and out three and how do you
- 22:06Speaker 2: do that? I mean, how do you maintain that? And
- 22:08Speaker 2: of course you know you're looking at our defense, who
- 22:10Speaker 2: were playing well at the time, They're gonna get tired.
- 22:13Speaker 2: There's a lot of reuss, man, there's a lot of reps.
- 22:17Speaker 2: I mean, I'm gonna lost some words. Man, This to
- 22:20Speaker 2: me was a wasted season. Why because you really had
- 22:26Speaker 2: the personnel to be a Super Bowl champion. Again, you
- 22:30Speaker 2: had everything you needed from an offensive standpoint, and then
- 22:33Speaker 2: you realize your defense was good enough. On the defensive
- 22:36Speaker 2: standside standpoint, you they were good enough too to make
- 22:39Speaker 2: a run, and here we go losing. I thought, at
- 22:43Speaker 2: least I was gonna have a chance to go and
- 22:46Speaker 2: oh go up to Chicago to wind the city.
- 22:49Speaker 3: We didn't even get that far ridiculous, you know.
- 22:54Speaker 1: I think Kyle Shanahan is one of the best offensive
- 22:56Speaker 1: minds in all of football, and not our pre show
- 23:01Speaker 1: that I do with Seth Joyner and Mark Farzette. Seth
- 23:05Speaker 1: said the thing that intrigues him the most is he
- 23:08Speaker 1: wanted to see the matchup between Shanahan and Big Fangail.
- 23:13Speaker 1: And I hate to say it, but I think Shanahan
- 23:16Speaker 1: our coach Fandio Fangio in this game, and no telling,
- 23:19Speaker 1: no telling play more so than you see Jawan Jennings
- 23:25Speaker 1: get the ball on a reverse he pulls up. Here
- 23:29Speaker 1: comes Reed Blank and Ship getting sucked in to Jennings
- 23:32Speaker 1: with the ball, and you see Christian McCaffrey wheel out
- 23:36Speaker 1: of the backfield. You don't think Blake and Ship said,
- 23:38Speaker 1: wait a minute, where's he going? By the time he
- 23:41Speaker 1: realized that it's too late. Touchdown forty nine ers. They
- 23:45Speaker 1: have the lead. And I'll go back to what I
- 23:47Speaker 1: said in my initial statement leading up to this, I
- 23:50Speaker 1: honestly think Kyle Shanahan our coach Fangio in this game,
- 23:52Speaker 1: to be honest, Well, here.
- 23:54Speaker 3: We go again.
- 23:55Speaker 2: Now I watched him. I watched that play about ten times.
- 24:00Speaker 2: First of all, they were in Man the Man. Yep,
- 24:02Speaker 2: because they're in Man the Man. Zack Bond had McCaffrey
- 24:06Speaker 2: one on one. But I can't even get to that.
- 24:08Speaker 2: I can't even get to that yet. I can't even
- 24:11Speaker 2: get to that yet. Green Black and Ship actually had
- 24:14Speaker 2: the tight end who was blocking Man the Man. So
- 24:17Speaker 2: it looks like he looked real bad because he ran
- 24:20Speaker 2: past him. But that wasn't his man. It was Zach
- 24:22Speaker 2: Bond's man.
- 24:22Speaker 3: He was supposed to be. He's supposed to be running
- 24:25Speaker 3: with McCaffrey on the play. Where was he? What's he
- 24:29Speaker 3: doing there?
- 24:30Speaker 2: He was He should have had some popcorn watching the
- 24:33Speaker 2: play like I was watching it.
- 24:35Speaker 3: He was just watching. That's all I'm That's what I'm
- 24:37Speaker 3: saying is man and man.
- 24:39Speaker 2: How are you not watching where your man is going?
- 24:42Speaker 2: That's your man. That's man and man. And oh, by
- 24:44Speaker 2: the way, if it is man, a.
- 24:46Speaker 3: Man who had Jennings Jackson had Jennings.
- 24:51Speaker 2: Jackson didn't even follow his guy to the other side.
- 24:55Speaker 2: Jackson stayed on that side of the field. You can't
- 24:58Speaker 2: stay on that side of the field. That's your man
- 25:00Speaker 2: going and reversed. You got a hall behind over there
- 25:03Speaker 2: to cover your man, but he stayed back and just
- 25:06Speaker 2: watched him go. Are you kidding me? If it's man
- 25:11Speaker 2: to man, cover your man. If your man goes over
- 25:14Speaker 2: and has a drink of water during the play, you
- 25:16Speaker 2: go pour the water in the cup for him. That's
- 25:19Speaker 2: the problem, man, that's the problem the gun. Lack of discipline.
- 25:24Speaker 2: You gotta play discipline football. If christ McCaffrey is your man,
- 25:30Speaker 2: you gotta be in his hip pocket. If his shoelaces untied,
- 25:34Speaker 2: you go time up for him. And I was Zach
- 25:37Speaker 2: Bond's man and he and he did the stand up thing.
- 25:39Speaker 2: He said, yeah, that was my fault. You know, I
- 25:41Speaker 2: was watching the play. It was my fault. And that
- 25:44Speaker 2: stand up by him because he had a man the man.
- 25:47Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying, blanket ch. Everybody helling a
- 25:48Speaker 2: blanket chip like he did. No blanket chip had the
- 25:51Speaker 2: tight end. The tight end was blocking, but he still
- 25:53Speaker 2: saw wheel. And I'm like, oh, he just happened to
- 25:55Speaker 2: be the best player on the field. Maybe I should
- 25:58Speaker 2: go get him. By the time he did, that was
- 26:00Speaker 2: too late. And oh, by the way, that was one
- 26:03Speaker 2: of the best catches I've seen by not just a receiver,
- 26:07Speaker 2: but by anybody that's a better bro. When you catch
- 26:10Speaker 2: a ball over your back like.
- 26:11Speaker 3: This, it's hard.
- 26:12Speaker 2: When you go like this, the ball comes by, you
- 26:15Speaker 2: lose you actually lose the sight of the ball as
- 26:18Speaker 2: pass your eyes. You lose sight of it. But it
- 26:20Speaker 2: went by him and he caught it like he's a
- 26:22Speaker 2: wide receiver.
- 26:23Speaker 1: And you run at full speed exactly your momentums carrying
- 26:27Speaker 1: you forward. You have to bend backwards. You have to
- 26:31Speaker 1: slow yourself up enough to bend backwards. And of course
- 26:33Speaker 1: you don't know how much to win. Really was a
- 26:35Speaker 1: factor in the throw like that because he floated that ball.
- 26:38Speaker 1: He didn't throw it. It was zip on it. Jennings floated
- 26:40Speaker 1: that ball out to him. But yeah, he slowed down
- 26:43Speaker 1: just enough, bent himself to an angle, and still haul
- 26:46Speaker 1: that pass in. That's why he's one of the best
- 26:48Speaker 1: players in the National Football League.
- 26:50Speaker 2: And you lose it because the ball comes by, You
- 26:52Speaker 2: lose the ball until it gets.
- 26:53Speaker 3: In your hands.
- 26:55Speaker 2: That was one of the best catch I've seen by
- 26:57Speaker 2: anybody at that point. That's a hard That's why that's
- 27:00Speaker 2: even hard for wide receivers to do, let alone a
- 27:03Speaker 2: running back.
- 27:04Speaker 3: Yeah, come on, man.
- 27:05Speaker 2: But like I said, Zach Bond on that play, you
- 27:09Speaker 2: missed a great play because you missed a great catch too.
- 27:13Speaker 2: You're supposed to have a man a man, I'm telling you, Man,
- 27:17Speaker 2: if his shoelace is on tied, you're supposed to.
- 27:19Speaker 3: Tie for him. Bro, And he watched him do it,
- 27:21Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying.
- 27:21Speaker 2: But like I said, it was a lot of guys
- 27:23Speaker 2: that's playing and watching on the play, you know, like
- 27:25Speaker 2: I said, you know, if you have Jeron Jennings.
- 27:30Speaker 3: One the man and man one on one.
- 27:31Speaker 2: You gotta follow him the other side of the field.
- 27:33Speaker 2: But yeah, Jackson sat there and let him just go.
- 27:36Speaker 2: You can't do that. You can't do that. You know
- 27:38Speaker 2: what I'm saying, because he just saying he could be
- 27:40Speaker 2: streaming reverse rehese his job, say reverse reverse for tell everybody,
- 27:44Speaker 2: something's fishy's happening.
- 27:47Speaker 3: But there's no golf.
- 27:49Speaker 1: But see, see as I said a few moments ago,
- 27:53Speaker 1: Seth Seth and Mark first that I said, basically they
- 27:56Speaker 1: wanted to see that matchup Shanahan against Fanjail. I came
- 27:59Speaker 1: back this, I said, for me, the opening act is
- 28:02Speaker 1: Robert Salah against Batulo and Sirianni. And what Robert Salah
- 28:08Speaker 1: did with that defense. Do you realize the Eagles had
- 28:13Speaker 1: one hundred nineteen total yards of offense in the second
- 28:15Speaker 1: half after running up one eighty eight. They had one
- 28:18Speaker 1: eight eight in the first half. They had like one
- 28:22Speaker 1: nineteen in the second half, a patched up defense with
- 28:26Speaker 1: no Nick Bosa, no Fred Warner, and no host of
- 28:29Speaker 1: other players. They were down in linebackers number five, seven
- 28:33Speaker 1: and six.
- 28:34Speaker 3: Yeah, but White.
- 28:38Speaker 1: Yeah, a Dallas. You see what I'm saying. They had
- 28:42Speaker 1: one linebacker starting who had forty six snaps all season long.
- 28:45Speaker 1: They brought Kendricks, saying in November he was out. I
- 28:48Speaker 1: don't know what he was doing, working at a restaurant
- 28:51Speaker 1: or something out in California. When they found him brought
- 28:53Speaker 1: him in. Man, they played like they had been together
- 28:56Speaker 1: for months. Robertson roberts sala, I were selling. What he
- 29:01Speaker 1: did to Sirianni and Patullo was a crime in this
- 29:05Speaker 1: particular game.
- 29:06Speaker 3: Yeah, they should.
- 29:07Speaker 2: They should have locked him up because then he definitely
- 29:09Speaker 2: locked our guys up, locked them up.
- 29:12Speaker 3: They couldn't do anything.
- 29:13Speaker 2: Bro And and in the passing you know, you know,
- 29:16Speaker 2: I'm an officer lineman. I don't really don't get into it,
- 29:18Speaker 2: you know, route combination stuff like that, even though I
- 29:21Speaker 2: know him, and I watched enough film that I understand
- 29:24Speaker 2: what your teams are trying to do to them. That's
- 29:26Speaker 2: why I knew that. You know, that's all that the
- 29:29Speaker 2: forty nine ers want to do. They want to attack
- 29:30Speaker 2: the middle of the field. They want to flood the
- 29:32Speaker 2: middle of the field, and they trust brought party to
- 29:35Speaker 2: you know, hit guys in the middle of the field
- 29:37Speaker 2: and that's exactly what he was doing. MM. When we
- 29:40Speaker 2: run our offense, there's no realm or reason of what
- 29:43Speaker 2: we do. We don't set players to set for the
- 29:45Speaker 2: plays up. You know, if you see something, oh man like,
- 29:47Speaker 2: you might run a play where you know, you run
- 29:50Speaker 2: inside zone. When you run that inside zone, you see
- 29:53Speaker 2: that line that come downhill real fast, or what do
- 29:55Speaker 2: you do next?
- 29:56Speaker 3: You run a boot play. You run boot play.
- 29:58Speaker 2: The same action going across soos linebackers bite and going across.
- 30:01Speaker 2: Then you can slip a tight end in behind him
- 30:04Speaker 2: and there you are. You have a you know, on
- 30:06Speaker 2: a on a on a drag rope. Now you're gonna
- 30:08Speaker 2: hit him for like fifteen yards on that drag rock
- 30:10Speaker 2: because those linebackers are saw aggressive coming downhill. That's what
- 30:13Speaker 2: you do. You set up place to set up other plays.
- 30:16Speaker 3: Now. I keep people I keep hearing people talking.
- 30:18Speaker 2: About we want to go in and and and change,
- 30:22Speaker 2: you know, the officer coordinator to what you're gonna change
- 30:26Speaker 2: the officer coordinator. But whatever coordinator comes in there, they're
- 30:31Speaker 2: gonna run next Yearana's offense. Yeah, you're changing them for
- 30:35Speaker 2: what you might as well just keep Kevin Petula and
- 30:38Speaker 2: give him a real chance to call plays because he
- 30:41Speaker 2: wasn't calling plays that that.
- 30:43Speaker 3: That were his. I mean, they're calling next offense.
- 30:49Speaker 2: But also give him a chance to run an offense
- 30:52Speaker 2: with a healthy offensive line. Those guys were not healthy
- 30:55Speaker 2: and they were playing like they were decrepit. So you know,
- 30:57Speaker 2: it's it's it's hard to you know, really get us
- 31:00Speaker 2: sense on how.
- 31:00Speaker 3: Good this office could be.
- 31:02Speaker 2: That officer line was, I mean, they were bro I
- 31:07Speaker 2: sat back, and you know, I checked guys out. You know,
- 31:09Speaker 2: I watched I watched guys, you know, and and I
- 31:13Speaker 2: was watching some of the officer line. It took them
- 31:15Speaker 2: like five minutes just to get up out their seats
- 31:18Speaker 2: the day after the game. That's how hurt these guys are.
- 31:22Speaker 2: And they that was a yeoman's effort of them going
- 31:24Speaker 2: out there and battling the way they battled. I got
- 31:28Speaker 2: nothing but respect for that office line, them guys going
- 31:31Speaker 2: in and battling like they battled. But Cam Cam was
- 31:36Speaker 2: the walking wounded. Congratulates going to the to the Pro Bowl.
- 31:40Speaker 2: But that's that's you know, that's that's the naming game.
- 31:43Speaker 2: You know, that's that's just you know, that's popularity game.
- 31:46Speaker 2: You know, he's a popular guy. So they named it
- 31:48Speaker 2: to the Pro Bowl. It wasn't because he played this
- 31:50Speaker 2: year like he didn't.
- 31:51Speaker 3: Play like a Pro Bowl all. But he didn't play
- 31:54Speaker 3: like the starter.
- 31:55Speaker 2: We stopped running a toochs push because he couldn't get
- 31:57Speaker 2: down low enough and get lever on the play.
- 32:01Speaker 3: He would get blasted back. He was so unhealthy.
- 32:03Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying.
- 32:03Speaker 3: He couldn't. He couldn't. He couldn't.
- 32:05Speaker 2: He couldn't do anything about They couldn't run it because
- 32:07Speaker 2: he would get stood up and pushed back. So to
- 32:12Speaker 2: take you and blame all this on Kevin Battola, I
- 32:15Speaker 2: don't know, man, you know just like the last player. Yeah,
- 32:18Speaker 2: you're running cover four. Well not see, you're talking about
- 32:21Speaker 2: getting our coach. They called the timeout. Yep, all the
- 32:25Speaker 2: time out. You could see that solo Solad was given
- 32:28Speaker 2: all our blitz on the play. He was going to
- 32:30Speaker 2: all our blitzing. So they called the time out. They
- 32:33Speaker 2: brought in the play. This is the play we're gonna have,
- 32:36Speaker 2: This is what we want. This in all our blitz.
- 32:38Speaker 2: This is gonna kill him. What does Robert Salad do?
- 32:42Speaker 2: He calls cover four quarters defense. That means each you know,
- 32:47Speaker 2: the cornerback has a quarter, the safety has a quarter,
- 32:49Speaker 2: safety has a quarter, and the UH and the other
- 32:52Speaker 2: cornerback has a quarter, and your two linebackers.
- 32:55Speaker 3: They got to get back into the curl.
- 32:57Speaker 2: You know, the curl areas in the same areas.
- 33:01Speaker 3: Kenvin did.
- 33:02Speaker 2: So when he threw that last pass, it's the worst
- 33:05Speaker 2: pass for that type of defense.
- 33:07Speaker 3: Number one, because.
- 33:08Speaker 2: It was almost looked like he was triple team at
- 33:11Speaker 2: the point where he was supposed to catch it. And
- 33:13Speaker 2: then Kendrick gets back and does a hell of a
- 33:15Speaker 2: player knocks it out because he had to get He
- 33:18Speaker 2: was all like he was playing Tampa too. He got
- 33:20Speaker 2: back that DP, So I mean SLA check. I won
- 33:26Speaker 2: that play because I changed it up and you thought
- 33:29Speaker 2: I was gonna blitch it.
- 33:32Speaker 1: You played in the league twelve years. You played on
- 33:34Speaker 1: losing teams, You played on teams that made it to
- 33:37Speaker 1: the playoffs, and you played on the team that won
- 33:40Speaker 1: the Super Bowl. Anything short of winning the Super Bowl,
- 33:44Speaker 1: especially when your season ends prematurely, when a lot of
- 33:47Speaker 1: people expected you to go a little bit further, how
- 33:49Speaker 1: long does it take you to get something like that
- 33:51Speaker 1: out of your system?
- 33:52Speaker 2: You never do, not until you get there again, not
- 33:56Speaker 2: until you get there again. This will be the hungry
- 34:00Speaker 2: dog trait that they needed this year. Next year you'll
- 34:03Speaker 2: see a hungry team. Like it's almost like it's the
- 34:05Speaker 2: ev and flow with them. Yeah, you get to the
- 34:08Speaker 2: playoffs the first year, get knocked out in the wildcar round,
- 34:13Speaker 2: go back down the very next year, you go to
- 34:17Speaker 2: the super Bowl. You get beat but you're on the mountaintop. Yeah,
- 34:21Speaker 2: next year you go back down. You lose, you know,
- 34:24Speaker 2: you win ten games and then you lose, you lose
- 34:29Speaker 2: in the playoffs. They go back down. They go back again.
- 34:33Speaker 2: They win a super Bowl. This next year they go
- 34:37Speaker 2: back down. Now her down. So if you look at
- 34:40Speaker 2: what they're supposed to do next, they're supposed to go
- 34:42Speaker 2: to the super Bowl next year, So they'll have that
- 34:45Speaker 2: bad taste in their mouth, and hungry dog will be
- 34:47Speaker 2: running faster for them.
- 34:48Speaker 3: Next they'll be hungry again.
- 34:50Speaker 2: They'll have that that that chip on their shoulder, that
- 34:52Speaker 2: proverbial chip on the other rocket Gibraltar on their shoulder
- 34:55Speaker 2: next year because they know what it is to lose,
- 34:57Speaker 2: how they lose. And of course we as FA and media,
- 35:01Speaker 2: we're not.
- 35:01Speaker 3: Gonna let them live it down.
- 35:05Speaker 1: Yeah, this has been a season indeed, one of a perplexment, uh,
- 35:09Speaker 1: one of frustration, one of anger, and one of other
- 35:13Speaker 1: shocked the way they bowed out in their first round.
- 35:15Speaker 1: Not many of us said, Okay, they're gonna bea Chicago
- 35:17Speaker 1: and they're gonna beat the Rams. But everybody and their
- 35:20Speaker 1: mother thought they would beat the San Francisco forty nine ers,
- 35:23Speaker 1: and lo and.
- 35:23Speaker 3: Behold, it didn't happen.
- 35:25Speaker 1: We've got a lot of time between now and the
- 35:28Speaker 1: time the next season rolls around. There's off season, there's
- 35:31Speaker 1: free agency, there's the draft, there's OTA's there's training camp.
- 35:35Speaker 1: We're gonna have a lot to talk about this off
- 35:37Speaker 1: season as we sit back and watch, wait, wait to
- 35:41Speaker 1: see what Howie Roseman and the Eagle front office does
- 35:44Speaker 1: to try to make this a better product. In twenty
- 35:46Speaker 1: twenty six, for my man, Barry Brooks, I'm Derek Gunner.
- 35:49Speaker 1: This has been Birds Weekly, presented by the Inside the
- 35:52Speaker 1: Burst Network, Solong.
