- 0:39SPEAKER_01: Welcome in, everybody, to the Talk and Tech Podcast, powered by the Nation, part of the Nation Podcast Network.
- 0:44SPEAKER_01: I'm your host, Steven Rodriguez, my co-host Tristan McGonagall.
- 0:47SPEAKER_01: Tristan, we have to do a very important thing to start off this episode.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: Steven, are you talking about the song?
- 0:55SPEAKER_01: Of course I'm talking about the song.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: We're playing the song.
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: Please play the song.
- 1:00unknown: Red Raider coming at you.
- 1:03SPEAKER_07: Riding through the day with a fury of Texas win.
- 1:09SPEAKER_07: Red Raider coming at you.
- 1:11SPEAKER_07: What a beautiful time.
- 1:13SPEAKER_07: The Texas Tech Red Raiders riding right again.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: The possum delivered.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: Your Texas Tech Red Raiders have won a football game.
- 1:26SPEAKER_02: All hail the stadium possum, dude.
- 1:29SPEAKER_02: We all knew I think we all knew as soon as that possum was on the field that our fate was sealed, that we were gonna win this game.
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:36SPEAKER_01: It's it's a rally animal.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: I mean, we had the fox in 2013.
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: We have the opossum here in 2020.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: Is it everything o possum?
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: It's just possum.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: Now, what's the difference?
- 1:47SPEAKER_01: It's just what's the difference?
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: So why is there o possum?
- 1:51SPEAKER_02: Why is that theory?
- 1:52SPEAKER_02: It's just you don't you don't pronounce the o.
- 1:54SPEAKER_02: What silent?
- 1:55SPEAKER_02: The O is silent.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: Why why why even have it?
- 1:59SPEAKER_02: Classic vowel move, right?
- 2:01SPEAKER_02: The uh the O vowel that is silent, right?
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: The O that starts the word is not those are not vowels, right?
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: No, those are vowels.
- 2:11SPEAKER_01: They are okay.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: Are you kidding me?
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: You teach our youth and you didn't know O was a vowel.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: Hey, I'm not an English teacher, okay?
- 2:19SPEAKER_01: Okay, fair.
- 2:20SPEAKER_02: No, I'm a Spanish teacher.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: I would I would hate to be a child learning Spanish from you.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: Hola.
- 2:29SPEAKER_01: Oh, hola, how you doing?
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: Um Texas Tech wins a football game 35 to 24 on a Thursday night against TCU.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: First off, the possum rules.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: Second off, the crowd was surprisingly great.
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: All mean shout out.
- 2:47SPEAKER_01: Shout out to Lubbock and to the students because they showed out on a Thursday, which I did not expect them to do.
- 2:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, dude, dude, that was like the most impressive part, dude.
- 2:56SPEAKER_02: I remember I remember how I turned it on uh and I was just shocked because I I straight up thought, yeah, maybe it'll be like 75% or something, you know, at best, and the students you know will fill up to like 80%.
- 3:07SPEAKER_02: But dude, no, it was packed, it was packed, and the atmosphere was lively, my man.
- 3:12SPEAKER_02: And I don't know if we have to thank the possum for this or just that we have an awesome fan base, it's hard to choose.
- 3:17SPEAKER_02: See, now you said a possum that time, so it's it's just possum.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: That little guy got dragged off the field just like the TCU horn frogs got dragged off.
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: Um we need a we need to release a new animal every single game.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: Back to back to the possum conversation.
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: Um Native City.
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: I think I think it'd be great.
- 3:39SPEAKER_01: I think getting a new sort of animal.
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: I mean, obviously the prairie dog is the next best choice.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, right.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: Uh but but I think Texas Tech should really start and think hard about releasing a brand new animal every single game.
- 3:52SPEAKER_01: Now, it could be a beaver, it could be that's not local.
- 3:56SPEAKER_01: It doesn't have to be local.
- 3:57SPEAKER_02: Stephen here.
- 3:58SPEAKER_01: No, I gotta you're gonna run out of animals eventually if you're gonna do this for every game.
- 4:02SPEAKER_02: I gotta, I got like a power rankings going on.
- 4:04SPEAKER_02: Okay, go ahead.
- 4:04SPEAKER_02: Go ahead.
- 4:05SPEAKER_02: Give us some tiers.
- 4:06SPEAKER_02: You can start with the critters, you know.
- 4:07SPEAKER_02: You start out with the critters before you start getting getting crazy and desperate to get large animals.
- 4:11SPEAKER_02: So you're gonna well, if we're going native species, obviously you get the sod poodle, you get the prairie dog out there.
- 4:16SPEAKER_02: Um, he's gonna go scrambling around.
- 4:18SPEAKER_02: That's I feel like you gotta save that for a big rank matchup because there's no animal that probably personifies uh Lubbock in animal form better than the prairie dog.
- 4:26SPEAKER_01: Um you might have to you might have to save that for the first time Texas returns to tech to stack and plays whenever that happens.
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: Or yeah, A and M.
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you save it for that game.
- 4:35SPEAKER_02: For sure.
- 4:35SPEAKER_02: And no, that's that's that's exactly where my head was out too.
- 4:37SPEAKER_02: All right, second, you can you can go to the avians, you can you can go uh you can go to a roadrunner, a roadrunner would be a good pick.
- 4:42SPEAKER_02: Uh roadrunner would be good.
- 4:44SPEAKER_02: Really hard to catch, though.
- 4:46SPEAKER_02: Holy cow, that would be an issue.
- 4:47SPEAKER_01: That would be comedy seeing seeing like four four of those Texas Tech people trying to catch a roadrun.
- 4:55SPEAKER_02: Third, okay, you can go back to small mammalians, you can get some armadillas out there.
- 4:59SPEAKER_02: All right, okay.
- 5:00SPEAKER_02: We like that.
- 5:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the the opossum on the half shell out there rolling around.
- 5:04SPEAKER_02: Um, all right.
- 5:05SPEAKER_02: So number four, then you can start you can start getting the yotes out there.
- 5:09SPEAKER_02: You can get a yot out there.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: That's risky because those those effers could bite.
- 5:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they can snap a little bit.
- 5:15SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's you're not dangerous yet, but uh yo, uh yo, people will be people will have to be hesitant.
- 5:19SPEAKER_02: People will be like, get it out of the way.
- 5:21SPEAKER_02: Um, all right, and and last, uh no, actually I have two more.
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: Now we have to go to large animals here.
- 5:27SPEAKER_02: Um, the next up is going to be the prong horn.
- 5:30SPEAKER_02: Okay, so you're gonna you're gonna get the pronghorn antelope out there.
- 5:33SPEAKER_02: Extremely hard to catch.
- 5:35SPEAKER_02: Okay, it's the fastest animal on the North American continent.
- 5:38SPEAKER_02: So you're gonna have some real issues going on there.
- 5:40SPEAKER_02: And last but not least, you got a buffalo rolling out there.
- 5:42SPEAKER_02: Oh my god.
- 5:43SPEAKER_02: That that you're gonna obviously have to bring a steer steer truck in for everything, and uh it's gonna be like a Ralphie, but not nearly as fun.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: So it's that's like a three-hour delay right there with both of those animals, because if you just have this antelope going around the whole stadium, no one's gonna you could put 50 people on that.
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: I don't know if they're catching that thing.
- 6:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, but that's the power rankings, though, in my opinion.
- 6:04SPEAKER_02: Um, and I think that's this is a great place to go from here.
- 6:07SPEAKER_02: And I didn't even include squirrels.
- 6:08SPEAKER_02: I mean, I think squirrel could just be kind of like a filler.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, squirrels could be good.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: I mean, you could throw that against like a UCF or like a Cincinnati or something like that.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: But like once we start getting into like 2026-2028 kind of area, we're gonna have to really just like kind of bring in some animals.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: I'm talking about like really out.
- 6:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, you're gonna have to bring some porcupines, bring an anteater, you know, yeah, maybe risk it and bring a crocodile.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: Like, you want to get crazy, yeah.
- 6:34SPEAKER_02: Maybe mountain lion, the native to the North American continent, technically Texas, same with the same with black bears.
- 6:39SPEAKER_02: So yeah, you can you can really you can really figure it out.
- 6:42SPEAKER_02: No, we gotta get a raccoon out in there.
- 6:44SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes, that's a good call.
- 6:46SPEAKER_02: Good call.
- 6:47SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 6:48SPEAKER_02: All right, that was way too long of a segment than it should have been.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: Maybe, but the people enjoyed it, I hope.
- 6:53SPEAKER_01: Uh we're just speaking for them, but okay.
- 6:55SPEAKER_01: Speaking of bears, Baron Morton coming back, he's back.
- 7:02SPEAKER_01: Three total touchdowns in this game.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: I think the biggest thing here is he looked healthy.
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: Joey McGuire did not lie to us when he said he thought Barron Morton was 90% because he looked 100% out there.
- 7:14SPEAKER_01: Dropping dimes, he was running, he was escaping the pocket, he was fast, he was quick.
- 7:20SPEAKER_01: I enjoyed Barron Morton very much this game.
- 7:22SPEAKER_02: I thought you were about to say, say Baylor's really bad because Baylor is really bad.
- 7:26SPEAKER_02: But well, that too.
- 7:27SPEAKER_02: This wasn't we're talking about better bear, and that is the quarterback bear.
- 7:31SPEAKER_02: And yes, dude, 100%, man.
- 7:32SPEAKER_02: And even it this is obviously a kid that uh apparently isn't in the even at full strength right now.
- 7:37SPEAKER_02: If this is him at Joey Maguire's 90% in quotation marks, holy shit, we have a good quarterback.
- 7:43SPEAKER_02: And he really he really showed it uh on uh Thursday night.
- 7:46SPEAKER_02: So he was everything that we want him to be.
- 7:48SPEAKER_02: And obviously, you you can think that he only gets better, he only gets better from here, but he got the job done.
- 7:54SPEAKER_02: Um, any lacking in performance wasn't necessarily his to the fault of him.
- 7:58SPEAKER_02: So uh he, I mean, what more can you ask?
- 8:00SPEAKER_02: I mean, when he got a dub against a team that's been kind of owning your number these past few years.
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: He was precise, he got rid of the ball when he needed to, he did not have a turnover.
- 8:09SPEAKER_01: That is what you need from your quarterback position to win these football games, and he did it.
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: And I'm very happy that he is back.
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: I, you know, a lot of people in my family and friends are kind of grieving for me with how this Texas Tech football season has gone.
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: And thank you.
- 8:27SPEAKER_01: I and I appreciate it.
- 8:28SPEAKER_01: Uh but I I've told them all hey, you're not gonna win a game when you have a true freshman starting at quarterback for Texas Tech at this position that we are.
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: It's unfair that we've had so many QB injuries, but we do have a chance in pretty much every game this season if Baron Morton is full strength and playing quarterback for you.
- 8:50SPEAKER_01: That's my thoughts on the matter.
- 8:53SPEAKER_02: No, 100%, man.
- 8:54SPEAKER_02: And obviously, people are kind of running back through the schedule saying, uh, are we do we have more dubs on the board if Barron Morton is starting the whole time?
- 9:01SPEAKER_02: I think that argument can obviously be made for the uh K-State and BYU game 100%.
- 9:06SPEAKER_02: Um, but obviously, whenever you dig further back into the Tyler Shuck games, you and I have already discussed this off camera that you know it's it's a harder conversation to have, but it's a it's I think it's a good sign that people are asking those questions because it shows the confidence in your quarterback that uh you know you have the right guy moving forward.
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and it's fine to have those conversations.
- 9:26SPEAKER_01: I think they're a little bit null and void at this point because it really doesn't you can't go back and play those games with Baron Morton, so why harp on him?
- 9:33SPEAKER_01: That's kind of my stand on the subject.
- 9:36SPEAKER_01: Because we lost.
- 9:37SPEAKER_01: We did, we lost.
- 9:38SPEAKER_01: And hey, guess what?
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: Baron Morton could have gotten injured those games.
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: You know, you're making up numbers at that point, acting like he would have produced the same amount that we did that Chuck did, at least against Wyoming and against Oregon.
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: I I just think it's uh not a point worth talking about anymore, and it's just kind of is what it is at this point.
- 9:59SPEAKER_01: And it's unfortunate that we have all these injuries and we have to talk about these scenarios, but hey, Baron's back at the moment.
- 10:07SPEAKER_01: That's all we're happy about.
- 10:09SPEAKER_01: And uh we got three more games to end the year, hopefully, one, maybe two more.
- 10:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, absolutely, dude.
- 10:17SPEAKER_02: Um, and the good news is we have this kid for another two years.
- 10:20SPEAKER_02: I know you think that perhaps you know it he could be do so well and go to the NFL.
- 10:24SPEAKER_02: We've had that conversation before, but I think realistically we have two more years with Baron Morton, along with uh very talented quarterbacks backing him up here in the in the chamber, getting loaded up into the uh classes here.
- 10:35SPEAKER_02: Um, but yeah, dude, uh I'm glad to finally have some confidence in a Texas Tech quarterback again.
- 10:40SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's it's our it's our position, you know.
- 10:42SPEAKER_02: It's Texas Tech always has a gunslinger, and it's good to have a real gunslinger out there again.
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, it's always it's always just fun to watch him.
- 10:49SPEAKER_01: Um, Taj Brooks continues to be Taj Brooks.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: Uh became Texas Tech's first thousand yard rusher since DeAndre Washington did it.
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: Good company.
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: Great company.
- 11:00SPEAKER_01: Taj Brooks has been an absolute menace.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: He's he's had a thousand yards with three games left in the year.
- 11:06SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's stupid.
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: That's all time great.
- 11:09SPEAKER_01: He has been on an absolute tear this entire year.
- 11:14SPEAKER_01: And now, what's more impressive about this is that the last few games, teams are have prepared for this.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: They know that we're gonna hand the ball off 25 plus times to Tosh Brooks, and he's getting loaded boxes in there, and he's still finding a way to be productive and score touchdowns and get 130 plus yards in the game.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: It's honestly astounding from looking at Tosh Brooks the first you know three years he was here.
- 11:39SPEAKER_01: Obviously, he's splitting carries with Sir Roderick Thompson, so you're not gonna get the kind same kind of production that he had this year, but to go from what he was to what he is now is amazing.
- 11:53SPEAKER_02: No, absolutely, man.
- 11:54SPEAKER_02: He's really stepped up and has become everything you've ever wanted out of him.
- 11:57SPEAKER_02: Um, I like you said, dude, we literally haven't had a quarter a running back this productive since one of the all-time greats in DeAndre Washington, who went on to play in the NFL.
- 12:07SPEAKER_02: Um, so it's it's really great company to be in, man.
- 12:11SPEAKER_02: I like seeing us light up the board at this position that we're not really known for.
- 12:15SPEAKER_02: And hopefully that kind of sparks some interest for the recruits coming in.
- 12:18SPEAKER_02: You kind of set the precedent ahead ahead of time with that.
- 12:21SPEAKER_02: But dude, it's just it's so great to be so dangerous in both forms of moving the ball down the field.
- 12:26SPEAKER_02: I mean, you know that you've got a gunslinger at quarterback again, you're gonna scorch him through the air.
- 12:30SPEAKER_02: But you know, if you need to rely on this tank that just somehow gets through these piles and gets you at least five yards of carry, it's just invaluable to winning football games.
- 12:38SPEAKER_02: Um, and obviously it's shown that you can't have just that.
- 12:42SPEAKER_02: You can't just have just that in wood football games where we look at like BYU and K State, but it's all about balance, and it's good to see us finally trying to balance it out and get the perfect formula going here uh to round out the year on offense.
- 12:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, definitely.
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: One more thing to point out on offense Koy Akin.
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: He has arrived, red shirt freshman, eight receptions, 78 yards.
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: He led the team.
- 13:04SPEAKER_01: Um, didn't catch any touchdowns, but that was uh that was Miles Price and Dre McRae, who both long bombs, great passes from Morton.
- 13:11SPEAKER_01: But um Koy Akin, the uh, you know, Joey talked up a lot of guys in the offseason, but they did hit on Koy Akin quite a few times.
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: Uh, injured at the start of the year, didn't play in the first few games.
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: He's finally got his feet under him now.
- 13:25SPEAKER_01: He's gonna be a guy uh for the next several years for Texas Tech if he does stay.
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: And um, I'm excited.
- 13:32SPEAKER_02: Shoot man to have a redshirt freshman putting up these kinds of numbers, 78 yards, eight receiving uh catches there, dude.
- 13:38SPEAKER_02: That's insane.
- 13:39SPEAKER_02: Like, and this is just a young kid, not even 20 yet, huh?
- 13:42SPEAKER_02: So we got we got bright things ahead of us here with him.
- 13:45SPEAKER_02: Um, and I just like that we have this uh this duo going on with this chemistry connection between Morton and Aincan um go going forward.
- 13:52SPEAKER_02: Hopefully, whenever he makes in even more amazing wide receivers that are coming in, dude.
- 13:56SPEAKER_02: Like the I I know it's it's I don't want to just sit just sit here and talk about the future, but the future is so bright with this unit, especially with the ages we're at here.
- 14:03SPEAKER_02: Things just seem to be lining up.
- 14:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, one of the downfalls of it's it's honestly a positive from a negative of having all these injuries and everything like that.
- 14:13SPEAKER_01: We're seeing a lot of young guys play, and uh it's fun because we're seeing them be productive and kind of grow into their role a little bit.
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: Um, obviously, some of those guys are not there yet, and you shouldn't really expect them to be there.
- 14:24SPEAKER_01: But for uh Aiken to be doing the stuff that he's doing is is a really cool sight to see.
- 14:29SPEAKER_02: Well, I just say, man.
- 14:31SPEAKER_02: Um uh so uh I think I I kind of want to just bounce back to Rendex real quick.
- 14:35SPEAKER_02: Well, what was going on with Valdez the other day?
- 14:37SPEAKER_01: Well, he just had a he had a boneheaded mistake.
- 14:39SPEAKER_01: I mean, he kicked he kicked the guy while he was down.
- 14:42SPEAKER_01: It's it's a stupid mistake, it's not something you should do.
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: I'm sure the coaches got on him.
- 14:46SPEAKER_01: He didn't play much after he made that.
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: Um got the young sportsman like.
- 14:50SPEAKER_01: I mean, they did what they needed to do.
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: Sometimes young guys makes make mistakes like that.
- 14:54SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's it's just something, it's a it's a mental game as much as it is a physical game sometimes, and uh these guys have to be smarter.
- 15:01SPEAKER_01: And luckily that didn't cost you the game.
- 15:03SPEAKER_01: It was kind of early on.
- 15:05SPEAKER_01: Um, but yeah, it's it's definitely something you can't do.
- 15:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it was just it was it was just odd, you know.
- 15:10SPEAKER_02: And like you said, you'll you don't really see the field after that.
- 15:12SPEAKER_02: Because when we're looking at the stat sheet, it says the same story.
- 15:15SPEAKER_02: So it was just it was just a bizarre sort of situation with him there.
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and he's got to watch out because he's got two other running backs behind him that are up pretty good and a little bigger.
- 15:24SPEAKER_01: And um, you know, if he wants to uh you know be the guy next year, if Taj decides to move on after this year, I think he does have another year if he wants to come back.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: But after this kind of season, you probably shouldn't expect that.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: Um, you need a new lead running back next year, and Valdez is set in stone to do that, but you can't be doing that kind of junk again.
- 15:43SPEAKER_02: No doubt.
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: Um defensively, I thought we played pretty good.
- 15:47SPEAKER_01: Um, Rabbit had two interceptions, probably could have had five.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: Uh honestly, he had he dropped two of them, and I think he had another one in his general vicinity.
- 15:57SPEAKER_01: Um Baskerville played pretty good.
- 16:00SPEAKER_01: Um you know, a couple big hits.
- 16:03SPEAKER_01: Uh the tackling was nice to see.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: Uh a lot of players earlier in the season were really bouncing off our defenders at times, uh, breaking away on what should be easy tackles, and it really didn't seem like we did that again against TCU.
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: We kind of held it down.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: It really only took one dude on one dude, and we stopped him.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: Um, and that was that was cool.
- 16:23SPEAKER_01: It was good.
- 16:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it was funny looking at Twitter and everyone like it seemed like everyone in Unison was tweeting, are we the team with the most miss interceptions in the entire country?
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think Rabbid missed three easy ones this game.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: I mean, he really could have had five.
- 16:37SPEAKER_02: And that that could have really just sealed the deal instead of letting TCU get really back into it and giving us a big scare there in the in the third quarter.
- 16:44SPEAKER_02: You know, take through university hasn't been very take through university this year.
- 16:48SPEAKER_02: It really hasn't.
- 16:49SPEAKER_01: No, and that's part because we haven't had much of a pass rush.
- 16:51SPEAKER_01: And I think we did get to Hoover a couple times against TCU.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: We didn't finish the job, didn't get any sacks this game, but you know, we did show we pressured it a bit, and that makes them vulnerable for uh mistakes and interceptions and all that kind of stuff.
- 17:06SPEAKER_01: And we just haven't had that sort of push from that edge rushing unit, and that's kind of a lot of the reason for that.
- 17:13SPEAKER_02: No, absolutely.
- 17:14SPEAKER_02: I mean, at the end of the day, I think the defense played well enough.
- 17:16SPEAKER_02: Uh, because it was definitely on offense to kind of pull their heads out of their behinds and get some more points on the board.
- 17:21SPEAKER_02: Um, so yeah, like like I said, dude, all season I've had very little beeps with the way this unit has been playing.
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 17:29SPEAKER_01: Um we did well stopping the run.
- 17:31SPEAKER_01: Their running back, he did score two touchdowns, but he really only averaged like three yards of carry.
- 17:36SPEAKER_01: So over overall, I thought we played pretty well.
- 17:39SPEAKER_01: We kept Hoover in check.
- 17:40SPEAKER_01: I mean, I think Hoover's bad.
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: I think he's a pretty bad quarterback, and uh, but you stopped him and you made him uh make some mistakes and throw some interceptions.
- 17:49SPEAKER_01: So that was good to see.
- 17:50SPEAKER_01: Uh, but overall, good dub.
- 17:52SPEAKER_01: You needed this really badly, and uh, you're still in contention here for a bowl game, which is yeah, yeah, of course.
- 17:58SPEAKER_02: And it's it's so good to put one over uh TCU in-state rival.
- 18:01SPEAKER_02: Um, and especially a team that's really had you for a lot of years.
- 18:04SPEAKER_02: I swear to you, sorry, every time we tune a turn on TCU, there's a good chance they're gonna be destroying us.
- 18:08SPEAKER_02: And apparently we this is our first win over them uh since 2013.
- 18:11SPEAKER_02: So uh we just need an animal.
- 18:13SPEAKER_05: We need an animal to run on the field.
- 18:15SPEAKER_05: Yeah, okay.
- 18:15SPEAKER_02: So yeah, it's like with that our home record, obviously, through the past 10 years of coaches have been terrible.
- 18:20SPEAKER_02: Um, and it looks like there's some already some frustrations building up in Fort Worth with uh the way Dykes has been proceeding through the season.
- 18:27SPEAKER_02: And honestly, you don't hate to see it, you know, a former Red Raider going to a rival school like that, especially the son of the most beloved coach in school history.
- 18:36SPEAKER_02: So it's it's kind of funny to see, especially whenever he hires a Bryals.
- 18:40SPEAKER_02: It's good to see that Biles is absolutely floundering because you deserve it whenever you hire uh someone from that from that uh tree, in my opinion.
- 18:47SPEAKER_01: That's the funniest part is is Bryals being really the guy that is getting quote unquote shot on the most.
- 18:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, for sure.
- 18:56SPEAKER_01: And he's and he should.
- 18:57SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's not a good dude, he was part of that whole thing, and um, you know, it's pretty ridiculous that Dykes did sign him.
- 19:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he had the most infamous comment from Baylor, yeah.
- 19:06SPEAKER_01: So yeah, so it's good to see him lose.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: Um and the only annoying part of TCU being as bad as they are is the people from last year saying, you know, the Big 12 is the Big 12, they didn't deserve to have anybody in the championship and all that, and it's like, dude, they went and beat Michigan, so I really don't want to hear it for that.
- 19:24SPEAKER_02: That's true.
- 19:24SPEAKER_01: That's yeah, that's true.
- 19:25SPEAKER_01: They beat Michigan, that's all you need in that argument.
- 19:28SPEAKER_01: But um you want to talk some Kansas?
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 19:32SPEAKER_02: I want to get beaned.
- 19:33SPEAKER_02: Just kidding.
- 19:34SPEAKER_02: I don't want to get beaned.
- 19:35SPEAKER_02: I want to bean them.
- 19:36SPEAKER_01: We do not want to get beaned.
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: I want I want to bean the bean.
- 19:41SPEAKER_01: In Lawrence, Kansas.
- 19:43SPEAKER_01: Texas Tech plays their first 11 a.m.
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: game of the season.
- 19:48SPEAKER_01: Oh no, in an away game, please no.
- 19:51SPEAKER_01: Who would have thought that Texas Tech would play their first 11 a.m.
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: game in week 11 of the college football season?
- 20:01SPEAKER_02: Dude, for real, man.
- 20:02SPEAKER_02: I I'm just happy that it's an away game.
- 20:04SPEAKER_02: I'm glad that our uh our students haven't had to deal with battling a hangover at 9 a.m.
- 20:08SPEAKER_02: to get to the to the football game.
- 20:10SPEAKER_02: So I'm very pleased about that.
- 20:11SPEAKER_02: And dude, especially whenever our team is this hot, uh, that Kansas is, you know, they're number 16, they're seven and two, dude.
- 20:19SPEAKER_02: Kansas.
- 20:20SPEAKER_02: I want that record.
- 20:22SPEAKER_02: They're not Kansas.
- 20:24SPEAKER_01: We're not Kansas anymore.
- 20:26SPEAKER_01: They're not Kansas anymore.
- 20:28SPEAKER_01: Um they are a good team.
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: That's not a football team.
- 20:33SPEAKER_02: I'm not saying the booth is this like super hostile place to go into, but I I am glad that's the thing.
- 20:38SPEAKER_02: It's definitely better.
- 20:39SPEAKER_02: It's definitely better.
- 20:41SPEAKER_02: It's better, but that that place is just a uh uh more concrete football, uh high school football stadium at the end of the day.
- 20:47SPEAKER_02: Um, but let's go in and get business done there in Lawrence.
- 20:52SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be tough.
- 20:54SPEAKER_01: I'm not gonna lie to you.
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: It's going to be tough to beat Kansas in their home stadium, which is getting a renovation.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: I think that project was officially approved for them, and that's good for that school because uh, like you said, they play in a high school stadium uh right now, at best, right now.
- 21:11SPEAKER_01: So um a little bit about Kansas, obviously, a run first team.
- 21:15SPEAKER_01: They have two awesome running backs and a quarterback who can take off when needed, probably might be the fastest guy on their whole team.
- 21:23SPEAKER_01: So you know, it's uh stopping the run, and that's something luckily for us, Texas Tech has been pretty good at, yeah.
- 21:30SPEAKER_01: Not necessarily stopping the quarterback run, but stopping the actual run um from their side.
- 21:36SPEAKER_01: So uh I guess that's a good thing for Texas Tech, but you're playing probably the best running uh combo trio that you're gonna play.
- 21:46SPEAKER_02: Well, I'd rather that than them scorching us through the air.
- 21:49SPEAKER_02: We have more issues with that than on the ground.
- 21:51SPEAKER_02: So I'm I am glad that we are gonna be battling uh uh a running back sort of based offense than a than an air team.
- 21:58SPEAKER_02: And because I I I really think you know we got Both.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: So I think that gives us a bit of an edge here.
- 22:02SPEAKER_02: You know, if we can lock down the running game, I feel like our offense is going to do fine against our defense then and getting some points on the board.
- 22:08SPEAKER_02: I feel like we're starting to get our rhythm back now that we have Baron Morton back.
- 22:11SPEAKER_02: Now that you know we have Taj Brooks and uh the team seems to be getting healthier.
- 22:15SPEAKER_02: I think that we are going to do fine in Lawrence.
- 22:19SPEAKER_02: I think we're gonna go get it done.
- 22:20SPEAKER_02: You sound a little nervous.
- 22:21SPEAKER_02: I see the apprehension in your face and in your voice.
- 22:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the good listeners can see my face as well.
- 22:27SPEAKER_01: So uh I'm glad they can.
- 22:30SPEAKER_01: No, it's I felt the same way.
- 22:33SPEAKER_01: And then I watched the Iowa State game because Kansas did the complete opposite of what they're good at, and they were good at the other parts of it.
- 22:41SPEAKER_01: So they kind of shredded Iowa State in the air.
- 22:44SPEAKER_01: I mean, they had some huge plays, they were Bean was dealing out there, uh, just absolutely eating up that Iowa State defense.
- 22:51SPEAKER_01: Uh, their defensive line was fantastic.
- 22:55SPEAKER_01: They got to uh I believe his name is Rocco Becht, the uh Iowa State quarterback.
- 23:01SPEAKER_01: They got to him multiple times and really put some pressure on him, and they kind of stopped their running game.
- 23:07SPEAKER_01: So, you know, it's not a normal Kansas team that we're dealing with here.
- 23:12SPEAKER_01: They're a pretty balanced team overall, uh, or at least they've shown that they can be good at a lot of different parts of the of the football game.
- 23:20SPEAKER_02: I hate that this is what they're backup quarterback do, that they're doing this well.
- 23:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because I imagine if they had Jalen Daniels.
- 23:27SPEAKER_01: That whole situation has been so weird.
- 23:30SPEAKER_01: It has been.
- 23:31SPEAKER_01: It's like he's in, he's out, he's oh, he's not feeling good.
- 23:34SPEAKER_01: He's gonna be out for like three weeks instead of the original week that we thought it was.
- 23:38SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, there's obviously rumors swirling about Lance Leipold getting other head coaching opportunities.
- 23:44SPEAKER_01: Please potentially Jalen Daniels following him.
- 23:47SPEAKER_01: Are they sending him out for that purpose?
- 23:49SPEAKER_01: It's just been really weird if you're a Kansas fan and honestly, you're still thrilled because you're seven and two right now.
- 23:57SPEAKER_01: For sure.
- 23:58SPEAKER_01: You're doing this with a backup quarterback.
- 23:59SPEAKER_02: You have a dream season going on, dude.
- 24:01SPEAKER_02: I I I said please take Lance Lipold, but at the same time, I kind of want him to stick around.
- 24:05SPEAKER_02: I mean, I think it's good that Kansas is kind of getting back on their feet because I mean, we don't really have a Kansas right now.
- 24:09SPEAKER_02: These are Kansas since oh, Cincinnati's really bad.
- 24:12SPEAKER_02: But um oh and six oh in the big not a they just and UCF just got their first Big 12 win over them.
- 24:19SPEAKER_02: So um yeah, no, bad bad times there.
- 24:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, um, but so what's what's the spread here?
- 24:25SPEAKER_02: Do you know what Vegas is saying right now?
- 24:28SPEAKER_02: Because ESPN has Kansas at 55 percent.
- 24:33SPEAKER_02: And I'll take that.
- 24:35SPEAKER_02: I'll take that right now.
- 24:36SPEAKER_02: I think I think that's pretty fair right now.
- 24:38SPEAKER_01: Kansas is about a three and a half point favorite, which I'm a little surprised that's not higher.
- 24:42SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 24:43SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, I think they're just uh I don't really know the reason.
- 24:47SPEAKER_01: I I don't you're dealing with a four and five Texas tech team going into a ranked home environment, and you're like giving them three and a half, that's a little weird.
- 24:57SPEAKER_02: Uh I I think Vegas has been pretty kind to us all year, though.
- 25:00SPEAKER_02: I don't think anybody's been projected to beat us by double digits.
- 25:03SPEAKER_02: Maybe Oregon.
- 25:04SPEAKER_02: I don't even think them touchdown.
- 25:06SPEAKER_01: No, I think no, I think Oregon.
- 25:08SPEAKER_01: Oh, and they might well no, because we were coming off a Wyoming loss.
- 25:12SPEAKER_01: So yeah, we were probably 10 plus point fate for its or point underdogs.
- 25:21SPEAKER_02: Either way, I still feel good about this dude.
- 25:23SPEAKER_02: Like my vibes are high.
- 25:24SPEAKER_02: Okay, I don't know if it's just this kick tack, kick kick tack, kick, kick, kick, kick tack, this kick-ass old fashioned I'm drinking that's giving me an unfounded confidence.
- 25:32SPEAKER_02: But it's Buffalo Trace, by the way.
- 25:34SPEAKER_02: Um very nice or not, but I feel really good about our way, uh, how things are gonna go for the rest of the season.
- 25:40SPEAKER_02: Um, maybe maybe that'll change really quick, but right now I'm just gonna ride the high wall again.
- 25:46SPEAKER_01: You know, I want to feel the same way.
- 25:49SPEAKER_01: Stephen, please.
- 25:50SPEAKER_03: You even did a schizophrenic.
- 25:53SPEAKER_01: Now I can go over that.
- 25:55SPEAKER_01: That might change my mindset a little bit here because I spent way too much time on um possible Big 12 scenarios here.
- 26:04SPEAKER_01: You did that much math, like that is not you.
- 26:07SPEAKER_01: I did not you, I did no work and I did so much math, and it was so weird.
- 26:13SPEAKER_01: Um but despite what Joey McGuire said, which is very surprising that he said this, there's still a chance that Texas Tech could win the Big 12, and not just win the Big 12, but outright win the Big 12.
- 26:31SPEAKER_01: Now, a lot of different things need to happen.
- 26:33SPEAKER_01: I'm not trying to feed you this positivity and this optimism that this is going to happen.
- 26:39SPEAKER_01: You need all you need a whole lot to happen to even have a chance at a tiebreaker here for the Big 12.
- 26:48SPEAKER_01: But we're not out of the running, and I need you all to know this.
- 26:52SPEAKER_01: Give us a summary here.
- 26:53SPEAKER_01: I'm just gonna give you a quick summary.
- 26:55SPEAKER_01: The whole thing is on our Twitter at talk at tech pod if you want to kind of check it out.
- 26:59SPEAKER_01: That's more of like the dream scenario, what I put on Twitter, and kind of the funniest outcome, because it would mean Texas Tech is the outright champion and it would have like a 10-way tie for second place, which would be the ultimate chaos and something we should all root for.
- 27:16SPEAKER_01: Of course, always chaos.
- 27:18SPEAKER_01: But a more realistic, a more realistic view, how you should look at this.
- 27:23SPEAKER_01: You have eight teams that are still in the running for this.
- 27:27SPEAKER_01: Texas Tech, Texas, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Iowa State.
- 27:34SPEAKER_01: Oklahoma State finishes the season off with a cupcake schedule.
- 27:40SPEAKER_01: They go to UCF, they go to Houston, and then they have BYU and Stillwater.
- 27:46SPEAKER_01: Are you kidding me?
- 27:47SPEAKER_01: These guys are going to win at least two of those.
- 27:50SPEAKER_02: They are going to the Big 12 championship.
- 27:52SPEAKER_01: They're going to the Big 12 championship, unless Oklahoma State really just pulls out some.
- 27:56SPEAKER_01: Bowman the showman.
- 27:57SPEAKER_01: Bowman the showman down here going to the Big 12 championship.
- 28:02SPEAKER_01: If you're a Texas Tech fan, realistically, realistically, you shouldn't it shouldn't matter what Oklahoma State does because they should be it if you're a Texas Tech fan right now.
- 28:13SPEAKER_01: So no matter what Oklahoma State does, yeah, they can lose all three, and then somehow you have a better record than them at the end of the year, but that's not likely to happen.
- 28:20SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 28:23SPEAKER_01: What you need here you need to focus on three teams here.
- 28:27SPEAKER_01: Kansas State, West Virginia, and Texas.
- 28:31SPEAKER_01: Kansas State and West Virginia both own the tiebreaker over you.
- 28:35SPEAKER_01: So you have to finish with a better record than both of those teams.
- 28:39SPEAKER_01: So Kansas State needs to lose two of Baylor at home at Kansas and at Iowa State, which they could very well lose at Kansas and at Iowa State.
- 28:49SPEAKER_01: So that's possible.
- 28:51SPEAKER_01: The Baylor game, not likely.
- 28:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that come on.
- 28:55SPEAKER_01: Iowa, no, I'm sorry, West Virginia at OU this week.
- 29:00SPEAKER_01: That is a likely, likely loss for them.
- 29:04SPEAKER_02: Maybe a weird team, but yeah.
- 29:05SPEAKER_01: Then they need to lose another one.
- 29:08SPEAKER_01: Cincinnati at home in Morgantown and then at Baylor.
- 29:14SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, dude.
- 29:16SPEAKER_01: So I think it's actually more likely they lose to Cincinnati because of this like weird juju thing.
- 29:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:24SPEAKER_01: But it's gonna be tough because you are really rooting for Oklahoma to beat West Virginia this week.
- 29:29SPEAKER_02: If you're that's just gonna feel unnatural.
- 29:31SPEAKER_02: It's gonna feel unnatural.
- 29:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but honestly, touchdowns.
- 29:36SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 29:38SPEAKER_01: Uh the dream scenario here is West Virginia wins at OU and then loses to Cincy and Baylor.
- 29:42SPEAKER_01: That'd be funny.
- 29:43SPEAKER_01: Just that would just be funny.
- 29:45SPEAKER_01: It'd be funny.
- 29:46SPEAKER_01: So funny.
- 29:47SPEAKER_01: Texas.
- 29:49SPEAKER_01: You obviously need to beat Texas the last game of the season.
- 29:51SPEAKER_01: You need to win out if you're Texas Tech if you want any chance.
- 29:54SPEAKER_01: So by by default, you put that in in this dream scenario as a win for Texas Tech and a loss for Texas.
- 30:02SPEAKER_01: Texas would still need to lose one more at TCU or at Iowa State.
- 30:08SPEAKER_01: Okay, both, both not bad.
- 30:11SPEAKER_01: Not bad either way.
- 30:13SPEAKER_01: Away games, both of them.
- 30:14SPEAKER_01: I think obviously it's more likely they lose in Ames than they lose in Fort Worth because they're gonna have a huge Texas fan base for that TCU game.
- 30:22SPEAKER_01: But you do need Texas to lose one of the next two weeks.
- 30:25SPEAKER_02: Texas has been flirting with it so hard.
- 30:28SPEAKER_02: If K-State was didn't go full-blown insert derogatory term mode on on again in then in that uh in that uh overtime and not kick the ball.
- 30:39SPEAKER_02: Are you kidding me?
- 30:40SPEAKER_02: Then we we we would be maybe this conversation could be a little easier right now.
- 30:44SPEAKER_01: Well, no, actually, I think it would have been harder because Kansas State already beat you, and so you would then need Kansas State to lose all three of their final games.
- 30:53SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 30:54SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 30:54SPEAKER_01: So it's actually kind of good what happened with Texas.
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: Um this is so outlandish that I can't I can't believe we're even going into this further.
- 31:06SPEAKER_01: I can't believe we did this map with Kansas.
- 31:09SPEAKER_01: So obviously you're counting Texas Tech as a win here in this situation.
- 31:13SPEAKER_01: So Kansas could win out after that and be fine because we would both end with a six and three record and we would own the tiebreaker.
- 31:21SPEAKER_01: Same if Texas loses one more and loses to us, we would finish six and three and we would own the tiebreaker.
- 31:28SPEAKER_01: But I don't know how it's gonna work with Oklahoma and Iowa State or Oklahoma State if they happen to lose two of those three cupcakes, um, because we didn't play them head to head.
- 31:39SPEAKER_01: I don't know how the tiebreakers work, but yeah, to really like confirm we would need Iowa State to lose probably two of their last three, um, and Oklahoma to lose two of their last three.
- 31:53SPEAKER_01: Uh but we also need Oklahoma to beat West Virginia, so we kind of need Oklahoma to lose at BYU and then lose at home against TCU.
- 32:03SPEAKER_01: So all this to say, you need BYU, TCU, Baylor, UCF, Cincinnati to really step their shit up if we have a chance here.
- 32:16SPEAKER_02: Steven, I just love that you did all this work because I hope that the football gods are going to reward you for doing math for once in your entire life and to bring Texas Tech to Arlington for the first time.
- 32:30SPEAKER_02: Um, so I to be pretty to me what would probably be Oklahoma State, correct?
- 32:34SPEAKER_02: So uh that'd be a pretty ideal Big 12 championship for the last OU UT game.
- 32:39SPEAKER_02: I mean, come on, like having having OU's biggest instant rival and UT's uh biggest instant rival left in the Big 12 in the in the in the uh Big 12 championship, it'd be pretty funny.
- 32:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I do want to re-emphasize this is not likely, and you should not expect this to happen.
- 32:55SPEAKER_01: But but it's fun to dream.
- 32:59SPEAKER_01: That's what I'll say.
- 33:00SPEAKER_02: It's it's everybody can dream.
- 33:02SPEAKER_02: I dream that Texas Tech will play in a football championship for once.
- 33:06SPEAKER_01: I love that this situation is even a thing, and that there's actually a scenario where Texas Tech, who is four and five on the season, can outright win the Big 12.
- 33:17SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 33:17SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 33:18SPEAKER_01: I love that this is chaos.
- 33:19SPEAKER_01: This is what college football's about.
- 33:21SPEAKER_02: It just you know it sucks that we're having this conversation, you know, with such outlandish percentages here because just imagine if we had healthy quarterbacks this season.
- 33:30SPEAKER_02: What the I hate everything.
- 33:32SPEAKER_02: I don't want to do that.
- 33:33SPEAKER_02: Like this can be a much more comfortable position saying, like, okay, so we were able to get one over K-State, and obviously we beat BYU.
- 33:40SPEAKER_02: And you know, we were we're we're we're officially what five and one in conference at that point.
- 33:48SPEAKER_02: Holy cow.
- 33:49SPEAKER_01: You beat Kansas State, maybe you beat a bad, I still think they're bad, West Virginia team.
- 33:54SPEAKER_02: Oh, to start the year undefeated, yeah.
- 33:57SPEAKER_02: In conference, you know, you beat you beat your G5 team.
- 34:00SPEAKER_02: How about that?
- 34:00SPEAKER_02: How about that one?
- 34:01SPEAKER_01: Hey, hey, how about if you beat Wyoming at the beginning of the hey, how about if you beat Oregon like you probably should have?
- 34:09SPEAKER_01: Okay, well, yeah, we could go, we could go down a deep dark hole of depression here.
- 34:13SPEAKER_01: But we don't want to do let's let's go back up.
- 34:16SPEAKER_01: I can I just I there's a percent chance that is way under one percent that Texas Tech wins the Big Twelve championship.
- 34:24SPEAKER_02: That's all I know.
- 34:25SPEAKER_02: All I'm saying is if you have a lot of debt to pay off, go to Vegas right now and throw the stack on this.
- 34:30SPEAKER_01: 10 bucks on Texas Tech winning the Big 12 outright, you would be a millionaire.
- 34:35SPEAKER_01: I think you win a I think you would win a million dollars.
- 34:39SPEAKER_02: I'm proud of you, Steven.
- 34:41SPEAKER_02: I'm proud of you for doing all this.
- 34:42SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 34:43SPEAKER_01: My work is very upset uh with me that I spent all day on I think Monday doing this.
- 34:49SPEAKER_02: You're a treasured employee, Steven.
- 34:51SPEAKER_01: Look at me.
- 34:52SPEAKER_01: If you want to see the whole thing kind of put out there for you, go to the talk and tech Twitter account.
- 34:57SPEAKER_01: Get nice and writing.
- 34:58SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 34:59SPEAKER_01: I appreciate that.
- 35:00SPEAKER_01: I don't, I really don't.
- 35:01SPEAKER_01: Um better than mine.
- 35:04SPEAKER_01: Everything is better than yours.
- 35:05SPEAKER_02: Mine's like a serial killer's note.
- 35:07SPEAKER_02: That's cut out magazine clippings.
- 35:10SPEAKER_01: Yours is a kindergarten kid that is just learning.
- 35:13SPEAKER_02: All my students roast the shit out of me every day.
- 35:16SPEAKER_01: You should be roasted.
- 35:17SPEAKER_01: It's awful.
- 35:18SPEAKER_02: It's it's bad.
- 35:21SPEAKER_01: So, anyways.
- 35:22SPEAKER_01: So, anyways, we're gonna win it, Lawrence.
- 35:25SPEAKER_01: So, anyways, we're gonna get this ball rolling.
- 35:28SPEAKER_01: And we had the schedule announced for at least the next four years for Texas Tech Football.
- 35:34SPEAKER_01: The opponents, now we don't have dates, we don't have times, we don't have anything of that nature, but we do know where we're going, and we know what games are in Lubbock for the next four years.
- 35:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so start planning your trips.
- 35:48SPEAKER_01: There's a lot of good ones ahead of you, obviously.
- 35:50SPEAKER_01: Integrating the new four pack schools into the Big 12.
- 35:56SPEAKER_01: Um couple things about it before we start like just railing off what road trips we're gonna be taking.
- 36:02SPEAKER_01: We don't play anybody all four of the next years.
- 36:06SPEAKER_01: We have we don't have one protected rival as Texas Tech, which probably fair, but what are your kind of thoughts on the fact that Texas Tech does not have a protected rival in the new Big 12?
- 36:19SPEAKER_02: A lot of people are upset about it, but I actually have no issue with it.
- 36:23SPEAKER_02: Um, I think as Texas Tech, everybody wants to play you in the state.
- 36:29SPEAKER_02: And um, I just don't know if you could have just sold your one game to anybody.
- 36:34SPEAKER_02: And the only team that you would have been able to sell it to is Houston.
- 36:36SPEAKER_02: And I bet Houston wanted to.
- 36:39SPEAKER_02: I bet Houston was like, please let us do that.
- 36:41SPEAKER_02: And I bet tech was like, we'll pass on on this.
- 36:45SPEAKER_02: Just so we can open up the schedule a bit and uh allow for us to have a more open schedule to uh schedule you know the other two Texas schools more rather than just gluing ourselves to U of H, you know, and I I'm actually okay with it because I don't think you'll be able to glue yourself to TC or Baylor.
- 37:01SPEAKER_02: And as as fun as that is, they obviously like playing each other more than than us.
- 37:05SPEAKER_02: So uh I wouldn't want to be like a sort of third wheel there.
- 37:09SPEAKER_02: So I have no issue with it.
- 37:11SPEAKER_02: The actually only team that I think I would have wanted would be OSU.
- 37:14SPEAKER_01: That's exact that's exactly what I was about to say.
- 37:16SPEAKER_01: The only team that I would have wanted a protected rivalry with is Oklahoma State because it just makes sense.
- 37:22SPEAKER_01: Like these two teams have a rivalry, and it's a rivalry that's not a rivalry, you know.
- 37:28SPEAKER_01: Like it's it's there's this like connection between those two schools, and it's mostly from being like the the younger brother per se of the other two schools that are now leaving the conference.
- 37:40SPEAKER_01: Like it just there would be such a fun rivalry, I think, with Oklahoma State and Texas Tech that for some reason the schools don't want to make happen, and it doesn't really seem like a lot of fans want to make it happen.
- 37:52SPEAKER_01: I would love this, but alas, I don't always get what I want.
- 37:56SPEAKER_01: And so here we are.
- 37:58SPEAKER_02: I feel like a handful, I feel like a good amount of uh fans on both sides wanted this.
- 38:02SPEAKER_02: I think if they if OSU was gonna pick anybody, it would have been us as well.
- 38:05SPEAKER_02: Um, and uh, but like I said, dude, it's it it complicates whatever TC and Baylor are gonna be glued to each other.
- 38:11SPEAKER_02: And whenever you look at the schedule breakdown, we play OSU three times.
- 38:15SPEAKER_02: We also play uh you uh uh Baylor, TCU, and U of H three times as well.
- 38:21SPEAKER_02: So honestly, as a Texas Te fan, it may not immediately seem so because you maybe you wanted a permanent rival with one of those schools, but you got a really great cut out of this because you really did get everything you wanted.
- 38:32SPEAKER_02: I mean, the cut the kind of random ones are uh West Virginia and um Arizona State, uh for the other three you're gonna meet three times three times out of four years.
- 38:40SPEAKER_02: But honestly, those are fun games.
- 38:42SPEAKER_02: I I'm not I'm not mad about those at all.
- 38:44SPEAKER_02: Like I actually really I really like the idea of playing those those two teams three years out of four.
- 38:48SPEAKER_02: So honestly, dude, as a Texas Tech fan, this is actually a pretty dream scenario for me.
- 38:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, I'm pretty happy.
- 38:53SPEAKER_01: I could have probably replaced West Virginia with maybe an Arizona or like a Utah or Colorado.
- 38:57SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, I would have liked to play.
- 38:59SPEAKER_01: But yeah, Arizona State's a good one.
- 39:00SPEAKER_01: I I do like playing West Virginia, I think it's a fun game.
- 39:04SPEAKER_01: Um, so yeah, playing them three times, and then obviously the Texas schools in Oklahoma State.
- 39:08SPEAKER_01: Uh, it's a it's a good it's a good stretch.
- 39:10SPEAKER_01: So we'll play you'll play Arizona, BYU, UCF, Cincinnati, Utah, Iowa State, and Colorado two out of the next four years.
- 39:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I imagine one at home, one at away.
- 39:21SPEAKER_01: Um, it's it's just kind of the effect of having such a massive conference.
- 39:25SPEAKER_01: This is what the SEC does.
- 39:28SPEAKER_01: This is I'm just glad we're playing everybody at least once or twice here in the next four years.
- 39:34SPEAKER_01: And it's not like a SEC situation where Georgia and Texas AM didn't play for the first like 12 years that you know AM was in the SEC or whatever.
- 39:45SPEAKER_01: Like that part always pisses me off.
- 39:48SPEAKER_01: You can't have a conference and have two teams in that conference not play each other at least frequently, you know.
- 39:54SPEAKER_02: No, no, 100%, dude.
- 39:56SPEAKER_02: Uh, I'm I'm so glad we're not doing divisions.
- 39:59SPEAKER_02: And a lot of people really like the idea of pods.
- 40:01SPEAKER_02: I was not against the idea of pods, but I try I really think that a true shuffle, you know, every four years is probably gonna be the way to go.
- 40:10SPEAKER_02: Um, just for sake of variety, and that way you don't anchor yourself to maybe teams that are perpetually bad or perpetually good.
- 40:19SPEAKER_02: Um, and an argument no one thinks about is everybody wants to get into Texas.
- 40:25SPEAKER_02: So everyone's gonna want the Texas teams on their schedule more so than others, or or even maybe in UCF or so and so on.
- 40:34SPEAKER_02: So if you just glue the Texas schools together, it limits the scheduling abilities of everybody else inside of Texas because it's apparently pretty well documented that a big part of Colorado when come back to the Big 12 is Deion Sanders being old sellers brand back in Texas, being the Dallas Cowboy legend.
- 40:50SPEAKER_02: He is so apparently that's a pretty good big play about them making the jump first.
- 40:54SPEAKER_02: So obviously, they want to get back in the Lone Star State more, and I get that.
- 40:57SPEAKER_02: So, and obviously, I think Ariz, the Arizona schools as well, since Arizona's kind of a glowing, uh growing football state as well.
- 41:02SPEAKER_02: Um, it's just this is gonna be so good for the health of the league, in my opinion, since you're just not gonna anchor each other to each other, except for some you know mainstream rivalries, in my opinion.
- 41:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think the only uh downside to what was released from the Big 12 was Farmageddon not being a protected rivalry.
- 41:21SPEAKER_01: I I understand why they couldn't make it happen because Kansas and Kansas State already had one of the four protected rivalry, and I get it.
- 41:28SPEAKER_01: I honestly think Farmageddon should have precedent over the Sunflower showdown.
- 41:33SPEAKER_02: No way, no, in-state rivalries are more fun, dude.
- 41:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but not really, like you see that Kansas State, Iowa State game every year.
- 41:40SPEAKER_01: The the amount of shit talking you get from both of those sides is not the same with Kansas and Kansas State.
- 41:47SPEAKER_01: You can't argue that.
- 41:48SPEAKER_01: And I think Farmageddon is a better rivalry than the Sunflower one.
- 41:52SPEAKER_02: Oh, I I okay, but with Kansas getting better, it's gonna it's gonna start kind of coming back together in that sense in the Sunflower Showdown.
- 42:00SPEAKER_01: I I mean, I I think the relationship between Kansas and Kansas State is complicated because it's like Kansas State has been so good at football for so long, and Kansas has been absolute bottom of the barrel.
- 42:11SPEAKER_01: So they don't have the same kind of fans at the same time, you know, and then obviously Kansas basketball being the dominant force that they are.
- 42:18SPEAKER_01: Kansas State's a little bit uh coming up, but no, Iowa State always brings it against Kansas State and the same, it's reciprocated, really fun.
- 42:26SPEAKER_01: It's like a really, really fun game every year.
- 42:28SPEAKER_02: Hey, no, I I I totally hear you.
- 42:30SPEAKER_02: They probably have the three out of four, though.
- 42:32SPEAKER_02: So that's that's the thing.
- 42:34SPEAKER_02: So it's it's no and that's fine.
- 42:37SPEAKER_01: It's it seemed and and bottom line there.
- 42:39SPEAKER_01: Just from following both fans, some certain people from both fan bases on Twitter, they seemed upset about it.
- 42:44SPEAKER_01: They did, they did, they did.
- 42:46SPEAKER_01: I share, I share that sentiment with those those good people like Cyclone Larry on Twitter.
- 42:52SPEAKER_02: No, no, no, no, I I get it, I get it.
- 42:54SPEAKER_02: Um, so yeah, dude, I I get I get excited.
- 42:57SPEAKER_02: I get really excited whenever I look at these these schedules.
- 43:00SPEAKER_02: It's just it's a fun to get these mixed up, and I really like the teams we added.
- 43:04SPEAKER_02: I think we have a really fun conference with a bright feature ahead of it, dude.
- 43:08SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be so much fun.
- 43:09SPEAKER_01: Yep, absolutely.
- 43:10SPEAKER_01: 100% in agreement.
- 43:12SPEAKER_01: Basketball.
- 43:14SPEAKER_01: You good on football?
- 43:15SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm I'm good on football, dude.
- 43:17SPEAKER_02: I'm just excited to be playing these boulder and two song trips.
- 43:21SPEAKER_01: The the boulder trip will be epic in 2026.
- 43:24SPEAKER_01: Yes, book it right now.
- 43:26SPEAKER_01: We're booking it right now.
- 43:27SPEAKER_01: Book it right now.
- 43:28SPEAKER_01: The whole squad be going up to Colorado.
- 43:30SPEAKER_01: Well, no doubt, dude.
- 43:31SPEAKER_01: No doubt.
- 43:32SPEAKER_01: Um Lady Raiders basketball tipping off tonight as we record right now.
- 43:38SPEAKER_01: They are beating UT Rio Grande Valley by 50 points.
- 43:42SPEAKER_01: Oh, oh, oh as I'm looking at this right now, the Lady Raiders are up 72 to 22.
- 43:50SPEAKER_01: Pardon me in Lubbock, Texas.
- 43:53SPEAKER_01: Those poor vaqueros.
- 43:56SPEAKER_01: Lady vaqueros, lady vaqueros, Christogram.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: Gerlic got that thing going.
- 44:01SPEAKER_01: Queen.
- 44:02SPEAKER_01: She's a queen.
- 44:03SPEAKER_01: She's winning by 50.
- 44:05SPEAKER_01: She she's the 50.
- 44:06SPEAKER_01: We should call her 50 burger.
- 44:08SPEAKER_02: She's 50 burger.
- 44:09SPEAKER_01: Yes, women love being called burger.
- 44:14SPEAKER_01: Krista Gerlic's a queen.
- 44:15SPEAKER_01: She can do no wrong.
- 44:16SPEAKER_01: No doubt, dude.
- 44:18SPEAKER_01: Uh the men also easy on the vaqueros.
- 44:22SPEAKER_01: They will they're showing no mercy right now.
- 44:25SPEAKER_01: The the men tip off tomorrow, which is going to be Wednesday, which is at the time you're listening to this podcast, I imagine.
- 44:32SPEAKER_01: Um, against AM Commerce.
- 44:34SPEAKER_01: AM Commerce, uh a uh worthy opponent, just absolute dominant force in Texas.
- 44:44SPEAKER_01: They're known for having a fantastic basketball program.
- 44:48SPEAKER_01: No.
- 44:48SPEAKER_01: Resume builder.
- 44:50SPEAKER_01: This is something that they look at in March for your team.
- 44:54SPEAKER_01: Uh, no, it's it's gonna be an easy game.
- 44:57SPEAKER_01: AM Commerce actually played Texas AM to open their season on Monday.
- 45:01SPEAKER_01: So they're playing two days apart, they're gonna be tired, they're going from college station to Lubbock in two days.
- 45:08SPEAKER_01: It's what these lower like lower schools do at the beginning of the year.
- 45:11SPEAKER_01: They just will agree to any game against the big time school so they can make a little cash money.
- 45:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 45:18SPEAKER_01: Those departments, and so pay for the travel budget, pay for the travel, get some experience for your young, you know, squad that is conference play, lower level, get ready for your own conference play, all that kind of stuff.
- 45:30SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm excited that Texas Tech Basketball's back.
- 45:33SPEAKER_01: This is my favorite sport, like I said last week.
- 45:36SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm excited for this year's team.
- 45:38SPEAKER_01: While I may not have the highest hopes necessarily that I have in the past for basketball, I am very, very curious and excited to see how both of these teams play going into this year.
- 45:50SPEAKER_02: You guys just gotta say, man, um sick intro video for the boys uh with on the on this on this court in Lubbock here with the flamethrowers.
- 45:58SPEAKER_02: Good on them for dragging the flamethrowers out to the street court in Lubbock.
- 46:02SPEAKER_02: Uh, nothing but love for that one there.
- 46:04SPEAKER_02: Um, but man, I'm just so excited to see our team on television.
- 46:09SPEAKER_02: And it's gonna be just a whole new era, a whole new squad.
- 46:12SPEAKER_02: So I'm really excited to see what we roll out with and kind of see what we have what we have to expect for the rest of the year, uh, player-wise on the court.
- 46:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, unless you weren't indenting for that AM game, uh, the exhibition one, this is gonna be your first time really seeing the squad.
- 46:26SPEAKER_01: So um a lot to look forward to, a lot to see what our strengths are right off the bat, and a lot and excited to see what we can improve on because I'm sure there's gonna be plenty of things.
- 46:36SPEAKER_01: Um, just based on it.
- 46:37SPEAKER_01: I don't know if you've watched college basketball to start the year on that Monday, but a lot of teams kind of stink at the start of the year.
- 46:44SPEAKER_01: College basketball, it's fun because it's insane and bad basketball.
- 46:49SPEAKER_02: Um, don't become a Rostine tweet, please.
- 46:52SPEAKER_02: No, please do not be please do not be the tweet when coming on Wednesday night.
- 46:56SPEAKER_01: Do not do the epitome of brutality.
- 46:58SPEAKER_01: I do not want to see that.
- 46:59SPEAKER_01: I don't want to see that.
- 47:01SPEAKER_01: We're not gonna see that.
- 47:02SPEAKER_01: We are positive vibes going into basketball season.
- 47:04SPEAKER_01: So, uh how are things in still water?
- 47:08SPEAKER_01: Not great.
- 47:09SPEAKER_01: I tell you what, I put him 13 in my poll for a reason.
- 47:12SPEAKER_01: That was even before they lost to who whatever bum team they played and lost.
- 47:18SPEAKER_01: Oklahoma State is not good.
- 47:20SPEAKER_01: Mike Boynton is not a good head coach.
- 47:22SPEAKER_01: Now, I don't know why people are afraid to say this.
- 47:25SPEAKER_01: He's lost to like Oakland in the past couple years, he's only made the NCAA tournament one time, and it's when they had the number one pick in the NBA that year, Cade Cunningham.
- 47:37SPEAKER_01: Mike Boynton stinks as a head coach.
- 47:40SPEAKER_01: Heck of a recruiter, great individual.
- 47:43SPEAKER_01: Stinks as a head coach.
- 47:45SPEAKER_01: I've said this for years.
- 47:47SPEAKER_02: Vibes are low there right now.
- 47:49SPEAKER_02: And same in uh Michigan State.
- 47:51SPEAKER_02: So it's just it was kind of funny to watch the opening.
- 47:53SPEAKER_02: I'm not gonna lie.
- 47:54SPEAKER_02: It's it's always funny when it's not your team, but and it's not that's not gonna be our team tomorrow night.
- 47:59SPEAKER_02: So vibes remain high.
- 48:01SPEAKER_01: Yes, that will age very, very poorly if we do.
- 48:05SPEAKER_01: Please, God, please, McCastlin, please.
- 48:09SPEAKER_01: Yes, excited to watch Pop put up 30 on me too, thanks.
- 48:13SPEAKER_01: On the uh no, we're not playing the Vaqueros.
- 48:16SPEAKER_01: What's AM Commerce?
- 48:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that makes sense.
- 48:20SPEAKER_02: They're the Panthers.
- 48:23SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 48:24SPEAKER_01: You know another sport that Texas Tech is pretty good in soccer.
- 48:29SPEAKER_01: Soccer, baby, the world's game.
- 48:31SPEAKER_01: NCAA tournament starts Friday, the 10th.
- 48:37SPEAKER_01: Two seed Texas Tech set to play the mighty Florida Gulf Coast at 6 p.m.
- 48:45SPEAKER_01: in the morning.
- 48:45SPEAKER_02: Offsprees, aren't they?
- 48:47SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 48:48SPEAKER_01: Whatever you say, man, I'll believe it.
- 48:51SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry.
- 48:52SPEAKER_02: I I I I'm so sorry.
- 48:53SPEAKER_02: Um, it looks like they're the lions, actually.
- 48:55SPEAKER_02: Commerce is the lions.
- 48:56SPEAKER_01: That makes sense.
- 48:58SPEAKER_01: Lions in Florida.
- 48:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 48:59SPEAKER_02: No, no, commerce.
- 49:01SPEAKER_01: Oh, Commerce.
- 49:02SPEAKER_01: You're not talking about Florida Gulf Coast.
- 49:04SPEAKER_02: Keep going on with your spiel.
- 49:05SPEAKER_02: I'll find out who they are, too.
- 49:06SPEAKER_01: The only thing I know about Florida Gulf Coast is their epic run in the NTA tournament like several years ago at this point.
- 49:13SPEAKER_01: They were throwing alley oops, it was awesome.
- 49:15SPEAKER_01: Um, I know nothing about their soccer team.
- 49:18SPEAKER_01: They're obviously pretty low ranked, but still made the tournament.
- 49:22SPEAKER_01: So it's a 64 team tournament.
- 49:24SPEAKER_01: It's the same deal as basketball here in soccer.
- 49:27SPEAKER_01: And the cool thing about this though is that you get actual home games.
- 49:31SPEAKER_01: Like we're gonna play in Lubbock uh for potentially the first three games of this kind of set of uh set of games here.
- 49:39SPEAKER_01: Um, it's not, I don't know if anybody's really put it out there yet.
- 49:43SPEAKER_01: I imagine it's on ESPN Plus.
- 49:45SPEAKER_01: I don't know why they wouldn't televise this um with it being the NCAA tournament, but I would imagine ESPN Plus is the place to watch.
- 49:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no doubt.
- 49:53SPEAKER_02: Uh so Gulf Coast is the Eagles.
- 49:55SPEAKER_02: Uh the off streets would have been way cooler, in my opinion.
- 49:57SPEAKER_01: That would have been something more Florida oriented.
- 50:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no doubt.
- 50:01SPEAKER_02: Um, but yeah, dude, number two seed.
- 50:03SPEAKER_02: How can he complain?
- 50:04SPEAKER_02: Actually, not even the highest in the Big 12, though.
- 50:06SPEAKER_02: BYU's number one.
- 50:06SPEAKER_03: And they didn't same bracket, same bracket.
- 50:09SPEAKER_02: They didn't even win the conference or the tournament, so they must have had a kick ass out of conference slate that they just romped.
- 50:17SPEAKER_02: So uh interesting.
- 50:18SPEAKER_02: Uh interesting follow the the balls there, as as they say, follow the balls.
- 50:23SPEAKER_01: As many people say, follow the balls.
- 50:26SPEAKER_01: Uh winner of the Texas Tech Florida Gulf Coast game will play the winner of Michigan and number seven Princeton.
- 50:34SPEAKER_01: So we might beat those nerds next.
- 50:37SPEAKER_02: Let's get the nerds, baby.
- 50:39SPEAKER_01: Either way, they're kind of nerds.
- 50:40SPEAKER_01: Michigan's kind of a nerd school.
- 50:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 50:43SPEAKER_02: Princeton, even more so.
- 50:44SPEAKER_02: I mean, unless you just unless you're just rich.
- 50:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 50:47SPEAKER_01: Unless you you got daddy's money or the alumni, the alumni connection there.
- 50:52SPEAKER_01: Uh excited.
- 50:54SPEAKER_01: Excited to see the ladies continue on in the season.
- 50:56SPEAKER_01: Always good to see postseason whatever sport for Texas Tech.
- 51:00SPEAKER_01: So easily.
- 51:01SPEAKER_01: Root on the ladies on Friday.
- 51:03SPEAKER_01: Um, one more thing before we finish off with Song of the Week.
- 51:08SPEAKER_01: We ended last week's pod um a little bit.
- 51:11SPEAKER_01: I mean, it was it was the next day after the release that um Bob Knight passed away, 83 years old.
- 51:17SPEAKER_01: Um obviously doesn't need uh to be said absolute titan, coaching legend of college basketball.
- 51:27SPEAKER_01: Um, coached an army starting in the 1965-66 season.
- 51:33SPEAKER_01: Uh, then went on to spend 29 seasons as the head coach of Indiana, won three NCAA tournaments there, 11 Big Ten championships as a Hoosier, and then after a controversial uh you know, set several events, uh went on to Lubbock, Texas and coached the Texas Tech Red Raiders from 2001 to 2008, posting a 138 and 82 record as the head coach of Texas Tech.
- 52:01SPEAKER_01: Um, I think it says it all when you're showing the record right before Bob Knight got there.
- 52:07SPEAKER_01: We were 9 and 19.
- 52:08SPEAKER_01: And then when he got there, we were 23 and 9 that first year of Bob Knight.
- 52:13SPEAKER_01: So the second biggest turnaround from one season to another in Texas Tech history, absolute legend, was still throwing his fastball at Texas Tech.
- 52:25SPEAKER_01: I think he made four or five NCA tournaments as the Texas Tech head coach, won his 900th game as the Texas Tech head coach.
- 52:34SPEAKER_01: So just an absolute legend.
- 52:36SPEAKER_01: Uh, passed away at 83 years old, but um, you know, obviously uh legend of the game.
- 52:43SPEAKER_02: Hall of Famer, all-time greats, probably should be credited with getting Texas Tech basketball off the ground and into the situation it's in today.
- 52:55SPEAKER_02: And it's I feel like it's it's hard to think about Tex Tech basketball as a whole program without bringing up Bob Knight.
- 53:03SPEAKER_02: And just just whenever you and it's so great to see a legend come into Lubbock, you know, that's fun as it is, and just see him kind of embrace the community and become one of us immediately, um, with probably what's gonna go down as his most beloved appearance on college game day.
- 53:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, um, beat the hell out of him.
- 53:20SPEAKER_02: And it's just obviously it's sad to lose such a legend, but man, what a lasting impact he's gonna have, what a legacy.
- 53:27SPEAKER_02: And I hope we can do him right by by kicking some ass this season.
- 53:30SPEAKER_01: It was good to see him before he passed, go back to Indiana and get celebrated there.
- 53:35SPEAKER_01: Uh, despite all the controversy, that was a cool moment that they did.
- 53:38SPEAKER_01: I think it was last year, maybe the year prior.
- 53:40SPEAKER_01: Um, but yeah, obviously for Texas Tech, we uh so well known for his college game day appearance on the Crabtree game, uh, saying, I deeply hope we beat their ass against the Texas Longhorns.
- 53:54SPEAKER_01: And in fact, we did.
- 53:55SPEAKER_01: We did, we did do Bob Knight, absolute legend.
- 53:58SPEAKER_01: Uh, obviously more known for being a Hoosier, but absolutely did so much for the Texas Tech basketball program.
- 54:06SPEAKER_02: And we had them for nearly 10 years.
- 54:07SPEAKER_02: We we can get some we can get some Bob Knight slice in here, all right?
- 54:10SPEAKER_02: Absolutely, 100%.
- 54:12SPEAKER_01: Um man, this is a uh this is a positive podcast that we're it is, dude.
- 54:18SPEAKER_01: It's been a while.
- 54:19SPEAKER_01: We're we're okay.
- 54:20SPEAKER_01: We're winning, uh, at least in football.
- 54:22SPEAKER_01: We're hopefully getting a quick dub in uh in basketball.
- 54:26SPEAKER_01: It unless the lady vaqueros somehow overcome a 50-point deficit here.
- 54:30SPEAKER_01: We're gonna start off the season a dub in in the women's basketball.
- 54:33SPEAKER_01: So soccer NCAA tournament vibes are good right now.
- 54:36SPEAKER_02: Dude, I'm I'm feeling good, man.
- 54:38SPEAKER_02: And I like I say, dude, we're gonna go and beat some butt in Lawrence, Kansas here.
- 54:42SPEAKER_01: Yes, absolutely.
- 54:44SPEAKER_01: Okay, song of the week.
- 54:46SPEAKER_01: Um our buddy Logan's gonna hate this.
- 54:50SPEAKER_01: Uh I know.
- 54:51SPEAKER_01: We uh our both of our wives are huge Swifties.
- 54:56SPEAKER_01: Uh as yes, that's fair to say.
- 54:58SPEAKER_01: I'm sure many, many, many people are these days.
- 55:02SPEAKER_02: A lot of related, relite, related out there.
- 55:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, a lot of a lot of people like Taylor Swift.
- 55:07SPEAKER_01: And uh who would have thought she released a new album?
- 55:10SPEAKER_01: Is it and it's a remake of one of her old albums?
- 55:12SPEAKER_02: It's yeah, it's it's not new, but it's it's new.
- 55:16SPEAKER_01: There's some new songs uh on this 1989 Taylor's version.
- 55:22SPEAKER_01: And your wife gave one.
- 55:24SPEAKER_01: I actually gave mine personal favorite off of this new album.
- 55:28SPEAKER_01: I haven't listened to all of it, but I did listen to some of the vault tracks and I did enjoy some of them.
- 55:33SPEAKER_01: So uh why don't you give your song of the week here uh to start off?
- 55:37SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna open it up with I I think in the grand scheme of Taylor Swift, 1989 is kind of mid.
- 55:43SPEAKER_02: Like it's it's kind of bottom half for me and her distography.
- 55:47SPEAKER_02: But all that aside, I'm gonna go with Is It Over Now?
- 55:51SPEAKER_02: from uh Taylor's version from the vault.
- 55:53SPEAKER_02: This was my my wife's pick.
- 55:55SPEAKER_02: And it's a it's a good bot.
- 55:56SPEAKER_02: You know, there's not a whole lot of vault songs on this one, but it's it's always nice to hear these extras.
- 56:00SPEAKER_02: So I'm gonna go with Is It Over Now with uh on from From the Vault.
- 56:05SPEAKER_07: Come on here, I whispered in your ear in your dream as you passed out, baby.
- 56:10SPEAKER_07: Was it over now?
- 56:14SPEAKER_07: Is it over now?
- 56:17SPEAKER_01: Very nice.
- 56:18SPEAKER_01: I'm surprised you didn't choose slut.
- 56:19SPEAKER_01: How dare you!
- 56:20SPEAKER_02: I didn't really like that one.
- 56:21SPEAKER_01: No, it wasn't very good.
- 56:23SPEAKER_01: I didn't like it either.
- 56:24SPEAKER_01: I didn't uh as a slut, it did not speak to me.
- 56:28SPEAKER_01: Uh uh, the one I'm gonna choose is uh Say Don't Go, the Taylor's version from the vault.
- 56:36SPEAKER_01: Um, this one I'm choosing it because when I listened to it for the first time with my wife, um, I was like, this kind of sounds Phil Collins-y.
- 56:45SPEAKER_01: Like it kind of comparison, it gives off those vibes, and it was like something that just popped into my head when I was listening to it.
- 56:51SPEAKER_01: And she was like, you know, that's funny.
- 56:54SPEAKER_01: Look at one of the songwriters on there, and uh, her name's not coming to me at the top of my head, but it's like Diane something.
- 57:00SPEAKER_01: And she wrote a ton of songs for Phil Collins, so the vibes were there, and I picked up on it prior to knowing that this lady also wrote songs for Phil Collins, so it made me feel good about this.
- 57:14SPEAKER_01: Remember, makes me feel like I know music.
- 57:17SPEAKER_01: Uh I remember, don't worry.
- 57:20SPEAKER_01: That's why Say Don't Go is my song of the week.
- 57:24unknown: Why'd you have to leave me on?
- 57:26unknown: Why'd you have to twist the die?
- 57:28SPEAKER_03: What will we be pleaded?
- 57:34SPEAKER_02: First time.
- 57:36SPEAKER_02: The last time we ever met.
- 57:39SPEAKER_01: I'm surprised you didn't start singing Son of Man.
- 57:44SPEAKER_02: I wanted to go pure, not soundtrack.
- 57:46SPEAKER_01: What do you mean?
- 57:47SPEAKER_01: That's the most pure song of all time.
- 57:49SPEAKER_01: I understand.
- 57:49SPEAKER_01: Don't get that you're acting like I'm hating on it.
- 57:52SPEAKER_01: You're hating on it.
- 57:53SPEAKER_01: You're hating Tarzan.
- 57:54SPEAKER_01: I didn't realize that you hated Tarzan.
- 57:56SPEAKER_01: I love I love it.
- 57:57SPEAKER_01: I love I love the gorilla man.
- 58:00unknown: The gorilla.
- 58:03SPEAKER_01: Bill Collins is great.
- 58:04SPEAKER_01: We should do a Bill Collins song of the week.
- 58:07SPEAKER_02: We did, we absolutely should.
- 58:09SPEAKER_02: Okay, that'll be I've kind of done one already, but yes.
- 58:12SPEAKER_01: Well, you did a Wade Bowen.
- 58:14SPEAKER_01: You did the Wade Bowen, which by the way, fantastic song.
- 58:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that was that was a banger for for you.
