- 0:03Speaker 1: This is a Bramble Jam podcast this week on your
- 0:13Speaker 1: Gabble Gabble.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Drive your friend and her friends to the club and
- 0:17Speaker 2: then pick them up at two am and then she
- 0:18Speaker 2: ruins your car. Does she have to pay for it?
- 0:20Speaker 2: Or does it even matter at all? Judge Matthews is
- 0:22Speaker 2: here to give life lessons.
- 0:23Speaker 3: And if the accidentally step on the bribes train a
- 0:28Speaker 3: train and it cuts a hole in it, does she
- 0:31Speaker 3: get money or is it happily never?
- 0:35Speaker 1: Real people, Real case justice. This is your Ross tells you, Hi, everybody,
- 0:42Speaker 1: you were out of sorts this week. I got a
- 0:44Speaker 1: little I got a little cought in the.
- 0:47Speaker 2: They just did release the homework schedule, So I do
- 0:49Speaker 2: think that that's part of it. You think it is
- 0:51Speaker 2: You're a little like out out of sorts. Yeah, I
- 0:55Speaker 2: think they released that a few weeks ago. I think
- 0:59Speaker 2: they just really like, you know, just released it. Then
- 1:01Speaker 2: they just did like a few days ago. I feel like,
- 1:03Speaker 2: thinking about it, I think it's been out for a
- 1:05Speaker 2: little I've had it at least for a little while.
- 1:10Speaker 2: I've had Judge Ross. You're judge mathis Yes, Yeah, go first, Okay,
- 1:18Speaker 2: this is one of my least favorite cases I've ever
- 1:19Speaker 2: had and I I hit. Sometimes you look at the
- 1:22Speaker 2: title of the cases and sometimes you want to know.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Sometimes you look at the title the cases and the
- 1:27Speaker 2: title is so good that you're like, this has got
- 1:29Speaker 2: to be great. And this one was had biting fingers
- 1:34Speaker 2: in the title. Yeah, And who's not clicking on that exactly?
- 1:39Speaker 2: This case has very little to do with biting fingers.
- 1:43Speaker 2: I feel misled the internet.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Lie. No one is more disappointed by the lack of
- 1:48Speaker 1: bitten fingers than Dan right.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Now, especially when it's just like mentioned once, like stop it.
- 1:52Speaker 2: H Rayca Lions, Rayca Lions. Her name is Raka Rake
- 1:57Speaker 2: a lion or a I k A Reka, So not
- 2:01Speaker 2: a lion. Reyka Lions is suing Sean Teria Clay for
- 2:07Speaker 2: two thy five and fifty four dollars. Loan Shan Terry
- 2:11Speaker 2: is counter suing for twenty five hundred emotional stress. Right, so,
- 2:15Speaker 2: Rayka comes in the courtroom. She's a giant cross necklace on, yes,
- 2:19Speaker 2: really big cross necklace on. She's like, you're on a
- 2:22Speaker 2: Prior to this incident, I did not know miss Clay.
- 2:25Speaker 2: But during this incident she was in a drunken stupor.
- 2:28Speaker 2: She was kind of like a Hannibal lecter because she
- 2:30Speaker 2: bit her boyfriend's finger off. Now, if you think that
- 2:33Speaker 2: we're going to hear more about that, we're not.
- 2:37Speaker 1: They don't go back to the bitten finger at all
- 2:40Speaker 1: at all.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Her. Here's the crazy part is is missus Clay Shanteria
- 2:45Speaker 2: her boyfriend are in the courtroom and they're just laughing
- 2:48Speaker 2: at all of this. They're quiet, respectful, laughing.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Like, who cares? Can you see his digits?
- 2:54Speaker 2: No? No, I don't think you can see his digits.
- 2:58Speaker 2: I wasn't looking first. I wasn't looking. Come on, man,
- 3:01Speaker 2: I'm sorry. He's like, it's sitting down over yeah, but
- 3:04Speaker 2: he's like, you know, he didn't. He wasn't like, you know,
- 3:11Speaker 2: do you remember when I'm not I don't know what
- 3:13Speaker 2: I'm doing this sorry. Hall hosted a rebrand of Star
- 3:17Speaker 2: Search and they would wait on the rating and his
- 3:21Speaker 2: tagline was hit me with the digits. It was one
- 3:24Speaker 2: of the worst taglines ever, but he just wrung it out.
- 3:27Speaker 2: For all he was with the digits. He was amazing. No,
- 3:33Speaker 2: he is great.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Yes, of course.
- 3:35Speaker 2: So she literally says, I didn't I didn't know this
- 3:38Speaker 2: miss Clay before the incident, but she was in a
- 3:41Speaker 2: drunken stupor. The whole night she was kind of like
- 3:42Speaker 2: Hannibal Lecter, and she bit her boyfriend's finger off, and
- 3:45Speaker 2: then she says, so, just to bag it up and
- 3:47Speaker 2: give you some more details on this particular day, mister Warren,
- 3:54Speaker 2: mister Warren's father had passed away. Who's mister Warren. That's
- 3:58Speaker 2: what Matthews has. And she goes her boyfriend. Okay, so
- 4:01Speaker 2: miss Sean Terry's boyfriend and never yeah, no, no, it's
- 4:05Speaker 2: not Rickard. Rick Warren did not have a purpose driven
- 4:07Speaker 2: life with a night out with these folks. So, uh,
- 4:11Speaker 2: mister Warren's father had passed away, and he asked me,
- 4:15Speaker 2: I'm his neighbor, asked me and my boyfriend to take
- 4:20Speaker 2: he and his friends downtown to downtown Atlanta to a
- 4:24Speaker 2: strip club so they could blow off some steam because
- 4:26Speaker 2: of how hard the day had been, so how hard
- 4:29Speaker 2: they had been, No, how hard the day had been.
- 4:33Speaker 2: His dad died. I can't believe you asked that clarifying question.
- 4:37Speaker 1: I think we need to take it to the tape
- 4:39Speaker 1: because I'm pretty sure you said no, I did know
- 4:42Speaker 1: how hard they had been, no, how hard the day
- 4:44Speaker 1: had been. Okay, how hard the day had been, how
- 4:49Speaker 1: hard the day had been, how hard the day had been,
- 4:56Speaker 1: how hard they had been. Yeah, no, I got it.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Oh yeah you didn't.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Uh so we were both right.
- 5:02Speaker 2: So we my boyfriend and I, uh no we you
- 5:06Speaker 2: what you heard doesn't make it right. Uh. My boyfriend
- 5:09Speaker 2: and I were like, yeah, we took they paid us money.
- 5:11Speaker 2: We took his friends. He and his friends to his
- 5:13Speaker 2: trip club downtown and uh then at two am we
- 5:16Speaker 2: brought him back. On our way back, they were drunk
- 5:19Speaker 2: and that we were just trying to get him home
- 5:20Speaker 2: stupor Yeah. Uh. An hour or two later after we
- 5:23Speaker 2: dropped them off, they were outside in the yard. You
- 5:25Speaker 2: could see him out there, and I saw mister Warren.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Uh knie miss Clay in the head like a donkey.
- 5:36Speaker 1: It is not funny. It's the way in which she
- 5:39Speaker 1: said it was funny, tried the act itself funny.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Well, what makes it harder to think it's not funny
- 5:44Speaker 2: is is both Sean TERRYA Clay and mister Warren are
- 5:47Speaker 2: both laughing. They're laughing, and She's like, I saw him
- 5:52Speaker 2: knee her in the head like.
- 5:53Speaker 1: A donkey, and I was shocked.
- 5:55Speaker 2: She even got up and walked it off and Matthew
- 5:57Speaker 2: is like, do you call the police, and he's she
- 5:59Speaker 2: said no not at that point, we were just looking
- 6:01Speaker 2: and he said why not? Why don't you call the police.
- 6:04Speaker 2: That's uh, that's assault. Why don't you call the police? Well,
- 6:07Speaker 2: the guy I'm with said that they always fight all
- 6:09Speaker 2: the time and it was no big deal. He's like,
- 6:11Speaker 2: you witness assault. You should have called the police. Why
- 6:13Speaker 2: and you do that? He said, they always do that.
- 6:15Speaker 2: And he's like, okay, uh so you just being nosy,
- 6:17Speaker 2: but you won't call the police. Got it understood? So
- 6:20Speaker 2: she well.
- 6:21Speaker 1: If he called the police sets the end of that's that,
- 6:23Speaker 1: donkey kid, let's see.
- 6:26Speaker 2: The math is like, miss Clay, why are you laughing
- 6:28Speaker 2: over there? This isn't funny. Domestic assault, it's not funny.
- 6:30Speaker 2: And she's like, that's because it didn't happen. Miss Lyons
- 6:33Speaker 2: is a compulsive liar. She's trying to make herself sound better.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Lions is a lion, No, Miss Lions, Yeah, Miss Lyons
- 6:38Speaker 2: is Lyon. She's she's make a lion, take a lion.
- 6:43Speaker 2: She's lying and uh, she's like I've known her for weeks.
- 6:46Speaker 2: In fact, I go to the community college in town.
- 6:48Speaker 2: And I've been paying her to take me to college
- 6:51Speaker 2: for weeks, so I've known her for a long time,
- 6:53Speaker 2: like at least three weeks before this incident, A long time.
- 6:55Speaker 2: This is Lions is like, that's a lie. Uh, She's like,
- 6:58Speaker 2: I stayed directly across this treet from her. How do
- 7:00Speaker 2: you not know who's across the street from her? I
- 7:03Speaker 2: paid her to give me rides all the time. And
- 7:06Speaker 2: Matt's like, all right.
- 7:07Speaker 1: This is easy.
- 7:07Speaker 2: It's an easy light to figure out somebody's lying big time.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Miss Lions, you don't know her. I have no clue
- 7:12Speaker 2: what she's talking about. Uh no, And Sean Terry's like, yeah, no,
- 7:17Speaker 2: she gave me right, She's like, no, she didn't. So
- 7:20Speaker 2: then Miss Lion's like, well, uh, she's outside. They're outside fighting.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Then all of a sudden, she starts throwing rocks at
- 7:26Speaker 2: my car. I don't know why she's throwing rocks in
- 7:28Speaker 2: my car. Start throwing rocks in my car, Her card
- 7:30Speaker 2: in donkey kigger, putting my clothes on, calling nine to
- 7:34Speaker 2: one one matthis, Oh, now you're gonna call the police.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Of course, she went by the mailbox, got a bigger
- 7:39Speaker 2: rock and threw it in my car and it shattered
- 7:41Speaker 2: all over my car. I'm on the phone with the police,
- 7:45Speaker 2: and then she starts walking off, and so my boyfriend
- 7:48Speaker 2: chases after her to stop her from walking off. She
- 7:51Speaker 2: turns around, she spits in his face. He spits in
- 7:54Speaker 2: her face. Oh, they said, y'all need to stop that
- 7:55Speaker 2: right now, Nicky. And then Miss Clay came over to
- 7:58Speaker 2: confront me, and she starts to to trying to fight me,
- 8:01Speaker 2: and I've about had enough. And at this point Mathis goes,
- 8:05Speaker 2: miss Clay, did this happened? Miss Clay's like, no, none
- 8:07Speaker 2: of that happened. Her and her boyfriend took two cars
- 8:10Speaker 2: to take us downtown. They picked us up in two cars.
- 8:12Speaker 2: She has a little Volkswagen Beetle. He has a truck
- 8:14Speaker 2: that I wasn't even in her car. I was in
- 8:16Speaker 2: the truck. We came back, they dropped us off. Her
- 8:19Speaker 2: boyfriend didn't want to park in her car in his
- 8:21Speaker 2: driveway because his truck was there. She asked me if
- 8:24Speaker 2: she could park her car in my driveway and I said, yeah,
- 8:28Speaker 2: yeah you can. And her and her boyfriend are fighting, fussing,
- 8:31Speaker 2: arguing constantly. So when we finally get to the house.
- 8:35Speaker 2: Her boyfriend parks the car in the driveway, and I
- 8:38Speaker 2: let her park her car in my driveway. We get inside.
- 8:41Speaker 2: First of all, I don't even drink. I don't know
- 8:44Speaker 2: if I believe that, but I don't even drink. That's
- 8:45Speaker 2: first of all. But we get inside. I turned the
- 8:48Speaker 2: perch light on, and I'm trying to be there for
- 8:50Speaker 2: my family. She comes over, gets in her car and
- 8:53Speaker 2: just sits there, just sits there in her car. And
- 8:56Speaker 2: then she comes out and yells at us to stay
- 8:59Speaker 2: out of her business. And I was even in her business,
- 9:02Speaker 2: and so we start arguing. In my yard is where
- 9:04Speaker 2: we start arguing. So then Mathis is like, uh, miss,
- 9:09Speaker 2: you know whatever?
- 9:10Speaker 1: Was this true?
- 9:10Speaker 2: And she's like, She's like, I thought you didn't know her.
- 9:12Speaker 2: She's like, I didn't know her until this night. He goes,
- 9:14Speaker 2: but you said you didn't know her at all, and
- 9:16Speaker 2: you drove her to the club. I just am not
- 9:19Speaker 2: sure I believe any of your story. She's like, but
- 9:22Speaker 2: you're on it. This is the first time I've met her.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Why would she give her a ride to the club
- 9:26Speaker 1: if she didn't know her.
- 9:26Speaker 2: I don't really know what to do here because we're
- 9:30Speaker 2: gonna have a first year on the gable.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Oh you're not gonna get to.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Guess his ruling because literally, at this point he goes
- 9:36Speaker 2: I don't believe a word she's saying. I'm throwing out
- 9:38Speaker 2: your case. He doesn't give there's nothing else. He just
- 9:43Speaker 2: is like he goes through, like, I think you lied
- 9:44Speaker 2: about knowing her. I think you lied about the incident.
- 9:47Speaker 2: I think you lied about the assault. I think you
- 9:49Speaker 2: lied about.
- 9:49Speaker 1: All of it.
- 9:49Speaker 2: I don't believe a word you're saying. So none of
- 9:51Speaker 2: this happened, which means you don't get an emotional distress.
- 9:53Speaker 2: I'm throwing it out, get out of my courtroom, and
- 9:56Speaker 2: I feel like I wasted ten minutes of my time.
- 9:57Speaker 1: What about the uh the counter counter is gone?
- 10:01Speaker 2: That's emotional distress. The two thousand that she sued forwards
- 10:04Speaker 2: for a car, not getting it, not getting the counter.
- 10:07Speaker 2: We don't hear any more about a bitten finger ten
- 10:09Speaker 2: minutes down the drain.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Well that's unfortunate.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Yeah, real bad. But you know you can mark the
- 10:13Speaker 2: tape here. It's the first time we didn't have an
- 10:15Speaker 2: actual like, what do you think happened? I would have
- 10:18Speaker 2: loved to have thoughts, but now I don't. I would
- 10:21Speaker 2: have loved to have thoughts.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Yes, of course, let's say it to Judge Ross because
- 10:24Speaker 1: he never disappoints. Because here's the thing about him is
- 10:27Speaker 1: a lot of people don't know this. But yeah, so
- 10:30Speaker 1: a lot of people think the justice is like it's
- 10:34Speaker 1: hard to understand, hard to understand, almost like it's for
- 10:36Speaker 1: it concept not not in judgments. It's court justice, isn't
- 10:41Speaker 1: it is not. I want to introduce you to Claire Benton.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Claire Benton, who is suing Violet Cliburne for three hundred.
- 10:52Speaker 2: Dollars whoa big money? Are you ready? I'm ready.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Claire says that she is seeking reimbursement for a wedding
- 11:01Speaker 1: dress train that Violet caused damage. Okay, Violet was a
- 11:08Speaker 1: bridesmaid at Claire's wedding. Violet says that she was thrilled, thrilled,
- 11:14Speaker 1: thrilled to be asked to be in the wedding. Claire
- 11:18Speaker 1: says that two days before the wedding, they decide, well,
- 11:21Speaker 1: they had planned to do the photo shoot that you
- 11:25Speaker 1: would normally do after a wedding, so they just kind
- 11:28Speaker 1: of want to get ahead of it. So two days
- 11:30Speaker 1: before the wedding, wedding dress on, bridesmaids all made up
- 11:34Speaker 1: and done. The grooms and the grooms boys are all there.
- 11:38Speaker 1: Everybody's there, great photos the boys, that's exactly right. So
- 11:42Speaker 1: they're trying to knock out these pictures ahead, the groom
- 11:45Speaker 1: and the grooms boys, the grooms, the grooms, you know
- 11:51Speaker 1: what I'm saying. So they're all there, and everybody's in
- 11:55Speaker 1: their dresses and what they're supposed to be wearing. Now,
- 11:59Speaker 1: one thing that you need to know, and we find
- 12:02Speaker 1: this out right now, is that Violet dated Claire's now
- 12:08Speaker 1: husband while they were in college for two years. His
- 12:13Speaker 1: name's Henry. Violet says that she was dating Henry when
- 12:16Speaker 1: she and Claire met each other, and after breaking up,
- 12:20Speaker 1: Claire gets asked out by Henry and she goes to
- 12:24Speaker 1: check with Violet that it's okay. That she says yes,
- 12:28Speaker 1: and Violet says that it was fine and that the
- 12:30Speaker 1: breakup happened, it was peaceful, and that she honestly was
- 12:36Speaker 1: fine with her going out with Henry. Now, Violet says
- 12:41Speaker 1: that at the photo shoots, here's where things get a
- 12:44Speaker 1: little bit murky, a little little bit, little little tension
- 12:49Speaker 1: here Violea says that at the photo shoot, Henry did
- 12:52Speaker 1: a little I don't know, like a I have some
- 12:56Speaker 1: things I'd like to say, and he brings some gifts
- 13:00Speaker 1: like memorabilia from their relationship, uh to like give her like, hey,
- 13:06Speaker 1: here's like my when we first met, and here's the
- 13:09Speaker 1: blah blah blah. One of the things that he gives
- 13:11Speaker 1: her is a teddy Bear. Now, the problem with this
- 13:17Speaker 1: tedding bear teddy bear is that tedding tedding bear is
- 13:24Speaker 1: that he actually gave that teddy bear to Violet first,
- 13:30Speaker 1: Henry and then after breakup, gives the teddy bear back
- 13:34Speaker 1: and gives its new girlfriend Claire. Now Claire didn't know
- 13:40Speaker 1: any of this. Claire didn't know that it's just a
- 13:42Speaker 1: second hand teddy by the way, amazing, yes, really good,
- 13:49Speaker 1: really engaged, just this phenomenal, really engaged with the crowd,
- 13:55Speaker 1: a lot of crowd work. So so Claire says she
- 14:02Speaker 1: didn't know about it. So Ross says asks, Violet, did
- 14:07Speaker 1: you tell Claire about this teddy Bear? Like once you
- 14:12Speaker 1: see the bear, are you like, hey, I'm bothered? Like
- 14:16Speaker 1: how this bear to Violet and then took it back
- 14:19Speaker 1: took it back or maybe she gave it back. I
- 14:22Speaker 1: want you're th yeah, this is exactly right, and he's like, well,
- 14:24Speaker 1: I'm not going to throw that regift. This bad boy
- 14:27Speaker 1: regift it to her friend. So she's basically like, how Claire,
- 14:32Speaker 1: how did you find out that Violets had this, you know,
- 14:36Speaker 1: bear and all this stuff. And she's like one of
- 14:38Speaker 1: the other bridesmaids told me about it. And she's like okay,
- 14:42Speaker 1: well how He's like, how did she know? And apparently
- 14:45Speaker 1: when she sees the bear. When Violet sees the bear,
- 14:49Speaker 1: she just breaks down starts crying oh boy, and uh
- 14:54Speaker 1: so another bridesmaid goes to check on her, and she
- 14:58Speaker 1: claims that Claire's just over there, like I'm sorry, the
- 15:01Speaker 1: Violet's over there being like Claire stole my boyfriend, blah
- 15:04Speaker 1: by my bear and blah blah blah. So now you
- 15:08Speaker 1: might be wondering the three hundred dollars where what do
- 15:11Speaker 1: we get it? What do we get out here? Hey? Yes?
- 15:14Speaker 1: So Claire says that the wedding dress that she was
- 15:18Speaker 1: wearing had a train on it. She says that Violet
- 15:23Speaker 1: stepped on it with her heel and it ripped it.
- 15:28Speaker 1: And she believes that in a emotional frenzy. She did
- 15:34Speaker 1: it on purpose. Yeah, there was some like she did
- 15:37Speaker 1: it because she was angry. Yes, Violet says that's not
- 15:39Speaker 1: the case. It was an accident. But after this happens,
- 15:47Speaker 1: Claire has just found out that Violet's emotional about the
- 15:52Speaker 1: bear and is telling people that Claire stole her boyfriend.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Then the tear happens. So in front of the entire
- 16:01Speaker 1: wedding part Oh no, Claire kicks her out of the
- 16:05Speaker 1: wedding during the wedding. No, this is two days prior.
- 16:08Speaker 2: This is the photo shoa, okay, photo shoot. Remember two
- 16:11Speaker 2: days prior, kicks her out of the wedding. Sure, she
- 16:13Speaker 2: wasn't in her wedding. She was not in the wedding.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Oh my gosh. So Ross is like, okay, Violet, can
- 16:22Speaker 1: I ask you how much you paid for your bridesmaid dress?
- 16:25Speaker 1: And she says yes, the dress was three hundred dollars.
- 16:28Speaker 1: So the train, the three hundred dollars all that.
- 16:30Speaker 2: Listen. Justice isn't a foreign concept. So just to just
- 16:34Speaker 2: to catch you up, I don't need to be okay,
- 16:37Speaker 2: just under a foreign concept. Kevin Ross is gonna do boss.
- 16:41Speaker 2: Ross is going to do the thing that's normal. Here,
- 16:44Speaker 2: you paid three hundred, you cost three hundred. Everybody's fine,
- 16:48Speaker 2: everybody's even more good to go out the door.
- 16:51Speaker 1: He does agree with you. Okay, here's what he does.
- 16:55Speaker 1: Because of the law, justice is a foreign concept here,
- 16:58Speaker 1: he says, listen or, Violet, you owe Claire three hundred dollars.
- 17:05Speaker 1: I don't care if you did it on purpose or not.
- 17:07Speaker 1: You did destroy her property. Therefore you have to.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Figure also, is Violet three hundred dollars? This is what
- 17:14Speaker 2: he says. Violet, Now you need to sue her. You
- 17:21Speaker 2: didn't come in here with a countersuit, so I can't
- 17:23Speaker 2: give you three hundred dollars. But what I can tell
- 17:26Speaker 2: you is, if you do this whole thing over again
- 17:28Speaker 2: and you sue her, I would give you three hundred
