- 0:00Vox Liturgica: The Propers of the day according to the 1962 Roman Missal. A Feria of the ninth Sunday after Pentecost, July 27 in the year of our Lord 2026.
- 0:22At Nicomedia, says the Roman Martyrology, was murdered Saint Pantalian, a doctor who, having been arrested on account of his faith by order of the emperor Maximian, was tortured on the rack and burned with flaming torches. He was consoled in his torments by an apparition of our Lord. The sword put an end to his glorious combat.
- 0:51This was under Diocletian about the year of our Lord 03/2003. Saint Pantalian is numbered by the Greeks among the great martyrs. Medical men honor him after Saint Luke as their principal patron. He is one of the 14 auxiliary saints. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.
- 1:25The Introit. Behold, God is my helper, and the Lord is the protector of my soul. Turn back the evils upon mine enemies and cut them off in thy truth. O Lord, my protector, save me, O God, by thy name and deliver me in thy strength.
- 1:53Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost as it was in the beginning is now and will be through all ages of ages. Amen. Behold, God is my helper, and the Lord is the protector of my soul. Turn back the evils upon mine enemies and cut them off in thy truth, O Lord, my protector. The Collect, let us pray.
- 2:31Let thy merciful ears, O Lord, be open to the prayers of thy suppliant people and that thou mayest grant their desire to those that seek, make them ask such things as please thee. A commemoration of Saint Pantalian. Grant we beseech thee, O Almighty God, that by the intercession of blessed Pantalian, thy martyr, we may be both delivered from all adversities of the body and cleansed from all evil thoughts of the mind. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen.
- 3:25Lesson from the first letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians. Brethren, we were not to set our hearts, as some of them set their hearts, on forbidden things. You were not to turn idolatrous as some of them did. So we read, the people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to take their pleasure. We were not to commit fornication as some of them committed fornication when 23,000 of them were killed in one day.
- 4:09We were not to try the patience of Christ as some of them tried it, the men who were slain by the serpents. Nor were you to complain as some of them complained till the destroying angel slew them. When all this happened to them, it was a symbol. The record of it was written as a warning to us in whom history has reached its fulfillment. And it means that he who thinks he stands firmly should beware of a fall.
- 4:48I pray that no temptation may come upon you that is beyond man's strength. Not that God will play you false. He will not allow you to be tempted beyond your powers. Within the temptation itself, he will ordain the issue of it and enable you to hold your own. The gradual.
- 5:15O Lord, our Lord, how admirable is thy name in the whole earth, for thy magnificence is elevated above the heavens. Alleluia, alleluia. Deliver me from mine enemies, O God, and defend me from them that rise up against me. Alleluia. A continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Luke.
- 5:48At that time as Jesus drew near and caught sight of the city, he wept over it and said, ah, if thou too couldst understand above all in this day that is granted thee the ways that can bring thee peace, As it is, they are hidden from thy sight. The days will come upon thee when thy enemies will fence thee round about, and encircle thee, and press thee hard on every side, and bring down and ruin both thee and thy children that are in thee, not leaving one stone of thee upon another, and all because thou didst not recognize the time of my visiting thee. Then he went into the temple and began driving out those who sold and bought there. It is written, he told them, my house is a house of prayer, and you have made it into a den of thieves. And he taught in the temple daily.
- 7:03The offertory. How plain are the duties which the Lord enjoins, the treasure of a man's heart, and his awards sweeter than the honey dripping from its comb. By these I thy servant live. The secret. Grant to us we beseech thee, O Lord, that we may worthily frequent these mysteries.
- 7:33For as often as the memorial of this victim is celebrated, the work of our redemption is wrought. A commemoration of Saint Pantalian. May our devotion be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, and may it be rendered salutary for us by the prayer of him for whose festival it is offered through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. The common preface.
- 8:18Just it is indeed and fitting, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, everlasting God, through whom the angels praise thy majesty, the dominions worship it, the powers stand in awe, the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. We entreat thee that thou command it be permitted us to join with them in confessing thee, while we say with lowly praise. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts, the heavens and the earth are full of thy glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
- 9:18Hosanna in the highest. The communion. He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives continually in me, and I in him, says the Lord. The post communion. Let us pray.
- 9:44May the communion of thy sacrament we beseech thee, O Lord, bring us cleansing and grant us unity. A commemoration of Saint Pantalian. Refreshed by participation in the sacred gift, we beseech thee, O Lord our God, that through the intercession of blessed Pantalian, thy martyr, we may ever experience the effect of the worship we perform through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. In the name of the father and of the son and of the holy ghost.
- 10:39Amen. Let us bless the lord. Saint Pantalian, pray for us.
