Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 3: Hi.
- 0:00Speaker 1: My name is Bailey Spin. I'm a rock musician from
- 0:03Speaker 1: Los Angeles, California. Started my journey on TikTok and YouTube
- 0:07Speaker 1: and now I've released an EP and an album and
- 0:10Speaker 1: I'm about to release a song called Voodoo on Friday,
- 0:13Speaker 1: which is a darker metal inspired track, and I'm really
- 0:17Speaker 1: excited to chat.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Was that someone who inspired you to make FOODO? It's not.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Why did you decide to make it like that?
- 0:28Speaker 1: I decided to make Voodoo because I had an old
- 0:32Speaker 1: friend who was doing some shady stuff and I wanted
- 0:36Speaker 1: to get my feelings out there, and I really like
- 0:39Speaker 1: to write songs to get over it. And you know,
- 0:42Speaker 1: we've all had a bad friend once in a while,
- 0:44Speaker 1: so I wanted to write it all down and get
- 0:47Speaker 1: it off my chest. And I love making heavier music,
- 0:50Speaker 1: so I wanted it to feel a little spooky and scary,
- 0:53Speaker 1: a kind of baby doll vibes, and I made like
- 0:56Speaker 1: a Teddy Bear for the visual stuff that's coming out
- 1:00Speaker 1: very soon. So I just wanted to talk about my
- 1:03Speaker 1: experience with that person and how they were kind of
- 1:06Speaker 1: stalking me online. It's very easy to stock people on
- 1:09Speaker 1: the internet nowadays.
- 1:12Speaker 2: What made you want to become a single.
- 1:16Speaker 1: I always loved music growing up. I started playing instruments
- 1:20Speaker 1: super young. In fifth grade, I played the viola. I
- 1:23Speaker 1: wasn't very good at that, and then I started playing
- 1:25Speaker 1: the flute. And then when I was in band, they
- 1:28Speaker 1: said they needed more people to play brass instruments, so
- 1:30Speaker 1: I started playing the trombone. I also played the ukulele
- 1:33Speaker 1: and the guitar, and I loved musical theater. And so
- 1:37Speaker 1: when I started on TikTok and YouTube, I was too
- 1:39Speaker 1: scared to post my singing voice online. And it's very
- 1:43Speaker 1: nerve wracking to be that vulnerable. So I waited a while,
- 1:46Speaker 1: and then once I built up my confidence, I started
- 1:49Speaker 1: making my own songs and releasing them and really diving
- 1:53Speaker 1: into it.
- 1:56Speaker 3: What was the inspiration for most of your songs?
- 2:01Speaker 1: I like to write most of my songs about stuff
- 2:03Speaker 1: that's happened in my personal life, whether it be a breakup,
- 2:07Speaker 1: maybe it's a friendship breakup, or talking about, you know,
- 2:10Speaker 1: people who have done me wrong. A lot of my
- 2:12Speaker 1: songs come from a very personal place, even the biggest one,
- 2:15Speaker 1: happy ending. I'm definitely a hopeless romantic. Haven't had a
- 2:19Speaker 1: boyfriend in a very long time, so I wrote it
- 2:22Speaker 1: about feeling super single and kind of like there was
- 2:25Speaker 1: no one out there for me, and I wanted to
- 2:27Speaker 1: feel sad like a Disney movie, and I like to
- 2:31Speaker 1: get everything off my chest in my songs.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Who's a singer you hope to collaborate with in the fatuell.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Oh?
- 2:42Speaker 1: I would love to collaborate with a ton of people.
- 2:45Speaker 1: I love Evanescence so much. I think Amy Lee would
- 2:48Speaker 1: be the top of my list, just because I'm a
- 2:50Speaker 1: very big fan of her. Also Poppy. I love Maggie Lindeman.
- 2:55Speaker 1: She was a huge inspiration to me when I was
- 2:57Speaker 1: starting making music, and I've met her and she's very nice,
- 3:00Speaker 1: so she would be a very cool collab to have too.
- 3:03Speaker 1: There's definitely a ton of people.
- 3:06Speaker 3: Is it true that your music is based around the
- 3:09Speaker 3: two thousands, pop punk and love lives?
- 3:13Speaker 1: Yeah, for sure. That was a bunch of my inspirations
- 3:16Speaker 1: starting out. I loved all of that stuff, and it's
- 3:19Speaker 1: how I got into rock music. I loved Avril Levine
- 3:22Speaker 1: and even I'm a huge Olivia Rodrigo fan, so I
- 3:25Speaker 1: loved her rock and I wanted to make something similar
- 3:28Speaker 1: that was a little bit girly and fun. It makes
- 3:31Speaker 1: you want to dance but still rock music. So I
- 3:34Speaker 1: took inspiration from a ton of two thousand spands like
- 3:38Speaker 1: fly Leaf and Paramore too.
- 3:40Speaker 3: What asson ward you'd like to say to inspiring thing
- 3:43Speaker 3: its or people mind to see you as an idol
- 3:45Speaker 3: or would like to become you in the future.
- 3:50Speaker 1: I would say to chase after your dreams every single day,
- 3:53Speaker 1: because the way I started on the internet was just
- 3:56Speaker 1: by posting every single day and not giving up even
- 3:59Speaker 1: when things seemed practically impossible. I've had so many moments
- 4:02Speaker 1: online where I thought it was the end of my
- 4:05Speaker 1: career and maybe people were being really mean to me,
- 4:07Speaker 1: but I always say, do not listen to them. As
- 4:10Speaker 1: hard as it can be when somebody's making fun of you,
- 4:13Speaker 1: you just have to know what you want and follow
- 4:15Speaker 1: your dream no matter what it takes. Because I've definitely
- 4:18Speaker 1: gotten there, and I encourage other people to follow and
- 4:21Speaker 1: do whatever they want. If it's music, art, maybe you
- 4:24Speaker 1: want to be a YouTuber. You just got to keep
- 4:27Speaker 1: trying and find what you like and what works for you.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Is that goal you're watch working to watch in the teacher.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Yeah, I think one of my goals is I really
- 4:40Speaker 1: want to play a music festival. I've been to a
- 4:42Speaker 1: lot of them, but I haven't gotten to play a
- 4:45Speaker 1: music festival yet. And so I've really had that on
- 4:48Speaker 1: my vision board and my dream board for a really
- 4:51Speaker 1: long time. So hopefully someone will see me. Maybe I
- 4:54Speaker 1: Warp Tour, Welcome to Rockville when we were young, any
- 4:58Speaker 1: of them, I'd be very excited to play. Maybe Coach Ella.
- 5:03Speaker 3: It's there gonna be a music video for Food, and
- 5:07Speaker 3: if so, where would you like it to be placed at.
- 5:11Speaker 1: I don't have a music video plan for Voodoo this
- 5:14Speaker 1: time around. There might be one when I drop an album.
- 5:17Speaker 1: But for Voodoo, I did do a cover art shoot,
- 5:20Speaker 1: and I wanted to pick a really scary location, like
- 5:23Speaker 1: a vintage room with the wallpaper kind of peeling off,
- 5:27Speaker 1: and you know, there's some mysterious stains all over the place.
- 5:31Speaker 1: It's a little grimy and scary, looking like a horror movie.
- 5:34Speaker 1: So I always like to have really spooky sets, and
- 5:37Speaker 1: I like to dress very pretty, So I like the
- 5:39Speaker 1: contrast of having a spooky, scary background and then be
- 5:43Speaker 1: wearing like a beautiful skirt on top of it. Thank
- 5:46Speaker 1: you very much, of course, thank you
