Latest / Brandon Fogal Evolution / #111 - Is the NFL Just High School All Over Again for Shedeur Sanders?
Transcript
- 0:00So did Shadur Sanders just step back into high school?
- 0:04Is it high school all over again for him? I think of the Mean Girls and all
- 0:08of the popular teen movies that are out there.
- 0:11And it just reminds me of this situation that he just experienced in the NFL
- 0:15draft of how all of these GMs and coaches just seemingly colluded together and
- 0:23decided not to draft this guy.
- 0:25My name is Brandon Fogle. This is Evolution. let's dive into this odd topic.
- 0:31This is the only way that I can make sense of it because Shadur Sanders has so much potential.
- 0:38I mean, you are the son of arguably one of the greatest athletes to have ever lived, Deion Sanders.
- 0:47Let's not forget that. I think of the best athletes ever.
- 0:50You go to Bo Jackson or you go to Deion Sanders, who both of these guys played
- 0:55in two professional sports and were amazing at both.
- 1:01Deion Sanders, he is NFL royalty.
- 1:04So you would think that Shadour has everything on his side coming into the NFL.
- 1:10The only thing that tripped him up, what I would say, the blessing and the curse,
- 1:15which is his father, his father talks.
- 1:18His father says a lot of things, and he put a lot of the NFL aficionados in
- 1:25a terrible position because he said, we are coming to the NFL.
- 1:30My son's coming to the NFL on our terms.
- 1:33I also think of steaming Willie Beeman off of any given Sunday.
- 1:37And I think a lot of coaches out there look at Shadur in this same way that you're a quarterback.
- 1:46You're not a cornerback or a receiver. You're a gosh dang quarterback.
- 1:51You know, Al Pacino, any given Sunday.
- 1:54He wants to go the safe route and play with the guy, the true tried and true white quarterback.
- 2:00You know, I mean, there's that going on in that movie. I don't think it's going
- 2:03on in this drama that we experienced. I don't think there is a racial undertone.
- 2:08I think it was just this guy is coming to our high school and the popular kids,
- 2:14which are the GMs and NFL coaches in the NFL.
- 2:18And they just got together and they they're looking over at what's everyone
- 2:22else doing? What's everyone else doing?
- 2:25Am I going to put myself out on the line and take a chance?
- 2:29Because in their world, it is one season and done.
- 2:33You don't, they don't have enough, they don't, they're, they're given a contract,
- 2:37but it's not really a safe contract to just stake your life on.
- 2:42They're playing almost game by game for their, their, their NFL career and season
- 2:49by season for their NFL career.
- 2:51So they don't want to take a chance. So they're playing the safe route.
- 2:54They're looking at what's the most popular person doing.
- 2:57And if they're passing on them,
- 2:59if they're turning up their nose on Shadour, we'll do it the same way.
- 3:03I know there are more things in place in the NFL draft because people do like
- 3:09they say one thing and they mean another so that they can really trick and they
- 3:13can really sneak up and grab someone. But there was something else going on here.
- 3:17In this NFL draft, it was something beyond any other draft we've ever experienced.
- 3:23Nothing like this has happened where you get to Saturday and it's still interesting.
- 3:28People pretty much tune out after the first night.
- 3:31This one goes into Saturday and people are like, what's going on with your boy Shadur?
- 3:37What's happened? Why is he not selected yet?
- 3:41And then it brings all of this heat and just light and intensity on everyone.
- 3:47Is the NFL doing something? What's going on? And I do see that NFL teams,
- 3:53they do go lockstep, you know?
- 3:55All these people that are underneath the owner, they are, they're playing.
- 4:00It's a job. It's a job for them. It's a business. And it is a business. It has to be a business.
- 4:06Because for them, they're not guaranteed to come back the next week or the next
- 4:11year or anything like that.
- 4:12They have to play it game by game and they have to perform. and they want to
- 4:16control as much as they can.
- 4:18They don't want to stake their NFL coaching life or GM life on this lightning
- 4:25rod, which is Shadur Sanders, because he is a lightning rod.
- 4:29And a lot of people that are lightning rods and are so polarizing,
- 4:33usually it doesn't come from within them.
- 4:36It comes from the outside.
- 4:38People just throw their eyes and their attention on someone for some reason.
- 4:45And we put them in our own narrative, our own story.
- 4:49And you could say, I'm kind of doing that when I see this, because I see this
- 4:52as you walk into high school.
- 4:54I mean, I don't know how old you are right now. You might still be in high school.
- 4:58But like you, everybody, for the most part, knows what it was like to be in
- 5:02high school and you wanted to fit in.
- 5:05You wanted to not go against the grain. You wanted to play it safe in a lot
- 5:10of ways. And then you find that cool teacher, that cool teacher that can give
- 5:14you some wisdom and help you how to cope through what you're going through.
- 5:19And who is that in this whole, this whole fiasco that's happened with Shudeo Sanders?
- 5:24I wanted to think that it was the Browns owner. I was like, he's got to be that cool teacher.
- 5:30I'm starting to think that the Browns owner might be Regina George.
- 5:33He might be Regina George, who is the really, the really popular one that's
- 5:40got some, maybe a little bit, because he passed, he passed up on him just as
- 5:46much as every other NFL team.
- 5:47So how this all plays out, because I cannot see Shadour going to the Browns
- 5:52and that becoming a historic franchise. I cannot see it.
- 5:57But then I'm also a fan of the Chiefs. And how quickly we forget that the Chiefs,
- 6:03for the longest time until Patrick Mahomes came,
- 6:08how many times we had our hearts broken in the playoffs.
- 6:12Year after year. I mean, decades.
- 6:16Decades. But eventually we found our diamond in the roughed or roughed or whatever it is.
- 6:22Rough. And I did not see Patrick Mahomes coming whatsoever. This Shador Sanders
- 6:28has so many different angles to it.
- 6:31What's going to happen with him? Because he is going to be the talk more into the offseason.
- 6:35And as we get to training camp and as we get to the preseason games,
- 6:40can he actually, he's not, he wasn't even the first quarterback drafted on the
- 6:44team that selected him, which is just crazy why they reached out and got him
- 6:49the Browns owner. He was just probably just not even watching the draft.
- 6:53He didn't even know what was going on. I was like, what the.
- 6:56Should we put it into this stupidity? This is stupid.
- 7:01I think all the owners just got together and they went out and had some beers
- 7:04or something and they weren't even watching the draft because owners,
- 7:07maybe that's the reason they're not the ones that are making the choices on
- 7:12what's actually happening down below because they will do something just crazy and outlandish.
- 7:17That's why you always see Jerry Jones. People want to say, man, stay out of it.
- 7:21You don't, the owner doesn't need to be saying something.
- 7:23And also, you know, the Jaguars owner who went out and reached out and grabbed
- 7:27Tim Tebow and brought him in. You could have said it was just a stunt to see
- 7:32him come in and be in a tight end, which was I don't think he should have done that at all.
- 7:36Tim Peepo should have came back as a quarterback.
- 7:39He should have came back as a quarterback. I have to throw that out there.
- 7:43But it was the owner who decided, said, bring him back. Let me try it out.
- 7:49And then it just it was not working. And they had to cut ties.
- 7:53But these owners, they are cowboys. They are wild, wild west guys.
- 7:58But sometimes they go to the saloon and they just hang out
- 8:01and they drink beers and they don't even they don't even watch what's going
- 8:04on until someone just says hey do you know what's going on down in the holla
- 8:09down in the holla go get him go go go get him go get him and he did and he said
- 8:14he got up from his table he went and he said snatch that boy snatch him i cannot
- 8:20even believe he is still out there.
- 8:23This is insane. This is insanity.
- 8:26And he put it into it. But I am, I cannot see him as the cool teacher that's
- 8:31going to impart wisdom to Shador.
- 8:33I can only see him as that popular girl that is going to almost somehow pull
- 8:39everything out from under him because he can only take him so far.
- 8:42He's not going to be the one that's going to be throwing him in the game and calling the plays.
- 8:46It's going to be those other popular kids that are down below that are the coaches and all that.
- 8:52Shadour's got to go out there. He's got to perform. He's got to make him,
- 8:55he's got to make it known why he should be there in the first place.
- 8:59But like, he has got some incredible genes just being born from Deion Sanders.
- 9:06So I am, if, if.
- 9:09Andy Reid had not already the quarterback of his dreams, Patrick Mahomes,
- 9:14he would have grabbed him.
- 9:15There's not a question in my mind he would have grabbed Shadur.
- 9:19Because Andy Reid, he knows I can take the best talent and I can make him the
- 9:24best product available.
- 9:26And he took Patrick Mahomes and did that. He saw that, he saw what nobody else saw.
- 9:32But now he's going to the Browns and it's like, the Browns, I cannot see that becoming Hollywood.
- 9:39So Shadour is going to go in there, put in his time, and I think he will have to mature.
- 9:44He's going to have to mature, and this is going to be a humbling exercise for him, no question.
- 9:49But I think he's going to come away much stronger, much stronger from it than
- 9:54if he would have been a top five pick.
- 9:56If he would have just been a top five pick, everything would have been reaffirmed
- 10:00in his mind that he can come to any, he can decide where I want to go.
- 10:04I can determine my terms and say every team, it would have been Eli Manning,
- 10:11but another version of it.
- 10:13But he didn't, and he didn't get picked in the top 10.
- 10:16He didn't get picked in the first, second, third, fourth round. He went to the fifth.
- 10:19He fell extremely far. So this is the beginning of the saga that is going to
- 10:25be Shadur Sanders because he is a lightning rod and he's going to bring attention where he goes.
- 10:31And I think, I think, I believe he will be great in the NFL and probably not
- 10:36the very first couple of years.
- 10:38He's going to put in his time and it's going to, and I think maybe all the other
- 10:41teams are like, man, that was stupid of them because we're going to get him
- 10:45on the, on the better end because he's going to put, he's going to have to just
- 10:50get beat the heck up when he, where he goes right now.
- 10:53And he's just going to basically have spend a time to mature and he's going
- 10:57to use that as time to mature.
- 10:59So the team that gets him after that is going to be the real lucky one because
- 11:05I cannot see him being just turning around that franchise. I cannot see it.
- 11:10I cannot see it. All right.
- 11:12All right. We'll leave it at that. If you've liked this video,
