- 0:22Speaker 1: Sus and Good morning everybody.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Welcome to the aired podcast. Happy Halloween, Happy Friday. We've
- 1:59Speaker 2: got rain showers and kind of a kind of a
- 2:04Speaker 2: scary forecast for the trigger treaters tonight, if they're even
- 2:10Speaker 2: gonna be out winds and rainsh I think it's beautiful though.
- 2:17Speaker 2: I love looking outside right here on the sidewalk North
- 2:22Speaker 2: Main Street and Berry and just seeing a I don't
- 2:24Speaker 2: know it's a rainy day, but we need the rain.
- 2:27Speaker 2: We need it so badly. I'm jumping in this morning.
- 2:31Speaker 2: We have a lot to get to, a lot of
- 2:36Speaker 2: things to talk about. I've got a special guest, Steve
- 2:39Speaker 2: Cotton is standing by. He's going to be on with
- 2:41Speaker 2: me in just a little bit. We're talking about what's
- 2:44Speaker 2: going on with the FED cut and how that may
- 2:48Speaker 2: or may not affect your wallet. But I'm jumping in
- 2:52Speaker 2: this morning to sports because first and foremost it is
- 2:55Speaker 2: the sports world right now is just on fire logan
- 2:58Speaker 2: loose with me. Good morning, Bud, Good morning JD.
- 3:02Speaker 3: How are we today?
- 3:03Speaker 2: Brother? I couldn't be better. World Series decided tonight between
- 3:08Speaker 2: the Blue Jays and the Dodgers. Where it's in Toronto,
- 3:12Speaker 2: Man Stand, standing room, only tickets you want. You want
- 3:20Speaker 2: to stand tonight. You don't even want to seat, you
- 3:23Speaker 2: want to stand and watch the game. It's a thousand
- 3:27Speaker 2: dollars ticket bud.
- 3:29Speaker 3: That's insane. But I mean for starters, I wouldn't want
- 3:32Speaker 3: to stand, especially if there's a chance that we could
- 3:34Speaker 3: have eighteen or nineteen innings. Again, not like it. He
- 3:37Speaker 3: has a stand for eighteen innings. I think I would
- 3:39Speaker 3: go insane.
- 3:40Speaker 2: But and listen, if you want to be behind home
- 3:44Speaker 2: plate tonight, there's a few seats left. You gotta get
- 3:49Speaker 2: them fast before they're gone. But it's gonna you need
- 3:51Speaker 2: to open up your wallet, Logan because they're twenty grand.
- 3:57Speaker 4: Yeah, I can't say I'm surprised, honestly, it's the world's series,
- 4:00Speaker 4: especially like over in Toronto.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Yeah, not surprising, but I mean it's ridiculous.
- 4:05Speaker 2: It's probably ridiculous, you know, absolutely not. You know me,
- 4:09Speaker 2: You know that I always root for the underdog. You know,
- 4:13Speaker 2: I've been like kind of rooting for the Chase this
- 4:16Speaker 2: whole time. Man, it's like this, we got to talk.
- 4:19Speaker 4: About, well, we got to talk about specifically for the
- 4:22Speaker 4: Blue Jays. We got to talk about that, uh picture kid,
- 4:24Speaker 4: the twenty three year old Lestrange. Yeah, he plays on
- 4:27Speaker 4: the blue Jays' backup. He got sixteen strikeouts?
- 4:31Speaker 3: Was it sixteen strikeouts?
- 4:33Speaker 2: I don't know, man, I just know he's damn good.
- 4:36Speaker 4: Yeah, he's a good and he's he's young, he's good,
- 4:38Speaker 4: and he's he didn't have like much of a postseason,
- 4:42Speaker 4: you know, up until the playoffs, and so you know,
- 4:45Speaker 4: seeing him play like like this is probably a big
- 4:48Speaker 4: deal for him, and in general, it's a big deal
- 4:50Speaker 4: for the Blue Jays.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Because yeah, hell yeah, uh who are you? Are you
- 4:54Speaker 2: going for the for the Chase tonight?
- 4:57Speaker 3: I think, yeah, I think I am with you. I
- 4:59Speaker 3: think the underdogs for sure.
- 5:01Speaker 4: I mean, the Dodgers can still turn this around, but
- 5:03Speaker 4: it would be nice to see the Blue Jays pull
- 5:06Speaker 4: it off.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:08Speaker 4: I think blue Jays could pull it off, especially with
- 5:10Speaker 4: that comeback against Seattle in the Championship round a couple
- 5:14Speaker 4: of weeks ago.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I think. I think hopes were a little dampered
- 5:18Speaker 2: a few days, you know, a few days ago with
- 5:20Speaker 2: the with the Jays. But man, they have they have
- 5:22Speaker 2: come back strong, and the team wants it. The fans
- 5:28Speaker 2: wanted thirty two years Logan, Oh yeah, no, thirty.
- 5:32Speaker 4: Years is making it's a it's almost you know, it's
- 5:35Speaker 4: almost in the same level as when Chicago the Cubs
- 5:37Speaker 4: finally broke their fifty year curse and the Cubs broke
- 5:40Speaker 4: their careers.
- 5:41Speaker 3: A couple of years ago.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Uh, let's talk football. Look at the lineup. Oh my god,
- 5:48Speaker 2: it is soft announced man.
- 5:51Speaker 4: Oh yeah, no, we got a lot of We got
- 5:52Speaker 4: a great set of games this coming week. Honestly, last
- 5:56Speaker 4: night Lamar Jackson stunted on the Dolphins.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Though, yeah, yeah, six amazing.
- 6:04Speaker 4: I'm looking at I'm looking at this list and I
- 6:06Speaker 4: feel bad for Giants right now.
- 6:08Speaker 3: Giants aren't doing too well. They got so many injuries,
- 6:10Speaker 3: so many injuries. They're like a very beat up team
- 6:13Speaker 3: right now.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Who else was who else was playing last night?
- 6:20Speaker 3: In terms of football, Well, it's just well, in terms
- 6:22Speaker 3: of football, it was just one game.
- 6:23Speaker 4: But if we're talking, you know, we had the Boston Bruins, Yeah,
- 6:26Speaker 4: won in overtime last night against the Sabers.
- 6:28Speaker 3: That was a huge, huge win, huge win. They needed
- 6:30Speaker 3: that for sure. They're doing they're actually doing okay, Like
- 6:34Speaker 3: they started off hot, kind of went downhill, but they
- 6:37Speaker 3: kind of came back.
- 6:37Speaker 4: So they're kind of in a good comfortable spot, I
- 6:39Speaker 4: would say right now. But and then in terms of
- 6:43Speaker 4: like if we jump over to our friends over at
- 6:45Speaker 4: the NBA, I mean we had Spurs and Heat, San
- 6:49Speaker 4: Antonio being the Heat twenty oh seven.
- 6:51Speaker 3: To one oh one, Bucks and Warriors game.
- 6:55Speaker 4: Bucks beat the Warriors one twenty one ten. Uh, Thunder
- 6:59Speaker 4: play the Wizards one twenty seven to one oh eight.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Thunder one that one.
- 7:02Speaker 4: And then the Magic beat the Hornets one twenty three
- 7:05Speaker 4: to one oh seven. So the NBA is also really
- 7:07Speaker 4: doing well right now.
- 7:08Speaker 3: His a lot going on there too, going into.
- 7:11Speaker 4: Games like five and six so early in the season
- 7:15Speaker 4: for sure.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Yeah, uh, what else? Anything else?
- 7:20Speaker 3: I mean, the one big.
- 7:21Speaker 4: Topic I guess we could talk about is like we
- 7:23Speaker 4: could talk about Austin Reeves on the Lakers. How Austin
- 7:26Speaker 4: Reeves came out of nowhere and has been helping the
- 7:29Speaker 4: Lakers keep a steady pace with Lebron James and Luka
- 7:31Speaker 4: Doncic both being injured and so Lakers have actually kept
- 7:35Speaker 4: themselves pretty well for being you know, missing their two superstars. Celtics,
- 7:42Speaker 4: I mean, Celtics aren't doing too well right now without
- 7:44Speaker 4: Jason Tatum.
- 7:45Speaker 3: He's still out for the whole year due to his
- 7:47Speaker 3: care last year he.
- 7:49Speaker 4: Had during the championship, he had that tear, and so
- 7:51Speaker 4: he's gonna be out the entirety of the season.
- 7:53Speaker 3: He's not expected to return until next season, which that's
- 7:57Speaker 3: a long time. That's a long time without your star player. Yeah, man,
- 8:01Speaker 3: And there's also the question of.
- 8:03Speaker 4: Like when he comes back, is he gonna you know,
- 8:05Speaker 4: how bad is this injury gonna impact him?
- 8:08Speaker 3: You know, is he going to have.
- 8:11Speaker 4: You know, is he gonna come back and play as
- 8:12Speaker 4: good as he was or is he gonna come back
- 8:14Speaker 4: and end up like what happened to Derrick Rose.
- 8:17Speaker 3: You know.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Now you're gonna be You're gonna be on the air
- 8:20Speaker 2: tomorrow morning.
- 8:21Speaker 3: Oh of course, I am JD. You can find me, Actually,
- 8:24Speaker 3: you can find me tomorrow Athletics. Ten am. I'll be
- 8:27Speaker 3: live here on aired.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Out sounds great, man, look forward to it.
- 8:32Speaker 3: Awesome. Thanks forward to as well. Thank you, thank you
- 8:35Speaker 3: so much. You guys have a great day.
- 8:37Speaker 2: Yeah. The lineup on Sunday, look at this forty nine Ers, Giants, Chargers, Titans, Vikings, Lions, Falcons, Pats, Colt, Steelers, Broncos, Texans, Bears, Bengals, Panthers, Packers, Saints, Rams, Jaggs, Raiders,
- 8:54Speaker 2: Chiefs and the Bills. That'll be one to to not miss,
- 8:58Speaker 2: and the Seahawks and the Commander's incredible. Yeah, we have
- 9:04Speaker 2: some Fremont news to get to. We got some headlines
- 9:07Speaker 2: that I promise we'll get to. We'll get to all
- 9:11Speaker 2: of it. There's a there's a lot of stuff going
- 9:15Speaker 2: on this morning that we're gonna get to. Get in
- 9:17Speaker 2: some comments here, A little bit of disappointment in your
- 9:21Speaker 2: host of the Aired Out podcast this morning myself that
- 9:26Speaker 2: that I'm not not wearing a Halloween costume. I have
- 9:32Speaker 2: to I have to tell you that's actually an intentional decision.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Yesterday Bob Ross came in here and really shook things
- 9:43Speaker 2: up and not only scared me, but he scared my
- 9:49Speaker 2: co host yesterday, and he scared some some folks out
- 9:53Speaker 2: on the sidewalk. And I'm just trying to decompress, frankly,
- 9:58Speaker 2: and just relax and get it, get it in check.
- 10:04Speaker 2: I mean, Bob Ross, the subject of so many nightmares. Listen,
- 10:14Speaker 2: the Federal Reserve has ah cut borrowing costs for the
- 10:22Speaker 2: second time in a row. They did this on Wednesday
- 10:27Speaker 2: and This decision has come amid intense pressure from President
- 10:36Speaker 2: Donald Trump, who has repeatedly called on FED shared to
- 10:40Speaker 2: her own Powell to drastically lower rates, arguing that it
- 10:45Speaker 2: would make it easier for businesses and consumers to borrow
- 10:49Speaker 2: and boost the economy. This has been, for some kind
- 10:56Speaker 2: of a big story that we've been paying attention to.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Cotton is a financial strategist who has a multi faceted
- 11:05Speaker 2: career and investments in business and government and public affairs
- 11:09Speaker 2: for more than forty eight years. He's the president of
- 11:13Speaker 2: Cotton Wealth Management Associates. Steve, Good morning, Good morning Steve.
- 11:18Speaker 5: Here are y'all man?
- 11:20Speaker 2: You know, I am so so honored to have you
- 11:24Speaker 2: on this morning. Does the rate cut provide a psychological
- 11:31Speaker 2: boost to consumers in the stock market? Do you and
- 11:34Speaker 2: do you think that some media outlets are making this
- 11:38Speaker 2: a bigger deal than what it really is?
- 11:42Speaker 5: Well, it is a big deal. It would normally be
- 11:45Speaker 5: a big deal if we were in more normal times
- 11:47Speaker 5: and we weren't amidst the government's shutdown, the FED has
- 11:51Speaker 5: basically pivoted from a focus on fighting inflation to a
- 11:56Speaker 5: focus on sustaining, you know, stable employment conditions in the country,
- 12:02Speaker 5: and we've seen a softening in the employment base. You know,
- 12:05Speaker 5: we've not seen any indicators we're headed for a recession
- 12:08Speaker 5: at all. But the Fed has now cut rates twice
- 12:12Speaker 5: in a row. They're going to have another Federal Open
- 12:15Speaker 5: Market Committee meeting in December. The betting is they will
- 12:19Speaker 5: cut another twenty five basis points, which is a quarter
- 12:22Speaker 5: of one percent, maybe taking our federal funds rate down
- 12:26Speaker 5: to about three point seventy five to four percent. This
- 12:30Speaker 5: is good in all circumstances. It helps reduce borrowing costs.
- 12:37Speaker 5: It's not good for people that are sitting in CDs
- 12:40Speaker 5: or have cash in bank checking or savings accounts because
- 12:43Speaker 5: the banks lower their rates what they pay for those.
- 12:46Speaker 5: But it's good for business borrowing, for consumer auto loan borrowing,
- 12:51Speaker 5: things like that. But the thing that offsets what would
- 12:54Speaker 5: normally be very positive action is this government shutdown that
- 12:59Speaker 5: persisted thirty five I think, and so it kind of
- 13:03Speaker 5: offsets some of that good news of the rate cut.
- 13:07Speaker 2: Yeah, it's everybody's talking about this this morning. I mean
- 13:11Speaker 2: everybody and their brother. Credit cards one of the main
- 13:16Speaker 2: sources of unsecured borrowing that so many of us have.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Sixty percent of credit card users carry debt from month
- 13:23Speaker 2: to month, according to a March report that just came
- 13:26Speaker 2: out from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Are
- 13:29Speaker 2: you surprised to hear that?
- 13:31Speaker 5: No, not at all. And I think with the government shutdown,
- 13:34Speaker 5: you're going to have more and more people. They're about
- 13:37Speaker 5: seven hundred and fifty thousand federal workers affected directly or
- 13:41Speaker 5: indirectly by this shutdown. And we're heading into the Thanksgiving
- 13:46Speaker 5: travel season, the Christmas buying season, vacation planning season, and
- 13:51Speaker 5: a lot of people have to resort to credit cards.
- 13:56Speaker 5: But the thing that concerns me is if people are
- 13:59Speaker 5: a day or an hour late on in their monthly
- 14:03Speaker 5: credit card payments, the credit card companies have systems that
- 14:07Speaker 5: jack them up automatically into a penalty rate that's just obscene.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Yeah, mortgages probably less impacted by the FED, but still
- 14:17Speaker 2: though making up the lion's share of consumer debt. Steve,
- 14:22Speaker 2: how do you think that'll be affected here?
- 14:26Speaker 5: Well, there is not a direct one to one correlation
- 14:28Speaker 5: between the Federal funds rate that banks charge other banks
- 14:33Speaker 5: for money and thirty year fixed mortgage rates. It's an
- 14:38Speaker 5: indirect relationship. When the FED cuts rates that does help
- 14:43Speaker 5: the environment for the interest rates on long term mortgages,
- 14:48Speaker 5: But there are so many other factors that influence mortgage rates, demand, supply,
- 14:54Speaker 5: all kinds of things. But generally speaking, federal rate cuts
- 15:00Speaker 5: a good thing. They're helpful. The Fed is sustaining the
- 15:03Speaker 5: momentum we're seeing toward lower borrowing costs, and that is positive.
- 15:07Speaker 2: All right. So I think what you're saying here, to
- 15:11Speaker 2: wrap up in a nutshell, is maybe a little bit
- 15:14Speaker 2: of a positive ripple effect, but nothing that we should
- 15:18Speaker 2: be celebrating too much about. Right now.
- 15:24Speaker 5: Well, I think the government shut down will be end ended.
- 15:28Speaker 5: It will either end because the Democrats will conclude this
- 15:32Speaker 5: is a loser for them, or it will end because
- 15:35Speaker 5: the Senate Republicans decide to change the Senate rules and
- 15:39Speaker 5: do away with the filibuster in these kinds of situations
- 15:43Speaker 5: so they don't have to get the sixty votes needed
- 15:45Speaker 5: to pass a clean cr It will end. And beyond that,
- 15:50Speaker 5: these federal rate cuts will be in that positive yep.
- 15:54Speaker 5: And I think we've got another one coming in December, hopefully.
- 15:57Speaker 2: Just got a comment here saying I sold most of
- 15:59Speaker 2: my box and bought treasuries stocks and crypto have been
- 16:04Speaker 2: high and will likely retreat. So I have been buying
- 16:06Speaker 2: on the dips. What do you what do you say?
- 16:08Speaker 2: Let's say you about that.
- 16:10Speaker 5: Well, I think it's good to buy on the dips.
- 16:12Speaker 5: I would not be liquidating good stock positions in the
- 16:16Speaker 5: diversified portfolio because I think all of the things that
- 16:20Speaker 5: we have seen President Trump do in terms of these
- 16:23Speaker 5: these ginormous trade deals, the tariff policy, lowering tariffs on
- 16:28Speaker 5: our goods, you know, all the things he's done to
- 16:31Speaker 5: get countries to lower their non tariff barriers to our
- 16:35Speaker 5: market entry into their markets. All of these things President
- 16:38Speaker 5: Trump has done, the reauthorization of twenty seventeen tax cuts.
- 16:43Speaker 5: All of this is one hundred times bigger in terms
- 16:47Speaker 5: of positive economic impact long term than anything Ronald Reagan
- 16:51Speaker 5: even ever did.
- 16:52Speaker 2: Wow, damn Steve, what's that now?
- 16:59Speaker 3: It's that bit?
- 17:00Speaker 2: Yeah, that's fascinating man. Listen. We we appreciate your time
- 17:06Speaker 2: so much. You got a website? What what is it?
- 17:07Speaker 2: What can we check out on you?
- 17:09Speaker 4: I do?
- 17:10Speaker 5: We have clients all over the country. My website is
- 17:13Speaker 5: www dot cotton c O T T O n w
- 17:17Speaker 5: M a dot com. We have clients all over the
- 17:21Speaker 5: country and overseas, and we just love helping people and
- 17:25Speaker 5: being good financial stewards.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Man. I appreciate your time so much this morning. I'd
- 17:30Speaker 2: love to think you back on at some point if
- 17:32Speaker 2: you're if you're up for that.
- 17:33Speaker 5: Thank you, Steve. It's an honor to be on your
- 17:35Speaker 5: program always.
- 17:36Speaker 2: You got it, You got it. That's Steve Cotton right there.
- 17:41Speaker 2: We appreciate it so much. Great stuff, amazing stuff. Uh.
- 17:46Speaker 2: And I'm so glad that he was able to share
- 17:51Speaker 2: a few minutes with us this morning talking about this.
- 17:53Speaker 2: He don't forget November fourth. Uh, that's that's coming up.
- 17:57Speaker 2: That's like right around the corner. Man. That's that's Tuesday.
- 18:02Speaker 2: That's your time, that's your opportunity. That's your chance to
- 18:08Speaker 2: exercise your civic duty and get out and vote. If
- 18:11Speaker 2: you haven't done so already. I know a lot of
- 18:14Speaker 2: early ballots have gone out and people have been voting
- 18:17Speaker 2: early on this bound vote right here in the Granite City.
- 18:22Speaker 2: A couple of things here. Article one, the two point
- 18:26Speaker 2: four million dollar infrastructure to support the Stevens Branch apartments,
- 18:32Speaker 2: the big housing project that everybody's talking about here in
- 18:35Speaker 2: downtown Berry City. And Article two, three point three million
- 18:41Speaker 2: bucks needed to make sure that the public works building
- 18:47Speaker 2: is completely coded, outright, built and ready and modified to
- 18:56Speaker 2: be just that, a public garage. So get out, vote,
- 19:02Speaker 2: don't forget. And of course the Central from my Career Center,
- 19:07Speaker 2: I'd be remissed if I forgot to mention that, because
- 19:10Speaker 2: we've been talking about a whole hell of a lot
- 19:12Speaker 2: over the last couple of weeks. Jody Emerson's been on
- 19:14Speaker 2: with us, We've chatted with Nicholas Starelli Castro about it.
- 19:22Speaker 2: That's a big one. CVTCC dot org slash future if
- 19:30Speaker 2: you want to have a look and see what's being proposed.
- 19:38Speaker 2: More than one hundred and fifty students are turned away
- 19:42Speaker 2: each year because of capacity not being able to provide
- 19:48Speaker 2: for them over at the Central from my Career Center.
- 19:52Speaker 2: Price tag one hundred and forty nine million dollars before
- 19:58Speaker 2: all is said and done with. And I know that
- 20:02Speaker 2: a good number of you have spit up your coffee
- 20:05Speaker 2: when you heard that number. It's a lot of money.
- 20:09Speaker 2: It's a lot of money. What's your tax rate going
- 20:12Speaker 2: to change?
- 20:13Speaker 4: To?
- 20:14Speaker 2: Hop on cvt CC. They've got a bar graph right there.
- 20:18Speaker 2: Break down in Washington County Town by town of how
- 20:23Speaker 2: your tax bills can be affected. So here we are
- 20:30Speaker 2: on Halloween. We have chaos in the airports right now.
- 20:40Speaker 2: Maybe I shouldn't say chaos because I'll get accused of
- 20:44Speaker 2: fear mongering. We have a lot of delays. We've gone
- 20:49Speaker 2: from two hundred and eighty flight delays as of six
- 20:56Speaker 2: o'clock this morning to just about eight hundred two hours later,
- 21:07Speaker 2: and that was an hour and a half ago. I
- 21:11Speaker 2: can't even imagine what it is right now, but I
- 21:13Speaker 2: am so glad that I am not headed to an
- 21:18Speaker 2: airport right now. I'm telling you you've got the aired
- 21:23Speaker 2: Out podcast. If you're just joining us this morning, Thanks
- 21:26Speaker 2: for streaming, Thanks for listening to us, whether you're on

- 22:08Speaker 2: treating or not. No matter how old or young you

- 22:41Speaker 2: rain is coming down. It doesn't even matter that the
- 22:45Speaker 2: wind will be whipping tonight, because things are going to
- 22:47Speaker 2: be scary as hell over Chris Massey's house. He turns
- 22:52Speaker 2: his garage into pretty haunted. I think last year it
- 22:57Speaker 2: was like a meat factory, meat processing plan, and it
- 23:01Speaker 2: was all kinds of stuff hanging from the ceiling. It's
- 23:04Speaker 2: a lot of fun. Just go tonight and tell my cension.
- 23:10Speaker 2: So those are the birthdays. How about the forecast, and
- 23:15Speaker 2: I'm going to tell you how my night was last night,
- 23:17Speaker 2: which I can hardly wait to tell you. The forecast
- 23:21Speaker 2: is calling for rain showers, and I think most of
- 23:26Speaker 2: us know this by now, that it's coming down and
- 23:32Speaker 2: it's going to continue to and it's going to be
- 23:35Speaker 2: windy and the temperatures are supposed to be What was
- 23:42Speaker 2: it that I saw last night? Thirties, thirties, thirty six
- 23:50Speaker 2: well often on rain showers today fifty one. But yeah
- 23:54Speaker 2: it's tonight, Yeah, mid thirties with some snow late tonight
- 24:00Speaker 2: through the overnight rain showers for the trigger treaters. Between
- 24:08Speaker 2: thirty and fifty percent for most of Vermont tonight, depending
- 24:12Speaker 2: on where you are, between thirty and fifty percent, thirty
- 24:17Speaker 2: five thirty six degrees for the bottom out load tonight
- 24:22Speaker 2: with higher elevation snow showers will stick. I don't know.
- 24:29Speaker 2: November one, tomorrow on Saturday, cloudy and forty two and
- 24:34Speaker 2: then Sunday mostly cloudy and around forty five degrees daily.
- 24:41Speaker 2: Does that feel good? This morning? You know, I was
- 24:44Speaker 2: thinking driving in a mike, what can we talk about
- 24:49Speaker 2: that's local and good news? And I just I just,
- 24:57Speaker 2: you know, I was thinking about a couple of different things,
- 24:59Speaker 2: and I'm like, you know what I'm going to go
- 25:00Speaker 2: with this this morning, because it's right on the tip
- 25:03Speaker 2: of my tongue. It's on my mind and I want
- 25:05Speaker 2: to say it into the microphone. I came home last night,
- 25:12Speaker 2: and Lily, who's a little under the weather right now,
- 25:16Speaker 2: not feeling great, was so happy and excited because at
- 25:22Speaker 2: eleven years old, when she gets something in the mailbox,
- 25:26Speaker 2: it's a big deal. And a lot of us have
- 25:33Speaker 2: forgotten what that feels like, or we're too young to
- 25:37Speaker 2: you know, we'll get a text from someone or whatever,
- 25:40Speaker 2: but to get something in the mailbox is pretty special.
- 25:44Speaker 2: It's pretty cool. And she got a Halloween card from
- 25:49Speaker 2: her friend Barb, who is a lady who lives right
- 25:52Speaker 2: here in Berry City who always mails her Birthday and
- 25:59Speaker 2: Halloween cars and it's just so kind to her. And
- 26:03Speaker 2: Lily was just so happy last night to get a
- 26:06Speaker 2: card from Barb. And I was just like, you know what,
- 26:12Speaker 2: I'm going to talk about that sporting because this a
- 26:15Speaker 2: feel good thing for me. I love that we went
- 26:18Speaker 2: trigg or treating last night. We had some fun. We
- 26:22Speaker 2: had a lot of fun. There's a an area in
- 26:27Speaker 2: in our town that has kind of made it a
- 26:31Speaker 2: tradition to do trick or treating the night before Halloween.
- 26:36Speaker 2: And I don't know how long this tradition has been
- 26:38Speaker 2: around for a couple of years, I'm guessing, but we
- 26:40Speaker 2: went last night and we had such a great time.
- 26:44Speaker 2: Lily is a Harley Quinn for those of you that
- 26:48Speaker 2: are wondering the kid's version, because there's no way in
- 26:59Speaker 2: hell that she would be wearing the same shorts that
- 27:04Speaker 2: Harley Quinn herself whares. Ever, so she's got the kid
- 27:11Speaker 2: version of those shorts, thank god. But uh, you know,
- 27:15Speaker 2: we had a great time. We you know, we we
- 27:17Speaker 2: saw some There were some really cool decorations. Some blood,
- 27:21Speaker 2: some gore, some dismembered bodies, some batstickers on the windows
- 27:27Speaker 2: that look like mustaches, some novelty gravestones. I love the
- 27:35Speaker 2: rest in pieces tombstone. Have you seen that one?
- 27:42Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 27:43Speaker 2: It was just awesome.
- 27:43Speaker 3: Man.
- 27:44Speaker 2: I just you know, even as an adult, you get
- 27:48Speaker 2: out and you're with the kids who are trick or treating,
- 27:50Speaker 2: and you feel like a kid again. The cobwebs, the
- 27:55Speaker 2: skeletons in the in the wacky poses, the giant skelleton
- 28:00Speaker 2: from Home Depot, the creepy clown heads. It's just so
- 28:06Speaker 2: much fun. By the way, the sports betting site Action
- 28:13Speaker 2: Network just crunched the numbers to find the odds of
- 28:18Speaker 2: each type of candy that is going to be landing
- 28:21Speaker 2: in your kid's Halloween bucket tonight, and they took the
- 28:25Speaker 2: stats from Instacart, door Dash, and a few other candy
- 28:31Speaker 2: sellers and compiled it all together. And they also took
- 28:37Speaker 2: into account population density across America to figure out how
- 28:41Speaker 2: many houses the average trick or treater would be visiting.
- 28:48Speaker 2: The ten most popular here they are, and the odds
- 28:54Speaker 2: of getting at least one of them tonight. Number one,
- 29:01Speaker 2: first and foremost on the list My favorite, and you
- 29:04Speaker 2: already know what that is. It's the Reese's Peanut butter cups.
- 29:07Speaker 2: Sixty seven percent chance of getting at least one. I
- 29:12Speaker 2: would have guessed more like ninety percent. But listen, if
- 29:16Speaker 2: your kid doesn't deliver at least one peanut butter cup
- 29:18Speaker 2: to your face, they have failed Halloween. Last night, Lily
- 29:31Speaker 2: took a couple out of her Halloween pumpkin bucket and
- 29:37Speaker 2: gave them to me, And yes, I accepted them. I
- 29:41Speaker 2: am not going to say no to a Recei's Peanut
- 29:45Speaker 2: butter cup. Ever, don't try to make me because I
- 29:50Speaker 2: won't say no. Number two in the list peanut m
- 29:54Speaker 2: and ms. Love those sixty five percent chance of getting
- 29:58Speaker 2: them tonight when you owe in the little yellow bag
- 30:01Speaker 2: of the peanut Eminem's. My recommendation is that you throw
- 30:06Speaker 2: them all in your mouth at the same time. None
- 30:09Speaker 2: of this one at a time thing, and then the
- 30:12Speaker 2: the you know, the the green gets on your fingers. No,
- 30:17Speaker 2: you just tear open the thing, the envelope, and get
- 30:21Speaker 2: them all in there at once, just an explosion of
- 30:25Speaker 2: peanut goodness. Number three regular eminems. Not a big fan.
- 30:34Speaker 2: I'll take them because they're chocolate, but sixty two percent
- 30:37Speaker 2: likelihood tonight that your kid's gonna get, you know, the
- 30:40Speaker 2: brown envelope there. Number four kit Kats love them sixty percent.
- 30:46Speaker 2: Number five stickers fifty eight percent tonight. So all of
- 30:51Speaker 2: the top five are chocolate. Have you noticed that. Number
- 30:54Speaker 2: six here's something I can pass on. Fifty five percent
- 30:58Speaker 2: chance that you're gonna get sour Patch kids tonight. Not
- 31:02Speaker 2: fan at all. Number seven Hershey's milk chocolate bars. Fifty
- 31:08Speaker 2: percent chance that you're going to get one tonight. Try
- 31:13Speaker 2: to give Sherylyn some Hershey's milk chocolate and see what happens.
- 31:20Speaker 2: She's British. They're not fans of Hershey's, They're fans of
- 31:26Speaker 2: Cadbury or Sherilyn says Cadbury Milky Way forty five percent
- 31:34Speaker 2: chance you're going to get one tonight. Twigs at thirty
- 31:36Speaker 2: three percent love twigs and number ten gummy bears at
- 31:40Speaker 2: thirty three percent. Also something that I'm not a fan of.
- 31:43Speaker 2: Gummy bears. They get stuck in my teeth, They get
- 31:47Speaker 2: stuck between my gums and my teeth, and then what
- 31:51Speaker 2: happens is Sherylyn and I will get into a fight
- 31:58Speaker 2: because I'm going, well goosh for the next hour trying
- 32:03Speaker 2: to get that gummy bear out from underneath my gums,
- 32:08Speaker 2: and she's getting frustrated. Will you stop talking like that
- 32:11Speaker 2: when you just get it done, get it out of there.
- 32:16Speaker 2: And it takes me like a good hour to get
- 32:17Speaker 2: that gummy bear out, So no, I pass on those.
- 32:23Speaker 2: Let's talk about the good old days. The box of raisins,
- 32:28Speaker 2: the toothbrush, the pencil. You remember this, don't you. There's
- 32:40Speaker 2: a two percent chance, according to the same study, that
- 32:43Speaker 2: your kid's going to get a toothbrush tonight. I know
- 32:47Speaker 2: the odds aren't high, but still the odds are there
- 32:49Speaker 2: two percent four percent that they're going to get a
- 32:52Speaker 2: box of raisins, twenty three percent chance that they're going
- 32:58Speaker 2: to find some candy corn in their back. Not a
- 33:05Speaker 2: fan of candy corn, never have been. Yes, Rex is
- 33:13Speaker 2: not able to make it today. One of the things
- 33:18Speaker 2: that I wanted to tell him, and I'll still get
- 33:21Speaker 2: a chance to, is that China has just introduced a
- 33:25Speaker 2: new rule requiring influencers to have official qualifications before discussing
- 33:35Speaker 2: sensitive subjects such as medicine, law, education, or finance, on
- 33:45Speaker 2: social media and politics. Let me say it again. If
- 33:51Speaker 2: you live in China and you want to get online,
- 33:56Speaker 2: you want to get on social media as an influencer
- 33:59Speaker 2: and talk about any of those subject matters, you need
- 34:02Speaker 2: to now have an official qualification. I don't know what
- 34:06Speaker 2: that qualification because I don't know if it means you
- 34:08Speaker 2: have to go to some course get a degree. I
- 34:14Speaker 2: don't know what it is. But Rex and I both
- 34:19Speaker 2: are happy that we don't live in China. See that Salem,
- 34:28Speaker 2: Massachusetts is overwhelmed right now with reckless tourists visiting for Halloween.
- 34:36Speaker 2: I was just down there a couple of weeks ago
- 34:38Speaker 2: with the girls. We had an absolute blast. We did
- 34:41Speaker 2: see some unusual behavior, Actually, we saw a lot of
- 34:45Speaker 2: unusual behavior. And this was the first weekend in October.
- 34:48Speaker 2: It was a while ago. I have had people say
- 34:53Speaker 2: to me, Oh, you've been to Salem during a Halloween.
- 34:55Speaker 2: How close to Halloween?
- 34:57Speaker 5: Oh?
- 34:57Speaker 2: A month away? Oh well that's that's not that's nothing.
- 35:01Speaker 2: And I'm like what, Oh yeah, man, if you really
- 35:04Speaker 2: want to ramp it up, you got to go, like
- 35:06Speaker 2: right right up against Halloween or even Halloween itself. You
- 35:11Speaker 2: want to see some whacked out shit. You want to
- 35:14Speaker 2: see people just freaking out, that's the time to go.
- 35:20Speaker 2: The police department has in Salem has just made the
- 35:24Speaker 2: announcement that they are tripling, tripling fines for illegal behavior.
- 35:38Speaker 2: And yes, public drunkenness is one of those behaviors. So
- 35:45Speaker 2: whatever the fine is. If you're hammered and you're taking
- 35:48Speaker 2: your clothes off, or you're fighting in Salem, Massachusetts, or
- 35:54Speaker 2: walking down the street with a running chainsaw, tonight, triple fines.
- 36:00Speaker 2: Be careful. Have you seen Has anyone seen this? The video,
- 36:10Speaker 2: the ring cam video of this woman gleefully punching Halloween witches.
- 36:23Speaker 2: I'll post it up for you. This is here. I've
- 36:33Speaker 2: got it right here. I might as well just share
- 36:36Speaker 2: it with you. This is so I don't understand stuff
- 36:40Speaker 2: like this. Look at that. It's this. It's the same woman.
- 36:43Speaker 2: She's jogging by. She's like, no, I see it, I'm
- 36:46Speaker 2: gonna come back. I'm coming back and I'm gonna do it. Bang,
- 36:52Speaker 2: what is this?
- 36:54Speaker 5: Here?
- 36:55Speaker 2: She comes coming back for another one? Holy look too,
- 37:01Speaker 2: here she is at night. Now she's gonna do it.
- 37:02Speaker 2: She's looking Oh God, say it isn't so she couldn't
- 37:10Speaker 2: resist slow hit one, two punch, took out two and
- 37:18Speaker 2: one punch and then the third one a little bit
- 37:19Speaker 2: of trouble with but got him down. I don't is
- 37:23Speaker 2: what's the deal with people? Why would someone do that?
- 37:36Speaker 2: And she's got a grin on her face. She thinks
- 37:38Speaker 2: it's funny. I'm gonna have to link up this story
- 37:43Speaker 2: here and put it on so maybe we can get
- 37:47Speaker 2: her name. Greg says Walnut Street and Berry m Haunted
- 37:55Speaker 2: house in the rain is rain or shine tonight. It's
- 37:58Speaker 2: not gonna be shining, Greg. No toothbrushes or raisins, but
- 38:08Speaker 2: Greg Tobin Davis Walnut Street. And for those of you
- 38:13Speaker 2: that know Greg, you cannot say Greg Tobin Davis without
- 38:22Speaker 2: saying the word Halloween immediately afterwards. This guy lives and
- 38:29Speaker 2: breathes it year round. Sadly, so does Massy. I mean,
- 38:35Speaker 2: the guy's birthday is on Halloween. And then there's Brian
- 38:42Speaker 2: Nichel and Tracy up in Berlin, right up at Berlin
- 38:49Speaker 2: four Corners, the Nichel Haunted Grounds. What a bunch of sickos,
- 38:55Speaker 2: great people, a stupid criminal file. This morning, we have
- 39:01Speaker 2: a woman in New York. I'll put the story up
- 39:04Speaker 2: for I'll put it up right now because here's why.
- 39:07Speaker 2: Because you're gonna say, JD, come on, you're making this
- 39:09Speaker 2: shit up that that can't be true, that doesn't actually
- 39:13Speaker 2: make the news. I just posted it up. There's the
- 39:17Speaker 2: link right there. This woman in New York arrested after
- 39:26Speaker 2: vandalizing a car with condiments, a condiment criminal. From my
- 39:39Speaker 2: understanding in just a quick glance at the article last night,
- 39:43Speaker 2: it was no Relish involved. However, catch up mustard and
- 39:46Speaker 2: mayonnaise and a couple of eggs, just to you know,
- 39:52Speaker 2: get everything permanent. And I don't know if she knew
- 39:58Speaker 2: this person's car, if if she knew whose car it
- 40:01Speaker 2: was or not, but she got busted. How embarrassing to
- 40:13Speaker 2: make the paper in your hometown that you got busted.
- 40:17Speaker 2: Squirt and ketchup and mustard and mayonnaise on somebody's car.
- 40:26Speaker 2: There are other things that you can use other than condiments.
- 40:29Speaker 2: It doesn't have to be ketch up. The link is
- 40:38Speaker 2: there if you would like to read this story. I
- 40:44Speaker 2: will admit, however, I'll take this opportunity right now that
- 40:52Speaker 2: when my brother and I were kids, which some would
- 40:58Speaker 2: say that I m but when we were kids, we
- 41:06Speaker 2: we would go into McDonald's with mom and dad and
- 41:12Speaker 2: we would grab a handful of the little ketchup packets
- 41:18Speaker 2: and we would try try hard to sneak out of
- 41:23Speaker 2: McDonald's quicker than mom, and get out to the car
- 41:31Speaker 2: and take that handful of McDonald's ketchup and jam them
- 41:39Speaker 2: underneath the uh, the back tire, knowing that Mom was
- 41:47Speaker 2: going to reverse, and we would hear the pup and
- 41:54Speaker 2: we would have a good laugh about that. Am I
- 42:01Speaker 2: admitting this on the area? Sam? Does that make me
- 42:05Speaker 2: a bad person? That's up to you to decide. Today
- 42:17Speaker 2: the thirty first, I know the weather's not going to
- 42:20Speaker 2: be great, although it looks like the sun is trying
- 42:22Speaker 2: to poke through and the rain is still coming down
- 42:25Speaker 2: here in Bury, but it's a bright, sunny rain right now.
- 42:28Speaker 2: At least the weather's not going to be great. But
- 42:31Speaker 2: Berry City Main Street trick or treating. It's this afternoon
- 42:35Speaker 2: starts at four o'clock from four to five. A lot
- 42:39Speaker 2: of the businesses up and down North Main Street here
- 42:44Speaker 2: are going to be given out candy pack an umbrella
- 42:48Speaker 2: for the kids. It's I think it's it's intentional that
- 42:52Speaker 2: they're doing this before it really gets like super dark.
- 42:56Speaker 2: Four to five is not bad at all. Still afternoon,
- 43:00Speaker 2: not dark yet. But if you have a kid who's
- 43:04Speaker 2: going to be out trick or treating tonight, umbrella or
- 43:06Speaker 2: no umbrella in the rain and in the dark, cover
- 43:11Speaker 2: them with some you know, glow sticks or something flashlights,
- 43:16Speaker 2: just and listen. If you're out driving tonight anywhere, slow
- 43:21Speaker 2: the hell down and be careful, okay, please. Tomorrow, Saturday,
- 43:29Speaker 2: November first, couple of things in the community calendar, brought
- 43:32Speaker 2: to you by the World, Central Vermont's favorite weekly newspaper,
- 43:36Speaker 2: Vtdashworld dot com, National Lifecraft Fair. Read about that on
- 43:43Speaker 2: the front page of the World. It is free and
- 43:48Speaker 2: it's tomorrow and it's going on like all day again Tomorrow, Saturday,
- 43:54Speaker 2: November first. Also the eleventh annual Granite City five K
- 43:59Speaker 2: starts at nine am tomorrow morning. Capstone Community Action is
- 44:04Speaker 2: where it gets started. I know that you probably think
- 44:09Speaker 2: I'm going to be running. I will not. I will
- 44:13Speaker 2: not be running in that um looking ahead here, and
- 44:18Speaker 2: it's just a couple of things. November fifteenth the annual
- 44:22Speaker 2: Glitz and Glam gala at the Elks seven o'clock. That's big.
- 44:27Speaker 2: A lot of people go to that and have fun time.
- 44:30Speaker 2: I want to ask you this morning, and please, if
- 44:33Speaker 2: you know the answer to this, please help me and
- 44:37Speaker 2: let me know. Does anybody know anything about the sox
- 44:41Speaker 2: sale going on in Northfield. I know it's been an
- 44:44Speaker 2: annual thing. I think that the only year that they
- 44:47Speaker 2: ever missed was was COVID. But I'm wondering about the
- 44:51Speaker 2: sock sale. Haven't seen anything on that, and I'm concerned
- 44:56Speaker 2: because those of you that know me know that I
- 44:59Speaker 2: love I collect socks and I have bins, bins, large
- 45:06Speaker 2: totes of socks at home. I'm talking hundreds of pairs,
- 45:13Speaker 2: and I don't want to miss the sox sale this year.
- 45:16Speaker 2: Sherilyn will will absolutely not let me go, so I
- 45:22Speaker 2: if I do go, I will have to sneak, which
- 45:24Speaker 2: I've done before the last time I went to the
- 45:26Speaker 2: sox sale. I'll tell you right now, it's two hundred
- 45:29Speaker 2: and twenty five bucks. And some people say, JD you seriously,
- 45:35Speaker 2: you have a sock problem. And I know this. It's okay.
- 45:39Speaker 2: I like dry warm feet. November twenty second at the
- 45:50Speaker 2: UH Barry Oaks Lodge, the annual hoop shoot in high school.
- 46:02Speaker 2: Ten am doing this in conjunction with the Elks National Foundation.
- 46:10Speaker 2: I want to make sure I get that on the
- 46:11Speaker 2: air too, and I'll be posting up that graphic too,
- 46:15Speaker 2: so be paying attention for that. What else my community calendar,
- 46:25Speaker 2: That's what I'm showing this morning. What else do we
- 46:31Speaker 2: have this morning? Some of these creepy clown heads that
- 46:37Speaker 2: I've seen that are kind of jumping out on online.
- 46:45Speaker 2: There's like these little things, you know, you, oh, look
- 46:47Speaker 2: at this, and you're watching it, and you're you're getting closer,
- 46:50Speaker 2: and you you're you're distracted, You're paying attention to something,
- 46:53Speaker 2: and all of a sudden it explodes with this big
- 46:55Speaker 2: clown that jumps out at you and you scream. Some
- 47:00Speaker 2: of you have sent me some of those on messengers
- 47:04Speaker 2: on Facebook Messenger, please stop. Uh. Last night I let
- 47:10Speaker 2: out a scream and some gas at the same time.
- 47:14Speaker 2: When that when I saw that we don't need that anymore.
- 47:20Speaker 2: Facebook Question of the Day, here's one that I'm gonna
- 47:24Speaker 2: post up here in just a little bit, and I
- 47:25Speaker 2: want to see what you have to say about this.
- 47:30Speaker 2: The and it's a kind of a two part question.
- 47:36Speaker 2: I really want to see some comments here about this.
- 47:41Speaker 2: The Medicare telehealth coverage it has uh are are you
- 47:51Speaker 2: a Vermonter who relies on this? It has ended? Do
- 47:57Speaker 2: you know someone who relies on this Medicare telehealth coverage?
- 48:08Speaker 2: It's done? And I wonder what the impacts on this
- 48:15Speaker 2: are going to be. I can only wonder. Tens of
- 48:21Speaker 2: thousands of Vermonters are going to lose their Medicare advantage
- 48:25Speaker 2: option next year. That's huge, and I wonder if you're
- 48:36Speaker 2: one of them. And if you are, I would love
- 48:40Speaker 2: to hear from you. I would love for you to
- 48:47Speaker 2: come on the air and talk about that. Of course,
- 48:49Speaker 2: I could reach out to someone under the Golden Dome
- 48:54Speaker 2: and have them in here too, maybe say everything that
- 48:59Speaker 2: you want to here, But I would rather hear from
- 49:05Speaker 2: the average Joe. I'd rather hear from the Vermonter who's
- 49:09Speaker 2: going to be impacted by this. I'm going to post
- 49:11Speaker 2: this up as soon as I got off the air
- 49:13Speaker 2: this morning, up on the Facebook page, and I want
- 49:18Speaker 2: to see what you have to say about this. There's
- 49:22Speaker 2: some real concern here and it's intense. The Vermont Eboard
- 49:36Speaker 2: has just approved a plan to fully fund SNAP benefits
- 49:42Speaker 2: during the government shutdown. The Vermont Emergency Board. Yes, they
- 49:51Speaker 2: approved state funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program also
- 49:57Speaker 2: known as SNAP despite the ongoing shutdown. What do we do?
- 50:04Speaker 2: I've lost I've lost count thirty two days, thirty five days,
- 50:09Speaker 2: something like that. I'm going to talk about the airports
- 50:13Speaker 2: here in just a little bit, lie Heap. The Low
- 50:21Speaker 2: Income Home Energy Assistance Program is moving forward as scheduled
- 50:31Speaker 2: as there's been enough funds to appropriate it. According to lawmakers,
- 50:42Speaker 2: SNAP or three squares Vermont going to be funded by
- 50:48Speaker 2: six point three million dollars from a state emergency fund
- 50:53Speaker 2: right here in Vermont that was included in the previous
- 51:00Speaker 2: Were you aware of this? The emergency fund is made
- 51:06Speaker 2: up of roughly fifty million dollars. I was reading this
- 51:12Speaker 2: on PTZ last night. This is the first time it's
- 51:17Speaker 2: being used this year, fifty million bucks and we're pulling
- 51:25Speaker 2: six point three out of it. If you thirty one days,
- 51:34Speaker 2: thank you, Mary. If you read the article, it will
- 51:38Speaker 2: tell you that the money will fully fund the first
- 51:42Speaker 2: fifteen days of the November SNAP benefit fifteen days, and
- 51:52Speaker 2: we'll support the approximately thirty eight thousand Vermont households enrolled
- 51:58Speaker 2: in the SNAP program that includes a total of about
- 52:03Speaker 2: sixty five thousand people. Fifteen days. Will it be long enough?
- 52:15Speaker 2: Will our government be open? Then? Will Congress get the
- 52:24Speaker 2: memo that it's their fundamental responsibility to take care of
- 52:30Speaker 2: its people and do whatever the hell they've got to
- 52:34Speaker 2: do to keep our government open. And as I said
- 52:41Speaker 2: last week, we're headed headfirst into the holidays, Thanksgiving, one
- 52:45Speaker 2: of the busiest travel times of the entire year, if
- 52:49Speaker 2: not the busiest. And look what's happening in the airports.
- 52:52Speaker 2: I'll talk about it a little bit. The Department for
- 52:56Speaker 2: Children and Families Economic Services Division is going to be
- 52:58Speaker 2: distributing the funds for SNAP benefits on or before November seventh,
- 53:07Speaker 2: using your existing EBT card. Brian is reminding me. I
- 53:21Speaker 2: wasn't aware of this, but he's he's reminding me to
- 53:27Speaker 2: discuss the Melissa Martins story. The Vermont teacher high end
- 53:38Speaker 2: cocaine at the Barrytown School. The police cam, unedited police
- 53:49Speaker 2: bodycam video of that has reached, according to Brian, one
- 53:55Speaker 2: point two million views on the Law and Crime Network,
- 54:01Speaker 2: which was released. Was it two nights ago? Yeah, not
- 54:06Speaker 2: last night, night before and I posted it up and
- 54:09Speaker 2: it's you know, it's exploded. I didn't realize it was
- 54:14Speaker 2: over a million views though. Incredible And if you haven't
- 54:21Speaker 2: had a chance to see that, and I know I
- 54:26Speaker 2: haven't talked. I didn't talk about it yesterday. I know
- 54:28Speaker 2: Bob Ross was in here being a pain in the ass.
- 54:34Speaker 2: I haven't really talked about this lately and and I
- 54:40Speaker 2: probably will next week. But after watching that video, there
- 54:45Speaker 2: were a lot of feelings that I had, And there
- 54:48Speaker 2: were also a lot of feelings I had after I
- 54:51Speaker 2: read Melissa Martin's post on Facebook, the whole different set
- 54:59Speaker 2: of feelings, yes, but it was the full game between
- 55:08Speaker 2: concern sadness, frustration, a lot of a lot of feelings
- 55:16Speaker 2: after watching that that video And if you haven't yet,
- 55:19Speaker 2: it's on the aired out page, scroll down you'll see it.
- 55:24Speaker 2: It's alarming. It's alarming. Uh. This morning I was I
- 55:34Speaker 2: stopped off at the Waste River store and grabbed a
- 55:40Speaker 2: cup of coffee and could see that they were they
- 55:45Speaker 2: had a collection for nonperishable food items for the community.
- 55:53Speaker 2: And I'll post a pictures up here in a little bit.
- 55:56Speaker 2: But I love seeing stuff like that. I love to
- 55:59Speaker 2: see community helping our community so great. One of the
- 56:07Speaker 2: headlines that I saw last night, and I know there's
- 56:10Speaker 2: a lot of stuff about the whole snap thing, is
- 56:16Speaker 2: the foodshelves and the meal services that are bracing themselves
- 56:26Speaker 2: more than ever before. Partly and maybe even mostly because
- 56:33Speaker 2: of the government shutdown, but there's other reasons. Man, listen,
- 56:43Speaker 2: if you're kind of exempt from inflation, you're really lucky.
- 56:48Speaker 2: I mean, everybody's feeling it. I would like to get
- 56:53Speaker 2: meals on wheels. On the air with me, we're going
- 56:57Speaker 2: to be talking a lot more about pack the pantry
- 57:01Speaker 2: which is coming up really soon over at the Price
- 57:07Speaker 2: Shopper parking lot, and the effects that that has on
- 57:12Speaker 2: our community. Yes, staying right here in Central Vermont. Everything donated,
- 57:20Speaker 2: there's never been. I know, it's like maybe last year
- 57:23Speaker 2: we said the same thing, there's never been, but I'm
- 57:26Speaker 2: saying it now. There's never been more demand. There's never
- 57:32Speaker 2: been a greater need. Everybody needs help right now and
- 57:40Speaker 2: allowed that karma to come back into your life. If
- 57:43Speaker 2: you can find a can find a bag something and
- 57:47Speaker 2: donate it, goodness will come back to you. At least
- 57:52Speaker 2: I believe it will. There's a lot to be said
- 57:58Speaker 2: about that. We could talk about that every single day
- 58:04Speaker 2: on the air, but I'll post something that I read
- 58:09Speaker 2: about this last night, the effects of what's happening right
- 58:13Speaker 2: here in the Green Mountain State. There's a few stories
- 58:20Speaker 2: that are still buzzing, that are still picking up momentum
- 58:25Speaker 2: here in Vermont. The Vermont State Police discovered human remains
- 58:30Speaker 2: well searching for a missing migrant up in I think
- 58:35Speaker 2: it was j Jpeak area. This all happened Wednesday, big story,
- 58:41Speaker 2: frea key. The Supreme Court is dealing with Vermont's voting
- 58:48Speaker 2: policy still, which allows legal residents to vote in local
- 58:53Speaker 2: elections regardless of citizenship status. What a mess, especially with
- 59:05Speaker 2: November fourth right in front of us. Williston's new ice
- 59:09Speaker 2: facility is offering a fifty thousand dollars sign on bonus,
- 59:18Speaker 2: and they're looking for new employees to staff their call
- 59:22Speaker 2: center right now. Fifty thousand dollars sign on bonus. You
- 59:29Speaker 2: know what, that screams to me. Nobody wants to do
- 59:33Speaker 2: that job. Chittenden County's years long backlog of criminal cases
- 59:43Speaker 2: is still getting the attention of lawmakers and those in
- 59:46Speaker 2: the criminal justice system right here in Vermont. Still, that's
- 59:55Speaker 2: a subject that I have been talking about into this
- 59:58Speaker 2: microphone for years. They don't have a handle on it.
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: Zach Waite and Sarah George are going to be very
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: busy for the next few months, and Governor Scott will
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: make sure that they are. They have got to get
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: a handle on it. It's just listen. I don't have
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: the answers. I don't know how to even begin to
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: figure out something like that. But jeez, man, holy shit,
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: you get in trouble today and you get to the
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: uh to the bottom of the list, it's called to
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: me a long time before you're in front of the judge.
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: By the time your number comes up, they will probably
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: be forgotten. I don't know, man, I know it's a
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: little outrageous, but it's just this is this is insane. Insane. Tomorrow,
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: November one, the resignation of Northfield Police Chief Pierre Gomez
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: will be official. I don't know if you've read the story.
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: It's got some pretty pretty deep roots. There's a lot
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: to be said about that story, a lot to be
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: said about Northfield. I mean there's thumbs up and thumbs
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: down about every freaking town in this entire state, Okay,
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: and I've heard all kinds of things about Northfield, good
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: and not so good. I would say probably more good. However, mhm,
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: I love Northfield right now. With what they're doing in
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: the with the construction in Northfield is an absolute shit show.
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: If you can, uh, you can skirt around. There's some detours,
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: but man, it is there. What they're I don't know
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: what the hell they're doing new sewer lines, what do
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: they think? The entire road is ripped up. It's a mess.
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: If you're in a rush and you need to get
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: through Northfield, guess what you're gonna be late. But anyway,
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: I have reached out to the chief, Pierre Gomez. I've
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: asked him to come on the air, and at one
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: point it looked like that was going to happen, and
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: I suspected that he was going to tap the brakes.
- 1:02:59Speaker 4: Uh.
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: But with his resignation effective tomorrow, and I think his
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: intention is to move back to Pennsylvania if I'm not mistaken,
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: but I would hope that he might be willing to
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: share a microphone with me and tell his side of
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: the story of why he's resigning, and I'll leave it
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: at that. That's some of what's going on and from
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: mount right now, it's just a little bit. Multiple airports
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: are experiencing and expecting ground delays because of staffing shortages,
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: mostly the controllers. And last night I was chatting with
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: a friend who is going to be trying to fly
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: out of Logan today and I'm not sure that they're
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: going to be getting off the ground. I don't know
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: if you've got travel plans in the near future, but
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: if you do, especially if it's a vacation, you might
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: want to double check and make sure that you got
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: the insurance. I'm not sure what's going to happen. No
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: one knows what's going to happen. But the FAA National
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: Airspace System Status page is showing that ground delays are
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: being experienced everywhere all major airports, and there's a advisories
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: everywhere due to the ongoing government shut down. Air traffic
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: controllers and other staff are being impacted. You think they
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: completely missed their paychecks on Tuesday. According to my calendar,
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: today's Friday, Tuesday. They didn't get a paycheck. I think
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: some folks in the government got partial paychecks, but the
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: air traffic controllers, many of them got zero dollars. Stop
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: and think about that for a little bit. Let's hope
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: that if they're married, that their spouses are not being
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: impacted and there's a little bit of money coming in.
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: There was this one father that was interviewed saying, and
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: I think it was Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy along with
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: the head of the controllers union, where talking about this
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: one father who was saying that his little girl is
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: sick and that her medication is pricey. This was at
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: the news conference a couple of days ago at La Guardia.
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: And I don't know if you heard the sound bites
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: where Sean Duffy said, and I'm quoting here, and I'm
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: watching air traffic controllers go into work. I'm getting the stories.
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: They're worried about paying for medicine, they're worried about paying
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: for food. I've got a message from a controller that
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: says I'm running out of money and if my daughter
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: doesn't get the medicine that she needs. She'll die. That's
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: the end these A lot of these air traffic controllers
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: are saying, I've got to find another job quickly. The
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: president of the National Air Traffic Controllers Association, guy of
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: the name of Nick Daniels, reminding us all of the
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: pressures that these controllers are facing, they have got to
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: be one hundred percent focused, one hundred percent of the time.
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: In the meanwhile, the FAA is restricting the number of
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: flights landing and taking off at airports everywhere because of
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: the shortage of controllers to ensure safety. There's no way
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: to predict when and where delays might happen. Some of
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: the delays are, you know, thirty minutes an hour, some
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: are two or three hours, and some have had to
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: stop all flights temporarily. What are they doing circling around
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: for hours, burn and fuel because they can't touch down
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: because not enough air traffic controllers. This what an absolute cluster.
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: The longer the shutdown continues, the longer the in, the
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: more intense the pressure will be on Congress, which so
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: many of us are imploring to open the government. So far,
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: Democrats and Republicans have really shown little sign of reaching
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: a deal to fund the government. And now we've got
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: the filibuster being brought into it now and immense pressure
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: coming from Trump. What else is going on national headlines here?
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: Oh yeah, this is great. World's largest food company Nestley
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: cutting sixteen thousand jobs. Why automation and technology aka robots?
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: Two Mississippi sheriffs and twelve officers charged in drug trafficking
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: bribery scheme. Wow. Jet Blue passengers hospitalized after emergency landing
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: in Florida. Did you hear about this? Credible? The New
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: York governor declaring a state of emergency because of snap
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: benefits being affected by the federal government shutdown on Thursday.
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: They announced yesterday they're committing an additional sixty five million
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: bucks in state funding to provide emergency food assistance, sixty
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: five million to support food banks and food pantries that
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: distribute and estimated forty million meals a month. We got
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: the story about the California activists who took chickens from
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: some of the plants at the Purdue Farms. Jury convicted her.
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: We have this story about and I'll post all of
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: these up if you want to read them. About the
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: teacher who was shot by a six year old student.
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: Six year old student who brought a gun to school,
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: took mom's gun out of the top dresser drawer, brought
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: it to school and shot her teacher. She's alive, but
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: she's testifying in her forty million dollar lawsuit against the
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: former assistant principal who was given a warning about this
- 1:12:19Speaker 2: sixty year old actually having the gun. But poo poo.
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: Did We have a three star general who's been pushed
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: out amid tensions with Pete Hegseth Lieutenant General Joe McGee,
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: the director for Strategy, Plans and Policy on the Joint Staff,
- 1:12:46Speaker 2: not getting along with Pete. He's done. I'll have that
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: story for you, three charge Street, three star general. Unbelievable
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: uh in the world, President Trump's nuclear testing, comments of
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: bending decades of US policy, global concern here anyone. I'll
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: post that up for you. Also, going to be posting
