- 0:27We, So we took a plan and Easter break because we knew we wanted
- 0:32to make sure we had some time off during the podcast.
- 0:35But we decided to extend the break because we decided to
- 0:39rebrand and really think about where the podcast is going, what
- 0:43we want from it. And because of that, some very
- 0:46exciting things came up for this season.
- 0:48Yeah, you're going to want to make sure that you follow us as

- 1:22100% and your support is always so appreciated.
- 1:26Those follows and subscribes are very, very important to the
- 1:29podcast. They are.
- 1:30Today. We're going to be doing a bit of
- 1:32a first episode back wrap up, sort of talking about what we've
- 1:37been reading, what's going on in the bookish community, and bits
- 1:41and bobs like that. So much news.
- 1:43The reading wrap up is not going to be that far because brunting
- 1:46has been slumpity slumping so bad this year and I actually did
- 1:52not read that much while we were on the break.
- 1:55So yeah, that bit might be a bit short, but there is a lot of
- 1:59bookish Goss to fill you in on. Yeah, so before we get into the
- 2:03video, make sure you like and comment on this one.
- 2:05Tell us what you've been reading across Easter as well.
- 2:07So while we were off, although we didn't do much reading, you
- 2:11must have done some reading during my action April.
- 2:16So what did you read? So the main thing I read was the
- 2:19Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. That took me the whole of April.
- 2:23Guys that took me literally a full month to read, which is
- 2:27insane. The 1st 20% I actually read
- 2:29really quickly, like a few days and then I just sort of got a
- 2:33bit stuck with it. And I also just was really busy
- 2:36over April, but it just, I thought this was going to be a
- 2:39five star book and it wasn't. I've ended up settling on a 3.5.
- 2:45I fear for what The Hunger Games girlies are going to do to our
- 2:48podcast episode. No, you've said that.
- 2:49Do you know? What?
- 2:50When I went on Goodreads after though, a lot of the reviews
- 2:52were very similar to. OK, interesting.
- 2:54And a lot of people say that Sunrise on the Reaping, which is
- 2:57the one after and the other prequel book that came out last
- 3:01year, that one's a lot better. So I am still going to do that
- 3:05and I'm very excited for that. But songbirds and snakes I just
- 3:08found a bit boring. It was a bit slow.
- 3:11I didn't like his villain origin story.
- 3:14I didn't really think there was enough rationale of how he
- 3:17became a villain because it kind of was like nought to 100 in the
- 3:20book. Like for 90% he actually is not
- 3:23that villainous at all. And then like for 10% at the
- 3:26end, it's like. I.
- 3:28It's not really like a gradual process.
- 3:30I mean I don't understand because I don't watch Hunger
- 3:32Games or read Hunger Games but. Yeah, I forgot you'd not really
- 3:35even seen the films where it's basically like if it was an
- 3:38origin story about Voldemort, for example, but then Voldemort
- 3:41only became bad in the last 10% of the book.
- 3:43That's kind of how it felt reading it.
- 3:45OK, so yeah, I didn't love it. And then honestly, I didn't read
- 3:49a lot else at all. And I've have so I did read 20%
- 3:54of oh gosh, what's it called? A Sky in the Storm, which is
- 3:58book 4 of Ember in the Ashes. And I love that series and I
- 4:02love this. But because I'm doing it on
- 4:04audio, I'm getting through it really slowly.
- 4:06OK, because unlike tour, I don't do audio that often.
- 4:10So it takes me a while, but I do really enjoy it.
- 4:12I'm very excited to see where it goes.
- 4:14I think I'm going to be happy with the ending from what I know
- 4:17from a friend that's read them so I.
- 4:19Really need to read that series. I got the first book recently
- 4:22because everyone always tells me that I will love it.
- 4:25I think everyone should read this series.
- 4:27I don't think if you like fantasy in any capacity it's a
- 4:30must read. I brought my cousin the first
- 4:33book for Christmas and she messaged me the other day saying
- 4:35she was addicted to the series and she'd almost finished it.
- 4:37Oh my God, Don't you just love that when you buy someone a book
- 4:41that you're reading and then they, like, storm past you?
- 4:44Yeah. I know.
- 4:45And that's what happened with my friend Jamie.
- 4:47She, she read it, she started them when I was on book 2 and
- 4:51then she finished them way, way, way, way, way before me.
- 4:54She is Alfred. Jamie.
- 4:56Yeah, yeah, yeah. She is one of the fastest
- 4:58readers I've ever known in my life.
- 5:00She's wild. She she will literally pick up a
- 5:03book and then two hours later you'll have a text saying she's
- 5:05finished it and it's crazy wild. Absolutely mental.
- 5:08Yeah. So, yeah, that's all I read
- 5:10really not the most exciting or you know, biggest update.
- 5:15I will, when we talk about what I'm currently reading, have a
- 5:17very kind of exciting update though and recommendation.
- 5:21Oh yeah, I feel like I know what you're going to talk about.
- 5:23Yeah. So for me, I also didn't read
- 5:26too much. One of the reasons we chose the
- 5:27break when we did is obviously because of my kids being on
- 5:30school holidays. So that took up a good like 2
- 5:341/2 weeks worth of my dime where I basically read nothing or read
- 5:38stuff very slowly. But since the last break I did,
- 5:42I finished Wrath of the Dragons, which is the second book in
- 5:47Olivia Rose Darling series. And I have to say it actually
- 5:50really disappointed me, which was really, really sad because
- 5:55Fear the Flames was one of my top books of 2025.
- 5:59So that was a little bit disappointing.
- 6:01It just had that typical second book in a series like Syndrome.
- 6:06Do you know what I mean? Where things, the pacing kind of
- 6:09like fluctuated a bit and the romance got a little bit lost,
- 6:12like the chemistry didn't feel was great.
- 6:16So that was a little bit disappointing.
- 6:18I also read Love Song by Elle Kennedy, which was just one of
- 6:22the fucking best things I've ever done.
- 6:23It was so, so funny. It is like a, it's not part of
- 6:30the campus diary series, but it's spin off from off campus
- 6:33because it's the kids of some of the original characters.
- 6:37So the fucking dad chat vibes in this bag.
- 6:41Oh my God. I was crying with laughter.
- 6:44It was so, so funny. And but you know what?
- 6:47One of the things I actually really liked about this book, I
- 6:51was doing a review on it the other day and there's a lot of
- 6:54mental health and neurodiversity wrapped within this book without
- 6:59specifically calling it out. Like it's not like, oh, this
- 7:03person has ADHD and this person has anxiety and this person, you
- 7:07know, has suffered with depression.
- 7:09It wasn't like that. It was very naturally embedded
- 7:12into the story. So if you are someone that
- 7:14struggles with those types things, you just naturally felt,
- 7:18felt or feel very seen while you're reading it.
- 7:21And I really liked that it's just becoming like a natural
- 7:24thing rather than being like, oh, I'm going to put I'm going
- 7:28to very specifically call out constantly that this person has
- 7:31ADHD in but do you know what I mean?
- 7:32Like I'm sure you probably feel the same when it's chronic
- 7:34illness, when it's not like so blaringly called out that it
- 7:37feels like it's there as a trope.
- 7:40Do you know what you mean? It's just naturally in there
- 7:42because that is part of the characters.
- 7:44And I really like that about Love Song.
- 7:46I think she's quite good in that general because she did it in
- 7:48Summer's story in the Chase, right?
- 7:51I mean, she did specifically call that ADHD and reference the
- 7:54fact it was ADHD. But I felt like that book was
- 7:56really well done representation as well.
- 7:59And also just that series in general, I think like Brenna's
- 8:03story, like some of the kind of themes in it are really quite
- 8:08deep. She's quite good at that.
- 8:09I think that's one of the things that Elle Kennedy can do quite
- 8:11well is that they are fluffy, lovely, like spicy romances, but
- 8:15most of them do have, like, a deeper undertone, which makes it
- 8:21more relatable in a lot of ways as opposed to, you know, the
- 8:24perfect romance. So yeah, that book was
- 8:28fantastic. I also started a new cowboy
- 8:32romance series. It's called the Diamondback
- 8:35Ranch. The first book is called Untamed
- 8:38Heart by Gemma Moore. Oh.
- 8:39Yeah, I've heard those. It was just a really good time.
- 8:43I just really, really enjoyed it.
- 8:45Very easy to read. The romance was cute and it was
- 8:48like, and it was a London girl who she gets, she gets sacked
- 8:51from her job, she finds that her boyfriend's cheating on her and
- 8:54she goes over to her family's ranch in Wyoming and obviously
- 8:58falls in love with a cowboy. So it is like super cheesy, but
- 9:01it was a very nice, easy summary, kind of like romance,
- 9:05red, blue Chestnut Springs type of vibe.
- 9:08So whether or not you like it, I don't know.
- 9:09Have you read? I think it's the Lucky Ranch
- 9:12series, which is the first book's cash, the second book's
- 9:14wire. No.
- 9:15I see. I read book one of that and I
- 9:17really really liked it and I keep meaning to go into book 2.
- 9:20So I think you should read them as.
- 9:22Well, because I fucking love a cowboy romance, Yeah.
- 9:24I feel like I was born to live on a ranch even though I don't
- 9:27like I. Don't really.
- 9:29Like animals that much either. Yeah.
- 9:32But I'm supposed to be like, one of those people that, like, runs
- 9:34the branch. Yeah.
- 9:35Do you know what I mean? Yeah.
- 9:36Like, like Beth in Yellowstone, she just runs the shit and
- 9:39everyone scared her. She looks really fucking cool
- 9:41and good while she does it. Like that's what I should be
- 9:43like. Maybe with less alcohol
- 9:45involved. And cigarettes.
- 9:47Yeah. And then finally I read.
- 9:53Well, I actually listened to Cinder Vale by the Twisted
- 9:56Sisters. Oh my fucking good God.
- 9:59This book, when I tell you I was like chronically on the edge of
- 10:04my seat the entire time. There was so much stuff going
- 10:07on, typical like Twisted Sisters fashion, and I just have really
- 10:15started to enjoy where the series is going.
- 10:17A bit like Zodiac Academy, the first book, it takes some real
- 10:22getting used to because it's like new characters and there's
- 10:24lots of people, like most of their books are.
- 10:27So you're trying to connect with lots of different characters at
- 10:29the same time. But now by book three, you're
- 10:32invested in every single person. You form some type of emotional
- 10:36attachment to every single person and there's just so much
- 10:39wild shit going on. And the last five minutes of the
- 10:43book film, I'm going to cry just talking about it.
- 10:45It was so good. I did a live reaction video to
- 10:49it on my TikTok because it was like the wildest ride and
- 10:54everyone needs to read that series.
- 10:56There's nothing like some tears to really sell bookers there,
- 11:00guys Like, Oh my goodness. I just get so excited.
- 11:03And it's making me want to read it.
- 11:04I need to. I need to catch up on their
- 11:06books. Yes, you do ASAP.
- 11:08You do A$AP Rocky ASAP rookie. Dookie.
- 11:11Yeah. So that's everything I've read
- 11:14during the break. What are you reading now?
- 11:19Are you? Are you reading now?
- 11:20I know you. I'm.
- 11:21Back. But baby, she's back.
- 11:24I'm back, and it's all thanks to our pal Amy.
- 11:27I was sick of the slump and I asked everyone on Instagram for
- 11:31slump recommendations specifically for smutty romance
- 11:36or like unhinged romance. Because in the past when I've
- 11:40been in really really bad slumps there's like 2 specific things
- 11:44that have broken it. One is mafia romance and one is
- 11:47something crazy like ice planet Barbarians.
- 11:50Or monster romance. Just something totally out of
- 11:53the norm. Totally out the norm and just
- 11:55something that's so sort of like addictive because you want to be
- 11:57like what like what is going on. So Amy recommended to me the
- 12:02edge of darkness series by Lee Rivers.
- 12:05If you know me, if you've been listening to this podcast for a
- 12:07wow, you'll know that I don't really read dark romance well.
- 12:12You're not a dark romance girly I wouldn't say, but you do
- 12:16randomly pop up with these like random like the mafia romance
- 12:19you're sinners marrow. You do do them in between and
- 12:23typically, actually it usually is when you're a little bit
- 12:26slumpy. It's when I'm in a slump.
- 12:27That's the only time I normally do it.
- 12:29It's basically happens like once a year.
- 12:32But yeah, in terms of like a go to genre, it's not one of my
- 12:36sort of top ones. And I would say that as well.
- 12:41I never really liked Haunting and hunting Adeline.
- 12:46They were just to me. But this series is very similar
- 12:50to them in a way. Yeah, it's I described it to Amy
- 12:55if you haven't read it, as Haunting Adeline meets
- 12:58Nightshade meets a mafia romance.
- 13:02So it's very dark. The only thing is I wouldn't
- 13:07personally recommend it to Tor because it has a topic she would
- 13:12find very trigger triggering and it's there's a very heavy
- 13:15emphasis on that topic. Oh God, I nearly picked them up
- 13:19the other day because you're enjoying them so much and Meg
- 13:21also read them. I saw on her reading wrap up so
- 13:23I was like, oh, maybe I'll read them.
- 13:25Everybody loves them, but Tor would find it super triggering.
- 13:28And in general, if you're someone that is quite heavily
- 13:31affected by triggers, pretty much every trigger possible is
- 13:35in this series. But I had never considered them,
- 13:39didn't really ever think they were going to be my thing.
- 13:41And then Amy Afrin loved them, recommended them as my slump.
- 13:45I started book one about 11:00 PM.
- 13:49I'd finished it by 4:00 AM. And then three days later I am.
- 13:55Now bearing in mind this was on a week night, she had to get up
- 13:58and work the next morning. And I regretted that decision a
- 14:02lot. But now three days later, I am
- 14:06about 40% of the way into Book 3.
- 14:09So I've done Insatiable Voracious, which is book 2, and
- 14:13now I'm on Restitution, which is the final book in the trilogy.
- 14:16It is a completed series as well and there's like a spin off
- 14:18novella about one of the characters in it.
- 14:21So if you want is it? Like an interconnected series?
- 14:24Or it's all about like one set of characters?
- 14:26Yeah, it's following one specific couple.
- 14:29OK. And then the spin off is about a
- 14:32different character. The novella, Sorry, is about a
- 14:34different character, but yeah, it's like, and it's it's so many
- 14:39tropes in it as well, where it like shouldn't work because
- 14:42there's that many, but it does. So it's like second chance.
- 14:45Sometimes trophy does work. Yeah, and it's just so
- 14:49addictive. I can't tell you why, but it's
- 14:52so addictive. The writing's not even great.
- 14:54It's not like it's funny or anything.
- 14:56It's just. Really addictive.
- 14:58Wild. Yeah, I know.
- 15:01And I'm also still reading. I'm Sadaqam.
- 15:05I know because the first book I was like, oh, I think Tor would
- 15:08really like this. And then the whole second book
- 15:11is basically, I mean, I don't think it's a spoiler to say, but
- 15:15there's a lot of flashbacks to something about pregnancy loss.
- 15:19It's like heavy as a big focus on it.
- 15:23So if that's anything that's triggering for you at home or
- 15:26Tor, no no no. I'm not going to read it.
- 15:30No, I think it will make you. Sad.
- 15:32Oh my God. Okay, fine, I'm not going to.
- 15:34Read that. Yeah, no, but she maybe has some
- 15:37other books I don't know that are like similar vibe, but.
- 15:39Yeah, maybe I listened to her. Yeah, because it was really
- 15:42good. I think you would have liked it.
- 15:43Other than that, it's a shame, but yeah, what about you?
- 15:47What are you up to? What are you reading?
- 15:48What am I reading? I have three books on the Kurt
- 15:52and then. Yes, you do.
- 15:53Always always a three book girly.
- 15:56So I am listening to Half City by Kate Gold on an audio and it
- 16:00is. Sensational.
- 16:03So many five stars of that. I'm really, really enjoying it.
- 16:07It is like a bit like if Shadowhunters and Nightshade had
- 16:13a baby with like a little bit of like sprinkling of like Buffy
- 16:16sass. Like it's got that kind of like
- 16:1890s naughties, like gritty, do you know what I mean?
- 16:22It's just, it's just really enjoyable.
- 16:24The chemistry between the FMC and the MMC is really good.
- 16:28Really like tangible, like you're really like invested,
- 16:32even though I wouldn't say it's particularly, I normally only
- 16:36kind of feel that type of chemistry if it's really good
- 16:39slow burn and enemies to lovers. Not always, but I usually need
- 16:43that kind of like tension. But it isn't even particularly
- 16:47like that. There's just like a very good
- 16:48like natural chemistry between these characters.
- 16:52Interesting story, kind of mysterious.
- 16:54I'm really, really enjoying it, and bonus that it only actually
- 16:59recently released, but we're already getting the second book
- 17:01in October, so that's great. I'm also reading Reckless Vow, I
- 17:10think it's called, which is the second book in that Diamondback
- 17:13Ranch series that I've been reading really good.
- 17:17She actually a bit like Elle Kennedy.
- 17:20There's like a deeper undertone to things, which is nice, even
- 17:22though they're cheesy, fluffy, spicy.
- 17:24And the proof that I'm reading is called If Books Could Kill by
- 17:28Kate Ebel. I never know how to pronounce
- 17:30her last name. It's her debut novel and it's
- 17:34this like weird blend of genres because it's like a romance book
- 17:38mixed with a thriller with like this kind of like sprinkling of
- 17:41magical realism in it. So basically it's about this
- 17:45woman who accidentally makes a wish to become the like female
- 17:51lead or the main character in her favorite or romance authors
- 17:55next book. And she obviously doesn't know
- 17:58she's making an actual wish. The wish gets granted, but the
- 18:01author is actually writing a thriller.
- 18:04Oh no. So it's really good.
- 18:08It's really fast-paced, like it jumps in so quickly into the
- 18:11story, which is really cool. Like I said, very, very
- 18:15fast-paced. And it's actually really funny
- 18:18as well. I've really been laughing out
- 18:20loud in bed, which is really an annoying Kyle, why he's trying
- 18:22to read his deck. So that's really singing June.
- 18:25I obviously haven't finished it yet so it might end up not being
- 18:28as good as what I think it is right now, but at the minute I'm
- 18:30about 40% of the way through. I feel physical books take me
- 18:35longer because I don't read them in bed as much, which is my main
- 18:37reading time, but so far I'm really really enjoying it.
- 18:41Sounds for my current reads. It sounds good.
- 18:43It sounds very original and different.
- 18:45Yeah, Which? We all.
- 18:46It's a good time. Yeah, yeah.
- 18:48So obviously that's what we've been reading, what we're
- 18:51currently reading, but there's also been a lot of stuff going
- 18:54on in the general bookish space while we've been away.
- 18:56There's so much like new news almost like constantly.
- 19:01I feel like every time we do videos for you guys, there's
- 19:03further stuff to update you on, so we're going to go through
- 19:06some of that now. So first of all, we'll probably
- 19:08have a little bit of old news by now, but we got the teaser
- 19:12trailer for the next season of Bridgeton and we pretty now sure
- 19:15it's going to be Francesca's season, obviously.
- 19:17Yeah. How do you feel about that?
- 19:19I I'm not that asked about Francesca as a character.
- 19:22Yeah, like I do like her, but I feel like I'm not.
- 19:27I'm so intrigued by Eloise this season.
- 19:29I wanted it to be Eloise this season.
- 19:31However, in saying that Francesca season has Francesca
- 19:35Story has already been kind of arching over two seasons anyway,
- 19:39so it makes sense for it to be her season next.
- 19:43But I think just because I want it to be Eloise this season so
- 19:46badly, I was a little bit disappointed.
- 19:49Yeah. But I am excited for Francesca
- 19:52season. I think it's gonna be good.
- 19:53I'm very curious to see how they're gonna manage it between
- 19:58Scotland and London, like how the other characters are gonna
- 20:01kind of stay in it. Yeah, I'm intrigued by this
- 20:05because I've never read the books.
- 20:07You've read some of the books. Some of them, but not up to this
- 20:10point. Yeah, and a lot of the girls in
- 20:11our friendship group have read the book, so they kind of know
- 20:14what's coming. Whereas I really go into these
- 20:16seasons blind. And I'm excited for Francesca in
- 20:20the sense that I really love her as a character.
- 20:23I think she's so relatable. But I also was really hoping for
- 20:27Eloise because Eloise is my favorite character in the whole
- 20:30show. And I just do feel like we've
- 20:32had we've had so much of her as a side character.
- 20:35I really want to see her as the main character now, but I am
- 20:40intrigued to see how they actually how much they do with
- 20:44Francesca in this season versus Eloise.
- 20:46I feel like we may get the start of Eloise's story in this.
- 20:49Season. I mean, we always do, don't we?
- 20:52So especially because like you said, we've already had two
- 20:54seasons basically of Francesca, like how much are they going to
- 20:58kind of drag out the next phase versus maybe it'll be like a 75%
- 21:04Francesca, 25% Eloise sort of thing.
- 21:06I am also intrigued by how they're going to approach her
- 21:10romance, like Francesca's romance, knowing that in the
- 21:13books it is a man and obviously in the show they have made her
- 21:19lesbian, which is great. But there's a there's an element
- 21:22of her story. And I won't give spoilers for
- 21:24anyone who doesn't know anything at all and doesn't want to know
- 21:26anything for all for anything at all.
- 21:28There's an element of her story that is quite specific to a male
- 21:32and female relationship, let's say.
- 21:35So I'm intrigued to see where they take this.
- 21:37I do. I'm really hit and miss with
- 21:39Bridgeton in general. I would say like I either love
- 21:42the seasons. You're really hard to please
- 21:44with TV and film though. I don't think I am, but do you
- 21:48think I am? I'm just really easily pleased
- 21:50by. That to be fair I do I do love
- 21:55season 2 now on rewatch. I didn't love season 2 at the
- 21:58time but season 1 and the latest season which was.
- 22:04I just have the biggest girl crush on the actress that plays
- 22:07Kate Sharma. Like I am so obsessive.
- 22:10When I found out she's going to be in The Devil Wears Prada too,
- 22:12I was like frothing at the mouth.
- 22:14That's so funny. Like that kind of stuff doesn't?
- 22:17I would swing sides for her. Interesting.
- 22:20And actually I feel like that about Zendaya.
- 22:23Like if Zendaya is in something, I know I'm going to like it.
- 22:25Yeah. But anyway, so there's like two
- 22:28seasons that I love, one season that I like, and then one season
- 22:32I didn't like at all, which is Penelope and calling.
- 22:34Sorry guys. Just don't get.
- 22:35It I know I didn't get that so it could go either way.
- 22:39Yeah, I think regardless, with Bridgeton, whether you like or
- 22:45don't like the season, you love watching it.
- 22:48Yeah. Do you know what I mean?
- 22:49Well. It's just also, it's like not
- 22:50even just the actual romance story, it's the dynamics of the
- 22:54family and like the visuals and the music.
- 22:57Yeah, exactly. It's just an experience.
- 23:00Like when I think of Penelope and Colin's season, I think of
- 23:03the like orchestral version of the Pitbull song.
- 23:05Like I just play something here in my head.
- 23:08Even now I love it. Yeah, literally.
- 23:10And obviously, like for me last season, we got a Paramour cover.
- 23:13Yeah. So I was like, in my element.
- 23:15That's all I think of now. So yeah, it's it's just an
- 23:18experience as a whole. And then, sticking with
- 23:21trailers, we they dropped the trailer of A Practical Magic
- 23:26too. I think this looks really good.
- 23:30So do I, I think it's gonna be amazing.
- 23:33It definitely raised a few questions for us, didn't it?
- 23:35Yeah, about, but none of us have ever read the books, have we?
- 23:38No, I don't think anyone in our book club has No I.
- 23:41Think like most people don't even realize they are books.
- 23:44Yeah. And there's like four or five, I
- 23:46think. Yeah, I think there is a lot of
- 23:48them. Yeah.
- 23:49So we don't know. Maybe we should read them.
- 23:51Maybe we should. I don't know where the story's
- 23:53gonna go, and the trailer made it seem like the character
- 23:57wasn't in it anymore. I know which is so sad but do
- 24:00not love the actress choices for the daughters.
- 24:05I was like, I see it, I. Can't remember who it is now.
- 24:08It's the girl that played Are you Stark, isn't it?
- 24:13And who's the other guy? Is it?
- 24:17Get it up. I'm going to get it up.
- 24:19Get the deets. I thought one of them was Joey
- 24:21King. Oh, maybe it is.
- 24:24Who are the actresses playing the daughters in Practical Magic
- 24:26to? Yeah, Joey King and Maisie
- 24:28Williams. OK, so Maisie Williams.
- 24:31Fine, yes, Joey King. I was a bit like Oh dear when
- 24:34they cast her because all I can think of is the kissing booth.
- 24:39I so and I don't feel I don't really know about their act.
- 24:42I mean, Maisie Williams is a phenomenal actress and I and I
- 24:45really, really like her. But I just seeing them visually,
- 24:49I was like, it just made sense to me that they were playing
- 24:51Sandra Bullock's daughters. Do you know what I mean?
- 24:53Like visually was my was more where I was going with it.
- 24:56And they made Nicole a redhead again.
- 25:00I do you know what Nicole Kidman is one of those women's life
- 25:03such a girl crush on her. I love her.
- 25:05I watch anything, everything. I literally watch if I see her
- 25:09in something I go click. I'm like that with Julia Roberts
- 25:12as well. You're going so off topic right
- 25:14now. Julia Roberts goes platinum in
- 25:16my household. I love her.
- 25:18We love her. Yeah, she's Whitney's favorite
- 25:20actress ever. Really.
- 25:21Yeah, and Sandra is that was actually mine until a few years
- 25:24ago. I really like Sandra Bullock,
- 25:26but everyone always used to say I look like her and one of the
- 25:30places I work they used to call me.
- 25:33They used to call me Tall Bullock.
- 25:36I mean, that's better than what I got from an Uber driver once.
- 25:38Once, which was Latoya Jackson. But going back to the actual
- 25:44trailer itself, I think we can safely say or we will be
- 25:47watching that. One 100%.
- 25:49In other bookish and film news, The Summer I Turn Pretty has
- 25:54finally started filming. It's wild to me that everyone's
- 25:57been watching this show for years and I literally found it
- 25:59last summer when everyone started season 3 and I like
- 26:02binge the whole thing in like a week.
- 26:04But that was good for you, because you meant you didn't
- 26:06have to wait. It was so good.
- 26:07I watched it season by season. Obviously I've read the books
- 26:10when I was younger, so I'm really intrigued by the film
- 26:14because it didn't end the same way the books end.
- 26:16Now we get like an alternate or sort of added ending from this
- 26:21movie, whatever it is, so. Is it then that the film is
- 26:25likely going to be all new content?
- 26:28Like not from the books? Because there isn't the books
- 26:32vaguely kind of end where the show ends.
- 26:34No, not the same, but kind of in the same kind of space.
- 26:37Kind of, but the books allude to a few things after.
- 26:41OK, if I remember correctly, because it's been a long time
- 26:45since I read them, like 15 years.
- 26:48But I think the movie potentially is going to feel
- 26:51like an epilogue. Yes.
- 26:54Like bonus content. Yeah, wrapping it up nicely.
- 26:58Yeah, so it's going to be like a nice cheesy film.
- 27:01I think so, but dependent sprinkling of drama, Yeah, maybe
- 27:04they'll change it and they'll add drama in for the for the
- 27:08attention. But I'm just happy as a Conrad
- 27:11girl. Yeah, that it should.
- 27:13Give us more, Conrad Belly. Listen, anyone that is a
- 27:17Jeremiah girl has serious issues in that opinion.
- 27:22Yeah, I can't, guys. It should have put you off him
- 27:24when he did that dance in Season 1, to be honest.
- 27:27That should have been the turning point where you were
- 27:28like. They're just not made for each
- 27:30other. He's I don't know if he that
- 27:32character. I could kind of understand,
- 27:36here's my thing with this kind of thing, I can understand if
- 27:39it's coming from a book and they read the book and you connect
- 27:43more with a, with a character in a book because you're kind of
- 27:47creating the chemistry in your mind.
- 27:49Whereas with the TV series, anyone that ever just watched
- 27:53the TV series. What I can't understand is there
- 27:57was no chemistry between those characters as the as actors kind
- 28:01of thing. Like you just couldn't.
- 28:03There was nothing there between them in my opinion.
- 28:05Whereas with her and Conrad, it was like, Oh my God, this is
- 28:09phenomenal. Yeah, and I will say in the
- 28:12books, I don't remember Jeremiah being that annoying and that
- 28:16cringe. Yeah, I was firmly Team Conrad
- 28:19the whole way through the books and was fuming like when I
- 28:23thought they weren't going to end up together.
- 28:25Yeah, but I did still like Jeremiah as well, whereas I feel
- 28:29like in the show they really kind of hammed up his like,
- 28:32cringe. Yeah, and they made him a bit of
- 28:34a villain, whereas I think you don't really see that in the
- 28:37books until the 3rd book where the conflict starts.
- 28:39But yeah, I'm just excited to have more more, hopefully more
- 28:44Belly and Conrad scenes. I know it's gonna be so good.
- 28:47So he's sticking with more book to screen adaptation news?
- 28:50Yeah, we had two new announcement in recent weeks.
- 28:54Neither of us have read this series but the Kindred Kerr saga
- 29:00which is Spark of the Ever Flame.
- 29:03That's had a fourth and final book announcement, which is
- 29:07coming in September, but it's also getting a book screen
- 29:10adaptation. And I hadn't heard this until
- 29:13Tor mentioned it. And like she said, we've not
- 29:15read the books. So let us know in the comments
- 29:17if it is something that you think we should read.
- 29:19Everyone tells me to read this series.
- 29:22Everyone. A lot of mixed comments.
- 29:24I've seen not a single negative review about it.
- 29:27A. Lot of people say the female
- 29:28main character is the most I've. Seen that actually.
- 29:31Yeah, apparently she's like a lot of people say, like the
- 29:34worst ever which could. Ruin it for me because like that
- 29:37ruined. I'm looking it up at it because
- 29:39I know it's there, but the Scarlett Sinclair look, Greek, A
- 29:43Touch of Darkness series. Persephone is horre.
- 29:45Yeah. Like I loved all of the Hades
- 29:47perspective books because that was so interesting.
- 29:50But her as a character, I found her really frustrating.
- 29:54However, in saying that, I don't judge before I read because I
- 29:58would say most of Book Talk and Bookstogram don't like Nestor,
- 30:03but I really felt like a deep connection with Nestor's
- 30:07character. Like she's got a lot of trauma
- 30:09and a lot of issues, and I think I've really connected with that
- 30:11about her. So everyone that found her
- 30:14annoying and a bit like, well, you just don't get her as a
- 30:17character. So I definitely don't judge
- 30:20before we read and we don't judge I do.
- 30:25So I feel like I would definitely read it myself before
- 30:27being like, I'm not going to read it because everyone thinks
- 30:29she's annoying. Yeah, I can't lie, those
- 30:31comments have put me off just because they've come from like
- 30:34mutuals as well, whose book tastes I have very similar to.
- 30:37And like, I've never really seen core characters annoying or
- 30:39anything before, so that just put me off a little bit.
- 30:43But in general, I probably still will give it a go at some point,
- 30:46especially if it's being made into an adult.
- 30:47I'm going to read it this summer.
- 30:49Well, you let me know what you think.
- 30:51Yeah, though if tall who loves it, I'll probably hate it.
- 30:53That's not true with fantasy. I feel like we had one recently
- 30:57with fantasy but I can't think what it was now.
- 30:59Like maybe the end of last. Year or I feel like it's a bit
- 31:01more like will she won't she but we'll see yeah obviously you
- 31:06know yeah what I think of. It and we'll keep you guys
- 31:09updated as well on that reading journey, but I can't say it's a
- 31:12priority for me this year. Yeah.
- 31:14The other series that we got news about screen adaptation is
- 31:19TL Swans Mile High series. I know that you haven't read
- 31:22this and to be honest with you, I don't actually think that you
- 31:24would like the books, but I love this series.
- 31:29You might actually like them, to be fair.
- 31:33So nice. Aren't they building?
- 31:34Yeah, they are. I love a billionaire romance.
- 31:37It's just like I just love to live in that La La land.
- 31:40That not that I'll meet a billion next and very happily
- 31:42married, but I don't know, maybe some distant uncle will die in
- 31:46Kyle will become a millionaire. Like, that would be really cool.
- 31:51But no, it's a really, it's a really great series if you like
- 31:54that kind of thing. And it's she as an author, her
- 31:57writing is really funny. Like laugh out loud, crying with
- 32:01laughter at some of the things that happened in these books
- 32:03funny. And it's being made into a TV
- 32:06show, so it will be like a season per couple, so.
- 32:10And it's about four brothers. So that's very exciting news for
- 32:13me. That is very exciting.
- 32:14Do we know who's adapting that? Like is it Amazon?
- 32:17I cannot remember. OK, for the life of me I cannot
- 32:19remember. Because I feel like I.
- 32:20Should start writing those things down when I plan this out
- 32:23for us. I was just going to say the
- 32:24reason I was asking because I feel like Amazon are doing a.
- 32:26Lot of Amazon as doing loads, but also so is Netflix.
- 32:30You know, they're doing all the LC silvers and so there's there
- 32:34is so much good TV coming over the next.
- 32:37The next couple of years, yeah, they're finally getting really
- 32:39good. The idea of like, we want to see
- 32:41these stories on screen instead of the same old things rehashed
- 32:45a million times. What did they remake recently
- 32:47that was like, not again, surely?
- 32:49I think it might have been Willy Wonka.
- 32:50And I was like, come on, it's been done.
- 32:51Three times as well the Timothy 1.
- 32:54Not cool. Not cool at all.
- 32:57OK, so this one, I know that you've got strong feelings on
- 33:00this, so we're going to take this lightly, ease her into it
- 33:03because she's very stressed about this situation.
- 33:06Oh my God, I know what it is. So they have made their castings
- 33:11for Emily Henry's Beach Read adaptation and they have cast
- 33:17what's their names? Daphne, so and so.
- 33:20Phoebe. Oh, Daphne is that character
- 33:23which? Is Phoebe Divina and Patrick
- 33:27Schwarzenegger Schwarzenegger Schwarzenegger?
- 33:30Schwarzenegger. Yeah, I'm not happy about it
- 33:33guys, I can't lie. Have I gone in an off campus
- 33:35style rant criticizing their looks?
- 33:37No, but do I now understand the way some of those people felt at
- 33:41the time? Maybe.
- 33:42Do you know what Phoebe, when she was cast I was like, oh
- 33:45she's not really visually how I imagine the character, but she's
- 33:48a great actress. I'm intrigued to see what she
- 33:51does. I'm sure it will be great.
- 33:53I'm sure she'll bring the character to life in a great
- 33:55way. I personally saw her funnily
- 33:57enough more as Daphne from Funny Story, which is Emily Henry's
- 34:02other book. Like I would have put her as
- 34:04that character based on just her visuals.
- 34:08Patrick he he could not be further away from how I imagined
- 34:14Gus and Beach Read is one of my top romances of all time.
- 34:19It made me sob. The only thing that beats it is
- 34:21Emily Henry's other book Happy Place.
- 34:23So I feel passionately about Gus effort and just everything about
- 34:28them doesn't really match to me. Like the visuals, the
- 34:31personality, Patrick's style of acting.
- 34:34So I've seen him in a couple of things.
- 34:36I don't think I've seen him in anything.
- 34:38Yeah, I can't think of the things I've seen him in.
- 34:41You won't have seen him in White Lotus season 3 if you know you
- 34:45know in that he is literally the biggest like frat guy just
- 34:50cringy American like Republican style college like just slimy.
- 34:57But he is acting. He is acting, but we'll come to
- 35:00that. And obviously Gus is like this
- 35:04sweet. Yeah, emo, kind of introverted,
- 35:08a little bit nerdy. I imagined him like, like, tall,
- 35:12broad, rugged, a little bit broody, like, yeah, Do you know
- 35:16what I mean? That's basically I imagined him
- 35:18to be a little bit older than what Patrick looks in the
- 35:21pictures that I've seen of him during the casting news.
- 35:24I. Actually imagined both of them
- 35:26to be slightly older given that it said like it'd been years
- 35:29since they'd seen each other at college.
- 35:31They now had these successful best selling author careers.
- 35:34I'm sorry. They both are like late 20s
- 35:36early 30s at the most so I would have preferred actors in their
- 35:40like mid to late 30s. I was thinking mid 30s, yeah.
- 35:43I feel like in romance particularly, they like to age
- 35:46people down quite a lot. I don't know if it's something
- 35:48to do with they think older people are less desirable.
- 35:50I don't know but I feel like most people don't feel that way.
- 35:55But yes, I imagined him the same.
- 35:57Rugged he's described as dark hair, olive skin.
- 36:03A lot of people wanted to see a person of colour.
- 36:06I would have loved to have seen a person of colour.
- 36:08I don't think he's explicitly described that way.
- 36:10So it I had some fan casts that weren't people of colour like I
- 36:14thought. Did you watch Ransom Canyon?
- 36:16Yes. You know the the guy, what's his
- 36:19name? Like the fit cowboy.
- 36:22That's not Josh. What's his name?
- 36:25Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. The dark haired one.
- 36:27Yeah. I imagine like him, someone like
- 36:29him. OK, interesting and not how I
- 36:31imagined him, but yeah. Also interesting, he was one of
- 36:35the people I had written down for him.
- 36:37And then also, how else did I have, oh, when a lot of people
- 36:42like Logan Lerman and I also had the guy that was from
- 36:46Shadowhunters that people find cast as Azrael.
- 36:50Oh yeah, I know who. Didario yeah, something like
- 36:53that. Is that his name?
- 36:54Something like that. You guys know who we mean.
- 36:56But Patrick, he's a nice looking man.
- 37:00You can't deny it, but he's not that character.
- 37:04He's so all American looking. I do sometimes wonder though
- 37:07that is it because they've put 2, they cast her and then
- 37:11they're shortlisting for him and actually their chemistry
- 37:15together. Well, that's what they said, is
- 37:17it? Oh, is it?
- 37:18Exactly what they said is it. Yeah, I swear to God, I did.
- 37:20Not know that that's what they've said in a statement
- 37:22because I feel they did basically a statement because I
- 37:25feel like they knew people were going to be unhappy.
- 37:27Yeah. And one of the things as well is
- 37:29that Fabian Frankel, who is from House of the Dragon, he had had,
- 37:35like, an Instagram story with the script.
- 37:37So people thought he was going to be Gus.
- 37:39And he's, again, that same sort of dark hair, tan skin, like,
- 37:43very fit, the vibe. And people were very excited
- 37:45about that. And then it's not him.
- 37:47But the biggest thing that a lot of people are annoyed at,
- 37:51probably including myself. Yeah, I can't lie.
- 37:52I am annoyed at this. Patrick is MAGA right wing.
- 37:58I know. He's had some controversies as
- 38:01well. That's not who I want playing
- 38:05Gus because Gus is like, to me, the opposite of that.
- 38:08Yeah. So it's just like, I wish they'd
- 38:11picked someone who more embodied the character.
- 38:14I know that in an ideal world, maybe this was like 15 years
- 38:18ago, politics wouldn't come into it because politics was less
- 38:21extreme than right. Like you could have, whether
- 38:24it's in the UK and it'd be laboratory or the US and it'd be
- 38:27Republican, Democrat, you could get along with people from
- 38:31different political opinions. But I feel like now it's past.
- 38:33There's so much more of a divide, yeah.
- 38:36So now I'm like, I'm not too happy about that so.
- 38:40Reading and watching is political.
- 38:42It is we take that stance. We do.
- 38:45I also look like brother and sister.
- 38:46I can't lie. Do you think?
- 38:48Yeah, they look really simple, I mean.
- 38:49I don't find him to look at him. I can see that he's not
- 38:52obviously ugly, but I don't see him as attractive at all.
- 38:55And in my head, like Gus was really attractive and a lot more
- 38:59rugged looking. I mean, I'm intrigued.
- 39:01Obviously we're all going to watch it anyway, but we're not
- 39:03happy. You're not happy with the cast?
- 39:04I actually might not watch it because I kind of.
- 39:06Want to stop? You have to.
- 39:08No, because I also didn't like people we meet on vacation and
- 39:12so I'm also just at the point now.
- 39:13Wait until you see the trailer at least.
- 39:15Yeah, I'll make the decision on the trailer, but I I don't think
- 39:18I'm going to like it. And guys, I found out that
- 39:20Jennifer Lopez is producing Happy Place.
- 39:24I'm not happy about that. I'm not.
- 39:27I'm switching off from the Emily Henry adaptations.
- 39:29They're going to stay sacred books in my mind.
- 39:31Oh no, Oh my God. OK right.
- 39:33Swiftly moving on before she has an aneurysm and sports very
- 39:38months news. We've got the full trailer for
- 39:41Off Campus, which is very, very, very exciting.
- 39:44Yeah, that does look good. Yes it does.
- 39:46It looks really good. Insane.
- 39:48And we got season 2 renewed before it even aired.
- 39:52Yes, which I'm very excited. But, and since probably you've
- 39:55planned this, I don't know if you've seen this, they've cast
- 39:57Grace. Have.
- 39:59They they've cast Grace literally saw this last night
- 40:02and she's perfect. She's really perfect.
- 40:06Oh my God, I'm going to need to. I'm going to need to look that.
- 40:08Up and I'm pretty sure she's British.
- 40:10British. British, Why are we putting on
- 40:12British accents? We are.
- 40:13British. I just have to say it how the
- 40:15Americans say it. But yeah, I'm pretty sure she
- 40:18was British and she looks visually very close to how I
- 40:21imagine the character. Oh amazing, that's very
- 40:23exciting. And we're getting all 8 episodes
- 40:26at once. See, I do love a weekly release
- 40:30where you have something to look forward to.
- 40:31Like, you know, somewhere I turn.
- 40:33Pretty, yeah, I know what you mean.
- 40:35But I do feel like it's going to be so good to binge this.
- 40:38Yeah, but I've got no willpower. I'll get through it in 2-2 days
- 40:42and then I'll be like, what do I watch now?
- 40:44Well, we're actually Brunty and I are getting together the day
- 40:48after release for something very exciting, and she's actually
- 40:57gonna have a sleepover and we're gonna watch some Yeah on the
- 40:59Thursday night, aren't we? Which?
- 41:00Is very exciting, will be very. Forget to experience it
- 41:02together. Yeah, so let's hope I don't hate
- 41:05it guys, but no, I don't think I will cause the trailer looks
- 41:07very good. Yeah, we've also got Heated
- 41:10rivalry Season 2 confirmed. I think they might have actually
- 41:13started filming now too. I don't know if I saw that or
- 41:16not. I think I have.
- 41:17I think what I saw is that they are they are starting filming
- 41:22this summer. Yeah, and it should be coming
- 41:23out in early 2027, right? That's what I've seen.
- 41:26I'm so excited for this. Season 1 was like 6 stars for
- 41:30me. Like I absolutely loved it.
- 41:32You've still not seen it, have you?
- 41:34I watched the first episode and I didn't really get into it but
- 41:36everyone has said to me you need to give it at least 2 episodes.
- 41:39Yeah, it's a slow burn. Yeah, it is.
- 41:41And it's quite different to other things.
- 41:43But then you will love it. I think episode is it episode 3?
- 41:47I think it's episode 3 that will make you sob.
- 41:51Oh God. My problem is is like I don't
- 41:53watch much TV. Like TV that I have to like
- 41:55actually sit and watch. I don't watch much of it.
- 41:58Like typically the tvi have on at home is reality TV as
- 42:03background noise while I'm podcast planning or I'm doing
- 42:07admin for the kids. Like so I don't watch that much
- 42:10TV but I will at some point sit and watch it.
- 42:14Yeah. Do you not watch TV while you
- 42:15work? No.
- 42:17Oh see, I watch a lot of TV. If I have something on in the
- 42:20background because I'm doing like administrative work, then
- 42:24it's reality TV because it needs to be stuff that I can zone out
- 42:27of. Yeah.
- 42:28But I would say 80% of my work is being in meetings.
- 42:32Oh I could never guys. I could absolutely never.
- 42:35I had a full day of meetings on Monday.
- 42:36This is so off topic, but I had a full day of meetings on
- 42:39Monday. That rarely happened to me.
- 42:40I want to die by the end of the day.
- 42:42That is my life. Yeah, that is my life.
- 42:45OK, so some book news. We also saw that Rebecca Yaros
- 42:51has officially announced that she is writing the next book in
- 42:55the Imperium. So she well she started book 4
- 42:57is what she announced. Since then, some very eagle eyed
- 43:01people have noticed on Amazon, I think it was on Amazon, that
- 43:07there is an Empyrean potential novella set for release this
- 43:12September. So that's, that's quite
- 43:14interesting, very exciting for some of us.
- 43:17There has also been a big announcement from the Twisted
- 43:20Sisters. There has yes, we are getting a
- 43:24Christmas Zodiac Academy book, right Yeah.
- 43:27So it's going to be like in the style of an advent calendar as
- 43:30well, 25 chapters, so you can read like a chapter a day over
- 43:34Christmas or December specifically, which I think it's
- 43:36such a cute idea. Yeah, but it's coming out in
- 43:38October. Who's waiting that long?
- 43:40Is it? I think it's coming out in
- 43:41October. I'm sure that's what I saw on
- 43:43the Amazon post. I will not be waiting that.
- 43:45Long. There is no way I can wait that
- 43:47long to read that. It's gonna be really nice to be
- 43:49back with those characters again because.
- 43:51Seems to be talking about them a lot.
- 43:52Yeah, we do seem to be talking about them a lot.
- 43:54It's a lot of Twisted Sisters talk going on weird.
- 44:00I'm very excited to be back those characters because I
- 44:02actually feel like it feels like ages since Zodiac finished.
- 44:06Ages and it is. They have confirmed it is.
- 44:09It's not like a random Christmas thing like during the stories.
- 44:13It is set after the events of Restless Stars.
- 44:18I'm really excited and I always love it in general in their
- 44:21series when they do like seasonal things.
- 44:26So, you know, like in Ruthless Boys, there's a Christmas scene
- 44:30in Zodiac Academy. Well, they do the snowball
- 44:32fight. It's just good vibes.
- 44:34It's always funny when they do like events.
- 44:36So if Christmas is in it, it will be cute.
- 44:38Yeah, 100% and we'll love it. I mean, if I can hold off
- 44:41reading it until December, I'll be absolutely amazed.
- 44:44Yeah, So final bit of news, we have some actual sort of bookish
- 44:47event news for people who are in the UK next year.
- 44:51There's going to be a huge event called Readers and Rebels.
- 44:54So we're going to tell you a little bit about that.
- 44:56Yeah, it's going to be based in Wales.
- 44:59It's being hosted by some amazing people from within the
- 45:03bookish community, which is amazing because then we know
- 45:07that it's really coming from a place of genuine bookish
- 45:09interest. And we have also already been
- 45:13privileged to have heard some very exciting whispers about
- 45:16who's going to be attending. So make sure that you go and
- 45:19check them out, follow them on their socials for all the latest
- 45:22updates. There is a form for interest for
- 45:26vendors and authors available to sign up.
- 45:28So we'll see you in Wales 2027 and we'll.
- 45:32Put the link to their socials in the description so you can find
- 45:35it below. Yeah, so you might have noticed
- 45:37in this episode that we've been a little bit suspicious.
- 45:41We've been. Teasing a few Easter eggs.
- 45:44Much like 2 authors who also love an Easter egg, we have a
- 45:49very, very special surprise for you coming up.
- 45:52We're actually going to be interviewing.
- 45:54Drum roll please. The.
- 45:56Twisted Sister, also known as Caroline Peckham and Suzanne
- 46:01Valenti, the authors of Zodiac Academy.
- 46:05Obviously, if you've been here for a while, you know that that
- 46:07is the book series that basically made us friends and
- 46:10started our whole book top journey, so we're really excited
- 46:13for. That this is absolutely like
- 46:16huge mega for us. I know I'm an emotional girl,
- 46:19but I genuinely get emotional to the man because it just feels
- 46:21like for us, and we're going to, we'll talk about this a bit more
- 46:24in next week's episode, but this feels like a very full circle
- 46:27moment for us as people and creators.
- 46:30So we're so, so, so excited. So again, please make sure that
- 46:34you remember to follow and subscribe to our channels to be

- 46:44planned for next week. So you're going to get extra
- 46:47doses of us in May because before we interview them, we
- 46:50want to do a full roundup of our love of Soda Academy, the Solari
- 46:54universe, all the other books. We'll go into a bit more of our
- 46:57origin story as creators and podcasters and how this series
- 47:02has impacted us as people. So again, please make sure to

- 47:19another episode. Bye.
